The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam is a contemporary art and design museum that was established in 1874. It boasts an extensive collection of over 90,000 works spanning from the 19th to the 21st century, featuring movements such as Bauhaus, Pop-Art, De Stijl, Colorfield, Neo-Impressionism and Minimalism.
If you are not really use to modern and contemporary art, take a deep breath, and step inside. Start slowly in the entrance with some sculptures a zebra and kick off your visit with a nice cappuccino from the cafeteria. We loved it in the end. Make it a journey and sit down relax and enjoy the ride.

This is a must-visit stop. It is very well organized, and you can download an app to learn more about some of the pieces. You will probably need half a day or more to visit this museum. One staff member asked me to hang up my phone call while waiting in line before getting into the museum. No sign prohibited cell phone use, and I was not even talking. Training for staff and/or signs about policies can improve the experience.

An interesting museum. Many exhibits in different styles. They also explore various themes, but most often they focus on war, race and self-identity... which creates a sense of a lack of substance and a reluctance to express an opinion that isn't "popular." That's why I'm giving it only four stars.
Dnkminus — Google review
One of my favorite contemporary art museums so far! Vast collection. Needs few good hours to fully enjoy. This time they had Erwin Olaf retrospective. Totally recommended
Maryna B — Google review
My visit to the Stedelijk Museum was truly wonderful! The museum is well-organized and beautiful, featuring an amazing collection of modern and contemporary artworks. I really enjoyed the calm atmosphere and the way the paintings and designs were displayed. I highly recommend visiting it when in Amsterdam!

A cornerstone of Amsterdam’s modern and contemporary art scene, the museum combines a neo-Renaissance building designed by Adriaan Willem Weissman and opened in 1895 with a striking bathtub-shaped modern wing completed in 2012 by the architecture firm Benthem Crouwel. Founded in 1874, the museum is renowned for its early adoption of the white cube exhibition model in the 1920s and its bold, innovative approach to curating. Its rich collection features works by artists such as Mondrian, Chagall, Picasso, Kusama, and Kirchner.
Seokjin H — Google review
Very nice museum with clever audio guide system (expert disscusions included in art descriptions). Unfortunately - problematic way of reserving tickets (I used official channels, never received the tickets - had to buy another at the desk). Museum also not entirely prepared for tourists. Impossible to leave the backpack - you have to go to underground, non-museum car park and rent a locker for whole day to leave your baggage and be able to enter museum).

The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam is a true contemporary art museum — a place where you can see works ranging from early 20th-century masters to artists who are alive and creating today. Both the permanent collection and the temporary exhibitions are absolutely worth seeing. The museum features many works connected to De Stijl, Constructivism, and Suprematism. I still can’t forget the feeling of awe when I saw Chagall’s originals there for the first time — the works of a fellow Belarusian. I literally got goosebumps in that moment. I usually visit this museum about twice a year — sometimes to revisit the permanent collection, and sometimes to explore new exhibitions. They curate excellent shows. I saw the exhibition by Miriam Cahn, an Israeli artist reflecting on the wars in Israel and Ukraine — perfectly in tune with the current need to reinterpret world events through art. I also attended the Marina Abramović performance retrospective — absolutely breathtaking — and the Anselm Kiefer exhibition, which was the most impressive show I’ve seen in 2025. I highly recommend both the permanent collection and the rotating exhibitions held several times a year, you’ll find true gems there.

Museum BroekerVeiling is a captivating local history museum located in the scenic village of Broek op Langedijk, near Alkmaar, Netherlands. It offers visitors an immersive experience into the region's rich agricultural heritage. The museum features exhibits showcasing the fascinating story of the world's oldest sail-through auction, which dates back to the 19th century.
This museum will surprise you. Lots of living history elements, presented by enthousiastic, funny and well versed volunteers. Join in on a real auction, and take a 45 minute tour on a canalboat, exploring the area which yielded the vegs for the auction. Audio guides in multiple languages are available. There's also a nice tea/lunchroom and gift shop. Would recommend.

