Roskilde Cathedral, a 12th-century Gothic brick cathedral in Denmark, is a significant monument due to its unique architecture and historical importance. It is the first brick-built Gothic-style cathedral in Scandinavia and has evolved over 800 years to reflect changing architectural styles. The cathedral serves as the royal family's burial church, housing the tombs of numerous kings and queens. Visitors can explore its imposing exteriors and interiors while learning about Danish history.
You have to visit Roskilde Cathedral! Its amazing brickwork and unique style are so impressive, but the history inside is even better. Exploring the royal tombs is truly fascinating – especially look for the hidden tombstone of the three-legged horse and other cool myths surrounding the royal burials! The stunning Antwerp altarpiece and detailed royal tombs are also a beautiful sight. It was a fantastic visit, totally worth your time to discover its secrets!

As a history enthusiast, I was absolutely blown away by Roskilde Cathedral. This UNESCO World Heritage site is not just a stunning architectural marvel, but a living timeline of Danish royal history. Touring it with Ophelia Tours made the experience even more unforgettable - our guide Rene was knowledgeable, passionate, and made the entire visit engaging and fun. The cathedral’s sheer historical significance is staggering. It’s the final resting place of over 40 Danish monarchs, including Queen Margrethe I and King Christian IV. Walking through its chapels feels like stepping back in time - each one reflects the artistic styles and political shifts of the era in which it was built. From Gothic to Baroque to Renaissance, the cathedral is a tapestry of over 800 years of Danish history. The detail inside is breathtaking. The intricate tombs, the majestic organ, the soaring vaulted ceilings, and the peaceful crypts all tell powerful stories. I especially loved learning how the cathedral evolved over time and seeing how each generation left its mark - something you rarely get to witness so vividly in one place. Roskilde itself is a charming town, full of cozy streets, great cafés, and a welcoming vibe. It made the perfect day trip from Copenhagen - peaceful, beautiful, and rich with history. Highly recommend both the cathedral and Ophelia Tours. This was truly a highlight of our Denmark trip!

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Today we celebrate its 30yrs. Very much worth a visit. Roskilde Cathedral is one of the most meaningful places to visit in Denmark, see a thousand years of Royal history, architectural masterpieces and art. Parking: limited parking available, 2hrs free parking and there will be a charge after that. Toilet is available inside the cathedral Disability access: may be a bit challenging as most areas have stairs. But may go around the plain floored part of the cathedral Original structure: Began as a church built by King Harald Bluetooth around 980 AD (made of wood). • The current brick cathedral replaced the earlier church around 1170–1280. • It was one of the first Gothic-style cathedrals in Scandinavia, built mainly from red brick, influencing church architecture across Northern Europe. 👑 Royal Burial Site • Since the 15th century, Roskilde Cathedral has been the main burial site for Danish monarchs. • Over 40 Danish kings and queens are buried here — including: • Queen Margrethe I (founder of the Kalmar Union) • King Christian IV • King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid • Future monarchs, like Queen Margrethe II, also have tombs prepared there - refer to last photos Inside the Cathedral • Richly decorated altars, frescoes, and royal sarcophagi. • Features impressive organ pipes and historic tombs made of marble and alabaster. • Each royal chapel is unique, showing how Danish art and architecture evolved through the centuries.

A true marvel of a cathedral, a burial place for many Danish kings. We took a tour that took as to the cathedral on a bus. We arrived right before the opening, and the whole place without crowds that appeared a short while later. The place is rich in history but a tour guide really helps to appreciate that. Otherwise it may look like a regular church.

A really cool spot to learn more about the Danish royal family! It is like a museum where you can read about the lives of those laid to rest there. Beautiful architecture and artwork.

I live in Rome. Many people from all over the world come here. I know our beauties, yet Roskilde Cathedral is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. It's full of imposing, celebratory monuments. What you feel, standing there, is the solemnity of the Danish kingdom.
Anthony G — Google review
This cathedral is definitely worth visiting. The interior architectural is beautiful and this place holds so many of the kings grave and they are so beautiful!!! The entrance ticket is also more reasonable than the other places of interest...
Food L — Google review
Not far from the Roskilde Station. Going into Roskilde Cathedral feels like walking straight into the past. This is where Danish kings and queens have been buried for hundreds of years. You'll walk past royal tombs some in fancy and beautiful stone bed for a queen or king. The real "design" highlight is the royal chapels, which are like small museums themselves. Each one was built in a different time period, so you see everything from medieval wall paintings to huge, dramatic Baroque and Renaissance tombs.

The staff is very very friendly - mostly international volunteers from different countries. Plus their music venue (they call it the ‘tank’) is awesome for concerts.

Marina
Roskilde Harbour offers a charming setting for dining and drinks, with Snekken Trattoria providing a lovely Italian restaurant experience accompanied by picturesque harbor views, especially enchanting during summer sunsets. The area is perfect for leisurely strolls along the water's edge or simply relaxing on the pier to take in the scenery. History enthusiasts can explore the Viking Ship Museum, while nature lovers will appreciate the serene ambiance.
We visited Roskilde Harbour for an evening walk at sunset, and it was absolutely beautiful. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful, with hardly anyone around. The view over the fjord as the sun set was simply stunning — golden reflections on the water, soft light on the boats, and a sky full of warm colours. There were plenty of ducks, coots, and seagulls around, which added to the peaceful, natural vibe. It felt like a little moment of escape from everything. This spot is truly worth a detour — especially at sunrise or sunset. If you're in Roskilde, don't miss it, it's worth your time !!!

We dined in one of the domes, which was a very cozy experience. It does make the overall dinner a little more expensive, but it is very nice for a special occasion. Dinner is slightly pricey, but the food and service are excellent, which makes it worth it.

Booked a table (recommended, as it can get full). Calm atmosphere, very friendly staff, and helpful with internationals and solo travelers. Fast service, fresh and delicious food, great bread, and a beautiful view of the fjord and the garden. Cake and coffee were nice, prices fair. Overall, a very pleasant experience.I’ll definitely come back.

