Shopping mall
Shopping
İzmir Optimum AVM is the largest shopping mall in Izmir and the Aegean Region, offering a modern and stylish experience for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Boasting over 180 stores featuring both international and local brands, it's a favorite destination for fashion enthusiasts and families. The mall also includes amenities such as a cinema, food court, and a playground for kids.
Izmir Optimum AVM is a spacious and well-designed shopping mall offering a wide range of cafes and popular retail brands. The architecture and lighting are impressive, with a high, dome-shaped ceiling that adds to the open feel. The mall provides several family-friendly features, including clean restrooms, a central food court, and various children’s play areas — one of which is a smaller indoor zone that requires renovation. There is also another indoor area with a trampoline and a couple of small rides, along with an outdoor playground. The only drawback is the relatively high temperature in the corridors between shops. Overall, it’s a well-rounded destination for shopping and family entertainment in İzmir.
Mohammad D — Google review
Big shopping mall, lot of shops, stores and restaurants on third floor. Optimum is close to Izmir Expo and close to the Airport. To the city is connected with metro (train) line straight to Al Sancak. Optimum AVM mall in Izmir is of the biggest shopping malls in Turkey. Only 5 wi-fi hotspots open for public, out of them zero is available for foreigners or tourists, beacuse it requires to put your phone number so you can get sms verification code. Free parking garage, paid street parking, free street parking and valet services are available.
Ognjen M — Google review
Best place in Izmir to spend time without people wich try to sell you somethings(like bazar) very clean nice brands(Tommy, Guess,Bershka) with affordable prices and also tax free
Laurentiu S — Google review
Honestly, it was amazing. There are not many luxury brand here. But there are all brands that you can meet in Turkey. And playground is great! You have to prepare extra clothes for kids when you visit in summer. We bought one in the shop as we din’t bring it. Anyway the mall is huge and well maintained!
Mothusi — Google review
Great shopping experience. You also have the option to do some ice skating. (Now replaced by play area) You have a selection of many name brand stores. Well situated in Gaziemir with easy access to freeway.
HaSan A — Google review
Very clean, wonderful safe children's out door play area making a great family shopping option. This mall was well laid out, the natural light from the beautiful roof was wonderful. This mall was very clean and inviting, a good choice of fast food restaurants and good choice of stores. Well done. I am a tough critic, I looked for faults but happy to not have spotted any. 🙂
Maryjayne A — Google review
This is a great place to visit. I went back to the optimum again before my evening flight. They have baggage storage lockers for baggage if you don't want to carry luggage with you. I went back to moda for a meal but on this occasion the service was not to the usual standard. Had a great day before my journey to the airport on the Izban/metro.
Meena M — Google review
This place is huge, very modern, it takes you a day to visit most of shops. Only disadvantages is that located out of city near to expo center and airport, so if you do not own a car you have to pay 50-70 liras to drop you from city center.

The İzmir Historical Elevator Building, also known as Tarihi Asansor or Historical Elevator Tower, is a charming historical tower located in the Karatas neighborhood of Izmir. Built in 1907 by Nesim Levi Bayraklioglu, it was designed to provide a practical solution for navigating the steep cliffs that separated the upper and lower parts of the hilly area of the city.
Surprisingly there was no queue at the entrance as there was some protests going on in the city. The view is so nice. If you are not going to sit at the cafe/restaurant 10 minutes is enough to take photos and see around.
Issilay — Google review
Lovely place! The view is something — for two lira, you can use the super cool binoculars, and the restaurant / bar seems to be owned by the government so prices are rather accessible. The little basket of fried things we ordered was not good, but having a cold beer under the hot Aegean sun overlooking tone water like that is not to be missed. We went down via the stairs and up via the Elevator — one can really understand why it was built 😅
Líriel — Google review
A View of Izmir You Can’t Miss! Asansör is one of Izmir’s most unique and charming landmarks. Built in 1907 to connect two neighborhoods separated by a steep hill, it was originally a practical solution for residents—but today it’s become a must-visit attraction. The restored elevator takes you up effortlessly, and within seconds you’re rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of Izmir, the coastline, and the Aegean Sea. At the top, there’s a lovely terrace where you can enjoy a coffee or meal while soaking in the scenery, especially magical at sunset when the city lights begin to sparkle. The surrounding neighborhood, Dario Moreno Street, adds even more charm with its colorful houses, quaint cafés, and lively yet cozy atmosphere. Asansör is more than just an elevator—it’s a blend of history, culture, and stunning vistas all in one spot. A perfect stop to experience Izmir’s beauty from above. 🌟 Travel Tip: Go in the late afternoon, stay for sunset, and then explore the nearby streets for a truly memorable evening.

More than a century history with the sponsor by a philanthropist. It has become a hotspot among tourists. The lift is free to use and it has a nice view from the stairs to the Aegean Sea. The cafe on top is a good place to sit and relax.

