Kronborg Castle is one of the most impressive and atmospheric places I visited in Denmark. Overlooking the Øresund Strait, this UNESCO World Heritage site is not only visually stunning, but also packed with history and character. Known worldwide as “Hamlet’s Castle,” it fully lives up to its fame. The rooms and royal chambers are beautifully preserved, giving you a real sense of the grandeur of the Danish monarchy in the Renaissance era. But the highlight for me was exploring the dark, eerie casemates — the old military barracks beneath the castle. Walking through those damp, stone tunnels really brings the past to life. You can almost feel the presence of the soldiers who once took shelter there. And then there's Holger Danske, the legendary statue deep in the basement. According to Danish folklore, this mythical warrior sleeps under Kronborg Castle and will rise to defend Denmark in her time of need. Seeing the statue in the dim light down there added a magical, almost mythological touch to the whole experience. If you're into history, legends, or just want to explore a magnificent fortress with great views and an unforgettable atmosphere, Kronborg is absolutely worth the visit. Take your time — there’s a lot to discover.

Learned a lot about Danish history at Kronborg Castle — magnificent architecture and rich stories of kings and battles. The tower visit is absolutely worthwhile, offering stunning views over Helsingør and across to Sweden. A must-see for anyone interested in history, culture, and royal heritage.

What an experience! One of the most interesting castle I have ever visited. There many things to see during your visit there make sure to be on time so you don't miss anything. The underneath area was very spooky and adventurous!

One of the older castles in Denmark, immortalized by Shakespeare in "Hamlet", this is definitely a "must see" destination. Climb the tower (145 steps) for a fantastic view. Or visit the casement to check out the underground parts of the castle complex. You can visit for free if you have a Copenhagen card, provided you utilise the RE trains.

Beautiful town and a easy to navigate and walk around Castle. Truly a part of Denmark’s History that is been maintained to keep for future generations to enjoy, learn and wonder of the past.

Really amazing visit. Would recommend making this a stop if you are in Denmark or Sweden. We took the ferry from Helsingborg Sweden,and it took no more than 20 minutes and was not expensive. Cafe and bars on the ferry. Plenty of time to see the town and the castle doing a day trip from Sweden. Beautiful place that feels grand but also authentic and lived in. The staff we spoke with had great insight and answered all of our questions about Kronborg. I would recommend putting this historical and culturaly significant place on your itinerary!

A magical place full of history! Kronborg Castle is truly impressive - elegant, mysterious, and full of stories. The view of the sea is breathtaking, and it's easy to imagine Shakespeare's Hamlet walking through the halls. Beautiful architecture, calm atmosphere, and great exhibitions. Just make sure to dress warmly - it can be quite windy there, even in spring!

Worth a trip to Denmark! It’s not only worth a detour to finish your Copenhagen pass, it could be the cornerstone of your entire trip; according to the Michelin rating, it’s the top note! The museum is set in a dry dock, adorning an incredible architecture. Very kids friendly, with a huge playing area that also instructs, it offers a story within the story with a clandestine mouse that the kids have to hunt for. As for the adults, the museum is multifaceted, showing history, WWII, the influence of shipping, but also stunning models and a mesmerizing photo exhibit of sunk boats and their treasures. Tank to the team, always smiling as they provide answers to the most obscure questions, and the generous donators that made this museum possible. The shop offers quality products designed or made in Denmark. If the cafe is closed, there is a huge indoor food trucks area nearby! There’s more than Hamlet in Helsingør!

It was our second visit to the museum, which underwent an excellent renovation during the winter of 2024–spring 2025. We continue to love the place, as do our kids. It’s a spot where you can learn a great deal about Denmark’s maritime history and spend hours admiring the many boat models. We highly recommend a visit and suggest planning to spend 2–3 hours there.

Lovely museum, explaining the history of Danish sea travels, life and lost lives at sea and much more. Beautifully displayet all over the museum.

Impressive museum with a great shop selling quality merchandise. Well laid out with a qualiat the half way point. Every section of every hall has interesting artefacts, with everything fully explained on Dutch and English. Including the fractured skull of a sailor who fell from the mast of a tall ship.

This museum is so much fun, it deserves all 5/5 stars. Not 4.5, not 4.7, but a proper 5. The effect the museum had on us is that our new dreamjob is to design museums about on the surface boring subjects. Making ships this interesting, quite the accomplishment. It was very interactive, we learned a lot and we loved finding the hidden mice 🐭 (and we're grownups!) Discovered this museum thanks to the CPH card, and would recommend anyone to make a stop here, along with the castle right next to it. Great stuff!

