As a visitor to the city, I had a fantastic time at Sugar River Pizza Co. - New Glarus. The restaurant was not too crowded during early dinner time, allowing me to enjoy a pleasant dining experience. The bartender/waitress suggested trying their special old fashions, which arrived promptly and whetted my appetite. The chicken BBQ pizza I ordered was deliciously cheesy with a smoky and satisfying sauce.
Stopped here for a late lunch after the New Glarus Brewery. Ordered pepitas (fried dough covered in cheese and bacon + ranch on the side) for an appetizer -- soft, chewy, and flavorful -- follwed by taco pizza. The taco pizza was excellent and we loved that we could add our own toppings. Great food!

After a successful bridal gown shopping spree down the street at Brandi’s Bridal, our group of grandmas, moms, and bridesmaids made the natural next stop—Sugar River Pizza in New Glarus! 🍕👰💍 Apparently, we had the look—the manager clocked us as a post-bridal-shopping crew the second we walked in. (Turns out, that’s a thing here!) 😂 We grabbed a big table and dove into some seriously good eats. The cheese bread? Golden, gooey, and gone in seconds. The fried cheese curds? A Wisconsin must. And the drink selection kept everyone happy. But let’s talk about the pizza—the crust was that perfect combo of doughy and crisp, and the toppings were anything but basic. Our table shared the “Mac Daddy” (think bacon cheeseburger on a pizza—yes, it’s as good as it sounds) and a creamy Chicken Alfredo pizza the ladies couldn’t stop raving about. 🍗🧄🥓🧅 Nice interior and even nicer patio dining for summer days! Street parking and walkable to other fun shops in town! Great food, fun service, and a memorable way to toast a bride-to-be. Highly recommend this spot for any celebratory group—or just because you love a good pizza! 🍻💒🍕. The town is so cute I wished I had more time to shop at more of the local stores! Made me decide to come back for a weekend soon!

Met up with some old friends! Food was super good, and not too greasy. Left with a full belly and a happy heart! ❤️

Waited for quite a while for a small Caesar salad and an order of the marinara and goat cheese with breadsticks to go, which was fine..but was quite disappointed with the marinara and goat cheese. First photo is what it looks like online..other photos are what I received…decent amount of breadsticks with a bunch of goat cheese and a small container with barely any marinara…..

What an excellent pizza place! I am allergic to wheat and they have a great wheat/gluten-free option for crust. The weight staff is incredibly helpful, kind, and just the right amount of hospitality allowing you to enjoy your food and company while making sure you have everything you need. My daughter and I had such a great meal and enjoyed the staff so much that I pulled the manager aside to let him know. He has a great group of young people working. There was traditional and creative options for pizza as well. Bravo! I would definitely recommend.

Being born in the Bronx, my childhood set me up with certain expectations for pizza. Sugar River New Glarus executes the little things that make the overall experience and food memorable each and every time we’ve been in the last 5 years. The food, the atmosphere just works and it keeps us coming back. Are there other places to get pizza? Yes. But none of those places have Phill. Phill is why we go out of our way to get some good pizza. I have a call to action for you reading this review. 1- Help me in ensuring they keep the Hot Mess they dropped for the fall on the menu forever. 2- Ask for Phil. Also, you will not find a better gluten free pizza in WI. Trust me. We have tried. It’s not out there.

We stopped in again on 10/19/24 And had Sierra as our server. Again everything was great!! I had the BBQ pulled pork on flatbread and my wife had lasagna soup which was very good and super filling. It is nice to find a place you can look forward to going to and Sugar River Pizza is that place! My wife and I are here again 7/8/2023 and nothing has changed. Everything was great and our server Rita made sure we had what we needed and made a great beverage recommendation to my wife! We love the Sugar River State trail and love Sugar River Pizza that's right on the trail. My wife and I ate here on Saturday 7/23/2022. We were seated right away and our waitress Sierra was very prompt and attentive. We had the Garden Belle pizza and it was delicious for sure. Some may have found the crust a little over done but I was fine with it. We ate outside on the covered patio and the music was relaxing and not to loud. As far as the prices go I feel they were well within line with other establishments and not over priced in any way.

