Water Country Water Park is the ultimate destination for summer fun in New England. Spanning 26 acres, this expansive park offers a wide range of attractions suitable for visitors of all ages. From thrilling water slides to a relaxing lazy river and toddler-friendly pools, there's something for everyone. Located near downtown Portsmouth, it's a must-visit during the summer months. The park also features themed pools, an adventure river, dining options, and plenty of slides to keep the whole family entertained.
We had a blast spending the day here — definitely one of the best water parks in New England! The place was busy but well-managed, and the staff kept everything moving smoothly. We visited on a weekend, waited less than 10 minutes to get in, and found plenty to do all day long. The park is clean, the water slides are exciting, and there are areas for both thrill seekers and families. Also loved the shaded areas where we could take breaks and chill. Plenty of food options and spots to relax between rides too. Tip: arrive early to grab a good spot and bring your own towels, snacks, and flip-flops. Already planning our next trip back! 📍Portsmouth-themed decor added a nice local touch. 📸 (Check out the photos for a peek at our day!)

Had a great time, staff was very friendly. Went on a Monday so the lines was nice and short! Weekdays are a bit cheaper and booking tickets online also makes it a bit cheaper and on the parking too. Definitely recommend 100%!
Emiliana V — Google review
I visited this water park twice, and each experience was quite different. The first time was on a sunny day, and while the weather was perfect, the long lines—especially for one of the main slides—made it hard to enjoy everything. We ended up missing out on several attractions because of the wait times. The second visit was on a cloudy day, and it turned out to be ideal. With fewer people around, we were able to try every slide without long waits, and the experience was much more enjoyable. One highlight was the long ring-shaped pool—it’s relaxing and beautifully designed, perfect for floating and unwinding. Overall, I’d recommend going on a less crowded day to make the most of everything the park has to offer.
Dr. P — Google review
It was raining till 3 but the water was warm. We toughed it out. No lines and a lot of camps were there. Three slides not open. But I had a good time with my daughter and wife.
Gus B — Google review
First and foremost, the prices for this place are out of hand for this small of a place. I understand it’s a water park, but for the admission, parking, lockers, easily adds up. Half of the food/drink places weren’t even open on a busy July Saturday. So the one place that was, was busy beyond comprehension. There is a decent amount of slides, and the lines for them are quite long all day. Some of the lines moved quick, and others did not. The park is showing its age and the water was fairly dirty all over the park. For “New England’s largest wave pool” there was literally no waves. I could jump in a pool and it would create a wave larger than the ones in the so called wave pool. The line for the Lazy River was insanely long because for some strange reason, everyone is required to be in a tube. Overall, it’s a decent day out for a summer fun day, but expect to pay $50/pp & another $30 to park. You can bring your own food and drink which is nice, but locker rentals are another $20+ for your bag.
Alexa K — Google review
The rides are fun and safe, except for the Dr. Von Dark. Avoid that one. You can rent lockers for personal items but parking isn’t far from the entrance and re-entry is allowed. You can bring your own food, unlike most amusement parks so I think that is awesome. So if you pack your cooler properly and leave it in the car until you eat, you can do that. A lot of people also leave their stuff at the picnic tables which is free. I don’t think it’s very kind though because it hogs people that are trying to sit down and eat and then go back to rides, but to each their own. The jumbo locker won’t hold a cooler and it’s $25. Parking is also $25-$30. There are food and drinks throughout if you don’t wish to bring your own food. Every so often the Water Country website has deals and sometimes you’ll find it on Groupon too. I took five children, and they all had a great time. I went on rides myself and I enjoyed it too. I highly recommend.
Artemis T — Google review
I hated how they upped the prices for July 4tj and it was not even worth it. I paid $287 for a regular cabana & on a normal day it’s $129. How crazy is that? Food is expensive and not even good to say the least. Poole are dirty and they don’t even say anything when people are wearing borderline lingerie in a family park. I paid $300 in tickets — why am I seeing someone in a see-through thong in a KIDS POOL? and the life guards & workers said nothing lol.
Leah T — Google review
We Love this place, love the slides and life guards. Food price not bad.

Live music venue
The Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH is a historic landmark built in 1878 and one of the oldest continuously operating concert halls in the United States. It has a rich history of hosting vaudeville acts and renowned figures like Mark Twain and Wynton Marsalis. Today, it serves as a cultural hub for live concerts, theater performances, musicals, opera simulcasts, vintage movies, and art film screenings.
First time attending a show at this beautiful venue. Such an intimate setting! We saw a band and I think most seats are good because you can hear the music from anywhere, however if it was a play there are some partially obstructed view seats. Not sure about all the seats in the balcony as we were on the lower level. All the volunteers were really nice & very helpful. I felt like I was in the Grotto when I went to the ladies room! Was not expecting a fun bathroom!

I love this theatre. It's always fun being in Portsmouth. Great shops and restaurants in walking distance of the theatre, and the theatre itself is beautiful and well run. My only complaint are the old theatre seats. They get very uncomfortable after a short while.
Allan K — Google review
Ive been an on and off Volunteer of The Music Hall since 1986...over the years have seen some amazing performances: Tony Bennett, Pearl Bailey, Bobby McFerrin, Broadway shows such as White Christmas, ELF, Beauty and The Beast, also Portsmouth NH Symphony, Writers on the Stage the list goes on and on....I've seen the Music Hall transform with new seats, Proscenium, Chandelier, new paint and the uncovering of Vintage trompe l'oeil fresccoes, the beautiful Lobby and bathrooms. The Music Hall, in my opinion, is the CENTER of all that makes Portsmouth HOME. When you Volunteer, you have a chance to be part of history, but get to see world- class performances FOR FREE!

An historic, beautiful theatre. Am amazing list of a wide variety of shows. Worth going just to see the theatre. Shows are usually top notch.

We had a great time at this venue. The staff was friendly and helpful and the vibe was perfect. The number of obstructed view seats at the back of the orchestra section was tough for some people, but it nobody seemed unhappy. I would definitely go to another show here.

Pastry shop
La Maison Navarre is a Parisian-style cafe and pastry shop in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Run by a French couple, it offers an authentic experience with delicious crepes, waffles, croissant breakfast sandwiches, salads, and macarons in unique flavors. The cafe has two levels - the upper level with a separate brunch menu and wine service while the lower level offers pastries and a variety of menu items. The pastries are not only visually appealing but also taste amazing.
The lavender pastry was so good, definitely one of my favorites. It’s sweet, but not overload that’s going to make you stop eating. The macaroons were great too, coffee flavor was absolute the best with the blueberry, and earl grey. The to go boxes also have a great presentation, the place inside is small but comfy, they have a wine bar too with tables, and outside seating. The coffee didn’t have a great taste, but I guess I didn’t specify if they have milk options.

I can't begin to share how much I love their build your own Sammie. I have never been disappointed and switch it up every time I visit, this AM - croissant, 2 scrambled & gruyere. Gruyere is a must! They always cook the eggs lightly so they are delicate & soft. Can't beat it. Also got a Classique Crepe, good till the last bite also
Denise F — Google review
My cappuccino and my husband’s latte were great! My husband ordered a croissant: it was good, but we can make something just as good or even better at home, so it didn’t really surprise us. I ordered the Croque Madame, which definitely wasn’t a real croque more like a cheap imitation I’ve had several Croque Madames in NYC and other places, and they’re always creamy, cheesy and flavorful. This one, though, was really dry, the bread was badly burnt, the egg had no salt or black pepper, there was no creaminess, the ham was thin and I could barely taste the cheese… I was disappointed Macarons: 9/10 I’m not sure I’d go back, but maybe I’d give it a second chance
Isabela P — Google review
Excellent excellent excellent. The oatmilk cappuccino has a great toasty flavor, and has been reliably good on multiple visits. The pastries are terrific -- I've gotten the almond croissant and the chocolate twist, both of which were heavenly. Awesome crispy and flaky crust, with a nice chewiness on the inside. Staff is friendly (and from what I can tell, very authentically French). The cafe part has plenty of seating and feels very open and inviting. We've made it a point to visit each time we come to Portsmouth!

We ate here for restaurant week. The desserts were delicious but unfortunately the actual food was unremarkable. I would stick to pastries and desserts here and stay away from the entrees. We tried eating here a second time and tried the crepes. They were delicious and I highly recommend them.

Lovely place in Portsmouth market square. Delectable lemon tart. These tarts can be well tarty but this one was just right. These tarts tiramisu gelato was an eye opener. Sometimes an eatable is named like a suggestion- not this one. Just what the name suggests.
Sanjiv T — Google review
Loved this place! Best pastries in town. Nice place to have a coffee and eat a snack or grab a couple of gourmet items to take home.
C. B — Google review
Do you make desserts just to look good? Do you plan to make them tasty??? Jesus, $50 for 6 macarons and 3 desserts. Macarons are crunchy and dry, so little of filling - 5/10. I thought just the macarons aren’t your “thing” in the store. But the desserts….. are sour and taste of everything just aren’t good…. SO DISAPPOINTED!!! Don’t take pineapple tart, it’s the worst one. If you’re looking just to make pictures of “beautiful dessert” you can buy, but if you’re looking to eat something tasty, I would avoid this place.

Pizza restaurant
Restaurant
Flatbread Company in Portsmouth, located in the historic district, is a popular spot known for its wood-fired pizzas made with organic ingredients and free-range meats. The restaurant offers a New England experience with delicious flatbread pizzas created using locally sourced toppings. Customers can watch their pizzas being baked in traditional clay ovens right in front of them. Despite experiencing some delays due to high customer volume, visitors appreciate the cozy atmosphere and helpful staff at this affordable eatery.
We are from New York and we know good pizza, so it’s hard to get a five star rating unless it’s really good. This is really good! My son Said this was the best pizza he has had in his entire life. That’s almost 9 years of experience with pizza ;) We were wandering through Portsmouth and we happened to come upon this place and I was immediately intrigued as soon as I saw the organic wheat flour. I inquired a little further and they use really good quality ingredients and you can tell because the final product is amazing! The staff is really enthusiastic and well informed, and they care about what they do which is really nice to see. I also learned that they have other locations, which we will probably be trying as we travel through New England.

One of the best pizza places in Portsmouth, NH! Highly recommended! You should always ask for rotating craft beer options! Most of the ingredients were organic and very fresh!

We arrived around 1 p.m., and everything went smoothly! We decided to try the 12” gluten-free pizza with red sauce, and it was delicious! The food came out hot and fresh, just like we hoped. The restaurant had a nice, clean vibe, and the service was really good too. Plus, the prices were pretty reasonable, especially considering our dietary needs. It’s great to find a place with gluten-free dough that actually tastes like traditional pizza!
Lili F — Google review
We loved this place! The pizzas (including vegan options!) were delicious. The salad was over-the-top good. And so was the strawberry rhubarb crumble! Every bite we ate was better than the last. Our server was *so nice* too. Such a wonderful way to kick off a long weekend.

Flatbread Company in Portsmouth, NH is one of those rare gems that combines artisan craftsmanship with a welcoming, casual atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing meal with friends or family. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by the inviting aroma of wood-fired ovens, where every pizza is handmade with fresh, organic ingredients baked to perfection. The thin crust has a delightful crispness yet remains tender, making each bite satisfying without being heavy. My favorite pizza there was the Maple Fennel Sausage – the blend of sweet and savory flavors was fantastic and showcased the kitchen’s creativity. Service was attentive and friendly, making the experience feel personalized. The menu caters to various tastes, including gluten-free options, which are prepared with care to avoid cross-contamination. The overall vibe is vibrant but cozy, enhanced by the open kitchen where you can watch the skilled pizzaiolos work their magic. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of ingredients and the generous portion sizes. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Portsmouth, Flatbread Company is a must-visit for pizza lovers seeking something authentic, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to try more from their unique menu. Highly recommended for a truly memorable dining experience in Portsmouth.

We had such a fantastic experience! The pizzas were out of this world — oven-made, super fresh, and bursting with flavor. You can really taste the quality of the organic ingredients in every bite. The service was also excellent — friendly, fast, and very welcoming. It’s clear the staff care about making your visit enjoyable. The whole place has a great, cozy vibe that’s perfect for a relaxed meal. We will definitely be coming back soon!

Seafood restaurant
Jumpin' Jay's Fish Café is a bustling and popular spot known for its refined seafood dishes with creative sauces. The restaurant, located in Portsmouth, NH, has been serving regional classics and catch-of-the-day variations since 2000. It's recognized for its award-winning crab cakes and raw bar. The quality of the fare is top-notch, with fish sourced daily from local fishermen as well as exotic catches from places like New Zealand and Ecuador.
First time here even though we've walked past this restaurant a dozen times. We went here on a Tuesday night for "shuck-a-buck" to celebrate a birthday, but stayed for the amazing food and service! We eat out quite a bit and it usually takes a lot to impress us, but this place nailed it all from the well balanced dishes, spot on drinks, and of course, the awesome service from the entire crew. The servers were all very friendly, courteous, and attentive to our needs even before we asked for it. These guys make eating out a joy again!

Food 10/10 - if you’re a seafood person, this is the place to go. I got the clam chowder and the scallops and would redo it again. The portion sizes are quite large that I had to take some things home. The bread starter with the garlic confit was amazing and the dessert to finish off dinner was superb. Supposedly the chef is also known to be a baker so I would highly suggest saving room for a dessert if you can. Ambience - this place is actually quite small so if you’re trying to go there with a big group try to make a reservation ahead of time but being a party of one it was very easy for me to find a spot at the bar. The place is a little loud so if you’re looking for a quiet place to eat, this is not your place. It’s just what comes with a restaurant that’s busy and has good food. The service was great. People were very welcoming and very gracious and were able to give great recommendations so if you don’t know what you want ask the staff. For parking, I can’t speak to that because I only walked, but there is street parking outside and I’m sure other parking area is around.

Amazing atmosphere in a beautiful space. The focus is fresh seafood and they didn’t disappoint. Textbook dishes, the lobster bisque is out of this world! The fresh fish selection is amazing. The wine list is superior and rivals restaurants from around the world.

