A majestic and spiritually rich temple dating back to the 14th century, Wat Yai is one of the most revered Buddhist sites in Thailand. The centerpiece is Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, a stunning golden Buddha statue considered one of the most beautiful in the country. The main hall is adorned with intricate gold-and-red patterns, crystal chandeliers, and detailed murals — a breathtaking sight that reflects both artistry and devotion. It’s not just a tourist attraction but a living temple where locals come to pray and pay respect. Whether you're seeking peace, beauty, or a deeper cultural experience, this temple delivers it all. Verdict: A sacred masterpiece of Thai spirituality — timeless, tranquil, and awe-inspiring.

If you're in Phitsanulok, don't miss out on visiting กนกภัณฑ์ ก๋วยเตี๋ยวสุโขทัย. This popular shop is known for its excellent service and diverse menu, which includes noodles, Chinese steamed dumplings, steamed buns, and Thai curries.
Ladies working there were SUPER friendly! I’m pescatarian, and they showed which buns have no chicken/pork, offered to make noodles with fish/vegetables! Noodles and buns were very tasty, a lot of fish :)

Good taste for Thai breakfast as Dim sum, noddles and Thai beverage in Phitsanulok.
Kitthisak K — Google review
Their dimsum is quite diversified comparing to many dimsum restaurants in this town. The taste of their dumplings and other pork dimsums is not really authentic as the making process is not that delicate like in other authentic chinese restaurants but it is still acceptable as they set the price to be low and put more ingredients to their food. So i find this compensable. The most distinguish thing about this restaurant is the service. Their service-minded waiters and staffs are signature of this restaurant, they will even walk you to your car and talk sweet to their customers everytime.
Gren W — Google review
Mediocre dimsum, dry and little taste, not well seasoned sauce, ridiculous, extreme hot tea price of 5 baht. Don't ever come here especially when you have a much better choice just across the street. Note that this jar of hot tea shown here was 5 baht.

Park
Chom Nan Chaloem Phra Kiat Park, situated in the heart of Phitsanulok and adjacent to the Nan River, offers a picturesque promenade that provides stunning vistas of the city and river, as well as nearby temples. This expansive public space is an ideal destination for families or friends seeking leisurely strolls or bike rides. Emulating European designs, an inviting pedestrian and bicycle track has been constructed along the river's course through downtown Phitsanulok.
The Chom Nan Chaloem Phra Kiat promenade is located in the center of Phitsanulok and by the Nan River. It is an open space with very nice views of the city and the river, as well as its nearby temples. Perfect place to go with family or friends. P J — Google review
We went to Phitsanulok by chance and really did not regret our visit. It feels like it's still unspoiled and kind of away from the busy tourist hotspots. Eating budget is half of what you need in places like Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui or even in the northern area like Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai. Restaurant staff trying to grab you by the arm to get you into their establishment is non existent. It's no simple task to even have a menu card in English (which we did not consider an issue though). When arriving at the bus terminal it felt a bit strange not having the usual army of taxi drivers to welcome you. So Phitsanulok was really a breath of fresh air when you've known the busier places of Thailand.

Wat Nang Phaya is an elaborate temple complex that features ornate pavilions and shrines adorned with rich decorations. It houses a large golden Buddha statue and is considerably less crowded than neighboring temples despite being equally holy. Its history dates back several years, and it is renowned for being the birthplace of the famous amulet/small Buddha image Phra Nang Phaya.
A visit to this temple for Nang Phaya Amulet from temple counter. A historical temple worth visiting especially the peacefulness. Amulets from 2514, 2555 mass chanting ceremonies and modern years are available in temple.
A — Google review
Wat Nang Phaya: It is believed, based on various sources, that Phra Visutthikathari, the queen consort of King Maha Thammaracha and the mother of King Naresuan, established Wat Nang Phaya during the restoration of Wat Ratchaburana, around 2090–2100 BE. At that time, Phitsanulok was a royal city, and the queen held the position of the governor of Songkhwae, while King Maha Thammaracha held the title of Uparaja (deputy king) of Ayutthaya. If you have some free time, it is recommended to visit and experience something new in Phitsanulok Province.

