Factory Outlets
Located in a rural setting, the Royal Quays Outlet and Independent Centre offers discounted fashion and lifestyle stores. While there are numerous outlet shops, it is evident that many new businesses are also emerging. Some local establishments have opened their doors, selling items such as furniture, food and beverages. Additionally, visitors can now enjoy a brewery and tasting room along with ample free parking. For travelers with specific dietary requirements or those interested in health foods, a vegan shop is available.
I regularly make a trip over just to visit the First come first served shop and see what they have in x the owner is lovely and always has a chat. The range of products available are fantastic and the prices take some beating x I was pleased when they reopened local to me as previously i travelled to their other location x I highly recommend the shop for anyone who hasn’t already been x I visit other stores whilst there such as Next and Poundland.
Angela R — Google review
It has some great outlets but at the moment it’s not scoring high. Greggs is opening an outlet shortly so it might attract more customers. We use it to meet up and see people. Great nursery at the Broom play cafe
Jon A — Google review
This place used to be excellent, what happened! Very little retail shopping! Games and gadgets are plenty, as are coffee shops but it dull and boring. Highlight was Clarkes outlet still in place, but for how long? Very disappointed.
Kim L — Google review
I work close to the retail park so often go at lunchtime. It needs a wider variety of shops but foot fall isn’t great so can understand why retailers are reluctant to open there. However there is a Greggs there now alongside a Costa & Subway, so plenty of choice for lunch. Generally it looks like it needs a makeover from top to bottom.
Mark J — Google review
It's a retail park thats gone downhill over the last few years since the M&S outlet left. It has recently changed owners and it looks as if they are trying to turn things around having opened a Greggs recently and the local costa has been refurbished. Still looking a bit empty and down at heel but hopefully turning things around.
Mike L — Google review
Poor selection of shops. It needs a flagship shop to bring people in. An opportunity missed by not having events ect on during school holidays. Not very impressed and a very strange aroma filled the air.
Ian ( — Google review
I visited Quays outlet today it is great place for family visit,I have great shopping ,great value and quality 😍
Cook I — Google review
THERE'S NOT MUCH TO IT?! You'd think being an outlet store there would be a lot of shops selling you stuff. I thought that, and when I looked at the place from the outside, I assumed it would be just like another Cheshire Oaks. But it's far from that. I think I counted three rows of shops, most of which you'd probably never go into anyway. A couple of coffee shops, Poundland and a Garden Centre ... and that's it?! It's definitely seen better days and could probably do with a refurb and some fresh new shops opening up on site. I'd say if you want to waste about an hours worth of time, it's worth a look. I was done in 20 minutes.

The Beacon Centre is a convenient shopping destination located in North Shields. It features a variety of shops and amenities, including nearby dining options and local pubs. The center is wheelchair accessible and offers close parking. While it caters to budget-conscious shoppers with its mix of charity stores and discount retailers, it also houses larger chain stores like Poundland and Wilko. Visitors appreciate the cleanliness of the center and the presence of a supermarket on-site.
Lot of empty shops but area was clean and tidy
Cath S — Google review
Security on the door. Excellent access for wheelchairs, prams, mobility aids. Easy walk through layout. Seating areas. Clean. Public toilet located in the library without the centre. Often community type pop ups or seasonal pop ups in centre near Barclays bank.
J B — Google review
Can I start by saying I don't visit north shields centre very often but I think North Tyneside planning department should give themselves a pat on the back as it looks like they have succeeded in ripping the heart out of the main shopping street of shields. Once a busy shopping area and a place to meet friends now resembles a sparse wasteland occupied by groups of kids looking for trouble or druggies. The council are trying to attract a more upmarket kind of dweller to the area which is a mistake. North Shields is and always has been a working class town. The town would be best served by closing down some of the charity shops and pizza shops and try attracting more retail businesses.
Geordie R — Google review
Limited number of shops, suited more for the pocket wise shoppers. A few charity stores and not forgetting the Poundstore, which no longer sells much for a pound. The is a charity store which can be useful if looking for bric n brac. This is a sign of the times.

Two hours free parking and just a five minute walk to the shopping centre. Nice little mall with a few shops inside, looks like they are re-developing the Town Centre. It will enhance the town once finished. It was quite a peasant stroll around the town and the people are so friendly and helpful.
Steven T — Google review
Very spacious! No food shopping mall in the centre but lots of shops outside. It's in the middle of shopping location, makes it a very good place to start. Inside the Mall its very clean, has a lovely tea room, chemist, clothes shop, Wilkos (Ithink there's a barbers but not sure, charity shop, pound shop, library and bakery. Pretty good from what I've seen but I don't go there very often.

Tynemouth Market is a bustling market located in a station building, offering a wide array of goods including art, crafts, books, CDs, clothing, plants and food. Visitors can expect to find unique and quirky items while exploring the stalls. The market is praised for its Victorian splendor and the friendly atmosphere created by the stallholders. While parking may be a challenge, the market's convenient location near the metro station makes it easily accessible for visitors.
Great big market with so many interests stalls. There is also a toastie staff called Mardi Gras No. 58 which I would recommend 👌 Has a few food stalls including plenty cakes and sweets stalls.

Fabulous market at Tynemouth Metro station on Saturdays from 9am. Lots of stalls from news craft goods to second hand and antiques. After the market have a walk around Tynemouth I would also recommend a walk up the coast to Whitley Bay, bit of a long walk but worth it
Deborah B — Google review
Lovely little market. Plenty of art, photography, keepsakes and great food options, but my favourite part was The Sidings, a little row of shops I'd not seen before. Beautiful flowers by Jules, sustainable household goods at Buy the Kilo and old-school sweet shop Sweet Reminisce. There's also Tynemouth Barbers (not that I need that nowadays!) and Love Shy Tattoo shop, which I'm not brave enough to visit, but their work is fantastic. Last but by no means least House of Frame. Bespoke picture framing with a fantastic selection of frames, a friendly face and a well stocked Gallery from original and limited edition local artists (Prefab, Mul & Lucie in the Sky) to little pick-me-up funky A4 framed prints and everything in-between. Can't recommend a visit enough!!!

Great market. Lots of choice. My favourite stall is the lady selling Greek food. Olive oils, tahinis etc. Some authentic art work in a wide range of mediums, at fair prices. Some good food kiosks/vans too, with a reasonable amount of choice for veggie and vegan diets. Probably could do with a few more seats though, as its no fun eating food walking around!

The Customs House is a historic arts center located in South Shields, overlooking the River Tyne. Originally built in the 1860s as a customs post for shipping, it has been beautifully renovated and now houses a cinema, theatre, art gallery, and bistro/bar. This Neoclassical building also features a 437-seater main auditorium, a smaller studio theatre, restaurant, exhibition space, offices, rehearsal room and community room.
Amazing venue with fantastic staff. A pleasure to come through with a touring show.
Ollie P — Google review
Visited here today with a friend to watch a play. The staff were so kind, friendly, helpful and professional. So knowledgeable. A small but perfectly formed theatre. Very well run (some larger theatres could learn from them) food and drinks prices were very reasonable. Toilets were clean and well maintained.
Angela L — Google review
Visited the customs house with my children for a performance of "Taylormania". The venue was great, plenty of staff on hand directing people to seats. The seating was comfortable and facilities couldn't be faulted, the bar did get busy but queue moved quickly thanks to the staff.
Jo F — Google review
Lovely place to visit with some cracking shows. Negatives are that the reception and cafe gets ridiculously busy whilst waiting for the shows to start. There's actually a quieter place upstairs to sit and relax but no information to let people know this.
Lisa F — Google review
Fantastic theatre.. went to see, thank abba for the music.. they were brilliant from start to finish.. a must see show.. the staff at the theatre were all lovely, a big thanks to the security team who ejected 4 drunken women, they didn't get the chance to spoil the show for everyone else.. well done lads.. swift action as well..

