Beaches
Seitan Limania, also known as Stefanou, is a remote sandy beach located in a cove surrounded by striking rock formations on the Akrotiri Peninsula near Chania. Despite its small size, it has gained popularity for its unique landscape and stunning turquoise waters. The beach used to be a hidden gem but became famous after an Instagram picture went viral. Visitors can enjoy swimming in the teal waters and may even encounter local goats hanging out on the cliffs.
Iconic beach. The hike down is steep, but absolutely worth it for the views and unreal color of the sea. We went early in the morning and enjoyed some privacy, but it got crowded very fast. Overall, a truly unique experience 💙
İpek S — Google review
Wonderfull unique beach. The climb down is steep but fine and generally safe if you are with normal shoes and carefull. The water is clear and beautiful. There are also rocks from which you can jump off in to the water. The road to the beach is good (bit steep at the end) and the parking is a bit rugged. All on all I would highly recommend visiting this beach as early in the day as possible.
Bojan A — Google review
Seitan Limania has a beautiful view when you arrive, but the access is very difficult for people with reduced mobility, we had to go down a cliff to arrive at the beach, for us, the beach was amazing but the water was milky and the place is very small for the amount of people. In the beach you can climb rocks for cliff jumping. The beach is also good for snorkeling, there are a lot of fish.
Manuel M — Google review
Such natural beauty, but you gotta work to make it there. Do not wear sandals, you will instantly regret it There are 2 was to go down, one has a chain that gives you something to grab, and the other route has small red + white markers that indicate the path Water was beautiful
Peter M — Google review
Nice hike! Not very difficult, 10-15 minutes walk - so worth it! It is crowded but in my opinion it’s not that bad and you can always find a quiet spot. There are some cool rocks you can jump from. Very nice day trip
Adi K — Google review
Stunning beach with crystal clear water and breathtaking views! The hike down is challenging and tricky so good sneakers are highly recommended; I tried it in slippers and definitely wouldn’t suggest it. Going back up is easier than going down, but you still need to be very careful.. because of this and since the water gets deep very quickly, I wouldn’t recommend it for children. The beach itself is small but absolutely worth the effort, one of the most dreamy beaches. Definitely a must visit!
Maria R — Google review
The sea and view is amazing but to reach there is a nightmare. First of all you need to cross the curves by car. Then a harsh path will be waiting for you. If you are not a hiking person, I do not recommend it. We were able to reach the beach but we kept thinking about how will we go back to our car 😅 worth to see it only if you like challenging yourself.
Selma Y — Google review
We managed to arrive at Seitan limania, this outstanding beach, by 6:30 in the morning and were lucky to be the first ones there. Getting down was a bit challenging, but it was absolutely worth it. The water is crystal clear and truly amazing. If you’re nearby, this beach is definitely a must-visit. After 9 AM it started to get crowded, with more people and boats arriving from the sea. Surprisingly, the way back up wasn’t as tough as the way down. And honestly—being there early, with just the sound of the waves and the rising sun hitting the turquoise water—it felt like stepping into a postcard.

Churches & Cathedrals
The Holy Trinity (Agia Triada) Tzagaroli Monastery, located in the Akrotiri Peninsula in Crete, is an active Byzantine monastery with a rich history dating back to the 17th century.
3€ per person to get in. This is an active monastery so you need proper attire. Bigger than I expected with beautiful plants and flowers inside the courtyard. Everything is well maintained. The church in the center is also beautiful. There is a room with human skulls in commodes which was surprising. There is a small museum with a couple of rooms with great religious artifacts, including some 12 century parchemins ! If you are in the area it is well worth a detour.
Gabriel D — Google review
It’s a beautiful place, but be aware: I was charged €5 instead of the usual €3, without any explanation. This might have been because I was wearing shorts and they asked me to use a scarf to cover them. However, after me, other visitors entered wearing dresses and were not asked to cover up. If you visit, I suggest bringing your own scarf or saying you don’t have cash — some people mentioned they were allowed to enter for free. The garden is very well kept.
Elena V — Google review
I visited this place unplanned and it was a very nice surprise. Complex in a very good condition with a museum, many plants and monastery in the centre. Please respect the holly place with appropriate clothes and behaviour. Big parking next to the monastery.
Alicja J — Google review
Very big and interesting monastery, big parking lot and not too crowded, would recommend. Plus, there was an abundance of cats, which is always a great thing. At the top there was a cool view as well
Panda_Panda11 — Google review
Holy experience! Very cute little monastery and peaceful. You’ll be welcomed by a multilingual monk. Wine tasting and olive oil testing available from 11:00 to 17:00 in the museum on the left side of the entrance.

