The marina and waterfront offer opportunities for sailing, seaside dining, and sunset walks.
With favorites like Gostilna Beli Križ, Pizzerija in špageterija Paco, and Tartinijev trg, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. Tartinijev trg, also known as Tartini Square, is a charming and bustling square located in the heart of the town. The central monument is dedicated to Giuseppe Tartini, a renowned composer and violinist from the area. Surrounding the square are historic buildings such as the Church of St Peter and Tartini House, where the composer was born. Visitors can explore narrow streets typical of Istrian towns and enjoy stunning views from the nearby Church of St. George.
Absolutely loved this place. It was the cleanest town I've been to not a piece of litter anywhere, lots of history, lots of bars and places to eat. It has a lovely harbour which leads onto a square where you can sit and just watch the world go by. There is a place where you can see 3 countries from, Italy, Croatia and of course Slovenia. Highly recommend a visit

A beautiful square in Piran, with plenty of cafes, restaurants and cute shops around the square. A very large area where children can play safely with a view of the harbor and the sea and the surrounding historical buildings of the old town of Piran. The true spirit of a coastal town!
Sveto R — Google review
Gorgeous square, perfect to explore and enjoy the sunshine. Enjoy the cafes and restaurants or explore the cobbled picturesque streets.

Tartini Square (Slovene: Tartinijev trg) is the largest and main town square in Piran, Slovenia. It is named after the famous violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini, who was born in Piran. The square is a vibrant pedestrian area, surrounded by historic buildings. It serves as a social and cultural hub of Piran, hosting concerts and events, with cafes, restaurants, and shops around its perimeter. The design provides scenic views of the Adriatic Sea and the surrounding hills.
Kevin A — Google review
Lovely square with plenty of free parking for motorbikes. The harbour was also very beautiful, sadly in motorbike clothing and 40 degree heat, we didn't stay long but would love to revisit one-day.

Tartini's square in the City of Piran, Slovenia, is a beautiful example of Mediterranean city urban planning that nailed it. People of all ages enjoy spending time there. It is vibrant all day long. Great views - to the marina, the sea, surrounding buildings, monument of Tartini, shops, caffees and restaurants, a lot of benches to just sit and relax while you get amused just by looking at people of all ages doing their thing. It is a real jam for photographers and a great place to make a tone of different selfies.

I had the baklava ice cream and hands down it was the best ice cream I've ever tasted - my partner agreed and he is an ice cream fanatic! Highly recommend, amazing ice cream and lovely friendly service too.

Nothing special. A square with some caffees and restaurants. Okay view, so if you are around it's worth a visit, but I wouldnt travel there just for this purpose.

Nature & Parks
Akvarij Piran is a spacious and well-maintained aquarium on the Slovenian coast. It showcases a diverse range of marine species, including fish, vertebrates, and other creatures from the Adriatic Sea. The tanks are backlit and feature pictures of the animals inside, while visitors can also view the ruins of an old church through a glass floor. The aquarium is family-friendly with a ledge for children to stand on for better viewing.
OK. No dolphins or sharks, of course. Nice aquarium in historic building. Which displays adriatic sea life of the small and amazing creatures, nicely! And I got personal info about from Max 🙏👍. that mad a difference to SeaLife 😄
Torsten S — Google review
Quite small for the entrance fee but it has some nice fish to look at, most of them are local in Slovenia. The explanations are partly also in English but very small to read. With air conditioning. Toilet and diaper changing place for babies.
María A — Google review
It's been renovated since my last visit, but it still needs more investment. It's relatively small and what was my main issue, was that the description tags were not lit, so it was hard/impossible to read what's on it in a dark room with illuminated aquaries. Overall, the staff was nice and there were some interesting sea animals on display. Still, I'd wish for more.
E V — Google review
Definitely worth the admission price when visiting Piran area. This small aquarium is very well maintained and has fabulous tanks displays of the local Adriatic Sea life that you’d encounter just right outside their door. It will take about a half hour to walk the displays. Best in the mornings to avoid crowds. We learned a lot about the local area and were able to identify fish we had seen swimming earlier.
Tim F — Google review
A smaller aquarium, with a couple of interesting sea animals. Could be a bit bigger, you can go through it in 15min. Entry of €7 could be a bit cheaper given the size but the animals need the food
Jaroslav M — Google review
A cute little aquarium with many different types of fish, slightly small but very advantageous pricing 🐟🐠🐟🐠🐟🐠🐟

