Nestled in the charming town of Molyvos on the northern coast of Lesvos, Molyvos Castle stands as a remarkable testament to history and architecture. This Byzantine fortress, dating back to the 11th century, was constructed atop an even older stronghold from the Archaic era. As one of the largest and most significant castles on the island, it showcases Venetian craftsmanship with later Ottoman enhancements that shaped its current form.
What a great location! We went there just before closing and the views were simply, breathtaking. Worth every step it took to get there. Just beware of the heat and heatstroke because the location is at the top of a hill and exposed to the Grecian sun. Pay special attention to the marble remains of the past, they seem filled with history and storytelling.

It is possible to get there from the town of Molivos by a pleasant but steep and tiring walk through the back streets or by car. The view of the Aegean Sea from the castle is excellent. Enjoy the view by having a drink at the cafe next to the castle. There is a fee to enter the castle. However, there is nothing to see inside the castle that is worth the fee. My personal opinion is that it is not worth it.
It gets very hot during the day so go up early in the morning. Or go at night, you can't go inside but you can walk around and have dinner next door. It's lit up at night beautifully. The view is great here and historically it's an interesting place.
Very enjoyable walk around, doesn't take too long, beautiful views of Molyvos & the island, plenty of beaches in nice shady areas when hot, a few step but nothing too bad in general. Not open Tuesdays.
The ruins of the castle are nice to look at and the views from up there are great, but you don't actually need to go into the castle to see some lovely views. It's now €5 to enter, and there's really nothing to see that you can't see from the outside.

Beautiful town built into the hillside...didn't get to see the sunset 🌇 but will hopefully be back one day...upmarket shops and restaurants, harbour restaurants come recommended
Generally a pile of rocks, not much inside but maybe I'm just an ignorant. The receptionist is a kind man. The cat guards the premises.

The Ottoman Baths of Mithymna is a remarkable and historically significant attraction that has been lovingly restored. The baths are an important part of the area and are highly recommended to visit. The guides, Rob and Carol, are knowledgeable and passionate about the baths. Entry is free, but donations for upkeep are appreciated. It is a hidden gem tucked between other buildings, but easily accessible by asking nearby sellers for directions. Inside, it offers a cool respite from the outside heat.
What a fantastic, historical place to visit. The baths have been loving restored and are very important to the area. Rob and Carol were our guides, very informative and passionate about the baths. It's free to enter, but a donation for the upkeep, is most welcome. They are a "must see" historical attraction and glad that we visited. Thanks to Rob and Carol for all their hard work.

The Ottomam baths are renovated and preserved very well. When you are at Molyvos, you should visit the hamam.We are impressed by the historical information and illustrations in the museum. You will get precise info on how Ottomans use the hamams , its structure and how they hot , cold and rest rooms are built.
An unplanned visit for us, a must visit for all when in the area. Extremely interesting building and the history explained expertly by Robin and Carol. This place relies on public donation to survive, so as the saying goes ' If you don't use it, you lose it'

A really interesting historic site which is worth visiting. The acoustics under the dome are amazing. I particularly liked the roof. The museum is run by volunteers who are very friendly and knowledgeable. The location sign is fairly small but it's just a few steps above the upper shopping street.

A beautiful building, excellent restoration and a wonderful couple of British volunteers, Robin and Carol will explain you everything.
Ps: This is the right location. Just turn to the small stairs from the main street.

Located in Molyvos, Greece, Molyvos Restaurant is a popular establishment known for its exceptional octopus dishes. However, it doesn't disappoint when it comes to calamari and shrimp either. Many regulars visit the restaurant solely to indulge in these delectable seafood offerings. The fried zucchini and salads are also highly recommended and often become addictive after just one taste.

This was the best restaurant experience I had this year (I’ve been to more than 4 different countries this year). Everything, especially seafood tasted really good. The view is amazing. You should try the peach juice.