Great place to be. Love lunch me and the wife will definitely be back. The staff members Maisey and Sky are absolutely fantastic they totally go above and beyond. Thanks girls and thanks the customs house chefs 10-10
John T — Google review
Staff are great. Venue is comfortable with plenty of parking. Went last night to see Roy Orbison and Travelling Wilburys after seeing them last year. Have to say this year's show was a big disappointment. Out of a two hour show over 30 minutes was spent on talkng about raffle tickets, who was married to Roy Orbison, merchandise sales, then having the raffle and telling us how far each band member had travelled to the show. The whole show had a very amateurish feel about it and the music not as tight as last year. At £31.50 a ticket I expected better. Will not go next year.

Good venue with a wide range of shows n movies on all year round. A little pricey for drinks but good atmosphere n an important part of South Shields nightlife.

Park
Nestled in South Shields, South Marine Park is a delightful Victorian-era gem that offers a perfect blend of relaxation and recreation. This expansive park features lush green spaces ideal for picnics and sports, making it a popular gathering spot for friends and families alike. Children are particularly enchanted by the miniature steam train that chugs through the park, providing endless joy as they wave at its passengers. The park boasts an inviting café where visitors can grab refreshments, including the famous Minchellas ice cream.
One of the best parks of the northeast England. It has everything from green spaces to kids' play area, cafeteria to public toilets, a lake, a brandstand and an unbelievable kids' mini train which goes all around the park. Truly a clean and well maintained park.
Anoop M — Google review
Wonderful park for kiddies to play or just to walk around the lake. Cafe and toilet facilities. Lots of safe clean play equipment. Free on street parking nearby.

Small Victorian park with boating lake. Right on the coast near beaches and leisure facilities. Excellent children’s playgrounds and a cafe serving a good selection of food and drinks.

Lovely park in South Shields. Plenty to do for families included play areas, boating lake and a little steam train ride.
Karl J — Google review
Great, fun-filled place for a day out There is a lake with lots of ducks, also swan boats to ride around in, Minchella's ice cream place directly next to it with delicious food, a playground less than a minute away for the kids to play on and a train that often circles the park which is a great time for young ones. The park is also filled with lots of trees and plants, is wheelchair accessible with very few steps and is directly next to the fair and arcade, overall a great place to go on a day out with the family

Nature & Parks
North Marine Park is a delightful destination that has recently been revitalized, offering visitors an upgraded fitness area and a brand-new playground for children. A gentle incline leads you to the top of Lawe Top, where breathtaking views of the River Tyne and North Sea await. This park complements its sibling, South Marine Park, which features a serene lake perfect for hiring swan pedalos and enjoying rides on a charming miniature steam train.
It looks like a small park at first, I've seen a squirrel everytime. Great place to walk your dog, with pathways through woodland, a big field with pic nic tables, a children's playground. The park originally built in the 18th century has a bowling green, I think it is 5£ for a family or 2£ a person. The park can lead you to the beach, a lovely beach, no dogs allowed May to September, bring a pop up tent, what a great day, not a penny spent.
Yvonne D — Google review
Great park on the beach lovely little train lots to do.
Lisa D — Google review
Whilst the North & South Marine parks complement each other by providing a different experience, this is my favourite of the two. It is bigger than the South Park but it's outstanding feature is the magnificent views from the hill at the North end which has lots of seating on the benches provided. Whilst it doesn't have the tourist facilities of the South Park, it does have several children's play areas and several bowling greens. Also a community garden and meeting point.
Miles M — Google review
Lovely park, checkout the recent names of the local soldiers put on the walkway.
Syed A — Google review
Beautiful park and usually very clean. Good for tranquil walks and very nice views of sea. Play area for the kids and plenty of benches.
Anisur M — Google review
Very peaceful and a lovely sea view as you walk up, seats are situated along the winding pathway so no problems here for push chairs and wheel chairs as you walk to the top. Great views of the North and South Pier's.
Dennis T — Google review
Although it lacks the amenities of the South Marine Park, it has been recently renovated to include a comprehensive children's play area and has stunning views of the Harbour from the hilltop.Plus lots of flowers providing colour during spring through to autumn.
Jim M — Google review
The new steps and walkway are a nice improvement. It will be interesting to see the finished refurbishment in 2021. Its about time that the North Marine Park was shown some TLC.

Italian restaurant
Davanti Classico is an Italian restaurant located in Tynemouth, offering traditional cuisine in a stylish setting. The menu features a variety of classic Italian dishes such as seafood, pizzas, pastas, risottos, and seasonal specials. Situated within the architecturally stunning Tynemouth Station, it's a convenient spot for visitors to the weekend market or those traveling by train. Locals frequent this restaurant for its popular Italian menu and casual dining experience.
We love it here so much. We have had calamari, minestrone soup and pizza. All of them are delicious to us. We have never had minestrone soup before so we cannot compare it to others. However, I love eggplant so it was really delicious. The staff is friendly. The only thing that really surprised me was that the margarita pizza did not contain basil. Thank you very much.
Rana A — Google review
Brilliant night out! We brought our visitors to Davantis, good choice as it turned out to be the perfect end to their trip 'up north' thanks to Grace who took orders and served the food. How she kept track of everything is beyond me. There was such a good menu we kept changing options. Grace was amazing, nothing was too much bother and the banter was so funny. The food was excellent to. When 'picky' southerners say its the best Italian they've had it speaks volumes. Fab atmosphere, couldn't fault a thing. Will definitely be back. Thanks again to all the staff for giving us a really brilliant night out.

Went on a Groupon deal. Parking is an issue unless you strike lucky with one in the reserved area. Staters were really good. The garlic bread is a pizza base type and is probably too big for one person as a starter. Potato skins were really good. My risotto didn't have much chicken in it and was a bit too tomatoey sauce wise. Service was good Would go back no problem
Roger S — Google review
Lovely food, will definitely be back! Bruchetta, tagliatelle and lemon cheesecake.
Amanda O — Google review
Had Rapid lunch time menu £11.95 on their website. Two drinks circa £12. The actual price of the meal was £13.95 and an additional non advertised 10% surcharge plus the cost of a coke which we did not order. The result was that an expected bill of circa £36 had become £47 which I discovered later re my bank balance. Defo will not be going again. Take care out there!
Paul S — Google review
7 of us booked for late lunch 2.30pm. The place was fairly quiet with just a couple of tables occupied. The food here is excellent but the service is dreadful. A couple of disinterested and disengaged waitresses on duty. They had to be reminded to bring menus and cutlery to the table. After 30 minutes we had to find someone to take our order. The waitress who served us with our food was miserable and very off hand. When asked about the desserts she muttered something unintelligible. We were told they would bring the bill and card machine. We got fed up waiting and eventually went inside to pay. This place could be so much better if the staff were pleasant, welcoming and occasionally smiled. They appeared to be bored and treated us like an unwelcome distraction. We won't return.

Just arrived at 22.30 after a long drive, to be greeted by the lovely Susan & Jade. All smiles and warm greetings, making me feel very welcome. When i asked if the biscuits in the charity stsnd were a cash only donation, realising i didnt have any cash on me, Jade very kindly offered to treat me. If only there was a 6th star to give these ladies, who've absolutely made my evening.

I arrived early and they were very kind and the amazing lady behind the counter Vikky was an absolute hero. She looked after my daughter, as if she was her own. I couldn’t ask for better service that woman deserves a raise. Because of her, I would want to give this place six stars. The rest of the staff were brilliant too.

Staying hear before and after cruise that is leaving from Newcastle Port Authority. Room was clean but had an odd smell in it that smelled like pickles to me. Free wifi. Breakfast and meals available at the restaurant next door. Felt safe. Lots of parking during our stay.

