Points of Interest & Landmarks
Ljubljana Castle, a medieval fortress towering over the townhouses below, offers a captivating journey through history and culture. Visitors can ascend to the castle via a glass cube and explore its first-rate museums, including the Virtual Castle showcasing its development, an exhibition on Slovene history with insights into socialist Yugoslavia and the Ten-Day War, and the Museum of Puppetry. The stocky Clock Tower provides unparalleled views of the old town and distant Kamniske Alps.
Go as easily as possible to skip the crowds. We bought tickets at the entrance and arrive at 9:30am to no queues or crowds. Great views of the city. The history is castle is available in multiple languages across the various rooms. Definitely a good place to visit.
Petra P — Google review
Great castle experience! The funicular ride up is convenient and fun. Lots to explore once you’re there, with something for everyone. The puppet museum was a fantastic surprise - definitely don’t miss it. Highly recommended! The view from the clock tower is amazing.
Giacomo B — Google review
I'm disappointed. It's not worth the 15 euros. The only thing you have to pay for is to climb the flag tower. All the exhibition halls contain mostly textual information that can be found on Wikipedia. So, essentially, you can come here for free, stroll around the castle square without a ticket, and enjoy the tour. The castle grounds are also beautiful. I recommend walking up the hill instead of taking the funicular. It's a good workout! And be prepared to pay for the restrooms, even if you have a ticket. Overall, it's worth a visit, but without buying a ticket.
Roman B — Google review
The history of a fortess on this site go back to the 11th century but the castle that stands here today was built under Frederick III of Habsburg as a stronghold against the Ottoman Empire. The beautiful decorated St George's Chapel dates from this time. It was extensively renovated over decades using lots of concrete as you can see all around. There is not much to be seen of the old csstle. Left and right were some interesting details like the old prison and the small armoury. When you climb the tower via the double red winding stairs you get a nice view over the city. Entry to the castle is easiest with the funicular which is included in the ticket price.
Seimen B — Google review
Easy to get to ...funicular is a 1 minute ride. Castle is now theater. galleries, museum, restaurant plus the castle itself with nice viewing tower. Area of improvement is the signage. As the signs were not clear I just couldn't find the puppet museum which was the main reason of my visit.
John C — Google review
Great views and atmosphere - but pricey if you’re going inside! Ljubljana Castle is definitely worth walking up to, even if you don’t buy the ticket. I didn’t go inside, but the views from the outside areas, the courtyard, and the paths around the hill are fantastic for photos, especially near sunset. The castle itself looks beautiful and well-preserved, and the walk up is quick and enjoyable. The only downside is the €15 ticket price (as of Nov 2025), which feels a bit high compared to similar castles. I’m guessing it’s partly because it includes the funicular and helps support ongoing renovations and events - but still, it’s a lot if you just want a short visit. Overall, a must-see spot for views and atmosphere, even without paying to enter.
Manu — Google review
The city's most important attraction. It's impressive. From the top of the castle tower, we can admire the city panorama. The ticket price includes entry to the tower and exhibition hall, as well as a ride down the funicular. I highly recommend it.
Waldemar K — Google review
Nice castle and grounds. The views from the tower are phenomenal! I highly recommend buying ticket online so you can get a 10% discount instead of buying at the castle. There's no timed entry so you can buy the tickets just before you go. We walked up hill, didn't use the funicular going up or down. I got the basic ticket that included the museum of puppetry, art exhibition, video mapping (immersion impressionist art), and the 3D movie about the castle. The only part I disliked that they charge to use the toilets, which was a bit much. You already pay for the ticket so why should you pay to use the restroom, just include the price in the ticket.

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
Dragon Bridge, also known as Zmajski Most, is a pedestrian-friendly art nouveau bridge in Ljubljana, built in 1900. It is famous for its series of dragon statues that guard either side of the bridge and smaller griffins adorning its lamp posts. The bridge spans the Ljublanica river and is a popular spot for tourists to take photos due to its remarkable dragon sculptures modeled after the city's coat of arms.
We loved visiting Ljubljana and seeing the Dragon Bridge. Such a wide variety of things to do and see. Highly recommend the City Hotel and we enjoyed dining at Most restaurant.
Steve F — Google review
Ljubljana's Dragon Bridge in Slovenia is an iconic representation of Art Nouveau architecture, drawing visitors from far and wide. The bridge's four imposing dragon statues, one at each corner, command attention. Strategically located in Ljubljana's historic center, the bridge crosses the Ljubljanica River, facilitating social exchange. Fascinating local myths surround the bridge and its dragons, such as the story that the dragons acknowledge a virgin's crossing with a subtle movement. The concrete bridge has earned the colloquial nickname 'mother-in-law' from some locals, who find the dragons' fiery demeanor both captivating and intimidating. The Dragon Bridge, a masterpiece designed by Slovenian Jurij Zaninovic, stands as a testament to the city's resilience. This stunning Art Nouveau bridge was dedicated to the 40th anniversary of Hapsburg Emperor Franz Josef's reign, with the dates 1848-1888 elegantly inscribed on its side. A symbol of hope and renewal, the bridge honors the emperor's contributions to the city's revitalization after the devastating 1895 earthquake. Conveniently located, the bridge is within walking distance of iconic landmarks like Ljubljana Cathedral, Ljubljana Castle, and the vibrant Ljubljana Central Market.
C K — Google review
The Dragon Bridge in Ljubljana is one of the city's most iconic landmarks, symbolizing Ljubljana's identity. It is located in Ljubljana's city center over the Ljubljanica River. The bridge is famous for its four large bronze dragon statues—two at each end—and sixteen smaller dragons decorating the bridge's span.
Kevin A — Google review
Definitely my favorite bridge in all of Europe, because I love dragons. And this was very close and walkable to my hotel and in the center of everything there is to do in town definitely worth a stop and it even is the site of a geocache.
Jeff C — Google review
Nothing too special on its own, but the dragon statues are iconic and symbolic to Ljubljana. Definitely worth a quick stop and a photo if you’re exploring the city.
J — Google review
Impressive dragons decorate this Art Nouveau bridge that was built between 1900 and 1901 and the first with a reinforced concrete structure in town. The story goes that the dragons are tied to the Greek myth of Jason and the Argonauts, who are said to have founded Ljubljana and slain a dragon nearby.
Seimen B — Google review
Beautiful large green dragon statues built in 1901. Locals say tshe dragons wag their tails when a virgin crosses the bridge (a fun old joke among residents).
Snippets — Google review
It's a bridge with Dragons on it. We counted at least 20. Good place for a photo. Some people may say its crowded but I'd say it has atmosphere with people stopping to take photographs or passing by as they head to the nearby cafes and restaurants.

Flea & Street Markets
The Central Market, also known as Plecniks Covered Market, is a lively marketplace in Ljubljana. It features both indoor and outdoor sections where vendors sell a variety of products including fruits, vegetables, meat, cheese, and hot prepared food.
Ljubljana's outdoor market, also known as the Central Market, is a vibrant and historic marketplace located in the heart of the city. It's a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Ljubljana, offering a wide variety of fresh produce, local specialties, and artisanal goods.
Playmo B — Google review
Little local market. Fresh local fruits and vegetables. Also, natural honey from real bees keepers.
Habib — Google review
It is biggest old market in old center of Ljubljana. It is also historical landmark, work of famous architect Jože Plečnik in years between 1931 and 1939. This place has long and rich history. Anyway, people meet here every day for buying vegetables, fruits, meat, fish and other food, for lunch and other public events. You can buy fresh vegetables and fruit from local farmers in Slovenia. What is special about this place is that it didn't change so much in all this time and it stays legendary as it always was. It is Slovenian culture monunent and still serves for everyday market. During the summer there is also opportunity for free dance events with course. If you are here today, you have luck because you see old legendary market. The mayor wants to renovate it and consequently some legendary things will be lost...

The main market square with a great food market, which is 4 stars, unfortunately many of the Chinese useless shops are also there to lure the tourists. The market place itself thou has a nice atmosphere.

The Central Market in Ljubljana is a must-visit for anyone interested in experiencing the local culture and cuisine. This vibrant market is located in the heart of the city, and it is open every day from morning to evening. The market is divided into two main areas: the covered market and the open-air market. The covered market is home to a variety of stalls selling fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, and other produce. The open-air market is a bit more eclectic, and you can find everything from souvenirs to flowers to street food here. One of the best things about the Central Market is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The vendors are always happy to chat with customers, and they are always willing to give recommendations. You can also find some great bargains at the market, especially if you are willing to haggle. In addition to fresh produce, the Central Market is also a great place to find traditional Slovenian food. There are several stalls selling sausages, cured meats, and other delicacies. You can also find freshly baked bread, pastries, and cakes. If you are looking for a unique and authentic experience in Ljubljana, then the Central Market is a must-visit. It is a great place to wander around, people-watch, and sample some of the local food. Here are some specific things that I liked about the Central Market: * The fresh produce was of excellent quality and very reasonably priced. * The vendors were friendly and helpful. * There was a wide variety of products to choose from, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, and souvenirs. * The market was clean and well-organized. * It was a great place to people-watch and experience the local culture. Overall, I had a very positive experience at the Central Market in Ljubljana. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

If you are in Teneriffe you have to visit this place. The variety of fruit, vegetables, fish. You can choose fish or sea food and they cook it right in front of you. The fruit and vegetables are amazing, some of them I have seen for the first time. It is great to experience local vibe. There is a parking garage right bellow the market. Price is ok. Would highly recommend. But do have in mind it closes at 1400.

Saint Nicholas's Cathedral, also known as Ljubljana Cathedral or the Church of St. Nicholas, is a Roman Catholic cathedral with a baroque interior featuring gilded columns and ceiling frescoes. The cathedral is an iconic part of Ljubljana's skyline and boasts an ornate bronze side door that depicts centuries of Slovenian and Ljubljana's Catholic history.
Lovely big cathedral in the heart of Ljubljana if you want to listen at mass you don’t have pay if not you must pay a small feee to enter. Highly advised to go to Sunday mass at 6pm is magical…. Photos are restricted

St. Nicholas’ Church in Ghent is really impressive! This old stone church stands tall in the city center, looking strong and beautiful. Inside, the high ceilings and big stained-glass windows are so pretty. The organ is huge and cool to see, even if it’s not playing. It’s free to enter, which is awesome, and it’s not too crowded. The history feels alive with all the old details around you. I loved the calm and peaceful vibe inside. It’s great for a quick visit to soak in some beauty and history. The location makes it easy to stop by while exploring Ghent. Definitely worth checking out!

Originally built as a Romanesque cathedral in the 13th century, St. Nicholas Cathedral was rebuilt after a major fire in its current Baroque style in the early 1700s.

This has to be one of the most beautiful cathedral in Slovenia? Beautiful paintings and the interior is superb! I was recommended by a stranger to visit and we did , entrance fee is €3 per person and definitely worth it

Unfortunately, we couldn't get ilas it was closed for tourists on that exact day, so I couldn't compare to other to other cathedrals. The outside architecture isn't that impressive (in my opinion), but there were some interesting ornaments and details.

