Sartene in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Sartene, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Sartène, often called one of the most “Corsican” of Corsican towns, is known for its medieval stone houses, maze-like alleyways and dramatic hilltop setting overlooking the Rizzanese valley. Its historic center features atmospheric squares, old ramparts and the 16th‑century church of Sainte-Marie. Nearby, you’ll find prehistoric sites such as Cauria’s menhirs, as well as easy access to rugged inland landscapes and beaches along the southwest coast. Traditional festivals and local wines from the surrounding vineyards add to its distinct regional character.
With favorites like Casa di Roccapina, L'Oasis du Lion, and Bains de Caldane, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like L'Oasis du Lion and La Storia so you can get the best taste of Sartene while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Bains de Caldane is a charming hotel with an elegant restaurant and outdoor thermal bathing pools, offering a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. The facility provides quality onsen experiences at an affordable price, making it a great recommendation for friends. While the staff may not be fluent in English, visitors can still enjoy the simple yet lovely atmosphere and good food at the restaurant. Guests have described their time at Bains de Caldane as peaceful and fantastic, highlighting the enjoyable thermal baths and massages available on site.
A wonderful place to experience a natural thermal bath in a fantastic, tranquil setting.

Not worth driving out of your way for. Was an odd experience. Everything looked closed. We walked to the baths and they were a little under whelming. No one bothered pulling their phones out for a photo. Probably a nice getaway for a couple and not for teenage kids.
Steve A — Google review
The baths are ok! But the hotel is not ok... the bed is uncomfortable, and they told my boyfriend it was mandatory to stay 2 nights due to high season and when we arrived it was EMPTY, after that people arrived and they were allowed to stay 1 night! It’s not nice to see how they bribe you in front of you! After that, the price they charge for demi pension and without are not well calculated... the first night with Demi pension it’s 30€ per person, 2nd night 42,5€, 3rd night 40€... they should watch out this kind of things, it’s ridiculous! I starred with 2 stars because the food of the restaurant is good! Not the breakfast!
Tania L — Google review
Lovely relaxing experience It's inexpensive 7 Euros for approximately mins.
Diane T — Google review
Nice bains. Polite in case you are able to speak french. If not, it is like normal in french or in this case corsica...the staff is not polite anymore
Andre P — Google review
We enjoyed each second indulging in hot spring in Corsica! This place comes as a surprise and with the quality of onsen, facility, charges, and service, we are happy to recommend to our friends.

Nothing fancy, very simple and cute. The restaurant was good. Will be back

Relaxing.. although, I'm a bit of a germaphobe, I question wether they clean it often because there were black little dirt floating everywhere.. Im guessing those are dead skin cells..

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Spina Cavallu is a 13th-century Genoese bridge located on the Rizzanese River, known for its unique shape resembling a horse's back. It is considered to be the work of architect Maestro Maternato and has been designated as a historic monument since 1992. Visitors can enjoy walking across the bridge, with the opportunity to explore a small ruin at one end and relax by the clean waters of the river.
Nice little bridge, easy access and parking, peaceful. You could even swim, although the water is not cristal clear, I mean is good but Compared to the seaside is not the same. Nice spot to do a picnic and get refreshed
Javier U — Google review
Ancient historical stone arched bridge spanning a small creek. Still stable and functioning. Can’t imagine why they went to all this trouble. Must have been an important passage hundreds of years ago.
Benjamin G — Google review
Very photogenic and calm place. A small car park on the other side of the road allows free and close parking. Take the time to walk around the bridge and come back on the other side to take more photo
Ian L — Google review
Nice very old stone bridge that you can climb and walk to the other side. Be careful - there is a dam further up stream so the level of the water can rise rapidly. There is no specific parking spot for visiting this place but there are some spots beside the road to safely park.
Zala L — Google review
Interesting but not worth a special trip unless you're a 13th century bridge history buff!
Dave H — Google review
Beautiful is the best way to describe this place
Alex G — Google review
Pretty bridge, nice scenery - we were lucky with goats passing by. The water is clear and fresh; people were swimming in the river. Though there is a warning sign (see picture attached). It's worth stopping your car for. And the road is a good road. We were a bit worried; some roads to historic view points have a "historic road" 😉 too - not really suitable for a van/bus. But this is a good road! And parking available near the bridge. (If this post has been helpful to you, please let me know, via 👍 so I will post more. Thank you & enjoy!)

