Historic Sites
Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump World Heritage Site in Alberta, Canada, is a UNESCO site that preserves 6,000 years of Plains Buffalo history. The Blackfoot people used the cliffs near Fort Macleod to hunt buffalo by herding them up the hill and causing some to go over the cliff's edge. The interpretive center offers well-presented displays and films about this cultural heritage.
Such an amazing place to visit! The site is beautiful with stunning scenic views — but be prepared for extremely windy conditions at the top. Make sure to check the hours, as they close early, so plan your visit accordingly. One tip for after your visit: when exiting, avoid turning right as the road is very rough, almost off-road with lots of rocks — not suitable for a sedan. Instead, take the left turn to reach the highway for a safer and quicker drive.

Great place to visit. Took about an hour to do the whole heritage site. Unique heritage site with tons of info on the buffalo jump. One of my favorite parts is the building itself. Built into the side of the cliff, it's architecturaly very fascinating. Great views from the cliff of the prairies and the Old Man River.

The World Heritage Site: Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump After a long week of work, we finally had the chance to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, just a 2-hour drive from Calgary. No booking required! Simply pay the entrance fee and enjoy the fascinating exhibits. It’s a place rich in history, offering insight into how Indigenous people survived and thrived in this cold and challenging environment. You’ll learn about traditional hunting methods, culture, and resilience. A must visit, especially for families with kids! It’s a meaningful way to teach children about the remarkable ways people adapted and lived in harmony with nature.

Woow. Magnificent place. I heard about it long time ago but had no chance to visit till last weekend and it was worth for such long drive. Knowing the history of the place and native culture goes back to 6000 years. Mind blowing for me. Also, layer by layer display of the soil which contains buffalo remains in last 6000 years, stunning. I have more respect to the native people than before after visiting and learning one of their sacred place.

🦬 Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump – A Powerful Connection to the Past—We’ve visited Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump a few times over the years, and each time it gets better. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable—they really bring the history to life. The site is well-maintained, and the washrooms were clean, which is always appreciated. This year, we noticed some new features added since our last visit, which made the experience feel fresh. They offer family packages and discounted rates for veterans and their families, which is a thoughtful touch. No need to book in advance—we walked in on a weekend and had no issues, even with tour buses coming through. 🐾 Heads-up for pet owners: Dogs aren’t allowed inside the interpretive centre, but there’s a shaded waiting area outside where you can sit with your pup. They even provide water bowls, which was a kind gesture. ✅ Tip: If you’re heading south from Pincher Creek or exploring the Waterton area, this is a must-stop. It’s not just a museum—it’s a place to reflect, learn, and connect with Indigenous history in a meaningful way.
RAB P — Google review
Super friendly staff and a clean, well maintained building and trails. I did the trails to the kill site, and met a deer along the way. Educational tour. I had no idea the excavation of the site discovered the site had been used for about 6000-7000 years! Very cool.
Toni — Google review
This was an incredible experience. The indigenous people of this land had systems and processes in place for thousands of years that have been adapted and still used today. They were resourceful, environmentally aware, deeply spiritual and then white man came along. I was so moved by the story and impressed by the visitor centre and how they honoured the stories. Great building, great staff and well worth the visit.
Matthew M — Google review
Very interesting site, for those with a curiosity about the culture of Canada's Indigenous population. You can get through the whole interpretive center in about an hour. Make sure you go to the theater and watch the short 15 minute film about the buffalo herd cliff stampede. Then at the end you can grab a cap or tshirt that says 'Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump'. Not everyone has one of those. A guaranteed conversation starter. If the weather permits take a short stroll to see the cliffs just outside the center.

The Empress Theatre, a historic landmark in Fort MacLeod, has been entertaining audiences since 1912. Originally an opera house, it now hosts movies and local drama performances. The dressing room walls are adorned with the names of past performers, dating back to the 1920s. Despite its age, the theatre continues to attract visitors with its friendly staff and diverse shows. Some find the vintage seating uncomfortable but appreciate the nostalgic atmosphere.
We drove from Cardston to see Clue. What an awesome historic theatre! All the seats are good seats. The only issue was we decided to go last minute and the online tickets shut off a couple hours before the play starts and no one answers the phone. We didn't want to drive an hour if there were no tickets available. Thankfully we knew someone in the cast and were able to get confirmation that there were some tickets left at the last minute. There were two lady's working the box office so I'm not sure why there couldn't be someone answering the phone for same day ticket sales.

The Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod is a beautiful historic venue that shows movies, hosts amazing concerts with fabulous acoustics and serves the best popcorn!!
Lynne P — Google review
Great spooky place. Popcorn is pretty good too. Watched a free screening of 'Tales From the Rez'. Very quality production, great cast. The theater itself is a throw back through time. Almost feels like someone watching you down stairs. Great venue for all kinds of productions.

Had a great time at the theatre here with my family. Beautifully preserved.

Smallish, cozy theater seats, maybe 200 people. It is old but has been kept up. It is clean and the staff are friendly. If you can tune in to the spirits from the other side, there are a few here. If you know, you know.

First time to any events. Awesome employees are so nice and friendly. Super great show, and we got to dance. Mocking shadows play a wonderful gig. So joyful and uplifting. Thank you all!!!

We've been wanting to see a show at the historic Empress Theatre for some time and were not disappointed. What an Alberta gem! The staff/volunteers were bend-over-backward friendly and helpful, and we loved the show, a tribute to Ian Tyson's music. I agree with a previous reviewer that the seats aren't very comfortable but I'm thinking they're a lot better than the samples of precious seats on display down in the green room. 😊 Even though the same show was playing in nearby Calgary, it was worth the 2-hour drive to see it at The Empress. We'll be back!

Production of The Music Man was professional and showed amazing talent on every level. Plus, I was so impressed with the children's participation in this program. Great to see the opportunity for experience and exposure to theater!!

Digbee’s Diner in Fort Macleod has become a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. The diner offers weekly breakfast specials and daily lunch specials that never fail to impress. Customers rave about the clubhouse sandwich, eggs Benedict, French toast, BLT, and Clubhouse - all of which are prepared with care and served at reasonable prices. The cozy atmosphere adds to the overall dining experience. Visitors have praised the friendly service and highlighted the delicious hollandaise sauce on their Eggs Benny.
We had fun. Food was brought out in a timely manner. They do have gluten free bread options.

Although I live out of town, I like to stop here for a leisurely breakfast or lunch. The menu is small but so far every item I have ordered here has been very good. The service is excellent and I love the open space that they occupy...

Absolutely wonderful Gluten Free Breakfast, bacon, and cheese omelet with hashbrowns and toast. Owner and staff knowledgable and yes they use a gluten-free toaster. Everything is cooked safely. Thank you for the fantastic service and the incredible food . We will be back!
Tosha B — Google review
Atmosphere was good. Unfortunately, the breakfast I got tasted awful. The meats tasted like they were either microwave or cooked on an incredibly dirty grill. When I mentioned that the food made me feel ill, the waitress just took my plate and ignored the concern and made no effort to make it right. While I personally won't be going back, I do love that it's connected to a nice collection of small shop owners that get support from those coming for food.

Quaint diner serving great breakfasts and light lunches. Stopped here on the way through and the BLT and the Clubhouse were great, fresh and simple homemade food, and very reasonable prices. Be sure to stop in!
David B — Google review
I gave this place 3 stars for the following reasons: Service 5/5 Amazing owners who run the store, who are very kind and talkative. The service is quite fast as well! Food 3/5 The restaurant serves Chinese-Western fusion dishes, and personally I found the food to be quite normal. Of course, the dishes were alright, but to compare the quality I would say the taste is similar to Chinese buffet dishes that you will often find in Canada. Personally, I would have appreciated more seasoning and flavour (such as spice) in most of the dishes, as well as more variety on the menu. Interior 4/5 I enjoyed the vintage and retro interior of the store, as it really fit in with the rest of the shops along the street. The interior is spacious and welcoming, and the seats are quite comfortable. It can accommodate large groups.

Stopped in after seeing Clue at the Empress. It's been awhile since I've been here. We just got an appetizer platter. Decent food, service was really good. Thanks for being open later so we didn't have to go to McDonald's!

Four great stars of epicness and awesomeness. Food was delicious, the staff were so kind. The only thing that I put an O.K. rating for was the atmosphere, but that doesn't matter when the food is great. (Photo added: My plate once held the mythical Spicy Chicken Burger, but I had devoured the capsaicin-sauced poultry sandwich before taking this photo.)

