Aquarium
Nature & Parks
Nestled along the stunning Norwegian coastline, the Atlantic Sea-Park, or Atlanterhavsparken, is a must-visit destination for anyone intrigued by marine life. This modern aquarium specializes in cold-water species native to the region and features captivating displays of local sea creatures such as fish, seals, and playful penguins. The park not only highlights the beauty of life beneath the waves but also offers an immersive experience that educates visitors about oceanic ecosystems.
Excellent place to visit. Lots of interesting displays with the information given in both Norwegian and English. Very accessible with everywhere reachable using ramps which was great with a pram. Nice baby changing facilities. Cafe reasonably priced with delicious cakes. Feeding talk (in English) in the large tank was very informative and so interesting to watch. There is an auditorium space with some seating (get there early to get a seat) and we sat on the floor at the front which was great for kids and their parents. The staff are really passionate and welcoming and all the animals seem well looked after. There were lots of interactive exhibits and the outside space also had fun interactive bits too - like a build your own dam play area. Great to see the seals and European otters in nice large enclosures looking healthy and well looked after. A must visit if cruising to Ålesund!

Visited this place whilst on our cruise. Easy access via concrete paths with wheelchair wide doors. Everything here is easy for wheelchair users and buggies. Payment by cash or card. Welcome with a smile and helpful advice. Also good disabled parking at the front door. All floors are solid and easy gradients to navigate. There is so much information at this place to take in. The fish tanks were all clear and clean and very easy to see the fish etc. Outside there were the penguins and the otter tanks which were a delight to see. There was also a massive tank with seals in. Inside was a lovely cafe with a choice of very tasty cakes and sandwiches. It was spotless to and nice and airy. The toilets were very clean and access to the Disabled toilet was on the flat and very good access with big doors.

Atlantic Sea-Park is an incredible experience! The aquariums are beautifully designed and give you a close-up view of Norway’s fascinating marine life. The outdoor areas are stunning, with seals, penguins, and otters in spacious natural settings. Everything feels well-organized, family-friendly, and educational — perfect for kids and adults alike. The staff are knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what they do. A must-visit if you’re anywhere near Ålesund!

A Great Aquarium We were taken to the Aquarium as part of a tour from the cruise ship. It was a lovely sunny day and there is plenty to see outside as well as inside. They have otters, seals and penguins (lovely!) and the keeper did a great talk about the otters in English. In fact all the staff spoke very good English. There are some great views outside as well. Plenty for children to do both inside and outside so a good place to visit as a family. Inside there are various sized glass tanks and a viewing tunnel where you can see the fish etc. There is also a large open top tank where you can look over and watch the various sea life. Lots of interactive activities for both children and adults. There is a great cafe too which had lovely cakes and food! Again the staff here spoke very good English. There is a shop with various souvenirs etc. Good clean toilets. The Aquarium is well worth a visit and we would like to go again one day.
Keith D — Google review
This is a great aquarium and a must visit if you are in the area. There are a variety of exhibits and you’ll learn so much about the sea creatures of Norway and beyond! We loved watching various fish swim freely through the large tanks and listening to their knowledgeable staff give presentations on the animals (they spoke in both Norwegian and English, great for us foreign visitors!). Watching the diver hand-feed a whole bunch of fish is their large tank was very impressive.
Jamie F — Google review
Best aquarium I’ve been to! Talks were educational and interesting, as well as super cute! Loved the otters and penguins, you can tell they’re really cared for. If you’re in the area please go and support this wonderful place, I wish we had this in the UK, I’d be there all the time!
Megan M — Google review
Very well designed with lots of tanks to see the sea life and tons of interactive exhibits for the kids and adults to enjoy. Plus the Cafe was wonderful too!! Enjoy!!
Ashley G — Google review
Great park for the whole family! Very educational! Lots of big fish in aquariums, stingrays you can pet like cats! There is a beautiful area outside with penguins, otters and sea lions.

Restaurant
Bar
Anno Restaurant & Lounge Bar is a popular dining spot located in the heart of Alesund, housed in a historic building. The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring classic Norwegian dishes like reindeer stew and fish cakes, as well as international options such as pasta and pizza. Visitors have praised the delicious Norwegian cuisine served here, along with the cozy atmosphere. However, some travelers were surprised by the tipping culture in Norway when presented with their bill.
Was hungry for a pizza and my AirBnb host suggested this place. Was not disappointed. Nice zesty sauce and great blend of flavors on the pizza. Crust was perfect. And the location was central to Ålesund. Three stars for service since I sat myself, got my own water refills, and bussed my table.
Chris P — Google review
Had a nice dinner there last week. Everybody in our company was satisfied. I took the trout which was really good! Good service and a really nice view of the beautiful Ålesund guest harbour.
Daniel L — Google review
We had lunch in this restaurant and we liked the bacalao so much that we decided to repeat again. However, the second time the service wasn’t so good, we were waiting a long time to order and it was a bit caothic. Besides, there was a problem with tap water in the city, so we ordered mineral water instead. However, we saw the waiter full the bottle in from a big jug and the taste was quite weird. I doubt it was “mineral”. The food is quite good but the service should be improved.

Get the codfish plate. The fish has Superior level quality. The kind you get in Lisbon. Snowy white meat and perfectly cooked as well. Top shelf stuff 👍

I had a lovely experience at Anno Restaurant in Norway. The location is perfect, with a beautiful and upscale atmosphere that makes it feel like a special dining spot — yet still welcoming and comfortable. We didn’t have a reservation and they seemed quite busy, so I was really grateful they were able to accommodate me and my mom on short notice. The frites were absolutely delicious, crispy and golden, and the sauce they came with was so flavorful — I could’ve eaten a whole plate just of those! I also ordered the mushroom pasta, which was so good I couldn’t finish it in one sitting and had to take the rest to go so I could enjoy it later. Rich, savory, and perfectly cooked. Overall, a wonderful meal with great service. I’d definitely come back and recommend it to anyone visiting the area!
Ri K — Google review
Delicious Norwegian food served here. Nice and cosy ambience too. The fish soup is milky and flavourful. The ingredients in the soup, fish and shrimps were so fresh. The focaccia with chicken was just as good too. This restaurant is self-service except for the dishes ordered. As for coffee, you can give this place a miss.

