Ecological park
Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, the SentierElsa - Ponte di San Marziale Entrance at Parco Fluviale Alta Val D'Elsa offers an enchanting escape into nature. This 4 km trail meanders alongside the stunning turquoise waters of the Elsa River, surrounded by lush forests that create a picturesque backdrop for your adventure. As you stroll along this well-equipped path, you'll encounter mesmerizing waterfalls and inviting swimming spots perfect for cooling off during warm summer days.
So there are mixed reviews about this place! When you get to the actual swimming spot it’s gorgeous! Once you get to the water, keep walking for a bout 5 minutes to the ACTUAL swimming spot. First spot: families, dogs, picnic area. FURTHER: actual swimming spot you’re seeing photos of. the water is beautiful, we didn’t spot litter around. But keep in mind, this is a WILD swimming spot, rocks, dirt, leaves, so it’s dirty because it’s dirt! The water is cold but perfect temp takes a few minutes to climate! especially good if you’ve got injuries or inflammation after an hour in the water I felt so good!

This place is a must-stop place to visit. The pictures are accurate, the water is that blue/green, with beautiful open water swimming pools nestled between waterfalls. Visited with my husband and children for the day and took a picnic. Yes it was very busy but we found a spot and spent all afternoon there. I would recommend taking wet shoes if you have them but you can still access the pools in bare feet if needed. There are some shallow bits near the top but the rest of the water is deep, so be aware. There is a car park nearby but if you continue down the road you can park outside a local clothing store for free and it just a short walk up the hill to the pools. We had a wonderful day!
Louise E — Google review
A lovely park, a comfortable and well-maintained walking path with pleasant corners by the water. The water is amazingly beautiful. There is parking near the beginning of the trail. It is worth taking something to sit on if you want to rest on the way or have a picnic.
Anat M — Google review
Lovely natural park immersed in nature. Cool and quiet, you are relaxed by the sound of waterfalls and the flowing river. Great for walks, a picnic, if you want to follow the Franchigia Road or of you simply fancy a nice, cool swim. Marvelous! The only negative point is the rubbish that people have left here and there, pity.
Iacopo B — Google review
We stopped at this place around 9am. There was no one so the whole place was for us. The water was cold, but as always, after a bit of swimming it started to feel amazing, cause the water had beaytiful turquoise color. The place is fo free and you can get here from the parking lot. It was around 5 minutes of walking.
Silvia B — Google review
One of the most beautiful places in the world to swim. The water is an unreal shade of blue, crystal clear and refreshing, with a stunning waterfall as the backdrop. Getting there is part of the adventure – a short walk with some stairs and a little climb to slip into the water – but absolutely worth it. A hidden gem that feels magical once you dive in.
Thomas O — Google review
A very pleasant space for a picnic. When I was swimming in the cool water of this river and going downstream, I felt the pleasant feeling of living freely in a forest. If you swim along the river, the shade of the tall trees gives you a pleasant feeling and at the same time you see that in the narrow space on the riverbank, some people are lying down and some are chatting, a boy leaning against a fallen tree trunk reading a book and his girlfriend leaning against the same tree trunk knitting while sitting in a bikini under the sun and the shade of the trees. So it is impossible not to recall the memory of your ancient ancestors who lived in the forest with minimal clothing.
Dariush E — Google review
Good place to hang out, we drove 1 hr to get there and it was worth it. A lot of people and water was cold as expected. Nice swim and clean water.

Diborrato Waterfall

Park
Diborrato Waterfall is a stunning terraced cascade that stands 15 meters tall, offering an exhilarating experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Nestled at the end of the Elsa Trail, this picturesque spot rewards hikers with a refreshing swim in its rocky pool after a scenic 40-minute trek. The vibrant color of the river adds to its charm, making it a delightful place for families to enjoy despite cooler water temperatures.
The colour of the river is amazing. The kids had a blast despite the temperature of the water, they could play hours. We went in high season and it was a bit crowded but you can still have nice pictures and a good swim. It is not the best place for picnic or just laying down because the clothes get dirty and there is a lot of people around. I would not leave the personal affairs unattended. But it is very pleasant for a bath in turns if you go accompanied. Definitely worth seeing if you're in the area.
Óscar R — Google review
Beautiful place for a swim and walk. There is an entrance near the waterfall, or further up at the other end of the Sentierelsa Trail.

Been here everyday on our Tuscan holiday! I’ve already made a review but I have to make another one! Once you walk down the river past the water falls the water is a dream!

Lovely place for a free dip, was very busy but couldn't find a suitable place to enter the water.

Was absolutely beautiful and great way for abroad travels to escape Florence heat. It is really hard to find transportation here, the bus system is a bit confusing but locals will help and it was so fun! Water was a bit chilly but it was beautiful and so blue.

Very pretty waterfalls, you can have a nice swim. Too bad there is a lot of trash around

Outstanding. First we didnt even find it.. then we walked and walked.. met some locals.. followed them.. the waterfall itself can only be spotted if you JUMP & swim! Sooooo worth it! Loved the experience!

The place it's amazing, but without infrastructures to become a perfect spot. Totally unprepared to become a fluvial beach. We liked it, but it was crowded, so the experience wasn't the best. Despite of that we could be able to swim with the kids, although it was very cold waters ...

