Fortress
The Conjunto Monumental de la Alcazaba de Almería is an enduring fortress with protective stone walls surrounding an ancient compound, now housing historical exhibits. This 10th-century citadel is one of the most impressive in medieval Islamic al-Andalus and second in size only to Granada's Alhambra.
We spent a few enjoyable hours exploring this historic site, and it was definitely worth it! One of the best parts is being able to walk up the towers and take in stunning panoramic views over Almería. As EU citizens, we got in for free, which was a great bonus. Non-EU visitors pay a small entry fee of €1.50, which is still excellent value. Just a heads-up: check the opening times before you go, especially in summer. The Alcazaba typically closes in the afternoon and reopens around 7 pm, so timing your visit makes all the difference!
Stefano — Google review
This Alcazaba is really beautiful. I was shocked that it was free to enter. Lovely place to walk around even if the hill to get there is a bit steep! Definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area. Gives you a wonderful view of the town, port and sea.
Becky W — Google review
A must see place when in Almeria. It is a little bit like Alhambra in Granada, but smaller. However, we only visited part.of it, not where the terraced garden is; therefore, potentially it's much more than what we saw. It was free to enter where we went and visiting earlier in the day is worth it to beat the crowd. It's popular with tour groups. Great view of the city from the top. There are areas where excavation had taken place to study its history.
E D — Google review
The Alcazaba in Almeria is a must-see on the Andalusian coast. It's a beautiful fortress, stunningly built, perched on a rock with stunning views of the city and port. The cathedral in the cathedral square and the old town all capture the atmosphere of that era. Entry for free.
Falkor — Google review
Wow. Not the first castle with fortifications we saw in Europe… but it is a real nice visit and free. What makes it different is its size and the fact that it was maintained over the years. You should know that the visit starts with many steps to get to the top and more as you visit the fortifications but the views at the different layers are amazing. In addition to the well maintained castle and fortifications there are some ruin of old houses to see. If you can do a few hundred steps, it is a must-see if you are in Almeria.
Mario B — Google review
Beautiful place to visit while in Almería, surprisingly large fortress, easy walk but no for wheelchair users. Only accessible by stairs. Very nice area to see all Almería and the docks. Quite interesting story and a nice place to wonder around and take nice photos. Free entry!
Ana L — Google review
The Conjunto Monumental de la Alcazaba in Almería is absolutely worth visiting and a true highlight of the city. This monumental complex offers a fascinating journey through centuries of history, from Moorish fortifications to Christian influences. The grounds are extensive, with well-preserved walls, beautiful gardens, and plenty of architectural details to admire. One of the best parts is that entry is free, which makes it accessible to everyone and a perfect choice for a leisurely afternoon. A visit here is not just about history – it’s also about the experience of walking through wide open spaces, taking in breathtaking panoramic views of Almería, the coastline, and even the surrounding mountains. It’s a place where you can take your time, enjoy a peaceful walk, and let your imagination travel back to times when the Alcazaba was a powerful stronghold. However, there are a couple of practical things to be aware of. Parking near the Alcazaba can be challenging, and the area directly behind the castle doesn’t give the best impression. There’s some visible criminal activity, a fair amount of litter, and groups of young people hanging around, which can feel a bit uncomfortable at times. That said, these issues are outside the main complex and do not take away from the beauty and historical importance of the Alcazaba itself. Overall, if you’re visiting Almería, the Alcazaba is a must-see. It combines history, culture, stunning views, and free entry – a perfect combination for anyone interested in exploring the city’s heritage.
Dorian N — Google review
We had free entry on the day, not sure why. The guy asked us where we are from and let us in for free 😊 Really interesting to visit. We relaxed there walking around for about 1.5h.

Cathedral Encarnación de Almería is a Gothic and Renaissance Catholic cathedral that was constructed in the 16th century with the dual purpose of serving as a defensive fortress. It is the only structure of its kind in Andalusia, featuring a blend of Renaissance and Gothic styles. The cathedral's chunky turrets and buttresses were designed to repel attacks from Berber pirates and rebelling Moors during the 16th century.
Beautiful cathedral in the heart of Almería . The Cathedral is free during mass and usually on Sundays . Beautiful experience . You can feel the Holy Spirit all around .
Travellingaround — Google review
Absolutely beautiful cathedral made of huge and imposing stone. It’s €7 to enter the Cathedral each and €10 to also see the monastery. There is a large range of religious art and statues inside the building. High vaulted ceilings and shrines everywhere you look. I find it interesting to be in such an opulent place that is littered with donation boxes - never fails to amuse me. The atmosphere is also quite somber and quiet in my opinion - a certain eerie quality when a huge church is so silent and dark.
Phoebe D — Google review
Beautiful and unique cathedral right in the heart of Almería. Its fortress-like design makes it stand out, and the mix of Gothic and Renaissance architecture is really impressive. Peaceful inside, with some lovely details and a quiet courtyard. Definitely worth a visit if you’re exploring the city!
Stefano — Google review
One of Almerías places of interest/heritage sites. Amazing, very old and quiet Christian cathedral Very highly recommended 👍
Baljit D — Google review
Different from the other Catedrale we visited as this one is fortified, very interesting building. The interior is well maintained with a lot of nice art work. Clearly worth the visit if you are in Almeria and you like old architecture and churches. Easy to get walking or biking from the beach esplanade.
Mario B — Google review
I recently passed by the Cathedral Encarnación de Almería, and even though I didn't have time to go inside, I was truly impressed by its exterior. The cathedral looked stunning, especially with the beautiful decorations around it. The architecture is striking, and the intricate details are captivating. I’m looking forward to visiting again soon to explore the interior and capture some photos. Definitely a must-see landmark in Almería!