Absolutely stunning monastery to visit. Location, architecture and church are breath taking. Highly recommended and remember to have cash to get in as it's 3€ donation per person.
Simone S — Google review
Visited here today 5th July 25. Wow, what a place! A well kept Greek Orthodox monastery complex on the Akrotiri Peninsula. The entrance fee is €2.50 p/p and is up about 12-15 steps. Appropriate dress must be worn, no short shorts or bare shoulders. There are some cover-ups available. The monastery gardens are well tended too and there are some shady spots to sit and cool down. There is also a monastery shop selling religious icons, rosaries, postcards and some bracelets. There is a museum, displaying religious artifacts, liturgical copes, chasuble vestments, parchment scrolls etc. The church within the walls was small with very ornate chandeliers and guilded screen. The domed ceiling portraying a picture of Jesus was quite striking and the guilded pictures throughout were vivid in their depictions. The entrance hall held an image of the Madonna (with 3 hands) and child. Inside the frame were offerings from people who donated items, such as watches, rings and necklaces for health and wellbeing of themselves or family members. Around the outside edge of the monastery walls are the monk's accommodations. Outside the monastery but with an entrance within the walls, is another museum and shop. This one displays all sorts of equipment used over time, old sewing machines, weaving looms, TVs, radios, telephones and a very old telephony switchboard. They also do olive oil and wine tasting, which can be purchased in the shop. Although there is a wheelchair entrance to enter the monastery, movement inside the monastery walls and gardens would be limited. There is ample free parking outside the monastery and there are public toilets (not the best) in the carpark, and although there is a disabled toilet, you would not get a wheelchair through the outer door.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled along a picturesque hiking trail, Monastery Katholiko offers an enchanting experience for nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike. The journey to the monastery includes notable landmarks such as Arkoudospilio Cave and Avlaki Gorge, with the final destination being the stunning Katholiko Bay. Visitors can expect turquoise waters and breathtaking views. The monastery itself boasts a modest entrance fee that contributes to its upkeep, making it a worthwhile stop for hikers seeking both adventure and cultural exploration.
Highly recommend doing this hike for one of your mornings in Crete. We arrived around 8 am and there were no crowds, but as we were leaving at 10, there was a crowd forming at the monastery at the start of the trek. Cover your legs (no shorts) when in the monasteries. Bring lots of water since the hike is steep and there isn’t a lot of shade. The ruins are very cool, they aren’t huge but they are impressive considering how long ago they were built. We paid no entrance fee but other reviews mention one. Keep an eye out for goats!
Olivia C — Google review
Lovely ruins with some fantastic photos opps. From the car park the walk isn't too bad. But pretty steep back. The walk to stavros however is pretty tough and not for the faint hearted.
Gary F — Google review
Great experience! The hike is manageable and suitable even for those with little hiking experience. Just make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen, water, and a hat, as it can get quite sunny. The destination itself is an amazing historical site and absolutely worth the visit.
Daki D — Google review
You need to be ready for a decent hike but the views and the ruins with the cave along the way make it a must see if you have ime in Crete. We had a nice wine tasting at the holy Trinity monestary which is on the way from Chania and worth a look too.
Philip W — Google review
The monastery ruins were nice, though smaller than I expected. Note that the hike to Katholiko Bay is open, but swimming is prohibited. Entrance fee was 2.50 euros per person, cash only.
Lynette B — Google review
Absolutely stunning walk from the Gouverneto Monastery car park. Do take some precautions. The first part of the trail is really easy and well packed, but it does get a bit uneven and some of the rocks are worn enough to have become a bit slippy. Definitely bring a few bottles of water. Fantastic views of the surrounding hills and sea the further you descend. There's a bit of scrambling from the monastery to Katholiko Bay further down the trail. Bit of cardio on the way back up. All in all a couple of hours well spent.
Stuart — Google review
Very beautiful place took two hrs to go down and up but its worth it

Absolutely a must see place and also continue to beach. Probably this is my favorite place in Crete. Not sure why but there are several things that I didnt find anywhere in Crete: less people althought I was in August and all mountain roads are crowded, the entire trip full of interesting caves or monasteries, the older one 1000 years old, at the end of the road the perfect place to swim or make high jumps from clifs, again no tourists. I can define this to be a perfect place in Crete.