The W — Google review
One of Pitsanulok's historic temples is Wat Nang Phaya. There is nothing wrong with the location, only my emotions. I was quite dismayed to see what they had done with it. The temple has a walkway surrounding it that is similar to the ones found in other temples. There are trash piles along the path rather than Buddha statues. Finding the ideal angle for your shot is really difficult inside the temple. There are numerous setting blocks outside that hide the lovely thing. I feel very down.
Anatchai N — Google review
Very beautiful temple with plenty of parking lot. I visited this place 4 years ago before come back here. The fortune telling stick (เซียมซี) is quite accurate (for me).
AC — Google review
Exponentially less crowded than the neighboring temple with no difference in holiness. We’d love to encourage all the buddhists across the country to come visit here more. Your peace of mind will be redeemed, or even reconstructed.

Another long historical temple, not sure when it was built. One of the famous amulet/small Buddha image “Phra Nang Phaya” originated here. Located just beside Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, nearby Nan river.

Phra Buddha Chinnarat

Buddhist temple
Phra Buddha Chinnarat, also known as Luang Por Yai or Phra Buddha-Chinnaraj, is a revered gilded Buddha image located in the prayer hall of Wat Phra Sri in Phitsanulok. This landmark features a flamelike halo and is the second most revered statue in Thai Buddhism. The temple itself showcases Northern Thai architecture and is adorned with depictions of Lord Buddha's life.
The grandest temple in Phitsanulok I supposed. The main hall is full of devotees praying, making merits, and taking photos. Interior is really majestic with all the shimmer and shine. I lost track of time here trying to find my inner peace as I watch the devotees posing with the Buddha statue. There is an inner temple ground where foreigners have to pay 40b to enter. Ticket counter near the main hall.

Most popular temple in Phitsanulok. Visited here every time I came this city. Inside its splendid hall the gold Buddha was there over centuries. The outside of the temple is pure white decorated with golden paintings. Open 6pm till 6pm and most of time they hold pray time at around 5pm.

The most famous temple in this city. Possibly at least a thousand of people visit this temple daily. This inside of the temple is very beautiful and interesting.
Jerry N — Google review
This site holds the second most revered statue in Thai Buddhism, the Phra Budtasishinarat. A 14th century casting of three statues one of which still resides here in Phitsanulok. It's unique for it halo which looks aflame while still following the rules of Sukhothai era statues. The temple itself is a nice example of Northern Thai architecture and the main hall is decorated with stories from the life of Lord Buddha. Around the hall are statue halls, alcoves and a few very nice stupa or chedis as well as a drum and bell tower. Toilets are clean and the souvenirs surprisingly good quality and a fair price. If you are going north you should visit this temple, but remember to respect the local culture and dress modestly.

If you're in Phitsanulok, don't miss out on Pang Muk, a charming little restaurant that specializes in local dim sum. Hoi Kha Rim Nan Noodle Restaurant is a popular spot among local tourists, situated along the scenic Nan River. It's important to distinguish it from imitators in the area. The restaurant offers a unique dining experience with Japanese vibes but serves delicious Thai cuisine at reasonable prices. Guests can enjoy a variety of dishes and appreciate the novelty of sitting with their feet suspended over the edge while being seated on the ground.
Wow, this is the best i have eaten so far. A must go and try to eat there. The Noodle soup is so tasty . A selection of the foods we eat in the pictures. Place is also very traditional and cery cosy. If you translate the name is about sitting legs. and eat soup or something.

It's noodle shop. I found this shop when I was taking a walk beside the river, and so many people were visiting here. Actually there are some other similar shop beside the river, but it seems this shop is the No.1. So I tried. I had Schothai noodle because it was the top on the menu. It was good anyway and the price was not expensive. There service was good and serving speed was so quick. Anyway this shop is located beside the river, so atmosphere was also good.

The best noodle that I have ever had😋. Tom yum soup is their best signature & price is quite cheap & portion is quite enough for one person. Quick service Taste perfect Lots of parking Situated in the center area

It's a lovely local spot, the waitress was sweet and handed us a menu in English. They have a small list of options and some can be with less spice. Flavors were great, not pricey and a local experience, it was nice to eat at a spot where you see a lot of people from around the area. Mango sticky rice is a must, well balanced and tasty. The portions are not huge, so it's good to get some appetizers if you're really hungry.