Triple Bridge

Bridge
The Triple Bridge, also known as Tromostovje, is a 19th-century bridge with two adjacent 20th-century footbridges that span the Ljubljanica River in Ljubljana. Originally built to replace a medieval wooden bridge, it now connects the old city with the modern area.
The famous Triple Bridge is surrounded by all these buildings, restaurants and shops by the river. What a beautiful place to spend a good afternoon there. So relaxing for the tourists.
Kwokman N — Google review
One of the most unique and iconic architectural landmarks in Ljubljana, the bridge consists of three adjacent bridges set side by side. The central stone bridge was built in 1842, replacing an earlier wooden structure and originally intended for vehicular traffic. In 1932, architect Jože Plečnik added two side bridges for pedestrians. Today, all three bridges are pedestrian-only, forming a graceful connection between Prešeren Square and the Old Town. With classical stone railings, elegant street lamps, and Plečnik’s distinctive decorative touches, the bridge is a harmonious blend of function and beauty. It is stunning by day, but becomes even more magical at night, when the lights of the city reflect on the Ljubljanica river below.
Seokjin H — Google review
Iconic spot in Ljubljana! The Three Bridges, redesigned by Jože Plečnik, perfectly link the old town with the modern side. A must see and great for photos

Important: there are free toilets under this bridge that we came back to throughout the day!! Other than the toilets, very beautiful and cozy city. Enjoyed strolling around the old center and its many streets and hidden treasures!

Really cool bridge, as odd as it is saying that. But looking in every direction, everything is so beautiful. If you want a nice pic with it, stand on a nearby bridge instead!!

Interesting architecture solution. The triple bridge is really a unique sightseeing point in Ljubljana. It is leading to very nice and spacious square which is a pulsing vein of the city. And the river is giving a Venice touch to this capital. This is definitely a must see in Ljubljana along with other sites.

Prešeren Square is a bustling pedestrian hub and popular meeting place in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It holds historical significance as it was once the meeting point for several roads and an old entrance gate to the city. Named after Slovenia's national poet France Prešeren, the square features a large statue of him and hosts concerts and events during the summer.
Beautiful main square of the city centre. Truly enjoyed the bridges and the wonderful art installation of rain. Bustling with people but a lovely atmosphere. Try to get yourself a free walking tour to explain further the importance of the square and the history behind it.

1 | Prešernov trg is the central square of Ljubljana, named after the Slovenian national poet France Prešeren, whose statue stands at its center. Surrounded by important landmarks like the Franciscan Church and Triple Bridge, the square is a key meeting point and pedestrian hub in the city. 2 | A unique attraction in the square is "The Area with Ljubljana's Own Weather." It’s a spot in the middle of the round square where it’s always raining, and there’s even a traffic sign warning you about it. There aren’t many trees or shade in the square, so it gets really hot in the summer. The city addressed this by installing a water mist system. One of the artists then placed a traffic sign next to the wet pavement featuring an umbrella and a cloud. 3 | The square also features the Statue of France Prešeren, a Slovenian poet who stirred quite a bit of controversy in the first half of the 19th century. The statue itself has also been controversial, as it includes a depiction of a bare female chest. This is visible from the church in the square, which didn’t sit well with church officials. 4 | The square is definitely worth a visit — if you’re staying in Ljubljana for a few days, you’ll likely pass through it more than once. On summer evenings, you’ll often see street performers there, and the most popular one is the guy with the giant soap bubbles.
Petr N — Google review
Plaza Prešeren is the vibrant heart of Ljubljana, always buzzing with life. Surrounded by elegant architecture, lively cafés, and the iconic pink Franciscan Church, it’s a perfect spot to soak up the city’s charm. Street performers, locals, and travelers mingle here, making it both a meeting point and a cultural hub. From the square, you can easily wander into the old town or cross the Triple Bridge. A must-visit for its energy, beauty, and central role in Ljubljana’s daily rhythm.
Dani B — Google review
Prešeren Square is the lively heart of Ljubljana, where history, architecture, and local life meet. Surrounded by landmarks like the pink Franciscan Church, the statue of France Prešeren, and Plečnik’s Triple Bridge, it’s the perfect place to start exploring. Just a short walk away is the iconic Dragon Bridge, guarded by Ljubljana’s famous green dragons. During summer, every Friday, the center comes alive with Odprta kuhna (Open Kitchen) — a vibrant open-air food market offering dishes from all over the world. In the mornings, you’ll also find fresh local fruits and vegetables for sale at the nearby central market, making it a great stop for food lovers and casual wanderers alike.

I had such an amazing experience here! Apart from the food, the staff gave us such a warm and kind welcome. Particularly, Ula was very friendly and helpful. Recommended me her favorite wine which I tried and enjoyed myself. Overall, would highly recommended and I will definitely come back! My favorite was the elderberry dessert!

We had a delicious and enjoyable 4 course dinner. 49€ per person for this quality was amazing. The standouts were the beef and cuttlefish dishes. The only miss for us was the seabass and strawberries (we found the pickled fish a bit bland). Service was friendly, helpful, and professional. The suggested wine pairing were well matched too.

Very good meal, even with a slight mix up in the kitchen. The service made it wonderful. The building is also stunning. Extensive Slovenian wine list. We came for lunch it has 2, 3, or 4 course options with a selection of dishes across each section. If you come for dinner it is a similar flow, but with up to 6 courses.

We had the four course meal while on a short visit to Ljubljana. And that’s what I’d like to recommend anyone doing when visiting this lovely town! It was such a treat to be served these dishes, they were innovative without too much bullshit - it tastes just like it should. All the flavors were heightened and natural. Superb! If I ever come back to Ljubljana I will be sure to dine here again. Thank you.

We came here for a « treat ourselves » meal and it did not disappoint. The location was magical, the menu was innovative, the food was delicious and our server did a fantastic job at explaining each dish and wine pairing. We chose the 4 course tasting menu and it was perfect.

Excellent and worth repeating. A restaurant where price is not the main criterion, and I was especially happy, as I was the only vegan in the group — yet they took wonderful care of my meal, a true indulgence. Needless to say, the recommended wine pairing was superb. 6+ 🙏

Klobasarna is a popular fast-casual takeout shop located in the center of town, offering traditional Slovenian street food. The star of the menu is the Carniolan sausage, served with mustard and horseradish alongside freshly baked bread. This hearty pork sausage can be enjoyed as a quick snack or assembled into a DIY sandwich for those on the go.
1 | A family-run spot and a paradise for sausage lovers. I tried the sausage with mustard, horseradish, and bread, and it was really good. I expected it to be grilled, but it was boiled. Still, it was high quality and packed with meat. 2 | An interesting detail is that the place is owned by a family who ran a watchmaking business on the same site for several generations. You can read their whole story on the wall next to the counter while you wait. 3 | A smaller portion (half a sausage) costs 5.50 euros, and the larger one is 9.50 euros. It comes with a brioche roll they bake themselves. They also offer a stew for 6.50 euros and a stew with sausage for 8.50 euros, which I didn’t try. 4 | The staff is kind and friendly, and you can pay by card. 5 | There’s one table inside the bistro, and you can also sit outside in front of the place or stand at the counter.
Petr N — Google review
The most iconic sausage shop in Ljubljana Stopped by as soon as I arrived in Ljubljana. To dodge the crowds, I came just after opening and was one of only two groups eating there. The only downside of coming early was that every passing tour guide stopped in front of the shop to announce it as the most famous Klobasa spot in town, so there was no pretending this was a hidden gem. The food came out quickly, and there were plenty of outdoor tables to enjoy it (though they fill up completely by the afternoon). I ordered a half Klobasa, barley stew, and sweet rolls. It was a chilly morning, and dipping the sausage into the warm barley stew was pure comfort. The sweet rolls weren’t quite my thing (very chewy, almost like sticky rice) but the stew and Klobasa combo made the stop worth it.

We went to this place after having seen many YouTube videos where they recommended this place. The sausage was really tasty and was served with two pieces of buns, grainy mustard and horseradish dip. The Istrian soup was also nice (I'm guessing it was with sauerkraut). We also tried the štruklji and it was not bad but it's not my kind of food 😁.

Excellent food. Sausage and soup lovers you will love this place. You will eat for a very decent price. A must stop. The bread was warm and crispy!

It was my first time in Slovenia. The weather was rainy. Sometimes very rainy. But I wanted to see old town in Ljubljana and eat local food. I was glad when found Klobasarna on google map. Simple and tasty food from this place warmed me up. I ordered one more portion with great pleasure. Totally recommend.

This is a place for tourists where they have the opportunity to taste traditional food while standing, without having to stay in a restaurant for a long time, which I really appreciate. The food was authentic and of high quality, we had ricet and sausage and it was incredibly tasty on a rainy day. The prices are higher, even considering the self-service places, but at the same time it works out better than a restaurant. For tourists, I think it's a great opportunity to taste local food and not a trap. The mess here is what you would expect from a fast food place.

We visited late morning on a Tuesday and it was quiet. Ordered a half portion sausage and the Istrian stew. Good to have tried it given all the hype. One of the serving staff was helpful but not the other who came out to sit next to us and started smoking.

Excellent food. Friendly and helpful staff. The barely stew was vegetarian and so flavourful. The sausage very tasty. For fast food it was way better than the Golden Arches alternative.

What a delightful spot! The menu is simple yet perfectly satisfying, and you can savor breakfast all day long. The staff radiates kindness, and the prices are reasonable. I wholeheartedly recommend this gem—it’s an absolute joy! 🩷

I arrived shortly after 8 and ordered the Ljubljana breakfast with a cappuccino. It was fantastic. The atmosphere was great, watching people at the farmer's market. By 9, the place was very crowded and I felt a bit rushed to leave.

Despite the prime location and us thinking this would probably be a tourist trap, we were so happy here! The food was excellent and very moderately priced. The sandwich bread is just phenomenal, so are the cold cuts, cheeses and warm stews. Don't skip this place!

We had the beef minute steak sandwich and the bogranç stew. Absolutely delicious. The guy was friendly and willing to explain the dishes. Perfect place for lunch 😊

Kodila in Ljubljana is a must-visit for anyone who loves great food and authentic Slovenian flavours. The deli items from Prekmurje — the hams, cheeses, traditional stews, and especially the Prekmurska gibanica — are outstanding. The food is high quality and beautifully presented. Huge praise to Simon and the whole team: attentive, warm and always ready with excellent recommendations. Kodila delivers a perfect blend of tradition, taste and top-notch service.

Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant
Strelec Restaurant is a gem located within Ljubljana Castle, offering a unique dining experience in the round 'Archer's Tower' with stunning views of the city. The interior is adorned with hand-painted folkloric designs, creating an enchanting atmosphere. The contemporary Slovenian cuisine served here has garnered praise from local food bloggers and press. Operated by Chef Igor Jagodic, this Michelin Plate fine-dining establishment is known for its impressive setting and delicious dishes.
Food and service were phenomenal. Matej was a great server. We did 5 courses and a wine pairing. The flavor combos were top notch. Plus what’s better than having dinner in a castle? Highly recommend. They were even able to accommodate a dairy allergy in my party!!
Tori F — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dining Fit for a Castle Strelec isn’t just a restaurant—it’s an experience. Dining inside Ljubljana Castle, overlooking the city lights, already feels special, but then the food arrives and you realise you’re in for something unforgettable. Every course was a flavour adventure, full of surprises and little touches that kept us smiling from start to finish. It wasn’t just dinner, it was a journey—each plate more creative and delicious than the last. The setting? Magical. The food? Fabulous. The whole experience? An absolute privilege. If you’re in Ljubljana and want a night that combines history, atmosphere, and incredible cuisine, Strelec should be at the very top of your list.
Daniel W — Google review
Want to fine dine at the top of a castle steeped in history? Want to romanticise life—or heck, impress your date? Then you have to visit this place. It’s not every day you get to wine and dine like nobility in an actual castle. Sumptuous food, impeccable vibes, and stellar service (shoutout to Luka!). Totally worth every penny—bang for your buck, no doubt. I went for seven courses because I wanted to try an extra main and dessert… absolutely rolled out of there full to the brim. The name Strelec means “Archer” in Slovene—a nod to the restaurant’s location in a former turret tower, where archers once shot through the narrow windows that still surround the dining room. How cool is that? Tip: I came right after sunset 5pm in November. Plan accordingly to catch the beautiful alpenglow over the mountain range ahead.