Very nice and cozy restaurant. Currently they offer traditional Danish Christmas lunch and it tastes quite good. The waiters are very friendly.
Fabian V — Google review
Found this place with all the good reviews and it didn't disappoint. My husband had the roast beef smørrebrød and I had the stjerneskud. Warning you need a big appetite for that one. I only managed half of it. Stjerneskud is my absolute favourite and order it whenever I see it and I have to say it is the best I have ever had! The fish filet was large and breaded and fried at the restaurant, so not frozen and deep fried, you can tell the difference. The prawns were plump and fresh, the other fish, steamed I think, was also nice and fresh. The service was very good especially given that we didn't book. We didn't know when we would be there. Also there was a large party in the main part of the restaurant. However we got our food quite rapidly even so. I was able to get the attention of the waiting staff so I could get the bill and that never happens! it's always the most annoying part of a restaurant experience - trying to get the bill. Looking forward to going back some day. We don't actually live in Roskilde so it's a bit of trek but well worth it!

Cosy and heart-warming restaurant that serves authentic Danish cuisine. Went with friends for lunch while visiting Roskilde. Patience staff explaining main course offer and trying her best to meet all our requests and we have 6 of us! They really doing a great job. Affordable price with appropriate portion. Restaurant accepting credit card and plus point is next to Roskilde Cathedral. I will definitely back here again one day!

Adorable restaurant with cozy ambiance and good service. My chicken salad smorbrod was nothing special, I wouldn’t order it again. But I would definitely come back and try more items from the menu and enjoy the view when the weather is nicer.
Jana M — Google review
Really good homemade food, I had 2 open sandwiches, one with chicken salad and one ‘fiskefillet’ (pan fried flounder), both with tasty homemade garnish too! The service were generally good, it was clear to us that the two waiters were quite busy based on all the guests, however they were nice and delivered good service. The surroundings are amazing, when sitting outside you have a view over the park and a sea view too! Only thing really pulling the rating down is the decor (or at least outside) it’s like the quality is just a level down vs inside and vs everything else. But generally a good experience and a place worth visiting

Whilst visiting Roskilde Cathedral we decided to make use of our Copenhagen Card by paying a visit to the Museum, which is located close by. There were some interesting artifacts to see but a lot of the information was in Danish and aimed at older children / adults. The museum itself is located in a very historic building and is set across several rooms on different floors. In summary it was enjoyable but it definitely needs combining with other attractions to make a visit worthwhile.

A lovely city museum. Roskilde was an important medieval city and this museum tells its story. Nice staff who seemed a little surprised at our visit (everyone goes to the Viking ship museum). Good prehistory gallery with a aurochs skeleton and Viking burials. Lots on the history of the town A very nice cage too, if a little pricey. Recommened if visiting the Viking ship museum too. It's well signposted and free with a Copenhagen card

Visited with the Copenhagen card. It’s a hidden gem in roskilde which often gets overlooked. Really good exhibitions as each rooms are specially designed to match their theme which is quite different from the standard exhibition rooms. Learned quite a lot about the local history and some very ancient artefacts such as the aurochs.

Was amazing. Unfortunately most of the displays are not in English but Google translate came in handy haha. A few English posts and signes were around bit not nearly as many as I would have expected for a tourist attraction. The receptionist did warn us when we boight tickets so we were prepared luckily. Amazing displays and would still recommend visiting. The museum goes into alot of the history of Roskilde and some amazing finds are displayed. I absolutely loved looking at everything.

We enjoyed everything we ate, drank ,service, atmosphere and location . Those burgers and fries were yummy! Free bottle of water came with the bottle of wine Price: we spent 108€ but it wasn’t bad considering that you are in Denmark and there was also a bottle of wine .

Love the atmosphere - superb! Somehow the staff were not very attentive to their customers. I needed to call them to direct me to the table and take my order. Nothing special about the fish and chips but the beer was great. Nice views!

A real hidden gem! We hesitated to come because of the low ratings... but thankfully, we gave it a try — and it was totally worth it! The food was delicious, with fresh, homemade ingredients. Special shoutout to the beef carpaccio, full of flavor, and the fish and chips, perfectly crispy and not greasy at all, served with homemade fries. But the highlight: the passion fruit cocktail — honestly, the best I've had in Denmark! On top of that, the lovely view and decent service made it a really enjoyable experience. This place definitely deserves a better rating. We’ll happily come bac

We had drinks with calamari, it was delicious. You could tell the servers were beginners, I once did that job. I blame the manager for not proper training. We were sitting down for 15 mins until I finally had to call a server, which was super nice. When the food came he just plopped the silverware in the table in a bunch. A place like this, with such prices, require much more. Managers do your job, train your staff! In all it was a great experience, the view is great the beer was really good and I recommend going when visiting the Viking museum and the fjord.

Amazing place to eat, and I would happily drink the Sauvignon Blanc all night long. The food was really good, had the steak fries, and had a medium steak. It could have had another minute on the grill and a rest before serving, but I am being very picky. All 6 guests were very happy with the quality and quantity of food 👌 Would come here again Service was good, young and friendly, helpful and quiet around the restaurant. The drink service was a little slow. I could easily have had another, but I wouldn't wait for it. The restaurant had approx. 30% of full capacity at the time of our visit

If you're looking for something special for Valentine's Day, this place might be worth considering. The food has received positive reviews and is rated highly by many customers. surprisingly good Vietnamese Street food! I was together with some friends and our kids play together. By evening we were very hungry. we were 4 adults 7 kids . we took half an hour to find what to eat tonight . I just want to get something to eat close to Copenhagen central where we live. Mostly because we were tired and the kids too. but 2 of my friends suggested that we should drive to a restaurant in Roskilde ,which is 30 minutes away from where we live, and that restaurant worth the time to get there. I wasn't much for that but took off with them anyway. An experience I didn't expect. There was perfect atmosphere from the moment I stepped into the restaurant. all my childhood memories just came back. The wonderful smell of street food from kitchen, those picture on the walls, those chairs, the floor. so simple and wonderful at the same time. The menu was simple and easy to understand. not so many dishes. but all sounds good to me 😋 The lady in the kitchen came out and told us some different dishes that we should try and we took some other to try out the menu. Every single dishes was perfect. The tast of food reminded me my childhood. since I were born and grow up in Vietnam so I am away more skeptical when it come to Vietnamese food in other country. not always that I can taste something that authentic like this. For the wonderful decor, service, and foods I must rate it with 5 🌟. my family and me will definitely come back for more of this experience ❤️ thank you because of you I got my childhood moment back 🥰 I enjoyed the food so much that I didn't take any picture of them. Only when I saw my daughter picked up those crispy spring rolls skin to dip in the good dips sauce and licking her finger that I took a picture of her 😅