I went in yesterday with my boyfriend for dinner last night and had an awesome meal! We got the cheese curds for an appetizer and they reminded me of the kind you would get at the fair. Light and airy batter and absolutely delicious. Then we got a meat lovers pizza that we demolished. The meat on the pizza was cooked perfectly and the dough was so good! Also, our waitress (The tallish blonde one) was an absolute sweetheart! 10/10 would recommend and definitely make the almost hour drive to.

For me the best place to eat in New Glarus. The music, atmosphere and presentation have been well designed to enhance the dining experience. The cinnamon rolls and pancakes are great. Sitting at the bar you can watch the cook prepare everything. Other places in New Glarus are toted as must visits but for me this place is the best.

I ordered a ham and cheese bagel on everything bagel and a mocha. The mocha was very hot, which is unusual in coffee shops. They tend to be in somewhat warm but never hot so I loved it! The sandwich was wonderful and not lacking and ingredients whatsoever I would definitely visit here again.

Bar & grill
Puempel's Olde Tavern is a historic establishment that has been serving patrons since 1893. The tavern offers a casual atmosphere and a menu featuring local specialties such as cheese from Green County. Visitors can enjoy free tasters from New Glarus Brewing with every beer purchase, and the tavern also features a Bloody Mary bar and serves soft and chewy pretzels. The ambiance of the tavern is old-timey, making it a charming spot to experience during events like polka fest.
Liverwurst and Hamms. It's absolutely everything you need. Great Bartender and perfect vibes. Def need to come here.
Jason K — Google review
Very nice, historic place. Had a very good liverwurst (specifically braunschweiger) sandwich on seedless rye. We also had the "Italuan beef, with hot peppers and au jus" (both on the side) sandwich, which was, well, very different from the juicy, almost shredded pepperoncini‐mixed Chicago-style "Italian beef" we have had many places. Not the same thing, this is just slices of Italian Roast Beef lunchmeat on a bun. The menu needs to describe this better. Overall, a nice historic place, good atmosphere. Dollars tossed up to the ceiling go to charity.
Glenn S — Google review
We visited New Glarus, WI, AKA Little Switzerland. After enjoying walking around the shops we stopped in Puempel's Olde Tavern for lunch. I had the bratwurst sandwich with chips which was very tasty. At the table there was a choice of 3 different mustards to choose from to put on my brat. My husband chose the broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl. The others had the Italian Beef sandwich which they all said was great. We all enjoyed looking at the murals painted on the walls and enjoyed hearing about the history of the Tavern. Many locals were there and seemed to be the place to be. They were very friendly and spoke to us about the history when they heard us talking to the waitresses.
Kathy B — Google review
I was immediately drawn to this place because of the historic look of the outside. I was originally a little nervous of the small menu, but sometimes the best places know exactly what makes them good and they don’t need a huge menu. The menu is classic to the town and they do it well. I got the brat, yet simple, it was delicious and packed with flavor. The inside is full on in the past and that makes it so interesting to look at and completes the experience. The prices are even better and the full bar menu is great as well. Very happy I chose to come here.
Devin G — Google review
I didn’t actually eat here, so I can’t speak on the food. The atmosphere and bartender lady (whom I’m spacing her name after a long weekend of fishing and enjoying places like this) are top notch tho. Very knowledgeable of the local history as well, and seem to like talking about it. That was fun. Lots of new glarus beer on tap. Great place.
Spencer H — Google review
Great food and bar atmosphere. The bartender was really chill and friendly, and the bloody mary was amazing. We loved the history of the space, with murals dating back to 1913! Definitely recommend.
Lucy N — Google review
We had the absolute pleasure of meeting Harmony, the best bartender we've ever come across, during our visit to New Glarus. Her personality is unforgettable—warm, witty, and so full of good energy. She made us feel welcome from the moment we sat down and truly elevated the entire experience. Honestly, I’d return to New Glarus just to see her again. Harmony is a total gem and the heart of this bar. Highly recommend! ♡-Angie, Bryan, Kelly, Tom, and Just Jeff. P.S. Harmony needs a raise!
Angie — Google review
The bartender was incredibly rude for no reason and made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. As someone who’s worked in food service for 6 years it was shocking that a bartender would be so outwardly rude to customers completely unprompted.

