Wakehurst, previously known as Wakehurst Palace, is a stunning National Trust-owned estate featuring a wild botanic garden and the renowned Millennium Seed Bank. Spanning over 500 acres, this West Sussex gem showcases diverse landscapes from around the world, such as Coates Wood with trees from Australasia and South America. As the sister site to Kew's Royal Botanic Gardens, Wakehurst offers free entry for National Trust members and boasts attractions like mazes and hammocks for kids.
The glorious ‘wild’ botanic counterpart to Kew Gardens in London, boasting in excess of 500 acres of diverse landscapes. Well worth a visit to see the impressive collection of plant life specimens and mature arboreal wonders, from mighty redwoods to English oaks and prehistoric wollemi pines. The Great Storm of 1987 decimated Loder's plantings, toppling 20,000 trees. Since then, Kew has redesigned the gardens to create a walk through the temperate woodlands of the world. The café is top notch serving a decent range of refreshments and the Wellcome Trust Millennium Seed Bank needs no introduction - a vital piece of infrastructure safeguarding nature for posterity. Do bear in mind the emphasis of this site is wild vegetation so an overtly curated garden feel (like Kew Gardens) isn't the mainstay. If you have a dog you'll only be able to walk them on the designated route, on a short lead, which nonetheless provides ample views and greenery to enjoy. There's also a field enclosure (near the seed bank) for letting dogs roam freely off their leads. The gift shop is okay, but you'll find the typical spenny National Trust knick knacks and paraphernalia lining the shelves. A higher quality selection would be preferable, rather than the rebranded generic products likely just imported from China in some considerable bulk and found at every Trust site from there to kingdom come. Public health note: I have reason to suspect they bake their potatoes in aluminium foil. This is a public health risk as aluminium is a known neurotoxin and can accumulate in the body.

Wakehurst botanical garden is a great place to take your dog(s) for a walk. There are several routes you can choose from, we usually take the long round trip. There are some no dog zones but there is plenty to explore where you can take your dog. There is a big field which is an off lead area for doggies, full of smells to sniff. If you come without dogs, I recommend visiting the mansion, the water gardens and the wetland walk around the lake. We have been here in different seasons but there is always something to see or a different route to explore. Highly recommended. Great facilities as well, plenty of parking, toilets in different places and two cafes to choose from.

A stunning wild botanical garden. Really awe inspiring and thoughtfully planted. Fun for children and adults, my daughter enjoyed the mud kitchen and having fun amongst the trees. Cafe was quite expensive so will bear that in mind for our next visit. Plenty of spaces to have a picnic.
Becci C — Google review
My daughter & I hadn't been to Wakehurst for quite a long time. I had forgotten just how beautiful it is here. We walked farther than usual and got to enjoy some of the most beautiful parts. Although be warned, when the map says it's a steep hill, it's truly steep 🤣 We certainly got out workout in!! The staff are lovely too, very helpful. It was reasonably busy for a Sunday but not overcrowded at all. We'll definitely return soon no doubt.
Clair H — Google review
Great botanical garden with a variety of views. I would highly recommend visiting the Himalayan glade and pond. Do be aware that the blooms vary quite a lot between seasons, so you may not get to see the same as my images. Good restaurant with reasonable options and prices on site. Ice cream van with good selection too.

Wakehurst Mansion (also known as Wakehurst Place) is a beautiful historic estate. The mansion was built in 1590 by Sir Edward Culpeper. It showcases classic Elizabethan architecture, including a grand stone facade and mullioned windows. Wakehurst is managed by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. It’s sometimes called “Kew’s wild botanic garden” and is a hub for plant science and conservation. One of the most significant features is the Millennium Seed Bank, the world’s largest wild plant seed conservation project. It aims to bank seeds from 25% of the world’s flora. The estate has over 500 acres of diverse landscapes, including temperate woodlands, formal gardens, and ornamental lakes. During World War II, Wakehurst was used as a refuge and later served as a base for Canadian troops. Although Kew manages it, Wakehurst is owned by the National Trust, blending historic preservation with scientific innovation. Its scenic beauty and historic architecture have made it a filming location for various productions. We enjoyed our visit. Staff were all friendly and nice. We were told that refurbishment is ongoing, and the mansion will be accessible around August time. My only gripe is the parking fee. £8 for just under 3 hours isn't great value for National Trust members.
Shame N — Google review
This sister to Kew Gardens is a fine place to spend a few hours wandering around the wooded estate and the attractive small mansion house. Notwithstanding the importance of the scientific and conservation carried out by the Millenium Seedbank, for many visitors the main attractions are the walking trails through the over 500 acre wooded countryside, featuring some of the world's most magnificent trees. These include a substantial number of the world's most massive tree, the giant Californian Redwood, which, despite their relative youth, have already ready reached an impressive 36 meters, and, not to be missed, are the weirdly drooping freaks of the same species. Children up to 16yoa have free entry, adults are £18.50 and young people are 50% of the adult rate. Car parking additional. Hot and cold food at the Stables Kitchen Restaurant and cafes. It is not cheap, but it is a great day out for the whole family.
David P — Google review
The seed bank was very informative and high quality. Loved the walks along the trees, don't forget to do the Rocky walk. There are quite a few magnificent sequoiadendron towering above all the other trees. The smaller botanical gardens are really nice . But: the food is just not great. We had our quiche cold. The sweet and sour pork had perhaps 2 or 3 pieces of tasteless chewy pork in it, with some mushy broccoli on the side. Totally overpriced.

Borde Hill Garden is a stunning 200-acre garden located in Sussex, offering a mix of formal gardens, parkland, and woodland. The garden features an array of plants from the Himalayas, China, and the Andes dating back to the 1900s. Visitors can explore various themed gardens including rhododendrons, woodland garden, roses, water garden, and enjoy vibrant autumn colors. The location is dog-friendly with ample walking paths and open meadows to explore.
What a lovely garden to visit! Easy to walk around and so many beautiful plants and trees to enjoy. Lots of opportunities to sit and just take in the view. So good to sit in the Italian garden to have a natter. Two little cafes with takeaway option to enjoy in the grounds and clean toilets. Thoroughly recommended...