Restaurant
Fritolin Pri Cantini is a laid-back restaurant located in central Piran, offering delicious seafood dishes such as grilled calamari and octopus. It is known for serving fresh, local seafood at reasonable prices, making it a popular choice among both locals and tourists. For those looking for a slightly fancier dining experience, La Bottega Dei Sapori in Tartini Square offers Italian-inspired fare like risotto with shrimp and black truffles.
A unique experience, but an unforgettable vibe and delicious food! Just a bit too many pigeons waiting for leftovers for my taste, but what can you do! Got the recommendation to visit from locals and it definitely paid off! Check out other comments on how the ordering of food and drinks work, it's a bit unique but works perfectly well
Mike A — Google review
A very charming concept – you order your food at the window and pick it up yourself, while drinks are served directly to your table. In my case, the wait for food was about 30 minutes, but with such a small number of tables and everything being freshly prepared, it’s definitely worth it. The lady working in the kitchen, who was also taking and handing out orders, came across a bit unfriendly – but honestly, given the heat and the number of guests, it’s understandable. We all have tough days sometimes, and it doesn’t affect my overall impression. The atmosphere was relaxed and authentic, and the food – especially the grilled sardines – was delicious. Highly recommended!
Piotr — Google review
Good fish and fried squid — well-prepared and tasty! The €34 portion easily serves 3 people and is served with a delicious sauce. We ordered grilled sea bass, but it seemed to be fried instead, which was disappointing. The tuna comes with polenta by default, but we asked for fries instead. The ginger beer was a highlight — very good! Best to go outside peak hours — we had dinner at 9 PM on a Saturday and had no trouble getting a table or placing our order.
Manuela B — Google review
Fried mixed seafood platter. The anchovies was not piping hot n had gone soft no longer crunchy which was a letdown as we were looking forward to having it with our beer wine. Baked Mussels was fresh but over baked n slightly dry. Atmosphere was great thou if it's not too cold a night.
Timmy C — Google review
Although it seemed that it’s a nice lovely place as previous reviews stated, only half of it is true. The place and the food was OK but nobody mentions that you’d have to wait for your food to be prepared for more than an hour or so. First, you have to pay for the drinks separately and also for the food separately. When we ask the lady who served us the drinks why the duration of the food preparing is so long she said come on it’s prepared freshly and it’s normal, I guess it isn’t normal But it’s up for the people to decide. Before taking a seat, I’d look around and see how many people are there waiting for their food assuming that the waiting time will be long or short.
Fanni V — Google review
What a find! We're first not sure about the place, but eventually decided to give it a go. And, oh man, delighted that we did. The service was fast and the food was mouthwatering. We had their biggest seafood plate and it was soo good that we ordered extra calamari. Polenta was lovely, too. Incredible value. Absolutely recommended!
Nataliia — Google review
Best hole-in-the-wall fish restaurant we’ve been to, not just in Piran! It has an interesting concept, you wait to get a table assigned from the water (which is from the bar next door, they work together). Only then you can order at the window and after paying (for the food only, you pay the waiter before leaving for the drinks directly) you get a small shell with a number for your order. Then from time to time they are hanging the numbers up on a string for all orders that are ready (they usually do a couple at the same time). Food is excellent, prices are descent. Only the pigeons are a bit aggressive looking for food.
Andreas W — Google review
Delicious food. Gets too crowded and finding a seat becomes an issue especially with staff asking people to line up in the square (no queue). After sitting down, order at the window and enjoy