Nestled within a captivating cave, the Church Panagia Arkoudiotissa offers a unique and serene retreat for hikers exploring the nearby ruins of Monastery Katholiko. This charming chapel is set in an expansive, natural cavern that remains largely untouched, providing a cool respite on warm days. To reach this hidden gem, visitors can stroll through the grounds of the larger monastery and follow a scenic path that descends towards the church.
Amazing cave. There is a small hidden room that is the church. The hike there isn't bad but there is no shade. My two children had no issues hiking there to play around.
P.S. F — Google review
A great adventure to find up country back roads, a monastery (no shorts or should on show) walk past you'll find a trail going all the way to the sea, halfway there you'll find a small chapel in the rock & a large cave with what looks like a bath built into the rock with steps & what legend says is a giant turned to stone. Don't bang your head like me, easily done.

(Translated by Google) The church is located in a cave. The place is quite original because the cave is large and almost undeveloped. You have to pass through the park of the large monastery, so do not hesitate to open the door to the large enclosure even outside opening hours 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. You then have to go down for about ten minutes on the path to the left of the war memorial.

Nestled in Chania, the Greek National Football Team Museum stands out as a remarkable tribute to Greece's football legacy. This small yet captivating museum is dedicated exclusively to the national team and its storied history, particularly highlighting their unforgettable Euro 2004 victory. Visitors can explore an impressive array of memorabilia, including jerseys worn by players during pivotal matches and a replica of the coveted European Championship trophy.
Small museum, but packed with history. Signed shirts from incredible football players make it a must-visit for any fan. One of the best experiences we had in Chania. A big thank you to the owner for sharing stories from his amazing journey through the many matches he attended. And a special mention to all the signed Benfica shirts—from every Greek player who played for the club. Truly unforgettable!

Such a great place to visit while in Chania! The entrance is free but there’s so much to see for football fans. They have every national kit possible, the guy talked with us about everything they have and was such a sweetheart. He even charged our phone while there 🫶🏻 I wish we asked for his name. We are very very thankful! He promised they’ll have more souvenirs next year, hopefully we’ll visit again

It was incredibly interesting – as a football fan I was hooked for a long time. And what a wonderful owner! His passion and dedication to his favorite business are simply top notch. He is very open and gladly shows and explains football history, with jerseys from matches and many other unique items. A must-visit for all football fans!

An incredible museum for all, even if you are not Greek, and even if you are not a football fan. The collection of (signed and/or match worn) memorabilia here is truly remarkable. Mr. Flekkas does a superb job at making every visitor feel welcome and also sharing his unique stories and experiences. I highly recommend this museum to all visitors to Crete!

A wonderful place for football fans. It's packed with souvenirs and memorabilia from various events, not only from Greece but also from other countries. It has original signed jerseys from all eras, also. Special mention: the owner. He's a lovely person who's always willing to talk about football and share experiences. 100% recommended⚽️

Old Bastard, a rare establishment on the island of Crete, offers delectable smoked brisket among its menu options. The ribs served here are regarded as some of the finest on the island and are highly sought after by patrons. Additionally, their sides complement the main dishes well and the service provided is both amicable and helpful. While it was difficult to gauge due to low occupancy during my visit, it is safe to say that this place possesses a cozy ambiance.
Really nice quality food. We weren't sure what to go for but the owner suggested the Beef Cheeks would be good for sharing. It was super tasty! The sub roll was crispy and perfectly toasted. Beef was very tender and melt in the mouth. Rosemary and salted potatoes/fries were an added bonus! Would recommend if you want a quick bite to eat or a spot of lunch.

Good joint! The Menu is breif but efficient! Food quality is good and products are fresh. The place is managed by an attentive and professional person, he speaks perfect English and is very helpful and friendly! We ordered brisket and tuna subs that were very tasty and cooked to the exact point needed. Prices are a bit on the expensive side, but worth it!
Dilak — Google review
One the few, if not the only place on Crete, where you can order smoked brisket. The ribs here were among the best I’ve had on Crete (and I order them whenever they available in any restaurant). The sides were nice too and the service friendly but the place at the time we visited was not crowded so I cannot really tell. The reason for the 4 star and not 5 star review was the price of the brisket, I expected more for the 17€ for 150grams of meat.

