Sibiu in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Sibiu, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Sibiu is a beautifully preserved medieval city in Transylvania, known for its pastel-colored houses, grand squares, and distinctive “eyelid” attic windows overlooking the streets. Once a major Saxon trading center, its historic core is filled with fortified churches, towers, and bridges, including the pedestrian-friendly Large Square and the atmospheric Council Tower. The city hosts well-known cultural events such as theater and jazz festivals, and its museums—like the Brukenthal National Museum—showcase art and regional history. Nearby, the open-air ASTRA Museum highlights traditional Romanian village life amid a forest and lakes.
With favorites like Grădina restaurant & terasă, Museum of Hunting "August von Spiess", and The Carpenters' Tower, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Atrium and La Turn so you can get the best taste of Sibiu while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

The Bridge of Lies, a small iron pedestrian bridge constructed in 1859, is steeped in legend and history. It is located in Sibiu, Romania, amidst a backdrop of medieval buildings that exude historic charm and romantic allure. The city itself boasts significant museums and historical sites such as the Brukenthal Museum, Astra Museum of Folkloric Traditional Civilization, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Evangelic Church, Council Tour of Sibiu, and old fortress tours.
Beautiful place. Lot of stories. Close to piata mare so you will find a lot of things to do there and good food.

Cute spot, easy to find. Great for meeting friends or for viewing the small square or the lower part of Sibiu.
Remus R — Google review
One of the most beautiful and iconic landmarks in Sibiu! The Bridge of Lies is full of charm and history. It’s a perfect spot for photos, and I love how it connects the old town’s storybook streets. The view from the bridge is amazing, and it’s surrounded by great cafes and shops. If you visit Sibiu, you must see the Bridge of Lies!
Lance H — Google review
The Bridge of Lies in Sibiu may be small, but it’s packed with stories. Locals say it creaks when someone lies while standing on it—spooky and fun to test out. Built in 1859 as Romania’s first cast-iron bridge, it connects Little Square to Huet Square and offers a great view of the old town. It’s one of the most photographed spots in the city, with a great view of the lower town below. A quick stop with character while wandering Sibiu’s historic center.
Noel M — Google review
The Bridge of Lies (Podul Minciunilor) in Sibiu is a must-see! This historic cast-iron bridge, dating back to 1859, is not only beautiful with its Neo-Gothic details and city coat of arms, but it’s also surrounded by fascinating legends. Locals say the bridge creaks if someone tells a lie while standing on it—such a fun story to share with visitors! The location is perfect, connecting Piața Mică (Small Square) to Huet Square, and offering wonderful views of the old town. The surrounding area is full of charming architecture, cozy cafés, and cobblestone streets—great for photos and walking tours. Whether you’re here for history, legends, or just to take in Sibiu’s medieval charm, the Bridge of Lies is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Transylvania! 📍 Easy to find in Sibiu’s historic center 📷 Great photo spot, especially in the evening

The Council Tower, dating back to the 13th century, stands as a symbol of Sibiu between Grand and Lesser Squares. Originally a gateway in the city's fortifications, it now offers panoramic views of the town for a small fee. The tower is located near Piata Mare and Piata Mica, where historic guild buildings once housed craftsmen. Visitors can explore this area and then climb the tower's seven stories to enjoy breathtaking city vistas.
Was here in November, the minute they opened. The entrance is not from the square side by from the side that faces bridge of lies, it’s a small wooden door. You pay, take steep spiral staircase up the tower, passing a couple of floors of spaces with occasional exhibits. When you reach the top - the view of Sibiu is beautiful! Very cheap (I believe it was about $2), but cash only!
Vlada — Google review
Nice view, interesting to see a medieval tower from inside.
Art M — Google review
The Council Tower is a must-visit in Sibiu! Located right in the heart of the Old Town, it's easy to find and the perfect starting point for exploring. The tower is perfectly situated between the two main squares, Piața Mare (Great Square) and Piața Mică (Small Square). Its ground-floor passage connects the two, making it easy to access.
Gilad Y — Google review
Very beautiful birds’ eyes view of Sibiu. Best time to go is before the sunset on a sunny day. My pictures are not the best because of the cloudy conditions.
Jenny Z — Google review
A lovely tower that perfectly fits the vibe of the square. The nearby streets add even more charm – those kinds of cozy alleys where you might stumble upon something interesting or at least a great café. The tower dates back to the 13th century and originally served as a defensive lookout and fire watch. Today, it's a nice spot for a short climb with beautiful views over the old town. Or you can simply enjoy it from below, as it calmly completes the picturesque feel of the whole area. :) (instagram --> michaelnae)

Unexpectedly beautiful. I didn't expect to like it so much, the view is great and I loved how good the inside looked too.
Ana C — Google review
For a small fee you can view a part of the beautiful city-with its gorgeous architecture. It is a little narrow climbing up the tower, so keep that in mind. I was there at the end of November and there was already a Christmas Market, but the tower isn't so crowded, the waiting time isn't more than 10 minutes (if any)

Romanian restaurant
Nestled within the charming confines of an ancient wine cellar, Crama Sibiul Vechi offers a delightful culinary journey through traditional Romanian cuisine. This hidden gem in Sibiu invites you to indulge in hearty dishes that are sure to tempt even the least hungry among us. The menu boasts local favorites such as rich tripe soup, savory bean soup, and succulent chicken in mustard sauce. Don't miss out on their smoked pork and polenta casserole or the iconic cabbage rolls that showcase authentic flavors.
I was surprised the restaurant is in the cellar, but the atmosphere is really nice. You will see a ‘hundred pages’-menu, with varieties of food. We ordered a soup, grilled pork, spicy beef, side dishes like potatoes and mushrooms. They are in big portions and are very tasty. Service here is also great.

Dinner here this evening was absolutely fantastic, you could choose your main then your sides and sauces and essentially build your plate. It's easy to find, we were welcomed immediately by a friendly and funny host - lovely and accommodating staff. Desserts just as good and the whole atmosphere was very cosy. Service could not have been quicker. Everything arrived promptly. Would 100 return and recommend!! Thank you for a lovely evening.