Clock Tower of İzmir

Historical place
Historical landmark
The Clock Tower of İzmir, built in 1901 to commemorate the 25th year of Sultan Abdulhamid II's reign, stands as a timeless symbol of the city. Located in Konak Square, it offers a beautiful setting by the sea with green areas and benches for visitors to relax and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. The tower's design by M.
Izmir Clock Tower is a beautiful historic landmark in the heart of Konak Square. Even in February, the atmosphere was lively, with pigeons fluttering around and locals enjoying the area. The tower itself is an elegant piece of Ottoman architecture, especially picturesque in the evening when it’s lit up. A quick but worthwhile stop to soak in the city’s charm!
Omz ( — Google review
It’s beautiful. It is the smallest clock tower in Balkan region I think. But it is elegant and well decorated! Totally different style. It is located in the middle of the square and at the entrance of Izmir bazaar.
Mothusi — Google review
This is one of my favourite spots in Izmir. The clock tower is very beautiful. The area around it has benches. Ground is also present nearby when you can sit and relax. The main market is also nearby alongwith the sea. Overall a superb place to relax, enjoy with beautiful view of the tower and the sea.
Alok A — Google review
While walking along the sea, I got this amazing place. Officially named as The Clock Tower of İzmir. It is one of the most famous landmarks in the city and a must-visit place for anyone coming to İzmir. It is located in Konak Square, right in the heart of the city, and surrounded by beautiful palm trees, pigeons, and a lively atmosphere. The tower looks amazing. Luckly when I got here, there was a concert running. I stood up there, while taking pics, I enjoyed the atomosphre as well. You can also take nice photos and meet friendly local people. It’s definitely one of my favorite places to visit!
Bassir E — Google review
Fine architecture. When you exit the bazaar to the sea you stumble upon this tower clock. Be aware that during noon it is very very hot, have a hat and sun glasses. Parking in the area is hard to find.
Cotorobai A — Google review
The clock tower was beautiful, and if you go during the sunset time onwards, you'd reward yourself with a great view. A nice place for a walk around the port with cafes and restaurants all around. As for the clock tower itself, simply "Timeless"
Sal E — Google review
One of the best places Izmir has. The clock tower is on the shore of Izmir and one of the oldest structures in the city.
Muhammad H — Google review
The Heartbeat of Izmir: The Clock Tower If there’s one place that captures the spirit of Izmir in a single glance, it’s the Izmir Clock Tower (Saat Kulesi). Standing proudly in Konak Square since 1901, this graceful Ottoman-style tower isn’t just a monument—it’s a gathering point, a backdrop for countless photos, and the true symbol of the city. The tower itself is relatively modest in height (about 25 meters), but its beauty lies in the details: elegant arches, intricate stonework, and the charm of four tiny fountains at its base. Built to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdulhamid II’s reign, the clock was a gift from the German Emperor Wilhelm II—making it not just a local landmark, but a little piece of international history. What makes visiting the Clock Tower special isn’t only the architecture, but the atmosphere around it. Konak Square is always alive with people—families feeding pigeons, students hanging out after classes, and travelers pausing to take photos with the iconic tower in the background. In the evenings, the tower glows warmly under the lights, adding a magical feel to the square. Another highlight is the location. From here, you can stroll down to the seaside promenade, explore the lively Kemeralti Bazaar, or grab a Turkish tea at one of the many cafés nearby. The tower is at the crossroads of Izmir’s old and new, making it a perfect first stop in the city. 🌟 Travel Tip: Visit just before sunset. The square comes alive, the tower looks stunning under the changing light, and you can continue your walk along the waterfront for a perfect Izmir evening.

Kemeraltı Bazaar is a historical district in Izmir, stretching from the ancient Agora to Konak Square. It's a lively area with local shops, eateries, workshops, mosques, and more. The bazaar offers traditional Turkish handicrafts, ceramics, carpets, leather products and more in its indoor and outdoor spaces. The bustling market is the heart of Izmir's shopping scene with modern business centers, shops, cinemas and cafeterias catering to all kinds of shoppers.
We visited Kemeraltı Bazaar on a Saturday — it was quite crowded but had a lively and authentic atmosphere. The bazaar is extensive and offers almost everything: clothing, accessories, fixtures, sweets, butchers, restaurants, and more. A great place to experience local culture and shop for a wide variety of items in İzmir.

This place is huge. One can find anything from printing service to suits and souvenirs. Of course there are a lot of restaurants and cafes. There is no need to visit every corner of it. Maybe just casually stroll and see where one is lead to.

Beautiful place, lots of stores to buy just about anything. Some are cheap and others expensive. Cool experience seeing the historical building and having a tasty Turkish coffee in the middle of the market. It’s closed on sundays. Free to walk around

Unique bazaar as there is no goods and shops for tourists. Most of famous bazaar in Turkey is full of shops for tourist with expensive price. But here, most of customers are Izmir people. I like this bazaar. Merchants are friendly and kind! Visit here and feel some authentic turkey bazaar vibe!

The best part of our trip was a visit to the bazaar. It is massive and full of interesting shops. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Be mindful of the middle men and prices can be high. Plenty of places to eat. Take time and make a day of it

Kemeralti bazaar is quite a busy place. You can find hundreds of things to buy from there as the prices are reasonably low. Make sure you have enough space in your suitcase before visiting the bazaar because there are too many souvenirs to buy. There are beautiful bags with Turkish embroidery patterns and praying beads and countless teas and coffees. There are numerous cafes to have a quick bite but they are all super busy. This bazaar is a must visit place.

Nestled in the heart of Izmir, Kızlarağası Inn is a stunning example of Ottoman architecture that dates back to 1745. Designed by the esteemed planner Hacı Beşir Ağa, this historic inn stands out as one of the largest and most magnificent inns in the region. Its unique architectural features make it a rare gem among Ottoman inns.
If you want an authentic local experience, make a stop here , have Turkish coffee, that is probably best in the area . Then go for a stroll in the bazaar

Very nice place, ground floor there are many shops there and in the centre court there is a lovely cafe with nice sitting area full of good vibes, upstairs you can find many workshops, you can enter them, see how the do handcrafts and buy directly if you want. The best place there is the cafe located upstairs which you can set there enjoy the view to hisar cami and the central court. Don't forget to bring your coins with you because you can't pay there by your bank card. The tea there is so cheap too.

