Haven Haggerston Castle Holiday Park is a picturesque caravan park located on the highest cliffs in Northumberland, offering stunning views of the North Sea. Visitors can access two beautiful white sand beaches via steep steps and explore rock pools during low tide. The park features various amenities including a bowling green, sports court, and entertainment options for families. Accommodation options include well-maintained caravans with modern furnishings and cooking facilities.
When we arrived we were told key was in the caravan, it was not. Thankfully after going to reception this was sorted instantly. The caravans are lovely and bigger than you'd think. The staff were lovely they always left you with a smile on your face. Overall we've had a brilliant week staying here and look forward to coming back

Absolutely brilliant family holiday in August. Beautiful site at a great price! 4 nights in a silver caravan. Spotless accommodation. Extremely comfortable. Our very first Haven holiday and we loved it. The entertainment was brilliant in the Live Lounge. Very hard working staff. Downside was the very serious Bingo where children weren't allowed to speak. Was extremely hot in the Live Lounge! Spoke to the security guard who said the air con didn't work which was disappointing. As an EV driver very disappointed with the car charging facility. 4 spaces on offer but sadly people with non EV's used them to park in. Only 2 of the 4 spaces were marked up as EV charging only which people ignored and parked there anyway. Overall though the holiday was fantastic! We've booked to go again next year for another 4 nights. Cannot recommend highly enough! A++++

So nearly a 5 ⭐ holiday. On arrival our caravan was very spacious and well equipped. Warm and easy to work everything We were in the area called castle lakes. Quiet and quite secluded as only one road in and out so no through traffic. Entertainment was ok . Facilities for grandson were good. Swimming. Soft play and of course the the arcades. The only reason I knocked of a star was our pet dog. This is not a pet friendly site. Our wee dig was not allowed into any parts of the venue. Haven advertising per friendly caravans on a non pet friendly site is very underhanded. If I had known this we would not have visited Haggerston. Unfortunately because of this we won't be returning.
John S — Google review
The caravan itself was lovely and situated lakeside making for a lovely view out of the window. We found the distance from the main building to be a pain though especially given the ridiculously small car park and overflow compared to the amount of caravans on site. The size of the main building and facilities was also disappointing and any enjoyment was quickly soured by feeling overwhelmed with claustrophobia and frustration at not being able to make use of entertainment passes due to how few seats and tables were in the live lounge. The addition of a Wetherspoons on site was a bonus and prices extremely reasonable but again, you were lucky to get a table due to overcrowding and lack of booking facilities. Don't be excited to see the EV chargers either, the spaces were filled with non EV vehicles meaning we were unable to charge our vehicle when needed.
Amy S — Google review
We have had an absolutely awesome holidays. Caravan was clean and very spacious for a family of 4. Lots of activities for kids and adults. Very friendly staff and plenty of restaurants for you to choose from. Great options for delivering food into your caravan. Caravan had everything we needed to cook some simple meals throughout the day. Overall, we will definitely be back soon 😉
Magdalena Ż — Google review
Home today from a good family weekend away 8 adults two caravans . Caravans were well stocked clean and tidy . The park is huge and we were 25 minutes walk from caravan to entertainment it was a struggle as my husband and mother in law are both wheelchair users we didn't state this on booking but didn't realise the size of the camp also pitch black , lighting is atrocious at night even our torches weren't bright enough and signposting was shocking we have been to haven camps and we did enjoy our weekend and all staff were lovely and very helpful on Sunday wetherspoons had no choclate sauce for pudding no smirnoff vodka and they ran out of riddles beer and sports bar far too small no tables and disabled facilities through a corridor all in all we enjoyed the holiday but dont think we'll be back to haggerston.
Angela D — Google review
Excellent facilities for the kids. The entertainment venues can be busy and difficult to getting seating during school holidays. You will need to stake out your seats but that means someone needs to go early. Golf course is great condition and excellent for a round with kids. Its not too challenging with some nice holes over water.
Kenny S — Google review
I booked haggerston in our tourer because it said it was dog friendly. Absolutely far from it. There is no where inside that you can go with dog so unable to eat our or have a drink unless sat outside and no where walkable to go. Guess it will now be same for all haven sites as they are all now weatherspooons bars. Why,?. It certainly will put alot of people off. Shower facilities are very old and dirty only one block had heating on. Very disappointing

