Penn State Berkey Creamery, established in 1865, is a historic creamery that produces top-quality dairy products using a science-based process. It offers hand-churned ice cream and sherbets to both students and the public. The creamery has over 150 years of expertise and is renowned for its rich history of dairy research and production. Visitors are encouraged to check hours and availability before visiting.
I recently visited Berkey Creamery during my niece’s graduation weekend at Penn State, and it was just as amazing as I remembered. This was my third time stopping by, and it never disappoints. I had the peach flavor, and it was absolutely delicious—creamy, fresh, and full of flavor. Other members of our group tried different flavors and loved theirs as well. The atmosphere has that fun, cool college-town vibe, and it’s always buzzing with energy. If you’re ever near the Penn State campus and in the mood for some seriously good ice cream, Berkey Creamery is a must-visit spot.

The Penn State Creamery is a must visit. I had the Peachy Paterno and loved the real chunks of fresh peaches in every bite. The rest of the family raved about the Chocolate Marshmallow and the Peanut Butter Swirl. Both were rich, creamy, and full of flavor. If you are in Happy Valley, make this a definite stop. You will not regret it.

An institute. Renowned for the Agriculture School's proud 100+++ year ice cream making and education history. Highly recommend doing one of the frozen dessert short courses of you have the time and means. The ice cream itself is very good of course, flavour and texture caters well to the US palate. Very large serves, only one flavour allowed in a cup/cone but you can try before you buy. Happy happy joy joy, death by chocolate are my solid favourites. Fresh dipped is always best, but you can also order the tubs to be delivered to you.
S G — Google review
Delicious ice cream that is worth the usually long line! Although a tad pricey, they give you a very generous amount. The ice cream is not too melty, which I appreciate! Their flavors are always delicious; I enjoyed the Happy Happy Joy Joy flavor last time. I also love their death by chocolate, arboretum breeze, and peanut butter twist. I highly recommend stopping!

The Creamery at the University of Pennsylvania is a student-run ice cream shop located right on campus, known for serving locally sourced, small-batch flavors. It’s part of Penn’s School of Veterinary Medicine and originally launched as a way to highlight agricultural innovation and dairy science. The project gives students hands-on experience running a real food business, from production to marketing. Everything is made in-house, with seasonal flavors and rotating classics that reflect both quality and creativity. I had the mint chocolate chip—it was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. Plus - it hit the spot on a hot day!

Everyone says that this place is THE place to go at Penn state and they were right. The ice cream is amazing. If you’re ever in Penn state, definitely give this a try. Ice cream is relatively cheap too
Sarah C — Google review
Figuring out the flow of things was a challenge but we figured it out. The staff was rough around the edges but the ice cream was so decadent and creamy. I have been thinking about the strawberry cheesecake ice cream since I left. Bring a cooler as they have ice cream , milk, and cheese prepackaged to take home.
Happy G — Google review
I have had the ice cream at other shops that scoop it and thought it was good but I had always wanted to stop at the main creamery. It was good but a huge disappointment. You can only order a $6 double scoop whether in a cone or cup. And - you can mix the scoops. You can only order the 2 scoops of one flavor. I wouldn't waste my time and paid parking to go again. I will find a more customer oriented shop that allows ordering 2 scoop of 2 different flavors. Like I said a HUGE disappointment. I threw most of my $6 cup away.

Pegula Ice Arena is a cutting-edge facility that serves as the home for the Penn State Nittany Lions ice hockey teams. It offers an electrifying atmosphere for fans to enjoy collegiate hockey games, and also hosts public skating sessions, figure skating, and ice hockey leagues. The arena features a community rink where visitors can rent skates and enjoy skating with friends or family. With comfortable seating and a great view of the action, it's a fantastic place to watch hockey games.
Amazing hockey venue. I love how open the whole space feels, every seat has an unobstructed view. Highly recommend going to at least one hockey game!

I took a big group here for family skate night, and they accommodated us very well and with a good attitude. We all had such a great experience. It was busy but not uncomfortably crowded. There were all levels of people on the ice supporting each other or teaching each other how to skate or do tricks. Wish we could've been there longer! We had a blast and will definitely go back on discount nights!
Christina B — Google review
Really cool facility with a great customer base. Student section is always fire. Such a friendly & supportive crowd (if you’re rooting for Penn State) / they’ll turn on you like a rabid dog if you’re not. The food selections for the VIP dinners aren’t worth the hype or extra money - but seating in VIP is perfect! Staff is always smiling and helpful - lighting great, bathroom facilities clean and handicap accessible. Parking is really good too.

Petulant ice arena is greatest atmosphere for college hockey I’ve ever been too.

Always enjoy coming here for Penn State Hockey games. It holds a decent amount of people with plenty of parking in the area. Concession foods are a little pricey but usually pretty good. There is a subway in there as well if you don’t want anything from the concession stands. Has a great location since it’s right next to the Bryce Jordan Center and Beaver Stadium.

Great place for college hockey. Great atmosphere. Also had a sheet of ice for public use. Always have a good time here.

A fine facility. Food pricing was like major sports towns but seating costs were quite reasonable.
Gary T — Google review
Great atmosphere for hockey games. Food is "stadium prices," but not over-the-top expensive, and better than average options to choose from, including sausage, cheesesteaks, and fresh donuts. Dress warm - it is a room full of ice. 😬

The Bryce Jordan Center stands as a vibrant hub for both sports and entertainment in Happy Valley, serving as the home court for Penn State's basketball teams. This dynamic venue is not just about thrilling basketball games; it also hosts an array of major concerts, family shows, and special events that draw crowds from near and far. Whether you're there to cheer on the Nittany Lions or enjoy a performance by a renowned artist, the Bryce Jordan Center promises an unforgettable experience.
Very clean , well planned and very positive staff members at work

I visited the Bryce Jordan center for the Winter jam event. The event went great. We had no problems with seating or any of the workers. Everyone did their job well and was pleasant. The only issue was with the parking. They diverted us to another area by the baseball field due to the size of our vans. However, we saw multiple Vans parked in the regular parking. Go figure.
Greg W — Google review
Excellent venue for concerts. Had an amazing time. Seats were great, staff was super friendly, and everything was reasonably priced.
Roger W — Google review
In addition to NCAA Men's College Basketball events, I have also attended 2 concert events at the Bryce Jordan Center in Happy Valley State College Pennsylvania. While I must say that the venue was not constructed with the type of acoustic one would expect from a venue that has hosted an extraordinary number of concerts and musical performances but it's a location in which I have always felt at home watching Big Ten Conference Basketball. I was also extremely fortunate to be in attendance for the only mainstream nationally televised and recognized professional mixed martial arts event in the building's history since opening its doors in the mid 1990's and I truly wish the likes of the company formerly known as Belator, the Pacific Fight League, or the UFC would consider the BJC as being worthy of another great live fight card.

Went to see Shinedown, 3 Days Grace, and From Ashes to New here. Totally awesome show from a big act like Shinedown and I'm glad they were able to bring a large act this close to me (1.5 hrs). My 10 year old loved it as well. Parking was close and traffic flow was good getting out.
Zach G — Google review
Absolutely stunning building! Large open arena with lots of seating and ground floor options. Security was tight which I personally liked. Lots of room to move around throughout the venue. They had lots of food, drink and snack options. Beers were priced at $10-12 I believe. Food was moderately priced! We grabbed tickets for the Killers/Smiths event. It was righteous! Acoustics were loud and bassy! Nice audio.

I went here for an aew wrestling show it was so cool, the light were amazing, fireworks as well. I definitely will return, placed gets super busy in this area due to it being a college town, parking is 20$ per car.
Cassidi H — Google review
I had an amazing time at the concert here but the worker that was to help me find my seat was no help at all… I came here recently for Travis Scott’s highly anticipated Circus Maximus tour. The lady that was to help me find my seat was no help at all and was very rude. She was at section 104 so beware! Other than that I recommend the BJC to anyone!

If you're on the hunt for textbooks, school supplies, or even some stylish Penn State apparel, look no further than the Student Book Store. This expansive shop spans three floors and offers a treasure trove of items—from essential textbooks to unique souvenirs like mugs and foam fingers. The store is not only well-stocked but also known for its competitive prices that often beat those at nearby retailers.
Seventeen of us were at Penn State for a group reunion. We visited the Student Book Store and I was surprised that most of the merchandise was priced lower than I expected them to be. The store personnel were friendly and kept the store in great order. If you're ever in State College, PA, stop in. I'm glad we did.

