Museum
Museum Gardens, located around the Yorkshire Museum, offer a blend of history and natural beauty. The museum itself houses collections covering archaeology, biology, astronomy, and geology with artifacts from the Viking and Roman periods. It also hosts workshops for children and community programs for adults. The botanical gardens boast a variety of trees, bulbs, and shrubs perfect for scenic walks or peaceful retreats.
Gorgeous, peaceful, tranquil and overall calming gardens open for free to the public with plenty of benches, bins, floral areas, walks and places to stop. Outside of the York Museum, it still has the original walls and parts of an old historic building, clearly well looked after and treasured. I found my visit here very nice, it’s a great place to take photos and get outside, away from the bustle of the town.

I absolutely love Museum Gardens, it's so relaxing. A perfect place for a walk, and to explore in York. I went to see the ghost displays there, and it was brilliant! I highly recommend, and the gardens never disappoint. Some very hungry squirrels, to be aware of 🐿🤣
Lee L — Google review
A really lovely place! The ground are a great place to spend a few hours with a picnic in the sun. While we visited there was the Eboracum festival which was fantastic! The museum itself it great and filled with info. The ticket can be used across multiple days - however, when I asked staff members they said I could use it the following day. The next day, the museum was closed so we felt a bit disappointed (kind of out fault for not checking closed days, but also expect staff would say it was closed too).
John C — Google review
Visited to enjoy the current light show event, and we weren't disappointed! It was great to see the gardens after dark, especially with the ghosts still haunting the area. It was all very atmospheric and eerie... perfect on the run up to Halloween! The light show is self guided as you walk between areas. Each area has a different theme. My favourite was on the St Mary's Abbey ruins. The colours and sounds for each area were vibrant and atmospheric - very well done and immersive. The event was very quiet when attended, which was great to see everything. Well worth the ticket price.
Jessica W — Google review
We had a fantastic time with the kids at Echoes of Yorkshire last night. It was really well organised, and we had so much fun enjoying the music and light projections. It was wonderful to see the public space come alive on such a beautiful autumn evening, with the added surprise of spotting some ‘ghosts’ of 2025!
Winnifred W — Google review
An oasis of green space within the bustling city centre next to the riverside. Set in and around the ruins of an Abbey. A gentle and interesting stroll with access to an original saxon gate entrance to city walls.
Terry W — Google review
The Echoes of Yorkshire illuminations are good but expensive. I am unconvinced that it is value for money but they are eye-catching and accompanied with suitable music. The gardens are beautiful regardless.

An amazing free day out. These gardens are tranquil and beautiful. Visit before 2nd November to see the ghosts in the gardens!

Antique store
The Antiques Centre York is a hidden gem located on the historic Stonegate, offering five storeys of treasures from over 100 dealers across the country. Housed in a Georgian townhouse, this centre showcases a diverse range of antiques and vintage items, spanning from Roman artifacts to Art Deco pieces. Visitors can explore showrooms filled with unique finds such as jewelry, coins, pottery, and toys while enjoying the charming atmosphere.
My name is cassie. I came in with my mum for a locket and wendy came straight to the rescue to help us find the locket. She then helped me find a new engagement ring for the day time, as I have had issues with a stone being lost, on my opal engagement ring. Wendy and the staff are totally amazing!! They go over and above what they should or need to do for customers. They are friendly and smiley. They are helpful and there is so so much knowledge that they have. The amount of stock that they have is amazing and there is a vast range of prices for all budgets. An amazing shop in the centre of the York.

So pleased I found this place. Was pleased to find things like postcards from times gone by, I picked up the 1908 London exhibition ones, and a Diana/Charles stamped envelope. The 1984 fa cup final programme means alot as the 1st final I remember and was glued to.

I had the great pleasure in meeting Wendy at the Antique Centre in Stonegate York today, she was so kind and helpful in helping me choose a ring for my wedding anniversary. How lovely to feel so relaxed in making my purchase, nothing was too much trouble, she didn’t rush me and we had a good chat along the way. Thank you Wendy it had not been the best of years for me but you made me feel happy and confident and my husband was thrilled with my choice. The camaraderie in the Antique Centre is palpable what a special shopping experience all round!👍😁

Just want to say the hidden gem the lovely cafe in the shop on the back of first floor. We had a cream tea for two only less than 13 quid. It’s delicious and also valued for money. It’s also quiet, away from busy York streets. Also lovely staff.