Restaurant
Located in the heart of downtown New Glarus, Glarner Stube is a cozy wood-paneled nook with an old-world charm that has been serving Swiss dishes and local craft beer on tap since 1991. This popular Swiss-German restaurant offers mouth-watering European dishes such as pork schnitzel sandwiches, cheese fondue, and rosti. The bar counter features a selection of local brews from New Glarus.
Best cheese curds. Hands down. Incredible. If you’re in the area, this is a must try. The homemade soup was delicious. Service was fast and friendly. New Glarus beer on tap. No complaints.
Angela N — Google review
Overall experience was positive. The food was delicious! However, the service was slow considering it was not a full house during my visit. Additionally, the attire the serving staff wore was not appropriate for an establishment of this caliber. I observed servers wearing flip-flops, and disheveled t-shirts. One server was wearing leopard print-spandex shorts. This is what I would expect to see in a dive bar, not an establishment that brands itself as “fine dining”. So while the food was delicious, the atmosphere mirrored casual dining at best. I will return in the future solely because of the food. In the future, management should reevaluate their expectations of professional appearance for staff so that the establishment will live up to fine dining status.
Nick99 — Google review
We happened to be in the area, and stopped in not sure what to expect. It was incredibly pleasant. Food was delicious. The cheese curds were massive, and so good. Everyone we came into contact with was friendly. Next time we are in the area we will surely stop in again.
Kace J — Google review
Absolutely did not disappoint. Everything was absolutely amazing. The staff was friendly and inviting. Every bite you can taste every flavor. Definitely will be back.
Tula A — Google review
NOT fine dining! The sign on the building said “fine dining.” I had higher hopes. Why in the world is a server running around in leopard print spandex with socks and sandals!? Casual sandals for the hostess as well. The bartender was wearing Birkenstocks and sandals. The staff looked like they were ready to run a little league concession stand. All were friendly, but not impressed. The customer next to me…blue and yellow toenails hanging out in the wild like he’s at a beer garden. We waited 15 minutes at our table before our server greeted us. This was met with an apology, which I appreciated. The Swiss fondue…DELISH! But absolutely not $26 delicious for some melted Swiss with bread. My prime rib was average. Quite fatty. The sauce had too much horseradish in it. The schnitzel was much better. The red cabbage was divine! A perfect balance of sweet and sour. The roesti was also delicious! You can’t get this anywhere else! Overall, overpriced for a casual dining experience with mediocre service. I probably wouldn’t return.
Alex G — Google review
Tasty food, large portions and nice atmosphere. Schnitzel is a classic but the brat was fantastic! The rösti is a must try!
Willow — Google review
Just excellent! The food was authentic and delicious. You must get the roesti! OMG. You will dream about it forever. Wonderful cozy atmosphere and the service was top notch.

We were at the Glarner today during the chaos and fun that is Oktoberfest. We had the best service and food in a long time. Our server “Sarah” was amazing! She made my in-laws birthday an amazing time! 82 years young and they had a blast because of Sarah and staff. I will be back again and again! PS - New Glarus Pilsner is the gift of the gods! Great place to grab a drink ans a sandwich. Our server helped us pick out a delicious sandwich and wrap. She was attentive, helpful and engaging, answering all our questions. Beer and Bloody Mary were delicious. It was a Monday night but Indiana pork special was a 10 out of 10. We will be back when we get back to the area. Wonderful experience.
Tim C — Google review
The cheese curds were good and they had little beers you could get for free with New Glarus tokens- but the food was only mediocre. It seems like the roux had broke for the Mac and cheese and the fry oil was in need of a change. Not bad but not the best either
Olivia P — Google review
This small town bar and grill is an amazing place to stop for some delicious food. The pulled pork sandwich tasted amazing and the house fries were just the right amount of crispy. I topped off the meal with a glass of sweet honey mead. They also offer multiple choices from the local brewery. Our server was prompt, polite and friendly. I will definitely be returning to try some of their other burger options!!!

Excellent atmosphere even on a weekday it was vibrant. You can tell they’re a bit short staffed in terms of wait times. Still service was good. The burger was very delicious. However, it was rare to medium rare done, which is not entirely safe for ground beef eating. But because we had waited a while to get food, I did not send it back for more cooking. otherwise, a very excellent experience.