The Tavern is a charming colonial-style restaurant located in downtown State College, offering an intimate dining experience with sidewalk seating. It's a popular spot for traditional comfort food such as seafood, steak, and pasta. Visitors can enjoy dishes like the Tavern crab cake sandwich and bacon cheddar burger for lunch. The venue boasts both indoor and outdoor seating, providing a beautiful setting for special occasions or casual dining. While the prices may be on the higher side, the quality of food and service justifies it.
Can't wait to come back here, it's got a lot of history I'd like to take in. The food was delicious. I ordered the pub burger medium. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a bit of a higher level sit down dinner in downtown State College.

Excellent Experience my boyfriend and I visited here to celebrate my birthday this evening. Staff was very friendly, Adam Did a great job, very attentive took care of us promptly. Drinks were perfect, Rolls incredible, bacon wrapped scallops melted in our mouths. Both the pork shank and bolognese were incredible. will 100% spend the penny for the incredible service and food
Jayla W — Google review
Overall underwhelming birthday meal at The Tavern. Made a reservation for 2 about an hour ahead of time (weeknight) & noted it was a birthday celebration. Started with Surf & Turf Eggrolls, cheese overpowered the flavor of the steak & shrimp, and $20 for 2 egg rolls sliced into 4 pieces total seems a little steep. Entrees were the linguine alla vongole— pleasantly surprising amount of clams included, however the white wine garlic butter sauce left a lot to be desired. A fine dish, but certainly not wowed by the flavor profile. My date ordered the burger (not a picky eater but their offerings are not really his style) and paid $2 extra to have what appeared to be a 1/2 slice of cheese on a $22 burger (chips included as side). Server was kind but not the most attentive. Worked in the service industry in numerous settings and expected better service & more wow factor flavors for a $75 meal for two pre-tip (no alcohol— 1 app + 2 entrees). Did not ask about any birthday dessert offerings & server did not mention anything, which either they don’t do anything special or it was not communicated by the host to the server. We save nice dinners out for special occasions in our household, we could afford to go out more but choose to eat healthy & cook at home and unfortunately The Tavern will not be on the top of the list to return to any time soon. The last time I went to the Tavern was Jan earlier this year (celebrating a friend’s bday) & we were seated in a semi-private feeling alcove with a large party (10-12) that was extremely loud. Another 2 top was seated behind us and they immediately asked to be seated elsewhere. It felt like our server forgot about us tucked away in that area and again, for the claims to be one of the nicer restaurants in town, expected more of the food & the service during that visit too.

Tim M — Google review
Wow, great venue, great food, great service! We enjoyed a wonderful anniversary dinner. Attentive service, delicious food, and the libations were pleasant. Enjoyed the Lobster Cobb salad, so much of a feast within the salad it was hard to finish and Hubby had steak added to his salad, special note, they include an entire steak, not just a few stingy slices of steak like many restaurants. Both salads were so good. The venue is beautiful with indoor and outdoor seating. Definitely worth a visit!!
Lisa D — Google review
The food was excellent and our waiter was amazing! It's a little pricey but expected for the quality of the food. We had a group of 9 and shared appetizers, and each had a dinner. My daughter was excited there was steak on the kids menu, and she ate the 6 oz beauty cooked to medium rare perfection! Bon Appétit! Too full for dessert, unfortunately!

Chipotle Mexican Grill is a beloved fast-food chain that specializes in customizable Mexican cuisine, offering an array of options like burritos, tacos, and bowls. Despite the occasional crowded atmosphere and higher prices—especially for guacamole—the allure of a hearty burrito bowl keeps patrons coming back. The consistent quality of their food is undeniable; each visit promises a satisfying meal crafted from your choice of fresh ingredients including meats, beans, rice, salsas, and cheese all wrapped in a large tortilla.
From the second you step in it smells amazing, you can tell it’s a popular place, thought there were some opens tables for lunch. The staff were really nice, efficient and gracious with their service. The chicken is great!
Jenn G — Google review
Walked in to find my original pickup order had been stolen and needed it remade. They remade my order and I have to say this is the worst chipotle bowl I’ve ever gotten. Very disappointed as it has only about 2 pieces of chicken and a few black beans. Not worth it. Ordering in person is always the best way to go.
R V — Google review
This location was out of several items and did not explain before ordering and no substitute items suggested. There was very little chicken, absolutely no fajita veggies or veggies at all, and our bowls were woefully small despite trying to fill them up with what was available. It was the middle of the day, only 2 other customers besides me, and I'm just not sure what happened. Additionally, I ordered guacamole on my veggie (without veggies) bowl and did not receive any. Should've gotten a better angle on the photo, but in my hometown a Chipotle bowl is full and brimming over as you open the lid. This was not anything close. They still charged for chips and a tortilla which were ordered in desperation to think of things that would help fill up hungry college kids moving in.
Mia A — Google review
Asked for a little more chicken because I received the smallest scoop I have ever seen (and I go to other chipotles a lot), and then a different employee jumped in and replied that they’d given me a scoop so they’d charge me if I would like more. Would definitely recommend trying a different location before this one. Pics are not great but are of what is supposedly “double chicken”.
Thomas — Google review
Past 3 times we've ordered to go has been disappointing. They barely put any food in their bowls and its not even filling.
Laurann B — Google review
This Chipotle, located near Penn State University, was one of the best I have ever visited and here is why. The location is spacious and eve though there was a long line it did go fast. We ordered two chicken burritos and the worker who adds the sour cream and cheese was over the top friendly even asking how our day was. The chicken in the chicken burrito was the tastiest I have ever had. Maybe it had more seasoning, but, whoever ever cooked it made it perfect 👍🏼. The only downfall of this location was the stale chips. Other than that, I highly recommend it and well worth the wait next time you are visiting Penn State.
Dan P — Google review
Do not come here late!! Paid full price for pan scraping and bad attitudes might be hard to tell from the pic buts that’s a 1/4 cup of guac maybe and barely any chicken and a few sprigs of lettuce. Came in at 10:20 thought they were open until 11 guess the door ain’t locked but they ain’t making more food. They had half the trays in the back so if I didn’t ask off memory I didn’t get it notice no beans.
Kennedy K — Google review
I never take the time out of my day to leave food reviews, but this was just disrespectful they did me so dirty. When I order Chipotle, I expect a high-quality meal like always, not for my balls to be busted. I opened the lid and there bestowed the saddest excuse for a burrito bowl I've ever gotten in my life. Not even halfway full! I would leave 0 stars if I could. I want a refund smh.

We arrived just a bit after 11 to find that the door was still locked and the cashier was leaning over the counter - looked like she was on her phone. After killing time we returned, this time it was open. The blonde cashier girl stood behind the register and STARED at us. No hello, no welcome, nothing. We ordered and she had a monotone voice and made me feel like we were inconveniencing her by being a patron. We were not asked what size of side we wanted and her unwelcoming attitude made it clear that she hates doing her job and doesn’t want to even fake a pleasant demeanour with the customers. After paying and upon leaving she didn’t not thank us or give us a reason to want to come back. I do have to say, the cook brought our food to our table and he was very friendly and nice. I think they should be swapped around and have the cook in the front and the girl in the back so customers don’t have such a terrible experience. I watched a couple come in to pick up a takeout order and they said thank you to her and she did not even respond or speak to them. What makes me even angrier is that the food was REALLY good but I would hesitate to return because of that girls attitude. The only way I’d be a patron again is if I see she isn’t there. I mean, I’d be more than happy to take her job since she hates it so much.