This cathedral is really beautiful. The difference between the exterior and interior is striking. Definitely recommend a quick visit if you are in the area. The staff are really friendly and helpful.

The Centro Andaluz de la Fotografía is a serene and stylish museum dedicated to fine art photography. The gallery features spacious exhibition rooms showcasing the work of renowned photographers, with rotating exhibits that offer a diverse range of artistic perspectives. Housed in the 'Casa Vasca' or 'Casa Montoya,' this regional architectural gem was generously donated to the City Council of Almeria and has been adapted into the first headquarters of the Almeria Museum of Art.
Great free place to visit, two floors of photos depending on what’s on. I saw Parr por Parr , photos by Martin Parr , drawn to the Yorkshire ones but great human interest photographs from USA and Spain as well. Funny, real and powerful at the same time . They are running a sister exhibition in Malaga!

My local museum or gallery, Im just over the road.. and this gallery has some very good interesting exhibitions by well known artists here and is well laid out. At night photos of the current exhibition are projected onto the walls outside which is a nice touch. Note.. as of Jan 2025.. currently broken. Get it mended please!

Lee Miller (f) photographic (B+W) exhibition May 2024. The upstairs space is a wonderful experience and most enjoyable to see the life's work of a brilliant surrealist photographer. A meeting with Picasso, one of the highlights and obviously influenced her work. FREE ENTRY

Wow - what an exhibition! We visited when a major show was on from the Chair of Magnum photographic group. What a delight to experience the slice of style - arranged in various themes. Warm welcome from the receptionist and sale of catalogue from the museum worker - would love to go back.

I wanted to visit this museum. The first time I went there it was closed, because it is always closed on mondays. So I went back another day. But when I want to enter, I was told it was closed whole week because of a exposition change. Why doesn't this museum inform his public about this? At the website and on the info near the door it is said that the museum is open. Why does this museum close totally when an exhibition is changed? I am very disappointed about this arrogant behavior. This is not the way to threat your visitors.

I caught a nice exhibition by some fabulous women photographers. I particularly liked the work of Maryam Firuzi (beautiful, thoughtful compositions that clearly took a lot of work) and Ana Elisa Sotelo's wonderful swimming shots (I shoot sports so really admire the skill and serendipity in the shots). Definitely pay the gallery a visit if you have any affinity for photography, art, or even if you just want to spend an hour looking at some nice photos. 🙂

Refugios de la Guerra Civil Española de Almería is a small museum dedicated to the Spanish Civil War, offering an immersive experience through its exhibits and audiovisual displays. It was the last stronghold of the Republican government during the war and served as a protective shelter for over 34,000 civilians.
One of the most amazing places I have ever visited! Fascinating, Historical, Important, Scary, mysterious, intriguing and impressive. It was easy to book on-line on the web a few days before our visit. I recommend this. The entry kiosk is very small and you have to look closely to see the entry door. Amazing architectural engineering. The member of staff who led our tour was passionate and informative. (The tour is given in Spanish, and the guide kindly interpreted a little into English for us, as Spanish is not our first language). It starts with a video, and there are English subtitles on the video. You must see this place, Hopefully it helps us all think carefully about preserving peace in our lives.
Damian R — Google review
A view of Almería from a very different perspective, so definitely worth a visit, especially as it's only a 3€ entry. Book tickets in advance, since the capacity per timeslot is limited. The roughly 1 hour tour is given in Spanish (which I could follow), and a short summary in English was given at the end. For other tourists it might be better if there was one designated English tour, since the summary might feel a bit short to some.
Ana Ć — Google review
We enjoyed our visit to the tunnels. A fascinating historical tour that details what various persons went through during the wars and how the persons hid underground. Make sure you book tickets in advance though we managed to get tickets on the day within a few minutes of the start of the tour. Add this to your list when visiting Almeria.
CHARLES A — Google review
The tunnels are really interesting but you need to visit with a tour and the tour availability and booking seems very confusing and complicated? Also no English tours? We were very lucky to be at the door when a guide was looking for more people for a tour. It was mostly in Spanish but Amelio was great to summarise information in English for us.
Vincent O — Google review
If your in Almería town definately check out this very interesting historic tour. We had a great guide, some good stories and interesting facts. I would definately this 1.5 hour tour that covers about 1km of tunes.
Andrew ( — Google review
Quite the unique experience. Yes, the tour is in Spanish (there are some English information boards and subtitles) but that’s fine... it’s still something you’ll not experience anywhere else! A trip 90m below the city... through remarkable tunnels that still have the ambience of safety and fear combined. And don’t expect to end up where you started! €3 currently, pre-booked tours. Worth every cent!!
Jay L — Google review
Great place to visit. Easy to park nearby in underground parking. Cheap entrance at €3 and there is a lift for people who can't do the stairs. About one hour tour in Spanish.
Franziska E — Google review
Very different to you normally see as a tourist, not much English spoken though, which is a shame..up to 30,000 people hid in this 2 kilometres of underground air raid shelters, it was attached to the market, and could store foodstuffs, there was also a small hospital and a school....there is a lift / elevator, both ways ( up and down) but you will need to ask! 2019 it cost 2 euros....

