Baratti in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Baratti, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Baratti is a small Tuscan gulf known for its curved sandy beach, clear Tyrrhenian waters, and backdrop of maritime pine woods. Just above the bay lies the archaeological area of Populonia, where visitors can see Etruscan tombs and remains of an ancient coastal city. The area offers swimming, snorkeling, coastal walks, and sunset views over the Gulf of Baratti in a setting that feels more relaxed than many larger Italian resorts. Nearby medieval towns and wine-producing countryside add easy day-trip options.
With favorites like Casa Dinosauro, Casa Esagono - BACO archivio Vittorio Giorgini, and Parco Costiero di Rimigliano, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like PIZZERIA LA PERLA BARATTI and Ristorante Canessa so you can get the best taste of Baratti while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Park
Nature & Parks
Rimigliano Coastal Park, located in San Vincenzo, Tuscany, Italy, offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural wonders. The park features over 7 km of pristine sandy beaches with slightly thicker grains than other beaches in the area. Accessible paths wind through the park to reach the wild beach where visitors can enjoy swimming and water sports. The surrounding pine forest adds a delightful scent to the air, creating a serene atmosphere for beachgoers.
Beautiful, just great beach, not yet fully commercialized, and I hope it stays that way. Bring your own parasol and beach equipment, wnd enjoy! There are lifeguards every 300m or so, so pretty safe.
Tomislav Z — Google review
The water is clean. It becomes deep faster on this part of the beach and there is a few rocks under the water. Not as many people on the beach as if you go further to the north. There is a beach bar and restaurant near by a few hundred meters from the beach
Jens C — Google review
Lovely unspoilt beach with beautiful clear sea that was actually quite warm. It is sheltered by forested area with plenty of parking on the road if it is not in walking distance but we stayed at the Hu Albatross holiday park so just walked across in 10-15 mins. Lovely beach, definitely recommend a visit
Andrew C — Google review
Wonderful Natural area. Free toilets and after-swim showers. All areas are maintained clean by the San Vincenzo municipality. Greatest service ever. There are many parking spots: 50% of them are free. The others cost €. 1.50 per hour.
Paolo A — Google review
Nice beach, clear water. We enjoyed so much.
Srećko Đ — Google review
The beach is very long and there's space for everyone. Part of it is surrounded by beautiful pine forest that gives amazing scent to the air. Water was amazingly warm in mid September.

Lovely views and very long beaches...beach only ok..very bitty - not sandy..no facilities..naturalist beach next door... Lovely as a natural beach.

Architectural Buildings
Nestled along the scenic Etruscan road that connects Volterra and Piombino, Casa Esagono - BACO archivio Vittorio Giorgini stands out with its unique architectural design. This captivating structure is part of a delightful walking route starting from one of Baratti's parking lots.
(Translated by Google) Designed and built in 1959 by the Florentine architect Vittorio Giorgini, who spent his summer holidays here with family and friends, it is an innovative modular structure built in wood (except for the foundations) with a characteristic hexagonal shape, itself made of hexagons, which has his reference in the hive. After some years of abandonment, the structure was recently restored and is in excellent condition. It should become a point of reference for promoting cultural and artistic initiatives. It can be reached with a short 5-minute walk from a nearby car park and, if you are in that area, it is definitely worth going to see it. Unlike the nearby Casa Dinosauro (also built by Giorgini) you can approach and admire it up close, hoping that some idiot doesn't go and damage it. It is currently managed by a cultural association.

(Original) Bellissima 🖤✨ accesso libero esterno.

(Translated by Google) A truly evocative and peaceful place. It is no coincidence that it was chosen for the construction of this house, which has recently been renovated and is completely renovated. I recommend the visit coming from the car park and returning from the beach. (Translated by Google) Casa Esagono, designed by Vittorio Giorgini in the 1950s, is a unique architecture, included among the valuable works of the twentieth century by the Ministry of Culture. The house, raised on six wooden pillars, develops on a single floor with seven hexagonal modules and a pavilion roof. A central spiral staircase allows access, offering a panoramic view of the Mediterranean scrub and the Tyrrhenian coast. Exposure to the sea and atmospheric agents has deteriorated the structure over time but it has recently been the subject of reconstruction and restoration (both of the exterior and furnishings) and has become available to the public again for visits and exhibitions.

(Translated by Google) The house itself is very fascinating, especially due to its particular shape. It is located along the Etruscan road Volterra-Piombino next to the Saldarini house. It is the less famous of the two, but this too deserves at least a visit from the outside.