Ordering is definitely not worth it. The food is mediocre but some what better in comparison to the other renditions of cheese steaks that State College has to offer. Bottom line the food is average but the service is definitely not worth the money. In my most recent experience of giving Bradley's another shot, I was told a fourth five minute wait time and did not get my order of a single cheese steak and twenty Oz coke for two hours and by this time my food was cold and soda room temperature. I'm sorry but not sorry definitely not worth the money.
Xavier P — Google review
I ordered mozzarella sticks. THIRTY FIVE minutes later I went up to the counter to make sure my order wasn't forgotten. The lady at the counter looked in the kitchen and said my order is almost ready, and that the wait is because it's busy. The thing is, i was watching people who arrived 15 minutes after I ordered get their food. Sure it was busy, but this service was insulting. It wasn't until FIFTY FIVE minutes after my order did an employee ask why I was waiting so long, finally after over an hour did I get my mozzarella sticks, which btw are a SIDE. I was not compensated for my time and the staff was apathetic. I would suggest this place to nobody.
Joseph K — Google review
Food was spot on, definitely recommend the Bradley's special for nothing other than the sauce. You should expect a meal to run $10 to $12. The staff I dealt with wasn't the most friendly, but nothing to take signficant note of. If you are on the fence between this and another sub shop in the area, go here it's not going to disappoint. 4 stars Edit: Reduced to 2, I ordered the special again but order was messed up and I received a buffalo chicken cheesesteak. While it was OK it wasn't what I ordered. I was disappointed mainly because I was one of only 3 people inside waiting for take out.

The cheese steaks we're good but not the best I've ever had. We also ordered fries with cheese. While the fries were good, the cheese was not the best. It seemed like some kind of cheese spread that was in globs on the fries. It had a consistency that wasn't like anything I've ever had before on cheese fries.
Jeremy A — Google review
A very good cheesesteak, cooked fresh to order and with free alterations to the toppings. I had beef, hot and sweet peppers, red sauce, and 'cheese'. I don't know what cheese I got because I wasn't asked what I wanted, but whatever the house brand is is good. The bond was soft and fresh but therein lies the only problem: The Cheesesteak soaked into the bread and immediately turned it into a slimy mess. It did not detract from the Flavor which was really very good but it did make eating it rather messy

Chinese restaurant
Panda Express is a popular fast-food chain known for its Chinese cuisine, offering both traditional and health-conscious options. Customers appreciate the hot, fresh, and filling meals served with friendly service. The restaurant's ambiance is vibrant and the decor adds to the dining experience. Despite some feedback about loudness and initial confusion with ordering, many patrons praise the delicious food and generous portion sizes at reasonable prices.
Came here twice during homecoming weekend. Between the game and shopping, I knew I could get a guaranteed yummy meal. Food was hot and made fresh with filling portion sizes. Everyone working there was nice and friendly, behind the counter and at the register. Definitely a safe choice for a good meal!

$9 with tax for a small bowl of dry noodles and a scoop of chicken. (pic is partially eaten). price should be adjusted because this is just not it man.

It’s Okish store for getting food. The meat tasted ok but the 1 star was given due to the reason of we were served with partially cooked rice!. The one in the pic was cooked ok but the other bundle we got is with partially cooked (we were served in a hurry to serve the crowd )

I got this crispy almond chicken breast, and I am so embarrassed with this 5 pieces… The rice is not fully cooked. It’s like pebbles. Too hard to chew and even the sauce is not fully mixed. The price is unreasonable for this amount.

The food is good. But they use a lot of sugar in the food i think. Anyway, it can be tried.

I ordered plant-based orange chicken and didn't realize I ate actual chicken meat until half way through. Please pay attention, these things can not only really emotionally upset someone but cause actual physical pain, discomfort and sickness.

Jimmy John's is a fast-food chain that specializes in sub and club sandwiches. They also offer their signature potato chips. When you join their Freaky Fast Rewards program, you can receive a complimentary sandwich after your initial purchase. In addition, you will receive regular notifications about special offers and have the opportunity to earn points towards more free food. The unwich option, which is a lettuce wrap instead of bread, is highly recommended as it is both delicious and satisfying for those craving a hoagie.
First time here. I got an unwich which was absolutely delicious and satisfied my hoagie craving lol. My kids also enjoyed it and asked that we go back sometime. Staff was very friendly as well.

Food is great but they do not honor their posted business hours. I have stopped numerous times during the business hours posted on their doors and the doors were locked with no notice. Today we went at 3pm when business hours are posted open until 5pm and they were closed. My wife stopped once and they were again closing early but left her order. Their reasoning was they had “already made the money they needed to make” that day. Horrible management of such a great place to eat. HONOR YOUR BUSINESS HOURS!!
Bill Z — Google review
It was a Penn State football weekend (vs Indiana)...and 3 of us walked in post-game & intended to order. But Jimmy John's was in the process of closing due to it being a high volume day where they essentially were out of rolls. We understood, thanked him & were about to be on out way when he did find one loaf. I think because he felt we were so nice (I'm sure they encounter their share of entitled college kids) he offered to split the loaf 3 ways to help us out. Then, because the sandwiches were non-standard he wouldn't charge us...and wouldn't even take a tip from us. We go to all the games and we assured him we'd be back MANY times due to his excellent customer service and for just being a generally nice young man. He didn't ask for this Google review and my only regret is that I didn't jot down his name to personally, publicly recognize him. He was obviously the shift lead and perhaps even the shift manager. Whoever owns this franchise location should feel proud to have an employee like this.
Pete T — Google review
The staff during the week is consistently rude and curt with me when I try to be nice while ordering. That being said, the food is made fast and is usually very good.
Trevor C — Google review
As always, the sandwich was delicious. The customer service, when I called, was great but they did not offer a way to rectify the problem. Unfortunately they are only have one driver so delivery times are not guaranteed, my sandwich was 60 minutes late and I did not finish my lunch before I started work again in the afternoon. I recommend that if you order, you pick up. Also, I customized my sandwich and it was not customized. :(
Shawn S — Google review
After driving 8 hours, I walk in to find the employees just chilling with buddies. The young man who took my order had to remove his ear buds and stop his music before taking my order. Unprofessional but ok. Then the other young man who made my sandwich messed it up. It was not busy, my friend and I were the only customers at the time and he took no time to read my order, he just made what he wanted. I told him that that wasnt what I ordered, And as opposed to making me a fresh sandwich with no food particles from the mistake he just removed the unwanted food and handed the over. To come in to see employees wearing sweats, not caring about customer service or caring about what I paid for is pretty pathetic. That’s not what I’ve come to expect it from Jimmy John’s, I expect better professionalism then that.
Lisa N — Google review
Wow. Corporate - you better check on this location. 11:30am Saturday, In-store order, just one sub, took 25 mins to make and then it was wrong. Only 3 orders ahead of mine. Two 20yr olds working. Kid with messy hair used the F-bomb in nearly every sentence as he complained whole time about someone not showing up, not wanting to be there, something about a girl calling him - bizarre! Store conditions were awful, very sticky floor, dried out food bits all over floor behind counter, on deli slicer, etc, no ice in soda fountain. I was watching for rats but surprised I didn't see any! My food was already paid for or I would have left. What happened to "freaky fast"? Very disappointed. I love JJ's but I'll never go back to this location.
Jen L — Google review
The sub was great, no complaints in that department. But with 3 employees and NO other customers in the store, the tables should have NOT been sticky. It was so gross, I ate as fast as I could and got out of there. Again good subs, nasty dining area.

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Beaver Stadium, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to The Arboretum at Penn State. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Beaver Stadium, the iconic home of Penn State's Nittany Lions, is a must-visit destination for any sports enthusiast. With an impressive seating capacity of over 107,000, it stands as one of the largest stadiums globally and offers an exhilarating atmosphere during football season. Fans from all walks of life—alumni, students, and locals—unite to cheer on their team in a vibrant display of school spirit. The stadium is named after James A.
Very clean stadium. It's an awesome and electric college football atmosphere. The PSU fans are so passionate. Great views regardless of where you're sitting. You will have a great experience at the game even if you don't root for Penn State.
Joey H — Google review
All I can say is WOW!! The atmosphere, the size, the fans, the setting.....it all made for an amazing first time in Happy Valley, at a football game! Watching an entire crowd of over 100,000 people, chant and roar and love on each other, was just amazing! I knew it would be fun, but I wasn't prepared to fall in love with everything about the stadium and PSU.
Amy R — Google review
This is an incredible place to watch a Penn State football game. There is a deafening roar of a jam packed crowd of over 100k passionate Penn State fans cheering on each and every exciting play. At halftime, Penn State features one of the best marching bands in the nation adding to the whole experience. The stadium is in process of being refurbished and now features a modern high def scoreboard. Highly recommend experiencing a game at this iconic venue.
Richard F — Google review
Going to a Pennstate football game is an amazing experience. We had a great time and everyone was awesome. Like most college or NFL football games, you can expect high prices for food and drinks. You can also expect long lines at the food and drinks. I wish the bleachers were more like the Eagles stadium but it is what it is. In the 3rd quarter, we got a little lost coming down to the bottom of the stadium as our seats were high up. We didn't leave the stadium but we were close to the exits. However, we were stopped and excused of trying to re-enter after leaving. They said we were not allowed back in but we literally just walked off the stairs after coming down from our seats. The person was completely rude and refused to listen to what we were saying even though we just passed 2 security guards on the stairs. It has me second guessing whether I want to attend another game. We were there for my daughter who was being honored on the field. She attends an affiliate college. I grew up watching Pennstate, my entire family are fans, but I find it embarrassing to be treated that way and don't care to have that experience again. Especially with my autistic son attending who absolutely loves Pennstate.