Highly recommendable Vietnamese restaurant. Very decent food with especially good starters. The staff is friendly and nice to explain the different dishes. At best the settings is authentic, maybe a bit over the top with the plastic chairs and wobbly tables, but hats of for taking a chance and at the end it works. The food is great and the prices are more than fair. If the floor wasn’t so slippery and the seats had been more comfortable, it would have been to a fifth star.

Indulge in a delightful meal while taking in the breathtaking landscapes. The restaurant onboard, known as Restaurant Roskilde, serves high-quality and flavorful dishes with amazing desserts. Choose from a nice selection of wines for dinner and enjoy teas and coffees for dessert.
Fantastic cruise of the Roskilde fjords. There's nothing better than an excellent meal enjoyed while viewing beautiful scenery. The food is great quality, flavorful, and well presented. The desserts were AMAZING. Nice selection of wines for dinner, and teas and coffees for dessert. After dinner, you can enjoy some fresh air on the boat deck. As a close to the evening, the captain selects a guest to shoot a canon at the setting sun. A lovely experience overall. Good for small groups. You can visit the viking museum as a pre-dinner activity.

We had such a lovely experience here! The staff was wonderful and helped explain everything. There were no menus in English but our waitress explained the dishes and then how to eat them the traditional Danish way. You will definitely need to make reservations, I emailed in advance to ask for assistance and one of the staff responded back quickly and we were able to get the reservation without a problem. I highly recommend making a trip to Roskilde to visit the M/S Sagafjord!

Excellent cuisine, beautiful scenery, reasonable prices. It’s an awesome concept - lunch or dinner on a boat trip. I don’t think it gets much more romantic than that. Staff was good but not great. There is one universal rule any chef in a kitchen know of and that is if you have sold a menu you stick to that. How on earth does tenderloin becomes cold, hard to chew veal? Your plate is filled with porcelain instead of food and even a petite woman is really hungry afterwards.

Restaurant
Restaurant Raadhuskælderen, located in the basement of Roskilde's old city hall, is known for its good bistro food and cozy atmosphere. The long compartmented room can get noisy when full, but the breakfast is worth a try. The restaurant also offers a pleasant garden area under a huge apple tree. Visitors praise the fantastic flavors and beautiful presentation of the menu items, as well as the attentive service.
Right next to the cathedral, probably best restaurant in Roskilder. There is inside and outside sitting, gets busy but the service is attentive and fast

Really good Danish restaurant that gives you a real taste of what Danish food can taste like. It's very much comfort food that fills your belly with warmth. Had three courses that started with a really nice soup, followed by some tender meat, mashed potatoes and pork cracklings, this was delicious and to follow it up with some dessert. Overall happy with this place and would definitely consider coming back again
Christian H — Google review
An excellent restaurant a stone throw away from the cathedral. It's in a corner, slightly hidden but very much worth experiencing. The food is absolutely delicious, and the lunch platter is a great option to sample different types of food without worrying about choosing manually. The service was polite and pleasant, giving us great advice to inform our choice and choose the right drinks to go with. Stop there for a break!

My first full day in denmark, and I visited Roskilde because of the viking(ship) musuem. This restaurant was recommended to me by google, because I wanted to try some Danish cuisine and I was not dissapointed. I learned that danes like the idea of putting a lot of varied stuff on a slice of breat, and this restaurant also had a few of these on their menu, so I tried it. It was really good! It looked great, tasted good, the price was fine - it was just a bit weird to eat 😅 Normally with breat, you have your stuff on it and eat - but on the danish meal version, there is just soooo much on it, you can't possibly eat it all with a bite. I probably looked a bit weird to the locals, but still enjoyed my meal nonetheless. The service was also great, while it was really busy, they still found a small spot for me to sit and eat - all while being super helpful and friendly. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area, and want to experience good service and food!

Fantastic food and unpretentious service. Enjoyed lunch here more, and at a fraction of the cost, compared to Noma affiliate Restaurant Barr in Copenhagen for example. Highly recommended!

Department store
RO's Torv, an urban mall established in 2003, offers a diverse range of shopping and dining options. Visitors can explore clothing and grocery stores, as well as restaurants serving various cuisines such as burgers, Indian, and Thai food. The mall also features a cinema, gym, and a baby lounge for added convenience. Additionally, the top floor houses KINO biograph movie theater. Free parking for two hours is available with easy access to the shopping area.
Good place for shopping, many different shops with clothes, toys, goods for the house, food. There are several cafes and fast food areas.

Visited Ro’s Torv yesterday. It’s a modern and clean shopping mall with plenty of shops and places to eat. Easy to walk around and a good spot for some casual shopping.

This is amazing spot, with variety of shops and restaurants from different parts of the world, including Thai and danish. They have a movie place at the top, KINO biograph which is quite decent, I haven’t had the privilege to watch anything in 3D here, but shows everything I think all in 2D

Has a nice baby lounge on the second floor. Also has a movie theatre. Free parking for 2 hours. Parking garage is not really integrated into the building though. No matter which floor you park your car, you have to go down to the ground floor to enter the shopping area.