Specialty Museums
The Jugendstilsenteret og KUBE is a museum and gallery that operates in a beautifully restored 1907 pharmacy with original period interiors. The establishment specializes in presenting temporary exhibitions on Art Nouveau, showcasing exquisite pieces of art from the era. The museum houses interesting stories behind the exhibits that keep visitors engaged and captivated.
Super informative, compact museum that was excellent for learning more about Ålesund’s history. It was cool to go here before walking more around the city and recognizing all the Art Noveau around town! The contemporary exhibits were wonderful too. A must-visit!
Natalie K — Google review
Jugendstilsenteret og KUBE is a fascinating blend of art, architecture, and history in Ålesund. The museum beautifully showcases the city’s Art Nouveau heritage through interactive exhibits and stunning design details. KUBE adds a contemporary edge, with thought-provoking modern art that contrasts nicely with the historical setting. The staff are friendly, the building itself is an artwork, and the view from the upper floors is lovely—a must-visit for architecture and art lovers alike.
Dani B — Google review
Beautiful art nouveau building with an interesting display and movie on Norways's Jungenstil movement. Also, all the other displays and exhibits were set up beautifully with detailed descriptions in English. Really enjoyed our visit here!!
Dawn S — Google review
Very much enjoyed this gem of a museum, the innovative Time Machine (also in English if required) gave us a great insight into the area's history. The helpful team kindly rejigged the art nouveau history slide shows to also play in English. The downstairs display indicating the battles to preserve the local architecture were familiar, whatever country you are from. Coffee and biscuits available. A short walk from the cruise terminal.
Nic F — Google review
I understood Art Nouveau much better after this illuminating trip. The whole building itself is a work of art and more immersive than expected. Lovely staff, quirky and honesty box run cafe, owls everywhere. It's as if a fantasy elf designed an apothecary and living quarters. The art museum attached wasn't that great tho but included in the price.
Josh N — Google review
What a wonderful museum! I love small niche museums and this one is great. Architecturally significant for its Art Nouveau design. There is a great collection of enamels; things like teaspoons, decorative items, other tableware. There is some furniture from the era. And the front entrance is a former pharmacy with all the drawers. And be sure to look for the owls
Sheryl B — Google review
Interesting museum. The time machine described the fire and reconstruction nicely. The top portion was only a house with affluent furnishings (but I have no idea about the significance of who lived here).

Terminalen Byscene is a cozy yet trendy venue that hosts a variety of cultural events, including concerts, theater performances, and music festivals featuring both local and international artists. Despite its small size, it offers an exciting lineup of entertainment. However, for larger seating arrangements, the chairs can be uncomfortable for extended periods. Additionally, there may be long wait times at the bar. Nevertheless, it's a decent spot where you can conveniently pay by card at the bar.
Saw Royksopp here in June 24 - really enjoyed the DJ set as the sound and visuals were fantastic! Nice crowd, although I didn’t realise how ‘pushy’ drunk Norwegian girls can be - they don’t care who they elbow to get to the front 😂😂

Ålesund Storsenter is a modern shopping destination located in the heart of Ålesund city center. It combines several historic Jugend-style buildings to house a variety of contemporary stores, including both well-known chain retailers and charming specialty shops. Visitors can explore clothing stores, departmental stores, and even sample local delicacies like whale, moose, and deer sausage at the eateries within the center.
Gorgeous sunrise, we had a great wander at lunchtime, starting in the small, modern and very interesting shopping centre near the port. We love that it leads right to the harbour front which was especially good for us as it was raining quite heavily until we emerged. Alesund never lets you down, it is a fascinating destination, and this time there were loads of options to get around if you don't want to stroll. The Hop on Hop off was waiting, we docked right at the bus terminal, there was a very popular land train which many chose. So close to the town centre we just love to stroll and explore.

Oh my fellow cruise ship passengers if you’re trying to find acne Studios, Stella McCartney, a beautiful leather jacket, or some Sprekenhus candles, or Aesop body lotion, come to this small modern mall. They have one store filled with all the good stuff called Modo. Prices are fair. Loads of earrings by Maria Black and Tom Wood.

Very clean and friendly area. The port is very close to the town centre and is efficient in helping you get from the ship to the dockside.

Indoor shopping Centre that includes clothing, groceries, and a few eateries like Burger King and coffee. Pub
Dirty Nelly Irish Pub in Alesund is a cozy and comfortable spot with a decent beer selection. The bar provides an attractive setting for solo travelers, and the friendly staff are eager to serve up drinks like Guinness. While some visitors noted typical pub offerings, others appreciated the great atmosphere and variety of beers available. Despite mixed experiences with service and music choices, Dirty Nelly Irish Pub seems to be worth a visit for those seeking a good beer in Norway.
Nice beer selection and friendly staff. Irish bar in Norway but they have local beer and far more than Irish beer.

Fantastic service. The staff is amazing and looks after their guests in the best way possible. Food selection is average, otherwise a must visit.

Restaurant
SOI ONE Ålesund is a delightful Thai restaurant that captures the essence of Thailand's vibrant food culture. With a commitment to quality and authenticity, each dish is crafted with pride and love, showcasing the rich flavors found in Thai street food. The inviting exterior and charming interior create a warm atmosphere for diners. Guests can enjoy the convenience of self-service by scanning QR codes or opt to order at the counter. Many have praised the quick service, with dishes arriving promptly and bursting with authentic taste.
Delicious. Glad we found this place....we noticed it from our tour bus and decided to check it out for lunch. My Pad Thai was excellent and my partner's Green Curry was stellar! Highly recommend if you're in Ålesund, Norway.
Todd J — Google review
I was so excited to see this Thai restaurant in Norway. The building is beautiful from the outside, and the interior looks very lovely. It's a cafe and self-service style. You can scan the QR code to order and pay. But I opted for the order at the counter. I was so looking forward to seeing the food. Wow, they're amazing, came out very fast, taste delicious and 100% authentic Thai and the real taste of Thai. We ordered Pad Thai, stir-fried minced beef with chilli basil, prawns Tom yum, a single prawn tempura, all served with good-quality Jasmine rice. The service is great, fast and friendly. I love the interior design of this place. It's modern, clean, and comfortable. Must try! Bill is 838KR or around £63. Must try!

One of those restaurants I like to return to as a tourist. The food is great, prices are affordable and the service is good. You find the restaurant in the centrum of the city. Can recommend the burgers as well!
Justin C — Google review
We ordered #21 Pad Kee Mao with prawn. The service was really quick, and the staff were very good. However, I think the chef should review the preparation of the dishes, as it wasn’t very good they mention dish will be spicy but it wasn’t spicy it was kinda sweet. I would rate it 4/10. The price also seemed quite high considering the portion size although I don’t mind paying more if the food is nice. The staff were helpful and resolved our issue quickly. Also, I noticed that if you take the food away from the restaurant, you don’t have to pay tax, but if you eat in, you do have to pay tax. But restaurants atmosphere is really good for everyone.
Arif R — Google review
I was looking forward to trying Thai food, but overall, the experience was average. The soup was overly sweet, with a lot of sugar. The grilled meat was a bit rubbery, and the only thing I could taste was the dark soy sauce—no depth of spice. The Thai iced tea was very watery and lacked the rich flavor I experienced in Thailand. The taste was reminiscent of Thailand, but the balance could be improved.
Natalia N — Google review
Food and service was fantastic. I decided to order a spicy dish and it sure was spicy but the kind lady at the counter gave me an iced jasmine tea to cool down and that really helped me. The mango with sticky rice was amazing.
Aditya M — Google review
Loved this restaurant, food was amazing and they made the dish gluten free for me. Service was great too, really kind waiters. Will come back when in Ålesund.
Marta C — Google review
Pretty mild for Thai food, the tom kha soup was weird, very bland, needed lime and salt. The red curry was decent, although again very mild, but a good mix of flavors, didn't really need much of anything. Lastly, the mango sticky rice. Definitely the best I've ever had, with such sweet mangoes and such delicious soupy sticky rice. Definitely worth trying, and skip directly to dessert. Weird thing, the prices are higher if you eat in as opposed to take out. Sort of the opposite of the way we do things in Oregon, where to go items get a fee added.