🌟🌟🌟 Wonderful restaurant with tasty noodles! Very fast service and nice staff. Our family tried a variety of noodles from Tomyum soup to dry noodles. The soup was very flavorful with the mix of spices and had a nice hint of tangy lime. We all loved it. The fried bread with pork (with cucumber onion vinegar) was absolutely stunning. It was perfectly crusty, the radio of bread to pen was perfect. I loved it. 😍 🤤 The fried tofu was well covered and the sauce complimented it nicely. The star of the show is the noodles. The soup noodles was sooooo nice. 🤤 lastly the coconut ice cream 🍨 helped with the perfect ending. I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s a MUST VISIT. 👍 I’ll drop by on my return trip. Enjoy 😊 and a happy trip. - PP 🌱

This place is so cool, I do not know if I can recommend it enough. This was the first time we ever visited it, but if we can go again, we will. It feels more like a Japanese restaurant but it is Thai. The food came really quickly and it was delicious. There were lots of choices and they were well priced. We sat with our feet suspended over the edge, which was cool and it was on the ground. It was comfortable and super interesting. If there is no other place you visit in this town, you must visit this one. I 100% recommend this place.

Chan Royal Palace, located on the west side of the Nan River in Phitsanulok, is a historical site that replicates an ancient palace believed to have been constructed in the 15th century by the kings of Ayutthaya. The complex includes Wat Wihan Thong and a museum detailing the history of the area and its significance as the birthplace and residence of King Naresuan.
CHAN ROYAL PALACE Phitsanulok, Thailand An archaeological site of the ruins of the Chan Palace and several temples. It is was built by King Maha Thammaracha I (Li Thai) of Sukhothai when moved his capital to Phitsanulok in 1362. Roosters of various sizes line this compound and the reasons vary. 🐓Some believe roosters bring luck and protection. 🐓Others believe roosters to be one of the 3 animals (pig & snake also) that represent the 3 deadly sins. 🐓The most famous legend is that Thai Prince Naresuan won a bet with the Burmese prince in a cockfight for the freedom of Ayutthaya.

Chan Palace an ancient palace located on the west side of the Nan River on the north side of Phitsanulok. It is the birthplace of King Naresuan the Great and was his residence when he served as viceroy. At that time, Phitsanulok was an important frontier city of Ayutthaya. The Fine Arts Department has registered ancient monuments and announced ancient land boundaries in 1994. There are many colorful chicken statues in different sizes along the walk way to the shrine which is the representative pet toy of King Naraesuan. This is the must place for visiting in Phitsanulok.

Chan Royal Palace Historical Center

Museum
The Chan Royal Palace Historical Centre, located in Phitsanulok, is a replica of an ancient palace believed to have been constructed in the 15th century by the kings of Ayutthaya. The site includes Wat Wihan Thong and a museum that provides insights into the history of the area, archaeological excavations, and the significance of King Naresuan. Visitors are encouraged to explore the museum before wandering through the palace and temple grounds.
I learned so much and gained so much respect for King Naresuan and about Phitsanulok’s place in Thailand history.

It's... what? The name of this building is Chanh Place. Anyway there was a museum. The building itself is modern building. There are two places as Chanh Place on Google map. This is the modern building. Anyway you can walk to the other Chanh Place directly from here.

This a good place to understand Phitsanoluk history, The site museum display the past of the city and there are staff to introduce the city in thai (foriegner can read the poster). The place is aircon, it is a good cool down after seeing the historical site.

Curiosities aplenty are on show here. It is a tastefully put together museum, that showcases a lot of local history. It is quite compact, plus centrally located too and thus a visit here, can easily be added into a day of wider sightseeing while in town. Highly worthwhile to check out.
Coffee T — Google review
This historic site was the birthplace and home of Thailand's King Naresuan the Great. The Thai people love this king as he liberated them from Burmese invaders. Only some ancient ruins can be seen on the site together with a modern shrine dedicated to the great king. But this historic site sits lonely on the banks of the Nan River with ugly modern buildings almost encroaching and enclosing it. That's a shame as the site needs to be given more respect
Michael S — Google review
This historical site is located in Pisanulok, in the old times it is the Chan Palace, where the King used to lived back in 500+years ago. Inside the museum, it has historical story of the palace and 3D model of the ruin buildings. It's a good study place for anyone who loves history. Free of charge to enter the museum. Parking is free and plenty of place to park at this place.