Nestled in the heart of North Berwick, Foxtons Winebar & Restaurant is a chic dining destination that perfectly captures the essence of modern British cuisine. With a menu that evolves with the seasons, guests can indulge in an array of dishes featuring locally sourced seafood, succulent steaks, and hearty burgers. For those seeking plant-based options, Foxtons also offers a delightful selection of vegan and vegetarian meals. The vibrant atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for both casual gatherings and special occasions.
Really pleasant and accommodating, booked late in the evening with short notice but staff had a lovely window table ready with a blanket and water bowl for the dog. Delicious seafood platter and burger, pleasant service and good atmosphere. Thank you
Mica S — Google review
We were advised to try Foxtons by the owners of the guesthouse we were staying in and really enjoyed our visit. We had two starters, the pate and the black pudding with poached egg. Fabulous portions and delightfully presented. Our mains were Fillet Steak and the Traitors burger, and once again, both were well cooked and presented. The portions were more than enough, and the member of staff who attended to us was pleasant, friendly, and attentive. Lovely little spot!
Paul B — Google review
Very disappointed after visiting here. Ordered Venison pie. The pie itself was okay however a little dry inside. Although, it was packed with meat which was quite tender. However, the accompanying veg was shocking. It had all quite clearly been microwaved and had dried out. The mash was almost inedible it was that dry and starchy. Asked for a little bit of gravy to moisten everything up a little in order to be able to swallow it. I was brought out a small jug of hot water with gravy granules mixed into it all of which had not fully dissolved. I was charged an extra £3 for the pleasure. We would definitely not return.
Chris B — Google review
Good value and a decent menu, including vegan options. Quick service. Good option for dinner in Berwick.
Michael C — Google review
Good quality food at reasonable prices. Large seating area, so booking may not be necessary. Varied menu.
Phoenixpooh — Google review
Lovely place. Been here twice and it's great for dietary requirements. The food is delicious. The outside seating is in the sun over lunch. What more could you want. The vegan burger was better than McDonald's mcplant according to my son and that has to be the highest praise from a teenager. He loved the burger. It actually nearly beat him and that's also I heard of as he is always hungry. Definitely want to come back.

If you’re visiting Berwick-upon-Tweed, I highly recommend a stop at Foxtons Wine Bar and Grill. The food was truly delightful, and the atmosphere was welcoming. I opted for the famous "Traitor Gate" burger, and it was exceptional. The combination of quality beef patties invaded by Scottish haggis, served with excellent fries and a rich peppercorn sauce, was incredibly satisfying. It’s a genius take on a classic and a great nod to the border location! Everything was cooked perfectly, and the portion was generous. A top-tier experience—I would absolutely recommend this dish and the restaurant overall.
Dazneyland — Google review
Great place to eat if staying in Berwick. We had fish sharing platter which was delicious. Squid rings, whitebait, shrimps, smoked salmon and smoked haddock pate with lots of warm bread and butter and a side of chips. Atmosphere was great although lighting was a little dim in some areas. Overall lovely experience and well worth a visit

Berwick Boat Trips

If you're looking for a delightful way to explore the stunning scenery around Berwick-Upon-Tweed, look no further than Berwick Boat Trips. Departing from the quayside, just a short stroll from Oil Mill Lane holiday cottage, these daily excursions offer an array of options to suit every adventurer's taste.
We booked an evening Seafari trip (I read that this is the best time of day to see dolphins if they are in the area), and we were not disappointed. We were entertained for over an hour with the dolphins jumping in and out of the water, racing the boat right next to the hull. There were lots of baby ones too. It was amazing. The captain was great, explaining all the seabirds, seals and dolphin activity, and making sure we had a great experience. The sun on the sea was beautiful too as we went back to Berwick. Big thank-you. It made our day, and our trip to Northumberland.
Janet M — Google review
I’ve been in this a few times now in various states of weather. With friends, on my own and with my ferret. It’s always informative and original so never gets boring. It’s relaxing and exciting. The captain of the boat is good at his job, welcoming and well educated on the locale. I live local so will def be out there again. Thank you so much x
Joy M — Google review
Great time with the family . A pod of dolphins were all round the boat making the trip extra special. The boat was very clean and the staff were great. It was a hour boat trip but as soon as the dolphins turned up I think we were out longer. I lost track of time 😊. The experienced captain knew where they were and what to do so that we could get to see them for as long as we could. Very knowledgeable info given during the trip via the captain’s mic throughout. Brilliant I would highly recommend. Absolute bargain.
Jollie J — Google review
We booked the safari tour and it didn't disappoint. We saw seals ,lots of birds , including my favourite the puffins and then we saw the dolphins which got so close and played around the boat for ages. Staff were great and their knowledge was amazing.
Lynn A — Google review
Really enjoyed out boat trip. I wish you could hear the captain speak a bit clearer and more commentary on where we were. Unfortunately no dolphins. We booked the sea safari which was 2 hours and it got cancelled due to the weather. We rebooked for later but we didnt get the sea safari just the 1 hour slot and was £75 for 5 people. I thought that was very reasonable. Great boat. Great knowledge from what I could hear. We loved it
Ashleigh B — Google review
We did the estuary trip, really enjoyed ourselves, saw lots of seals. Really great guide, great views of the cliffs. Captain was determined to find dolphins as there had been reports of them earlier in the day. Unluckily we didn't see any, but the trip was still well worth it and we felt it was good value for money.
Martin W — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed our estuary boat tour! We were on our first family holiday with our 6-month-old, staying at the local Haven site. The tour lasted about an hour and there was plenty to see, including birds and seals. Our little one loved taking it all in—and she slept very well afterwards!
Jamie I — Google review
I thoroughly recommend taking a trip with Berwick Boat Trips. My adult daughter and I booked in advance for the one hour journey upstream and then out into the estuary where we saw several seals in the water. Visibility was limited by a sea haar, but we could see the bridges, the banks and the seals when we grew close to them. It was easy to board the Border Belle. One man came on in a wheelchair, so no worries for the less mobile. The commentator was knowledgeable and clear and his staff were efficient. The online booking service was friendly and personal with a fast response to questions.