Restaurant
Scandic Parken is a modern hotel situated in the heart of Alesund, offering comfortable and minimalist rooms with great views. The hotel features an international restaurant, lobby bar, and a gym for guests to enjoy. Conveniently located on Alesunds main street, it provides easy access to shopping, dining, and entertainment options.
If you want a hotel with a central location, this is the one to go for. Parking available at extra cost. Breakfast excellent with so much choice. The only downside is nothing is open after breakfast on a Sunday. This is an issue we have encountered at other Scandic hotels and feel that it should be taken into consideration by the powers that be.
Nicholas G — Google review
Overall, we had a pleasant experience at this hotel, though there were a few areas that could use improvement. The staff were welcoming and attentive. Our room was clean and well-maintained. The hotel’s location is perfect for a stay in the city. However, there were a few aspects that fell short of our expectations. The breakfast buffet was fairly average for the price. Lactose free products and local specialties like brown cheese were missing, which was a bit disappointing. The bathroom was functional but quite small, especially the shower. Additionally, there was no shower rug, leaving the floor wet and slippery after use. Lastly, the pillows provided in the room were a bit of a letdown. We found them uncomfortable, which led to some neck pain and headaches during our stay.
Samuel B — Google review
Stayed at Scandic for 2 nights. The rooms are decent and get the job done if you’re staying for 24-48 hours. The superior rooms have a nice view of the cityscape and the water The biggest downside: Went out to get fresh air around 1AM, standing outside on the hotel premises by the smoking area. Within a minute I was approached by a taxi driver (he appeared out of nowhere) who made me feel uncomfortable and tried to instigate a conversation despite giving clear signs that I am not interested and want to be left alone in peace and quiet. He was very persistent about talking to me. The moment I decided to step inside the hotel, the man ashed his cigarette and disappeared, very strange timing. I felt very uncomfortable, especially as a young woman. So much so, that I now feel anxious going outside alone downstairs. While this is not the hotels fault, this is an important point for people who like to have fresh air while sleeping at night… Do not open the windows between Friday and Saturday night, if you have the view towards the water. Unruly tourists get so drunk that they think it’s ok to be screaming between 1-4AM. I had one of the worst sleeps of my life because of that

Often I choose a Scandic hotel as a first place. Because it is a good quality. The Scandic Parken is very close to some places such as Aksla viewpoint, Meet point for getting to Geiranger fjords. And the beautiful views to see the sea and mountains. I love it

I had a wonderful stay at Scandic Parken Hotel. The location is excellent—right in the heart of Ålesund, within walking distance to everything, including the harbor, shopping streets, and the famous viewpoint Aksla. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable, offering a fantastic view of the city and surrounding fjords. Breakfast was a real highlight—an impressive variety of fresh options including local specialties, fruits, pastries, and hot dishes. The staff were incredibly welcoming, professional, and always ready to assist with a smile. The overall atmosphere was warm and relaxing, making it a perfect base to explore this beautiful town. I highly recommend Scandic Parken to anyone visiting Ålesund!

The location of this hotel was perfect for us (Alesund isn't very big anyway), and it was especially convenient that the bus from the airport stops right in front of the hotel entrance. The complimentary hotel breakfast was also the best breakfast I had out of all the hotels I stayed in on this trip to Norway, and probably the best hotel breakfast I've ever had! Highly recommend staying here.

Had a great dinner at Sjøbua tonight! Perhaps the best fish I have had in a very long time. Main dishes are around 450 nok. Make sure you make a reservation, it was fully booked when we went.

One of our final meals during our 2.5-week trip through Scandinavia was at Sjøbua, where we treated ourselves to the tasting menu—and we are so glad we did. It was absolutely mind-blowing. The service was among the best we’ve ever experienced (and we dine out often), making the entire evening a pleasure from start to finish. The setting is beautiful, the food is exquisite, and every dish felt thoughtfully and artfully curated. For a date night, it was everything we could have wished for. If you’re a fine dining lover, this restaurant is an absolute must. We had a lovely time and would definitely return if ever we are in town again.

Such a beautiful authentic historical setting and lovely service. Food was very highly priced for the quality. Parker rolls with smoked butter was outstanding- would have ordered the seafood platter but at 850Kn a person it was not reasonable. The cheese cart offering was also very small proportions for 320Kn a person. Just felt everything was overpriced and we have been in Norway two weeks already so are used to higher prices.

Excellent dinner. Exquisite and sophisticated flavors for a special dining experience. Nice atmosphere. Highly recommended.

I was really looking forward to eat from this restaurant, as I was told that it's better than Apotekergata No. 5. But the food we had was underperformed. They were very salty, totally out of balance. Even when we told them that the lobster bisque was very salty, the other dishes came as salty. We had the sampling menu. In the end, we were glad that we didn't order individual dishes. The bread was not bad. It helped when the soup was unbearably salty. But I would say the lobster tail was fresh. The sampling order: The shrimp sashimi appetiser was not bad. The second best, if I have to rank the whole dinner, for its freshness. The next dish, lobster was mashy. Halibut was dry and didn't have the taste of fish. The sides and sauce for the quail were like drinking seawater. Quail was prepared nicely but tasteless as the sauce was too salty to go with. Best dish of this sampling was the dessert, which unfortunately, I didn't take a photo of it. The servers were helpful and polite, and service was good.

Booked this place near our hotel for a special dinner, early sitting. Nice decor with spectacular outlook onto the water. Polite staff but the menu wasn’t explained to us at all and they kept asking if we were ready to order. The table next to us got a detailed explanation of the menu and recommendations so it was clear we didn’t get the full explanation. We started with a couple of cocktails and caviar (why not) which were very pleasant. Caviar was served with brioche which I personally thought a bit too much and prefer blini and more simple flavour, it also came with cream and wild garlic oil and fish shavings which was quite nice. Sommelier was quite helpful with selecting a good Riesling off the menu. We had the langoustine and beef tartare which were both fantastic. They topped the entrees with caviar (black label) as well which was a nice touch. For the mains we had the dry aged turbot and this was so salty it was simply inedible. The best part of the dish was the single spear of white asparagus. The fried kale on top of the side greens was so oily and salty as well. The meal was going quite well until then so it was a huge disappointment and a letdown. We gave the feedback to the waitstaff, they acknowledged it and thanked us for the feedback but that was it. If our mains were edible I would have given this place a better rating. On this experience I cannot recommend or see myself returning.

A truly wonderful evening! Food, service, and atmosphere were excellent. A special highlight was the chef presenting the cheese selection herself, sharing her knowledge and passion for each variety. Thank you for this memorable experience!

Day 2

North side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the north side side of town. Start the day off with Aksla Viewpoint, Alesund, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Bro Kystgastronomi. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Aksla Viewpoint in Alesund, Norway is a must-see for travelers. It sits atop a hill and provides an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the city, surrounding mountains, and the stunning Geirangerfjord. You can reach the viewpoint by climbing 418 steps known as the 'Stairway to Heaven' or by driving to the top.
Walked up the 418 steps to the view point - the café wasn’t open, but the view is free. Loads of great views and there are plenty of additional walks along the hillside to explore. The steps were great fun and passed quickly - quite easy to climb and some fun numbering keep you informed as you go. Well worth the climb.