Hiking Trails
The Sentierelsa Trail is a 4km-long route that follows the stunning turquoise-colored river Elsa. Starting at San Marziale and ending at Ponte di Spugna, the path features bridges, boardwalks, and rest areas. One of its highlights is the 15-meter high Diborrato waterfall cascading into a deep blue lake.
We walked this trail with our child and had a fantastic time! The path is easy enough for kids, and the river crossings on stones and wooden bridges made it feel like a little adventure. The water is crystal clear and cold, which was perfect for a dip on a hot day. The Diborrato Waterfall at the end was a highlight; absolutely beautiful and great for a short swim or picnic. There are no restrooms or shops on the trail, so pack water, snacks, and towels. This is a must-do if you are near Siena or Colle di Val d’Elsa. Fun, safe, and filled with nature. Our whole family loved it!
Oyku E — Google review
Nice, moderate walk along a beautiful river—takes about 45 minutes each way. We parked in the town (Colle di Val d’Elsa) and walked to the trailhead. ‼️‼️‼️ Heads-up: There are three water crossings that can be a bit tricky. We had to take our shoes off each time. Definitely worth it if you’ve got good balance and don’t mind getting a little wet!
Patrik D — Google review
Lovely hike of approximately 5 kilometers (roundtrip) with excellent swimming spots in the streams of water. For an unobstructed view of the waterfall, you need to enter the stream and swim a short distance!
Alexander B — Google review
Hard to find advice few signs abd parking is not ax easy as some other people suggested. Overall a very pretty walk along the valley bed with the river flowing. Can imagine in summer, when it's hot, that this is a very busy place as there are some nice swimming holes. In October there was just a few hikers and dog walkers.
Peta B — Google review
Beautiful trail! Says it’s closed for maintenance but we saw several people there with us. A couple places where the bridges have gotten creative, possibly that’s what it meant? (See pictures) definitely recommend this trail!
Isabel W — Google review
We parked at (paid parking ).. and walked 3 minutes to the small waterfall where we stayed for an hour to relax and swim. We were with two small children (3 years old & 5 months old). We had the baby in the sling. Impossible for a stroller to go through. It was quite crowded and there was a lot of trash around. Not worth it if you have small kids except for maybe a quick stop for a swim.
Elīna — Google review
A clean trek, lots of swimming spots, nice colour of water. Only lacking is toilet facilities.
Kumar S — Google review
Fun hike, the whole thing is manageable in flip flops but some slightly sturdier shoes is nice for the rocky river crossings. I'd avoid the trail if it's raining or has very recently rained, it gets very muddy. Gorgeous area though and plenty of opportunities to swim in the southern end.

Porta Nuova, also known as Porta Volterrana or Porta Salis, is a majestic city gate located in the middle of Colle di Val d'Elsa. Built in 1479 as part of the defensive system for the castle of Colle, it is attributed to Giuliano da San Gallo. The gate gives the impression of being an entrance to a fortress rather than a city when viewed from outside.
Great historical entrance the the old town. Super quite, affordable, and lovely town to visit when in Tuscany.

Tuscan restaurant
L'angolo di Sapia Osteria Wine bar is a Tuscan restaurant with a beautiful outdoor terrace that offers a fantastic view and ample space for children to play. The menu consists of a variety of dishes, with about four options for each course, all of which are flavorful and enjoyable. The restaurant also boasts an indoor dining area that exudes charm. Their Tuscan-inspired cuisine is complemented by attentive and friendly service.
We went there twice in a row. Absolutely lovely place. Unbelievable terrace with breathtaking view. But the best part is the authentic yet modern take on Tuscan food. And believe me they know their stuff about wines ! A perfect evening to be remembered. The team is super friendly and professional as well.

A Hidden Gem in Tuscany! If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Tuscany, *L’Angolo di Sapia* is an absolute must-visit! This small, charming restaurant captured our hearts with its warm atmosphere and incredible food, far surpassing many Michelin-starred spots we've tried. From the moment we stepped in, we were embraced by the cozy ambiance and the friendly staff, who made us feel right at home. The chef, Gabrielle, is a true culinary genius, crafting dishes that celebrate the best of Tuscan cuisine. We indulged in a fantastic meal starting with a local cheese platter that set the tone for the evening with its rich and varied flavors. The *pici* with wild boar was a standout, perfectly cooked and bursting with savory goodness. The beef tartare was another highlight—fresh, delicate, and expertly seasoned. We finished with a panna cotta that was to die for—silky, smooth, and the perfect end to an extraordinary meal. The wine selection was equally impressive, and although I enjoyed a bit too much to remember the name of the exceptional sommelier who guided us, his recommendations were spot-on, enhancing every dish. *L’Angolo di Sapia* offers more than just a meal; it provides an authentic Tuscan experience that you won’t soon forget. With Chef Gabrielle at the helm and a team dedicated to excellence, this place deserves all the praise. We can’t wait to return on our next trip to Tuscany!

If you visit Tuscany, you should definitely try this hidden gem. The food is so delicious, the service is very good, they are so friendly. We are here 2 times and we enjoyed every moment. The sommelier helps you to find the perfect wine for your dish. They have beautiful wines for a very good price.

WOW. If you are looking for quality, amazing service, great wine and a perfect view - this is the place. The pasta was 👌🏼. The meat as well. Bring someone with you so you can share a piece of meat. The cheese plate was also amazing, and not to mention the service. 10/10. I would recommend everyone to visit this beautiful place. The waiters are really good at english as well. Thanks a lot!

Definitely my favorite restaurant in Colle val d'elsa: Great location with a sunset view, friendly staff, honest prices, and the food is a whole new experience that you can't find in many other places around that area. Edit: I came back to Colle val d'elsa after 2 years, and once again Angolo di Sapia didn't disappoint! It's always the first restaurant I go to, and It's so worth it.
Samantha L — Google review
Very tasty restaurant! We had the delicious T-bone steak and homemade pasta! It's a lovely place to sit on the terrace with a wonderful view of the village at sunset. The prices are more than fair for what is on offer. There is a free parking lot outside the city, about a 10-minute walk from the restaurant.

This was the second time at L'angolo di Sapia and again I am amazed at the quality and taste of the proposed dishes. The restaurant has an amazing view, friendly staff and, although on the "expensivish" side the quality/price relation you get is outstanding. Easily one of my favourite restaurants from Italy and beyond.

Portanova Hosteria Enoteca is an incredibly impressive establishment that offers a delightful dining experience. Despite the current travel restrictions, the restaurant was not crowded, allowing for a peaceful atmosphere. The cuisine served here is exceptionally flavorsome, and the staff provided excellent service. Additionally, they have a noteworthy selection of vegetarian dishes available. Conveniently located with nearby parking facilities, this place is best enjoyed just before sunset while sipping on some Aperol.
We had an absolutely incredible dinner! The restaurant is right in the castle with incredible views. Upon entry you are greeted with an amazing entryway and dining areas matched with excellent food. We grabbed several steals and many pastas and we were very very pleased with our experience. Highly recommended!!
Neil N — Google review
I’ve never been so disrespected at a restaurant. What was supposed to be a pleasant evening turned into a humiliating experience. The waiter openly flirted with my husband right in front of me and even offered to share a bottle of wine with him. It was completely inappropriate and made me so uncomfortable that I chose to leave. What made it even worse? There was no apology from the management — not even an acknowledgement of how unprofessional the situation was. We were still expected to pay the full bill. Since my husband paid, he was casually offered to take the bottle of wine home with him, as if that somehow made the situation acceptable. This kind of behaviour from staff — and the total lack of accountability from management — is unacceptable. If you're looking for a respectful, professional dining experience, stay far away from this place.