The Walls of Piran are an ancient and fortified stone town wall with several notable gates, which have been renovated since the 7th century. The walls have undergone changes over time due to the city's expansion, resulting in the preservation of three different walls and seven city gates. While some areas have deteriorated, much of the original construction from between the 7th and 15th centuries remains intact.
Even though the path to the walls is a bit more challenging, the view is definitely worth it. Mostly narrow / steep stairs, not good for people with physical handicap. Good value for money. You can pay with card.
Janali X — Google review
Amazing views over the sea and the town. Cheap entry, only costs €3 per person. It is well worth the walk and the visit. There are a lot of steep steps to climb the towers but the view is great and it is a unique experience.
Viktória É — Google review
The tickets were so cheap, we had a great view of the city from the tower, a bit small for tall people such as myself but nevertheless it was great
Bálint K — Google review
Best 3 Euros spent. Not only is it interesting to explore the walls of the former fortress that protected Piran from enemies approaching it from the landslide, it also has the very best views of Piran to offer. For an obstructed view it’s best to go to almost the end of the wall and be careful on the ladders and stairs, it’s easy to hit your head !
Andreas W — Google review
The Walls of Piran are the defensive walls surrounding the coastal town of Piran, built in the 7th century. Some walls and towers can be accessed for a small entrance fee. It also offers the beautiful panoramic views of the coastal town and Adriatic sea.
Kevin A — Google review
The wall of the city of Piran, known as the “Piransko obzidje”, is one of the most famous symbols of this picturesque historic town on the Slovenian coast. Its history dates back from the 7th century to the early 16th century, serving as protection for the town against invasions, especially during the Ottoman incursions and the period of Venetian rule. Historical Facts and Interesting Details The first phase of fortification was built as early as the 7th century and originally enclosed only the oldest core of the town. As the city grew, the wall was extended several times – the second phase was added during the Venetian rule (late 13th century), and the third and largest in the 15th and 16th centuries due to the threat of the Ottoman Empire. The fortification included three separate sections of walls and seven town gates, most of which are still preserved today. The best-preserved part, with towers, is located on Morgoron Hill southeast of the center, offering a stunning panoramic view of the entire town of Piran, the Adriatic Sea, the Bay of Trieste, and on clear days, even Croatia and Italy. The wall is characterized by Venetian Gothic architecture, later with elements of the Renaissance style. Visiting the Piran Town Wall Today The wall is open to the public daily, usually from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM (summer schedule), with last entry shortly before sunset. The view of the sunset over the sea from here is spectacular. Admission is €3 for adults, less for students, and children under 12 enter for free. Dogs are not allowed. Visitors can climb several towers, but should be prepared for narrow, sometimes uneven and steep stairs. Not suitable for individuals with significant mobility issues. Sturdy footwear is recommended. Legend of Piran and Experience There’s a local legend about the “Witch of Piran,” who was said to protect the town from enemies by conjuring up storms over the sea. Walking along the wall offers not only a journey through history but also unforgettable views and the perfect spot to photograph iconic red rooftops and the turquoise sea. Piran is considered one of the most beautiful examples of a Mediterranean historic fortified town, and its wall is among the most visited places in Slovenia – a must-see for lovers of history and photography. Beach club
The lounge Club Alaya is situated in an ideal location, offering a spacious environment suitable for large groups or couples seeking relaxation. Although the prices may not be favored by all, the establishment serves quality drinks. It is highly recommended to visit this venue, especially considering its proximity to a beach. During the day, it functions as a nice beach club and transforms into a vibrant nightlife club at night.
This place have the best parties, as a profesional party animal, I’ve been in several places around the globe and this was one of my favorite, all staff speak English and super kind, if you don’t know what to order they can guide you with expertise along the different cocktails they offer. Price range above the medium range but it’s worth it! Quality is something you will appreciate here, they have shishas in different flavors. Payments are super effective. I was here for two nights :) each day hardcore than the previous

Staff was very slow only two waiters for all tables outside. And even messed up our order. Shisha had very light flavour. Definitely not worth during week. Maybe weekends are better.

Both the hookah and the drinks were just fine but the service was great! Energy and atmosphere by the water were excellent! Cool experience overall & we'd do it again.

