Ljubljana Castle, a medieval fortress towering over the townhouses below, offers a captivating journey through history and culture. Visitors can ascend to the castle via a glass cube and explore its first-rate museums, including the Virtual Castle showcasing its development, an exhibition on Slovene history with insights into socialist Yugoslavia and the Ten-Day War, and the Museum of Puppetry. The stocky Clock Tower provides unparalleled views of the old town and distant Kamniske Alps.
Go as easily as possible to skip the crowds. We bought tickets at the entrance and arrive at 9:30am to no queues or crowds. Great views of the city. The history is castle is available in multiple languages across the various rooms. Definitely a good place to visit.
Petra P — Google review
Great castle experience! The funicular ride up is convenient and fun. Lots to explore once you’re there, with something for everyone. The puppet museum was a fantastic surprise - definitely don’t miss it. Highly recommended! The view from the clock tower is amazing.
Giacomo B — Google review
I'm disappointed. It's not worth the 15 euros. The only thing you have to pay for is to climb the flag tower. All the exhibition halls contain mostly textual information that can be found on Wikipedia. So, essentially, you can come here for free, stroll around the castle square without a ticket, and enjoy the tour. The castle grounds are also beautiful. I recommend walking up the hill instead of taking the funicular. It's a good workout! And be prepared to pay for the restrooms, even if you have a ticket. Overall, it's worth a visit, but without buying a ticket.
Roman B — Google review
The history of a fortess on this site go back to the 11th century but the castle that stands here today was built under Frederick III of Habsburg as a stronghold against the Ottoman Empire. The beautiful decorated St George's Chapel dates from this time. It was extensively renovated over decades using lots of concrete as you can see all around. There is not much to be seen of the old csstle. Left and right were some interesting details like the old prison and the small armoury. When you climb the tower via the double red winding stairs you get a nice view over the city. Entry to the castle is easiest with the funicular which is included in the ticket price.
Seimen B — Google review
Easy to get to ...funicular is a 1 minute ride. Castle is now theater. galleries, museum, restaurant plus the castle itself with nice viewing tower. Area of improvement is the signage. As the signs were not clear I just couldn't find the puppet museum which was the main reason of my visit.
John C — Google review
there’s a great view from the top and walking up there doesn’t take a lot of time and it’s not that hard. the place could be pretty crowded but you can always take a walk around the surroundings and enjoy the nature. be careful if you walk down though! it’s very steep
Hamy N — Google review
Nice castle and grounds. The views from the tower are phenomenal! I highly recommend buying ticket online so you can get a 10% discount instead of buying at the castle. There's no timed entry so you can buy the tickets just before you go. We walked up hill, didn't use the funicular going up or down. I got the basic ticket that included the museum of puppetry, art exhibition, video mapping (immersion impressionist art), and the 3D movie about the castle. The only part I disliked that they charge to use the toilets, which was a bit much. You already pay for the ticket so why should you pay to use the restroom, just include the price in the ticket.
Amy P — Google review
A visit to Ljubljana isn't complete without a visit to the castle overlooking the city. We chose to walk up the hill from the South side, a path that takes you through some lovely viewing points and charming, narrow alleys. We'd highly recommend this scenic route, but if the walk is challenging, there's also a funicular that whisks you up the hill. The castle itself, with the exception of the tower, wasn't quite what I expected. Much of it has been renovated in a modern style, and the central courtyard felt rather busy and hectic. However, the panoramic views from the castle over the city are absolutely worth the climb! You can descend back into the city via a path to the North, which brings you out near the puppet theatre, or simply take the funicular back down.

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
Dragon Bridge, also known as Zmajski Most, is a pedestrian-friendly art nouveau bridge in Ljubljana, built in 1900. It is famous for its series of dragon statues that guard either side of the bridge and smaller griffins adorning its lamp posts. The bridge spans the Ljublanica river and is a popular spot for tourists to take photos due to its remarkable dragon sculptures modeled after the city's coat of arms.
We loved visiting Ljubljana and seeing the Dragon Bridge. Such a wide variety of things to do and see. Highly recommend the City Hotel and we enjoyed dining at Most restaurant.
Steve F — Google review
Ljubljana's Dragon Bridge in Slovenia is an iconic representation of Art Nouveau architecture, drawing visitors from far and wide. The bridge's four imposing dragon statues, one at each corner, command attention. Strategically located in Ljubljana's historic center, the bridge crosses the Ljubljanica River, facilitating social exchange. Fascinating local myths surround the bridge and its dragons, such as the story that the dragons acknowledge a virgin's crossing with a subtle movement. The concrete bridge has earned the colloquial nickname 'mother-in-law' from some locals, who find the dragons' fiery demeanor both captivating and intimidating. The Dragon Bridge, a masterpiece designed by Slovenian Jurij Zaninovic, stands as a testament to the city's resilience. This stunning Art Nouveau bridge was dedicated to the 40th anniversary of Hapsburg Emperor Franz Josef's reign, with the dates 1848-1888 elegantly inscribed on its side. A symbol of hope and renewal, the bridge honors the emperor's contributions to the city's revitalization after the devastating 1895 earthquake. Conveniently located, the bridge is within walking distance of iconic landmarks like Ljubljana Cathedral, Ljubljana Castle, and the vibrant Ljubljana Central Market.
C K — Google review
The Dragon Bridge in Ljubljana is one of the city's most iconic landmarks, symbolizing Ljubljana's identity. It is located in Ljubljana's city center over the Ljubljanica River. The bridge is famous for its four large bronze dragon statues—two at each end—and sixteen smaller dragons decorating the bridge's span.
Kevin A — Google review
Nothing too special on its own, but the dragon statues are iconic and symbolic to Ljubljana. Definitely worth a quick stop and a photo if you’re exploring the city.
J — Google review
Impressive dragons decorate this Art Nouveau bridge that was built between 1900 and 1901 and the first with a reinforced concrete structure in town. The story goes that the dragons are tied to the Greek myth of Jason and the Argonauts, who are said to have founded Ljubljana and slain a dragon nearby.
Seimen B — Google review
It's a bridge with Dragons on it. We counted at least 20. Good place for a photo. Some people may say its crowded but I'd say it has atmosphere with people stopping to take photographs or passing by as they head to the nearby cafes and restaurants.
Bhoy 6 — Google review
It’s one of the iconic landmark of the city of Ljubljana, you’ll see many souvenir shops selling dragon theme fridge magnets based on the dragon statues on all 4 corners of this bridge.
Subhash S — Google review
Nice bridge for short walk to other side of river in the Old Town of Ljubljana. Can also be seen from the river on a boat excursion. The internet can tell you about how the dragon came to be seen as protector of the city

Art center
Neighborhoods
AKC Metelkova mesto is a vibrant urban hub that showcases Ljubljana's underground culture through its diverse range of artistic events, music performances, and theater shows. Originally a squat, it has evolved into a renowned center for independent artistic expression in Europe. The complex houses numerous clubs where locals gather to enjoy live concerts, DJ nights, LGBTQ events, and affordable drinks until the early hours of the morning.
Amazing graffiti space. If you want to see something really different from most sightseeing places, come here - surely during the day if you want to see the colourful graffiti all around the place. If you feel uncomfortable with the smell of weed and some strange stares at you, definitely don't come here in the evening :)
Лъчезар А — Google review
1 | A somewhat unusual spot that serves as a hub for alternative art. It’s free to visit, photogenic, and located just an 8-minute walk from Ljubljana’s main train station. 2 | On the flip side – the area is full of rather odd people, and some seemed like they might be under the influence of mysterious substances. A few of them stared at me in a strange way. Much of the “art” here consists of political slogans. 3 | I wouldn’t recommend visiting this squat after dark, especially for women or those less adventurous.
Petr N — Google review
Very cute art on the buildings but during the day you don’t quite know what to do there. There are no food trucks, concept stores or stands. There’s a couple of bars with sketchy looking zonked people staring into space, didn’t really feel inviting to walk in and have a glass. I went there once at 3 pm and once at 7 pm, both gave me the same impression. A little dilapidated and not too intuitive for the newcomers.
Alya B — Google review
Is a worth visiting place if you like an urban vibe with graffiti’s and art around. However , you MUST consider that the crowd around the place will make you feel extremely unsafe. I went during the day and stayed like five minutes as I had to almost run as a strange dude was following me for a long period of time.
Juan O — Google review
Cool location with a lot of alternative art and music. A bit more...orderly? than some of the similar places in Europe. Not quite as good as NL or Denmark but close and has a similar rule about photos of people. Police are stationed nearby in a car and lots of smoke about.
Martin ( — Google review
It's further away from the city center, with many interesting installations and weird/quirky people. Impressive graffiti.
Csaba V — Google review
I'm not really sure what to make of this place. Yes, there is a lot of pretty cool graffiti and sculptures but it felt uncomfortable and odd walking around here. When we were here there were groups of people who were obviously under the influence of substances and drink. Not sure it's somewhere to visit at night. I know this place used to be barracks and now it's an alternative and subculture space but I need someone to explain this area to me as I don't quite understand it. Didn't spend all that long here as it just felt odd and uncomfortable.

Flea & Street Markets
The Central Market, also known as Plecniks Covered Market, is a lively marketplace in Ljubljana. It features both indoor and outdoor sections where vendors sell a variety of products including fruits, vegetables, meat, cheese, and hot prepared food.
Ljubljana's outdoor market, also known as the Central Market, is a vibrant and historic marketplace located in the heart of the city. It's a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Ljubljana, offering a wide variety of fresh produce, local specialties, and artisanal goods.
Playmo B — Google review
Little local market. Fresh local fruits and vegetables. Also, natural honey from real bees keepers.
Habib — Google review
A Lively Market – Perfect for a Morning Stroll Ljubljana’s Central Market is a vibrant and colorful spot, ideal for a morning walk. You’ll find a lovely selection of fresh produce, mainly fruits and vegetables, along with clothing and accessories, as you’d expect from a traditional open-air market. Beautifully located at the foot of the castle, the market makes for a very pleasant stroll. It’s easy to combine your visit with a stop at the Dragon Bridge, or even to leave a love lock on the Butcher’s Bridge, a romantic local tradition. Beyond the usual stalls, the market also features artisan and tourist products, such as magnets, t-shirts, and handmade souvenirs. There’s also a wide range of food stalls, ideal for tasting Slovenian dishes or grabbing a quick bite. 👉 A must-see spot to soak up the local atmosphere in a charming setting full of flavors, culture, and life.
Axelle C — Google review
It is biggest old market in old center of Ljubljana. It is also historical landmark, work of famous architect Jože Plečnik in years between 1931 and 1939. This place has long and rich history. Anyway, people meet here every day for buying vegetables, fruits, meat, fish and other food, for lunch and other public events. You can buy fresh vegetables and fruit from local farmers in Slovenia. What is special about this place is that it didn't change so much in all this time and it stays legendary as it always was. It is Slovenian culture monunent and still serves for everyday market. During the summer there is also opportunity for free dance events with course. If you are here today, you have luck because you see old legendary market. The mayor wants to renovate it and consequently some legendary things will be lost...
Peter K — Google review
Nice place most were fresh and tasty
Al ( — Google review
The main market square with a great food market, which is 4 stars, unfortunately many of the Chinese useless shops are also there to lure the tourists. The market place itself thou has a nice atmosphere.
Ole K — Google review
The Central Market in Ljubljana is a must-visit for anyone interested in experiencing the local culture and cuisine. This vibrant market is located in the heart of the city, and it is open every day from morning to evening. The market is divided into two main areas: the covered market and the open-air market. The covered market is home to a variety of stalls selling fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, and other produce. The open-air market is a bit more eclectic, and you can find everything from souvenirs to flowers to street food here. One of the best things about the Central Market is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The vendors are always happy to chat with customers, and they are always willing to give recommendations. You can also find some great bargains at the market, especially if you are willing to haggle. In addition to fresh produce, the Central Market is also a great place to find traditional Slovenian food. There are several stalls selling sausages, cured meats, and other delicacies. You can also find freshly baked bread, pastries, and cakes. If you are looking for a unique and authentic experience in Ljubljana, then the Central Market is a must-visit. It is a great place to wander around, people-watch, and sample some of the local food. Here are some specific things that I liked about the Central Market: * The fresh produce was of excellent quality and very reasonably priced. * The vendors were friendly and helpful. * There was a wide variety of products to choose from, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, and souvenirs. * The market was clean and well-organized. * It was a great place to people-watch and experience the local culture. Overall, I had a very positive experience at the Central Market in Ljubljana. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city.
Zlatko M — Google review
This is a place where time stands still. Local farmer’s market blended with a flee market and a regular shopping mall. Ljubljana does not disappoint with their market square. From new shoes to cabbage, you will probably find it here. I stopped by on a lazy winter Friday after exploring the nearby Ljubljana Castle.