Nestled in the charming town of Spittal, near Berwick upon Tweed, Northern Edge Coffee has been delighting coffee enthusiasts since its inception in 2015. This family-run roastery draws inspiration from the rich history and stunning landscapes of the area, crafting a unique selection of coffees that pay homage to local heritage. With an inviting atmosphere featuring rustic decor and both indoor and outdoor seating options, it’s an ideal spot for any weather.
Northern Edge Coffee is a great cafe serving a quality range of coffees and wider refreshments all within a very well designed and very cool setting. The design of the cafe is superb and the staff are professional and helpful. You even get the chance to take a photo with a zebra... Which isn't something every coffee shop offers. Find yourself in Berwick upon Tweed then I recommend seeking out this place.
Dr S — Google review
A brilliant coffee shop, with a lovely atmosphere. The cakes are tasty and the coffee is good. It’s also one of the rare places in the area that seems to be open after 3pm. The decor is fab here too, quirky but very comfortable. There’s loads of seating - downstairs and upstairs with some outside seating too. It’s also dog friendly. I’d definitely recommend coming for a visit if you’re in the area.
Heather M — Google review
Cosy little coffee shop with a good menu. Great atmosphere and decor make it an ideal stopping point. Although disappointed that although they roast their own beans, you don't have a choice in your coffee. They only offer one type of bean for your coffee.
Simon F — Google review
Surely great place to stop in for coffee. It was snow there when i visit and looking for cuppa coffee. Just found it when running to high street. Great service and good staff. Thats the only reason i like to go local places not the chain ones. The coffee was fantastic and lovely cosy atmosphere. Definitely recommend happily.
Win T — Google review
Lovely place to stop if you're walking around the wall or after you've been to the Berwick lighthouse. Nice coffees and sausage rolls.
Dan — Google review
It's one of the coolest coffee shops I've ever been in. Love how you can see where they actually make their own coffee. The overall look of the place is great. Quirky features. Comfortable chairs. All the history and character of the building are still intact. It's good when people who use a space respect its history. The coffee itself was very nice. It was smooth and fragrant. Not bitter at all. I always order my coffee black, so if it's not good, it's easy to tell. This was definitely some top quality stuff. The chocolate brownie I had was lovely, too. Perfectly cooked with a soft gooey centre. If I lived in Berwick, this would be my regular. Unfortunately, I don't, but when I'm down at my caravan, this will be where I go.
Ryan B — Google review
Nice coffee, but not warm enough. Average cakes, less than average sandwiches. Service and food has gone downhill. Used to love this place but now feel it's not worth the money.
Jacqueline M — Google review
I went to this cafe late afternoon thinking it was still open as someone was sitting outside in the sunny courtyard , to use the loo primarily. But it was shut ! & then she turned out to be a really kind lovely person who opened up specially for me to use the large georgeous and clean bathroom !!! It also seemed a very lovely cafe inside with space and I was very sad it was actually closed ..... it would be a nice safe place to sit outside too... Next time I am in Berwick I will go back and eat ! and report back on the food ..... I will definitely support this small woman-run business because she was just INSTANTLY so kind WITHOUT my asking !

Great little boozer with a fantastic selection of cask ales & various cans of specialty beers & ciders. The game pie is absolutely delicious. Dog friendly outside in the covered yard. Lady behind the bar was very helpful getting me a low alcohol beer.

Just a lovely quirky micropub. I have always found to have a good selection of ales and a dark one on tap. By it's nature seating is limited but there's external seating under rain covers with heating for colder times.
Shaun W — Google review
Excellent pint of 5 points brewery’s Railway Porter. Had a couple to be honest. Good selection of keg & 3 decent cask ales . Some good fridge options as well . Nice little micro pub with a large outdoor seating area.
Davros T — Google review
Lovely place. Micro ... but certainly not tiny. Very friendly especially for dogs, when we arrived with our two there were two and within five minutes we had about ten sitting around us. We love this but not if you don't like or are scared of dogs. Good draft beers on, personally I was a little bit sad that they were all from Manchester today as I was hoping for something from Northumberland or Scotland but I can't dock points for my personal wish list. Also a good selection of cans and bottles available in the fridge. Definitely worth a visit if you are anywhere nearby ... I'm sure we will be back in very shortly. Edit: came back in three more times this week as this place is such a fine establishment. Had several cask and keg ales and then a can which was my 500th new beer logged this year. Really friendly staff and clients. An absolute gem of a find. If you are in around Berwick-upon-Tweed and like a real ale then this is an absolute must visit (second only to Bear Claw Brewery in Spittal).

We were lucky to have this great little bar recommended to us as it’s brilliant! Some amazing beers and a lovely atmosphere.

Good choice of four real ales, craft keg and other craft beer in tins and bottles. Good choice of snacks, pork pies, game pie and spinach and feta pastry rolls
Garry M — Google review
Loved this place! What a great find! GREAT selection of beers and cider and they serve a nice white wine! Fabulous choice of snacks too!! We loved sitting out, whiling away an hour or two on our hols. Lovely girls behind the bar too!!
Esther L — Google review
This tiny pub goes from strength to strength. A recent pint there was one of the best I've had all year. There is an ever-changing selection of cask ales which are well kept and invariably interesting. That means I have never got on to their wide range of beers and ciders in cans. Worth a visit if you are in Berwick – worth going to Berwick just to visit!