A must do when in Ålesund. You get the classic view of the city. Most spectacular in a fine day but be careful on the steps in wet and stormy or icy conditions. My recommendation is to go up the stairs from Byparken (The town park) and the to come down the little used track that starts about 100m past the restaurant. It is much more peaceful and is more gently on the knees apart from the last steps.

2023/Jun, we drive from Kristiansund through Atlantic road cross several islands and did some stops and photo taking then arrive in Alesund. The second day we drive around city ,harbor and country side. Close noon time,we drive up to the top hill to enjoy the 360 degree view of beautiful Alesund sitting around by sea and cruise ships with her beautiful color houses. Later we enjoy lunch and wind in a restaurants beside sea and colorful houses, it may tell the spectaculars and specialties and beauty of Alesund.

You don’t need to buy any tickets here. If you want to go to the top, there’s a restaurant where you can have some drinks or food and enjoy the view from inside, or you can go outside to the top. But it’s better to experience the view from outside. I don’t need to explain it the view speaks for itself. It’s even better if you take some drinks with you
Arif R — Google review
It is the the highest point inside the town to watch it from above. Amazing forests and paths to walk and enjoy the view. From the top you can get a 360 view. It is interesting to discover and walk through some tunnels scattered in the area. You can go there through the 400 steps, or through the road on foot or bus up to a point.

A highlight of visiting Ålesund is the view from Aksla Lookout Point (Aksla Utkikkspunkt) and walking down (or up) the 418 steps between Ålesund CBD and Mount Aksla. We were staying midtown, so walked up the quiet backstreets (Setrevegen, Fjelltunvegen) and trails to Mount Aksla. From there, we followed the pleasant wooded trail west to Aksla Utkikkspunkt. Later, we walked down the steps to Ålesund CBD. The wooded trail from Aksla Dam to the lookout point (Utkikkspunkt) was very enjoyable and not particularly busy until 100 metres from the lookout area. Also a couple of viewing spots along that trail. I think most folks take the tour train along Fjelltunvegen, and some walk along that road unaware of the trail the parallels the road. Aksla Utkikkspunkt and the 418 steps were understandably busy at the end of July but wasn't overwhelming (we saw two massive cruise ships docked below, and might have been others). A few very small stopping areas along the steps. Walking down (rather than up) the 418 steps seems to be an advantage because you are constantly facing different perspectives of the spectacular view. Visited at end of July 2025.
Steve M — Google review
Wonderful view across the islands, just a short walk from where the bus stops. The bus was a little expensive but it was a bit too far to walk from the cruise terminal. On the day we were there, some locals where handing out free hot chocolate (the best I’ve ever tasted) and hot dogs.

If you're planning a trip to Ålesund, make sure to include a visit to the stunning Fjellstua viewpoint in your itinerary. Perched atop Aksla mountain, this scenic spot offers breathtaking panoramic views of the charming archipelago adorned with colorful steep-roofed buildings. To reach this picturesque location, start your adventure at Byparken city park and tackle the 418 steps that lead you upward through lush greenery.
Nice clean quiet place I arrived right after it opened. Not much people, so it was quiet. Beatiful view and the ham cheese bun was nice. I would recommend to visit if you have time

Arrived by ship for the day, on a Sunday, so nothing open, but free to get into the viewing area. We walked up the slopes and 418 steps, but the town Road Train for tourists takes you up. Wrll worth it, great panoramic views.

So place was closed and had been for several months reading the feedbacks. Ok so a bit of a climb and when you get to the top the best view allegedly is from the cafe/restaurant. All closed so they charge NOK100 for the privilege ... Damn cheek really 😕 however some poor man paid and couldn't get through the barrier ... it's has been broken for ages yet they still STEAL the money 💰 and no view 😳. However walk up behind and the best place is marked a super view and nothing in the way ie ... trees bushes or large steel structure at the top. Oh by the way if there's a cruise ship in port be prepared for a "Locust Swarm" vying for the best views 😢 and the worst trait as we found with cuise locust was jam blocking 🚫 the path up and down taking several hundred selfie's. Our miss fortune was that we had 2 bloody cruise ships MSC Euribia & MS Rotterdam with 10,473 passengers spoiling the view.
KJP — Google review
The views were amazing. We had a sandwich, slush and a beer. The service was great. If you consume too use the restroom. We had our sandwich on the upper terrace where the views are amazing but windy.

Unfortunately this place was closed when we arrived. The views were amazing, but I would think the views from the restaurant would have been even better. I really would have liked to try this restaurant.
Maria P — Google review
We climbed the 418 steps up to Fjellstua and it was worth every step. The views are stunning from the platform of the restaurant. We just had some cake and coffee but should have planned it better because the restaurant and food were very inviting. But the views really are to die for.
Liam C — Google review
The place is not very aesthetically pleasing and it feels a bit like a canteen but they have gluten free cake and the coffee is good :)
Eveline V — Google review
Cafe wasn't open , so this review is based purely on the views, which are spectacular . If walking, then it's 418 steps and a number of slopes. However, there is plenty of seating on the way up to catch your breath and then lose it again when you see the wonderous views. I believe the land train train which tours alesund does go up here, I'm not sure on other forms of local transport. One way or another do get here its beautiful

Bybadet is a well-organized swimming and leisure pool offering various amenities for visitors. The facility includes a quiet zone, sauna, steam bath, fast track slides, bubble baths, and occasional waves. It also features diving boards of different heights, warm and cold pools, separate swimming areas for practice, hot tubs, and a wave machine. The modern and spacious venue provides beautiful changing rooms with easy-to-use lockers and baby tubs in the showers.
One of the nicest pools I have ever been. Great architecture and great for all ages

First time today and had a really good time! You can train your swimming in the long pools, jump from the 1, 3, 5 and 7,5m towers, compete on the two slides and relax in the two saunas. The two whirlpools and the steam sauna were full unfortunately on a Sunday (as to be expected). The only negative thing: The price is pretty high. Would come more often if it was a bit cheaper, like maybe 150 for adults.

LYST CAFE-BAR & FOOD offers a romantic atmosphere with the option of outdoor seating for a perfect date night. The menu features comfort food like baked potatoes, cheesy nachos, sandwiches, pastas, and traditional Norwegian soups. The place is known for its outstanding service and food quality. Customers recommend trying the chicken sandwich and praise the generous portions served. The cafe has a well-lit open space with lovely garden seating outside.
Really good food, great portions, fresh tasting, fresh ingredients and each dish comes out looking like it’s been created with a lot of attention. The staff is super nice and very helpful. One point of improvement, the dessert menu listed a Belgian waffle with ice cream and fruit. Unfortunately it was also soaked in chocolate, and if you don’t like chocolate (such as yours truly) that is an issue.

Well lit and open space. The food is served in big portions. There is a lovely garden and seating out front if the weather is nice. Great place for happy hour or a full meal. The decor was very pleasing. Best of all was that the volume inside was just right for conversation.

YOU MUST GET THE CHICKEN SANDWICH! Im currently looking for the aioli type drizzle the put on the sandwich so if someone happens to be at the cafe and can ask them what sauce that is please let me know!!! (its the whitish sauce you see in the photo) other than that masterpiece of a sandwich, great service, excellent food, and phenomenal atmosphere. Advice for foreign travelers such as I, you don't have to wait to be seated. You can sit at any table as long as a "reserved" sign is not posted on the table.

