Nature preserve
Yllästunturi Visitor Center Kellokas is a top nature center in Lapland, offering great service and free access to its museum and exhibition. Visitors can also find a local souvenir shop with quality products. The friendly staff provides helpful advice for trekking, biking, and other trips in the area. Additionally, the center offers free parking and limited information on local trails and routes. In winter, there are snowshoe routes available from the center.
Free parking and visitor centre with limited free info on local trails and routes. Maps are paid for (€10) but most shorter trails are well marked and signposted so not really necessary unless you’re doing a longer route. In winter there are snow shoe routes from here, but most were packed down enough to be fine in normal walking boots.

Great exhibition- you can spend 15min or 2h here - exciting also for kids (for a bit)
Sofia H — Google review
They used to have a cafe there which was nice for my in-laws while we went for a hike. Without, the complete experience is just not there. But I recommend going for the museum aspects too. Just be prepared to go away from there afterwards to get something to eat.

Café had fresh raspberry donuts with a unique raspberry filling, and the coffee was amazing! Other food and pastry options were available along with a lunch menu. The main visitors center is connected with a souvenir shop, telescope lookout on to the Lapland hills and tundra. Plenty of history, nature and local activities. Mountain bike rental is also located on site.

Probably the best nature center in Lapland. Great service, free museum, free exhibition. Local souvenir shop with nice products. If you are looking for advice for your trekking/biking or any trip, the friendly personnel will help you. If you are in the area, go have a look! It won't cost you anything, but you'll probably learn something new.
Gösta R — Google review
Large, well-stocked information center. Lots of maps and good advice from the staff. There is a spectacular museum exhibit on the bottom floor which is worth an hour of your time, at minimum. We took a ~2 hour round trip hike from here to a small Kota with a fireplace. For an even better experience, bring some sausages to grill.

Restaurant
Rohki Restaurant & Catering offers a unique setting for a delightful dinner experience. The menu features a blend of traditional and innovative dishes, all skillfully prepared with high-quality produce. While the wine list is concise, it is thoughtfully curated to complement the flavors of the dishes. Located in an area that may be a bit remote, planning transportation in advance is recommended.
We ate here twice and it was the best meals we had in Lapland! Wonderful cozy upscale restaurant run by a married couple. Husband is the chef and wife works the front, she is really pleasant and kind. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend!

We ate there yesterday and the food was exceptional. From the self baked bread to the reindeer fillet and the chocolate cake, everything sooo tasty. The atmosphere is great too, it's a cozy small family owner restaurant. People were very friendly. We will definitely be back 🥰

My wife and me (from Germany) were at Rohki at Jan. 09th, 2025. It was a great impression to eat in the Rohki Restaurant for dinner. It is a nice and small restaurant with an excellent kitchen. The women that served us was extremely nice and very friendly. She explained every course in detail. The food was excellent and worth every penny. This was an absolute kulinaric highlight in our 3 weeks travel through Finland and Norway.

Superb food! Awesome service! Delicious experience! Highly recommend to visit this small cozy bistro.

We were lucky to make a last-minute reservation in February. They were nice enough to rearrange tables for us so our group of 5 would still fit in. This is a new restaurant, and it has only a few tables. The food was really delicious and looked really lovely on a plate. We ate Lapland starters for two people to share and a main course of reindeer steak. We had a nice introduction to each of the meals. The restaurant is really cozy and managed at a high level. I highly recommend eating here.

Nestled in the center of Äkäslompolo, this little restaurant is an absolute delight. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with warmth and genuine friendliness that immediately makes you feel at home. The ambience is intimate and charming, with little tables elegantly decorated with thoughtful details that reflect the magic of the region. Soft lighting and rustic touches create a perfect setting for a memorable dining experience. The food is outstanding. Each dish is showcasing fresh, local ingredients and a deep passion for flavor, making every bite a testament to the chef’s skill and creativity. The service is incredibly friendly, with a staff eager to share stories about the area or offer recommendations. This restaurant is an a place where delicious food and warm hospitality come together to create something truly special. Highly recommended!

Kesängin Keidas, a popular ski cafe, offers a refreshing break for hikers seeking both short and longer respites. With an array of delectable pastries, particularly sweet treats like pancakes, it caters to varied tastes. The drink selection includes beer and other beverages for visitors to enjoy.
This is one of my favorite ski cafès. It's great for stopping in the middle of a ski trip and having a cup of hot chocolate and a doughnut. The atmosphere here is always warm and welcoming. It's not too far away, so kids will enjoy it too. Great place for anyone who loves skiing.

Good for short or longer brake while hiking. Pancakes, pastry mostly sweet stuff. Beer and other beverages. Toilets little bit smelly not so clean and located outside some walk away from main place. Restaurant-Cafe itself have lots of sitting space and very large outdoor terrace with absolutely stunning views.

Great stop on the trail with air conditioning and a place to get away from the bugs. Highly recommend using this place as a halfway point.
Jason B — Google review
Little short beer with fallen foam for 8€. But we may just have a different beer culture.
Ondřej B — Google review
A must-go cafe when skiing at Kesänkijärvi lake! The milk free doughnut was a great surprise - not the freshest, but 10 seconds in the microwave worked wonders. The service is not the friendliest, but does it's job.
Ilka H — Google review
Options are a little limited which isn't surprising given the location. Otherwise a very nice place with decent food. A good place to stop on your hike/bike ride.

Nice place, good food a bid pricy

Oasis between great hills. Take a brake and a cup of chocklad. Skinn or climb up to Kesänki or to Kellotapuli.