Last minute on the day booking due to changed plans. The booking process was quick and easy. Met by a very friendly gentleman on reception who got us checked I. and helpfully pointed out the local amenities (including the Brewers Fayre next door). The room was clean, comfortable, and had all the usual premier inn items you expect. But no air conditioning which would have helped in the June heat and humidity. Location is close to the busy working docks that continue to operate through the night (with some associated noise as expected). Overall a good experience and I would visit again if at Tyneside

We checked in for 1 night on Thursday 22nd May at around 5pm and were greeted by 2 super friendly women on reception (one was called Susan, unfortunately I can’t remember the other name) who went out their way to help make our stay great. The hotel itself was pretty quiet, basic but clean and comfortable and good value for the £44 we paid.

absolutely shocking and ridiculous service food turned up late and freezing cold and when i rang the shop to tell them they delivered my food stone cold all she cared about was that i didn’t ring her straight away and was so rude over the phone absolutely disgusting behaviour will never be ordering again gave me a pinch of chips too disgraceful

Have ordered from here multiple times before and never had an issue. However tonight placed order just before 6 and was given delivery time of 6:20-6:40. At 6:45, called and asked if order had left yet (was marked as out for delivery on app) was told they were waiting for a driver. We still hadn’t received food by 7 (an hour after we had ordered and 20 minutes after our latest delivery time) so we called again at 7:10. We were first told that food was still at the shop, which shocked us given we had ordered over an hour before. When we said we’d ordered over an hour ago and weren’t sure why food hadn’t left yet, we were told food had just left. Food eventually arrived at 7:15 but was nowhere near nice enough to have waited over an hour for.

I accidentally stumbled upon 31 The Quay, a hidden gem of a restaurant. The meal I had there was superb and the service was exceptional. I opted for the set menu, which offered delectable dishes using high-quality ingredients. The regular menu also provided excellent options to choose from. Considering the quality of the food, ingredients, and service, the set menu was reasonably priced. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return.
I finally visited 31 the Quay, and it was such a treat! We went on Friday evening and were pleasantly surprised by their November special menu—four courses for just £30! Every dish was fantastic, and I highly recommend the Pithivier for main course! One of our guests has a dairy intolerance, and the kitchen was very helpful in advising which dishes could be modified. The staff were lovely —friendly without being intrusive, and they checked in at just the right times to see if we needed more drinks. The atmosphere was cosy, with bright, clean decor, and it wasn't noisy at all, making it easy to enjoy the conversations within the party. I would highly recommend especially if you are celebrating a special occasion.

Lucky enough to come here when visiting a friend who lives locally. Service was fantastic, especially handling allergy sensitivities. All dishes delicious and almost too big! Sadly no room left for dessert but friend's cheesecake looked amazing. Added to by an incredible view up. Highly recommended.

Wow! What an amazing experience: exceptional service from Holly and the team, and wonderful food, impeccably presented and served by the chef. This place is an absolute gem. We had a reservation for more than 20 people and every one was amazed with the quality of the food, the attention to detail and the timely service of the food. I can’t wait to come back. Highly recommended!

This place is a gem! We have gone a few times and are very happy with the food and service every time! The price is also good for the quality and type of menu! The location is great with a lovely view. Perfect for a special occasion or just a genuinely lovely meal out!

I booked a table at 31 The Quay for my husband's birthday having seen a random menu post on Facebook. I was a little apprehensive as I am the pickiest eater but I thought I'd try something new and i'm glad we did! The food was impeccable, even the focaccia "nibbles" were super soft and fluffy. My husband and I were very impressed. 100% recommend, we will definitely be back.

Sunday Lunch The roast potatoes seemed to have a shell as hard as a conker , I checked the knife and yes, to my surprise it was serrated although still required more of a hacking movement to pierce the outer shell, the broccoli was rather limp to say the least. As for the mashed potato it lacked body, looked and tasted as if it had been left in a whipping machine overnight , I’ve had thicker soup, unlike the turnip which as least had fibre. The Yorkshire pudding was light and crispy, unfortunately letdown by a gravy that was thin and bland. I felt the roast beef was a little undercooked for me and tasted more of a jelly than textured , but that’s more of a personal preference. The cauliflower cheese was average as the cabbage. This was followed by a sticky pudding with ice cream and a butterscotch sauce, ( butterscotch being a favourite of mine, it didn’t much taste like butterscotch ,the main reason I ordered it) The service was a little slow although it did add to a more relaxed atmosphere especially if one isn’t in a hurry. None of the staff ever presented a smile. The place itself has a vibrant feel and quite light and airy appeal. The place is spotlessly clean and the open kitchen ads to the experience. Overall the place and the presentation can best be described as ,nice, although for over £90 for two of us I wouldn’t go again, for the rest of the day I felt robbed.

The table was booked by our friends and to be honest I wasn't expecting the bottomless brunch to be worth the money. I've got to admit I was wrong. I didn't even expect to have many drinks but I was also wrong about that. It was a Tapas style menu which was served one dish at a time over the course of our visit. I enjoyed every course, some really tasty well presented food. We had to take some of it home as couldn't finish it all. We intend to go again.

Nestled in the heart of nature, The Rising Sun Countryside Centre is a sprawling 162-hectare haven that invites visitors to immerse themselves in its stunning landscapes. This expansive park features diverse ecosystems, including lush grasslands, serene woodlands, tranquil ponds, and even a charming farm. It's an ideal destination for families seeking quality time together amidst the beauty of wildlife.
Lovely walk, plenty of trails and a cafe along the way. You don't need to go up the beacon hill but its worth it.
Emma R — Google review
Great place for easy walk, we spotted various animals and enjoyed the view around the trail. There also several trailing option, you can choose for a short, medium, or long walk. However, some track is quite muddy and need extra effort to pass it.
Sonia — Google review
I've used this park a few times to go for a jog, but a simple jog around the blue or green route is marred by signposting that I never seem to follow very well. I know it doesn't trouble many other people and maybe it's because I'm on the spectrum, but while running I'm not taking my time to remember every turn of a route. I'm glancing up for signs to see if a stretch of path is as long or short as I expected from the map. The bottom stretch of the green and blue routes have a crossroads, with route arrows on the left pointing in the direction of the continuing path, which it turns out leads you well away from the route. It was only when I went all the way back when I saw the other signpost, all the way across the other side of the path and set back, pointing the correct way. Why are they done this way? There's also the fork in the path going through the trees up the side of the route where another signpost would have been useful to clarify and remind people. Again, maybe I'm stupid but it would be helpful for anyone with memory and directional problems. The park is nice and it's got easy and flat routes as options along with the more challenging routes. I just wish the signposting was better.
David G — Google review
Nice peaceful walk. Great for dog walkers. There is a bakery, play areas.
Severine N — Google review
Good access and clearly signed paths make for an easy walk with lots of information boards to enlighten and educate. There is ample parking and a cafe and play area. Staff in the cafe were pleasant and the food was good and reasonably priced, but the arrangements are a bit odd. There is a microwave to heat up your own scones ( not sure what else). Seating was limited because staff were mopping the floor (even when it got busy).
Liz ( — Google review
The walk was ok, a few trails that are the same. Walked to the farm and there was one sheep. Fed the ducks on the way back which was the only bit the kids enjoyed.
Ben G — Google review
Quite disappointed. We didn’t find the way through the woods very well marked but did like the trees. The Hides themselves are not very nice , the first Hide was grotty and had a lovely decorative shopping trolley, the second one was not very nice to sit down in and watch the birds. Dog poo everywhere, so you have to walk looking down, just in case. Massive pile of Horse poo right outside one of the Bird Hides. The long wagonways might be good for walking dogs but we found them very boring to walk, you mostly can’t see anything in either direction. The only nice view we had was spolit by a Pop bottle which somebody had obviously lobbed over to get it there. Service was very slow at the cafe but their coffee and scones were very good - just watch out in sunny weather for all the Wasps if sitting outside - manic.

