Albrechtsburg Castle, purported to be Germany's oldest, overlooks the River Elbe and offers a rich blend of art and history. Visitors can take a steep staircase or a cable car to reach the castle, with both options offering stunning views of the medieval skyline and the Elbe river. The castle is located in Meissen, known for its historic town center, religious buildings, cultural institutions, and world-famous porcelain factory.
Beautiful castle, well labeled rooms. The Histopad for tours was just OK. You end up looking at the screen instead of the beautiful reality right in front of you.

This place is incredible an absolutely stunning castle on the... I was lucky enough to be performing there as part of the magical music of Harry Potter Orchestra tour 👊🎶 and the town itself is absolutely gorgeous. Enjoy. I can recommend staying at goldenesfass guest house and spa. X the deatheater
Jon C — Google review
Absolutely wonderful. The exhibitions are clear and educative. The castle itself was mesmerising. The lift and ramps are available for people with mobility issues. The tickets can be brought separately with audioguide.
Fauzul R — Google review
Very well taken care of castle. Audio guide or visual tablet guide available. I chose the english audio guide but i couldn’t get the third floor codes to work. Lots to look at— the church itself has a separate price for entrance so make sure to buy both at once. Lockers provided with pfant. There are trails to walk around the exterior too which I recommend. Also lots of cool things to look at in town :)
Jo J — Google review
Beautifully maintained. Interesting layout with living areas, working areas and local history / architecture display.
Dan G — Google review
Audio tour or devices were available in the castle section to learn about the history in your language. Highly recommend it.

The most beautiful castle with gorgeous interiors, paintings and architecture. The castle, dom and town are exceed the expectations.

Meissen Cathedral, a grand Gothic structure built between 1260 and 1410, is a stunning example of medieval architecture. Adjacent to the castle, it features intricate sculptures and steeples added in 1909. The cathedral's exterior showcases impressive polychrome statues of Holy Roman Emperor Otto and Adelaide of Burgundy, while its interior boasts a Protestant pulpit. Visitors can also enjoy panoramic views of Meissen from the hill where the cathedral is located.
A stunning cathedral with a rich German history. We really enjoyed our visit. It is 6 euros to enter, but worth the visit.
Michael M — Google review
Meissen Cathedral sure worth a visit. You have to pay a little to enter, but in this case it is justified: in the cathedral situated also a museum with interesting relics, as well as the tomb of the Saxon rulers with detailed explanations, including English. I advise to climb to the cathedral by feet through the old town, you will be rewarded with amazing views and interesting objects. The observation deck of the cathedral itself is also a must-see
Irina S — Google review
Fantastic cathedral. Entry has a small charge. However it is well worth it. It's a great and interesting cathedral and also has a wonderful small museum. There are joint tickets for this the castle and porcelain factory if you are going to do them all.
Kevin M — Google review
A mediaval marvel rising above the elne river . This cathedral was built next to the castle of altrecht. The. Church has been expanded several times to grow to its present size really worth the visit. The second wife of William of orange prince of the Netherlands named anna of saxony who was declarered insane lived is buried here as well after she was sent back to her home country
Joost V — Google review
Astonishing cathedral with a rich history and beautiful relics. Costs 4 euro to enter. Quiet and almost spooky due to the old imagery and ancient history. Highly recommend to visit while in meissen. Bathrooms are hidden so ask if needed.
Jacob Y — Google review
Blissful. Quite. Beauty. Have to visit this place for it's beautiful Hill top location and a city which contributes to the most produced high end porcelain items.
Nidhi S — Google review
Last entrance is at 16. Beware. The cathedral is great, but we got denied entry because we needed to somehow telepathically learn that on this day the cathedral is open for visitors only till 16 instead of 18. We bought a ticket for what is free in other cities, so we expected better conditions
Morphine O — Google review
Very nice Cathedral. Definitely recommend the 2€ guided tour to the bell tower. You can climb very high and the view is amazing.

Marktplatz is a charming square located in the heart of the city, surrounded by colorful buildings, restaurants, and bars. It serves as the venue for markets and houses the Tourist Information office. The area exudes a cozy atmosphere, especially during events like the Christmas Market, where visitors can enjoy food and drinks while soaking up the festive spirit. Despite being a popular spot for locals, it remains relatively undiscovered by international tourists.
We visited this lovely market as part of our Viking River Cruise’s excursion in the Christmas market season! This cute and tiny Christmas market is located in the old town of the city of Meissen. We also had our lunch here in one or the restaurant. You can’t get more Germane than this. Meissen is known for their porcelain production. But the old town which was not bombed during the World War II that have many historical building are so unique and beautiful. This marketplace have many are just like that.!
Steven C — Google review
In Old town with a castle along the Elbe River with plenty to do over a weekend. The Marktplatz itself is not large, but a good size for the smaller town. It still manages to capture the charm and history of early Germany. It never appears overcrowded like Venice, but isn't the size of Dresden either. A lot of places to eat, drink, see and the Altstadt is mostly restricted to pedestrians and bicycles. If you want the larger crowds here come during the Wein Fest or Christmas Market. Meissen also has Albrechtsburg Castle, the porcelain factory and a good stop if on the Elbe bicycling trail.
Keith R — Google review
We visited Meissen for the Christmas Market. It was amazing. Really cozy market square. They do a really good job with their Christmas Market. Lots of food and drink. People just enjoying the season. We had a blast.
Michael M — Google review
Meißen's Marktplatz is a charming historic square, though it lacks diverse dining options. However, it truly comes alive during the Christmas season with a magical market atmosphere. Worth visiting for its festive spirit and beautiful surroundings!
Knghtfall — Google review
Very beautiful tiny city with a very charming castle. Highly recommended for a weekend city break. Multiple hotels guesthouses, restaurants, cafés - and still, this city does not give an impression of a crowded place or a typical touristic destination (seems this city is not that widely known abroad as vast majority of tourists here are Germans). It's possible to efficiently communicate in English, people are helpful and friendly. The oldest porcelain factory in Europe is located here in Meissen, so it's offering thematical shops and museums. Highly recommended.

Nestled in the heart of Meissen, St. Benno Gewölberestaurant is a delightful culinary gem that you might just stumble upon during your travels. With its charming ambiance and friendly service, this restaurant offers a warm welcome to all who enter. The menu features delicious options like smoked salmon tartare paired with fresh salads, making it an ideal spot for lunch after exploring the town's attractions. While the service may occasionally feel a bit hurried, the quality of food remains consistently enjoyable.
We really enjoyed the food and service. The Schnitzel with asparagus was tasty. William was a great host and very patiently explained the menu options to us and made us feel very welcome.
Héctor R — Google review
Ate lunch here. Smoked Salmon Tartare with salad, plus some cucumber and potato salad. Both were very pleasant to eat. Just as I would expect for a lunch service in a German tourist town. Service could have been a lot quicker. Waiting staff seemed rushed. Worth a visit if you’re passing by.

(Translated by Google) After all, it's a restaurant where you cook and don't just heat up the finished products. I have to admit, this is the best beef I've ever eaten in Meissen. Red cabbage is excellent. Quark legs are delicious and, above all, made on site. A recommended restaurant. We'll definitely be back.

Small cozy restaurant iwith rustical ambience with germanl/hungerian-like cuisine in the best way. The dishes were very nicely made, and the waitress had a lot of patience with our non german speaking group. Menu's are german only and communication is a little difficult but they put the most effort into understanding us an explaining dishes. They were very lovely! Even though it is so close to the castle prices were very resondable. Can only recommend this place! However, the cuisine is mostly includes meat.