Great historical place to come to pay respect King Naresuan. Very spacious place. Lots of parking lot, museum, building similarly to Ginger bread style house. It should have a day or half to visit inside the museum and walking around. Recommended.

Recommened for those (especially local) who might think that there's not much to see here. If you appreciate Thai's history, this would be one of a good places to spend half-one hour here. There's also a museum which opens from 9am till (most likely) 4pm. You can also come in and enjoy jogging/biking around the area.

Wat Wihan Thong Historical Site in Phitsanulok is a captivating destination that offers a glimpse into Thailand's rich history. Dating back to the 15th century, this site features impressive ruins of temples, halls, and stupas. The highlight is a massive standing Buddha statue set amidst the ancient structures. While some parts are well-preserved, others show signs of wear and tear from centuries past.
This is a historical site nestled next to the Nan River.. it’s part of a community running park for the public. Access is free and there are several ruins within the large compound. Worth a visit when you are visiting Phitsanulok.

great cafe at the back of a service station. all day breakfasts, good burgers and desserts. plus flat white coffee
Stuart ( — Google review
This restaurant is well designed and the decors, especially the paintings, were amusing. The food tastes good and the portions are big enough to be shared by two. The desserts were impressive, they have limited choices but they were awesome. The drinks were average, I could have liked it more if they served them as how they looked on the menu. Speaking of, the food menu doesn't have photos and no descriptions. The crispy bacon pasta was spicy and it wasn't not specified so my friend requested for extra carbonara sauce just to neutralize the taste. It took a while but they were courteous enough to serve it. Over all, this restaurant is a-okay comparing to other restos around here. Just be prepared to spend a little bit more than usual since it's a bit pricey.

Ban Mai Restaurant is a top dining spot in Phitsanulok, Thailand. It's known for its excellent Thai cuisine and English menu that explains the dishes and ingredients. The restaurant offers unique dishes like Tom Som Pla Nam Nguen and Mat Cha Rai Kang, which are highly recommended. The ambiance is very Thai with wooden decor and air-conditioned rooms. The staff is attentive, service speed is impressive, and the pricing is reasonable.
Quality food popular with local people and the few Westerners who venture into the city. Pleasant to eat in the outside room at this time of year, but there are a/c rooms too.

The restaurant has plenty of parking spaces, good service, and many waiters. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas. There is a wide variety of food to choose from, but the taste tends to be quite too sweet. The prices are relatively high. All of the food I’ve eaten. 1. Fermented Soybean Dip (Lon Tao Jiew). 2. Stir-fried Spicy Smoked Duck. 3. Deep-fried Sheatfish with Garlic. 4. Tom Yum Soup with Fish. 5. Crab Omelette. 6. Orange Juice. 7. 2 buckets of ice. 8. 2 bottles of water. All of it are 1,400 thai baht.

Pricing is also very reasonable... 😁 Summary: Taste 9, Quality 8.5, Staff 7, Service 7, Speed 9, Ambience 7.5, Decoration 7, Cleanliness 8, pricing 9.

Tom Som Pla Nam Nguen (ต้มส้มปลาน้ำเงิน) and Mat Cha Rai Kang(มัจฉาไร้ก้าง) are the must. The first dish is actually authentic thai style soup which rarely found in usual thai restaurant. The taste was absolutely deserve the best of the best of its kind. The second dish was the new kind of thai food. The fish was boneless. They took out all the fish meat, minced and mixed with garlic with some thai herbs, and then put it back under the fish skin, steam it and deep fried again. The taste and texture was very interesting. Will definitely come back to try other dishes.