I loved eating there, the waiters are super friendly and the traditional food is delicious. The food is super abundant, my partner and I ordered a cheese board to share as an appetizer and then our respective main courses and we couldn't finish them, We had to change it to takeout. But 100% recommended, delicious food and a very comfortable place!
Waleska L — Google review
Great atmosphere, delicious food and fast service. We recommend the cabbage rolls, the peasant potatoes, the tomato and onion salad and the pancakes, apple and berries pudding with ice cream. We loved the sour cherry brandy and blueberry brandy with pudding. Generous helpings. Thank you to the chef and the hard working team.
Caroline — Google review
Staff members will joke around to lighten up the mood and they have the ability to do so. Food is really tasty and the portions are just enough to leave some space for dessert. Prices are absolutely reasonable. I would definitely recommend a visit if you are looking for a traditional dinner
Robert B — Google review
Absolutely outstanding food — from the soup to the main course and dessert, every bite was rich in flavor and steeped in tradition. The staff, dressed in traditional costumes, and the medieval “taverna” atmosphere make you feel as if you’ve stepped straight back to the early 1900s. No phone signal, no background music — just exceptional food and genuine human connection. I’d come back every time I get the chance; there are still so many dishes I can’t wait to try.
Veronica A — Google review
Excellent food and the quaint atmosphere of a 'cellar restaurant'. Impressively large menu. Two wait staff were very good, but lots of diner turnover meant they were very busy clearing and setting tables. Bill had to wait for a while.

The "Holy Trinity" Orthodox Cathedral, located in Sibiu, Romania, is a stunning example of Byzantine architecture. Built in just two years from 1902 to 1904, the cathedral features neo-Byzantine alternating bands of yellow and red brick and a massive copper-covered dome. Inside, visitors can admire classic Orthodox paintings by the renowned Transylvanian Symbolist Octavian Smigelschi. The cathedral also houses a gift shop for visitors to explore.
Huge cathedral. Amazing architecture inside. There was a mass going on while we where there on a Sunday morning. There were lots of people. A very calming and peaceful vibe.
Thanath G — Google review
This is a whole different level. If you’re in Sibiu, this is a must. No “maybe”, no “if we have time later” – you just have to stop here. The cathedral is absolutely majestic, especially when you stand in front of those huge, ornate doors and look up – you instantly feel tiny. Inside, you’ll be embraced by the classic Orthodox vibe: gold everywhere, colorful frescoes, and the unmistakable scent of incense. The cathedral was built at the beginning of the 20th century, inspired by the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul – so it’s like a quick cultural trip across Europe. Even if the streets outside are buzzing, it’s wonderfully peaceful inside. Honestly, even I stopped talking for a minute – and that says a lot. 😄 (instagram --> michaelnae)

The Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral in Sibiu is breathtaking inside, with soaring domes and vibrant iconography that fill the space with color and light. The atmosphere is calm and reverent, making it a great stop to pause during a walk through the old town. Photography is allowed but best done respectfully.

This is really a stunning church to visit it is so amazing to look at all the frescoes on the walls and ceiling. It really is worth a visit even if you are not really religious. The art itself is really worth visiting for and if you want you can also go shop in an small shop near the church for some merch. There is no entry price so it is free to visit.

Lumos - Coffee and brunch is a delightful spot located on Miropoliei Str. no. 1 in Sibiu, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere from the moment you step inside. The friendly baristas are always ready to provide an exceptional experience, whether you're there for coffee or brunch. Situated close to the Large Square and Huet Square, Lumos is a popular gathering place for the community.
Will forever be my comfort coffee shop! The food is and always has been amazing and the staff is very professional. Been there over 10 times and I can’t complain about anything. Lumos deserves the hype, you won’t regret going!

The whole experience was nice . Nice staff and the food is really tasty. If you want to eat good breakfast/ brunch is one of the best places in Sibiu . Although if you are hungry the size portion of the meal is a bit small . And the coffee was nice but the milk kinda hot. I recommend the place for a try
Thomas V — Google review
I love the restaurant's vibe as a whole! The food was always good honestly, nothing to complain. The crispy chicken burger is honestly my favorite by far. The staff is super sweet, the nusic is great! In the summer though, whenever there waa a heatwave, the air conditioning didn't work and it was unbearable inside and outside.

Such a cozy and lovely place! ☕🥞 I really loved this café — the atmosphere inside is warm and inviting. I had a double espresso and a chai latte, both were excellent — rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. For food, I tried the pancakes with peanut butter, maple syrup, and wild berries — such a great combination! The peanut butter wasn’t too sweet, the pancakes were super fluffy, and the portion size was perfect. Definitely a place you should try — you’ll love it! ❤️

If you’re in Sibiu and looking for a place that does brunch right, Lumos Coffee & Brunch is one of the top choices. I ordered eggs Benedict, and although they initially told me they didn't have hollandaise sauce at the moment, they came back a few minutes later and asked me if I wanted to change my order, as they had received the hollandaise sauce in the meantime. I appreciated this gesture.
Andreea S — Google review
A lovely place with a nice atmosphere and a beautiful location. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was good, but I wasn’t a big fan of the coffee – not really to my taste. Prices are a bit on the high side, but overall it’s a nice spot for brunch.

Lumos Coffee & Brunch is a gem in Sibiu! Delicious food, amazing coffee, and super friendly staff. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming — perfect for brunch or a coffee break. Definitely my favorite spot in town!
Charbel A — Google review
Stopped by for breakfast and was impressed by the variety on their brunch menu, with prices that are quite reasonable. The food is tasty, though it does get a bit heavy and even slightly overwhelming after a while, and the poached eggs were a bit overcooked. Service was slow, and we weren’t informed about the wait. The coffee was fine, and overall, despite these small downsides, this is still a brunch spot worth trying compared to other brunch spots.

If you're seeking an enchanting evening filled with delightful music, delectable cuisine, and a charming ambiance, Atrium Classic Cafe is the place to be. Nestled within a stunning heritage building in Sibiu's Small Square (Piata Mica) and just steps away from the iconic Bridge of Lies (Podul Minciunilor), this stylish lounge offers a unique blend of Italian-inspired dishes alongside live piano performances that create an unforgettable atmosphere.
Atrium might just be the coziest restaurant in Sibiu. During winter time, it's highly decorated with Christmas stuff and you'll love it. A perfect spot for your Instagram snaps. The inside is modern and the ambient is so warm. The staff is very polite and attentive. The food is even greater and while being located right in the heart of the historic center, the prices are surprisingly decent in that regard. Highly recommend this place.