We just finished a two week trip to Slovenia and Croatia. We dined in some amazing restaurants, but on our last night, we experienced the best. We both ordered the five course tasting menu, with wine pairing, and it was incredible from start to finish. Firstly, the setting inside the castle walls is very unique and special. Our server was welcoming, professional and engaging, and obviously passionate about food. Likewise, the sommelier was so lovely, knowledgeable and selected wines perfectly paired to our meal. Then there was the food...every bite delicious. Truly one of the best meals ever. What a perfect way to end such an incredible trip to Slovenia.
Kristi L — Google review
We had an amazing evening at restaurant Strelec! We started with the greetings from the chef in the outside area overlooking Ljubjana, and afterwards we continued in the nice dining area inside for the rest of the menu. The sommelier explained a lot about the wines, and gave us the opportunity to taste some extra wines as we’re very interested in wines. The wines are amazing and we loved how the sommelier made our night extra special. We really liked the food as well. It was a great experience thanks to the amazing staff. We would definitely come back!
Anouk B — Google review
Phenomenal from start to finish. We had the 7 course menu and were surprised by many more. The wine pairings were delicious and interesting. They were extremely creative in accommodating a dairy allergy as well. Our favorites were the beef tartare with shiso leaf, and a strawberry dessert. Reservations are a must.
Tim S — Google review
We had a really nice dinner at Strelec, which is located in one of the towers of Ljubljana Castle. The restaurant is a bit up the hill—taking the funicular is a good idea, especially on the way up, as the path is quite steep. Walking down afterwards is much more enjoyable. We combined our dinner with a visit to the castle and its museums, which worked out really well as a full afternoon and evening plan. In summer, you can sit outside with beautiful views over the castle grounds and the city. Inside, the round room has a special atmosphere too, with great views—some through historic arrow slits that remind you of the building’s medieval past. The staff were very friendly and attentive. With prior notice, they offered a pescatarian menu, which was much appreciated. Dinner started with a small bite from the kitchen, followed by a 7-course menu. Wine or non-alcoholic pairings are available—we chose the wine, and the local Slovenian selections were really well matched with the food. Everything was made from local ingredients, presented in a creative but not overcomplicated way. One of the highlights: the smoked butter with freshly baked sourdough bread—simple but unforgettable. It’s a great place, not just because of the location and views, but also thanks to the thoughtful food and warm service. Just make sure to book in advance—it can get busy, especially on weekends.

Five stars in every department! We had the 9 course tasting combined with the wine package. The food, wine and views over Ljubljana were exceptional. Our server Luka was super nice and knowledgeable and he, together with the rest of the super service minded staff, made our experience even better. Would highly recommend a visit!

BTC City Ljubljana is a massive shopping, entertainment, and business complex in Slovenia. It spans 475,000 square meters and houses over 450 shops and 70 food and beverage outlets. This multiplex of malls offers everything from household appliances to fashion, along with restaurants, bars, gyms, a cinema, bowling center, aquapark, and casino. It's considered one of the largest complexes in Europe.
You can buy pretty much anything you need in life at the BTC City. Think of it as a deconstructed mall. Every shop is a standalone building with its own mini parking. You got food stalls, entertainment, shopping for every type of customer segment and a good vibe.
Beno S — Google review
Great place for a quick stop or a full shopping day in Ljubljana – BTC City really has everything in one place: shops, restaurants, cafés, a cinema, sports stores, electronics, and more. It’s clean, well organized, and super convenient if you’re passing through. The nearby Radisson hotel makes it perfect for a short stay or an overnight break. Definitely worth a visit if you want to combine rest, shopping, and a good meal while traveling through Slovenia.

A large mall, free parking with planty of space. Many stores, with few international brands. It has a primark store and half-price. Overall, a very pleasant mall to shop in and spend time. You should know that there is no option for tax return.
Moshe B — Google review
Primark offers a diverse range of products, including: baby, children's, women's and men's clothing, accessories and footwear; beauty products; housewares and confectionery. The chain sells clothing at prices below those typically charged by other retailers. From 2014, Primark began selling makeup products.[77] Primark started selling vegan snacks from January 2018.[78] Along with retailers such as Zara and H&M, Primark contributes to the contemporary fast fashion trend. According to an article about Primark in The Economist, "For many shoppers, Primark has an irresistible offer: trendy clothes at astonishingly low prices. The result is a new and even faster kind of fast fashion, which encourages consumers to buy heaps of items, discard them after a few wears and then come back for another batch of new outfits."[79] In 2020, Primark launched their Wellness collection which includes 80 eco-conscious products.[80] All of the products are made of organic, sustainable or recycled materials. This is part of the retailer's commitment to be more responsible for its footprint.[81]

was absolutely blown away by the sheer size of BTC Ljubljana — it’s massive! Naturally, this also means it can be a bit tricky to find your way around at first. However, for anyone who loves shopping, it’s an absolute paradise. So many stores and options to explore — definitely worth a visit!
Ema D — Google review
A massive shopping and business park with everything you can imagine — from high-end brands to budget stores. You can’t even capture it in pictures, it’s just too big. It’s like a huge mall, but cleaner, more elegant, and beautifully designed. There are free restrooms and even free indoor playgrounds where you can safely leave your kids while you shop — honestly, an amazing service you rarely see in Germany. Food options are endless — from Asian cuisine to fast food and casual restaurants. In short, whatever your heart desires, you’ll find it here. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in Ljubljana and want to shop or just spend a relaxing day.
Andre B — Google review
It’s a huge shopping center. You’d probably need at least two days to see everything. In my opinion, it’s best to go with a specific plan. Check the products/listings before you go - most of them are available online on local websites, including prices.

The direction signs to the restroom are meaningless, they lead you in circles until you realize you have to go down to the floor below. It took 15 minutes to find it. Fix it, it's not difficult. Just fix it to improve the experience of thousands of people who are visiting your mall for the first time, instead of leaving a meaningless response to this review that will benefit no one.

The size and scale of this shopping area is enormous by Balkan standard, even the rest of Europe and Asia. I'm surprised such a small city like Ljubljana has so many large scale shopping malls. You can practically buy everything you need here. The supermarket is also huge and well stocked, with a very good hot food section. Ample free parking all around.

🛍️ Shopping Center Citypark – hard to even find I can’t say much about Citypark because it’s difficult to even find the right entrance. AKC Metelkova mesto is a vibrant urban hub that showcases Ljubljana's underground culture through its diverse range of artistic events, music performances, and theater shows. Originally a squat, it has evolved into a renowned center for independent artistic expression in Europe. The complex houses numerous clubs where locals gather to enjoy live concerts, DJ nights, LGBTQ events, and affordable drinks until the early hours of the morning.
Amazing graffiti space. If you want to see something really different from most sightseeing places, come here - surely during the day if you want to see the colourful graffiti all around the place. If you feel uncomfortable with the smell of weed and some strange stares at you, definitely don't come here in the evening :)

1 | A somewhat unusual spot that serves as a hub for alternative art. It’s free to visit, photogenic, and located just an 8-minute walk from Ljubljana’s main train station. 2 | On the flip side – the area is full of rather odd people, and some seemed like they might be under the influence of mysterious substances. A few of them stared at me in a strange way. Much of the “art” here consists of political slogans. 3 | I wouldn’t recommend visiting this squat after dark, especially for women or those less adventurous.
Petr N — Google review
Very cute art on the buildings but during the day you don’t quite know what to do there. There are no food trucks, concept stores or stands. There’s a couple of bars with sketchy looking zonked people staring into space, didn’t really feel inviting to walk in and have a glass. I went there once at 3 pm and once at 7 pm, both gave me the same impression. A little dilapidated and not too intuitive for the newcomers.
Alya B — Google review
Is a worth visiting place if you like an urban vibe with graffiti’s and art around. However , you MUST consider that the crowd around the place will make you feel extremely unsafe. I went during the day and stayed like five minutes as I had to almost run as a strange dude was following me for a long period of time.
Juan O — Google review
Cool location with a lot of alternative art and music. A bit more...orderly? than some of the similar places in Europe. Not quite as good as NL or Denmark but close and has a similar rule about photos of people. Police are stationed nearby in a car and lots of smoke about.

It's further away from the city center, with many interesting installations and weird/quirky people. Impressive graffiti.

I'm not really sure what to make of this place. Yes, there is a lot of pretty cool graffiti and sculptures but it felt uncomfortable and odd walking around here. When we were here there were groups of people who were obviously under the influence of substances and drink. Not sure it's somewhere to visit at night. I know this place used to be barracks and now it's an alternative and subculture space but I need someone to explain this area to me as I don't quite understand it. Didn't spend all that long here as it just felt odd and uncomfortable.

I wish there was a way to leave more than 5 stars. Absolutely perfect. The hostel is big and beautiful. They upgraded me for free, and the room was gorgeous. The bed was comfortable, and the constant reminder to save energy was great. The breakfast was perfect. It was an all you can eat, not something usual for hostels. They allowed me to chill there after checkout till my bus.

Had a great stay here! The rooms are small, but very comfortable. Importantly, the staff managed to keep the rooms cool, even in the hot summer weather (unlike the other hostel that we stayed in, in Ljubljana city centre) 😬 Hostel Celica was really clean. Great breakfast and location for Ljubljana Old Town. There were only 2 showers, but it was fine! Overall I would definitely recommend and stay again.

Nice hostel, with a unique style. The ambience was really nice and the breakfast very generous. I think we did not have too much luck with our room, others seem to be more concerned than ours (room 105). I think the only issue were the toilets/showers. I think they could be cleaner- most of the time men toilets were quite dirty

The rooms have all necessary basic amenities for the stay. The toilets were clean and the staff were really friendly. Also they take cards for the checkin payment

This hostel is comfortably close to the train station, and it's just a short walk down to central Ljubljana. I have a bad foot from before I went on vacation and they were happy to accommodate me to a room where I didn't have to climb up to get to my bed. It only goes to show how customer oriented they are. The breakfast is small but lacking a bit. Would be nice to have some juices or more hearty bread but that's nitpicking.

Joe Peña's Cantina y Bar is a Mexican restaurant located in a pedestrian zone, offering traditional dishes like taquitos, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, and fajitas with various meats. The menu also includes classic chili con carne, steaks, burgers, Caesar salad, and vegetarian options. The restaurant provides a pleasant atmosphere with friendly staff and quick service. It's recommended to make reservations due to its popularity.
Had a fantastic lunch here today. Looks a bit unassuming from outside as we thought was a coffee shop. Big menu of food and drinks. Burrito, fajitas, dips, chips, soups,.salads and some deconstructed Burrito style meals. Beef,.chicken, fish, turkey were all available Server was really friendly, food came quickly and was piping hot and very tasty. Portions are large. There was music playing, a busy bar area and a great vibe (thankfully no smoking). We both really enjoyed our meals and were so pleased we stumbled upon this place. Two meals, couple IPA beers and a cocktail was 51€ which was fine for quality and quantity of food. Definitely recommend.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Overall, the food was good, but nothing that really wowed me or stood out as exceptional. The nachos felt overpriced. The portions were big, and the service was quick and friendly. Overall, I was satisfied, but I guess I expected a bit more.

