Chamarel Seven Colored Earth Geopark is a unique park featuring sand dunes with seven different colors, created by centuries of lava, decay, and weathering. Visitors can explore the otherworldly landscape and capture stunning photos for their social media feeds. The park also offers the opportunity to visit Chamarel Falls for a view of the powerful spray of water or try abseiling down the cliffs.
Visited Chamarel Seven Colored Earth and it was a truly unique and fascinating sight. The natural sand dunes with seven distinct shades — from red and brown to purple and blue — are a rare geological wonder you won’t see anywhere else. The colors are even more striking under sunlight, and it’s amazing to learn that they remain unmixed despite rain or wind. The surrounding area is peaceful and scenic, with well-maintained pathways and viewing decks. You can also spot giant tortoises nearby, which adds to the experience. The drive to Chamarel is beautiful, with lush greenery and mountain views along the way. A definite must-visit in Mauritius for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone curious about natural wonders.

The Seven Colored Earths of Mauritius is a wonderful attraction. I really enjoyed it because you can see the different colors of the earth, which is truly stunning. I loved it! It's a large area with many other views to enjoy, so it's not just about the colored earths. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes, like sports clothes, so you can walk around easily. I highly recommend visiting this place.

Unique experience with Waterfall, 7 coloured earth & Turtles. Be prepare to spend MUR650 per person as an entry fees due to private site. Cafe, Souvenir Store is plenty to offer local Rum & other food items as well as crafted artworks by local artists. Definitely worth the visit

The Chamarel Seven Colored Earth Geopark is truly a picturesque and unique natural wonder. The striking layers of vibrant colors are unlike anything I’ve seen before — a perfect spot for photos and to simply take in the beauty of nature. While there isn’t a lot to do beyond enjoying the view and a short walk around the area, it’s absolutely worth visiting for the stunning scenery. A peaceful and memorable stop during our trip to Mauritius!

A must-see natural wonder! The Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth is, without a doubt, one of Mauritius's most recognizable and stunning natural attractions. As such, be prepared for a good number of fellow tourists! While there is parking space, it can fill up quickly, so I recommend arriving early if possible. The view of the swirling, multi-hued sands is truly unique. For the best possible photograph to capture the vibrant colours, here's a quick tip: the sit-out restaurant inside the park offers the best vantage point! It's worth stopping there for the view alone, even if you don't dine. You can easily explore the geopark by walking along a well-maintained walkway that provides several different viewpoints of the sands. Beyond the main attraction, the park also has several other points of interest, including a small enclosure with turtles, an area to explore the Ebony Forest, and several souvenir shops. Toilets are also available for visitors. Overall, this is an essential stop on any Mauritius itinerary. Highly recommended!
Awhan M — Google review
This is really a sight to see but don't be shocked if the colour's arnt as apparent as the online pictures(its natural after all!) You get to see Giant Tortoises which it quite fun especially for children and there is a small 'cafe' that does coffees, juices,ice-cream and traditional sugar cane juice! You can do hikes around the park but give yourself atleast the whole day to do that as there are multiple hiking routes.
Gerhard N — Google review
We were there as part of a self-booked "taxi tour." You also have to pay an entrance fee for the national park. We paid 1,300 rupees for two people. The taxi driver was free. NOTE: The "receipt" with the QR code is also the entrance ticket at the turnstile at the 7 Earths spot. There's also a parking lot there that's generally "permanently full." Our driver dropped us off at the entrance. The area is basically a large pile of sand. Unless you're a geologist, it's not really that exciting. On the same grounds, there's also a fenced-off area where giant tortoises are "kept." In my opinion, it's "just" a place you go to say you've been there...

Ebony Forest Reserve Chamarel is a remarkable conservation initiative in Mauritius, aiming to recreate the island's indigenous native forest that existed 250 years ago. Covering 45 hectares, this reserve offers 7km of hiking trails, raised walkways into the mid-canopy, and safari jeep tours. The estate has planted 110,000 indigenous trees and is home to nine endemic bird species including the pink pigeon and echo parakeet.
This place is quiet, peaceful, and well-maintained. Everything is natural and preserved beautifully. The environment is fresh and calming — a perfect escape into nature. The tourist guides were very friendly and knowledgeable, explaining everything with passion. I really enjoyed the walk through the forest and spotting some rare and uncommon birds. The 3D show was a highlight — it gave a fascinating insight into Mauritian culture, nature, and history. The viewpoints also offer stunning views of the island. Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone looking to experience the real beauty of Mauritius.