Nature & Parks
Parks
Tivoli Park is Ljubljana's largest park, covering 5 square kilometers of formal gardens, paved paths, and grassy picnic areas. Nestled just northwest of the city center, this expansive green space offers a serene escape with lush forestry and gardens. Visitors can also explore attractions like the zoo and the International Centre for Graphic Arts, which features rotating exhibitions and a cafe with delectable ice cream.
Large green space in the center of Ljubljana, filled with beautiful trees and a small amount of plantings. Glass house is available to wonder near with a lake close by. Swans with Cygnets and ducks with babies swim around the lake offering a place to rest and enjoy the views. Highly recommend.
Jamie W — Google review
Loved it - what a beautiful green naturally forested spaces in between- natural materials of wood and tires used in the playground for kids… loved our morning here…. 🌴🪾🌳🌲
Amritha S — Google review
A lovely park, a bit too few shadowy spots available and there could have been more maps around. Otherwise I recommend going there to see swans and walk between huge trees and vast grass areas.
Lili Y — Google review
A must visit. Very beautiful, large, well maintained, with lots of pedestrian and cycling paths. Good washroom and beautiful art in the cafe. A highlight of Ljubljana and easy to get to.
Dany G — Google review
A beautiful, peaceful, and very well-maintained park right in the heart of Ljubljana. You can immediately feel the calm atmosphere — everything is clean, the paths are tidy, and the green areas are well cared for. It’s perfect for a relaxing walk, a bike ride, or just sitting on a bench and enjoying nature. The park is huge and offers something for everyone: open meadows, shaded tree-lined paths, playgrounds for kids, ponds with ducks, and even small art exhibitions along the walkways. There’s also a cozy café where you can grab a coffee or ice cream and simply unwind. What’s great is that despite being so big, it’s right in the city center — yet it feels peaceful and far away from the urban noise. Everything feels safe, clean, and family-friendly. One of the most beautiful places in Ljubljana to relax, recharge, and enjoy nature. Highly recommended, whether you’re alone, with friends, or with your family.
Andre B — Google review
Beautiful park to walk through in Ljubljana. Just watch out for the falling horse chestnuts haha. The park has lots of green space, parks for kids, skate parks, a mini golf cafe and so much more.
Ryan B — Google review
Tivoli Park & Rožnik Hill – A Breath of Fresh Air in the Heart of Ljubljana Tivoli Park and Rožnik Hill are true gems nestled right in the center of Ljubljana – a perfect escape from the city buzz without ever really leaving it. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this green oasis offers everything you could want from an urban park and forest: beautiful walking paths, cycling trails, shaded spots for a picnic, and scenic routes for jogging or hiking. It’s the lungs of the city, and you feel it the moment you step under the trees – cleaner air, cooler temperatures, and the calming sound of birds instead of traffic. One of the best things about Rožnik is its accessibility. Within minutes, you can go from the city center to feeling like you’re in the middle of the countryside. It’s a favorite spot for weekend walks, morning runs, or simply clearing your head. At the top of Rožnik Hill, the local inn (Gostilna Rožnik) has been making a comeback. While it had seen better days, it’s slowly improving, both in terms of its menu and service. You’ll find a more curated selection of Slovenian dishes, better coffee, and a generally more inviting atmosphere than in years past. It’s a welcome place to sit down and recharge after the climb, especially on a sunny day. All in all, Tivoli and Rožnik are must-visits if you want to see where Ljubljana truly breathes – not just nature-wise, but culturally too. It’s where locals go to stay grounded, active, and connected to the city’s green soul.

Neboticnik - Skyscraper is a historic high-rise building in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Constructed in 1933, it was one of the tallest buildings in Europe at that time and boasts architectural significance from the interwar period. The building houses shops, offices, private flats, and a renowned restaurant with a roof terrace called Neboticnik Cafe. This cafe offers stunning panoramic views of Ljubljana from its vantage point atop the skyscraper.
Great place for cozy drinks with a view you won’t forget. From the terrace you can see the whole old city and the Ljubljana Castle right in front of you. Perfect spot to sip a drink during sunset or at night when the city lights up. The atmosphere is calm and elegant, and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. A must-visit when in Ljubljana.
Despina L — Google review
Views upon sunset are worth it. Service is fast and amicable. The building has important history. BUT the 12th floor could be in much better condition. Glasses are stained, smell (inside) is disgusting and furniture could be better. Still, recommendable.
Mauricio M — Google review
The view could be great but at this moment there will be a huge crane in the middle of your photograph of the castle with below the old city. On the bright side service of my wine was fast and wine was very drinkable At the elevator at the ground floor there is now a sign “no free pictures only when you order drinks or food”.
Annelie H — Google review
Nice rooftop bar to watch the sunset, with great views of the city. Staff were nice and helpful. Service was a little slow when we visited, but this was most likely due to the time of day, as it was very busy. We were lucky to get a table, a party was departing as we arrived. My first choice of drink was unavailable as a key ingredient was missing, but there were plenty of other delicious drinks to choose from.😋 My only suggestion to the owners/staff would be to clean the glass/Perspex surrounding the perimeter walls of the roof terrace as they are dirty, and spoil photos if you are unable to rise/hold camera above it to take great photos. It's definitely worth a visit!
A B — Google review
From the outside the building is just a square block. But the spiral staircase inside is very interesting. You can only walk up to the 10th floor. To go to restaurant and terrace on 10, 11, 12th floor, can only take the elevator. View from the terrace certainly is gorgeous.
Connie W — Google review
The view was good, if you want to visit the skyscraper and take pictures is ok if you order from the bar in the last floor from what we understand. The drink i ordered was nothing special but i recommend to go for the view 🏙

1 | Nebotičnik is a historic 70-metre-tall high-rise in the heart of Ljubljana, completed in 1933 and once one of the tallest buildings in Europe. Its top-floor café and viewing terrace offer panoramic views over the city, the rooftops, and the nearby hills, accessible via its original Art Deco elevator. 2 | I was surprised that the "skyscraper" wasn’t as tall as I expected. It’s actually pretty easy to miss from the street — for reference, it’s located right next to the Cyanometer attraction. 3 | On the rooftop, there’s a café with a stunning view of the entire area. The tables are set on an outdoor terrace that offers a full 360° panorama. You can visit without paying an entrance fee — you just need to order something at the café. 4 | Prices at the café were surprisingly reasonable (as of July 2025). An espresso costs 2.70 euros, a cappuccino is 3.10 euros, and a Union beer is 4.70 euros. They also serve toast and sandwiches. 5 | Card payment is accepted. What disappointed me was the very slow service — we were ignored for several minutes. 6 | The interior of the skyscraper reflects the era it was built in, with no major renovations. Worth noting are the vintage elevator and the spiral staircase located on the ground floor right next to it. 7 | I recommend visiting the rooftop café at sunset. It can get crowded, but the view is unforgettable. On a clear day, you can see the mountains beyond the city from Nebotičnik.

An ok location but with some problems: -Dirty windows blocking the view, sitting in this restaurant doesnt matter becouse you cant see the view anyway becouse of the dirtyness. -Prices are high. -Customer service just stands in a group and talks, doesnt really look like they wanna help you at all. -But the worst of all, our drink had alot of Ice, it was almost no drink at all. Will not return here...

Prešeren Square is a bustling pedestrian hub and popular meeting place in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It holds historical significance as it was once the meeting point for several roads and an old entrance gate to the city. Named after Slovenia's national poet France Prešeren, the square features a large statue of him and hosts concerts and events during the summer.
Beautiful main square of the city centre. Truly enjoyed the bridges and the wonderful art installation of rain. Bustling with people but a lovely atmosphere. Try to get yourself a free walking tour to explain further the importance of the square and the history behind it.

This is a charming square that is the starting point for all the streets and alleys of the old city. There are lots of charming restaurants around with a relaxed atmosphere along the banks of the river. The beauty and cultural richness are evident from every angle. It's fun to wander and get lost here.
Charlie B — Google review
One of the most beautiful old town squares where multiple streets end here. You can follow those streets to find nice restaurants, cafés, local market, boat trips by the river, and more. Or just enjoy the walking among beautiful buildings and tiny alleyways.

Prešeren Square is one of the most beautiful and lively places in Ljubljana. It’s surrounded by charming architecture and connected to the famous Triple Bridge (Tromostovje), which adds a unique and picturesque touch to the area. The square is impressively clean and well-maintained, making it a pleasant spot for a walk or a break. There are many cozy cafes around where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. The place is always full of life, with both locals and tourists passing by, which gives it a special, dynamic energy. Definitely a must-visit when in Slovenia!
Anđelka J — Google review
1 | Prešernov trg is the central square of Ljubljana, named after the Slovenian national poet France Prešeren, whose statue stands at its center. Surrounded by important landmarks like the Franciscan Church and Triple Bridge, the square is a key meeting point and pedestrian hub in the city. 2 | A unique attraction in the square is "The Area with Ljubljana's Own Weather." It’s a spot in the middle of the round square where it’s always raining, and there’s even a traffic sign warning you about it. There aren’t many trees or shade in the square, so it gets really hot in the summer. The city addressed this by installing a water mist system. One of the artists then placed a traffic sign next to the wet pavement featuring an umbrella and a cloud. 3 | The square also features the Statue of France Prešeren, a Slovenian poet who stirred quite a bit of controversy in the first half of the 19th century. The statue itself has also been controversial, as it includes a depiction of a bare female chest. This is visible from the church in the square, which didn’t sit well with church officials. 4 | The square is definitely worth a visit — if you’re staying in Ljubljana for a few days, you’ll likely pass through it more than once. On summer evenings, you’ll often see street performers there, and the most popular one is the guy with the giant soap bubbles.

Plaza Prešeren is the vibrant heart of Ljubljana, always buzzing with life. Surrounded by elegant architecture, lively cafés, and the iconic pink Franciscan Church, it’s a perfect spot to soak up the city’s charm. Street performers, locals, and travelers mingle here, making it both a meeting point and a cultural hub. From the square, you can easily wander into the old town or cross the Triple Bridge. A must-visit for its energy, beauty, and central role in Ljubljana’s daily rhythm.
Dani B — Google review
Prešeren Square is the lively heart of Ljubljana, where history, architecture, and local life meet. Surrounded by landmarks like the pink Franciscan Church, the statue of France Prešeren, and Plečnik’s Triple Bridge, it’s the perfect place to start exploring. Just a short walk away is the iconic Dragon Bridge, guarded by Ljubljana’s famous green dragons. During summer, every Friday, the center comes alive with Odprta kuhna (Open Kitchen) — a vibrant open-air food market offering dishes from all over the world. In the mornings, you’ll also find fresh local fruits and vegetables for sale at the nearby central market, making it a great stop for food lovers and casual wanderers alike.