Great restaurant! First thing I noticed is the happiness of the employees o thing but smiles. Everyone working helped each other and they seemed to be a team who enjoys working with each other because of that our service was impeccable. From drinks to the food everything was delicious. We started with fried calamari cooked perfectly, we had warm rolls served with soft butter ,roasted garlic and olives. We ordered the salmon and monk fish both cooked with so much flavor and the presentation was beautiful. Then for dessert we ordered the banana cake new on the menu I’m not a sweet eater but this was perfect not too sweet…..definitely everyone should visit this restaurant.

I came here during restaurant week and got their prix fix menu. Wonderful food. Would definitely come back again if I ever visit Portsmouth again. Very fresh bread rolls and butter, nice that it came with garlic. All very fresh, high quality ingredients. Nice atmosphere. Good, attentive service.

Aug 9 2025 - Was greeted warmly and taken to our table immediately. (Reservations)! Our server was outstanding. He told us about a computer glitch they were having and apologized ahead of time. I don't think we noticed, as the staff covered everything professionally. We started with the Lobster Bisque and Crispy Lobster egg rolls. The bisque was good, although the lobster was a bit chewy. Husband said the egg rolls were fine. I ordered one of the catch of the day items, monkfish. It came with whipped potatoes and the seasonal veggies. The fish was cooked beautifully, as was the rest of the dish. My husband had the Maine scallops. He also said they were cooked nicely. Our only issue was that all the food was so bland. No special sauces or seasonings. I don't like my food very spicy and I never add salt to anything...but tonight I asked for salt to add to this dish. It helped a tiny bit, but wasn't what it needed. For me to think something is bland is very unusual. Being tourist season in town, the place was quite busy and loud. Despite that, the servers were really on the ball.

Nestled in the heart of historic downtown Portsmouth, Nichinan is a contemporary Japanese restaurant that has quickly become a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts. With its elegant ambiance adorned with tasteful artwork, Nichinan offers an inviting atmosphere perfect for special occasions or casual dining alike. The menu features a delightful array of dishes, including gluten-free options, making it accessible to all diners. During my recent visit to celebrate a birthday, I was treated to exceptional service that truly enhanced the experience.
I came here for date night and left with a new favorite restaurant! I don't think I've seen okonomiyaki anywhere outside of Japan and yet here it was- along with a ton of other very unique, very tasty menu items. We wanted to order one of everything, it was hard to choose! Our favorites were the sashimi, the sake roll, and the okonomiyaki. The steamed buns and tonkatsu were also really good, I like that we could get a bunch of small plates to share. Definitely get dessert- it was incredible! The cocktails were also top notch. The service was excellent and prompt, and overall the vibes of the place were really nice, it was cozy but still elegant, I will definitely be back!

Phenomenal service! We made a reservation online a noted a fish allergy at our table. Our host and server both took the time to clarify the nature and severity of the allergy and were understanding. Our server Sydney was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was fantastic. Generous portion sizes for the share plates and everything was delicious. I would come back to New Hampshire just for this restaurant.

This is the best Japanese food I have ever had. All of the food came out hot and perfectly garnished and tasted amazing!! I highly recommend the Miso Eggplant, Spicy Crab Fried Rice, and Karaage! All of the meat was perfectly cooked and basically melts in your mouth. Even though the items are a bit pricey, they are more than worth it! The staff here is incredible as well! They are prompt, helpful, and courteous. Our waiter did excellent in recommending the best dishes on the menu! Even though it is attached to the hotel, this restaurant is open to anyone. It's very beautiful and organized on the inside and was an extremely pleasant atmosphere for a slow meal.

I went with two friends and we really enjoyed our full experience at Nichinan. This is a great place to share different plates. It was hard to choose what to order because everything on the food and drink menu is fun and enticing. Everything we tried was delicious! The service was perfect. There was never an empty cup, we had everything we needed, our server knew each dish really well and was excited to share about the chef's menu. The atmosphere is just about the best in town. Clean, well designed and gorgeous dining area. The same goes for the bathroom and waiting area. Looking forward to going back!

We have been dying to try Nichinan for months after seeing their new signage on a walk around Portsmouth. What better time to visit than my birthday! The restaurant has a very classy atmosphere and tasteful artwork. Our reservation at 6 p.m. was one of the best service experiences we have had. We were gifted a small starter of Akami at the beginning for my birthday. Very appreciated and thoughtful. The drink selection focuses on Japanese ingredients; the Lotus Eater was one of my favorites. We split a variety of dishes which, filled us up by the end of the night. Our favorite was the Karaage; crispy, juicy, and blended well with the added extras. The sushi options were fresh and presented beautifully. Be sure to add the caviar to your sushi orders. Overall, wonderful experience, and I am happy I chose to visit during my birthday.

We had a very mediocre experience. Our waiter was somewhat off putting. He didn't smile, spoke softly, and dropped the food and quickly stepped away. The sushi was bland and it had skimpy portions of fish. However, the sweet potato bun was very good.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Nichinan Sushi in Portsmouth, NH, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations in more ways than one. Tucked away in a cozy spot, this little gem offers an unforgettable experience with its small, sharable plates, craft cocktails, and delightful sushi creations. Let's start with the food. The attention to detail on the dishes presented were simply outstanding. The shrimp tempura was a true highlight of my meal, boasting a perfectly crisp exterior while maintaining a juicy and tender interior. Each bite was a burst of flavor, leaving me longing for more. The pork belly was another star on the menu, with its melt-in-your-mouth texture and a rich, savory taste that left a lasting impression. I have nothing but praise for the attentive staff at Nichinan. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with genuine warmth and hospitality. The waitstaff was knowledgeable about the menu and graciously offered suggestions to enhance our dining experience. They were prompt in their service, ensuring that our glasses were never empty and our needs were met with a smile. The atmosphere at Nichinan was simply delightful. The cozy ambiance, coupled with tastefully designed décor, created a soothing and inviting space. The soft lighting and comfortable seating arrangements added to the intimate setting, making it perfect for both a romantic date night or a relaxed gathering with friends. The pleasant background music further enhanced the overall atmosphere, allowing for easy conversation and enjoyment of the culinary journey. One of the aspects that truly stood out for me was the attention to detail in presentation. Each dish was artfully arranged, showcasing the chef's skill and creativity. The sushi rolls were not only delicious but also visually appealing, making it a feast for both the taste buds and the eyes. Overall, I highly recommend Nichinan to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience in Portsmouth, NH. The exceptional food, impeccable service, and inviting atmosphere make it a standout choice for sushi enthusiasts and those looking to explore a fusion of flavors. Don't miss the chance to indulge in their shrimp tempura and pork belly delights. Nichinan Sushi is undoubtedly a hidden culinary gem that deserves recognition.

Breakfast restaurant
"The Goods" is a charming spot offering light eats, baked goods, and espresso drinks. It also features local artisans' wares for sale. Located within walking distance of a lovely inn in Kittery, Maine, it's a hidden gem with an inviting atmosphere and delicious food. The menu includes options like breakfast sandwiches on gluten-free bagels, Mediterranean omelettes, whole wheat toast, home fries, and honey turmeric lattes.
I love travelling and finding my go to place for the few days I’m in town. The Goods is an amazing bistro/cafe/local goods one stop shop! I wish I was in Portsmouth for weeks bc I was Devastated I could not try the whole menu. What did I eat? The Havana and the Calli wrap and a Pumpkin bagel. What made this place my go to… THE GLUTEN AND DAIRY FREE OPTIONS! The staff were so knowledgeable and were able to make whatever I fancied with GF wraps or bagels (that actually hold the fillings and are mighty tasty) and once home, it reheated fantastically. Reasonably priced, centralized location, and warm and inviting staff. Will make a trip back X

The egg sandwich is delicious, but I regret “making it a meal” and adding the side of “home fries” for $3 each. It’s more like a spoon of mushed potato and the portion is tiny on this to-go container. Not worth the extra cost. For $6 I’d rather have another egg sandwich.
Juliana S — Google review
I stopped by after a chiropractic appointment since the gals at the desk had recommended their breakfast sandwich (so my first error was not going with their rec). I ended up asking the cashier what he recommends, and ended up getting the Cali Wrap. I tried to get settled to do some work, but disappointingly they don't have wifi available. He seemed annoyed that I would ask. When my wrap came out, I took a bite and felt like there wasn't avocado in it. I mentioned this and he said, no he watched the cook put the avocado in it. For a wrap with "Cali" in the name, I'd expect the avocado to be more evident. Eventually I did find it towards the bottom of the wrap. Overall, I felt it also lacked seasoning/flavor and will not be getting it again. The service also makes me hesitant to come back, but I feel maybe the breakfast sandwich deserves a chance since my chiropractor office recommended it.

Stopped in for lunch on a road trip to Maine after reading great reviews about the food. I ordered the Buddha bowl expecting a decent sized salad bowl as the price was $12.50 but received what may be the smallest entree portion I’ve ever seen served at a restaurant. The food was fine but the ingredients cost must have been less than $3 and the whole meal honestly felt like a rip off. On top of that the service was incredibly slow and we waited over 15 minutes in a near empty cafe for our food. Cute cafe but definitely not worth the extreme over pricing
Jane M — Google review
The sandwiches at this place are pretty good, and if you just order a sandwich or wrap, the prices aren’t too bad. Everything else on the menu is priced fairly high for the portions you get. The coffee bar is also expensive, and the coffee was average. There are a few tables you can eat at and a coffee bar along the side. There’s a parking lot across from the shop, which always has spots as long as there isn’t an event in town. The person working was not very friendly, but wasn’t rude either. If you’re walking by and in the mood for a quick sandwich, it’s fine. Overall, 3 stars.

Great breakfast sandwich and coffee. Reasonable prices and good service! I overheard that they have gluten free options for some sandwiches which is great. I was here around 12/12:30 and there was only one girl taking orders and making all the drinks but she was crushing it, I don’t know if I could handle the constant rush that well! I wish I’d gotten her name but shoutout to her and everyone working this morning!!

Love how many gluten free options there are! Great food, outdoor seating, and cold brew was great! They have gluten free wraps and bagels!

I will absolutely never step foot in this cafe again. I ordered an iced latte with 2 flavors which was $7 and when I was given an iced coffee versus the latte I ordered, I politely told the man making the coffee that I had ordered an iced latte. Rather than using good customer service skills, he angrily told me that the cashier misheard me after checking with her, and then told me I’d have to pay for an iced latte if I wanted one. I asked why I would have to pay another $7 when it was just a mistake and he scolded me saying ‘you can’t have 2 coffees for $7!!’ So I just said okay, I will just take the one I have and never come back here, thanks. As I added milk to my coffee, I heard him walking into the kitchen yelling that ‘this woman is mad about not getting 2 coffees for $7.’ Like bro, you’re the one who’s mad here, and you definitely have some anger issues. He should absolutely not be working in customer service. And either way, the coffee was not good 🤷‍♀️. So see you never Goods cafe ✌🏽

Fast food restaurant
Taco Bell is a fast-food establishment that offers Mexican-inspired dishes like tacos, quesadillas, and nachos. Customers can conveniently place their orders through the app for drive-thru pickup. While the staff and manager were commendable in their responsiveness to errors such as missing items and incorrect order fulfillment, it was revealed that the app itself may be at fault for not accurately conveying the details of each order.
I come here in the morning every few weeks. It’s not overly busy, which makes for a nice peaceful breakfast/brunch. The service is professional and friendly. The food is delicious as one would expect. Inside was pretty clean. I recommend. *Some reviews say the restaurant is dirty. I’m not seeing it. Window guy was in today cleaning the whole place too.

Taco Bell has some tasty options and the staff is pleasant, which definitely adds a nice touch to the experience. However, the restroom was dirty, which was a bit of a bummer.

Me and my boyfriend ordered from this location tonight and ended up being incredibly disappointed and disgusted. The rice in our food was completely hard, which tells me that the rice is VERY old and very poorly stored. Half of our order also wasn’t even in the bag and my boyfriend had to go back to get it, but when he got there the lobby was closed and they had everybody going through drive thru. I blame management for that because clearly they don’t have enough staff to take care of the workload that comes with a closing/night shift. But the night crew absolutely needs to get it together and make sure they completed the order before handing it off.

Understaffed as usual and slow but Meagan B. gets the job done with a Happy and Professional manner. Her positive energy drives the store and sets the example. My order though it took almost ten minutes in the drive through line at 12:15 PM today was hot, accurate, and had all the utensils and condiments requested. BRAVO Portsmouth Taco Bell and Thank you Meagan B.

absolutely love this taco bell! i need my fix every week or so & the staff (the night crew in particular) are always incredibly kind and sociable. i've had such positive interactions at the drive thru window with so many of these lovely people, it has become the highlight of my trip there. of course, the food is great as well! i've gotten my cheestiest nacho fry ever here so massive kudos to the legend who made that 👏

Edit: 9/29/2023: This location has improved some with time so stars increased from 1 to 3 - though they annoyingly leave all exterior lights off at night (including the drive thru menu). If it was only once I'd assume it was an accident but it's very consistent. And word of mouth opinion is that it's a way of discouraging customers from thinking they're open. ~~~~~~~ Terrible. If I could give it zero stars I would. The staff here clearly don't feel like they're accountable. Their customer service skills are dismissive and rude. The food served straight from the drive-thru is already cold. I ordered a few cravings boxes and they spread the orders randomly through the boxes and just shrugged and handed me an empty box and told me I can sort it myself. I ordered a crunchwrap Supreme, add jalapeños, and was unable to eat more than three bites before I peeled it open and found it was completely full of jalapeños. I counted and there were 46 slices, and I'd already eaten 3 bites completely full of them. I'm angry and disappointed. This place went downhill fast.** **Note: this order was placed online so there was no personal interaction between them and myself prior to them making the food. I did nothing to justify them intentionally ruining my food.
Robert B — Google review
Very bad experience at this location, I didn't receive what I order for my kid's. That was 2 order of burrito supreme and 1 chessy bean and rice burrito and what I received is 1 burrito supreme and 2 cheesy bean and rice burrito. My lost of money is $6.34 with added extra jalapeños and I had to buy some other food for my kid. My kid so upset he said why they did this to my order ?????? Keep focus on present customer order and don't talk to other colleagues during making orders this is how you can avoid this mistake and hope you don't ruin someone's dinner.

This park is dope. They bring really good rising acts that people should know about during their summer concert series. They also do a good production each summer with some mediocre cast but they try. They also hold an acting camp for the kiddos. I’d bring a blanket here & have a picnic or you can just stroll through the flower garden. Beautiful place for real. 10/10 I’m always back.