Went here twice as was amazing shop with lots to see. They are extremely organised and have a great ticket system with the cabinets that allow you to look at a few things. Lovely Alistair help point out a cafe upstairs so you can have a cup of tea after a lot of browsing. Daisy was amazing. Extremely friendly and helped everyone. She didn't rush you and took the time to assist you and get to know you. We will be back here next year!

Beautiful shop so we'll laid out. Wendy our sales advisor was amazing she helped us to find a wedding band to go with the engagement ring we'd chosen. Wendy really took her time to help me and also contacted the dealers to see if she could get us a better price!! Walked away with two beautiful rings. Thank you so much Wendy ❤️

Thrift store
Sue Ryder is a charity-run store that sells donated goods. This includes furniture, books, and clothing. The store is just around the corner from York Minster and has a second floor with many vintage treasures to be discovered.
Sue Ryder gets 5 stars! Clean +tidy, vinyl + vintage is upstairs ✌️😉

We found the manager in this York store unhelpful and unpleasant to deal with. We were looking at coats and asked a shop assistant to find out the price of one because the label had come off. All the other coats were very similar prices and were also in better condition, but we expected to pay the same for ours which is fine. The assistant came back and told us the price that the manager had decided the coat should be from her office, this was massively overpriced compared to all the other coats. We had in the meantime found the missing price label under the rail on the floor where the coat had been hanging and it said on it VC (vintage coat) all the other coats still had their labels attached and the price on the label from the floor was similar to the prices of the other coats, so it was obviously the correct label for ours. We asked the shop assistant to explain this to the manager and the manager came out, we asked her to look at the prices of all the other coats and clarify they all had their labels on, were all of similar price and we had found the missing price tag. She was not interested, abrupt and rude saying that she didn't need to check this and the coat was that price and that was it. She lost the charity money that day. I love charity shops but will not be ripped off by a shop manager who cant be bothered to deal with something. Customer service is terrible and puts you off going back in.
Louise G — Google review
Good. Vintage section upstairs. Ok prices for vintage but expensive for a charity shop. I bought a lovely vintage dress. Nice customer service
Abbie A — Google review
Had a terrible experience in this store today after using the store for years and years, I explained that I had spent 20 on aboard game that was incomplete and was really disappointed, they did howver have another one so I asked the manager if she could do anything on the price as they had had it along time and I wished to complete the previous one I had bought. The manager then tried to accuse me of not buying the other one there and said there is nothing she is willing to do, I found this very rude and completely against great customer service which I am a shop manager myself and would never treat anyone like that. Left the store feeling really hurt. I would not expect this kinda of service. I will be following this up with a complaint to head office as I do not believe managers should act in this way .

Historical landmark
Richmond Castle, located in Richmond, North Yorkshire, is a well-preserved early Norman castle offering commanding views over the River Swale and the Yorkshire Dales. The castle features a secluded 'cockpit' garden with modern borders that burst into color during summer and autumn. Visitors can explore its extensive ruins and interactive history exhibition to learn about centuries of military, political, religious, and social turbulence.
Great views fro. The Richmond Castle over town and surrounding areas. We had an English Heritage pass so no additional charge ... Nice little shop with selection of ice creams and some local gin too.
Kinga L — Google review
Partially ruined castle with the keep still standing and accessible giving fantastic views over the surrounding countryside There is a large grassy areas inside the walls suitable for games and picnic. One dide of the castle ends in a steep drop and isn't adequately fenced off so keep an eye on children There is also a small exhibition room just off the entrance charting the history of the castle and its inhabitants which is quite interesting

