With only 1 day to squeeze in as much activities as you can, we strategically grouped the must-sees, Egeskov Castle and The Funen Village with surrounding point of interests to make sure you don’t leave Odense without getting the most bang for your time. Combining the average time spent at each location and traveling time in between, it should fill up about 8 hours of your day.

Egeskov Castle is a 16th-century turreted and moated castle located in Denmark, representing the opulence of the country's 'Golden Age'. Visitors can explore furnished rooms inside the castle and wander through its expansive 15-hectare garden, which features family-friendly activities such as treetop rope courses, mazes, and a playground. The estate also houses museums displaying an impressive collection of antique vehicles.
What a fantastic experience! With several big creative playgrounds and great Interactive exhibitions. Ranging from classic cars and motorbikes to tours of the renaissance castle, with a lot of history to soak you into a brilliant day in the castle garden where you can see alot of different gardenv varieties and end up getting lost in the huge labyrinth.

A lovely castle, gardens museum and play areas. I went most looking forward to the castle but was pleasantly surprised by the size of the play area and the museum and particularly the collection of historical cars. The amount of activities for younger kids to keep them busy was great as well with lots of variety.

✨ Don’t Miss Titania’s Palace at Egeskov Castle ✨ Created by Sir Nevile Wilkinson, Titania’s Palace is a breathtaking dollhouse with 18 rooms and over 3,000 miniature objects. LEGO is the last owner and Today, Egeskov Castle hosts it in a dedicated space, where it continues its original purpose: raising funds for children’s charities worldwide. A masterpiece of imagination that also carries a message of generosity.
Adalis F — Google review
I would give 10 stars if I could. Initially thought the cost was a bit steep compared to other places we'd visited in Denmark. Enjoyed the gardens but hadn't expected the displays if vintage/old and very interesting cars, bikes, motorbikes, helicopters to be so extensive. 2 whole 'sheds' contained exhibits that were covered in dust as insufficient room to display.
Mark W — Google review
It is a beautiful and well maintained place. There are many activities and places inside the area, not just the castle. I would recommend this for garden-lovers (there are so many beautiful gardens) and family with smaller children. The value for history-lovers is somewhat doubtful. One can buy a ticket excluding the castle, but not the other way around. And while it is logical, the price is really excessive if all you are after is the castle.
Daniel O — Google review
Totally worth a visit, beautiful place with a lot to do. You could easily spend a whole day at this place. Perfekt for garden lovers and families. The huge exhibition of old cars/bikes is especially exciting. Ticket price is fair.

Visiting Egeskov Castle was one of the highlights of my trip to Denmark. Nestled in the beautiful countryside of Funen, this place is so much more than just a historic castle—it's a full-day experience packed with charm, culture, and fun for all ages. The castle itself is absolutely stunning, with its fairytale-like architecture surrounded by a peaceful moat. Walking through the beautifully preserved rooms feels like stepping back in time

One of the best house and gardens we have been to. Lots for all the family, young and old. The motor museum was really good. The Dahlias were outstanding

Nestled just outside the bustling city center of Odense, The Funen Village, or Den Fynske Landsby, is a captivating open-air museum that transports visitors back to the 19th century. This enchanting destination features over 25 meticulously preserved half-timbered houses and historical buildings that reflect rural Danish life during Hans Christian Andersen's era. As you stroll through this picturesque village set against a stunning natural backdrop, you'll gain insight into the cultural and historical roots of Funen.
This an interesting place to see the older style architecture of Denmark developed as if a village and all contained in a relatively small area. The adjoining restaurant/cafe provides tasty food and drinks, so also worth a visit.
Mal J — Google review
I loved the experience specially as foreigner got to experience village style house of Europe and traditional construction of different times.
Karthika L — Google review
One of the most interesting and enjoyable experiences I’ve ever had. The farm buildings are so full of cool things to see and learn about, I could go back many times. My only comment, and this is not a criticism by any means, is without historical interpreters - the places feels somewhat listless. Granted that takes staffing and money- both of which are hard to come by, but I’d say that this visit made my entire Denmark vacation worthwhile.

A great experience, a small Danish Pompeii of the 1700-1800. Talk with the old people here and there, they really offer great gems on history and knowledge, I finally understood why old danish houses are done the way they were done. Great for kids also. Highly recommended for anyone doing an on the road holiday through Danemark.

Great place to spend some time, nature, old houses and atmosphere. Food and drinks at then inn are great and ample parking available.