I absolutely love this place. I'm a PCA/CCMA and I bring a couple clients here to walk around and take in the beautiful gardens and water fountains. When ever the landscaper's are around we ask the history of the gardens (even though I remember...lol) my client's enjoy hearing it from them and interact with them. The workers love telling us about their hard work and they are very proud of what they have all have accomplished. As they should be. Absolute Beauty!!!

The Strawbery Banke Museum, situated on a 10-acre site, is an outdoor living-history museum that showcases numerous buildings, gardens, and crafts. Named after the first settlement on the Piscataqua River, it offers a glimpse into Portsmouth's evolution from a small town in 1623 to a bustling port city. The museum features various houses furnished and decorated according to different historical eras, while others are preserved to demonstrate their construction with cutaway displays and exhibits of tools and materials.

This is an excellent place to visit for history and culture in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The buildings are well preserved, and it’s really fun to walk around and visit all of the buildings and see the exhibits inside. It’s definitely a must see for the history of the city. The buildings are very old from the 1700s and 1800s, and some of the buildings feature period actors. There are employees at many buildings to answer your questions, and everyone was very friendly.

This place is really something special. I had an idea of what to expect from their website, but man it is so much more if you take the time to really absorb it all and learn about everything there. Such a wild and rich history in this area.

Great time! You can spend a couple of hours but we spent all day here! So many diverse aspects of historical events, people, the trials and tribulations of settlers and indigenous natives of this area, and more. Well worth the admission! And if you’re a Baby Boomer, don’t miss the 1940’s corner grocery store and its proprietor, nor the WW2 multiple displays and recordings of the sacrifices made, and the impact on Americans during that time; as well as the victory garden.

Amazing neighborhood preserved as it was from its first inception. Only one structure has been moved. Most buildings were homes and had multiple owners and modifications through the years. Beginning in early 1600 through the late 1950's families lived here together. Theuseum has done a fantastic job of preservation through time.

I visited the Strawberry Banke Museum with my sister and brother-in-law the other day and we were all completely amazed and thrilled with the quality of the historic buildings in the historic neighborhood. I visit a lot of historic sites and I have to say this is one of my favorites and I became a member so that we can go whenever we would like. It was truly like taking a step back into history and the knowledge that one can gain there is limitless. I am so thankful that people had the foresight to preserve this beautiful neighborhood for those of us to enjoy many years later! I had been planning on visiting the museum for years and I am so thankful I finally made it happen. I can’t encourage people enough to go visit if it has been in one’s plans. I can guarantee that you won’t leave disappointed and your life will be enriched from the experience. I can’t wait to go back again! It truly is a wonderful piece of history and a true gift to society!

Arrived at about 2:30, an hour and a half before they close. We were told immediately that we would have time to go through all the houses but that they would be closing up in a little over an hour. No problem. We were sent to a room with some other folks to wait for an orientation about the site and to get a map. Waited around for 10 min with no communication from staff and decided to just a grab a map and get started without the orientation because we had already been told we would need to hurry to see everything and felt that we were wasting time. Maybe that's when they would have mentioned that multiple houses were closed and you could not even walk through them? Feel like that's something u could mention when folks are buying tickets. The ones that were open were nice, and the gardens too, hence the 3 stars. Again, very little interaction with staff except when we were stopped by a worker inside one of the buildings and she demanded to see the tags proving we had paid to enter and would stop talking about the house whenever anyone entered so she could ask to see their tags if she couldn't spot them at a glance. VERY ODD. Maybe give out wristbands instead of tags if you want them on everyone's wrist? I would say the ticket price is steep for the amount of attention given to guest experience. Would not pay again or recommend to anyone.

Located in Portsmouth, the Seacoast Repertory Theatre is a non-profit, community-based professional performance company that offers a diverse range of plays, musicals, and films. The theater also provides special programs for kids and senior citizens. With an annual calendar of events, the theatre stages classic plays, contemporary dramas, and Broadway-quality productions throughout the year. In addition to performances, they offer classes, workshops, and camps for all age groups.
I had a great time but I was also astounded with what I experienced! Buying a 🎫 ticket online and picking it up at the box office was easy. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. I had a good seat 💺 and view of the stage. I attended "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" live performance. It was high energy and volume with live music 🎶. There was audience interaction with up to date responses but tossing food or toilet paper as well as using squirt guns was not allowed. I, along with other audience members, had our 🗣️ heads marked with a red "V" for "virgin". There was a costume contest before the show and the contestants were dressed as characters from "T R H P Show". A staff member came up and sat down next to me and wanted me to stay in my seat 🪑 because a cast member was going to run past me and jump onto the stage. I thought 💭 I was in trouble at first. The cast sometimes entered the audience, squirted us with squirt guns and threw candy 🍬🍭 into the audience. The staff threw glow in the dark rings into the audience as well which people wore on their heads. Most of the cast were either in their underwear 🩲 or skimpy outfits, along with some of the audience. Though one audience member had nearly less than that. I don't think 🤔 I will never forget this performance! I sat next to people who were dressed as characters from The R H P Show ". They were pleasant and got up and danced to "Time Warp ". The actors who played Dr. Frank N. Furter and Brad Majors towered in height over their fellow performers. The actor who played Rocky went past me and jumped to the stage! The theater 🎭 is small which creates an intimate atmosphere. I don't know where the dry ice steam came from. There is a bar that has a limited selection of alcoholic beverages and snacks which you can take inside the theater. Update: December 2024; The Nutcracker was entertaining! A modern flare with a up close view. Ballet 🩰, tap, swing, hoop dancing, juggling and cyr wheel! Music 🎵 incorporating swing, I think 🤔 ragtime, a little hip hop, Trans Siberian Orchestra and a few Christmas 🎄 classics were sung. I got to say "Hello" to the president of the theater. My only issue was that a few kids were kicking the seat 🪑 next to me. I recommend a visit and I want to attend another performance!

The first thing I did when I got home from watching the Wedding Singer performance this weekend was to buy tickets to an upcoming show next month. The theater is intimate, tastefully decorated, and well equipped for lights and sound. The cast were phenomenal. They performed so well and I couldn’t believe the stamina they all had to perform at that level for that long of a show. The actor that played Robbie was incredibly convincing in his role. You couldn’t help but to laugh when he wanted you to laugh, pout when he was sad, feel anger when he was angry, and swoon during his romantic gestures. What a fun show, can’t wait to see more!

I have seen a number of shows at the Seacoast Rep and they have been great. The most recent was last night seeing Cinderella. Delightful and intimate theater in the round! Company performing recent Broadway and West End plays and musicals! Super high end regional theater! Marvelous depth of casting! Parking plentiful but expensive. Lots of great bistros and stores nearby in the historic district. Saw them perform Dave Malloy’s Natasha & Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812. Not an easy play to pull off. My daughter had seen on Broadway and loved this presentation! Delightful!

We saw Hadestown (teen edition) here yesterday- first time at this theater. It was really great - the cast was so talented and the venue is fantastic. It’s a very small theater so there’s really not a bad seat in the house. Will definitely be back - drove 2 hours but going to catch a lot more shows here. Really impressed.

Just saw the music man here last night and I have to say it was one of the most spectacular theater experiences that I had my life. They have so many great productions coming up this year, this is a definite must check out if you’re in Portsmouth area!

The Rep is a lovely small theatre in downtown Portsmouth! Productions are reasonably priced and have Broadway quality. The performance of Frankenstein was mesmerizing and one of the best plays I have ever seen. The cast, lighting, and effects blew our minds. I suggest sitting directly before the stage to get the best views. The lobby is tastefully decorated and contains a small seating area and a concession stand. Drinks are a bit pricey, but snacks are reasonable. Downtown Portsmouth also has delicious restaurants to dine at after a show. We cannot wait to come back to see more unique shows.

Portsmouth Book & Bar is a charming establishment housed in a circa-1860 building that seamlessly combines the pleasures of reading with the comforts of a bar. The founders have lovingly curated a selection of used books and created an inviting space for book lovers to gather. In addition to offering hand-picked reads, the venue serves up delicious sandwiches, salads, and pastries alongside coffee, beer, and wine.
A hole in the wall feel to a large capacity coffee shop. Instantly as you walk in you hear the warm music and feel the ambiance of this cozy spot. Throughout the store are used and non used books at incredible prices, placed my genre so you can browse exactly what you like to read. Every time you turn a corner you find somthing new, another shelf, more books, another great place to sit down. But this isn't just a used book store, they are also a coffee shop... and a bar? After looking around for 20 minutes I went to the counter to buy my books and order a chai latte, then sat down at a table(or couch!) To read my new books and relax. The staff were super friendly and very communicative so I knew exactly what I was ordering was what I wanted (because it's never fun going to a new place and sitting down to taste what you accidentally ordered). Have yet to try the bar, but I cannot wait to go again! I haven't had a coffee shop in about a year so I think this may be my new favorite!

Love, love, love the Book and Bar and their new menu! The food and drinks are delicious! I got the BLT on wheat bread with lemon aioli, and a giant chocolate chip cookie! A wonderful place to hang out, have a wide variety of food and desserts and drinks, in a relaxed atmosphere, right in downtown Portsmouth.

Great concept. It's like a library where you get to drink tea, coffee, or alcohol, and have some snacks. We stopped by just for a couple coffees, which were quite well done. The book selection was a bit underwhelming. A lot of the stuff was a bit too left-of-center for my taste, but most of the patrons seemed to be enjoying it. The staff was very helpful and service was fast.

Setting is ambient and it is a good place to doodle for sure. There are couches and tables. Draft beer, snacks, salads, sandwiches, soups, pastries, and hot beverages. Probably a good place to do 'useful' things too. Food and drinks are a little expensive. Convenient to other fun places in downtown Portsmouth. No outside food or drink.

Every aspect of the Book & Bar, from its decor and lighting to the staffs on point cheerful service, is carefully curated to provide a great atmosphere for an enjoyable experience. Whether you're there to enjoy food, drink, good company, reading books, or one of their most recent live bands for valentines dinner, you won't be disappointed. Stepping into the door brings you fully into the setting to focus on the present and leave the nagging yips and growls of everyday houndings for your attention outside.

Went for lunch with family. Everything was fresh and tasty. The Jay Drunken Noodles were amazing! My favorite app was the scallion pancake. The fresh roll and spring rolls were great too. One sister had the Pad Thai which she said was good, get extra peanut sauce. The other had Red Curry, which she said was excellent and she’s a curry snob so it must be good.

Spicey chicken wings are delicious - and yes it's spicy - but more flavorful than just heat. Give it a try! Nice customer service. Nice atmosphere! Great place for after work cocktails or dinner with friends/colleagues.

I remember when there used to be a Japanese restaurant here that sold really great Sushi. I was trying to find a place to eat before the Holiday Tree 🎄 Lighting Ceremony. I was greeted and then 🪑 seated right ▶️ away. Water 💦 was provided. I ordered Thai iced tea as my drink. I had Crispy Spring Rolls as an appetizer. I had Beef 🍖 Noodle 🍜 Soup as my main course. All were delicious. The Thai iced tea had a creamy taste. Service was very good! I recommend a visit!

Great food and service! The drunken noodle was fire and my wife loved the pad thai.

What a wonderful place!!! The atmosphere was moody and cozy, the food was decadent, and the service was quick! I’d recommend this establishment to anyone.

Excellent food! We had the BBQ ribs and the pad Thai. Both were excellent! Definitely try the Thai coffee and the mango juice, absolutely delicious! We've had a lot of Thai food. This is very good, the pad Thai does not have a spice level option but the base is so good I forgive all! Enjoy eating here!

Freaking delicious. The rice wrap on the fresh rolls has the best texture. The chicken dumplings with coconut milk drizzle was perfection. And the chicken noodle soup has tons of deep, rich flavor.

Our food was excellent. As a vegetarian, I was really happy to see they had a veggie lovers section that stated the sauce was vegetarian rather than fish or chicken sauce. The veggies were crisp and fresh. We had a great experience here. Definitely recommend.

Seafood restaurant
Surf Portsmouth is a part of a restaurant chain that started in 2002 and made its way to the city in 2011, quickly becoming a favorite among seafood enthusiasts. The restaurant benefits from its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, ensuring that only the freshest fish and seafood are served. Owner and chef Michael Buckley's extensive experience is evident in the exquisite dishes offered. The venue offers a comfortable setting with a patio and lively atmosphere, making it an enjoyable dining experience.
This food was delicious. Crab cake is a must get appetizer with a combination of flavors that will leave you wanting more. You also cannot go wrong with any combination of sushi options. The fish and chips are cooked to perfection, but the blackened shrimp tacos were an explosion to my taste buds in every bite. But that’s not all, do you like a nice cocktail? The spicy pineapple margarita will be sure to tickle your fancy. For dessert? The ice cream of special is perfect. This one pictured shows Oreos with chocolate chunks and a caramel martini with shavings of ice that only make the flavor pop. Would definitely recommend

Nice overall experience. The atmosphere is lovely, especially with the sea view—it adds a relaxing touch to the meal. The food was good, though not mind-blowing. It was quite busy when we visited, which delayed our order a bit, but the staff handled it well (and they’re very lovely). Worth a visit if you’re in the area and want a coastal dining vibe.

Nicely curated seafood restaurant with a huge bar. They offer very good greatly made sushi and a wide variety of seafood. The sushi was very good. The tune nicoise was cooked perfectly and serviced with a nice dressing. The only negative is that it can be very loud and difficult to have a conversation. The service was very good.

The view here is truly amazing, we were seated right by a huge window looking over the water and that made the dinner so good! The food was pretty good, but it did take a while to come out (the drinks did not haha!). To be able to get a table for two, we came here at 5pm, otherwise it's such a long wait because they don't take reservations. The staff cares a lot- for dessert we ordered the Tall Cake, which wasn't really to my taste and also it was HUGE, and they came out to see if anything was wrong it it

Pricey but beautiful location and excellent food and service! Definitely worth a stop. Parking is a pain but if you park further away with street parking or even find a free spot, everything is walkable in Portsmouth, and this is worth an endcap to the night. Food comes in good sizeable portions, presented well, and delicious. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. And the view if you get a window seat is great of the open bay.