A small little pub located in New Glarus offers an easygoing atmosphere serving up burgers, chili, local brews with outdoor dining and beer garden. Super friendly service serving food that tastes great! Started with the Frickles...crispy breaded pickle chips served with ranch...not greasy and cooked just right. I had a cup of their New Glarus chili which is made fresh daily with New Glarus beer loaded with beef, tomatoes, beans and spices. Topped with sour cream and local cheddar cheese. I skipped the diced onions. It was so good I wish I ordered a bowl! My wife had their homemade chicken salad sandwich on a gluten free bun (1.00 extra). The chicken salad had dried cranberries and pecans which made it super delicious. For a side she had their homemade bean salad. A great place to stop to try local beers and homemade food while enjoying the small town of New Glarus!

The back bar is quite nice. The rest of the bar restaurant is very sterile. It made me feel or think I was in a milk house or a food preparation room. The waitress was clearly overworked and this showed in the way she took orders and treated us and others.
Todd M — Google review
Had a really good tasting bloody mary, but wish there was an option for bed stick/ cheese (just had olive, mushroom, pickle). Nice outdoor back patio with an area for dogs and an area to watch the game. Truffle fries were so good. My wife also had a grasshopper that was amazing in the warm weather.

By far and beyond, this is a gem in New Glarus. Scott, Shane and our favorite, bestest cook ever Sage make it easily our go to stop for good beer, great people and hands down the best burgers ever..not kidding!! Stop in and savor their signature burger “The Beast”, a third pound of 4 different game meats ground, locally sourced and cooked to perfection by Sage, and and they also have a half pounder which we went back for. Of course their fried cheese curds are the bomb!! Such a fun place. Well done Sportsmans’ Reloaded Bar & Grill..well done indeed, G&M and Gitchee

Really laid-back environment, good food very casual bar and food. Chris was the cook/bartender and it was very cool and casual. All walks of life welcomed. Decent beer and liquor selection. The burgers and Ruben as well as the wings were good. Took a little bit longer than we anticipated but it was relatively busy and they were short-staffed so no big deal. If we're in the area again I'd go back.

Had the " Beast Burger" that is currently in the Green County Best Burger contest. It consists of Bison, Elk,Boar, and Wagyu with grilled onions and American cheese. The Burger I had was the 1/2 pound version that consists of 3 smash patties. It was absolutely outstanding 👏. Juicy, flavorful and filling! The staff is amazing here too! Got the lowdown on the contest and told them that the other places need to bring their A game if they want to beat the Beast !! Will definitely be back for another in the not to distant future.

Great place to stop in for a bite to and something to drink. They offer sandwiches, burgers, pizza, and fish fry on fridays. We stopped for lunch, and had burgers with fries and chips, and an order of fried cheese curds. Good food with great service. Plenty of seating at tables or at the bar. Has an outdoorsman theme, with game mounts and fishing lures along the back bar. Highly recommend.

Last night 6/13 I went in to have a burger. The 28 year old female bartender apparently has never been trained in bartending or customer service. The cook is also inept and cannot put a burger together. What I got was over-cooked and missing several ingredients. She must be involved with the gross owner because she can't cook. And they didn't care. They were too busy catering to the male customers. It was a disgusting experience and I will never go back.

Stopped into Kleemans Bar in New Glarus and it did not disappoint. Great atmosphere — just the kind of place you wanna hang out in. The bartender was super welcoming, polite, and friendly, which makes all the difference. I had a quick BLT (because... bacon), and it hit the spot. And yes — they have a pool table! Love it. Definitely a solid little bar if you're in the area. I’ll be back!

I ordered a burger that's the only thing I ate there I give it a 6 out of 10 but they do have some nice gaming machines and the bartenders are really nice they also have a pool table
Putting W — Google review
Place is friendly enough, but it's just your average bar with drinks from any grocery store. The food is meh, like your friend's son in college had some frozen food and was able to microwave or grill it. I would go to hang out with friends. I would definitely not eat here. It's a one man shop really, bartender serves drinks and makes the food in the back corner. What you see is what you get.

If you find yourself wandering through New Glarus, make sure to carve out some time for a visit to Dirty Dog Taphaus. This charming venue offers a unique self-pour experience with 30 taps featuring an impressive selection of beers, ciders, seltzers, and even root beer. The rustic ambiance creates a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for relaxing with friends or family. You can sample various brews before committing to your favorite full glass.
Friendly and helpful service, great options on tap, and an awesome atmosphere with live music on a sunny afternoon! We brought our dog who also enjoyed a pup-cup and lots of pets from other guests. 🐕 Looking forward to stopping in again!