+ Great service. Big portions. Tasty mac and cheese. Good music. Nice place for people spotting in the evening. - The cubano sandwich needed some more seasoning and better meat, needed some more surface.

Fantastic quality and choice of canteen style food. The owner, George, and his employees are all fantastic. Refreshingly you won't find pizza or gyros on the menu, but instead items such as philly cheesesteaks with filet mignon, reubens with housemade kraut and sauce, varied unique burgers and incredible salads. Finally a restaurant in Chania that has food such as this.
Charles T — Google review
The food! WOW! Best burger I have ever eaten - honestly! We also had the Bahn Mi - insanely delicious and fresh! Also enjoyed mac and cheese - loved by our youngest. Burgers and sandwiches come with the most perfectly cooked fried potatoes. Crazy large portions!! We also tried some craft beer, ice cream, guacamole, chorizo dip and homemade tortilla chips. All made with fresh local ingredients and so flavorful! Professional and friendly service! Seating can be indoors or on the steps outside. We loved it as we have a toddler in our family of five and she could watch the horse carriages go by and wave to the passengers. Perfect! Best meal we have had in Chania in the last two weeks! We will be back! (We tucked in so the pictures are after we filled up. Sorry.)

This is one of the best spots on all of Chania! Amazing food, great prices, and fantastic beer on tap. The staff is nice and helpful as well! This is a MUST VISIT if you come here. While you’re enjoying your food stop at Medusa Tattoo Studio right upstairs and meet the owner George for one of a kind and highest quality ink. Both the food and the ink are worth coming to Chania for!

What an enormous disappointment!I've just returned to georgeoupoli, after a 2 hour round trip to visit the old bastards after reading all the great reviews.i arrived and all was good, looks a nice clean place, very tidy inside and nice furniture outside,I was with my girlfriend,we ordered a 2 meat platter to share, brisket, pulled pork, coleslaw and mac and cheese,2 cans pop and a water, came to€22.50. We waited 15 minutes and then they let us know the food was ready,I took it outside to eat,the pulled pork was nice, but stone cold, the brisket was very fatty and cold, the mac had a skin on it,cold again and the slaw was chopped cabbage with no dressing or sauce,i should have gone in to complain,I was so disappointed,I left most of the food and left.very disappointed,i wouldn't bother going here if this is the usual standard of food.very disappointed.

Nestled just a short 10-minute drive from Stavros Beach, Zorbas Taverna is a charming traditional Greek restaurant that captures the essence of local dining. The open-air setting, adorned with lush vines, creates an inviting atmosphere where you can truly immerse yourself in the culture. It's no surprise to see many locals enjoying their meals here, which speaks volumes about the quality of food on offer.
Just what you want from a Greek taverna, unhurried service and delicious food. Eaten here many times over the years and never been disappointed. The rabbit stifado is excellent.

Such a beautiful spot! A warm, family-owned tavern with a welcoming atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly, service was quick, and the food was excellent—clearly a favorite among locals dining alongside us! We enjoyed our meal on a stunning patio just 200 meters from the beach. Absolutely perfect!

A quiet place where you can enjoy traditional greek food. I was there at lunch time so the place was not crowded at all. The portions are generous and the prices are accessible. It's yet another authentic tavern in Greece. Beware that if you go at lunch time the grilled options on the menu are not avaliable, you can order them only in the evening. I personally recommend the eggplant salad and the traditional kalitsounia with cheese.
Delia M — Google review
Proper authentic taverna. Go and eat where the locals eat. Yes the food is not as glamorous as the other restaurants buts it's made with love and is really delicious. The ladies running the show were lovely and spoke great English. The prices were very very cheap vs other restaurants in stavros. Some plates /drinks were 50% compared to other places. 2 euro for a large glass of wine and 3.5 a large mythos. A bargain in my book! It won't be everyone's favourite restaurant due to its more rustic charm. But it was ours!
Gary F — Google review
A great beach Taverna. Good food, friendly staff and prices half that of other places at this beach. Do yourself a favor and walk a little further to Zorba's. You'll be glad you did. Be sure to check out the old photos from the movie inside.