At this museum you will find out how Netherlands became the most fruitful vegetable country in the world. You will need about 3-4 hours to enjoy all the information provided. Tickets around 20 euro/person. Here is how everything began: The auction was founded on July 29, 1887 at the Bakkersbrug. The auction traded mainly kool that by ship to, among other things Amsterdam was transported. The auction took place in the open air. A jetty and a channel were added, allowing the auction to be more orderly. A horticultural cooperative was founded in 1896 and two years later, in addition to a butcher, a judge appointed. The jetty was covered. In 1907 the auction traded for 700,000 guilders. That year the auction received a train connection via the railway line St. Pancras - Broek op Langedijk this also made transport to Rotterdam, among others, possible. In 1911 the annual turnover was almost 3 million guilders. In 1912, the old auction building was replaced according to a design by W. Dirkmaat Jz. and Joh. Big. The auction building was built above the water on wooden poles, allowing gardeners to sail through the mining hall (auction room) with their barges loaded with vegetables. It was therefore also called a passage auction. The previously purchased mechanical equipment was installed in the mining hall auction clock from 1903 placed above the passage. This clock can be stopped via buttons at the 100 seats for buyers. Auctions were by boatload. The order of the boats was determined by drawing lots. On July 29, 1912, the auction room was festively opened by the Queen's Commissioner of North Holland. In 1922 the building was expanded with a light hall above the water for boats. It acts as a covered port so that the products were no longer exposed to bright sun, rain and other weather influences while waiting. In 1925, an entrance and a second light hall were built, creating a total of 200 berths. Due to land consolidation in the 1960s, the importance of water transport decreased. The auction merged in 1968 with the auction of Warmenhuizen and Noord-Scharwoude to form “auction Langedijk and Omstreek” and chose the auction building in Noord-Scharwoude as its head office. The passage auction was closed in 1973. The auction activities later merged with the West Friesland-Oost auction, today The Greenery. The auction complex had hardly changed in those years. After closure, it was purchased by the municipality in 1973 with the aim of turning it into a monument. In 1975 it was announced that the central government was making money available for the restoration of the auction building. It has been on the national monument list since 1976.[5] The restored auction building was officially opened by Princess Beatrix in 1979. Worth visiting!!!

This delightful open-air museum is a must for those who seek a day out in the open. You have to experience the fresh produce auction where you can wager the best price for your vegetables. We enjoyed a boat ride out in the neighbouring waters in glorious spring weather. The beautiful preserved boats are showstoppers in their own right. This is a perfect day out for a family.

I always admired Dutch museums but this one won all the points. For a short time you can learn so much. Both adults and children enjoy it. Thank you to all volunteers working there.

A very interesting museum, very suitable for kids from 8-12 or even older. There is a ferry tour to join, and also a real auction. Very educational place for kids and adults. There are several different languages for the audio guide, too.

Every moment was great. Museum lovely. Trip on the canal with a jovial, happy skipper. A worthwhile visit from start to finish. The auction was well run. We bought 4 items !!!!

Dim sum restaurant
Restaurant
One Dim Sum, a high-class dim sum restaurant with a modern look, is great for vegetarians and travelers alike. It contains a variety of traditional dim sum dishes as well as some unique creations. The restaurant is located on the top floor of an old building overlooking the water, and has a popular tourist crowd as well as locals from Beijing.
Casual spot with absolutely delicious dim sum. The staff is always very friendly, making the experience even better. I have been here several times and will definitely be coming back again

Came here for lunch. Everything is delicious - especially loved the Xiao Long Bao, Siu Mai, and the steamed rice crepe with shrimp. Pretty calm during lunch hours. Can recommend anyone to try this pleace out.
Noah W — Google review
Very good dim sum. The highlight was the har gao which is my test for a dim sum restaurant. Shrimp pieces were large so that the filling retains the texture of shrimp. I don’t trust restaurants that use finely minced filling that suggest scraps have been used. The chicken siu mai was good too. Not rubbery and overcooked as siu mai sometimes can be. Stuffed aubergine was deep fried rather than the pan fried cantonese version I am used to. I am always happy to see dim wrapped in tofu skins on a menu, as these are unusual. However the steamed parcels with carrot, chicken and shitake were disappointingly bland. I am more accustomed to the fried tofu skins rolls. I was sorry to see too late that my favourite xiao long bao (broth filled Shanghai dumplings) were offered. They were hidden in the steamed bun section instead of the steamed dumpling section of the menu. Atmosphere is modern and airy. On a Friday at lunchtime most of the clientele were Asian ladies who lunch. There was light jazz playing, accompanied by the sound of giggling, well dressed ladies.

It was my first time here and I was very surprised by the quality of the food the taste of the food and the way it’s being served and prepared. Basically, you choose from small to big dishes and you can estimate the portions yourself. What really requires appreciation is the authentic taste of every dish something that is really rare to find so highly recommend visiting and trying soups! 😜
Anton K — Google review
Friendly staff, the food was served fresh and quickly. However be mindful it’s a restaurant with an open kitchen, so your clothes/ hair might end up smelling like food after dining.

Adorable staff, truly lovely. The food is great as well, great amount of choice and foods that are hard to find elsewhere.

One of the best dimsum restaurant in Amsterdam! Small but cozy (you can also make a reservation to make sure you find a table) everything super fresh and so tasty, good portions, good prices, the staffs super friendly all the time! 100% recommend and looking forward to come back soon.
Mankoc C — Google review
Lovely dim sum place! I went by myself and had a cosy seat near the bar. A condensed menu they got for dim sum, you could find most of the popular dim sum tho. Average Ams price most of the dishes are ~ 7 euros. Some of the dim sum are really delicious and since I’m a Chinese so you can take my word. The restaurant is not very big so I think it’d be better to book in advanced. Located in a more residential area so more local vibes here which I like a lot. Will come back.