Specialty Museums
The Fort Museum, established in 1957, is a significant site dedicated to preserving the history of the NWMP and First Nations People. It proudly hosts the world-famous NWMP Musical Ride since 1973. The museum offers informative displays showcasing the history of the NWMP/RCMP and their way of life in the rugged western frontier. Visitors can also enjoy interactive experiences such as climbing towers, petting animals, and experiencing live music during the musical ride.
An underrated place you must visit. You can pay to groom your horse and learn about them. Then you are taken for a ride on your horse. Our family of 8 went. Some of us have never been so close to horses before but it was well worth the experience in petting them to actually seeing them as harmless and quite friendly. The Fort is a must. As there is a lot of Blackfoot history in the museum along with many artifacts from others as well. ALL the workers from inside to the trainers were really friendly and made it all wonderful. They work very hard and it shows. Our family are really happy to have met them and have this experience.

We stopped by the Fort Museum Trading Post Gift Shop and were so impressed! There’s such a great mix of clothing, shoes, unique gifts, and souvenirs. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the renovations made it much easier for my mother-in-law to get around. So glad they’re open year-round now — we’ll definitely be back and already got our membership! And they have goats to pet!

This place is awesome. Such a great history lesson. Exhibits are very informative and lots of neat things to see. Staff are amazing here and very helpful and friendly. My lil one really liked climbing the towers, petting the goats and horses and really enjoyed the music that went with the musical ride. Would definitely take him there again.

Thus was such a buzz for me having grown up watching movies and shows with these iconic Forts. It is a very cool display and re-creation/restoration of the original Fort.
Matthew M — Google review
Complete waste of time. Way over priced for a zero maintenance. Bunch of trash! Don’t get me wrong I’m all for preserving history. But that pile of rubbish. Isn’t worth the viewing! Maybe they should really consider. Preserving their artifacts! Very disappointing! And frankly disrespectful!

CPF Alberta & NWT hosted a day of educational programming here at the Fort Museum. The Fort Museum provided an unforgettable day for our group, immersing participants in the fascinating history of the North West Mounted Police and the region. The staff were friendly, organized, and willing to share their knowledge with the help of a translator, making the experience both educational and fun. Our group loved the authentic displays and interactive elements, and the atmosphere made it easy to imagine life in the fort’s early days. The museum team’s hospitality and attention to detail helped make our program a success, and we highly recommend this venue for group visits, school programs, and cultural events.

Johnny's Restaurant is a charming family-owned establishment with a rich historical ambiance. The restaurant is well-maintained, bright, and exudes a friendly atmosphere. Despite being small, the single server efficiently attends to all customers. The food may not be extraordinary but it's far from the typical flashy and overly sweet dishes found elsewhere. Visitors praise the cleanliness of the restaurant and commend the hosts for their kindness and graciousness.

Ordered pizza, cheese bread and wings. Cheese bread was great, pizza has a sweeter taste (which personally I’m not the biggest fan of), wings were good! Pizza even though the flavour wasn’t my personal preference it was cooked perfectly, toppings and cheese were great! We would stop in again on our way through :) Service was friendly.

Everything inside this restaurant is sticky. Gross. Inside and outside the place, coolers, sticky. Countertop and tables, sticky brushed off not washed. Open concept kitchen. Pizza crust was good, food was not as ordered, Greek Pizza had no meat at all. No salt was used. Bucket for tips said tips are appreciated. Wash your restaurant.

The pizza is good if you are someone who is appreciates tasty crust. There is a lot of dough relative to the number of toppings that you get. My kids love the the cheese and pepperoni but I personally prefer a pizza with more sauce, cheese and toppings. I find alternatives have a better value when it comes to quantity and quality of toppings. The owner is very kind and is a great asset in the community. He regularly donates pizza to different organizations and events and is a very positive influence in town.

What a beautiful park!!! Lovely trees and landscaping. Waterpark for the kids, and kids at heart! Great playground equipment. Picnic tables and washrooms. Has it all. We grabbed a sandwich and enjoyed a little picnic in this lovely park.

Great stop place with the kids, the playground and splash park will keep them busy. Shaded shelter available with picnic tables. Washrooms available and lots of benches.

Good I think the spray area should have rubber matting ,for when kids slip an fall not so dangerous. Otherwise it's great.

Chinese restaurant
Silver Grill Restaurant offers a diverse menu with both Western and Chinese options. The restaurant has a clean and inviting atmosphere, although it can be challenging to get the server's attention during busy times. Customers have enjoyed dishes such as ginger beef, broccoli, Singapore rice stick, hung po chicken, and mushroom chop suey. The portions are generous and the staff is accommodating to dietary restrictions such as gluten-free meals. Overall, visitors appreciate the delicious food and excellent service at Silver Grill Restaurant.
Delicious place to eat.. a blessing to put good food in your tummy 😋.. God bless you on your steps and your journey !!!