Not technically a PSU fan but have been to a few games at beaver stadium. Always had a good time and fans were always respectful to me for not being a fan, for most part (you always have those couple of idiots). I highly recommend you go to at least one game at night as it a experience you can't get at most stadiums, college or nfl.
Phathead G — Google review
Great atmosphere, people are very friendly and helpful. First time being in State College, drove from South Carolina, walked around campus and asked questions of several students and they were friendly, helpful and informative.
Todd U — Google review
As a visiting fan during a Whiteout, the atmosphere is unmatched to any other stadium i have traveled to. The fans tailgating before were super accepting, I think I was offered over a dozen hotdogs/burgers before the game, cheers with probably 30-40 people about having a good game, and the intensity In the stadium itself is great. So jealous of the "We Are Penn State" chant, Mo Bamba, your band, the amount of people in the stadium, everything. Everything EXCEPT the hills... Parked in Lot 36, and that first hill down is brutal on the knees.

Sports bar

Champs Downtown is a casual two-level sports bar located on Allen Street, offering a wide selection of draft beers and pub grub. The venue features ample seating, making it suitable for larger groups and families with older children. With numerous TV screens, it's an ideal spot to watch sports without overwhelming noise. While some may notice residual odors from the previous night during daytime visits, the overall experience is positive.
A cool sports bar to hangout and catch up with friends. Multiple games available to have fun with. There is a restaurant on the ground floor and sports bar in the basement. Ambience is nice for a club. Variety in the drinks menu. Since its in a small college town, expect typical student experience at times.
Gulshan K — Google review
Champs is a statement in State College. This location gets busy but it's quite large. The 360 bar has a lot of seats and, besides the first floor, there is an elevated "half floor" and downstairs floor with pool tables and other fun stuff. They card at the entrance. The times we've been here we sat at the tables and at the bar and service was fast and the servers and bartenders were very very nice. They have a large selection of beers and they are cheap; you can get the 16 or 20 oz and take out crowlers. Food is good and the portions are huge. Everything you'd want from a sports bar although it gets very busy!

I got kicked out for no reason? Of course a “drunk” person wouldn’t be coherent enough to review, but I got escorted out for wanting to use the bathroom? I’m so confused, no one would explain and I am a person of color. I feel like a problematic person wouldVe proved a reason to get kicked out but genuinely i ordered a slice of pizza and am so confused? Not a good look honestly. There’s nothing I did wrong tonight.

The service here was top notch. We had a large party and our server was personable on time and had a great vibe, we really felt taken care of by her and the food was made quickly and they let us use the space for a long time.
Grant D — Google review
Usually decent but got kicked out after using the bathroom and not given any reason at all! Not worth spending money here. The staff sucks, atmosphere is terrible, drinks are mediocre, and bouncers are bored enough to make problems for no reason. Go to somewhere better that won’t kick you out for no reason, I hope they remedy this and I believe they need a major staff revitalization. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!

I am gluten free and all I asked was can u just give me no roll on a chicken cheesesteak and they wouldn’t. Said no modifications on anything on game day. I said can’t u just give me no roll and answer was no. Cheeseburger no also no. Just give me no roll. I’m actually saving u money. I will never eat here again and I think that is a real terrible idea of what a modification is. I only asked for no roll.

UPDATED on April 10, 2025 State College Boys, aka S.C. Boys, Inc.'s Jeff Chen, who usually works the door - LineLeap on the weekends, got his feelings hurt. I met him in July 2017, and he usually does not allow me to skip the line. I'm OK with that. On September 16, 2023, I waited in line, got a seat at the bar, and ordered an adult beverage because I was meeting a friend there for the Colorado vs. Colorado State football game. I mentioned to the nineteen-year-old bartender that the turnover was high at the sports bar. I asked if the turnover was due to Jeff Chen. Quote: She said that people who work there cannot handle it. She said it was too much for them. In leading up to why I asked the question, previous employees told me Jeff was challenging to work for, so I mentioned his name. Five minutes later, the bartender told Jeff what I said, and he approached me extremely mad. He told me, what if he went to my job and said I wasn't nice? I'm cordial at my job with customers and colleagues. It appeared I hurt Uncle Chen's feelings, but it was based on hearsay, so I am unsure what the bartender told him. Jeff wanted the names of former employees, and I was not going to give him the names of the numerous employees who have spoken badly about him and his management style. It's a good thing it's a college bar, so the kids are just trying to make a buck, and then they graduate. Anyway, I was not disruptive and peacefully having a drink. I decided to leave and am now banned from the business, and that's ok. Many others, including myself, are prohibited from participating in Uncle Chen's Champs in State College, PA, home of Penn State Football. Being banned at Champs is equivalent to being banned from Russia. Don't go there! NOTE: Mr. Jeff Chen at 139 S. Allen Street in State College, Pennsylvania: It is against the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act to deny entry due to one's race, religion, gender, or disability. Please be advised.

I had a terrible experience at this place. I paid $10 to get in and was just dancing with my friend when two bouncers a female and a male suddenly told me to leave within 5 minutes of entering the club. I wasnt talking to anyone or interacting with anyone except talking and dancing with my friend. I politely asked several times why I was being kicked out, but all they said was “no reason” and “I don’t want to argue with you.” The staff were unfriendly, dismissive, and completely uncommunicative. For INTERNATIONAL STDUENTS or anyone new, I would strongly recommend avoiding this place. They take your money and then treat you with zero respect. The behavior I experienced felt borderline discriminatory.

Nice surprises peppered throughout this campus art gallery. The centerpiece being the Chihuly adorned stairs. Many things to look at and artwork to experience. Recommend for all ages. Family friendly. Fun for little ones but plenty of intrigue for all creative minds. Nice little gift shop in lobby with helpful staff and great selection of items.

Incredible Art collection. Some of the paintings are absolutely stunning. People are so talented. I really appreciated the historical pieces. Art from 618?! That is incredible!! They have an interactive sensory section for children and it was very nice! Many thanks to the donors who made this possible. The building and architecture is beautiful!

I really enjoyed the Re/Collecting the Andes exhibit at the Palmer Art Museum. The soft lighting made the colorful artifacts, like the woven bags and pottery, stand out beautifully. The exhibit was well-organized, guiding me through different parts of Andean culture step by step. One piece that caught my eye was a brightly woven coca leaf bag with amazing patterns. The way everything was displayed made it easy to connect with the history and stories of the Andes. It was a memorable and inspiring experience.

The Re/Collecting the Andes exhibit at the Palmer Museum in State College is a well thought out and executed exhibit within the museum. Dr Heaney and his students did a fantastic job at writing descriptions. As their big idea implies, they wanted to give back the power to the people of Andes culture and the exhibit was a great representation of this. The lighting in the room allowed for each description to be seen clearly. My personal favorite artifact was the coke bottle. My only complaint is that I did not love how silent the room was, and I would’ve liked cultural music.

The Arboretum at Penn State is a delightful university-managed destination that invites visitors to immerse themselves in its stunning woodlands, vibrant fields, and beautifully curated botanic gardens. This scenic spot is perfect for leisurely strolls, especially during the warmer months when the flora is in full bloom. Families can explore various themed sections such as the children's garden, mountain area, meadow space, and the newly established pollinator garden. The pavilion on the north side offers breathtaking views of this natural oasis.