Went today for the jazz on the lawn which was lovely. No extra fee, normal ticket price. Small beautiful gardens, we got round it in an hour tbh but enjoyed a picnic and the music. Kids park is good. X2 ice creams £5. Free parking. A lovely sunny Sunday afternoon.

Borde Hill Garden is a beautiful and peaceful place to wander — not huge, but thoughtfully designed with a lovely variety of themed areas, flower beds, and open lawns. Each section feels different, and there’s plenty of charm to take in if you enjoy a relaxed stroll surrounded by nature. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great during my visit, which made it harder to appreciate the views fully, but it’s easy to imagine how stunning it must be on a sunny day. The grounds are well kept, and there’s a café and plant shop nearby to round off the visit.
Rania M — Google review
Spent an enjoyable two hours. Had a cider in the garden cafe, wandered through the diverse gardens and woodland, and found a couple of interesting books at the secondhand cabin. Cycled here and there are plenty of stands at the end of the car park close to the entrance. Note that the only route is along Borde Hill Lane, which might be a challenge for less confident cyclists.

Beautiful garden to explore. Easier than you think to get there by foot. Cafe had delicious scones and the shop was excellent with good value plants.

Lovely visit today!!! Weather was just right. We had lovely coffee to take away and enjoyed a walk and used the map we were given. Helpful staff and gardens so beautiful and suggest a visit to anyone who hasn't yet visited. Child friendly so good for families.

Lunch was delicious. Staff really friendly. Save room for cake! We had crustless quiche with salad, that was dressed sublimely. Plus a mix of the potato salad and the spelt salad. The charred vegetables were delicious. Tea, coffee and plum and custard cake to follow. Ate it too quickly for a photo.

Has everything you'd expect of borde hill, but seemed a bit lacking to be honest, wakehurst and Sheffield park gardens were better. Staff are friendly and welcoming Grounds are beautiful and well kept. Plenty of parking and toilets.

A fair assortment of shops and very near the car parks. There is a small but well stocked M&S, and when I was there, there was a market running with verg fresh looking fruit and veg. Also, a delightful tea shop called the Bay Tree which is definitely worth a visit

We are so grateful to the team at High Weald Dairy for providing absolutely outstanding cheeses for our wedding. Cafe
Peckish Cafe is a typical greasy spoon cafe located right opposite Haywards Heath Station. It offers the usual fare for a cafe at reasonable prices, with pleasant and quick service. The menu is varied, catering to most requirements, and the staff are friendly and provide fast service. The place is recommended for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with freshly cooked food in good surroundings.
Peckish Cafe is my go-to breakfast or lunch venue in Haywards Heath. Really close to the station and opposite Waitrose. I recommend the Full English, I often have an omelette and salad. Service and food are excellent. Friendly and welcoming. Down to earth vibe which I like.

This is my favourite place when off to work. They have amazing wraps and lovely coffees. My favourite is oat milk cappuccino. Chef is brilliant and super friendly to everyone. Other staff members are courteous as well. It’s always buzzing with people even in the odd hours of the day. I would definitely recommend this cafe👆.

A very clean and nice restaurant. The location is central and great. We started the day with a delicious breakfast and Mr. Hakan's nice and warm conversation and wonderful hospitality. Thank you very much. It has become our favorite place in Haywards Heath.
Arzu T — Google review
Had the breakfast special with a flat white. Coffee huge and milky (so not a flat white). Everything adequate but nothing very good. Why can’t a British cafe aspire to something marginally better? Like decent bread instead of minimal standard industrial and good coffee? And god forbid real butter? Bacon and sausage were fine, beans out of some gigantic bread Sub-Heinz can. Depressing sub-par food.

If you're looking for a comforting breakfast experience, this place really stands out. The food is absolutely fantastic, and the staff goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and cared for

Francisco Lounge is a delightful spot that caters to a variety of tastes and preferences, making it an ideal destination for families, couples, or groups. During my first visit, I enjoyed breakfast options that were both plentiful and delicious. The ordering process was convenient through a phone app at the table, although special dietary needs must be addressed directly at the bar.
My first visit here. Food is to me somewhat subjective, what appeals to me may not be to you so this is a very general review. We just had breakfasts both the large and ordinary plus an 'allergy free' one for our celiac family member. Our breakfasts were ordered and paid for using the phone app at the table however the allergy free one has to be ordered at the bar and paid for there so be aware. The quality of the food and quantity were good in all cases. My large breakfast was 2 eggs, 3 back bacon, grilled Tomato, black pudding, 3 hash browns, mushrooms, beans (I declined these as they are the food of the devil), two sausages and 2 toast. Tea etc was taken at a separate cost. My only slight annoyance was the sausage it was a very fine cut and I prefer a more coarse cut traditional style . Otherwise all was good the hash browns were crispy and the food was warm. Service was wonderful, polite, friendly and helpful and a real credit to the place! Perfect for a working breakfast meet up, early meet after the school run or just a morning social. I will return but try a later visit and sample the beer !
Ray B — Google review
Beautiful decor, very clean and tidy, lovely atmosphere and very attentive staff. Food was delivered quickly and was very good value for money. Will definitely be returning
Iain M — Google review
Super lovely staff, food was great & they were more than helpful with a special request to help with our pregnancy gender reveal. Lovely atmosphere & great service too. Thank you!
Bethany J — Google review
I am very disappointed in having to write this review about Francisco Lounge. This is my second time eating here. Upon ordering a Burger and Fries (Lounge Burger) to takeaway, I started eating the burger and noticed a black insect on the lettuce. When I took the lettuce out and looked closer, I found even more tiny flies dotted around the lettuce. This obviously raises a serious concern for the food preparation undertaken by the chefs and the measures taken by the restaurant to ensure customers receive food that isn’t contaminated. I requested a full refund from the staff which they had provided. That will be my last time coming to Francisco Lounge.
C H — Google review
If you’re used to a food in London, don’t go here. Food is on par with what is expected at Wetherspoons (without being cheap). Lots of children and no atmosphere. Personally wouldn’t bother to spend money here…. The food would be offsenive to native cuisines (see patas bravas for reference)
Emma B — Google review
After being shown our table we then cleaned it for the staff as it was not looking very healthy…. The table was still sticky which made for a unpleasant feeling anything that came into contact stuck to the table we then asked another server to run a clean cloth over the table but instead of a sorry about that I’ll sort it out attitude we were met with just attitude … the guy who bought over the food was very pleasant and the food was enjoyable… never forget times are hard and in the service industry it’s so easy to get it right and it’s the little things that pertain People remember … if it was up to me I’d walked out but I was with family members and we had two young kids with us.
Jeff M — Google review
I can't fault the Lounges across the UK. How they make them the same but different is genius. Again how they recruit such great teams is a credit. Food always reliable, atmosphere is all about real people enjoying themselves, Francisco Lounge today was superb.
Gary P — Google review
Thought I'd give this place a go as its local and looked interesting. I liked the decor and the atmosphere of the place. I used the app to order a burger meal and a small soft drink. The chips were cooked and seasoned to perfection, I just wish there were more of them! The burger patty was tasty, and I liked the fact that the vegetables and brioche bun tasted fresh. My only minor complaint would be the squeezy ketchup bottle was messy and not closed properly and one of the waiters appeared to be a little messy looking & too loud (no need to shout across the room). I'm looking forward to coming back to try out the other dishes. Glad to have another great place to eat out in Haywards Heath. 17/06/23 - Tried the Full English and it was divine! Best FE breakfast I've had in a while.