It was truly an incredible experience! The mixed grill plate was the best I’ve ever had, perfectly cooked and seasoned meat with an amazing variety and perfect amount of tzatziki and salad. The service was warm and efficient, making the meal even more enjoyable. To top it all off, the breathtaking view made the whole evening unforgettable.
It was my second time at Molivos Stars after 9 years and i can say that nothing has changed a bit! The food is still delicious, the view is still breath-taking and the whole experience really worths it! We ordered shrimp souvlaki & greek salad and calamari, everything was just perfect. I will be coming back for sure again.
A Lovely Spot with a Fantastic View
Molyvos Stars is tucked away in a charming little street up in the town, and it’s such a cozy, family-run place. A couple of sweet elderly ladies walk around taking orders, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. From the terrace there’s a stunning view over the sea—absolutely beautiful.
At one point, one of the ladies poured me a draft Mythos, and it turned into all foam—which just added to the fun and good vibes. The whole place has a wonderful atmosphere, and you can clearly sense that many locals are regulars here.
The food was fantastic, everything was spot-on. Definitely a place worth recommending!

Hamam Restaurant - Café is widely regarded as one of the top tavernas in Molyvos, and possibly even the entire Lesvos Island. The ambiance of the interior transports you to a different era, creating an immediate sense of relaxation. The breathtaking view and stunning sunset add to the overall charm of this establishment. Both the female owner and waitress are incredibly friendly and capable of assisting English-speaking guests. It is undoubtedly a must-visit destination on Lesvos Island, highly recommended by many.
Very friendly staff, wonderful sunset view on the balcony, and the hamam salad was sooo good! The live traditional music on Friday night was a special touch.

Probably one of the finest tavernas in Molyvos if not in whole Lesvos Island. I think the interior takes you to a different but a better period of time and you feel already relaxed even before your first shot of uzo just by looking at the fantastic view or the georgeous sunset if you are lucky enough to be there at the golden hour like we did. The female owner and the waitress were both very friendly and understand enough of English to help you as best as they can. One of the must see places in the whole of Lesvos Island. Strongly recommended.

Byzantino, a cafe at the summit of the Castle in Molyvos, Greece, offers reasonable prices and serves as both a cafe and concert venue. The stunning view from this location makes it worth the climb, with a backdrop that enhances any experience. While the castle interior closes early, visitors can roam around the exterior courtyard until evening. Byzantino itself provides a pleasant atmosphere with live music and is an ideal place for enjoying drinks at night.
We had peinirli with mocarella and fried egg and I must say it was really good. Great breakfast. And they served it with thier local cheese that is only made here in Lesvos. Coffee was really good as well. And servece was nice and fast too.

Amazing breakfast with very generous portions. The special French toast with bananas and different chocolate dips was excellent! The Americano was decent. Definitely a place worth visiting for breakfast with a beautiful view. The price we paid for four people was very reasonable, especially considering the large portions.

The menu of the restaurant is not very rich but still everything we had was simply delicious. Staff was also kind and friendly.

The best view ever! The view of the sunset and thw beautiful town of Molivos under your feet. There was live music (lucky for us) also. We just had coffee so I can't comment on food.
While you can only go for the sunset, it also fascinated with its meals. flat bread was delightful. Although it was a starter, it even left risotto with three mushrooms behind, which was also delicious. Also, the staffs are very polite and caring. By the way, a gentleman from one of the staffs, whose name I do not know, suggested my dish.
I ordered an orange juice. According to the menu it cost €3,70 but when wanted to pay it cost €4,50. Paying 0.80 cents extra or even more is no problem for me as long as it is fair.

This is an authentic Greek tavern that caters to locals rather than tourists, as indicated by its Greek name. The prices range from 5 to 12 euros for dishes that may not impress visually but taste incredibly delicious and unlike anything else. I highly recommend this tavern for its exceptional flavors.
Away from the touristic port and touristic restaurants of the main road, we found this great place. The food was very tasty and clearly felt like home food. The service fast, pleasant and with a friendly personnel. Some tables close to the big windows have great views. Recommended!

This place is definitely one of our favourites in lovely Molyvos. It is a cozy and local restaurant with delicious dishes. There are not so many tables inside, so making reservation is recommended. Staff is very kind and friendly.
One of the most authentic places we have eaten at, the view makes you feel like you're experiencing the true colours of Greece, the music combined with the good food and view will make you leave this place happier than before and you'll want to return. The place is run by the nicest old man that gives you happiness from the way he acts and the way he loves working here.
I definitely recommend for dinner. I think it's a family business. The food is delicious and the view is magnificent. A place where local people come often. Prices are affordable.