Fantastic afternoon on the patio with live music. Great atmosphere with so many self-serve taps. Good selection of beers, ciders and seltzers. Easy to use tap card system. Friendly staff with lots of fun games available to use.

Great spot for music, beers, & your favorite pup! 🐶 we stopped by. It was quite warm out, but they had plenty of water fans and pup cups for dogs! Very nice fenced out to your courtyard with live music and menu - excellent cheese curds! We also love the self poor wall, where you could pay by the ounce and try a variety of beers & ciders. We will be back!

What a great vibe in this place! Super friendly, great service. Located in the old jewelry store I haven't been to since I was ten years old... Really great experience.

We love this place.!! A very fun concept to serve yourself, which brings added convenience. But there are staff members there to help with food orders and any questions. Live music is a great added touch and you can bring your dog on the patio.

We had a wonderful time at the Dirty Dog Taphaus this weekend! We loved it so much that we visited it twice during our visit to New Glarus! Great indoor and outdoor atmosphere! Loved the self serve tap beers - great variety!! And the decor...the best!!! Met one of the owners who was great to chat with about the history of his bar and also great suggestions to do while in town!!

Can't stress to you all enough, this is my favorite place on planet Earth. Food is amazing, drinks are well curated and every year when we return there's always something amazing to try. Live music is sublime, the playlist outside of the live music is almost like they're using my personal playlist. If you only have time to try one bar/restaurant in New Glarus, make it this one. Coming here feels like coming home.

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with New Glarus Brewing Company, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Bailey's Run Vineyard & Winery. All together, your day would be filled with about 5 hours of non-stop fun.

Food & Drink
Nestled on a hill south of town, New Glarus Brewing Company has been crafting quality brews since 1993. The brewery offers self-guided tours and reservation-only hard hat tours, allowing visitors to witness state-of-the-art brewing technology in action. With a commitment to using 100% natural ingredients, the company's craft beers are a delight for beer enthusiasts.
New Glarus is a pretty drive from Madison. It's 35 mins on country roads cutting through corn fields. Quintessential Wisconsin scenery of rolling hills. When friends visit, I like this brewery. I last went from a friend from the Netherlands. Y'all think Wisconsinites know beer - try the Dutch and the Belgians 😉 We had a great time enjoying a variety of beer and the park-like grounds. Their Strawberry Rhubarb beer is a fav 🏕️🥾🔥⛺

How fun to finally visit spotted cow. New Galtus embraces cows around the city. I love the festive atmosphere and hope to come back. Sampled serendipity and it was fabulous. The staff were young and happy which made it fun. Thank you. Proud of my sign and my memories here.

New Glarus Brewing doesn't need a lot of introduction, they make some of Wisconsin's most well known beers. They were in the middle of an expansion so on my stop they had a limited selection for tasting including a lager, farmhouse ale, oktoberfest, plus a watermelon, strawberry rhubarb, and a sour blackberry...they have several other beers, just not on for my stop. They had alp horns playing, free tours, and their gift shop and beer cave where up and running. I still want to stop back when they have tasting room and more taps on.
Adam D — Google review
One of my favorite Breweries I've visited. They have an informative, self-guided tour that gives you a detailed history of the New Glarus Brewing Company. The surrounding landscape is gorgeous and they offer picnic table seating for the beer tastings. There is a large, free parking lot for customers.
Grace M — Google review
Came on a Monday during July- hardly a soul around, and had the place pretty much to ourselves. Did not have time to do any tours, but was able to pick up some souvenirs. Absolutely beautiful grounds, with lots of areas to wander, tons of parking setup for tour buses, as well as a beautiful area to hang out beer-hall style! We've been drinking Spotted Cow for many years, so did not do any tasting. The place is clearly setup for masses of people- but what confused me, is when do these masses of people come, unless they are all retired people like me? ...Still amazed that a brewery could be closed on the weekend (which is why we had to come on a Monday before lunchtime).
Shalini J — Google review
Visited New Glarus for a beer tasting and had a great time! For $8, you get to sample three small beers and keep the tasting glass. Alternatively, for the same price, you can get a full pint of beer in a souvenir glass that you also get to take home. All seating is outdoors, which adds to the charm—it's a cute and relaxed spot to enjoy a drink.