Nestled in a charming 18th-century mansion, the National Museum of Contemporary History is a treasure trove for anyone eager to delve into Slovenia's rich past. This captivating museum chronicles the nation's journey from World War I through to its EU presidency in 2008, showcasing an array of exhibits that include vintage photographs, clothing, and household artifacts. Visitors can explore how Slovenia navigated the tumultuous waters between two world wars and experienced transformative post-war years under communism.
This museum explores Slovenia’s modern and contemporary history, focusing on the 20th century to the present and the country's social and political transformations. It was founded in 1948 under the name Revolution Museum, and is housed in Cekin Mansion (Cekinov grad), an elegant 18th-century aristocratic residence. Visitors can visually trace the evolution of Slovenian national identity, civil society, and the development of democracy.

Amazing museum that covers the history of Slovenia in XX century. There is a lot of information and is well organized, sometimes with creative displays, all for only 6€ is definitely worth it. I expected to see it in less than two hours, but if you're interested in reading everything you could easily spend a full afternoon here, so unfortunately I had to see the last part in a rush because it was about to close. If I will ever be back in Ljubljana I will definitely visit again, with better timing this time 😅 Only problem I found is that many objects are displayed together in the same showcase and the description doesn't follow any specific order so it becomes tricky to understand what object you're reading about, but other than that, all good.
Sara ( — Google review
It's a very interesting museum about the history of Slovenia in the 20th century. With the permanent exhibition you can see how Slovenia went throughout the past century starting from Austro-Hungarian empire, following by the period of the kingdom of Yugoslavia, WW2 and German/Italian occupations, Tito's Yugoslavia and finishing with the most recent history of its independence. The displays are very informative and interesting to read. The exhibits displayed in the museum are very impressive and allow you better immerse into the time periods. Highly recommended if you are interested to learn about the history of Slovenia.

i would recommend you to visit this museum. the price of the ticket is quite cheap and they have very good exhibitions. we came for the Olympics game 1984 in Sarajevo exhibition but we saw all of them.

Excellent! Definitely suggest an hour or 90 minutes here. It’s great because it focuses on one topic through a short period of time - WW1 to EU joining for Slovenia so doesn’t outstay its welcome and is well presented. Great info about a history I wasn’t too familiar with.
Suitcase M — Google review

Francesco C — Google review
This is quite a fascinating museum if you have time to study, read, and contemplate. It is not a museum you can bustle through in 30 minutes. We spent a good two hours but we learned so much about what happened in Slovenia from War War I forward. The displays are written in English. There is seating throughout and the restroom is clean. We walked through Trivoli Park to arrive at the Palace where the museum is located. It was a fine way to cool off and wasn’t crowded. We also received Pensioner discounts. Recommend if you are interested in history. Not really a place small children would enjoy I’m my opinion. So be prepared to navigate stairs.
Betta R — Google review
As the museum covers the period from World War I to Slovenia’s EU entry, 1914-2004, it’s a lot of action crammed into one floor. They have an incredible amount of material on display that can get a bit overwhelming. I skipped the period of the first Yugoslav kingdom as well as the EU entry and still spent almost two hours there. My favourite parts were the section on WWI (with reconstructed trenches), and the partisan resistance to the Nazi occupation. Very touching objects made by concentration camp prisoners. The section about Yugoslavia under/after Tito was a bit too crammed for me, with so many topics on so little space you can only touch the surface. Still, it was a good way to learn about Slovenian history. Some English texts I didn’t understand, might benefit from a professional language editing for accessibility. Definitely recommended, but I would advise to pick a few aspects to concentrate on, or you might get overwhelmed. I don’t know how other commenters could ingest all that content in one hour.

Step into the world of optical illusions and mind-bending installations at the House of Illusions. This 2-story museum offers a collection of creative illusions, including whole rooms designed to deceive your eyes and brain. Perfect for groups, bring along family, friends, or colleagues for an hour or two of fun exploring three floors filled with visual tricks. Test your skills in the games room with mind-bending puzzles available for purchase.
I thought this would be a bit of a waste of money and a bit twee but it's actually really fun. Some of the illusions you'll have seen before but a lot you won't have and some are really funny/engaging. The upside down room photos are fun in particular The best thing is the staff who are really enthusiastic and without them this place wouldn't be nearly as good. Be aware it is quite small so you'll have to wait 1 in 1 out at busy times. The moving (not moving) walkway is quite nausea inducing so don't drink too much slush before going in it

A lovely family program for a rainy day in Ljubljana. The museum has a good collection of visual illusions, lots of interactive and funny activities. It is enjoyable both for children and adults. The athmosphere is friendly and creative (don't miss the disco in the toilet🤩). Uau, what a great place to step back from busy world. It is great place not only for children but also adults can enjoy it! The staff is super friendly and they make the atmosphere even more relaxed. The illusions are funny and there are descriptions for each in different languages. I visited the place with my freshly 8year old and we enjoyed it both! I highly recommend the visit for all, big and small, to share an hour of fun and relaxation and to get the touch of the world of illusion. Five stars and we will definitely come back again.

The Franciscan Church of the Annunciation, a 17th-century landmark in Ljubljana, is known for its striking pink facade and ornate interior adorned with ceiling frescoes. Situated on Preseren Square near the Ljubljanica river, this grand Baroque church stands out with its salmon-pink exterior and two bell towers. It competes for attention with other iconic sights like Zmajski Most and the Triple Bridge.
It is a beautiful church, the color so vibrant, making a statement at the center on Ljubljana, any house of worship is always highly recommended!

The Franciscan Church of the Annunciation in Ljubljana is a stunning pink landmark in Prešeren Square. Its Baroque interior features beautiful frescoes, a grand altar, and a peaceful atmosphere. The church’s library, with rare books, is accessible after buying a ticket. It’s a quick visit, about 15-30 minutes, perfect for soaking in history and art.
Ramdas P — Google review
One of the two most remarkable churces in the capital. The church is entered through the monastery to the left of it. You need to pay for a visit. Nice baroque interior with not so nice post baroque frescoes. You can buy the combined ticket also for a small museum which is a bit hard to find. You need to go through the courtyard, ring the bell and go to the first floor - not a good navigation! This museum is very small but you can see some remarkable paintings and renovated francsican library.

Beautiful and iconic church in the very heart of Ljubljana. The Franciscan Church of the Annunciation with its striking red façade is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. The interior is peaceful and elegant, with beautiful frescoes and a serene atmosphere. Located right on Prešeren Square, it’s easy to visit while exploring the old town. A must-see spot for anyone visiting Ljubljana — perfect for photos and a quiet moment of reflection.

The beautiful, Baroque salmon-colored Church of the Annunciation is the Franciscan church in Ljubljana, built in 1646. Located on Central Prešeren Square, it is attached to a 13th century monastery.

Beautiful pink church which is an outcome of the fading of the originally red paint, interesting. There’s an entrance fee and the to enter you have to go to the left side of the main entrance, there’s a door.
J — Google review
I was here on Christmas Eve and it has a wonderful Nativity scene inside at the altar. It is so detailed and sophisticated, it has so many little figures! The scene even has a little fountain and a bonfire in it. I loved that the church was so welcoming, there were a lot of children around the scene with parents teaching them on the meaning of it. That's what the Christmas is all about! To compare: another church in the nearby - the Saint Nicholas church - at the same Christmas Eve was so unfriendly, there was a festive service with the organ but the church was empty because the doors were closed and they put a sign for tourists to stay away. This Franciscan church was not like that and I'm grateful for their warm hospitality!
Oksana A — Google review
The Franciscan Church is hard to miss, with its stunning pink façade that stands out from various angles across Prešeren Square. It’s one of the most iconic buildings in Ljubljana and offers a beautiful mix of Baroque architecture and a peaceful atmosphere. Even if you’re not religious, the interior is worth stepping into, with its impressive artwork and serene vibe. I found it to be a great spot to pause during my day of exploring. It's not overly crowded, and the soft light coming through the stained glass windows gives it a calming feel. There's also a small shop where you can purchase religious items, adding a little extra to the experience. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful moment or just admiring the building’s beauty, it’s a lovely place to visit.

Ljubljana Zoo is a compact city zoo located on the southern slope of the Roznik Hill, surrounded by woods and meadows. It's an ideal destination for a family outing, offering a children's playground, special events, and an on-site eatery. The zoo houses a diverse range of animals including birds, wild animals, and predatory species. Despite its smaller size, it offers pleasant surroundings for leisurely walks amidst rich flora and fauna.
We had the most incredible day at the zoo! ❤️ It was such a beautiful space, filled with shade, perfect for a warm day of adventure. With 6.5 km of stunning trails to explore, every step was a delight! To top it all off, we celebrated the elephant's 50th birthday! 🎉 Everyone was treated to free ice cream and delicious Indian desserts, which made the experience even sweeter. The zoo staff were super friendly, adding to the festive atmosphere. What an unforgettable day!

A lovely natural park type zoo, the perfect place to spend a few hours on a hot day as there is lots of shade. There's lots of free parking outside as well, which is great. The animals mostly seem well cared for and happy, with large natural enclosures. There are lots of playgrounds for children as well, the frog leap playground is especially cool. The ticket price is quite good, but inside the prices for food and drinks is crazy - €3.80 for a Pepsi!!
Mike — Google review
One of the best Zoo I've been! Very kids orientated place, even if you do not prefer Zoo's, it's great place to bring kids, walk through park, clean air, let kids play around with plenty of playgrounds. As for animals, this is more like nature park, it's very nice and a lot of space and nature habbit for animals
Djordje M — Google review
Beautiful zoo! We saw all the animals (even the tiger, who was napping in a shade) except for the capybaras, which were hiding from the sun. It really does feel more like a stroll through a forest than a zoo visit, which just makes it even better. We spent close to 4 hours there. Some of the enclosures seemed a bit small, for example the seals, some of the bird cages and the elephant who seemed a bit lonely and bored. On the other hand, other animals' enclosures were huge and going through them felt more like walking through a reservation.
Matej M — Google review
A really nice experience at Ljubljana Zoo. It’s easy to get there via a single bus trip from the city center. The animals are generally well located and preserved. There is a small hill in the zoo, which creates a natural habitat for wild animals such as wild cats and birds. The elephant place is not big enough and it can be better if more space is available.
Sihang L — Google review
The Ljubljana Zoo is a great place to visit, especially for kids. They have a variety of animals, including an elephant and a giraffe, among others. More and more, people are questioning the ethics of zoos because animals are often kept in limited enclosures. However, it's also true that many species have been saved from extinction thanks to the conservation efforts of zoos.
Slava O — Google review
We were wandering through the park with no real plans and ended up here at the zoo and were so pleasantly surprised! This zoo is incredible. It's so large and has everything you could think of. Most recent f the enclosures were large and had great space. We thought the ticket and food prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend

A very beautiful Zoo. beautifully made and arranged. The location is in a forest with a hill. So you have to go up and down. A few minuses observed (August 15, 2025) is the advanced state of degradation of the wooden furniture in all the exhibition areas. It definitely needs to be repaired.. some of the floors and areas are quite damaged. The parking lot ... fills you and your car with dust. The garden is not very big..but it is ok.