This place is COMPLETELY over priced and the quality and portions of food do not match the price!! We had the dinner for two for 51$ and added salt & pepper squid to the meal. The salt and pepper squid cost us 29$ !!!!! I wouldn’t recommend this place and definitely won’t be back. The pictures was 86$

My grand daughter did not enjoy the flavour of the sauce on her meal and are nothing. The seever said all the food is made with the sauce. She did not offer a change, substitution or to remove the charge in the bill. Somewhat difficult to get our servers attention. She seemed to be working alone and the Friday evening became busier the longer we stayed. A disappointing meal. I would not return.
Melinda M — Google review
They scammed us. They told us they can make vegetables noodles so we ordered that but then gave us only vegetables and charged us full amount ($46.10 for two plates) Never recommended to anyone as cashier denied to give us noodles while she confirmed it before we place the order.
Shagan S — Google review
This was our first time eating here. We ordered dinner for 1 to share, with ginger beef, and rice. The meal had a great taste overall. the ginger beef was great tasting, till I got to the next couple of bites, and there were a few very tough to chew pieces that I had to place into a napkin. But the broccoli was cooked perfectly. Overall the restaurant had a clean feel, and great character layout to it. It was a little hard to get the server's attention, cause this person seemed busy. We will be trying this restaurant again, since we drive through Fort McLeod sometimes. I took a picture of my meal, I had already taken a couple of bites before the picture, it was presented better when they served it. 😉

Noodles were hard on the chow mein and mostly cabbage. Considering "mein" means noodles, there were like 6 hard noodles. Had the BLT that was on the menu and it was mostly LT. Poutine was fine though. Nice gravy.

Thank you, Lisa for assuring me that I could eat a gluten free meal safely. It was delicious. I am a celiac , we went when it wasn’t busy. I had a Hot Pot without the soya sauce. We will be back. : )

Fort Macleod Provincial Historic Area

Historical landmark
Nestled in the heart of Southern Alberta, Fort Macleod Provincial Historic Area is a captivating destination that pays homage to its rich heritage. This site, recognized as the first provincial historic area in Alberta, showcases an array of charming commercial buildings dating back to before 1914, predominantly featuring Edwardian Classical Revival architecture. Visitors can stroll along a scenic pedestrian walkway adorned with informative panels that delve into the area's history and restoration efforts.
Fort Macleod Provincial Historic Area is a must-visit, in my opinion. As a national historic site of Canada, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the early history of the North West area. For tourists eager to learn more about the significant role this place played, I highly recommend exploring this impressive historical site.
Celia T — Google review
You know it's unique when it's the first. Fort Macleod Provincial Historic Area is the first in Alberta (1 of only 2 in the whole province). It encompasses 3 blocks of mostly commercial buildings constructed before 1914, most in Edwardian Classical Revival style. It's adjacent to the first permanent North West Mounted Police post established in 1874. There's a pedestrian walkway with information panels about the area and its restoration. Take a stroll, enjoy the old west architecture, grab a coffee, see some antiques, and take in the The Fort Museum.

Chinese restaurant
Nestled in a charming small town, New Hong Kong Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience that combines authentic Asian flavors with warm hospitality. The restaurant is run by a lovely older couple who have been serving the community since 1990, ensuring every visit feels special. With an emphasis on safety and comfort, they limit sit-in dining and maintain proper spacing between customers. You can expect polite service as you order from the counter and pick up your meal when it's ready.
The atmosphere was quiet and very polite. The older couple running the restaurant is doing everything right. Limiting sit in dining, spacing out customers and eliminating unnecessary contact. They serve you very politely and accommodating from the counter and when your meal is ready you pick it up at the counter. If you need anything else you just need to go to the window and ask. I had a delicious and filling burger and my husband had the hamburger steak ( little did he know it would weigh 20oz 😳) delicious, and now I don’t have to feed him supper 😂

Have been here many times. My experience is always great. Very courteous service and clean. I've tried different menu items and some I like more than others but flavor is good as well as quantity. Not only Chinese food but western food as well. Great sizzling steaks and very good coffee and pies.

The food was not good, and the cook was extremely unprofessional. Aside from not getting food poisoning, this was the second worst dining experience in my life. Oddly enough the worst place I've ever eaten is on the same strech of HWY, a couple months prior. Maybe pack a lunch if you traveling on the Crowsnest.

