Cahors in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Cahors, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Cahors is a medieval riverside city known for its dramatic loop in the Lot River and its fortified 14th-century Valentré Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its compact historic center features narrow lanes, half-timbered houses, and the Romanesque Saint-Étienne Cathedral with remarkable cloister and cupolas. The town is also a gateway to the Lot wine region, particularly famed for its robust Malbec (Cahors AOC) wines. Nearby villages and limestone landscapes make it a convenient base for exploring caves, hilltop towns, and scenic river valleys.
With favorites like Les Petits Producteurs, Pont Valentré, and Au Fil des Douceurs, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Auberge des Gabares and Bistro de Lisa so you can get the best taste of Cahors while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
Pont Valentré is a narrow medieval pedestrian bridge located in Cahors, Occitanie, France. It spans the Lot River and is known for its pointed arches and three stone towers. Built in the 14th century as part of the town's defenses, it features parapets designed for defenders to drop missiles on attackers below. The bridge was proposed as a defense against invasions from the south and is one of the city's iconic medieval structures.
Beautiful and not that crowded. It has a small Panama Canal to see boats moving from lower level to higher level of the river. Goid view of the city.
Tin N — Google review
I was truly speechless when I saw this nearly 700-year-old bridge. Its history and architectural beauty are simply breathtaking. We took our time walking around it to admire it from every angle, appreciating the stunning bridge.
April W — Google review
This bridge is absolutely beautiful and amazing to see how high this is too. Also encountered a very friendly cat. It’s all free to visit and there are free parking spaces about 5 minute walk away.
Kindness A — Google review
Take your time to look at more than the bridge, the museum is well worth a visit and it's well worth looking around. It would be good walking country, but not in the heat.
Keith R — Google review
I loved my walk and visit to this lovely medieval stone Bridge with its nice views down the river and the surrounding hillsides. Its very close to the town and has plenty of walking path from either side of the river Lot. The bridge is in great condition and well maintained. Highly recommend.
Richard A — Google review
Just incredible and so well preserved! I recommend you visit this place after sunset to appreciate it when all lit up and reflecting on the water below!
Lucas C — Google review
Absolutely beautiful bridge, stunning views from it either side and free to visit. Highly recommend

Best place in Cahors ..for a drink or lunch. Friendly people and the service is great. We ordered both a dessert and is was great... A place to go..

I had an Au Bureau Original burger, my friends had tacos and a salad. All meals were fine feasts. Service was top drawer and my Guinness was great.

Popped in for a drink. Lovely looking bar and great service. It was quiet when we went but have seen it buzzing in the past. Will definitely return.

I’ve been here for a dinner and for watching the UEFA Champion’s League, the food was nice and they also have a great variety of beers. It’s one of the my most favorite place in France, and everywhere I go there I look for this pub. Super!
Rocco C — Google review
As a mixed group of omnivores, vegetarians and vegans, this place did not disappoint. The manager and his team made all preparations for the group and did so with a smile. All fries and veggie burger patties are fried away from meat and you can choose how you want your burger and salads. Highly recommended.
Praful V — Google review
Great warm atmosphere inside and a really nice place to relax for a few hours. The beer tasted great with the lines obviously cared for, the selection consisted of an excellent variety of French and Belgian beer and went well with the pub food menu. Staff were friendly and efficient, especially considering we arrived during the busy lunch period. Will certainly be returning next year!
Peter — Google review
Nice food, nice atmosphere. Very busy when we arrived but still very good service. On the main road but we didn't find that a problem. "Happy hour" for drinks from 5pm 'til 7pm. Happy to recommend.
David H — Google review
Great pub in an oasis of authentic South West France hospitality. It only has one real competitor in the town, and that is further up the hill. Food us good here by International brasserie standards and it is served quickly. The beer is standard Franco-Belgian with good variety. The real plus point (and I've been going here for 8 years, is the happy hour which goes from 6pm until 7.30 every evening, when the beer is two thirds of the price.