Pub
Restaurant
Nestled in a charming village, The Green Man pub is a delightful stop for anyone exploring the area. After an early morning drive to Sussex for Paws in the Park, we stumbled upon this traditional gem. The moment we stepped inside, we were enveloped by its warm atmosphere and friendly staff who made us feel right at home. Despite not having a reservation, they graciously found us a table. Our first visit was memorable; the staff exuded warmth and genuine interest in our experience.
We spotted The Green Man pub on the way to our airbnb as we were in the area for Paws in the Park. We left for Sussex at 3am and we’d had a really long day, the takeaway options weren’t for us so we came to this pub. From the moment we walked in the atmosphere was just perfect. A proper traditional pub with such a warm feeling and the staff were so happy, friendly and polite, as well as really helpful. We hadn’t booked so we walked in on the off chance that they may have a table available and they managed to seat us. Nothing was too much trouble and they went above and beyond for us. The only sauce that my mum likes with steak is Diane sauce and they managed to provide this for her. The staff are attentive and genuinely nice people. If I’m in the area again I’ll definitely be coming to this pub again. Thank you all again for a lovely evening.

Friendly, cosy village pub with a warm welcome, a lovely open fire and a large garden for the summer time. Great for walking groups and cycling tours or for a meal after a trip on the nearby Bluebell Railway. A good selection of beers and fabulous food with a great menu and regularly changing specials.

A genuine pub. The chicken burger was excellent - for a burger. The fish was massive, which impressed initially. Unfortunately it wasn't that tasty and seemed a bit watery. I personally would prefer a smaller portion of a better quality fish. I have given it the same overall score as over the road... but I would come here again, but not so much over the road.
Greg H — Google review
This was a stop over location on our cycle ride from London to Brighton. Its a slight detour from the route, but we'll worth it. We sat outside with the good weather, service was busy and they have a small bar area. We ordered 2 baguettes and a pie, all came out relatively quite. The fries served with the baguettes were delicious and the baguettes itself was very delicious and filling. The pie was absolutely fabulous, good pastry and a lovely filling, a proper pie cut and not a single individual one. Overall it's a good stop point to make if you are cycling, specially since it's not far from Ditching Beacon.
Justin C — Google review
Mixed feelings, as I report. I assume that someone on the staff didn't like the look of me; or my tone at some point. Who-knows? The first time I went in (6 weeks ago. mid July) the staff who served me were really friendly, chatting warmly and generally interested in sharing a moment. I ordered dinner. It was fine. After around 40 trips to the bar in the last 30 days, they know exactly what I'll order: Same local Ale. 1 pint. Just me and my dog. I haven't seen those chaps much since - on my daily, dog-walking pint in the village - but when I did, they were always warm. The rest of the staff not so much; distant and downright unfriendly generally: Most of the time they don't even acknowledge having ever seen me before - and always seem to determine that everyone else needs serving before I do: I chuckle to myself about that. Only once was the ale poor, which was efficiently changed to an alternate. I arrived one time to find the pub shut (earlier than normal for a Sunday) yet as I contemplated continuing my walk the main misery fetched me a pint outside (no smile; 'pay next time' - I did): Kindness itself seemed to have broken out. I was so pleased and warmed at the generosity and empathy - staggered, really. It seemed a corner had been turned. Then it was back to looking straight through me for the next 3 weeks. Goodness only knows what I did that was so offensive... I have stopped going there now.
Gary R — Google review
I ate here with my family for an impromptu, late lunch. My teenagers chose adult burgers, which the loved and looked delicious. The server quickly dealt with the error in one of our meals. Service throughout was excellent, friendly yet professional. Spot on! I’d definitely recommend this pub for food quality, choice and service.
Emma H — Google review
We came to The Green Man for a Sunday roast with our 4-year-old and were really disappointed. The table was dirty when we arrived, and there were several dead flies around, not exactly the setting you hope for when dining out, especially with a child. Staff didn’t seem particularly friendly or welcoming, which made the experience feel even less inviting. The food was just ok. Edible, but nowhere near the quality you’d expect for the price. Definitely not somewhere we’ll be returning.

Indian restaurant
Curry Inn is a charming Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant nestled in Haywards Heath, offering a delightful dining experience. The ambiance is relaxed and intimate, featuring modern decor with striking red accents and comfortable white-upholstered chairs that create an inviting atmosphere. This spacious eatery serves a variety of authentic Indian dishes, some infused with contemporary twists, making it a perfect spot for both traditional flavors and innovative cuisine lovers.
I have been coming here since I was very young and the food and service has never disappointed. I cannot recommend this place enough. The food is delicious and very good value and the service as always extremely nice and friendly. I have visited lots other curry houses and I would easily say this is the best one in Haywards Heath.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Curry inn and I was thoroughly impressed by both the quality of the cuisine and the level of service. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and rich in authentic Indian flavors.

