The Bernina Express is a renowned panoramic train journey that takes passengers on a breathtaking ride through the Swiss Alps and into Italy. Departing from either Chur or St. Moritz in Switzerland, the historic red train climbs to impressive heights, offering unparalleled views of Italian and Swiss mountain ranges, glaciers, and picturesque landscapes. The route includes crossing 196 bridges, including the spiral viaduct of Brusio, and traversing the Bernina Pass to Engadin.
The most beautiful train ride I’ve been on! The train has really big windows so you get a better view of the landscape. We went from Chur to Tirano, it was about 4 and a half hours. The train goes at a relatively slow speed so you get to take in all the views. Definitely book your tickets and seats ahead of time.

It was amazing experience for us. We went from St. Moritz to Tirano. The train has panorama windows and the driving is very comfortable and gentle. The views are breathtaking. I highly recommend everyone to try Bernina express.
Great experience. From chur to Tirano take the Right side for more view. Both sides are great but the major attributes can be appreciated at the right side (from Chir to Tirano). Something that I don't know was that they offer a gift (a mini carrier with chocolate hearts and a beverage tea).
Absolutely incredible! No words to describe the beauty of Alps throughout the journey from Chur to Tirano. This Bernina express is unique and definitely a must try lifetime experience.
This was the best train journey I’ve ever experienced. I went in first class but space and seats are probably the only difference between the two classes. The views are just stunning! You go over mountains, fields, glaciers I could just keep naming things. Around the end (if you are going from Tirano to St Moritz) you can get off at the highest point for pictures and a coffee. The staff are super friendly and always try to make your journey pleasant. This exhilarating ride takes about two and a half hours (if you again are going from Tirano to St Moritz). I highly recommend going on the right side as you get more amazing panoramic views though both sides are great. It is best if you book in advance although upgrades are sometimes available on the day. 5 stars.
Beautiful experience!
I traveled today in 1st class from Chur to Tirano — it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The landscapes were breathtaking, the train was clean and comfortable, and the atmosphere very peaceful.
However, the Wi-Fi link didn’t work, and unfortunately the toilet in 1st class was out of order, which was a bit disappointing for such a premium journey.
Other than that, everything was lovely — I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to enjoy one of the most scenic train rides in Europe.
We travel to Milan for our vacation, but noticed that there is such a cool train track, Bernina Express. So we decided to try booking the entire trip via Klook. This turned out to be the best decision we made in this trip.
The mountainous and forest view along the train route is so beautiful, breathtaking and stunning. Please see the photos and vedios I uploaded.
Don’t think too much, just book and go. There are many ways to do this, please look up more detail in Google or Youtube.
Highly recommend to go. It’s a MUST in your life time.
One of the best trip we've ever made, a must for any couple despite it was far from our hotel (3 hiur to reach it) but it worth ever minute.

MANOR Chur is an excellent shopping destination with a wide range of options and numerous discounted items. It offers a diverse selection, including cosmetics, toiletries, stationary, kids' clothes, and more. This department store provides convenience as it caters to various needs and is considered a one-stop shop for all kinds of purchases. The curtain department deserves special appreciation for their remarkable work, while the salesperson demonstrates high competence in assisting customers.
This shopping centre is very clean and beautifully merchandised. The top floor has a food service area with great coffee. All the best bands under one roof.

A good shopping place with a lot of options to shop and quite a few things were at discounted pricing. Also the best part is that you get all all different types of things that you want to buy starting from a cosmetics toiletries, stationary kids clothes, so it is the one in all shop to buy anything and everything.
The terrace is a wonderful place to eat with a fantastic view of Chur. You can choose your vegetables, pasta, sauce, etc and it is cooked in front of you. I had gnocchi with veg and fruit tea and paid 25.30 CHF. Everything seems healthy and fresh.
Great shopping centre with lots of products for kids, adults, or anyone.
You can buy stuffs for school, office, home, kitchen, bedroom, garden, etc.
There's a restaurant on the 5th floor, and a supermarket on the basement floor.
A complete store for the whole family.
Manor is very expensive,but if you have time and patience to stroll around the isle,you will definitely find something that you can afford. After walking around inside the store,I found a dress for a nice price. 😘🤩
Very big multi-stories Manor that has very cute Christmas selections which was exactly what I needed. It is also very well stocked in winter stuff and a great place to get essential items!
The place is quite good and nice but some of the staff need training in smiling and supporting customers as am not sure if the management of the places in Europe gives trainings or not.
You have to park in the basement and pay before you enter the mall.
There are some parking rules which are not familiar to visitors.
I have been trying to buy something from the jewelry stand at Manor in Chur for literally three years. Without success, the waiting time for the lady who is supposed to serve me is simply too long, and they are not nice or friendly.