Great day at Richmond Castle again. Norman re-enactment group, in place over this weekend. Very good showing different types of Armour and weapons of that time. Shields, maces and of course swords. Stalls talking about the found options at the time with taste options, cheese cake very nice, but not like modern cheese cake. Another stall concentrated on the types of medicines at the time, more options than you might think, very informative. All in all a great day thanks
Paul H — Google review
Great place for the whole family to visit. For those not so fit, the grounds are lovely to stroll round, letting you walk through history, with plenty of information available and places to sit down to take in the views. If you have good shoes on, the inside of the castle is very worth the climb! Each set of steps takes you to a new room, level and adventure. You can imagine yourself hauling water up as a servant or wafting round the halls like a lord or lady. Once at the top, the views are stunning, make sure you have your camera!
Joanne S — Google review
Today me and Star had a great time at Richmond Castle exploring all the brickwork and completing the folklore trail too. We had such great first time visit in celebrating Stars pre-3rd birthday, we used our English Heritage membership to get in for free. We also had a look round the Richmond town too. Star loved the open field area and the garden they had too in the castle.
Matthew T — Google review
Nice castle with good views and picnic areas. Parking is limited in the nearby town. Castle is in the centre of Ripon so we had a walk around the town as well on our visit.
James G — Google review
Great castle with a large courtyard, sturdy keep and excellent views over the attractive town of Richmond and surrounding countryside. The site is managed well by English Heritage, with an exhibition covering the castle's history and the roles of local people during WW1. Other facilities include a gift shop and toilets. Information boards around the site explain more about the castle's history. The Cockpit Garden is an interesting feature, with lovely floral borders. The castle is very close to the centre of Richmond, though on weekends it can be tricky to find parking nearby so it's best to arrive early. Tickets seemed reasonable value at £9.00 per adult when I visited (it's worth booking in advance, as on the day prices are slightly higher). Up to date opening times are on the website. If you've got time, it's worth crossing the bridge and walking up the hill on the opposite side of the river for a great view of the castle.

Flea & Street Markets
Richmond Market is a charming marketplace with a variety of stalls offering unique and original items. It provides toilet facilities and light refreshments, making it convenient for visitors. The market also features book, charity stalls, and tourist information services, which are highly recommended. However, parking in town is limited to a maximum of 2 hours. The market operates on Saturday and Wednesday with an indoor section available every day except Thursday for non-food items.
Great market right in the centre of town. Great place to pick up some awesome cheese, delicious chutneys and beautiful local honey.
JonBoy — Google review
Enjoyed browsing around this bustling Saturday market (there's also a smaller market here on Wednesdays). Lots of food stalls, including some good quality fruit and veg, cheese, confectionery and a van where you could get oak smoked fish and seafood. There were also flowers and plants, some nice clothing and crafts. Very friendly people, especially the lady who helped me with directions to the Castle Walk! The cobbled marketplace is surrounded by beautiful historic buildings, including the Town Hall, the Victorian Market Hall, and the 12th century Holy Trinity Church which is now a museum dedicated to the Green Howards Yorkshire Regiment. Plenty of shops and cafes around the square too. There's free parking (short stay up to 2 hours), and some decent toilets inside the Market Hall.
Valerie H — Google review
Well it was busy and I mean rammed but we did visit at Easter ! Situated in the Market Place its on a big slope but there are lots of resting places either in/out door cafes and pubs. It's a decent Market with plenty of stalls or the Castle just off the Market Place is another attraction. Plan ahead on occasions like Easter because the car parks get full. I parked in the Fosse car park (see photo) Note from here its a steep walk up to the Market Place. Overall a beautiful place to visit and there are plenty of individual shops just off the Market too.
Gary R — Google review
Really nice market town with plenty of shops and cafes all within a fantastic market place which is litter free....wonderful...
Bob H — Google review
Outdoor Not open even though the Web site says it is on a wendsday. And the indoor market three quarters empty and the stalls that are there are selling the usual Chinese imported junk and poor laser engraved tatt, not worth the hassle of trying to find one of the three available disabled parking slots in the whole town. And being Yorkshire and a wendsday everything closes in the afternoon, I live in Yorkshire and this not opening Mondays and half day wendsday is a joke, I'm a local buiseness owner in pontifract and am amazed at this archaic practice. I'm sure it's great if you catch it on the odd day when things are open. And a note to the council given the average age of the visitors a few more disabled parking spaces would be nice. It took me forty minutes to struggle to the closed outdoor market! Not impressed come on Yorkshire we can do better than this.
Paul W — Google review
Lovely Indoor Market with Cafe, the War Museum and Staff are helpful. There are other outside shops to look around. Would recommend to Family and Friends.
Christine — Google review
When I visited, it was definitely a market of 2 parts. One side was predominantly food based, fruit, veg and fish with a Barista on one corner and an ice cream seller tucked away amongst them and a couple of craft stalls. The other side was a mix of crafts and food stalls. It wasn't too busy despite the weather being good.

