I have not seen other japanese gardens or places like these so i cant make better judgement here. I visited 19 oct 2025. Trees were fairly in color. Not too cold. Wasnt too crowded either. I felt it was small and i was able to completely explore in a little more than an hour. Whole garden is stroller friendly which was nice. It was certainly a beautiful, calm serene place. I will visit again nxt year in spring

I’ve been there twice and it’s very serene there. The scenery is beautiful and when I went recently to see the fall colors it was so peaceful. You can just sit and meditate with peace and quiet. People there are very relaxed and friendly. I would highly encourage you to go there. I didn’t try the food there yet but heard that it’s very good.

What a beautiful place! I decided to spend my birthday (late September) soaking up the tranquility and serenity. This was the perfect place to roam around and enjoy all the beauty. It was very peaceful, and I love that I could take my time around the gardens, and take photos at my own pace. It was so peaceful that I felt like I was the only one there, even though it was a quite busy day. They had a wonderful area where you could eat inside also. I highly recommend adding that to your experience. They have bathrooms inside the building, as well as outside. The property is cared for and well maintained. I'd love to come back again when it isn't so hot! My phone kept giving me warning errors because of the heat, and I couldnt access my camera during those times... that is how hot it was. The heat allowed me to sit in the shade, journal, sip water and enjoy the area with zero distractions 🙂 If you love photography, and serene settings, mixed with a brilliant layout and landscaping, this is the place. Great for all ages! The colors were just starting to change. I imagine it's close to peak by now, if it hasn't peaked already. Can't wait to return. There is a lot that I didn't get to see!

Very beautiful gardens, although I wish it was a bit bigger for the price. Easily traversable in an hour without rushing. I'd like to see less grass and more ground covering plants. It was nice to see some aesthetics I recognized from my time in Japan. The teahouse is beautiful and water features are all very peaceful. It was incredibly crowded for a wedding when we were there within visiting hours, which for me made it less enjoyable because the parking lot was completely packed and many people were there to witness an event and not necessarily to enjoy the serenity of the gardens. I wish they'd hold events like they separate from park hours. (I specifically waited for people to move out of the shore to try and get less people in my photos.)

My first time here and I was blown away! I almost didn't go because I wasn't sure if it would be worth it in the Fall, but OMG that's got to be the best time to go! The way different colors of the trees were interspersed was so beautiful. I was lucky to be there when the sun was shining and the colors were so bright. I actually walked around it twice. Highly recommend visiting when the colors are at peak. My only complaint is constant traffic noise detracts from the peaceful experience, but not a lot they can do about that.

Great place, just beautiful to walk around! Went in September. Parking is free but there's an admission charge per person. The restaurant is in the buildings' entrance. We did not eat there but wished we had, especially since we spent 2 hours driving to get there. The restaurant has a very nice & comforting atmosphere. Prices appeared slightly higher than others, so we went elsewhere (big mistake). Truly a garden of heaven & a must visit place!

Beautiful place! Small but full of very pretty flowers and plants. The butterfly house is VERY small but still fun. I like that they give us a little sugar stick to be able to pick up the butterflies and see them up close. It's definitely geared towards kids. The people here were super knowledgeable and friendly. I enjoyed our visit a lot.

What a lovely place. Walking paths and beautiful swans swimming in the pond and coi fish right beneath them. Plants and trees of different sorts. There was even a 👰 and groom getting their pictures taken and what a nice place to do that. Also, a nice path that runs along the Rock River. Beautiful place.... enjoy!

3 Stars – Nice but Not Worth the Long Drive We visited the Nicholas Conservatory to see the Dino exhibit. The facility itself is well maintained, and the ticket prices are reasonable ($10 for adults, $8 for kids and seniors) and easy to purchase right at the door. The plant displays are lush, and the dinosaur figures—crafted from recycled materials—were a creative touch. That said, the conservatory is very small. If you walk straight through without stopping, you could see everything in about five minutes. The rose garden outside was pleasant but not particularly memorable. Overall, while it was a nice little stop, it definitely wasn’t worth a three-hour drive from Chicago.

