Plaza
Plaza Mayor de San Francisco is a bustling public square in the heart of La Paz, Bolivia. It is dominated by a colonial-era cathedral and convent and features vibrant street art and regular fairs. The surrounding area offers diverse experiences, from the tree-lined Prado to the upscale neighborhood of Miraflores.
Beautiful church at the central square with such a lively space and many street foods! Yummy beef heart! Great place to watch people!

Great place to walk with significant history, some historical buildings this is known as Plaza Murillo and is located in the old town, Casco Viejoa and serves as the heart of Bolivia's political life. The plaza is surrounded by significant buildings such as the Presidential Palace, the National Congress of Bolivia, and the Cathedral of La Paz. It was originally named Plaza Mayor and later Plaza de Armas but it was renamed in honor of Pedro Murillo, a hero of Bolivia's independence. It’s a very vibrant place.
Ross D — Google review
I was there by 7 am on a Saturday. It was not crowded. The church was open to public and it was amazing.
Warshi D — Google review
This is the central square of La Paz. It is a wide open space, always busy and crowded with people. The traffic is heavy and the commerce non stop. It is the place where political protests gather. The basilica of San Francisco de Assisi is its most iconic building. It was built between the 16th and 17th century in Andean Baroque style.
Andreas K — Google review
Pretty enough but hardly world class in comparison to others
SB — Google review
Located in the historic center of La Paz, it's a beautiful building, surrounded by other cultural places and local traditional food. The city is really high above sea level, so take it slow, is difficult to do common stuff even walk and breath sometimes, so drink a lot of water and tea. @Aventure.dos

The Witches Market, also known as Mercado de las Brujas, is a unique and intriguing destination in La Paz. Located just a short walk from the hotel, this market offers a wide variety of items associated with strange and occult practices. Visitors can find dried llama fetuses, medicinal herbal remedies, aphrodisiac balms, ritual figurines, and more. The market is particularly known for its dried llama fetuses which are believed to bring good luck and protection.
Great artisanal market. Beautiful local goods such as scarves, bags, clothes in original lama or alpaca wool. Best place to buy souvenirs and to help the local economy. Plus it's a very nice walk to have close to other local attractions. Don't miss it!
Nathalie P — Google review
Visiting the Witches Market in La Paz was such a unique and unforgettable experience. The market is full of fascinating items, from traditional remedies to mystical charms and ritual supplies. Every seller I spoke with was incredibly friendly, patient, and eager to share their knowledge about local witchcraft traditions and spiritual beliefs. Their warm hospitality made exploring even more enjoyable. If you're ever in La Paz, don't miss this magical place-you'll leave with amazing memories and maybe even a special souvenir.
Christian L — Google review
Such a beautiful and interesting place. Filled with vibrant colours and everything you could possible need! Definitely worth a visit!
Ailish C — Google review
The Witches’ Market (Mercado de las Brujas / Mercado de Hechicería) is located around Calles Linares and Jiménez, near the historic district of La Paz, close to San Francisco Church. It’s run primarily by Aymara women (chifreras / yatiri) who sell items for traditional / spiritual practices (herbs, charms, potions, dried animals, etc.). It was designated as Intangible Cultural Heritage of La Paz partly because it is a living expression of cultural and spiritual traditions.
Vakhtang J — Google review
It’s really just a street lined with tourist shops - I wouldn’t call it much of an attraction. There’s a mixture of mass-produced textile crafts (clothing/bags/…), artisan alpaca-based stores, and some bohemian stores selling cultural items (probably the most interesting aspect of the street).
Harry W — Google review
So many stores and little trinkets to take home as gifts and souvenirs. A couple of restaurants there too. Whether you’re looking for local artists with their brand or general souvenirs you’ll definitely find it there
Haneen H — Google review
The Witches’ Market in La Paz is a very unique place! You can find traditional items and it’s a great spot to buy souvenirs and Patagonia jackets.
Leah L — Google review
The Witches’ Market in La Paz is more than a quirky stop — it’s a fascinating insight into Bolivia’s indigenous roots, spiritual beliefs, and traditions that still thrive in modern-day life. It’s weird, wonderful, and one of the most distinctive markets in South America. If you're curious about the mystical or open to the magical, this place will leave a lasting impression.

