Nature & Parks
Park
Taughannock Falls State Park is a must-visit destination with its impressive 215-foot waterfall and miles of picturesque hiking trails. The park offers various outdoor activities including camping, beach swimming, fishing, and winter sports. Nearby attractions such as Finger Lakes National Forest, Buttermilk Falls State Park, and Robert H. Treman State Park provide additional opportunities for outdoor recreation and natural beauty.
In my road trip exploring upstate New York I decided to stop by Taugannock Falls. I saw pictures online and it looked pretty cool so I told myself I'll stop by. I was not ready for how absolutely stunning this park is. Walking to the falls itself is quite easy and the whole way there you have a breathtaking view of the mighty gorge. I was essentially looking at a wall of rock hundreds of feet high. It was stunning to see such a site especially in the northeast. Usually something like this is out in Utah or Arizona. I got to the end of the trail and was absolutely in awe of how beautiful the landscape was. The falls itself was stunning albeit not a lot of water was falling when I visited. But just being surrounded by natural walls hundreds of feet high was magical. It makes you really appreciate mother nature. Don't forget to drive a quick few minutes to the upper view! It's a minute walk to the vantage point from the parking lot and is just as striking!

This is a dramatically scenic set of trails! We hiked the Rim Trail and enjoyed spectacular views of the gorge and the falls. Be prepared for a challenging walk with a lot of elevation change. We did the Rim Trail clockwise, but the park actually advises going counter-clockwise for a more gradual climb. We learned why the hard way: the start of the clockwise route is a very steep rise with lots of steps. Trust the park's advice—it would have been less effort to hike it the recommended way! A quick note: we couldn't hike the Gorge Trail because it closes mid-October, so keep that in mind when planning your visit. The Rim Trail itself is well-marked and fenced, so there's no danger of accidentally getting near the edge. Overall, the views are truly stunning and worth the effort.

We had a wonderful visit to Taughannock Falls State Park. We started with the Gorge Trail, which was an easy, clean, and very enjoyable walk with beautiful scenery along the way. It’s perfect for a relaxed hike and offers great views. We also tried the North Trail, which is more challenging since it’s mostly uphill, but it was a nice way to get some exercise and see the park from a different perspective. The only downside was that the falls themselves were lacking water during our visit. The park ranger mentioned that June is the best time to see them at their fullest, so we’ll definitely plan to come back then. Overall, it’s a lovely park with well-maintained trails and a peaceful atmosphere—definitely worth a visit!
Jian B — Google review
Amazing state park. The gorge trail for this park in my opinion is a lot better than the Watkin glens trail. There is a big water fall at the end. Very great scenic views. The trail itself is very wide and easy to walk. There's less people and a smaller, fuller waterfall near the beginning.
Erik Z — Google review
Nice place for hiking or walking with kids. Trial to the falls are very easy and flat. Prapobly you need about one hour to complete the hiking, depending on your speed. But is worth it falls on the end are very nice. When I was there water level was pretty low. Will be even better when we get much more water flow.
Andrzej — Google review
This park has some nice trails. One of the trails leads to a gorgeous, tall waterfall that is an easy hike. There is an overlook of the falls that you can drive to. There is a small gift shop that dis not have power when we arrived so we couldn't buy a souvenir. That was sad but overall, it was a great day.
Christine G — Google review
The park itself is great, but the information is poor. There are no trail maps, hiking trails are poorly marked. It's hard to make a hiking plan as you don't know what to expect. Maybe some change in the park management would help.
Piotr K — Google review
Taughannock Falls State Park, near Ithaca in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York, is home to a magnificent waterfall that plunges 215 feet—making it one of the highest east of the Rockies. For travelers, the Gorge Trail offers an easy, accessible half-mile walk that leads directly to the breathtaking falls overlook, perfect for all skill levels. Alternatively, the North Rim Trail provides spectacular, elevated views of both the gorge and the falls from above. Don't forget to explore the park's other amenities, including swimming, picnicking, and access to Cayuga Lake. Parking fee:10$ Entrance: free

Scenic spot

Taughannock Falls State Park near Ithaca in the Finger Lakes Region offers a magical camping experience under the stars. For those who prefer more comfort, there's a Victorian inn with stylish rooms and breathtaking views of Cayuga Lake and the park. The park is home to the tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi River, offering a fairly easy hike along the gorge trail to see the beautiful falls up close.
Stunning waterfall !! It’s a short walk from the parking lot. There is a parking fee of $9 to be paid before entering the parking lot. View of the waterfall at the end of the trail is amazing. I had visited during both summer and winter days, it’s beautiful. Please be on the trail and do not take any detours. I believe it’s doable with kids too.. Top rated 👍🏼
Shreenidhi — Google review
Great spot with an easy hike to see the over 200 ft waterfall. There is a small fee at the state park, but it is by the vehicle and not by individual. It's also a good spot for bird watching.