I really enjoyed my visit to this coffee shop. The environment is warm and relaxing, perfect for studying or working. Service was fast, and the staff were polite. Lovely location with good food and thoughtful touches The café is nicely located in the city, with plenty of seating two floors inside and a spacious outdoor area. The staff were very kind and welcoming. I recommend trying the rolls, and the traditional pancake was an interesting and tasty choice. The double shot cappuccino was also quite good. It’s worth noting they have restrooms available and even two donation baskets for clothes, which was a thoughtful addition. There’s also free parking nearby, but be aware that it’s limited to 30 minutes.

We enjoyed a take out iced Americano and lemonade. It has the taste of light roast coffee and not too acidic - was expecting a stronger coffee flavour. There are dairy alternatives such as oat or coconut milk. Service was friendly and the line moves along. There are bags of tea and coffee available for purchase. Conveniently located near shops, with indoor and outdoor seating.

Awesome little coffee place in town. We ate here multiple times for breakfast/brunch while visiting. They have a good selection of sweet and savory items. The coffee is quite good. The service was fast and friendly. It is a small place with seating on the ground floor, an upstairs section, and outside (when the weather is nice). It does get quite busy on the mornings and seating can be a bit tricky. Highly recommend when you are in town. Get the svele, which is a good Norwegian treat!

We were fortunate to enjoy a coffee and pastries at Racoon Coffee while visiting Alesund during a cruise. We were particularly impressed with the staff; as they went above and beyond to provide great customer service. The caramel latte was great and the coffee was excellent. We sat inside but they had a really nice outdoor area. The cafe was busy; understandably, but lines moved quickly.

The reviews are spot on about this place - very good coffee, great cakes and fast service. It’s busy, and can be packed when there’s a cruise in town, but there’s always a seat inside. There’s only 1 toilet so there was a bit of a queue for that, but otherwise it was a perfect shirt stop for a coffee break.

First meal in Alesund!! 5 course tasting menu was fantastic!! Salted cod was our least favorite but the clear soup base was amazing. Wish whale wasn’t in the set( don’t feel comfortable eating them) though it was well prepared😉So happy to have chosen this place by just looking at the pictures in the reviews! Well done chefs!! Services were attentive too!!

The menu here is seasonal and our expected dishes weren't available. They had instead a multi course meal, fixed price meal. We're generally an unadventurous family when it comes to food choices, but this was AMAZING! Our server incredibly attentive and the chef, Jonathan was an artist. They all had such pride in each dish and not a single dish disappointed! This was our best dining experience not just in Alesund, but to date. We highly recommend and whether you're an adventurous eater or not, trust the chef! Every course was art.

The best meal we had in Norway. A commitment to using local, fresh produce and seafood. Our server pointed out the boat from our window that had caught the langoustine we ate. We tried the tasting menu to get a bit of everything. Worth it. We loved the crab and salmon the most. The seared minke whale was an interesting dish. Like venison and liver. Our highest recommendation.

Super location and cosy atmosphere. Food is very tasty and frest. High quality and good value for your money. Friendly and experienced staff.

My fish and chips, came beautifully plated looking unexpected. The fish itself was tasty, fresh and of good quality. It came pared with one of the best side of fries I’ve ever had, extremely crispy and creamy at once; spiced perfectly. Take the crispy fish and chips and combine them with the sweet pea mash and the sweet fennel, contrasted by the sour carrots. Accompanied by a dip, made up from mustard, mayonnaise, dill and pees (assumptions), that was just refreshing, perfectly balanced and tasteful. The fish soup was tasty, fruity and nicely balanced with spices. The bowl came filled with a lot of fish and mussels. Alongside the soup came a few pieces of crispy and moist bread, as the waiter described it - the fish soup was heavenly and the fish and chips were fantastic. The service was kind and accommodating, all spoke perfectly fine English and tried their best with the other customers who didn’t. The restaurant is peacefully located of the Main Street, inside the Harbour area. The modern design harmonized beautifully with the traditional surroundings; allowing you to lean back for a hour and to enjoy your meal. The price was fair.

When Bro was fully booked, we gave this place a try - they share a kitchen and are connected with an internal staircase. Unfortunately I didn't take any photos but our standout dish was the celeriac - it doesn't sound interesting but it was delicious. The bread with aioli was also really good. The ox was just OK and the toast bikini was waaaay too salty - almost inedible! Staff were nice but it took a while to get their attention as it was so busy. Bar
Steinovnen Bar & Pizzeria is a popular spot known for its thick-crust wood-fired pizzas with creative toppings. The atmosphere is bustling, especially during peak times, but the service is fast and friendly. The menu may be in Norwegian, but the helpful owner ensures a pleasant dining experience. Visitors praise the delicious pizzas and recommend pairing them with local beers. Overall, it's considered one of the best places in Alesund for enjoying pizza and drinks with family or friends.
Great pizza and good beer served by helpful friendly staff in lovely Alesund. What's not to like?

We went on an Easter weekend, the place was pretty busy with take away orders, with few regulars by the bar. The host was a delight, she greeted us and showed us to the table kindly. You have to order by the bar, both the food and the drinks. We ordered a couple of beers and Italian pizzas. Vegetarian pizza was tasty, with good toppings. Good portion sizes and good taste for the price.

Regarding pizza its one of the best in the City. I normal go there to enjoy pizza, beer and fotball. And can recomend them for very good pizza. Have not been there during night time.

19.1.24 As of writing this, this is my first time here. I was expecting quite good food from here but sadly that was not the case. I ordered an Italian Parmigiano, and two American style pizzas (I was not alone). The Italian was by far the worst form the bunch, the dough reminds me of those bad/cheap DIY pizza dough that you can buy at a store, the sauce was mid and the cheese and toppings were fine. The American was not much better, its the kind of pizza that's served at the bowling alley, and the bowling alley does a better job (take it with a grain of salt, I haven't been at the bowling alley in a while but I do remember it being much better there). And the last bad thing were the dishes, I noticed that the dish I got was dirty and the fork and knife were dirty as well. But when the staff came, she was very nice and helpful and changed it immediately. The atmosphere is great, it's quiet, not many people and it looks good from the inside. Sadly I would not come again with how the food is currently and for what I paid the food I got was not good, but the staff were great and so was the atmosphere. 5/10

10 March 2017 - perfect place, very reasonably priced (compare to many other places in expensive Norway), very fast service, pizza baked in real oven with real fire - smooth and tasty - exactly what you need to warm up in cold Norway. As pizzeria - highly recommended!

We came here because the reviews were good and left very disappointed. Ordered italian style pizza which was very below average. Price is in norwegian standards. The mozzarella and tomato sauce were of very poor quality, therefore the pizza was overall not better than a frozen one. Would not recommend to my ex.