The food is tasty and just the right amount spicy. You can choose from a wide variety of mexican drinks and plates. The waiters are talkative and friendly, the location is superb, since it is pretty much in the center of Ljubljana. My only complaints are the higher drink prices and that the portions are a bit too small, at least in my (hungry) opinion.

Soba 102 is a trendy restaurant located in the heart of Ljubljana, offering a relaxed atmosphere and a diverse menu. The establishment is known for its delicious cheesecakes, including options for those following low-carb or sugar-free diets. In addition to their delectable desserts, Soba 102 serves up a variety of dishes such as Black Angus beef, BBQ ribs, chicken wings, and burgers.
Nice spot for lunch. Prices are reasonable and the portions are large. Aperol Spritz was delicious. In Slovenia, sometimes waiters can be unfriendly to Americans in my experience and my waiter was extremely nice and accommodating, making sure I had an English menu and had the WiFi.

Nice restauraunt in the Ljubljana city center. Ambient is quite trendy design, on the wall are featured photographs of Slovene music estrade mostly from golden years of chanson. Restaurant is big and from one part visitors can observe chefs preparing meals. Food is nicely decorated, small portions, fresh and good taste. Grilled saumon with vegetables and basil mayonaisse was rich in flavour, grilled tuna steak on spinach, boletus mushroom sauce and soft maise has truely decadent deep tone. For desert mango and chocholate cake which myself consider as one of the best in Ljubljana.

Restaurant
Das ist Walter is a popular Balkan restaurant in Ljubljana with German-inspired cuisine. The food is great value for money and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The restaurant has typical Bosnian cuisine, nice Turkish coffee and baclava.
Saw great reviews of this place and it did not disappoint. It's located away from the touristy part of town, and the portions are large. Tasty and traditional Balkan food!
Howie — Google review
Excellent eatery serving up delicious Balkan delights! The service was extremely friendly also! We went for the platter for two, shopska salad and fries. This was enough for three people. There was also bread included. All this (with drinks) just under 35 euros! Would recommend!
Sarah S — Google review
We loved the place! Its not a fancy restaurant. Its real restaurant: tasty food and friendly service! I also like the idea of the place. Connecting to the popular movie, which runs on TV, while customers are eating traditional Sarajevo dishes. We took Petka (5 traditional sausages in the bread), Prebranec with sausage and bread (it's bean stew, really great one!) Šopska salad, which is traditional Balkan salad, similar to Greek salad. We took also fried potatoes for our daughter and I was happy that it wasn't as salty as in many places they do. We liked everything! Would definitely come back!
Olga G — Google review
We got chicken and it was delicious and quite filling as the serving size was generous. The bread was fresh and soft. I tried their homemade beer and loved it,
MrsWayfarer — Google review
A local friend recommended us this place and he was not wrong! . It's Bosnian food actually, which also reminds me of some Turkish dish like baklava and kofte-like meals . So we tried the 10-sausages meal and the big patty one. Both served with its traditional bread. Which are really heavy I couldn't finish mine . Taste is great. Beer also great. Price is affordable . Local vibe. Outdoor and indoor seating available . Would like to recommend others to try!

What an awesome place to eat! Great service, great beer, and huge portions! Really huge portions!
Brian D — Google review
Loved this place! Such cool Balkan-style decor and the best ćevapi — juicy, smoky, and full of flavor. Great food, great atmosphere, great vibes!
Goran C — Google review
I don't get the hype. Don't get me wrong, the food was very tasty for sure and you got quite a lot for your money but it wasn't like a big explosion of the finest taste in my mouth. The bread was nice fluffy and grilled as well. Their 'Das ist Walter' beer was tasty, too. If you are in Ljubljana and if you are into meat you for sure should visit this restaurante.

Tivoli Park is Ljubljana's largest park, covering 5 square kilometers of formal gardens, paved paths, and grassy picnic areas. Nestled just northwest of the city center, this expansive green space offers a serene escape with lush forestry and gardens. Visitors can also explore attractions like the zoo and the International Centre for Graphic Arts, which features rotating exhibitions and a cafe with delectable ice cream.
Large green space in the center of Ljubljana, filled with beautiful trees and a small amount of plantings. Glass house is available to wonder near with a lake close by. Swans with Cygnets and ducks with babies swim around the lake offering a place to rest and enjoy the views. Highly recommend.

A lovely park, a bit too few shadowy spots available and there could have been more maps around. Otherwise I recommend going there to see swans and walk between huge trees and vast grass areas.

A must visit. Very beautiful, large, well maintained, with lots of pedestrian and cycling paths. Good washroom and beautiful art in the cafe. A highlight of Ljubljana and easy to get to.

A beautiful, peaceful, and very well-maintained park right in the heart of Ljubljana. You can immediately feel the calm atmosphere — everything is clean, the paths are tidy, and the green areas are well cared for. It’s perfect for a relaxing walk, a bike ride, or just sitting on a bench and enjoying nature. The park is huge and offers something for everyone: open meadows, shaded tree-lined paths, playgrounds for kids, ponds with ducks, and even small art exhibitions along the walkways. There’s also a cozy café where you can grab a coffee or ice cream and simply unwind. What’s great is that despite being so big, it’s right in the city center — yet it feels peaceful and far away from the urban noise. Everything feels safe, clean, and family-friendly. One of the most beautiful places in Ljubljana to relax, recharge, and enjoy nature. Highly recommended, whether you’re alone, with friends, or with your family.

Beautiful park to walk through in Ljubljana. Just watch out for the falling horse chestnuts haha. The park has lots of green space, parks for kids, skate parks, a mini golf cafe and so much more.

Tivoli Park & Rožnik Hill – A Breath of Fresh Air in the Heart of Ljubljana Tivoli Park and Rožnik Hill are true gems nestled right in the center of Ljubljana – a perfect escape from the city buzz without ever really leaving it. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this green oasis offers everything you could want from an urban park and forest: beautiful walking paths, cycling trails, shaded spots for a picnic, and scenic routes for jogging or hiking. It’s the lungs of the city, and you feel it the moment you step under the trees – cleaner air, cooler temperatures, and the calming sound of birds instead of traffic. One of the best things about Rožnik is its accessibility. Within minutes, you can go from the city center to feeling like you’re in the middle of the countryside. It’s a favorite spot for weekend walks, morning runs, or simply clearing your head. At the top of Rožnik Hill, the local inn (Gostilna Rožnik) has been making a comeback. While it had seen better days, it’s slowly improving, both in terms of its menu and service. You’ll find a more curated selection of Slovenian dishes, better coffee, and a generally more inviting atmosphere than in years past. It’s a welcome place to sit down and recharge after the climb, especially on a sunny day. All in all, Tivoli and Rožnik are must-visits if you want to see where Ljubljana truly breathes – not just nature-wise, but culturally too. It’s where locals go to stay grounded, active, and connected to the city’s green soul.

Tivoli Park – Ljubljana’s green lung and instant happiness (May 2025) On a perfect spring morning we walked from the city centre and within 10 minutes we were in this huge, peaceful oasis. Perfectly manicured paths, giant old trees, little ponds with ducks, blooming chestnut avenues, playful squirrels everywhere, and the Jakopič Promenade that feels made for photos. We loved the mix: families picnicking, joggers, old couples on benches, kids chasing bubbles – pure everyday Ljubljana life. The park is so big you can find both lively spots and completely quiet corners to read or just breathe. Clean, safe, free, and honestly one of the most beautiful city parks we’ve ever seen in Europe. If you only have a couple of hours in Ljubljana, spend at least one here – you’ll leave smiling.

Discover the charm of Ljubljana with the Ljubljana Free Tour, a classic 2-3 hour city tour that showcases the main attractions in the city center. While the tour is free, tipping is encouraged as a token of appreciation for their exceptional service. In addition to the classic city tour, they also offer other affordable tours such as the communist tour, Jewish heritage tour, and medieval tour.
We had a fabulous tour with Lucy as a tour guide. There was a mix of history, architecture, culture and suggestions - I honestly couldn’t fault it! We feel in a good position to navigate the rest of our holiday. We were also given free tokens for a couple of other places in the city! I really do recommend, particularly with Lucy as she was so knowledgeable and generally lovely!

This tour was incredible! I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Ljubljana. Our guide Helena was amazing! The tour lasted about 2 hours and 20 minutes and was jam packed with info about the city and Slovenia—history, government, art, architecture, culture, food, interesting/amusing factoids, and even tips on local spots to check out. We also got free samples of a local liquor from a shop along the way. Great way to spend the afternoon, and I’d recommend doing this tour at the start of your stay in Ljubljana so that you have tips on what to do/where to go during the rest of your time in the city.

We spent a very pleasant and informative two hours. Although the town is small, it hides many treasures and has a rich history. Our tour guide, Vojka, with her perfect English, introduced us to the city’s past. We owe the city’s appearance to the Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik, its cultural influence to the Slovenian poet France Prešeren, and this wonderful two-hour experience to Vojka. By the way, she also offers discount coupons, and we even got free tastings during the walk. We are very grateful. Thank you very much!

Lana was a great tour guide providing fun insights about Ljubljana, its history, its myths and legends and the people who made the city what it is today. She was very personable and answered all of our questions from why the dragons are on the bridge to why a poet has a prominent statue in the town square. Highly recommended.

Nama

Department store
Nama is a well-established department store in Ljubljana, offering a wide range of products from casual to high-end boutiques, cosmetics, and gourmet foods. Recently renovated, Nama is located in the city center and features both local Slovenian and international fashion brands. The store's mix of tradition and modernity makes it a popular shopping destination and an iconic symbol of Ljubljana's vibrant retail scene.
Nama is located in the heart of Ljubljana, and it is easily accessible by public transportation or by car. Overall, I think that Nama is a great department store. It offers a wide variety of products and services, and it is conveniently located. The store is clean and well-organized, and the staff is friendly and helpful. However, prices can be a bit high, and the store can be crowded, especially on weekends.
Zlatko M — Google review
We won’t be surprised if Nama is closing down anytime soon. The attitude of staff is beyond words, unprofessional, unhelpful, unfriendly. Customer asked for help to reconfirm the sizes at the lady department, the senior staff lady raised voce and said “I don’t know, check”. Similarly experienced at the shoes department!

First spent 30mins with staff who couldn’t find an item that’s supposed to be in store, and then got stopped by the security and taken for a pat-down as another customer apparently thought I was shoplifting! Never again.

I want to thank Mirela for taking so much time to help me during my trip to the Nama store in Ljubljana. I ended up buying these two pairs of sneakers; Colmar Travis Pro Duals & Lumberjack Nolans. The store was recently reorganized and the stock wasn’t in the expected location. Even though it was late and she was nearing the end of her shift, Mirela spent approximately half an hour going through many boxes in the back of the store until she found my size in both of these sneakers. Greetings from Canada.

The best shopping mall in all of Ljubljana. The price ranges are from low to expensive. Everyone can shop here. Almost all things can be found here. The clothes have varieties too. The location is also very near to the city center. It’s big and you can spend your whole day in it. The staff is good too.