Had a really good experience. The trail was well maintained and clean. The views are spectacular.

Beautiful area, and the falls are the taller than Niagara Falls. They weren't flowing very strong from lack of rain in the area but still a beautiful sight! Love the glacier walls and wildflowers in the area. Wish we had seen the Peregrine Falcons nesting nearby, but maybe next time.

Worked on a bridge there really pretty park and wow some amazing view from the new bridge

Very busy and hard to find parking. Waterfall looks great but all you need is 10 minutes to glance. Would recommend for one time visit nit much else to do.

We just did the look out which was very beautiful. If we go back, I would do the 1 mile hike too. We had a 1 yr old baby with us though and this was towards the end of our day trip so opted to drive to the viewing spot. Worth the visit.

Lookouts
The Taughannock Falls Overlook Visitors Center is a convenient starting point for exploring the area. From here, visitors can easily access the bike/walking path leading to the children's water play area and then follow the trail alongside the creek, over railroad tracks, and underneath the highway. The overlook offers stunning views of the 215-foot falls, providing a majestic experience. Additionally, there are three trails available for exploration and opportunities for picnics or barbecues by the lake.
This is the most beautiful place. I cried the very first time I saw it. Go in March to see the falls at their fullest. Fall is beautiful for scenery! Winter is awesome! The Overlook is open all year!

If I could give 10/10 stars I would! Not only is this an amazingly beautiful view and hike but the staff are also incredible! Jody at the visitor center is the best!!!! helped me locate and returned a necklace I had lost last weekend, I am so grateful and look forward to going again this season :) thank you again!
Danielle J — Google review
If you visit the state park or the falls trail, definitely stop at the overlook to get a bird's eye view of the falls. Also, stop at the visitor's center. The staff is awesome and there are some great souvenirs.
Christine G — Google review
This is a great place to view the falls from the top, and offers some hiking trails around the rim. It has a gift shop and flushing toilets. No fees for parking, but it is a small parking lot. We hiked the multi day use trail that is a loop (a little over a mile) featuring an old furnace and so different views of the falls. It was a little buggy in the woods.
Samantha T — Google review
A high up view of the main waterfall and a very small gift shop. I was able to buy a magnet and take some pictures of the waterfall from here, but even this was busy and hard to find a parking spot.
Alex B — Google review
The water flow is very low, but the fall color makes it beautiful. I had an amazing experience at the visitor center. The staff was genuinely nice and went above and beyond to provide me with the details I was looking for.

Stopped here on our way through the Finger Lakes of New York State. We were going to head into the State Park that would also include Cayuga Lake but decided to head to the overlook. It was very easy to find but by afternoon parking was limited. There are great views of the Falls from up here. I imagine from the park you can cross the road and hike a little to the base of the falls. From the overlook you can truly take in the majesty of this falls. At 215 feet it is awesome to see.
Jason C — Google review
I live here and I still visit on bike every weekend weather permitting. Not a food destination. Views of the falls and gorges are great. 2 mile hike around the falls. Simple walk up to the falls from ground zero. Cayuga lake across the street. Don't miss it. A wonderful peaceful place.

Fairground
Trumansburg Fair Associates hosts a week-long family event with various attractions and activities. The fair offers clean and convenient facilities, although there is a need for more seating areas, especially near the kiddie rides. Despite low attendance in recent years, the fair still provides an enjoyable experience with highlights such as demolition derby races. Visitors appreciate the option to purchase wristbands online for quick entry and are allowed to bring their own food due to dietary restrictions.
The pirate show was great and the demolition derby was awesome!

Trumansburg fair is a fun family week-long event. Bathrooms are great! It is nice to not have to use a portapotty. They do need more benches and picnic tables spread around, especially by the kiddie rides. Grandparents and parents need places to rest while the kids play. Happy parents spend more money. Advertising and information on the Facebook page was poorly done this past year. And there should be 2 nights with midnight madness ride bracelets. Vendors and carnival folks were great. Demo and races were awesome! Thank you Trumansburg Fair Grounds.