This historic house showcases fascinating exhibitions about the area's rich history and its iconic rock formations, including the renowned Lion of Roccapina. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views after a short hike to a nearby viewpoint, where climbing on rocks adds an adventurous touch to your visit. The museum offers valuable insights into local culture for just 2 euros, with free parking available for convenience.
Nice little museum to get some insights in the area and history of that area. Museum was well worth its money (2 euros). free parking

Beach
Nature & Parks
Plage de Roccapina is a must-see destination in southern Corsica, overlooked by the iconic Lion of Roccapina rock formation and a Genoese tower. This 400-meter stretch of pristine white sand is nestled at the base of lush green hills, creating a natural amphitheater effect. The beach is bathed in golden sunlight during the day and offers a picturesque setting for relaxation and sunbathing. Visitors can also climb the lion-shaped rock for stunning views of the beach.
Gorgeous white sand beach and blue sea. Not overcrowded when we visited midweek mid September. Access to the beach is off road - it is absolutely fine to drive down as long as you drive slowly so don’t be put off by the other reviews
Sophie H — Google review
This beach comes highly recommended by many, but in my opinion, it is somewhat overrated. When we arrived, the beach was in the condition shown in the photos – more than half of it was unfortunately covered in seaweed. However, there were parts of the beach where this didn't detract from its beauty, allowing us to fully appreciate its charm. The water was excellent, providing a refreshing experience, and the sand was pleasantly soft underfoot. One of the biggest downsides of this beach is the road leading to it. The drive takes about 10 minutes over a very bumpy road. However, I think some of the other reviews exaggerate the difficulty of the journey. While you don't need a special vehicle, as many suggest, it is true that you need to be cautious, especially with a low-clearance car. We saw all kinds of vehicles in the parking lot at the end, including some low-set cars. It just requires careful driving to avoid scraping the bottom of your car. If your vehicle has decent ground clearance and isn't too low, you should manage just fine. The real question is whether the beach is worth the effort. Lastly, there's the neighboring beach, Plage de Erbaju, which is much larger and visible on the map. It’s said that you can walk to it from this beach, but we didn’t find any clearly marked paths. The paths through the bushes near the parking area were very overgrown, and while it might be possible to make the trek, it would likely be challenging, especially if you're carrying items or have children with you. We contacted the exclusive restaurant on that beach, and they informed us that it is a private beach, only accessible by reservation and without children. So, perhaps if you walk there, you might be able to enjoy the beach, but unfortunately, we weren’t able to.
Karol K — Google review
Be careful, you need to take a gravel road to go next to this beautiful beach. Alternatively one can park the car in the main street and walk to the beach for about 30 minutes. The water is crystal clear. A true beautiful beach. There's nothing around, don't forget to bring your own drinks and food.
F. Z — Google review
The beach itself is nice but can be overcrowded (23 of July), the water was more refreshing than on other beaches. The road to the beach is overestimated in terms of difficulty, we did it on VW Touran without any issues - just cautious and attentive drive and some experience of driving on unpaved terrain.
Oleg S — Google review
The best beach of the entire Corsica, amazing is a big pool thin sand very light color and water calm and warmer
Giorgio F — Google review
Had no issue driving on the road in my Ford Fiesta. The beach was stunning and crystal clear. Keep in mind that the sand is very fine and in case of wind it is a bit annoying because the sand becomes airborne.
Robin K — Google review
The beach is indeed amazing, it was crowded when we arrived and wow, if you’re in a car with a chassis low to the ground and more than 2 travelers GOOD LUCK driving down from the main road T40. We were 2 in a standard vehicle but we followed a long line of cars with passengers that had to get out of the car at every “bump”. I’m amazed that roads like this even exist without a warning sign but they in fact do so know before you go, the voyage down and back up IS A SAFARI, you’re best off in an SUV or a 4x4. The people who choose to walk down from the main parking lot have a 30-45 minute hike dodging cars that are making their way up and down. It’s definitely not the most ideal way to end a day at the beach. That being said, amazing views, nicer voyage for those traveling by yacht or catamaran I imagine 😉
Sydney M — Google review
This is a really beautiful beach. It’s not the biggest and you can only reach it down a terrible potholed track but it’s perfect if you like undeveloped beaches. Soft white sand and a crystal clear turquoise sea with small waves. There are several places to park. Some better than others. It’s very busy during the July and August period but it’s more peaceful in the off peak months. And of course there is the Roccapina lion rock overlooking the bay.