Alnes Fyr, a captivating lighthouse perched on the coast, offers breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding landscapes. This charming spot is not just about the stunning vistas; it also features a cozy café where visitors can indulge in delightful desserts while soaking in the atmosphere. The journey to Alnes Fyr takes you through picturesque Norwegian villages adorned with classic Nordic architecture, making it an enriching detour before heading to Ålesund's town center.
I always look forward to visiting lighthouses when I travel and I was very happy to find this one. Unfortunately, it was 3:00pm when we arrived, and the lighthouse and the cafe were closing, but we were able to walk up to the lighthouse to take pictures. The cafe was very clean and modern with big open windows with a beautiful view; we had walked in just as they were closing. There was plenty of parking and you had to pay to park. This beautiful lighthouse with scenic views was built in 1853 and stands 22.5 m high. This lighthouse is not a far drive from Ålesund and it is well worth the trip.
Maria P — Google review
Very calm place with lots of spots where you can simply sit and rest your mind. We arrived too early to enter the lighthouse or café, but we could still walk around and enjoy the landscapes — we even saw a rainbow. I strongly recommend bringing a thermos with tea or coffee; it makes the experience feel much cozier.

Lovely interesting lighthouse that you can enter and climb. The view is extraordinary.

I was not impressed with the light tower. If you don’t see the parking lot, you didn’t drive far enough. You have to drive pass the building to get parking lot(~20 spots).

Spectacularly isolated lighthouse - very steep steps/ladders to the top. Lovely visitor centre - how on earth they make it pay when it's in the middle of nowhere beats me, but it was all lovely.

Over a thousand years old and very unique in Norway. It is only church made of marble. Giske island is close to airport, so stop by before you turn in rental car. Small charge but worth the visit and the views.
David W — Google review
Giske Church: A Testament to Norwegian History and Architectural Brilliance. Nestled in the heart of Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Giske Church stands as a testament to both Norwegian history and architectural brilliance. Constructed in the 12th century, this marble parish church is not only one of the oldest continuously used churches in Norway but also the country's only marble church. The origin of the church's white marble is shrouded in mystery, but its journey to the island by boat and the subsequent construction showcases the determination and prowess of its builders. The church's architectural style, predominantly Norman, resonates with the architectural movements of the period. Giske Church was originally erected as a Benedictine monastery and underwent significant renovations over the years, including the construction of its main tower and new roof in the early 12th century. Its role as an epicenter of Catholic liturgy and education in the 1500s and 1600s underscores its historical significance. Following the Reformation in 1537, the church was repurposed for Protestant worship, with extensive renovations carried out in the 1750s and the 1860s. Inside, visitors can marvel at exquisite carvings depicting scenes from the Gospels of Jesus' life, such as the Last Supper and the Resurrection. The church also houses its original 12th-century cloister and a library where medieval books are preserved.

The staff easily switched to English once they knew I needed that. The sandwich I had was excellent with bread toasted just enough. The atmosphere was fairly quiet with a few other tables of people talking normally. An excellent place to sit and eat.

Came here for lunch with my wife on our Norway trip. I had the chicken wrap and my wife had the salad with chicken. The wrap had a sauce that had a bit of a curry flavor to it but it was quite good. The salad was large and also thoroughly enjoyed! We would definitely eat here and again and recommend it.

Hurtigruten Ålesund offers an impressive cruise experience from Alesund to Trondheim, showcasing the stunning Geirangerfjord. Passengers can also enjoy hot tubs on the outside decks while taking in the breathtaking views.
Our cruise from Ålesund on the Geirangerfjord to Trondheim was the highlight of our 2-week trip to Norway. The ship itself was impressive with clean, orderly spaces, excellent outdoor sitting and indoor lounge spaces, a wonderful dining experience, and hot tubs on the outside decks to enjoy the surroundings. But the best part was the incredible views we got to appreciate from the ship. We were very fortunate that our cruise was on a perfect sunny day, so the fjord was absolutely stunning with deep blue-green waters, majestic peaks and waterfalls, and bright green valleys dotted with rural homes. We were in heaven just sitting on the chairs outside on the sundeck and taking in the astounding views surrounding us. This is an experience of a lifetime and one we’ll always treasure

Pretty little town. We came on a Sunday, so only cafes open, but it's a nice walk along the waterside. If you're fit, you can walk up to Aksla lookout. It's 418 steps. You can also take a cab or a bus up there.

Poorly maintained boats mean Hurtigruten cannot be relied upon. Make sure you have alternative plans and sufficient funds for changes forced on you at short notice. Zero stars would be more appropriate. Unfortunately there is little choice of company so basically it’s hard luck if Hurtigruten let you down.

The Fisheries Museum in Ålesund is a captivating destination for anyone intrigued by the rich history of fishing and fish processing. This museum offers an insightful journey through the evolution of the fishing industry, showcasing various exhibits that highlight traditional fishing vessels and their significance to local culture. Visitors can immerse themselves in fascinating displays that narrate stories from Ålesund's maritime past, making it a must-visit spot for those wanting to understand how integral fishing has been to this coastal town's development.
Nice Museum which describes pretty well how the fishing technology and culture developed over the centuries. A lot of equipment and machines are on display. The location is the old fishing factory - the smell and the apearance are like back in the days... Also some old ships are on display. Nice.
Gunnar M — Google review
I had a bad allergy (to mold) flare-up after visiting here. The MUSTY smell was OVER-WELMING and everywhere in the main 3-story museum. All the exhibits were VERY old, and most of the exhibits on the 2nd and 3rd floors were in Norwegian, not English. We also thought the museum was expensive. We only saw 2 other couples there. I wish we never went.
Laura A — Google review
Fisheries Museum Alesund The Fisheries Museum portrays the historical development of fisheries and the on-land processing work – from the first bite in the water right outside of the house to the high-tech fishing vessels of today. By the beautiful harbour in Ålesund you can find the landmark Holmbua. The warehouse from 1861 escaped the great Town Fire of 1904, and today it holds Aalesunds Museums´ fisheries exhibitions. Take a stroll through the exciting displays and learn more about the town's production of dried cod and other types of fish products. Stop by the laboratory where cod liver oil is produced, the smell alone will set you in the right mood! You will also have the unique possibility to learn more about old trades that are practically extinct today, such as barrel making. In 2010, a new and large exhibition on sea fishing opened - worth a visit!
Sujith M — Google review

Stunning church up a hill in Alesund. Unusually it has a model ship hanging from the ceiling in the middle which apparently is common in Norwegian coastal towns. Insane fresco at the front. Costs £5 each to go in and worth it if you're going to 'read' the church a bit. Not to just go in and go ooh. Loved the severity of it.

Absolutely excellent food. All 3 dishes that we had (risotto, trout and pizza) were excellently prepared, delicious and full of flavour. The only shortcomings are the cold-looking furnishings and the very polite, yet a little sluggish service. Nevertheless, a highly recommendable restaurant.

Stellina B — Google review
My husband and I visited Dampssentralen on 25 June 2025, but unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. When we first arrived, we expected to be greeted and seated. Instead, we stood for several minutes while the waiters, who clearly saw us, continued serving other tables without acknowledging us. Even a simple “We’ll be with you shortly” would have been enough, but no one said anything. We were close to leaving because of this lack of basic courtesy, but decided to give the place one more chance and found ourselves a table. After sitting for a while without being offered menus, my husband eventually went to get them himself. A waiter then came over and took our order. We both ordered Caesar salad. We waited about 30 minutes for the food, and when it finally arrived, there was no cutlery. The waiter said he would bring it right away, but never returned. My husband was about to ask again when another waiter eventually brought it over. Overall, the service felt inattentive and disrespectful, which overshadowed the meal itself. Sadly, we left with a poor impression despite the food.