Nice waterfront location, with Maine just across. The lobster rolls were delicious; I liked the traditional (cold) one better that the hotel one. Our waitress Abbie was amazing, super attentive and helpful. A great lunch break on our way north.

We have been coming to Surf Sushi in Portsmouth for many years and it never disappoints. The menu is fantastic with everything from fresh sushi rolls to appetizers and main courses that are always delicious. The staff is warm and friendly which makes every visit enjoyable. We have also hosted larger parties here including birthday celebrations and everyone left happy and satisfied. On top of that the ambience and waterfront view make it one of the best dining experiences in Portsmouth.

I went here in August with my family. I was a little disappointed. Food was okay but not amazing. It was very loud inside and there were flies we had to keep swatting away. Our server was kind but very busy, understandably. But because of that we had to wait a bit. Coming off season might be a better experience.

Wine bar
Raleigh Wine Bar + Eatery, located in Portsmouth and opened in 2018, is a chic New England-style restaurant owned by Nimi Idnani and helmed by executive chef Jeremy Glover. The downtown establishment boasts an inviting outdoor patio and a vibrant modern dining area with views of the city's Memorial Bridge.
Interesting and creative menu. Outdoor seating is great: many tables, views of the bridge, shady at dinner time from the building. I had a pressed pig head, which was soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The mushrooms with quiche and potato was my main entree, and I liked it. Ginger cake with cranberries was delicious. The service was attentive and friendly.

Came here during restaurant week and it did not disappoint! For the first dish I got the Crispy Pig Head green tomato conserva and this was on of the best dishes I have ever had! The pork was delicious and paired perfectly with the Dijon misted on it. The second dish I got was Pork Belly + Clam Stew which was also great and had a nice broth accompanying the protein. For the dessert portion I tried the dessert soup out of curiosity and it was tasty but would have just preferred a regular apple crisp over a watery version. Overall the trip was excellent the server was great and the environment in bright and welcoming. I definitely plan to go back.

The first time I came to this establishment was due to a Groupon which was offering dance classes for couples. I loved it and the hall was so big. I recommended it to my cousin for my neice sweet 17. I was so amazed to see how the new owners had made it even more beautiful. Everyone who worked their was so friendly and attentive. I was told they offer brunch and I have to come back to experience more than just dancing lol. I can't wait. If ever your in the area I definitely recommend this place. Let me know what you guys think. #vegan-ish💋

We went there during restaurant week so it was a very limited menu. I had the mussels as an appetizer and the cod as main course. Both were very flavorful. They have a very nice outdoor patio that overlooks the bridge.

The poached hen egg is truly one of the best things you’ll put in your mouth in this town. The food at Raleigh is exceptionally good. Small menu delivers on everything - fresh, delicious, and perfectly prepared. I’m not much of a wine person, but can vouch for the cocktails which are excellent. The ambiance is casual yet elevated. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Honestly not sure why this place isn’t packed every single night. Then again, I’m glad it’s not…

Raleigh offers on of the best outdoor dining experiences in Portsmouth when the weather's cooperative. Always a great spot for drinks, small plates and desserts. This particular visit we had outdoor reservations but chose to eat inside since the weather report was off and it wasn't as nice as anticipated. They regularly rotate the menu so you can always find new things to try but can be worth checking the menu beforehand to ensure you'll find something you like because what you loved last time might not be on the menu next time you visit. The staff is excellent and very knowledgeable of both the menu and wine / beverage pairings. Definitely take advantage of their expertise. Overall Raleigh is a great spot to start or end your night in downtown Portsmouth.

We love this place and go often. The menu is small and the food is simple, creative and high quality (I always get the cheese board!), cocktails are excellent, and a nice selection of beer and wine. The small staff is attentive, warm, and knowledgeable. People watching inside and out is great. One of my favorite spots in town.

Great little wine bar with a cute market attached. We had the cheese plate and the venison, which were both amazing. I really appreciated the knowledgeable servers who were able to talk about the wine on the menu. I also loved that I could go buy the bottle of wine in the market that I had tried in the restaurant! Looking forward to coming back again.

I had the chocolate brownie and the salted Caramel icecream. I’m still thinking about the brownie weeks later. It was the most delicious brownie I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this place!

Really cute little spot! The girls that were working were very sweet. The date ice cream they had today was SO DELICIOUS! Only note would be about the waffle cone— it’s very tall (which I love) but it would be hard to get ice cream all the way down, so you end up with a lot of just cone to munch on at the end. No biggie, but it would be cool if it had chocolate or something in it!

We stopped in with are kiddos on a hot Sunday. Grabbed a mint fudge and strawberry swirl. Super tiny but most of all I spit out the first taste of the mint. I don’t know what it was but it wasn’t ice cream! I have never IN MY LIFE spit out ice cream. Maybe it was spoiled. Never again.

I would like to think of myself as an ice cream expert, and this place is the absolute best in all of the NH seacoast. It is not for the ice cream novice. This place is for people who have an open flavor palette and can really appreciate the true craft of creating an ice cream experience. Chef's kiss !

Homemade ice cream with unique, gourmet flavors! Extremely accommodating to gluten free needs. The gluten free brownie looked delicious 🤤 If you’re looking for a boring and basic ice cream shop, go somewhere else. This place is about specialty ice cream, and it’s worth every penny.

Delicious, fresh ice cream. I wish I could come back every week and try the new flavor. The espresso and chocolate were great. The brown sugar nectarine tasted just like you would expect: tart juicy nectarines infused with warm brown sugar crumbles. I looovee the mini ice cream cones on the dish, its just the right size without getting a big cone. Every ice cream place should do this!

In Portsmouth for a leisurely afternoon with a friend and our dog and needed a little refreshing pick me up. Raving reviews led us here and we weren’t disappointed. We shared a ginger snap ice cream sandwich with raspberry homemade ice cream. Perfectly balanced flavors and not too sweet. It was a great size to share and it would have been easier to share if we could have cut it in half. 😔

And i cant forget the maple bourbon cold brew (alcoholic) drink that hit the spot at 8am as a well the Delicious young upstart IPA to get the day started.

Such a cool place. We are from central KY so we felt a tad of out of place walking down a bigger city road and people who dressed far different than we do. But upon entering we noticed more people who looked just like we did. Some of everything really. It’s a tourist destination so I should have expected that. But if you feel like it’s “not you” don’t worry, the waitress and hostess seating made us feel right at home. Emma was a ray of sunshine, so kind and laid back. She seemed stress free and was an ace at her job. We LOVED the special they have right now and it’s a MUST TRY. The pumpkin spice bacon was amazing! It was my fav item ordered and that’s saying something because the chicken cordon bleu Benedict was awesome as well! My hubby had the French toast monster breakfast and commented on how good the eggs and French toast are. Coffee is nice a strong too. Overall this place is a 11/10 and I’m so glad we stopped. I hope our waitress sees this review and takes pride in knowing she does an awesome job. May God bless you and yours. ~your friends from Hodgenville KY

Best boozy flights in town! Especially the coffee ones. Pancakes are huge and the best tasting pancakes I have ever had! The decor is right up any gen x's alley! So much to look at on walls, ceiling, etc.

Great place to eat and great vibes. If you are lucky enough to have Shannon or Schnookums as your waitress you know you will have a great time along with a great meal. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but pictured here are some excellent options like the Irish Benny, cinna-swirl french toast, and breakfast street tacos. The drinks are also decadent for a coffee drinker or a Boozy Coffee Flight for a choice of all the flavors.

The menu was outstanding! And the boozy coffee flight is a DREAM - every flavor combo of yummy! I forgot our servers name but she was awesome & the chicken and waffles are as yummy as you'd hope. We tried a bunch of fall flavors the bacon was a surprise & I shared the pumpkin pancakes with everyone!

As the oldest of its kind in the area, Shalimar India offers an unforgettable dining experience with delicious Indian comfort food that keeps patrons coming back for more.
If you’re craving authentic Indian food in Portsmouth, this is the place to be! I had the extra spicy chicken biryani, and it was hands down one of the best biryanis I’ve ever had perfectly spiced, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The vegetarian samosas were absolutely delicious, crispy on the outside with a well-seasoned filling. The lamb curry paired with garlic naan was another highlight, rich and aromatic. The service was exceptional friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for amazing Indian cuisine!

When we arrived, there was no wait time, the tables filled up, but not completely, by the time we were leaving. The restaurant is dimly lit with fancy stained-glass lamps. We had several different servers during our dining experience. They had a very large menu with many options. I started with a mocktail that involved guava and jalapeno, I was not impressed, it lacked any flavor whatsoever and just tasted like a flat sprite, I did not finish the drink, I should’ve gone with the mango lassi that I was debating about. The food portions were very big, enough to have a second meal for leftovers. I had the chicken rice biryani with medium spice level that I also was not impressed with. The dish lacked taste and there was no spice at all, the chicken was very dry and difficult to eat. I have had better Indian food elsewhere. Towards the end of our dining, we felt very rushed by another server who was quick to offer us to go boxes and get us on our way, we weren’t even there for an hour yet. Prices were on the higher side as expected for the Portsmouth area. Paid street parking if you’re lucky, otherwise there’s a parking garage right next store.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Clean, welcoming atmosphere right in the heart of Portsmouth. We really enjoyed the dine-in experience—everything felt authentic, from the food to the hospitality. The staff was friendly and efficient, absolutely crushing it with a steady stream of to-go orders while still taking great care of those dining in. There’s ample seating, a small bar, and plenty of nearby street parking, which made the whole visit super easy. We’ll definitely be back!

Shalimar India in downtown Portsmouth is an outstanding choice for authentic “North Indian Punjabi Cuisine” which, along with the beautiful decor and friendly service, lends to a very nice atmosphere. For my adult beverage, I went with The Yogi. Although not described as such in the menu, The Yogi sports a moderate spicy kick, and wow, it serves the drink very well; delicious and effective. For food, I started with a couple different types of Nan bread. The first was Rogni Nan which is stuffed with crushed nuts and raisins for a delightfully light crunchiness. Next was the Keema Nan, with ground lamb and peas - m’wah! The main dish I had was the Shalimar Special Biryani - ordered spicy hot - which is basically a Basmati rice bowl with various meats, veggies, nuts, raisins, and seasoning. It comes with a side of Raita, which by itself is relatively bland, but paired with and mixed into the biryani, it balances the spiciness quite nicely with this most excellently flavorful dish. Highly recommended.

Our meal was absolutely delicious! This visit we ordered Saag Paneer, Lamb Vindaloo, Seafood Marsala and the Butter Chicken Chef Style. Highly recommend the butter chicken chef style! Each bite is a flavor journey and it's spicy but not melt-your-face-off. Staff is great at helping you decide your spice comfort and with recommendations. Every bread we've tried has been great but our favorites include garlic naan and peshawari naan (stuffed with potatoes). Our favorite spot to celebrate.

This place is special worth a trip from anywhere. I've eaten Indian food all over the world and this one is one of my top favorites.
Vincent L — Google review
I would like to begin by addressing the quality of the food. It was gross the worst Indian I have ever had. I am use to eating good Indian food in Portland Maine or Florida. The samosa tasted like cheap samosas that were frozen and reheated. The dish they brought me the chicken was dry and over cooked the rice was plain and had no flavor. The yellow rice they serve is so nasty. The nan bread was the only thing that was good. The food was so bad we didn’t even dare try the dessert. The mango lassi also was not good it is way too sweet and not in a good way. Usually a mango lassi tastes delicious. They managed to even mess this one up. I really was looking forward to trying this place. The food was not good all. I got a horrible stomach ache. Terrible experience and horrendous quality.
Pomeranian E — Google review
Best Indian restaurant we have been to in over a decade! We were delighted to find Shalimar India in the heart of Portsmouth, close to hotels and a block away from the central parking garage. From the moment we walked in we were impressed, multi colored lights hang from a darkened ceiling, creating the sensation of eating beneath a starry sky. The servers were prompt, courteous, and helpful in navigating the many items on the menu. There are plenty of beverage options including a variety of wines by glass or bottle, four draft beers, over a dozen beers in cans and bottles, as well as many interesting cocktails. The menu is extensive. We tried the an order of poppadom and lamb and peas samosas for an appetizer; chicken korma and lamb vindaloo for entrees, and garlic naan. We ended with rice budding and a nut flavored ice cream. The entrees can all be adjusted based on how spicy you would like it to be. We tried the Korma as medium and the vindaloo as spicy. Both were great and the spicy was hot, but not crazy hot. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and served quickly. We’re glad we visited.

Earth Eagle Brewings is a cozy and lively brew pub nestled in the heart of historic downtown Portsmouth. This convivial spot offers a wide selection of craft beers brewed in-house, along with a full bar and a menu featuring impressive hot dogs and burgers. What sets Earth Eagle apart is its specialization in gruit, a unique brew style that forgoes hops in favor of aromatic ingredients like lemon verbena and ginger root.
Earth Eagle Brewings in Portsmouth, NH for a fun Tuesday afternoon visit. This is my second time here, my first being in May of 2022. This place is fun because they're not afraid to experiment with & merge different styles together. Definitely happy that these guys were open on a Tuesday, a lot of places aren't, but the NH seacoast seems to be all in on being open seven days a week or close to it. The last time I was here I had six different tasters to try as much as I could, but this time I grabbed a few full pours that I hadn't had. The three pints I got were the SUPER KITTY HOPPY LAGER, ROGGEN THE NIGHT Roggenbier & the BLUE BEAR BLUEBERRY PALE ALE. They all ranged in quality, but the SUPER KITTY HOPPY LAGER & the ROGGEN THE NIGHT were both the winners. The roggenbier is a style I'm happy comes around more during the fall season, I wish all these Oktoberfest beers (minus pumpkin) were available alllll year long, but then this time of year wouldn't be as fun. 🍻🤦‍♂️🍁 I sat inside at the bar this time around, but previously I had sat outside in the patio area, there is tables & hightop options as well inside. Definitely a seacoast aesthetic inside which doesn't get old for me since the whole surrounding region reminds me of staying in Rye, NH on the beach in my parents time share a few weeks every summer until I was 18 or so. My beertender Ashley was great & super friendly. I had eaten earlier, but she still almost made me get something else naming off the food options in front of me, the sign of a good server. Fun experience, glad they were open Monday's for sure! 🍻🍻🔥☘🍁 #craftbeer #NewHampshire #newengland #supportlocal #nhseacoast #untappd #newhampshireeats #BeerGoals #beerstagram

You go in, and it's got a bar and booths with games, but then you go past the chicken wire, and it's like a cool cellar bar. Drinks are good, and the bartender let us play our tunes. Pretty awesome spot!