El Cable Inglés, also known as English Pier, is a historic railway pier in Almeria that was used to transport iron ore from the train station to cargo ships in the port. Built in 1904 by British engineers, this impressive iron-steel structure remained operational until 1973 and has since been declared a Cultural Heritage Site.
You can't come to Almeria and not visit this place. Because it's a gem, the location is excellent giving you the most amazing views of the port, the ferry boats, the sea, the beach and the city. However, if you get nervous when up high then avoid it. It's like you're literally standing on top of the palm trees. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and saw plenty of people coming and going, the top area is the most popular for taking pictures and videos.

This was where back in the day the carts with minerals etc. were pushed to be unloaded onto ships. The view from here is great, but on some days it gets really windy up here!

I've been at the marina Club de Mar Almería, just in the corner at the entrance of the marina for 4 days. It's a very nice view of El Cable Inglés.
Leonardo M — Google review
Don't know why we weren't allowed to eat and drink on the structure. No signs and no sense. This is a railroad construction without a roof! Wind and weather takes a higher toll on this than my bottle of water...

First poor review for me. We came here for three nights and these guys want you to book online a week ahead of time. It’s free… nonetheless it’s non-sence. Wasn’t a big deal since it just looks like a regular pier but just unexpected

The Museo de Almería, also known as the Museo Arqueológico, is a modern museum that houses a diverse collection of prehistoric and neolithic crafts, weaponry, and ceramics. It was established in 2006 to showcase the rich historical heritage of the Almeria region from prehistoric times through the Islamic period. The museum's centerpiece is the 13-meter Stratigraphic Column, displaying the city's stages of development.
Fantastic museum, especially if you have visited the Los Millares archaeology site as the findings from there are displayed here with interesting information and well designed displays. I love Spanish museums as they as much art gallery as museum. A real feast for the ears as well as the eyes. It's also free!! Thank you Almería. One tip to the museum - do advertise the los Millares site more and vice versa as I think both would then have many more visitors.

Ever felt the thrill of unearthing a civilization’s secrets? Museo de Almería pulls you into a journey through time, from prehistoric treasures to Islamic artifacts, all housed in a sleek, modern space. Each exhibit feels like a conversation with the past, vibrant and alive. Did you know the museum showcases Europe’s oldest known loom weights, dating back over 4,000 years to the Los Millares culture? This isn’t just a museum it’s a portal to Almería’s ancient soul. A must for history lovers!

Went here with my family (ages from 6 to 40 yo) and we all loved it! It was a lot of very accessible (and free!) knowledge about the history of the area. It has something I've never seen before, which is a visual and physical representation of the soil strates that show the history of the soil of the region, with all the societies that inhabited it. Generally, every single exposition was very well explained and accessible to learn and understand for everyone! Definitely recommend it.

A very interesting and modern Museum. It shows four eras, beginning from the bronze age to the muslim era in the late middle ages. The entry is free.

This museum is really interesting. Very open and clean. Indications are top. Toilets are clean. Very good that you can leave your luggage in a locker for 1 euro, you get it back after opening the locker. There are 3 departments of many cool artifacts and history. We prefer the oldest one. The 3rd floor is the Arabic culture. There are also a lot of little videos how they maked grane and other things. It was free when we were there.

Very good museum! The amount of exhibits is not great but it spans from Paleolithic era to middle ages. Very interesting and unique exhibits!

Wow! The most imaginatively presented archeological museum I've ever visited (and there're been many!) The archeological layers are represented like a core-sample up the central stair-well with chronological finds shown as you go up the flights. Very moving reconstruction of the interior of a burial dolmen. Signage in Spanish and English. Ask at the reception desk if you want to buy the excellent guide book (available in 3 languages) - they're not on display! Very helpful staff.

Some videos and inscriptions are in english. The people working there do not speak english but were very nice. The recptionist played the videos in english for us. There is an elevator in the back if you need it to reach the upper floor.

A small but curious place to visit and explore some of the objects, pictures and memorabilia from the production of Indiana Jones and John Lennon's visit to Almería.

Different to what I expected, as quite new and almost a replica of what once was, however very informative and a wonderful reception. Worth a vist and a wander, the hologram introduction was wonderful

Overrated in my opinion. There are some interesting posters and stories about who stayed in the house. I've now been in a bathroom used by John Lennon. But there just isn't that much here and certainly not enough to justify venturing out from the center. At least admission was free. It would not have been worth the 3 Euros some have paid.

Nice place to discover a part of artistic life of John Lennon, and on the lower floor, nice pictures and an interesting documentary about Almeria and its movies sets history. Worth a visit, but take a bus from downtown to get there, and take the opening times from Google maps!