Very nice exotic bar in Portoroz with nice music, good service & excellent cocktails with see view.
Miki O — Google review
The music, amazing. The entertainment, beyond this world. The servy ladies ate us alll up. The cocktails were very nice and able to withstand even a dash of Matej's grandpa's slivovica. The vibes have never been better at any club I've ever been to, thanks to our beautiful man-friends and their terrible friends. No drink tastes better than one got for free by the grace of Eva's serves. My only complaint is that the closing time of 3AM is faaar too early. The loyalty can be tasted on everyone's tongues. I would give my heart and soul to Alaya, if it burns down again I will be there in about 2 days to rebuild it with my own hands. Thank you so dearly to everyone involved in the entertainment planning and management and to the wonderful staff. I miss you, and I love you.

Pizzerija in špageterija Paco 2 is a delightful establishment with an enchanting ocean vista. The staff is exceedingly amiable and proficient in English, making ordering a breeze. The pizza, known as the "4 cheese," boasts copious amounts of deliciously melted cheese and possesses a simple yet delectable flavor. Its prompt service aligns perfectly with the current season, while also accommodating credit card payments.
Wonderful nice place with sea view. Very friendly service, you can order in English. Pizza had a lot of cheese (called 4 cheese), simple and tasty. Perfect timing due to season. Accept credit cards. Highly recommended!

I came to this restaurant for the first time 17 years ago and I used to stop by from time to time. it was never high-end food, but everything was simple and ok. this is my first time after the Corona virus and I don't think I will come again. I would like to mention that the service was excellent and that the waiters were very kind. capesante was ok, a little too oily for me. the caprese was very bad, tasteless tomatoes, the worst mozzarella and olives that have no taste. sea bream was properly cooked but not salted.
Sanja P — Google review
It is a popular place here, offering a wide selection of dishes and drinks. Some dishes are very tasty, but others require a better refinement (e.g. fish soup should have larger pieces of fish instead of fish dust, pizza - the dough is average). The atmosphere and the service are friendly.
Jarek M — Google review
My stuffed squid with cheese was good. It's worth the price. I didn't have to wait long to receive my order. But waiters could have been more welcoming. Overall experience was good 😊

This restaurant deserves a “-“ rating. It is located on the beach which makes it convenient but everything else is not that well. We were there on a normal day and we were sitting out as soon as there was some wind the waiter just came and removed the shade from above us without any warning. The disaster was the food. It is so expensive but the quality and taste were awful. The presentation of the food was well done but that was it. I would never recommended this restaurant.

Fine dining restaurant
COB, located in the stunning Portoroz Bay, offers an enchanting view from its terrace, especially at sunset. Chef Filip Matjaz presents a 9-course tasting menu that takes you on a gastronomic adventure through Slovenian Istria. Each dish is complemented by a compelling story and wine accompaniment by his brother Patrik.
A unique and personal dining experience in Portorož COB is more than just a fine dining restaurant – it’s a full journey, guided not only by the chef but by the entire team. The waiters add a personal touch, sharing stories and insights that make the experience feel warm and memorable. We visited as a family with kids, and were genuinely impressed by how naturally they were included in the evening – something you rarely see at this level. The menu is organized by country, where -of course - you need a culinary passport, which made the meal feel like an adventure. Highlights for us were the signature olive dish and the artichoke corn taco – both creative and full of flavor. And the seawater cocktail? Unexpected and refreshingly good! Highly recommend COB if you’re looking for something truly special in Portorož.
Martin K — Google review
A true, unpredictable surprise. A minimalistic location with a stunning view over the small bay of Portorož, moonlight reflections shimmering on the water, night birds in flight, the sound of crickets, pure tranquility. Once welcomed and seated for the aperitif on the terrace, you are served an extraordinary and unusual “salad” (which, as you can see from the first photo, is not really a salad at all) – a truly original welcome from the house, paired with local sparkling wine. (The wine list is entirely focused on Slovenian products, each carefully matched to their international counterparts.) After moving to the dining table and choosing the most suitable wine for the tasting journey (in our case, Donna Regina, a fantastic rosé sparkling), you are given mock passports stamped with the COB logo, and the long culinary journey around the world begins. The very young Chef Filip Matjaž reinterprets iconic dishes he has tasted during his gastronomic travels both within and beyond our continent. Each dish comes with a different-colored stamp, representing its country of origin, imprinted one by one on your new “passport of taste.” Tasting Outside the Box is the real revelation: atmosphere, warmth, humility, courage, satisfaction. An experience to try at least once. Cooking Outside the Box! THANK YOU. Mr. V. BORGIA & DIVA