Elgani Ezmecizade is a renowned bakery and dessert shop located in Izmir, Turkey. The pastry chef at this establishment is famous for his expertise in creating unique desserts, with the pistachio roll being a standout item. The shop is particularly known for its exceptional almond and pistachio pastes, which are perfectly balanced in sweetness and make for an ideal accompaniment to morning coffee.
I bought their walnut ezmesi and I have to admit it is pretty delicious. I bought 3 small parts for 150 tl, a bit pricy but nice to try. They have different tastes: walnut, almond, and pistachio

Heard about this place through social media and wanted to bring some back home. Made a mistake and ordered a mix box without tasting first. That tiny box cost me 40€. No special taste. Doesn’t worth the money. I’m not saying it’s terrible but price taste performance isn’t good. Probably too popular and therefore super elevated price. Need to be careful with social media marketing.

Tasted all 3 different types of sweets and the 2 types of chocolates (which you have to ask) that was kept away from view. Pistachio, almond and walnut. Almond marzipan is the best of the three. The dark chocolate with marzipan filling and milk chocolate with pistachios filling are both excellent. 1 kg in the luggage to go home with us. 😋

Erhan Usta and his paste desserts are legendary. Very well balanced sugar in pistachio and almond pastes. (Except Wallnut pastes) He has a small atelier at the back of his shop. All desserts are handmade and daily. A must visit culinary spot in Izmir.

Restaurant
Ayşa Boşnak Börekçisi ve Ev Yemekleri is a charming eatery located in the heart of Izmir, offering a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The restaurant stands out among the fine dining establishments in the area with its rich buffet featuring Bosnian and Ottoman flavors. Situated in a side alley of Kemeraltı bazaar, Ayşa Boşnak offers indoor and outdoor seating options.
Located in a side alley of the keneralti bazaar, the Aysa bosnak is an interesting experience. The seating is simple, but pleasant in the buzzing atmosphere. The service is typically Turkish: very friendly and very chaotic ;). There is an anti-pasti-buffet, each plate is paid for by weight. I enjoyed this part a lot. The main dishes were pre-prepared and were heated with a microwave. While unorthodox, I don’t mind it. However: As tasty as my gulash (?) was, I would have preferred if it was fully heated. I still rate 5 stars, because i have rarely seen such a good value for my money.
Maximilian H — Google review
Very nice place, you can take your own food and the scale is zeroed to cancel out the plate. The food tastes great and not too expensive (700tl/kg if you're strategic you can get a good amount of food). The atmosphere in the store is great, and there's an air conditioned room upstairs.

Cozy little spot with a fun twist—you get to pick your own fish from the tanks and enjoy it fresh. It’s all self-service, and you pay after finishing, which makes it super relaxed. The local dishes are tasty and full of flavor, perfect for anyone who loves authentic seafood. A unique and memorable place to eat!
Alex K — Google review
We went to Ayşa for dinner and it was a great experience! There are plenty of options and you can choose exactly what and how much you want. Since the dishes are served in small portions, everything stays fresh. Even though it was quite crowded, it took us less than 10 minutes to prepare our plates and sit at the table. The flavors are inspired by the Aegean region and every dish was delicious. Prices are very fair for the quality and service you get. The staff were all friendly, and the place was perfectly clean. Definitely recommended

I have eaten here many times and the food has always been superb. The family of the owners came from northern Montenegro decades ago but have held on to some of the recipes they brought with them. Many of the dishes they serve are vegetable based, so vegans and vegetarians might be happy. All of the dishes I've seen were beautifully presented and all I've tasted were utterly delicious. I think anyone would be satisfied. The clean stone walls of the restaurant give it a really warm and rustic feel.

Great place to eat. Owner speaks English and explains what the dishes are. Most dishes are by weight buffet style others are per dish, mostly hot dishes and soups. I can't recommend this place any more highly. Tasty and affordable and healthy. Plenty of vegan options.

I come from China, and don’t know Turkish. The owner patiently introduce each kind of food for us. DIY Meze is awesome, which helped us try all kinds of delicious pieces. börek is also interesting with cheese and vegetables inside. The price is quite fair.

Red Dragon Chinese Restaurant has been serving for years without compromising its flavor, ranking among the top 10 Chinese restaurants in Turkey. The venue, located in Alsancak, Karşıyaka, and Bodrum, offers a wide menu ranging from sushi to Chinese dumplings.
The service was amazing. Very fast and the waiter super friendly and very polite. The flavors are on point. I am vegetarian and it’s nice to have some fresh options.

It was okay. Personally I didn’t have big expectations, living in Turkey for about 9 months I wasn’t able to eat good Chinese food. I ordered sweet and sour chicken, vegetable dish and a beef in black bean sauce + soda and a cold tea, and of course the bill was too pricy for what it was… Sweet and sour chicken was probably the best out of these three, but at times a little too stringy. Beef in black bean sauce, I asked to remove the chilly peppers, and it ended up being a little blunt. I definitely couldn’t taste the black bean sauce, it was mostly garlicky and salty with a little bit of sweetness. The vegetable dish with a tofu and mushrooms - nothing special. I probably wouldn’t come back, but if you’re in a need of trying something new or breaking your typical food routines - worth it! 😊 The staff was very kind!