Cathédrale Saint-Etienne is a stunning Romanesque/Gothic cathedral located in the picturesque old town of Cahors, South West France. The cathedral features two Byzantine-style domes and exquisite stained glass windows, creating a serene ambiance inside. Visitors can explore the peaceful cloister with its charming gardens and archways adorned with seashells, reminiscent of Pelerinage de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle.
So beautiful. Worth to be seen. This cathedral has Jesus's head cover cloth when he has been killed
Sanaz N — Google review
A beautiful and inspiring experience. Plan to spend an hour or more slowly exploring this immense building. There are lots of ‘individual chapel’ areas around the inside walls each with a different purpose, story or history. Lots to read and contemplate and maybe reflect upon.
Rich M — Google review
A masterpiece of architecture in Cahors, well worth a brief visit. I walked into a Sunday afternoon service and there would have been live classical concert in the evening hosted at the cathedral for free. The building is situated in the beautiful old town of picturesque Cahors. The ceiling paintings are breathtaking and the many colourful glass windows are wrapping the church's interior into a nice ambiance.

Halle de Cahors is a bustling covered market located just across the street from the cathedral. It offers a wide range of regional products, including foie gras and truffles from the Lot region. The market is a lively place to walk around and shop, with many local vendors offering their goods. While it may be small, it provides a good selection of food shops and local produce, including wine. Despite ongoing renovations, the market remains accessible and continues to attract both locals and visitors alike.
The hall, nearly every town in France has a place like this, for markets, concerts, and where the pigeons live etc, usually cold and open but here they closed off the sides and made a spectacular shopping area, and it looks wonderful, is nice it’s fresh and a lively place to walk and shop with many local shops now having a place in here, you can even enjoy the architecture now it closed, it look lovely.

This charming spot offers a delightful array of dishes crafted from regional produce, ensuring an authentic taste of the area. Whether you're in the mood for hearty meat options or lighter vegetarian fare, there's something to satisfy every palate.
Popped in whilst in Cahors for the day. The food was very good, the wine excellent. This is a association of small producers working together based on some strong ethical values and certainly worth your patronage.

We were a group of 4 on a day out in Cahòrs. I had seen this restaurant on the internet and knew they could be busy. As the weather was lovely there were no tables outside but we had a comfortable corner inside. The service was great and our waiters were knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The food arrived in good time and was copious and excellent. I would like to come back and try some other dishes.

Amazing food, amazing service, wine got us really drunk :D
Marko B — Google review
All good!! Not a restaurant per se, and they dont pretend. They collect products from local producers (cheese, duck, fois gras, veggies...) and propose pré cooked dishes (confit, cassoulet, .) Or salads. Local wines, hand picked. The dessert, the Pastis in particular, are amazing. Good service, and nice terrace.
Guillaume D — Google review
The food and drink served here is excellent quality and good value with the focus on local producers. The service was fast, friendly and helpful even though the restaurant was busy.

Food and service was great! The guys running the place have a great knowledge of wine. Great place to discover the specialities of the region. Recommended to make a reservation as there’s limited space.

Nice spot to taste wines and eat foods from small producers. Service was very good. Our waiter's brother was one of the vinerons. Because Cahors is Malbec, we don't get much of a selection in the US. Worth a stop, pleasant terrace with umbrellas.

Recommended by our chambre d'hôtes and did not disappoint. Can see why they go here a lot. Great choices and excellent food. Sizeable portions. Good inexpensive wine options.
Mike W — Google review
A really good address. They have a very generous menu (no one leave hungry, the Chef is passionate about his food, the local products and he is adamant that one must eat good food in his restaurant until it is virtually impossible to eat more). The menu is made out of delicious market products (if you have time and you can make it, the market next to the cathedral is really a nice thing to discover too and it is not far from the restaurant). There's also a lovely roof terrace with some vine providing shadows during the hot season. Some table will enjoy a view on the Lot river that is nearby.

Fantastic evening in a perfect French restaurant, plenty of choice and dined like kings good portions of authentic French food
Paul E — Google review
This restaurant is superb. Six of us dined like kings with mineral water and wine and the bill only came to €105. The quality of the traditional French cooking was excellent and the chef offered us more when he saw the enthusiasm with which we had polished off the first bowl of delicious cassoulet. Cheese and dessert followed as we enjoyed the ambience of the shady outdoor terrace. Everyone in this restaurant takes pride in what they do, and they have a lot to be proud about. Highly recommended.
Richard H — Google review
We visit this part of France often and know this will become a classic in our book. Honest French cuisine without any thrills, this is how locals enjoy their food, very accommodating staff too!
Christophe M — Google review
Look, I'm a grumpy git at the best of times, but I was so happy eating here that I recommend everyone try to book a place if you're in the area. The food is delicious, plentiful, and each dish on offer is clearly made with love and care for the ingredients. If you factor in the price I have never had a better meal outside of my own home. To top it off: €7 for a 75cl carafe of wine?! That barely gets you a half pint of beer in Paris Go, get there early, and enjoy giving this wonderful establishment your patronage.
Will R — Google review
Fantastic family run restaurant. Lovely first floor location overlooking the River Lot. Food is inexpensive and typical French and very tasty. When we went at lunchtime it was full and we were the only non-French people there. At lunchtime it is set 3 course meal with supplement for cheese. 2 choices of starter and 2 for main. Book in summer months. Bit tricky to find, on the ground level it is just a doorway leading to steps.