This is a lovely place, dine in or take out, we’ve done both. The prices are moderate and the taste is delicious. We do dine as a family with Coeliacs, gluten free, dairy free and they’ve been able to accommodate. It’s always been a consistently good meal at Mavi’s.

What a brilliant place this is! We received a very warm welcome and enjoyed friendly, efficient service throughout. The atmosphere was great, with a real buzz and the food was absolutely amazing. Couldn’t recommend this enough.
Tony B — Google review
Very nice, clean tasty authentic Turkish restaurant. All of our meals were lovely, served promptly. Not the cheapest Turkish Restaurant but good ingredients and plentiful. A standard bottle of wine was reasonable value at £20. Overall a very fair price. Worth noting the doors lead straight into a couple of the seats and it gets stuffy meaning the doors are opened periodically to let in air. If you are susceptible to cold it might be worth avoiding those seats. It gets very busy and seating is cosy. Perhaps not the place to share intimate news, but a nice bubbly atmosphere overall. Very clean and tidy place.

Great authentic Turkish food. Very accommodating. We rang to book a table on a very busy evening and they made room for us despite the busy and almost full booking. The service was excellent and the food was amazing.

We asked a taxi driver which was the best place to eat and she immediately said MAVI. We didn't eat anywhere else in Berwick so can't compare but we suspect she's not wrong. Friendly, cosy little place and really tasty food. Good value too. Drop into The Curfew micropub virtually next door for a drink before or after.

Just what we needed for lunch (as well as a take-out a few days ago). The beetroot based salad was delicious, but the hummus and lamb cubes were the best we've had. The Turkish wine (which I can't remember the name of) was the perfect accompaniment. We're coming here again for certain!

What a great night, we popped in here after the waiter at limoncello recommended. We enjoyed a few drinks. My friends and I had great laugh when they bring out the big red button when you buy a drink to generate 1. If you get 10% off 2. If you get it for free 3. You have to pay. Well we got 10% off then the next we got a free round, what a great laugh. Staff were so friendly hi fives all round when we got our free round. Simple customer service bonus. Keep up the good work. The only reason not five stars is the toilet just me being picky I think. 👊

My wife and I stopped and ate here today on our way to Whitby. First off, the food was AMAZING, as was the service. I wished we lived closer so we could eat there more often. But seeing as we live in the states...that makes stopping here more often a bit of a challenge BUT IT IS WORTH THE TRIP. Impressive food, service and atmosphere.

Lovely cafe staff extremely friendly and accommodating. The food look amazing that was coming out we opted for cakes and scones , the scones were warm and very light absolutely delicious would 100% recommend

Lovely little place which served great coffee and some lovely home cooked food. The quiche was exceptional, lots of flavour with the egg having a light taste and delicate pastry base. Nothing like your typical bland, soggy mass produced catering variety. 11 or of 10 in my wife's opinion. There was a selection of cakes available which were clearly not bought in. The ones we sampled were a cut above. The staff were great and very congenial. A little cramped but well with a visit for a "light bite".

The flour and baking powder used in the scone have an issue; there’s a raw flour taste in the mouth after eating.

Called in for coffee and cake. We were only in town to break our journey. Staff were very friendly. The food was really good, the drinks were very nice. Set in a nice location slightly detached from the main town. Has a car park next to it (not owned by this business). Right next to the waterfront. Not a big place, but it's definitely a good place to go.

Popped in for breakfast, trying to find a good gluten free place to eat and we weren't disappointed, gluten free sausages and bread. My daughter said the gluten and dairy free lemon drizzle cake was to die for. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely visit again if in the area.

Just a drop by for coffee and a cake. The welcome was warm and the coffee excellent. The ginger cake we selected was rich, treacle infused and beautifully strong in ginger, topped with a butter icing and ginger 'bits'.

For a captive market and not many visitors this was a nice place to get some Lakes ice cream and coffee. A friendly place where dogs were not allowed inside, which is a nice relaxing change.

Italian restaurant
Limoncello is a stylish and inviting restaurant, boasting an attractive interior with exposed-brick walls and the option to dine outdoors. With a focus on Italian cuisine, they offer a tempting 3-course lunch for just 6.95 from Monday to Saturday. The food is delectable, and patrons can enjoy their meals in the warm sun on the terrace, which creates a friendly ambiance. Even dogs are welcome here, receiving plenty of attention from staff and adding to the pleasant atmosphere.
Beautiful place, friendly staff and good food at very reasonable prices! Just be mindful, at the time we dined it was cash only but there is a cashpoint over the road

This is a difficult one to review. Called in on a Wednesday evening and it was busy and we got seated OK, albeit with no mention the kitchen will be closing soon. This is the second time we’ve encountered an Italian restaurant not run by Italians, which makes it feel a little unauthentic, but we overlooked this. We ordered antipasto expecting a selection of meat, cheese and bread but received prawn cocktail, chicken wings, bruschetta and pate, all actually quite nice but odd. The pasta and pizza came quickly after as the kitchen was closing. Although apologetic we should have been warned, and the bill arrived shortly after with no offer of dessert. I should say the prices are very reasonable, otherwise the review would be more harsh.