First time here last Thursday with my fiancé, we looked it up and decided to go here for a walk and it was absolutely lovely, great walks around the river, pond and plenty animals to see aswell. There's 3 different routes we did the blue route and loved it, we will definitely be back so we can go to the bird hide 🐦 free parking aswell bonus and there's playground for kids and a cafe too, I'd definitely recommend it

Nestled at the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall, Segedunum Roman Fort & Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Britain's Roman past. Established around AD 125, this site features the remains of a significant fort and the original wall itself, making it an essential stop for history enthusiasts. Visitors can start their journey by ascending the 35-metre viewing tower for panoramic views of both the fort and its surroundings.
Easily reachable by Metro (get off at Wallsend). The museum was under renovation from the outside and part of the upper floor exhibition was under construction when I visited, but the museum kindly only charged half price. You can get the tickets at the counter with no problem and the museum was not crowded at all when I visited during the week, so you have lots of time to see everything. The accessible part of the museum is very beautifully designed and you feel like you've been teleported back to Roman times. Once you have a ticket you can access the ruins of the Segedunum Fort and the end of Hadrian's Wall just across the street. For roughly 3,50 pounds that was definitely worth a visit!
Ahmad S — Google review
Neat museum that's definitely worth a visit if you're interested in Hadrian's Wall. Entry tickets are discounted as of writing this review, I think it was just under £4 (you can buy at the museum). It's easy to get to, only a ~3-minute walk from the Wallsend metro station. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and there was only one other small group that showed up after me so it's quite relaxed. There were an informative gallery about the site and surrounding area's history and a viewing platform for the site, and you can also walk on the site itself. Just across the road, there's a separate section of the site where there's an actual section of the wall alongside a recreation you can go up on. Unfortunately, it seemed like some of the side galleries and the Roman bathhouse recreation were closed during my visit, not sure when those will be re-opened.
Shoumma S — Google review
Visited on a free English Heritage day and glad we did! So much to see and learn about, very well laid out with a map to guide you. Loads to buy in the gift shop as keepsakes or gifts and friendly staff on hand
Travel W — Google review
In general it’s a nice place to visit. We walked the wall from Bowness on Solway to Segedunum so we were going to stop here anyway. Be advised that this isn’t part of English Heritage, so your pass won’t work here…it’s separate.
ChrisBig 1 — Google review
Three main themes: the viewing tower with a birds eye view of the fort (plus video reconstruction), access to the remains at ground level then under cover explanations and exhibits explaining what you have seen (plus a gift shop!!). Targeted at youngsters with 'touch it/build it/dress up' features and adult explanations. A family well crafted experience.
Leonard K — Google review
A pretty shocking lack of engagement with colonialism in the history exhibits, even where it is explicitly alluded to. The Roman stuff was great though, well presented with lots of cool finds tucked away in the cabinets. Appreciated all the engagement activities too!
Louisa D — Google review
The exhibition on the ground floor is amazing and i lost myself in it for far longer than i had planed too. There's aspects of the exhibition that I imagine would be interesting for every age group and the text to object ratio is very good, I felt like it was just enough without being overwhelming. The shop also has a good amount of books relevant to the exhibitions

If your only visiting Roman sites in Newcastle then go, however other locations have much better Roman site remains. The museum was ok, but much more geared up for schools and kids.

Nestled between Tynemouth Village and North Shields Fish Quay, this sheltered Dene offers a serene retreat. The park is easily accessible from King Edward Road and Tynemouth Road.
Absolutely lovely park! Lots of little things to see around the park such as 'fairy' doors and statues. There are toilets free to use in the main building along with a cafe and plenty of outdoor seating. There is also access to clean drinking water for you and your dogs. This is a lovely and very well maintained park. It has a bandstand and a cafe as well as an old pet cemetery! Don't stick to the main path. Have a wonder up and down the sides. The bird song is amazing. This is a very quiet park. There is a good playground for the kids and a cycle track. Ignore the opening times on Google Maps. It's open every day til 7pm as far as I know

Lovely little park, ideal for taking the dog for a walk, also with a nice playground for kids. There is also a cafe with outside seating area and toilets. There is a small pond in the centre of the park and a bandstand. Plenty of seats and the park looks nice when all the flowers are in bloom.

Lovely little park, feels secluded despite busy location. Pet cemetery is slightly bizarre. Free water bottle fill-up location.
Joe C — Google review
Beautiful little park! Café bright, clean and reasonably priced. Indoor & outdoor seating. Friendly staff. Dog friendly - water bowls outside filled with fresh water. Lots of interesting facts scattered around the place from medieval leper hospital to trees planted from chestnuts brought back from France after WWI. There's an old pet cemetery with headstones to commemorate long gone beloved pets. One brought a tear to my eye especially - in memory of a dog rescued from the beaches in Normandy in 1944 & who lived a long life in North Shields. Wonder if anyone knows the full story? Well worth a visit!

Arbeia, South Shields Roman Fort is a historical site featuring the remains of a large Roman fort. Visitors can explore reconstructed gatehouses and living quarters, as well as a small museum on the premises. The fort offers an immersive experience into the ancient Roman era and provides insights into their military presence in the area. It's a great destination for history enthusiasts and those interested in archaeological sites.
What an interesting place! Free to enter. Museum exhibits to see and fully reconstructed life size Roman buildings to explore. I enjoyed being able to read all of the information around the site about the history. I love that the community is so proud of its history and cared enough to preserve an archaeological site of such importance for the public to see. The lovely ladies working there were very helpful and friendly.
Jessica P — Google review
Even way up in the north of England the Romans occupied the South Shields area. Building a fort to house soldiers and create a supply chain to try and defeat the Scots. But no dice there... This is a wonderful place for families to enjoy. There's a small museum and then signs for a self guided tour are very informative. Great for locals and tourists.
JASON R — Google review
It’s truly fascinating to step back into the Stone Age, preserved for over 10,000 years. The Arbeia Roman Fort is absolutely worth visiting and the best part is, entry is free! The centre provides maps and signs that bring the stories to life. One big question remains, though: how did people manage to build such incredibly thick stone walls?
Tamunotonye T — Google review
A little tricky to find but worth the effort. This is something of a gem surrounded by a school and housing - the story of the community is well told and it's worth taking time to explore the replica barracks and west tower. A venue that should be much better known, established to protect the mouth of the Tyne and, although not part of Hadrian's Wall, very much associated with that era. If you're in the vicinity, do visit! Oh, and it's free too!
Roger W — Google review
Little Roman gem found in South Shields. Two reconstructed buildings are very well done. Large area, smallish museum and shop. Be sure to donate something as its all free
B T — Google review
Free entry, free street parking and friendly staff. Educational and interesting displays. Can easily spend a few hours wondering around... 😊
Guy M — Google review
Amazing site to visit, please definitely stop by! The site is free to enter but donations are welcome. Before we entered, I actually told my partner that it could be a short stop because “how interesting can stone ruins be” AND BOY I WAS WRONG. The site has components that were reproduced using common building techniques at the time and were pieced together based on what was found while excavating the ruins. Additionally, they had descriptive information and insights about life in Arbeia. We even visited another Roman Fort site because Arbeia pleased us a lot, but it was not the same and I was disappointed 🥲
Inas — Google review
By far the best Roman site I've seen in Britain. As a museum, I prefer this to anything there is along the more famous Hadrian's Wall out in Northumberland. As well as the ruins, you have a small interesting museum with great artefacts. What made it for me is the reconstruction. You can climb to the top of the Gatehouse and go into a reconstructed villa, a little like Pompeii (which I recently visited). The site needs better signage though as one of the best bits, seen on my photos, is behind the barracks and easy to miss. This is a very much overlooked gem.

Lovely place with good views across the water.went here with the wife for a pre Valentine's meal. Food was lovely, fresh and well presented. Scallop starter was gorgeous. I had salmon and the wife had smoked haddock, both were delicious. Added bonus of a deal being on giving us the 2 mains for £7.50 each, which we were bot aware off, and thought we had been under charged. Staff were friendly and attentive. Was a lovely night.

Lovely small cozy restaurant which is upstairs. Small menu, means fresh ingredients. Good set menu, my fish and chips were very tasty and so well presented. White linen tablecloths which do make a difference to the whole setting. The service was excellent over the Easter weekend when we visited.