Beautiful space for a walk. Walkers and cyclists also use zoom past on the Riverwalk. The Gardens are gorgeous in the summer, and roses hold on in the fall. Great spot to make a stop when in Rockford. Responsible dog owners can walk their canines. Don’t forget to explore the nooks and crannies.

The dinos made of all plant parts was really cool. The gentleman who worked that day was a wealth of info!! All staff so friendly. It's really worth your time to!

This was so great my big girls and little one all loved this Dino experience! The plants were amazing to me a gardener!

It looks bigger from the outside than it does the inside and I thought there would be a lot more plans but my toddler did enjoy the dinosaur exhibit but it did only take like 5 minutes to walk through. We were able to use our other membership to get in so thankfully we didn't have to pay because if I did I would have been disappointed. The outside is nice but it's unclear if it's all connected or if its free.

Seated right in a hallway/corridor area where all the waitresses, customers, managers, and bartender kept walking back and forth all the time. Not a great first-time dining experience! I thought the mexican soup was great. They bumbled the appetizer by bringing out a similar entree, but didn’t charge us…noticed the “sometimes we screw up” on the bar’s chalkboard. Well, fine, but I don’t think screwing up should be a virtue. The pulled pork was greasy and not edible. Was soggy too. Looked great, but don’t care how it looks all that much. My sister had the scallops. Expensive IMO $$$$ 36 for that.

It was our first visit to the Olympic Tavern, and we had high hopes. The restaurant was nice inside and out. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food fell flat in our opinion.The pretzel appetizer was ok, the mustard was more sweet than we expected. The pig candy was good, and the maple whiskey glaze was tatsy. The ribs were good, and so were the fries. The quattro mac n cheese was dry and lacked that cheesey flavor. The fish and chips were greasy and not crisp. The cod wasn't bad it was the batter and lack of salt. I feel that for the prices the food should be better. The atmosphere and service met the pricing, and the food did not.

It’s our anniversary and we wanted to try a new-to-us restaurant, so we chose The Olympic Tavern. We both ordered rib eye steak with shrimp. It was delicious! 💜 The garlic mashed potatoes did not taste very garlicky, but the potatoes were still very good. As were the seasonal veggies.😊 Dessert was a flourless chocolate torte - fabulous! Everyone we met was very friendly and the service was good. My only regret is that I did not request a nicer table. We spent our anniversary dinner sitting at a cafe table that was lined-up along a bench shared with multiple people. Not my favorite part of the evening.🫤

The food and drinks were great. We split the 20 oz prime rib and it was delicious. I loved the selection of beers on tap. My wife really enjoyed her sangria. Atmosphere was great too. Classic kind of place but upscale from what you’d expect from a local place. If we lived here, this would be easily become our regular spot. The only thing that ticked me off, and almost sent me back out the door, is the 3% surcharge for credit cards. I get why a lot of restaurants are doing this now. I’m a small business owner too. But I just eat the cost rather than play games with the pricing for particular forms of payment. I just want my clients to pay me; I don’t care how. Anyway, I’m glad we sat down because the food was exactly what we needed.

Came here for lunch. Was an early bird today being the first one to walk through the doors for the day. Had the pig candy appetizer with the whiskey honey glaze on the side. The fried pork belly was great I didn't care for the glaze. The entree I had was the bison burger. It was really good. My main complaint is the blue cheese over powered the taste of everything else. Once I removed most of the cheese I could taste the meat and veggies. And they were great. Served a large amount of fries for my side and they were tasty and crunchy.

It's Western food for breakfast and a brunch. The salmon wrap was good. The prices were reasonable. The restaurant has a great view of the garden. Very nice souvenir shop, in Japanese style. I have lived in Japan for over 3 years.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Fresco before heading into the Japanese Gardens. The restaurant was definitely busy, so I’m glad we had a reservation, it made everything smooth and stress-free. The food was absolutely delicious, from start to finish. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. The drinks were just as impressive, refreshing and well-crafted. Best of all, everything was reasonably priced, especially considering the quality and location. It was the perfect way to kick off our visit to the gardens. Highly recommend making a reservation if you’re planning to go on a busy day!