Great dining experience, yes portions are rather small but priced accordingly. Fabulous homemade pasta, and the duck main course was delicious. Live guitarist on our Saturday night was perfect! Very friendly and helpful waitress as well

Simply amazing! We had a lovely dinner there. The place was quite empty due the current travel restrictions but the food was super delicious. The service was superb. They have quite some vegetarian options too. Easy to find and park near by. Best is to come shortly before sundown and enjoy it with some Aperol. They also have indoor tables and a stunning room for small groups. Highly recommended! I'm sure we'll be back.
Peter V — Google review
Has a nice ambience and a great view, but the food we had was very average. Not bad, but had raw bits of meat for me (not cooked properly) and very little flavouring for both my lamb and my wife's pasta. They provided very stale bread, then charged us 5€ for olive oil which left us with a pretty sour taste, the staff didn't want to hear anything about it, so overall it was ok but won't be returning.
Andrew S — Google review
Beautiful terrace on top of the castle towers. Very delicious and innovative food. Best restaurant on this trip so far.
Kevin Q — Google review
Beautiful view, and a good wine list. Unfortunately the food is not up to the standard we have come to expect in Italy. My pasta had a huge mound of dried leak on it that genuinely resembled hay. Super tough to chew and almost not edible. We got some very dry bread with our pasta, but no olive oil or salt so that was also a bit strange. The view is genuinely great, just dont come here expecting great food.

Restaurant
Ristorante Il Frantoio offers a unique dining experience with creatively tweaked Tuscan dishes and regional wines served under a stone ceiling in an old olive oil cellar. The restaurant's ambiance, set in a small Italian town with medieval charm, adds to the rewarding experience. The chef's use of unique ingredients results in exquisite and delicious dish creations. While the location is great and the menu is interesting, there are areas for improvement such as staff service.
Had dinner here for my birthday. Really appreciated that the staff spoke excellent English and knew exactly what was safe for a pregnant woman. They even adapted the menu for me, which was fantastic. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious.

We booked a table for New Year’s Eve. We were expecting great things as we had read a lot about this restaurant. Sadly it didn’t really deliver. A lot of the food was just not hot enough. Maybe it would have been better if they had offered less courses? Everything tasted good but would have been much better hot.

This was such a memorable meal in beautifully atmospheric surroundings. It's a week later and I'm still thinking about the food (and wine) - the liver pâté with black cherry was a particular highlight, incredibly inventive and so delicious! You can really tell that the chef has a lot care and love for the food. The restaurant itself is also very unique, down in the cellar of the olive oil mill - makes for a very cosy and relaxing environment. Along with the warm and attentive service, I didn't want to leave at the end of the meal! Truly a destination restaurant to seek out if you are in the area.

This place was an outstanding find. We celebrated our anniversary there and both went for the five-meal, which was a great value for the quality of the food. The chef combines unique ingredients to make exquisite but delicious dish creations. The ambiance in a small but typical Italian town with a medieval charm makes the experience all the more rewarding. The server always seemed to put great value in our input as well when it came to wine preferences and other suggestions he could make. We will certainly be visiting this restaurant again someday.

Outstanding Service, very attentive staff overall. We've had a great time and insights into tuscan cuisine. Cold cuts were accompanied by red wine recommendations, the steak was incredibly tender. The ambience on the terrace was lovely. We felt really at peace and were fully focused on enjoying ourselves and life for a good 2.5 hours. Would def spoil myself again, every euro worth spent here.

The pros: very good and attentive service, with staff speaking perfect English. Beautiful setting in an old mill that was used to produce olive oil (hence the name of the restaurant). Very good value for money and interesting wine pairing with local and Sicilian wines. Excellent pasta dishes. The cons : some dishes were not as good and interesting as others (dessert and amuse bouche).

Had an absolutely wonderful meal! The restaurant is in a medieval cave that is so cool! Food is delicious and creative - it was so nice to eat local food but with a modern twist, service is great, and so was the wine!! Definitely a must if in the region!
Jillian M — Google review
Wonderful restaurant which does a lot of things really well but can also improve in some areas. Starting with the positives: great location in the old city centre, I sat outside and it was awesome. Nice vibe. Menu is interesting, definitely not your standard Italian fare. Loved the amuse bouche, the octopus and the highlight of the evening the smoked spaghetti! Best dish I have had in the past week in Italy. Staff was not all up to the standards I expected. Asked for olive oil with the bread and it never appeared. But some staff went out of their way, explaining more details about the dishes and offering extra wine. Biggest disappointment was the filetto di manzo; I expected them to do something interesting like they did with other dishes. Instead it was a thick chunk of beef as opposed to the nice think steak quickly grilled and often served in rocket with balsamico. I had some mashed potatoes and a foam that fell away completely and did not add anything to the dish. This really needs work. Also, if you offer wines by the glass and sell a customer a new glass, explain that it is a different price category all together. It was lovely but you need to communicate this, either through a menu or verbally. Had a great time and will gladly return.

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Palazzo Comunale, Pinacoteca, Torre Grossa - San Gimignano Musei, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Pretorio Palace. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

The Palazzo Comunale, Pinacoteca, and Torre Grossa are must-visit attractions in the city. The Palazzo del Popolo houses the Museo Civico, which features a remarkable collection of artworks dating from the 13th to 17th centuries, including medieval court frescos and masterpieces by renowned artists such as Lippo Memmi and Filippino Lippi.
Very interesting exhibition and the views from the tower are well-worth the climb. It is a bit of a challenge if you are scared of heights like me. The ticket is also valid for the Duomo right next door. Full recommendation.
Espial1348 — Google review
One of the "must try" when in Gimignano, climbing the Torre Grossa will offer the best views over this superb medieval city, but also over the Tuscan fields. It is indeed hard to climb the stairs, especially the few ones at the top, but it is worth it.