Amazing Authentic Asian Food for a small town. Owners have been in business since 1990 so that's speaks for itself. Best dishes are: egg rolls, curry beef, lemon grass chicken, ginger beef and all their soups. The broth is handmade and leaves your body feeling well nourished after every bowl. Would highly recommend getting your next takeout meal from New Hong Kong Restaurant.

We absolutely loved this place. We ordered from the Vietnamese menu and were blown away by how yummy it was. Very generous servings. And the homemade mango ice cream was incredible. Very good prices, excellent and attentive service

Food had a overbearing smell of grease, tasted like deep fried foods were burnt or oil was old and overused. Staff was friendly, but our tummies didn't like the after effects of the food.

39 years (that's how long it's been there)we've been driving by this place and never stopped. Tonight that all changed. What delightful owners. So so friendly. The food was just as delightful. Best place to have a rest stop while charging your tesla. We had good experience, excellent quality food, amazing staff, and superb value for money! I really love and highly recommend the salmon burger!

First time here and we found it average. No seasoning on the meat. We ordered the Deluxe and Mozzarella burgers. The french fries no salt and onion rings were ok. Wouldn’t order these sides again but probably won’t be back.
Brian S — Google review
Food was good diner style food. Nothing fancy, nothing amazing but everything was good! Poutine is a mozzarella, not curds, gravy didn’t have a ton of flavour. To go container the poutine comes in is nice. The buffalo chicken strips were good. We didn’t try the milkshakes but will stop again on our way through with our kids to try them out. All in all, we would stop again when we want quick, good diner food.

Love this place is in Fort Macleod. Best snow cones I’ve ever seen, Jalapeño Poutine very nice, excellent price!! Crunchy fish and chips, amazing tartar sauce, great fries, crunchy cheese balls in poutine, amazing kids hot dog, clean and excellent service. Oh! And very unique ice cream flavours, including highly regarded Ube milkshake. Well done team! Oh! And next to the Tesla chargers too. Skip McDonalds and go here!!

I went to Igloo the other just because I'd never been. I'd been led to believe that it would be pretty standard small-town diner food, but I was very happily surprised! The food was delicious and freshly prepared, the prices were insanely reasonable (my party of two ate for $26), and the place was clean and charming! The service was excellent and I was just so pleased with my visit. If you've never been, or if you haven't been in a while, please stop by! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Delicious food for very reasonable prices, the staff is always friendly and helpful, the plants inside are absolutely beautiful and add a lush feel to the atmosphere. Great ice cream, handmade snocones. Top tier! Will certainly be back ☺️ the Montreal smoked meat sandwich is divine!
Brianna R — Google review
Appreciated that the fries and gravy from the poutine were good, and were also hot. It doesn't come with cheese curds, which was a bit of a let down, but tasted okay. The person was helpful and friendly. Decor is clean, albeit dated.

Quintessential small town burger joint. I had the Igloo Special Burger, which was outstanding with combination of the clearly made-in-house patty, sauteed mushrooms and onions, and their special sauce. Fries were pretty standard, and my chai milkshake was good. Service was friendly and the overall vibe was pretty cute. I went there on a cold rainy day but I suspect this would be quite the destination on a nice day.

China City, a small-town Chinese restaurant, offers an exceptional dining experience with their mouthwatering Lemon Chicken and house special fried rice. Despite the slightly higher prices, customers often find value in their orders as they can enjoy multiple meals from a single order. The food is consistently excellent, with a delectable taste that keeps patrons coming back for more. The service is prompt and efficient, ensuring a satisfying meal every time.
Sorry Elmer but our Lemon Chicken and house special fried rice was some of the best we have had. We often order the same over the past few years. Always good and really tasty. Oh by the way yes it’s pricey but we often get a few meals out of our order. Hence the 5 stars. Excellent food, lots and service always fast and good. Lucky to have a good Chinese restaurant in a small town. Clean and the owner often stops for some small talk.
Larry L — Google review
Won't be back Egg rolls were quite good and the server was super friendly and nice but the ginger beef was definitely not like anything I've had before and it had a really runny sauce on it. The almond chicken was basically battered chicken with what tasted like a package gravy and crushed up almonds. Chicken fried rice was probably the best part. We also had the deep fried shrimp and there was 3 times more batter than shrimp. Has a diner atmosphere and could definitely use new carpet to say the least.Save your money.
Shannon G — Google review
My boyfriend and I went here for dinner last night, the options for Gluten Free are limited, the price I found to be really expensive, just for the two of us, it cost us almost $115 for takeout. That was just for 5 dishes, and 2 of them were basically soupy and barely any meat. We were disappointed in it. When we ordered it the lady didn't give us a chance to see how much it was to see if we could actually afford it. She gave us a few minutes to look over the menu, then when we were trying to figure it out she was punching in the items.