Beautiful dining area with great views of the gardens! We came for a little impromptu lunch and we were seated right away. Be careful if you sit next to the windows as the vents make it very very cold. I had the Fresco Breakfast with a half waffle and my mother had the Turkey Club, no arugula, no tomato, no fried egg. I really enjoyed the flavorful bacon, but the sausage was so heavy and greasy that I really didn’t eat it. It doesn’t say it comes with potatoes, but it does and they are very good. The turkey club is actually a hot sandwich, even though it doesn’t say that and turkey clubs should be cold. It was a bit heavy for lunch food as well. The pickle that came with the sandwich was very dry and unappetizing looking, but they are supposed to look like that according to the waiter. I wish the menu was more detailed because I don’t think it accurately depicts what you get. Also, the food is terribly expensive.

Overall, good experience. The potatos were awesome. Eggs were good. Bacon was good. Sausage was good. Pancakes and syrup were subtle in flavor. Steak and eggs were good and cooked as requested.

Would definitely not recommend this restaurant! Poor quality extremely slow service and I specifically ordered no mayo and after a 45 minute wait didn't send it back since wasn't sure how long it would take to remake. Also the bacon was like rubber obviously NOT cooked. Unfortunately this was a terrible experience and it did not live up to the hype.

We come here regularly and have been for many years. Always had great food & great service, it is one of our favorite places. This last time we came we had to walk out and go somewhere else. We sat for 30 minutes while a waitress went to tables on both sides of us. (There were probably 5 tables filled w people so not very busy yet and wait staff standing around talking to themselves ). My husband went to the hostess and ask for a waitress and was told she'd sent someone over. The waitresses stood looking over at our table and talking then left. After some more time I had decided enough waiting and gathered our things and started leaving. My husband stopped at the hostess area and told her we were not waiting any longer (close to an hour now) her reply was "Ok, sorry" and that was it!😳 We drove to Beloit to a place we had been wanting to try and had a great meal. We sent a letter and it's been 2 weeks going on 3 now and STILL NO RESPONSE. I am completely stunned w this. We've come for many years and will have to think long and hard to come back! 🤯

Very cool lake for fishing, kayaking, boating and sailing. Launch ramps and docks are in very decent shape. Like other reviewers said, only complaint would be the vault toilets. They do need to be remodeled.

Always enjoy my hikes at Rock Cut. The park is beautiful with plenty of bird life to enjoy and relaxing views to sit and enjoy on benches to rest at on our hikes. The lake is beautiful and has rental kayaks. It's a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. The park is clean and well kept and the snack shop has ample choices to have a snack or a smoothie after your day if hiking or fishing!

Rock Cut SP has so much to offer. It is a wonderful place to spend some time. We camped here for three nights during the last week of June. The people at the permit station were all very kind at check-in and the multiple times we drove thru. There are many campsites available on separate loops. Most, from what we saw, were leveled, and many had a decent amount of shade. Some were wide open and had no privacy. There are also some sites right by the lake. The bathrooms were a disappointment, however. No toilet seats? Just a toilet bowl. The showers were okay, but the shower curtains looked so dirty. The facility itself looked very old and definitely in need of updates and repairs. Also, while there are separate campground loops , there are only two flush toilets/ shower buildings. Driving around the park, we saw many picnic areas and trail heads. There are many benches situated around the lake to sit and enjoy the beautiful views. Near one of the boat launch areas, there is a concession store and cafe. We had great customer service at both. At the café we tried some smoothies, fries, and chicken nuggets. All very good. This park is undoubtedly beautiful. Unfortunately, visitors do not seem to care about it enough. We saw a lot of trash just scattered about. In one area where my husband was fishing, he filled an entire plastic bag with empty bottles he found within just a few feet. Plan to come back and explore some more!

We camped here for 4 nights. Some things were nice. Like being able to camp near the water. Others campers were very quiet that we were near. Other things could use a little more T.L.C. Like some of the pit toilets being out of toilet paper. The shower/toilet area could also use a little updating and more diligent cleaning. For the most part, we really did like our camping experience and would camp here again.

Rock Cut State Park – Illinois Rock Cut State Park offers a solid workout for those looking for a good walk or hike. The trails are well-marked with clear directions, making it easy to navigate. While the park doesn’t have an abundance of scenic viewpoints, there are a few nice spots worth stopping for. It’s a pleasant experience for outdoor exercise and a refreshing nature escape.

