Fortress
The Conjunto Monumental de la Alcazaba de Almería is an enduring fortress with protective stone walls surrounding an ancient compound, now housing historical exhibits. This 10th-century citadel is one of the most impressive in medieval Islamic al-Andalus and second in size only to Granada's Alhambra.
This fortress exceeded every expectation we had! It is huge and in really good condition. The gardens are gorgeous, and it also offers an amazing view over the whole city. Would definitely recommend it! It takes about 1 hour to see everything, but you can easily spend 3.
Vincent B — Google review
We spent a few enjoyable hours exploring this historic site, and it was definitely worth it! One of the best parts is being able to walk up the towers and take in stunning panoramic views over Almería. As EU citizens, we got in for free, which was a great bonus. Non-EU visitors pay a small entry fee of €1.50, which is still excellent value. Just a heads-up: check the opening times before you go, especially in summer. The Alcazaba typically closes in the afternoon and reopens around 7 pm, so timing your visit makes all the difference!
Stefano — Google review
This Alcazaba is really beautiful. I was shocked that it was free to enter. Lovely place to walk around even if the hill to get there is a bit steep! Definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area. Gives you a wonderful view of the town, port and sea.
Becky W — Google review
A must see place when in Almeria. It is a little bit like Alhambra in Granada, but smaller. However, we only visited part.of it, not where the terraced garden is; therefore, potentially it's much more than what we saw. It was free to enter where we went and visiting earlier in the day is worth it to beat the crowd. It's popular with tour groups. Great view of the city from the top. There are areas where excavation had taken place to study its history.
E D — Google review
Beautiful place to visit while in Almería, surprisingly large fortress, easy walk but no for wheelchair users. Only accessible by stairs. Very nice area to see all Almería and the docks. Quite interesting story and a nice place to wonder around and take nice photos. Free entry!
Ana L — Google review
The Conjunto Monumental de la Alcazaba in Almería is absolutely worth visiting and a true highlight of the city. This monumental complex offers a fascinating journey through centuries of history, from Moorish fortifications to Christian influences. The grounds are extensive, with well-preserved walls, beautiful gardens, and plenty of architectural details to admire. One of the best parts is that entry is free, which makes it accessible to everyone and a perfect choice for a leisurely afternoon. A visit here is not just about history – it’s also about the experience of walking through wide open spaces, taking in breathtaking panoramic views of Almería, the coastline, and even the surrounding mountains. It’s a place where you can take your time, enjoy a peaceful walk, and let your imagination travel back to times when the Alcazaba was a powerful stronghold. However, there are a couple of practical things to be aware of. Parking near the Alcazaba can be challenging, and the area directly behind the castle doesn’t give the best impression. There’s some visible criminal activity, a fair amount of litter, and groups of young people hanging around, which can feel a bit uncomfortable at times. That said, these issues are outside the main complex and do not take away from the beauty and historical importance of the Alcazaba itself. Overall, if you’re visiting Almería, the Alcazaba is a must-see. It combines history, culture, stunning views, and free entry – a perfect combination for anyone interested in exploring the city’s heritage.
Dorian N — Google review
We had free entry on the day, not sure why. The guy asked us where we are from and let us in for free 😊 Really interesting to visit. We relaxed there walking around for about 1.5h.
Kasia M — Google review
Great views of Almería and an interesting site. Most of the informational packages are in Spanish. A few have English translations. You can also download a guide in a variety of languages. It was hot at the end of August and there are lots of stairs to climb! Bring water!

Historic Sites
Cathedral Encarnación de Almería is a Gothic and Renaissance Catholic cathedral that was constructed in the 16th century with the dual purpose of serving as a defensive fortress. It is the only structure of its kind in Andalusia, featuring a blend of Renaissance and Gothic styles. The cathedral's chunky turrets and buttresses were designed to repel attacks from Berber pirates and rebelling Moors during the 16th century.
Great place to visit especially outside of weekends and holiday season. Beautiful views and wonderful history. Do yourself a favour and visit.
Albert R — Google review
Absolutely beautiful cathedral made of huge and imposing stone. It’s €7 to enter the Cathedral each and €10 to also see the monastery. There is a large range of religious art and statues inside the building. High vaulted ceilings and shrines everywhere you look. I find it interesting to be in such an opulent place that is littered with donation boxes - never fails to amuse me. The atmosphere is also quite somber and quiet in my opinion - a certain eerie quality when a huge church is so silent and dark.
Phoebe D — Google review
Beautiful cathedral in the heart of Almería . The Cathedral is free during mass and usually on Sundays . Beautiful experience . You can feel the Holy Spirit all around .
Travellingaround — Google review
Beautiful and unique cathedral right in the heart of Almería. Its fortress-like design makes it stand out, and the mix of Gothic and Renaissance architecture is really impressive. Peaceful inside, with some lovely details and a quiet courtyard. Definitely worth a visit if you’re exploring the city!

I recently passed by the Cathedral Encarnación de Almería, and even though I didn't have time to go inside, I was truly impressed by its exterior. The cathedral looked stunning, especially with the beautiful decorations around it. The architecture is striking, and the intricate details are captivating. I’m looking forward to visiting again soon to explore the interior and capture some photos. Definitely a must-see landmark in Almería!