The Slovene Ethnographic Museum is a significant cultural institution that showcases the rich history of Slovenia and various other cultures. Established in 1923, it houses a diverse collection of artifacts related to Slovenian material, social, and spiritual culture. The museum's location in the urban cultural center of Ljubljana adds to its appeal as a hub for dialogue and exploration.
I had a lovely couple of hours browsing through this museum. Starting at the top level, you work your way down a number of exhibitions and artefacts on display with through provoking reflections to ponder on this journey. I notice the Australian population figures are about 10 million people less than they currently are but I was happy that AUS even had a place in this museum. I learned a lot about Slovenian history, culture and ways of living. There’s also a spectacular display of Chinese and Japanese artefacts on the bottom floor with a rich history behind its precious owners
David M — Google review
Liked this museum. Detailed explanations were in English. Especially enjoyed the many perspectives of 'time' in that exhibit. The personal collection of furniture, artifacts and everyday items from the family who spent time in China and Japan was also interesting. All exhibits are worthwhile. Enjoyed lunch outside in the museum cafe afterwards - prices reasonable. There is so much to see, it's tiring. I recommend seeing a couple of floors, then going to the cafe for a bit of rest and recharge, then finishing up. Senior pricing is available

A museum with exhibitions about various aspects of people's lives, mostly in the past. You can find out a lot about the Slovenian traditions. It has decent descriptions but no interactive elements (the one thing we saw didn't work). They also have sections on traditional cultures from other continents. The exhibition Man and Time is the most interesting in my opinion. There was also a temporary exhibition about an interesting life of a japanese woman in Slovenia in the first half of 20th century.
Marko G — Google review
Very nice and quiet museum. Located near the contemporary art museum, is located inside a three story building. Starting from the top floor which is reachable through a very cool window elevator, there is the true ethnographic museum with the permanent exhibition with a very well cared space for kids. On the second floor she I visited there was a special exposition for the 100 years of the museum. And finally on the first floor a series of exhibition that changes over time. The prices are surprisingly cheap, 6 euros the regular ticket and 3 with the student discount. Overall the thing that I liked the most was the peace inside the museum probably because on a rainy Sunday people were doing other things and I only met three other visitors in my entire stay in the building.

Cool air and elevator. Lots of old things. More of international history of Africa, Maya indian, Amazon than Slovenian history. There is own place for children. I prefer to see more from Slovenia as tourist point of view. So maybe change a bit the always staying exhibition would be good ☺️ The exhibition area looks nice, made by interior designer. When i visited museum very few visitors. Entrance fee 3€ as a student.

The Museum of Modern Art Ljubljana, part of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, is a prominent institution showcasing Slovenian art from the 20th and 21st centuries. It was established by merging the Ljubljana City Museum and Ljubljana City Gallery. The museum features a diverse collection ranging from local impressionists to contemporary creations, offering inspiration to modern art enthusiasts. Visitors can also explore temporary exhibitions alongside the permanent collection.
I think this contemporary art museum is better than Cukrarna. There are numerous art pieces, each accompanied by English explanations, so you won’t be left feeling confused. However, the staff did monitor my every move, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Aside from that, everything was good.
Howie — Google review
Very good, but a bit short. Just like the contemporary art museum, every arg piece is explained in great depths, and are displayed in amazing order. Very great curation all in all.

What a terrific surprise. I had low expectations for a modern art museum in such a small city and boy was I proven wrong. Aside from some funky and interesting temporary exhibits, their permanent collection is kind of fantastic. It's all (or almost all?) from Slovenian artists, and it's diverse and interesting and aesthetically delightful. Much larger and more famous modern art collections (looking at you, Albertina Modern and Belvedere 21) pale in comparison. This will be a must-do any time I'm in Slovenia.

I guess I’m missing something but compared to the classical art gallery across the road, I was in and out of here within 10 minutes. I appreciated the artistic expression in some of the sculptures but on the most part, and maybe I’m not sophisticated to understand it, but I was perplexed. There was one installation that was a light rod that changed colour every 30 seconds with the sound of a camera shutter. One artist was Romanticised by the thought of slitting his father’s throat whilst he watched his father shave as a child. Pass - I found it dark and glum

The Rathaus (Town Hall) in Ljubljana is a stunning building, and we had the chance to visit it during our city tour. Our guide gave us a fascinating rundown of its history, which made the experience much more meaningful. Located in the Old Town, the Renaissance-style facade with touches of Gothic and Baroque design really stands out. The surrounding town square adds to the charm, making it a perfect spot to take in the local atmosphere. Inside, there are some exhibits that offer a glimpse into the city's past, though the real highlight was learning about the history from our guide. The building itself is beautiful and rich in stories, making it a great stop to really connect with Ljubljana’s heritage.

Originally built in the 15th century, the building was later remodeled in the 18th century in a Baroque-Renaissance style. It still serves as the seat of the Mayor of Ljubljana and houses the city's administrative offices. Inside, you'll also find a small exhibition gallery and a wedding hall open to the public.

1 | Mestna hiša (Ljubljana Town Hall) was originally built in the late 15th century and received its Baroque makeover between 1717–1719 under the direction of Gregor Maček Sr. based on designs by the Italian architect Carlo Martinuzzi. 2 | The building houses municipal offices and several spaces dedicated to art exhibitions. The exhibits change regularly. During our visit in July 2025, there was an exhibition focused on summer vacations, visually styled to resemble Instagram. 3 | The building is also architecturally interesting, with Robba’s Narcissus fountain located in its courtyard, surrounded by arcaded walkways.

Mestni muzej Ljubljana is a refined museum located in the Old Town, offering a comprehensive insight into the history of Ljubljana from its early beginnings to the present day. The museum showcases archaeological finds and presents the city's heritage within the elegant surroundings of a palace. Visitors can explore both permanent and temporary exhibitions, with the latter providing a fresh perspective on historical narratives.
The Ljubljana City Museum was a pleasure to visit. Having been to many city museums in my time I can say with confidence that this is a good one. This is even with a floor of the museum being closed for renovations during my visit. Ljubljana has a very long history and this museum does a wonderful job of laying that out for you to enjoy. This was a thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience. Also, I’ve been in even more art museums and the presentation of art in the first room on floor two is the best I’ve ever seen. I have never been more drawn into a room with art in it. Amazing place to visit!

Interesting museum about the history of Ljubljana/Slovenia. There are interactive displays, “do touch” displays for children and adults alike. You can get 10% off if you can get your hands on one of those paper fans. The coffee shop on site wasn’t worth it, though.
Tessa P — Google review
One of the best city museums around. Really well thought out with lots of information in chronological order including the must sees which save time. Interactive activities for kids (and big kids). Great cafe downstairs so make sure you stop before or after your visit. Good temporary exhibition on as well. Ps. Not open Mondays. Good for a rainy day!
Alice W — Google review
Had a lovely time once again. It's a lovely museum with plenty to see. Could've had a larger collection, but as it is it seems perfect for a short visit of an hour or two.
S J — Google review
Interactive museum with a permanent exhibition of the story of the city, worth the price. Around 40 min of traveling through time. We also visit the temporary exhibition about Slovenia in the Second World War.
Catarina P — Google review
The history of the city, plus a special exhibit about Ljubljana during WWII. Seeing a 5,200 year old wheel and axel was interesting.
Bryan D — Google review
They have a permanent archeological and historical exhibition. The museum has a lot of interactive displays, including a replica of roman soldiers' equipment that you can try on, an old Yugoslavian car you can sit in. An archeological exhibition has a lot of digital displays with short information, games and quizes. Excelent for history enthusiasts and children. We also visited a temporary exhibition on WW2 and everyday life during that time. That one was quite interesting and interactive as well.
Marko G — Google review
I love this museum! It might seem tiny but they are well planned. (Lockers, toilets, cafe). The permanent exhibtion offers compact history of the city with a lot of different media to enrich the experience. I especially like the music in the last room and the "tests" at the end. The temporary exhibition (from corset to jacket) is refreshing because it gives you a glimpse into history from a different perspective. Highly recommend!!

Plečnik House, located in the southern part of Ljubljana, is a complex of two neighboring houses and an adjacent garden that once belonged to the renowned architect Jože Plečnik. The house now hosts the Plečnik Collection, showcasing the architect's original furniture, library, drawing tools, personal belongings, and a vast archive of sketches, plans, photographs, and models.
I love the way the guide explained his major life points. Very peaceful atmosphere specially the garden. We waited there more than an hour during a hot day. There were letter reading , they served delicious drinks and snacks for the people who were around. Worth to visit place. Staff is very friendly and helpful

This was such A great experience. We were very lucky to arrive at a good time. We had a wonderful tour guide, which now I forget his name, but he was so sympathetic, very knowledgeable, and great insights and story telling. I highly recommend doing the house tour. :)
Blendi B — Google review
The tour guides are excellent and provide an interesting 45 min tour of this great Slovian’s house as he left it when he died in the 1950’s. As he worked with those in power (except the facists) his living quarters remained in tact during communism. Cheap price for the tour overall. Well worth it for the man who left the biggest architectural imprint on Ljubljana.
Dany G — Google review
A really interesting guided tour about Plečnik and the home that he built up. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and really gave a sense of what inspired Plečnik and how he lived. Much of the house has been preserved with the furniture, items and fittings that they possessed when Plečnik died in 1957. There’s lots of fascinating period details to see and examine and the house itself is very interesting architecturally as well with a huge garden (with even more classical artefacts) to explore. Well worth 9 Euros!
Ben Y — Google review
Would highly recommend booking the tour online in advance if, like me, you admire his architecture but don't actually know a lot about him. The house and guide was very informative and much better than if you only went into the free exhibits (although they were very detailed). We went on a rainy day. Really enjoyed how the guide left us to explore in each room and take photos (without flash). Learnt a lot and appreciated the architecture of the city even more after visiting.
Alice W — Google review
It is such a pleasure to share my experience about this great place and people who run it. The museum is full of original and well kept things having belonged to Jože Plečnik, and all of that provides a wonderful insight into a way of life and personal philosophy of the most important Slovenian and one of the most appreciated Europian architects. A visitor is able to choose between regular visit and a guided tour with just a few euros price difference. I chose the guided tour and I have to say all the best about Tea, our guide. She is approachable, full of information and she knows very well how to present them in an interesting way. The tour is guided both in Slovenian and English successively. You don’t need to have a previous knowledge either about architecture, or about Plečnik personally, but in my opinion, it is recommendable to gain at least few basic information, which is quite easy in the era of google. The regular price of guided tour is 9 euros, and I know there is a discount for students and elderly people. I highly recommend visiting this wonderful little world of the great artist and exceptional human being.
Jelica M — Google review
I recommend a visit with a guide, during the tour she introduced you to Plečnik's life and many interesting facts. Pleasant visit, the museum environment is nice. The guide spoke clear English, she responded promptly to all our questions.
Denisa M — Google review
This museum is really interesting to see, especially if you have somehow interest into architecture. It was definitely eye opening to learn about the life of Plecnik and how he contributed to the architectural structure of the city of Ljubjana. It was also great that you can see the house via a hourly guided tour that is done max with 7 people. When you consider this, the price for the museum was really fair.

Lovely big cathedral in the heart of Ljubljana if you want to listen at mass you don’t have pay if not you must pay a small feee to enter. Highly advised to go to Sunday mass at 6pm is magical…. Photos are restricted

St. Nicholas’ Church in Ghent is really impressive! This old stone church stands tall in the city center, looking strong and beautiful. Inside, the high ceilings and big stained-glass windows are so pretty. The organ is huge and cool to see, even if it’s not playing. It’s free to enter, which is awesome, and it’s not too crowded. The history feels alive with all the old details around you. I loved the calm and peaceful vibe inside. It’s great for a quick visit to soak in some beauty and history. The location makes it easy to stop by while exploring Ghent. Definitely worth checking out!