Restaurants, cafe's, a baby lounge, play room for preschool kids, fitness centre and a movie theater - this place has it all as well as excellent parking space! Lots of gift opportunities - wine, spa, health, jewellery. The only thing I really miss is a florist 🌻

Personally I'm not a fan of shopping malls, but if that's your thing, then RO's torv is probably a great place. It looks somewhat like any other shopping mall in Denmark but it's a little bit small. It does however have the usual ton of clothing shops, small food vendors and other shops you would expect to find in a shopping mall.
Henrik J — Google review
Complete shopping center, has everything from clothing shops to luxury food shops, from book shops to supermarkets, and from restaurants to low budget shops. If you need anything f any kind, you may come here, they have a shop that can help you. There is even a cinema and a fitness center! It is also very children friendly, having always exhibitions of animals or imaginary world's in the free space to look at.

Wokshop Roskilde is a delightful gem for anyone craving authentic Asian cuisine. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by a cozy atmosphere that sets the stage for an enjoyable dining experience. Guests have praised the attentive service from friendly staff members like August and Simon, who ensure your needs are met throughout your meal. The menu may not be extensive, but each dish is crafted with care and bursts with flavor.
We had a really nice dinner here with good food. The Tom Yum soup had a really nice level of spicy and sour flavors. The beef stir fry was also very good, with a strong soy flavour. Noodle were good and had a very nutty taste which we liked. Staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. I would recommend this place and would love to eat here again.

I had order a mango sticky rice and a red Panay with chicken on Wolt. I called in to ask them to not put specific vegetables in my order, which they said they couldn’t. When I received my order more than half of my sticky rice was missing. I paid 95kr for this.

Cozy and very nice restaurant. We were seated immediately at a table. The waitress was nice and she came to our table a few times to see if everything was alright with our food. Everything we ordered arrived fast as well. They have a selection of fresh juices which I would recommend. The menu is not super diverse but everything we tried was very delicious and looked exactly like the photo. I would recommend the place if you want a nice place with asian cuisine for lunch.

Atmosphere - very nice furniture & design of the restaurant, music okay, a bit cramped, if not for nice interior decorations the restaurant would be casual dinner, a very clean table, decorations & wall ornaments not so much, loud acoustics on the bottom floor, no toilets 3.5/5 Staff - helpful, pleasant, but seemingly tired, wait time = 10-15 min, 4/5 Ginger beer -price 40 real prices 15 dkk in Germany, too sweet, but still okay, slightly weird aftertaste, a pleasant smell 2.5/5 Spring rolls - price 75, seemed microwaved out of the refrigerator, nevertheless with elegant taste, small filling, very pleasant sweet sauce, decoration good - 3/5 = overpriced Beef fried noodles - price 159, slightly cold beef, hard vegetables - undercooked, aroma pleasant, taste good, good size 3.5/5 Extra noodles - a bit cold, stuck together, no oil, normal taste 2/5 Soy - extremely salty, possibly aging, (not changing or refrigerating) 1.5/5 Spicy chili sauce - flying goose, classic but good, pleasant spiciness and aroma 4/5 Total - (24/40) = 3/5 Verdict - Worth visiting for decorations but the food is a bit overpriced for what you get. Good size of food apart from starters. Overall a good place to eat but just once. Not worth repeating the visit. Prices for one = DKK = 320 (21tip - 7-8%) USD= 46 EUR= 43

Italian restaurant
The Italian restaurant, Restaurant That's Amore, seems to be receiving positive reviews despite some criticisms. Customers have mentioned that the dough used for their pizzas is either over kneaded or left out for too long, resulting in dry pizzas. The mozzarella used appears to be a cheese melting product rather than authentic mozzarella, and the ham is suspected to be turkey spam instead of real ham. However, the decor and service were reportedly nice.
We had an amazing experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, rich flavors, and perfectly cooked pasta. The service was fast and employees very friendly and helpful. Cozy atmosphere made the whole evening even better. 🍝🇮🇹 Place was really beautiful and clean. Penne Bolognese-perfectly cooked and delicious. Pizza Capo was very good and Tiramisu even better. We left with the smile and full belly. Highly recommend this place!👍

Got stomachache me and my girlfriend after that. Can't recommend the bolognese, unsalted, milky and with no taste and the pasta was supermarket level.
Dimitris M — Google review
We were treated as homeless/drug addict people, even tho we were dressed normally. We got inside, in a totally empty restaurant (they had 0 customers) and they asked us if we had a reservation. We told them we don't have one and they still made us wait in order for them to check and see if they had an empty table (the restaurant was empty) After we waited a bit, a chef/manager came, looked at us and said we can take a sit. After that, my pregnant wife went to the bathroom and she was followed by one of the managers/chefs. He was probably thinking she was going to do drugs in the bathroom or something. Really bad customer treatment. And by the way, no other customers came into the restaurant in the time we were there. The food? was average at best. Sorry but we felt really disappointed for the way we were treated and we expected the food to make up for it but it totally didn't, pasta is way below average. LE after the owner's response: if you consider this review condescending and without substance and you want better communication, give me an e-mail, a phone number for someone we could talk to and we discuss things further, no problem. Also you said it yourself, that even you weren't expecting us to sit and eat, maybe just cause of the way you treated us. And in regards to your experience, we also have been traveling around many countries for a couple of years and we've never been treated this way.
George R — Google review
Excellent for a night out. The menu and its content is perfect - italian and simple. While the atmosphere is perfectly nice for a meal, I doubt I'd want to spend the entire evening here, mostly because of the acoustics - it tends to be a little noisy, when people come and go or speak up.

Pizza restaurant
Viking Pizza Roskilde is a cozy spot offering generous portions of delicious food at affordable prices. While the staff may not speak much English, they are friendly and accommodating. The veggie pizza and loaded potatoes with chicken and shrimp come highly recommended. It's a great alternative to the Viking Ship Museum cafe, just minutes away for tourists looking for a quick bite. Despite potential delays during busy times, it's a good place to enjoy tasty pizzas and satisfying dishes like the club sandwich or pasta.
If you are visiting the Viking museum in roskilde, walk the few extra yards to this place! Huge menu, fair priced, great service, speak English. We ordered the kebab nachos and one order is more than enough for two adults. Also, first place I've been to that has hand sanitizer on the tables!