Neboticnik - Skyscraper is a historic high-rise building in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Constructed in 1933, it was one of the tallest buildings in Europe at that time and boasts architectural significance from the interwar period. The building houses shops, offices, private flats, and a renowned restaurant with a roof terrace called Neboticnik Cafe. This cafe offers stunning panoramic views of Ljubljana from its vantage point atop the skyscraper.
Great place for cozy drinks with a view you won’t forget. From the terrace you can see the whole old city and the Ljubljana Castle right in front of you. Perfect spot to sip a drink during sunset or at night when the city lights up. The atmosphere is calm and elegant, and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. A must-visit when in Ljubljana.
Despina L — Google review
Views upon sunset are worth it. Service is fast and amicable. The building has important history. BUT the 12th floor could be in much better condition. Glasses are stained, smell (inside) is disgusting and furniture could be better. Still, recommendable.
Mauricio M — Google review
The building's entrance goes unnoticed. We found it with the help of a passerby. Only the rooftop bar, with its modernist inspiration characteristic of the early 20th century, is open to visitors. It's an exceptional spot for a coffee or a Spritz, with magnificent 360° views over Ljubljana, amidst tourists and locals alike.
Tiago T — Google review
Nice rooftop bar to watch the sunset, with great views of the city. Staff were nice and helpful. Service was a little slow when we visited, but this was most likely due to the time of day, as it was very busy. We were lucky to get a table, a party was departing as we arrived. My first choice of drink was unavailable as a key ingredient was missing, but there were plenty of other delicious drinks to choose from.😋 My only suggestion to the owners/staff would be to clean the glass/Perspex surrounding the perimeter walls of the roof terrace as they are dirty, and spoil photos if you are unable to rise/hold camera above it to take great photos. It's definitely worth a visit!
A B — Google review
From the outside the building is just a square block. But the spiral staircase inside is very interesting. You can only walk up to the 10th floor. To go to restaurant and terrace on 10, 11, 12th floor, can only take the elevator. View from the terrace certainly is gorgeous.
Connie W — Google review
The view was good, if you want to visit the skyscraper and take pictures is ok if you order from the bar in the last floor from what we understand. The drink i ordered was nothing special but i recommend to go for the view 🏙

1 | Nebotičnik is a historic 70-metre-tall high-rise in the heart of Ljubljana, completed in 1933 and once one of the tallest buildings in Europe. Its top-floor café and viewing terrace offer panoramic views over the city, the rooftops, and the nearby hills, accessible via its original Art Deco elevator. 2 | I was surprised that the "skyscraper" wasn’t as tall as I expected. It’s actually pretty easy to miss from the street — for reference, it’s located right next to the Cyanometer attraction. 3 | On the rooftop, there’s a café with a stunning view of the entire area. The tables are set on an outdoor terrace that offers a full 360° panorama. You can visit without paying an entrance fee — you just need to order something at the café. 4 | Prices at the café were surprisingly reasonable (as of July 2025). An espresso costs 2.70 euros, a cappuccino is 3.10 euros, and a Union beer is 4.70 euros. They also serve toast and sandwiches. 5 | Card payment is accepted. What disappointed me was the very slow service — we were ignored for several minutes. 6 | The interior of the skyscraper reflects the era it was built in, with no major renovations. Worth noting are the vintage elevator and the spiral staircase located on the ground floor right next to it. 7 | I recommend visiting the rooftop café at sunset. It can get crowded, but the view is unforgettable. On a clear day, you can see the mountains beyond the city from Nebotičnik.

An ok location but with some problems: -Dirty windows blocking the view, sitting in this restaurant doesnt matter becouse you cant see the view anyway becouse of the dirtyness. -Prices are high. -Customer service just stands in a group and talks, doesnt really look like they wanna help you at all. -But the worst of all, our drink had alot of Ice, it was almost no drink at all. Will not return here...

The Slovenian National Art Gallery takes us on a fascinating journey through the history of art through its collection of works. Of particular note are the transitions between artistic movements and their various artists. A must-see in Ljubljana. With lots of school students. There's a small café in the lobby with delicious pastries, where retired ladies sit and chat happily.

The National Gallery in Ljubljana is about a 15-minute walk from the Old Town, situated near Tivoli Park. Housed in a historic building with a modern interior, it offers a pleasant and accessible environment for visitors. The permanent exhibition showcases Slovenian art from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century, providing a clear and well-organized journey through the country’s artistic evolution. Information is available in both Slovenian and English, making it easy to navigate and understand. During our visit, we explored two temporary exhibitions: Baroque in Slovenia: Featuring over 170 artworks from the 17th and 18th centuries, this exhibition offers insight into the Baroque period’s influence on Slovenian art, highlighting the blend of Central European and Mediterranean artistic expressions. While the Baroque style isn‘t our favorite, the exhibition was well set-up. From Shadow into Light: The Sketchbooks of Ivana Kobilca: This exhibition delves into the sketchbooks of Ivana Kobilca, Slovenia’s most prominent female painter, providing a unique glimpse into her creative process and the development of her artworks. We really liked her work, and spent most of our time in this temporary exhibition. Tickets were purchased on-site without any issues. The gallery also includes a small shop and a café, perfect for a short break. We spent approximately 1.5 hours exploring the exhibitions, which felt sufficient to appreciate the collections without feeling rushed. Overall, the National Gallery is a recommended stop for those interested in art and its historical development in Slovenia.

Well designed and gorgeous art museum in Ljubljana. The tickets for temporary and permanent exhibitions costs only 9 euro for students. There are toilets and also baggage storage cabinets. The temporary exhibition was fine but that many in quantities. However, the permanent exhibition was a huge thing here! They were displayed in a magnificent hall and include statutes and artworks. Especially, there is a room where you can sit and quietly watch the painting of a few cows with comfortable music, what an enjoyment! In the back side of the museum, where the cafe is, has a spacious location that is more modernized design and wow! Overall, recommend spending 1 to 2 hours here!

Restaurant Šestica, also known as Gostilna Šestica, is a historic establishment in Ljubljana, Slovenia's capital. Since 1776, it has been serving traditional and original Slovenian cuisine to both locals and international visitors. Originally frequented by cargo drivers, the restaurant now offers a blend of tradition and modernity with waiters in national costumes and live music events.
Went on a Sunday around 7.30pm, not crowded. Staff speaking English and professional. Food is tasty and good portion size. Recommend this restaurant for authentic Slovenian cuisine.

This restaurant was recommended by a local person. I had a beef soup, it was so nice in the rainy afternoon. And I asked the waiter for a Slovenian sausage, which was good but not beyond my expectations. Anyway it was a good meal and the service was quick and kind.

Ambience was great, looked amazing. Foods were delicious esp the creamy mushroom soup in crust of bread, the fish was cooked perfectly and tasted well made. The service was a bit off. Our server seemed to have an attitude. So far, my gastronomic experience was great.

This is the oldest restaurant in Ljubljana and its well worth a visit. We recommend you reserve a table as it’s quite popular and they might not be able to squeeze you in, even during a week day like when we visited. Service was good, spoke English very well and explained some of the preparations for the dish as well. The deer filet was phenomenal that my wife had.

Delicious local food and reasonable priced. The service was pretty slow but to be fair, there was only 1 waiter covering the outside tables where we were sat he was also helpful when choosing a dish and the veal goulash with buckwheat polenta pieces was great!

Cantina Mexicana, situated in Ljubljana's bustling Knafljev Prehod, is a local institution and a popular choice for both locals and visitors. Despite Ljubljana not being known for Mexican cuisine, this restaurant has been a favorite for over fifteen years. The efficient and prompt service adds to the appeal of this brightly-colored eatery that offers classic Mexican American fusion dishes.
We had a pleasant dining experience, with some hits and misses. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the grilled meat with corn, a delightful combination. I found the paella to be decent, considering it's a Mexican restaurant rather than a Spanish one. However, I was slightly disappointed with the tapas, which I felt were overpriced for the quality and portion size. The service was excellent and attentive.

These are the reviews I dislike the most but I believe also bad experiences need to be shared. And, unfortunately, this was the first (and so far also the only) bad dining experience in Ljubljana. Let's start with the positive: Sitting outside was quite nice regarding the ambience, although the tables were slightly dirty. Also, the corn soup I had was tolerable. Everything started with the service: Maybe the wrong waiter served us or he had a bad day but not only did he hardly speak with us at all, also he was very unfriendly toward us. Especially, questions from our side didn't seem to be tolerated. Such a bad experience makes guests feel very unwelcome. The food wasn't much better - it was okay at best but definitely no authentic Mexican cuisine. My dish, for example, was a paella: The rice was a bit overcooked, the dish was too salty and the seafood was overcooked and didn't taste fresh. The two lime halves were dry and couldn't be squeezed at all. The worst part were the Margaritas, which were outright undrinkable. Last but not least, the waiter not only didn't say goodbye or asked how our meal was (maybe he already knew the answer), also he mixed up two of the bills. All in all, this is not an establishment I can suggest to anyone. Ljubljana has a lot of great restaurants but this is none of those.

The food was amazing, the service was excellent and the price wasn't bad either. The pudding was the best, and we went back just for the chocolate hole. It was amazing.

Great, friendly staff and a very relaxed atmosphere. The food was tasty - you get a huge portion of ribs, but we call them country style ribs in Kentucky, meaning they have lots of fat. Usually I cook these extra long to render some of that down, but the bbq sauce was good. Overall a solid meal if you’re in the mood for Mexican and stranded in Slovenia.

Situated in the heart of the city center, nestled in the passage in the pedestal street amidst a cluster of other restaurants. The service is both friendly and enthusiastic. The extensive menu boasts a myriad of options inspired by Latin American cuisine, offering great value for money. There are ample choices for vegetarians, with a few vegan options available as well. The portions are fresh and generous, making it advisable to visit when you have a hearty appetite. Alternatively, you can opt for tapas if you're in the mood for a casual beer and a snack. They serve also local drink (beers and stronger alcohol) it's a fine dining experience.
Aleksandar D — Google review
A neat place, everything in Mexican style, many tables, even on the 1st floor, which is very nicely lit. The food is excellent, the tortillas are very good, the portions are large, even for a very hungry man to eat well. A large selection of dishes, which are very nicely arranged in the menu, also marked with possible allergens. Friendly staff, fast service. The dishes are not expensive, depending on what you order, but since the portions are satisfactory and you eat well, of course it is not difficult to give a little more. The main dishes there are around 8-14 euros. As a family of three, we ate 3 main dishes, which had a choice of not only one side dish, but three (choice of fries, rice, vegetables, sauces, onion bread...), onion rings, a drink (beer, cocktail, juice) and we paid 43 which is not much for large portions. I highly recommend it.
Blanka P — Google review
Cool place for Mexican food. Delicious as well. Their service is good. It is located opposite 2 other restaurant and pub so it can be quite noisy at times if you are expecting quite dining experience. Otherwise everything is great.
Harry R — Google review
Cute place. Good music. Service was good. I was disappointed in the food. It was okay. Really didn't seem Mexican at all to me. Served French fries with my chimichanga, which also was unlike any chimichanga I have ever had. The outside was very pasty and tasteless. I'm not sure what the white sauce they served was but it was tasteless and they served cheese wiz in a bowl with it. I sadly couldn't try a margarita. The food won't hurt you. The chicken inside tasted okay, but in my humble opinion, don't get a hankering for good Mexican.

Cafe
Tozd is a unique spot in Ljubljana's Bohemian quarter, offering a blend of cafe and wine bar experiences. Despite its small size, the selection of raw and unfiltered wines, including those from Heaps Good Wine, showcases their expertise. The cozy ambiance attracts artists and locals who enjoy live music, poetry readings, and art exhibitions. Tozd also supports fair trade with its excellent coffee selection from various continents. Additionally, it offers outdoor seating perfect for warm days.
Tozd is such a gem right in the heart of Ljubljana. The atmosphere is effortlessly cool, laid-back, artsy, and full of charm. It’s one of those places where you can easily lose track of time, whether you’re deep into studying or just enjoying the buzz of the city with a coffee in hand. The coffee is excellent—rich and smooth, clearly made with care. The staff are super friendly and always create a relaxed, welcoming vibe. There are plenty of comfortable spots to sit, with just the right lighting and ambiance to focus and stay productive. If you're looking for a place that combines great energy, solid coffee, and a study-friendly setup, Tozd is it.