Tapas bar
Bar
European restaurant
Casa Puga is a historic tapas bar in Almeria, dating back to 1870. The ambiance is lively and inviting, with traditional decor including hanging jamones and shelves filled with bottles and cheeses. While the service can be casual, the atmosphere is buzzing. The bar offers free tapas with a glass of wine or beer, and also serves substantial half raciones of grilled kidneys, fried fish, octopus, and more.
Casa Puga Almeria, is one of the best spots in town! The food is amazing, simple as that. It's some of the most authentic tapas I've had in my life. The atmosphere is super traditional too, the kind of place that makes you feel like you're stepping back in time. The staff are friendly, they made me feel so welcome as soon as I walked in the door.

Great traditional tasca bar in Almería. If you’re not from here is a must, great tapas and drinks, very cheap and so beautiful to see too.
Sofia M — Google review
A recommended tapas bar to visit when in Almeria. Mostly locals and the food are fantastic! Drinks comes with something to nibble and you can order additional. In our case we got free garlic mushrooms. It opens at 8:30 pm and customersare already waiting outside before the doors are open. Better come early if you want a table, a bit of a scrumble to get it. The bar itself gets crowded with walk in customers throughout the evening

A visit to almeria has to include this tapas bar the oldest in almeria. Amazing fresh tapas cooked in front of you. Buzzing busy authentic love it
Christine L — Google review
Very popular with tourists and locals alike, so always expect a big crowd. There was even a queue 30 mins before the place opened. I went twice on different days, and both times they didn’t have pulpo and ternera… Why put them on the menu if you don’t serve them? 💔
T C — Google review
I don’t understand how this place can have 5 stars reviews. I just went there and I have never seen a place as dirty as this one. We had 4 plates on the table and all plates and cutleries had stains of food on them. The worst part was the fact that I had 3 glasses that I couldn’t drink from. Very dirty, very cloudy and full of stains. I understand if it was one but all 3 were disgusting. I took picture only to one of them. The food was same. Very plain and no effort at all. The gambas pil pil was made in sunflower oil instead of olive oil, no taste at all. Also when cooking, without gloves, they were scratching their heads and then touching the food again. Horrible! I was so excited to be in Almeria and I swear this was the worst food experience so far.
Ioana T — Google review
I accidentally passed by this beautiful restaurant today, and it was a wonderful and interesting experience. I saw that tourists who don't speak Spanish gave it a low rating in the comments, and I think they may not understand how to order food correctly. I don't understand Spanish either, but through Google and other guests' explanations, the food on the tapas page here is that every alcoholic drink comes with a free tapa, and if you order extra, it's 2 euros each. We ordered four alcohol drinks, 6 tapas, and a fried shrimp, which added up to about 26 euros.
J K — Google review
On a hot, sunny Friday, they couldn't open on time, didn't have the decency to care enough for the people waiting outside in the sun and be timely. I sat there for 40 minutes (which was already past their supposed opening time) and gave up in the end. The minimum they could have done would be to offer the 10-12 people waiting in the heat a drink or something until they could get the place ready. Abysmal customer service.

Refugios de la Guerra Civil Española de Almería is a small museum dedicated to the Spanish Civil War, offering an immersive experience through its exhibits and audiovisual displays. It was the last stronghold of the Republican government during the war and served as a protective shelter for over 34,000 civilians.
One of the most amazing places I have ever visited! Fascinating, Historical, Important, Scary, mysterious, intriguing and impressive. It was easy to book on-line on the web a few days before our visit. I recommend this. The entry kiosk is very small and you have to look closely to see the entry door. Amazing architectural engineering. The member of staff who led our tour was passionate and informative. (The tour is given in Spanish, and the guide kindly interpreted a little into English for us, as Spanish is not our first language). It starts with a video, and there are English subtitles on the video. You must see this place, Hopefully it helps us all think carefully about preserving peace in our lives.
Damian R — Google review
A view of Almería from a very different perspective, so definitely worth a visit, especially as it's only a 3€ entry. Book tickets in advance, since the capacity per timeslot is limited. The roughly 1 hour tour is given in Spanish (which I could follow), and a short summary in English was given at the end. For other tourists it might be better if there was one designated English tour, since the summary might feel a bit short to some.
Ana Ć — Google review
We enjoyed our visit to the tunnels. A fascinating historical tour that details what various persons went through during the wars and how the persons hid underground. Make sure you book tickets in advance though we managed to get tickets on the day within a few minutes of the start of the tour. Add this to your list when visiting Almeria.
CHARLES A — Google review
The tunnels are really interesting but you need to visit with a tour and the tour availability and booking seems very confusing and complicated? Also no English tours? We were very lucky to be at the door when a guide was looking for more people for a tour. It was mostly in Spanish but Amelio was great to summarise information in English for us.
Vincent O — Google review
If your in Almería town definately check out this very interesting historic tour. We had a great guide, some good stories and interesting facts. I would definately this 1.5 hour tour that covers about 1km of tunes.
Andrew ( — Google review
Quite the unique experience. Yes, the tour is in Spanish (there are some English information boards and subtitles) but that’s fine... it’s still something you’ll not experience anywhere else! A trip 90m below the city... through remarkable tunnels that still have the ambience of safety and fear combined. And don’t expect to end up where you started! €3 currently, pre-booked tours. Worth every cent!!
Jay L — Google review
Great place to visit. Easy to park nearby in underground parking. Cheap entrance at €3 and there is a lift for people who can't do the stairs. About one hour tour in Spanish.
Franziska E — Google review
Very different to you normally see as a tourist, not much English spoken though, which is a shame..up to 30,000 people hid in this 2 kilometres of underground air raid shelters, it was attached to the market, and could store foodstuffs, there was also a small hospital and a school....there is a lift / elevator, both ways ( up and down) but you will need to ask! 2019 it cost 2 euros....