A nice restaurant located in a quiet area of Sibiu. The place and drinks were lovely, especially the Socata. However, the food was a bit disappointing. We had a pizza and the risotto. The pizza was quite ok, but the risotto was quite dry and oily, not creamy as a risotto should be. I would recommend this place just for a nice drink.

Located in the heart of Piata Mare, La Turn is a restaurant that beautifully combines modern elements with the charm of old town Sibiu. The use of enriched wood and contemporary lighting creates a unique ambiance, while capturing snapshots of the city's history. This popular spot offers a diverse menu at reasonable prices, making it a favorite among young locals. Whether you're looking for a quick snack or a full meal, La Turn has something for everyone.
We had a pastrami sandwich with sour cabbage and homemade chips and a Punch-it burger, also with a side of chips. It was amazing, the portion size is rather big, the meat delightful, the combination of meat with sour cabbage, the burger with harissa sauce and different types of cheese, the fresh chips, everything was just perfect. The order came quite quickly, the ambiance was great, a live DJ, good drinks, nice and attentive servers. I couldn't finish the pastrami sandwich so I asked for the left half to take out; they packed it tightly in a to go container and a bag. 10/10.

A very nice local in the centre of the city. The atmosphere was romantic and relaxing with chill music and dim pleasant lights, perfect for a date night. The food tasted great and the deserts were particularly tasty. Our server Alex was very friendly and helpful, making the experience a very pleasant one. If you find yourself near the centre of Sibiu it is definitely a restaurant worth visiting.

The food was delicious but the prices were a bit high, but fair for center of Sibiu. The staff was friendly and welcoming, a bit aggressive in sales-pitch trying to sell you things that you don't really need. The food took very long time to come but it came all for the entire group, which is fine. The place is amazing and look very nice.

The place was looking fine, and the food also looked ok. But tasted really bad, the chicken seemed almost uncooked, had the texture like a sponge. I really didn't feel like eating it anymore, the potatoes were good tho, just too much salt, my lips were literally hurting. The service is fine but the waiters are kinda sad looking to be honest. Overall not satisfied and also still hungry.

Plai Restaurant in Sibiu is a small but exceptional dining spot, accommodating only 10 guests at a time. The culinary experience here goes beyond just choosing from the menu; it's a sensory journey integrated with the surroundings, season, and the origin of ingredients. The food is described as exciting and surprising, offering unique taste combinations that work harmoniously. Complementing the food are fine wines and craft beer from a local brewery.
Amazing fine dining experience. It is my second time visiting Plai and i can say that it great both times. The dishes are truly unique and the presentation is top class. This is Romanian cuisine at it's best.
Ilau A — Google review
One of the best fine dining experiences we've had so far. Very fine, well thought-out dishes, you can tell that a lot of thought has gone into putting the dishes together. For us (in summer), the menu focused a lot on lightness. The choice of ingredients is based on local producers. The atmosphere is very relaxed and there is a lot of explanation and interaction with the guests. It was perfect for us! 😊
Kathrin S — Google review
An intimate fine dining experience. Every dish is explained in detail about history and the use of ingredients. We had an incredible meal and one of the best dinner experiences I have ever had. Compared to fine dining options in the US, this is very affordable for a 15 course menu - about $90 per person (for food, not including alcohol). And the wine pairing recommendations were wonderful. It was truly an unforgettable experience, cannot recommend highly enough.
Emily G — Google review
In summary: Plai is a must-visit — traditional food elevated with simplicity, purity, and unforgettable flavor. Dining at Plai was a true game changer on my culinary journey. Plai is traditional food—elevated. Each dish felt simple yet deeply thoughtful, impressive in its humility and refinement. *When I say “simple,” I mean classic, unpretentious, pure, direct—an essence. My biggest takeaway was the reminder of how extraordinary fresh, local ingredients can be when honored in their most natural form. Though I usually chase bold, complex flavors and textures, I was amazed at how much joy I found in a single bite that celebrated the ingredient’s true character. To relish something not because it was transformed, but because it was exquisite from the start, is a rare and blissful experience. Eating food that shines in its own beauty, grown with care and served with respect, was profoundly moving. Plai embodies simplicity as an art form—an homage to tradition and a reminder never to take our roots for granted. We grow beautifully because our roots are strong. Thank you, Plai, for reawakening my appreciation for where we’ve come from and how that shapes who we can be today :) If you’re seeking food that is soulful, rooted in tradition, and elevated by purity and respect, Plai is an unforgettable experience!
Jessie W — Google review

An experience you cannot miss if you’re in Sibiu, a 10 seater restaurant run by Petra & Paul, the menu is seasonal, the focus is to reduce food waste and to be as sustainable as possible. For the food, everything was amazing, loved every dish and want to be back next time. The concept itself is amazing too, you get to talk to the other participants and end up becoming friends by the time the dinner is over. Keep up the good work guys! Thank you✨🫶🏼

Restaurant
Hochmeister delikat'essen is a restaurant located in a charming square in Sibiu, Piata Schiller, near the Big Square. The building has an interesting history as it was once the home of Martin Hochmeister, a local who used his lottery winnings to open the city's first library with a book lending service. The restaurant offers a fresh and authentic menu inspired by old Transylvanian recipes and influences from 11 different cultures.
Had a quick dinner here and it was good. Very attentive service and the restaurant has a very pleasant and clean aesthetic. The two lemonades and two mains came up to 160RON (£27/€32). Menu sounded interesting and I felt bad for not having room for dessert. Maybe next time!

We had an excellent dining experience. The staff was kind enough to find us a table, even on a busy Saturday evening. Despite the restaurant being quite full, the service was unexpectedly fast and efficient. The food was very flavorful—I especially enjoyed the roasted eggplant with goat cheese and nuts, while the main dishes (beef schnitzel and trout) were also delicious. We dined inside and loved the décor and atmosphere, but the terrace also looked inviting, set right by the little square outside. They also offered a nice selection of beer and wine to complement the meal.

Probably the best restaurant I’ve ever visited when it comes to value for money. Exceptional quality at a great price. Highly recommended. Come visit - thank me later! The service was great, too. I had the pork and the duck. Exceptional taste, especially the pork.