Flea & Street Markets
Mercado Rodríguez, also known as Lanza or Camacho markets, is a vibrant and bustling marketplace in La Paz, Bolivia. Here, vendors in colorful traditional dress sell a variety of goods including fish from Lake Titicaca and potatoes from the Andes. The market offers everyday dishes like Chairo soup and is especially lively on weekends when it spreads out over surrounding streets and squares. Visitors can sample Api, fresh fruit juices, exotic fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, and more.
We enjoyed this authentic mercado so much more than the touristy witches market, totally different experience. No souvenirs to buy, at least not on a weekday and the cholas don't like their pictures taken. We were utterly charmed and found prices fair.
Shivaya G — Google review
Beautiful market. Mostly eatable things but still very nice. Wish we had some thing like that at home.
Frank L — Google review
This is a must see if you are visiting La Paz. The market itself is quite large, the women wearing their traditional dresses are stunning and the place is busy and vibrant. Lots of vegetables, fruit, seafood and meat. Worth the walk here.
Team T — Google review
Green market. Fruit and vegetables mostly. A good part of local market to find fruit, vegetables, fish and egg. I enjoyed my time exploring it. During weekend it even gets bigger and more crowded
Zahra B — Google review
This is one of the most genuine experiences you will have in La Paz. The market is enormous, outdoor and indoor shops and kiosks, literally on the street, selling everything you will ever imagine. The market is not organized, there are no sections, and the best way to find what you will need is either by asking or walking up and down. People are very friendly and sweet, there is no risk whatsoever.
Andreas K — Google review
An O.G. Street market made for the locals by the locals. You can find any kind of meat, fish, vegetable, fruit, and anything else you can think of. A great experience in La Paz!
Stefano C — Google review
I love going to Mercado Rodriguez: fresh fruit, veggies, great meat. I tend to prefer afternoons as its a lot quieter and empty. Having a casera is the best. I definitely recommend going to this market, so fun and such a wide variety of products. The best!! Also great for buying cleaned fresh fish.

Sucre Square, also known as Plaza Sucre, is a green central square in the heart of the medium-sized city of Sucre. It features a statue of statesman Antonio José de Sucre and is overlooked by a small church. The square serves as a convenient meeting point and is surrounded by restaurants and shops. However, it's important to note that there is a famous prison located across the street, so caution is advised when considering any unofficial prison tours.
The tour was excellent! Matt was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable about the city, the history and culture. He was most entertaining and I would highly recommend this tour!

A lot of history happened here, which you should find out about before visiting. We were lucky enough to find a very good local guide, Max, from Red Hat, doing a walking tour that included this dafuq square. It's also a very short distance from a couple of museums and of course there cathedral is right across the street.

The name they call this square is San Pedro. The prison is located here, you can pay to enter. Also people pay to live there as it has everything apparently. The square itself has a few vendors and a good ice-cream/milkshake place there also there's a church(San Pedro)

A tidy public square, not too large, with a large statue that serves as a handy meeting point. This place is also called Plaza Sucre. There is a famous prison located right across the street; I was warned by a local tour guide to avoid all prison tours as they are not officially sanctioned and could be dangerous.

Wild Rover La Paz is a vibrant hostel that perfectly captures the spirit of adventure and fun in the heart of Bolivia's capital. With its lively Irish-themed bar, guests can enjoy regular live music and nightly drink specials, making it an ideal spot for those looking to socialize and party. The hostel boasts spacious common areas, including a cozy bean bag TV room with cable access and a sunny patio where you can unwind.
Excellent service from both the reception (thanks Jesùs!) as the activities company indoors. I could check-in at night, have a quiet night of sleep (even with the bar/party activities going on!), meet new people and make the most of my time in La Paz!

Salsa on Friday night with Pipe was the best!!! We had so much fun! There is such a great atmosphere in the bar and hostel in general and we’re really looking forward to all the other activities they have going on each day!

This hostel is very fun and social. The bar has great vibes and Nelson was so high energy and fun. The rooms are clean and the place is much bigger than I first thought. The place feels very clean and seems like they regularly service the bathroom. The location is within walking distance of a lot of things. Overall, a great stay.