Playa de San Miguel is a spacious and excellent sandy beach located in the heart of Almeria. It features a pleasant beachfront promenade adorned with numerous bars, restaurants, and shops, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The beach offers an ideal setting to witness breathtaking sunsets and observe ferries commuting between Morocco and Spain. While not particularly shallow, the water is perfect for swimming, complemented by sizable waves on windy days due to its openness.
Strong waves, gotta be careful, nice water, nice smell of it. the little rocks kinda massage your feet 👍🏻

A good beach and spacious promenade, with plenty of bars and restaurants to stop and eat at. A great place to stay when you are in America with scenic views of the beach, promenade, town and great sunsets
Mathew T — Google review
Highly overrated, I would not recommend nor visit it again. It's a public free beach, but it had the worst 'sand' I've seen. It was made of small rocks mixed with dirt, so every time someone took a step a cloud of dust raised. Since there were a lot of beach ball fields, all occupied, the players made a huge cloud of dust along the whole coastline. Although the beach was fairly wide, people were jammed in the last 5 meters near the shore (to have a better quality sand and avoid the dust) and 5 meters in the water (as the sea got abruptly steep, so you would not be able to touch the ground after a few meters in), which meant the water wasnt the cleanest near the shore. The positive was that there were a lot of showers and public toilets along the beach.

A broad and really good sand beach in the centre of Almeria. There is a nice beach promenade and a lot of bars, restaurants and shops. It is lovely to sit on the beach, watching the sunset and ferries to and from Morocco. The beach here is not shallow, but perfect for a good swim. It is quite open so there are rather big waves on windy days.

The beach is OK. The water is clean, but the sand is as dirty as it could be: full of cigarette butts, soda cans, rests of food, and everything else. It has, however, a very nice view: you can see the mountains of Almería while you swim.

Tapas bar

European restaurant
Casa Puga is a historic tapas bar in Almeria, dating back to 1870. The ambiance is lively and inviting, with traditional decor including hanging jamones and shelves filled with bottles and cheeses. While the service can be casual, the atmosphere is buzzing. The bar offers free tapas with a glass of wine or beer, and also serves substantial half raciones of grilled kidneys, fried fish, octopus, and more.
Casa Puga Almeria, is one of the best spots in town! The food is amazing, simple as that. It's some of the most authentic tapas I've had in my life. The atmosphere is super traditional too, the kind of place that makes you feel like you're stepping back in time. The staff are friendly, they made me feel so welcome as soon as I walked in the door.

Great traditional tasca bar in Almería. If you’re not from here is a must, great tapas and drinks, very cheap and so beautiful to see too.
Sofia M — Google review
A recommended tapas bar to visit when in Almeria. Mostly locals and the food are fantastic! Drinks comes with something to nibble and you can order additional. In our case we got free garlic mushrooms. It opens at 8:30 pm and customersare already waiting outside before the doors are open. Better come early if you want a table, a bit of a scrumble to get it. The bar itself gets crowded with walk in customers throughout the evening

Christine L — Google review
Very popular with tourists and locals alike, so always expect a big crowd. There was even a queue 30 mins before the place opened. I went twice on different days, and both times they didn’t have pulpo and ternera… Why put them on the menu if you don’t serve them? 💔
T C — Google review
I don’t understand how this place can have 5 stars reviews. I just went there and I have never seen a place as dirty as this one. We had 4 plates on the table and all plates and cutleries had stains of food on them. The worst part was the fact that I had 3 glasses that I couldn’t drink from. Very dirty, very cloudy and full of stains. I understand if it was one but all 3 were disgusting. I took picture only to one of them. The food was same. Very plain and no effort at all. The gambas pil pil was made in sunflower oil instead of olive oil, no taste at all. Also when cooking, without gloves, they were scratching their heads and then touching the food again. Horrible! I was so excited to be in Almeria and I swear this was the worst food experience so far.
Ioana T — Google review
I accidentally passed by this beautiful restaurant today, and it was a wonderful and interesting experience. I saw that tourists who don't speak Spanish gave it a low rating in the comments, and I think they may not understand how to order food correctly. I don't understand Spanish either, but through Google and other guests' explanations, the food on the tapas page here is that every alcoholic drink comes with a free tapa, and if you order extra, it's 2 euros each. We ordered four alcohol drinks, 6 tapas, and a fried shrimp, which added up to about 26 euros.
J K — Google review
On a hot, sunny Friday, they couldn't open on time, didn't have the decency to care enough for the people waiting outside in the sun and be timely. I sat there for 40 minutes (which was already past their supposed opening time) and gave up in the end. The minimum they could have done would be to offer the 10-12 people waiting in the heat a drink or something until they could get the place ready. Abysmal customer service.

Playa del Zapillo, located in the city of Almeria, is a beach worth exploring. The promenade is lined with restaurants offering stunning views of the Mediterranean. However, some visitors have expressed concerns about littering on the beach, urging for more responsible behavior from both locals and tourists.
Beautiful beach. Watch out as the sand can get super hot and burn your feet. In the morning you get the older people relaxing and chilling out. After 4pm it seems to be a lot of younger people who can get a little noisy, but generally good natured

I liked this beach, the water was lovely and great for an evening swim. They have lots of showers and toilets every 100 or so. Unfortunately all the toilets were closed and the showers had no water which was disappointing. I know it’s out of season but the beach had loads of people on it so there was a need for the facilities.
Dave L — Google review
I actually quite liked this beach - clean and close to the city. There are lots of eateries around if you don't want to bring your own food for your beach day. There is absolutely no shade so you need to BYO shade! The water is so refreshingly cool especially after being in temperatures of 38-40 degrees (I was here at the end of July). Pebbles rather than sand. Just a short bus ride from my hotel in the city so great location.
Rachel S — Google review
Very nice beach but people just leave their trash behind on the beach. No responsibility, no respect. Can't blame this just on the guiris or teenagers. I see plenty of locals, including families, who walk away when finished, leaving their plastic trash on the beach to blow away into the sea. Very, very sad. No wonder the children and teenagers don't clean up after themselves when they see their parents doing the same.