Bistro
On a calm Monday evening, with low expectations for dinner, Bistro de Lisa turned out to be unexpectedly vibrant. The warm night added to the perfect ambiance on the street. A carafe of pink wine accompanied by a delicately poached egg was followed by the most delicious duck breast I've had in years. The restaurant's unpretentious atmosphere and reasonable prices made it even more appealing.
Absolutely fabulous lunch The croque monsieur was delicious, one of the best I have had and my wife’s chicken cesars salad was superb Great friendly service as well I highly recommend
Bruce R — Google review
Friendly staff usually serve good food but most recent visit was a bit disappointing as the poke bowl was very small for the price and one pizza was burnt on one side. A shame as we have previously been very happy eating here. Lunchtime menu is very good value, including excellent steak-frites & a coffee for €10. Good inside in winter while a sizable outdoor seating area is very nice, especially for summer evenings.
Phillip S — Google review
Worst fish and chips we ever had. Soggy, brown, and at least refried once. To add insult to injury, the owner of the restaurant said that "tastes are different "
Thomas B — Google review
Folie gras as starter was way too much, male waiter was very unfriendly, meat of burger looked like boiled instead of fried and was completely tasteless. French fries were soggy and fat. All in all very disappointing
Jeroen G — Google review
We should have had the pizza, which looked great. I had a very disappointing Caesar salad consisting of crumbed chicken, shredded iceberg lettuce, parmesan and some sauce. We had to flag down a waiter - they didn't seem very interested in us at all!

It was a quiet Monday night and I wasn't expecting too much for my dinner. Bistto L'Isa was open.... and very lively. On the street on a warm night, everything was perfect. A pichet of rose, a poached egg.... and the best maigret du canard I've eaten in years. Unpretentious and very good value.

Situated across the eatery area is this small bistro with a few tables outdoors. It's advisable to reserve in advance, as many patrons were turned away during lunchtime. The portions are generous, especially considering the price. The service is both friendly and efficient. While dining, one can enjoy observing passersby. Although the dishes may appear simple, we were pleasantly surprised by their flavors! Every item was cooked flawlessly, even the decorative sides added delightful colors to the plate.

Authentic Indonesian food not toned down too much for the French - most French do not like it too spicy but the sambal (on the side so you don't have to go wild) was spot on! Multi-lingual staff with cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Well priced too.

We are tourists from Malaysia. As much as we are blessed to be in France, after one week of canard-foie-cheese-repeat, we needed some Asian food. We found this spot on Google Maps and thought we'd give it a go. La Balinaise did not disappoint. The food was incredible -- from the iga babi to the rawon and the pulut hitam (extra stars for the pork and the pulut). The sambal slapped. We have high standards for SEA food and we're happy to say that every dish hit. Thank you for the amazing time!

Alot of fun. Beautiful forest and a great climbing experience. The ziplines are amazing and the fall prevention hooks are very safe. Trees climbing with cables and designed obstacles. Great for kids and adults alike with many different difficulty levels. 100% safe with security camera and a double attachment systems. Points of Interest & Landmarks
Maison de l'eau is a museum located in a former water-pumping station dating back to 1853. The museum focuses on the historical and contemporary interaction between humans, water, and stone. Visitors can learn about the station's role in providing drinking water to Cahors by utilizing the river's strong current. While parking at the museum is limited, visitors can use the nearby bridge to access it.
Really cool that it’s open on Sunday, for free and you have a beautiful view of the Pont Valentré
Sofia A — Google review
Nice museum, well worth visiting! Former pumping station to provide Cahors with drinking water by making use of the strong current of the river. Tip: use the bridge over the river to walk over to the museum (and park your car in Cahors in the neighbourhood of the bridge). Parking at the museum is not really possible.
Hans L — Google review
Detoured to see Pont Valentré which did not disappoint. Spotted cafe/bar from bridge, which turned out to be under the Maison de l'eau - (closed on the Sunday afternoon) Ordered for four after a wait and was then told no Cards - Désolé. The Primarily attraction in Cahors and nearest cafe/bar to it - whose sole existence is to service the visitors to it - is cash only. How quaint.
Den F — Google review
Very interesting and it would be even more interesting if they had a film of a model showing how it works. The drinks cafe downstairs is v v friendly, & you enjoy a wonderful view of the famous bridge.