Great place to stay. Meet lots of friendly people and the rooms are away from the bar if you don't want to get involved! The free mixology class is great fun. Also easy to book stuff at a reasonable rate with the on site travel agent!
Craig H — Google review
We booked a private double room which was really good - clean, private, quiet etc. It’s definitely a party hostel, although we found it to be too big/too busy to meet people. Theres only 1 bar and its PACKED to the rafters, you can’t barely move or get to order a drink let alone talk to people over the loud atmosphere. We wished for more opportunity to chat and get to know others. Staff were over it, which is kind of fair tourists are annoying, but still, not very nice or helpful. La Paz location isn’t great, you’re far away from anything like restaurant’s and markets and atms, you are better off staying by the Church (San Fransico) and up around the witches market to really be in La Paz.
Laura E — Google review
Hostel staff were helpful, but the noise in the dorms was a bit too much - couldn't get to sleep until 2:30am due to the loud music and partying directly outside the room. If you're planning to be part of the party it'd be fine, but if you've got anything on the next morning, skip this one! Moved to another hostel after one night which was the same price but much nicer and quieter.

The intricate facades and historical significance of these buildings offer visitors a glimpse into Bolivia's rich political and cultural heritage.
Ground zero of Bolivian politics, with the Presidential Palace and National Congress host here in some historic colonial buildings. Also a very beautiful cathedral is found in La Plaza and the open space around this square is very well guarded 24 hrs/day with plenty of military units and special police forces. The surrounding streets can be a nice surprise for visitors, with another main attractions of La Paz, starting from museums, mercados, boutique-shops, clubs, theaters, different churches and different impressive buildings.

Great to people watch and see Camino market 0km. Pigeons are pretty out of control, circa London 1985. Buildings of modern and old are mixed, changing of guards also possible to see. Only downside some off characters around, valuables as usual keep them close.

Located in downtown La Paz, Bolivia, The Carrot Tree Centro is a popular spot among health-conscious travelers. This new addition to the city offers a menu filled with nutrient-rich and low-fat options such as pasta, salads, and sandwiches. The restaurant boasts an eclectic collection of Bolivian-inspired artwork that adds character to the place. With its rooftop location providing stunning views of the city skyline, this Irish-owned establishment also offers great brunch options and vegetarian dishes.
We came here for brunch and were really impressed by the extensive menu—lots of options to choose from! I had the Full Breakfast with extra avocado and it was really good. The coffee was surprisingly great too, and they had soy milk which was a plus. Service was alright, though it would’ve been nice to sit upstairs. Still, for the price and portion size, it was excellent value and kept us full all day!

Had a lovely brunch / afternoon tea here. Hidden away but worth the find. Great food and gluten free options too. Service was friendly.

Excellent stop! Was meandering through all the touristy shops and accidentally found this place. The restaurant is located on the second floor. You have to go into a building of shopping stalls to get to this restaurant. Was greeted as we entered and was given menus in English. The restaurant was clean and cutely decorated. My husband and I shared a beer, coca tea and a grilled chicken, avocado bacon sandwich with small seasoned round potatoes. The food and interactions were excellent! What a gem! Delicious vegan options and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Had the vegan breakfast platter that was quite filling and the pancakes. They were able to make them vegan, without egg and soy milk, they were like clouds! Sooo fluffy and delicious(mine were made with all purpose flour)! They also have the option to make them gluten free if necessary. Their lemongrass tea was a very nice surprise, very fresh and flavorful.

The best place for breakfast in La Paz!! They have something for everyone (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free etc). The food is great and also good value for money. It's a nice place to chill and they have fast wifi as well. 10/10 service too!
Hannah S — Google review
50min wait for our food!! The desert (pancakes) had burnt parts and came with our main dish so by the time we started eating it, it was dry and we had to get an extra maple syrup for it to be edible. The best is to go to this place when there’s not a lot of people otherwise you might get a bad experience.
Chloé G — Google review
I think the main selling point of this place is the view. The food was large but didn't taste as good as I anticipated it to be. Staff speaks English. Overall I think there are better places to eat for cheaper
Guiping X — Google review
A truly lovely spot, amazingly located with a stellar view of the city on the upper level. The food is very generous in portion size (my partner had the pique macho and took some home), and very flavourful. We came here many times during our stay in La Paz. Got one of the breakfast / brunch platters and they kindly substituted the ham etc for really nicely cooked tofu. The fruit and granola was a perfect mid afternoon snack, and the huancaína pasta was super yummy. The brownie was good but the true dessert star is their maracuya / passionfruit cheesecake -- mind-blowing! It's a great place to spend a chill afternoon or grab any meal -- there's never any pressure to leave, and the vibes are just great. Already miss this place!

The menu features unique Bolivian sandwiches on sourdough focaccia, charcuterie including llama charqui and salami, local cheese plates, and heartier dishes with Andean ingredients.
Hip, modern coffee bar in central La Paz that I visited several times. Decor and service are wonderful. They speak English here. Food is excellent and they really care about the sourcing of their ingredients, which are all Bolivian. This place caters toward western standards and prices. They even sell wine!