Heritage museum
The National Gallery of Slovenia, established in 1918, is the main art museum in the country and houses an extensive collection of fine art spanning from the 13th century to the 20th century. Housed in a stunning Neo-Renaissance palace with a modern glass facade, the gallery's permanent exhibition showcases nearly 600 works by Slovenian and European artists.
One of the most important art museums in Slovenia, the museum houses an extensive collection of Slovenian and European artworks from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century. Founded in 1918, the gallery is located in a historic neoclassical building, later expanded with a modern glass façade. It is a must-visit for anyone seeking to understand Slovenian art history. The museum also holds the original Robba Fountain, one of Ljubljana’s iconic landmarks—now displayed in front of City Hall as a replica.

great gallery with beautiful architecture and artworks. the staff was friendly and helpful, the restrooms were very clean and there’s a lot to see and to learn from the gallery. i loved the QR codes next some paintings or sculptures that led to the website of the National Gallery in which there was an audio/text that formally analysed the work, the history and meaning behind it.

The National Gallery in Ljubljana is about a 15-minute walk from the Old Town, situated near Tivoli Park. Housed in a historic building with a modern interior, it offers a pleasant and accessible environment for visitors. The permanent exhibition showcases Slovenian art from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century, providing a clear and well-organized journey through the country’s artistic evolution. Information is available in both Slovenian and English, making it easy to navigate and understand. During our visit, we explored two temporary exhibitions: Baroque in Slovenia: Featuring over 170 artworks from the 17th and 18th centuries, this exhibition offers insight into the Baroque period’s influence on Slovenian art, highlighting the blend of Central European and Mediterranean artistic expressions. While the Baroque style isn‘t our favorite, the exhibition was well set-up. From Shadow into Light: The Sketchbooks of Ivana Kobilca: This exhibition delves into the sketchbooks of Ivana Kobilca, Slovenia’s most prominent female painter, providing a unique glimpse into her creative process and the development of her artworks. We really liked her work, and spent most of our time in this temporary exhibition. Tickets were purchased on-site without any issues. The gallery also includes a small shop and a café, perfect for a short break. We spent approximately 1.5 hours exploring the exhibitions, which felt sufficient to appreciate the collections without feeling rushed. Overall, the National Gallery is a recommended stop for those interested in art and its historical development in Slovenia.

The National Gallery of Slovenia in Ljubljana is a beautiful spot for art lovers. Highlights include colorful Impressionist paintings and medieval sculptures. Jurij Subic: Before The Hunt Ivana Kobilca: Woman Drinking Coffee, 1888

Small, but interesting. The Baroque exhibition is monotonous, with too much religious themes, but this was characteristic of the era too

Well designed and gorgeous art museum in Ljubljana. The tickets for temporary and permanent exhibitions costs only 9 euro for students. There are toilets and also baggage storage cabinets. The temporary exhibition was fine but that many in quantities. However, the permanent exhibition was a huge thing here! They were displayed in a magnificent hall and include statutes and artworks. Especially, there is a room where you can sit and quietly watch the painting of a few cows with comfortable music, what an enjoyment! In the back side of the museum, where the cafe is, has a spacious location that is more modernized design and wow! Overall, recommend spending 1 to 2 hours here!

Nestled amidst the charming cobblestone streets of Ljubljana, the National and University Library stands as a testament to architectural brilliance, designed by the renowned Joze Plecnik. Completed in 1941, this striking building draws inspiration from Italian palazzos and echoes the grandeur of the former Auersperg Palace that once occupied its site. With its impressive orange and white façade, adorned with symbolic windows resembling open books, visitors are greeted by a monumental dark marble staircase upon entering.
I use it as a Study place, so I'm reviewing it as such. The atmosphere is chill and classy, really motivating. You have plenty of tables to choose from, all provided with outlets; Free WiFi, and vending machines for coffee and snacks. You often find other people studying and working there. To reach it you need to enter the building and go left downstairs.
Riccardo O — Google review
Home to both the National Library and the University of Ljubljana Library, this is Slovenia’s most important library and one of Jože Plečnik’s architectural masterpieces, carrying profound architectural and cultural symbolism. Constructed between 1930 and 1941, it combines Modernism, Classicism, and Slovenian folk motifs. The entire structure was conceived as a sanctuary of knowledge, designed to express a spiritual ascent toward enlightenment. Its striking façade—made of red brick and grey stone—evokes a sense of solidity and the weight of knowledge, while the windows resemble open books, symbolizing the act of learning.
Seokjin H — Google review
Worth a visit, it's a unique place, the architecture is stunning. It's free during weekdays but the main hall is closed as there are people studying inside. This was a very entertaining and fun place to visit, with a 2 and 7 year old. Can easily spend 1+2 hours and is more value for money compared to the House Of Illusions (22 vs 37€ in July 2025). Definitely worth a visit!

A fun educational activity for the kids - near the heart of the old town. It loses a star for the cost - 44 Euro is a bit steep for what is - taking our time the kids were ready to leave after an hour. We virtually had the place to ourselves in late October on a weekday. Also there is a ‘weird’ arcade game which leads to awkward conversations with young children (see the pic).

Sights & Landmarks
This bridge is popularly known as the love bridge among the locals. It spans between the Petkovsek embankment and Central Market in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The simple design features bronze sculptures of curious figures from mythology, like Prometheus, a satyr and Adam and Eve.
Despite its name, the bridge is a modern pedestrian-only bridge that combines a romantic atmosphere with contemporary art installations. It spans the Ljubljanica River, connecting Vodnik Square with Petkovškovo nabrežje. Originally designed in the 1930s by Jože Plečnik, the bridge remained unbuilt for decades and was eventually completed in 2010 in a modern style—not in Plečnik’s design, but as a realization of his unfulfilled vision in a contemporary form. The name comes from the former slaughterhouse and butcher shops that once stood nearby. Today, the bridge is best known as a romantic spot, where couples leave padlocks on the railings to symbolize their love.
Seokjin H — Google review
All of the bridges in Central Ljubljana are different. This one has metal railings and lots of locks attached to it. It offers a nice view over the river and you can buy a ticket for the boat ride from the middle of the bridge
Alice K — Google review
I feel the locks on bridges are so unoriginal, they’re in like every country now! How do people decide where they want to leave their love locks?! Haha The glass part of the bridge is really cool though
Liz S — Google review
The Butcher's Bridge is Ljubljana's version of a love bridge, complete with countless padlocks and a slick glass walkway (watch your step when it rains!). But don’t expect Cupid statues—here you'll find provocative bronze sculptures, including a man casually holding his intestines. Well, it is the Butcher's Bridge, after all! Historically, this spot was part of the medieval meat market, and its slightly macabre flair is part of the charm. Great for photos, a quick stop, or just soaking in the city’s quirky vibe. :)
Michael N — Google review
It’s nice to put on padlocks on the bridge, but I think the frogs should be spared from getting locked

1 | Mesarski Most (Butcher’s Bridge) is a pedestrian bridge completed in 2010 that spans the Ljubljanica River, linking Ljubljana’s Central Market to the Petkovškovo embankment. Its modern steel and glass design is complemented by dramatic bronze sculptures by Jakov Brdar. 2 | The bridge is known locally as Ljubljana’s "Love Bridge". Honestly, I’m not a big fan of the habit of damaging public spaces with padlocks. However, in this case, it’s fairly photogenic, and if the city is okay with it, I accept it. 3 | The bridge is pedestrian-only, and you’ll likely come across it while walking around Ljubljana.
Petr N — Google review
Mesarski Most is one of those little gems in Ljubljana that might not get as much attention as some of the bigger landmarks, but it’s definitely worth a visit. It’s a small, charming bridge that crosses the Ljubljanica River, and what makes it special are the animal sculptures on the railings—there’s something quirky about them that gives the bridge a fun, unique character. We toured this bridge on our city tour, and it’s definitely less busy than some of the other bridges. Its uniqueness and charm also come from the hundreds to thousands of locks attached to the bridge by both tourists and locals, adding a personal touch to the structure.

It is surrounded by monumental buildings such as the University of Ljubljana and the stunning Trinity Church with its remarkable Romanesque facade.
In 1821, it was the site of the Holy Alliance Congress—an international meeting during the era of the Concert of Europe, involving Austria, Russia, and Prussia. Out of hundreds, this is the best museum i have been to. Not joking, this is a MUST see. The exhibitions are amazingly curated, and explained in great depths. The subjects present in the art are clearly thought out well, and make alot of sense in todays political climate. Many of the pieces are also interactive, which makes it great, even for people who would normally find this kinda art boring. Furthermore the art is explained, so that the people who normally think “i could make this, its not even art” understand the deeper meaning and intentions. PLS VISIT, you will NOT regret it. Finally, as the cherry on top, the tickets are dirt cheap.

It's a very nice museum for contemporary art with a focus on artists from the ex jugosloavia lands. Also a lot of female representation! The stuff was very friendly and a interesting bookshop even with English books. The museum is not too big so it was nice short visit.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova (MSUM) in Ljubljana is a cool spot for modern art lovers. The exhibits, like those about postwar monuments, are quite interesting. The building’s design is unique, with a nice café and bookstore. It’s a bit out of the way but worth it for art fans.

Nice museum of modern arts. Free on the first Sunday on each month and on 8 of February. You’ll need approximately 1h to check all exhibitions.

A hilarious example of champagne socialism; artworks condemning propaganda while being propagandistic itself, includes an entire WW2 themed floor without any mention of Jewish victims, has a disturbing photo collection including beastiality. The signs were written with font size 10 and overall the exhibitions felt disconnected and elitist. First time I regretted visiting a museum.

The Slovenian Natural History Museum is a large, well-maintained museum with permanent and temporary exhibitions. It also has a large collection of minerals, molluscs, insects, and reptiles. Highlights include the famous Zois Mineral Collection and the Hohenwart Molluscan Shell Collection. There are also various herbarium collections on display. The Museum is attached to Ljubljanas National Museum, which is itself quite extensive.
On a Wednesday during December, I had this museum to myself. It takes your through a chronological journey through Slovenia’s history with a rich collection of artefacts to justify each period of history. There is a vast collection of Roman artefacts also. Plenty of signage in English - Hvala!

Very good Museum. Only 6 euros to enter. Museum is in a beautiful former palace.(For WW2 history buffs, 80 years ago during the German occupation of Ljubljana, the building was also used for administrative purposes by the German Wehrmacht and Waffen SS). The museum has a fairly Impressive WW1 and WW2 collection. Not only that, but has a full 20th century collection from Slovenia history. It’s very easy to navigate the museum and well worth checking out if you are interested in history.

The Slovenian Museum of Natural History in Ljubljana is a fascinating stop for nature lovers. Housed in the same building as the National Museum, it features a huge mammoth skeleton and a fin whale skeleton. The exhibits are interactive, great for kids and adults, with clear English descriptions.

This is Slovenia’s leading national institution for natural sciences, covering a wide range of fields including zoology, botany, mineralogy, paleontology, and fossils. Founded in 1821, in the same year as the National Museum, it is one of the oldest national museums in Slovenia. The current building, constructed in the late 19th century, is designed in the Neo-Renaissance style and is shared with the National Museum of Slovenia. One of the most popular exhibits is the complete skeleton of a Pleistocene mammoth, discovered in Slovenia. Also on display is the Leptodirus hochenwartii, the world’s first scientifically described cave-dwelling beetle, which has become a symbol of Slovenia’s cave biology research.

Was looking for an interesting place to go with the kids. We went there early afternoon and it was nice and quiet even in Holiday season. The Tickets are really cheap compared to many tourist attractions (17€ for the whole family for both parts of the museum. The staff was all very friendly and helpful, the exhibit was interesting with descriptions in Slovenian and English. Nothing spectacular but a nice collection of animals, plants, and geology. Many interactive stations for the children so that both my youngest (5) and my oldest (16) found things to do. Can be covered in 2-3 hours or even faster when in a hurry.

Led by the knowledgeable guide Tevz, this tour offers insightful stories about the city's history and recent events. The pace is suitable for all ages, making it a fun and informative way to cover more ground than on foot.
Great and fun way to see the main sites of Ljubljana! The bike was very comfortable and light. Guide was knowledgeable + friendly.