Tasty food and ample quantity. If you are looking for authentic Chinese food in Izmir than try this restaurant. Only concern was the sales tax was not included in bill and asked separately.

Been staying in Izmir a week and wished I found this place sooner, they have real meat that doesn’t taste processed or leave you feeling ill after. Been two days in a row and would recommend. Lovely service too and decent prices.

Seriously I had the most disgusting sushi In my life in this restaurant. It’s salty and taste disgusting .we are Asian so we know what is real sushi. The fried ice cream is also really bad. Too sweat and too much oil. I suggest to cancel this dish and just give client a real ice cream. Other chinese food . The cabbage is taste weird and all in small portion. Noodles are better. Anyway I will never eat here anymore.

I ordered the chef speciality dish 'chicken in hot sauce' and some beef rice. The rice didn't have much beef in it and it turned into one of the most nerve wracking meals I've ever had. My first mouth full was full of bones and one that I would have choked to death on (see pic) and then I almost broke my tooth on a piece of grit. Yes, grit as in stone. I gave up trying to get the meat off the skin and bone. It seemed like the chef's speciality is to try and do as much damage as possible! I told my waiter all of this and he came back with a 150 Turkish lira discount. Laughable. Also I had 1 tissue to deal with everything during the meal and then at the end I got a plateful!! Turkey is weird.

This restaurant is located in a weird Street. Once you enter in the ambience is really nice. Sushi was not that great. However the chicken dish I tried was very delicious and a little spicy. Service was very nice. It is a little pricey, but a unique experience.

Shopping mall
Shopping
Forum Bornova is a vibrant open-air shopping center in Izmir, offering a mix of local and international retail shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. With 128 shops featuring well-known brands, as well as a diverse food court and family-friendly amenities, the mall has transformed the city's lifestyle. Additionally, it is part of a larger hybrid project that includes residential units, a spa, gym facilities, and numerous dining establishments.
A great spot for a leisurely stroll and shopping is this charming shopping village. It features a diverse selection of high-end brands, offering original products, albeit at slightly higher prices. While the dining options primarily cater to midday cravings with fast food, coffee, and tea, the convenience of ample parking spaces makes it an ideal midweek destination. During our visit, we managed to snag some discounted clothing items, including popular brands like Nike, Adidas, Calvin Klein, Zara, Mavi, and more, as seen in the photos. Additionally, there are dedicated areas for kids to enjoy, along with a sizable market to explore.

Extremely pleasant and beautiful. It offers everything you need and even don't need. This open-style AVM perfectly fits to Izmir's weather/climate. Highly adviced to visit it, more than once.

This is generally a good shopping mall with a really good selection of shops. From two electronic shops, lots of clothing shops, food restaurants and a cinema, you should be able to find what you need here. Lots of parking and even a great IKEA and 5M Migros with in the shopping complex. Good metro link but terrible bus link, no buses to the mall at all, requires a 10 to 15 minute walk to the nearest bus stop. Toilets also not the best but that's a minor complaint. Generally very good mall.
Jake B — Google review
A large, open and inviting shopping center that gives a calm and harmonious feeling through its structure and arrangement. There are plenty of cozy places to sit and rest or take a break or choose a cafe and drink something good. Very nice and quiet place. Highly recommends.

Nice shopping center with many stores but you need good weather to shop outdoors. Lots of coffee shops and of course IKEA. The shopping is mostly outdoors but you can grab some food indoors as well. There are plenty of parking but getting in/out could be difficult due to crowds during holidays.

Park
Kordon Alsancak Izmir is a picturesque waterfront walkway that stretches from Alsancak to Konak, offering stunning views of the sea and plenty of opportunities for relaxation. The area is lined with cafes, museums, and galleries, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. Visitors can enjoy sitting on the grassy areas along the path or even find stone seats to dangle their feet over the edge. It's an ideal place for people-watching and sunset viewing.
Kordon in Alsancak is beautifully maintained and ideal for a scenic seaside walk. The area is clean, with plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view. It’s also conveniently located near cafés, restaurants, and other services. We truly enjoyed our time there — a peaceful and refreshing part of İzmir.

Alexander Calder’s sculpture on İzmir’s First Kordon is a striking addition to the city’s waterfront, blending dynamic movement with monumental presence. True to Calder’s signature style, the piece features a bold, abstract form with delicate, suspended elements that sway with the wind, creating a mesmerizing interplay of balance and motion. Its organic curves and sharp angles echo both natural and mechanical influences, standing as a testament to Calder’s mastery of kinetic art. Positioned against the backdrop of the Aegean Sea, the sculpture transforms with the shifting light and breeze, making it not just a static monument but a living part of the landscape. This installation enriches İzmir’s cultural fabric, offering both locals and visitors a contemplative and ever-changing visual experience.