Great place to visit when in San Gimignano. We went in when it opened at 10am so it wasn’t busy. They have redone the stairs so it’s quite an easy walk up - if you are tall you will need to duck your head at the end. The views are breathtaking! You then get to descend and walk into a great little museum. Would greatly recommend when visiting San Gimignano.

This city is like a hidden jam of Tuscany. We just looked at the map and randomly decided to come, and you become a cross this amazing museum and the city itself was very beautiful and old however, it wasn’t busy at all not very risky which is nice I would highly recommend to come and check it out if you haven’t.

A great place with a great view of the city. I definitely want to mention the very kind and helpful man at the ticket office. I have poor eyesight and my English isn't very good, but he patiently explained everything! Thank you, this is exactly what helps you develop a wonderful attitude towards the country! The people in Tuscany are incredible!

City Hall
Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Colle di Val d'Elsa is a town that beautifully marries its rich industrial heritage with stunning architecture. The Colle di Val d'Elsa City Hall, housed in the Renieri-Portigiani Palace, stands as a testament to this history. Built in 1575 by architect Bernardino Renieri, who was also an engineer at the French court under Charles IX, this remarkable structure showcases original design elements that reflect its storied past.
(Translated by Google) Good afternoon friends! Visited Colle Alto today! As always, the walk turned out to be good: beautiful antique castle houses, a very original Municipality building. Il Baluardo is a must-visit spot for anyone looking to soak in breathtaking views of the surrounding valley. A modern glass elevator seamlessly connects these areas, allowing visitors to easily transition between them while enjoying the serene atmosphere.
Great view point looking across the new part of the town. There’s a new glass elevator to allow you to gain access between the two, and it strangely fits nicely with the old part of town - oddly it doesn’t seem out of place. We enjoyed watching the world go by for a while, in the peace, quiet and sunshine.

Restaurant
Pomod'oro Gourmet is an excellent restaurant with a breathtaking view from its terrace. The unique and delectable gourmet pizzas, particularly the Michelangelo, are a must-try. The 'Il Parfait' dessert is also incredibly delightful. The establishment exudes a pleasant ambiance and the staff is exceptionally friendly. For those in the vicinity of Colle Di Val d'Elsa, this place should be on your dining list as it comes highly recommended.
A pretty restaurant in the quiet medieval city of Colle di Val d’Elsa. It’s was past lunch time when we stepped in for a pizza. Oh my, the pizza dough is really good! Better than what we had tasted from top restaurants. It’s crisp on the base but so soft and fresh when bite into it. All the personnel are so friendly and attentive. Overall, a delightful experience to dine here.
Al T — Google review
This pizzeria markets themselves as premium pizza, but sadly, even with all of their crazy combinations, they are just average. The arrogant and unfriendly service helped secure my rating of just a three star. The atmosphere seemed really nice and the patio was pleasant, but just average overpriced pizza and poor service make me recommend to try the place next door.
THOMAS D — Google review
Great spot with an astonishing view from the patio. The food was delicious and lived up to the name – gourmet. They were out of greens, and the waitress couldn’t suggest alternatives to the salads, but ChatGPT came to the rescue. We also ended up ordering too much, as we were misinformed about the portion sizes.
Mikhail Y — Google review
It is by pure chance that we ended up at Pomo d’Oro while visiting the lovely old town of Colle di Val d’Elsa. I had previously located a pizza restaurant via a review and had saved the name. When we got there, the place, which was next to Pomo d’Oro, had no pizza on the menu! Turns out the photo in the review was taken at Pomo d’Oro. And it wasn’t a regret to have entered there as we were looking for pizza anyway. And what a pizza! Just delicious! High quality ingredients. Good portions, good service with English speaking staff, which wasn’t always the case in restaurants. I’d visit again if I found myself in the region once more.
Zahi F — Google review
Beautiful view, ruined by the rudest service I’ve ever experienced in Italy! And I love Italians and I speak the language. Despite that, the male waiter (30ish?) —who barely spoke Italian—was shockingly unwelcoming. We simply wanted a drink and a meal, but he first refused us a drink, then insisted we sit at a table we didn’t choose (the restaurant was empty at around 13.30 and >35 degrees) even when we offered to move just two glasses ourselves. His attitude was inflexible and unkind. We left immediately—needless to say, we won’t be back and you shouldn’t either. Move on to Piazza Santa Caterina.
Yiota D — Google review
Ok... If you order a pizza with anchovies you expect more than 4 small once (see picture - and if you can't find them, then that is my point). It should be at least 12.
Thomas K — Google review
There were 5 of us at the dinner, at 20:30 they already didn't have some items from the menu so I had to order something i didn't particularly like and i was served warm beer. We were also surprised to be charged 2,50e, we assume tip, fee per person. Other food my family ordered was good but it wasn't what we wanted.

Dining at this restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the breathtaking view, which created the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening. During sunset the atmosphere feels both elegant and serene. The service was impeccable—attentive without being intrusive. Every member of the staff showed genuine warmth and professionalism, anticipating needs before I even voiced them. It’s rare to encounter such seamless hospitality. As for the food, each dish was a masterpiece. The flavors were vibrant and perfectly balanced, with a clear emphasis on fresh, high-quality ingredients. What impressed me most was the finesse with which everything was presented—not only delicious but also visually stunning, a true feast for both the palate and the eyes. Altogether, this restaurant masterfully combines outstanding cuisine, flawless service, and a remarkable setting. It is a place where fine dining feels effortless, leaving you with lasting memories and a strong desire to return.

I loved the menu here, felt very seasonal and appropriately autumnal. The food was both refined and comforting, which can be a difficult balance sometimes. I had the celeriac puree scarpetta, monkfish with porchetta/almonds and the apple torta - all of which were absolutely delicious! I think the scarpetta was a highlight if I had to pick. Thanks as well to the friendly staff you made me feel very welcome and explained all the dishes.