Pizza, to be absolutely frank, disappointing. The "family" size is huge, though. So, beware of what you are asking for. Service OK, but not special. A small shop with someone on the counter. But we were not offered dishes or cuttlery. Had to eat with our hands. Perhaps its demand is mostly for delivery. Anyway... I had never heard that Vikings made pizza, so... why complain? Sat outside. A cozy spot with a nice view to the park.

Gusto Giusto is a delightful Italian eatery offering delectable cuisine made primarily with organic ingredients. The restaurant also boasts an impressive selection of wines. Despite the absence of one staff member, the remaining team performed exceptionally well, ensuring a memorable dining experience for patrons. Visitors can expect authentic Italian dishes infused with both local and Italian flavors. The owners are described as charming and hospitable individuals, adding to the warm atmosphere of the establishment.
Visiting this place was a complete experience. Make sure to set aside enough time for it—it's worth it. I went with my good friend Sebastian, and the food was delicious. We had plenty of time to enjoy all the courses, drink our wines, and relax without any stress. The wines paired perfectly with the food, complementing each dish beautifully. The staff was attentive to my personal wine preferences and made excellent recommendations. I really appreciated the explanations and fun facts about the wines. The ambiance was very pleasant and quiet, allowing us to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed or stressed by the staff. The service was splendid; they frequently checked in to make sure everything was satisfactory without being intrusive. I would definitely recommend going there with enough time to fully enjoy the experience. P.S. I absolutely love desserts—the panna cotta with passion fruit was an incredible combination. The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, Denmark, offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient and medieval maritime culture. The museum is home to five remarkably well-preserved Viking ships that were excavated at Skuldelev and date back to the 11th century. Visitors can explore original 1,000-year-old Viking ships as well as exact replicas at the museum harbor.
An unforgettable experience for anyone who loves Norse history and mythology! The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde is not just a museum - it’s a journey into the heart of the Viking world. Standing face to face with actual ships that once sailed the seas over a thousand years ago gave me chills. These vessels, recovered from the Roskilde Fjord, are deeply tied to the seafaring spirit of the Norse people. If you're passionate about Nordic mythology, this place is a dream. You can easily imagine these ships as the kind that carried warriors who worshipped Odin, sailed under Thor’s protection, and told tales of Loki’s mischief by the fire. The longships here evoke the legendary drakkars - dragon-headed ships said to sail across Midgard and into mythic battles. The museum also shows how real Viking life blended seamlessly with the mythological world. The sea wasn't just water - it was sacred and feared, ruled by gods and creatures from the sagas. The craftsmanship of the ships reflects this reverence. There are also live demonstrations of traditional boatbuilding using ancient tools, and you can even sail in replica Viking ships yourself - a truly immersive way to feel like part of a saga. Beautifully located on the fjord, this museum is a must-visit. Whether you're a history buff, a mythology lover, or both, this is one of the most inspiring and atmospheric museums in Denmark.

At the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, you’ll see the real Viking history — quite literally in pieces. The remains of five original Viking ships are displayed here, each with its own story of sea voyages, trade, and warfare. There are guided tours and activities running throughout the day, so it’s worth checking the schedule when you arrive. The guide shares the fascinating history behind the five ships that were discovered just a stone’s throw from here, in Roskilde Fjord. For those feeling hands-on, there’s a small workshop where you can try building your own miniature Viking ship. The kids especially loved hammering and sawing away. I had signed up for the sailing tour, where you get to sail on a Viking ship and even help raise the sail as part of the crew. Unfortunately, only four of us showed up out of the ten tickets sold — the rain kept the rest away. Without enough people for the weight balance, the trip had to be cancelled. Safe to say, I was pretty disappointed — it’s not every day you get to sail like a Viking. There’s also a restaurant by the museum. I tried the Viking platter — decent, but nothing to shout about.

Not far from the Copenhagen, about 30 mins train ride. Just a reminder, you have to walk about 30-40 mins from Roskilde Station to the Viking Museum. Arrived at the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum around mid morning. There are two areas: first inside the agreat Hall, you'll see the five ancient Skuldelev ships in somewhat in skeletons forms. You'll feel a quiet awe just looking at their thousand-year-old remains. Second part is the outside where you'll see a beautiful place view with tons of boats. Tons of things to do outside, you can watch boatbuilders meticulously crafting replica ships in the boatyard. You can also sail out on the fjord in one of the reconstructed longships, sadly no more available slots for the day. If you have the budget and you'd like to fully experience, I suggest to pre book before going. Since we went during summer (end of August) you are allowed to climb aboard other replicas at the harbor, even try on Viking clothes. Overall it's a full experience.

One of the most important attractions and museums during the visit to Copenhagen (40minutes by train). Staff are so welcoming with smile. Cinematography short movie in many languages will help a lot to understand the museum. The workshops outside will show you how the V-boats were built. Don’t miss it
Jean Z — Google review
A world-class and unique experience which is a must-visit if you're coming to Copenhagen as it's brilliant and only a 30-minute ride on the train (which is cheap and very frequent). See several recovered Viking long ships, discover about the different types and how they were built and used and then see expert craftspeople making replicas for experimental archaeology - sailing them to see how the Vikings would have used them. You can also become part of a crew in a small longboat close to the centre. And kids can design and make their own boat in wood with hand tools. Free tours in Danish and English by students are good and friendly. The venue hosts special exhibitions downstairs in the main hall. Several places to eat and drink on-site. Medium-size car park. If walking from the town train station, it's a pleasant and mostly flat walk. The shop has lots of Danish culture things to buy as well as stuff related to the Vikings. All staff friendly and helpful.

This museum is an incredible place filled with authentic Viking ships, fascinating artifacts, and tons of interesting facts about the Vikings. Both children and adults will find plenty to explore and enjoy. During my visit, there was a blacksmith workshop where a skilled craftsman demonstrated traditional forging techniques. There was also a shipbuilding area where craftsmen were using hand tools to build seaworthy Viking ships — a truly impressive sight. For kids, there’s a small hands-on workshop where they can build their own miniature ships from scrap wood and test them in a water pool. There’s also a replica of a Viking household, complete with Viking clothing you can try on and a play area for children. The museum also has an excellent restaurant with delicious food and a cozy atmosphere. And best of all — if the weather is good, you can join the crew of a real Viking ship replica and sail out to sea. An unforgettable experience!