What an amazing little restaurant! The owners were so kind and helpful. We were only in Chur for one night and wanted to have a good meal with the kids. Coming from Vancouver, Canada, we get a lot of good Asian food there. This was our first time trying Tibetan food, though, and it was SO good.

I‘m a Momo‘s lover and these ones didn’t disappoint. We were there for lunch, we didn’t make a reservation but we were really lucky to found a table on the terrace. The Wok was very rich in flavour, a bit salted but very good. Highly recommended if you are a Momo’s lover like me
As always one if not the BEST restaurant in Chur. And I have also tried many momo places in Switzerland and the moms here are the most delicious around.
The Portions are also quite big and the prices good, especially in Switzerland and the staff is very welcoming and kind.
I can recommend the Happy Momo deal if you are 2 or more People!

Quiet and homely place in this tiny city of Chur! Landed here after our visit to the Landwasser Viaduct and were pretty happy about the food, portions n the family which runs this place!

After enjoying the art, including several interesting mixed-media pieces, and appreciating the design of the floors, walls, and stairs, there's a wonderful cafe where you can sit, discuss the art, and soak up the ambiance. The old part is lovely renovated, sunny and charming. The new part (much bigger) is bit harder to enjoy, rather cold and empty. I wouldn't say it was "fun", rather tiring but interesting nevertheless.
We arrived on the day this place was free for international museums day....I am so glad it was free otherwise I would have felt robbed. This was mostly The Emperors new cloths time. I love good modern art, but this was not good. Sorry I was looking forward to my visit
A beautiful museum with old and new architecture, villa La Planta built 1874-1875 and the modern extension built 2011. The Giacometti family's work is very present, amazing pieces a sight to art lovers. Not to be missed is La Planta café, simply beautiful
The buildings already are fascinating to visit. Collection has a few surprises but might need a bit more excitement and adventure.
Stunning architecture and an impressive collection. Really the must-see in Chur. Especially enjoyed the opportunity to get to know some more Swiss artists. Note that the audio guides are free with informative contextual insights that actually enhance the experience (unlike so many art gallery audio guides!!)
Amazing museum. A must visit place when you're in chur. The architecture is stunning with classic and modern constructions combined. There is also a Cafe in between the garden. The surroundings are usually pretty crowded (manor is nearby). The museum has such an amazing interior aswell as exterior architecture.
I found the architectural features of the new building to be as fascinating as the exhibits. The stairways, foyer and room transitions are extraordinary, especially as you make the underground journey from the new building into the old building.

This Coop has been refurbished for the last month and inside there is more open space, multiple choices for shopping. Upstairs there is a quite large restaurant and an indoor play area.....extra bonus for children.

The only downside here is to find the entrance to the parking garage here, it was not clearly marked as parking for Coop so I headed to another parking place which was 500m further along the street. Especially if you are not familiar with said area 🤷♀️
The slightly more pricy supermarket brand, fruits are not really in good quality - oranges are bruised and old..
Employees are very friendly and always happy to help. Been shopping here for +12 years and have never had an issue.
The parking garage is quite big and there's always enough space for everyone (it's even got charging spots for EVs).
The new self checkouts are also really quick.

Amazing grocery and household market in Chur! Really good prices for Switzerland. About 10 -12 minute walk from the train station, or car park below ground. (There is a very small convenience-type Co-op under the platforms at the train station.) This larger store has everything one needs.

A very well-structured museum of considerable geological interest. I especially enjoyed the exhibition on foxes, and the collection of minerals and fossils is impressively large. However, the availability of information in English is limited..
Changing exhibitions every half a year. Currently, there is a squirrel exhibition showing squirrels from birth to full-grown. Perfect for rainy weather since everything is shown indoors. Our visit was amazing. Thank you 🌺
We visited the current exhibition about the squirel. It was interestingly displayed and explained. There are a lot of things for smaller kids to look at ( stiffed animals, pictures, videos, nests...) , touch (different furs, horns, skulls...) or for older booklet to solve tasks and quizzes. The text is only in German. But nowadays, it's easy to translate with Google. Upstairs is also more information about local insects, how the alps were created and downstairs about fish.

This is a must go spot in Chur. In the heart of old town, second floor spot with a great vibe. Tapas were out of this world. Have the Caprese, Spanish sausage and pick one of the daily specials. Staff was hustling but friendly and attentive. You have to try the "carajillo". Flaming Brandy and sugar cube with an Expresso poured on top. The owner made me mine, in a busy time, with quite the flair.

The ambiance was great and staff were nice. Sorry, my photos aren't great, I turned the brightness too high and dishes aren't centered; I was in rush to eat the waffles! We ordered a custom waffle (ruby chocolate, sour cherries) and a pre-designed one (creation n°2 from the sweet waffle section of the menu), which had milk and dark chocolate, bananas, straciatella ice cream, and toasted almonds. Both were amazing!