Really impressive. I was rather amazed by this building and concept for a rather small town. All small and larger cities should have such a inclusive space. It is amazing to see young and old together in a piece of perfect architecture

We visited the cafe and had a great cinnamon roll, some thing like a porridge and good coffee. The view to the harbor is nice and the architecture ist great.

Great place to chill with a book, enjoy the view of the harbor and Kronborg, enjoy a meal inside or outside. Also a major concert venue attracting international names. Sunday brunch is spot on, very cozy and often has live music.

This library is worth a visit just to see the innovative architecture. The building used to be part of the old shipyard. The conversion to a library included adding a glass skeleton on the outside and cleverly adapting the inside. Don’t miss going to the reading room on the 2nd or 3rd floor. From there you have a fantastic view of the harbor and Kronborg Castle .

Very nice place to stop by and have a bite and something to drink. The Roastbeef Smørrebrød was tasty as were our desserts and the staff was extremely friendly. Prices are okay. You can sit outside, bask in the sun and have a nice view at the Kronborg. Great place for a break.

This place has great coffee BUT for takeaway coffee they add 3 dk for the takeaway cup which you won’t find out about until the coffee is made. The reason is all the global warming crap. It means it’s 40dk for a cortado to stay, then they have to wash and clean all the cups, so much for global warming, and a takeaway is 43dk. It makes no sense! It’s a free tip, no takeaway cup cost 3dk to make, and unnecessary. I’ll not be back or order to stay. Because we care, rubbish! You pay not them

I was into fish and chips however during my walking around I found this place. The place was nice as you can see the sea but the food was very basic. The fries and fish came cold. I could not eat all the fries as it by time it goes solid. So i am a-bit disappointed.

Great city, architecture and attractions! The worst eating experience ever in this restaurant. Unfortunately, all the tables in the foodmarket were busy and we decided to eat here... the "smorebrods" were not tasty and not fresh. The choice close to 5pm was very poor.

Been at Francophile a few times and never disappointed. Unpretentious food, obviously French inspired. They do 3 X 3 menu with incredibly low prices on Wednesday/Thursday. Great ambience and views of Oresund and Sweden.

An excellent venue, with outside and inside tables (we had drinks outside but dined in due to weather) and with an atmosphere made from great surroundings (very French bistro) and fantastic staff - a very delightful evening to remember. Not the cheapest, but one of those evenings you remember for all the good reasons! Superb!

Have been here several times, always food with affordable 3 course meal (approx 325 kr). And you get full! I would compare it to Madklubben in Copenhagen.

Mediocre food at best, I had some chicken with soggy skin and boring sides, service was all over the place, with waiters unable to pronounce the French food they were serving (hilarious for a place with such a name).

Very beautiful view and you can enjoy good time. Food is ok ! Fish — they added sea salt on crispy skin. It makes the taste good Octopus — it is so so as not much taste in itself without sauces Staffs are cheerful !

Beer was great but the food was somewhat disappointing. Big portion, but salad is not so fresh and our shrimp and squid tasted & looked like store-bought frozen seafood rather than fresh from the sea. Next time we will have just beer.

Really good food. Traditional danish dishes, I loved it. The interesting thing is that I thought I would have been heavy as it is fried and full of cream. But it was not! As all the ingredients are fresh and good. Totally recommend if you want to eat cheap and good food in Helsingör.

Better than the little mermaid in kopenhagen!

I found out an interesting detail about this chrome statue, who incidentally is the brother of Copenhagen's Little Mermaid... his eyes blink! There's no pattern to this and it might catch you unaware so be careful, because if it makes you jump too far you might end up in the water. I stood and watched but unfortunately it didn't blink for me. It's so peaceful around here, even with a steady stream of visitors, that it's easy just to while away your day.

An unexpected little gem on our way to the castle - a nice photo opportunity in the harbour area. Go and see it if you are passing.

It is an amazing place on the sea, near Kastellet. The little mermaid is very little and taking pictures with it is quite dangerous. Near it there is a huge park where you can walk and meet people from all the world. There is also a big fountain and a park with a statue of Winston Churchill.

Head hight was the same as mine and I almost 180cm tall.

The history of the Church is going back to 1200, the present building was completed in 1559. In 1961, the church was given the status of cathedral in connection with the establishment of the Diocese of Helsingør. You can see a tree in the Church with a red “leaves” with the name of babies born in the current year. The entry is free.

Very nice old brick church. Inside church there is a model of the ship which hangs from the ceiling that is typical for Danish churches. Around the church there are very nice and colorful old houses. Also, from the Kronborg tower observation deck you can see best harbor views of the city and the church is nicely seen from there too.

Cool little side trip just a for the walk to the castle this gorgeous church was empty and quiet when I went. One could not help but be stirred by the stone work on the floor of the church, the pulpit, the icon work and organ all were top notch compared to other churches I saw in Denmark. Go and it will be worth it I promise.