Italian style fast food, very busy, great service and not overpriced. We chose from the specials and it was very nice. Tuna was the best choice. The scallops were good but the sauce although tasty was a bit weird with scallops. Monkfish parcels excellent but seafood main course needed a bit more care. No bread was offered and the desserts were OK but generic. This restaurant is as advertised. Cash only was unusual but ok for us. If you are a big group wanting a party meal this place is great. Thanks for a nice meal and excellent service.

Just back from this place. Friendly staff and nice environment however, don’t you dare order a pizza. We have been out all day visiting the town and were starving, that’s the only reason we ate every single bit of what we have ordered. The pizza was not cooked at all and you could taste the taste of raw dough. Not to mention the overwhelming smell of garlic (on a Margherita!!!). Whoever reads this, please have a chat with your pizza chef

Went here for our lunch on a visit to the wonderful historic town of Berwick upon Tweed. The food was of a decent standard with a wide variety on the menu. The staff are very friendly and very attentive and they were always on hand for drinks. The surroundings are pleasant both inside and out. The prices are very reasonable for what we got so no complaints there. We chose to eat outside as it was a very hot day, after being seated I suddenly felt my jeans were soaked through. I was on some bench seating near the entrance which had plant boxes directly behind me which I think had been watered and it seems the bench seating got watered too? This really was an uncomfortable feeling and kind of spoiled my lunch!! And the rest of my day. I would go back but would definitely avoid the outside seating area .

In Berwick for a couple of days and fancied Italian. We had passed the restaurant while bimbling about and thought, why not. Didn't have massively high hopes because we thought it looked a tad corporate, but it ticked the boxes on the night. We couldn't have been more wrong. The decor was nice, but the staff were even nicer. Young wait staff, but they were both attentive and chatty, without being pushy. The Maitre 'd was lovely and it was a really pleasant experience. The food was gorgeous, (tiger prawns for starters and two different risottos for mains). The best risottos we've had in years. The chefs, Luciana and Stefan were very kind when we were introduced. Great wine, great food and a great atmosphere. Definitely highly recommended. John and Lez. X.

Because of some of the poor reviews , I was nervous about trying this place. And thought I’d post my honest feedback. Lovely restaurant building. Booked online and after a little wait due to a queue - shown quickly to our table, waiting staff very pleasant and attentive took our drink and food order pretty quickly. Starters came and were delicious. I had the prawns which were massive and really tasty, Hubbie had the bruschetta (also tasty) & my dad ordered the starter garlic bread - note this is big enough for four ppl! This is where it took a little dive, as waited over 45 minutes between courses. To then be told they’d ran out of salad for my parents steak meals… (can’t help but feel they could have got someone to run over to Asda which is 5 mins away - but that’s not for me to say!) but appreciate this was out of their control due to a delivery issue.. but the long wait to be told was rather frustrating. Main meals arrived. I ordered pasta and felt the portion size was quite small, - but I must say was very tasty and I enjoyed it very much. Parents had the sirloin steak. Mums steak was very large and dads was small, even though they ordered the same. But both agreed very tasty and good chips! Due to lack of salad, thought they would have offered more chips … I asked them if we could have tomatoes and olives to accompany which they did for us. Hubbie had the risotto and was good portion size and enjoyable. So overall we did enjoy the food , oh and the cocktails.. just let down a little by the slowish service. But waiters were very friendly. A good night overall.

Day 2

Off the beaten path
For day 2, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Paxton House. Not quite as popular as Berwick-Upon-Tweed Barracks, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 8 hours.

Paxton House is an impressive 18th-century Palladian stately home located east of Coldstream. It boasts original interiors, a remarkable collection of Chippendale furniture, and Georgian costumes and paintings from Scotland's national collection. The estate offers various activities for kids, including special trails and exhibitions. Visitors can explore the extensive woodland and grounds or take a boat trip along the Tweed River to learn about local wildlife and history.
We had the most incredible day celebrating our wedding at Paxton House. The venue was stunning and adaptable. Mel was truly wonderful, no job or idea was too big, small or weird for her! She was down with all our suggestions and committed to making them work. We loved that the venue was so ready to let us make our day specific to us - like bringing in an Iranian chef we loved from London to do the catering and having drinks and canapés by the river. We could not have been happier with the whole experience, from start to finish. Thanks to everyone at Paxton for making it such a special day!
Nima S — Google review
The exterior of the house is attractive but fairly plain. The guided tour was well executed and included lots of interesting information about the history of the house and it's past owners. The tour starts with the plainer rooms and works it's way round to increasingly ornate ones, finishing at the very impressive picture gallery. The formal gardens are mainly lawned with some flowerbeds around the edges. The cafe serves a good selection of hot and cold food, cakes and drinks. It poured with rain when I visited so I didn't explore the wider grounds. I recommend a visit to Paxton House.

Beautiful house. We've thoroughly enjoyed the guided house tour for 1.5 hours. Very informative. Tour guide Carol was extremely knowledgeable and witty which made the time fly by. I didn't want to leave!

Gorgeous place to visit with beautiful grounds. They often have a marquee with stall and unique handmade items. This was a bonus. The coffee shop is very charming and lovely coffee and scones.