This place is the hidden gem that you've been looking for...... The chef deserves an award purely for managing to serve such top end food for the money. It's a quality over quantity place, don't expect big portions.. It's not fast food either so don't go when you're in a rush. River cafe is all about high quality food and flavours, I've been a few times now and tried more new tastes there than anywhere round here - everything cooked perfectly too. 3 courses for £8.95 during the day is good anywhere but the standard of food sets this place apart... The smoked mashed potatoes yesterday were off the scale. I cant recommend it highly enough to do it justice.

We had another wonderful meal here. The food is so fresh, well cooked and good value. We'll be back soon. We often visit River Café and are never disappointed. The welcome is warm and the ambience pleasant. The menu is full of good quality ingredients. A Riverside gem.

We wanted somewhere where we could get a quick cup of tea. So we searched on Google maps and this place was at the top of the list. So we took a ten minute walk to give these guys a try... We walked in and asked if we could have "just two teas" and was greeted with a great Geordie welcome. All we can say is the teas were lovely at a very reasonable price. We were given a menu "just in case", but we simply didn't have time. But the menu did look appetising and we did see what others had ordered and that looked great. So gutted we couldn't stay long, but hope to pop in again in the not too distant future. (We live in Manchester by the way)

Went in for the first time with a group of friends looking to get a couple of drinks and maybe some food. Advertised as a bar and kitchen. Upon entering we were greeted by two young girls who seemed completely bewildered and had no idea really what to do with us. Waiting to be seated when your popping in for drinks especially when people greeting you don't seem to know what to do when there were 5 people and a dog completely killed Any excitement we had about our first visit. Eventually we pointed out a table that was clearly visible and not reserved. And by that point decided we wouldn't be eating and just have a drink and move on. We had eagerly anticipated our visit as it had been on the cards for a while. But when we got there it felt very much like a restaurant pretending it was a cool bar. And I'm the end failed at both. It advertises as dog friendly but that seemed to be what baffled the hosts. Its a really nice venue and the drinks were to be expected. But that initial welcome just left us feeling like it wasn't a venue we wanted to be in. There are better places to visit in the area that are more welcoming and I'm surprised that this venue has the reputation it does.

We came here during North Tyneside restaurant week as a party of 5. The place is nice inside and in a great location. Unfortunately, all 5 members of our party got sick from the food so I can't give it a good rating for that reason. This may have been because the food took a long time to come out, seems they were understaffed bless them!

Absolutely horrendous experience this evening. Visitors to the area and decided to spend the evening in the beer garden. Walked in and joined the orderly queue at the bar. Several people got served in front of us, but when it got to my turn at the front of the queue several locals had come in, stood themselves at the bar, and the barmaid totally ignored me and walked off to serve the locals that she obviously knew well. The bar was empty when we joined the queue and we waited nearly 15 mins as it was, but to then be completely ghosted in favour of the locals was terrible. We walked straight out after making our feeling known to the said barmaid. It wasn’t as if everyone was stood haphazard at a busy bar. The queue was formed at the fill and she was well aware of the order of serving. It was a totally deliberate act to ignore me in favour of the regulars who had entered the bar area well after us. Made us feel very uncomfortable. Terrible way to work at a bar.

Our favourite local pub! Such a hidden gem. Great beer garden. Usually quiet but has a lovely atmosphere.

The chicken stuffed with chorizo & wrapped in bacon with a creamy sauce was absolutely beautiful. I would get a side order or chips aswell tho. Plus the beer garden out front is lush and can get hours of sunshine on the right day.

Ordered food to share and have half and half. Absolutely amazing! . Had a bottle of wine and a couple of pints between 2 of us. Chicken burger medium nandys style😂 with hone made chips (gorgeous) and chicken breast with cheese, chorizo and bacon (to die for) came to about 40 quid.

Italian restaurant
Sambuca Percy Main is a delightful culinary destination that truly shines when it comes to Italian cuisine. With an impressive menu offering great value, diners can enjoy generous portions of mouthwatering dishes without breaking the bank. The squid starter, paired with a zesty tomato and chili sauce, stands out as one of the best in town.
Excellent value food (and good quality to), especially with the meal deal available before 5pm. Staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful. I would like a few options for better craft beers, but at the end of the day you come for the food not the beer. I've been a few times and will definitely be back too.

Ordered food via Uber Eats. Choice was brilliant and very reasonably priced. For the 4 of us, having 2 courses each, it was £60. The food was absolutely delicious and huge portions, my Squid starter with a tomato and chilli sauce is up there with the best squid ive ever had. My daughter's dessert was missing,so I called the restaurant and explained. They were very apologetic and not only delivered the missing dessert with 10 minutes, they also gave 2 extra dessert, which was a lovely gesture. Can't fault their customer service. I've eaten at this restaurant a few times but tonight was first time getting a delivery. Will definitely be buying again. One of the best delivery meals ever. Thank you Sambuca Percy Main x

The perfect harmony of the Italian roasted peppers, onions, and the sambuca-infused sauce creates a culinary masterpiece of delight sense. The fried squid with sauce is a crispy ecstasy that deserves applause. You can feel the symphony of flavors dancing with the calamari.

Came for the £5.95 deal. Absolutely fantastic as always here. Great value for money, you wouldn't get all this in the supermarket for that price. Lovely staff and service as always. We'll be back.

Crazy, ordered on Uber waited 1:40 and no sign of the food even been made. I went down to get the money back and the manager said “all this for £20” Which I replied with “I have ordered something and you didn’t deliver so yes I will want my money back, I could of come in shouting I haven’t I’ve been respectful” He then said “if you came in shouting I would of took you round the back” I’m not an easily scared person at the best of times but the 4ft5” manager was not intimidating. Threatening customers is very low and you should be ashamed of yourself

I'm a big fan of the Sambuca chain being a regular at the Glass House one in Manor Walks Cramlington. However Percy Main serve the same delicious food but at better prices it is worth travelling the few extra miles to save a few quid. We will be back.

Haven Point is a leisure center in the North East that offers a variety of activities for visitors. It features waterslides, swimming pools, a gym, and dance studios. For those seeking stunning coastal views, Souter Lighthouse and The Leas are nearby attractions. History enthusiasts can explore the reconstructed Roman Fort and excavations at the World Heritage Site, Arbeia.
Lovely pool to take children of any age. Kept very clean and tidy. Plenty of changing space and showers. Nice little family rooms with shower included in the space so helpful when there are little ones to keep close watch on them so they can't run off and get hurt. Pools are a good temperature. Nice variety of things for all ages to enjoy. All round good place to go. Close to the beach too if fancied a visit there.

The staff are really friendly and helpful. The staff explained the best package to pay for to get the best value. Being a Yorkshire man this is helpful. There is two pools one with a slide and a traditional swimming pool. The centre is spotless. The gym is well equipped with up to date equipment that are really easy to use. Staffing are on hand to help. I just used the gym and pool for the week whilst I was staying nearby whilst attending a training course. The cafe is nice and has a Costa as well. When I am up this way again I will be using the centre.

Lovely gym - clean and modern, has everything you need and can easily get parking as multiple car parks (if you get a membership with permit). However, not enough mats (two) in the gym, so I and others are always waiting around! There is also a staff member who always seems to be using the gym equipment or mats rather than actually working? It would be 5 stars if more mats available or another room for this type of workout. Could get rid of some treadmills as these are loads and never all been used at once…staff aren’t very helpful either

Brilliant place for all ages to play, swim, relax it ticks the boxes. Staff are always friendly and helpful and care about your visit. The lay out is set at the edge of a park, beach over the road, boat lake on the other side it's a good day out.