Nice campground but watch out for nearby dumpsters! Sites are pretty level and many are shady. Lot of big rigs in the electric loops. Dark and quiet at night at least in our loop. Hiking isn't very challenging but nice trails. Few skeeters for June.

Benefiting from being one of the only games in town definitely a decent place to come kill some time. Drawbacks the mini golf course is not maintained well. The carpet is falling apart all over the place. Other than that batting cages are fun. Laser tag is decent. Go karts are decent.

I'm not sure how many stars VF get because my grandson and I've never been before, but I wanted to take him go cart riding so that was what we did. I didn't expect it to be a small track or even a small park. There's not much to do so I got an unlimited pass which was $35 for 3hrs.! So at my age, I felt rushed! I drove the go cart because I bought myself an arm band which let's you do ONLY 3 THINGS... GO CART, LAZER TAG, AND MINI GOLF! So I wanted to get my money's worth, since I loved go cart riding in my young years, in my 60's it was a bit difficult getting up out the cart...lbvvs! Anyways, unbeknownst to me as we went to find the laser tag, we had to go through the arcade room which was not part of the wrist band, but I wanted him to enjoy himself so I spent ANOTHER $35 /200 TICKETS to play the arcade games, which were on average 6 tickets per play except one I know he played 4 or 5 times for 20 tickes each, BUT HE WON 250 on that machine! Then we did mini golf, which he really enjoyed and I did too, but it's really exhausting because there's stairs, ramps, and uneven ground! It's cute, and fun, but everyone needs to STEP CAREFULLY!!! We seen the batting cage but wasn't interested in it and there is another go cart track for little ones, and that's about it! I gave it 4☆ because everything is expensive these days and he did have fun with the golf and I with the go carts and we will go back for the game room before he goes back to his state!

The place is so amazing and breathtaking.. I wished the day would never end.. We all had a great time.. The kids were so happy.. It was worth every dollar we spent on it. thanks.

We did some of the arcade games inside, played laser tag, rode the go carts, batted in the cages (plenty fast for the boys and I), and played miniature golf as well. Staff was super friendly, the facility was clean. Laser tag course seemed a bit small and less competitive than we had hoped as we felt just a bit too close to each other during battles. Not bad enough to ding it a star though. The go karts were pretty fast, well maintained, and fun enough to go multiple times. Bottom line is that we had a great time. Very good experience!!

Went to a company picnic there. It was so fun. The mini golf course is really fun, and people of all abilities are able to play.

Miniature golf was fun, staff were great. Attended a birthday party for 9yr old. Playing video games and riding go carts made me be a big kid. Recommend birthday parties for young kids and adults going to have fun to. Enjoyed myself great place

I will be back so you know its good. Food was very tasty, the while family loved it. I do think the shakshuka should come with another slice of toast. Everyone at the table liked their food and wants to go back. Service was good, but I did not feel the most welcome as I've felt in other places. Could have been an off day, I hope next time I can give them a 5 star review.

Came here with my friend & they said they had tried to eat here about 5 diff times & they never got in! Apparently it's best if u have a reservation🤷🏽‍♂️ Thankfully we just walked in & there was availability it was about 1pm on Friday afternoon😅 I did see at night or late day you'll always need reservation to get in. I liked the decor, there wasn't much room for seating inside & there's an outside area as well which would be nice on warmer nights. I did see smokers🚬 outside so if that's not your thing beware The food was decent & the prices were average for restaurant. Big parking lot in back & I really liked that okay area for toddlers🤗 Kinda have off hippie vibes which I thought was cool & it's a nice area for family, friends, date or even business

Great place, I just happened to be in Rockford, and found this place online, it's a very nice and comfortable atmosphere to be in, it seems to be a gathering spot for neighborhood. I had breakfast, bacon, eggs, smashed fried potatoes, toast and coffee, however all of those items are at above average fare. Great meal, thick bacon, perfect fried potatoes, bakery fresh bread, tasted like homemade jam, and a great cup of coffee.