Museo de la Guitarra Almeria is a dedicated museum showcasing the art, history, and craftsmanship of guitars, with a special focus on the influential Spanish luthier Antonio de Torres. Known as the father of modern acoustic guitars, Torres' work is celebrated through galleries featuring prints of guitar-themed paintings, films demonstrating guitar-making processes, and an interactive zone allowing visitors to listen to music and play both electric and acoustic instruments.
An interesting concept. A specialist museum. Nicely presented. Some fine copies of older guitars. Presently being upgraded. A hats off to the lady in reception who greeted us.

Beautiful building and good place to escape the heat. There are not many guitars to look at. Lots of reading material on the walls. The kids zone was closed at the time we visited and it was free entry - possibly due to the kids zone closure. I personally get more satisfaction out of visiting a UK music shop. Beautiful building that needs more internal investment.

go to a music museum where the goal is to immerse yourself in the sound of the guitar but while remaining immersed in silence because there is no working audio, that is to say no radio, no voices, impossible to listen to the different pieces of guitarists or the sounds of the different types of guitar. closed immersive space, closed second floor, closed audition room, in fact it is a museum that should be closed but no it remains open to waste the time of customers who will pay the full price just to be able to admire the oldest guitar and it’s over!

There are a lot of cool historic electric guitars with great stories. One can see the ways how the wooden guitars are made, also the historic story about the development of the guitar. Even though it is a small museum I found it really interestingg because of a lot of interactive content and reproductions. If one loves wood and guitars, a must see in Almería .

Popped a head around door to be part of a catholic service. When this is open, it is for people to go in to worship. It is not an opening to walk around as a tourist. The Virgen del Mar church is an attractive place of worship situated in heart of the old town in Almería. It is located in the Plaza Virgen del Mar. This is my favorite restaurant in Almeria. If you’re a foreigner prepare yourself for slow service because the serving culture is different in Spain. The servers here are sooo nice and’s helpful all you have to do is ask. As for the food: OUTSTANDING. The falafel is the best I’ve ever had in my entire life. Not to mention the atmosphere is beautiful too. I go here every chance I get.

The location is beautiful, right next to the alcazaba! Extra points for the cute cat as well haha 5/5 recommend!!
Aisha — Google review
While the view is certainly outstanding, the atmosphere in the first floor was definitely not the best, seeing as it's right next to the kitchen and you can hear the clicking and clacking and yelling and all of that. I ordered the homemade fries, which I was assured would be filling and that it'd be a large dish (it wasn't), that cost an absurd 8€ that I regret spending, and the fries took more than 40 minutes to arrive to the table. You'd think that the fries taking more than 40 minutes to cook would be golden brown and perfectly fried, well, you thought wrong, because they arrived looking very pale and a bit undercooked, with the ketchup being a splotch on the side, not even offered for me to use it however I'd like to. The ladies seemed nice and the desserts looked good, but I wouldn't recommend sitting in the first floor nor ordering the +40 minute fries that should cost 4-5€ and little more.

The food was super delicious! We had the Musaka (omg!) and the falafel (best I’ve ever had). It’s not that cheap (compared to the super cheap tapas bars) but worth it. We spend 40€ for 2. When you sit upstairs with this beautiful view, a little longer waiting time for the waitress is not too bad. Nevertheless 5 stars and an absolute recommendation!

Great simply cooked food without heavy spices or sauces. Loved the lemonade ( green, a bit tart, not too sweet and made with mint ). Offers a fantastic view over Almería. The area has been cleaned up a lot compared to a few years ago, making it a much more enjoyable spot to visit. There are several ways to reach the top — if you have a car, it’s likely the easiest option, as there are a few parking spots nearby. Otherwise, you can walk up, but be prepared for some long staircases. In the summer heat, the climb can be quite intense, so bring water and plan accordingly.

Has an amazing view of the city. There is some reconstruction around the area, which is good because at least they are noticing the poor state of the mountain. But this made it difficult to find the way up, as there were no signs to follow. There was a lot of garbage on the way up but also around the site.

I have to leave just two stars for this place as it’s pretty dreadful. The statue and view is lovely if you can cope with the heavily littered and dangerously dirty street to get there. Then the site is obviously used as a drinking den for the local down-and-outs. Oh dear. Go to the Alcazaba instead and look over from a distance, at least then you won’t have to put up with the smell either.

With its central location, it provides easy access to attractions such as Almeria Air Raid Shelters and Arabic Aljibes.
I'm very pleased with our choice of this hotel. From the first phone call, where Monika at the front desk was very helpful and explained exactly how to get to the hotel. After arriving at the hotel, she warmly welcomed us and explained our questions in English. She was accompanied by her colleague Daniel, who was also friendly and helpful. We also really liked the hotel itself. The rooms are small but clean, cleaned daily, the beds are comfortable, and the breakfast is affordable and delicious with a wide selection. The hotel is conveniently located close to the main attractions. The hotel also has parking, which is close to the hotel, and although it took us a while to find it, we were happy to find it. I recommend booking a parking space in advance, as spaces are limited. If we visit Almería again, we will definitely stay at this hotel.