Here is the first place i visited during my first visit in İzmir city. This beach in İzmir is a true gem! The crystal-clear turquoise water, soft golden sand, and stunning views make it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy nature. The beach is well-maintained. There is an amazing place to walk along the beach and enjoy the fantastic view. The surrounding area offers a great selection of cafes and restaurants serving delicious local dishes and refreshing drinks. Parking is convenient, and the access to the beach is well-marked and easy to navigate. I saw many people had come to fish. It’s an ideal place for families, couples, and even solo travelers looking for a serene escape. Highly recommend visiting during weekdays to avoid crowds and fully enjoy the tranquility. Agora of Smyrna

Historical place
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Agora of Smyrna, situated in the heart of Izmir, is an important archaeological site dating back to the Roman period. Originally constructed by the Greeks in the 4th century BC, it was later reconstructed by Emperor Marcus Aurelius after being ruined by an earthquake. The agora features remaining courtyards, gates, porticoes, streets and temples that offer a glimpse into ancient public life.
So this is very interesting place in so many ways. But let’s start with some basics - Agora of Smyrna is an ancient Roman agora, originally buit by Greeks in the 4th century and then rebuilt by Marcus Aurelius after it was destroyed by huge earthquake in year 178. Afterwards it was also used as a graveyard, also in Ottoman times (there are beautiful stones from muslim graves). As the excavation started in 1933 many interesting parts were discovered. Graffiti on the basilica wall is believed to be the world's first crossword. So far so good. Now, the tickets are priced pretty cheap for a wonder as this, but you can see that Izmir is not really paying much of attention to it’s amazing heritage. While this picturesque place is all open-air and you can run around it, it does not get the attention and care it should. Stones are just randomly tossed, no proper explanation and description is given (some small pieces of information are just posted on the boards) and if you wish to sit down and enjoy this marvelous view while drinking a coffee - forget it. The lack of advertising it is almost shocking - put it in any European city and they would literally display it as a must see attraction. It is also crazy close to Kemeraltı bazaar (apparently one of the biggest ooen-air shopping centers in the workd!) - it makes it a fantastic stop before immersing yourself in some shopping ❤️ So said, fully recommend this place - no matter if you live in or visit Izmir, what is left of Agora of Smyrna is breath-taking and worth your time. I hope in the future Izmir city will pay more attention to this wonder, clean it up, add some info and make a tiny place to sit with a tea/coffee and enjoy this small gem.

These are ruins of Roman city of Smyrna. It is converted into an open air museum now. The tickets can be purchased on the spot. The ruins are present at two levels. There are no artefacts. It will take around 30-45 mins to visit this place. Do visit this place if you are interested in Roman history.

🏛️ Agora of Smyrna — Where Ancient İzmir Still Breathes Visiting the Agora of Smyrna felt like stepping through a time portal into the heart of ancient İzmir. Right in the middle of the modern city stands this remarkable archaeological site — a calm, open-air museum surrounded by busy streets and apartment buildings. As I walked through the Roman arches, marble columns, and vaulted basements, I could almost imagine the bustling market life that once filled this space nearly two thousand years ago. The highlight for me was exploring the underground galleries and cisterns — beautifully preserved and surprisingly quiet, even though the site sits near the city center. You can clearly see how advanced Roman engineering was, with its water channels, arches, and inscriptions carved into stone. There’s also a small open-air section with scattered statues, ancient stones, and explanatory boards that make it easy to visualize what the agora once looked like. What makes the experience even more special is how modern İzmir wraps around this ancient heart — it’s living proof of how history and daily life coexist here. Standing in the middle of the ruins, with the hum of traffic in the distance, I felt connected to centuries of human stories that unfolded in the same space. 📜 History & Importance The Agora of Smyrna dates back to the 4th century BCE, originally built by the Greeks and later reconstructed by the Romans after a major earthquake in 178 CE — under the rule of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. It served as the administrative and commercial center of ancient Smyrna (the old name of İzmir). Excavations have revealed columns, sculptures, inscriptions, and the remains of a basilica, giving historians precious insight into Roman urban planning and daily life. It’s considered one of the best-preserved agoras in the ancient world, alongside Ephesus and Pergamon. 📍 Location & Accessibility Address: Namazgah Mah., Tarık Sarı Blv., Konak, İzmir, Turkey Just a 10-minute walk from Kemeralti Bazaar or Konak Square. Easily reachable by tram, metro, or taxi (nearest stop: Çankaya). Finding entrance may be tricky sometimes- ask people for help if needed. I had to walk entire periphery to find the gate as most of the people do not understand English in Izmir. The other side of the road is less populated, may not be suitable for non Tukish people. ⏰ Best Time to Visit Morning (9 AM – 11 AM): Pleasant light for photos and fewer crowds. Late Afternoon (4 PM – 6 PM): Soft sunlight makes the marble glow beautifully. Avoid visiting at midday in summer — limited shade and it can get quite hot. 💰 Entry Fee They accept only TL in cash or credit / debit card. Fee for non Turkish people is 6E (290 TL in 2025). and 100 TL for Turkish nationals. For children less than 6 years , entry is free, Carry their I cards. I am not sure if that is applicable to non Turkish nationals. ⚠️ Tips & Precautions Wear comfortable shoes — the ground is uneven and rocky. Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat if visiting in summer. Allocate 1–1.5 hours to explore fully and read the info boards. Some parts are under excavation and closed off — stay within marked areas. I wish there should have been Audio guide. I request tourism government to arrange audio guide at this place also. Washrooms are available inside. 🚫 Things to Avoid Avoid climbing on ruins or touching inscriptions — preservation is key. Don’t expect cafes or facilities inside; grab refreshments before you enter. Avoid rushing — take time to soak in the silence and historical depth. ⭐ My Verdict Rating: 9/10 The Agora of Smyrna is a must-visit for history lovers, photographers, and anyone who enjoys connecting with ancient civilizations. It’s smaller than Ephesus but far more intimate — you can explore at your own pace without crowds. A peaceful reminder that İzmir isn’t just a seaside city, but one of the most historically layered places in the world.