Great for my early Sunday morning swim. Staff have been helpful when ive asked for help with anything. Clean toilets and changing areas. Only gripe is the little cafe doesnt open till 10 on Sundays so doesnt cover the early birds which is a shame. The cafe at Hebburn seems to open earlier. Would have been 5⭐️ otherwise.
Diane P — Google review
I very often notice that people cut their nails and scrape off skin in the sauna, creating a mess and a lot of filth. I feel absolutely disgusted in such situations. This issue was reported to the management of the leisure centre, but no action was taken. It seems that the visitors care more about hygiene than the administration does. And since the pool is regularly visited by many children, it would be appropriate to escalate this to higher authorities in order to prompt the administration to take an interest.

Jarrow Hall: Anglo-Saxon Farm, Village, and Bede Museum is a captivating destination that transports visitors back to the 7th century. Located just a short drive or quick metro ride from South Shields, this expansive site spans 11 acres and celebrates the life of Venerable Bede, often referred to as the Father of English History.
What a wonderful place. Visited when the dragons were on display, great little museum with stories of Anglo Saxon life, a farm and a replica village. My son loved it. The cafe was excellent as well, great service and nice food. Only thing I would say is it took a while to enter as only one person was on the till.

Attended for the dragon parade and had a blast! The farm, village, and museum were enough to keep an 11 and 13 year old interested from 12-4, and they didn't want to leave. It was quite busy just after the parade, but we all enjoyed it!

This place has so much potential, But no animal feed, staff looked stressed. Lady on front desk was lovley. Museum we ok. Building works going on. But lots of children doing activities in the halls/ classroom

Disappointing although inexpensive visit. Everything appeared more shabby than last year. Access to various areas was limited. The cafe is ok but we sat outside & had a relatively long wait for 3 cups of coffee. Toilet facilities are adequate but not particularly pleasant. Staff were polite & helpful. There is access to a very nice public park.

Great place for kids, there's animals and plenty of outdoor space. Cafe on sight and loads of room for picnics. Play park on sight for kids aswell. You pay once and get an annual ticket, not expensive at all.

I wanted to like this place I'd planned the visit for a couple of months while I was in the area , on entering there was workman and scaffolding, through the main entrance the fountain wasn't working and had some dirty water still in it , wasn't as historic as I imagined, a few long house styled thatched buildings , some ancient breeds of cow, sheep , goat , horse , pigs nothing much else I thought there would be reenactors explaining how it was to visitors , you've got to use your imagination it needs more information boards or interactive boards , discount for people on benefits and your ticket lasts a full year , I won't be rushing back
Mike A — Google review
We have been before but on Saturday the 13th it was an open day and free entry. There us an indoor museum and an outdoor one that represents how are ancestors would've lived during the Anglo-Saxon times. We took our grandson this time and he liked seeing the animals, the cats and goats in particular.
Fran R — Google review
The history of the venerable Bede was fascinating. His life, works and legacy. I was not aware of the "cult of Bede". Anglo Saxon village was fun, though I can see it a bigger hit with younger children. Liked the pigs! Experimental archaeologists explained about the chicken coop they were constructing. Not sure how often I would go but definitely worth it if you're fond of history and want to know what happened after the Romans.

The Priory is a charming pub and restaurant located in Tynemouth, England. Situated near the dramatic Tynemouth Priory & Castle and the picturesque Tynemouth Longsands, this delightful establishment offers a welcoming atmosphere and delicious food. The pub is known for its friendly bar staff and delectable dishes.
Increasingly my favourite place to go in Tynemouth. Good value, great people, and it's not pretending to be anything it's not. And it serves breakfasts until 3pm so you can have a proper filler and a pint for well under £15, not bad at all!
Patrick C — Google review
We wandered up and down Front Street, Tynemouth, on a miserably cold day. We looked in the door and the place looked warm and welcoming. There were a few other customers, but at 5:30 on a cold Thursday evening it was welcoming to see other diners. The menu was small but as it was titled 'Winter Warmers' it was what we wanted to see. The staff were very friendly and our order was soon taken. Our food arrived in a reasonable time. We were not disappointed. I had dumplings, mince, chips and peas. The better half had scampi and chips. Portion sizes were pleasing. The cost was similar to other eateries we had looked at prior to choosing 'The Priory'. All in all it was a teatime success.

Waited over an hour for food and it was awful. I had beef chilli with rice. The chilli tasted like tinned and rice out of a bag. Lukewarm too!. My partner had a prawn salad and said it was the worst she'd ever had. If we were told it would be a long wait for food we could've gone somewhere else. Wish we had. AVOID!
Derek S — Google review
Don’t normally write reviews but experience was so bad thought I’d better. Went in on a Tuesday so was quite quiet. Ordered a pizza and a chicken salad as they had ran out of a few other things on the menu. Took over an hour for the kitchen to serve up a pizza and a salad!! Bar staff didn’t seem bothered when we said that was pretty poor service. Food was rubbish as well. Other tables were starting to complain about their wait as we were leaving. Tables, menus etc were all sticky and dirty. Would avoid and go elsewhere, lots of choice nearby. Surprised it’s able to stay open in that location with how bad it is.

Staff (spot on) Atmosphere (spot on) Food (really inedible) Me and my friend got fish fingers, chips, mushy peas, salad, coleslaw and bread. Fish fingers were disgusting. Fish! Definitely not. And, the batter was thick and very greasy. Chips would have been spot on if they weren't so greasy too. I honestly could of squeezed the grease out of the fish fingers and the chips. Mushy peas (nice) Coleslaw (nice) Salad (erm, basic) Overall, disappointed is being polite. For the main street in Tynemouth, it's shameful to serve such bad quality food. Pub food is pub food, and that's ok, but this put pub food to shame. In all honesty, we will never go back. We just wouldn't risk giving them a second chance; it was that bad. The fish fingers and the chips are the main part of the plate; yet they were the worst.
Ray M — Google review
Popped in for a drink and something to eat. Settled on the breakfast. While it was ok I did receive a snotty egg and would much prefer menu to state if it's fresh or tinned tomatoes. If tinned tomatoes then the toast should arrive on a separate plate as it gets soaked from the tomato juice. The atmosphere was quite dull. The place is very dusty. Couldn't believe how dusty it was. Mainly up a height around all the bulbs and shades and the big canopy around the door. Cleaner obviously needs a feather duster.
Jimmy M — Google review
Took ages to be served a starter and some chips, the chef came out of the kitchen to tell us they had run out of part of the dish and he would add extra of other ingredients unfortunately his body odour was terrible and his chefs uniform disgusting he also had a beard that was not covered up. At this point we read the most recent reviews and started to be worried but as we had already paid we waited the food came out and it was very poor, burnt garlic bread without garlic, undercooked chips, luke warm chicken strips, greasy onion rings with raw onion served by a bar member who had the personality of a lamp post and the other plates served by the chef with the stale body odour, it put us off eating all we could do was laugh at how bad it was and regret coming in. Don't want to be mean about the chef he was very polite as a person but his personal hygiene made us worry about the hygiene in the kitchen this wasn't smell from working in a hot kitchen it was smell of not washing over a period of time, we left the food without eating 😞

Longsands Fish Kitchen is a popular seafood restaurant situated in Tynemouth, offering an array of freshly caught fish and seafood dishes alongside vegetarian and gluten-free options. The cozy atmosphere makes it a hit with kids, while the diverse menu caters to various tastes.
Day trip out to the coast so decided to have fish and chips for lunch. This was nice discovery. Located in the middle of the town of Tynemouth it serves fresh fried fish with good selection of sides. I had the Haddock. A very nice touch is the board showing where the fish and potatoes are sourced from including names of fisherman and farmers!

One of the best fish and chips spots in Tynemouth! The service is friendly and efficient, perfect for a quick meal. While the restaurant is clean and conveniently close to the beach, seating is limited, there are only a couple of outdoor tables, and the indoor area often has a long queue. The price is reasonable also. Your best bet? Grab a takeaway and enjoy it by the water!

Absolutely outstanding! Longstands Fish Kitchen is easily one of the best seafood spots around. The fish was perfectly fresh, beautifully cooked, and full of flavor — crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. The chips were golden perfection, and the portions generous. The staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely cared about making the experience great. You can taste the quality and passion in every bite. If you love great seafood and friendly service, this place is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back again and again!