New Glarus Gyrator Doppelbock: Located in New Glarus, WI, New Glarus Brewing Company was founded in 1993 and is known for their best-selling beer, Spotted Cow. A Doppelbock is a strong (Doppel means double) dark, German-style lager. It is sometimes referred to as “liquid bread” due to its malty sweetness, full body, and its traditional association with the Lenten season. Brewmaster Dan Carey put over ten years of barley research into choosing the Czech barley that goes into New Glarus’ Gyrator Doppelbock. While not as long as ten years, the brew does have a long journey as it’s lagered ten weeks in the cellar before resting in the bottle for an additional 6 months for a more mature flavor. Since I’m not the biggest beer drinker, I apologize for my description and undefined palate. For me, it was a heavy and creamy brew with a hoppy/lightly fruity flavor. It poured a clear dark amber/brown color. If you enjoy a good craft beer, then I think you’ll like this 😋. I found it drinkable for a beer, but it’s not one I would purchase myself😐. My favorite part was the extra strong buzz as it’s a higher alcohol content (nothing official on New Glarus’ website, which is weird but unofficial sources place it between 6.9-8 % alc/vol.). Love Spotted Cow and for years always took some home with us when visiting Wisconsin ..this trip we were able to visit!! Did the self-guided tour and was great to learn more about their history. Tasting - 3 4 ounce tastes allows you to choose which beers you'd like to try, and you keep the tasting glass! They have an area where you can wrap your glass to protect it while traveling. Nice selection in the gift shop and area to purchase. Staff we encountered were friendly and knowledgeable. Great stop and we'll return when in the area again

Bakery
Coffee shop
Nestled in the charming village of New Glarus, the New Glarus Bakery is a delightful stop for anyone with a sweet tooth or craving freshly baked goods. Established in 1910, this quaint bakery offers an impressive array of American, Swiss, and German breads, pastries, and cookies that reflect its rich cultural heritage. During my visit, I couldn't resist trying their famous nut horn—a delectable Swiss pastry made from flaky cream cheese dough wrapped around a luscious walnut filling.
While we were wandering around exploring historic downtown New Glarus we passed the New Glarus Bakery. Since we were a little hungry we stopped in for cookies and a pastry. We got the Swiss Croquettes and a Turtle Cream Filled donut. They were delicious! They have a nice variety of cookies and pastries.

Cute little bakery in downtown area. Prices were very reasonable. The cherry pastry left a greasy film on the roof of my mouth. Not sure what ingredient (shortening?) caused this but it was still very tasty. Good service.

Lovely swiss bakery. You can tell and taste the authenticity in all of their baked goods. The molasses cookies are delicious! I definitely recommend New Glarus Bakery.

Had the best time experiencing downtown New Glarus and found this cute bakery with AMAZING Rum Balls. The best I’ve ever had! I also picked up a turtle for a sweet treat. We purchased some cookies as well that were so good. Will be sure to return on our next adventure to New Glarus. Be sure to stop and support this local business.

We're looking for a place to have an afternoon bakery treat and a cup of coffee. We went in around 3:00 and there was almost nothing left in the case. What there was was very overpriced, there was nowhere to sit, and the girl behind the counter was extremely rude. It was like we were a big inconvenience for showing up. I'll give no rating on the food because we didn't order anything. We would have glad they gotten our coffee in a pastry and just sat on the bench outside, but the girl behind the counter was so rude we just left.

The New Glarus Hotel Restaurant is housed in one of the oldest buildings in town, dating back to 1853. It has a rich history as a hotel, opera house, movie theater, and now a restaurant. The menu offers traditional Swiss dishes like fondue, raclette, rosti, sauerbraten, sausage, and jagerschnitzel alongside American options such as burgers and steak. The atmosphere is lively with frequent live polka music and plenty of seating.
It's been 32 years since I've eaten here. The food is still incredible like I remember. Loved introducing this great place to my wife for the 1st time with balcony seating. And thanks mama for the great pie.

Lovely atmosphere. We came for lunch and the food and beers were spectacular (draft spotted cow with some Rosti and Wienerschitzel) — the portions were very generous. The service was great too. I’d highly recommend you giving it a try. We’ll certainly be back.

Oldie and good. Traditional they said and believe them. Really good service and excellent food. Onion soup, fondue and Jägerschnitzel a must!