YOU MUST TRY TARTAR DE LLAMA!!! One of the best things I’ve ever eaten. It almost melts in your mouth. The other food was also good but that was a stand out winner. The coffee was good and I loved the aesthetic of this place too. Staff were lovely! Worth the price.

The place has a fenomenal atmosphere and decoration. Waiters are not experienced and not welcoming. The menu was missing 30% of the dishes and only a small amount if the cakes. We ordered 2 capuccinos, one carrot cake and one sandwich de lomo. Capuccinos arrived cold and hat to send the back to warm them. The carrit cake was good. The sandwich was terrible. Meat was overcooked and old. It was cold with soggy bread. Seemed like it was done 7 hrs ago with meat cooked days ago and definitely not sirloin. Very hard and chewy. Took a bite and had to return it. Staff did not agree and pushed to do the full charge, which show the lack of experience and no customer service training. Terrible experience and overpriced

Popular Cocina Boliviana is a small restaurant in La Paz that's popular among locals and visitors alike. The name truly reflects its status as a gem of the city, with a first-come, first-serve policy and long lines forming even before it opens. The three-course prix fixe menu offers traditional Bolivian flavors at an affordable price, making it well worth the wait.
We arrived at 11:30 and were seated when the restaurant opened at 12. What followed was a quick, seamless experience packed with local flavour and friendliness. The restaurant offers an innovative take on Bolivian cuisine. Every dish felt exciting and comforting, with fresh flavors that showcase the quality of ingredients and thought put in to each recipe. Service was warm and attentive without being overbearing. We were in and out quickly, but never felt rushed. I’ll be back if I return to La Paz. Highly recommended for anyone curious about bold, inventive food with a warm neighborhood feel.

Absolutely amazing food in La Paz, some of the best during my South America trip. Make sure you get there early, no table bookings and a need to queue. Be careful as many have a local guide queue for them, this means a group of 10 could be in front of you without realising. Simple menu, we chose to share to enjoy we got to try all things available…all dish’s made to perfection and a great experience. We got to sit at the bar and loved feeling like we were in the kitchen with the efficient buzz of the team. 2 hour sitting is pretty strict as they sit people straight into your seats, making the most of their popularity and good food.

Just a nice experience :) went here twice because the food was so delicious. You can chose one from two starters and two desserts and three main courses. For the money of 99 BoB with a drink included absolutely amazing. It’s nice to feel a little bit bougie for the price with how they decorate the meals. Would recommend going 11:30 am before opening to stand in line. Otherwise there’s a chance to put your name on the list and come back at 1:30 pm.

I really appreciate the concept of this restaurant! This restaurant is open only for lunch, between 12:00 and 14:30. Be quick as it gets busy very fast. If you come early enough but it's already full, you can put yourself on the waiting list for the same day and get assigned a time to return. For only 99 BOB (as of October 2025) you get a three course menu consisting of a starter, a main and a desert. The price also already includes a beverage. You can pick from approximately 3 starters, 4 mains and two deserts. The menu varies frequently. The food is a modern interpretation of traditional Bolivian dishes. All dishes are prepared and presented to the highest standards. Definitely a recommendation if you happen to be in La Paz!

Amazing! What a cool culinary experience. Great service, buzzy atmosphere and worth the hype. Incredible value, 3 course meal with drink for around £10!! Vegetarian options were great. The starter was my favourite - delicious Russian salad tart, the best pastry I’ve had in months. The chicken main wasn’t my favourite, but a very interesting and experimental dish nonetheless, a unique experience. Lovely waitstaff that gave you an explanation of each dish and very attentive without being too much or feeling rushed, especially given they don’t have a long service window and lots of eager customers. A must go to if you’re in La Paz!

Absolutely delicious and beautifully presented food. Such a good price for what you get (99 bolivianos as of October 2025), and the portions are big too! We queued at 11.40 and got into the first sitting but you can give them your name if you don’t get in at 12pm and come back for 1.30pm.

Exceptional and eye-catching three course meal for a few dollars! Service is perfect. A place you must visit when you’re in la paz! Be there early enough to queue up!

One of the outstanding things to do in Bolivia. Michelin star quality & presentation. Incredible value as they include bread, juice & water with the 3 courses for 99bs. To avoid queueing you can arrive at 12:15 when all the tables will be taken and get on the list to walk right in at 1:15! Planning my 3rd visit!