We had a fantastic bike tour today with Tevž from Watermelon Ljubljana by Bike. Right from the start, he was incredibly friendly and professional, making us feel welcomed and at ease. His storytelling was engaging throughout—he balanced the city’s history with updates about its modern transformation, keeping things both informative and lively. We appreciated how he highlighted Ljubljana’s recent developments and upgrades—whether it was new architecture, urban improvements, or revitalised green spaces, he seamlessly wove those into the city’s narrative. The pace was perfect—not rushed, yet full of detail—and the route uncovered a great mix of classic sites and newer, less-explored areas. As an independent travel agent, I’m impressed by the quality and depth of this experience and will absolutely recommend

Tevz is a fantastic guide with amazing knowledge of his City and the country he is so proud of! Each stop was well chosen to give an opportunity to listen to stories and take some photos too! Ljubljana is such a beautiful City and Tevz took us all around it and into Tivoli park where we stopped for a drink. I quizzed about the more recent history and Tevz gave insightful and interesting answers which I appreciated as I remember watching it all on the UK news at the time. We did a shorter 2 hour tour as I was a bit delicate from the night before but we left knowing that with Tevz's great guiding and lovely bikes we saw a LOT more of Ljubljana than we would have if we'd have done a walking tour which basically just shows the bits you can see for yourself anyway. HIGHLY recommended! :)

The surrounding park adds to the peaceful atmosphere, making it a perfect place for reflection or a quiet stroll. Everything about this place feels welcoming and serene. We were absolutely blown away by Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church—an often-overlooked gem that deserves far more attention. The exterior is impressive, but it’s the interior that truly takes your breath away. The church is adorned with vivid, intricate frescoes that cover nearly every surface, creating a kaleidoscope of color and symbolism. It’s like stepping inside a living icon. The level of detail is extraordinary, and the atmosphere is both majestic and serene. The interior architecture is equally striking, with a unique layout and Eastern Orthodox design elements that set it apart from most churches in Ljubljana. It offers a rare and powerful glimpse into Slavic religious and artistic traditions. Whether you’re interested in sacred art, ecclesiastical architecture, or simply want to experience something beautiful and moving, this church is absolutely worth a visit. A true hidden treasure for art and architecture lovers alike.

Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church is a moving and historic site, best known for its memorial to the Czechoslovak paratroopers who resisted Nazi occupation in World War II. The crypt, where the fighters made their last stand, is especially powerful and emotional to visit. The church itself is peaceful, with beautiful architecture and a sense of solemn respect. A must-see in Prague for those interested in history, remembrance, and quiet reflection.

This church is one of the key centers of Eastern Orthodox Christianity in Slovenia. It is dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius, two brothers who brought Christianity to the Slavic peoples. They are known for developing the Glagolitic script, which later influenced the Cyrillic alphabet, and for laying the foundations of Christian mission work across Eastern Europe. The building was constructed between 1932 and 1936 in the Byzantine architectural style, and is especially renowned for its interior iconography painted by Đuro Radulović.

The Ursuline Church of the Holy Trinity is a stunning Baroque church built in the 1700s, located in Slovenia. Designed by architect Carlo Martinuzzi, it features a unique facade and a magnificent baroque interior with an exquisite high altar crafted from African marble by Francesco Robba. The original bell tower was replaced after an earthquake in 1895. In addition to its architectural beauty, the church is also known for the famous Dance of Death fresco on its south wall.
It is very bitter that such nice baroque church is closed for visitors during the day. Finally I managed to get inside and took some photos and video of interior. In my youth I had here german and latin lessons led by sister Ireneja. Thanks and bless.

The restaurant offers a unique dining experience where guests are served exquisite dishes prepared by the hotel's chefs. Dining in complete darkness, patrons enjoy a four-course meal and engage in activities such as pouring glasses, smelling mysterious vials, and touching unknown boxes.
Unique and unforgettable experience! Booked this as a surprise for a friend and it totally exceeded our expectations. The whole experience was super interactive and really made us more present — eating in complete darkness is something you have to try at least once! The team was amazing, guiding us with care and making it fun from start to finish. We had lots of laughs trying to guess what we were eating and ended up appreciating the flavours even more. It’s not just dinner — it’s a full sensory journey. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something different and memorable to do! You need to book online and pay in advance.
Iolanda F — Google review
Five years later, I totally agree with the comment below. Our experience was just like theirs. I wouldn't suggest paying 69€ because the food we got (boiled beef, pate on bread…and dessert in a plastic cup) felt like a waste of money. The experience was a total disappointment. “The night started out good, when we got there we got a glass of champagne and each group was lead to their table in the dark (and it really was dark). For me that was the best thing about the whole experience though. The food we got wasn’t good at all, some courses were really dry where others just tasted bland. We didn’t get any choices for the wine except for red or white and they didn’t try to actually pair it with the various dishes. It was also difficult to ask for more drinks since the waiters were talking with each other on multiple occasions and we didn’t get the personal waiter that was promised on their website. Mind that you can’t get eye contact with anyone of the staff since you have no clue where they at. It wasn’t worth the 60 euros and I wouldn’t recommend going here. Next to the mediocre food they had some “challenges” that seemed really childish to me. As a whole it was just an incredibly disappointing experience.”
Nina Č — Google review
I don't often give a perfect review score but the experience was perfect. The staff went above and beyond to answer all our questions and requests (ie. Vegetarian, English speaking). We had so much fun and also enjoyed the quality of the food. I didn't know what to expect going in and that was part of what makes it special. I think although the concept is great on its own it is the excellent staff in Ljubljana that makes this one totally worth the money.
Darcie H — Google review
The whole dinner was an amazing experience, totally different. Sitting in the dark, we enjoyed every moment of discovering the food on our plates, laughing all the way through 4 courses, trying to eat with the forks was nearly impossible :) Really liked the extra tasks we had to perform - they had us pouring glasses, smelling strange vials and touching unknown boxes. The food was amazing, all based on traditional Slovenian cooking but on a totally different level. The meat just melted in our mouths. Pure pleasure. The staff was really nice and helped us through the dark :)
Luka J — Google review
My girlfriend and I decided to try dinner in the dark. She was a bit skeptical, she thought it's no different than a regular dinner. But I love to try new things, so we gave it a try. In the end we were both blown away! The food was amazing and the experience of taste, when you're in complete darkness, is unlike anything we've experienced before! I think it's one of the coolest things you can try as a couple or with friends in Ljubljana.
Matic J — Google review
Loved it! I was playing a tourist in my home city, when I noticed a bit unusual experience on the list of the rainy day activities in Hotel Union. I was a bit sceptical on the start, because the price is a bit high, but I ended up in complete dark room with one of the most unique experiences I ever had. Food was good, but the flow of the dinner is something else. I would recommend it and I would even say that everybody needs to try it!
Matej E — Google review
I knew for Dans la noir, because it started in France, but i never had a chance to visit it, so i decided to check Slovenian one, because it had a lot of positive reviews. We were brought to a dining room in 120% darkness and were welcomed by a host, who is genuinely blind. During the whole course of dinner, we tried every dish not just with their tastes, but also the sense of touch with hands - struggling to guess what they are and how they look. We couldn’t guess all of them even though some are so common and we have tried many times before. Nevertheless, the idea of such an experience is to raise awareness and funds to those with visual impairs for improvements in their lives, which the initiative should be much appreciated. It was one of the best memories from Ljubljana, even if everything else was amazing too. I would totally recommend it!
Stanislas G — Google review
I was really curious how this dinner will look like. Well, I can say it was really really dark :) Typical Slovenian dishes in a modern way were delicious, but it was quite a difficult task to recognise what we were eating. Such an experience really gives you an opportunity to test your other senses (our eyes really tell us a lot!) and provides a lot of fun during doing that. I definitely recommend a visit.

SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana has a rich history dating back to the 18th century, with its current Neo-Renaissance building being a prominent landmark in Slovenia. Originally a provincial theater, it now hosts a diverse program of classic and modern operas, ballets, and concerts. The opera house expanded in 1918 to include opera and ballet ensembles as well as an orchestra, gaining international recognition post-World War II.
Whether an opera or a ballet, I am always overwhelmed by the performances. It is like magic to me. The building itself speaks stories, as well. It has become one of my favourite places to visit and enjoy. See you again soon.

It is one of the best things to do in Ljubljana. The Opera house is sooo great. The location is wonderful. The staff are extremely helpful, professional, and friendly. I was lucky with the show that I have attended (Don Quixote), which is a novel by Miguel de Cervantes. There was a problem that they (management) must take care of it. It is strange and weird that the cafeteria where people go to enjoy a drink at the usual break, don't accept cards (bank or credit cards - only cash!! Really? In 2024!! We, foreigners, were not informed about that, and that was the ONLY bad thing about the Opera House of Ljubljana. Recommended to the max.
Marc M — Google review
went to see the nutcracker and was there 45 minutes before and the main entrance wasn't open yet (it opened 40 minutes before the show, entrance to the venue opens 20 minutes before the show, so don't come too early). the lobby is quite small and the whole venue is divided into stalls, boxes/lodges and gallery. the enterior is in parts in a bad condition, so refurbishing is highly needed. the views are good wherever your seat is (I sat in the first row, where you can see the show and the orchestra playing). there are lots of toilets on each floor (most busy ones are in the basement) and croupiers will gladly help you with seating. I didn't like the fact that there is a net between the stage and the audience. the performance itself was nice and at a high level.

This is Slovenia’s premier opera and ballet theatre, serving as a central hub for classical performing arts in Ljubljana and a symbolic cultural landmark. It is housed in the Deželno gledališče, a Neo-Renaissance building constructed in 1892. The Trg Republike is a public square in the center of Ljubljana, Slovenia. It was built in the 1960s as part of an effort to modernize the city and it now serves as the center of life in Ljubljana. The square features several monuments, including the Monument to Revolution from 1975 and the Slovenian Parliament from 1992.
This is the largest square in the whole Ljubljana, also known as the Republic Square. Independence of Slovenia was declared here in 1991. An important landmark for the country.

The squre is one of the largest and most symbolic modern squares in Ljubljana. In the mid-20th century, during the Yugoslav era, it became the focal point for the development of public institutions and monumental architecture. It was designed by Edvard Ravnikar, who combined Brutalism and Modernism in its architectural expression. The square is flanked by two iconic high-rise buildings, known as Slovenia’s first skyscrapers. In 1991, this very square was the site of the official declaration of Slovenia’s independence. Today, it continues to host national celebrations, independence commemorations, civic gatherings, and cultural performances throughout the year.

Quiet and tranquille place for worship. The church is unfortunately not open all the time to visit and admire.

This lovely church is located on the fringe of the old town, on a major highway, which is unfortunate, however, worth a look when in the area.

Nestled within the historic Fuzine Castle, the Museum of Architecture and Design is a hidden gem that beautifully marries history with contemporary creativity. Open from Tuesday to Sunday, this charming museum showcases an impressive array of exhibitions that highlight architectural heritage and modern design. Visitors can explore unique displays, including a fascinating exhibition dedicated to a Slovenian woman architect—though it's highly recommended to take a guided tour for deeper insights into the exhibits.
Amazing place, one of the best Museums yards in the city. The building is very interesting, great example of both restoration and conservation of architectural heritage. Exhibitions are very well incorporated in it. They also have cute cafe and spots to chill in the yard, and good ice cream. The last, but not least, you can see one of the most recognizable symbols of Yugoslavia - a small red kiosk K67.
Tamara K — Google review
Absolutely nothing to see here. It should be just free. It doesn't cost 7 euro per ticket.
Denys T — Google review
Great visit if you study architecture and are interested in getting into the creative way historical building can be repurposed. Still interesting for everyone else, just not super easy to follow. I expected to see info on the Ljubljana bridges, but it wasn’t about that.