A great park that seems endless, if your children are under 8 they'll enjoy it. The rides are old and some parts of the park need better looking after. Stopped here on a whim after a night of tapas. Glad I did. They serve a sweet milk based aperitif called an americano. Quite different from what I as an American have come to expect the drink to be but nonetheless it was SUPREMELY delicious and a perfect night cap. What a wonderful experience.

Honestly the best place we visited in our 10day Almería trip. The kind waiter explained the below average reviews but I honestly don’t get why. We tipped him cuz everything was perfect, we had great food and a fast and very pleasant service (our waiter spoke English very fluently). The quesadillas with pollo and queso were very good for €1 !!! Greatly underrated and highly recommended! We ate plenty and payed €82,5 with 6 persons.
Robbe P — Google review
We visited La Plazuela in Almería hoping for a delightful tapas experience. While some of the tapas were genuinely tasty, the overall service left much to be desired. The staff seemed largely inattentive, and we found ourselfs having to ask for table service and reminding of our orders, which was a bit disappointing. Particularly, the presentation of the Russian salad was notably lackluster und rudely suggestive. Could be a hit or miss depending on what you order and your service expectations.
Jana W — Google review
I'd strongly recommend going elsewhere for food. The service is unfriendly, the kitchen takes forever to produce food, including tapas, and the food quality is ordinary. There are other similarly priced places close by that would be worth trying.

We had an absolutely amazing dining experience at this Almeria tapas restaurant! The food was exquisite, with a wide variety of delicious small plates to choose from. We had a very dinner, with chicken skewers, meatballs, Hummus, bread, minced meat triangle pastry. It was very yummy. We drank a homemade lemon/mint ice tea which was super refreshing. Service was very good and the two ladies makes you feel like you are visiting your aunt 🥰😊

After 10 years of absence, I returned to this restaurant with my wife and three-year daughter. The waiter welcomed us with a large smile 😊, he suggested several tables then picked a good table for us. Yes the food took some time to come, since it's cooked not frozen or heated it was worth the wait 😋 👌, the nice old lady (I assume owner of the restaurant) gave my wife sweets free of charge as a gift, she adored my daughter and was all the time treating her like as if it was hers ❤️❤️, the food was amazing (after 10 years) the same high quality and taste 🤗, the service was amazing with a wonderful smile of the gentleman 🙏🙏. Big love from Tunisia to Morocco ❤️

Wow! Amazing food and you forget you are not in Morocco. Vegetarian choices are many and delicious! we had a really lovely lunch here today, it is such a lovely tea shop with a properly traditional feel to it. we had the mint lemonade, which was so delicious and refreshing, then for food we had the chicken shish kebabs. we asked for a few more food items as well, but they got lost in translation - our fault for only knowing the most basic of spanish - the staff were lovely and accommodating despite our language barrier, and the chicken kebabs were incredible! they brought us bread and olives on the house, and two sweet treats after we paid as well. all in all, really lovely, we’ll have to scrub up our language skills and head back to try the rest of the menu!

Lovely experience. Good food and an endless list of wines, with the wine cellar open to visitors. Attention to the guests from waiters, qualified and kind. Balanced price for the food quality, place, and attention. Recommended. Unusual thing from a Spanish Restaurant: good vegetables.

Very unique experience to have a meal inside the mountain. The price of the food is quite expensive for the food - including thr meat. The service is good , however it is still measing some professionalism of the service. The restaurant has around 3 sections or the mountain insdide- 2 are hall with tables in and the last one is more like a private area.

Eaten here for over 30 years. Superb food, service and atmosphere. Nicholas and Sinfo run an excellent restaurant, that serves top quality food at reasonanle prices.
Denandphil H — Google review
Really wonderful restaurant! The ambience is so different and romantic. I loved it. The menu is not too long - which means that the dishes they make are perfectly curated and done. The food we ate was delicious! And the prices are very decent, even lower than what we expected compared to the quality you get and the lovely treatment by the waiters. (Salad, 2 main dishes, a glass of beer, a glass of wine, dessert and a glass of gin for 75e) It deserves more than 5 stars :) Whoever comes to Almeria or Aguadulce should visit this place.
Jovana R — Google review
As a couple we have been coming here for 30 years, my wife has been a visitor for over 40 years. The food, wines and service are exceptional. Nicholas and Sinfo run a well oiled machine that serves excellent food that is reasonably priced. In my opinion you can't better this restaurant in Andalucia.

Cool and unique restaurant. They don't serve any sides so if you like having something to eat with your steak it's best to order it (though the meat is so delicous you don't really need it)

Centro Comercial Mediterráneo is a spacious and modern complex in Almeria, offering a variety of boutiques, a supermarket, and restaurants. It's a great place for families with plenty to explore. The market area offers diverse produce to sample and cafes provide a relaxing spot to enjoy some churros. Additionally, there are shops downstairs featuring an array of items including fish. While not the largest mall in Almeria, it is well-maintained with ample parking space.
Not the biggest one in Almeria but very nice and clean.Plenty of parking place...The Alcampo is huge here with thousends of items...There is couple of restaurant and cinema as well. And the enviroment is beautiful around the building. The location is also great if you are here in Almeria...