Average experience, we went for lunch. This is our third visit over the past year. The waiter was nice enough, although a bit intrusive with the questions and a bit too forced in his service. We asked for two lemonades without ice, waiter said that it is difficult to serve without ice... 🤔, I had never experienced this before. Food is average - trout salad is meh, thin strips of smoked trout, with salad and some thinly sliced bell pepper with a vinegar and olive oil sauce. The veal snitzeal was frozen and then fried. Nothing special. For dessert, the papanaşi (small portion) were definitely not traditional in any way, they were so sweet, so much added sugar that my child could not finish them, ate less than half of the portion. As for the ambiance, nothing special, kinda old furniture and design. The AC was switched off during a hot summer day.

Overated reviews, expensive food with below average taste and rude service. Not worth it - don't waste your time here. 1st Edit: Dear Owner, before you accuse someone of a malicious review, I would make sure this is the case and not just a feeling you might have. Sadly your behavior and your team is very unprofessional and disrespectful! Attached are several photos from our visit to your tourist trap of a restaurant.

A delightful European/local restaurant in Sibiu. The waiter was honest and provided excellent wine recommendations that perfectly complemented the flavours of the dishes. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous without being excessive.

Day 2

West side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the west side side of town. Start the day off with Dumbrava Sibiului Natural Park, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Shopping City Sibiu. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Park
Dumbrava Sibiului Natural Park, situated just 4 kilometers from the city in Dumbrava Forest, is a serene and green space that offers a change of scenery. This protected site features three lakes, diverse wildlife, and lush vegetation. The park also houses the largest open-air museum in Romania, the Astra Museum of Folkloric Traditional Civilization. Visitors can explore specific households from various rural areas as they were built by former craftsmen, providing insight into Romanian village life.
We visited the park with it's many benches to rest, rustic houses to visit from different parts of Romania, we saw people working and making pots and sculpting in wood, we saw the meadows and the autumn crocuses. They have small gardens where they grow tomatoes, chilly peppers, green beans and corn. It is a beautiful place to walk in with the family and the dogs. It has stages in the middle of nature where we can sit, eat and listen to good music!
Donna E — Google review
A different kind of parc, actually it's an almost 100ha of forest, water, old houses with all sorts of old devices used to process grains, grapes, wood, wool and so on. The village in its most honestly conserved reality, a museum in open air telling stories about long-forgoten activities that people used to do for leaving. Worth a day of exploring!

Great location for a long walk and a great experience looking at all the buildings that someone used as a living or work space. You can tell how much things have changed, and the progress that we have accomplish with the years. Still I would love to live in some of those, it looks like some are fairytale houses. Movie studio perhaps?

Vast span of land, lots of neat vintage peasant houses, brought here from all over the country. You can find here the house represented on the 10 RON bill. A wooden church (1759), the lake and a lot of wind and watermills can also be found here.

Great park to have a walk and explore rural Romania. A lot of shade due to mature trees make it perfect even for hot summer days

Lovely place , plan at least 4 hrs to visit at ease. But some places are closed and you cannot go inside. Its very interesting to see Romania throughout the years.

Awesome place to recharge and enjoy nature. Lots of trails, biking paths and plenty opportunities to walk around and observe plants and birds. The village museum and nearby zoo are amazingly interesting, can't wait to go back and see the rest of it, as it is huge. Visited in spring, early May, it was wonderful.

Loved the history and viewing the old dwellings! Much bigger than we anticipated, beautiful walk on the walkways through all the trees. The bowling alley was mind blowing to see! Coffee afterwards was great. Shop has some really nice items as well

The ASTRA National Museum Complex is a cultural gem in Sibiu, Romania, featuring four museums that delve into ethnology and history. One of its highlights is the ASTRA Open Air Museum, nestled in a picturesque forest beside a tranquil lake. Covering 250 acres, it showcases over 300 buildings representing diverse architectural styles from villages across Romania.
It is a wonderful place to be. Walking round a lake through the forest while are able to visit old water, wind mills, hunting lodges, winery, buildings and tools, but also housing as they used to be. Can get into the windmill and see how it worked. Can visit the houses and see how people used to live. You can enter with your pet, as it is a pet friendly museum. You can spend easily few hours there visiting the museum as it is placed on a vast land, count at least 4-5 hours to visit the whole site. I recommend it for a piece of history but also for a relaxing walk in different zones, forest, along the lake, plane fields, along a spring. Prices are reasonable.

Amazing and super interesting place, totally worth visiting. It's a huge park, perfectly maintained. Parking is free but in busy days it would be difficult to find a spot. In the park, you will find plenty of shadow in hot summer days. There are a lot of rest areas, and wonderful kids playing area.

Amazing— The word “ASTRA” is significant in Romania because it refers to a historic cultural association and some major heritage institutions central to Romanian national identity and Transylvanian history. Cultural Association and National Awakening ASTRA (Asociația Transilvană pentru Literatura Română și Cultura Poporului Român) was founded in 1861 in Sibiu, Transylvania, as a society dedicated to promoting Romanian literature, education, and culture during the Austro-Hungarian rule. ASTRA played a vital role in the Romanian national awakening by supporting schools, libraries, publications, and scholarly gatherings focused on Romanian heritage. Its efforts were instrumental in boosting Romanian consciousness, particularly among Transylvanian Romanians who faced assimilation pressures.

I absolutely loved this place and enjoyed being there. I was on an organized tour, so with the free time given, I was only able to explore half of it so I explored the older section. There is a magnificent delta and you see different architecture representing different places in Romania. I was there about an hour. Definitely not enough time. There was enough english to understand what you were looking at. There was lots of modern wooden art everywhere and a huge gift shop. I wish I had the time to just sit and enjoy the fall colors and wild life playing on the lake.

This is a Must to do place if you are travelling in Sibiu region. The museum is so rich in its history and depicts so nicely the traditional life of Romanian people in the past. During our visit there was even a national Olympiad of Romanian culture happening in this place, which allowed us to meet people from all around the region of Romania. One thing which united all of them were there beautiful dresses, beautiful smiles and warm hearts.

Great collection of traditional buildings from all around Romania! Our advice would be to have life actors who would be representatives of certain time period, talk about crafts and introduce visitors to past lifestyle. That way it would be more interactive, interesting and educational.