Small museum that has an amazing history itself. We visited a unique exhibition of the Slovenian woman - architect. I highly recomment to do it with the guide otherwise u will not understand a bigger part of thw exhibition
Olga L — Google review
It only had one exhibition available with the castle section closed. The exhibition seemed irrelevant, there were a few sketches of vases and things like fibre optic cable. I would not waste your time getting out of the city centre to come and see this.

It's a castle and museum at the same time. Inside there's a cafe where you can have coffee, beer and cake. Nice place. Cute and quiet .Next to it is ljubljanica river.

The Slovenian School Museum in Ljubljana offers a fascinating glimpse into the past, recreating an old school classroom from the late 19th century. Visitors can experience writing with quill pens and using slate tablets while learning about the strict school rules of that time. The museum provides an interactive approach to presenting the history of education, making it instructive for all generations. Even from outside, the impressive architecture of the museum is worth admiring.
Museum shows love and care and attention to detail. The staff were very friendly and very helpful in explaining things to me. About 1/3 of the school content is translated into English. All of the content for the temporary sports exhibit is translated into English.
Rob L — Google review
A very well curated and an interactive museum. Loved it! The permanent exhibition has a lot of information and while some parts are translated in English it's mostly in Slovenian. The overall English translation is a work in progress. Though it can get a bit overwhelming to read a lot, I would recommend that you do not miss going upstairs to see the real classroom setup. The details are so lovely and it's overall very charming.

Arena
WOOP! Fun park Ljubljana, also known as Trampolin park, is an indoor arena that offers a variety of trampoline jumps and a foam pit for younger kids. The venue features a cafe and bar where visitors can enjoy snacks and drinks before or after their jumping session. The facility is well-maintained, with strict safety rules in place to ensure a safe experience for all ages.
WOOP! was definitely worth the trip! We had an incredible time here and loved every minute of it. I highly recommend buying tickets in advance; as well as the required socks and wristbands. They have lockers that you can use to store your items that only work with the wristbands you buy. They also provide an informational video you watch before jumping. They have so many activities just within the trampoline park; from regular jumping, to an obstacle course, to a foam pit, a rocking climbing wall, a high jump and dodge ball - this place has it all. They even have a separate area for climbing where they will provide you with harnesses and information. The wristbands allow you to enter into the gated areas for the time you purchased. The employees here were all incredibly helpful, friendly and kind - so if you run into any issues, they’re more than happy to help. If you get hungry or thirsty, there’s a place to eat upstairs that also serves alcohol. The food was basic but good and the drinks were phenomenal. Overall, this was an incredible experience that I highly enjoyed and recommend!
Kaeli W — Google review
Lots to do, great exercise and we could have stayed much longer. Not cheap and some of the rules are enforced different from safety video. Wristbands are set for a future time and could be waiting 15-30 min before entry. Bar upstairs has some tasty drinks and decent prices.
Colby R — Google review
Dry convenient chilling place for parents and sports place for kids. If you get bored , you also take some time to clean your car at less than 1 km from him. Win win
Jerome G — Google review
Very nice play to have fun with the kids, we had a great time there. Also, we celebrated our daughters birthday there, everything was fantastic. I can say that it covers all needs. 4 stars cause it’s not cheap at all
Jeronimo S — Google review
Good fun for kids and adults. Lots of trampolines and great themed sets. It is necessary to watch the safety film before jumping. Nicely arranged and clean, good organization, safe jumping, animators present. The staff at the box office and at the bar are very friendly. The price per hour is 12 €, but if you come for the first time you have to pay extra for a bracelet and anti-slip socks. There is also a bar with a view of the trampolines. The youngest are also catered for as they can jump on the miniWoop. In the store you can buy a souvenir for home. Great fun.
Diana M — Google review
We are not a local visitors. The first impression was great! Bar is open before the trampoline park open its doors. You can have a snack and drink. Very friendly stuff. They all speak good english. Everything is clean, very safe and professional. Very strict safety rules what gives more safe play time for younger children too. There arrived school group of teenagers at the same time but they were behaving very well and it didn't disturb at all. The supervisors at the trampoline park are very attent. You can also pay with crypto currency 👌 Go to their website to book a tickets. Website is also in english. If you are not sure which tickets to choose, make a call as I did and they will kindly help you. The park is located near shopping center and other stores. In case your children can stay and play alone, you can go 🛍
Agata B — Google review
The location is very easy to reach by public transport. They are very professional, the place is clean and a lot of fun. Not sure if it is written anywhere but they have showers, you can, and maybe should, come prepared. It's kind of impossible to get out dry =D We took our wristbands and socks on the first entry and now looking forward to future visits.

Kino Šiška, a municipal social center established in 2009, is a vibrant hub for urban culture and artistic expression. This versatile venue hosts an impressive array of events, including over 250 musical and artistic performances annually. From indie rock to electronic music, metal, and more, the center welcomes renowned artists across various modern music genres. Additionally, visitors can enjoy theatrical productions, contemporary dance showcases, experimental performances, and diverse art exhibitions.
A very pleasant place with friendly and helpful staff. The atmosphere feels relaxed and well-organized. There’s a wide variety of products and events offered, and you can tell the people here put their heart into what they do. Overall, a nice visit and definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area.

First time for COFESTIVAL and I'm very excited! This is the main venue of the festival. It's easy to come from the city center as many bus lines stop here. The reception is nice and warm, with a bar providing a variety of drinks. No food though. You can pay by card. There's a burek near the bus station if you are hungry. The seats in the theater are very basic. For the festival the seats are not numbered but you see quite well even from the last row. It's not obvious to queue either. Lastly, it snowed and the passage from the bus station to the theater glides a bit but it's the same in the city center. So you just need to be careful in case of snow.

If you're looking for a fantastic venue to catch some live music or attend a unique event in Ljubljana, look no further than Kino Šiška. This former cinema has been transformed into a top-notch event location, and I recently had the pleasure of catching a band performance there. First of all, the venue itself is stunning. The main concert hall is spacious with great acoustics and a modern design that perfectly complements the building's historic roots. The stage is large and provides an excellent view from any spot in the room. Plus, there are plenty of bars and restrooms so you never have to wait too long for refreshments. But what really sets Kino Šiška apart is the quality of events they host. I recently saw a band play there, and the experience was unforgettable. From start to finish, the sound was crystal clear and the lighting was expertly done to create an atmosphere that perfectly complemented the music. The crowd was energetic and friendly, and the staff made sure everyone felt welcome and comfortable throughout the show. Overall, I highly recommend Kino Šiška as a must-visit event location in Ljubljana. Whether you're looking to catch some live music, attend a cultural event, or just soak up the unique atmosphere of this historic building, Kino Šiška is sure to impress.
Daniel H — Google review
A young, experimental, and vibrant contemporary cultural space, this urban cultural center brings together concerts, exhibitions, performances, street culture, design, and workshops. Originally a cinema, the venue was transformed into a city cultural center in 2009. While the exterior features a raw, industrial concrete façade, the interior includes a variety of dynamic spaces such as the large performance hall, the medium-sized black box stage, a gallery, and a lounge area—making it one of Ljubljana’s most energetic and forward-thinking cultural venues.

At Atlantis, you'll enjoy a variety of pools and slides to keep you cool in the heat. The complex is well-maintained and affordable, making it a great destination for day trips or vacations. However, the water is not always hot, so make sure to bring your swimwear if you're looking for a truly refreshing experience.
Nice place, decent prices, option to buy a 3-hour ticket. A lot of lockers,it was clean inside - we were there on a Friday in July. The pool outside isn't very big but inside, the covered space is nice making it also ok in colder times,I guess. Food court with some food is also nice, limited menu but enough. Our teens really enjoyed the slides. Free parking very close.

🥳Such a lovely way to spend your day. With slides, pools and a savna there is something for everyone. It can get pretty packed with people, but other than that so fun if you’re nearby Ljubljana. We had a fabulous tour with Lucy as a tour guide. There was a mix of history, architecture, culture and suggestions - I honestly couldn’t fault it! We also got free samples of a local liquor from a shop along the way. Great way to spend the afternoon, and I’d recommend doing this tour at the start of your stay in Ljubljana so that you have tips on what to do/where to go during the rest of your time in the city.

The Viewing Tower at Rašica offers a serene escape near Ljubljana, providing a perfect spot for forest bathing and enjoying breathtaking panoramic views. The tower stands 17 meters high, offering vistas of nearby mountains, valleys, and even the capital city of Slovenia. While the climb up the 84 stairs may be a bit unnerving due to their see-through design, the stunning scenery from the top makes it all worthwhile.
Our best time in Ljubljana. Accessible by a hike, the climb is less difficult than Šmarna gora and the view is much better. It is possible to start a hike from a Bus stop. Take line 8 from Ljubljana to GAMELJNE. At GAMELJNE, there is a shop, where you can get some water, or something. Several hikes are possible, with a minimum loop of 7 km, from the bus stop. You will find a small restaurant, with very good local specialties, where the locals also eat or have a drink. don't hesitate to stop there! The view is truly incredible, and the hike too, it's very calm. The start of the hill, in the forest from GAMELJNE, was quite steep, so equip yourself as you would for a hike. If you found this review helpful, thumbs up!

Even though it was cloudy and moist and there was no view at all, the run up to Rašica from Rodica was really great. I liked it!
TheGeorg278 — Google review
The Rašica hill (you read it like 'RASHIZA') with its 641 meters of height (Ljubljana is at 295 meters) is a little bit lower than the 'next door' Mount Saint Mary or better yet Šmarna gora hill (669 meters - distinctive because of its church Cerkev Rožnovenske Matere Božje) but it has a FAR better view. In the photos that I have provided (winter season view) you can see just 180 degrees, basically just the mountains which are the last part of the Alps or better yet last part of the long Alp chain. From Rašica you can see 90 km into distance or an area of 25.000 km2 (which is 5.000 more than entire country). If it wasn't for hills, you would see the Adriatic sea! The view from Rašica provides so much that it would be hard to describe everything. The photos are from early 2000's. One of them shows the highest mountain of not just Slovenia but former Yugoslavia as well - Triglav, 2864 meters. From Triglav you can see all the way to Venice or better yet 190 km into distance and it's the third highest peak of the Balkan peninsula.
Duško D — Google review
No matter how often I climb Rašica—by MTB or on foot—the path is always steep and demanding. But the view from the tower at the top, stretching from Ljubljana to the Alps, is worth every step and every drop of sweat.
Ožbe P — Google review
Razgledni Stolp – Forest bathing near Ljubljana. The peak of Staneta Kosca stands eyeball to eyeball with Šmarna Gora. The geological stand-off between these two hills is one for the books! Yet, when you’re looking for a peaceful location near Ljubljana for a day of forest bathing, this forested hillside is the right place. Plenty of people stroll through this forest on holidays and weekends, but they’re more dispersed throughout the forest, making it feel more peaceful. This observation tower (“razgledni stolp” in Slovene) sits above a small village called Rašica and is about 17m tall. Don’t worry; there are stairs, so you don’t have to use superpowers to reach the top—no need to reveal your secret identity. Once you’ve conquered those last few steps, you can enjoy a fantastic view of Ljubljana, the Kamnik–Savinja Alps, and central Slovenia. If you’ve parked your car here: 46°08'00.0"N 14°30'13.2"E (Google maps coordinates: 46.133343, 14.503664), you should walk towards the houses a bit down the street. The first signposts will appear on your left and guide you into the forest. If you’re fortunate enough, you’ll be able to observe the inspiring art of careless Balkan parking, a talent most Slovenes master as soon as they get their driving license! There are several well-marked pathways (red arrows and red and white circles painted on trees and rocks), but I suggest following the Vrh Staneta Kosca signs. These will take you to the observation tower and the nearby inn that serves typical Slovene dishes (Tip: try their Štrukli!) and well-deserved coffee at reasonable prices.