$20 to park???? You’re crazy!!!!! My kids went with friends to get ride wristbands and dinner. After paying the $20 to park they couldn’t afford the wristbands which were $25. So $55 for the kids to ride rides. $10 for a plate of loaded fries. Then after paying the $20 to get in, the tractor pulls were extra to watch. What a rip off!!!! The state fair is cheaper!!!!
Christina B — Google review
My family goes every year and we always have a blast. This year, I purchased our wristbands online and everything went quickly and smoothly the day we arrived at the gate. I have diet restrictions, I appreciate they allow you to bring your own food and drinks. More money for games and shopping! Thank you for coming to Tburg!
Princess P — Google review
Cost way to much I do not know how a camily could afford to go each ride was 3 or 4 tickets 1.25 a ticket say you had 2 or3 kids to get in was 5 dollars. Then for any car demo 6 or food was small they just need to plan it not the week of State Fair.

Falls Restaurant & Catering, a beloved establishment in Trumansburg since 1988, is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. Whether you're in the mood for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner, this family-owned restaurant has got you covered. The menu features classic diner fare as well as creative additions and a rotating selection of specials. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make it a welcoming place to enjoy a meal any time of day.
We stopped in at Falls Restaurant after spending the morning exploring the trails at Taughannock Falls. What a wonderful surprise. You’ll be hard pressed to find an establishment like this out in the wild these days, but the Falls has been around since 1988. A great little spot with ample seating, great staff, and a menu of homemade breakfast and lunch items. We got the tuna melt, Falls harvest salad, and homemade creamy cauliflower soup and it was all absolutely delicious. Excellent service, both the bartender and our server were so sweet. Stop in for a delicious home cooked meal and you won’t regret it.
Evan S — Google review
Do not get the fish 😒 was just looking for a quick bite while in the area hiking. Saw tons of people in the morning there so decided to stop in for late lunch. Not what we expected on the inside. Bar area was the only spot open to eat, the regular dining area was closed off. The bar area has a dark dirty atmosphere, very different from the rest of the restaurant. The fish and chips was disgusting, burnt geasy hockey pucks with very little fish and a ton of greasy breaded coating. Cousin loved the macaroni salad tho. Ladies were nice, just not attentive to customers. I wouldn't be back

Falls Restaurant is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and a cozy atmosphere. The menu offers a fantastic variety, and every dish we tried was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Service was prompt and attentive without ever feeling rushed, which made the whole experience even better. The attention to detail, from presentation to taste, truly sets this place apart. Whether you’re stopping in for a casual meal or a special occasion, Falls Restaurant delivers every time. Highly recommend!

Nice diner type restaurant. Homemade bread looked very good on the sandwiches. My mother-in-law ordered the carrot cake which she liked. I did not see nor were we offered kids menus. The waitress did bring a coloring book and crayons for the kids to color in which was nice but not everyone would appreciate that it was already colored on most pages. But the restaurant was cozy and clean, wait staff was friendly and food was good enough.

We stopped here for breakfast before hiking to the falls. Great food, but the best was our waitress, Denise. Wonderful sense of humor and she gave us some info about the falls.

Frontenac Point Vineyard & Estate Winery is located on the southwest side of Cayuga Lake, offering a panoramic view from its spacious deck. Visitors can enjoy the sight of a coal-fired power plant on the eastern shore and a 10-foot-tall kinetic sound sculpture called Stay Sail. The vineyard is highly regarded for its professional management by Jim, Carol, and their son Larry. Guests praise the diverse selection of wines, comparing them to those from California and Europe.
All of the wines were great, we really enjoyed doing a flight of each type of wine and tasting them all. Plus the view from the deck is gorgeous. Overall a great experience, we'd recommend stopping in for a tasting!

I went for a tasting recently and had a great time! The owners were interacting with customers, the service was amazing and the environment was comfortable. The servers took time to explain about the wine and the view from the deck is amazing! The prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend!