Great service & attention to detail by all front line staff. (Incl. Reception, House Keeping, Bar/Restaurant). Nothing is ever a problem. * Wifi comes and goes...so if high speed or work needed to be performed relying on fast speed not so convenient. Other than that - Excellent service, super friendly staff and highly recommended. Great centrally located hotel.

Nice hotel, but definitely not a 4 star hotel. No idea how they determined that it was a 4 star. The room lacks the amenities that you'd expect in a 4 star, like the coffee, tea, kettle, conditioner. Otherwise the hotel is nice, parking is a few min away & at a cost. And the breakfast was good! Meats were very fresh. We accidentally booked for 1 person instead of 2 and they charged us for the extra person at breakfast, so just make sure you book correctly.

Location is really good, service is ok. The food served at breakfast is terrible, don't bother wasting your money, great cafes around the corner. The worst thing about our stay by a long way was the NOISE. Massive amounts of banging and clattering, earth shattering pounding of a hammer at 9 o'clock in the morning, people running up and down corridors with suitcases... The list goes on. If I had the choice I would stay somewhere else next time, I feel 2 stars is being kind to this "4 star hotel".

My wife and I stayed mid July 25 for two nights whilst enroute to Gibraltar. Really nice hotel central to the old town and a 25 minute walk to the beach. Staff are friendly and very helpful. I used the multi storey secured carpark for 13 euros per day which is a 5 minutes walk to the hotel. Our room was the superior double with breakfast and free access to the solarium. Facilities in the room included, TV , free safe, fridge, hairdryer and shower over bath. For this grade of room in a four star hotel I would like to see tea & coffee facilities, none the less it's comfortable. The solarium has a jacuzzi, sauna and a couple of sunbeds. On our visit the sauna was not operational. Breakfast is basic however adequate. The cost was 240 euros for two nights, breakfast and carpark which is great value!

Pleasant hotel for a short stay. Rooms were small but very functional. Staff was friendly and the breakfast buffet, though not fancy, was perfectly adequate. Prices are fair.
Julie T — Google review
Nice rooms with comfortable beds, a bath and a fridge ( not a mini bar). But Tv was only in Spanish , not what we expected from a satellite TV. Good location for Alcazabar, bars and restaurants. Access to Solarium was restricted (one hour free with our upgraded room) but you have to pay for additional time. There are sun beds but space is cramped and not very attractive. There is a gym but again you have to go to reception and get access. In the end I didn’t bother, it was too much faff. We could hear TV (or was it other customers conversations ) from the room next door, which was annoying . Check out at 12 mid day with a late night flight meant a lot of hanging about and they wouldn’t let us sit on the roof on the sunbeds which we had planned to do when we booked. Staff Could have been more helpful.

SPA AIRE Ancient Baths Almería is a luxurious spa located in the Old Quarter, where an ancient Arabic baths has been restored to offer visitors a unique experience. The spa offers the traditional Arabic bathing ritual, involving moderate, warm and cold immersions to cleanse both the mind and body. One of its highlights is the wine bath, where guests can soak in different temperature baths before enjoying a private wine bath accompanied by a glass of wine and a head and neck massage.
Love, Love, Love This fabulous hotel. Stayed over a very long weekend. The location, the interior, the room, breakfast, facilities and the spa fantastic, well thought out. Special mention of how gorgeous this place smells, but all praises to the staff especially Mina (front desk) so lovely, warm and welcoming, her local knowledge (food, site seeing & shopping) benefited us greatly. Had an amazing experience. We will be back !

Booked this for a 3 night stay with my bf in February and we fell in love with it! The spa is fantastic, we have been to many and this was probably our favourite so far! Also the heated rooftop pool with views over the old city... wow. An absolute gem of a find for a winter getaway!

Every time i go to Spain, i make a point of visiting aire spas. I’ve been to the one in Barcelona and Seville, and this summer i went to almeria. The wine bath is an absolute must do. You get to soak in the different temperature baths, then get escorted to your private wine bath. During your wine bath, you are given a glass of wine, and they give you a head and neck massage. Afterwards, you get a full body massage. Finally, you go to the rooftop pool where you get another glass of wine and some cheese. You have a great view from this roof which is a plus. Lucia was my masseuse; she was so gentle and had an incredible touch. Thank you!

The Obelisco de la Rambla, also known as the Obelisco del 18 Julio, stands at the center of a fountain along the promenade of the Avenue. This obelisk is identical to another one located in Plaza de las Velas and offers a spacious area for walking and sitting. It's a pleasant and beautiful spot for leisurely strolls and sightseeing.