What a nice find in Chur. The service was exceptional and the chef made us a custom savory tasting waffle from creation #2, 3 and 4. The tuna paste and hummus was so delicious. The pizza waffle was yummy and we finished with a very special sweet banana waffle with lemon curd, and pink chocolate. What makes this place stand out is the attention to detail and service. The wonderful flavors reflect the pride and effort chef puts into the food. Thanks again Chef Mohammad!
The waffles were good. Just not sure it’s worth the 15 minute walk from the train station. Don’t get me wrong. They were good. Just not overwhelming like I expected.

Wow! Incredible waffles. You can choose from one of their creations of sweet Belgian waffles, or you can create your own. They also have an assortment of savory waffles. I created my own and discovered a kind of chocolate I had never heard of before...ruby chocolate! It's like milk chocolate, but pink in color. Delicious and unique. Highly recommend WaffelKhur!!!

We had an absolutely fantastic time at Restaurant Calanda! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming — the perfect setting for a great meal. The food was truly outstanding — each dish was full of flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care and top-quality ingredients.
A special mention goes to Tina, who took such wonderful care of us. Her service was warm, attentive, and professional throughout our visit. She made us feel truly welcome and added a personal touch that elevated the entire experience.
The overall vibe of the place was lively and full of energy, which made our time there even more enjoyable. We left with full hearts and happy stomachs. Highly recommended — we’ll definitely be back!

A pleasant restaurant, but extremely touristy – it was full of people. If you're looking for a quieter place, this is definitely not the spot for you. The food was tasty, but I wouldn't say it was one of the best I've had.
The waiter left an unpleasant impression as he intruded into our personal space and made quite strange faces and comments. Perhaps this is his approach to being different and supposedly friendly to customers.
I've struggled a bit to find good vegan options in Chur, there seem to be very few places, especially for dinner, and especially if you want a traditional Swiss meal. I've also struggled to make sure I could get enough protein without having flex into a vegetarian diet and include eggs or cheese.
Needless to say, when I found that Calanda offered a salad with vegan chicken, I was so relieved and excited. I'm very passionate about salads. It was also pretty big, and came in a huge glass bowl. The salad base itself was varied, with lots of different kinds of lettuce and greenery (I can't stand salads that are just iceberg lettuce). It also had shredded/grated veg and seeds, so lots of textures and flavours which I appreciate in a salad. I also asked for the dressing on the side which came in a cute little gravy boat jug. They were extremely accommodating. They also provide multiple options for dressings.
We also got a pretzel on the side, which was warm and beautifully fluffy.
My partner got the Malun(?), which can be made vegetarian, or include bacon. This was also delicious and was served with nice big chunks of cheese.
The serving staff were all lovely. I would recommend for other vegan/vegetarian travellers.
Food was tasty, and generous portions.
The staff were very responsive and friendly.
Especially waiter Karl, he was patient and detailed in his recommendations and we came back for dinner. 😊
We were staying in chur and most other restaurants were serving venison ( not for us ) then we come across calanda the food is excellent something for everyone the service is excellent very friendly and helpful and we visited a few times on our stay you don't have to eat if you fancy a drink your welcome 10/10 +++++++ highly recommend

A wonderful restaurant in the historic part of the city. The place specializes in grilled meat, and it’s absolutely delicious! The service was top notch, down to the patience of our attendant explaining what to expect and his recommendation for both meat and wine for the meal, and very importantly understanding needs for his patrons - he promptly offered to serve all our food together for sharing as opposed to by course.

Chur Bergbahnen (Brambrüesch) is an aerial cable car that operates year-round, offering a scenic ride from Chur city center to the slopes of Brambrüesch mountain. It's a popular destination for families, with a wide range of winter activities available. The resort is known for skiing and trekking, making it an ideal place to spend quality time with loved ones. Visitors can enjoy the breathtaking views of the city and Alps from the top of the mountain.
It opens late on Saturday evening so we went after 5pm. It was fairly quiet with only two other groups in the car. The Chur pass from your hotel gives 1/3 off the price of the return which is otherwise 25 per adult. Pitch black at the top and in the cable car on the way back which is a lot of fun but bring a torch! We booked into Bergbaiz for fondue which was also great.