Stopping in for the first time we were greeted warmly and with honesty of the wine selection being mostly dry. We were offered to try a couple before committing to a full tasting/flight, as we prefer sweet wines. Deciding it wasn’t for us, Lawrence was extremely understanding and even helpful recommending sweeter wines locations nearby. Although we did not drink here, the customer service was amazing and deserves recognize. And for those who DO prefer dry wines, the views are beautiful from the deck!

Tucked away in the scenic beauty of Upstate New York, not far from Cornell/Ithaca, this charming winery offers a relaxing and memorable experience for wine lovers of all kinds. From the moment you arrive, the peaceful surroundings and sweeping views set the tone for a perfect visit. The tasting room is welcoming and unpretentious, with knowledgeable staff who are happy to guide you through the selection. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or just discovering wine, there's something here for everyone. One of the highlights is the spacious outdoor deck, which offers panoramic views of Cayuga Lake and rolling hills. It's the perfect spot to sit back with a glass of wine, enjoy the breeze, and take in the natural beauty that makes Upstate New York so special. Whether you're touring the Finger Lakes, or visiting friends and/or family in Ithaca or any of the lovely surrounding towns, this winery is definitely worth a stop!

Before placing an order, take a look at the images displaying the sizes of the cones at Not My Dad's Ice Cream. The portions are generous, to say the least. A popular choice among customers is the root beer float with coffee ice cream. It's worth mentioning that when adding ice cream to soda, if too much soda is poured into the cup, it can cause an overflow and spill onto your hand.
It's one of the best places you can get ice-cream locally. I highly recommend. The outdoor seating is nice. Really close to a lot of great parks and other interesting things in Trumansburg.

Went here by accident which turned out as a delightful accident to stop by for refreshing treats. I ordered the Bubble Gum hard ice cream over a cone – not my usual flavor but my gut said so. And I love it!! Not too sweet, just right and the color was super cute. We sat on the bench near the stall. Oh, they only accept cash so far if I'm not mistaken.

Great little shop, stopped right on the way back from Taughhannock Falls. They have a nice selection of flavors (I went for the Mocha Chip), as well as Dole Whip and snack foods. Seating is limited with social distancing, but the line, with its six-foot markings, was very easy to follow. Nice to visit a roadside ice cream shop!

Great ice cream and good value
Mikey R — Google review
Totally worth a trip ! The menu is fun with a playful assortment of soft serves and hard choices and it’s all delicious. While the ice cream alone is definitely worth a trip, the owner and staff are exceptionally kind and generous making the visit that much sweeter. Just remember your cash! (Or checks). They don’t take credit cards. Bottom line, be sure to weave a stop in on your next trip to T’burg or go out of your way to get here. It’s a unique little spot.
Erin M — Google review
I am a frequent visitor of this establishment. I have never had a problem in the past, and always came back. This time when I was here, the staff was extremely rude and condescending. I requested two flavors in one cup and apparently that was not allowed. Instead of accommodating me, the staff was rude and asked me to step aside and make room for other customers. I am extremely disappointed in the way I was treated. This used to be my favorite, and I am sad that the quality of service has declined so drastically since my last visits. Their ice cream continues to be good, but the staff could use some retraining in my personal opinion.
Gracesbig U — Google review
It's a nice quiet place to go. The staff was friendly. The ice cream was already melting by the time we got it but it was really warm outside anyway. We'd probably go back again if we are in the area. The baby size cones are super tiny and cute. They are the perfect size for a toddler
Brandy Y — Google review
Ok before ordering check out the pictures of the sizes of the cones. The portions to say the least are very ample. My favorite is the root beer float with coffee ice cream! Let me say this about the float as well, when the ice cream is added to the soda, if the cup has too much soda, the reaction can over flow the contents right out of the cup, and over your hand. Apparently this is not their first ice cream stand! So the preparer only fills the cup half full of root beer, and then give you the rest of the can to add to your float at your own jeopardy. This is just one small detail and added value and bang for your buck! The staff are always cheerful and upbeat. Even when they're busy, service is very swift, and you never have a very long wait to enjoy your treat!