COB, Portorož » My visit: July 2024 » Total score: 4.5/5 – good to very good » Comment: Overall, I enjoyed the food: I would point out an outstanding intermediate course with scallop and parsnip, the excellent main course with beef and ricotta and the no less excellent dessert. However, there were some aspects that I didn't like so much: - I would describe an intermediate course with gnocchi as nondescript/ meaningless. - No bread was served with the menu - I missed it several times. - I found it a little disappointing that the restaurant only served one course with seafood (scallops) and only one dish with meat (beef). Considering the fact that you eat with a view of the sea, I particularly missed a fish dish. I thought the presentation of the food was very good and would particularly like to highlight the excellent use of many "special effects" - one or two of which were even a first for me. Moreover, I would describe the tableside procedures as no less excellent - probably the best I have experienced. (For example, the team prepared two dishes at the table, using elaborate cooking methods and equipment I had never seen before.) 1|112|64 ===== My ratings for this gourmet restaurant in detail: ●● Service – 4.9/5 – outstanding: ● Hospitality, friendliness, obligingness, etc.: 4.9/5 ● Atmosphere, temper, facilitation, etc.: 4.8/5 ●● Food – 4.6/5 – still very good: ● Flavors (range, depth, composition, harmony/balance, etc.): 4.7/5 ● Level (thoroughness, craftsmanship, originality, exclusivity, variety of impressions, consistency/diversity, etc.): 4.7/5 ● Choices: 3.0/5 ●● Beverages, mainly the wines – 4.8/5 – very good: ● Taste (depth/range, length, complexity, balance, accessibility, elegance, intensity/subtlety, etc.): 4.7/5 ● Level (variety/novelty of impressions, consistency/diversity, exclusivity, etc.): 4.8/5 ● Did the beverages (mainly the wines) match the dishes?: 4.9/5 ● Choices: 4.2/5 ●● Presentation of the food – 4.8/5 – very good: ● Textures and (differences in) temperatures: 4.4/5 ● Colors and decorations: 4.5/5 ● Timing and sequencing as well as sizes of portions: 4.8/5 ● Special effects (positionings, DIY-effects, sculptural or thematic elements, surprises, color and motion effects, fake effects, olfactory effects, fog or smoke effects, etc.): 5.0/5 ● Procedures at and around the table (attunements and explanations, elements added/changed, service and staffing intensity, involvement of kitchen team, orchestrated dish presentations, preparations and dishes (partially) built up at the table, etc.): 5.0/5 ●● Presentation of beverages, mainly the wines – 4.7/5 – very good: ● Procedures at and around the table (explanations and attunements, etc.): 4.7/5 ● Quantities poured as well as timing in relation to the dishes: 4.8/5 ●● Premises and location – 4.5/5 – good to very good: ● Accessibility, surroundings and - as applicable - the view: 4.8/5 ● How did I like the room or - as applicable - outdoor area’s style, decor and atmosphere?: 4.2/5 ● Well-being (space, privacy, temperature, ventilation/odors, lighting, soundscape, sanitary facilities, etc.): 4.5/5 ●● Price – 3.6/5 – satisfactory: ● Price-performance ratio for food: 3.7/5 ● Price-performance ratio for wines and other beverages: 4.0/5 ● Price transparency and correspondence of the expected to the actual price (simple, complete and unambiguous price information on the restaurant's website and in the menu, etc.): 3.2/5

Wonderful gastronomical journey through Slovenia. Very nice service. The dishes are presented with some interactive add ons. For example, you need to fish for scampi or go on a little truffle hunt. This adds a lot of fun to the whole evening. Especially the main dishes of the COB experience 2.0 menu are a highlight.

It was an amazing experience! Sure it was a bit pricy and definitely not the kind of restaurant that you could go to every night (unfortunately :( )- I would be lucky if I could, but I have never ever experienced anything like this! The "presentation" of the food was stunning and the whole experience was simply amazing. I kept smiling the whole evening because it really was so much fun to be at COB. Hopefully it will be on TripAdvisor as "highly recommended activity in Portoroz" soon ;) Oh and my husband and me both had the vegetarian menu "COB experience" with the wine.