It was a great experience in summer. You can see the whole Chur and the surrounding mountains. the cable cars are in two sections. First one is a large car carrying many people. The 2nd part is a series of old small cars. The built quality and safety of these are bit questionable. But Switzerland is the pioneers of cable cars. So, they might know what they are doing better than us. Staff was very friendly. Tickets look bit expensive. Tickets can be bought from the counter. Or maybe you can use the Swiss pass. Again, everything in Switzerland is expensive. On the top of the mountain, you have a heavenly great view.
It maybe bit difficult to find this place from the railway station as all the sign boards are in German. You may either take bus 10/11 or 12, or remember the German word "Brambrüesch" of this place and ask a local, or head towards the lower end of the cables which are visible from the city center.
Fabulous ride on 2 cars to the top. The day was warm and sunny so we were able to see far into the distance. Nice stroll at the top to take photos before our descent. Did notice had we been more active there are plenty of paths to hike further. And if you fancy mountain biking down we'll that's available too.
Easily accessible, short double cable-car hop up the mountainside. Gorgeous panoramic views.

An outstanding place, I have a Lebanese friend back home in the states that introduced me to Arabic meals so I like to try on my travels. This place was perfect for me, nice manageable menu, with dishes packed with flavors! Even the fries were delicious, they had a very nice season salt on them setting them apart. The shawarma was packed with well coated beef and the side sausage they provide made it difficult to chose so I kept switching back and forth. If you want to experience a traditional Arabic meal give this place a chance! I didn't get her name, she had long black braided hair, but she provided absolutely great service. So polite, friendly and easily helps with the menu.
My husband and I knew this was the place to go when Every other restaurant was empty but this one was full. Glad we were right! Shwarmas beef and chicken were fantastic. Hummus was delicious! I loved the garlic and curry sauces. Husband and I ordered smaller Valentinos plate and it was enough for us to share! The falafel was sooo yummy and Abraham let us try the ostrich and we loved it!!

We stopped by CHUR after taking the Glacier Express. It’s a great restaurant with delicious food, polite staff, and excellent service. As a HongKonger, this is the place for authentic Cantonese dishes! Home away from home for me, Han Kung never disappoints, with its food quality and service. Lovely restaurant hidden away from the centre of town.. The interior is beautiful with lovely paintings on the walls. Staff are friendly and service quick and efficient. We arrived and were warmly greeted. The owner and chef speaks English and recommended a couple of dishes, they were fantastic. Great traditional Swiss food, and try the roetteli after dinner it's made by Markus the owner to his special formula.
We had a very good lunch and even could meet with Ciro.
We sat outside in the beer garden area, you can also sit inside. Shared a caprese salad, was good. My wife ordered a plate of vegetables which I don't think was on the menu, she asked if they had anything mostly vegetables. It had green beans, broccoli with bearnaise sauce, carrots and cauliflower. She enjoyed it especially as vegetarian plates at a normal restaurant aren't common. I ordered the Schwienenschnitzel (pork schnitzel) with French fries and vegetables. The pork was very good as we're the vegetables, I skip the fries as I didn't need them.
Beat parts of the evening were the service, best we've had in Switzerland, and the bill, again the best we've had for a sit down meal. Highly recommended!

The décor fell short of our expectations. In contrast, the Giger Bar in Gruyères, despite its smaller size, exuded a significantly more stylish ambiance.
First things first: you can disregard the review that says you can only pay in cash. As of May 2025, you don’t have to worry about that at all.
The rest of the reviews are basically spot on. There’s oddly incongruent pop music playing, though quieter than I expected based on other reviews. There’s a cute dog that barked when someone attempted to pet it. Etc.
This bar is not associated with the Giger estate, which makes the experience less curated but also kind of fun. How surreal is it to see a neon glowing Red Bull statue behind the bar, or a dinosaur skeleton?
Fun times, lovely staff, worth the trip out for me. But if you can only do one, better to go to the “official” (ie associated with the estate) bar in Gruyères.

Bar designed with the help of Giger - the designer of the Alien creature and ships from the Alien film franchise. Bar isn’t open late - and in the middle of a industrial estate so you have to make a special trip for it. We were there and had the place to ourself mid morning.
A must for H.R Giger fans. Great service and amazing decor. It's like walking into an art exhibition that turned into a pub. Make sure you try to find the H.R Giger's face and ask the staff about the history of this place.
This is a strange experience. But not why you'd think.
It's surrounded by extremely suburban environs, and because it's in a weird complex, it's hard to find. The address is 23, not 19 as Google originally reported.
Inside, you'll get an authentic Geiger experience, with skeletal furniture. But the music and staff are at odds with the aesthetic. Country to pop music plays while you're having a normal drink experience. No word drinks or cocktails. Just everyday beer, wine, and alcohol. The theme falls short because of it.
Also, the hours are extremely weird for a bar. It kind of feels like an art installation in a mall. Not sure why they close at 7...

We stopped by during a road trip day. It’s a fantastic gym which is huge (including a nice rooftop) and has all kinds of climbing routes!
Well-maintained, clean and friendly staff. There were a lot of good routes (from grades 4-8a). Pricing seemed a bit much (from a foreigner perspective). Routes were graded very softly, most felt about one letter grade off (good for the ego though!). Most routes were pretty fun but not that special. Overall, I would recommend the gym.
We visited the gym with a day pass during our trip through Switzerland. Apart from having great routes and boulders and being spotlessly clean, the staff is amazing and extremely helpful. Marek went out of his way to help us and look for a hostel for us to stay in. Great atmosphere, cool place.