We’re spending a night in Portsmouth on the way to Maine. We wanted to have a beer before dinner and wanted a place with some local atmosphere. We found this great brewery right in town. It’s pretty easy to get to and there’s both street parking as well as a parking garage close by. We had a hot pretzel and beer. The beer was good and had a nice flavor. We didn’t have dinner here but other people who were there did and it all looked good. They have a good selection of beer but also have wine and alcohol. The bartenders were terrific. There’s some bar seating and some tables. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor area. Definitely recommend it you want a beer.

My favorite place in town. It took a while to get a seat cause it was so busy, but it was worth it. The bar staff were really friendly and helpful, and knew their beer knowledge. I got a flight of their non-IPAs, and they were all delicious, and very different then your standard beer. It's like drinking some of the Dogfish Head experiments. Ghost Ship and Hibitchkiss, I don't think I'll ever have anything as unique again, and they were unique in a good way. The food was delicious as well, with a bowl of hearty chili crusted in cheese to warm me up on this winter day. The What the Duck sandwich, oh man, duck pastrami is sooo tender and flavorful, it's a must try. I really enjoyed my lunch here!
Benjamin B — Google review
Insane expensive and small portions. $12 for a small pretzel, $16.00 for a tiny burger and dingy atmosphere. Service was decent and friendly but the prices reflect an oceanfront, more upscale menu. 4 beers and hot dogs and burgers for 4 was $40 each including tip.

Nice little spot with a a great selection of beers. And they welcome dogs on their terrasse! They gladly offer a bowl of water to our 4 legged companion. We were unfortunately too late for the food, but their NE Gangsta IPA was awesome! 5 star for perfect service.

My husband and I went here last night for the first time. The space was cozy but very inviting. The staff was extremely friendly and willing to make suggestions or clarify any of our questions. Definitely had a "local hangout" kind of vibe as many people inside did know one another. We really liked the fact that they had flights that didn't just have to be ordered as fours. The entire menu, except for some of the seacoast week flavors, was on draft. We ended up trying 9 of the 12 offerings. There was something for every kind of beer drinker but it was also very seasonally heavy with stout options. We were able to sit there and sip for a couple hours while breaking out some cards and relaxing. This will definitely be a stop on our next trip here.

The Isles of Shoals Steamship Company offers expertly narrated river, island, and harbor tours that provide a glimpse into the local marine history, Portsmouth harbor, New Hampshire coast, and the Isles of Shoals. The company's cruises take visitors alongside the six small islands with their unique personalities and tales. From being a religious conference center to a rumored honeymoon location of the notorious pirate Blackbeard, each island has its own story to tell.
A fun experience - the boat was perfectly comfortable for the ride over and the history provided was interesting and relevant. My only complaint was that I didn’t wear enough sunscreen! Would definitely recommend.

I need to separate the cruise experience and the comfort of the boat. This is by far the most uncomfortable seats I have ever encountered on a cruise. The boat has narrow wood benches. My back and behind began hurting within 10 minutes. It was so bad that a group of elderly passengers begged the captain to return to the dock and let them off. He did. It took about 10 minutes to pull back to the dock and let those poor folks off. The narration and the views were quite interesting. But I would have enjoyed it so much more if I was more comfortable. The name of the boat is Chalanger, perhaps there are other options. A portion of the trip is fast and into the wind, so it's cold. A windbreaker is useful for that part of the trip.

IOSSC provided a wonderful day trip on the vessel ‘Challenger’ to Star Island, the 2nd largest island, about an hour’s cruise down the Piscataqua River and about 13 miles out to sea. Fully narrated with the history of the historic sights and the role Portsmouth played over several hundred years. Departure was at 9:20, allowing you plenty of time to wander on Star Island, the return trip left at 2:15 aboard the more spacious and characteristic ‘Thomas Leighton.’ Both vessels have ‘heads’ and bars. I booked on-line to be safe and secure a seat. There is a ticket booth near the vessel. It was a wonderful day and we enjoyed a picnic lunch that overlooked serenity. It was the best $89 we’ve ever spent.

We found this tour online before our trip. We were glad we had booked it. The tour we booked took us through the harbor of Portsmouth and then to Star Island. Star Island is a small and wonderful island that is walkable. We stopped by the hotel and had a snack. It was a really great visit overall! The narrator on the boat tour did a great job and was very informative. On the way back, we were lucky to see a giant ocean sunfish (aka mola mola), and that was a cool experience!

We went on the Challenger which has the worst seats imaginable, very narrow and painful. If I was rating the boat itself this would be a one star review however they redeemed themselves with the tour. The tour of the harbor was terrific, very entertaining and informative.

I opted for the Day Visit & Portsmouth Harbor Tour − 6.25 hours. It was a wonderful and relaxing experience. The island is small and easy to walk around with plenty of spots to sit back and enjoy the scenery. I also really enjoyed the boat ride, where a lot of great information was provided.

We have taken the Thomas Laighton out to Star Island, Isles of Shoals 5 times JUST this season!! Many times over the last 5 years!! It has been a wonderful experience each time!! The boat has plenty of comfortable seating on the 3 decks! Each are perfectly laid out, with inside & outside seating. The inside also has plenty of windows! The lower decks have 2 heads (bathrooms) each which are very clean . There are 3 bars which offer a nice variety of drinks & snacks! I love their pretzels! Always fresh! All 3 desks are also very clean! Both owners, Jeremy & Jarrod are very hands on & will often been seen captaining the boats. They are extremely friendly, pleasant & professional! As are the rest of their staff! I especially enjoy the narrations done while going out to Star Island & back! Each narrator puts their own spin on the sights which keeps it fun! Like I said we have been out on the ship 5 times this season & it is alway interesting!!

My husband and I visited while passing through Portsmouth in September of 2022 and had a fantastic experience. We were drawn in by the mosaic on the sidewalk out front and we stayed for the local brews and seafood. The clam chowder was awesome and the fish and chips tasted so fresh!! I loved that the bathroom door was huge and made of steel. I saw they've been closed for repairs after a water main break, so I hope they get back up on their feet again soon. We'd love to travel out here and visit again!!

Stopped in on a visit looking for an interesting lunch place. The food met our needs while the beers were just there. Service was great. The Salmon wrap and the Cauliflower appetizer were wonderfully tasty. The nachos were just ok, not bad, but not exceptional.

Splendid place downtown Portsmouth. They're dog friendly and were kind enough to give us an outside table on a long weekend without any prior reservations. The staff was welcoming and the food was really good. The portions were big and there were plenty of vegetarian options. We could also enjoy some street music and overall it was a pleasant experience. I would highly recommend this place!

My Food was delicious and yummy. The fish sandwich hit the spot. It was big in size. My server checked on us from time to time very sweet. And she provided me with hot sauce that I needed lol .

We stopped in here because we love beer- who doesn’t?! We decided to get some food as well. The beer was great and so was the food. We got two different types of loaded fries- the cheese and the Irish curry. Both phenomenal! The other two in our party did the lobster roll and the nachos and they say those were great too. I would happily return!

A great little brewery located in downtown Portsmouth. We had a really good customer service the feta spread was incredible and their chicken schnitzel was delicious. I highly recommend this place. Oh and the most important thing a great variety of beer.

We ended up having dinner at this brewery even though we had other prefererred places on our day trip to NH. It was great! All the food was so delicious and the beers were, too. The waiter was so nice to bring another beer when my friend wasnt a fan of the sour one she got. Would definitely eat/drink here again.

Had the fish and chips, great portion size. The chips went along well with the special tartar sauce. The nachos are gargantuan. Don't under estimate them. Blueberry IPA to top it off. Beautiful location with great historical views. I recommend it as a solid stop thru New England.

Popovers On the Square is a charming cafe and bakery located in Portsmouth's historic Market Square. It offers a delectable array of cakes, pies, and pastries, including their famous popovers. This popular spot is known for its mouth-watering breakfast options and sweet treats that locals love. In addition to their baked goods, they also serve soups, salads, sandwiches, and small plates for brunch.
This is the kind of place where you just KNOW everything on the menu is delicious! Best fruit tart I ever tasted with a nice touch of fruity jelly on the bottom. I picked the “pick two” option for lunch and was also blown away by the BLT and the Greek salad. The tiny popover (I think that’s what it was) was also surprisingly delicious especially with the sweet butter. My husband also enjoyed his burger. Would definitely recommend!

Came in for a popover and dessert later in the day. The popover was amazing! The kids picked a few desserts. The brownie was a little hard and cupcakes didn’t seem fresh. Maybe because we came late in the day? Maybe a discount for later in the day desserts then? We did not have any other food, but looked amazing!

Me and my friend came here today literally starving. We saw a 4.5 star and we had to try it. We both got the mix and match with a BLT and Caesar salad, two coffees, two pastries. Total of $60…. The sandwich was mid at best I could’ve went across the street and had better. I had to go back inside for some mayo because it was so dry. The Caesar salad had a sprinkle of dressing on it. Anything is good when you’re starving but this just was not a good meal especially for that price. All I can say is stick to selling your popovers and pastries and that’s it.

Popovers was a great wedding vendor for us! They were recommended by our venue. We loved doing the to-go tasting box together and they were so thoughtful in helping us design a cake we loved. It was delicious and beautiful, I'd definitely recommend them.

Cold wet mornings call for a warm pastry. I had never known about pop overs until my trip. It is better than the Elephantine coffee shop and bakery that has zero gluten free options with the only exception of hard granola. The prices are very reasonable for the portions. There were two of us. My companion had the gf quiche that comes with potatoes and a pop over. I ordered a gluten free pop over with maple butter. The best part of life is food and I am very happy I spent a moment of mine at Popovers On the Square on Congress St in New Hampshire.

Definitely don’t recommend this place! Paid extra for berries with the pancakes and after a really long wait (other people that ordered after us got their food before and were even finished and we were only a party of three) THE BERRIES WERE COVERED IN MOLD!!!!! Really discussing!!!! When we informed them and said our 3yo daughter had one they didn’t even offer anything and only answer was „I hope she doesn’t get sick“ didn’t take our plate to show to the kitchen and asked us to clear our plates as per the policy! The place itself if dirty anyway! Food was blend and tasteless!!! The service is horrible

Portsmouth Gas Light Co. is a lively and historic multi-level establishment located on Market Street in Portsmouth. It offers a variety of dining and entertainment options, including a tavern, pizzeria, nightclub, and a deck with live music. The venue has indoor and outdoor seating, with a dog-friendly patio for those traveling with pets. The menu features an array of American cuisine, from salads and burgers to wings and even lobster rolls. However, the highlight is the pizzas available exclusively for indoor dining.
Awesome lunch! They had Extra special discount prices for Father's Day, a dog friendly patio, and a multi-option dining experience. We ate outside on the dog friendly patio bar area for a Sunday lunch, but there's a pizza bar in the basement, a pub inside, and a dance club at night upstairs. Very cool spot. The vegetarian BRAAT sandwich was awesome with an ample portion of fries! The NiteLite lager was also really good. Hubby enjoyed the cheese burger. Parking is right next to the building. Paid meter lot or free street parking. Only 5 minutes from rt95. Service is speedy and friendly. We will be 100% back next time we are in town!

Pretty place right in the middle of everything. Inside was nice and cool on a hot day and inviting . Waitress was nice. Food was good but nothing great. My husband enjoyed his burger and beer. I got a chicken wrap with coleslaw and a raspberry lime rickey. Wrap was basic, nothing special. Coleslaw lacked flavor and it seemed like the raspberry lime rickey was missing the raspberry puree. It was very tart. Prices on receipt do not match menu prices. Be careful for that if on a budget. Overall, it was a decent place to cool down but nothing I would travel to visit again.

The food was subpar for what we paid. Pizza was better than domino's but not near the quality of any Italian restaurant. I ordered a Cobb salad, which had an overabundance of blue cheese crumbles. It was actually gross. The 2 pictures I took were of the Cobb salad and Ceasar salad. We did order delivery, so I wonder if it would have been better eating in. Anyways, while it was "ok" it's definitely not somewhere I'd revisit.

Hands down the worst nachos we have ever eaten! Embarrassing that they would even serve them, then have the audacity to charge $19. If we hadn’t been pressed for time we would have sent them back. Atrocious! However the service was magnificent! Our waitress Samalha (sp?) was superb! One star is too much but that’s the lowest we could give. Garbage !!! A total of 10 black beans on the whole plate.

Visited on July 2nd around 4pm expecting a pleasant happy hour experience but left frustrated due to misleading menu information and poor service coordination. The Issues: Confusing Layout & Poor Initial Service: -Multiple entry points with no clear signage about where to go -Staff watched us wander around the closed nightclub area without offering help -Had to hunt down someone to explain seating arrangements -Waited 10+ minutes outside before bartender told us to seat ourselves (despite "wait to be seated" signs) Misleading Happy Hour Menu: -Server provided THREE different menus including what appeared to be a happy hour menu -Made ordering decisions based on the smaller menu we assumed was for happy hour specials -When the $94+ bill arrived, only 1 out of 4 items had happy hour pricing applied -Server then produced a DIFFERENT happy hour menu with completely different items/pricing Poor Problem Resolution: -When I questioned the charges, server acknowledged the confusion but said "nothing she could do" -Offered to "tell the owner" but provided no actual solution -Suggested signing up for rewards program that takes 72 hours to activate (useless for current visit) The Positives: Food quality was excellent (crab cakes, Tuscan mussels, clam strips were all great) Our actual server was pleasant and helpful once we finally got one Bottom Line: While the food was good, the poor communication, misleading menu presentation, and unwillingness to address the confusion made this a frustrating experience. For a restaurant charging $90+ for appetizers and drinks, I expect clearer policies and better customer service when their own menu confusion causes billing issues. Would I return? Probably not. Too many other great restaurants in Portsmouth that don't leave you feeling like you've been misled about pricing. Note: The irony of the "Gas Light Co." name wasn't lost on me given how this situation was handled.