I was a bit sceptical at first when i read its about one Viking boat restored. But there are 5 of them, and , whats more they have been fully rebuilt and are available even to step-in at the port next to the museum ! I learnt a lot from the short film in the museum. Go to the boat workshop at the port - they are just building a new boat, using old traditional tools, and you can chat with craftsmen. It was Worth a visit/trip from Copenhagen.

This museum exceeded our expectations! We took the train from Copenhagen, about 30 minutes. It was a beautiful downhill walk (15 minutes) from the Roskilde station, even in a chilly December. There is also a bus from station that will take you to the museum. The entrance fee was very reasonable. Not busy at all on a weekday morning. We did an English speaking tour and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and thorough. You would definitely miss out on a lot of information and details without doing a tour. Tours are included in your admission fee and are in both Danish and English. With the tour, we spent about 3 hours there. Gift shop was very nice and had a large selection of souvenirs. Highly recommend!

(Translated by Google) I just lost 2 different snakes (Mexican kinksnake 12 years old and a corn snake 19 years old) in less than a week a few days after feeding them mice from here. I don't usually buy food from here but when I do I end up with a dead snake (and now two). for approx. a year and a half ago I also lost another grain snog of 18 a few days after buying mice from here. Of course, I cannot concretely say that it is the store's fault and that their frozen fodder mice/rats do something wrong/are bad, but I wanted to write this to possibly warn others as I have now lost too many of my deeply loved snakes after to have fed from here that it did not raise just a little suspicion. Bought various sushi and starters for 648 kr but the deep fried food are over-fried, totally dry and the sushi rice is undercooked; shrimp and fish are not fresh ; when picking up the sushi pieces, they fall apart. So will not ever purchase 10-20% expensive sushi here anymore for honestly bad food. Those are not made by professionals.

The food was delicious and well-made. The seaweed salad was one of the best ones we’ve had. There was a large variety of sushi and it tasted good. The rest was not great. The service was a bit slow, but it was only one guy for the whole restaurant which was full outside. So, except to wait a bit for things especially if you order a lot. We were a large group and we all ordered many things, and most of the things were placed together, and it was hard to figure out what belonged to who.

The cuisine at Nua Mama's Secret is incredibly flavorful and enjoyable. The staff members are extremely pleasant and attentive, with special recognition given to Lada for making the visit a truly memorable occasion. As a Thai exchange student who has been living in Denmark for several months, I can confidently say that this restaurant serves the most authentic Thai food I have encountered thus far. I highly recommend it to others as well. While the taste of the dishes is excellent, some may find them slightly salty.
If you want to eat a good Thai dish unpretentiously (made with Thai hands), this is the place for you. The girl and the guy from the staff are great. I am always full of admiration for the Danish talent in communicating with the English language. As if they had never spoken their hard-to-understand language. So a good five stars here. Let them know that they are appreciated :)

Personally: Food is generally good. The pork Skewers are the best. Spring roll is standard with glass noodles inside. Red curry tofu is great Pad see ew beef was also good Pad ka Paw chicken is a bit of a down side because it looked like a stir fried and saucy with a lot of onion and bell pepper - i was looking forward for it to either be minced pork with egg and plenty of thai basil - no onion strings nor bell pepper. Dessert: banana spring roll with coconut icecream which is overall good (altho the banana tasted over ripe. The service is impeccable, polite staff and chef. Atmosphere is good with some thai decor, but can be noisy when full Price: seems reasonable, a main course includes rice already, so one can eat a decent meal from below 200kr I cant seem to find a booking option on the website, they open at 17:00, I just contacted them via email message, but they have been responsive

Open from May to October, the park offers recreated houses, villages, and dugout canoes. Visitors can enjoy various activities such as canoe boat trips, ceramic workshops, spear throwing, and archery. The Viking Hall is a highlight showcasing ancient halls. With friendly staff and outstanding exhibitions, it's an ideal place for a full day of exploration.
Went to visit here because it's included in the Copenhagen Card attractions! I got lucky with a beautiful day with a beautiful scenery! This place is big enough that I suggest coming here early so you can go see as much as you want so you can also visit the nearby Viking museum. I got here in the afternoon and I didn't really have much time to learn and explore the whole place. I pretty much just went to the highlights to make my visit worth it. I love how you can get into the animal pens and get close to the animals. It's definitely a more family friendly attraction site! If you want to get away from the city for a day, then this is a great place to visit!

This place exceeded our expectations! We especially appreciated how many knowledgeable people were there to explain different aspects of life in the historical period they were representing. Many of the staff and participants wore authentic historical clothing and even spoke in an old-fashioned manner — which was incredibly cool. The whole site is impressive, with plenty of adorable animals and hands-on activities to try. The attention to detail is remarkable! We ended up spending about five hours there. P.S. The museum shop is also fantastic — definitely worth a visit!

We had a fantastic visit to the Viking village in Lejre — a beautiful, authentic place that brings history to life with its reconstructed longhouses, costumed guides, and hands-on activities. My kids loved exploring the Viking crafts and animals, and the whole experience felt both educational and fun. Highly recommended for families and history lovers! If you buy tickets at the gate, it’s best to do so early in the year, as the regular ticket serves as an annual pass allowing entry throughout the season. The area is quite large, so you may not be able to explore everything in a single day.
Amila ( — Google review
It's important to note that this site houses a faithful reconstruction, as faithful as possible, of a Viking village. Obviously, one wouldn't expect to find original wooden structures over 1,000 years old! I personally found the site very interesting and definitely worth a visit!