Today I had my appointment to secure residency in Spain in the centre of Almería. Worried about parking, I was advised to use the Centro Comercial. During my dry run last week, and today I parked there underground in the cool, and on both occasions bought delicious things to eat and drink in Alcampo. Couldn't be happier to shop there having got to know the chain in Motril many years ago. They even have an outlet for my favorite clothing chain, Tommy Hillfiger. Could be happier...
Chris S — Google review
Its a light airy mall with good selection of shops..low mark is for failure to provide some seating for those who need them whilst their partners wonder round the shops. A small cost that would make this a better experience.
Major S — Google review
We use this store because it has a large selection of gluten free products . We used the self service till. Although all the instructions were in Spanish, it was easy to use . If we did have a problem then the shop assistant was straight there to help. Will definitely go back again.a

Lots of shops was a bit disappointed with the food area we were there at 12.15pm & there was only one cafe open

Horrible, small and unfriendly staff. We went with our very small dog, and they kicked us out after two hours. They claimed dogs are not allowed. Also they have one set of restrooms for the whole shopper by center on the second floor. Everything is cramped and only one small elevator. Not exactly disabled friendly. You are better off going to Torrecardenas shopping center.

The Museo de Almería, also known as the Museo Arqueológico, is a modern museum that houses a diverse collection of prehistoric and neolithic crafts, weaponry, and ceramics. It was established in 2006 to showcase the rich historical heritage of the Almeria region from prehistoric times through the Islamic period. The museum's centerpiece is the 13-meter Stratigraphic Column, displaying the city's stages of development.
Fantastic museum, especially if you have visited the Los Millares archaeology site as the findings from there are displayed here with interesting information and well designed displays. I love Spanish museums as they as much art gallery as museum. A real feast for the ears as well as the eyes. It's also free!! Thank you Almería. One tip to the museum - do advertise the los Millares site more and vice versa as I think both would then have many more visitors.

Ever felt the thrill of unearthing a civilization’s secrets? Museo de Almería pulls you into a journey through time, from prehistoric treasures to Islamic artifacts, all housed in a sleek, modern space. Each exhibit feels like a conversation with the past, vibrant and alive. Did you know the museum showcases Europe’s oldest known loom weights, dating back over 4,000 years to the Los Millares culture? This isn’t just a museum it’s a portal to Almería’s ancient soul. A must for history lovers!

Went here with my family (ages from 6 to 40 yo) and we all loved it! It was a lot of very accessible (and free!) knowledge about the history of the area. It has something I've never seen before, which is a visual and physical representation of the soil strates that show the history of the soil of the region, with all the societies that inhabited it. Generally, every single exposition was very well explained and accessible to learn and understand for everyone! Definitely recommend it.
Yeva P — Google review
A very interesting and modern Museum. It shows four eras, beginning from the bronze age to the muslim era in the late middle ages. The entry is free.

We'd seen most other suggested Almeria Old Town attractions and still had some time to kill. Saw the Museo de Almeria was open, so thought, "Why not." So glad we did. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The museum itself is a very well laid out archaeological history of the area. We easily spent over an hour there. As a quality free activity, I'd say this is on the Almerian must see list.
Craig D — Google review
This museum is really interesting. Very open and clean. Indications are top. Toilets are clean. Very good that you can leave your luggage in a locker for 1 euro, you get it back after opening the locker. There are 3 departments of many cool artifacts and history. We prefer the oldest one. The 3rd floor is the Arabic culture. There are also a lot of little videos how they maked grane and other things. It was free when we were there.
S B — Google review
Very good museum! The amount of exhibits is not great but it spans from Paleolithic era to middle ages. Very interesting and unique exhibits!
Yevgeny T — Google review
Wow! The most imaginatively presented archeological museum I've ever visited (and there're been many!) The archeological layers are represented like a core-sample up the central stair-well with chronological finds shown as you go up the flights. Very moving reconstruction of the interior of a burial dolmen. Signage in Spanish and English. Ask at the reception desk if you want to buy the excellent guide book (available in 3 languages) - they're not on display! Very helpful staff.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Faro de Cabo de Gata is a historic lighthouse constructed in 1863, situated on a clifftop offering stunning vistas of the Arrecife de las Sirenas jagged rock formations. This scenic location provides ample parking nearby and the road leading up to the lighthouse is also worth exploring. It's an excellent spot for admiring the sea from high cliffs, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and tourists alike.
A very nice point with cool rocky formations in the sea! Moreover there's a wonderful beach underneath the lighthouse were the sea is very calm and full of fish (you can do some snorkeling in front of the beach and see about 20-30 different fish species, some of them getting as big as 40cm!). If you need the snorkeling gear you can rent it by the lighthouse for 10€ a day.

Restaurante La Tagliatella | CC. Torrecárdenas, Almería is an eatery that specializes in Italian, Mediterranean, Sicilian, and Southern-Italian cuisine. The establishment boasts meticulously designed interiors that instantly transport diners to Italy upon entering. With two locations in Almeria, the restaurant operates from Monday to Sunday with different opening times for lunch and dinner service. On Saturdays, they offer extended hours for both lunch and dinner.
Extremely good restaurant, the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The starters and mains are very tasty . Would recommend

Dined at La Tagliatella in Torre Cardenas, Almeria, and had a truly pleasant experience. The food and service were both commendable, matched by a very nice atmosphere. Overall, a delightful visit that almost hits perfection.
Lily O — Google review
Very slow waitress, never smiled once, and seemed almost irritated to have to serve us. I am truly disappointed in this attitude, and it is a total waste because I have to be honest and commend the food, which is excellent. If the service matched, I would give a 5 star for the food but am reluctant to give more than 4 stars when all is lost on the service; I have felt more welcomed at a Supermarket checkout.
Richard K — Google review
Overpriced food. Our pizzas were thin almost like filo pastry, because of that the filling was also thin, my 4 cheeses pizza had only 2 bits of gorgonzola. The salami pizza was only a Margherita with slices of uncooked salami on top. Not great and not worth the value. They make you wait on arrival.