I stopped here with my daughter the other night and was blown away by the high quality pasta, desserts and service. We were greeted by Momma and another lovely lady who worked at the shop. The gnocchi and spinach ricotta raviolis were both amazing. So good in fact we brought some ravioli home. I definitely recommend anyone stops by for pasta to sit and dine or eat at home, you won’t be disappointed.

My husband dined here last night with our daughter. They enjoyed their meal so much they came home with extra ricotta spinach ravioli for dinner tonight. They are such a treat. We will come back for certain and look forward to trying everything. Highly recommend for dinning in or taking home fresh past.

The Martinskirche is one of the oldest churches in Chur and definitely worth a visit. From the outside, it’s rather simple — but that’s exactly where its charm lies. No flashy decorations, just honest Gothic architecture with a slender tower that stands out in the cityscape.
The church dates back to the 8th century, though most of what you see today comes from the 15th century. Inside, you’ll find beautiful stained-glass windows, including some created by the famous Swiss artist Augusto Giacometti. Yep, part of that Giacometti family — the one that also gave us sculptor Alberto Giacometti.
They often host concerts here too, and the acoustics are excellent. Just make sure your phone doesn’t start playing ABBA mid-performance — even Giacometti’s windows wouldn’t save you then. 😊
The Church of St. Martin in Chur is the largest late Gothic building in Graubünden and the largest Protestant Reformed church building in the canton. With its late Gothic bell tower, it is a landmark in the old town. It is dedicated to Martin of Tours. The interior is characteristically modest, but very pleasant. There is a lot of high-quality woodwork that adorns the church.

Lovely little place in Chur Aldstadt. We managed to sit down for lunch at 13:15 on a Tuesday when most other places were closed. They sat us down outside and the service was friendly and efficient. The food was good but we have this four stars as we think the food could have been a bit better. The nussli Salat with egg was tasty if you like a lot of bacon and egg with your salad. I though the spargelsuppe was too heavy on the cream, which was a pity. The Capuns were tasty too but we were used to it being served with more sauce.
Also the toilets were clean, modern, lots of soap, toilet roll, good hand dryer and alcogel.

Nestled conveniently just off the Chur-Sud exit of the A13 motorway, Hotel Sommerau is a delightful stop for travelers heading to Chur or beyond. Just a short five-minute drive from the city center, this charming hotel features a lovely restaurant with an inviting terrace that serves Mediterranean dishes alongside local Grisons specialties. Open daily, it offers free WiFi and ample parking for guests. During my visit, I chose Sommerau as a lunch spot on my way to St.
We picked out this restaurant as our lunch stop on our way to St Moritz and this place is a fantastic choice!!!
That saffron essence from the “Saffron foam soup with roasted salmon cubes” (no photo) was delicate and divine.
The combination in “Cicorino rosso with port wine pears, fresh dates, hazelnuts with honey balsamic, Tête de Moine and pear bread slice” was succulent.
The pepper cream sauce in the “Rump steak with Whisky-pepper cream sauce, French fries and vegetable” was delicious. I asked to substitute the fries with croquettes.

The hotel is situated on the edge of town where several major roads converge and there is a petrol station next door. Bad news? Not at all. It turned out to be the best possible choice. I had a very comfortable ground floor room with my own parking space. There was hardly any traffic noise so the rooms must be very well insulated. Everything was very clean. The guest card gave me free use of local transport and free or reduced entry to museums and other attractions. The bus stop was directly across the road from the hotel and there were buses every ten minutes or so into town and the railway station. The quality of the food was outstanding and the fresh wholemeal bread at breakfast absolutely delicious. I cannot recommend the Hotel Sommerau highly enough. I would not hesitate to stay there again if visiting Graubünden.

First off, the McDrive is great—if you enjoy the thrill of wondering whether your order will be correct. It’s like playing the lottery, but instead of winning money, you win an extra pickle or lose half your fries.
Inside, the atmosphere is classic McDonald's: slightly chaotic, a mix of delicious and questionable smells, and the distant sound of a child either laughing or having a meltdown. The food? Exactly what you expect—hot, salty, and scientifically engineered to make you crave more despite knowing better.
But let’s talk prices. Remember when McDonald's was the cheap option? Yeah, me neither. At this rate, I half expect my next Big Mac to come with a financing plan.