I hope this gets to the owner or a manager. We had the most disappointing experience this evening. We called yesterday (10/12) and made a reservation for 8 people for 6pm today (10/13). When we arrived we were told there was no reservation and to go downstairs. When we spoke to the woman downstairs, she said, “I’m not lying, you don’t have a reservation.” Every single staff member we spoke with was rude and unhelpful. A younger woman in a pink polo was absolutely nasty to us, to the point where we were handed the reservation book by a manager “to prove” there was no reservation…guess what? Our reservation was RIGHT THERE, but the person who took it wrote it incorrectly. When we pointed this out to the rude girl in the polo shirt, she didn’t even apologize (and she was likely the person who took the reservation, since she adamantly declared she was the person taking reservations when we called yesterday). This event was for a birthday, a special occasion. We chose the Gaslight because we have celebrated special events there before and hoped for the same great experience. Unfortunately the staff was so rude and unprofessional that we will likely never return. We walked across the street to the River House and were seated immediately and treated with grace and hospitality. Gaslight should be ashamed the employees lack of professionalism. A simple “my mistake, I’m sorry” would have been absolutely fine. Our family understands that restaurants get busy, mistakes happen, and staffing is tough. But between three staff members being rude and unprofessional, and one woman actually yelling at our party, we are done.

Owned by local restaurateurs, the restaurant prides itself on using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create innovative dishes such as Duck Bolognese and Korean BBQ Ribs. The bar serves an array of craft beers, fine wines, and top-shelf spirits alongside classic cocktails with a modern twist.
This was a fun find in Portsmouth. My fiancé and wanted to grab a bite to eat somewhere unique and this was it. It has good vibes walking in and the food/drink was delicious. This place had one of the more unique drink menus I’ve seen. I tried one of their dill/pickle drinks. Even though I love pickles, that drink didn’t do it for me. But it was so creative so definitely work a try! I’d come back to try more things on the menu.

We walked in on a Sunday night at about 9pm, looking for cocktails. We immediately felt like we were tourists in a local spot. All eyes on us. The bartender was a girl in her 20s, cute, ponytail, etc. There were 4 of us and we all ordered drinks. My husband ordered a Coors. She asked if he wanted light or Banquet. My husband said, regular Coors, then said, Banquet. She brought our drinks and gave him a Coors Light. He very nicely said, I ordered the regular/Banquet one. She looked skeptical, and I said, he did, I heard him. She was so mad. He said, don't worry about it, I'll drink it. She said no, no I'll get you one, threw away the Coors light in a very angry way slammed it into the garbage and got him a regular Coors. I said, "please don't be mad, it's not that big of a deal", she said, "I'm not mad" (but clearly was). It was so uncomfortable and weird. The 4 of us stayed for about 10 minutes, then left. I was surprised at the level of disdain I felt from the whole place. We had no problem leaving because my husband wanted to watch football on one of the TVs and they had wrestling on. Weird, Weird place. I will never go back and don't recommend any out-of-towners go there. I contemplated reaching out to the owners, then decided to write this review.

This place is trash. The pour on a bourbon was half of what it should be. There were flies all around our table trying to get in our food. Landed in our drinks. My husband ordered the burger medium and it was over cooked. The gnocchi was SWIMMING in oil. First and last time visiting, sad because the menu sounds amazing but isn't executed well. I emailed the manager weeks ago, on 11/16. They couldn't even bother to respond. Would not recommend. Owners response proved my point. We were pleasant in the restaurant, tipped normally despite the horrid food because it wasn't the waitresses fault. Even she looked embarrassed to bring the food out. I emailed you privately not even asking for anything just to make you aware, but you never responded. Only when you are called out in public do you respond. I hope others sort by newest comments and read the owner's responses to all. It was a bison burger, not a smash burger. There is no way that was butter, I know the difference. $197 for garbage. I look forward to coming back to check on your reviews in a few months and seeing not only your score dwindle, but hoping to see "under new ownership" or "permanently closed". You aren't cut out for this business.

We came for a NYE dinner. The service was super slow. The drinks, when they finally came, were weak and glasses weren’t full. For the price, I expected more. We ordered a few apps and a few rounds of drinks, and then decided not to eat because everything was taking too long. I did enjoy the $30 nest and cheese board. Apps and drinks for 6 people was almost $300, I left hungry and not buzzed.

Went for dinner Friday, and was so good, brunch the next morning. At dinner the atmosphere is lively, but not obnoxious. We shared the Poutine and the Chicken Bucket and it was OUTSTANDING food. SO GOOD. At brunch don’t miss the Short Rib Benedict, and I added an egg to the Mushroom Melt for a creative and delicious take on an egg sandwich. Olivia was lovely… we had her for both meals! Situated in a trendy and sleek space, Row 34 is a seafood restaurant that has made a name for itself in Portsmouth. The establishment prides itself on sourcing the finest oysters and fresh fish from the nearby Fish Pier, as well as offering an impressive selection of craft beers. With locations in Boston, Burlington, Portsmouth, and soon to be Cambridge, Row 34 serves lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.
Was in town for a business, and my colleagues best friend happens to be a local chef. He met us at Route 34 in Portsmouth as a starter we sampled some oysters. I ordered a nice glass of white wine: Landhaus Mayer from Austria. Excellent wine. Main course I ordered crispy whole fish. We were seated at a nice place by the entrance. We could overlook the folks preparing the oysters. Service was excellent. The waiter constantly checked on us to make sure we were OK. Main course portion was really nice. All in all an amazing dining experience. Next time I would order more oysters to sample. Don’t forget to order the blood orange sorbet as dessert. Super yummy.

We had lunch on Market Square Day and it was a little slow. Our waitress was very friendly, efficient, attentive and professional. I had a "Sunday Sauce" draft which was great. Our cornbread was served in a small cast iron skillet with maple butter. It tasted great but was dry. I ordered the oyster and the green crab sliders which tasted great but had little too much bun and I would have liked more filling. I had the 242 fries which were very good. The other diners had fish and chips which had a huge portion and fish tacos which were reported as very good also.

We went to seek for Clam Chowder soup in Portsmouth, and came across eating other items from Row 34. Ordered New England clam chowder soup, Lobster roll, Green crab slider and raw oysters. The food was all fresh and delicious. The New England Clam Chowder had a homemade crisp cracker in the soup. The extra crisp and crunch was great. The Lobster roll had homemade chips - my husband said it was delicious and fresh. The green crab slider (often has the pickled jalapeños- I saud no to spice) was interesting because it had a small soft shell crab right in the middle. Tasty and flavorful. The oysters had three sauces with the meal. All fresh and made well. We came in around 9pm, the restaurant closes at 11pm. We were served by Mike who my husband had asked what oysters he recommended and he delivered with the right choices. Thank you for your help, Mike. All payments accepted, parking is along the street with meters, free after 8pm. Decor and atmosphere was relaxing and semi dark in Row 34.

What a wonderful experience through and through! We were sat within an appropriate amount of time for walk-in on a beautiful day outside. The service was excellent and everyone was very attentive. The host was great, and our waitress bubbly- informative, and attentive. Mouth watering seasonal cocktails, delicious and FRESH seafood appetizers. Our entrees did take a little longer than expected, waitress explaining that there were a few large parties inside.. But they brought out a complimentary platter of jumbo shrimp cocktail completely unexpectedly!! It was such a pleasant, kind surprise. We were more than fine waiting- but that gesture, especially first time in, made the entire experience all that much better. Can't wait to dine there again.

Nice restaurant and servers. Service was slow but we weren’t in a hurry. There was basically nothing vegan so beware of that. I was there on a business dinner so I just had to make due. There weren’t any vegetarian entrees either so I just shared some delicious sides with my friends. (The rolls and mac n cheese were delish). The omnivores loved their oysters and lobster roll.

We came on a reservation. We changed the res a couple times, but they were still able to accommodate us. Open table is great! We got in and were seated at a high top. And then we sat, and sat, and sat some more. Finally the host came over after 15 minutes and got us started. After that, things were great. The food was excellent. I had a coconut curry seafood stew. I also shared some oysters and a corn bread. Food was fresh, and service was fine after the initial wait.

I visited the Boston Row 34 location many years ago, and it was quite memorable, so I was excited to come here while in town for the day. It's spacious, has a good vibe, and had an excellent menu of regional seafood; raw options, wines/drinks were abundant, but I didn't have any this time. I presume the menu changes a little from time to time, but I remember the monkfish from my visit years ago and it was still on the menu. This time I started with the crab cake; it was a 6.5/10 for me.. good textures, but could have had more flavor and maybe some acidity. The steelhead trout was my entree; the fish was cooked pretty good and had decent seasoning, but the squash puree was the excitement-adder to the dish.. 7/10 dish for me. Service was decent. They kind of forgot about me for a long time after I recieved and finished my entree. I didn't walk away quite as enthused as I did many years ago, but it was still a solid meal.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Row 34 in Portsmouth, NH, for a work event—and I can absolutely see why it came highly recommended. Located in a charming part of town, the space itself has a welcoming, modern-industrial vibe that’s both relaxed and upscale. Perfect for a work gathering or a casual night out. We arrived just before the tail end of happy hour and managed to try a few drinks and bites before the main dinner. I ordered the Mai Tai, which was surprisingly strong (in a good way!) and absolutely delicious—definitely not your typical watered-down happy hour cocktail. We also tried the Purple Rain mocktail and asked for rum to be added. The result was a tropical, coconut-forward drink that gave off serious beach bar vibes. Several people in our group took advantage of the happy hour oysters, which came highly recommended—and for good reason. They were fresh, well-prepared, and a great deal. For dinner, the fish and chips got rave reviews around the table. The mussels were also a hit—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. What stood out most, though, were the sides. The mac and cheese was creamy and rich, and the asparagus had a smoked flavor that made it one of the best versions I’ve ever tasted. A standout item we didn’t initially want to order but ended up passing around the table was the biscuit. It’s huge—definitely shareable—and served with honey butter that’s absolutely to die for. If you go, do not skip the biscuit. The 242 fries were disappointing. A bit bland! A few folks also sampled some of the craft beers on tap. From friendly service to the cozy yet polished ambiance, Row 34 delivered across the board. Whether you’re visiting Portsmouth or a local looking for a solid spot for seafood and drinks, this place is well worth a visit.

Their expansive bar is backed by a continuous wall of TVs and more dot the walls of the dining areas. The open restaurant has plenty of seating, especially along the bar. Their menu has all the classic pub food, some with an inventive twist and clever names. They have a gluten-free menu available but not a dedicated fryer. I really enjoyed my cauliflower crust Greek pizza, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the Bullwinkle burger and was able to upgrade it to two patties. Our server, Sean, was attentive, friendly, and made sure our experience was perfect. This is an excellent location to stop by for a meal for solo guests, couples, families, or groups. We'd definitely come back to Thristy Moose the next time we're in the area.

Really neat place. There is a large beer selection. The smoked wings were so good and crispy. I highly recommend the smash burger tacos too! I’m glad we stopped here for lunch

Massive beer selection, with every kind of style available. Bar is backed by a video wall for easy sports viewing from any seat. The length of the bar does make it trickier to flag down a bartender, but the staff did an admirable job in ensuring everyone was served. The chicken and waffle sliders were unique, but nothing special.

This was the only place opened at midnight. Food was good for most part. Wings were juicy but lacked some seasoning. I like the decors inside and variety of beer options in here. Our server was welcoming as well. Highly recommend if you are into different assortment of beers.

Huge selection of beer on tap and excellent food! We only tried the pretzel (half eaten in photo) and it was delicious, the cheese spread was too good.

Visited with friends on a Wednesday afternoon and there were maybe 10 people in the whole place, waited a few minutes for drinks and then server disappeared, she finally returned to take our food order, and another round of drinks and then we waited...... And waited and waited.... 45 minutes later we asked for our bill and cancel our food... Can't imagine what took 45 minutes for a pizza, fries and chicken tenders... Only reason I gave 2 stars was because the atmosphere was nice and there were tons of drink options

Ordered takeout, 13 bucks for poutine fries, it want the only thing I ordered. It isn't about the quality of the food it is a out the quantity. You pay 13 bucks for some fries covered in gravy you expect a shareable portion. You can see the bottom of the tin.... Do better.

Thirsty Moose Taphouse in Portsmouth, NH is an absolute gem for anyone looking for a fun, casual dining experience with an outstanding selection of craft beers. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by the lively yet laid-back atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, eager to help me choose from their vast beer menu that boasts over 100 taps. I decided to try their signature Moose Burger, and it absolutely exceeded my expectations—juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The onion rings on the side were crispy and delicious, making for a well-rounded meal. The interior has a great rustic charm with plenty of space and big-screen TVs everywhere, perfect for catching the latest game. Whether you’re coming with friends or on a casual date night, this place strikes the right balance between energetic and comfortable. Prices are very reasonable given the quality of food and drink, and the portions are generous. I appreciated the attentive service that made the experience smooth from start to finish. I’d definitely recommend Thirsty Moose to locals and visitors alike looking for great food, a welcoming vibe, and a fantastic craft beer selection in Portsmouth. I can’t wait to return for another round!

Albacore Park, located in Portsmouth, NH, is a museum centered around the USS Albacore submarine. The museum offers tours of the decommissioned submarine and features historical exhibits related to its significance. Visitors can explore the submarine through self-guided tours that take them through each chamber, with audio kiosks providing historical insights and stories from former crew members. Additionally, there is a memorial garden honoring ships and individuals lost during World War II and the Cold War.
You really need to check this place out. Heart felt moment. Tixs are 13$ i believe to go inside the submarine but we'll worth it. There is a little museum, and a gift shop. They are so nice inside. We'll worth the trip

The USS Albacore is a retired US Navy submarine that is open for all to see. The Albacore was built in the 1950’s in Portsmouth, NH. At the time of its launch in 1953 it had a revolutionary design. The design, operations, and life of the crew are all explained very well on the self-guided tour of the submarine. The submarine could hold a crew of about 54. On the self-guided tour of the submarine you can see the spaces where the crew operated, ate, and slept on the submarine. As you go through the submarine there are red buttons located throughout the cabin. After hitting the button a voice will come on explaining the significance of the part of the sub you’re looking at. It’s really unique that the person talking at each station served on the submarine. Perhaps, the most interesting part of the sub tour is seeing the living quarters for the crew. As you would imagine it’s incredibly small and narrow. You will also have to duck your head down at certain points as you walk through the submarine. You will also get to see the controls of the submarine. The sonar system is interesting and again was revolutionary when first used. On top of that the diesel engine and electric batteries for operation are all visible. When you’re done on the submarine there is a small museum inside the visitor center. It has interesting naval artifacts. This is an excellent site to see in the Portsmouth area. The submarine is a well preserved piece of history. Outside the visitor center are some nice monuments dedicated to those who served. Tours are easy to do and there is a lot to learn at this site.