COB alias Cooking Outside the Box is an real slovenian treasure with an amazing view above the cost of Portorož. The restaurant itself has an very modern, clean look, but not sterile, the wooden furniture gives it a cozy feeling. The ambiete is something I need to point out, because even it´s an michelin restaurant, it doesnt have this posh or serious atmosphere, which could make somebody feel uncomfortable or out of place. It´s very friendly, relaxed and the stuff is very professionell, but sill humanly and funny. They explained everything very well, but it wasnt a lecture and they gave me nice hints, what to do in Portorož etc. I really appreciated, when the owner and chef himself came to our table after the dinner for a quick small talk. So...but what about the food, right? 😹 Some courses, like the the first and last dish were outstandig, I never had something so creative and playful. We really enjoyed the pork, the fish and the rabbit paté. The other courses were totally fine and good, but they didnt hit the spot like the others. My least favorit course was the dessert I guess, but when I gave that as a feedback, they told me, that the other menu they have is really strong on desserts, so maybe it´s worth a try. In general, I think that it was an amazing expirience and it´s an must-try for the region and you definitely get more back, than you invest, because it´s not just the delicious food, great drinks for a reasonable price, the view, the high standard, but mainly it is the atmosphere created by the owner and his team and the thoughtful details I will not reveal, so you can be surprised!

Searching for a culinary experience, we came across COB and what can I say ... it was unforgettable. The stories about each dish are very entertaining and the combinations of ingredients very well thought out. They cook with few ingredients, but to a very high standard. The wine pairing goes exceptionally well with the dishes and leaves even wine connoisseurs satisfied.

Restaurant
Gostilna Beli Križ is a discreetly situated establishment on a hill above Piran, offering an impressive array of locally sourced delicacies. The restaurant surprises with its authentic cuisine, showcasing the best dishes from the region such as local mussels, fish, steaks, and Slovenian truffles. The well-curated menu presents a challenging choice for diners while the selection of local wines makes it easy to pair one's meal.
Local, very tasty, nice and friendly staff, parking. Do not think twice and come to eat here, you will be happy :) Thank you very much for quality cooking and welcoming atmosphere! We will come again :)

Cannot praise this place enough. We arrived 20 mins before the kitchen was due to close & received nothing but a very warm welcome & excellent service. The food was out of this world. A family of 4, we were all very happy with our meals. I am normally quite underwhelmed when I eat out but not here. I opted for the tuna steak & didn't want it to end. Cooked to perfection, beautifully presented & very tasty - as were all our meals. Wonderful staff & a great atmosphere. And to add to all of that it was excellent value for money.

The food is okay. Nothing special but also not bad. The price is relatively high considering the location and that good restaurants at the water are comparably priced. What stood out negatively was the service. They told us that no seats outside are available, after people outside left and tables were clearly available, they still did not let us sit outside and were generally more on the unfriendly side. I would neither return nor recommend..

Guys, if you gonna pass through this place, or live somewhere near it’s just your debt to visit it!!! You will definitely feel yourself like at home! I really can’t remember such friendly and neighborly atmosphere, combining with such a tasty local food! Each dish we ordered was so delicious and quick cooked. All waiters and chef became our friends after few days, and greeted us each time we came. Thank you dear team of Beli Križ for what you are doing, you a the reason I want to come back to Slovenia ❤️

A must-stop place, you won't regret it!. Always take the beef soup (goverja juha), one of the best I've ever had!

Unobtrusive location on the hill above Piran... but a surprising good and very authentic restaurant with best local dishes from local mussels and fish over steaks up to slovenuan truffels. What a positive surprise! Hard to choose from the well sorted menu, easy to follow the local wines. My Filet Steak with Truffels was so delicious and perfect on point - compliments to the kitchen - and of course to the friendly and busy Gostilničarka. So much more to try there, I fear, we will stay up the Piran hill for the next dinners😂 See you there! Ohhh, now our visit is over - see added pics.