The park houses various attractions including the Ataturk Open-Air Theatre, Ismet Inonu Art Centre, a zoo, an amusement park, and a History and Art Museum.

Kültürpark is a beautiful green oasis in the heart of Izmir, offering a peaceful escape from the city's hustle and bustle. The park is spacious, with plenty of walking paths, shaded areas, and seating, making it perfect for a relaxing stroll or a family outing. There are also nice ponds, playgrounds, and cultural venues, which add to its charm. However, it's clear that the park could use more maintenance. Some areas feel a bit neglected, and a little more care would truly bring out its full potential. Despite that, it’s still a lovely place to spend a few hours and connect with nature. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

Kordon Yengeç Restaurant in Izmir is a perfect spot for groups who enjoy communal dining. The restaurant's trendy and urban interior features a blend of blue and grey tones, with chairs on one side and couches on the other, creating a stylish atmosphere. Known as one of the best fish restaurants in Izmir, it offers a unique dining experience with its chic design and pleasant ambiance, complemented by views of the Kordon.
Had a wonderful dinner at Kordon Yengeç. The grilled seabass 🐟was excellent, juicy, tasty & fresh 😋. Plenty option of cold salad. Cold mackerel was recommended. Good services with nice ambience. Though we're seating oudoor, it was covered & sheltered with warm dining area. Overall it's a recommended place to eat in Kordon area at Izmir.

In general the food was nice: fresh and tasty. The disappointment however stays when you leave the restaurant with a feeling of being ripped off. If you pay 500 + 550 (over 20€) for a couple of fried rings of calamari and a few octopus served together on a small plate than you really don’t want to come back there again.

This place is a TOURIST TRAP- Their menu does not have prices for fish entrees or Mezze's. They will ask you to order by looking at these items kept on display in a glass display room. We ended up paying £50 just for some Mezze and a fish. Luckily, that's the only thing I ordered. None of them were worth it. Don't be fooled by the positive reviews!! You don't eat fish here, You are the fish for their dinner!!
Andreea M — Google review
Only good thing about this place is that my fish fillet was perfectly grilled. Other than that, this place is a total tourist trap. Everything else we tried was mediocre. They offer no menus, and when I insisted, they brought one without any prices next to each platter! Waiter insisted that we ordered standing in front of window refrigerators where appetizers were standing without any description (or price, of course), and without anyone being able to explain in basic English (just a few english words here and there). Very expensive for Turkish standards, even for a fish restaurant. I noticed a Completely different approach when it came to local (turkish) customers, which makes me believe pricing was different too.

Tavacı Recep Usta in Alsancak, Izmir is a popular spot for those who love traditional Turkish cuisine. The restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere where guests can enjoy a variety of dishes including succulent lamb, beef specialties, and skewered meats. With its rich menu and central location, Tavacı Recep Usta is an ideal choice for a satisfying meal with friends or family.
This restaurant is worth a detour to Izmir. The food here is fantastic and an experience on every bite. This is the chance to eat at a Michelin rated restaurant at an "affordable price" in comparison to US/Europe prices. This is a busy restaurant, so expect this to work a bit like a factory... Great food, but quite expensive! They bring you a bunch of complimentary starters and dessert - we liked the spread but it may not be to everyone’s liking. If you want to experience a truly traditional Turkish breakfast, this is the place to go. We have tried it twice and each time have been exceptionally pleased. The service is great, the food is terrific and very reasonably priced.

Buke Garni is an innovative eatery that offers a variety of fresh and delectable food options. With a unique blend of ingredients, this restaurant showcases its creativity through its dishes. Situated in a beautiful garden setting, the ambiance adds to the dining experience. Renowned for its high-quality cuisine, Buke Garni consistently delivers exceptional meals without any disappointments. The menu features creative and fresh culinary creations straight from the kitchen.
Ate there tonight with a friend. It had a lovely atmosphere for quiet chat. It's not an intimate place, but just nice for talking and had a relaxed vibe. The service was polite, and unobtrusive. I would prefer it if the drinks came quicker, but it isn't that sort of place. The chap serving was helpful, spoke English and offered food suggestions when asked. We ordered and had some very nice olives and break whilst waiting. We waited a while, but this is not a fast food restaurant. The food was very good, the chef can cook and I would have licked the plate if it was a bit more quiet. I didn't see who cooked but I got the feeling that they enjoy it. They're sharing something with the customers in a way. Go there if you want a nice relaxed "chatty" atmosphere and great food. Don't go there if you want a raucous night out. It isn't cheap but I left full (of quality food) and there's a lot of me. I'd love to see what they can do on a special occasion.

First time in Izmir - went based on family recommendations! Ordered the shrimp 🍤 gnocchi and anticipated a very good meal, but it turned out a bit disappointing 😕! Portion was small, very few shrimp and it was average nothing out of the blue? I wouldn't order it again for the price as it appeared the most expensive item on the menu. However, had I known about the fish burger 🍔 that my husband ordered, I would have been very satisfied. I must admit it was pretty awesome 👍! Great flavors, wonderful sauce pepper sauce and the meat very juicy and tender. In fact, we ordered another one for my son. If we were to go there again, it would be for the fish burger only! I'd say it was a pleasant experience, but nothing out of the ordinary. Host hospital and chef very nice and kind.

Ordered probably the most expensive thing on the menu so one would assume they'd take care of preparing it, the food looked phenomenal.. But.. dead cold inside, was very surprised and the compensation was just burning it and returning it reassembled. Very unpleasant experience. Come here for the snacks, stay away from the main courses.