This place is an absolute gem! When we arrived there was already a cue forming and I see why! The food is delicious and very reasonable priced. Inside it has a lovely feel and service is good. Downsides are limited toilets and one of the orders ( toast with tomatoes spread) was bland. But neither of those things stop me giving this place a well deserved 5 star. Mediterranean restaurant
Bar
Restaurante El Faro is a delightful Mediterranean eatery with stunning views. Despite not having made a reservation, the friendly waitress accommodated us inside, where we still enjoyed a good vantage point. The zucchini salad and crispy toast with sardines were both incredibly flavorful. We also shared the delicious flat iron pork. The staff was amiable, and our food arrived promptly. The only drawback was the difficulty in paying; we had to ask multiple staff members several times.
Terrific restaurant. Loved the food, the staff and the setting

We hadn't booked but the lovely waitress seated us inside on our own, which still had a good view! We had the zucchini salad and the crispy toast (taco) with sardines both were extremely tasty! We shared the flat iron pork which also very good. The staff were friendly and the food came out quite quickly. The only downside was trying to pay, we ask 3 different staff 4 or 5 times. We understand they were busy but as we were paying cash it literally took seconds to do. It certainly wouldn't put me off returning though, that zucchini salad is worth it 😃

Unfortunately, we were rejected a table because "the cafe was full", the next family of 4 was properly seated because of course there was place for them. I don't want to accuse the employee and the cafe of discrimination, but its hard to think of another reason as my mother was wearing an hijab and we are Moroccan. If you are Muslim or against supporting racist practices, do not visit the cafe. If you share the same beliefs, you will feel right at home here.

Amazing! My girlfriend and I went a few minutes before 23:00 in a Saturday, had to wait 3 minutes for a table. We had a bunch of different delicious Tapas that they show and explain to you, as well as beer and wine. The waitress dealing with us was limited in her English, but nonetheless super friendly and eager to help. The prices were great, and as we paid we even got free shots of 'lemon sorbet with sparkling wine'. We will be coming again! Keep up the great work! 11/10 for taste and Etablissement

My friends took me here on my last day in Almeria for a beach day and it was probably the best beach day that I've had abroad. Swimming in the refreshing Mediterranean was just dreamy. Clear waters, pebbly beach and not crowded at all. BYO shade as there are no trees. No public toilets or changing rooms from what I saw. We brought a picnic lunch with lots of water and fruit juice. The park is huge and has many beaches and even a wee township to explore or have food and drinks (will do this next time). Parking is free (on the side of the main road). I think we left at around 8pm. A totally relaxing day at the beach and not far from Almeria at all. I'd totally go back for sure!

This Natural Park is simply breathtaking! Best to explore by foot. Nice beach, very very long ao there's always enough place near the water. There were a lot of waves so we couldn't really understand how nice the sea is. There was a lot of current though, the waves were arriving from multiple directions and there was a yellow flag so...we couldn't really enjoy the water. Moreover the parking place cost 6€, without even having seen the sea. We had to park by the restaurant, which means you have to walk about 10-15 minutes. In my opinion a cute beach, but nothing special, we saw far better beaches around there.
Timur C — Google review
Beautiful, undeveloped beach. Because of bay and direction, water tends to be very still here (even if wavey nearby). Water quite shallow for a fair way out. In October, very quiet. Good short hikes with great views to the SW end. Further South-west end (beyond rock) for nude bathing.

To enter the reserve it was €6. The road is gravel and dry, but is sprayed by a tractor that turns it into a slightly muddy track. Our hire car was covered in thick mud. That should not spoil it. Just a heads up. This beach is beautiful but can get windy, unfortunately from the direction of the land. Our beach towels were covered with sand in no time. Drinks and food were covered. I'm sure it isn't always like this. But we had to abandon our stay.

We headed to the beach from San José, just over a mile from the town, lovely beach with hills on both sides. We walked further west and climbed a small hill overlooking the beach. Heat views of beach and the mountains to the north. Very green and lush. Amazing amount of wild flower species, all beautiful. Walked further west and past some other lively beaches. Has our lunch on one, some of the rock formations were spectacular. Great area will return and recommend.
Bryce M — Google review
A nice and very long beach in walking distance from San José (there are paths from the old windmill, it takes about 20 mins) but reachable by car as well, or public transport in the summer season. During the high season there is a fee per car entering the road. The entrance to the sea is very shallow for about 15 to 20m from the shore. Very nice, fine and soft sand. One of very few beaches that I've seen between Cabo de Gata and San José that have vegetation around - eucalyptus grove, agaves and other plants.

Excellent snorkeling experience, plenty of fish and underwater creatures especially on the margins. Keep aware of the see urchins! Beautiful view from above!