If you haven’t been here on your way out to the Crows Nest Pass or Waterton, you need to. Going to a small town café is always a bit of a tossup when it comes to the quality of the coffee this place beyond delivered. We also had some of their homemade baking and soup. Specifically the sausage rolls, and today’s soup was the Italian meatball…so good. They did not skip out on the quality of the ingredients. Finish, we had a fresh cinnamon bun, and the crown jewel a local Haskap Berry Cream Pastry…Wow!!

Perfect stop before going to Waterton. Located on the beautiful Main St in Fort McLeod. They have very good french pastries and also very good bread. They also offer coffee so you can eat it on site. The prices are very reasonable. Too bad it's not open on Sundays, especially in the summer when you go on the mountain trip.

Had the Carrot Cake and Vanilla Strip. The Vanilla Strip - Was very well presented a very good photo worthy desert. Both the vanilla cream and jam that were in the sandwich were quite good and not overly sugary, just the right balance. Would approach it with a fork cause eating it by hand made quite the mess and squished the contents put the sides. The Careot Cake - Very goes cream cheese icing that carried the cake itself. The spiced cake portion was more subtle than I like, but that's personal preference. Staff was very nice and thoughtful, laying my cake paper toward the Strip so as not to have them come together and mix.

Blackwood Coffee Co. offers a cozy and inviting ambiance with plenty of seating, making it an ideal spot to start your day on a bright note. The Hot Chocolate is described as divine, striking the perfect balance of rich chocolatey goodness. The Baked Potato Soup stands out as incredibly hearty and delicious, with spot-on flavors that leave you wanting more. In addition to the delectable food and drinks, the excellent service sets this place apart.
First time here. Have 5 stars on everything. But service. We had to wait to order till waiter was finished with his email. ? When he got done he helped us with our choice of sandwich. I ordered the Turkey,Blt, croissant. Very good choice, with the food being made in am found the bottom a bit soggy. But loved all the ingredients. Also wanted to try the cheese burger soup. Small portion but with the croissant found myself a bit too full. The soup was thick and very tasty. Wife had the turkey cranberry, lettuce and mayo. She also wanted to try the soup. Same thing too full. Next time one or the other. She had the creamsicle Italian soda. Plenty of seats and tables and room outside. Place was very clean. Tables being cleaned and wiping things down. Checking on us and taking dirty dishes. Really nice addition on Main Street. We will be back! Great service and food was out fast.

Nice little coffee shop at the west end of main street in downtown Fort MacLeod. Atmosphere here is quite laid back and quiet. I didn't try any of the baked goods but I know that the food items for breakfast and lunch are really good. There is also a very nice herb & natural remedy shop in the back of the business that I have purchased products from as well. Will definitely continue to return to this establishment when I am passing through again...

Great, happy baristas serving amazing, NOT STALE coffee. They do an Americano-style coffee, which means they grind the beans for your cup of coffee and run it through their espresso machine, making YOUR cup custom and fresh, right on the spot. I loved their date bar and their bacon egg + gouda sandwich. I also tried a secret menu item - the Egyptian Fog (peppermint and caramel) and will have to come back for the Bombay Fog (Indian chia and vanilla). Super lovely stop and worth the detour into town for a happy cup of joe!

There are plenty of seats, making it a perfect spot to enjoy your food and coffee while starting your day on a bright note. The ambiance is cozy and inviting. The Hot Chocolate I ordered was simply divine. It had the perfect balance of rich chocolatey goodness. But the real star was the Baked Potato Soup. It was incredibly hearty and delicious. Stopped in for a coffee. First time there ( first time in Fort Macleod ) the service was great, the atmosphere was cozy and my coffee was spot on. I didn't have any food or treats but they definitely looked delicious. Totally worth checking out if you're in the area.