Such beautiful history in an active church building. Locals know and visitors really could enjoy the walk through. There was a historian guide for the monastery section.

We had very nice experience in the Øresund Aquarium. The exhibition shows the local marine life grouped in different aquariums depending on the depth the corresponding species are found. Just after the entrance you will be able to see and touch (!) some of the fish, crabs, anemones, etc. which was unexpected. And the local guide Olivia was key for our good time there. She was always around when we had questions and invited us to watch the fish in two of the aquariums being fed. Tak, Olivia!

Never seen a stingray up close before. I found that really interesting. Also these transparent rainbow jellyfish!!! Just wow!!

We went at a very quiet time so got to be a part of a 1:1 live feeding which was brilliant. Staff are helpful and are ready to answer all questions. It's a great way to see the local marine life. Had an amazing time here.

Fun little aquarium. Was included with the Copenhagen card. Very kid friendly with a very large touch tank. Someone was there to answer all of your questions in English and in Danish. They also had a little excursion over to the harbor for the kids to catch crabs, which my son absolutely enjoyed. Would highly recommend this to anyone with children!

Absolutely visit this aquarium, it’s the highlight of any Helsingør trip. The entire setup is run by marine biologists and students and is aimed mainly at conservation of the biodiversity in the sound. The staff (especially Thea) are SUPER helpful and very informative of the various species they have in the aquarium. They also have two open tanks which contain curious marine life that enjoy being petted. Loved this place, will definitely go back if I could.

Ducked in here to avoid some rain as it was included in the Copenhagen and it turned about to be one of my favourites from my visit to Denmark. I loved that it’s such a small aquarium only displaying aquatic animals from local waters. It’s great for interacting and getting hands on. We stayed for some fish feeding and the talk was great. I wish I had the name of the guy leading it as he was fantastic. He was entertaining and so knowledgeable. He talked to us for ages answering all our questions,I learnt so much.

It is probably the best supermarket in Helsingør. Unfortunately, if you are interested in seafood, the offer is very limited.

All i can say it’s that I constantly have to drive back to this shop to return fruits I buy there…. This time was just the cherry on the cake. I won’t buy any fruits there anymore. I can’t imagine the number of people that get fooled like me. It’s just a shame to not have any control on the quality of your fruits. Here a beautiful example of what they sell. 5 out of 6 peaches were good for garbage.

It is the perfect cafe to have breakfast, meet with friends and have a drink. we were there for breakfast today. The service person was a wonderful young lady. He met all our requests quickly and with a smile. we had a great time. Happy New Year.

Two waitresses on duty. One of them more busy talking to a friend inside, while the other occasionally popped her head outside to check for incoming orders or requests. Very long waiting time even to put our orders in. Foul smell from a nearby drain consumed the outdoor sitting area completely. Constant hassle from birds trying to steal the food you were eating. But the food itself was well cooked.

Lovely steak burger (medium) with fries and amazing garlic sauce. Totally recommend. The food quality was really good and the staff were very friendly and nice but despite we decided to sit inside to be away from cigarettes smokes outside, we still could smell it inside! All in all the experience was good. Check your Visma Logbuy app if tou have for possible discounts.

Thank you for a lovely evening! We celebrated our wedding here and were treated like royalty. Absolutely everything was top! The food… the views… the staff… fantastic

Just before we arrived at the restaurant, a big group of loud and drunk people got in the restaurant. We had already ordered a table days before, but now we were kind of forced to sit outside, as we couldn't hear each other or the waiter. In the end, everyone was sitting outside and the only ones inside was that big group. After we were seated and we ordered, it took about 45 minutes before we got our first dish. The table next to us complained about the time it took to received their food. People next to us started smoking so we asked the waiter if they could stop the people from smoking and they said that we were seated outside so that is allowed, but they would ask their chef. We are still waiting for the waiter to return with an answer or solution. We had ordered the smørrebrød with fiskefilet (100kr) and the hand peeled shrimps (costs 45kr extra and you get around 10 shrimps and a tiny dot of mayo). When it arrived, it turned out to be half a fish filet (you could see it was cut and you only get half of the whole filet) and the shrimps were not cleaned and still had poop/intestines inside. When we said something about that, as we pay a lot extra to get the hand peeled shrimps, the server took my plate to the chef and 10 minutes later got back with the same plate, blaming the company they get the shrimps from (their leverandør), as the restaurant does not peel or clean the shrimps themselves. I basically just had to deal with it! Now my dish was cold. They also did not clean the shrimps. They offered to give us an other dish instead, but we wanted this dish, but then with clean shrimps. Nothing happened, also nothing was taken off of our bill in the end. So we had to clean the shrimps ourselves and pay the full bill. I left the shrimps with the poop aside and did not eat them. Some of the dill on top of the shrimps was withered. After we ordered a second dish, the waiter never asked us if we enjoyed our food, even after we complained about the first dish. The second dish (the salmon smørrebrød) was nice. We have been at this restaurant before and it was absolutely amazing at that time, but after new owner took over, it didn't do the restaurant any good I think. It was not a good experience at all, so we decided to take our dessert and coffee elsewhere. We will not be coming back.