Oops, we dug into the cake before I remembered that social media eats first... but, honestly, can you blame us? We've been here twice now for brunch, and let me tell you: the food, drinks, and service never disappoint. The mimosa flight? Chef’s kiss. The dessert? I’d fight someone for it. The main course was delicious too, but I unapologetically live for dessert and Sunday brunch mimosas, and this place delivers both like a dream. Made a short day trip to Rockford to check out The Norwegian. What a delight. I ordered the Sea Bord (gravlax, smoked salmon dip, and pickled herring) and the apple chai latte. So, so fantastic. Tusen takk to the team there!

I went for lunch with some friends a few days ago and had a really bad experience at this location. We go here frequently and don't often have many issues, but that was not the case this time. We ordered our food and waited 20 minutes for it. It wasn't even hot once it came out. Many other customers appeared to be very frustrated with how long it was taking to get their food. To top it off, one of the workers was very rude to someone in our group. No one acknowledged how long the customers had waited for their food or offered an apology. It was a very disappointing experience.

Beef-A-Roo never disappoints! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and served fast. I love their burgers — juicy and perfectly cooked — and the cheese fries are a must-have every time. The staff is friendly, and the restaurant is always clean and welcoming. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing something to go, Beef-A-Roo is a great spot for a quick and satisfying meal!

Repeatedly the worst beef a roo in Rockford. Went to the one on Lexus drive for years. Never any issues. Finally start visiting the one on Auburn and they always have issues. Always long wait times. Seriously needs new management. This location is so bad.

I got the sante fe chicken salad and it had almost no chicken. The pieces were also so small, it looked like the left over cutting scraps from the chicken.

My husband and I love going to Megs Daily Grind for their lattes of the week! They always have such fun ideas and they're always SO good too! 😍 The staff are always so sweet when we go too, which is always a huge plus when finding a great coffee spot! I do wish they had more food options, but if you want a great pastry, they do have some great options for those! 🙂

We went through the drive thru while we were in town (this is my grandma's favorite place to get coffee) and it did not disappoint. Coffee was delicious, the service was fast, and the staff was super nice. Also, less expensive than Starbucks. Try their flavor of the day for lattes.

What’s up with their matcha? It was literally white. I was expecting good quality matcha but they gave me a cup of milk with sugar. I only drank it cause I didn’t want to waste it made my stomach afterward.

I’ve visited a few times. Their customer service is usually great I will say, but I’ve been disappointed in the drinks. Today I purchased a matcha latte and there was zero green color, it was completely milk colored with an intense sweetness from the syrup. There was also no sediment from the matcha, maybe they forgot it? I feel like I paid almost $7 for a cup of flavored milk…

Meg's on Perryville is definitely the best location of the 3. Absolutely love the morning crew there. They are always so cheerful and make my mornings great.

I absolutely love this place! My favorite drinks are the White Zombie and Stu's Macchiato, and I also love to try their lattes of the week; they always have fun and unique flavors! Such a great place to sit and have a coffee with a friend or study. Overall, great staff and a great place! Edit: Their muffins are some of the best muffins ever, especially the Cranberry Orange muffins!

New to the area, we recently visited Francesco's and, ironically, didn’t end up ordering any Italian dishes—so we’ll definitely need to go back and try the Italian side of the menu. I ordered the filet, and while it was cooked perfectly and wasn’t bad by any means, it just didn’t quite stand out as the best I’ve had. My husband had the prime rib, which we know is a fattier cut, but half of his portion was fat—which didn’t leave much actual meat on the plate. That said, the moose carrots were absolutely to die for. I’m already trying to figure out how to recreate them at home. The wine pairing with our meals was spot on, and the port served with dessert was impeccable. Overall, a nice evening—we’ll be back to give their Italian specialties a proper try next time!

Our dining experience at Franchesco's Ristorante was simply fantastic from start to finish. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and timed each course perfectly, ensuring we never felt rushed. The drink delivery was a bit slow maybe due to being a busy night. Now, the food – absolutely mouth-watering! We started with the recommended bruschetta appetizer, which was a delightful burst of fresh flavor. For the main course, I had the veal marsala, and it was hands-down the best I've ever had; it truly melted in my mouth. The entire experience was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to quality ingredients and traditional family recipes. Franchesco's is truly a gem and is now at the top of my list for dining in the area. Whether it's for a special occasion or just a treat, I highly recommend it for anyone seeking an extraordinary Italian meal and wonderful service.