We tried the meat menu degustation. Food was beautifully presented and delicious, however the accompanying sauces were rather salty and spoiling somewhat the experience. I have mixed feelings about the atmosphere - the venue is ultra modern, very impressive architecture and design yet a bit cold and stern for my taste; I did love the breathtaking vistas of Tuscany we could enjoy all along our meal through the huge glass facade of the building.
Diana R — Google review
If you’ve never eaten at a Michelin-star restaurant—or done so while traveling abroad—Arnolfo can feel both exciting and a little intimidating. My partner and I had lunch here while living for a month in Colle di Val d’Elsa, and it was one of the most memorable food experiences of our lives as it is designed to be. We walked from our Airbnb in Colle Bassa to the restaurant, which sits in a modern building surrounded by olive trees and a nearby highway. (It used to be located closer to Colle Alta, the historic center.) The walk was a bit tricky—there aren’t sidewalks the whole way—but it’s possible to come through Colle Alta instead for an easier route or to drive and park there (but we didn't have a car). When we arrived, we weren’t sure where the entrance was—there’s a path that wraps around the building—but someone quickly greeted us. I was very warm from the walk and never quire cooled down as the restaurant is all inside without an open air space. I wore long pants and a blouse as most women there were dressed in October, but warm nonetheless. The staff had confirmed our reservation several times in advance, and you do need to provide a credit card to hold your booking. They were waiting for us, so it felt nice to be welcomed. We chose the 2 p.m. Thursday lunch service since no evening reservations were available during our stay. We thought lunch might be more affordable, but that wasn’t really the case—it’s still a luxury meal and discounts aren't really a thing. You seem to get the same experience lunch or dinner, which seems fair---only a different view of Colle, which is stunning. Once seated, they offered us water, and throughout our three-hour meal we shared two bottles at €6 each. For wine, we opted for a single glass instead of the €140-per-person wine pairing. My glass was €30, and I made it last the entire meal. We love wine and deeply appreciate their sommelier, but we had the walk back to consider and our budget. We planned for about 500 euro. We each selected one of the menus: I chose the vegetarian menu, and my partner had the contemporary menu. Both were extraordinary—beautifully plated, creative, deeply respectful of ingredients and tradition, and full of flavor. The meal included around 16 small courses and tastings between our menu and chef complements, each one artful and distinct. We were in awe of the care, imagining the preparation and skill in eat plate. We savored every bite and we're grateful we planned and could be in this place at this as time of our lives. We did experience some uncertainty throughout—like whether the bread selection or the cheese cart were included in the fixed-price menu or extra. (We politely declined both, just to avoid any surprises.) Everything is exquisitely presented, and knowing the details up front can help you feel more relaxed and fully enjoy the experience. We know there are people who may say that money shouldn't matter or that we should care if bread is an upcharge, but it is. We scanned the menu from a QR code, so this information may have been in the fine print somewhere, and we also could have asked up front. I was a little embarrassed 😳 . The service was gracious and professional. Multiple staff members attended to us—a sommelier, a lead server, and assistants—and while we weren’t always sure who was responsible for what, they worked seamlessly as a team. Everyone spoke both Italian and English. When it came time to leave, we remembered that in Italy, you have to ask for the check. The staff guided us to the bathrooms (hidden behind a seamless wall door with crisp white towels) and saw us out through the tall woodeb doors, saying warm arrivederci. By the time we stepped outside, the afternoon light over Colle Alta was glowing, and the restaurant looked stunning against the hillside. This was a once-in-a-lifetime meal for us—a teacher and retiree traveling for a year, living one month at a time in new places. It was expensive, yes, but also extraordinary. We’ll remember the art, the care, and the sense of occasion forever.

We had a tasty dinner at this beautiful restaurant! The venue is stunning with a clean open architecture and a lot of (marble) stone elements. We ordered the Discovery Menu and added additionally the “creation of the day” from the regular menu. All courses were delicious and beautifully presented. Unfortunately the choice of cheese left a negative impression on us. Before dessert was served, a cheese trolley came to the table with the introduction that the cheese would be a surprise. This was also the case for us, as it had not been mentioned on any menu beforehand. The individual cheeses were explained to us and at the same time a piece of paper with a list of the individual varieties was placed on the table. This also stated in small letters at the bottom that the cheese was not a free surprise but could be selected for a fee depending on the quantity. Even though the cheese was delicious, we found the way the cheese was upsold on us right at the table somewhat inappropriate and the cost not obvious.

An absolutely amazing dining experience. The service was impeccable, and the food was exceptional and creative. The stemware was one of the highlights of the evening and the architecture is brilliant. We also enjoyed a wonderful tour of the wine cellar.

Truly, one of the most spectacular experiences my husband and I have ever had dining. The attention to detail and the service was impeccable. We will definitely return.

I can’t even begin to describe the excellence of our dining experience we had at Ristorante Arnolfo with Chef Trovato on our last night in San Gimignano. The 2 Michelin star restaurant is stunning, the service impeccable, the food is innovative and creative, flavors are amazing and each course was presented beautifully. Chef came to our table twice while we dined, and as he saw us rise to leave, he came by to shake our hands to thank us for dining at his restaurant. We were honored. Grant Achatz didn’t do that when we dined at his 3 Michelin star Alinea. My husband had the Creations from the Sea tasting menu with wine pairings, and I had the Vegetable Futurism tasting menu with a glass of Italian bubbles and a glass of Italian Sauvignon Blanc. We started with the chef’s choice of amuse bouche. Not just one small taste, but nine delights to amuse our mouths. Then came the bread cart for us to choose what bread we would like to have, followed by four courses in alignment with the tastings we chose. I let out an Audible “Oh” when the cheese cart appeared at our table between dinner and dessert. Then came two desserts, again dependent on the tasting menus we chose. Our dining experience ended with five petit fours, a delightful surprise. Every staff member we encountered was professional, friendly and provided impeccable service. It was one of the most unbelievable dining experiences we’ve had. Si, Chef!

Such a nice place to buy local art. My wife and I travelled from Siena to buy some art for our new house, it was worth it. Living in the USA, I was worried that there would be issues with the shipping but our purchases arrived undamaged and on time. Love the art gallery as well as the owners Francesca and Emanuela, highly recommended.