L'Oasis du Lion is an authentic inn known for its high-quality homemade cuisine, where even the bread is made from scratch. The owner, La Belle Helene, who has 80 years of experience, personally cooks and ensures guests' satisfaction. The dining room is adorned with old tools, bells, and jam makers on its stone walls. Visitors may also encounter friendly dogs and cats during their meal. This charming place offers top-notch service and a warm atmosphere with a stunning view.
I have been here three decades ago when I was 20 with a friend of mine. L erbaghiu was a dream which suddenly disappeared. I still remind the taste of the fried zucchini and two fantastic girls. I forgot their names, but not their smiles and eyes. Are you still here babes? Free korsika!

Very authenthic old place with a nice owner, castle feeling. We spend a night here and it is very different, with an amazing view The dogs are friendly. If you don’t like the dogs, you can go to the bar area, they are not allowed there. You can also eat there anyhow

Amazing place and great food , so fresh, we had a stop to watch the sunset and it was great there. You can have your meal with beautiful cats around you.

Worst food ever. The pizza I ordered had a raw bottom, but the edges were burnt. The jambon was too hard to chew, tasted terrible. Price? €16 for this monstrosity. It doesnt even have cheese on it. Everything here is expensive. Small Coca cola €4,50. the cook is an 80+ year old woman that obviously lost her magic touch. The meat and fries are also unacceptable, no ketchup/mayo and meat wasnt tender at all. Sauce was overly sweet, like a caramel snack. I would highly reccomend skipping this restaurant and stopping at the next one. Even if it’s miles away. Save yourself, please.

Classic tourist trap. Bad service, we waited far too long on our food. The food was pretty bad as well. Cats and one dog running around in the restaurant. Very pricy for the poor experience, spend your money elsewhere.

Expensive kitchen with dogs and cats all over the place, blunt service and difficult communication. Rooms are ok but dated. View is great, roccapina beach is close by.

La Storia is a renowned establishment in Sartene, known for its warm and authentic atmosphere. It offers local specialties and frequent events, providing an opportunity to experience Corsica through both taste and conviviality. The restaurant hosts numerous concerts to enhance the dining experience, making it a great place for families and friends to enjoy. Despite its simple yet effective Corsican hospitality, the cuisine is excellent without being pretentious.
A real find off the main square, has 16 tables, 4 of them outside, great seasonal and local produce. We shared super tasty charcuterie and a delicious salads followed by wild boar lasagne, rib eye steak and brocci cannelloni. Followed with coffee and crème caramel, all served by friendly staff. They also have live music with local guitar 🎸🎸🎶 players entertaining guests. 😋😋😋

Good service, good ambiance. Food disappointing- I ordered the Civet de Sanglier, and what came out was a sweet potato mash (cold) with mushrooms and a tiny sprinkle of meat on top. Not at all a civet, and it was almost cold. I heard the microwave beep twice. My man got the lasagna and it was ok, but it was so skinny and so tiny.

Nice place with amazing yummy food in a big portion, totally worth it, recommended if you are visiting Sartene

What a find! Tucked down a narrow street, this cozy restaurant offers homemade Corsican food and a small but excellent wine list. The seafood soup was one of the best we have had, and the Haricots Soissons and Salcicellu (Corsican sausage) was perfect. The portions were copious. The staff were super friendly. We will definitely be back.

We had a fantastic lunch here recently while trying to escape the blazing sun. The food was hardy and made with care, and the ambiance of this little tucked-away gem was super cozy. Service was incredibly friendly and engaging, and the wait staff seemed to really take an interest in their guests, making for a warm welcome to Corsica. Would 100% recommend you check out La Storia if you're in or about Sartene.