I had a very unpleasant experience at this café. My bill was €8.80, and I gave the waiter a €50 note, which is legal payment. He told me it was my problem that he didn’t have change and even threatened to call the police, saying I had no way to pay. This was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. As a customer, I offered valid cash, and the staff should be prepared to provide change or handle the situation politely. I would not recommend this place based on this experience.

Restaurant
Gostilna As is a renowned restaurant in Ljubljana, offering top-notch Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. With a focus on seafood specialties and perfectly grilled steaks, this establishment has maintained its high standards for over two decades. The professional and welcoming staff are ready to assist with menu choices and wine pairings from their extensive list of over 300 varieties.
Grate flavored food with touches from the east and west. If you love to explore this is the place. Sea food , meat dishes and few vegan options.

It took the waiter 10 minutes just to bring me the menu. I came here after seeing the restaurant listed in the Michelin guide and had high expectations, but the food was a big letdown. For starters, I ordered a pesto pasta with shrimp, but the shrimp was overcooked and mushy. My main course was seabass, served with what seemed to be plant chips, but they were completely stale. If you’re a true foodie, I wouldn’t recommend this place. For the price they charge, I’d rather have a simple sausage with sauerkraut somewhere else in town.
Jocie_SG C — Google review
Typical Italian restaurant but a touch toward fine dining. It’s a good go-to place if you cannot get reservations to your Michelin starred preferences. And it’s conveniently located in the basement of the AS Boutique Hotel, if you are staying there.

Ljubljana has a few good restaurants but this one is up there in the top two when it comes to food quality. However, when it comes to the hospitality and service from the entire staff including the famous owner Pop, there is no match for atmosphere and vibe. Day 4

Off the beaten path
For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Ljubljana Zoo. Not quite as popular as Ljubljana Castle, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Outdoor Activities
Ljubljana Zoo is a compact city zoo located on the southern slope of the Roznik Hill, surrounded by woods and meadows. It's an ideal destination for a family outing, offering a children's playground, special events, and an on-site eatery. The zoo houses a diverse range of animals including birds, wild animals, and predatory species. Despite its smaller size, it offers pleasant surroundings for leisurely walks amidst rich flora and fauna.
We had the most incredible day at the zoo! ❤️ It was such a beautiful space, filled with shade, perfect for a warm day of adventure. With 6.5 km of stunning trails to explore, every step was a delight! To top it all off, we celebrated the elephant's 50th birthday! 🎉 Everyone was treated to free ice cream and delicious Indian desserts, which made the experience even sweeter. The zoo staff were super friendly, adding to the festive atmosphere. What an unforgettable day!
Taoane L — Google review
A lovely natural park type zoo, the perfect place to spend a few hours on a hot day as there is lots of shade. There's lots of free parking outside as well, which is great. The animals mostly seem well cared for and happy, with large natural enclosures. There are lots of playgrounds for children as well, the frog leap playground is especially cool. The ticket price is quite good, but inside the prices for food and drinks is crazy - €3.80 for a Pepsi!!
Mike — Google review
One of the best Zoo I've been! Very kids orientated place, even if you do not prefer Zoo's, it's great place to bring kids, walk through park, clean air, let kids play around with plenty of playgrounds. As for animals, this is more like nature park, it's very nice and a lot of space and nature habbit for animals
Djordje M — Google review
Beautiful zoo! We saw all the animals (even the tiger, who was napping in a shade) except for the capybaras, which were hiding from the sun. It really does feel more like a stroll through a forest than a zoo visit, which just makes it even better. We spent close to 4 hours there. Some of the enclosures seemed a bit small, for example the seals, some of the bird cages and the elephant who seemed a bit lonely and bored. On the other hand, other animals' enclosures were huge and going through them felt more like walking through a reservation.
Matej M — Google review
A great place to relax! The zoo isn’t big, but it’s very cozy and easy to walk through. The animal exhibits are interesting. Our kid liked it here.
Ģirts D — Google review
A really nice experience at Ljubljana Zoo. It’s easy to get there via a single bus trip from the city center. The animals are generally well located and preserved. There is a small hill in the zoo, which creates a natural habitat for wild animals such as wild cats and birds. The elephant place is not big enough and it can be better if more space is available.
Sihang L — Google review
The Ljubljana Zoo is a great place to visit, especially for kids. They have a variety of animals, including an elephant and a giraffe, among others. More and more, people are questioning the ethics of zoos because animals are often kept in limited enclosures. However, it's also true that many species have been saved from extinction thanks to the conservation efforts of zoos.
Slava O — Google review
We were wandering through the park with no real plans and ended up here at the zoo and were so pleasantly surprised! This zoo is incredible. It's so large and has everything you could think of. Most recent f the enclosures were large and had great space. We thought the ticket and food prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend

History Museums
Narodni muzej Slovenije, housed in a Renaissance palace, is the country's oldest museum and a must-visit for history enthusiasts. It shares its building with the Slovenian Museum of Natural History and boasts an extensive collection of archaeological artifacts, old coins, banknotes, and applied arts displays. The main building is a Neo-Renaissance gem built between 1883 and 1885. Visitors can explore exhibits illustrating the country's history, including maritime history and ancient artifacts.
Beautiful building inside. Take your headphones if you want to use audioguide. The natural history part definitely more interesting. A lot of animals. Historic part is also nice but I've already been to similar ones so not so impressive. Cheap. At least 2 hours if you don't need to read every description.

We paid 10 euros each as part of the two museum package. One part of the building is the National Museum of Slovenia and the other the Natural History Museum. It's a good place to spend a couple of hours, especially if it's raining! We spent alot of time initially looking and reading (in English) at the exhibits. They were all very interesting and I could have stayed longer, but my partner got bored and was virtually running to the exit. We did enjoy ourselves; well at least I did! And to top if off when we got out it was still raining!

The National Museum of Slovenia in Ljubljana is a great place to explore the country’s history. Housed in a beautiful old building, it has exhibits from prehistoric times to the present. The museum is spacious but not overwhelming, perfect for an hours visit.

A combined museum with historical part (from prehistory to medieval times) and natural history part. The main staircase is quite beautiful. There is a whole exhibition on world's oldest musical instrument. There was also a temporary exhibition on baroque with quite unique layout.

It’s 2 museums at once: National Museum of Slovenia & Natural History Museum, perfect for a rainy day. Adult price 10, student 6 EUR.

First of all, the building is majestic. I went to see the history museum, it shows everything from prehistory to late middle ages. Impressive amount of objects to see especially from ancient times, for sure I didn't expect Slovenia to be so rich as an archaeological site. There is really a lot to learn, could easily spend 2 hours or even more if one is interested in reading everything.
Sara ( — Google review
Amazing for those interested in archeaology. Many artifacts, including from the Neolithic, Stone Age, Iron Age, Copper age etc were shown. There were even Neanderthal artifacts! I found the informational placards very informative and engaging. The interactive exhibit sections were also very good - i enjoyed making music with bones. There were no crowds and the museum staff was friendly

Step into the world of optical illusions and mind-bending installations at the House of Illusions. This 2-story museum offers a collection of creative illusions, including whole rooms designed to deceive your eyes and brain. Perfect for groups, bring along family, friends, or colleagues for an hour or two of fun exploring three floors filled with visual tricks. Test your skills in the games room with mind-bending puzzles available for purchase.
I thought this would be a bit of a waste of money and a bit twee but it's actually really fun. Some of the illusions you'll have seen before but a lot you won't have and some are really funny/engaging. The upside down room photos are fun in particular The best thing is the staff who are really enthusiastic and without them this place wouldn't be nearly as good. Be aware it is quite small so you'll have to wait 1 in 1 out at busy times. The moving (not moving) walkway is quite nausea inducing so don't drink too much slush before going in it

A lovely family program for a rainy day in Ljubljana. The museum has a good collection of visual illusions, lots of interactive and funny activities. It is enjoyable both for children and adults. The athmosphere is friendly and creative (don't miss the disco in the toilet🤩). Thanks for the good memories (and also for the restaurant recommendations❤)

Uau, what a great place to step back from busy world. It is great place not only for children but also adults can enjoy it! The staff is super friendly and they make the atmosphere even more relaxed. The illusions are funny and there are descriptions for each in different languages. I visited the place with my freshly 8year old and we enjoyed it both! I highly recommend the visit for all, big and small, to share an hour of fun and relaxation and to get the touch of the world of illusion. Five stars and we will definitely come back again.

Peti 181 restaurant is a culinary gem run by Petra Kapetanovic Orlic, who found her calling in the kitchen. She's a natural hostess and takes pride in personally recommending dishes to her guests. The restaurant offers delicious and flavorful cuisine with perfectly portioned dishes that leave patrons satisfied but not overly full. While the menu may seem straightforward, the attentive servers provide mouthwatering descriptions that make choosing a delightful challenge.
Absolutely charming. Memorably delicious! Chef Peti welcomed us and she shared the dishes of the day. My favorite was the raw fish platter. I could have eaten two full trays! The flavor was decadent. The truffle egg ravioli was stunning. The foie gras was delicious. The steak melts in your mouth. And of course we had every dessert and they were all perfect. A lovely evening. Thank you.

Japanese restaurant
Sushimama is a cozy Japanese restaurant in Slovenia, known for being the first of its kind in the country. The restaurant offers an extensive menu featuring Japanese favorites such as soups, noodle dishes, and sushi. One unique feature is the display of head Japanese sushi chef Hiroki Ishikawa at work. The restaurant also offers a subscription to Wallpaper magazine and a selection of cocktails and wines.
The atmosphere in this restaurant is unlike any other. Everything in the decor makes sense and creates a calm environment that makes for a good conversation place. I love it. I ordered the salmon and tuna sashimi. I also had a picture of some sushi I ate in Belgrade but had no idea what it was. The waiter and chef were happy to help and took time to figure out what it was. The service is impeccable, the waiter was attentive and the food came out in less than 20 minutes. And it was insanely delicious! The fish practically melted in my mouth. Would definitely recommend!

Favourite restaurant in Ljubljana. Get the black cod... we have never tried anything like this in our lives. This fish litalerally melts in the mouth. Sushi is also great... but this black cod dish is out of this world. The waiters are very friendly and professional. The main dish takes a bit of time to be ready, so do have patience.

Food was incredible, especially the flour they use for shrimp tempura was so special. Service was very average, with everything was set at a luxury level, and predefined tips % at payment, this is quite disappointed.
Emily Z — Google review
Honestly, we expected more. The restaurant didn’t feel much different from typical sushi bars around the world. On the positive side, a good selection of quality raw fish. The California roll with real crab was fine, but nothing special. We also enjoyed the miso soup with crab, the broth was excellent. The hot yellowtail dish came with too much salty sauce, and we ended up scraping it off to eat the fish. The high price point did not feel justified for us.
Екатерина П — Google review
I called the restaurant in advance because I wanted to reserve a table outside on the terrace. However, they informed me that reservations can only be made online and did not accept my booking over the phone, which I found inconvenient and not very guest-friendly. When I arrived without a reservation, I was seated inside instead. On the positive side, the food was as tasty as always, and the wine selection by the glass was also very good.