Ristorante La Venezia is a hidden gem that truly captures the essence of Italian dining. This family-run establishment offers an array of delicious dishes, from mouthwatering vegan options to classic thin-crust pizzas topped with savory sausage and onions. The friendly staff, who speak English, are always eager to assist and ensure you have a delightful experience. With generous portions at budget-friendly prices, it's no wonder this spot is gaining popularity among locals and travelers alike.
We found this family-run restaurant after having been refused by a nearby trattoria. We thoroughly enjoyed our delicious food and the bottle of wine we chose to accompany it was excellent too. The staff were very kind and helpful, we thoroughly recommend it.

Friendly english speaking service, nice terrace and solid dishes (veggie options available). Good price for the portions. Although I asked specifically if the dish was without eggs and I am not sure if the answer was correct.

Does the job but don't expect raving service. Could be such a gem!! Food.was good although portion or gnocchi was a little light! Parmesan cheese in a sachet was a bit odd! Sunday night waitresses are clearly too tired and can not be bothered to do the standard tasks. A touch of misery. Shame, as it could tick mores boxes for a better experience.

Big mistake ! Too hungry and forgot the pictures !!! The fried veggie appetizer made my wife happy (vegan !) and they whipped up a great vegan pasta for her that astonished me… I got myself a pizza da casa and happily munched on my sausage and onions … bliss… it is low budget and amazing food. Do not forget a coffee to close out ;).

If you want to be disappointed they go there! I ordered the egg tagliatelle with rague(the tagliatelle were store bought quality, the rague was missing flavour and it was chewy), prawn risotto ( literally a single tiny prawn, the rice were uncooked) and don’t start me on the tiramisu it was literally a soup!!! The portions were tiny! In Tuscany for a bill of almost 100 euros, you expect things to be done to perfection!! I literally observed Italians ordering tartar and after 1 bite they left the dish and were done with it

Trattoria Bel Mi' Colle is a small but charming restaurant tucked away in an idyllic alley, where four Austrian tourists savored the flavors of Tuscan cuisine. Despite its unassuming appearance, the intimate atmosphere and friendly service left a lasting impression. The staff's exceptional kindness and English-speaking abilities made for a delightful dining experience, with personalized recommendations for dishes, dessert, and wine.
Best meal we’ve had so far on the Via Francigena from Lucca. Delicious anchovy dishes (photos don’t do them justice!), friendly staff and lovely relaxed atmosphere. Filled up with locals for Wednesday lunch, so certainly felt like the place to be.

Good ideas, but execution is lacking. Charming local trattoria, feeling inside it's wonderful, like a warm hug. Buckwheat pasta is a good, traditional/rustic idea and could be used on one dish of a menu, but on too many and you disappear into the cardboardy texture. Ragu di coniglio was lacking in substantial mouth feel and developed flavor. Steak "Al sangue" was crazily undercooked. Saffron gnocchi a bit under seasoned and small portion. Pappardelle ai funghi porcini nicely done and works well with the coarse buckwheat pasta texture. Chocolate ganache wedge was tender and succulent, clean but not exactly with a lot of identity

Being on a car trip in Italy, we wanted to let ourselves be carried away and follow the recommendations of the people we meet. That's how we arrived at this restaurant on the recommendation of the people at the accommodation. Although at first glance the restaurant does not seem very interesting and sophisticated, we really liked the intimate atmosphere. The staff was extremely kind and spoke to us in English (a rare thing in many places in Italy). She gave us recommendations for dishes, dessert and wine. She explained to us what they contain, the mains and why it is worth trying if we want to feel a little of the flavor of Tuscany. And the food was excellent. I tried the beef steak raised in Tuscany, and my wife took the slow cooked beef cheeks. The prices seemed a bit high for a not so touristy area like Florence, but it worth it because we really liked the dishes. We recommend!

We went for lunch and we had one of our best meals in Toscana in this gem of a trattoria. The food was delicious, the wine pairing was top notch and the service was very friendly. Go in, sit down, be curious when reading the menu, and you won't regret it.

Local restaurant outside the historical centre of Colle Val d'Elsa. The offer was quite interesting: typical region ingredients but different recipes.. it was a good surprise and experience! Also the wine offer was good enough. The location and atmosphere are almost the best the owners can do outside and inside the restaurant with the space they have. Only the service was something poor, slow.. they looked tired. I'd recommend it only for the recipes!
Luca V — Google review
Having read the recent reviews and settling on making the trip, we were met with a string of disappointment during our visit. We ordered the Tortelli, Steak and Beans. The service was genuinely existent. We were offered a table outside where we faced a wall, when there were 2 other tables available already set. As we found, neither were actually booked as they seated other walk ins after us. While the food was quick to arrive and was reasonable in taste, the steak was poorly cooked, and still with a lot of gristle. The Tortelli was quite good though. After all this the prices were 'reasonable' had the food and service been better. But in this case, it was quite an expensive meal for something that was not really reflective of the other reviews and ratings. I'll put it down to a tough night for the staff, or something else going on (ie more about locals than visitors). But there were plenty of other options in the township that would be deserving of your visitor dollars. This reads as a tough review, but genuinely felt that it just wasnt the experience we had hoped for a restaurant with such positive reviews.

We came at 1:50pm to the restaurant to get some lunch. It was supposed to be open until 2:30pm. We were told the restaurant is full and they have no table. There was one free table outside but we were told it is reserved. We asked if we can wait until one of the table gets available. We were told we can't. Before we left people from another table started leaving, my partner asked if we can take it - we were also told we cant. It was 40 min before the restaurant was supposed to be closed! They were supposedly waiting for someone who reserved the table. What a terrible experience and awful service. What is the point of having restaurant if you dont want to serve people?

From the beginning to the end: a perfect night out! We had a table at the rooftop-terrace. Very cosy - in the middle of the city centre. The waitresses were very attentive and kind. As for the food: it was simply delicious. The crunchy tuna, the sea bass, the rump: we enjoyed all of it. The restaurant used to be a mill and has a long history. food was amazing! Service great! Prices fair. The building is also really cool, kind of in a cellar ish. We had the Pisi pasta and another pasta with wild boar. Both are very very tasty and special. The salmon tartar was also really good. So were the sea bass! Even the baked potato was good. Highly recommend.