This 360 degree video of 25.000 km2 large area from Rašica hill was taken in September 2024. It's an area larger than Slovenia!

Amazing view. From the 17 m high tower you can see also the highest slovenian mountain Triglav in Julian Alps as well other high mountains in Karavanke and Kamniško-Savinjske Alps range. Of course Ljubljana, capital city of Slovenia is also visible with Šmarna Gora, Rožnik and old castle in the centre of old town.

Escape rooms are a new type of game that lets you use your problem-solving skills to escape a room. At Enigmarium, we have some of the best escape rooms in Baltimore.
Excellent setup with great game masters. Just the two of us completed Operation Waterman with a little oxygen to spare. We rated this room about 8/10 difficulty. Would recommend up to four people, as there are enough non-linear puzzles throughout. Will definitely be going back.

Good escape experience, did 2 scenarios (Werewolf and submarine themed) and was pleasantly surprised with the complexity and number of puzzles (just the right amount). We were a group of 4 and I think it was the right number of players for these 2 games, recommend for anyone in the area + you get 10% off your second room done in the same visit 🙂

Already done over 50 escape rooms including some really good ones, so I tried not to expect too much of this one, but I really liked it! Did the werewolf room with 2 players. Make sure you check the adress since they have 2 adresses (just 30meters apart, but still). Friendly host who welcomed us. Beautiful room, solid story, some really cool puzzles I had not seen before. We made it with 1 minute left, I think. Make sure you ask for hints if you feel like you are really stuck. We asked for a hint at a certain puzzle we could not complete which would have taken us maybe 10 more minutes (maybe 30 even:p), but overall I feel like we rushed through most puzzles pretty well. It is not as good as some of the better escape rooms we did in the Netherlands, but if you really are an escape room enthusiast, this one is also worth it:) Would not recommend this specific room to beginners, but they have other rooms as well.

Anja and Naja are THE BESTTTTT we are the women’s national hockey team and we had the best two nights with the pub crawl ❤️❤️

Perfect pubcrawl. Anya takes you trough a great pub crawl with great bars and selection of beers. You get a varied selection of propels to meet with +50 persons and end up on the largest club I the city. Could only recommend as long as Anya is the Guide. Haven’t tried anything else.
Hjalte M — Google review
Loved the pub crawl! The games were super fun and a great way to meet new people. Karaoke was a blast, and we ended the night dancing at two spots, including a club with Slovenian music! Discovered so many local gems! Huge shoutout to Maya!!!!

The pub crawl was amazing. I would definelty recommend going! Domen, Mina and Max WERE AMAZING!!!!!! absolutely the best tour guides in town. THIS IS A MUST DO IN LJUBANA.
Axel G — Google review
Im not really satisfied with the experience i had yesterday. The main guide was sometimes hard to hear/understand even when standing close, there were not many girls. If not for Mina i would put 1 star but she was a total sweetheart. Shots were light at best and even then i didnt get one at the third bar. Karaoke was cool- maybe a little poorly ventilated.
Lilly S — Google review
It was great! I got so many shots. Karaoke was really fun and the guides were really helpful and awesome! Domen & Mina are the best!!!!
Bart B — Google review
Good overall. I did it and thought I wouldn't want to do it again... and then I did it again 🤣 the vibe depends on the energy of the people who show up. If it doesn't pass your vibe check, you can leave and/or meet at the next spot. If you stay, you get schnapps shots at 4 spots. Ljubljana is chill on Sunday night so I enjoyed it more, with bars cleaner and less crowded. My guides were Joey, Gina, and Michael and they were awesome. NGL, the first couple of games were kinda cringe. I feel like the challenge card needs more tourist-local interactions. In my opinion, Parlament can be really hit or miss as the last spot because it can get ratchet and I have clubs like that at home. Maybe offer an option more lowkey like the jazz bar across the street if it's open ("Parlament is our last spot, we will stay here, you're free to check out this other spot if you like something different" sort of thing). I also would have loved a spot with Slovenian club music because I don't have that at home.

I can’t recommend this place enough! From the moment we walked in, the energy was electric. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and super knowledgeable — they took the time to give us a thorough safety rundown and actually taught us how to throw like pros (or at least not like total amateurs 😄).

Embark on an unforgettable adventure in Slovenia with the Bear Watching tour, where you'll have the chance to observe brown bears in their natural habitat. Departing from Ljubljana's Kolodvorska ulica, knowledgeable guides lead you to a forest observatory for a thrilling opportunity to witness these majestic creatures up close. Visitors rave about the professionalism of the tour, praising its organization and clear communication.
Before we drove to the hide, we had an interesting presentation on the local bears and other wildlife. They made sure that everyone had silent, no flash cameras, which we were grateful for (hides sometimes have to be shared in the high season). We were then led to the hide by our very experienced and competent guide. At first we only saw foxes (though it was also nice to see their natural behaviours), but our patience was rewarded. We saw 4 juvenile bears in total, which was an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend bringing a good quality pair of binoculars, as you can see quite far from the hide. We had to leave whilst the bears were still out as it was getting dark, but our guide made sure this was done in a calm and safe manner. Definitely recommend!
Sally A — Google review
We went into the forest with a guide, and waited in a hut for two hours. It was quiet, and you could only listen to the woods and observe the animals. After an hour, two little foxes were playing in front of us. And after some time, a beautiful bear came to eat. It was a truly wonderful experience, that felt like a meditation. I totally recommend this trip.
Angelo R — Google review
It was a wonderful moment when the bear appeared after an hour and twenty minutes. It was a joy to see this wild animal, even though they feed it in this area. However, I find the price a bit excessive; €100 per person would have been more than enough.
Nicolas M — Google review
A unique chance to go out into natural forest which could not have been done without our guide Janis (John). It was really important to learn about the Slovenian bears and meeting them as part of our tour was a privilege. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Una F — Google review
One thing very high on our ‘to see’ list during the roadtrip through Slovenia were bears. We didn’t expect they would cross our path and were too scared to run into them in the woods. So we decided to go for this excursion. Which we didn’t regret at all! We had a warm welcome at the meeting point. Had an excellent guide who, after 1,5 hour, spoke the magic words: “Meet bear”. It was very much worth the money as well as the waiting. It might seem a little scary to go into the forest but at the end is was very safe. Greetings from Holland Jeroen and Annie
Jeroen G — Google review
Nice tour but I recommend to book directly with the organizers (google the tourist office in Loz) to save money. We overpaid for two people by about 120 euros (398 vs 280 euros) - the organizers offers discounts based on group size
Floris S — Google review
WOW, EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME! Spoilers ahead so read no further if you don’t want to ruin your visit! Everything about this tour was so professional. The website is really easy to use and sets out clear expectations. I’ve done a lot of research on brown bear watching in Europe (Estonia, Romania etc) and this is the most well organised and well priced one I’ve found. Trust me! Communication from the team was faultless, multiple email reminders, easy email contact, and clear instructions. The meeting point in Loz is very handy, just over an hour from Bled. And of course it’s some way away - bears are very shy and like to live in remote areas! I really recommend bear watching in Slovenia as it is done ethically and by professionals. Slovenes care deeply about protecting nature and biodiversity. In the tour, we first received a very interesting and knowledgeable guide of brown bears in Slovenia. Lots of unique cultural context that cannot easily be found online - the team are the real deal and have over 14 years experience this was very clear when we entered the forest, the anticipation was rising! Driving deep into the forest was so thrilling, where we came upon the wildlife hide. From there, it was very comfortable to Relax, enjoy the forest, and wait…. We were very lucky that even though in July temperatures, of mid-30 degrees Celsius it’s very hot for the bears - just after 8pm the bears arrived. Be patient! Seeing the bears is a dream come true, I cannot explain how special it is. They are just beautiful. But they are very, very shy - do not wear perfume for your visit because they will smell you and run away. I am confused by the reviews complaining about language barrier. As I stated, English communication was perfect with the team, and you should not speak in the forest as the bears will be disturbed. We managed to communicate great, thank you Janis. My photos aren’t amazing as I have some on my SD card of my camera- these are just from an iPhone! But they can never truly capture the magic of seeing brown bears in real life. Do not miss this opportunity of a LIFETIME!

Partizanska tiskarna Slovenija is a truly remarkable destination that showcases the immense bravery of those involved in the resistance. When exploring this printing works, visitors are met with an awe-inspiring testament to the values of freedom of expression and press freedom in a democratic society. This site serves as a powerful memorial to these fundamental rights, offering a poignant reminder of their significance and the sacrifices made to uphold them.
Andrej took incredible time and care to show the site to my friend and I at the end of a very long day. His enthusiasm for the historical importance of the press was evident, and this visit was a highlight of our trip to Slovenia! Will be back.
Evan C — Google review
Let me share my mistakes when visiting this place so you don’t have to. 1) if you are coming from the north, don’t follow the Google Maps suggested route unless you want to drive on a gravel road up a mountain for 45 minutes. Instead, drive to this place from Idrija. That is a much nicer drive and is paved the entire way. 2) once you arrive at the location, be prepared for a 20 minute walk straight down the mountain. The path is very very steep with multiple switchbacks. I’m sad to report we never made it to the actual printing press because we were not prepared for such a hike. We were wearing jeans with regular trainers, had no water or hiking sticks, and were carrying umbrellas bc it was drizzling. If I had known it was going to be a significant hike down from the parking spot, we would have dressed appropriately and been able to make it the whole way down. But we turned around about 2/3 the way through because we knew the ascent was going to be very tough with no water and no hiking equipment. We hope to make it back again better prepared. Hopefully this information will help you be better prepared too.

Must see. But beware of the stiff and long walk

(Translated by Google) A beautifully located (although high up, you need to be in good shape) place with a fascinating history. The guide was very engaged and friendly, we understood what he was saying even without a translator. It is worth visiting this place and realizing how much courage and sacrifice it took to run such a printing house and maintain the conspiracy (because the Germans never found it and the captured couriers did not reveal the secret).

(Translated by Google) Probably the best preserved and authentic heritage from the times of the partisan movement in our country. A monument to the fight for the Slovenian language, freedom of the press, and much, much more than that. In these times we live in, a visit is especially necessary and inspiring! The guide and caretaker Andrej took all the time in this world to explain everything to us, hospitably show us around, demonstrate (including how both printing presses work), and answer countless questions. An invaluable experience that we recommend to everyone!

(Translated by Google) To reach the partisan printing press, you have two options, both accessible on foot and by car. At the Vojsko crossroads, turning left takes you to an easy and mostly paved road. After 2 km, it will lead you to a short but steep road that leads down to the printing press. The hike can then continue to the partisan cemetery, another 2 km through a relaxing and verdant countryside. The right-hand path, however, is more difficult by car but much easier on foot. The printing press is extremely interesting, well-preserved, and, if you find an attendant, it's thrilling to see the printers in action. A piece of European anti-fascist history passes through here. Stop by! Passateci !

(Translated by Google) We really didn't know where we were going and what we would find. We started from the assumption that if the map marks it, it could be something important. Well, we weren't disappointed. Partisan printing house, during World War II. We landed in a fantastic place. The lady running the museum does a great job. He presents and tells everything, he just tells tirelessly. With a comfortable walk, expect a program of about 2-3 hours. A múzeumot bemutató hölgy nagyszerű munkát végez. Mindent bemutat mesél, csak mesél fáradhatatlanul. Kényelmes sétával kb.2-3órás programmal számoljunk.