The place was nice, clean, and relaxing. Aside from “westernized” selection such as the boston roll, the sushi is what you can typically expect from sushi places in Japan. I got the nami and my husband got the jou. The portions were just enough for lunch. The picture attached is the nami but swapped the mackerel and octopus with my husband’s ama ebi and hotate. The miso soup with crab was also ok, contains real crab meat as well.

We had tempura udon, teriyaki chicken with mango, california and alaska roll. The soup for udon is magnificent, it’s rich and tasty without MSG. The tempura chicken is also super tasty! Mango is super sweet and soft and the chicken skin is crispy. Ginger tea has strong ginger in it. Last but the least, the service is great. Our waiter is attentive and considerate. 10/10

The restaurant's underground setting, adorned with memorabilia from the 1984 Winter Olympics and old Yugoslav tourist videos, creates a nostalgic and atmospheric dining experience.
Loved the place. Kids had colouring books since we got here, simple and always helpful! English speaking, very friendly staff! Drinks were immediately served. The food was delicious! Are willing to come back! Thank you for the excellent service 🫶🏻

I've been there a few weeks ago, it was my first time eating Bosnian, and did not disappoint. Since I came alone and the portions are generous I couldn't try a lot, but I enjoyed the lunch enough to come back for dinner. The baklava was spectacular, I already had baklava before but this was the best I've ever eaten 😍 The price is very good, the staff is lovely and the part inside gives a really nice atmosphere, it feels like being at home ❤️ I enjoyed the background music, vintage Yugoslavia songs that add to the atmosphere Recommended, and if I will happen to be in Ljubljana again I will definitely be back :)

This was the first time my wife and I have tried eastern european food and boy was it a delight! We found this place as it was close by to our hotel and you knew it was going to be good by the line out the door. We didn't have to wait too long. Service was incredibly friendly and accommodating to English speakers. We ordered a whole array of food and thanks to the staff for the recommendations as it was all delicious. Notable highlights were the stuffed peppers and the sausage plate.

This place was super busy! I went on my own and I was lucky that a small table was available otherwise I would had to wait much longer. The waiters do the best they can considered the crowd, and overall I didn't wait too long for the food which was amazing. I didn't see much of the rest of the place but looks very authentic. Prices were in line with other places in Ljubljana.

Simple, cheap, quick and tasty, and a must visit. Arrived to queues on the stairs, but got seated within 10-15 minutes. Pretty small but gives it a great atmosphere. Had the stew, pie, beans and bread, followed by both desserts. All the other dishes looked incredible. Very rarely cannot finish meals but portions were massive. The adverts by the entrance can make it seem a little touristy/tacky, but don't let that deter you.

In a cool, cave-like setting in the basement of a building outside Ljubljana’s city center, you will find a remarkable restaurant. Our spunky waitress was so kind and helpful and was a joy to interact with all night. She helped us order the most traditional of Bosnian feasts. We started with a traditional liquor as an aperitif. The stuffed pepper and beef stew starters were delectable. The giant meat platter that followed was excellent and ended up being more than we could eat. All the way, we were served gratis drinks. And we ended up with a takeout bag with our leftovers (“our eyes were hungry,” the traditional Bosnian phrase she taught us for overordering) that fed us for another entire meal. The hospitality (and food) made us regret that we didn’t include Bosnia on this trip, but that just gives us a reason to return to the Balkans!

Amazing experience! We went straight after it opened because the previous day it was too packed of people. The waitress spoke italian and recommended us the right portion because she warned us that their plates were abundant. Fortunately, we did listen to her. It was all delicious and very affordable considering the other places we’ve been to!

Azur is a charming trattoria and pizzeria located in a quiet suburban area of Ljubljana. Despite some mixed experiences, the restaurant has maintained consistent quality over the years. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it a pleasant place to dine. While some dishes like the giant squid/octopus salad and risotto with gamberi, mushrooms, and truffles received mixed reviews, others have raved about the outstanding flavors and fresh ingredients used in their mouthwatering dishes.
The rooms are clean, well put and with all necessary equipment. Pet friendly. The quality of the restaurant is top notch, probably my favourite in Ljubljana. Waiters are very kind, the food is amazing, with more than enough options. Also good for people with allergies, you can always find something that will make you satisfied. I especially recommend their soups and pizzas.
Luksss — Google review
Azur serves some of the best pizza in town—perfectly crisp crust, fresh toppings, and a rich, flavorful sauce. Warm atmosphere and friendly service make every visit a treat. Highly recommended

I’ve stayed in many hotels across Europe, and I have to say that Loti is one of the best hosts I’ve ever met. She is always present at the hotel, ready to react immediately if anything goes wrong. She truly cares about every guest and is extremely reliable, always replying quickly to any message. She even gave me a huge discount on the family room since I was traveling alone — and it was the last room they had! In the morning, you’re treated to an extra croissant — fresh, warm, and perfectly crunchy. Azur Hotel offers some of the best service I’ve ever experienced. Highly recommended!
Marko R — Google review
Dear Azur, such business moves as changing the pizza recipe, removing pizza from the menu, which I have been eating as a customer for about 25 years, for me mean disrespect to loyal guests. For me you are no longer No. 1. Therefore, from today on, I will not share recommendations for your pizzeria, which I have done for the last quarter of a century! Good luck with the rest of your customers.

We had beef carpaccio ( large serving, but I don’t like the fig), Kalamari, spaghetti bolognese and roast beef pizza. Food and service were both very good. Staff is very efficient. Limited parking in front of the restaurant. But don’t try the coffee. It’s bad

We had lunch at the tratorija. The service and the food is wonderful.

Previous visit: Both pizzas were good, although mine was a little “dry” and slightly overbaked. Next visit: They really stepped up their pizza game. The Neapolitan-style pizzas were excellent.

It's located out of the city centre so it's a lot less busy and noisy around. They also have a terrace, which is covered but still open so that it doesn't get too hot in the summer. We were probably lucky since it wasn't that many people there and we got a table instantly without a reservation. Regarding the food, they have a great fluffy pizza dough with lots of toppings. I think that also the sizes are pretty balanced. Regarding the prices they're pretty much like everywhere else.

This iconic square features a bronze statue, shaded by trees and a music pavilion. It is surrounded by monumental buildings such as the University of Ljubljana and the stunning Trinity Church with its remarkable Romanesque facade.
We rented an apartment near Congress Square — such a lovely area to visit! The square is full of history and charm, with so many stories connected to it. Definitely worth a walk around if you’re in Ljubljana.

Lovely area, nice and chill though having a nap some guy tried to mug me putting his hand in my pocket. I woke up touching my pocket and he kept repeating it's ok it's alright and then waved a nearly empty can of lager in my face before walking off. White t shirt tanned straight hair greased down, karma follows.

Slovenia is the country to be. Very beautiful. The ancient structure are well built and maintained. These buildings date back to the 1800/1900. The people are not in a hurry by no means. Healthy and rich food. Cant compare it to the US. No wonder everyone here are very healthy. I will definately come back again!

The Franciscan Church of the Annunciation, a 17th-century landmark in Ljubljana, is known for its striking pink facade and ornate interior adorned with ceiling frescoes. Situated on Preseren Square near the Ljubljanica river, this grand Baroque church stands out with its salmon-pink exterior and two bell towers. It competes for attention with other iconic sights like Zmajski Most and the Triple Bridge.
It is a beautiful church, the color so vibrant, making a statement at the center on Ljubljana, any house of worship is always highly recommended!

The Franciscan Church of the Annunciation in Ljubljana is a stunning pink landmark in Prešeren Square. Its Baroque interior features beautiful frescoes, a grand altar, and a peaceful atmosphere. The church’s library, with rare books, is accessible after buying a ticket. It’s a quick visit, about 15-30 minutes, perfect for soaking in history and art.
Ramdas P — Google review
One of the two most remarkable churces in the capital. The church is entered through the monastery to the left of it. You need to pay for a visit. Nice baroque interior with not so nice post baroque frescoes. You can buy the combined ticket also for a small museum which is a bit hard to find. You need to go through the courtyard, ring the bell and go to the first floor - not a good navigation! This museum is very small but you can see some remarkable paintings and renovated francsican library.

Beautiful and iconic church in the very heart of Ljubljana. The Franciscan Church of the Annunciation with its striking red façade is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. The interior is peaceful and elegant, with beautiful frescoes and a serene atmosphere. Located right on Prešeren Square, it’s easy to visit while exploring the old town. A must-see spot for anyone visiting Ljubljana — perfect for photos and a quiet moment of reflection.

The beautiful, Baroque salmon-colored Church of the Annunciation is the Franciscan church in Ljubljana, built in 1646. Located on Central Prešeren Square, it is attached to a 13th century monastery.
Francine L — Google review
Beautiful pink church which is an outcome of the fading of the originally red paint, interesting. There’s an entrance fee and the to enter you have to go to the left side of the main entrance, there’s a door.
J — Google review
I was here on Christmas Eve and it has a wonderful Nativity scene inside at the altar. It is so detailed and sophisticated, it has so many little figures! The scene even has a little fountain and a bonfire in it. I loved that the church was so welcoming, there were a lot of children around the scene with parents teaching them on the meaning of it. That's what the Christmas is all about! To compare: another church in the nearby - the Saint Nicholas church - at the same Christmas Eve was so unfriendly, there was a festive service with the organ but the church was empty because the doors were closed and they put a sign for tourists to stay away. This Franciscan church was not like that and I'm grateful for their warm hospitality!
Oksana A — Google review
The Franciscan Church is hard to miss, with its stunning pink façade that stands out from various angles across Prešeren Square. It’s one of the most iconic buildings in Ljubljana and offers a beautiful mix of Baroque architecture and a peaceful atmosphere. Even if you’re not religious, the interior is worth stepping into, with its impressive artwork and serene vibe. I found it to be a great spot to pause during my day of exploring. It's not overly crowded, and the soft light coming through the stained glass windows gives it a calming feel. There's also a small shop where you can purchase religious items, adding a little extra to the experience. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful moment or just admiring the building’s beauty, it’s a lovely place to visit.

Do not miss this! We were in Ljubljana for two Fridays and ate like royalty both times. Amazing selection of vendors, the food portions were gracious and so many friendly helpful people around. This is an event that's a can't miss if you're in Ljubljana!

Local food court held every Friday, which transforms into a lively culinary hotspot! The variety of food was truly impressive – from international street eats to beloved local favorites, there was something to satisfy every craving. The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, filled with unique aromas and happy faces. What a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to showcase their specialties and connect with new customers.

A must see/do when visiting Ljubljana! Take caution: only on Fridays! Every Friday you can find a lot of different food (&drink) stands with food from all over the world; Korean, Thai, Argentinian and so on. Combine them with a good glass or bottleneck of wine and you have yourself a great evening of esquisite flavours. Definitely recommended!

Great atmosphere and good place to spend a Friday morning at. There’s a huge selection of food to chose from, although too pricey in my opinion. You can get a better meal at any restaurants in the area and it would probably be cheaper too.