Booked a Birdwatching walk. 3 to 4 hours actually did 4 3/4 hour hike Ans saw 5 of the 7 rare birds. Guide Damian was excellent knowledgeable and friendly. Superb views from the viewpoints. You do need a reasonable level of fitness for the walk but there is a jeep ride alternative

🌿 5/5 – Amazing Experience! Had a wonderful time on the self-guided hike at Ebony Forest in Chamarel. The trails are well-marked, peaceful, and surrounded by beautiful native trees and birds. The views from the top are breathtaking — especially over Le Morne and the coast. Staff were friendly and informative, and it’s great to see the effort put into forest restoration. Perfect spot for nature lovers and anyone who enjoys a calm, scenic walk in Mauritius. Highly recommended!

Took the guided safari jeep tour. Booked online in advance. Very knowledgeable guide who made the visit very enjoyable. The views from Sublime Point are amazing. This is a good option if you are in any doubt about your ability to do the hikes.

The Ebony Forest Reserve was a great experience during our stay on Mauritius. You get to hike on your own in beautiful forest and get a guide that walks you through a section of the track and explains the efforts to restore both endemic and native species. We also saw free ranging tortoises and quite a few birds. It also has a small museum that explains the history of Mauritius and that of birds like the Dodo and the namesake ebony trees. Well worth a visit (we stayed for over 3 hours)!

I had the chance to visit the Ebony Forest in Chamarel, Mauritius, and it was a wonderful experience. The reserve is beautifully maintained, offering a mix of scenic walking trails, viewpoints, and a chance to learn about the island’s unique biodiversity. The highlight for me was the walk through the restored native forest, where you can see giant tortoises and rare bird species. The viewpoints overlooking Le Morne and the coastline are breathtaking, and the skywalk gives a unique perspective of the forest canopy. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, always ready to share interesting facts about conservation and local history. It’s not a very long visit, but it’s definitely worth it if you enjoy nature, quiet surroundings, and eco-friendly activities. Overall, a satisfying experience that combines relaxation, education, and beautiful views. 🌿🐢🌍✨ #EbonyForest #MauritiusTravel #Chamarel #NatureLovers #EcoTourism #MauritiusNature #TravelMauritius #Conservation #HiddenGem #IslandParadise

Ebony Forest Reserve in Chamarel is a beautiful conservation area with well-maintained trails, stunning views, and rich biodiversity. The guided tours are informative, and you can learn a lot about Mauritius’ native flora and fauna. A great place for hiking, birdwatching, and connecting with nature.

Did the Love Tree Tour and it was Fantastic! Jean was a great guide, was really knowledgeable and friendly. We saw Geckos, birds and Tortoises up close! So a tour so animals can be pointed out for you. Highly recommend to experience the forest without a strenuous hike, easy for kids and older people. The open jeep up the mountain was really comfy and fun, and the views at sublime point were amazing! Facilities were new with nice clean toilets, gift shop for souvenirs and snacks, not a place for lunch so go to Chamarel Cafe for that. Great to support the conservation effort for Mauritius