Every time I pass by Johnny's Restaurant, I can't help but be drawn in by the allure of its authentic Chinese cuisine. Nestled in southern Alberta, on Blackfoot territory, this gem has become a must-visit for anyone craving delicious and genuine flavors. The charm of Johnny's keeps me returning for more delightful dishes that truly capture the essence of traditional Chinese cooking!
We keep coming back every time we drive by because this Chinese food is very nice and authentic!

Still the best fried rice and ginger chicken I have found anywhere. If I could overnight ship it to Ontario, I would at least once a month. Glad I was able to make it back to SW Alberta again to stop in.

Brewery
Located on Main Street, Stronghold Brewing Co. is a local craft brewery with a taproom that offers a cozy atmosphere and a range of in-house brewed drinks. The historic building features ornate wood elements and a period piece bar, adding to its charm. Visitors can enjoy traditional, deep, malty, and earthy flavors in their beers while also having the option to try local nonalcoholic sodas.
What a great spot in Fort Macleod! Gorgeous old building. I was lucky enough to add this place to my tour and played a really fun show there August 8th 2024! Will definitely go back. - Maddisun Music ✨🌞

Definitely stop by if you have the chance. The beer is great. The Brewery itself has some cool features, like massive horse doors imported. Has 2 levels and a patio. Im definitely not doing the place justice on its warm vibe.

Fantastic beers served a beautiful old building with lovely woodwork. The staff were very prompt, cheerful and seemed very happy to be there. Would recommend stopping here for a some great beer!
Jennifer F — Google review
Stopped in to check out the place on my way through town. Exceptionally good beer!! And the owners were lovely. Makes me think of a classy old western saloon. 100% recommend visiting for a pint. Or several.
Paul — Google review
Made a pitstop during a road trip to check out Stronghold. Walking in to the historic building, I was thrilled to see the elements of historical design. Ornate wood features, and a period piece bar perfectly matched the building exterior. I picked up some flights to check out their range. Overall, I'd say their beer is good. Not the best beer I've ever had, and the flavours are more traditional (deep, malty, earthy) instead of the newer trend of breweries leaning towards ultra fruity/tropical etc. The best part of the visit was the extremely large and cute outdoor patio. It was a great place to gather for a few beverages. I would definitely frequent this place if it were in my back yard.
Breanna J — Google review
The Stronghold is a fantastic little family run bar, with a fantastic range of in house brewed drinks, that will have your taste buds wanting more. And the prices can't be betten. Not just that, if you and your friends and family fancy a bite to eat, you can order from your favorite pizza store. The atmosphere is a carm, relaxed and friendly atmosphere and if it becomes your local, then everyone will know your name and say hi with a smile.
Tony W — Google review
Stronghold is an excellent microbrewery with a good-size seating area. They have live music from time to time as well.

Hamburger restaurant
A&W Canada is a fast-food outlet known for its root beer, burgers, chicken, and fries. It's conveniently located near other popular food chains like Dairy Queen and Tim Hortons. The restaurant offers hormone-free beef at a slightly higher price but with top-notch quality. Customers appreciate the clean facilities, friendly staff, and spacious parking area suitable for RVs.
Stopped here with my family on the way to Waterton. The staff greeted us with smiles and gave us great energy for an early morning. The food came promptly and was presented beautifully We wish we remembered their names but they were working at 6am on Saturday, July 13. Thanks to those kind ladies for their kindness!

I like the burgers and the staff is friendly this location is clean and has a nice eating area outside. I am, however, frustrated at the corporation for trying to tell me how to change my eating. My wife wanted a strawberry milk shake, but they only have sweet cream shakes. I got one for my wife, and she did not like it. I wanted a large diet coke but was given a cup that used to be a medium. It is not as if we eat this way every day or even multiple times a week it is not the suppliers job to control what I eat. Keep limiting my selections, and I will need to forgo my love of the teen burger and find somewhere that will serve me what I want.

Just got served the driest, crustiest, most burnt tasting uncle burger ever. Probably sitting under the warmer for maybe 2, 3 weeks? Like the previous reviews, stale hard bun too. Will never stop at this location again. Do better. Management should be ashamed.
Lana K — Google review
It would be nice if they got my order correct. It never amazes when you order a cheese burger than ask if you would like cheese on it. If there's no cheese on it than it's just a burger.
Martin G — Google review
You know there used to be a time when I always go to a&w but now it's just got to the point where they don't have deals. Good deals anymore and everything you buy. You have to buy separately and the burgers aren't like they used to be. They're not as good. Would I go back again? No cuz there's cheaper places to eat and better atmospheres than a&w

Traveling through, stopped here for a quick bite. We got 2 chicken sandwiches, fries and an apple turnover. Just what we needed, nice crispy chicken and perfectly cooked fries. The staff were very friendly, especially Yarah and Shaira!