The Green Howards Museum is a fascinating destination located in the heart of Richmond, showcasing the history of the notorious British Army regiment through exhibits, artifacts, and personal items. The museum offers a well-stocked gift shop and features interactive displays to engage visitors of all ages. Visitors can explore the museum's three floors with access provided by a lift. Additionally, there are friendly and helpful staff members available to enhance the overall experience.

Really the very best museum I have ever visited. The exhibits were incredible and very well labelled. The stories of the soldiers were detailed and extremely interesting. This was my first visit but hope it won't be my last.
Anne S — Google review
A little pricey for tourists, worth the money if you are interested in this history and you can return for free all year (as tourists, it's unlikely we will) my daughter enjoyed the interactive displays and the workbook we were given. Her magnet sits proudly on display on our fridge.
Alice I — Google review
Great place to take the kids to show them the history of the Green Howards. The museum has been through a massive refit since my last visit and I was massively surprised by the outstanding quality. There is so much on display and you'll need a bit of time set aside if you want to see it all.

Super Regimental Museum right in the Market Place at Richmond. £5 entrance fee. Over 3 floors (there's a lift) tracing the Green Howard's Regiment from "The Scarlet To Khaki" Very interesting museum which details all the areas of war and conflict the regiment has served. There's a medal room featuring an impressive number of medals and honours especially the Victoria Cross Wall. There's the Regimental Dinning Room (The Normandy Room) showcasing the Regimental Silver. Thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours while the wife was shopping.
Andrew H — Google review
This is a little gem of a museum, situated at the heart of the market place and well worth the £5 adult admission price. A lift gives access to all 3 floors and there is a well stocked gift shop. The exhibits are very impressive and the story of the Green Howards is simply explained but rich in detail. There are interactive features throughout to help keep children engaged. Other commitments limited our time here to an hour and we barely scratched the surface of all the information on display. Allow at least 2 hours if you want to do justice to this excellent museum.

The Richmond Obelisk, located in the Market Place, is a prominent feature that replaced the Market Cross in 1771. It stands tall and pointy, made of stone, serving as a focal point in the center of Richmond. The obelisk has historical significance as it was built on top of a water reservoir with a capacity of 12,000 gallons that supplied water to various parts of the town through pipes.
Impressive stone obelisk towering over Richmond's attractive market square, constructed in 1771 to replace an earlier market cross. The obelisk is a distinctive feature of Richmond and a popular meeting point on market days, with plenty of parking close by. Popular tourist spots including the castle are only a short walk away.
Andrew T — Google review
This 59ft (18m) high stone obelisk dominates Richmond's beautiful historic marketplace. It was built in 1771 when it replaced the old medieval market cross. The steps around it are a popular meeting place and lunch spot. On the busy market day that I was here, there was also a barista and café tables right next to the obelisk. A good opportunity to enjoy a coffee and observe the everyday life of the market square.
Valerie H — Google review
Fantastic obelisk right in the town square.

As obelisks go this is a classic. Tall, pointy, made of stone, purpose uncertain. Commanding the centre of Richmond this monument provides a focal point and unmistakable, er, big thing. Beautiful.

Lorna D — Google review
Mainly reviewing Richmond as a whole... Beautiful little town, the Obelisk is in the main centre and it was all decorated for Christmas still while we were there, plenty to see and do and lots of cute shops and boutiques around. The castle is amazing and apparently has lots on throughout the year. We were unfortunate to be there on a day nothing was happening, but it was still a stunning castle to see and take a walk around. The waterfalls beneath the castle is well worth a quick nip down to have a look at, with a park alongside the river beside them too. The station cafe just over the river at the bottom of the hill beneath the town is a lovely spot for a bite to eat. You can buy local produce from the cute little shops, take in some art in their small balcony gallery or even watch a film at one of the two cinema screens too. Check it out if you can. Lastly, we visited the Abbey ruins just down the old railway walk. Fantastic place to have an explore around the old buildings. Kids will love all the passageways and hiding places. Richmond is a brilliant place to visit for a look around and take in the local history and beauty.