Have had curry’s previously from here and have been reasonably good but today’s was just awful no flavour sauce was like coloured water chutneys no taste popperdoms soggy and nan bread was awful for the onion bargees well where were they size of a pea For £30.00 in total I expected better and ended up throwing it all in the bin so very disappointed

A very odd taste. Like a Chinese curry sort of flavour. Not what I expected. As a Indian food critic I can say that the dhansak I had wasn’t traditional with no sweet and sour taste and very few lentils. Mutter paneer means paneer with peas - mine had no peas at all and was in a very very sweet korma like masala with other mixed veg. Not very nice at all. Naan was good. Sorry guys - poor. I would not recommend.

We booked a table last minute and quite late in the evening! The staff was happy to help, friendly and they have all delivered a great customer service. Kudos to the chef for cooking such delicious dishes. Onion baaji were done to perfection, crispy and light. Curry was beautiful and it will take you on a journey of flavours. I must admit we were a bit greedy with ordering the food, but the staff was happy to pack what was left as a take away and now we enjoyed their food on our lazy Sunday !!!! Thank you very much for everything and for delivering such a great food and customer service that late in the evening! Definitely coming back soon xx.

Garden
Nature & Parks
Nymans, a National Trust property, offers a diverse range of attractions for visitors. The Walled Garden is renowned for its stunning displays of blossoms, camellias, and spring bulbs against the backdrop of aged walls - a favorite spot for Instagrammers. The magnolia trees add to the picturesque setting with their waxy blooms in early spring. Additionally, the site's ruins and gardens provide a beautiful location for ceremonies.
We had an amazing day at the National Trust’s Nymans today! The gardens were stunning and the buildings were beautiful. The kids had a great time at the playground too. It’s definitely one of the best sites we’ve visited, highly recommended! The food was good as well.

The gardens are always lovely and such a pleasure to walk in at any time of year. The house was interesting with rooms open to see and lots of exhibits with information about the last owners and guests who had visited. The volunteer staff were knowledgeable and welcoming. A lovely day out.

Beautiful National Trust house and gardens. The trails are all pushchair/wheelchair friendly and there is so much to do and see. The wildflower garden is amazing and the café and facilities are all very good. I recommend going early as the car park filled up quickly.

Beautiful walk we took the orange route which took 2 hours with the 7 year old in toe but was an easy stroll . All dog owners were respectable and put their dogs on leads before crossing our path. My cane corso is very anxious and still in training it was a very stress free walk . Parking was free and plenty to see . I let my boy take the photos . So this what was seen by a 7 year old

Easy parking, great buggy tour with history talk for those in our party less able to walk. Beautiful gardens, romantic, wild feel to it all. Went for a walk in the woods down to a lake, just remember to take the code from reception so you can get through the gate and back into Nymans

A recent first for us to visit Nymans, and we've been twice in as many weeks..! Fantastic grounds, gardens, and the house too is a spectacular place, in it's semi-ruined state... Autumn also added to the feast of colour for the eyes as well... Will return again, that's for sure... 👍👍👍
Steve D — Google review
A fantastic place to visit with kids. Nymans has so much open space for children to run around and explore—it’s perfect for a family day out. We brought a picnic and found plenty of peaceful spots with beautiful views to sit and relax. The gardens are full of interesting plants and flowers, and there’s always something new to spot and talk about. There were also children’s activities on during our visit, which kept the kids entertained for hours. They were completely absorbed and had such a great time. It’s one of those places where you can easily spend the whole day. Highly recommend for families!

Nestled on the outskirts of Haywards Heath, Beech Hurst Gardens is a true gem that enhances the town's recreational offerings. Established in 1950 through the generosity of Mr. W. J. Yapp’s estate, these gardens are now lovingly maintained by Mid Sussex District Council. Visitors can enjoy a variety of attractions including a charming miniature railway that has delighted families since 1954, extending nearly half a mile after its expansion in 1974.
Great open parkland with tennis courts, bowling green, petanque courts, miniature railway, kiosk coffee shop and access ta a Harvester Restaurant. Areas left to grow natural wild flowers. All in all something for everyone

Beech Hurst Park Miniature Railway, located in Beech Hurst Gardens, Haywards Heath RH16 4BB, offers a delightful experience for families. The railway is operated by dedicated volunteers and features nearly half a mile of track, complete with two tunnels and automatic color signals. Open on weekends and bank holidays from Easter to the end of September, as well as Wednesdays during summer school holidays, this outdoor attraction showcases various locomotives alongside visiting trains throughout the year.
If you want a nice surprise for your little ones, this is it. The train runs o ly on weekends, good weather provided. After the ride, there is a lot more to do. Walking through the garden, spending time at the playground or having a bite and a drink at the Harvester restaurant.

"The Dolphin" is a popular leisure center with various amenities for visitors. The facility features an elevated miniature railway that takes guests on a ride around the nearly half-mile track. Additionally, there are clean and well-maintained swimming pools, a gym, and sports hall offering bounce and roll sessions for kids. The staff is known for being friendly and helpful, creating a welcoming atmosphere for families. However, parking can be challenging during peak times due to limited space.
We took our 3 & 5 year old to swimming lessons for the first time and they were both in separate classes and both very nervous. The lifeguard Poppy was incredibly kind & so patient with them both, making them both feel more at ease and comfortable. She is an absolute asset to the dolphin & is an incredible woman. If you have nervous children when it comes to swimming lessons, I highly recommend the dolphin. Thank you to Poppy for your kindness and patience!