Great experience! The store was clean, including the bathroom. Service was quick and efficient. The AC was also on and working well, which made it a comfortable stop on a hot day

Worst subway experience ever, and I've been to Subways across the country for many years. I had to tell them to retoast the slimy pink bacon, and was explicitly told an aggressive NO when I wanted extra olives, and that he was only allowed to give me 6-8 olive slices on my footlong sub. He still didn't want to give me extra even if I paid extra but we eventually settled on an upcharge for extra olives, after he said this "isn't a buffet, mam". It clearly states in the subway rules that if the customer wants extra veggies, they get extra veggies(without an upcharge by the way)...what a strange and frustrating thing for him to be so passionate about, especially since i would have been happy to pay if he just said that instead of NO absolutely not. He was beyond rude, and threw my sandwich together haphazardly after the olive conversation without giving me a chance to add any other toppings...and was mean to his employee while he was at it. Nasty horrible service, the eating space is very small, dated and could definitely be cleaner.

Male employee working tonight turned us away with an attitude 20+ min before closing. Pretty disappointing experience. Although the girl that works usually is great

Many lunches here. Good salad. OK price . Salad fairly small. Usually very fresh.

We stopped in very near closing time, the young lady who was working, took our 3 sub order with a smile & grace! The subs are good, fresh & maybe taste that much better with high quality customer service!

They had 15$ parking at this location for a festival. Before we parked we asked a lady who took our money how much the festival was and she didn't know. As soon as we parked we asked how much the festival cost from another person and found out it was 160$ for 2 adults which we could not afford. We asked for our 15$ back because we parked for literally (no exaggeration) for 1 minute and turned around the car without getting out. Lady who was the manager in a pink shirt refused to give the money back said "no refunds" and was extremely rude. It was a very disappointing experience.

Ask to change gloves after handling raw food and going in the back touching other items lady got upset states she's a nurse on 4/29/23. People kill me like Im in the wrong for telling her to change gloves got nasty and crazy like I asked her to do something wrong. LOL that's just like going from patient to patient with the same gloves on. SMH. They just saved me some money. I would never eat here or recommended this place you will get sick they don't change gloves.

This is kind of a last resort option for us when we done feel like cooking. It's mostly the staff that's the issue. We went in a while back about 15 to 20 mins before posted closing time and we're turned away. The last time I went the woman working got out of her car and went inside just as I pulled in...smoking in her car, most likely. I did see her wash her hands bit still. Yuck. Always clean inside though.

Italian restaurant
Pizza restaurant
Little Venice Trumansburg is a down-to-earth restaurant and bar that offers a mix of American and Italian cuisine, including weekly specials. The spot is popular among locals for its full bar and 50-item salad bar, which features brick-oven pizza, homemade soup, baked pasta, and chili at an affordable price. Their pastas are made on-site with local eggs, sauces are freshly prepared, and they serve burgers made from their own daily double-ground Angus beef.
Our B&B host recommended this place 7 miles away and it was worth the drive! Had the homemade chicken alfredo and I felt like I was back in Italy: amazing! Kids options were plenty and wait staff was busy but managed the tables well at prime time for dinner.

We wanted to try Italian food and came across this place baed in google reviews. We thought of giving it a try. The food was good and salad bar was really good. It is a worth a visit

Little Venice is a great neighborhood bar with a fun atmosphere and friendly, funny staff that make you feel welcome right away. The smash burger was really tasty, solid bar food that hits the spot. Definitely the kind of place you want to have nearby for a casual night out.

Friendly service, but the food missed the mark. Our Margherita pizza was undercooked in the center due to watery tomato sauce everything slid off the slice. The garlic knots were decent but could’ve been crispier. They gave us a $5 discount, which we appreciated, but we came for good pizza 😕

We ordered two sheet pizzas, one gluten free pizza, and 8 dozen wings for our wedding setup and rehearsal at Silver Queen Farm (another awesome T-burg establishment). We had never tried this place, but had heard good things and decided to give it a shot. Everything was very good and the service inside when we came to pick up was friendly and inviting. Our setup helpers (23 people) all delivered favorable reviews of the food. We will definitely be getting pizza and wings here again for birthdays and other events.

The LV Penne was delicious! I appreciate the different kinds of lettuce in the salad bar. Would definitely go again!

Love this place. Wings were great, chicken parm was a huge portion and delicious! Cocktails were good- “pasta red” wine was a bit sweet but the salad bar was really a great deal! Would come back!
Allison B — Google review
The salad bar option was plentiful with a lot of variety and three soups, as well as garlic knots. After a day of hiking we also ordered entrees, which were both delicious and generous (Shrimp Portofino and LV Penne). Would give staff 12/10 of possible, and will definitely revisit Little Venice Trumansburg when returning to this area.