Chamarel Mountain Chalets

Bed & breakfast
Chamarel Mountain Chalets offers a serene and peaceful retreat in the heart of the jungle. The chalets are spacious, well-equipped, and boast comfortable beds for a restful sleep. The staff is known for their exceptional hospitality, going above and beyond to accommodate guests' needs, including preparing early breakfasts for those with early tours. The lush garden surrounding the chalets creates a tropical paradise atmosphere.
A magical retreat! A stunning, peaceful place off the beaten path. Words can't describe how beautiful it is. The chalets are hidden in lush greenery, offering privacy (with some exceptions—more on that later). The staff was incredibly kind—we felt like royalty and got all the help we needed. We stayed in a spacious, beautifully designed two-story chalet near the pool and dining terrace. It had air conditioning, a fully equipped kitchen, a large fridge, and a TV with Netflix and other streaming services. Really good breakfasts too. A few minor downsides: no nearby shops (though restaurants are within walking distance), and our chalet opened directly onto the terrace where people often dined. However, the pool was just steps away, so it had its perks! The last few hundred meters of the road can be tricky—even our taxi struggled on the uneven path. But despite that, this was probably the most beautiful place we’ve ever stayed. Highly recommended!
Krzysztof P — Google review
If you’re craving peace, fresh mountain air, and cozy luxury, this mountain chalet getaway delivers in every way. Nestled high in the hills, the chalet offers stunning panoramic views! The chalet was beautifully designed with rustic wood interiors and a nice fireplace. Everything felt authentic yet modern and had a well-equipped kitchen. The bed was awesome and incredibly comfortable and everything was spotless. It’s clear the owners care about the details! Remote enough to feel like a true escape and this was one of the most relaxing and memorable trips we've taken. Perfect for couples, families, or solo travelers looking to unplug and unwind in nature!

Absolute gem in Chamarel location. Everything was perfect. Staff is super nice and helpful, rooms are absolutely beautiful and pool is amazing. Location os great for those who likes to hike, but Le Morne beach is not far away. I can only recommend this chalets to stay 2-3 days for sure.

We stayed 4 nights and had a wonderful time. The garden and location are amazing, especially when you love nature. Friendly staff and a very good breakfast. And, the cocktails from Didier,, the best in Mauritius! So we had a very nice time.. Thanks!

Unfortunately, we had the worst experience ever and highly recommend avoiding this place by any means. We were not able to sleep due to the frog noise from 10pm to 5am every night. Sadly, the owner was incredibly unfriendly and even became personally insulting when confronted with the situation. Despite having paid for six nights, we left after two. There are many other beautiful places in the area, if you're looking for an accommodation, just go somewhere else ;-).

I visited Chamarel Mountain Chalet and had a wonderful time at their coffee shop. The crêpe with chocolate was very tasty, and the vanilla tea was delicious. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

The place is beautiful, but you have to walk a lot around the whole area, the guides have little knowledge about this place, but there are many descriptive tables. The animals are not in the best condition, for example the turtles are in bad condition, there was little food for the animals, I recommend setting up a store with food for animals, people will gladly buy them food, it is an experience to feed the animals.

I had long looked forward to dining at this stunning restaurant—and it truly delivered. Not only was the food delicious, but the picturesque 180° view elevated the entire experience. The staff were very kind and attentive, adding to the warm and pleasant atmosphere. A perfect blend of flavor, service, and scenery. Absolutely worth the wait. Highly recommended.

If you're dining at this restaurant, remember to make a reservation online! It's incredibly popular! 👍 You don't want to drive an hour and not have food to eat; that's a shame! I made a reservation a week before my trip to Mauritius, and the restaurant manager even sent me an email to confirm my reservation. If you go to see the Seven-Colored Earth, please keep your ticket stub and you will get a 10% discount. There are not many parking spaces, please arrive early to find a parking space during meal time😘

Incredible views from this restaurant. Well worth visiting especially if you are visiting the local sites around here. I would recommend booking a table as it can get quite busy. The tables directly overlooking the view are first come first served, but there is a little viewing platform that everyone can go to for photos which is nice. The food was really good. I really enjoyed the palm heart salad and the grilled prawns. You could easily sit here for a few hours enjoying the views, unfortunately we couldn’t stay very long!