Absolutely loved this place! This would be the restaurant I’d recommend if you’re going to make a stop at a restaurant in the downtown area. The menu is traditional Swiss food with options for those who are pickier eaters. There is tons of seating and the atmosphere is fun. Service was good and pricing was average, might be semi-pricy for a family. Make sure to try the deserts, they are made in house by one of the waitresses. Although it is a bit dated on the inside, there is still lots of charm to the decor.

Classic wisco bar and thank God for still having places like these… where you can let your hair or beard down! Let the laid back and humble atmosphere soothe your senses. It’s simple bar food and great cocktails and beer menu. Perfect for pit stop and you might even see Santa 🎅🏼 at the bar! What more can you ask for. Friendly down to earth service. The old-fashioneds were strong and the curried sausage atop crisp fries was satisfying. The burgers at the table next to us looked amazing - might have to back to give them a bite. Enjoy!

We stopped at the Ott Haus Pub after a days ride on the Sugar River State Trail, and it was the perfect choice. The location is super convenient with plenty of parking, and the Swiss-style entrance immediately sets a welcoming tone. The staff made us feel right at home, and we enjoyed the option of outdoor seating on such a nice day. The food was excellent—our burgers and fries were cooked just right, and we started with onion rings that were crispy and delicious. To top it off, they serve local favorites from the New Glarus Brewery, and enjoying a cold Spotted Cow with our meal was the perfect way to end the day. A great stop we’d happily return to!

After biking 23 miles on the scenic Sugar River Trail, we treated ourselves to a well-earned stop at The Ott Haus in New Glarus—and wow, what a reward! We ordered the WISCO Burger, which recently won the 2024 Best Burger in Green County, and it did not disappoint. Juicy and flavorful with crispy bacon, Spotted Cow–sautéed onions, cheddar and muenster cheese, all on a pretzel bun—perfection! We swapped in cheese curds on the side because… when in Cheese Country, right? The drink highlight was discovering the Wisconsin Belgian Red Brew. My husband is a cherry fanatic, and this beer tasted like cherry pie in a bottle. It was so good, we stopped at the grocery store afterward to pick up a 4-pack! The Ott Haus has a cozy pub vibe, friendly service, and delicious food and brews. We'll definitely be back after our next ride!

Ott Haus is a nice little Swiss style bar and grill. Lots of wood throughout serving local drinks, and good burgers and sausages. They have some seating inside and out and a nice comfy bar. Service was friendly and fairly attentive. Definitely worth a stop when in town.

Wineries & Vineyards
Bailey's Run Vineyard & Winery is a charming spot to enjoy snacks, drinks, and live music. The beautiful facility can get crowded, but outdoor seating offers a more comfortable experience. While the wine was decent, the pizza was excellent. However, some felt that the cheese selection could be improved to complement the wines better. Despite this, visitors praised the delicious food and friendly staff.
What a wonderful winery and distillery! Enjoyed hanging out on the patio overlooking the vineyards 2 times this summer, soaking in the sun and the live music over bottles of wine. Huge tasting rooms, plenty of seating indoors and out (but it does get crowded quickly when there is live music, and the weekend), plenty of parking, and food available as well. The views are amazing, you would not think you are sitting in the midwest, but rather out in the western US wine country. Pizza is great, wine is great, music was great. The atmosphere is so relaxing. I fully anticipate a return visit, or 2 or 3... :)
Shalini J — Google review
My daughter and I met a group of ladies at Bailey’s Run Vineyard & Winery for girls day. It was so much fun! We had the best time. We weren’t a fan of the wines they had in at the time but tired them all anyway and bought a couple of bottles. We loved the Lipstick with eatable glitter. It was a cool bottle. The environment is awesome. The staff is nice. The pizza is really good. It’s a can’t time. I can’t wait to go back.

Beautiful view of the vineyard. Live band Friday thru Sunday. I enjoyed the seduction wine. (Sparkling Strawberry Wine) Highly recommend Bailey's Run. Nice patio with plenty of seating. It is dog friendly outdoors.