Outdoor Activities
Nestled within the picturesque Astra National Museum Complex, Sibiu Zoological Garden offers a charming retreat for families and animal enthusiasts alike. This compact zoo features a delightful array of wildlife, from majestic bears to graceful zebras, all set against the backdrop of serene lakes formed by the Trinkbach brook. While it may not rival larger zoos in scale, Sibiu Zoo captivates visitors with its well-cared-for animals and clean environment.
Great zoo, lots of animals I did not expect to see. I believe the albino siberian tiger is the most exciting one. We managed to see the big lady lounge around and it was great! The enclosures were a bit unkept and it seemed like some of the animals didn't have enough room, but maybe that was just my own perception. We spent about 1-2 hours walking through everything, enjoying our stay and taking pictures. There's also plenty of playgrounds for families with kids to rest and a lot of resting points to chill. There's also a pretty lake, paying about 30 Ron to use one of the thread boats to go onto the lake. Otherwise you can also just enjoy the tranquil atmosphere by the side. We had a nice time there, definitely recommend since it was pretty cheap too!
Veno — Google review
Really cool zoo with many big cats, wolves, and bears inside of a big green open space park. It is a beautiful walk all throughout the zoo and nice to even just sit down and relax around the lake. The cats and wolves were very active during the day I went so it was a great experience. The bears were very lazy though haha. If you like experiencing different zoos, I would highly recommend giving this one a go! Tell the white tiger hi for meee 🤗
Ben S — Google review
Is a really nice zoo to visit with multiple entrances even one is in the open air museum. The price for the tickets is really cheap and you get alot for that price. The enclosures of the animals are also quite big which is nice. There is also a possibility to paddle on the water in an boat. And there is an food and merch store in the zoo itself.
Demonic M — Google review
It's the oldest zoo in Romania I think. They have quite a few uncommon animals. Like albino Siberian tigers, and some unseen by me hawks. And I'm a biologist. It's also a really cool place to just move about in, and escape the city. The animals have some of their cages dirty and they should probably provide some extra shade for a few of the species in the summer. As they were literally lying down from the heat. So were we mostly. But we visited in the evening.
Adrian Z — Google review
some of the animals are kept in bad condition, like small enclosures but contrary to most of the reviews, they are well fed, i attached a photo. I own 3 parrots so i can tell when something's wrong with them and i could clearly tell that one cockatiel (nimfă) was sick. The bear was clearly not ok tho, it was probably new to the zoo and not used to it yet-he was moving in circles for the entire 2 hours we were there. Other than that, they seem to be quite happy. Tickets cost 5 lei per kid and 10 per adult.
Iri D — Google review
The zoo is decent, not that big and the animals seems to be decently cared for. The birds area is very small and not that interesting compared to the Pitesti Zoo. Entry is 10ron for adults, 5 for kids and the hidrobike is 50ron for 30 minutes or 30ron for the row boat.
Andrei D — Google review
Beautiful zoo with nice pets. Not too big or small and realy cheap. 10 Lei Adult 5 Lei Child. (Till 14-16) also you can book a pedel or rowing boat for the sea. Small restaurant ( kantina ) also in the zoo with a rooftop terrace. It's a good choice for 2-3 ours visiting. We definitely recommend.

Nature & Parks
Sub Arini Park is a serene green space in Sibiu, surrounded by mountains and featuring forested areas, a children's playground, musical pavilion, and fountain. It offers a peaceful escape from the city center with its natural landscapes and inviting atmosphere. The park is also an ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding area, with bicycle lanes leading to Dumbrava Sibiului park and trails through the forest towards Poplaca village.
A huge natural park. That is what I like the most about it. You do not see paved alleyways or benches once you get out of the central areas. Only forest and small footpaths. And, because it is so natural, there are a lot of small birds and animals. If you are lucky enough, you can even meet Treebeard deep in the forest
Madalina C — Google review
Sub Arini Park is a beautifully maintained green space and one of Sibiu’s most charming public areas. The wide, shaded walkways and open lawns make it ideal for walking, jogging, or simply spending time outdoors. During my visit, the park was undergoing routine maintenance, with workers trimming grass using weed whackers throughout much of the area. While understandable, the noise—combined with the natural volume of the birdlife—made it less peaceful than expected. Additionally, parking nearby can be challenging, especially during busy hours. Overall, it’s a lovely and well-cared-for park, but visitors seeking a quiet atmosphere may want to check local activity before arriving.

This is one of the most beautiful parks I have ever seen. And the best part is that i’ve got the chance to see it in autumn. I wished I had more time to spend in Sibiu so that I can spend a full day and have a picnic in this park. I hope to visit it soon in the future

Our favorite place in the town. It is beautiful in every season. There are several possibilities to have fun. You can walk, jog, bring your kids to the playgrounds. There is also a football and tennis ground. Special road for Bicycle. A large meadow where you can have a picnic if you want. You can buy ice-cream, coffee, boiled corn on cobs, popcorn, cotton candy etc.

A great park to walk/jog/run/bycicle with beautiful species of trees and secular oaks. You'll be enchanted by the birds thrills because many species are having their homes inside. Shopping City Sibiu is a well-maintained mall located in the heart of Sibiu, offering a wide variety of stores selling clothing, electronics, groceries, and more. Visitors can also explore local fresh produce markets where farmers sell fruits, vegetables, cheeses, dairy products, and meats. The mall features an inviting atmosphere with friendly staff and a selection of local small businesses that add a unique touch to the shopping experience. Additionally, it offers an attractive food court with diverse dining options.
Shopping City Sibiu is a well-designed and modern shopping center with a great variety of stores, from fashion and electronics to groceries and cafés. As an American visiting Romania, the experience was very positive overall. The mall was clean, organized, and most shops had staff who spoke English, which made things much easier. A few tips for other international visitors: the coin-operated shopping carts near the hypermarket can be a bit confusing if you're not familiar—bring a 0.50 or 1 leu coin to unlock one. Also, if you plan to shop for groceries or household items, be sure to bring your own bags or be ready to purchase some at checkout. Lastly, if you're new to Romanian currency, I’d recommend downloading a currency converter app before going—it really helps you get a feel for prices. All in all, a clean, comfortable, and welcoming place to shop, eat, and spend a few hours. Highly recommended.

the best place to go just don't go to promenada this place has a taco bell reduced prices and almost everything you need also there is a slight hint of the fruit ger aero style that I love and it brings me back such good memories of when I were a child and came here I truly recommend this place not those new quickly built malls that don't even have ceilings and you can see the pipes on the walls and stuff... this mall is different its well built and has a lot of nostalgia