A beautiful restaurant to appreciate Le Morne’s view. In my opinion, the menu is limited and the service was not the best. We arrived early which gave us the opportunity to admire all the details within the restaurant. Nevertheless, I will certainly come back as it is located in a wonderful location with a magnificent view.
503 T — Google review
We ate here during our anniversary trip to Mauritius. It's a bit of a trek from the northern end of the island, but worth the drive. I spent the morning golfing at Heritage and we were definitely hungry for some food. We arrived quite a bit earlier than our reservation and had no problems getting seated. The restaurant definitely filled up closer to our actual reservation time. We were seated at a table along the glass. It was one of the best seats available, we could easily see Le Morne and the sights below and all those getting in their photos weren't able to stand in front of us during our meal. We tried the gadjacks and I ordered the butcher's cut and my wife the chicken and prawn curry. Both dishes were cooked well, seasoned, and fresh. Definitely one of the better meals we had in Mauritius. I had a mojito made with local rum and it definitely had some kick. I'm not a big rum drinker, and the local rum has a bit different taste to it versus those I've had in the Caribbean. The views were awesome and the food was worth the cost. We paid $60(USD) for the whole meal minus drinks. If you're traveling to Mauritius don't pass this stop up

Happy they could accommodate us ... but reservation is a prerequisite... The service was good... The toilets were clean and immaculate... They are used to serving foreigners so... the waiter was not understanding my creole... but nevertheless he recommended some venison rack which was delicious.. The Gajak Mauritian is convenient for two . The fresh palm salade with srimps was the show stopper.. both appealing and delectable. The chamrel Sling was fresh and refreshing.. its a very nice place with amazing views of the south... its a must visit restaurant.

The waitstaff are dedicated to providing excellent service and are very friendly. The ambiance of the place is fantastic, creating a pleasant atmosphere for diners. However, the highlight of Chez Pierre Paul is its exquisite cuisine. Despite not being widely recognized yet, the food offered at this restaurant is exceptional and deserving of popularity.

Went there for lunch with a group of 35 people. From the reservation to the bill, the woman in charge was incredibly helpful and kind. We had grilled calamari, chicken mauritian curry and grilled lamb — the food was excellent, just like the service. I definitely recommend this place and will come again!

Tried Chez Pierre Paul in Chamarel, but the experience was disappointing. The Creole Sausage in Provençale Sauce had a delicious sauce, but the sausages were undercooked. The Fish in Vindaye Sauce was nicely cooked, but there was barely any sauce, which took away from the flavor. The highlights were the Crab Gratin and the cocktail, both of which were tasty. The Caramelized Banana was decent. Overall, some dishes were good, but the food was not consistent, which made the experience disappointing.

The food is great. A bit pricy but very comfortable lunch we had here. Staffs are friendly. It is a good restaurant for tourists. Neat and tidy. We went there at around 12:30 but it is already fulled house at 1:00pm. We had salad, sweet and sour fish comes with rice and grilled fish comes with fries.

Tasty, nice service, prices a bit high. It's nice to sit outside.

The place is too good. Service is amazing. People are humble and kind. Also chef is great. Whatever you request it is fulfilled. And the foood is delicious
Vanshika A — Google review
We had the most lovely food at this restaurant. We arrived a little later than expected however both Jeniffer & her husband were so kind and accommodating. We sat outside and it was just unique and beautiful, my son really enjoyed the vibe there. I loved how we overlooked water and beautiful greenery. The food was delicious and came out very promptly. The portions were bigger than expected and both the prawns and chicken were perfectly cooked succulent. The prices were very reasonable and they had a very good menu selection. We would love to return when we go back to Mauritius one day.

La Citronelle is a great spot for lunch, offering delicious grilled "catch of the day" that's well-prepared and flavorful. However, some find the pricing to be on the higher side compared to local salaries. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and friendly staff, making it a pleasant place to enjoy a meal. It's open even in the late afternoon, providing flexibility for visitors looking for a satisfying dining experience.
Had a delicious meal here. The best crab I have ever tested. We found this place just by chance and we were very happy with the food and service!
Solveig C — Google review
On atmosphere it was outside seating which was hot. Very poor service. But food was excellent. They must keep waiters who can communicate. We tried non veg thali lamb which was good. I tried grilled kapstan fish and it was awesome.
Anindyaa N — Google review
Rip off price for a simple beer. Got charged 600 for 2 small beers. Didn't eat but seeing other reviews the food is also over priced. Luckily we're staying in a 5 star place just a walk away where the prices are much more reasonable.