Amazing, massive leisure centre. Went for an annual tae kwon do competition with my boys. With international taekwondo Federation. Friendly staff, good the changing room and clean facilities.
Arti H — Google review
*Update 2024* They have improved the gym and have made an effort on improving maintenance generally, well-done. Good addition of a water fountain near reception. Thank you. Shame that there are now less running machines and still some maintenance issues remain. But certainly is better. *Previous review* In pretty bad shape. The health suite showers are covered in mould on the walls and there is literal mould growing out of the vent ducts, like mushrooms. Yup, all the visitors breathing that. Stranger Things comes to mind. Ceiling tiles missing for months in that shower room. Rust holes in the shower walls. Had to complain for floor there to be cleaned and remove smell of piss a couple of weeks ago. Jacuzzi is timed and not button operated. Suspicious stains on floor in smaller pool in heath suite area. The showers in the standard mens changing barely work and there is usually a puddle of stagnant water in a dip in the floor. The broken hairdryer in this changing room has not been repaired in as many years as I've been a member. Same as the broken toilet in the health suite changing room. Seems like all the toilets that aren't near reception have not been renovated since the place was opened. This is reflected by non working taps etc. Similar situation in many other areas of the facility, with worn carpets and stained ceilings. The gym plays music with YouTube adverts. Although the gym is more than packed at peak times with teenagers, the staff refuse to open the second zone downstairs which was once an overflow...why? To save on staffing costs. Two stars only because it has all necessary equipment and there is a sauna. £56pm is fairly overpriced considering the poor maintenance and the refusal to open a gym overflow. "Oh but it costs to heat the pool" I never use your pool, please create a separate membership for people who want pool access, if heating it costs so very much.
A L — Google review
Really bad. I would think twice before becoming a member. The monthly fee has increased to £51 a month. This is fine, but not having hot water in the showers for a few weeks (still ongoing) some of the gym equipment is broken, dirty showers and no air conditioning in the classes. No offer of a discount due to the issues.
Rich D — Google review
Went for a swim this Sunday and was appalled by the rudeness and unprofessional behaviour of the Lifeguards. At one point they were standing chatting; clearly more interested in talking to each other than looking after swimmers. I won’t be taking my grandchildren there as I would worry for their safety
Ida S — Google review
Considering cancelling my family membership, staff are all lovely but facilities really showing their age. Place built in the 70s. The health pool hot tub is not hot, it is lukewarm. Management keep it at a low fixed temperature. Sauna is also not hot enough. Too busy as well. Think the entire dolphin centre needs to be rebuilt and expanded given how Haywards Heath has grown since the 70s. Wish they had a cold plunge too... Will reverse review if temps are raised
Daniel S — Google review
I used to like going to this place but I only want a gym membership. They simply dont offer one..Only a very over priced membership that forces you to also pay for use of the pool and so called health spa that is always full of old people who get if cheap and Im sure most only use it every day to wash in. They seem to allow so many collage students into the gym without them even paying that it became impossible to even use the gym. Poorly run, poorly maintained equipment. Snooty staff. I now go to Pure gym for a fraction of the price, I can go any time and to any branch. I can use the equipment I actually want to use rather than paying through the nose for facilities I dont want and can't even use cos all those they allow in for free.
BTN L — Google review
I’ve been a member for over three years and go to the gym and sauna six times a week. The gym is great, but the temperature of the sauna is always too low. It is usually sat around 60-70, and the most I’ve ever seen it is 79 degrees. This is by far sub-optimal for gaining the full benefit of the sauna. New research meta studies on the health benefits of saunas have found the minimum temperature must be atleast 80 to gain the full health benefits—but ideally between 80-100. For obvious reasons temperature drops from people going in and out should be accounted for aswell. The solution is straightforward, set the temperature to 90, and turn it on as the first task of the day.

Family restaurant
The Harvester Beech Hurst in Haywards Heath is a family-friendly restaurant known for its grilled meats, salads, pasta, and seafood. Despite being busy on Easter Monday, the staff provided quick and efficient service with a smile. Visitors praise the professional and informative waitstaff like Chloe and Danni who ensure a pleasant dining experience. While some find the prices slightly high, many appreciate the delicious food offerings such as burgers and sundaes along with the lovely salad cart.
**Review: Harvester Beech Hurst, Haywards Heath** I recently visited Harvester Beech Hurst in Haywards Heath and had an absolutely delightful experience. The restaurant is beautifully situated in a garden setting, making it a lovely spot for a meal with family or friends. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. The food is delicious, with a wide variety of options to choose from. I particularly enjoyed the BBQ pulled pork and the triple-cooked chips. The salad bar is also a great addition, offering fresh and crisp ingredients. But the real star of the show was our waitress, Christina. She was exceptional in every way. Christina was polite, efficient, and had a genuine smile that made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. She took our orders promptly and ensured that our meals were served hot and to our liking. Her attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile made our dining experience truly memorable. I would highly recommend Harvester Beech Hurst to anyone looking for a great meal in a lovely setting, and I would especially encourage you to ask for Christina if you get the chance. She truly made our visit special.

Took my 94 yr old disabled mum for a push around the large park/gardens behind the pub. She enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine. Finished the walk with a half cider for her and a cold pint for me. The patio area is huge gets the sun and gives a grandstand view of the park. Nice afternoon. Service was good and fast. It was a quiet afternoon. Didn't eat so cant make any comment.

Cheryl our waitress for our trip was absolutely lovely. I asked for a water and she got me a huge glass with lemon which I enjoyed and appreciated. My husband could not find the voucher but Cheryl was patient with us and waited whilst he searched. Nothing seemed like too much bother for her either. A real pleasure on my part to see older people in the workplace. Thank you for a good dining experience too.

The food wasn't bad but the service was found wanting. The app isn't in tune with the restaurant and they hesitated in refunding me the extra cost. Edit:- I've been back a few and times since and the experience has been a lot more pleasant. Edit:- I do think this place is good value for money however my main gripe with this branch would be how long it takes to seat you. I can see them having a chit chat amongst themselves before one of them finally decides to seat you. Happens everytime I come and its quite frustrating. Edit: I don't have to wait long to be seated now. This aspect of the service has definitely improved.

Kalina was excellent. She was welcoming and very lovely. I bought my son in for a treat before he starts school tomorrow, and she was brilliant with him. Restaurant
Heritage in Slaugham, West Sussex is a country gastropub with stylish rooms and a garden. The talented chef, Matt Gillan, has an impressive background working with renowned chefs and appearing on TV shows. A visitor celebrated their 60th birthday at the restaurant and was impressed by the incredible staff, outstanding food, and beautiful surroundings.
We visited Heritage and can only say positive things about the restaurant. Matt and his team delivered a faultless service and the food was incredible. I highly recommend supporting this amazing restaurant and experience the tasting menu. Paired with the wine flight resulted in a fantastic meal. We are due to return for the lunch menu which looks very fair value for the quality and passion that goes into each plate.