Nestled in the heart of history, the Refugio de la Guerra Civil is a recently uncovered Civil War shelter that has piqued the interest of local historians and enthusiasts alike. Just two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to explore this hidden gem alongside Salvador Gomez Torres from the BARRIO DEL SANTO Association. The discovery was made by a vigilant neighbor, Jose Antonio Sicilia Fernandez, who promptly alerted authorities about this significant find near the upcoming Fuentesol urbanization.
(Translated by Google) REPORT ON UNKNOWN PARTICULAR REFUGE FROM THE CIVIL WAR. Two weeks ago I was with Salvador Gómez Torres from the BARRIO DEL SANTO Association documenting the recently found Civil War shelter near the future Fuentesol urbanization by a neighbor of the neighborhood, Jose Antonio Sicilia Fernández, who notified the Police Unit of the Junta de Andalucía, which has already carried out the visit with technicians from the Delegation, whose conclusions have not been published. In the clearing carried out by retros, more cavities are appearing related to the abandoned quarries reused one day as a cave house, according to my guess. Due to its appearance, I launch the hypothesis waiting for a better opinion: it must have been a private shelter (apparently from the Cortijo de Antonio del Aguila) that gave protection to the nearby farmhouses since it does not appear in the Network of public shelters opened by Langle after the bombing of Almería in May 37 by the Kriegsmarine as revenge for the attack by Republican katiuskas on the German battleship Deutschland anchored in the antequerano of Ibiza. Excavated in the rock, peak blows can be seen. Due to its mining construction technique, it reminds us of the nearby underground galleries of the San Indalecio Canal that carried water to the nearby ponds designed by the López Rull brothers. About 15 meters deep and curved to avoid projectile shock waves and dirt floor to filter urine in case of a prolonged attack, it can be walked on foot with artificial lighting. Although today it is used as a waste dump and with garbage and a mattress from a former squatter, it looks good, with a brick vault and walls plastered and whitewashed. The most striking and identifying thing is a graffiti inscribed on cement mortar that dates the shelter: 1937. It also has a stone bench to alleviate the wait and a ventilation vent to make it breathable. It was probably reused after the War as a cave house or storage room as can be deduced from a nearby cistern dug into the rock and paved, a stone cupboard that has lost its shelves, vestiges of a porch, porcelain for a power line, spikes, spikes in the stone and superimposed layers of lime of different colors, such as burgundy. (Original) REPORTAJE SOBRE REFUGIO PARTICULAR DESCONOCIDO DE LA GUERRA CIVIL.

My friends took me here on my last day in Almeria for a beach day and it was probably the best beach day that I've had abroad. Swimming in the refreshing Mediterranean was just dreamy. Clear waters, pebbly beach and not crowded at all. BYO shade as there are no trees. No public toilets or changing rooms from what I saw. We brought a picnic lunch with lots of water and fruit juice. The park is huge and has many beaches and even a wee township to explore or have food and drinks (will do this next time). Parking is free (on the side of the main road). I think we left at around 8pm. A totally relaxing day at the beach and not far from Almeria at all. I'd totally go back for sure!

A very nice point with cool rocky formations in the sea! Moreover there's a wonderful beach underneath the lighthouse were the sea is very calm and full of fish (you can do some snorkeling in front of the beach and see about 20-30 different fish species, some of them getting as big as 40cm!). If you need the snorkeling gear you can rent it by the lighthouse for 10€ a day.

Playa de los Genoveses is a pristine and unspoilt beach located in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park in Almeria, southern Spain. This virgin beach features fine sand, small dunes, and a rugged hiking trail. The area is known for its sun-baked landscape and has been featured in many Western films.
Beautiful beach! Only down side is that it’s not that accessible with public transport. You could take the bus to San José and walk to the beach (35 min) 🏖️

It is indeed a beautiful beach, big waves and awesome, but there's plenty of people with dogs. And these dogs likely to leave surprises - just look where you step.

Nice beach, very very long ao there's always enough place near the water. There were a lot of waves so we couldn't really understand how nice the sea is. There was a lot of current though, the waves were arriving from multiple directions and there was a yellow flag so...we couldn't really enjoy the water. Moreover the parking place cost 6€, without even having seen the sea. We had to park by the restaurant, which means you have to walk about 10-15 minutes. In my opinion a cute beach, but nothing special, we saw far better beaches around there.
Timur C — Google review
Beautiful, undeveloped beach. Because of bay and direction, water tends to be very still here (even if wavey nearby). Water quite shallow for a fair way out. In October, very quiet. Good short hikes with great views to the SW end. Further South-west end (beyond rock) for nude bathing.
Oliver K — Google review
To enter the reserve it was €6. The road is gravel and dry, but is sprayed by a tractor that turns it into a slightly muddy track. Our hire car was covered in thick mud. That should not spoil it. Just a heads up. This beach is beautiful but can get windy, unfortunately from the direction of the land. Our beach towels were covered with sand in no time. Drinks and food were covered. I'm sure it isn't always like this. But we had to abandon our stay.

We headed to the beach from San José, just over a mile from the town, lovely beach with hills on both sides. We walked further west and climbed a small hill overlooking the beach. Heat views of beach and the mountains to the north. Very green and lush. Amazing amount of wild flower species, all beautiful. Walked further west and past some other lively beaches. Has our lunch on one, some of the rock formations were spectacular. Great area will return and recommend.
Bryce M — Google review
A nice and very long beach in walking distance from San José (there are paths from the old windmill, it takes about 20 mins) but reachable by car as well, or public transport in the summer season. During the high season there is a fee per car entering the road. The entrance to the sea is very shallow for about 15 to 20m from the shore. Very nice, fine and soft sand. One of very few beaches that I've seen between Cabo de Gata and San José that have vegetation around - eucalyptus grove, agaves and other plants.