I recently visited the Sibiu Shopping City and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed with the experience. The mall was beautifully decorated for Easter, with colorful eggs and flowers adorning the common areas. What really stood out to me was the cleanliness of the mall. Even during evening, the floors were spotless and the bathrooms were well-maintained. The atmosphere was inviting and relaxing, while more seating areas for shoppers to take a break and recharge is needed. The variety of stores available at the Sibiu Shopping City was also impressive. There were plenty of well-known brands and unique boutiques to browse, and the food court offered a wide range of cuisines but not very diverse to satisfy any craving. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at the Sibiu Shopping City and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, inviting, and diverse shopping destination. The mall's beautiful Easter decorations and friendly staff made for a memorable visit that I will not soon forget.
Asghar F — Google review
Great amount of choices and good stores, however the mall staff can be quite distasteful and racist, I have had the unfortunate experience of being told things that were not at all a rule solely because I am not Romanian. Guards especially, will enjoy a power trip when it comes to rules. Dogs are allowed inside the mall but not inside the stores themselves.
Wriothesley — Google review
Very big shopping mall with everything you can think of, I did miss the proper restaurants here. Mostly fastfood
Maikel B — Google review
I was expecting more of Sibiu, to be honest. The mall is very crowded and not well organised. Outside there are advertised only a few shops so I had no idea if it is worth entering or not. They are refurbishing so maybe in a few years it will be nice to see. Update in 2019- very clean toilets and space. Lovely place to browse in shops. A variety of shops and places to eat. Well done for the work you did!
TravelingSoul — Google review
When you use the Tesla Supercharger during the night, there is no access to the toilets inside the mall, since this is their policy according to security personnel. There are no other toilets in the area, which means the rest of parking is the toilet?

We had a wonderful time at Jacob Grillhouse. The staff is very obliging and helpful (especially Marius was really knowledegable and kind, he told us all about the diferent types of meat they serve and age) and food is really good. They specialize in steaks(Black Angus, Wagyu and USDA Prime), but all other food was tasty too. I had the Spicy Wok and it was a bit on the salty side, but really good, rice had a wonderful buttery taste. Part of our group had shared platters and the meat had rave reviews. Soups and dessert was really good too. I especially loved the view, the restaurant is surrounded by forest and they had the window walls opened when we were there, it felt like dining in the forest. I totally recommend.

Tonight we were having a business dinner at Jacob Grill House. Adina was "our" waitress. The whole experience was amazing. They have exceptional meat there!. The food was served as expected and with a smile that was not faked and Adina was always taking care of our table with no delay. The food was awesome. One thing:if you want rare cooking for your beef, insist on the "rare" word. They have a tendency to overcook. But other than that, I would definitely come back here.

The establishment is aesthetically pleasing, however, the quality of the food does not meet the expectations created by its appearance. Yummy Yang City is the sole Chinese eatery in Sibiu, offering a delectable array of Asian cuisine. Although currently only providing delivery services due to their recent relocation from Sibiu Shopping City, this should not deter you from experiencing their culinary delights. One highly recommended dish is the Singapore Mi Fen, consisting of fried rice noodles combined with egg, curry, chilly, ham, vegetables and shrimp. The restaurant boasts a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere with courteous staff members.
The waitress in blue shirt with glasses and still studying in school is super friendly, I wanted to give some tip but seems this country doesn’t support sending money directly to the person so I didn’t. If you see this message you can pm me Btw, the food is also very good

Yummy Yang offers a special dining experience with a welcoming ambiance and a variety of Asian dishes. The food is flavorful and well-prepared. For people who interested in amount - it is good choice due to unlimited quantity to eat. However, all meals have a street food level. The buffet pricing offers not great value for money. For 70 lei per person (not including drinks such as coffee, water etc) you have variety places to take your meal. The attentive personnel provides a good service. Coffee quality and brewing - not approved! Recommended for Asian cuisine lovers.

Delicious food and beautiful place. The best all you can eat experience I’ve had so far. For 70 Ron (aprox 15 EUR) you could eat unlimited food for an unlimited time. For this price, the buffet had some unexpectedly tasty dishes including sushi, noodles, soups and desserts. They even have french fries.😜 On weekends, the price for the buffet rises up to 80 Ron but it’s still a very decent price for this offer.

Our long-term favourite restaurant in Sibiu. 🤍 Excellent cuisine skills, friendly and outgoing staff who remember your usual orders and preferences, and make you feel at home, even while ordering over the phone. 😀 Our son loves the chicken mi-fen and he always receives extra chicken for his serving. 😊 We have tried other Yummy Yang restaurants across the country, they all share the same menu items, but none have the delicious variants cooked here. The packing is always perfect when ordering to go/takeaway and there are no spills or item errors. Kudos for a great job! 👏🏻🏆

Situated just ten minutes from the city center, it boasts a spacious garden with ample shade for summer relaxation. Inside, the ambiance is welcoming and the staff are friendly.
We arrived at this restaurant at night and enjoyed it so much that we came back the next day for lunch. We come from a family of chefs in Barcelona and, after a week in Romania trying both traditional and modern cuisine, here we found the perfect balance: a cozy place, background music that sets the mood without being intrusive, delicious food and, above all, outstanding service. You truly made us feel at home – thank you so much! Without a doubt, if we come back to Romania, this will be a must-visit stop.

Nice location with great atmosphere. The beer and the service were perfect. This time the calamari was overcooked.

Pretty good food. Great beer. The special menu (paella) was delicious. The pasta quite good. The schnitzel decent but the fries bad. Very bad. The cheapest option from the freezer and yellowish. Undercooked. Surprising since the food seems carefully prepared.

Spacious and lovely place with a warm and relaxed atmosphere. The garden and terrace make it a very pleasant spot to spend time. The food and drinks were really good – fresh and flavorful – and I especially enjoyed the starter platter, which was a great way to try different tastes. I also tried the traditional Romanian dessert, papanasi, which was absolutely delicious and a perfect way to finish the meal.

Not enough personnel to handle the amount of customers. The burger was stale, not cooked properly, and for the most part inedible. Fries came from a bag. You get the point. Whereas I don’t fault the waitresses at all, the entire establishment leaves much to be desired. You can’t serve food as such and call yourself a “restaurant” in the center of Sibiu.

Great location, with a spacious garden. It was the perfect spot to relax and eat something after a day of biking. The staff and the owner were very welcoming and friendly. We got there and chose our table with no wait, however after a little while we could see people filling the place and soon there were no empty tables (recommend maybe booking a table if you’re planning to go in the evening) . Good also for large groups of people

They were really friendly, they let me taste the gorgonzola sauce from their in house burger before ordering. The burger came with some thicker bacon slices that were NOT chewy but I would still recommend some thinner bacon strips cooked slower on low heat for the crispiness but its a personal prefrence. They have great beer aswell.