I’ve been to a lot of A&W places from different cities but this store was special. We came in around 4-ish pm. The girls in the counter was very polite, they greeted me and my boyfriend with a big smile right away when we came in. The rest of our experience here was fantastic! from the food, the atmosphere, and most especially the service. They went about and beyond. I asked for their names, I might’ve spelled it wrong but I think it was shyra and yara.

Public golf course
Located in the vibrant community of Fort Macleod, Alberta, the Fort Macleod Golf Course offers a relaxed rural lifestyle with proximity to the Canadian Rockies. Established in the late 1800s as a North West Mounted Police post, this small town boasts rich history and cultural heritage. The golf course itself is well-maintained and challenging, featuring long and short holes with trees that provide an additional level of difficulty.
Course is in great shape this 2024 season. They have done an excellent job keeping the course in as good of shape as it is. Greens and tee boxes all in great shape. The few elevated tee boxes adds an extra challenge. For the price of a round you cannot beat this majestic 9 hole course. Definitely be back a few more times this season!

Dell Hildebrandt, shame on you. Our family came from out of town to golf Fort Macleod on a beautiful day, yet you see us walk in with 2 kids who haven’t said a word or done anything and you instantly start attacking my 3 and 5 year old boys, assuming they will be a disruption to your course. We have golfed 60-65 different courses since they have been born, members at multiple courses, and have never ever had anyone have an issue with our kids coming golfing with us. We will NEVER be back. Way to promote youth golf in your town.
Madison B — Google review
A beautiful course layout and always in great condition. A combination of challenging holes, and some open fairways makes this place ideal for players of all skill level. A big shout out to clubhouse staff, who make the golf experience even better here.
Kevin M — Google review
Great course in small town Alberta. Well kept and fun to play. Forgiving enough for beginners and challenging enough for seasoned players. Very accommodating. Love it and recommend!
Butch F — Google review
They strive so hard to make this ancient golf course a thing of beauty, the crew are super friendly and the prices are ultra affordable. We stay locally once a year for a week just to play here. Totally worth the stop!
Mathew — Google review
I have always found this little course to be a challenge largely due to the many hundreds of old cottonwood and poplar trees that essentially line every fairway. This course definitely puts a premium on finding the fairway off the tee. Played it again this past week and found the course to be in great shape for mid September and loved playing it even though I never seem to score well here and the latest rounds were no different. My only complaint about the course is on the day we played it a few of the pin placements were ridiculously placed on the most sloped area of the green. Particularly No. 9 which was absurd. Almost impossible to stop a ball anywhere close. I don’t mind a challenging pin placement but these went beyond that. Otherwise I enjoy playing this course and will continue to play it in the future.
Bruce B — Google review
Really clean, lovely course. With nice long holes and short ones. I recommend you stop in for an afternoon round and check this lovely hidden golf course. The trees can be difficult to pass. And the sand traps and water traps are an amazing addition to this course. You can rent carts and they were very hospitabile to us coming even know we were behind for our tee time. Check this course out for a bit of a challenge. But also a fun time with friends

Just disappointed since I had a build your own footlong get one free for 15.99, worked on all sandwiches a different occasion but apparently that's changed, they failed to mention that build your own is no longer build your own and is limited to a few menu items, so then they charged me full price on the one sandwich and still charged me for the other, 30 for two sandwiches. Why not charge me for the higher priced sub with upgrades and honour the coupon? Poor people skills
Benjamin W — Google review
Basic Subway experience...clean, bright seating area, quick service...not the best listening skills...had to repeat myself too many times...but would visit again
Duncan L — Google review
Messed up our orders both times we've went here and don't do much to fix it when we ask. They never toast our subs when we order on the app or at drive thru. They put no sauce or hardly any to taste. Our last order had a pizza sub which had no marinara at all so we had to drive back to get some. She looked very confused and just handed over a tiny amount in a container cold. We even had to ask for more and had to go home to heat it up ourselves. Not good customer service at all. We won't be going back to this location.

Subway is my go-to place for a quick and fresh meal. I love the variety of breads, toppings, and sauces-it's easy to customize exactly how I like it. The staff is usually friendly, and the food is always made right in front of you. Great for a healthy lunch or a filling snack anytime!