The food was average and the menu quite poor. The gniocetti is deffinately a dish that you need to avoid as it has a repulsing appearance and is completely tasteless. The stuffed ricotta pasta was rather stuffed with an omelette-textured cheese that did not feel nice. Also, if you want to try some overcooked pasta, this is the place! Besides that, the staff was quite abrupt and at the beggining we entered the restaurant no one there, after 5 minutes a waiter exited the restaurant without answering and after another 10 minutes the mettre showed up.

We went here for lunch, located a few minutes from a beautiful waterfall. The staff is very friendly, funny and helpful. A spacious terrace. The food was amazing, also quick service! We ordered different dishes: mussels, pasta with seafood, carpaccio, meat with mushrooms. All of the dishes were absolutely delicious! Good value for your money. We would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Terrible restaurant, so called ‘pizzeria’ but does not sell pizza🤨. The service is embarrassingly bad you will be ignored and you will have to wait ages for your food. Food quality is what is to be expected for the price but do NOT order the fries, €5 for a couple fried pieces of potato.
Keenan W — Google review
The lasagna was decent, though the portion was a bit small. We sat outside, but unfortunately, there was an unpleasant smell from a nearby garbage bin. Upon reviewing the bill at home, we found we had been overcharged by nearly €10.

Super delicious! Fresh pasta and seafood made with love. What more can you ask for? (We had the pasta with tuna, and the pasta with zucchini pesto, shrimp tartare, and burrata. I’m going to have dreams about it).

Waiter was super friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the food was poor. One meal had to be sent back as it was uneatable. They were very apologetic.

Stopped for lunch after hiking the muddy trails. Attentive and friendly proprietors and a great kitchen. Had the vegetable sformato and vegetable camponato along with some cozze (mussels) and linguine con cozze. Accompanied by some very decent house white wine - perfect post hike meal. Will come back and do the muddy hike again just to eat here! Oh, yeah, super cute amaro (bitters) glasses which were frozen and made the Amaro Scilla even more delicious.

Wonderful and super kind staff, amazing sweet treats and coffee. Sadly we had no time to taste the pizza and pasta, but on other guests plates they looked quite appealing. BOCCA Garage is a delightful and sophisticated pizzeria, offering a wide range of wines. The ambiance is warm and tasteful, with multiple rooms and tables both indoors and outdoors within a historic building. Their pizzas are exceptional, boasting a perfect balance of thin crusts and ideal baking time. Additionally, their unique twist on raw food called Sushi Garage showcases local flavors through items like raw sausage combined with soy sauce and herbs.
After a bad experience at a nearby bar, we decided to start over, and my was that a great decision. The view and the atmosfear were gorgeous. The staff is beyond friendly and efficient. The pizzas were delicious, but what makes this a 5/5 was the frozen tiramiso that probably was the tastiest I ever had.

Great pizza/pinsa place ( really really good dough ) with a nice cocktail menu and a great view. Service can be a bit slowish, but still ok since people are very down to earth.
Miguel R — Google review
This was a tricky one... Great reviews online and recommended by our hosts, but overall, quite disappointing. We didn't make a reservation, because we couldn't find any website or means of doing this online. We were seated outside, but in the back of the restaurant area, not on the terrace with the view. Staff seemed to take orders from 3 other tables at the same time as us, with one staff member telling another to do a different table first. We were given an English menu, and ordered two different style pizzas than we had had before. Neither seemed to mention that they were not tomato based which was regrettable - both were a bit dry and lacked suitable seasoning. We didn't partially enjoy either. We ordered the local bottle of white wine, but wouldn't recommend it. I found finishing my pizza difficult due to the cheap cutlery that didn't want to hold it's shape. Really shame. Had much higher expectations.

This is a tiny, cozy place with quick and friendly staff. The food was great, and they have vegetarian, even vegan options too. Compared to our home city (Budapest) the price was really low, we were surprised about this. Thanks to the staff for their kindness, we felt welcomed, and the cocktails were fantastic too. 🥰

The food looked great on the plate but taste-wise it was missing the "waauw" effect. The rolled tuile was chewy, the tartar very roughly cut and therefore unpleasant to eat. We ordered potatoes as a side with our pork-cheek but after the meat was on the table for several minutes, we were told they were finished. After we both finished our main course, the waiter presented potatoes from another table that did not wanted them........ The tirami-chou is original but is also missing flavour, and one piece was practically empty inside....maybe the chef smokes and his tastbuts are blocked. We have had a chef with the same issue years ago.....

Very nice restaurant in a beautiful setting. Great food, service and music. We had 3 dishes - Bottoni with Orange Duck, Gnudi with Ricotta and Spinach in sage and Truffle Sauce and Gnocchi in tomato and Basil Sauce and Ricotta - all yummy!!!! The only downside is the location, as it’s a rather long walk from the free parking lot outside the Centro Storico and back. If you plan on visiting the Centro Storico anyway (which you should, as it’s beautiful), do yourselves a favor and don’t skip this restaurant!

Would not recommend. Food did not seem fresh. VERY salty. Small portions. The ravioli dough was very thick. The carbonara did not at all taste like real carbonara. Poor service even though we were the only ones in the restaurant. Atmosphere was the only thing that was nice with pretty decor.

Guests rave about the warm hospitality provided by attentive staff like Mario and Lorenzo, who are eager to share their knowledge about the dishes and local history. The ambiance at Il Castelletto is cozy and intimate, adorned with charming decor that enhances your dining experience.
We had dinner last night - the sweet waiter Mario was so welcoming and so knowledgeable about the ingredients, the wine and the dishes. The food here is special - creative and delicious riffs on traditional Tuscan food we've been enjoying all over the region. The artichoke/cauliflower flan with sardine sauce was one of the best things I've tasted in a long time. My pici a l'aglione with gotto (boiled then cooked pork cheek) was fantastic. The tiramisu was steamed, and one of the best I've had. Even the cantuccini with vin santo - a selection of chocolate, almond and saffron with pistacchio - were something special. Highly recommend this place. It was almost empty on this late October night. Go now, or come when it's warmer and sit outside overlooking the ancient walls of Colle Val d'Elsa!