It's a cute museum which helps you get a better grip on what life was like on Funen some 150-200 years ago. Especially fun with children. I liked the spin they put on the experience relating things to sustainability and circularity.
Floris H — Google review
Interesting to learn about the life of Danish gamers and villagers in the 19th century. Unfortunately no guides during the week and all tekst is in Danish. You can use the Useeum app for English explanation with every building

A nice way to explore the past. A relaxing atmosphere and super chill farm animals. It's a good way to experience nature and fresh air, see some super interesting old buildings and have some exercise. Lots of place to eat what one brings from home but I'm glad we forgot ours and experienced the restaurant inside

Restaurant
Sortebro Kro is a French-inspired Danish restaurant situated on Overgade in Odense. It offers a great vibe with delicious dishes and excellent French-style cuisine. The restaurant has received positive reviews for its excellent sushi, seafood, and Japanese dishes. Located near the Fynske Landsby, Sortebro Kro provides a romantic dining experience and is considered one of the best restaurants in Odense, Denmark.
A nice, cozy, very “Danish” place. Here you can enjoy a great selection of seasonal dishes made with local ingredients. They have a wide array of Danish beers and nice wines. We had the Pentecost menu, featuring smoked eel with scrambled eggs, crispy plaice fillet, and lightly smoked salmon with roe. For the main course, we tried both the pike-perch with smoked mussel sauce and the summer buck with browned butter potatoes – both were excellent. Dessert was a refreshing mix of rhubarb, strawberries, and buttermilk sorbet. Beautiful presentation and fantastic flavors. Highly recommended!

A very nice boutique restaurant in Odense, the inside has a rustic feel and warm atmosphere. The staff were lovely and took the time to help with any translations and suggestions, also very accommodating to vegetarian requirements. The food was too tier - we had a lot of duck on our trip but this was the best duck dish in my opinion, the small things like the bread was also amazing would thoroughly recommend the focaccia!

Amazing ambience, fantastic food. We followed the chef’s menu. The best soup and wild duck i had ever had. So amazed.

We celebrated our wedding here in the Bomhuset and it could not have been more perfect! Attention had been paid to every detail and we cannot commend the staff highly enough for looking after us so well. The food was exceptional, the setting stunning and everyone in our party had a wonderful afternoon celebrating. We will be coming back for our anniversary!

I recently dined at this restaurant and had a wonderful experience. The beef was exceptional - the meat was of great quality and the ingredients were clearly very fresh. Additionally, the staff member who sliced the bread was very handsome and patiently introduced me to different types of Danish bread. The only minor flaw was that my dining companion and I accidentally ordered raw meat, which resulted in some discomfort due to eating it cold. In addition, raw meat is odourless due to its high quality. However, this was our own mistake and not a reflection of the restaurant's quality. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant. The architecture style is also very beautiful and adds to the overall dining experience.
ZX C — Google review
Nice ambiance, but the setting of the menu in my opinion, it’s not really reasonable. Especially at the end came twice with the sorbets, i mean you can arrive at the same time but no need to separate. Maybe the chef was trying to show the creativity that sorbets in different ways. The cod fish soup with purée, it’s quite strange for me also. Honestly, for me the note is 7/10. I did love the service, the exchange with the Copenhagen boy was interesting. The team is with the young people, they put their hearts on it.

5-star no doubt! It is located at the edge of the Den Fynske Landsby (Funen village). It has both Restaurant(formal dinning) and Cafe (casual). My family chose the Cafe after visiting the Fynske. The food was so taste and prepared in fresh. The cafe actually locates in the village with open lawn and white table sets. Gorgeous atmosphere. Such a great lunch. Definitely recommend to my friends.

Family restaurant
Jensens Bøfhus is a family-friendly restaurant that offers a calm and relaxed setting, making it suitable for new mothers looking for a quiet place to settle down with their baby. The outdoor space is lovely and can easily accommodate both families and big groups without reservations. The staff is friendly and accommodating, even towards pets. While the food may not be considered fancy, it is tasty, and the service is initially nice and fast.
Great experience. We have had "all you can eat" (ribs and various potatoes) and it was excellent. Desert (belgian chocolate cake) was amazing.

A bit prizy for the type of served food. Atmosphere could be cozier. Ordered a burger without bacon but was served one with bacon. I returned it n got a new burger without it. The people with wanted to wait eating until I received mine.

Lovely outdoor space and they were able to accommodate our group of four adults and three kids easily with no reservation. The food wasn’t anything fancy but it was tasty and the server was very friendly. The kids loved the ice cream, play room, and the coloring books! It also had very easy parking for our friends towing a camper. Perfect place for families and big groups.

Food is good and the portions leave you full. Prices are cheaper than most other restaurants in Denmark. Staff very friendly. The large coke really is large!
Wilf H — Google review
had some take-away which was good, but the take-away area looked old, dusty and even had spiderweb... not the normal experience you get on their Læssøegade location.. so was a little disappointing.. but food was good
Kasper ( — Google review
Very long wait to get the table we had reserved. They didn't just clear off our table, but kept clearing off table after table and then setting table after table, ending with hours. Standing there with a 3 and 5 year old, this was a bit annoying. After about 15 min. we finally got to sit. From then on, everything was fine.
Kim L — Google review
The decor is horrid. While the walls are very pretty, the ice cream bar is a terrible purple, there are fake trees with LEDs in the middle of the restaurant, and ugly paintings on the wall. The service was very slow, but politely so. The meat was very tender, but as you can see, it was far from rare, which was what I'd ordered. It was also very salty. Lastly, the portion size was very small for my taste. They obviously intend for you to order the 30 kroner salad bar add-on, but if you don't want to, you'll probably leave hungry if you order one of the standard size beefs. For what you get this is way overpriced.