First visit. Did a walk of the gardens. Ruby the cocker spaniel enjoyed herself - on lead. £7.50 a ticket. 2 adults total 16.00 Inc fee. Tearoom was good value. If in area - worth a look!
Rick A — Google review
The house and grounds are beautiful from the exterior. The grounds are massive and you can walk at your leisure - if you pay £7.50 for tickets. Not sure if you'd even have to pay to be honest, nobody is checking for tickets in the grounds. We weren't able to go inside the house as no 'house only' tour was available, and the house tours are guided only. The tours lasted approx 80 minutes which we didn't have spare.
John C — Google review
Grounds lovely but cafe very poor. The scone was dry and past its best - the gf flapjack was rock hard. I think they may have changed suppliers as it used to be good. Won't be back. Very disappointing as it's a nice place
Kathryn R — Google review
I was a little disappointed with Paxton house. You can only view the house if you have booked onto the tour and as there are only 3 per day the availability isn't good. The formal gardens are not really up to much and the water wheel was not running, and I would guess hasn't for a while. There is a nice looking tearoom but again limited when with the dog as their only allowed in a small room adjacent to the main room plenty of room outside but the weather was against us.

Sights & Landmarks
The Union Bridge, a suspension bridge made of wrought-iron, was opened in 1820 and spans the border between England and Scotland. It connects Horncliffe in England with Fishwick in Scotland, serving as both a functional link between the two countries and an aesthetically pleasing structure. The bridge offers stunning views from both sides, allowing pedestrians to traverse from England to Scotland with ease. Adjacent to the bridge is a delightful riverside walk leading towards Paxton House.
The Union Bridge offers a unique experience to walk across a bridge from England and arrive in Scotland on the other side. The bridge is a remarkable piece of engineering and back in 1820 it was the longest wrought iron suspension bridge in the world. More recently it has undergone a £10 million+ restoration and is quite a sight to see. Well worth seeking out if you're passing this area. One thing to note, you can drive across it IF you are in a narrow vehicle. Do not think for a moment you'll get a van or larger vehicle over it.....
Dr S — Google review
We were fortunate enough to be able to walk and drive across the bridge from England to Scotland and vice versa. It is a very narrow bridge so be aware of the size of the vehicle if thinking of driving across. We drove a Citroen C5 across and the distance sensors were beeping. I wouldn't recommend trying to drive a car bigger than that

A border where the spirit of the journey comes alive I crossed the border between England and Scotland by bike over a scenic bridge — a moment I’ll never forget. The bridge itself is simple, but the surrounding views are incredible: rolling hills, the river, open skies. The “Welcome to Scotland” and “England” signs make the crossing feel meaningful. A great spot to pause, take a photo, and reflect on the journey. It’s not just a border — it’s a milestone in the adventure.

Lovely tranquil area Nice to park up on the approach road and wander into the honey farm then saunter down the hill to the bridge and across to Scotland.. ideal for a walk along the river to Paxton house

I was out for a ride on Saturday 5th June. Decided to visit the Union or chain bridge on the Scotland/England border. I think it's the oldest suspension bridge in the UK. If you like engineering or motorcycling or a beautiful view then the bridge is well worth a visit. The local roads are worth an explore. However, be warned the local drivers don't hang about. I was doing the speed limit on the bike when I was overtaken by an 'old boy racer' in a Hyundai i10. I thought the bike had stalled!! 🤣🤣

The Union bridge the oldest vehicle suspension bridge in the world has had a fantastic revamp done to it recently. Linking England and Scotland over the amazing river tweed. Fantastic views from the bridge and beautiful walks in the scenery around it put it at one of my favourite parts of the UK❤️Super well done to the two local councils namely Northumberland Council and the Scottish Borders Council on coming together to preserve this majestic bridge for future generations to visit and see its wonderful 👏👏

As I journeyed along the England-Scotland border, a remarkable moment unfolded when I stumbled upon a small stone inscribed with a heartfelt message. This touching tribute invited travelers to snap a photo and share it on Facebook through the "APL Rocks" page, beautifully illustrating how personal memorials can enhance the landscape's charm.
While exploring the England-Scotland border on our way to Scotland, we came across a unique and touching discovery: a small stone with a heartfelt message written on it. The inscription was in memory of someone, and it invited passersby to take a photo and share it on Facebook, connecting them to a page called "APL Rocks." This simple stone stood out against the cobbled path, reminding us of the quiet beauty of personal memorials and how they weave into the landscape. It was a beautiful and unexpected moment that added a deeper, more human layer to our journey through the historical borderlands. Finding this stone not only highlighted the rich history and breathtaking scenery of the area but also showed how people leave traces of their loved ones in unexpected places. It truly made our trip feel more connected to the personal stories that shape these lands.

We had a very enjoyable holiday in England and Scotland. As we travelled north, we pulled over at a rest area that had been specially prepared. We were at the border between England and Scotland. There was a huge signboard to indicate that we were entering Scotland. It was great for photos, but nothing much else.
Andrew Y — Google review
The England-Scotland border, about 96 miles long, was shaped over centuries of treaties and conflicts. It was first defined after the Battle of Carham in 1018 and further formalized by the Treaty of York in 1237. The border saw centuries of conflict, including the Wars of Scottish Independence and raids by Border Reivers. Key events like the Union of the Crowns in 1603 and the 1707 Act of Union united the two nations, though the border remained symbolic. Today, it’s a peaceful, scenic region with notable crossing points like Gretna Green and Carter Bar.