Absolutely phenomenal fish and chips. Easily the best I had in my 2 years here in Europe. The crinkle-cut fries are a great compliment to the 2 big size pieces of fish you get in the meal. The tartar sauce is amazing with it not being too heavy but at the same time packing lots of flavor. Amazing customer serves from the waitress and incredible amount of free sauces to choose from the condiment table (including vinegar)! 20/10 MUST RECOMMEND if you visit this town. Bonus the ice cream section attached is amazing!

The hotel was close to the center of Ålesund, and it had great views of the water. We saw ships pass by daily. The breakfast was outstanding with Norwegian bread and pastries that I love. The desk was very helpful with my requests on restaurants, transportation, etc. I loved the veranda on the water with the swinging chairs. Good value and quality.

This hotel is well situated and has a section with renewed rooms. They are spacey but the beds could definitely be better. The pillows are too soft and there are no options to get a better support if you have neck issues like me. The breakfast is always the same and a bit boring.

Great service, nice place. I'm the crew member of the cruise ship, it was pleasant over night I spent here. Just wanted to share my suggestion to the social restaurant, perhaps it would be better if you show the menu first before you give chef recommendations. Overall great service, good job. 👍🏻

This is a waterfront hotel near the harbor. Unfortunately, there is nothing else good other than the location. The bed is so worn that gave me a back pain. The bathroom flooded when we took a shower. Our room was noisy. The check in time is at 3 pm . The breakfast is mediocre. We really like Ålesund. But we definitely will not come back to this hotel.

I had the privilege to stay in this beautiful establishment for a three nights stay. The location is perfect the hotel is beautiful inside and out and the staff were just as lovely and beautiful as the hotel itself. The dinning area/restaurant served an amazing breakfast that came with the reservation. The bar was open and ready to serve in the evenings and the view from the hotel lobby as well as the commons area of the hotel were lovely. If you walked out of the backdoor area you walked right onto the pier looking onto the water and scenic views. The rooms were very accommodating. The mattress a little too soft for my liking but everything else made up for it. Standard room beautiful equipped with tv shower and views. One of the suits you will see for yourself well worth the time effort and money it would cost.

Really nicely done out hotel. The staff go above and beyond to ensure you have the best stay possible. The place was super clean. My only issues were that the restaurant is closed on a Sunday. I was there on business and the meals were paid for by my company which means I had to buy my own food on a Sunday. Also they need black out blinds in the rooms. The curtains do not come together well enough and it doesn’t get properly dark in the summer months. I prefer a pitch black room to sleep.

I didnt booked a room, but we fell in love with Ålesund so much that we decided to stay the night and I got a room for the family at short notice when I went to visit the hotel. The room had a beautiful sea view and was clean, the service was really friendly and all my requests were taken care of. There was also good parking place outside the hotel. I can recommend this hotel!

The Greedy Box is a tempting option for those looking to indulge in delicious food from Tante Bruun, Lets Eat Deli, and Baera. Whether you're craving an old favorite or want to try something new, this place has got you covered. The Vegan Vibes loaded fries are a must-try, featuring a vegan patty, vegan cheese, homemade garlic dressing, and BBQ sauce.
burger I’ve ever had! I don’t usually enjoy burgers that much, but this one was absolutely worth it. I had the vegan BoB’s Burger and my partner had the spicy one with meat — he was just as impressed. A lovely little restaurant with great staff! 100% recommend!

Really chill and relaxed place to enjoy an amazing burger in Alesund! We meandered the town after the cruise ships left and found this wonderful spot to our liking. My wife is vegetarian and LOVED the Pineapple Express burger. I got the Bob's Burger and was equally as excited to eat it; so much flavor! Highly recommended as its one of the best burgers I've ever had!

This is the best burger I've ever had. The burgers are all made fresh, even the buns are hand made by them. We tried Bob's burger, the blue cheese burger and the spicy burger and all of them were fantastic. Flavours were strong with nuances that you can appreciate, and it's quite a huge burger as well! I've been in Norway for about half a year now, and the food has not wowed me until now. I did not expect to find this gem here. Please visit!!! Bobby was extremely kind and warm to us, and carefully explained all the menu items and gave recommendations too. He was simply the best!!! A cool place for a quick meal and a good alternative to fancy restaurants in the area, if you'd like to have something simpler. Burgers were delicious and juicy. The pineapple one had a really nice twist to it.

Sunnmøre Museum is an open-air museum located in Sunnmøre, Norway that showcases historic homes and period boats from medieval times to present. The museum offers exhibits on people's history, houses, and objects from the local region, providing visitors with a glimpse into life several hundreds of years ago. Set amidst a beautiful natural landscape, the museum also offers recreational opportunities for those who are not interested in museums.
This place is really nice and peaceful. You should totally visit and see those old buildings. It'll give you a good glimpse into the history of Ålesund. It's like a big open-air museum. My wife and I had a great time taking cute pictures there on a bright sunny day.

Living History in a Lovely and Peaceful Setting To visit Sunnmore Open-Air Museum you’ll need to make your way up to charming Alesund, a worthwhile stop for many reasons! The museum boasts a truly wonderful presentation of Norwegian history, and was to us much more enjoyable than the thorough but somewhat overwhelming Folk Museum in Oslo. The grounds at Sunnmore are meticulously kept. The strategic layout of the historic buildings plus thoughtful landscaping takes full advantage of the sun and lakes, offering endless back-lit, dreamy Norwegian vistas from every angle. The nearby mountains were still snow-capped during our visit, adding to the folktale atmosphere. Be sure to walk over to the church, but be respectful that this is a cemetery still in use. Note: there is handicapped parking close to the museum. Alesund is easily reached by air from anywhere in Norway. Rent a car at the small and efficient airport and begin exploring. There are many fantastic towns like Andalsnes within easy driving distance of Alesund. This region is worth far more exploring than one stop on a cruise ship itinerary can ever give you.

I went in the weekdays and it’s really relaxing for leisure walk/ hike. The park itself doesn’t have much guide but the paths are clear enough to lead you to all the key areas. The exhibits/ houses well displayed and demonstrated how the Norwegian live in the past. Quite an interesting place to explore.

Mount Aksla is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Ålesund. This stunning summit offers breathtaking views of the town, its picturesque harbor, and the surrounding archipelago, all framed by the majestic Sunnmøre Alps in the background. The journey to the top involves climbing 418 steps, which begins at a charming pedestrian street near Byparken park.
A great hike to the top and amazing views once you arrive. Lots of opportunities to do some additional hiking and sightseeing in the nearby area.

A total rip off. The whole point of visiting was for the view and the cafe. The cafe was closed ( we got there about 11.30 am on a Wednesday) and consequently no toilets so check to see if they cafe is open before you go. The view point was open but 100 NOK ( about £7.50) which is a complete rip off in my opinion as you can see just as much from the view points outside of the Building. The views are stunning but beware there are no toilets other than the ones in the cafe.

Jukebox is a charming record store in Alesund that offers a diverse collection of both new and second-hand vinyl records. Visitors have praised the friendly owner's expertise and helpfulness in finding specific titles. The store has been described as cozy, with an excellent selection of albums at reasonable prices. While some visitors were disappointed by the absence of specific records, they appreciated the staff's knowledge and willingness to provide information about re-press dates.
Friendly little record shop with a good mix of old and new vinyl and second hand stock. Covers a broad range of genres . Easy walking distance from the cruise terminal and town centre.