We never got to use our voucher, gifted in Oct 2023 and lasting a year. We were due to be in the area in Sept 2024 and kept trying to book from early August, but dates never became available on the restaurant's online calendar. When we eventually got through to them, they said they were changing their business model to mainly run events and would now only offer the odd dates here and there for dinner. The few they posted online didn't coincide with our visits to Sussex. There was a discussion about refunds, which I had to pass on to the friends who had bought us the voucher. Never found out whether they got their money back. Checked the Companies House website a few days ago for Matthew Stewart Gillan. You can draw your own conclusions.

We visited today for my husbands birthday as a special treat! We opted for the £40 pp 3 course lunch menu plus 1 flight of wine, added a cheese board to share, had an extra 3 glasses of wine and water which came to £203 (12.5% service charge included). We had an amazing meal which took approximately 3 hours. We took our time and weren't in a rush. Upon arrival, the sign looks filthy and run down. There is parking for maybe 8 cars only and street parking. This place is nestled in a village, and parking must drive the local houses nuts. Anyway we found parking. We booked about a month in advance and paid £20 to hold the table. We had a warm welcome when we stepped inside and our coats were taken. We were offered some water, which slightly annoyed me as we were charged £5 for this on the bill at the end! Anyway.... the service was excellent! Friendly, professional, and non intensive. Our courses came swiftly out. We were very impressed. The owner himself introduced the courses which I loved! On the table was a card wishing my husband a happy birthday along with all the staff wishing him this also. Nice touch. I half expected him to be offered a glass of champagne on the house like most other restaurants?! The food was delicious and beautifully presented! My husband loved the goat and my favourite was the onion ice cream! We had the most amazing meal and this was a real treat. Highly recommended visiting this restaurant!

Very Disappointed – Voucher for Our 30th Birthdays Not Honoured My husband and I were gifted a voucher from our family for Heritage by Matt Gillan to celebrate our 30th birthdays. We were excited to use it, but unfortunately, our experience has been a nightmare. Despite numerous attempts to contact the restaurant via phone, email, and voicemail, they have completely ignored us. It has been months now, and we have yet to receive any response or acknowledgment. At this point, we are forced to assume the voucher is stolen. We’ve been patient, but the lack of communication and refusal to honour the voucher or offer a full refund is completely unacceptable. I would advise anyone thinking of purchasing a gift voucher or dining at Heritage to reconsider. If we are not contacted, we will be taking this further, as we are entitled to the value of what was gifted to us.

The excellent staff are very friendly and attentive throughout. We had the dinner menu veggie and standard. Having eaten at many Michelin starred and Michelin aspiring restaurants the food was of an average standard compared to others of a similar price and aspirations in the market place, I expected more individual taste in each dish, although some had so much vinegar it overwhelmed everything else on the plate, also potions could of been slightly bigger. For the price, other restaurants nearby offer so much more of a special dining experience for the same price.(sat tasting menu dinner £105per head. Plus additional charge for feature dishes)

Great gastropub. Lovely entertaining staff. The tasting menu offers inventive dishes, beautifully presented. We went for the non-alcoholic drinks pairing: a great choice. Fresh, inventive and very well matching the dishes. It’s a restaurant suited for foodies for sure. Worth a detour. The rooms are comfortable. With fresh cookies as welcome. The breakfast is of high quality, an awesome start to the day!

I hired the restaurant for my 60th birthday. I had been a few times with other friends just 2 or 3 of us. Having to serve up to 26 people at the same time I thought it wouldn’t be the same. I was wrong, it was even better. The staff were incredible, really couldn’t do enough for us. The food was outstanding and the vegetarian options as good. The wines amazing on the wine flight too. A sunny day to see the beautiful surroundings. It really was perfect. Everyone was happy. Thank you Matt and your team. Excellent!
CLARE R — Google review
We had a wonderful dinner at Heritage. Each course of the tasting menu was delicious and plentiful, as were the snacks and bread courses served alongside. We ordered an additional course of slow-cooked short-rib of beef, and the restaurant manager happily swapped out a dessert course for a generously-sized cheeseboard to meet my wife's dietary requirements. We opted to select our own wines to go with each course, as the wine flight was a bit too focused on whites and our preference is for red. It might be good to introduce carafes of some of the wines so there's the opportunity to sample more without purchasing a whole bottle. Service was spot on: friendly and perfectly paced over the 3+ hours from when we arrived in the bar. Will definitely return, although the pricing means it's probably a special-occasion destination for us.

Park
Victoria Park is a 14.5-acre green space in the town center of Haywards Heath, offering various recreational activities for people of all ages. It features amenities such as football fields, tennis courts, a skateboard park, and a playground with a paddling pool. The park is well-maintained and conveniently located near the main high street and amenities. During summer months, visitors can enjoy the water section and splash pad.
Beautiful park, not our local but we don't mind a few more minutes of a ride to come visit and relax.

Lovely park to visit, dog and child friendly. There’s a playground for children and a large field for ball games. It’s also a beautiful spot to loop around for a walk or jog. There is also a cafe, never tried the cafe but I’ve heard good things.
Chania B — Google review
Beautiful place with open free play grounds. My family and I very much love Victoria park and happily recommend it ❤️
Tetda D — Google review
Well looked after sprawling Park just off the main high street and therefore close to amenities. Lovely playpark for kids, a water section in the summer months. Wonderful treats and football pitch and an amazing well made concrete skatepark. The kids playpark is slightly tired but all the equipment works and it's got lots to play on. Benches and seating areas and concrete paths are accessible for wheelchairs via a sloped curving ramp next to the steps.
Michael W — Google review
Nice and clean mid sized park right in town. Luscious lawns, secure and clean mid sized play area with small water park and small outdoor gym section. Also has tennis courts, skate park and a small cafe. Surrounded by Haywards Heath town and shops a short walk away and a few free places to park; South Road free for 1hr and Park Road free for 4hrs. Cheap parking on Sundays @ Orchard Shopping Centre Car Park £1 all day. Beautiful and serene. Great for everyone and pets.
Cameron T — Google review
Autumn has arrived in Victoria Park! Great for picnic, walking the dog, playing on the field, running, football etc. This has been a venue for fair, concerts, exhibits, sporting events and car boot sale. There’s a lovely café by the skate park.
Richard Q — Google review
Love this park! Excellent play area which even has a water park when the weather is good. Lots of places to walk and picnic and play ball games. There's are 2 or 3 bits of outdoor gym equipment. Parking is easy. The park is a 2 minute walk from the shops and cafes. The park also has a wonderful little cafe of it's own, selling ice cream, drinks, cakes and snacks, with indoor and outdoor seating and toilets. There are various funfairs held on the main large grass area on regular occasions. There are also tennis courts. This is one of the best parks I've ever been to, it always looks clean and well kept. An excellent place to spend a couple of hours or more with children or dogs.