Fantastic beach! There's no sand but very very fine pebbles from every colors which aren't painful under the feet (so no keed for shoes on the beach!). The parking place is pretty big, we've never had problems finding a spot during the week (we always arrived around 16-17). The water is pristine and there's a huge amount of fish near the coast! We counted at least 20 different species which can be see simply by snorkeling. We swam only a couple of cm away from the fish (some of them getting up to 30cm long!). We loved this place!
Timur C — Google review
Awesome spot for snorkelling, saw many fishes here! Water is crystal clear. The beach itself is pebbly but these were comfortable, we didn’t need the shoes. There are no services on this beach however there is a bar/restaurant opposite the road and parking lot where you can buy food/drinks.
Alex B — Google review
Great little beach to snorkel, kayak, paddle board, and swim. Rocks can be a bit much but otherwise is amazing
Steve S — Google review
Nice beach and it's surrounding. Ideal for snorkeling. No services so there is less people. But it is better to bring water shoes because of the large amount of coral near the beach.

A great beach and beutiful fish. The right place to snorkeling !!! Recommended to arrive around 9am cause later it becomes craudy.

Cala Rajá is a scenic beach that is nestled in the embrace of towering cliffs. The azure waters surrounding it are perfect for snorkeling, but getting there can be a challenge due to the rocky path leading up to it. It's recommended that visitors wear appropriate footwear as the first few meters of shoreline are covered with rocks before giving way to sand. Although quite popular during summer, beachgoers may have to contend with an abundance of flies.
Gorgeous relaxing beach. The journey in can be challenging and depending which way you come is not marked. Once you arrive the beach is lovely with big crashing waves and lots of space to relax. Was not too busy when I was there just a couple other groups so was nice and relaxed. No amenities close by so bring everything in with you. I sat for a couple hours then continued exploring the rugged coastline. Great area to spend a day exploring!
Jiggity J — Google review
Difficult to get to although we managed in flip flops and loads of bags. Very relaxed atmosphere, crystal waters, great for snorkeling.
Victoria E — Google review
Would have been a strong 5 stars if it wasn't for the quantity of flies and the quite hard path to get there. Bring hiking shoes. But the beach must say is very beautiful.
Martin O — Google review
Beautiful spot placed between the cliffs. Not to crowded and gorgeous water! Just be carefull when you climb down ;-)

Chris D — Google review
The beach is very nice, water great. The access is a bit difficult, but possible to get even with kids when you find the correct way. Recommended are the shoes for the rocks as at the beginning of the sea there are few meters of rocks only after which sand starts.

Day 4

Off the beaten path
For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Plaza Vieja. Not quite as popular as Cathedral Encarnación de Almería, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Parque Comercial Copo is a bustling shopping destination that offers a diverse range of businesses, making it the go-to place for all your shopping needs. Whether you're looking for retail therapy, dining options like hamburger restaurants, or practical services such as a fuel station and car wash, this commercial park has it all. Visitors have praised the convenience and variety of offerings at Parque Comercial Copo throughout different seasons.
Nice shopping mall. It has a very good coffee shop that I recommend "El Mirador".
Enid P — Google review
Parque Commercial Copo is a great shopping center with a variety of stores. The layout is easy to walk around, and there’s something for everyone, from clothes to electronics. One of the best features is the Tesla Supercharger station, which is very convenient for electric vehicle owners. It’s nice to see a place supporting green options. The only downside is that there could be more dining choices, but overall, the atmosphere is lively and enjoyable. I definitely recommend visiting Parque Commercial Copo for a fun shopping experience!

Historical landmark
Plaza Vieja, a beautiful square in the old town district, underwent renovation in the early 1800s and now features a monument honoring martyrs, as well as city hall and dining establishments. This historic landmark serves as a centerpiece for various special concerts and events that take place here. Although it can become lively during such occasions, generally it remains relatively quiet. The square is also home to an excellent traditional football field.
Very beautifully restored recently. Saw a concert there. The plaza is gorgeous.

Spa
SPA AIRE Ancient Baths Almería is a luxurious spa located in the Old Quarter, where an ancient Arabic baths has been restored to offer visitors a unique experience. The spa offers the traditional Arabic bathing ritual, involving moderate, warm and cold immersions to cleanse both the mind and body. One of its highlights is the wine bath, where guests can soak in different temperature baths before enjoying a private wine bath accompanied by a glass of wine and a head and neck massage.
Love, Love, Love This fabulous hotel. Stayed over a very long weekend. The location, the interior, the room, breakfast, facilities and the spa fantastic, well thought out. Special mention of how gorgeous this place smells, but all praises to the staff especially Mina (front desk) so lovely, warm and welcoming, her local knowledge (food, site seeing & shopping) benefited us greatly. Had an amazing experience. We will be back !

Booked this for a 3 night stay with my bf in February and we fell in love with it! The spa is fantastic, we have been to many and this was probably our favourite so far! Also the heated rooftop pool with views over the old city... wow. An absolute gem of a find for a winter getaway!

Every time i go to Spain, i make a point of visiting aire spas. I’ve been to the one in Barcelona and Seville, and this summer i went to almeria. The wine bath is an absolute must do. You get to soak in the different temperature baths, then get escorted to your private wine bath. During your wine bath, you are given a glass of wine, and they give you a head and neck massage. Afterwards, you get a full body massage. Finally, you go to the rooftop pool where you get another glass of wine and some cheese. You have a great view from this roof which is a plus. Lucia was my masseuse; she was so gentle and had an incredible touch. Thank you!