Absolutely lovely Arboretum. So many beautiful flowers and plants to see throughout. We visited at the end of summer and some things are dying off as expected but still so many flowers are in bloom. Lots of beautiful butterflies and bees and the art installations throughout are super cool. Love the creativity in so many ways that they display and grow the plants. An added bonus is it’s Free! Can you believe it? I really enjoyed that it wasn’t overly crowded and you could mostly enjoy the different areas alone rather than moving with a heard of people. If I lived in State College I would be frequently visiting, even just to sit and read a book or take in the beauty of it all. The children’s area is an absolute gem and kids would love it. They seem to host a large variety of events and I do believe you can host a private party. Will definitely return. My Aunt who brought us there said it has a gorgeous fall display in another few weeks. Highly recommend!

Such a surprise! We came to the area for Penn’s Cave and stayed near the Arboretum. It is one of the loveliest gardens I’ve ever visited. In fall the colors of flowers and the changing leaves were spectacular, the place is immaculately kept, and the paths held a surprise around every bend.. I believed that Central Reservation would be similar to Local Whiskey due to its attachment, but it turned out to have a different ambiance. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing. The food and drinks are all fantastic. Each chair even has a unique picture of a famous person, which adds an interesting touch. I tried the special dish, trout over risotto, and it was outstanding. Moreover, the prices are reasonable considering the high quality of the food.
This loud, high energy restaurant with many sporting events shown on TVs throughout, is a fun place to enjoy a meal. I had the delicious Steak Frites which included an enormous ribeye cooked just the way I requested. Others in my party had the Bison Burger and the Lobster Mac and Cheese. These too were outstanding and plentiful. Service was very attentive despite the large crowd. Overall, a great meal with great service.
Richard F — Google review
First off, they don’t take reservations even though the place is called Central Reservations. We ordered a shareable lamb lollipop, but they only brought one plate. Since we were a big group, we asked for a few more plates. The first plate was clean, but the other three had crumbs on them and were dirty, which was pretty disappointing. Maybe it was just a one off, but still not great. Then when we checked out, there was an automatic 20% gratuity added without any heads-up. That didn’t sit well especially after being served dirty plates. I paid with a $50 bill in cash for a $47.8 total (gratuity included), and the waitress asked if I wanted my change. I said yes, but she only gave me $2 back without saying anything. She did not served us at all, no greeting, no thank you, no explanation about not having coins. It just left a bad impression overall. The food was mid.

Good cocktails, and relatively small but great seasonally rotating menu. The beet burger was a fantastic flavorful vegetarian option. Creme brulee was also tasty.

My wife and I have been trying to get to Central Res for about 6 years but the stars never seemed to line up. We decided to do dinner and a movie and after a short wait to order drinks we informed our waitress we were trying to catch a movie showing at 9. All our food came out perfectly timed and the presentation was on point. I’m not a big fan of pork belly but this had me convinced otherwise! The sangria was perfect and my burger was like a high class Five Guys. Portion sizes were perfect and we made the movie without rushing and 5 minutes to spare.

One of my favorite places in state college. The food and drinks are always great. My regular recommendations are: fried oysters, pork belly, fries, frog legs, live burger, duck ragu. Domino's Pizza is a popular delivery and carryout chain known for its wide variety of pizzas and other dishes. They offer special deals like the Mix & Match Deal, where customers can choose from a list of entrees, appetizers, and desserts at a great price. Some locations also have daily carryout deals for specific items. Customers appreciate the convenience of ordering through the Domino's app, which allows them to track their order in real time.
Got pick up last night due to the power being out at my place before I could cook dinner. They were absolutely flooded with orders but the woman manning the station to take things out the oven and box them up was an absolute machine and they all did wonderful with the power outage craziness! Sure there was a long wait for food, but that's due to nearly everyone having lost electricity and very few restaurants with power that remained open last night. Just felt like the staff from last night should be recognized for how well they were handling the crazy amount of orders! I don't normally tip for pick up orders but I absolutely left the staff a tip last night!

We found a little green worm in a tomato on our pizza, and when we called to tell them what we found, the manager kept saying “we don’t have worms on our pizza” over and over and then he just hung up on us. He said it like 9 or 10 times and was so rude. He kept interrupting us to tell us about the fact that they had no worms on their pizza. 0/10 experience, and also so gross!
Raina S — Google review
This is just like most other Domino’s franchises I’ve been to recently. The pizza is good, but not my favorite. The garlic knots are good, but not great. The service was very matter of fact. Nothing to note one way or another. If you love Domino’s, then you’ll love this place. If you don’t, you won’t.
Jeffrey H — Google review
Apparently the drivers just refuse to read delivery instructions, and the managers refuse to reprimand or even address the situation and instead blame it on the customer. Leaving food on a bucket instead of the ground (photo to show just how lazy/ignorant they chose to be) when the instructions are clear and capitalized shouldn’t be such a problem and yet whoever manned the phone today gave atrocious attitude. “Sorry to tell you that’s just the age we live in.” To quote what was said to me. Will be reporting continued awful behavior further up the ladder. Don’t spend your money here if you expect to be treated even half decently.
Our V — Google review
This s Domino's seems to do really well when they're busy. They don't seem to get too backed up and no matter how busy they are you can always get your pizza and under an hour, even on game nights. When it's not busy or pieces is ready in 10 to 15 minutes max. Really good prices too, especially their take out deals.
Lindsay H — Google review
This is my second time ordering pizza from this location for my son who is a student at Penn State. Both orders have been fantastic. My recent order was fully done using the Domino’s app which is a five star too. I was able to order everything on the app without any issues and I absolutely love that you can see the progress in real time! The entire process from ordering to receiving the delivery was about 30 minutes. The driver called my son to notify him he was at the dorm and he was very happy with the order! I’m sure the pizza tasted better than these photos I was able to get from my son - try asking for a pic from a teenager 🤦🏻‍♂️. Overall very happy with the food, delivery and entire ordering process! I highly recommend this location.

Coffee shop
Dunkin' is a well-established eatery that offers a range of delectable morning meals and an assortment of caffeinated beverages. The donuts at this establishment are exceptionally tasty, receiving high praise from patrons. Not only is the food commendable, but the prices are also justified by the quality of both the items and service offered.
Out of all the Dunkin's in the area, I have the most consistent orders here. Plus, I had my order made wrong at another location one day, and by the time I realized, I was too far away to turn around. I decided to swing past this store since I was in a rush. Even though I did not go to the same store to get my drink remade, this store happily still remade it for me, which I was very thankful for, even though it was out of their usual protocol! Thank you to the nice guy who helped me out!

First time I came here, I ordered a frozen chocolate and got a frozen coffee. Second time, worst hot chocolate from a Dunkin’ I’ve ever gotten (very watered down). This time, I ordered a large and it’s not even full, terrible Dunkin’. You never get what you pay for.

Spencer was probably the friendliest and happiest person I have ever seen at the drive through. It made my morning. It's really hard to find people in customer service that are kind and friendly. 5 stars just for this guy. Thanks for making my morning awesome and good job for having solid employees !

asked for a bagel toasted with butter and i got this, barely toasted and ive never seen any dunkin put this amount of butter on a bagel before. have issues with this dunkin often! food is not that great!

Very clean facility and friendly staff. There’s a but… I ALWAYS order the same thing, Medium Carmel cold brew with cold foam and cream…..I just moved here and I’ve gone to this location 4 times as it is less than a mile from my house. They give me Iced Coffee instead of Cold Brew EVERY SINGLE TIME! I love cold brew, I REALLY dislike iced coffee. Huge disappointment and waste of money.

I only had a coffee here in the latte. it was just fine. The young lady who took the order and served up the coffee was pleasant and friendly. As we picked up the coffee to have a seat, there were several dirty tables, but there was still room to sit down. The only other irritant was the fact that the music was playing a bit too loud, and it was a distraction while trying to have a conversation.
Cyndi L — Google review
I love this dunkin, got my usual coffee today and it was perfect, satisfied as usual. I love how they actually have tumblers here and a fireplace in their lobby. Definitely only go to this location when in the area.