Kids love the splash pad in the summer. Water was a little low last visit but they still had a great time.

Barn Cottage Recreation Ground

(15)
Park
Barn Cottage Recreation Ground, also known as The Heath or Clair Meadow, is a charming open space surrounded by housing. Once part of the original Heath, it now offers woodland walks and a children's playground. Designated as a Conservation Area, the park is well-maintained and provides a quiet atmosphere for visitors. While lacking shade, the main area has neatly cut grass and ample space for various activities. Although more suitable for younger children, older kids can still enjoy the vast field.
Good place to chill out
Lordson S — Google review
Clean and tidy, quiet when we went (myself and 4 year old daughter) lack of shade a minor issue, and whilst the grass in the main area has been cut, inside the playground I'm sure I saw David Bellamy and Sir David Attenborough having a nosey round....
Acheronus80 — Google review
The park is good for little ones but not so much to do for slightly older kids. There's loads of space on the field which is great!

Nature preserve
Scrase Valley Nature Reserve, located between Haywards Heath and Lindfield, is a preserved wetland area that serves as a flood plain for the Scrase stream. It's an ideal spot for nature walks, bird watching, and educational field trips. The reserve has been designated as a Local Nature Reserve due to its valuable wildlife refuge. Visitors can enjoy exploring the area with toddlers or walking their dogs along the relatively level paths.
Beautiful little spot with some real wildlife finds. Too many dogs because of its location but friendly.
Robert S — Google review
Disappointing walk and not very long just full of dog walkers and their mess everywhere
Darrell D — Google review
I love coming here with my toddler. It's a fantastic little area to explore and learn about nature. Today we listened out for birds and looked in the water for different insects and frogs, we watched squirrels race around the trees, and enjoyed the quiet! It's a perfect place for dog walking too.
Shannon W — Google review
A gem for everyone in this corner of Haywards Heath with a vintage oak and many trees showing ‘ancient’ characteristics: hornbeam, birch and oak. All this and two meadows and a bubbling stream.
Jonathan V — Google review
Always a pleasant walk with well kept paths. Look out for the 300 year old oak tree it's huge.
Colin P — Google review
An extremely nice walk. Well trodden by dog walkers and joggers. River runs along the side of the footpath with a small waterfall which is just lovely to stand and listen too.

Lovely place, lots of ways in and out and easy walking distance from moat of Haywards Heath and Lindfield. Relatively level so easy walking, although some parts can get a little muddy when wet, but easily avoided.

A lovely quiet place for a dog walk or an easy stroll. Irs not big but very peaceful. Also if your dog likes to swim there are plenty of dtop in points along the river. My dog loves swomming here.

I was apprehensive about my first vaccination due to my fear of needles, but the staff at Clair Hall were exceptional. They showed great empathy and helped me stay calm during the process, ensuring it was done quickly. Everyone I encountered was friendly and kind. Although I'm not excited about returning for the second dose, I have confidence that I'll be well taken care of. My gratitude goes out to all the dedicated individuals working at Clair Hall and other vaccination centers; they are doing an outstanding job.
First of my vaccinations. Extremely well managed, so that through exactly on time, with all questions answered. No worries & happy that received my vaccination against Covid.

We went for our Corvid 19 jabs. Lots of car parking space. The hall has been shut during 2020, as the council can't afford to run it. After protesting the will be open. Needs a refurbishment to bring to a better state.
Jenny R — Google review
Very impressed by this venue which is where we received the Oxford vaccine. A capacious carpark. Easy access from the road. A large park adjacent. A very useful venue for a wide variety of purposes. It would be wonderful to see it used for social purposes again
Pamela M — Google review
This is a large community venue suitable for stage performances with other meeting rooms available. This building was threatened with demolition in 2020 but thanks to community uproar it has been saved for the future. It has a car park and bar facilities and lots of life left in it for future residents to enjoy the various productions staged there.
Jonathan C — Google review
Well laid out, competent staff. Bar can get busy and could with better queuing arrangement, one queue for each of the 3 tills could benefit. That's my only criticism of an excellent venue.
Tony D — Google review
Visited here for a NAFAS members day with a talk in the morning and a flower demonstration in the afternoon. Unfortunately the car park was closed for resurfacing. We had arrived early so the manager squeezed as many cars as she could into the immediate area in front of the hall. But not ideal for the majority of ladies arriving after that was full. Hall in good repair. Nice venue.

I am "not good" with needles and so was dreading my first vaccination two days ago, but when I arrived the staff were fantastic. They were very understanding and calmed me down enough to get the job over and done with quickly - everyone I encountered was friendly and really kind. I'm not exactly looking forward to going back for my second dose, but I am at least confident that I'll be in extremely good hands. Thank you to everyone working at Clair Hall (and the other centres); you're doing a great job!

Grounds and house brilliant. Lower terrace cafe where you sit in the rose garden very disappointing. Poor quality sandwich with very little filling. Hardly any choice . Worst coffee we have had all week. Management need to go and have their lunch there to experience what is being offered to paying customers. Not up to the standard the house and grounds deserve. Has made a disappointing end to a wonderful week in the Isle of Wight

The café boasts a diverse menu that caters to various dietary needs, including vegan and dairy-free options, ensuring everyone can find something delicious.
Quite possibly one of the best cafés I've been to. The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly. I would recommend the Maple Waffles with Egg Bacon and Sausage which was a 10 out of 10. The Strawberry Milkshake and Peppermint hot chocolate were good as well. The cakes were incredible, would recommend the Lotus Biscoff Cake and the Strawberry Dream.