Not a lot going on, women's clothes, shoes, cosmetics and a few phone shops. Walk around the back of the stalls (along the river) and you will find good food stalls the whole length of the market
Chr I — Google review
What a lot of the reviewers don't seem to understand is that this is a Night Market for Thai folks, it is not Western Tourist oriented. The bulk of the visitors to Phitsanulok are Thais and Asian Buddhists and they are there to see the famous and wonderful Phra Buddha Chinnarat. In terms of Night Markets then, this is their shopping area, while the produce and street food is located down by a train station about 700 meters away. It is for Asian folks with the usual selection of clothing and makeup, bras, jeans and panties and Tshirts, all in sizes far to small for me, fortune tellers, beer, herbal remedies and Thai style souvenirs. You will not see a lot of Westerners, in fact, I saw one other than myself on a beautiful Thursday night. To get there, just leave the train station and walk towrds the river. Phitsanulok Railway Station Night Market is a must-visit spot in Phitsanulok, Thailand. It's a typical Thai night market offering a wide selection of delicious food including curries, grilled meat and fish, desserts, drinks, fruit and more. Food, Glorious Food, & Then Some ... Whether it is French Fries, or Fried Insects, you can pick it up, right here and, an economical price to boot! Came to Phitsanulok from Lopburi via train, which is about 2.5km away. We're travelling to Sukhothai & important to know is some buses go to old Sukhothai, some to new Sukhothai. I'm attaching 2 pics. 1 is full schedule for old ST, the other has only 2 departures noted for new ST.

Very kind people, you won't get lost. If you want to go to OLD sukhothai it's platform 12.

Coffee shop
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Phitsanulok, Pista Cafe is a delightful haven for coffee enthusiasts and food lovers alike. This charming eatery, which operates alongside Veggie Cafe, showcases a modern aesthetic both in its decor and menu offerings. With seating for just 13 to 15 guests, it creates an intimate atmosphere perfect for enjoying expertly brewed house blend "Pista" coffee or specialty beans prepared through various methods like pour-over or espresso.
The superb coffee cafe located in the heart of Phitsanulok. House blend "Pista" coffee beans are served in conventional cups. Speciality coffee beans are available upon request for pour over, aero-pressed, or espresso. Barista is knowledgeable and professional. There are home made cakes and western dishes served as well. Thumbs up!

Poor facility, no parking lots and the street in front of the place is always occupied with motorbikes, so people who come to eat must always keep driving around for few rounds until they find a space to park. This disadvantage has overshadowed its magnificent taste of the burger totally.
Gren W — Google review
Nice place about 10 minutes walk from the train station. They have free WiFi. Service was swift and friendly. The place was full of locals. , Inside has Aircon but there some seats outside too. An iced latte cost. 60 baht.

My wife and I enjoyed a delicious slice of coconut cake, iced matcha espresso and iced chocolate. Everything was very tasty but the chocolate was probably the biggest hit. You could really taste the cocoa.
Dawid R — Google review
Nice and hip place to hang at Phitsanulok. I cant drink coffee so the barista worked some magic with Butterfly pea latte and chocolate tiramisu cheesecake. Impress!
Sim P — Google review
Best place to get coffee in Phitsanulok. Variety choice of coffee beans, tasty cheesecakes, and special drinks available. Food is served here but not recommended.
Yui S — Google review
I would recommend for a coffee lover to try their awesome coffee, especially the nitro cold brew one. Although it is a bit cozy, its taste is reasonable for its price.

A must go cafe in Phitsanulok. We ordered 4 drinks and 3 pieces of cake and it’s all delicious. It’s all homemade cake and bakery. Prices are reasonable. The decoration is simple but cool. And the location is nice, it’s next to the main road. The owner is a couple, male owner making coffee, and female owner making bakery. They are friendly, and the atmosphere is nice. You can visit here and another cafe in Phitsanulok if you are going to the northern part. It’s worth to try.

If you're wandering through Phitsanulok, make sure to stop by "บะหมี่โบราณก๋วยเตี๋ยวรัฐมนตรี" for a taste of traditional Sukothai-style noodles. While the experience may leave you wanting more in terms of portion size and some missing ingredients—like the expected peanuts and lime—the homemade egg noodles are undeniably authentic. The crispy wonton pastry is a delightful addition that elevates your meal.
A very authentic noodle. You don't need to add any seasoning, just eat it.

Advertised as traditonal Sukothai-style noodles in Phitsanulok. Slightly underwhelmed with the small portion size and some ingredients were missing or not quite correct for Sukhothai noodles. Lettuce in the noodles? Missing roughly chopped peanuts and a wedge of lime in the dry noodles. Still needs to be flavoured by separate condiments like dry chili flakes. Crispy wonton pastry was excellent. Love the boat-shaped store front. Had a number of celebrities coming to dine here as evident by photos on the wall.