I visited the McDonald’s in Chur and had a surprisingly great experience. I ordered a spicy burger which was both flavorful and perfectly cooked — not dry at all. The fries were especially good because they weren’t overly salty like in many other fast-food places.
The atmosphere was clean and calm, and the staff were friendly and efficient. I also appreciated how clean the toilets were — that’s always a good sign.
Definitely a great stop for a quick bite if you're in the area!

We were warmly welcomed at this hostel! Easy check-in and very friendly staff. The way the building's history is used for the concept is reflected in every detail, and it's amazing! The room was impeccably clean and comfortable, and the view was fantastic! We were also able to leave our luggage after check-out so we could explore the city. We loved being in this prison :P

Our family of 4 (2 kids- 8 & 7) had a wonderful 1 night stay. Our room had a bed for 2 and a set of bunks. We were in town to catch the Bernina Express and it was a wonderful location to do so. Check in and check out went smoothly. Our friends stayed here also and we stopped at Deness Express for some ice cream sandwiches after dinner and ate them together in the community area while watching the television and playing board games. Everything we needed was within walking distance, including places to eat and the train station. Although there was no AC, we were very comfortable and kept the windows open (late September). We did not have the correct outlet converter and the wonderful lady working the front counter allowed us to borrow one to charge our phones. The complimentary cappuccino was a wonderful surprise upon checkout, too. There is nothing fancy at all about this hotel and it is a minimalists dream come true, but it had everything we needed! The hostel has a very interesting background! Would definitely recommend staying here.

Love the place and the area! As you all know this was an old prison transfer to a hostel. Me and my sister stayed at the single room that has its own bathroom. Everything is nicely design, very functional, bright, quiet, fun to walk around and great to get to know the history of building. The room was also bigger than we thought with enough luggage space under the bed.
Architects/ designers did a great job transforming the building! Hope it keep up for many great years to come!!!

Probably the best hostel in Switzerland. An atmospheric and wonderfully renovated former prison; it has modern facilities and is wonderfully situated within the old town of Chur. It is clean and quiet and there is a good restaurant next to it. The hostel bedrooms have an ensuite toilet and each bed has a curtain for privacy.
Friendly and helpful staff too.

We stayed in a 2 bed room which was a bunk bed with a lovely shower en suite.
The ladder to the top bunk was a little painful for my middle aged feet but it was comfortable to sleep in.

Super cool setting (old prison in historical town converted to housing / hostel / restaurant), very nice menu with some local specialties and wine, and last but not least top service, with a keen sense of humor (especially the gentleman) and all staff seemed to do their job with pleasure. Only bemol: wine quite expensive, but I understood these were the default prices for wine in this region.
I went for an ice coffee and ended up staying for two hours. The drink was smooth, not overly sweet, and had a good coffee flavor, refreshing and just right for a hot day. The relaxed atmosphere and comfortable setting made it easy to lose track of time. Definitely a nice spot to unwind with a quality drink.

The Ratisches Museum is a fantastic impression of Raetian history within Switzerland.
Studying it, you can still do it within just over an hour. I took 1 hr 20.
Its cellar has the ancient history & its artefacts & lighting make it very atmospheric.

Sorry but this museum was underwhelming. It was free as part of the city tax you pay, the hotel will give you a card where you can enter the museum for free. But I really didn’t enjoy it, nothing interesting compared to all the other museums in the bigger cities.
Sadly we had only little time here but really nice, would love to revisit! Especially family track with a ring of keys makes is more tangible for kids.
It's in the historic quarter in front of a church. It use to have interesting temporary exhibitions in addition to the permanent ones.

We had a great lunch on a cool and rainy day between normal lunch and dinner times. We sat at a cozy indoor table, but they have lots of outdoor seating as well. Until it got busy, one of the owners was able to spend some time chatting with us all about the restaurant. We had a great lunch with wonderful food. We stayed for a second round of drinks to avoid the rain since there is a pretty good liquor selection. Of course we had to finish off with desert! If you are in the area, don't miss this hidden gem!

A rather cozy cathedral with a rich history dating back to the 12th–13th century, officially consecrated in 1272. It was built on the site of even older churches, with archaeological finds reaching all the way to the 5th century.
The cathedral mixes Romanesque and Gothic styles, with its massive Romanesque west window being considered the largest medieval window in the Graubünden region. Inside, you’ll find a beautiful late-Gothic high altar carved by Jakob Russ in 1492. The tower was significantly rebuilt after a fire in 1811.
An interesting fact: during the Reformation, the cathedral and the surrounding bishop’s court became a kind of Catholic island in the city—separated from the rest of Chur for almost three centuries.
The starkness of the outside hides the richness of local history and the Catholic faith found within. A pilgrim stop site along the *Camino a San Santiago".
Quite a beautiful Cathedral with some very interesting art. The one altar that is to the left just as you enter is amazing - it is dated to the 16th century but there is no attribution to any artist.
The main altar, however, is the best piece of art and is magnificent.
Beautiful little church in Chur with a serene atmosphere. If you're taking the glacier Express to Zermatt from Chur then keep some extra time in hand and stop by here. You will be glad you did!