Royal Border Bridge, completed in 1850, is an iconic stone railway bridge with 28 arches and colorful lights that illuminate it at night. Located near the Scottish border in Berwick-upon-Tweed, England's northernmost town, this historic structure offers stunning views over the River Tweed. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll along the river to admire this Victorian marvel or explore nearby attractions such as Paxton House and Berwick Lighthouse.
Royal Border Bridge is Grade I listed railway viaduct built between 1847 and 1850, when it was opened by Queen Victoria. It was designed by Robert Stephenson who was a son of railway pioneer George Stephenson. It was built for the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway and is still in regular use today. The bridge is 659 metres long and constructed in stone. It has 28 arches. The railway bridge is 37 metres tall above the river level which provides you a nice platform for bird eye view from above. Its so picturesque and one of the 3 bridges next to each other.
Win T — Google review
This bridge is one of the most impressive of railway viaducts and stands high above the Tweed. It carries the East Coast Main Line from London to Edinburgh across the river. It was also once used by trains on the branch line Berwick-Tweedmouth-Kelso-St Boswells. The approach from the south is on a curve and the viaduct can be seen in the distance from the train. It was opened by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1850. The railway station stands immediately to the north end of the viaduct (see picture below). Grade 1 listed. There are river walks on either side of the Tweed which pass under all three bridges. Further upstream from the bridge salmon are caught from February to September, using shore-based seine nets, the Tweed being the finest salmon river in the United Kingdom.

This family-run Indian diner offers an extensive menu that features both classic tandoori dishes and unique venison specials, all made to order for a fresh dining experience. Lovely Fresh Tandoori Rotis made just right. We needed to ask about which dishes were Vegan, and our lovely waiter knew by heart every single ingredient that went into each dish. Took my mum for her birthday treat ( lunchtime) although we chose not to have the lunch menu as it was quite limited. Poppadoms and dips were basic, vegetable pakora didn’t taste fresh. We ordered 3 mains, 1 of which was really good and the other 2 were average. The biggest issue we had was the service, the guy serving us appeared to not want to be there.. unhelpful , curt and forgot our drinks Shame as the restaurant inside is lovely, but we won’t be back. There’s better in the town!

Great food, service and atmosphere, we have been here for a meal almost every week. The lunch time menu and good sized portions are fantastic value. My 21 year old daughter will just not go another Indian restaurant. My wife, daughter and I think this place is number one indian. The bright and colourful decorations are also second to none. Everyone must try eating here. Recently tried the new indian restaurant competition and on no level did it compare on any level to Magna Tandoori. This place is the best Indian food, decor and service I've ever had time and time again. Never fails to provide the very best and a must try for everyone.

I’m a truck driver , parked on the industrial estate near Morrisons. Really fancied a good kebab for my evening meal tonight. Read all the local reviews and nearly didn’t order from here due to a negative review. Well I’m pleased I did, I ordered via”Just Eat” . The food arrived 15 minutes before the app had advised, which I was really impressed and pleased about. I had ordered a mixed kebab, the food was still hot, especially the chips. The chicken was cooked very well, lovely flavour, as was the shish. The donner meat was nicely cooked as well, I could not fault it at all, even the chips were well cooked, nice and golden in colour. The garlic dip was lovely as well. I would certainly recommend this place and will certainly use them in future when I park up here. Well done.

Ordered from here about two years ago and the food was good, the cue was out of the door. My god has it went so far down hill ever since. This time Zero customer service from the guy who served us, didn’t even acknowledge my hello on arrival even though I repeated it. Food was disgusting, we collected it ourselves also so it was freshly cooked apparently. The photos are of the £5.50 Spicy hot burger and the £15.50 House Special Kebab. Both dishes were very grim. Won’t be returning.

When we asked the individual in the shop he responded verbally with a bad manner “ Do you know what are you ordering?” ( indicating that if I know the good why am I asking for it ) Being disrespectfully even knowing a misunderstanding of the allergens could lead to the death of my relative. Not recommended.

We have been coming here for years to get our takeaways, no more though! We ordered a spicy beef pizza, there was no spice in the pizza and it was extremely bland, we also got a BBQ chicken pizza, which consisted of bits of chicken on a bed of cheese, layered on top with bbq sauce that was obviously out of a bottle and chips that were burned! Everything was disgusting, we won’t return and would discourage others from going! Come on sort yourselves out guys, you used to do a brilliant takeaway, real shame!!!

Do not eat at this place under any circumstances. The main food server is very rude and has absolutely no customer service skills if you're really that unhappy with your job you're free to switch it up and make that life better for yourself, don't take you unhappiness out on hungry customer's. They have a discount if you order through the website which they never inform you about in the shop. And they also fail to tell you if you order near to closing time the order is added the following morning orders. I got into a argument for asking if my order was confirmed and received due to I being near closing. Now for the actual food review the pizza I got was a basic cheese and tomato pizza with added chicken. This was not worth the wait it was burnt and tasteless it may of looked the part but sure didn't taste it. So please people do not waste your time and money in this establishment they are laughing to the bank while we rush to the toilet.