Excellent service and good that'll make you forget your name. Fair warning though, they really don't know how to make a proper Old Fashion. They served it with freshly squeezed orange juice, 3 orange peels, not enough bourbon, and a glass full of ice.

Asked for a table for 2 at 1.40, outside because of dog. All tables empty, inside about half occupied. Waitress: do you have reservations? No, sorry all is booked. In 10 minutes all will be full. Came back 40 min later - still mostly empty tables. Asking for all the people who obviously did not show up. Another waitress: we can’t handle walk ins. Hope the owner pays low salaries, or he is not interested in sales. Found a nice place next door - good food and good service called beer garden, instead.

We went here on Easter Sunday and had a fantastic meal. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting to try traditional Danish food. Friendly staff and good atmosphere.

Over the past 20 years the ”hygge” defenders in Helsingør are dwindling. Københavneren still stands tall. Worth a detour if you’re in the neighborhood.

Had an amazing meal while traveling. Cozy environment. Nice meal for a affordable price. Had big portions of food. We got there around 12 pm so got seat easily, but starting from 1 pm it started getting crowded with people, so recommend to book just in advance.

It's a Danish "seaside" beer garden akin to a dive bar. And it delivers, in spades. This part of Denmark has not changed since the uninvited neighbours to the South left on 5th May 1945 - the people are old, gnarled, talk as if they have 11 lbs of potatoes in their cheeks, and are gruffly incomprehensible. Peak Denmark in fact. Without the peeling thin veneer of sophistication you can see, here and there, in Copenhagen. Amazing contrast to sanitised Helsingborg in Sweden, barely 5 km across the Oresund by ferry. The decor has not altered. The food that they serve is simply stunningly original Danish fare - no concession to heightened sensitivities or health. The beers are great. I just loved it.

Went to Kronborg castle and came across this really nice Danish pub/restraunt on the way back to our hotel, the traditional platter was massive and tasty and the local beer was excellent maybe too good as I thought I had already paid most of the bill and got put right by the lady in charge in the nicest way!

Perfect. Ate in the back garden area. Had the everything plate to share. Get a schnapps and a beer. Can’t do better.

Ordered a pizza through wolt, have never had a pizza that bad. Cheese tasted funky like it had gone off (not the only one who tried either). Had 2 bites and ended up throwing it in the trash. Felt nauseous the next day. Wolt contacted Pakhuset and they decided not to compensate anything (after a day). I will never eat anything from here again and have also deleted Wolt as its service in this situation was horrendous.

The food was insipit and utterly devoid of flavour. Worse still, they try to double charge the customer, only to freign ignorance and give out expired currency as refund when confronted. Greedy, disgusting, appaling, heinous, dismal, abhorrent and wholly unworthy...

A really cozy Italian restaurant located in a courtyard just off the main street. We really liked the atmosphere and the staff is very nice. Both the pizza and pasta (we had various dishes of both types) are good and they had an excellent bottle of Amarone that we enjoyed. I'd recommend a lunch visit any day :)

The food is at best mediocre. The service was beyond bad, we ordered 3 steaks which all came with different options but the waiter couldn’t be bothered to ask what we wanted, we had to call him back several times to make sure we got what we wanted. He still decided what we were given. The shrimp au gratin was basically canned tomato soup that they microwaved and added shrimp. The filet was some tough un-chewable cut of meat, not a filet and took close to an hour to arrive. The only pleasantness was the somewhat cute setting. Cost for 3 lunches with a bottle of house wine $100. Don’t waste your money!

Food: the quality differs a lot. The salads can be a bit bland and lacking in different vegetables, but they aren't bad. The food otherwise is good and you won't go home hungry. They have a wide variety of pizzas but needs a few more dishes besides that. Drinks: good quality and pretty standard. Prices: fair prices. You won't feel cheated. Staff: needs to smile a bit more, but otherwise alright. Interior: nothing has changed in years, but it works. The place is charming.

Dreadful and dull service, exceptionally family-unfriendly with a child seat "adapter" almost falling apart. Restrooms are unsanitary and I am surprised that this restaurant fulfills requirements for health and sanitary control. Would not recommend to my worst enemies.