(Translated by Google) Being an engineer in the water field, I was very interested in the opportunity to visit this small museum which is also free. It is very pretty and we are well received there... Despite everything there is not much in it, it is very basic, even for the general public, and many things could be presented there. It’s a shame, but it’s already very interesting to have been able to go there!

The Arc de Diane in Cahors, France is the main remnant of the Roman baths of Divona Cadurcorum. Despite its name, it's not a temple dedicated to Diana. It's a bit hidden in the city and may not match expectations from guides or postcards, but it offers a pleasant walk. Visitors find it very beautiful and recommend seeing it. The site also features vestiges of an amphitheater and thermal baths, providing a glimpse into the city's ancient past.

Sights & Landmarks
Churches & Cathedrals
The Église Saint-Barthélemy is a captivating sight for enthusiasts of Churches and their architectural beauty. This remarkable Catholic Church boasts fascinating Gothic design, which was reconstructed under the patronage of Pope Johannes XXII. The church holds historical significance as it served as the very place where the pope himself received his baptism. Its exquisite features make it a truly stunning and exceptional structure within its own right.
Beautiful and quite unique!

The burgers are outstanding, cooked exactly how you desire, while the fries are also delicious. Additionally, Le Break offers a wide variety of beverages in their coffee shop section, ensuring there's something for everyone's taste.
Excellent, fresh burgers, cooked to demand how you want them. Decent chips too. Open long hours,it is also a proper coffee shop offering a range of choices to drink. The staff are friendly and helpful and I recommend it as a nice change from US-style burger and chicken places such as McD and KFC.

Well done (Original) Un petit coin sympa pour manger des hamburgers et des frites maison. La grande frite est vraiment énorme par rapport à la petite. (Translated by Google) After reading all the reviews I was really expecting something else. FYI, this brand does not only offer burgers. Compared to McDonald's, it's actually nicer. But compared to other specialty burgers, the fries are too greasy, the bread is industrial, the steak is a little overcooked. Ultimately the bacon burger was rather lackluster. But hey, for 10 euros per menu, it’s still acceptable. Buffalo Grill Pradines is a delightful dining spot that promises a warm and welcoming atmosphere, thanks to its friendly staff. Guests have raved about the delicious grilled chicken, juicy burgers, and perfectly cooked steaks. The service is notably quick and efficient, making it an ideal choice for those looking for a satisfying meal without long waits. With all meat sourced from France, diners can enjoy quality dishes at reasonable prices.

Well thanks for nothing Buffalo Grill for greatly inconveniencing us (may sound like an exaggeration but it's truly not). If you don't respect the opening times listed by yourselves then you should find another buisness to be in. When your customers go out of their way to dine with you only to arrive to be greeted with a printed sign that you closed all day for lunch and open 2hrs later than is advertised when there is no reason to change hours (i.e. no bank holiday) then you clearly do not care for custom. Tour de France cannot be an excuse as we have been in many other towns where the TdF passes through and no other branch of Buffalo Grill has ever closed it's doors or even opened late. In fact, it's usually the perfect situation for buisnesses to capitalise on but it looks like you failed epically on a prime buisness opportunity. That's quite embarrassing for you, no?