Cala Rajá is a scenic beach that is nestled in the embrace of towering cliffs. The azure waters surrounding it are perfect for snorkeling, but getting there can be a challenge due to the rocky path leading up to it. It's recommended that visitors wear appropriate footwear as the first few meters of shoreline are covered with rocks before giving way to sand. Although quite popular during summer, beachgoers may have to contend with an abundance of flies.
Gorgeous relaxing beach. The journey in can be challenging and depending which way you come is not marked. Once you arrive the beach is lovely with big crashing waves and lots of space to relax. Was not too busy when I was there just a couple other groups so was nice and relaxed. No amenities close by so bring everything in with you. I sat for a couple hours then continued exploring the rugged coastline. Great area to spend a day exploring!

Would have been a strong 5 stars if it wasn't for the quantity of flies and the quite hard path to get there. Bring hiking shoes. But the beach must say is very beautiful.

The beach is very nice, water great. The access is a bit difficult, but possible to get even with kids when you find the correct way. Recommended are the shoes for the rocks as at the beginning of the sea there are few meters of rocks only after which sand starts.

The Heritage Interpretation Center of Almeria is a modern and interactive museum located in the historic center of Constitution Square. It offers visitors a comprehensive understanding of the city's history through exhibits, a large-scale relief model, and a high-definition film shot with drones. The museum is structured over three floors, focusing on Muslim Almeria, Christian and Contemporary Almeria, and present-day Almeria.
What an experience! The Heritage Interpretation Center is a must-see for anyone visiting Almeria. Make sure your visit to this wonderful city begins here; you’ll see everything else in a different way! Also, the adjoining coffee house has a great selection of typical sweets… And the rooftop has the best views of Almeria!
Bruno S — Google review
Wonderful interpretation centre with very helpful staff. Exhibits are staged from the Muslim, Christian and contemporary periods of Almerian history. There is fantastic views from the rooftop terrace. Entry is free and it's located in the main square and well marked. Just walk alongside the squares buildings and you'll find it. Well worth taking the trouble to find. Thanks everyone at the Centre for your help. 👍

It was renovated in 1970 after the damage suffered during the Civil War and in 2017 it was rehabilitated, waiting to be declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (file started in 1985) to be able to give it public use and be open for tourist visits. It stopped functioning as a station in 2000 when the Intermodal was inaugurated, which is on the left, contrasting with its white color and modernist design. (Translated by Google) José Ángel Valente's house contains some objects and furniture that belonged to the poet, although many are no longer there. Despite this, a visit to the house itself is highly recommended, a beautiful example of a house from the old Almería with a central staircase prior to the impersonal blocks of the 60s: it is a shame that the city lost a historic center from the 18th century that would make it similar to Cádiz or La Laguna. The visit is free, it is very close to the cathedral and there is some audiovisual about the poet. Please, I ask the City Council to improve these aspects of the visit. Teatro Cervantes Almeria is a fantastic 100-year-old theater that offers a variety of shows suitable for all ages. The professional staff ensures a great experience inside, while outside, there's a great bar to enjoy. It comes highly recommended as a wonderful entertainment venue, with events organized by Kuver promotions receiving high praise.
Teatro Cervantes - always a pleasure, we enjoyed different types of theater, concerts and even one time the Valentines Dinner, which we really enjoyed and looking forward to another offer like that!!! But - always make sure to bring a warm jacket - it can be a bit cold during the show. The prices for the drinks are adjusted to the environment 😉

Beautiful old building. Reasonable permanent exhibition and I saw 2 fantastic temporary exhibitions too. Easy to enjoy an hour+ here. Free on Sundays and worth the 5 euros entrance fee on other days. Closed on Mondays.

Very nicely renovated building with some great spaces. The collection punches above its location with some very interesting work on display here , eventually more galleries will be added. Security is perhaps rather TOO tight here though.. it feels like entering Fort Knox going in! But for 5 euros it is a visit worth waiting for i think.

Amazing collection for a local museum. Really impressed by the variety of paintings. truly recommended
Natalia S — Google review
I loved the collection and it's a modern building, also the staff is very friendly. Especially, one short lady, one of the room attendants. But I felt weird being there the only visitor. All the museum attendants were following me around and watching me. I understand the reason of course, but when I am the only one there, it is very intrusive.
Eva K — Google review
A great gallery with lots of really interesting artworks on display in a very nice space. Good value for money and highly recommend to all art enthusiasts. Free entry for teachers with a Id card and children which was great for our family. Agree with other comments about excessive security however, we could not bring water in the gallery for my daughters or a sketchbook which my 7 year old wanted to make studies of the artworks inside. We enjoyed the visit.
Katie A — Google review
A bit of a high security entrance system. No bags or water allowed to be taken in the galleries. Leave in manned locker area. A tightly controlled visitor experience, each room air conditioned and personnel monitored. Old Spanish artists work on display going back about 100 years or so to the modern period inside a revamped building. Some good pieces on show, and some dubious works of art also displayed. Overall a good hour of browsing the history of some of Spain's artists.

(Translated by Google) I was very pleasantly surprised by the museum. Almería undoubtedly deserves this treatment. It's a city of artists and thinkers. Let us never forget that. The museum has a very good selection of works in the permanent exhibitions. High-quality and exceptional works. It's worth a visit. The temporary exhibitions were by incredible female artists. I hope to go back to repeat the experience. The only thing that caught my attention was the lack of security to ensure the works are kept in good condition and that no one touches them or gets too close. Some spaces also had poor lighting.