French restaurant
Bar
Rustique Restaurant in Richmond offers a delightful dining experience with its classic French dishes served in a charming setting. The restaurant's interior, designed to resemble a Parisian street complete with street lamps and views of the Eiffel Tower, creates an inviting atmosphere for patrons. Rustique prides itself on traditional recipes using locally sourced produce, elevating the flavors of their Mediterranean-inspired menu.
We had a very enjoyable meal last night and it’s set in an atrium like place that has the real feel of a Parisian covered bistro which immediately added a great feel. The food was excellent (top notch beef bourguignon) and the service impeccable and all at a reasonable price (£22.50 for the two course menu). Highly recommended

WOW! so glad we tried this place, its almost hidden away, located at the rear of Chantry Wynd, and it almost looked closed when we first visited, but trust me - its open! It’s all indoor seating, however, it’s been very tastefully decorated to look like you are sitting outdoors in the streets of Paris! which makes the atmosphere lovely, and its also very Dog Friendly! The Set Menu is extremely good value for money & the food quality is outstanding, the portions are also huge! The Beef Bourguignon, Pan Fried Mushrooms & the Mussels in White Wine Cream were personal favourites of ours, although we enjoyed everything we tried & everything was cooked to perfection! I cannot rate this place highly enough! we liked it so much, we went back twice in the same week! 😅 merci beaucoup!

The food was delicious. The staff very friendly and professional. Service was spot on and the surroundings and ambience perfect for any occasion.

Food was so delicious! Their set menu is very good value for money, totally recommend it. I had the confit duck with dauphinoise potatoes for main and creme brulee for dessert. Everything was full of flavour and well prepared. Good wine selection and great service.

An absolutely fantastic place to eat. Great look as you walk in. Very polite staff and not rushed to order. The food is mouthwaterinly good. It's pricey but when you have great surroundings and the food is out of this world it's very much worth the cost. I would highly recommend

Fantastic place! Small France. The food was delicious . Highly recommend to visit!

First time at this restaurant, we have been wanting to try for a while now. Needless to say we were not disappointed. The restaurant itself is very atmospheric and welcoming. Excellent choices on set, a la carte and specials menus. Noah, our server was top drawer, very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely be returning. Ease of parking in market square.

This is a hidden delight. Saw their restaurant board outside & checked it out the restaurant setting is really lovely.

Barkers Of Richmond

Restaurant
Barkers of Richmond is a conveniently located restaurant in the town square of Richmond, known for its average fish and chips by Yorkshire standards. The establishment offers both takeaway and sit-in options, with tables on the second floor that provide air conditioning. Customers can enjoy their regular order of fish and chips along with a complimentary dessert. However, visitors should be cautious about parking in the town square without purchasing a disc as it may result in a costly parking ticket.
Lunch time special was a great deal, £6 for small fish, chips and peas. Plenty to satisfy us and service was very friendly, would definitely recommend. Amazing value! Benches near the church to sit and eat in the sunshine, fab!

Just had standard fish and chips , £9.90 takeaway. Wow they were amazing, best I’ve had in a long time. Hot and very tasty. Lovely thick fish and perfectly cooked.
Helen O — Google review
Wow , Proper Yorkshire Fish and Chips. Everything was freshly cooked. The batter on my fish was so crispy. The best I’ve tasted in a long time. In a lovely market town . Well worth a visit. £6.95 for a really good value meal.

first time visiting Richmond, now reading some of these reviews have shocked me. we came here for fish and chips and we was stunned! not only was the price cheap for fish & chips but the items included (fish & chips, bread & butter, tea or coffee and a pudding) would cost a fortune on its own in some fish shops. we ordered a large and couldn’t understand why people was ordering the small/standard but as soon as our food came out we could understand why😂. the fish was chunky and red hot, the curry sauce I wasn’t too keen on & the chips were a little bit cold. (I couldn’t eat all mine anyways.) but the pudding & service made the meal amazing anyways. I absolutely enjoyed what I could and would definitely visit again. (EDIT forgot to add photos and my family laughed and said it would of fed 4 of us)

Yeah, not the best experience unfortunately, didn’t really expect a sarcastic response when asked how big the fish was. The fella who served us was rude and we felt like we were interrupting his afternoon by being there. Touching almost 30 quid for two portions of fish and chips I expected a lot more (one regular and one small). The food tasted like what you’d expect at Wetherspoons, bland and boring. Avoid this place!