Restaurant
Kombinat Gastro-Brewery is a relaxed and friendly place in Sibiu, where good beer goes hand in hand with tasty food. Their menu is simple but carefully crafted using locally sourced ingredients from small producers around the Sibiu county, giving their dishes a colorful and flavorful twist. The restaurant offers a balanced neo-Romanian cuisine served alongside a cold glass of Staropramen.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at this beautifully decorated restaurant located just a short walk from the city center. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a great meal. What really stood out to me was the seasonal menu — it’s clear that the chefs put a lot of thought into using fresh, in-season ingredients, which adds a unique touch to every visit. The food was absolutely excellent, full of flavor and beautifully presented. The service was top-notch as well — friendly, professional, and attentive without being intrusive. Overall, it’s an ideal place to enjoy delicious food in a relaxed and stylish setting. Highly recommended!

Kombinat offers a lovely rooftop terrace. The food is very high quality, portions are moderate but enough. It's a good idea to have a reservation, also during the week. It is not the stereotypical idea of Romanian food including cabbage and peppers. Rather it is trendy food ideas which taste super delicious 😋.

The restaurant provides delicious food prepared from local products. The portions are large and the plating is interesting. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and provides recommendations if you’re not sure what to order. The beer & wine selection is good, and we loved the no soft drinks policy.

The food was amazing. The roasted corn was prima! No complaints. Only suggestion would be to offer Coke products rather than only homemade drinks. Not everyone likes or can drink citrus drinks, etc. Is this restaurant Romanian or Czech? Delicious either way and staff were great. Thank you for a great evening. 🥰

Had dinner here last night and was pleasantly surprised. The menu has a few options and the prices are a bit high, but everything we ordered was packed with flavor. The blueberry cake deserves a special mention, easily one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. The place was busy, yet the service was friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. I also tried one of their cocktails; it was good, though not my favorite. Overall, this spot stands out compared to many other local restaurants, so it’s a well-deserved 5 stars from me.

Delicious balmoş and mousse de urdǎ. Unfiltered Staropramen (cask) a good choice. -- This is not a brewpub, although one corner of the dining-room is taken up by a mock kettle. The beer on tap is not brewed here. Nothing interestingly quirky. -- Entrance ; dining room ; balmoş ; mousse as plated ; mousse with meringue cap displaced

I arrived for dinner after seeing the play "Faust" (you MUST see it). Well, the food was a total surprise, colorful and delicious, reinvented food that challenge the ordinary without betraying the taste. Well done! Generic atmosphere, or maybe I am too subjective. But hey, visit the place for the food and service! Make a reservation, it's necessary if you want to eat here. Enjoy!

Going to Romania means to definitely go to farmers markets. Get fresh produce and see the variety of Romanian agriculture and vegetables and fruits. It's a good place to spend a day, to find out more about Romanian tradition, customs and history. It is enjoyable on foot, with lots of walking or you can bring a bycicle. There is a lake as well. You can buy souvenirs, there are restaurants as well. You can walk in the forest or on the walking paths. Often there are different events organized here. Be careful, there are ticks.

The citadels are very interesting, in times of war they were protected by members of different guilds. For 2 lei you can visit the Carpenter Tower, then walk along a bridge to the Potters Tower. Art Museums
Nestled in the heart of Sibiu, the Natural History Museum is a treasure trove for anyone captivated by the marvels of our planet. Established in 1849 by nature enthusiasts from the Transylvanian Society of Natural Sciences, this museum showcases an impressive array of exhibits that delve into local flora, fauna, and geology. Visitors can wander through displays that recreate natural habitats and marvel at a delightful dinosaur garden outside—perfect for family photo ops!
The National History Museum in Sibiu, focused primarily on the local fauna, offers an engaging and educational experience for visitors of all ages. The dioramas are truly exceptional, among the best and most modern I’ve encountered, and better than Antipa in Bucharest. But very very small compared to it. Even so they realistically recreate natural habitats, showcasing animals in their native environments with impressive detail and accuracy. It feels like stepping into a snapshot of nature, offering a deeper appreciation of Romania's rich biodiversity. The museum provides a wealth of knowledge about local wildlife, with clear explanations and thoughtfully arranged exhibits. It’s an excellent place to learn about native species, their behaviors, and their ecological roles. However, a small downside is the lack of card payment options, which can be inconvenient in today’s cashless world. It’s something that could be improved to enhance the overall visitor experience. Despite this minor inconvenience, the National History Museum in Sibiu is well worth a visit, offering a captivating journey through the region's natural heritage. Whether you're a nature lover, a family with kids, or simply curious about the local fauna, this museum is a rewarding experience. Just remember to bring cash along for your ticket!

This Museum is really well put together, and the exhibits are impressive. There are some truly unique things to see, but the museum is quite small, so you can explore it quickly. It took us only half an hour to see it. Whether it’s worth a visit depends on what you enjoy, but it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re curious. The building and the exhibition are beautiful.

This place is super cool. Very old-world feel, lots of creepy crawlies in jars and old taxidermied animals. It's small (really just one floor) but it's also very cheap. Worth popping in to take a look, especially for kids. If you have a kid who really likes animals they could have a blast looking at all the specimens, but even the less interested would still get a kick out of it.

Turnul Dulgherilor, a remarkable historic tower in Sibiu, dates back to the 14th century and was constructed as part of the city's defensive fortifications. Standing at an impressive height of 66 feet (20 meters), this architectural gem showcases a stunning octagonal pyramid-shaped roof made from brick and stone. It played a crucial role in protecting the city following the Tartars' invasion in the mid-13th century.
The Carpenters tower is part of a history assembly together with the Potters tower and a section of the fortification walls. You can start your visit in the Carpenters tower by paying a small fee (2 lei - approx 0.5€). In the tower you can see some photographs displaying information about the carpenters guild in Sibiu. Once you climb to the top of the tower you can walk through the fortified walls all the way to the Potters Tower. This section will provide some nice views over Cetății Street and the nearby park. In the Potters tower you will find also some displays with information about the potters guild in Sibiu. Upon descend you will find yourself on Cetății Street, just 100 meters from where you started.