This is not a tacky place geared toward tourists, even the name is only in greek.
With no doubt, this is a unique place. This is a typical Greek family tavern where the waiter is the owner and the cook is probably the owners wife.
The dishes cost from 5 to 12 euros, at first glance they do not knock the appearance, but they taste insanely.
Everything tastes like nowhere else.
I recommend this tavern like no other.
Food can be ordered from 18:30, earlier you can only have a drink.

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Congas Beach Bar, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Meltemi Ristorante Pizzeria. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

The beach bar is an amazing place to visit. They have an amazing atmosphere and it feels like you are in Hawaii. The food is ok, it is good enough to eat and taste good. The service is nice but take a long time to get your order. So to be honest I will recommend this place to go and swim and have a drink only.

Being here at sunset is such a nice experience.
The sea is clean and beautiful, and it’s not too deep. At the beginning it’s rocky, but then it turns into sand. If you find it hard to walk on the rocks, bringing water shoes really helps.
There isn’t a proper changing area; you can change in the restroom, but the conditions aren’t the best.
A beautiful bar right on the beach in Molyvos. The vibe in here is lovely, great music playing and the service is attentive. However, the cocktails are outstanding... This place is always crowded and plays very loud music, so if you enjoy energetic and busy environments, you might really like it. But if you’re like me and prefer peace and quiet, it might give you a bit of a headache. Just a heads-up: there are no sunbeds or umbrellas available.
Cocktails are nice but little bit pricy I guess. They should reconsider price policy and people can drink more and enjoy the night. Around 12 Euro per cocktail I don't know could have been cheaper. Or you should offer something like 20 Euro for three cocktail kind of deals.

We contacted them via Instagram a few days ago to make a reservation, so we had the best table. We tried mushroom pizza and seafood spaghetti. We loved both. It's not exactly Neapolitan pizza, but I'm sure you'll love it. Greek coffees are a bit ordinary compared to Turkish coffees 😎 If we come to Molyvos again, we'll definitely come back. We went for a pizza at Meltemi Ristorante Pizzeria. We ordered a green salad and two pizzas — one pepperoni and one Greek. The service was efficient, the surroundings were pleasant, and the toilets were clean.
However, we were very disappointed with the pizzas. The toppings were bland and tasteless, and most surprisingly, the dough was dry, impossible to cut, and tasted like cardboard. It was honestly the worst pizza we’ve ever had. The chef should consider taking a trip to Naples to learn how to make a proper pizza.
We raised our concerns when paying the bill, but unfortunately, the chef’s son responded aggressively. The purpose of making pizza should be to satisfy your customers — not just yourself. If you fail to do that, success is unlikely.
Because of this experience, we probably won’t return. If you're looking for a good pizza, it may be best to look elsewhere.

Drawn by the glowing 5-star reviews and buzz about the pizza, we visited this restaurant and were blown away by the scenery—especially from the end tables, which alone make the trip worthwhile! Meltemi has a beautiful view over the Aegean. It has a lovely family friendly environment and is always accompanied by great traditional Greek music. My partner and I enjoyed the pasta dishes and kind service of the staff!

We went to Nisi Restaurant on our first night in Molyvos. There are two restaurants side by side, and Nisi is one of them. In my opinion, it's one of the best in Molyvos. It changed ownership in recent years, and the chef who took over the kitchen is quite good.
We were served by a Danish friend. Although he was generally very sweet, she wasn't very familiar with the dishes.
We sat in the small square in front of the restaurant. The atmosphere was great. The food was good, but some dishes didn't quite meet the level I expected—especially the White Cheese and the Four Cheese Mushrooms.
I ordered Fava, Shrimp Saganaki, Baked White Cheese and Cheese Mushrooms, along with some Ouzo. We paid around 30 Euros in total.
Lovely place with a warm atmosphere. If you’re visiting, make sure to try the ‘Oneirologio’ local sausage with feta, honey, balsamic, and rosemary — a perfect balance of sweet and savory!
During our 11 days in Greece, we ate at Nisi three times, the only restaurant we returned to more than once! That already says a lot. The food is delicious and prepared quickly. The owners are incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home. A fantastic experience and absolutely worth recommending. We’ll definitely come back here again!