Nice atmosphere, horrible service. My husband and I made a reservation for dinner, and although seated immediately - NO ONE came to our table, after almost 15 minutes after being seated. The restaurant was not full.... several wait staff walked past our table multiple times without even having the courtesy of acknowledging the fact that we were sitting there so long with NOTHING on our table. So we left after 20 minutes and thankfully spent nothing.... cause good money doesn't deserve to be spent on bad service. ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR CUSTOMERS.

Dear Management, Last night, we celebrated a friend’s birthday at your establishment, and while the evening began well, our experience quickly declined once the food was served. To our surprise and disappointment, the food arrived cold. We immediately voiced our concern to the staff, and the only solution offered was to “warm it up.” Considering the level of reputation your restaurant holds and the price point of your menu, this response was unacceptable. Freshly prepared meals should never require reheating upon arrival. When we addressed this matter with management, the response we received was dismissive. We were told, “Well, what do you want from me? We offered to warm it up for you.” This attitude, coupled with the lack of genuine concern for our dining experience, was both unprofessional and disappointing. A restaurant of your standing in Rockford is expected to deliver both quality food and excellent service. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of that standard. Instead of feeling valued as customers, we left highly dissatisfied. I strongly urge you to address both the quality control in your kitchen and the professionalism of your management staff. Very good restaurant with good food choices and nice atmosphere. The pizzas are well served and presented but to be honest the best dish in the group was the chicken Madeira and Linguine with prawns. The Large Burrata as starter was not a good choice, loads of jam, it was an unbalanced starter. The bread with olive oil they serve is tasty, mainly the garlic bread.

Service is top notch. We enjoy the bar or cafe/patio side for dining in. The bartenders and wait staff are excellent. The food is always fresh and delicious. We had one bad experience with a steak that was just not seared and poorly cooked, however, we have had 10 outstanding experiences to that one. One of our favorite restaurants in Rockford!

Worst sushi we’ve ever tried. Bland steak hibachi tastes like left overs. The rice was basically flavorless mush. Sushi rolls were primarily fish flavor like what you’d expect out of canned tuna, no real profile or nuance between rolls. The only decent roll was the fried shrimp temp roll which was only a step above gas station. Do not recommended wasting your time or money.

I got this sushi delivered. First time trying the place. They were quick, which is nice. The Rangoon was fine, and soup was okay. But when I ate the sushi, I literally spit it out. The fish was warm and chewy, which considering the salmon is not smoked, is a HUGE red flag. I’ve eaten good and bad sushi in my time, but this was awful

I recently had the pleasure of trying the beef ramen bowl at Fuji Cajun and it was an absolute delight! The beef ramen bowl was a perfect blend of rich flavors that left me wanting more. The broth was savory and had just the right amount of depth, while the beef was tender and flavorful. The noodles were cooked to perfection, providing a satisfying texture to every bite. One thing that truly stood out was the portion size - it was incredibly generous! The bowl was loaded with ample amounts of beef, noodles, and vegetables, making it a fantastic value for the price. Fuji Cajun doesn't skimp on portions, ensuring that you leave feeling both satisfied and content. The cozy atmosphere of the fast-casual restaurant added to the overall experience, making it a great spot to enjoy a delicious meal. If you're a fan of hearty and flavorful dishes, the beef ramen bowl at Fuji Cajun is an absolute must-try. I can't wait to go back and explore more of their menu!

Great place for dine in or take out. We have done both and the food is fresh and flavorful both ways. This visit we ordered the salmon poke bowl and shrimp bento box.

This place is pretty great. The sushi was good. The bento box was packed and offered a choice of noodles or rice which I really appreciated. The bonus prize was that they opened up early and had a drive through so I didn’t have to worry about my furry passenger being an issue for pickup. Friendly service and tasty food. Glad we found this place.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from drive through sushi but I was intrigued. I did anticipate more Cajun flavor, but I was impressed regardless. I got an egg roll and the Spicy Girl Roll. Both were good with just enough flavor to stand out from other places. When I’m in need of a hearty meal in a hurry, I’ll come back here!