(Translated by Google) If it were better valorised and adequately prepared for a use congruent with the typical nature of the place in which it is located (I am thinking of a location for exhibitions on themes that concern the territory, premises for courses and/or cultural screenings, a holiday home for children, . ..), I would give a 5 star rating.

(Translated by Google) Unusual. A unique architecture that has attracted me to the Golfo di Baratti for the third time now. Very close by, there are lovingly furnished cat houses by local residents. The animals are well-fed, don't suffer from thirst, but unfortunately, they are not neutered.

Casa Dinosauro, also known as Casa Saldarini, is a must-visit attraction in Baratti. Visitors can embark on a simple 20-minute walk from one of the parking lots in Baratti through the woods to reach this unique house. The house was built by visionary architect Vittorio Giorgini in the 1960s using concrete and electro-welded mesh, showcasing an unprecedented technique for its time.
Very peculiar place, a nice walk in the shade, far from the madding crowds

(Translated by Google) It is a holiday home designed and built in 1962 by the Florentine architect Vittorio Giorgini. More than a dinosaur, the shape of the house resembles that of a whale. It is a pioneering work, very interesting and in a certain way a precursor of modern examples of blob architecture, even if, at the time, Giorgini was considered more of a bizarre architect. The house, unlike the adjacent Casa Esagono, is completely fenced and privately owned, therefore visible only from the outside, although, on certain occasions, it is possible to visit it. It can be reached with a short 5-minute walk on a dirt road from the nearby car park and, if you find yourself in those parts, it is worth going and seeing it.

Water
The Gulf of Baratti, located on the Etruscan Coast in Tuscany, is a picturesque bay with a crescent-shaped beach and a backdrop of ancient pine trees. The area is renowned for its historical significance, as it was once an important Etruscan settlement and a major center for iron production. Today, the gulf attracts tourists and locals alike with its clear waters and opportunities for snorkeling.
As you visit the Gulf of Baratti you must walk up to Populonia for stunning view.

Pizza restaurant
Ristorante La Perla, an Italian eatery situated by the ocean, offers a delectable selection of wood-fired pizzas and seafood dishes. The casual setting provides stunning views of Baritti Bay from its terrace. Their sea food pizza features a thin crust that is highly satisfying. Additionally, their grilled sea bass dish is also well-received. Patrons can indulge in standard fare such as pizza and paninis while enjoying the breathtaking view.
Amazing view, good drinks

You get what you see..... Nice location and perfect view, just not cozy or good atmosphere and the pizza is nothing at all. Pizza in a box and drinks in plastic cups. Only place open, so we had to give it a try, but cant recommend.

Very good pizza, stunning views, affordable prices, but the place seems to be understaffed. I don't mind that we get the pizza in carton boxes, but needing to clean the chairs from sand left by previous guests is not nice.

it is not really a restaurant, you get your pizza out of the box and your drinks in plastic cups, my pizza was good but not like a real italian pizza we are use to

Restaurant
Ristorante Canessa is an elegant dining spot offering seafood and pasta dishes in a charming whitewashed dining room. The restaurant boasts a splendid panoramic terrace with stunning views of the gulf, providing an amazing backdrop for a memorable dining experience. Visitors praise the great food, attentive service, and the breathtaking view from the terrace. While some suggest improvements in restroom maintenance, others appreciate the noble ambiance and friendly service.

We have been here 14 years ago when our son was 1. Now we are back in the area and it was again amazing. Very good food. The kitchen adapted to a very special vegetarian pasta which made my wife very happy. The view is astonishing. The service is like you have been there every week
Jan H — Google review
Amazing view, great food and excellent attentive service. I am only giving one star less to the service as it was overall great. However, management should take care about maintenance of the rest rooms. It‘s a shame with all the effort and obvious care to all other areas, these spaces are largely neglected and gross.
Milena P — Google review
Not a great experience. Came here at 6 pm. The kitchen was closed but there was one server here. When ordering some overpriced tomatoes with mozzarella, she chopped up two tomatoes and served them without knife and fork at first. The pizza they serve at the time we were there was frozen. The only reason it has two stars is because it has a nice view and the food might be decent when the chef is there. Can’t recommend it if you want to have a quick snack.
Benny — Google review
Very noble ambient and calm, friendly service. Expect around 50€ per person if you want to really get to know the full experience. Nice selection of wine. Mostly locals here, we loved it.

Bad, bad restaurant. Don’t even think about making a reservation. The service, the food all is awful. And also the owner is a very unpleasant man. How is it even possible this restaurant still exists? After the starter, we left. That bad. We quickly went back to our favorite restaurant. (Sometimes you want to go somewhere else for a change, but this was shocking!!!).