I mean what can I say! This morning has been my first time here, I ordered the Sussex Breakfast, a flat white, and a glass of water. All round, from food to service to atmosphere, it was top class. Really enjoyed it! I would thoroughly recommend it to everyone. The staff are so so lovely, kind and hospitable. That’s 5 stars from me.

Tory’s Cafe is underrated! We’ve been here several times now for food and coffee and have never been let down. The food is amazing (the best superfood salad!), the coffee is great and the staff are all so lovely and welcoming. It’s a lovely set up with both a nice indoor and outdoor area. We love this place and highly recommend if you’re in the area!

The food here is lovely! I can't believe that I never thought to come here before. I had the vegetarian breakfast and it was so yummy😋!!! I definitely will be coming again! My mum got the regular English breakfast and she has said this place does the best English breakfast compared to the many other places she has been to before!

Really gorgeous cafe in Victoria Park. There is the option of inside seating in the cafe itself or outside tables on the paved areas outside. Toilets and baby changing facilities inside and then a disable toilet with wheelchair access round the side of the building. The staff are lovely and friendly and the food is excellent. There is always something really good if you are vegan/dairy free and it’s always appreciated when a cafe has a rotating selection of dairy free cakes! I often come here with my son and it’s really convenient having everything we need (unisex access to changing facilities, dairy free food, etc.) in one location.

Canton Kitchen Review Just had an absolutely fantastic meal from Canton Kitchen! Every dish was fresh, hot, and full of flavor. The lemon chicken was crispy with the perfect balance of tangy and sweet, while the chicken in oyster sauce and chicken in mushroom sauce were both rich, savory, and packed with tender chicken. The chow mein was deliciously seasoned with just the right texture, and both the egg fried rice and vegetable fried rice were fluffy, fragrant, and full of flavor. The chips were crispy and golden, perfect for dipping, and the prawn crackers were light and crunchy. The chicken and mushroom soup was comforting and full of hearty goodness. Overall, an amazing meal—generous portions, excellent quality, and everything arrived hot and fresh. Highly recommend Canton Kitchen and will definitely be ordering again!

Relatively expensive for what you get but would have been okay if the food was better- unfortunately the spring rolls were large but completely tasteless and the rest had a somewhat synthetic flavour. Delivery was quick, although one of the main items was wrong. They offered a refund on the incorrect item but it had to be done through the app.

Nestled at the foot of the picturesque Sussex Downs, The Star is a charming former religious hostel that has been transformed into an upscale country hotel since its acquisition by hospitality expert Olga Polizzi in 2021. Overlooking the serene Cuckmere River, this delightful establishment boasts stunning Bloomsbury-inspired artworks and features an enchanting Elizabethan-style floor in its dining area.
A unexpected live music night at The Star was absolutely fantastic The atmosphere is always buzzing, with a variety mix of talented performers and a friendly crowd. The sound quality is spot-on, and you can really tell the team puts a lot of effort into making the night a good one. The staff are welcoming, the drinks are flowing, price isn’t too bad for high street and the vibe is unbeatable. Will be back again soon.

Fish and chips takeaway
British restaurant
Washington's Fish & Chips in Haywards Heath is a local favorite, known for its freshly cooked and generous portions of fish and chips. Customers appreciate the friendly service and options like spam fritters and gluten-free choices. The crispy, fresh, and fluffy chips have received high praise, with many patrons impressed by the quality of the food. Online ordering and pick-up options make it convenient for those with busy schedules.
I hardly ever get take away especially fish and chips , but due to , I’m decorating and being busy time factor ect , I went to Washington's about 3 weeks ago and was very impressed , today , still decorating same room, and no time, daughter coming to dinner, I used online order and pick up. Fabulous cannot fault it ! My daughter had a regular cid and chips. She could no way nearly eat it all. I had a cheeseburger and you can customise it, in a way I’ve never seen from any other place, ( ordering in advance) and it was gawjus, it really was , him indoors had cheesy chips and two saveloys, and had to leave a savoy as it was too much. The chips are the best chip shop chips ever. Well done and thankyou so much to your team.
Karen L — Google review
Whenever I go to a chippy I always have beef and onion pie, so I know it's the one in the red foil. I could see there was one ready in the heater so I ordered that. A chap came in after me and ordered the same and his was ready before mine and he took the pie. As a result, I was given a soggy pie which must have been cooked in the microwave. Not a bit of puff pastry in sight. Very disappointed. The chips were decent and the curry sauce was pretty bland. I also think this is overpriced. £7 for a kids sausage and chips meal and £4 for a pie. The young lad who served me was really friendly. The man cooking the food didn't seem particularly friendly and didn't say a word or look up at any of his customers. Wouldn't return here when there are other chip shops available nearby.
Clive H — Google review
Rarely order from chip shops, but Washington’s did not disappoint - hot, fresh food via Deliveroo and was very tasty. They even threw in some curry sauce for free ‘on the house’! - Thanks!
Neil H — Google review
Ordered large cod and chips plus jumbo battered sausage and mushy peas via Deliveroo. Arrived quickly and couldn’t fault the food. Nice and hot and when they say large cod they mean it. Batter on cod and jumbo sausage very crispy and not too greasy and the chips were well cooked. Lovely mushy peas. Well recommended.
Melvyn T — Google review
First time using this chippy yesterday and most definitely my last. Can't even rate it 2 star because of the portion size. Quality over quantity please! The batter was a huge let down for me, generally what separates a good chippy from a poor one. Thick and stoggy with the odd rather unpleasant mouthfuls. Cod wasn't as flakey as I like and the chips were just poor. Curry sauce was tasteless too. My girlfriend didn't even enjoy her chips and battered sausage either. On fishy Friday, I'd like to think they'd produce their best. Hugely disappointed for £22. Won't be returning.
Nick A — Google review
I’ve been visiting a friend’s daughter in Haywards Heath and last week we ordered food from this place which I went to collect. I ordered beef and onion pie for myself and I was shocked to see it was a ‘Pukka Pie,’ certainly not what I expected. The chips were bland and tasteless. After that experience, this is certainly not somewhere that I would recommend
Richard C — Google review
Terrible food, anemic chips with no flavour, the cod was over cooked and the batter was dark, flat and tasted of cooking oil. A waste of money. Such a shame as it used to be so much better.