Buke Garni is good. The food is of high quality. The dishes are creative and everything is fresh out of the kitchen. Location is central, the old stone house with sweet garden provides a nice ambience. Edit: Decreasing quality since first visit.

Shopping
MaviBahçe is a vibrant and modern shopping center located in Izmir, offering a diverse range of experiences for visitors. The mall features an array of local and international brand stores, including fashion outlets, electronics shops, and beauty stores. Additionally, MaviBahçe boasts a food court with casual eateries as well as fine dining restaurants catering to various culinary preferences. Visitors can also enjoy entertainment at the IMAX cinema within the complex.
I think this is one of the better shopping malls in Izmir, it definitely has a huge selection of shops and products to choose from. Very much a great shopping experience. Everything is very clean from the halls to the toilets. Easy to navigate around and everything is well kept. I like the views you can get from the top floor too. Food hall is a little small but generally not that bad of a place to go. I especially like the malls positive attitude towards cats.

MaviBahce is quite nice shopping mall with almost every kind of needs… MaviBahce mall is older than Hilltown and it is beautiful to visit at… Mall’s building has multi levels and a plenty parking area in the basement with so many entry and road signs, it is simple for visitors to find whatever they need both inside and outside. There are several restaurants and eateries where you can relax and speak, which makes here also a great area to meet up with friends… MaviBahce has a central courtyard which is actually a huge garden and there landscape pools with koi and goldfishes which makes the mall unique and the fine restaurants are surrounded around these pools… You can find various luxurious brands of contemporary apparel, optics, and cosmetics… All the shop assistants are friendly and helpful too… It has a Macrocenter as well… The mall is huge, and it is splendid to look at… I certainly would recommend this shopping mall/centre to everyone…

Karşıyaka / İzmir - So, let me tell you about this cool spot in Karşıyaka, İzmir – the Mavibahçe Mall. It’s this super modern shopping center that’s got a really chill vibe for both shopping and eating. The design is all about letting in natural light and keeping things open, which makes it feel super comfy. There are tons of shops and restaurants, so you’ll find something for every taste. Plus, it’s right on the Aegean coast, which means you get some amazing sea views while you’re there. It’s a hit with both locals and tourists because it’s just so nice and has great amenities. Just a heads up, though – if you don’t speak Turkish, you might have a bit of a tough time chatting with the shopkeepers or ordering food in the food court, like most places in Izmir. But getting there is a breeze! You can hop on the T1 streetcar from Karşıyaka İskelesi, and once you get off, just take the escalator and cross the bridge, and boom – you’re right at the mall!
Reza M — Google review
It is difficult to navigate and to find specific shops. There are no maps anywhere near escalators. There are only these useless touch screens that barely work even when you punch them. And even then, it displays a blank plan without shops' names overlaid. Main positive is car park with limiter rails so you don't bump other cars. And the park in the middle is nice too.
Krzysztof J — Google review
Beautiful open air mall. Great restaurants and cafes. Takes care of beautiful cats in the mall using expensive cat food. Cats are playful, happy with their shiny coat. The koi fish pond is an added bonus. Spent lovely time.
VeenaMa O — Google review
One of the best. Not as a shopping mall but as a masterpiece serving as a combination of shopping and nature views and landscape design.
Nesa M — Google review
I loved this mall and I walked all around and I wasn't tired. This mall very big with beautiful garden in the middle. It have many different choices of brands, very good cafes, and popular restaurants that you need to try. The garden is big and you can walk inside it and in the middle they have stage for night life music.
Mansour M — Google review
One of the famous malls of İzmir. It has a lot of shops inside. In the middle of the mall there is a green area that let you to take a fresh breath. I am not sure but I think it is a bit expensive compares to other malls. It is easily accessible. You can simply take tram and get off at the M.K. Atatürk Spor Salonu station. During weekends it can be overcrowded, especially in the afternoon.

Shopping mall
Konak Pier is a historic seaside building located in Izmir, originally designed by Gustave Eiffel. It has been repurposed into an upscale shopping, dining, and cinema complex. The pier houses boutique shops, high-end restaurants with white linen tablecloths, and a movie theater. Visitors can also find English books at the bookstore and enjoy pleasant outdoor seating at cafes like Starbucks while watching the seagulls on the water.
This is a great place. Security check to get in, and then a hub of cafe culture, whilst also being an active ferry port. Very pretty place.
Owen-Rhys H — Google review
Cool concept and interesting that it was designed by Eiffel but it was a bit of a let down since it was not air conditioned in the main mall hallway so stifling hot (100+F day) and the only access to the waterfront was through restaurants. Many shops are vacant but the clothing ones seemed very nice.
Mari S — Google review
I stepped here thinking that I will get a ticket for boat. However its something else. Visiting Konak Pier was one of those experiences that perfectly combined history, sea views, and modern comfort. I loved how this historic building — originally designed by Gustave Eiffel — has been transformed into a chic waterfront mall. As soon as I stepped in, the blend of iron arches, glass ceilings, and sea breeze gave it a unique charm. You don’t feel like you’re in a typical shopping mall — it feels more like a stylish coastal arcade. I spent 20 min here browsing the small but elegant mix of shops, grabbing a latte at one of the cafés overlooking the Aegean. There are multiple cosmetic shops, many restaurants, and movie theatre. All movies were in Turkish, so I didnt plan to experience watching movie here. The restaurants here — especially those with outdoor terraces — serve good food variety with unbeatable views. Prices are slightly higher than in the city center, but the ambiance makes up for it. There is KFC also inside. At a corner you will find museum of illusion. It’s a perfect place to shop a little, eat slowly, and unwind by the sea.