In the area to visit family, they suggested Bailey’s Run Winery & it was a wonderful choice! The sky was clear blue & a pleasant breeze as the band performed outside. We enjoyed their wine & ordered a couple pizzas & charcuterie board. Really a beautiful venue & very well set up for lots of customers. Wonderful setting & great wine! They also have a whiskey distillery which offers even more great options!
TomQnel — Google review
How have I not reviewed Bailey's Run yet? I love this place! Okay, they do have the new Whiskey Run, which is another reason why this place is awesome. You can get great wine and whiskey, along with local craft beer and handmade craft cocktails; so why aren't you there right now?! :-) I live in DC and see my husband's family in this area each summer. I always make a point to visit Bailey's....they had me at naming a vineyard after your dog. I love my dogs and try to take them on as many trips with us as possible. I also love wine and whiskey...this is clearly my kind of place. Look, I lived in northern California circa early 2000s and I came to like robust red wines. I understand, not everyone likes that end of the wine spectrum and that is great because Bailey's has a wine variety for almost any palette. White, red, blush, dry or juicy... they have you covered. Oh, and they have a whole line of bubbles, so mimosa folks, comeon over! If wine is not your thing, they have local craft brews and walk down the hallway to the huge whiskey and restaurant space. Get a craft cocktail. You won't be disappointed. Definitely get some food too. The pizzas are my favorite, but there is a great menu for the winery and even larger menu for the restaurant inside Whiskey Run. Service is always impeccable and live music Fridays through Sundays...at least during the summer. Come out and enjoy some great food and drinks with a vineyard backdrop and fun vibe. Thanks!
Amanda T — Google review
The wine is okay, definitely better than you would expect by some of the cheesy labels and the fact a couple actually have glitter inside 😆. The food is good. The grounds are beautiful. I love the patio.

Stopped here by chance. This place is fantastic! From the wine tasting, to the wood-fired pizza and distillery, to professional staff and beautiful country scenery. We stopped in the morning just before lunch, before it was too busy and had wine and pizza but the place filled up fast. The pizza was perfect! We will definitely be adding this to our "places to go" list with every visit to New Glarus. 10 out of 10!

Located below the hotel, Ticino Pizzeria is a restaurant inspired by the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland. Its menu offers a variety of traditional Swiss dishes, including meaty options at Glarner Stubes. Puemples Old Tavern, dating back to 1893, is one of New Glarus' oldest buildings. Ticino's Pizzeria consistently delivers fabulous food with offerings such as bruschetta, house salad, and their pizza special.
The pizza basically it is very good as definitely that it is different compared to the big cities in New York and Chicago. They feel more like homey style pizza and a little town when they enjoy with your friends couple drinks and therefore it is different than most for her, but I am really enjoyed every single buy the cheesy pizza that we recommended when you are in the town And don’t miss it and you’re not gonna get disappointed
Chef R — Google review
The food was nice and the owners own interpretation of Ticino fares (quite different from what you would find in Ticino but this is not the point here). The food works for the setting and is served in generous portions. The highlight of this restaurant is the owner. My family was taken care of by an older lady that was beyond kind. She chatted us up, offered us some local cheese once she saw we were interested and even offered some little toys and candy to our children. We could see that she was genuine and really cared about offering a good experience to people coming to her place. This is the kind of place that you leave feeling warm and fuzzy.

We picked up pizza to go and took it to a nearby park because we had our dog with us. The pizza was great and the lady behind the counter was wonderful. She even gave me some treats to take out to our pup!

Cool little place, had a "polka vibe" as my wife described it. Food was good, we had breadsticks, brushetta and a couple very different pizzas and it was all really good. The waitress/bartender was an experience lol. It was kinda like Ed Debevics in a way, but she was great to talk to and had us laughing a lot.

I just moved into the area so thought I would try them out. Ordered sausage, black olives, and mushrooms. Came with pepperoni, which I don't like, no olives. So greasy it was barely edible. Quality and quantity of the ingredients, sub par. Will not return.

One of the better macaroni pizzas I’ve had was at this place. Very good food, and excellent service. The drinks are served strong, and the atmosphere is very cozy. They make it difficult to try other places in town, because they are one of the better pizza places I’ve had in Wisconsin.

My husband and I had the pleasure of eating at Ticinos Pizzeria and as always, not disappointed! Food was fabulous, having the bruschetta, house salad and pizza special. Always reliable, fresh and perfectly made. Our favorite pizza anywhere. As good as the food was, the service even better!!! Barbara was truly the best waitress that we have EVER had, personable, efficient and fun. That's why anytime we visit New Glarus we stop at Ticino's!