Food was delicious. Ordered octopus curry and fish, both were delicious. Octopus was tender! The curry was flavourful thanks to the different spices used. Service was very good.
Lynn — Google review
Avoid this restaurant, its a tourist trap! We were on a full day island trip and we stopped there to eat something. Unfortunately, very disappointing. We asked for grilled prawns and they were actually fried, we asked for baked potatos - they brought french fries. Maybe the language was an issue... but when confronted, they said that they cook like this and it is grill. We ate in many places on the island grilled meat, fish and seafood and there were not fried.
Alexandru M — Google review
I’d give this place a miss. Spicy crab.. really? A cloying sauce that had no spice. And about a tablespoon of crab 🦀 once shelled. Server was ok.. beer was under the plim line. We had two pepper shakers ( no salt) on our table.. and after we’d asked for an actual salt shaker ( for the bland food) he walked by several times without bringing one. Definitely could have used finger bowls with this mess of a meal. One dirty hand towel in each bathroom. Gross. Hand dryer was unplugged. Tables nicely set with ? Mexican music in background but the whole place was a rip.
Sarika F — Google review
We ordered salads and soft drinks for lunch. The portion served was tiny compared to its price.

I totally agree to the previous comment. Our taxi driver dropped us here. Only tourists in this place. Prices are way too high for Mauritius. You better go to a more local restaurant and eat better food for less cash. Also meals are very small. Good were free wifi, service and taste of the food.

Rhumerie de Chamarel Restaurant & Rum Distillery is a must-visit in the south-west corner of the island. The distillery offers an immersive experience, guiding visitors through the rum-making process and offering tastings of its exquisite rums. Designed by Mauritian architect Maurice Giraud, the distillery seamlessly blends into its tropical surroundings with wood, natural stone, and water elements.
We arrived just after 4 p.m. and were lucky to catch the very last tour before closing time at 4:30. The visit was quite fast-paced — maybe because it was the final group — but still interesting. We got to see the equipment used in rum production, learned about the process and how it’s stored. Then came the tasting, which was super generous: around a dozen varieties, from clear and aged rums to versions flavored with vanilla, coffee, and more. It was a lot of rum in a short time, but fun and well done. The place itself is beautiful, and the staff was really friendly. Everything is close by — the colorful Seven Coloured Earth and the waterfall are just around the corner — so you can easily combine it all into one perfect little day trip. There’s also a highly rated restaurant on-site, though we didn’t try it ourselves.
Melanie K — Google review
Interesting tour with degustation of rhums. But we were a little bit disappointed because we didn’t see sugar cane processing. 6 months is maintenance. Production is from July to December. We saw it just on TV. We stayed for lunch and food was so delicious. Ambience very pleasant and staff friendly. Recommend if you are on Mauritius.
Radka N — Google review
Great tour about the process of making rum from sugar cane - the eleven shots of different rums at the end certainly add to the experience. Disappointed with the duck main.
B P — Google review
Only 4 stars as the groups are way too big to hear what the guide is talking. Additionally so many different groups that tasting was a bit a mess with other people of an other group still being there. I was there late afternoon during the week. Also machines were not working anymore. Tasting of 11 different types was good.
Sabrina N — Google review
A mix of a nice place to visit and a tourist trap, and somewhat overpriced. The grounds are beautiful and well looked after. But the tour is a bit fast, and the experience of enjoying 11 small shots of rum sounds better than it is. There's not even an adult price entry without the run tasting, which is a bit disrespectful for drivers or non-drinkers.
AlexesKraft — Google review
The guided tour includes rum tasting of at least 10 types, but overall I think it’s a bit rushed. It would help if they had at least some basic information about the process written around so you can read on your own.
Maria B — Google review
The tour is fantastic and tasting great fun. The restaurant is well worth a stop in afterwards too!
Alister L — Google review
We visited the rhumerie and did the tour. Entrance is not expensive and the tour takes about 30 minutes. The property is nice and you Can freely walkaround. I did not like the rum, not the regular stuff nor the fancy ones. It was still a nice excursion. Thanks Phil

Catholic church
Nestled in the charming village of Chamarel, Église Sainte-Anne du Chamarel is a delightful little church that embodies simplicity and tranquility. While it may not be the grandest structure, its quaintness adds to its charm, making it a lovely spot for reflection and prayer. After exploring the church, take a stroll along the newly constructed pathway that leads you to a serene grotto dedicated to Virgin Mary.
Very nice place, pleasant atmosphere.
Woo D — Google review
After visiting the church, please visit the grotto dedicated to our Virgin Mary. Thanks for the newly built pathway beside the church and it brings to this wonderful and amazing grotto. It seems that this man-made grotto has been recently made by removing earth from the natural landscape. Virgin Mary please bless all visitors.