My family and I absolutely loved visiting here! We only found it by chance- it’s about 45 minutes away from Copenhagen. Everyone who worked there was so kind, welcoming and happy to share their knowledge! Two memories of this adventure stand out most to me- first, I had such an interesting and long conversation with a Cultural Historian who worked in the Viking Hall. She explained history of who the hall would have been used and the intricate symbolism of the architecture. We also discussed the engineering of the building. She was such a pleasure to talk to! My second favorite memory was seeing how meals were made in true medieval fashion. We were invited to watch them extract food from an old fashioned “oven” (see pictures). We watched as they pulled out bread, meats and soup… so cool to see! I highly HIGHLY recommend everyone come here to learn about Danish history.
Yana T — Google review
I really loved it! A lot of activities for kids but also for grownups, a lot of space to walk around and explore and wonderful people to help you discover cool crafts. This is a place where you can easily spend a few days! I would love to return! The great hall looks amazing and there are some table games to learn and try, the pottery offers demonstrations and you can play with a piece of clay and create something yourself, the textile house has a lot of information about how yarn and textiles are produced.... There is so much! I definitely recommend coming, but reserve the entire day because ot is worth it!

Large site, some of the older age exhibits need attention. Some paths confusing on the map, however a great day out with lots of Danish history. Bus timetables and stops need a massive update on Google.

We had such a great journey through time – from the Stone Age, through the Iron Age, to the Viking Age! It’s all presented in such an impressive and immersive way, where everyone gets to be part of the experience. You walk into the houses, see people living as they would have in those times, and witness traditional craftsmanship in action. Everyone is eager to share stories and happily answers any questions you might have. It’s perfect for anyone with a curious mind. To top it all off, the setting is stunning – surrounded by nature, with plenty of space so it never feels too crowded, even in high season.

Both the lunch as well as the dessert was superb and the staff was smiling and service minded. It is also a fun place to observe people as a lot of quirky middle aged people pay the restaurant a visit due to its proximity to the golf course. But come here for the food - who cares about golf right !

Ledreborg Castle, an 18th-century palace, is a hidden gem in Roskilde that offers a perfect spring getaway. The castle is filled with antiques and paintings, and its parkland garden provides outdoor activities for visitors. It's a great place for shopping for gourmet delicacies, clothing, interior decor, and jewelry at reasonable prices. Families can enjoy pony rides and fun activities like watching shepherding dogs while finding excellent spots for picnics.
We went there few days ago, following a very cute path around the castle park. We were very surprised that we were the only tourists, even though it was a weekend in August... but this made our visit even more magical. We only visited the castle from the outside, but it is very well kept and seeing it after the trail through the woods is quite an impact.
Stefano A — Google review
I do not know much history behind this castle but what I do know is that it’s a beautifully maintained private home with huge garden space that is opened to the public to visit but required that we respect it as we visit. We didn’t enter the home but walking/running through the garden to get to the supposed statue of Adam and Eve was a refreshing, quiet walk coupled with fresh air. We arrived almost to the closing time but was able to walk/ran through it fastly (took us 30mins in total to complete) before the gate closed time. There’s also a parking space few mins walk away.

Very beautiful surroundings, gardens and architecture. I only walked around, so i can't say how the castle is inside, but beautiful around.

It is a an alright park however much of the place is private land. It is also difficult to understand the history of slavery here as there is no history plaques or similar. I would not recommend going here - note they charge you 30dkk per person to enter. Take your picture from the golf course site and save yourself the hassle to go in there.
Christian F — Google review
The park of the castle is one of my favorite places to take a walk. It’s so beautiful and quiet and it has a dramatic effect with the castle in the background.
Dennis N — Google review
Beware of old timers they will stop at nothing to eat berries from the bushes. If you try to move them they shout and stiff more black berries in their mouth. It's usually in August and September when the berries are made. But don.t worry old timers are used to be shouted at next to the berry bushes
Bogdan R — Google review
A hidden gem in roskilde. Not many tourists go there so it’s mostly locals. Great garden and there is a written guide on the entrance you can take with you and drop off when you leave. It tells the history of the castle. Beautiful forest for a walk around the mansion.

Leo's Wok Café, a Thai restaurant in Roskilde, offers an array of delectable dishes with a focus on fresh and aromatic ingredients. The menu features 26 dishes and a variety of beverages to choose from. Customers can enjoy their meals at the counter or, weather permitting, at the outdoor seating area. The establishment encourages guests to take their time and savor their dining experience. For families with young children, high chairs are available.
I enjoyed my visit. It’s far, far better than big commercial restaurant chains. Doing the day there are almost no people, so if you value quietness and healthy food it may be worth your visit. I think people tend to arrive later in the whole Musicon area.

We've found that lovely authentic Thai restaurant by chance, and we absolutely loved it. The food is exceptional ( you MUST try the chicken skew starters, with its homemade peanut sauce ), and the service is simply at its best: served with a smile and the love of cooking. RAGNAROCK - Museet for pop, rock og ungdomskultur is a vibrant celebration of music and youth culture that invites visitors to explore the dynamic relationship between these two forces. Spanning an impressive 1,200 m2, the museum features 11 themed exhibits that chronicle the evolution of music from the 1950s onward. As you wander through its engaging displays, you'll uncover fascinating stories about the Roskilde Festival and Denmark's rich rock scene.
Would definitely recommend going - an interesting story about the Roskilde festival, its progress, solists, residents, a good insight into Roskilde's past and the flourishing of the festival. Personally, I'm not interested in rock, but there was more than that here, different rooms, activities, there was an opportunity to sing and listen to a wide variety of music. 👍🏻

A huge museum of pop and rock Danish culture. You have several floors to explore and you can listen to a lot of music inside. The museum itself is hard to find as it is in the middle of the local "creative town".

The place to learn and experience about Danish (rock) music with lots of interactive exhibits, we all and especially the kids loved it. You can sing in a recording studio, you can dance in front of a great video wall like in the ps/switch games, there is a giant turntable you can lie on and listen to music...it is really cool and included in the Copenhagen card.

