Chinchero in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Chinchero, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Chinchero appeals to visitors with its Inca ruins, traditional adobe village, and sweeping views of the Sacred Valley and snowcapped Andes. The town is known for its vibrant textile tradition, where local weavers demonstrate age‑old dyeing and weaving techniques. You can explore a colonial church built atop an Inca foundation, wander agricultural terraces, and browse colorful markets rich in handicrafts. Its location between Cusco and the Sacred Valley also makes it a convenient cultural stop on regional itineraries.
With favorites like Centro Arqueológico de Chinchero, Plaza de Chinchero, and MERCADO ARTESANAL DE CUSCO PERÚ, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Restaurante Merienda and Andean Grill Restaurant so you can get the best taste of Chinchero while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Totally gorgeous highly recommend the all inclusive tours here! The local tour groups and guides make the experience effortless, safe and very much. Provide great breakfast and lunch. High quality transport in top maintained Mercedes sprinters with very experienced and safe drivers. Great multilingual guides!

Short walk, great views and lots of history. If you’re into alpaca clothing, this is the place to find the real handmade stuff.

So many awe inspiring views! The fact that you can walk down into the terraces to experience the different microclimates is amazing. Lots of shops up on top. Roads are real rough so prepare.

We stopped at the Chinchero Archaeological Center and absolutely loved it! On the way there, we tried the famous local corn with cheese and some delicious empanadas — such a great experience. The views from up there are breathtaking (and not just because of the altitude 😅). We also got to see some alpacas wandering around, which made the visit even more special. Definitely worth a stop!

i saw the sun and the moon in the sky here at the same time…so it’s quite amazing 😻

Interesting archaeological site with terraces, colonial influence, and great views of the surrounding mountains. A nice stop to learn about Andean history and culture.

Chinchero is an amazing archaeological site where people still live. Photos and videos I’m sharing are from the fiesta of the Virgen de Natividad, the patron saint.

MERCADO ARTESANAL DE CUSCO PERÚ is a large indoor market located near Narciso de la Colina, offering a wide variety of local crafts and souvenirs at reasonable prices. Visitors can find everything from handmade products to second-hand items, with many vendors open to bargaining. The market is conveniently situated close to Plaza de Armas and approximately three blocks from Qoricancha, making it a great shopping destination for those exploring the area.
In A Nutshell: -This market is the best place to get your Cusco souvenirs. -The prices are much cheaper than Plaza de Armas, Ollantaytambo shops & better quality than Aguas Calientes. -You can haggle the price too which I liked. -The have an ATM machine to use in case you don't have cash b/c none of the merchants accepted credit cards. Overall, I liked shopping here, zero pressure & very good quality items at a very reasonable price!

Many local crafts for all tastes and good prices. For those who like to walk, it is relatively close to the Plaza de Armas and approx. 3 blocks from Qoricancha.
Mariah A — Google review
The place has wonderful things but be careful - we bought something and paid got our change and left and three min later we were followed by a woman saying that we had given them a false bill. We had only gotten money from the atm and she checked the bill when she first got it. The bill was changed for a false one and we ended up at the police station. Not worth buying there!
Mariana C — Google review
Good shopping experience with many options to choose from. Good prices too. There is a stall in the middle somewhere selling second hand stuff too.
M. G — Google review
A huge indoor market with so many shops selling local crafts and souvenirs. We could find all kinds of local crafts and souvenirs we were looking for at this one place. The prices were quite reasonable, and also most vendors were open to bargaining.
Andrew K — Google review
You'll find everything souvenir wise for cheaper here than around the plaza or San Pedro Market. Make sure to walk around and compare prices before you buy. Cheaper places are towards the back corners
Natalie C — Google review
Best place to buy your souvenirs for the whole family. The vibe inside is calm and the sellers are not aggressive as usual.
Marvin C — Google review
Nice place but the prices are set really high for the same items you can get at plaza de armas!

Restaurante Merienda

Espresso bar
Restaurante Merienda, a cozy eatery in Chinchero town, offers excellent service and a warm atmosphere. This small family-run establishment is known for its attentive staff and unobtrusive approach. The food served here is considered of good quality, especially when compared to other options in the area. With its panoramic views of the landscape through the windows, it is an ideal spot for lunch while exploring the nearby round, church, and Chinchero Market.
Located on a steep sloped cobblestone street near the open marketplace this place is worth the climb up. The food is delicious, the prefix meal cost more than most places but the value is more than most places. I loved the crispy skinned grilled trout and quinoa flan. The meat soup was also very flavorful. The chef is very much in love with her work and it shows. The server seemed a bit overwhelmed and could not communicate clearly with us. However the complementary empanadas made up for that 💗. I’d go back and try from their regular menu next time. 🙏

We had the grilled trout with risotto and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was, with crispy skin and fresh corn risotto. Staff is excellent.

