Memorial & museum at former Nazi concentration camp, with visitor center & audio tours.
We had an amazing visit to Mauthausen, all is very well conserved and very impactful. The entry is free, and for 5€ you can have an audioguide (without headset, but you can bring yours), but you can also have it online for free. I recommend going at first hour to be alone (which impress even more), because after it starts getting crowded.

Very sombre experience, hard to imagine how one human can be so terribly cruel to another. Sad that the prisoner thought it was easier to take their own lives by jumping onto rocks in the quarry, below the camp. Eerie feeling about the place, but so many stories to hear.
DEB R — Google review
One of the most harrowing experiences of my life - coming face to face with the total rupture of humanity and watching the world explode with the same hate again was almost too much to handle. But the survivors and their families, and their optimism, brings hope!
David E — Google review
Was here for the 80th anniversary commemoration for the liberation of the camp, and on a separate occasion, I visited the museum and grounds. The museum is well put together and the exhibits are informative and comprehensive. I was here for several hours but I felt like it wasn't enough to truly absorb everything. The camp is located near a town by the same name, and it always makes me unsettled when I think about how many people lived in such close proximity to the camp during the war, and just kept on with their lives, ignoring the atrocities being committed just a few kilometers away. The town still exists today and is populated. I can't imagine living anywhere near this place, especially given that most of the Mauthausen inhabitants are probably descendants of Nazis.
Natan R — Google review
Very educational and a must visit to learn about the Holocaust victims and history of it. I grew up nearby so seen it during school time already, but the museum and all description have been enhanced by a lot. Also for english speakers no problem as all is also described in English and there is an app with audio guides as well in multiple languages, so everyone can visit and learn about this dark time of the history.

Everybody needs to visit these concentration camps. Visited while cycle touring the Danube

An amazing experience. The museum and displays are tastefully done and tell the story. The audio guide was very well done and informative. Our kids were engaged and interested in the history. Recommend not taking small children as the topics are obviously heavy.

Dear reader in order to fully understand this location you must invest some time in your own education. This is place of ghosts, silent tears and invisible blood. This place represents the very worst of humanity. Please don't be one of those "turists" that's having a casual walk, be one who fully understand it and appreciate effort of preservation of this location. Also keep in mind this location is resting place of thousands persons.

Marbacher Linde is a magnificent tranquil spot ideal for unwinding and rejuvenating. Nestled amidst picturesque surroundings, this location offers breathtaking vistas that are sure to captivate visitors. The distant view, especially on clear days, is truly remarkable. (Translated by Google) A wonderful place to stay and build on life. The Marbacher Linde is a very special place where you like to stay longer. The breathtaking panoramic view of the Mühlviertel and the impressive Alpine chain in the south make your stay here a real experience. The view also extends to the memorial site of the former concentration camp. This place reminds not only of the beauty of life, but also of its deep shadows. If people were to get involved in life in all its depth, if they really understood life, there wouldn't be anything so horrible. Spending time under the linden tree can help you feel life more consciously - its preciousness, its incomprehensible beauty, the depth of being and the responsibility to live it with full awareness. Whether on foot or by bike – this place is simply beautiful whatever the weather. And you often meet pleasant people here with whom you can have a good conversation. A clear recommendation for everyone who values nature, silence and awareness.

Really great hotel and restaurant. Beautiful river views (if your room is on the river side) and a cute garden view on the other side. Reception was very pleasant to deal with. I appreciate that I can make a reservation on the phone. Food was good too! Rooms were nice and clean. No complaints. Thank you for the nice stay.

We were traveling on a bike trip from Amsterdam to Budapest and we stayed here one night. It’s a very nice property but after staying in over 20 hotels during this trip we have always made a small sandwich at breakfast to take for a snack or lunch on the road. Previous hotels have been super gracious with providing these. While we prepared these today, the hostess said that we are not allowed to take them, we must eat them at breakfast. We were stunned and gently protested to no avail so we left them to be wasted on our plates. We paid about €150 for both rooms so this policy seems inappropriate. Also, we noticed, comparing our level of consumption to other guests, that we ate significantly less anyway. A warning or request to be discreet would have been appreciated since now the food went to waste. What would have been a wonderful stay left us all with a very negative impression of the hotel.
Jon K — Google review
Modern hotel with spacious, well equipped rooms and quite nice view on the river. Cleanliness is on high level. Service is helpful, nice and speaking English. The food in restaurant is tasty and rich, no there. The only negative is main road below the windows, so sometimes noisy during the night as well.

Fantastic hotel on the side of the Danube.. Looks really modern on the outside, the rooms follow this theme and are large and immaculately clean and so quiet at night. Yet, when you go into the bar/restaurant it is like going into a traditional Austrian Gasthof, absolutely brilliant! The staff were all really friendly (we turned up hot, sweaty and tired in motorcycle gear..they didn't blink an eye😃) Food, evening meal and breakfast, was superb, as was the beer and wine!

The hotel interiour itself is very nice. The appartment was OK. We were three, there was a double bed and a sofa/canape for the third person that was very unconfortable. There was a bit noisy from outside. The room is equipped with coffe machine and some coffe. Dinner was not available on that day in the hotel. Bathroom is quite big. Breakfast is OK with no plant based milk. Bikes were locked for night.

I booked this hotel for my business trip to Linz. The hotel location is very good, over seeing the Danube and not far from Linz. The hotel staff were very helpful and kind. Breakfast was good with many good options, including healthier ones. The room was very clean and modern. The only "down" side was booking, I couldn't find English language on their website, but it was still manageable.

Rooms are clean, spacious and modernly furbished. Coffee machine in each room. Air conditioned and heating regulated. Might be a bit noisy at times, due to the vicinity of the main road.

Restaurant
Nestled just a short stroll from the memorial, Moststube Frellerhof is a delightful family-owned restaurant that offers an inviting atmosphere perfect for visitors. With its spacious tavern-like setting and large communal tables, it’s ideal for groups. The friendly staff goes above and beyond to ensure guests feel welcome, making it especially accommodating for families. The outdoor terrace provides stunning views of the picturesque Austrian countryside, where you can enjoy the charming sight of baby goats frolicking nearby.
We stopped here after visiting the memorial, and had a lovely time. Its just a short ways down the hill from the memorial. The service was exceptionally friendly and helpful to our tourist American family. The Christmas decorations were lovely and there were cute baby goats outside near the large terrace overlooking the beautiful rolling hills of the Austrian countryside. Nice open and spacious tavern-like setting, large tables seating over 10 people, large bar area, clean bathrooms.I highly recommend this place if you are in the area, for example before or after viait8ng the Mauthausen memorial site.

The atmosphere, service and food were amazing. We had Brettljause and the dessert Besoffener Bauer.

Beautiful environment but that's where it ends. Absolutely inadequate approach to guests, no one cares about guests. After ordering an Aperol, we waited for another 20 minutes if we wanted order food or to pay at all (there was few others guest). Lucklily we didn't order anything else, because the pub doesn't even say anywhere that only cash can be paid. The drunk manager rolled his eyes when I brought him 11 euros in change. Don't go here.
