Visitors can enjoy strolls along the promenade, take boat trips to nearby attractions, and indulge in beachside activities like evening gymnastics. Nestled in the heart of Chiavari, Gran Caffè Defilla is a delightful spot that perfectly complements your leisurely strolls along the waterfront. This charming café invites you to indulge in refreshing fruit juices or perhaps something with a bit more flair. As you settle in, you'll be captivated by their beautifully presented small plates, which are as much a feast for the eyes as they are for the palate.
We went for a coffe and something sweet. The coffee was good, better than most we’ve drank in Italy. The chocolate croissant was tasty. Our order took a bit to arrive, but the central position and pleasant atmosphere made up for it.

Super nice Location, wonderful food and service. Feels like being at home, super cozy. Great wine and sweets!
Tanja L — Google review
We wanted to get something nice from the cafe, the lady at the counter told us to sit at table and wait. After 30 minutes with no waiter coming to our table I asked the lady at the counter again and she told us to wait for the waiter. After another 10 minutes I tried to talk to the waiter who even didn’t talk to me and mumbled something with shaking the head. We left the cafe with quite a bad feeling. Can I get back my time?!
Jens H — Google review
Sadly, our experience here was rather inhospitable. We first sat in the “no self-service” zone and waited 20 minutes for a waiter. After watching two other customers take their coffee and food out by themselves to sit in the area next to us, we decided to do the same. The customer service inside was no better. The man speaking with my wife was unfriendly, and we got the impression that foreigners are not particularly welcome. After ordering 2 cappuccinos, a ham and cheese croissant, and 2 cornetti (which tasted at least a day old), the waiter finally came and addressed us in a rather unfriendly manner in Italian. We tried speaking English, but he left in a huff. It seemed like he was complaining about the service charge, but with 5 plates, where else were we supposed to go? I tried explaining the situation again inside, but they just shrugged it off and looked at me with clear disdain. All in all, it was not a pleasant experience. Boccia across the street is much nicer—with better coffee, service, and food. Would not return to Café Defilla.
J M — Google review
Had a coffee and a beer outside on the terrace and noticed only then that this is a special place. Below under the galeria in the shade it is even on the warmest moment of the day a good place to sit down for some refreshments.

The Cattedrale Basilica Santuario di Nostra Signora dell'Orto in Chiavari is a significant religious site, built after the miraculous apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1610. It serves as the center for the diocese and marian sanctuary, featuring a facade adorned with marble bas-relief artworks depicting episodes from the Virgin's life. The interior boasts frescoes by renowned artists such as Bendetto Borzone and Camillo Pucci.
An historic religious congregation who spread all around the globe!! There are many Santa Madonna del orto schools in America, 2 in Buenos Aires Argentina, dated dates from 1872 and 10 in Argentina, also in Brazil, USA and many american countries. Antonio Maria Giannelli his founder was a great person who wanted to educate as many children as he could

A must visit in Chiavari. You have to see it to experience its glory! First impression, it's a Pantheon of Rome! With a history dating back to mid 1600,. Nostra Signora dell'Orto was named Cathedral in 1893, when Pope Leo XIII created the Chiavari Diocese. The interior is decorated with frescoes by Bendetto Borzone, Camillo Pucci & Francesco Gandolfi.I read that the Neoclassical paneo (portico) was added in the beginning of the 19th century. This is a stupendous cathedral.

Spectacular Botanical garden in the very heart of this beautiful city of Chiavari. This is a homage to the Rocca family. It's a vertically arranged garden with the entrance access having a spectacular view from the top terrace. As you are winding up the terraced path there's rows of holm oak trees, water features and manmade caves, especially intriguing for children to explore. When I was here, the Temple of Music was an interesting feature. Fabulous place for the whole family to explore, relax and find great spots to enjoy your lunch. There's a public lavatory in the main entrance and little playground for young children. The Villetta del Te (like a detached Foley) was still to be renovated. This is a small but gorgeous garden to explore.

Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Parrocchia di San Giovanni Battista is a picturesque church with a rich history. Originally constructed in 1182, it underwent renovation in 1624 and received its current facade in 1935. The interior of the church impresses with an abundance of natural light streaming through the dome above the altar. In non-service hours, soft classical music fills the space, adding to its tranquility.
(Translated by Google) Beautiful temple with a very long history. Founded in the 12th century, with additions and renovations until the 20th century. Its interior is very baroque, with chapels also decorated in styles over the centuries. The Black Christ stands out, whose origin is curious, if not already miraculous. It was originally located in the abbey of San Antonio Abad, where the Chiavari courthouse is now located. When it burned, only the fiery image was saved, which was considered miraculous. Deciding to renew the image for public worship, the authorities of the republic ordered it to be repainted, but each time they tried, the soot and burns reappeared. This is how members of the local council acted as witnesses during his last painting attempt. After being completely renovated, the image once again appeared smudged as if consumed by fire. It was decided that this was also a miracle and the burned statue was left for public worship in this parish. It is decorated with silver swallows, protagonists of another Clavarense miracle, but that is another story. It can be visited, but it is a parish in use, so it must be respected when it is used for sacred worship.

Beautiful church originally built in 1182. Renovated in 1624 and the current facade was added in 1935. I love the way natural light floods in through the dome above the altar. Ligurian restaurant
Luchin, a centuries-old restaurant in Liguria, is definitely worth a visit. Here, you can indulge in their exceptional farinata - a delectable flatbread made from chickpea flour and baked over olive wood in copper pans. Despite their modesty, they proudly serve authentic Genovese dishes that are sure to impress.

Fantastic Ligurian cuisine. I've been several times, and they never disappoint. Their pesto trofie and anchovies are highly recommended, and the octopus is amazing if it's on the menu.
Garrett N — Google review
Service was not great - we had to wait a long time between dishes, and the suggestions from the waitress were honestly not good. We started with a minestrone cooked in the forno a legna, which had no flavor at all. They added pesto, probably to give it some taste, but it did not help. The trofie al pesto were okay, but the cheese tasted really cheap and ruined the dish. We finished with calamari and potatoes that were completely soggy and overcooked. When we gave polite feedback to the owner, he replied in an arrogant way, saying everything was freshly made and that it’s normal for food to lose texture when heated… not exactly what you want to hear. I have lived in Tuscany for years and traveled all over Italy. Never had such a bad food experience. Do not be fooled by how full the place is. Some people just have low standards.
Jenny S — Google review
Historic location for the "Farinata" (a typical Ligurian dish made with chickpea flour cooked in an old wood-burning oven). The location smells of local history, even if in some places I found it not very clean (perhaps it just happened on this day). We can choose between sitting inside or outside. We chose to savor the local food among the caruggi (narrow Ligurian alleys). The mise en place is simple with a paper placemat. A dish that aroused my interest was the "caponata" made with octopus, tuna, and various vegetables... in one word: excellent! To satisfy the greedy side we obviously chose to taste the farinata (cooked in a wood-burning oven it turned out to be exceptional!). Only question mark: "why won't they serve coffee?" In any case we had fun and we are satisfied. Prices a little high, but worth it.
Edward V — Google review
We come here a lot as a family and we are in love with it. Things have gotten pricier, but that is to be expected, with how everything is. The food is delicious and well worth it - our favourites are the farinata, trofie al pesto, and minestrone :)