Well, the Google listing for my intended destination being completely wrong I asked a passing local and I was directed across the street to Barkers. Top advice. I ate upstairs in the restaurant - after a long day in the hills I needed a sit down. Proper Northern fish & chips experience - standard size fish, chips, mushy peas, bread & butter and a pot of tea. Served accompanied with authentic Yorkshire ironic dry wit (something another reviewer clearly misinterpreted but I welcomed). Total traditional experience at a good price. You'll not get this sort of thing in "your London".

My husband and I visited Richmond a week ago. Inside this chippy was tiny but we wanted to sit by the church with a takeaway. Although the que was really long I joined it. The wait wasn't too long because it seemed to be a great team behind the counter. We had the biggest and tastiest regular portion of fish and chips ever. Best fish and chips I've ever had.
AJ W — Google review
Excellent fish and chips great value and service, brillant deals on kids and large fish and chip meals (including sides, drinks and homemade desserts). Proper authentic Yorkshire food, would certainly visit again!

Restaurant
Morro Lounge is a delightful new addition to the dining scene in Richmond. The food is delectable, offering a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan options. The wine selection is also impressive. The service is consistently fast and incredibly friendly. Dining in the back garden on a sunny afternoon while enjoying tapas and wine is pure bliss. On the other hand, Morro Lounge also serves as a convenient spot for a quick bite to eat while passing through town.
Lovely restaurant and lovely staff. We sat in the ‘secret garden’ with our two dogs and had a delicious meal. Only downside was being swarmed by wasps 🙈but that’s summertime for you. I can recommend the chicken, bacon and avocado salad, the cocktails and the tapas. Well worth a visit although we found it pricey, the food was good and the service was excellent so it was justified.
Dayna M — Google review
Amazing find, we ordered a Buddha Bowl salad, which was exceptional, and taps comprising of Korean Prawns, Cheddar/Sweetvorn fritters and black bean quesadillas. Apparently chicken is halal too. Will be back again to try other dishes!

What a lovely place, once a bank, this historic building is gorgeous inside with wonderful decor. Lovely staff, nice atmosphere and lovely food too.
Rob A — Google review
Very nice place. I like the different meals from the Lounge group. We didn’t know that we have to order at the bar. Our table had no sign. Staff seems first a bit stressed but were very kind later. Avocado brunch was very delicious but could have a second bread.
Eb G — Google review
We've been to a few Lounges around the Country now and they tend to be in nice, often 'repurposed' old buildings (banks etc.), so have some charm or grandeur to them. There's never a wait for tables and ordering is simple on-line, but the staff will take orders if preferred. Food & drinks are always quickly served and good value for a decent range to suit most tastes.
Keith R — Google review
Always reliable good food at reasonable prices & excellent coffee. They are a chain but each one has v different atmosphere, due to amazing themed decor. Gluten free options, in fact all allergies, brilliantly catered for, many other establishments could learn from them.
Pat J — Google review
We stopped in here for a drink with my family after my partner and I recently got engaged and the staff were so lovely in congratulating us, they went out their way to get us flowers and prosecco along with a Polaroid picture card! Never been anywhere that’s been so kind and attentive like this. We will absolutely be returning for food in the future soon as it looked incredible what we could see coming out! Service and staff were all lovely. Thanks again so much you made our time there with my family feel special! ❤️

Loved it in here. Very large lounge, with good atmosphere. Haven't eaten here in Richmond, but have eaten in Ontano, Northallerton, which is similar and the food is good. Staff were lovely.