What a cool place and a very unique experience. Touring a submarine was awesome, and educational. I wouldn't pass this opportunity up if you are in the area.

Great time and learning how life was for our Sailors. One piece of advice per park rules children under 2 may not enter the Submarine. The park guides were pleasant on explaining to us as we have a child under 2 and was very understanding to the dangers of the Sub . Great photo ops and the museum.

A must visit if you’re in town. When can you ever enter a submarine?! It’s a self-guided tour with audio recording in different sections. Pretty cool experience, I’ll leave it at that!

It is vey nice to know how it looks like and how people can live inside it. It is a very narrow way and all doors are very small, but people can still squeeze in!

We had a great experience with Portsmouth Harbor Cruises! The Captain & crew did a great job, There was a lot of good commentary along the way and we got a lot of area history. Tickets were reasonable and they do have snacks & drinks available for purchase. the boat itself was clean and well maintained. also, it was not over crowded which we loved. Definitely a fun adventure and we hope to go out again some day.

I’m a local and a little embarrassed to admit this was my first time taking a Portsmouth Harbor Cruise—but I’m so glad I did! I went with a couple of friends on the Heritage boat, and it turned out to be a perfect weather day, ideal for photos. The cruise was very informative. The captain shared a lot of history as we made our way out to the Isles of Shoals and back, and we even spotted plenty of wildlife (including various birds and seals). The staff was friendly, and there was a bar on board for adult beverages, sodas, and small snacks. The seating is mostly bench-style along the edges of the boat, so space is a little tight, but manageable if you keep things close by. The ticket price was an excellent value for what we got out of the experience. 🌞 Tip: Don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a jacket—it can feel cooler out on the ocean even on warm days. All in all, a fantastic outing. I’d absolutely do it again!

Surprised my wife with a Portsmouth Harbor Cruise tour of the harbor which visited Wood Island Life Saving Station. We were taken there via The Utopia, a small vessel that served snacks and a few alcoholic beverages. The first mate, Addison, served us the drinks upon request and was able to answer any questions that the 10 people in on the boat. The tour didn’t include any audio on The Utopia that told us about the harbor but when we arrived the Wood Island, there was another women aboard who was able to introduce us to the Life Saving Station and answer our questions about the island.

I am surprised with myself that I have not taken a cruise, not Tom, with them sooner! I was born and grew up in Portsmouth so I guess what I considered fun changes with ageing. I have walked, 🚲 biked and driven by multiple times until I finally talked to an associate last year and I was told about Wood 🪵 Island Saving Station. It sounded fascinating and I said I would visit next year. A discount online convinced me to purchase a ticket 🎫. Then I invited my daughter.. We sailed on the Utopia and it was comfortable. There were times with the rough water 🌊 people, including some of the crew, would go overboard! For me, going under the Memorial Bridge and touring the waterfront of Portsmouth, Kittery and New 🆕 🏰 Castle brought back 🔙 a lot of happy memories! My daughter was watching videos but would look up and smile 😁 at the water 💦. The crew were friendly and helpful! A pleasure to be with! Wood 🪵 Island 🏝️ Life 🧬 Saving Station 🚉 was enjoyable for me. The museum 🖼️ was interesting since I enjoy history. Standing on the deck on top 🔝 of the station was fun! Great views all around the island! My daughter was "😕 Meh" and she was nervous with the steps to the deck. The trip back 🔙 was more enjoyable because I felt like I got to experience more memories and observe how much has changed over the decades! I have sailed the same route before but not for a while. I am going to recommend a visit and I hope to take another cruise again !

The afternoon booze cruise was a delightfully social experience between tourists, academics, and locals looking for a fun evening. The route and view along the way was beautiful, and the sun hung low only added to how picturesque everything was. If you can ztomach a cocktail and a rocking boat, this might be one of the most fun ways to start any late night venture in Portsmouth.

I decided on the spur of the moment to take this cruise and I'm so glad I did. We had beautiful weather and the historical narration that accompanies the cruise is fascinating. While the cruise is not an excessively long one, there's a lot to see as you travel the river and around the harbor. We even traveled down to the Rye, NH harbor where they leave for whale watching tours. And of course, we couldn't help but visit the coastal waters of Maine. This is a must participate activity. I'd purchase tickets early. Even though I was lucky enough to get same day passage, they do sell out quite often.

Wine bar
Black Trumpet is an intimate bistro and wine bar located in a 200-year-old building in Portsmouth, NH. The chef-owned establishment offers globally inspired dishes with a menu that changes frequently, drawing inspiration from Mediterranean country cuisine. Chef-owner Evan Mallett is known for his locavore approach and expertise in foraging, reflected in the seasonal rhythms of the menus. The cozy waterfront bistro provides a rustic and romantic ambiance, making it an ideal spot for lunch or dinner throughout the year.
My recent dinner at Black Trumpet in Portsmouth was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I stepped into the charming, historic building overlooking the Piscataqua River, I was captivated by its warm, intimate ambiance. The exposed brick walls, wooden beams, and candlelit tables created a cozy and romantic atmosphere perfect for a special night out. The service was impeccable, attentive without being intrusive. Our server was not only knowledgeable about the menu but also enthusiastic about sharing recommendations and wine pairings, which elevated the experience. The food was simply outstanding. The wine selection was carefully curated, offering a variety of biodynamic and sustainable options. Black Trumpet is more than a restaurant, it’s a celebration of flavors, creativity, and hospitality. Whether you’re seeking a romantic date night or a memorable dinner with friends, this gem in Portsmouth is an absolute must-visit. Highly recommended!

My wife and I were on a quick weekend getaway to Portsmouth and read so many great things about Black Trumpet. The food, atmosphere and service were top notch. We didn’t have a reservation so we sat at the bar and we were served by John. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the drinks and cocktails he makes. He chatted us up and other patrons at the bar and made us feel like regulars. My wife and I split the lamb which was perfectly cooked served with zucchini, couscous, and a tomato spread. A great blend of flavors. The restaurant is small and intimate in a very old building with ton of history. We will certainly be back the next time we’re in the area

First time in Portsmouth and could not have picked a better first night dinner. Made reservations ahead so no wait. We shared two appetizers, a medium plate and the seafood paella for our final course. Everything was delicious and filling. Dana was our server and was exceptionally helpful, including wine choice. Monica the hostess kicked off our dinner with “best seat in the house”!

The best dining experience we had this winter (and into spring) was at Black Trumpet. The food was exceptional. The scallops were cooked to perfection, and the combination of crisp endives and bacon was unbeatable! We also tried the chef's special, duck breast with wild rice, which was equally delicious. The drinks were delightful, and the service was commendable. Our server offered recommendations in a friendly manner.A highlight of our visit was the stunning view, which was particularly breathtaking on a perfect day.We will definitely return here.

We rented out the first floor of the Black Trumpet for our wedding rehearsal dinner and had an amazing experience. The food was delicious (as expected) and we loved the care that they put into our menu and into the space. They printed special menus for our dinner, made sure to have some food out right away for our guests, and served drinks quickly so that our guests felt settled and comfortable right off the bat. We loved the local, seasonal menu, which was perfectly prepared and beautifully plated. Plus the pastry chef even made a delicious surprise dessert for me and my fiance. We would highly recommend Black Trumpet for your private events or just for a date night. We hope to be back many more times.

Historic building with arguably the best food in Portsmouth, which is saying ALOT since there’s such intense competition in town. They also hold the trophy in my mind for the most creative dishes I’ve ever had. Such intense flavor across all of their rotating offerings. A notable highlight is their venison - divine! They also have a jaw dropping basque dessert. I really love the preserved history of the building - you can see and feel it as soon as you walk in.

Black Trumpet is a fantastic find. The steak I had was one of the best I’ve ever tasted: juicy, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The whole dinner felt like a focus on fresh, local ingredients. The bartender made a Manhattan that impressed me, and I’m pretty picky about mine. The host was professional and welcoming, which added to the warm, cozy vibe. It’s the kind of spot where you feel comfortable and well cared for, making it a great pick for a memorable night out.

This used to be our favorite restaurant. The menu was always unique and in the past everything had been done so well. We were there last night and the portions were ridiculously small compared to our many past visits. The bowl of squash soup I ordered covered 1/4 of the bowl. It clearly wasn’t even the quantity of a cup, yet listed as a bowl on the menu for around $15. The Tagliatelle was also a tiny portion compared to the past, as this is a regular item on their menu. It was by no means a full portion. For the price point of this restaurant, this was unacceptable. Perhaps they should offer different pricing for these half portions. No longer our favorite place. :(

Nestled right on the river's edge, Old Ferry Landing is a charming seafood shack that captures the essence of East Coast dining. With its picturesque views of tugboats and Portsmouth Harbor, this beloved establishment has been serving up fresh seafood for over 40 years. Open during the warmer months, it offers a delightful menu featuring lobster rolls, fried clams, grilled shrimp, and classic New England clam chowder.
Really great food and options! We were able to get our group of 7 seated outside with no wait at lunch on a Friday. A few of us split platters between two, which was perfect. The view was incredible, and the service was great.

My wife and I recently dined at Old Ferry Landing in Portsmouth, NH, drawn by its waterfront location and casual ambiance. We started with the Lobster Bisque, which was deliciously creamy and packed with a generous amount of lobster pieces. Service was quick, and our bisque was brought out almost immediately, setting a great tone for the meal. For the main course, my wife had the Broiled Scallops with roasted potatoes, while I opted for the Fried Scallops with fries. While my wife wasn’t a fan of her scallops—she prefers them charred rather than soft—I appreciated the flavor, but found the texture not to my liking. Having tried fried scallops for the first time, I now know they aren’t for me; I much prefer fried clams. Despite some mixed feelings about the food, the quick service and the stunning waterfront views made the overall experience enjoyable. The restaurant's prime downtown location is a big plus for anyone looking to enjoy Portsmouth's charming atmosphere.

Went there on a Tuesday night around 530 or so. There was a short wait as they prepared a table as we were a party of 6. We sat outside. It was cool with the tug boats lined up and also watching the terns dive for fish. We ordered some fried zucchini as an appetizer and some drinks. Both were good. My wife ordered a lobster roll for dinner. She said it was good, but I think it could have been stuffed with more meat. I had the haddock basket. It was a good size for a basket (they did offer a plate). It tasted fresh and was really good. All and all, a good experience and I would return.

The friendly staff greeted us as we entered and walked us out to the deck, where we sat over the water. We ordered the Lobster Feast w/2 Whole lobsters, corn on the cob, and mussels… and lobster bisque It came out and WOW! Our server explained how to best disassemble and eat the lobster! 🤣 The flavor and freshness was 2nd to none! The views of the water and boats was also a plus! My favorite meal I’ve ever eaten.

We stopped by for lunch on our way to Portland. It wasn't during a peak time so we were the only table. We got the lobster bisque and swordfish sandwich. The lobster bisque was easily the best I've ever had. There was so much lobster meat in it and for $14 it felt like a steal. The swordfish was cooked perfectly and even though it was a simple sandwich, it was done very well. Also, the fries were very solid. I wish we had more time in the area but this restaurant definitely made a lasting impact.

The Portsmouth Historical Society, established in 1917, is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Portsmouth through exhibitions, programs, and historic tours. The society's John Paul Jones House, a national historic landmark built in 1758, offers visitors a glimpse into the city's past. Additionally, the center hosts rotating exhibits featuring regional art and cultural attractions. Visitors can also enjoy informative videos about Portsmouth's history and take part in event rentals at the historic buildings and grounds.
I already know I will revisit this place after the holidays. Great staff, friendly and informative. The building houses the historical society, a wonderful gift shop, and an African American Cultural Center. The day I went, there was an amazing gingerbread display on the first floor and upstairs there was an exhibit of gorgeous furniture. I never knew this was here, just a few miles away from York, Maine, where I was celebrating Thanksgiving. I can't wait to go back to experience other exhibits and perhaps a walking tour around this historic hub.

The walking tour was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the glorious history of Portsmouth, NH and its deep roots in American history. Our guide, Elizabeth,, was knowledgeable, accommodating and shared personal anecdotes to enliven the stories. I highly recommend this tour. Please be aware if you add the John Paul Jones House on a 230pm tour you must see it first. It was closed after our tour but the society staff refunded us. And we enjoyed visiting with them at the lovely gift shop. Next visit we will see all the old homes that were pointed out on the tour and go to Strawberry Banke. Portsmouth is a delightful city and everyone we met was so friendly and helpful we will definitely be returning soon.

We recently enjoyed an excellent Portsmouth walking tour with Alan as our guide. We have lived on the Seacoast for over 40 years, always appreciating our whole area. However, this was a special treat. Alan was very knowledgeable, sharing so much interesting information, much that was new to us. His pace was great, always allowing time for questions, and the earphones made it easy to hear regardless of our distance from our guide. We left with a whole new appreciation of our home area. Thank you, Alan!