Absolutely loved this interactive and unique experience.. . Ragnarock is a Museum dedicated to the history and celebration of Danish Rock music, Music festivals, and Youth culture. Whilst staying in Copenhagen, visiting Denmark from the UK, we stumbled on this attraction after purchasing the Copenhagen Card. As a family we enjoy exploring new places so we decided to take a day trip to Roskilde (approx. 25 mins on the train from Copenhagen central). . Ragnarock is approx 20 mins walk from Roskilde station and is situated in a neighborhood called 'Musicon.DK'. Musicon.DK is a purpose built vibrant community for creative businesses and artists. The walk from station is well pathed but there are not many signs directing you to the museum so I would recommend using GPS to guide you if you don't have a map. Once you reach the Music on.DK area you will have no issues finding the Museum as it's a stinking venue that towers over everything else around the area. . On entering the museum straight away you will notice how this place is not only special, it's totally unique. The staff on reception were so welcoming and friendly and immediately explained (in English) how the museum works and the interactive activities available for children to play along with as you travel through the museum. You start the journey through each floor by heading up to the 3rd floor and walking down through each of the different areas. Every single area has interactive parts where you can dance, listen to music, read immersive stories, or produce your own music. All this whilst learning about the rock and youth culture of Denmark. . On completion of the exhibitions there is an excellent cafe to buy home cooked food which was exceptionally good for a museum and very good value for money. There are also plenty of facilities and a shop situated on the ground floor. . One of the quirky experiences is the cloakroom... Here you hang your jacket on the pull system which lifts the jacket above your head and locks it there until you want to collect it. It may sound crazy but it kept my kids occupied.... Ragnarock is such good fun if you get the chance to visit - take it. You won't be disappointed.

Really good, excellent musical history with a Danish twist and not limited to rock, more rock/pop. Currently has a fascinating exhibition about a Beatles fan that sails a bit too close to stalking. Genuinely fascinating take on fandom and when it becomes too much.

The Roskilde Jars, also known as Roskildekrukkerne in Danish, are a set of three enormous glass vases located in front of the train station on the island of Zealand. Created by Danish abstract sculptor Peter Brandes, these 5-meter-tall jars weigh around 24 tons collectively and stand in a shallow pool without water. Two of them are adorned with shades of blue.
The Roskilde Jars are a trio of monumental ceramic vessels located outside the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, Denmark. Created by the Danish artist Peter Brandes in 1998, these jars are not only significant in their sheer size, standing about 5 meters tall, but also in their symbolic connection to Danish history and mythology. The Roskilde Jars serve as both public art and a cultural landmark, bridging past and present while offering a striking visual experience for visitors.

Restaurant
Shawarma Grill-House in Roskilde is a great place for those who enjoy extremely spicy food. While the location is not particularly special, their shawarma and kibbeh are highly praised. The fries were decent, albeit possibly lacking warmth due to delivery. The meat quality is good, although the wrapping could use some improvement as the sauce tends to leak everywhere. Despite similarities to another branch in Copenhagen, Shawarma Grill-House offers its own unique flavors that are still enjoyable.
Tried many times, and I can say this is solid choice if you need a quick and tasty food. We come here often after / before bar, never disappointed. Very quick service
Denys M — Google review
Mixed Experience at Shawarma Grill House Kebab – Roskilde The location of Shawarma Grill House Kebab is convenient and the staff was polite and welcoming, which initially gave a good impression. The interior was clean and the service was relatively quick, which I appreciated. However, the food itself did not live up to expectations, especially considering the price. I ordered the pita menu, which included a pita sandwich, medium Coke, and fries, priced at 149 DKK. Unfortunately, the portion sizes were quite small — the pita was undersized with very little filling, and the meat inside was noticeably dry and lacking in flavor. The dressing tasted more like plain yogurt, without the rich, seasoned taste you typically expect. The fries were also limited in quantity and lacked crispiness or seasoning. Compared to many other kebab places around Roskilde Station that offer more generous portions, better seasoning, and stronger overall value, this meal felt underwhelming. That said, the restaurant has potential. The clean environment, quick service, and central location are definite positives. With some adjustments to portion sizes, pricing, and food quality — particularly ensuring juicier meat and more flavorful sauces — this place could easily stand out in Roskilde’s competitive food scene. Price: ❌ Food: Ok Atmosphere: ✅
Ratish T — Google review
Took extra money for ketchup to the fries. The ketchup I got after paying extra for ketchup was also far to small. The drink I got to the food was just around 0,25 liter, so I had to eat half of the food without anything to drink. Not coming back.

We stayed in 7 different hotels while on a bike tour in Denmark with my daughter. The staff was so nice, and the breakfast was *fantastic*! It was easily the best spread we saw in the whole 2 weeks we were in Denmark. Our favorite part was the pile of oranges and a juicer so you could have fresh squeezed juice if you wanted. This is on top of all the other options. Really enjoyed this hotel.

Good points: Free parking, just enough spots. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. From reception to waitresses and the morning staff. Excellent 👍🏼. Hotel food was also very nice. Burger for dinner and morning buffet. The cleanliness was also very nice. The not so great: The hotel is a little on the old side. Thin walls and not a smart TV. Only an added usb or hdmi connection. The bad. The toilet when flushed was so violent it threw water out over the seat and floor. (I did report this to reception). The heating, even which was on full left the room a little cold at night. As the walls were thin I could hear a party either from another room or the group in the conference room. Overal... It was ok. The staff made it 4 out of 5.

We have stayed in hundreds of hotels big and small 2 star and 5 star. This is a great hotel that does all the basic things well. The positives: friendly and accommodating staff, clean property and room, good wifi, good water pressure in shower and sink, comfortable bed, quiet room, great restaurant and food, located next to a park, secure bicycle storage. The negatives: not located within walking distance to restaurants(but they have a good restaurant). Bottom line we would gladly stay here again.

Good location behind a park middle in Roskilde. Room was quite outdated, e.g. no air conditioning and there was a strange smell (neither bad or good) in the bathroom. Restaurant is really horribly overpriced. Although the quality was good, the pricing was preposterous. Room was clean and spacious (j-suite). Free parking always a big plus and breakfast very good.