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Almeria's charming old town, Tetería Almedina Baraka is a delightful Moorish-style tea house that transports you to another world. As you stroll through the sun-drenched streets adorned with vibrant houses, this hidden gem beckons with its colorful decor and inviting atmosphere.
This is my favorite restaurant in Almeria. If you’re a foreigner prepare yourself for slow service because the serving culture is different in Spain. The servers here are sooo nice and’s helpful all you have to do is ask. As for the food: OUTSTANDING. The falafel is the best I’ve ever had in my entire life. Not to mention the atmosphere is beautiful too. I go here every chance I get.
Ryn W — Google review
I had the almond soup, falafel, and hummus. Soup is creamy, garlicky, and nutty. Hummus is smooth with lovely spices. The falafel has a crispy sesame seed coating. All were very good. Try the rooibos tea.

Came to Almeria for our summer holiday and decided to try some Moroccan food for the first time!! The service was great, the staff were very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious!! The location is beautiful, right next to the alcazaba! Extra points for the cute cat as well haha 5/5 recommend!!
Aisha — Google review
While the view is certainly outstanding, the atmosphere in the first floor was definitely not the best, seeing as it's right next to the kitchen and you can hear the clicking and clacking and yelling and all of that. I ordered the homemade fries, which I was assured would be filling and that it'd be a large dish (it wasn't), that cost an absurd 8€ that I regret spending, and the fries took more than 40 minutes to arrive to the table. You'd think that the fries taking more than 40 minutes to cook would be golden brown and perfectly fried, well, you thought wrong, because they arrived looking very pale and a bit undercooked, with the ketchup being a splotch on the side, not even offered for me to use it however I'd like to. The ladies seemed nice and the desserts looked good, but I wouldn't recommend sitting in the first floor nor ordering the +40 minute fries that should cost 4-5€ and little more.

Delicious, good service, large menu. Some of the best food we’ve had in Spain. Go try it! You won’t regret it.
Leah — Google review
The food was super delicious! We had the Musaka (omg!) and the falafel (best I’ve ever had). It’s not that cheap (compared to the super cheap tapas bars) but worth it. We spend 40€ for 2. When you sit upstairs with this beautiful view, a little longer waiting time for the waitress is not too bad. Nevertheless 5 stars and an absolute recommendation!
Leonie R — Google review
Great simply cooked food without heavy spices or sauces. Loved the lemonade ( green, a bit tart, not too sweet and made with mint ). The passion baraka drink tasted like a thick tomato/ beet smoothie, not to our liking. The bread was amazing and so was the tagine and taboulé couscous! Would go again!

Tapas bar
Bar Bahía de Palma, located on Calle Mariana 17, is a local favorite in Almeria. The bar is adorned with bullfighting memorabilia and offers a limited selection of homecooked tapas. It serves copious Spanish breakfasts and weekday set lunches from 9am to 5pm. The atmosphere is bustling and friendly, making it a great place to enjoy traditional tapas and drinks with friends.
We, a group of four geriatric Brits, wanderered in for tapas and drinks at lunchtime one day in November 2024. The waitress was very helpful in explaining (in simple Spanish) what tapas were available. Four drinks and seven tapas cost a very reasonable 21 euro. It appears that the price of a drink includes a tapas, too. All the other customers were Spanish, so good local atmosphere. Highly recommend.
David W — Google review
Came here because where we planned was under maintenance. Staff very unfriendly, except lovely girl at the bar, and speaks no English at all. Found the solution in writing on Google translate and showing them the screen. The food is average. Wine is good.

Just stopped for a drink whilst walking around Almeria. They didn't understand English tea. What came was a cup of hot milk and a strange teabag. Very cheap though, under €4 for the 2 of us. Staff friendly. Very windy the day we went, seemed to whistle through the square. They had to take down the umbrellas.
N P — Google review
It’s a great authentic Spanish tapas bar but unfortunately you seem to be only offered tapas if you are Spanish. I bought several drinks here and wasn’t offered a tapas, despite everyone around me being given tapas with their drinks. So, alas it seems, they have one rule for the locals and another for foreigners (guiris they call foreigners). So, if you can overlook being discriminated against on the basis of being a foreigner, then it’s a great place to soak up typical Andalusian fayre and service. Perdón por mi honesta valoración.

El Cable Inglés, also known as English Pier, is a historic railway pier in Almeria that was used to transport iron ore from the train station to cargo ships in the port. Built in 1904 by British engineers, this impressive iron-steel structure remained operational until 1973 and has since been declared a Cultural Heritage Site.
You can't come to Almeria and not visit this place. Because it's a gem, the location is excellent giving you the most amazing views of the port, the ferry boats, the sea, the beach and the city. However, if you get nervous when up high then avoid it. It's like you're literally standing on top of the palm trees. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and saw plenty of people coming and going, the top area is the most popular for taking pictures and videos.

This was where back in the day the carts with minerals etc. were pushed to be unloaded onto ships. The view from here is great, but on some days it gets really windy up here!
Jan R — Google review
A walk on the bridge was so special knowing it was historic carriage for the ships.

I've been at the marina Club de Mar Almería, just in the corner at the entrance of the marina for 4 days. It's a very nice view of El Cable Inglés.
Leonardo M — Google review
Don't know why we weren't allowed to eat and drink on the structure. No signs and no sense. This is a railroad construction without a roof! Wind and weather takes a higher toll on this than my bottle of water...

A nice sight to see. You have a beautiful view on Almeria and the sea.

(Translated by Google) A place where you go once and leave in love with the place, very welcoming, the service is excellent, the waiter's treatment is perfect and very very friendly. A place worth returning whenever you can. The tapas are not very big, rather small for my taste, but they have a lot of quality and are very good.