The highest point I will recommend to go on foot for the view of Chur. At least there are walking path. Nearest bus stop is near the cathedral but easy walking to the train station from here, takes about 15mins easy walk. Can explore Chur on foot.

It is an annual destination for the Chur Maiensassfahrt and features the charming St. Luzikapelle from the 17th century. Accessible by foot from Chur in about 45 minutes, Mittenberg offers a challenging yet rewarding hike with stunning views.

An easy ascent and long easy descent. The view from the destination is down to Chur. The signposts aren’t great until 2.5km to the top, but all ways lead to Mittenburg.
Amazing place quite hard to get to. Very long walk. But worth it coz of the wow factor. Like qing qing grass land in taiwan. Since very few signages, i post quite a lot of pictures to guide future hikers.
Take bus 2 to heckenweg. Walk up the route posted. Rmb to use only the trails mark by the white red paints on the tree trunks. Other routes slippery, so hard to climb even if short cut.
Really steep in some places. Be warned. Be patient even if take more than 1.5hrs. Worthwhile. Also climbing down tedious. Hard on the knees.

Wonderful restaurant in the heart of Chur. We found this hidden gem by recommendation from our hotel concierge and it was better than anything we could have expected! The service provided by Laszlo was excellent, and the food was absolutely delicious.

A lovely restaurant hidden away in the old town in the ground floor of a beautiful old building. Excellent choice of vegetarian and vegan food. I had the creamy tomato soup followed by the Naan - 4 plate sized nan breads with several vegan curries. All delicious. The restaurant itself is charming and decorated in an old style and the staff were extremely friendy and welcoming.

We arrived there 30 minutes early and being aware of it we asked if it was better to come later or if it was fine to stay. The weather was beautiful that day and it wouldn’t have been a problem to go for a small walk before our dinner, and this was communicated to the restaurant when we arrived. The person who attended us was remarkably annoyed that we were early, still decided to welcome us in to then handle us the menus and say “take your time to order”. Well, it’s not like we had a choice because they avoided any form of eye contact and took 20 minutes to take our drinks order.
The whole atmosphere after that was tense and frankly uncomfortable. We were excited to be there and celebrate a special day for us but the experience was more unpleasant than anything else.
Food was great, service not friendly and even rude, especially the person at the entrance supposed to greet and welcome customers.

The food might be good, but the restaurant represents very poor customer service. First of all, no one welcomes you at the entry of the restaurant; we had to go ourselves to look for someone to show us a table for our reservation. Waitress A showed us the table and gave us a menu in English, which was good because we do not speak German. Waitress B came to us to collect the order, and here is where the huge disappointment and completely ruined evening started. We ordered the same salad and clams to share (which I made very clear), and the same main dish. I even made a joke that we ordered literally the same food.

BRAVO Head Chef and Crew! My intuitive choice for my special dinner with the family at La Vita, turned out to be a perfect choice. The climate of the Ristorante - Vinoteca was elegant, without excess decor, in green colors emphasizing the character of this place. And above all, the rich but not overloaded menu encouraged us to enjoy the dishes served here. The biggest attraction of the evening as CLOU, was the GAMBERONI GRIGLIA, which tempted us with its colors, composition additives and delicious taste, which was a feast for the palate. Taking advantage of the sommelier's advice, we selected from the extensive wine list the one the best harmonised with the dishes and were also moderately priced. The final dessert, Home Made Tiramisu was a perfect complement to our successful family meeting. We were 2 couples looking for a nice Italian and came across La Vita as we walked from our Hotel around the corner. The pizzas were excellent , tasty , thin base "just like mama used to make". The staff were extremely pleasant and friendly. Our waitress- Seraina - was very nice and very helpful, she suggested a very nice local wine which was great It was a very nice experience to eat at this restaurant. The food was very good and the staff gave excellent service. I recommend this restaurant and I will love to visit it again.

For the four of us in my family, we shared 2 dishes between ourselves and two kids; the weinerschnitzel and the pork with morel sauce. Everything was delicious and affordable! An intriguing spot well worth a brief visit. While the Roman remains may not be extensive, the surrounding architecture alone makes the visit worthwhile. Standing there, one can't help but reflect on the grandeur of the Roman Empire. Be sure to pick up the keys from the tourist office before heading there.
Zumthor smashes it. Interesting artifacts to accompany the architecture. Make sure to get the key from the tourist information desk at Chur train station before travelling to the building. It’s €50/50CHF cash deposit for the key, and €5/5CHF for entry. We had the place to ourselves and whilst visiting in the morning.
Great architecture with a nice exposition. You can get the entrance key at the chur tourism office at the station for a 50 EUR/chf deposit. Entrance itself costs 3 chf.
Need to grab key for 5 chf at the tourist centre first. Give 50 chf deposit in case you don bring the key back but you get it when you return the key. Then walk towards the Shelter of Roman Ruins which is 10 mins away. Interesting site. My husband is an architect so he took lots of photos and took his time.