Probably the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Very light crispy batter and the cod was so fresh. Love that they have a board with who caught the fish and where ( no prizes for guessing North Atlantic ) The squid was also amazing. We were wishing we had room to try the sticky toffee pudding but the generous portions meant we were too full. Great place - glad we booked as they were busy

There’s a reason this place has award-winning chippies! I had the cod fish & chips (~£15), and my friend got the haddock with mushy peas add-on (£17 ish, I think), and both were AMAZING. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the tartare and chilli sauce took it to the next level. Didn’t even need salt or pepper—flavours were spot on! The staff were so lovely, like someone give them a raise lol 😭 I didn't get their names but they were two girls working on 16 Mar about 12-1 PM ish. Also, I got lucky getting a table without a booking, but I saw quite a few people turned away because it was full. If you want to secure a seat, definitely book ahead! Much love from Manchester! ❤️

Visitor from the States here! (Philadelphia/New York area, so I know good food!) The food was so good I never stopped chewing to take pictures! We started out with the fried cheese, pineapple fritters and tiger prawns with chili jam and I was already floored. The prawns were large and juicy and sauce was perfect! The pineapple fritters were a new and cool idea that went over well with kids and adults alike. I love that they mark vegetarian and gluten free options on their menu. I was torn between the fish and chips everyone raved about and the tiger prawn curry because I love a good curry sauce, so the owner recommended the fish and chips with curry sauce on the side and OMG! My mouth was so delighted! I chose haddock over cod as I had just had cod recently and the fish was so fresh and absolutely cooked to perfection. I couldn’t waste one bite of batter or fish being dipped in the curry and mushy peas together. This has got to be the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. With or without sauce every bite was amazing. The chips are thick and well prepared. Even though I didn’t have one bit of room left my friend and I indulged in dessert. He got the apple crumble crème brûlée that was on Special and I got the sticky coffee pudding with ice cream. We couldn’t decide which one was better but they were both on our top 10 list of dessert. Such a fantastic experience. The service was incredible and the place is cute and very very clean. Even the bathrooms at the end of the day. I might make trips back to the UK just to visit this place!

Colmans Fish and Chips is a family-run restaurant with over 25 years of experience, known for its traditional menu offering sustainably-sourced cod, lemon sole, squid, and Whitby scampi. It's an institution in the North East and attracts long queues on special occasions like Good Friday and after events like the Great North Run. The restaurant has a sit-down area while also offering takeaways.
Best fish and chips in town. Beautiful fresh fish with light batter. Freshly cooked chips that are crispy not soggy. Portions are very generous (can definitely share a portion of chips). The batter on both the scampi and the sausage are light, not heavy and not at all greasy. There is a takeaway attached to the restaurant serving the same classics, same quality and taste. Perfect for a summers day or a cold winters night.

Quiet when we visited but the staff were so helpful (wheelchair user) in many ways. Food was from the new menu and there was. A wide choice( too many with cheese automatically included but thats a personal quirk as I hate cheeese). Food tasty plates cleared

Stopped in the premier inn next door and had the meal deal included. I was a bit dubious as the beefeater chains are a lot better, and i am not the biggest fan of brewers fayre. However, it was better than most I have been to. I suppose it's just luck off the draw who's cooking. The mixed grill was pretty good, and the breakfast the next day was also. Only negatives were the coffee machine wasn't working and had a fault on it. This was attempted to be fixed by the staff unfortunately unsuccessfully.

A much better visit this time, all of the staff we encountered were fabulous. There was a big holdup on ordering our food because the staff member was assisting a customer to redeem multiple vouchers from one meal or group of people which meant he had to check multiple invoices from previous days but this wasn't a problem so long as we got served! We did, and the food was lovely. Hot and fresh with attentive staff making sure everything was ok. A sea change to our last visit!

The cinema's commitment to community is evident through its innovative 'Pay As You Please' ticket pricing system introduced in 2019, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the magic of film without financial barriers.
Heard a lot of great reviews about this lovely cinema, so called by just for a drink and weigh it up for myself. Beautiful experience, even if it was only for a drink. Staff were very friendly and informative. Social seating area and toilets were lovely and clean. I will definitely call here to see my next film.

Love this place anyway but the new decor makes it even better. A little gem for Whitley Bay. Whoever is running it knows what they are doing and I only hope people support it; use it or loose it!!! It would even just be a lovely venue for a drink tbh. The staff are so nice, the bar well stocked and very nice indeed and even I didn't wince at the prices!

Fantastic cinema. Very warm and inviting. Excellent staff. Great choice of drinks and snacks. The screens only sit about 30 people which I find perfect for the cinematic experience. The picture quality and sound quality is excellent.

Wonderful quirky volunteer run cinema. Very reasonable ticket and refreshments prices

Lovely little cinema. Friendly staff and really reasonable prices for snacks and drinks! Has a lift for those that struggle with stairs which is lovely then the rest of the place is on one floor so nice and accessible. Love the tiered ticket system to allow donations for those that may struggle to see things in cinema usually. Can't wait to bring my family to watch something here next time they visit. Would highly recommend

If you live in Whitley bay and like watching movies and you have not been here you should be ashamed of yourself. This is a great little place. It shows all the latest movies, has a relaxed atmosphere and fair prices snacks. Most of all though the cinematic experience is really, really good. So next time you want to go to the cinema, instead of going to the major chain places try this and I bet you have a good time.

Fabulous, quirky, loved it. Got sofa seat at the front and was so comfy....first time ever 2hr30min film didn't feel long at all... so much leg room. If disabled, lift up to first floor, seat at front. Staff were so friendly and helpful

Great little cinema. Well stocked bar, clean facilities, friendly staff. A mix of seating in the screen is nice, offering settees as well as standard seats.

King Edwards Bay, the smaller and sheltered beach nearby, hosts the monthly Feel Good Swim Club. After a day of surfing or swimming, visitors can enjoy delicious food and cold drinks at Rileys Fish Shack while watching the sunset on the sand.
Fantastic group lesson for a stag do party! The warm-up games at the beginning were fun and well-organised, and were a great way to get everyone mixing. The surf instruction was explained really clearly. When we got into the water the instructors were incredibly helpful and friendly, giving us tips and physically guiding us at the right time to catch the waves. They were great at helping and motivating everyone, from the less-confident beginners to those who'd surfed quite a bit. Really great experience. Would highly recommend!

Aye aye fellow Googlers, today i start to fulfil another promise i made to myself back in March this year when i started this latest fight to get my mobility back, there are many promises i made back then like climb a mountain, get sea kayaking qualifications and learning to surf amongst others even more fanciful, the learning to surf one was almost like a joke as at the time i couldn't stand for long without using a walking cane. Well it is now 4 months later and I am 49 lbs lighter than i was in March and for the first time in over a decade i walked 3.5 mile yesterday without my cane, it took me 1hr 20 minutes according to my gps but to me that was like rocket speed, especially when all i had to do to alleviate the pain and discomfort caused to my underlying spine injury was 30 minutes of gentle yoga when i got home. So today I figured since i can stand and walk a bit it was time to start learning to surf, I had my first ever surfing lesson today and it is luckily with the professionals at Tynemouth Surf Co run by Louis Thomas-Hudson, former captain of team GB Junior surf team, i wore my gopro mounted on my wrist to capture the day for posterity, it was so much hard work but a lot of fun and worth the pain i am in right now. My session was run by Jordan and Sam and they were totally spot on, very encouraging and patient with the group of all beginners today and before long they had us all catching waves and having a great time, you'd think you'd be freezing in the North Sea but by the time we had done the warm up i was ready to get in the water just to cool off, I genuinely can't wait to go back, you might be able to tell from my pictures how much fun i had, you decide, personally i thought it was 30 quid well spent in my book (for the 2 hours beginner surf lessons and all the kit needed hired). Thanks again lads i'll see you all soon.