Restaurant
Palais de Barbizon is a charming family-run table d'hôte located in Chamarel, offering authentic Chamarelloise cuisine. The restaurant provides a simple and welcoming atmosphere with orange splatter paint walls and photographs of famous visitors. Rico Intelligent, the village mayor, and his wife warmly welcome guests to savor old family recipes such as rice, five types of curry, fish, and chicken. The staff is friendly and accommodating, providing a local experience with delicious food at reasonable prices.
Wow what a lunch! We found this little gem by pure luck and it was a pleasant surprise. The owner is so friendly and welcoming, and the food is just incredible. It’s super authentic and really well priced. There’s no menu, you just pick the type of meat you want and they bring you a selection of dishes. We had chicken and fish - both were great. This was definitely one of the best meals we had on the island. Highly recommend for lunch!
Nergis Y — Google review
The food was good and we did enjoy it, but the price and service? Unbelievable. We were charged 700 per person for a pre-prepared meal made up of small dishes — completely outrageous. The place was quite dirty, and the service left a lot to be desired. Staff rushed us through the meal, repeatedly asking if we were done (even while I was still chewing), all because they wanted to close — without ever informing us of their closing time. I don’t mind paying a bit more as a tourist, but this felt like a total rip-off. It may look like a charming, family-run spot, but it’s just another tourist trap. Skip it.

We passed this lovely place on our way to Chamarel and I told my husband that this is where we will be eating later after one glance. It reminded me so much of Kentucky, and low and behold it really was. Mama serving reminded me of my aunts and grand mother and the Mister who courted us in was like every uncle, charming and full of humor. He described the menu and we were served the best soul food on Mauritius. Absolutely delicious. Chicken, fish, wild boar and different sides. This was truly the best eating experience on the island. Merci Barbizon. Worth every rupi. I laugh at the complainers. 🙏🏽❤️

Great place to experience Mauritian food we had the vegetarian dishes with Rice, Chicken and fish amazing 3 of us ordered Tamarin Juice which was nice and sweet it was our first time drinking the juice. With our drink we paid 2100 Rupees which is not bad for such a meal it can easily feed 4 people.

Tourist trap, way overpriced. Food hardly edible. For the same price you could be at le chamarel restaurant overlooking the ocean and beaches with much better food. Best to avoid. Almost $100 for lunch for 4. Better food and prices elsewhere.

Local restaurant with Homey food that is worth trying . The menu comprises chicken leg and thigh curry, fried fish or marinated fried wild boar (sanglier). 1 menu costs 600-700 rupees and is enough for 2 people to share, it is served with rice and small cups of different vegetables and lentils ,

Chez Ruben Restaurant is a popular spot known for its seafood and fish dishes. The service, while not the quickest, is polite and the staff are described as lovely and helpful. The restaurant offers a blend of local flavors in their signature cocktail, which combines rum and pineapple juice. Despite being a bit of a tourist spot with a large parking area, the quality of food and excellent service make it worth the visit.
Amazing place with great seafood and local cuisine! The place is beautifully decorated and everything looked pristine and clean. Super friendly owner and staff with great service! Super high maintenance and standard. The seafood platter was so tasty and we are very full!! The bathrooms are so clean and big as well!! Nicely decorated. We will definitely come back again 👍👍👍 and highly recommended for anyone coming this way to pay a visit for this beautiful restaurant 👌🏻👌🏻❤️

My family and I had an absolutely amazing dining experience at Chez Ruben Restaurant! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed. The hospitality was exceptional, and the service was top-notch. Every single dish was simply divine! From the flavorful starters to the perfectly cooked main courses and the delightful desserts, everything was beyond delicious. The attention to detail in both presentation and taste was truly impressive. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment and would highly recommend Chez Ruben Restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable culinary experience. We can’t wait to come back! From Jayane and Family