Senses Restaurant in Amsterdam offers innovative fixed-price menus paired with premium wines, creating a sophisticated dining experience. The restaurant is known for its unique approach to gastronomy and its homage to the Baskenland culture. Chef Naki Lopez de Vinaspre leads the kitchen, showcasing creativity and culinary expertise. With its dedication to honoring tradition while embracing innovation, Senses Restaurant stands out as a hidden gem among the diverse dining options in Amsterdam.
We had the 6-course menu with one of us eating gluten-free diet. Food was delicious and gluten-free taken into account where possible (some bread missing, but all dishes served gluten-free). The service and atmosphere were excellent. Highly recommend!

What a hidden gem in the center of Amsterdam! We had the full Senses experience (vegan version), and everything was absolutely delicious. The chef Renaud blends French cuisine with Asian influences and the result is exquisite. We tried the spring menu and really enjoyed it. A great spot if you’re looking to treat yourself.
A. K — Google review
My wife and I had the honour and pleasure of dining at Senses in Amsterdam, Holland. A small 22 couverts restaurant, on the ground floor of the Albus Hotel. The kitchen is masterfully and creatively run, by Chef Renaud Goigoux. The restaurant offers from two to seven courses, bringing to life the Chef’s choice tasting menu. The restaurant serves only fish, shellfish and vegetarian creations. No meat appears on the menu at all. The genre is definitely French haute cuisine with hints and dashes of Japan and Thailand, without becoming an all too overplayed fusion concept. Particular attention is given to the charcoals that bring the delightful smokiness to a couple of the dishes. The subtle and delicate introduction of Yuzu, Lemon Grass, Caifir Lime to one of Renaud’s signature dishes brought me vivid memories of my journeys through the Orient. Chef Renaud is accompanied by Sarah one of two of his sous chefs. I’m afraid I had already drunk a little wine, when we were offered a tour of the minuscule kitchen. I feel embarrassed to admit, I can’t remember his name. The front of house was shared by Anastasia, Jose Maria, Rosa and Noumou. It was a beautifully orchestrated ballet of wine and food, all elegantly and perfectly served, We went for the “All In” choice bringing the 7 courses with paired wines. The wines that had been chosen, for this event, were not from the great vineyards of France and other European collaborators, however there was purpose, deep wine knowledge and delicacy in the choices. All wines harmonized perfectly with each dish. Be prepared for a two and a half hour wonderful experience. Both chef and his sous-chefs come to the table to serve the specific creams, foams and bouillons. The price of this wonderful meal, came out to EUR400 for the two of us. The whole dining experience from: the ambience; the friendly and warm staff engagement; the kitchen tour offered by the chef; lastly, and most importantly, the delicious, innovative and sensorial experience of each individual dish, makes me wonder why this restaurant has not yet received its first Michelin star. I would like to suggest that the Gods of Michelin should really drop by one of these days. We read about the restaurant in the Michelin Guide, so decided to try it out. We were unsure because the guide says little about this fabulous restaurant. I highly recommend Senses to all those that travel through the Nederlands. Its worth a detour to eat there. Make sure to reserve a day or two in advance owing to the small amount of tables. Congratulation to you chef Renaud Goigoux, your cuisine is delightful and your team fabulously prepared.

This is a great spot for celebrating either with friends or your partner while enjoying a very well curated plant-based dinner. It's in the middle of the center but the place is not hectic and provides a nice oasis away from the city buzz. The food was very well thought, the flavours were well executed and everything was delicious. The chef is very modern, but the plates are filling and you are not left with a sense of hunger.
Florencia E — Google review
Had a beautiful vegan lunch here. Very suprising in flavors, textures and combinations, and really well thought-out nutritionally, in terms of protein, fats, etc, which is not always the case if you eat plant-based at a non-plantbased restaurant. Would recommend if you have something to celebrate!
Evelien S — Google review
Came here with some friends. I enjoyed the food and good service. The only thing I was not a fan of was the pacing of the multiple course meal. Three hours is a bit long for a dinner.
Kevin T — Google review
A truly memorable dining experience! The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and full of good energy, which instantly made us feel welcome. The cozy, intimate setting adds to the charm, and being able to watch the chefs craft each dish brings a special, interactive touch. We enjoyed the 10-course vegan tasting menu — every plate was fresh, creative, and full of flavour, with interesting combinations that kept surprising us. The wine pairing was excellent, complementing each course beautifully. Romantic, flavourful, and unforgettable — highly recommended!
Kate M — Google review
The service and the ambiance are great; the waitresses are excellent, they make you leave with a huge smile on your face; the food was paced very well. I have ordered the 2 course meal; the variety of food was great and it was more than enough for dinner. I appreciate that this restaurant offers that choice. The one thing I would say not great was not all the dishes were that flavorful; the main course was a bit typical but on the other hand the appetizers and the first course were very refreshing and unique.