Aalesunds Museum offers a comprehensive look into the town's history, covering its rapid 19th-century expansion, significant role in World War II, and Jugendstil architecture. Visitors can explore the region's sealing, fishing, shipping, and industrial history. The museum features an intriguing replica of a lifeboat from a century ago and an original telephone used by Alexander Graham Bell for Europe's first phone call.
Great museum. If you are interested in history of Alesund, this is the place to go. Very informative and interesting. My favorite museum of our trip to Norway. If traveling as a family, there is a map with stickers where you have to place the items in the correct rooms, so the whole family is engaged. It looks small on the outside, but the place is crammed with information and items, such as an original telephone from Alexander Graham Bell which was used to make the first phone call in Europe. Highly recommended.

Aalesunds Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Ålesund’s rich history, from the devastating 1904 fire to the city’s unique Art Nouveau rebirth. The exhibits are well-organized, with engaging photos, models, and artifacts that bring the maritime and cultural heritage to life. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the building itself is a piece of history. A small but captivating museum that perfectly captures Ålesund’s spirit.

When visiting Alesund, make sure to take a leisurely walk along the harbor and Kongens Gate to appreciate the stunning art nouveau architecture. Don't miss out on a visit to the Art Nouveau Center for an immersive experience into the town's unique history, and indulge in their famous daily-baked chocolate cake. For panoramic views of Alesund, hike up to Aksla Viewpoint.
Though the menu at XL Diner ranges fairly widely, many, like us, will come for its bacalao/klippfisk specialities. We weren't disappointed. Describing the traditional klippfisk as bacalao reflects the punchy recipes inspired by Spanish, Portuguese and Italian dishes. The chef-patron told us that the fish used is the mighty Skrei - a large migratory cod, fished off the Lofoten Islands - which is salted and preserved in Ålesund and aged for two years before being rehydrated and cooked. The fish is excellent - moist, meaty flakes - and stands up well to the Mediterranean flavourings. We started with a nicely-decorated creamy fish soup. Service was excellent and welcoming. The house French white wine is a little bit dull, but there are interesting other choices, reasonably priced (for Norway!). A very enjoyable evening.

XL Diner came recommended by everyone and it did not disappoint. The location in atmosphere is wonderful. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. We had a great table by the window for a wonderful view while we had dinner. The food was first class. We finally got to try some Bagalou. We went with the Royal Bagalao with Saffron Mussels starter. Both were excellent!
Jarrod S — Google review
Food was incredible and MASSIVE portions (sadly I still ate everything because it was too good to leave!) service was impeccable. We were over 3 hours late to our reservations and the restaurant was full and the chef still made space for us. The view is gorgeous too. While the prices aren’t necessarily cheap, it is a GREAT price for what you get, the quality of the food, the taste, and the view. I would highly recommend!
Arianna B — Google review
We dined there recently for dinner. Had a lovely time and food was excellent. Was quite busy (one table of over 18) so our waitress was distracted and service suffered a little. Definitely try if you’re in Alesund.

good food and good service! gets quite busy so would recommend making a reservation. staff was very attentive and also kind enough to let us order one royal bacalao set when it's usually meant for more! all were so tasty (maybe a tad too salty if i had to nitpick) and we loved the fish soup too
Ct — Google review
The restaurant was packed but I managed to get a seat. They treated me very well even though I was by myself. I wasn’t very into eating bacalao - I’m prejudiced when it comes to fish (wanting it fresh). But this is amazing! I’d totally eat it again. They changed my mind with regard to bacalao. And the seafood soup is the best I’ve had in my life (i do not say this lightly - I eat all over the world making one big trip around the world each year and I take food seriously giving many sensational places 2/5). I will come back one day!

The food was delicious, every plate we ordered was great. The food was perfectly seasoned and presented. Chef Roar is absolutely the best. He is the life of the place. He talked to us and explained many things about bacalao and other Norwegian dishes. He brought a salted cod to the table to show and explain details on it, then he brought a bacalao book that explained even more details. Amazing, thank you!

Fisketorget Delikatesse AS is a seafood market and sushi bar located in Alesund, Norway. It's highly regarded among the top restaurants in the area. The establishment offers a delightful buffet called "Etter jobben tapas" every Wednesday, providing an opportunity to savor new flavors without having to cook. Visitors have praised it as a pleasant surprise and a must-visit while in Norway.
We came here for the salmon at the recommendation of the staff at the hotel. He told us that Fisketorget has the best salmon in town. I don’t know about other places in town, but I can’t imagine better. The salmon was baked to perfection, tender and flaky and surrounded by a delicious sauce on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes. The langoustine soup was flavorful and full-bodied without being fishy or overwhelming. The server was polite and formal, not especially interactive or warm. I prefer more a friendly server, but I guess, ultimately I was there for the salmon, not the server. And the salmon was amazing! Mission accomplished

The food was really good — we had fish soup, sushi, and a salad, and everything tasted great. But the service was a bit off. Our order was taken wrong, we had to ask three times for a glass of wine, and the “vegetarian” salad came with salmon. They fixed it, but it took a while, and my soup got cold while we waited since I didn’t want to eat before everyone else. Awesome food, just wish the service had been smoother.

We wanted a seafood restaurant for dinner and this fitted the bill. We get great fish and chips at home in Scotland so looking for Norwegian dishes. It was busy when we arrived but there are seats upstairs as well as down, so don’t be put off if downstairs looks full. We did manage to get a table downstairs which was cleared and cleaned for us. The waitress was friendly and efficient and we quickly ordered drinks as she put water on the table. We chose two starters each as these were the dished we preferred. Unfortunately, the understanding that soup first, other dishes later didn’t reach the kitchen and we got them all together. Fish soup was loaded with seafood, the lobster bisque was more delicate as you would expect. We quickly started our crayfish and scallops starters too, which we supplemented with sweet potato fries. It was all lovely, thoroughly enjoyed it. The place remained busy all the time we were there. Being down at the sea front, it would be easy to miss this place, well worth seeking out.

For a Chinese person, this meal wasn't particularly outstanding, but for me, who hadn't tasted familiar food in a week, it was great.

Yesterday evening, I went to this restaurant on the second floor and the food was very good. I ordered a “chicken soup” for 99 kr and then a “And Chop Suey” (a duck dish) for 309 kr. Both were really delicious. I appreciated that they waited until I finished my soup before bringing the duck dish, since it had to be eaten fresh and hot. The duck skin was nice and crispy, and if it had been sitting in the sauce for too long, it would have lost that texture. I really liked that they paid attention to this detail. 👌🏻 The service was good overall, although the waitress didn’t seem to know much about the dishes. So, choosing the duck dish felt a bit like an adventure. Luckily, my choice turned out great, and I left very happy with the food. The atmosphere was nice and tidy. The only thing that could be improved is the attitude of the cashier: She didn’t seem very kind. I think that could be improved, and the staff could also get better training to describe the dishes and help customers choose. I have no complaints about the food itself: everything was tasty and had a homemade touch, which was really nice.