It was really crowded when we went, making it a pretty lively and interesting experience. There are many different stalls to choose from, and we settled on a few choices. Križanke, a former 13th-century Teutonic monastery in Ljubljana, has been transformed into a major cultural venue by architect Joze Plecnik. The complex features an open-air theater with a capacity for 1,400 spectators and an early 18th-century church designed by Domenico Rossi. It is the key setting for the city's summer festival of music and dance, hosting ballet performances and the International Fine Arts Colony.
The ćevapčići, schnitzel, beef soup, and Shopska salad were very tasty, and the baklava for dessert was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, my soup was almost forgotten and only brought at the very end, when my friends had already finished eating. However, the kind waitress made sure it was not included in the bill, which we really appreciated, and we thanked her for this thoughtful gesture. Overall, the price and quality are very fair. In the evenings people usually wait in line to get into this wonderful café — but it’s definitely worth it.
From L — Google review
Being lovers of history we really enjoyed visiting this place as it was once the home of the Order of Teutonic Knights, these days a theatre, so worth a visit.
V H — Google review
No beer allowed in the concert, only area in front. Men's toilette is not that good. Dissapointing
Marin S — Google review
Best atmosphere in an old part of Ljubljana. Sound, feelings, vibes, Plečnik's vision always bringing the warmth of memories.
I A — Google review
You will see nothing unless you come to the concert 1 hour in advance to get the front rows, because the viewing levels are 10 cm high. The concert hall has not been remodeled for modern concerts and drinking in the venue is not allowed. I paid 60 EUR for the ticket and I couldn't see the stage from any part. The positive reviews are not realistic.
Mr P — Google review
Križanke was one of my favorite spots in Ljubljana: a beautiful open-air theatre tucked inside a former monastery courtyard. The mix of historic walls, sheltered stage and audience with an overhead cover, and great acoustics made the atmosphere unforgettable, and it’s a perfect place to catch summer concerts or festivals.

Don’t take this wrong. Dvorni has a great wine selection and location. I loved the helpful staff and the atmosphere. But i didn’t really find the food-pairing well, but it could also be for Dvornis long list of tapas-offerings, and that I choose the wrong ones. Also, we never got offered to try the wine before specifically asking for it, which is strange for a wine bar - with so much good from Slovenia.

I have been to this place for several years. Hands down the best wine and tapas bar in Ljubljana. They have a good selection that makes sense, staff is informed and know their wine. So, you can always try interesting wine even without knowing a lot. (Wine tasting with Boris can help :) with that) I feel always welcome and special here. Zoja and Veronika were very kind, friendly and competent. I will continue to come and bring people here. 10/10

Reviews indicated this wine/tapas bar had an excellent selection of wines by the glass. They were spot on and the waiter recommended a couple of dry, bold reds from Slovenia. One was a cab/merlot blend the other a cab. Both were excellent though I chose to have an additional glass of the cab. I had the local specialty Kranjska sausage with mustard and horseradish. It was not so impressive as our guide said it was. This is no fault of the restaurant, I just think I would select a different dish next time. They have a varied and lengthy menu. I have been impressed with the Croatian and Slovenian red wines on this trip. Outdoor seating on this lovely day was a plus.

My Dumplings of Slovenia is a delicious spot to enjoy some traditional Slovenian struklji dumplings. You can choose from savory and sweet fillings, with toppings that range from chocolate to fruits to vegetables and meat - enough for one person! The restaurant itself is located in the Covered Market, under the arcades, perfect for a quick bite.
I visited this lovely restaurant twice—once in the morning and once in the evening—and both times were a real treat. They open early (from 07:30), which made for a peaceful and cozy morning visit. The food was excellent—I especially loved trying the traditional Slovenian dumplings and stew, full of rich, authentic flavors. One of the highlights was the atmosphere—if you enjoy being surrounded by nature, you’ll love it here. Birds were chirping all around, adding a really relaxing and calming vibe.

Good service, was there Sunday, it was packed but they gave me an inside table facing the window and check on me often. They give good recommendations and even can do smaller portion if it’s too much. Savoury struklji was awesome, and barley stew was hearty. Went there again Wednesday and had carnolian sausages and cabbage stew, equally awesome

We came to Ljubljana from Zagreb just for a day trip and chose this place randomly, looking for a meal and a rest from the hot August sun. We were amazed by how delicious the food was. The dumplings were a wonderful surprise, different from the usual Balkan Knedle we knew. The soup was light and refreshing, and their iconic sausage was very tasty without being too salty. The outdoor seating was perfect for us as tourists. We enjoyed our food while watching locals play and pass by. Little birds even came to pick up leftovers from the table and from our fingertips! For an authentic food experience, I highly recommend this place.

The food was delicious and very affordable. I had the lunch menu for just €10, which included chili sin carne and a vegan caprese dumpling — both were great. The location in the city center is lovely, but it’s a popular spot, so I’d recommend going before or after the typical lunch rush to get a table more easily.

We are first time visitors to Ljubljana and Slovenia. Our host recommended this place. We were pleased to be able to taste some 'national dishes'. We wouldn't return for more, though. I was pleasantly surprised by Ajdovimi Zganci. I do not support the translation 'buckwheat spoon bread'. I would describe it 'buckwheat polenta with pork fat'.

A little bit reluctant about sitting here at first as it looked like our local tourist trap. I had to change my mind after giving it a shot. I’ve finally got to try štrukjlji: they have a huge selection of fillings to chose from, both sweet and savoury. Also the soup Pisker iz tržnice was delicious. The place is strategically located in the city center, right at the market area. you can enjoy your meal sitting outside in the sun. We spent in total 11€ (lunch menu price 10am-3pm) which was totally a fair price for the quality and quantity of the food. Shoutout to the staff for the hospitality and service as well. 100% recommend if you’re visiting Ljubljana for the first time (or second, or third..)

Came here to try some Slovenian dishes and we were quite happy. The jota soup, ričet and strukji were delicious. Generous portions. Service was helpful and friendly. Reasonable prices for being the city centre.
Raúl F — Google review
Recommended by the others for their dessert and so I went. Had the chance to order 2, which wasnt a wise choice as it was kinda filling and huge contrary to what the waiter had reassured me that it isnt huge. First was the Vanilla white chocolate dumpling. The white chocolate fudge drizzled on top of the dumpling is warm and delicious. The cake/dumpling does goes well with it. Think of it like a mix of crepes skin with inside u have a chewy texture of a sponge cake mix(?). I would recommend the white chocolate variant, though many reviewers mentioned Cottage Cheese. Next i had was their premium Apple-Poppyseed variant of the dumpling. I for one do not like. It lacks a flavour, apple is minced thst werent very prominent like a typical apple strudel would gives off. It has this poppy seed and top crunch, but still i couldnt grasp the flavour to be of my liking. To each their own, but i wouldnt recommend that.

Absolutely thrilled! Paninoteka in Ljubljana completely blew us away! The food is outstanding, every dish bursting with flavor and made with genuine care. The portions are huge – there’s no chance you’ll leave hungry – and the prices are incredibly affordable for this level of quality. A true hidden gem! We loved it so much that we came back every single day during our vacation. That alone says everything! But what truly made this place unforgettable was the service. I have to give a huge shoutout to the bald waiter with the longer beard and the blonde waitress Rajna – their kindness, warmth and professionalism were on another level! They were exceptionally friendly, helpful and sincerely welcoming, making us feel like VIP guests every time. And the sweetest part? Our son absolutely adored the blonde waitress Rajna – she won his heart instantly with her smile and kindness! 100% recommended! But the real highlight was the service – our waiter, David, was truly amazing! So friendly, professional, and attentive. One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. Can’t wait to come back!

We went on Teden Restavraciji and took the tasting menu. Food was very good, it reminded me of my childhood and home🥹. I loved every dish but the first one (beetroot & horseradish with rye bread) was fantastic. We will definitely come back for a la carte menu.

We had a delightful gourmet lunch at AFTR. Yacob (I’m not sure of the spelling) was our very knowledgeable server with perfect English who explained all the locally sourced spices and elements in each dish. He also recommended a delightful Triton Lex (white blend) wine which paired so nicely with our meal. Highly recommended!

If you realize that chef returned Michelin star, because he wanted to be mire free, you can be sure, you will taste special food. We were here before and we will return again. The only not perfect thing was aperol spritz - no prosecco. Food is perfect, tastes are mixing and creating an ultimate experience in your mouth. Both sea and meat dishes were perfect. We drank a fresh Rebula from Batic. Excellent, too. A must visit if you like great food. Price - cca 70€ per person

We had a great dinner, the idea is share a few different dishes, which were all great. Cannot forget the amazing olives served with mortadella and the homemade focaccia. There is great selection of wine and cocktails. The service was nice too.

Sure! Here’s a concise, friendly version tailored for a Google review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Had a great experience at Aftr! The food was simple, fresh and full of flavor. Our highlighs were the squid, lamb and amazing potatoes fried in dry aged beef fat with kajmak. Our waiter, David, was fantastic. Super friendly and gave great recommendations. The vibe is cozy and welcoming. Definitely coming back, and highly recommend it if you're in the area!

Loved AFTR! Amazing food, great wine, and super friendly staff. The bread, charcuterie, and beef tartare were all fantastic. Cozy vibe and perfect for a night out with friends. Can’t wait to come back!

I was trying some sweets in Slovenia and this place probably has the best tiramisu I've ever tried. The drinks and food were very good. I recommend this place in Ljubljana.

Restaurant
Restavracija Shambala, located on Krizevniska ulica, is a charming spot with a beautiful garden that attracts both locals and tourists. The restaurant offers a diverse selection of Asian cuisine, including Vietnamese spring rolls, coconut milk ceviche, Balinese chicken with lemongrass, teriyaki sauce, and more. The ambiance reflects the meaning of 'Shambala' - peace and tranquility.
I had a chance to try their fix menu during the restaurant week in Slovenia. The waiters are quite professional. I liked the food but hummus was sooo tiny, it was a bit hard to get the taste :) Kimchi miso soup with dried shiitake mushrooms was my favorite! I would love to go back to try their á la carte next time.

We came to Shambala tasting their food in the food market on Friday. The fried king prawns with mango sauce and the beef were amazing. We ordered prawns when we came to the restaurant but this time the Singaporean prawns, mango salad and duck breast. And coconut pana cotta for dessert. All the food were good except the Singaporean prawns. It was so salty that I was unable to eat the gravy. I tried to pad dry the prawns to get rid of the excessive salty gravy and eat it by rubbing them with the rice. When we asked the staff, they said it might be a different fish sauce (which they sourced) had more salt than usual and just said sorry. We expected that they could have asked for making the dish again. In hindsight I should've sent it back immediately. So this 3 star for food is for that. Though they offered a 10% discount at the end which was very nice of them. But it's not about money, it's indeed about expectation on the experience. Otherwise the other items, the staff behaviour, was really good.

Great place in center of Ljubljana. Fantastic atmosphere with very kind staff. Food was delicious and fast served. Great wine and heck of a good 🇯🇵 whiskey. Prices are little bit too high but never mind. We like it. Toilets were nice and clean. The whole place was very clean. Best regards.

Had a wonderful dinner here tonight. We were greeted with great service. Noticed all the staff speaking with diners and explaining the food, the wine and history of the restaurant. We ordered the Prawns in Singapore sauce and the lemongrass chicken. Both were superb. Portions were a good size and price is right for the portions and quality.

Cosy place with asian fusion flair but nothing beyond. Portions are sumptuous and atmosphere peaceful and calm, especially between lunch time and dinner.

Very pleasant restaurant, with a variety of food options. We had the chance to try the mixed tasting platter before our main course, and everyone was delighted.
Deniz M — Google review
The place is not very atmospheric, but with good service. The dishes have nothing to do with Asian cuisine. The food isn't spicy, but that's not the point. Everything we ordered doesn't match the taste and cooking of Asian cuisine at all. How this restaurant gets Michelin stars is a mystery.

Ambience very nice, especially garden - you can hear traffic but no big deal. Food very tasty (not cheap, but like it), staff very nice as well!