Special thanks to Mario (waiter), good service, timing, and good attention to the needs of the customer. Food is good, tasty, specially steak. Pasta also delicious. The atmosphere is good, but there was a table of 11 Belgian people who were very loud, we couldn’t hear each other at our table, and they went quiet when the food arrived to the table.

We had dinner here following the reviews on Google and The Fork and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is very cozy and intimate, with nice decor details. The staff was friendly and the service fast enough. The food was well prepared, with good presentation. You have to keep in mind that you have to order side dishes too as most of the options do not include it. We ordered the Pork Capocollo (which was very tasty), Peposo Alla Fiorentina, roast potatoes and verdure. It was a very lovely dinner, we recommend it.

We cannot thank you enough for hosting such a beautiful evening at your restaurant during our honeymoon. It was the most perfect setting for our wedding dinner and the whole family absolutely loved it. The food was amazing (the steak and tiramisu especially were crowd favourites), the wine was delicious, and the restaurant itself was spotless and full of thoughtful details – from the flowers on the table to the menu cards. A very special thank you to Lorenzo, who looked after us so brilliantly on the evening. He was attentive, kind and shared about the interesting history of the building and Colle di Val D’Elsa. He is an excellent asset to your team and you should be very proud. We all left feeling so happy and will always remember this as one of the highlights of our honeymoon and a wonderful new memory for our family. We very much hope to return one day, perhaps for our anniversary, to relive such a wonderful experience.

Great food. Not to sald perfect tasting. People will go for the place on top of the wall but the food is better here. Staf is good nice and welcoming. We always rate the tiramisu and after ordering one we need to order a second. That good 9,5 out of 10 for tiramisu! The cookie is not needed for a great tiramisu.
Sjoerd W — Google review
We ordered the grilled beef, risotto with pumpkin which were those orange dots on top, dessert sponge cake with tangy and decadently sweet citrus sauce, spritz and hugo for drink. The food were well prepared, but unfortunately all seasoned above my salt-tolerance level. Not becoming a fan of the popular Spritz and quite enjoying my Hugo.

Nestled in a charming locale, Pizzeria Ristorante Enoteca Le Grazie is the perfect blend of a traditional restaurant and pizzeria, offering an extensive menu that caters to families. It's a delightful spot where kids can indulge in their favorite pizzas while parents savor classic Italian dishes. The ambiance is casual and cheerful, making it an inviting place for all ages.
This is a charming off-the -beaten path gem. We discovered Le Grazie by chance and will drive the 90 minutes from our home in Sarteano again soon. We ordered two pasta dishes: the ravioli with scorpion fish in a lemon butter sage sauce was subtle and delicious. It was a smaller serving in contrast to our appetite but worth the experience. However the fusili with polpa and foie gras was LIFE CHANGING. One of two Italian meals that I may never forget. I cannot imagine the genius that put this combination together, but it is to be celebrated. If it sounds interesting, run to try it. If it sounds strange drive fast to try it. If you can't imagine trying it, GROW UP. I rarely photograph restaurant meals though I know photos are appreciated. It wasn't until we'd eaten half the food that we realized we MUST take pictures, though I know they cannot do this meal justice.

We were quite clearly the only non locals in this restaurant, stopped by for a meal after walking Via Francigena. First red flag was when my friend got his pizza and nothing arrived on my side 😄 then I decided to wait and not question this kind of approach of serving food. After 15 min I started to be nervous. During all this time they even didn’t explain the wait. It takes only a second just to inform… but no. I happily watched how my friend finished his pizza which was quite good for electric oven pizza. Then, I made up my mind to depart this place. Second red flag was that seeing that something is wrong they even didn’t try to fix the situation. Just some ridiculous attempts to justify their fault. Clearly no notion of hospitality. Sometimes good food is not enough. I would like to warn other weary travellers on the way of Via Francigena. p.s. and don’t tell me that it was very busy, there was tons of waiters running around. Disappointing organisation and bad management. Edit: by the way they treat negative review you can also see their attitude :) hey! step down to the earth and learn some manners and go to hospitality school maybe? :) And if pizza was from wooden oven - then pizza guy for sure needs to be changed :D You are working in service for crying out loud :) Italy is not a Roman Empire anymore :) just be simpler and shovel your pride to your background.

The first courses were delicious and plentiful, the tripe melted in my mouth and I was sorry when it ran out, the veal with tuna sauce was wonderful and the pork tart was also good and succulent. The side dishes very good. All dishes are plentiful. Service carried out by a lady of Romanian origin, impeccable. Only note: the revisited tagliatella all'amatriciana that you see in the photo, very good but didn't have much to do with the amatriciana, even if revisited. It was a tagliatelle with meat sauce with two small pieces of bacon/guanciale. I will definitely go back. I contorni molto buoni.

(Translated by Google) Living in Pietrasanta (LU), where restaurants are often reserved for tourists due to excessively high prices, finding yourself in a quiet restaurant, where you eat really well (Tuscan food) and spend very little with a truly excellent quality-price ratio, is almost unbelievable. Absolutely recommended. Excellent food, attentive, helpful staff and fast times. There were 4 of us and we were all satisfied. Assolutamente consigliato. Cibi ottimi, personale attento, disponibile e tempi veloci. Eravamo in 4 e siamo tutti rimasti soddisfatti.

The menu is very varied and if you pay attention, above the cash register, there is the pennant of the Academy of Italian Cuisine, a recognition that attests to the quality. Provate

Even though it is a fixed menu, you can choose between 5/6 first courses and as many second courses and side dishes. Well cooked food from the old Tuscan tradition including Ossobuco and Florentine Tripe. Precise and friendly service, excellent value for money, recommended. (Original) Ho pranzato ieri 4 persone menù fisso a soli 18 euro a testa compreso acqua vino e caffe. Pur trattandosi di menù fisso puoi segliere tra 5/6 primi e altrettanti secondi e contorni. Cibo ben cucinato della vecchia tradizione Toscana compreso Ossobuco eTrippa alla Fiorentina. Servizio preciso e cordiale, ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo, consigliato.