Chinese restaurant
This chinese restaurant is popular for its eastern-style fans and prints adorning the relaxed atmosphere. The food is cooked in about 15 minutes, and it's fresh, hot and delicious. There's plenty to share between two people, and the prawn crackers are a nice touch. It's centrally located with parking outside.
Smaller than I was expecting however that doesn't take away from its charm. They were busy but didn't wait long for table or food. Food was amazing won ton soup. Ohh my goodness amazing. Great staff place glistening clean. Relaxed night in an intimate little place lovely friendly atmosphere. Staff helpful and attentive. Great place for anniversary dinner. Definitely would go again.
Karen C — Google review
Our first visit to the New Treasure Garden. A lovely experience. The friendly welcome and efficient service were excellent. Good and varied Cantonese menu. We were delighted with our choices, beautifully cooked and presented, all really tasty. Only shame was we couldn't finish it all as we had theater tickets and had to leave. Will not make that mistake again and will ensure have plenty of time to finish the abundance of food presented. Will now become regular visitors to the restaurant. Thank you for the fabulous experience.

We came in for a take away but the staff were very attentive and helpful front of house. I personally thought it was very expensive for a take away consisting of 2 x soup, a quarter duck with pancakes and a house special satay with chips at £32.80, back in Durham the exact same meal costs me £19-£20 max (and it is correct and edible) The main issue I had though was with the House Special Satay, I have ordered this dish up and down the UK and never had an issue but this was horrendous! Firstly it wasn’t even on the menu, no problem I was assured, (my Brother had the same issue with ordering a Chop Suey) but he was cagey about the price with it not being on the menu. Now, here is the main issue, EVERY house special dish I have ever ordered contains beef, char su, chicken and prawns, not this one, when we unpacked the meal back at home instead of the standard size carton this was a half size carton and can only be described as 2-3 table spoons of a very non-descript sauce a green pepper (chopped into large pieces) and 9 or 10 small slices of unrecognisable meat (I suspect it was char su but without any “spice colouring”, it was so over cooked I couldn’t bite through it and was absolutely and completely devoid of any flavour whatsoever. Lessen, if you don’t sell a dish don’t try to wing it, especially charging very high prices for half portions to a person who is very knowledgeable about the food industry and standards. I consider this a shameless fraud which has started our badly needed rest weekend off in poor fashion. I really am furious, and haven’t yet decided what further action to take. My message to other diners, eat here if you wish but be wary and keep a tag on the bill if you order anything even slightly “off piste”
Ray F — Google review
Poor service shortstaffed. Had a poor meal 18 months ago and thought I’d try again. Nothing has improved such a shame as previous owners built up a great business. The soup was over salted, the meat was tough and the duck was overcooked and dry. The Satay sauce was home-made and didn’t taste of peanuts. The poor waitresses were run off their feet trying to keep up they did their best but were obviously struggling with a full restaurant ..
Mary P — Google review
Limited places to eat here so we decided to order a takeaway. We got a 10% discount from their restaurant prices. The food was cooked in about 15 minutes. The food was hot and fresh, and delicious! Plenty to share between us. Also received a bag of prawn crackers to go with our food! Really enjoyed the meal! The restaurant is centrally located with parking outside.
Elisa W — Google review
We had a fantastic takeaway from here last night, bonus points for being the only Chinese takeaway in the town open on a Monday. it was great that we could order and pay through their website as we didn't have a menu or cash to hand. All 4 of us ordered different things and we were all really happy with our dishes. Great flavour and great quality food. I would definitely get takeaway from here again.
T C — Google review
Stopped here for a take away whilst on holiday in the area. The food was really tasty and well priced. Ordered over the phone with no issues. Would go back and recommend. Parking outside is tight but it is very close to the town square where you can park in the evening, day time is permit only.
John C — Google review
If I could give a zero I would, this is the worst Chinese food I have ever had, absolutely disgusting. It seems to have been old food that has been left for days and re heated, the ribs were rock hard and dry, the chicken balls we covered in an old soggy batter and covered in crust of thick salt, the food was was not edible. I would avoid this place at all costs. I called to complain and the lady on the phone was polite but just said she’d let the manager know. I would also like to add the pictures shown on the reviews are nothing like the food that was delivered I’m not sure if most of these reviews are fake.