If you're looking for a spot to enjoy the view of boats sailing on the Piscataqua River, Rio Cantinas deck is an ideal location. With plenty of umbrellas to provide shade from the sun, it's a great place to relax while your relatives explore Portsmouths unique soap stores. This Mexican restaurant offers a refreshing change from traditional New England cuisine, with chili lime shrimp tacos that perfectly complement margarita flavors such as strawberry, passion fruit, and blood orange.
Wonderful lunch. We had the opportunity to eat in the deck in the early May sun which was the beginning of a delightful dining experience. The wait staff took the time to be concern to see that everything about our lunch was optimal. Now for the food. The chicken enchiladas were the perfect blend of tortilla, cheese and meat. The serving size is plentiful. My husband, who has a good appetite and was hungry, brought home 1/3 of his meal. My guacamole was fresh chucks of all ingredients, and the pomegranates were a delightful surprise. I had the pleasure of trying the special of lobster cemita it was amazing. I have raved about it all day. The lobster was cooked perfectly and had a light adobo mayo which provided light seasoning. There was a bountiful serving of lobster paired with a perfectly ripened avocado. The side of yuca fries were seasoned perfectly. Definitely a special worth trying. We enjoyed our lunch completely

Fine dining restaurant
The Library Restaurant is housed in the historic Rockingham Hotel, originally built as the home of Judge Woodbury Langdon in the late 1800s. The elegant mansion offers a clubby atmosphere for enjoying steakhouse cuisine, wines, and a lively bar scene. The restaurant features beautiful wood moldings, bookshelves, decorative fans and lights, and paneled ceilings that create a stunning ambiance.
My husband and I have been to The Library Restaurant previously. We decided to dine there again for Mother’s Day 2025. We made a reservation for lunch and we got a phone call the day before letting us know they upgraded us and put us in the main dining room in front of the fireplace, super awesome! When we arrived, we were seated right away and then promptly greeted by our server, Leah K. She was kind, funny, polite and made suggestions every step of the way. We first ordered drinks from the bar, a dirty martini for me and a margarita for the hubby. We then ordered steak tartar from the starter menu. I have had it before at other fine steak houses, but I have to say, this one was not great. It was chewy, lots of fat and not much flavor at all. Next time, we will pass on the appetizer. The main meal: I ordered the 8oz filet medium rare and my husband ordered the gentlemen’s cut rare. Both steaks were done to perfection. We also ordered a side to share, potatoes au gratin, which were amazing. I ordered another drink, but it took so long, I was going to cancel. Our fabulous server, Leah K, said it will be made, but at no charge to us. Very kind of her to rectify the issue. We ordered dessert to go, the chocolate layered cake, chocolate mousse (GF) for my celiac daughter who had to work :( and a slice of carrot cake for me. All desserts were good, flavorful. The carrot cake was really fresh when I had a bite of it before bed, I was so full from lunch, I didn’t get to enjoy it on Mother’s Day. Overall a great meal and wonderful service. I am sure we will be back again.

My wife and I recently celebrated our anniversary at The Library Restaurant, and we couldn’t have chosen a better place for the occasion. Without a reservation, we took a chance and were lucky to find two great seats at the bar. From the start, the experience was exceptional. Andrew, our mixologist crafted some amazing cocktails that set the tone for the evening. We shared the Chateaubriand, which was perfectly prepared and lived up to every expectation. The old-world ambiance of the restaurant adds to its charm, making every visit feel special. The Library Restaurant consistently delivers top-notch food, drinks, and service. Whether it’s a celebration or just an evening out, this place never disappoints!

Loved our dinner & experience here. The steak and lamb were cooked exceptionally and the sides were great. Amazing options for cocktails, we got the Silk Road & alchemist and would recommend both. Our service was great, we will definitely come back and recommend!

In general the food was excellent. The steak and pork chop were absolutely top-notch. Service was lacking and was on par with a low tier restaurant. The ice tea was absolutely terrible and I was appalled that I was presented 3 separate glasses of ice tea that appeared like muddy water and tasted equally as bad. The servers saw that his tea was different than the first couple of glasses that had a typical golden hue yet brought it to the table anyway. A manager strolled by and for a routine check in and indicated they were having problems with the tea. The servers never communicated that to us and brought out a slightly less bitter glass in the final act. Moreover the tea was from a gun and not fresh brewed--would you serve coffee not fresh brewed? A restaurant of this quality should cheap out or try to be convenient--be the standard for dining. Otherwise the bread was great; corn fresh but forgettable; truffle fires were amazing and finally service was disappointing and ruined an otherwise good eating experience.

Oh.my.goodness. I've heard the "hype", I've read the reviews. It's not hype. It's actually acclamation which is so well deserved. We moved here a few months ago and have been supporting all the local restaurants and businesses we can. We came here last week and sat at the bar, after being greeted warmly at the door of the amazing place. Cameron & Michael were absolutely lovely and skilled beyond! They were busy every single second we were there, moving through their long list of requested libations like ripples in water - smooth and unending. They managed to wait on us and several other patrons sitting at the bar as if we were their priority, not just someone extra to serve. Several of us had dinner at the bar and never waited on a thing. It was amazing how smoothly and professionally they all were. The wait staff was friendly, kind, helpful as they came and asked for their orders from Cameron and Michael. There was a very odd request (to us, not to the staff). The staff had never heard of what was asked but they all eagerly shared it with each other so they would learn something to help other customers in the future. Not ONE of them made a snarky comment or acted as if this was anything other than a simple request and a learning moment. (A customer with strict adherence to gluten free issues asked about their straws. Who knew a straw could contain gluten unless it effected you personally? Now we know. And the staff passed it on as if someone had simple asked for more ice in their drink. It was lovely to see them all work as a team or conscientious, kind, concerned professionals. We decided right then, even BEFORE our amazing dinner came, that this place would be TOPS on our list. The dinner! We had the ahi tuna appetizer, which was delicious and so nicely done - rare and cold the way my husband loves it and with some great sauces and spices. He was quite happy. For dinner I had the lobster bisque and husband had the pork chop. The bisque was glorious with nice bits of lobster and very creamy. The pork chop was cooked perfectly, tasted delicious (yep, I stole a bite! Lol) and the asparagus was cooked greatly! We enjoyed it all. We took a piece of chocolate cake and cheese cake home to have later, as we were good and full from the terrific dinner. Dessert was fab!! And the small touches - our dinner bill came inside an actual BOOK! This place is absolutely beautiful and so well done. 💜 We will go again and again!! Thanks, Cameron and Michael for dinner and entertainment! You guys rock!

We visited The Library for the second time on a much-needed date night away from the kids, and once again, it delivered an unforgettable steakhouse experience. It’s hands down the best we've ever had. This is the only restaurant where I prefer sitting at the bar—the bartenders are incredibly welcoming and craft some of the best drinks you’ll find anywhere. Lance introduced us to a cocktail called the Caribbean Cowboy, and it was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted—warm, smooth, and reminiscent of freshly baked banana bread. Absolutely amazing. The ambiance is rich with character, the service is top-notch, and the steaks? Simply phenomenal.

The last time I've been to The Library, it was for my graduation from UNH, 11 years later, I'm back and I'm happy to say, nothing has changed. It's impossible to overstate what an impression this place gives. From the moment you step in, you know you're in a special place. Then, you are led into thr main dining room and yes, you are in the middle of a library. The pork belly is simply to die for and the crab cakes are a must — having all kinds of crab cakes from different places in New England, the crab cakes here are simply the best. I loved my Gentleman's cut, but felt i should have gone with the Filet Mignon for a more tender bite. To end things off, please get the Peanut Butter Pie!!! I'm not a peanut butter person but the pie rocked my world. So yes, I hope it won't be another 11 years till I'm back again.

Food was delicious, ambiance was beautiful and cozy on a rainy fall night, and the staff were so kind. We ordered the lobster Mac, steak and crab cakes. The portions were large and the amount of meat in the Mac and the crab cakes was generous. Everything came out in a timely fashion and the staff was very kind When we first got there our table wasn't quite ready .although we only waited two minutes they were so apologetic and kind, they gave us dessert for free which was also so delicious - peanut butter pie and chocolate mousse Great spot! Definitely recommend for anyone stopping through town

Gilley's Diner

Fast food restaurant
Gilley's Diner is a nostalgic eatery located in downtown Portsmouth, housed in an original 1940s Worcester diner car. The cozy interior features only eight small stools, giving it an intimate atmosphere. Despite its size, the menu offers classic American fare such as burgers, hot dogs, and fries.
Gilley’s Diner in Portsmouth, NH, is a hidden gem for anyone looking for classic diner food in a charming, nostalgic setting. My wife and I stopped by for a quick bite and were impressed by the experience. She ordered a hot dog with fries, and I opted for a double cheeseburger with fries. Both were served within 5 minutes, hot, fresh, and full of flavor. Despite the small menu, the food is top-notch for diner fare, and the friendly service adds to the experience. The diner itself is small and quaint, with only six seats, but the charm of this old food truck-turned-diner more than makes up for it. The service was fantastic—there's only one person running the place, and she handled everything seamlessly. If I lived in the area, I'd be here at least once a month. Highly recommend for anyone craving a quick, delicious meal in a cozy, old-school diner atmosphere.

Much larger portion than shown, we were starving! The person who runs the place is super nice and is knowledgeable about Gillys! The atmosphere is wonderful. Established in 1912 and is super yummy and affordable!

Incredible historic burger joint. Also a classic for hot dogs, but IMO the burger (double cheeseburger with everything in my case) is the thing to get! Absolutely worth the stop even if you’re passing through town. Bit of a wait on the Thursday afternoon we went, but considering there was only one member of staff in there, it was impressive being able to juggle taking orders, cook, and serving as well.

I arrived as they were closing ! They had run out of bread for 3 people, so we suggested hamburger buns= Somehow, when I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, they found the last 2 pieces of Bread for me ! ❤️ the 2 lady workers there are phenomenal 👏 🙌
Lisette N — Google review
Found this place on google. Took us about 25 minutes to get here we walked in and right away the lady that was there was complaining! Are hot dog buns were not even grilled she was to busy talking over everyone instead of taking the correct order! How do you mess up a hot dog and fries! The whole time we were waiting for food to come up and eat she was complaining on how disrespectful the new owners are and she isn’t dealing with it! After we got are food she said she was going to close the place early cause they dont pay her enough to work on Mondays! So she went out and put a note on door that said closing at 6 pm .Just very unprofessional uncomfortable to be there!! My hot dog which wasn’t even made correctly cheese fries and a can of Pepsi $15.00

This small 8 stool diner is absolutely amazing! My husband and I ate late night (our first time ever) and was greeted by Arlene with a smile who then took our order and then cooked it! We had double cheese burgers add bacon with “everything” , Poutine (was super cheesy and delicious without being soggy) and the chili cheese fries (full of flavor!). Really enjoyed the history and overall vibe of the place. Will definitely be back to check out with our kids :) Picnic Table’s are set outside when the weather gets nice adding more room for service. Take out available but can not call ahead and no delivery services which is understandable for place this size.

Taco restaurant
Barrio is a trendy and casual taco chain that offers both signature and customizable tacos, as well as a variety of cocktails. The ordering process involves using Scantron slips, adding a fun twist to the dining experience. The menu features an array of taco options, including the unique green goddess tortilla filled with queso and guac. Additionally, patrons can enjoy an extensive selection of margaritas with flavors like strawberry-pear and mango-thyme, available in flight options for mixing and matching.
Fun bar style atmosphere. Kitchen is open late. The food was delicious. Got the nachos which we great! Enjoyed the vibe and the food after seeing a show that got out late. Save this for a late night stop!

Fun atmosphere, fantastic service, the food leaves a lot to be desired, but you are probably not going here for the food, this is a great place for drinks and atmosphere. The menu is a bit confusing but it’s nice you can make your own taco creations. I decided to go with the El Pastor bowl and some queso. Not sure I would go back but if you are visiting Portsmouth looking for a fun place to hang out, I would recommend a visit.

Very cool atmosphere - the staff was great and our waitress was awesome. We went with 3 hungry college kids and everyone was happy and full when we left. The make your own option for tacos was great! The chicken bacon ranch bowl was delish! Would definitely go there again!

I’ve been to Barrio several times and always make a point to stop by when in Portsmouth. The build-your-own menu is a fun, creative way to mix unique flavors, and the Margarita Perfecto was true to its name. I had four tacos with a variety of ingredients—flavorful as always—but this time they arrived a bit cold. The chilled toppings and sauces likely contributed, and warmer tortillas could’ve helped balance the temperature. I also found that the Green Goddess, Bombshell, and Stoner tortilla options had less filling than usual between the shells. While this wasn’t my best visit, Barrio typically delivers a great experience, and I’ll definitely be back.

Proteins were cold, really cold. 1/3 of my order was wrong. Service was weirdly bad (not crowded- but I saw another single elderly woman waiting for any help at all) . I stopped counting at 7 server passes by adjacent tables, despite me waving and saying excuse me. I arrived, stood at the check in, waited 5 minutes, entered the place, no one noticed me and my two dogs. I sat on the patio, 3 server passes, gave up. Went to the bar with my order, was sent to the patio. It was really weird. Train servers to scan at least the adjacent tables. Ultimately my server was pleasant, if unavailable. Finally, a nice guy brought my pups water. Over all, a fail. I can't recommend anyone go there. For the record, I generally leave good reviews. Nice location though. Don't use their lot, it's $20. Street parking is $4.

Always loved barrio because of the unique menu to create your own tacos but came today and both me and my husband’s tacos were so noticeably small.. just barely filled. And the stoner taco which lists it comes with queso (and bacon) didn’t have queso. They didn’t add the Carolina reaper sauce I was excited for. We were disappointed.

I used Barrios Haverhill to cater our Labor Day party and they knocked it out of the park!! So good they deserve a review at the other locations! Food was amazing! From the initial ordering to delivery and everything between the staff absolutely went above and beyond to make sure this part of our party was seamless. Professionalism and genuine care is a rare treat these days. Thank you Barrios!!
Brian O — Google review
I’d give Barrio a 3.5. Positives: I love that they’re open late, hard to find in NH. They have so many options, especially for the build your own tacos which makes for a unique experience and the biggest reason why I give this place stars—I liked being able to build three totally unique tacos just how I wanted. The bacon jam guacamole was very good and a large portion, and came with free salsa which was also very tasty. They also have a very large drink selection and their cocktails looked good. Negatives: PRICE. This place is very expensive for what it is. My partner and I each got dinner, shared the guac, and ordered 3 drinks total and our total was $100. The tacos were good but kind of skimpy on filling. We got a side of black beans for $1.50 and the size was laughable, picture a little cup you use for ketchup!!!!! One of our tacos was forgotten and then took a while to finally get it. This certainly is not a Mexican restaurant, if that’s what you’re looking for go elsewhere (at least your meal will come with a side of rice and beans there). But if you’re looking for a unique experience and like to handpick your ingredients then I suggest trying it but keeping in mind how much you’ll spend.