Chez Ruben offered us an amazing experience with a top-notch seafood menu and delicious vegetarian options as well — something for everyone. The ambience was charming, calm, and perfect for a relaxed lunch after exploring the nearby attractions. The staff were courteous and welcoming, making us feel right at home. Also, the ample parking space was a big plus. Every dish we tried was full of flavor — fresh, authentic, and beautifully presented. A must-visit spot if you’re in the area and looking for yummy food in a peaceful setting.. An absolute Gem😍♥️

We stopped at this restaurant whilst visiting the 7 colours geopark upon recommendation of someone else. We won’t be coming again. It is extremely overpriced for what is offered. The food is ok. Although we had to wait for more than 1 hour for a vegetarian thali (rice, Roti and lentil soup were all cold) and a plate of braised fish (which was fine), but this meal cost more than half of hiring a Private driver for the day to take us around the island. Absolutely not worth it in my opinion. Staff were friendly but didn’t seem to know what was going on half of the time. We also had someone else’s Drink given to us as well. Also if you don’t eat meat, fish or seafood very limited options for you.
Louise P — Google review
Food and atmosphere are good. However, the service is really slow. Took a lot of time to provide the food and one dish was missing as well. Had to ask for chilli and garlic sauce 3 times before we got it.

We are on our way to 7 colored earth and spotted the restaurant at the corner of my eye because the place look crowded, the car park and the place looks big and nice and we decided to visit the place on the way back. At about 3:30 pm we arrived at the restaurant and the boss said that they close at 4pm and was a little reluctant to take us in. However, we manage to place our order smoothly at about 4:38 pm.The menu has indian and local food with lots of alcohol like cocktails. We choose to seat outside at the most cosy corner but the noise near the road was unpleasent enough for us to change. By then, the place was relatively empty but they still get the delivery of food wrong and was late. The boss say they have only 1 staff (as excuse?). Sensing the wrong delivery, we did not touch the food and the food was return. By that time, we were hungry and unhappy. Nevertheless, the seafood soup, butter chicken masala, fish egplant curry, prawn labab dar and the rice jeera was flavorful and tasty. The boss sensing we are not happy given that they are very late and weong, give us complementary additional jeera and prata. Overall we enjoy our food although the portion was small and the price was international and therefore the value could be better and not enough for us to return.

La Marmite De Chamarel is a charming roadside restaurant known for its delicious food and slightly higher prices. The menu offers a great variety of options, and the friendly service adds to the overall experience. One highly recommended dish is the vegetable curry, which is definitely worth a try.

!!! TOURIST TRAP, DON'T EAT HERE !!! Be careful of this place as it's easily tourist trap. During our one day taxi trip around the island we've asked our taxi driver where we could eat some great local Mauritius food. He recommended this place. Once we came in, we were little bit stunned as the place seemed really cheap and dirty. We've hoped this wouldn't be a problem as some other restaurants looks exactly the same and are "hidden gems". This wasn't the case. Prices for what you'll get here are incredibly high. We've had 1 bland salad and 2 godawful curry. We weren't even able to eat lamb one as meat was incredibly fat. For this we were suppose to pay almost 50€! (around 2300 MUR) Not to mention these prices are even without VAT so they don't give you any receipt!!! This is clearly scam and it wouldn't surprise me if they have some sort of deal with taxi companies to split the revenue as other guests here were only passengers who came with their taxi drivers. The place is also incredibly dirty and hygiene is a foreign word here. !!! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS !!!

We were taken here by our taxi driver as part of our tour of the South. Our driver said it was very good food. We are not food connoisseurs but we were disappointed by our meal. We had had lovely curries during our stay but this was nowhere up to the standard we have had. It was also expensive for what we had. Very disappointing. No idea how to warn other 'clients' of the taxi drivers and our driver was lovely. The restaurant was full of customers delivered by the drivers. Such as a shame our trip was great but feel ripped off by the restaurant. It was super expensive and definitely not worth the visit.