Gone massively down hill since we used it last the lamb was inedible couldn't chew. Chicken was OK but again chewy chips were lovely nd kebab meat quite nice. Late delivery I don't think we'd use it again

Pub

Nestled just outside Berwick upon Tweed, The Meadow House is a charming country pub and restaurant that embodies traditional values in every aspect. With its inviting decor and friendly staff, it creates a warm atmosphere for diners. Guests can indulge in a menu filled with locally sourced dishes, from scampi to steak and ale pie, all presented beautifully at reasonable prices. The spacious interior makes it an ideal spot for both quiet lunches and lively gatherings.
Lovely little pub. We stopped here on our way to Scotland, stayed in a camper in the car park along with a few other vans. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Food was great and also dog friendly with their own doggy bar 😁

Visited for lunch today. It was quiet on arrival, but did gradually fill up whilst we were there. The interior is modern, spacious and staff were very welcoming. Good selection of drinks. For food our party had scampi, beef burger, steak and ale pie, and hunters chicken. All our dishes were well presented and good quality/value for money. The menu is typical pub chain style, offering a decent selection of dishes, including starters, mains and desserts. On Sundays they offer a Sunday roast carvery. If passing through Berwick, in my opinion this is a good place for lunch or dinner, fitting into the mid range restaurant/bar category. If your looking for higher grade, a la carte style meals, then this would not be the place to visit.

We called here because it was the only place we could find that served food all day and not just at specific lunch and dinner times. Plus, they're dog friendly. The service was fast, the people were friendly and the prices are extremely low. The food was food. It filled a hole but nothing special. The coffee was great though! The pizza that the bar lady was eating looked good, but I didn't see pizza on the menu.

To be honest I wasn't going to go here after reading some of the reviews and it has 3.7* out of 5. When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised home bright and well finished it is inside. Looks like it has been recently decorated. Toilets where clean and didn't smell. The pub was quiet. Ordered my food. Prawn cocktail starter and 8oz Sirloin for main. My starter came in about 10 mins. Usually served in a large glass. This time it was on a plate. Well presented and very tasty. Came with fresh brown bread and butter. Next the main. I asked for medium for my steak. Was a little under but still very tasty. A good cut but not the best. Chips where lovely. Service was good and the woman behind the bar was polite and very helpful. Would go again.

We'd spent a day exploring Northumberland and found this pub just before we crossed the border into Scotland, it looked good from outside and the inside didn't disappoint. The food was excellent and plenty of it at great prices.

Very nice friendly pub. Extremely dog friendly, Great reasonably priced food. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal there and the 3 dogs had a smashing time too.

Simply amazing food servers here. Visited on a return drive to England and was more than surprised by the quality of the meals. Presentation is very good, and the portion size is also good, unlike other resturant which present food well, but then proceed to skimp on their portion size. The food served here is also avaliability at a very reasonable police, with three courses and a drink (probably) costing arround £25. As well as this there is also a massive selection of food, from pub favourites, to fish sources 8miles away, to gourmet food from the continent. Moving away from the food, there is also a large selection of beers and wisky to choose from. If this place was a little closet than 200miles away then I'd definitely become a regular here. If I ever return to Scotland, I know where I'll be eating on the way.

Dog friendly pub which is very handy, staffs are very welcoming as well. Pub looks brand new and well maintained with nice seats outdoor as well as indoor for dining.

The Salmon Inn is a fantastic and amiable pub that is also pet-friendly. It offers the convenience of allowing visitors to stay in the car park if they are respectful and quiet, which is particularly useful for those embarking on the nc500. The pub boasts a spacious beer garden and serves excellent pints, attracting friendly locals. With its authentic and down-to-earth atmosphere, it stands out from typical country pubs.

Not your average country pub. Very welcoming, friendly locals. Entertaining barman. Great place.

Absolutely amazing local pub, Tony made us so welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves every time we went in during our week holiday.. buttons the dog enhanced the experience for our daughter. Highly recommend to anyone who likes a laugh and a decent pint.

Came for lunch with my parents. The building itself is decent, but there was only one member of staff working and the food took a long time to arrive. It was ok food, and the portion was a little small. Generally the ambience was a little sombre, not helped by the small portable radio blasting in the corner. A little eerie. With some extra staff and some sprucing up this place could be very good. Potential is there, just needs a little love!

Spent 2 weeks on nearby campsite, the landlord of this pub was one of the friendliest I've ever come across. He really made a fuss of all our friends and families ... would 100% recommend the short walk to this proper pub from the holiday park ... thanks. The blackbeards🥃 went down a treat 😜

We visited here on the 21st as it was my sons 30th we wanted to have a nice family meal together. As we were unable to get booked anywhere in eyemouth due to the herring queen festival. We randomly phoned to see where we could get booked. Although the place was closed I explained what we were looking for. The owner opened up the food area for us and cooked our meal which was excellent absolutely nothing was too much bother for these guys. If I could give a 10 star rating they would get it. Amazing service, food and people. Thank you so much you made our night x

Been twice with a group of four and all had lovely meals. Salmon was tasty but chips a little dry and my Yorkshire pudding could have been better, rest of meal was very nice. Would recommend eating here.

Popped in randomly for a quick drink after a very long journey. Never been here before but I sure will be going again, the guy who served us was very friendly, chatty and polite as were the locals. The beer was perfect, everything a pub should be...