Everything we tried was absolutely delicious – the fish fillet, ravioli, and saganaki shrimps were all outstanding, and the meze and salads were excellent as well. The chef, who has many years of experience in Copenhagen, brought a special touch to the dishes and it truly showed.
On top of that, Dimitri might just be the sweetest person in the world – he warmly welcomed us, stopped by our table, and shared a long conversation with us about Istanbul. Misirlou has a totally unique menu, you won't find anything like it in Molyvos! Tapas, top tier steaks, fantastic fish, and a few traditional Greek plates as well, there is something here for everyone. Highlights include the fish and chips, chimichurri bites, and the BEST burgers we've had in Greece!
Also, we have been here so many times this summer the chef/owner remembered my food allergy, and when we came today and ordered, he came out to double check that I hadn't accidentally ordered a pasta dish that is made with cream and butter for myself, rather than for my partner, and to double check for modifications on my plate. We were so impressed with the attention to detail in the kitchen!

The Captain's Table, located in the harbor of Molyvos on Lesbos island, is a renowned restaurant owned by Melinda and her husband Theo. The Australian-born Melinda, along with her team, provides excellent service and prepares delicious food for the guests. The restaurant offers a beautiful atmosphere with cool breezes from its portside location. Guests highly recommend the fried calamari and La Mer pasta dishes, as well as the grilled kalamari and sardines.
Found us a table even though we didn't have a reservation after only arriving in Molyvos this afternoon. The service was excellent, both knowledgeable and friendly. We had nine meze dishes for the 3 of us which was just right, 500ml of house white, an ice tea and large bottle of water all for €55. The setting by the harbour with the sun going down was beautiful and the food matched it. The roast potatoes, local saganaki, grilled sardines and meat balls where particularly good.

The only Greek Meze style (small plates to share) restaurant in Molyvos. Right on the harbor, romantic lighting, fast and friendly service. The grilled king prawns are absolutely out of this world.

This is the most charming and beautiful restaurant we’ve visited in Lesvos! Over the years, we’ve been to many Greek restaurants across Greece and Turkey, and this place served some of the best mezze and seafood we’ve ever had. The calamari was especially amazing. The portion sizes for the mezze were quite generous, and the atmosphere is so warm and inviting. It’s a lovely family-owned business, and you feel that warmth as soon as you walk in. Definitely a must-visit if you’re on the island. Highly recommended!
We had shrimp and calamari right by the sea, with a beautiful view. Everything was fresh and full of flavor, and the wine paired perfectly with the food. The service was super friendly and made us feel at home. Such a perfect evening we will definitely come back!
A truly special meze restaurant, run with passion by young people who love what they do. Here you’ll taste some of the best meze on the island: homemade meatballs that feel like they came from your mother’s kitchen, authentic flavors in every dish, and a sweet ending with their galaktoboureko made with a unique pastry that brings back the taste of Greece.
The location is lovely, the atmosphere warm and welcoming, always filled with smiles. Here you’ll meet Kimonas and Afroditi siblings who pour their heart into their food. And you can feel it: every plate is made with love, just like them.
Because in the end, it’s the people who make a table worth sitting at. And this is one table you truly shouldn’t miss!

We had dinner here today, and it was absolutely fantastic! They have the best pitas we’ve had so far on Lesbos, the service was exceptionally wonderful, and the price-quality ratio is amazing. Highly recommended!

The Octopus Restaurant is a traditional stone taverna located at the north end of Molyvos harbour. It's known for its focus on octopus, caught daily by one of the waiters' brothers and grilled fresh. The ambiance is lovely, especially at sunset, offering beautiful views including the castle. The staff are friendly and helpful in recommending dishes.
An absolutely fantastic restaurant right by the port in Molyvos. The location is unbeatable, with beautiful views and that authentic seaside charm. The food was incredibly fresh and delicious, clearly made with love and local ingredients. We especially loved the sight of octopus hanging to dry — such a unique and traditional touch! It’s a family-run place with super friendly staff who made us feel right at home. A must-visit if you’re in the area!