Amazing. I have been here in mid May. We were a group with more or less 20people with reservation and the service was efficient and the food was so good. Very nice experience. Also very important, the staff was so nice and kind with us. Love from Portugal 🤍

Really good food, also for the eye! Even found vegan options! Nice few of the town, right outside the archeological site. Friendly staff! Had a really good time there! Although asking for 7Soles for a simple water without gas is a bit too much for my taste. Yes, food is more pricy too, but worth it! Enjoyed for example sweet potato ravioli with sage sauce!
Carina — Google review
Good service by the small family run business. Attentive and not imposing. Food is consider relatively good for Chinchero town. If you are visiting the round, church & Chinchero Market, this is a good place to have lunch and with a great view of landscape through the window. Recommended.

We stopped in here to use the restroom and grab an empanada snack while leaving Chinchero. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the food was fresh—definitely worth a stop!
Stephanie — Google review
Lovely hosts, beautiful dining room just as the view through panoramic windows. We had homemade ravioli with sweet potato and panfried trout in capers sauce. The ravioli were better than many restaurants in Italy and the fish had beautifuly cookedl crispy skin. Everything was seasoned perfectly. Perhaps a little pricey for Peru, but very much recommended. Would come back.

Our tour guide took us to eat lunch here, and I was so glad he did. This place is a small family run restaurant, but the presentation of the food is more like a high-end restaurant. Not only was the food presentation amazing so was the flavors. So delicious.

Andean Grill Restaurant is a cozy spot where you can enjoy delicious Andean cuisine. The friendly staff accommodates walk-ins and offers great service in English. The alpaca meat dishes are perfectly cooked and flavorful, with options like alpaca burger and steak. While some patrons found the chips too thick, others enjoyed the diverse menu featuring alpaca and beef heart. The restaurant also offers discounts to passersby, adding to its appeal.
Had a wonderful dining experience at Andean Grill Restaurant in Cusco! This cozy and vibrant spot really impressed me with its warm atmosphere, excellent food, and live music that made the evening even more special. I started with a Pisco Sour, and it was one of the best I had during my trip perfectly balanced and refreshing. For the main course, I tried the grilled trout and a mixed fish grill, both of which were cooked to perfection. The flavors were fresh and authentic, with just the right touch of local spices. The presentation was also beautiful, adding to the overall experience. What truly stood out was the live traditional music playing in the background. It added a lovely cultural touch and created a relaxed, joyful mood in the restaurant. The staff were friendly, attentive, and happy to explain the dishes and make recommendations. Whether you’re craving quality Peruvian cuisine or just want to enjoy a great evening with music and local drinks, I highly recommend this place. A must-visit restaurant in Cusco!

Me and my boyfriend went to eat at the restaurant that was recommended by our tour guide. I ordered the menu with starter, main, desert for 45 soles, and my boyfriend had the chicken napolitana. The food was tasty but mine was cold (I believe they prepared to be served with my boyfriend's food, that's why mine was cold). I asked them to heat the food but it took so long as they were preparing the food again. I was starving and it was not so great to wait so long. The environment is nice, but I believe there is other restaurants with better food with the same price.

The food and experience was great. Fast and efficient service. And the food was fantastic. Live music as well. I had a fantastic time
Johan — Google review
Amazing food. Large portion sizes. Definitely recommend the Aji de Apollo for the great yellow sauce flavor. The Chiri Uchu was very filling and could definitely be shared with another person if you are not too hungry. 10/10. There happened to be live music tonight too!
Natalie G — Google review
The place was okay and crowded. Service was fast. Trucha w/wine was very good but tomatoes soup didn't. Overall, a good place but very touristy. Prices are reasonable.
Juan S — Google review
The presentation and the live traditional music were definitely the highlight of the whole dining experience. I’d say the food itself was pretty average, but the atmosphere more than made up for it. What I didn’t really appreciate was the service, they initially offered a 35 soles deal for a 3-course meal outside the restaurant but once I got there, they told me to order from the regular menu instead. I didn’t really mind in the end, but still, not the best first impression.

Tasty and delicious food!! Good size and price for all you receive! Amazing service! I came in feeling bad because of the altitude sickness and waiters were very attentive, they offered me chicken soup and also gave me Tea and something in a napkin for my headache. I felt very much better after that! Very warm service!. On my review just have some pictures of what my husband ate! But it was much more than you can see here.
Kel P — Google review
Very attentive and caring service! We love all our food- Grilled Alpaca with Pepper sauce, Chicken Soup and Ceviche. The portion was huge, we were super satisfied. Beers are very reasonable priced as well. They have live local music performance at night.