Sandwich shop
Are U Hungry is a lively eatery known for its late-night offerings and student-friendly atmosphere. The highlight of this place is their signature fat sandwiches, which are essentially cheese steaks loaded with various toppings like chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, french fries, bacon, and onion rings. The menu features an array of creative and hearty sandwiches that cater to all tastes. Customers praise the efficient service and friendly staff who make dining here a pleasant experience.
We actually found this place after finding a parking space that was reserved for it. Wasn't sure what to expect. Staff was friendly, but busy. Family of four, each of us with something different. All of the food was good. Wraps were massive and the Mac and cheese bites were very good. Pictures do not show the true size of these wrapsa

I stopped in on Sunday afternoon and was promptly greeted by a friendly staff member who quickly took my order but was patient while I made my decision. My take out order was ready in no time. Great and efficient service! We ordered the boneless chicken wings, which were better than most, large pieces of juicy all white chicken breast, cooked to a nice crisp. We choose the honey bbq and the mild Buffalo sauces, which we yummy. Will definitely return!
Lisa D — Google review
I was happy to go in & try the chicken Cesar wrap for the first time & i specifically asked for no bacon at the register & he confirmed with me that no bacon will be put on the wrap. WELL … bacon was put on my wrap & the “manager” that made the wrap claims he knows what he put on it & he didn’t put bacon on it so he can’t do anything about it even after showing him the pictures. I had to throw my whole wrap away & was left with nothing! not even an apology. it’s like he forget i asked for no bacon and tried to pick out the bacon instead of making a new wrap! completely horrible service.

Gotta try it. So many crazy sandwiches…. Entire meal(s) on one sandwich. Steak&Cheese, chicken tenders, cheese sticks, French fries, ketchup & Mayo. Sounds crazy but it rocks. Back to visit again in summer of 2023. Still a really cool place and some crazy food offerings.

Wow, this place is crazy. You can get so much on a sandwich. The combinations are absurd but they work so well. Plus the sides of mozzarella sticks and funnel cake fries and onion rings were exquisite. So perfectly created. Everything tasted so good. Definitely will go again but not frequently!

Food wasn't bad, but it's honestly no better than sheetz frozen deep fried food depending on what you get. Service time for food wasn't amazing but it would be really good drunk food.

This reviewll is solely about their cheesesteak.. I've not tried other menu items yet... Sooo.. i am a cheesesteak guy... Everywhere I go.. I get one.. so far I've not found a good one in State College... This place advertises a cheese steak for 6.99.. but has no cheese.. so alas.. this is no cheese steak... If you want that.. it cost 1.50 to add cheese.. so alas... Sub is 9 inches and was not cut in half.. Unfortunately it also is made of extremely salty n greasy chip steakumm meat which was dry n tough... Was unable to finish even half of it . The bun ended up soggy quickly...

The chicken is juicy while I am not a fan of their sandwich. Sub and white bread can be better.

The menu features creative breakfast options such as strawberry waffles, savory chocolate chip pancakes, and loaded omelets. Locals praise the food for tasting just like home-cooked meals.
If you're ever in University Park Pennsylvania, The Original Waffle Shop is one of the best breakfast places in town. I highly recommend you come to this location to eat the food. It was delicious. The price was perfect, the servings were huge, the customer service was amazing, and I couldn't have asked for better.

The food and service were amazing. I had eggs, corned beef hash, and potatoes along with a blueberry waffle, and everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My wife ordered the eggs Florentine, which she really enjoyed. Overall, a great spot for a delicious and satisfying meal with friendly service. We’ll definitely be back.

We had the most impressive young waitress! Whoever raised this young lady did it right!! She had the best manners, personality and very good customer service skills! Her name was Maddie. She came straight to our table with 2 pots of hot coffee (reg & decaf) and was so attentive the whole time. All of our food was so good and nice portion sizes. We came for breakfast, I had the Avocado toast with and egg on top and a side of fruit and it was delicious. The rest of our group had a waffle with strawberries & whipped cream, BLT and meat lovers omelette. Everything was delicious. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. We got there around 9:15 and got right in, when we left around 10:30 there was a line to get in.

Had an incredible brunch here. Burger was perfectly cooked and fries were nice and crispy. My wife’s omelet was very flavorful and the buttermilk pancakes were excellent. Homefries had a ton of flavor and didn’t taste like wet potatoes like some other places. Even though it was very busy the wait staff were kind. I absolutely adore this place and highly recommend it. Come early though as the lines can get crazy!

Nature & Parks
Tom Tudek Memorial Park is a well-maintained recreational area that features a playground, basketball and tennis courts, as well as a walking path. Additionally, there's a dedicated dog-friendly section with three separate fenced-in areas for dogs to safely play in. The park also has facilities for various other sports such as badminton and football. One of the main attractions of this small yet impressive park is its horse stable.
There's two separate park areas for kids plus a dog park. One park is for smaller kids and the other has more advanced equipment. There's tennis courts, picnic areas, a soccer/football field, baseball field, water fountains, and clean public restrooms. If playgrounds aren't your thing, they also have nice, clean walking paths/sidewalks and the community garden is just a couple minutes from the parks, on the same side as the dog park. They even have horses there!! We LOVE this park.
Vanessa — Google review
Very nicely maintained park with walking trails (some ADA accessible) and a playground. It's clean and pleasant. This is more of a nice suburban park, not a woody hiking area. The walking trails also aren't very long, but they are a nice place to meet a friend for a walk.
Lydia K — Google review
Really lovely park. You feel like you’re out in the wilds but really in the middle of town!
Belinda S — Google review
Such a gorgeous park! We stumbled on it by chance as we were in the area. There’s a flower section designated for butterflies that should be greening up soon, along with a community garden. They also have a dog park next to it with sections separated by size. Definitely saving this to come back one day!
Philip — Google review
What a gem, nestled behind a business district! Walking the butterfly gardens, the many well maintained trails, soaking in the amazing vistas including the horses, is a wonderful lunch break reset for those of us who work in the area. The two playgrounds, picnic areas and dog park further enhance the community inclusiveness.
Lisa D — Google review
Specifically went to the dog park. Great spot to bring your dogs for off leash time. There are generally two separate areas available, one for little dogs and one for bigger dogs. I've been back a number of times now to other parts of the park and it's got some good playground equipment for the kids and sports fields and nice amount of trails for going on a walk.
Jeff W — Google review
Beautiful park with a nice view of Mount Nittany and the Nittany Valley. Well maintained grounds, with picnicing facilities, athletic grounds, a butterfly garden and a beautiful walking/running course throughout the whole park.

The Original Waffle Shop West is a beloved eatery in State College, PA, known for its classic breakfast dishes and lunch options like burgers. This family-owned establishment has been serving up mouthwatering breakfast offerings and creating a warm atmosphere for both locals and visitors. The signature golden waffles are perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, made with the freshest ingredients. With multiple locations around town, it's a cultural institution with dedicated fans who debate about the best spot.
This place always welcome customers with big smile. Family/friend-friendly American breakfast/lunch restaurant. Pancake, waffles, french toast, Omelets with coffee (unlimited!). I especially enjoy multiple syrups for pancake! (I hope there is peanut butter on the side too though). I was impressed that they have healthy omlet option that excludes egg yolk as some people with high blood pressure avoids it. On weekends, it's very busy (the line goes outside of the building). Football week..? Well, good luck to find a parking spot even. However, as there are tons of seating, the line moves pretty fast. I will definitely come again.