Nestled in a stunning location directly across from the iconic Pont Valentr, Au Fil des Douceurs offers an unforgettable dining experience that beautifully marries exquisite cuisine with breathtaking views. Guests are greeted by friendly staff who ensure attentive service throughout their meal. The menu features beautifully presented dishes crafted with high-quality ingredients, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
Quite exceptional nouvelle cuisine. Excellent service in a great location at great prices

Started well, with very friendly staff and lovely location by the Pont Valentré. Service was quick, the food was excellent and we enjoyed a bottle of local red wine. Having been asked to order desserts at the beginning of the meal made sense when they arrived as they were fabulous. All up, a great meal.
Andrew — Google review
The views from the restaurant to the tower and bridge are very nice, and the menu looks promising, that’s the reason that make us (family of 4) decide to have dinner there. It was reasonable early and the restaurant was 70% empty, the only point was that we had just arrived Cahors that evening and we were dressing casual (not incorrect at all, just casual). The waitress refused to let us in, with the argument that the restaurant was full (not at all, we just saw they accepting people without reservation minutes after). I have rarely felt the contempt I felt in his eyes. This restaurant is the opposite to friendly
For R — Google review
A lunchtime favorite with locals, but we came early and the attentive ladies found us a window table and extended a warm welcome. The food was beautifully presented and excellent quality. My server made a point of showing me the bottle from which my single glass of delicious Cahors vintage was poured.
Michael P — Google review
We arrive at the restaurant and are "welcomed" by a lady ("reservation under Sophie blablabla?"). We explain that one member of our party's train is delayed and he will be arriving a bit later. She bluntly tells us that we had a reservation at 21h (we didn't, we had a reservation at 20h30), and that the kitchen closes at 21h, and that he better not arrive later. Since we could not guarantee he would arrive on time, we ask if we can simply have drinks. She literally replied: " You need to leave, this is a restaurant, not a bar. We refuse people here." And so we left. We understand a restaurant has every right to refuse to serve only drinks. But the rudeness of this woman was baffling. Big contrast with the typical Southern friendliness! PS: the restaurant is across a road, and the view of the river is hardly visible from the terrace.

Chateau De Mercues is a stylish hotel located in a 13th-century chateau, offering fine dining, an outdoor pool, and walking trails. The property includes a well-designed contemporary winery beneath the front garden. It is owned by Bertrand and Christine Vigouroux and is part of the renowned Relais & Chateaux group. The chateau boasts medieval castle vibes and overlooks the Lot, providing excellent service and beautiful reception rooms expertly restored to their former glory.
Rain, Fog, and Fine Dining… Despite the gloomy weather, we made our way to Le Château de Mercues for a truly memorable lunch. This beautiful castle, perched above the Lot Valley, is part of the esteemed Relais & Châteaux family and recommended by the MICHELIN Guide. It lived up to every bit of that reputation. • We enjoyed a delicious meal in an elegant dining room with our chairs facing the fog-draped views of the valley. The service was flawless, warm, professional, and five-star through and through. • The highlight on this experience was an impromptu behind-the-scenes visit of the chapel and the kitchen, where we met the sous-chefs and watched the brigade prepare for the evening’s gastronomic dinner. It was like witnessing a perfectly orchestrated dance. Thank you! • Another unforgettable Relais & Châteaux experience. Already looking forward to the next one.

We booked this hotel as a bit of a luxury after a long road trip and we were not disappointed! The staff are extremely welcoming and happy to help with anything. We got upgraded and the room was incredible - they provided robes and slippers which is always a bonus. We went on a Sunday so didn’t get to try the full gastronomic menu, but the Sunday night menu was still amazing. We also did a wine tasting of the wines made on site - their Malbec is delicious and we bought a couple of bottles to take with us. We were only staying one night but wished we had stayed longer!

Highly recommend this hotel for many reasons. Its grounds and view are stunning, the staff is very endearing and helpful. The restaurant is a gastronomic experience and wine pairings / tour are well done. Our only regret is not staying several more days

We had a beautiful stay. The service was excellent, everyone was very friendly. The food was fantastic with lovely wine pairings.
Joanne C — Google review
Booked a visit + wine tasting of 4 wines here. Beautiful chateau, amazing view, and the person who guided our visit was knowledgable and friendly. I would say the view and ambience by itself is already worth the cost. We had to wait a bit, which was no issue for us, but the host kindly offered us another tasting round to compensate. I would recommend getting at least 5 wines to taste, as most of our group agreed that the experience would have been less if we had finished with the 4th wine. In hindsight I would have skipped either the white or rosé that we tasted; although they were good quality, and focus on mainly the red wines (the dessert wine was lovely too, however).

Good hotel in a well restored castle. Comfortable room. A fine restaurant worthy of a Michelin star - this is not our first star restaurant. This one is really good. Very professional wine pairing. We were very pleased with the tour and wine tasting, which is produced here. Good professional staff. Very beautiful view from the window and the park around the castle.