Absolutely brilliant lesson today! Surf instructors Si and Jim were amazing! Me, my daughter (age 10), and my aunty thought it was the best thing ever. Never stopped smiling. We did it for my daughter’s birthday and she said this is the best birthday present ever!!! You guys did a brilliant job. Loved every minute! Will definitely be back!!! My daughter was amazing and stood up loads, I stood up a few times too! Thank you!!

Fantastically stocked surf shop situated above an incredible beach. A couple days ago coming to the end of a lush swell day, my van decided to throw a wobbly locking me, a post-surf icicle still suited an booted, out in the rapidly descending darkness. The amazing Angela leapt into action, helping me to work out a solution to the problem (and providing me with a place to drip out of the cold). I turned up in despair, and left with me heart full of kindness, thank you all so much, I'll be back!

Huscrofts Decorative Salvage Ltd is a reputable company known for its exceptional service in clearing properties with years of clutter. They are committed to environmental sustainability, ensuring minimal waste goes to landfill by rehoming furniture, donating clothes to charity, and recycling materials. The team is praised for their professionalism, friendliness, and efficiency in handling sensitive situations with compassion and dignity. Additionally, the shop offers a delightful selection of lighting and other unique items while providing friendly and knowledgeable service.
Hushcrofts have done an exceptional job of clearing my late mother's house. It has been a stressful time but Max and his team have been friendly and professional and taken a huge weight off our shoulders. They were fast, efficient and considerate throughout and as a company they are competitively priced and do their best to give things a second life and avoid landfill by donating items to charity as well as selling what they can to bring the price down for their customers - this is great for the environment but also for our peace of mind! A brilliant company for any clearance needs - highly recommended!

Max and his team are extremely professional taking all the stress out of house clearance. They acted in a considerate and efficient manner sorting all my house contents for charities with minimal landfill. Communication was excellent and he phased my clearance over 2 stages to stage the house for sale. Good value for money too. Highly highly recommended.

Huscrofts did a great job clearing my late mother's home. Max is very professional and did things in a caring and sensitive way at what was a difficult time for us. He has a great network of contacts to arrange for things to be reused or disposed of responsibly, if necessary. We highly recommend Huscrofts.
Mark S — Google review
Max and the team in North Shields are extremely polite and professional people. In Sep-2023 They cleared my home quickly and efficiently at short notice, as taking the items via a removal firm was extremely costly! Highly recommended! 5 stars from me :)
Mark M — Google review
An unbelievable service from Max and the team. We hired Huscroft to completely clear a large 4 bed Victorian property, with decades upon decades of clutter. The result is phenomenonal- it looks like a different house. And very climate conscious, with very little going to landfill. All furniture is rehomed to good causes, clothes to charity to support charity work, woods and metals recycled, small furniture to be upcycled by local businesses. Honestly couldn't have asked for a better job done. It was an absolutely amazing transformation for the property, done within an unbelievable time frame, friendly and courteous. Thank you.

Disappointed to learn they are hurting wildlife with the netting that kills birds and refusing to discuss the issue. We were using your store but no more

If you read up the reviews you'll find a trend, lots of customers have their orders either delayed or totally missing. I ordered the last item on the stock before it was all sold out, I was really looking forward to it and somehow Next delivered it to a wrong stock and now it's missing, they cannot track it anymore. How is it even possible this day and age where you pretty much scan from one place to another. Surely, they can tell me where the item was last located and ask that store, I'm seriously put off by it now, left such bad taste that I won't recommend their online or not bothering to buy anything from them either, shockingly bad service from Next.

Would just like to thank the two lovely ladies that were working til 6.30 thurs 5th May . The most horrible customer service and store I ever been before. Paying such money and even when collecting parcels didn’t receive correct amount of bags and items. It’s a joke to come back one more time to store to collect second parcel again, pay for parking and fuel one more time and waste my time for it. Never will order in this shop again.

Extremely angry. Ordered a pair of Vivianne Westwoods, due to come on Tuesday sometime after 12pm. My mum went to pick it up and it wasn't there. I was looking forward to wearing these but I am fuming. I should have my order! Absolutely horrendous. Never experienced this from Next, the delivery is always good, but I am the most disappointed I've been in a while.

The Saltwater Tavern

Pub
Nestled in a charming locale, The Saltwater Tavern is a delightful transformation of the former Staithe House, which sadly closed its doors after lockdown. This dog-friendly pub welcomes furry companions with open arms and offers an array of treats for them. For humans, there's an impressive selection of real ales and cocktails to enjoy. The Saltwater Tavern has garnered accolades for its exceptional Sunday roasts—truly some of the best around!
It's easy to see why this lovely little pub has won so many awards (including a Michelin Bib Gourmand award) - it's been the best Sunday roast we've had to date! The 'Yorkies' are almost as big as your head. The beef and lamb were both tender and cooked perfectly. And the veggies are a step ahead of the competition. There's also a specific vegetarian menu if needed. Service was friendly and efficient, and I really appreciated being asked how we wanted the meat. Given how busy they get for Sunday lunch (customers were being turned away), I'd certainly recommend making a booking. Even being fully booked, there was still ample parking on site when we arrived. There's no specific kids menu, but they do a half serve of the roast if you're dragging any little ones along (and it was still probably big enough for a lot of adults). Unfortunately we were only passing through, but if I'm ever back in the area, I'll definitely be back for a second helping!

A lovelly bar serving great beer ales and spirits. We visit regularly during the day and sit and have a nice drink. The staff are lovelly . You can sit inside or outside in comfortable seating but still feeling like you have plenty of space . Prices are to be expected for the area not cheap but not too high . A very relaxing place

Really lovely dinner on Thursday night. Nice atmosphere, nice aesthetic, and ambience. Visually satisfying. Nice food and nice attentive and caring staff.

All hype and a waste of money. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY Had a table booked on last night for 7 people. We were squished in to a booth and a single chair at the end (booth should really only be for 4 adults if you want to really eat and drink). The menu is support expensive for what it is providing. I got the half duck and pancakes to share with my wife for £20. The duck was horrible and it wasn't shredded how it should be, instead it was burnt and in chunks which needed working on before you could put into a pancake. Honestly, you can get a half duck pancake sent from all supermarkets now for under £7 and it would be much better. Drinks were flowing so I ordered a pina colada to join in but normally I'm not much of a drinker. They have me pineapple juice and argued there was alcohol in it but eventually the amazing waitress sorted it out. After 30 minutes of finishing 3 starters I had to ask them to clear the table and were ready for mains. We sat down around 18.00 to 18.30 as a group... at 21.00 we still didn't have our mains. Before this we noticed there was something wrong bendy no one was eating in the restaurant. We booked a table across the road and started putting on our coats etc when the main course came out at 21.05. We really wish we just stuck our ground and just left and went to the other restaurant. The food was utter trash. All our dishes lacked flavour. We all left all our food half done and just wanted to get out of the nightmare. The manager came over and did his best with his discounts but we still ended up giving them £200 as we understand it wasn't all the staffs fault but that is still a hard pill to swallow when you spend £200 to sit there for 3 hours and not get any good food to show for it. This place needs to stop focusing on being a party restaurant and actually start making proper food with taste and not serve out dishwater and unseasoned meats. Such a shame but the place has gone down hill and needs to stop scamming people. Worst dining experience I've had in my life but mcdonalds on the way home saved my night.

I was just looking around Tynemouth for somewhere to have dinner and on a whim entered the Buddha Lounge and Restaurant. From the get go the experience was great. Quick, attentive and very efficient staff. The drinks were fairly well prepared. I would certainly use less ice in some of the drinks. The food on the other hand was just what I was looking for. On my first visit I went for the Thai options and on the second, Chinese. Both were very well prepared and every morsel was delicious.

Very impressed by the Buddha Lounge! We didn't have a reservation but the welcoming staff found us a table within a minute despite it being busy. All the staff were friendly and very attentive.