Restaurant
Cafe Veggie is a trendy and spacious air-conditioned cafe located in the Topland complex near LiThai Guesthouse. It offers a diverse menu including fresh juices, tea, coffee, burgers, homemade potato wedges, smoked salmon croissants, healthy salads, French toast and sorbet. While not exclusively vegetarian or vegan, it provides a range of options for those seeking plant-based dishes. The cozy spot is perfect for a leisurely lunch followed by an exploration of the surrounding area.
This restaurant serves a tasty mixture of vege and non vege food. My favourite dish was the beef burger patty on mashed potatoes with gravy, which was sooo delicious and which I ate almost everyday. Definitely worth checking out.
Matt J — Google review
The name is deceiving in that it serves more non-vegetarian options than the vegan ones. So beware. The choices are very limited. Th food is served hot and it’s fairly yummy.
Dennis O — Google review
Sadly despite the name, there’s no obvious vegan menu. Although you can ask the owner and they can customize a few menu to make it vegan like pumpkin or corn soup for a savory menu. Others you can get vegan are tofu salad, fried onion rings, potato chips or other appetizers. The drinks can be vegan, I really recommend the tropical smoothie, super refreshing in a hot day. The atmosphere in the cafe is a chill vibe with nice thoughtful decorations.

Nice to find some real salads. We tried the citrus salad and the veggies salad. Delicious salad dressings on both. The citrus salad would have been a bit better with something crunchy in it, but overall very happy with both salads.

A hidden gem in Phitsanulok Short walking distance from the train station This is not a pure vegetarian cafe They do have meat and seafood menu Price wise - slight higher if you compare locally You should spend a lazy afternoon here for a meal and soda while enjoying the smoothing music Thankful to be here.
Jason L — Google review
Sooo expensive - 170 Baht for a Veggie Burger - but it also was very very good!! Probably one of the best veggie burgers I've had (unfortunately the picture doesn't look so good) - no burger patty but pumpkin, asparagus, mushrooms, fresh tomato and salad plus deliciously curry spiced burger sauce, the burger came with potato wedges. But I expected more vegetarian food because of the name...the menu had one short page with vegetarian options - the other dishes were with meat. They have soups, salads, main dishes with meat, burgers, desserts and drinks.

Fresh and fabulous food. Friendly staff. Nice environment. Bonus for their compostable takeaway bags and boxes.

Rustic demolition look, food was good and reasonably quick and tasty. English spoken and English menu all food lived up to the picture presented in menu.

Host. Mediterranean Asian Mix is a delightful culinary gem nestled away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, offering an inviting atmosphere complemented by smooth jazz music. With a cozy setup that accommodates around 25-30 guests, this restaurant specializes in a unique blend of Mediterranean and Asian cuisines, featuring dishes like Turkish pizza and Greek salad. The decor is funky yet charming, making it perfect for family dinners or intimate gatherings.
Food not perfect but very good European option in pitsanulok

Decent little place tucked away from the road near downtown. Maybe 25-30 covers from what I saw. I've been a chef for 20 years in the States. I voted the service a 2 stars because the server gave us both the wrong drink and forgot a side order as well. We never got napkins or salt and pepper, etc. She looked new and nervous, and everyone's had a bad night in this industry before. Nice atmosphere, good jazz music playing, and a good wine selection. The cocktail list was OK. The food was cooked well, you can tell the chef has talent. I thought the food was a but underseasoned but to each their own. Overall, the menu was quite nice, and I will be back again and hopefully give this place a 5-star review next time.

Awesome food, highly recommended but it comes at a cost. Serving staff very friendly and helpful. Also there is a 3% charge for using a credit card which is not good for such a fine dining restaurant
Kevin G — Google review
We had a great dinner here as a family. It has really funky decor, great fusion food and nice owners. Quite a small room but cosy. Highly recommend! There is also a Thai restaurant called thairana and a very classy bar down the road a bit, all owned by the same owner.

Lovely place for a charming diner. Cooking proposal is reminding good western meals bug also some thai foods.

A nice western restaurant for meat lover located in Phitsanulok city central. Meats are Pork, beef, lamp, chicken, salmon. The food decoration is really nice as well as the taste. There are only a few tables available, so please call to make reservation before you visit.