(Translated by Google) The place is centrally located, clean and well decorated, but the prices seem a bit expensive to me (for example, 3 euros for the must with its lid, 2 euros for the extra lid). The tapas are different and very elaborate but they seem small to me. I haven't tried it for drinks (Original) El local es céntrico, limpio y bien decorado, pero los precios me parecen algo caros (por ejemplo, 3 euros el mosto con su tapa, 2 euros la tapa extra). Pizza delivery
Domino's Pizza is a popular pizza chain that provides a diverse selection of pizzas and an assortment of other meals and accompaniments. This delivery or carryout establishment offers an extensive range of flavorsome pizzas at affordable prices. Despite encountering language barriers with the staff, effective communication was still achieved. The pizzas served are exceptionally delightful, providing customers with a satisfying culinary experience.
Great choice and excellent prices. Service very good. Will return.
Christopher L — Google review
Great pizza for the budget. Staff had problem speaking English but we managed to communicate.
Uroš ( — Google review
We previously have had good experiences in domino's in different areas.but on entering the tables were dirty ants crawling on the chairs. Toilets are filthy no locks on doors and kitchen didn't look much better.we left without eating.
Ben J — Google review
The service is great and the prices are good. The only bad thing is the pizza. The crust is thick like pastry and has no taste.
T H — Google review
The food and the service were really good. Jorge provided us with really good service. I would totally go back here again!!
Nick Z — Google review
Usual dominoes pizza that I like. Brand new premisis just refurbed yet there are ALWAYS flies in the place. I dont see how its possible. No wifi for customers so if you want to stop by and do some work, emails or let your friends know where you are you may as well be in the desert. Blue light to kill flies and customer wifi... straight up to 5 stars. Fix the basics, its 2017, flies on your food is bad. No wifi is annoying. Shame as the pizza is nice.

La Tagliatella is a wonderful Italian restaurant in the city of Almería. The food here is beyond what one would expect, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The outdoor seating ensures that guests can enjoy their meal while taking in the sights and sounds of Almería's vibrant atmosphere.
Italian restaurant. Amazing place. Before dinner starts, a small plate of olives is served. The portions are huge, food and beer are delicious. Service is fast , waiters are friendly, atmosphere is cozy. There is outside area to eat as well. Vegetarian option is available.

Everything about this place was truly wonderful! The service was outstanding from start to finish. A special shout-out to Sofia – she was exceptionally professional, warm, and genuinely helpful with recommending dishes. Her attentive and friendly approach made my dining experience even more enjoyable. The food was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The cozy atmosphere, paired with great background music, created the perfect setting for a relaxed evening. Definitely a spot I’d love to return to. Highly recommended!

Anniversary dinner, visiting Almeria from Scotland for Xmas. Wonderful pasta dishes, beautiful decoration, friendly, helpful staff. Not much more you can ask from a restaurant. Wholeheartedly recommend, will return many times in the future hopefully.
Kevin H — Google review
This restaurant is amazing! We both oredered the Lomo Cosenza for dinner and Citron sorbet for desert. The food were beyond tasty and it was very professionally plated. I actually tried to eat slower to make the meal last longer, and that says something. The waitresses were nice, sadly only one of them understood some English, and this is is the only critique i have. If they knew that one in the staff knows English, they should send the same waitress to serve, as this makes the communication between guest and restaurant way easier. Instead i was met by a confused face when i tried to order, i understand that not everyone knows English as i do not know Spanish, but it would've been 5/5 in everything if this was thought of in the future. I wish this restaurant the best, love from 2 Swedish guests! 🌹

The BEST pasta I have ever tasted!!! The taste was so rich and delicate you thought that you couldn't have enough of it and at the same time you don't want it to finish! The people working there are great, super friendly, polite and helpful!

Tapas bar
Bar La Lupe is a popular spot that seamlessly blends Mexican and Mediterranean flavors to create a mouthwatering menu. From delectable tacos and burritos to a diverse range of Spanish tapas, this place offers an array of culinary delights. Despite its popularity leading to crowded conditions, the tasty cooking and quick service make it worth the visit. The bar's selection of around 10 tapas provides a unique taste experience, with options like mango chicken and mushroom tapas alongside traditional offerings.
Really nice place! The owner is very friendly and kind, the food is amazing and really fast, the overall atmosphere is super good. Everything amazing! I will definitely come back
Michelle B — Google review
Was excited to eat here but I wouldn’t go again. Service was kinda rude. Super expensive, our meal was €45 for 2. Chilli con carne was delicious. Burritos were bad. Nachos were okay ( but €15 euro).
Sam H — Google review
The beer was good quality, the male staff were helpful and friendly. Not a huge selection of tapas. We decided to order 2 tacos from their menu usung the QR code on the bar tables. The menu said each taco would be 2.70 euros but when we got the bill they charged 4euros for each taco. I pointed it out to the female staff member and she said it was because the menu was translated in English. I showed her the price was still 2.70 euros but she wasnt taking any notice. With the language barrier I gave up and paid the bill. 8 euros for 2 small tacos is a lot to pay. This spoilt our evening as I dont like being over charged.
Carole — Google review
Nice place, very kind people. Probably the only complain was because t get a Quesadilla you have to order a drink, Wich is 3 euros, but you get a tapa with it. Prices has raised since last time. From 3.5 € for a Quesadilla to 4.50 without a drink.

The best chilli ever 😍

Solid tapas bar with good real cocktails (margaritas, mojitos, etc.) I love the mango chicken and the mushroom tapas! Quesadillas are good and it’s nice to sit out on the patio. Definitely recommend if you want to try something that isn’t traditional Spanish food!!