Avoid Sophia, unless you want to be treated with indifference and lack of refills. The rest of the staff are friendly and quick to refill glasses. The food is outstanding and the portions plentiful. We always have leftovers, especially the fried red skin potatoes. I really like that they have egg whites without an extra charge. The iced tea is delicious and the coffee is excellent. The atmosphere is very happy with people enjoying their food and chatting. It can get a bit noisy, but we could easily hear one another speaking. Can't wait to come back.
Rhonda B — Google review
If your server goes by the name Sofia, leave, RUN if you can. She was hostile and short with us during every interaction. My husband begged to go to waffle shop for his birthday and that totally soured the mood. When it came time to pay she gave us the check and HOVERED over us while writing the tip and signing. Common courtesy would be to drop the bill off and walk away. The whole vibe was off, I don’t think we stayed more than 30-40 mins and barely ate the food. You can see how terrible the waiter was from the comically huge amount of food placed in what seems to be a cup sized to go box and YES that is two whole pancakes stacked under the potatoes and omelet. Not surprised to see that I’m not the only one who had a bad interaction with Sofia. Food was fine and nothing special as it’s a breakfast spot, ordered the typical pancakes and eggs.
Kaiyi C — Google review
Been Coming to this place (not the exact location) since I was very young at the old A frame building where they started out. The portions are good and the food is great. They have a huge breakfast menu and the coffee is great. The service is always very good and the food comes out prompt, hot and fresh. Breakfast potatoes are the gold standard and the pancakes are top notch. The lunch items are equally great from the soups to the burgers. Congrats to the new owner he has maintained the high quality standards in all regards!
Steve M — Google review
The service at this place is truly amazing. I have been here multiple times where there have been lines literally wrapping around the building, but the staff can churn through people so fast that it's not even a factor. Also, if you're only 1 or 2 people then they can often fit you in at the counter much more quickly so you can skip the line. The waffles themselves are great (as is the other breakfast fare) so definitely worth the brunch

Nestled in the heart of downtown State College, The State Theatre is a historic venue that has been transformed into a vibrant hub for the performing arts. This charming theater hosts an array of events, including music concerts, operas, musicals, plays, dance performances, and film screenings. It's one of the premier spots in town to catch nationally recognized bands and enjoy captivating shows. The intimate atmosphere makes it perfect for audiences of all ages; however, be prepared for tight seating in the front rows!
Surprising large theater for one that looks small from the outside, was pleasantly surprise! Super nice venue inside and it wasn't too hard to find seats. Seating was pretty comfortable and the movie we watched that night looked great up on the screen! If you do grab tickets, make sure to come early (especially if you're in a group) since there's generally a line to get in even with tickets. At most it took me ten minutes to get inside, but I didn't have any gripes at all. Can't wait to visit again!

We enjoyed another stellar concert at the State Theater, this time from the Steep Canyon Rangers. The theater is comfortable and offers snacks and refreshment if desired. The smaller venue offers a more intimate experience and interaction with the programmers.

Really love having this gem in our town! The music, films, and entertainers and music are all top notch! The concession stand offers local wines and beers for enjoying during the shows and there's special events in the attic!

This theater has showings of films that are classic as well as contemporary. It also has live music and other events. One of my favorites is the Blue and White Film Festival that showcases short films from Penn State's students. A great venue in a great little town.

Great place to go for a date or hangout with friends. During normal screenings, the theatre has many good viewing points available (including an upstairs section).
Saphire A — Google review
My first time here was amazing. I'll definately go back. I enjoyed the concert with my wife and youngest child. Concession area with alcoholic beverages, snack food, and non alcoholic drinks
Jeremy B — Google review
When the theatre reopened however many years ago, I was more than a little cautious about getting my hopes up, as we'd not had a venue of the sort in our area for many years. It has since then become my favorite spot for ALL kinds of music, dance, cabaret (shout out to Lady Grey's Lovelies!) local fundraising efforts, our local LIVE Rocky Horror Picture Show (hooray for Love and Light Productions), and they even offer free kid's movies once a week all summer long. I have been lucky to attend the shows of some awesome 'Jam Bands', The Cast Of Beatlemania..and, even my ALL TIME favorite band, Third Eye Blind, played there on their 2009 tour. Because it's such a small venue, I had the privilege of meeting the band after the concert and was even invited back on their bus for cocktails 😄 So if an artist you really love, or even just someone you'd like to meet is playing at State Theatre, I highly recommend that after the show you run around to the back, in Calder Alley, and wait patiently to get hugs and autographs! Oh, and the best part is that there is not one single bad seat in the entire auditorium, both floor and balcony offer fantastic views. Those old guys from the Muppet Show would struggle for a complaint! I love supporting local business and local art and music; but it's the absolute bestest when those two things merge into one awesomesauce event 🎟️🎭🎶💃🕺🎞️

Millbrook Marsh Nature Center is a hidden gem that spans 50 acres of protected wetlands, offering visitors an immersive experience in nature. With well-maintained boardwalks and trails, it's perfect for hiking and wildlife observation. Families can enjoy scavenger hunts while exploring the flat terrain, making it accessible for young children. Along the way, you might spot various animals—though snakes are elusive! The center features a charming free little library and a lovely pavilion ideal for picnics.
This Nature Center offers free entry to boardwalk and grass trails around a marsh, that will take about 4000 steps to complete. There's a spot where 3 little streams meet, and a nice variety of native marsh plantings and trees. There's an outdoor art display along the trail with paintings created by kids and adults. On my visit, part of the boardwalk trail was closed for renovations. By the entrance, stop in to visit the gated pollinator garden. There's a free gravel parking lot for visitors, and the Center is close to the Penn State campus.
Barb ( — Google review
I saw so many animals here, especially so many rabbits!! I even caught a mammal swimming which might have been a young beaver but it was hard to tell and it went under the water as soon as it noticed me. The nature center certainly seems to be effective at its efforts to conserve the marsh ecosystem, given all the animals I saw. The boardwalks are nice because you don’t have to worry about brush overgrowth or muddy areas in the path. However I was disappointed that the boardwalk which connects the front & back of the property was out of service when I visited, as well as the bird blind in the middle of the marsh. It’s also cool that this park connects to other parks as well as a bike trail that connects different parts of town so it’s easier for people to visit the nature center. They could use more signage at the beginning of trails to make the trailheads clear for hikers.

Short but nice walk. Somewhat restricted by a bridge that needs repair. Very short drive from Beaver Stadium. Meet a mom duck taking her family for a swim (picture).

I took the children I watch (aged 3&4) out for a scavenger hunt. The boardwalk was well kept and clearly marked. There were places to rest and relax, and it was all flat which was great for us all. We were able to see lots of animals and personally we did not see any snakes although I'm sure you could on the right day. They have a free little library filled with books and a nice pavilion for lunch. It's also very close to Spring Creek park and is easily accessible via bike path.

Free and quiet easy board walk. A part of the trail was closed for renovation but on the upside, I had it ALL to myself. Saw a few duck families and assimilated nature

I absolutely love this little wetland park. There are so many natural gems found here. Birding and butterflying are top notch with some interesting to uncommon species ie. Sedge Wren and Eyed Brown. I don't live anywhere near State College, but when I'm in town I come through and spend a couple hours here. The boardwalk and mowed paths make access easy and enjoyable. Staying on the boardwalk is a must.
Sir H — Google review
We didn't go inside any structures, just walked the paths. The views of the creek and plant life was nice. The water was so clear, on this hot day it was very tempting. Since it was midday and very hot, we didn't see much wildlife. A few startled birds and one water snake. But, it was a nice easy walk and I'll not only recommend this place to my friends and family, I'll will come back myself.

Beautiful wetland close to town! It’s perfect for a little walk. Also good for biking around. It’s well preserved with deers, ducks, and different kinds of birds. It even has a tiny flower garden in there. Currently there’s only one portable restroom, but it seems like their renovation includes a new restroom.

Brewery
Happy Valley Brewing Company is a charming microbrewery and eatery located in State College, Pennsylvania. Housed in a renovated barn, this brewpub exudes Pennsylvanian charm and offers a diverse selection of over a dozen craft beers, including brown ales, IPAs, Belgian whites, and sours. The menu features an array of sandwiches and upscale tavern food that perfectly complements the beer offerings.
This trendy and fun restaurant had a lively vibe that was perfect for Penn State. There were several comfort food options which were all delicious. We started with the pretzel bites and the hummus platter. The pretzel bites came with a creamy cheese sauce which was perfect for dipping. The roasted garlic hummus had a mellow garlic flavor with a subtle sweetness and a hint of smokiness which created a rich and savory taste. For my main, I had the hot honey fried chicken sandwich. The beer-battered chicken with honey featured a crispy, crunchy chicken with a sweet, tangy honey sauce which was a perfect balance of flavors. The side caesar salad was fresh and tasty. Overall, a great State College dining experience.