It's all great, but why do we have to scan a code to find out when the office is open? Isn't it easier to just write what the opening hours are? Such pseudo-conveniences make no sense.
Very friendly and helpful. Recommend the city golf course to have fun and get to know your way around the city.
The lady at the counter was excellent. She informed everything very nicely for the city and nearby places.

Rätushof is a restaurant located in Chur, Switzerland, approximately 6 minutes from the station. It offers a variety of traditional Swiss dishes, with rosti being a standout item on the menu. This place made my Switzerland Trip. The food was a definite 10 out of 10. What you see from the pictures online is exactly what you get. The portions are DECENT. And the price is FAIR especially comparing to other places around Switzerland. I was overly impressed. Thank you Ratushof.

The cordon bleu is good. Really large serving for our asian tummies.
My meatloaf was very full flavoured and large for me too.
Service crew recommended the potato rosti for my wife's side dish and this was good too.

Dinner here with husband. The waiter was incredibly grumpy, no welcome or smile. We asked if we could share a dish (as I have to eat small portions at the moment). That was a firm "no!" from the waiter. So we ordered 2 mains which were dumped on the table unceremoniously. He took ages to clear our plates then another age before we received the dessert menu then had the cheek to suggest we add a tip to the bill.
The food itself was OK, dull but edible.There are better places in town with better food and much better service.

AMAZING HIGHLY RECOMMEND, we live in Florida so we normally eat American food and when we came to Switzerland we never got that good of food. We went there a couple hours ago and it was THE BEST! Among the four destinations on my Switzerland trip—Zurich, Grindelwald, Zermatt, and Bern—this meal was the worst. Despite the nice service and atmosphere, it was hard to grasp the value of the food, especially because these dishes were listed as chef recommendations. Also, we wanted to try the tomato soup which so called signature of swiss dish, but it tasted like it came straight from a pasta sauce can. Disappointed 😢

During our overnight stay in Chur we were very pleased to find this gem. The choice of food was very varied, the prices very reasonable in comparison to others around and on top of that we met the very friendly Ozana who made our visit extra memorable. She was friendly, fun and took time to make us feel so welcome whilst giving great customer service at the same time. We hope to come back some time.

We highly recommend this excellent and intimate restaurant. The location is excellent-convenient but still tucked in a quiet area. We were having a bit of trouble deciding on our entree. Our server Ozana’s recommendations were outstanding. The food was excellent, perfectly cooked and so very flavorful. The hash browned potatoes were phenomenal! This is not something I would normally order, but Ozana’s recommendations were spot-on and I’m so glad we ordered following her suggestions! When it came to dessert, we just asked her to bring us her choice of dessert. The apple rings with cinnamon/sugar and creme anglaise were to die for. Again, perfect recommendation. The entire dining experience was perfect!
Came by for lunch on our first day in Chur. I tried the pizzocheri and a cocktail, which were both delicious. My family enjoyed their sausage/rosti plate and the asparagus soup special. We sat outside, and it wasn't busy at the time. The waitress was friendly, though it took a little while to get our check.

Me family and I walked up the hill to the restaurant for lunch. It wasn't too steep and worth the views at the top.
We decided to try the Austrian specialties - the dumplings. We were not sure what to expect, and they were huge! The plates were super hearty and heavy on the ham/bacon. We could not finish and unfortunately had no fridge in our room to take leftovers. Probably should have stuck to one dumpling rather than 2, but I wanted to try a couple different types.
The server was really nice and helped us find the nearby park to walk off our meal.

The building of the hotel feels a bit old, but they have great view.
The restaurant is also not bad. You have to try to stay in here when you come to swiss. The view of Alps mountain is really amazing during nights and mornings.

We went to Chur on a long May weekend. The restaurant quickly filled up and atmosphere was nice. We were taken care of with a few slips and longer waits, but all in all good experience.
The food was really tasty. I ordered hummus with chicken and that was exactly what i needed, a healthy fullfilling dish. My partner ordered a bao bun with katsu chicken and that was a really good choice too. Simple and flavourfull. Lemonade was also great, because not too sweet, refreshing.
Passing by Chur in early October. Stopped by for some Asian flavored food. We had a beef ramen, a Thai curry with chicken katsu, and a stir-fried ramen with plant chicken. The overall flavor and texture of the food are good, but they are too salty for my taste.
Close to the train station is a plus for travelers.