We had octopus, shrimp, salted mackerel, and tzatziki — everything was fresh and full of flavor. The atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxing. A lovely place to enjoy a good meal. Definitely recommended!
The atmosphere is nice, you're right on the harbor, and the place is always crowded, but we didn't get the amazing flavors we expected; it felt a bit overrated. We didn't like the octopus in wine sauce, the grilled sea bream was tasteless, the calamari was average, and the stuffed vine leaves and salted bonito were good.
clearly overrated place. water and bread are brought without ordering, then it turns out that you have to pay for it. the price of bread is indicated only on the last page of the menu and in greek. when you order a grilled octopus the waiter asks if you know how to eat it and even after receiving a positive answer, still shows. then you understand why - the octopus is gummy. the portions are small, the prices are high for such food and service. as a result, if you sit on the edge, a boat will pull up and poor people will be dropped on your heads. Don’t recommend
Overall, it was okay. The octopus was very good, though I found it a bit too salty and unusually intense — I personally prefer a more delicate seafood flavor, but perhaps it just wasn’t the right dish for me. The Neapolitan spaghetti was disappointing; the pasta was overcooked and there wasn’t enough sauce for the portion size. I expected a bit more. That said, the service was excellent and the views were absolutely stunning.

We have been to Alexandroupoli, Athens, Kavala and lesvos. Among many restaurants we had dinner mainly for seafood, octopus is the best place for sure. Grilled octopus was again perfect, fried squid was delicious, mussels, prawn, salad all were very tasty. Good service, very kind and polite manager. Cosy atmosphere with a very nice view. You eat your dinner by a small fishing harbor in molyvos. Molivos castle has a very nice view of ligthed in the evenings.

With over 13 years of experience, the owners have mastered the art of preparing fresh fish and seafood to perfection, ensuring each dish is seasoned just right without being overcooked. The menu features delightful offerings like their fabulous green fava puree with capers and wonderfully roasted beets drizzled with garlic sauce.
The restaurant has a romantic atmosphere by the seaside. The shrimp saganaki, crispy calamari, and everything were perfect. You must try the fried zucchini and the spicy feta meze; they are my favorite

This restaurant is absolutely incredible. We stumbled in here on our first night in Molyvos and we are so glad we did! We have since returned and will likely done again before we leave.
The service is outstanding, Antonio has looked after us both evenings and is so helpful in recommending food. You do not feel rushed but never feel as if you are waiting too long. We were greeted both evenings with Ouzo (on the house) and received additional food/drink both times we have dined here.
The food is sensational, some of the best seafood and meat we've ever eaten. We tried Salted Melana (an absolute must!), lamb, beef and shrimp. All cooked perfectly with great portion sizes and delicious.
Thank you for making our evenings so special! We cannot wait to return. Do not hesitate, drop in and eat the best food you will likely have for a very very long time.
The grilled octopus and grilled shrimp we ordered were quite delicious. They also conquered our hearts by offering ice cream to our children and dessert to us at the end of the meal. Thank you for everything. I definitely recommend it.
Molyvis is very touristic place although this restaurant ia UNBELIEVABLE authentic and has extremely tasty food.

Roula’s Restaurant is an absolute treasure for seafood enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates outstanding hospitality! The food is really good, I mostly enjoyed the mussels (had them every night) and the view of the port gives an authentic vibe.
The owner is super nice and also the staff.

DO NOT MISS eating at this fantastic restaurant during your visit to Molyvos! You will be welcomed by Roula and made to feel like family. The food is outstanding and I had the best sardines of my visit here (caught that afternoon!). Everything was delicious- we ate here several times and always had a wonderful dining experience!
The Mistral is a not to be missed restaurant in Molyvos. Situated on the harbour, with stunning views of the town and castle. The owners are very friendly and the food is first rate with good portions. 10/10. Highly recommended!