First time here. The owner should be ashamed of there selves. Went to this place today waiter messed up order several times, we figured he was new so we were understanding of the situation asked for our bill and paid but I realized the bill was wrong we paid for $80 and our bill was supposed to be $190 I realized he made a mistake and brought it up to his attention, was trying to do the right thing. He mentioned there was no manager and they could not void transaction and there was nothing he could do but wait until manager decided to call back… I was like are you serious? I did not have time to wait, then I told him since they had deducted $80 I would pay balance in cash and then they could figure it out, but at least I did my job in paying. Sent my husband to ATM to go take out $100 so I could pay the difference. As he returns I get notified manager decided to call back and they would be recharging the $190 honestly totally not ok seemed everyone was new and there was no leadership in the building, how is that possible?? Wanted to speak to someone and couldn’t. Definitely will let my customers know not to go to this establishment I have money pending there is $400 in limbo and won’t know what really is getting charged until Monday. Terrible way to inconvenience your guest!

Met some of my gal pals for lunch here today and ordered 'The Salesman' which was basically a tuna melt with lettuce, tomato, onion, and melted fontina cheese. I asked that the balsamic vinaigrette be on the side because I had heard the sandwich can often be doused in it. The sandwich came loaded with tuna salad, so much so that globs of it fell out of the bread. No complaints here! It was good! The Captain Crush, a very citrusy pilsner, was quite lemony and refreshing. Our server, Kat, was very attentive. And the overall ambiance, from the beautiful decor to the extremely comfortable chairs led to a very enjoyable experience.

This was our second time here. This time was during graduation weekend, and fortunately, we had no problem getting seating without a reservation (definitely recommended during game or graduation weekends). I prefer seating in the upstairs barn area over the basement, which is a little darker. But it’s a nice, big place with a lot of seating. Nicely decorated, and a great place for pub grub and good homemade beer, and this is coming from a beer aficionado. They have nice options for beers, in addition to mixed drinks and wine for the non beer drinkers. I’ve been very happy with the food. The short rib grilled cheese is great! Our service was great, although we saw one grump worker while we were there the last time we were there who was clearly over stressed by the graduation weekend and was being a little too confrontational with minor issues. Our server was awesome though. Parking is a bit tight, but they have spots out front and in the back which seems to be sufficient. It’s a good value, and they have something for everyone. We’ll keep coming back!

The food and atmosphere were great. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, but did not check on us for refills, etc. as often we would have liked. All in all, I would highly recommend!
Heather S — Google review
Cool decor, especially the murals on the high ceilings. Waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was good but not great, as was the bock beer I got. We (three of us) ordered an onion ring appetizer to share and there were only six onion rings. Seemed rather overpriced for the quality of food, too.

First time here. The beer was great. The staff was great, and the space looks cool, but was here for the weekend and relaxing this place was not. I was lucky to find the only stool at the bar available. Place was packed, loud, and felt chaotic with staff running around every which way. I’d come back but never ever again on a weekend (except summers when school ain’t in session).

Great service and atmosphere during our visit today! Poison apple cocktail, Happy Pilz beer, and pretzel bites with beer cheese app were all very good. Sandwiches (tuna melt pictured and spicy salmon cake sandwich not pictured) were decent but lacked flavor/condiments, so not bad but not something we’d order again. Would still recommend a visit for all the positives!

Excellent pizza in State College. It's prepared immediately after ordering with fresh ingredients. I had the margharita which was tasty, with just the right amount of olive oil and garlic. Not overwhelming or greasy. Only minor issue was that I would've liked the crust to be a bit more crunchy. Service was super friendly and efficient in a clean environment. Definitely recommend.
Richard F — Google review
I only go here to get the mac and cheese pizza because it’s the best. I have found clumps of hair in my food twice, and the employees often look confused about everything. But I can’t stay away from the mac pizza.
Talia N — Google review
The pizzas are quite good. We got a Nashville got chicken one, and it was great. The pepperoni was also very good. My daughter doesn't do pizza, but really liked the cheese sticks. We stopped in before a show at the state theatre (next door) and sat outside. We have since ordered out from here. Good place. Look for the weekly specials.

Fresh made pizza! The place was pretty busy, but they were efficient taking and making orders quickly. We really enjoyed our pizza and would visit again!

Service and atmosphere was good but the pizza was ok. Kids loved it but for me, nothing special. Pizza needed more flavor. Overall good place to enjoy with friends and family.

What a great place to enjoy a custom made fresh pizza! My son, a Penn State student, recommended this location on my recent visit and I was pleasantly surprised how good it was! The pizza is freshly made and we ordered a buffalo chicken pizza, margarita pizza and cinnamon sticks. Wow is the best way to describe. Really tasty and filling. Everything was perfect. The location is well kept and the staff was friendly too! Highly recommend visiting when downtown visiting Penn State. You won’t be disappointed.

When a person asks for little ice and keeps telling the worker little ice. You would think they would understand little ice. Not only did I get ice I got the same amount of ice if I didn’t say anything. I don’t pay for ice I would like to pay for the coffee I ordered! But that seems to be a foreign thought. It happens every time. Very disappointed as usual.

I seriously love my Dunkin, and don't have one were I live so when I come to work this is the 1st place I stop! Ima drive thru type of person so of course they got to know me and my boyfriend pretty well, we always laughed and joked. Well one day he misunderstood me cuz he can barely speak or understand English and made the drink i used to drink instead of the one I been getting for the past month or more, and I just so happened to have a free coffee on my app and the coffee was cheaper then the drink I got so he actually made me pay the difference even tho it was his mistake I meen who does that!?!?! Then I asked for xtra mocha, well the 1st one has so much in it I wouldn't even of been able to drink it, and the one I got ....well it pretty much just taste like ground ice smh!!! Then I got a donut, it was on it's side the icing slide off and not a single napkin!!! I feel like that was sayn a big f you!! I been going there for about 6 months or more and I will never go back!! I DO NOT tolerate rudeness and ignorance, especially when I'm giving them MY money!! He definitely just lost a customer!!!!!

I haven't had DQ in years. I just happen to stop by. I forgot how good the food is, and they have cheese curd. Witch was a surprise to me. However, price was a little high. Overall, I'd give it a 4.6

Best Dairy Queen I have ever visited anywhere. Super-hot day and we needed a cold treat, we ordered a couple of Blizzards and the manager also gave us cups of ice water to help cool us off. He checked in to make sure we were doing okay and everything was good. Great service, super friendly and great treats. Thanks.
Timo — Google review
We did the drive through, the servers were really kind and were generally pleasant to interact with and I greatly appreciate that. I plan to come back if I'm back in the area again.

Clean. Well prepared for social distance, etc. The staff is not rushing you to order, they are patient and attend special requirement as lower sugar ice cream. If you are checking on levels of sugar this place will offer you alternatives. The product however has I believe 6grs of sugar to be considered when buying. Overall good experience.

Pizza restaurant
I visited Monte Carlos Pizza & Wings with my family before a nearby concert. We ordered buffalo chicken pizza and barbecue wings. Although I don't usually eat wings, both my wife and daughter found them delicious. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the buffalo chicken pizza and had five pieces myself. It was perfect, albeit a little oily as expected from our order. The staff at the register were friendly and quick to thank us for stopping by.
This is a great place for some VERY, and emphasis on very, good pizza. Also, a major benefit of this restaurant is that they have HALAL food here. S9 for those who want pepperoni pizza but can't because the pepperoni is not halal, then this is DEFINITELY the place to go. Hope y'all shout me out, reply to me, or pin me or smt.
Tasneem A — Google review
Decent pizza that's not badly priced! It's Muslim owned! They have beef pepperoni, etc!

The food is fantastic and Mo is awesome! He will remember you after one visit. The hoagies are on fresh bread and the pizzas come out quick and hot. If you want a real experience go here.

I feel like Monte Carlos is not talked about enough and highly underrated. I’ve had a variety of different items from pizza, wings and subs, which are all very good. I love it because they don’t do much with their restaurant and put all their effort into their food. I love the Super Italian cold sub because the bread is spot on and super crispy.
Austin B — Google review
This place is a mess. Bad hygiene, bad food, and even worse service. I left frustrated and disgusted. MonteCarlo Pizza and Wings is not worth your time or money.
Anastasia Z — Google review
This is MY favorite pizza in state college. It's so good. Any time I've gotten it I have never been disappointed - The sauce has flavor! Great pepperonis too! Easy easy parking - and it's free. They're also open super late. My only complaint is EVERY time I want them it's on the day they're scheduled to be closed! I have to wait a whole day for the pizza then! Reasonably priced as well. By far my favorite pizza in the area!!