Konak Pier is a shopping and dining center located in a historic building overlooking the ruins of the old port. The place has been beautifully transformed into a charming tourist destination that houses restaurants and commercial markets.
Tuhami M — Google review
We visited the pier to access a restaurant, so I'm not sure what to actually give the pier as a score. Mark, part of our party, has challenged my 5-star reviews, so I'm awarding 4-stars. Very good wc, and you can walk to the far end to look out over the sea. Lovely views. A useful flyover walkway takes you back over the main coastal road to town.
Patrick M — Google review
I loved the place and was amazed by its history and interior, I love the idea of that the stores inside kept the original design and its history as it is believed that the building was built by Gustave Eiffel. They have the best starbucks with the amazing view of the sea
Interiors A — Google review
Pier designed by Gustave Eiffel, now a large indoor mall with some nice open-air terraces. The space itself is well-designed. There are some nice restaurants within, as well as some fast good options like Burger King and KFC. However, many of the interior stores, and even some of the exterior stores are currently closed making for a pretty underwhelming experience to walk around in. Nonetheless, you can get magnificent views of the sunset from here!

İnciraltı Kent Ormanı is a hidden gem in Izmir, offering a serene and green escape by the seaside. It's perfect for walking, running, or cycling under the shade of trees with the sound of waves nearby. Locals call it 'heavenly garden' for its tranquil atmosphere. Accessible via tram/metro or ferry, this park boasts mature Eucalyptus and mulberry trees, with a quieter side near the red bridge.
Very nice park just meters away from busy city life. It can fulfill your different needs. You can go for a walking/running, have a nice picnic or just enjoy the nature. Sea is a bit cleaner than city center but sadly still not like what it used to be. At the entrance there is cafeteria. There are some sculptures in the park but they are not the best 🙃.

Nice place to walk! It would be perfect if metro station or tram stop was a bit closer, cuz now you have to walk a lot to the park. But views are really outstanding here

A huge park for all kinds of activities: walking, biking, rollerblading. On the Izmir aside of the park is a seashore, picnicking, and great views of the city, but the far side of the park is even prettier. İ enjoy walking around the Flamingo Lagoon, and the cafes of İnciraltı are a great place to end the day at the park.

Easily the best green open space within Izmir city centre. Easy to get to via tram/metro (f.altay) or ferry if from Bostanlı (Üçkuyular port). Nice smell as you enter the park due to the many mature Eucalyptus trees. Lots of mulberry trees as well. Ripe for picking at late spring. The side near the red bridge is quieter. Public restrooms available. Not sure about barbeques as there were signs probihiting it and signs saying it is okay

(Translated by Google) They deceive tourists. The menu had prices from 10 to 40 dollars, when we were choosing dishes, a Turk came up to us and started showing us fish on his phone that we should try. When we asked how much it cost, he took out a piece of paper and wrote the price at 800 lire. Throughout dinner he walked around us and smiled. It is worth noting that there were almost no people in this cafe (two Turks were sitting with beer). When the waiter brought the bill, we were, to put it mildly, stunned. On the menu, the fish cost 8,000 liras instead of 800. We asked him again, to which he replied that there was no mistake. We had to pay the bill... Стоит заметить, что людей в этом кафе почти не было (сидели два турка с пивом). Когда официант принёс счёт, мы мягко сказать офигели. В меню рыба стоила 8000 лир вместо 800. Good restaurant, very good location, some great food ( fried fish), but we were very disappointed when we ate sea bass and sea bream, because we did not expect that in a seafood restaurant, located in a fisherman's village, they had aquaculture fish and not caught fish, as it would be normal, especially if they sell them at very high price.

We went on the 24th July because of the good reviews and the only positive thing was the friendly Parking Man. We sat down and got asked if we prefer meat or fish while we didn’t even had a chance to look at the menu. As soon as we answered they told us we had to stand up and choose a fish ok then. They brought us to an area where they had whole raw fish and directed us to choose one. We were like what? We don’t know what any of those fish are? We asked what they’d recommend bc we didn’t understand that situation at all. So he recommended a fish and we had to sat down on our table. Then he pushed us to order a salad - still without a menu we didn’t even know what they had? I asked how is our fish going to be prepared now?? Like we got pushed in an uncomfortable situation where we had to choose something without even knowing what’s going to land on our plate. Then finally I got to look at the menu and saw there is fish on the menu even though the staff told me fish is only available if we buy a whole fish. I confronted him about it and got the statement „the fish on the menu is not a main course“ but it were literally meals for one person I felt betrayed and annoyed. He didn’t say anything about „hey guys we offer fish from the menu or you can come with me and choose a whole fish and it’s going to be served with XX“ NOTHING. He just pushed us to choose a fish. The salad came and it looked old, not fresh and awful. At this point we got so annoyed that we wanted to leave asap. We took the bloody fish to takeaway and left this awful mess. The fish did cost us 40€ and it was not worth it. It was just a grilled unseasoned fish with a little potato mash and uncooked spinach. Idk if they saw us and wanted to cash out some tourists or anything? Or they saw us and didn’t like us? But anyhow it was the worst restaurant experience I ever had I felt so manipulated and pushed to decisions where they would make the most money out of me. Awful place for introverts.