The “Saint Mary” Evangelical Cathedral is a stunning 14th-century Gothic-style church located in the Upper Town of Sibiu. It features a towering steeple that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and its surroundings from the bell tower. Inside, visitors can admire intricate stained glass windows, a beautiful altar, and one of Romania's largest historic pipe organs. Climbing to the top provides an exhilarating experience with sweeping vistas of Sibiu's cityscape.
Wow, just wow! This cathedral is seriously impressive. From the moment you see it, you can tell it’s something special. The architecture is stunning, and the history just oozes from the walls. We spent ages just wandering around, taking it all in. The real highlight for us was climbing up to the roof and clock tower. The views of Sibiu from up there are absolutely incredible – a perfect photo opportunity! You can see the whole city spread out beneath you. Definitely worth the climb (though maybe not for those scared of heights!). Inside, the cathedral is just as beautiful, with so many interesting details. Make sure you take your time to look at everything. Honestly, if you’re visiting Sibiu, you HAVE to visit this cathedral. It’s an experience you won’t forget. Highly recommended!

The cathedral is a key landmark and a must-see for anyone walking through Sibiu.

A really beautiful cathedral that has lots of information about previous mayors of Sibui. A really nice place to visit price of a ticket is also really nice especially for students. You also get a stunning view out of the tower which is really some stairs up. But the view is worth it.

Another hallmark of Sibiu, one of the oldest cult buildings in the city, visiting this place is a must - especially if there are concerts (or rehearsals) inside which will make it come alive. If you're here in December, come visit it to see the Christmas Tree and the festivities. Also, you should climb the tower as the view from up top is great!
Ana-Maria A — Google review
Tickets cost 15 lei (3 euro) for the church and 25 lei (5 euro) for the church + the tower. I got a ticket for both the church and the tower and it was well worth it. Along with this, shortly after I entered there was a tour in Romanian, which I listened to. The tour was not a walk through the church, but was rather you sitting and listening to the guide give you information on the history of the place. The church was initially Catholic until the Protestant revolution when the parishioners were converted to Lutheranism. The organ inside is one of the largest in southeast Europe, and was the first organ in Romania! In fact, there are two organs inside the church, both being very beautiful. Along with this, there are many tombstones and carvings of the leaders of Sibiu and other important personalities local to the area. Both Catholic and Lutheran impressions have been well kept and preserved, so you can note the transition of faith over time, seeing Art styles from both creeds in one building. The bell tower, however, is the real treat. There are a lot of stairs, so be mindful that it is a brief climb to the top. On your way up, you also pass the gigantic bell! Once you reach the spire, the views are spectacular. Well worth the visit, both to the church and the tower.
John W — Google review
A beautiful church to visit, with very fair entry prices and the chance to climb the tower for great views. I was lucky to attend a free evening concert here, which made the visit even more special. The Wi-Fi is surprisingly fast, and the QR codes around the church give excellent explanations of the stone art. Staff were very welcoming and spoke both English and German. Highly recommended!
DM G — Google review
The church is interesting, the memorials with inscriptions are interesting- worth scanning some of the QR codes to see the stories. The tower is very interesting - an exposed climb up past the clock mechanism (sadly in a shed like structure and not on view) and the impressive bells, before being able to peer across the rooftops from the four mini turrets around the steeple. Well worth the admission charge.

Nestled in the heart of Sibiu, Muzeul Național "Brukenthal" is a treasure trove for art enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Housed in the stunning palace of Samuel von Brukenthal, a notable Habsburg governor, this museum boasts an impressive collection that dates back to its establishment in 1790. As Romania's oldest museum, it opened its doors to the public in 1817 and has since become a cultural cornerstone.
The museum is really big covering most of Brukental's Palace, but I can assure you that won't get bored at all. The collection covered here is top-notch, and for an insanely small entrance fee, you have a lot of art and sculptures (if you can access the lapidarium) to enjoy.
Sabo R — Google review
The most notable aspect of this museum is its second floor, which houses a remarkable collection. However, the overall experience was somewhat disappointing. Unfortunately, there was a lack of information provided about the majority of the pieces, and the organization of the exhibits seemed disjointed, transitioning abruptly between religious artifacts, contemporary art, and 17th-century relics. Additionally, the museum staff was rather intrusive, following us closely throughout our visit and engaging in distracting conversations among themselves.
Alinnus1 — Google review
The museum is absolutely stunning. The building itself is gorgeous and you can really see the Baroque and Rococo style in the furniture and interior design. Inside, you’ll find impressive masterpieces by great artists such as Nicolae Grigorescu and Ștefan Luchian, alongside fascinating pieces from Samuel von Brukenthal’s own collection — it’s a wonderful way to see his passions and interests come to life. The staff are incredibly kind and helpful, always ready to offer guidance or answer questions. Even the garden and courtyard are beautiful and worth spending time in. Overall, it was an outstanding experience, a true highlight of Sibiu that I recommend.

The Brukenthal Palace represents one of the Baroque treasures of Central Europe. The construction of this imposing edifice had no other purpose, from the very beginning, than the creation of a propitious background for the conservation of an art collection and of antiquities having an inestimable value.

For Romania nice paintings from Cranach, Bruegel, Rubens, Jordaens and Italian masters. Also many Romanian paintings. There are more paintings than expected if you look at the facade of the building, a former Palace. For one ticket one can visit the European and Romanian collection. I was less satisfied with the personel. I was taking pictures when a lady asked me if I had paid for my camera. I didn't because at the ticket counter there was no mentioning of a photo tax. See proof of my photos. Looking at the website it is for professional photography. My camera is a compact camera with a small sensor. Nowhere near a professional camera like a DSLR or other full frame or 4/3 inch. It would cost RON 500, €100!. One can take pictures with a smartphone though. I advised the lady at the ticket booth to draw one line, because it is ridiculous that you can't take pictures. Old times persist in this museum.

Impressive museum with impressive paintings and different exhibits. They have 2 exhibitions: European and Romanian, for each one you have to pay a different entrance fee. I was disappointed about the staff (one person, not all of them). She ask me to don’t take pictures. I’ve visited a lot of museums and I’ve never seen this kind of attitude before, but this is only in my country. Most of the museums don’t have this policy, but on the contrary being happy when people are taking pictures and sharing them on social media, because they know this will help them to get more visibility and be promoted by tourists. Unfortunately we still have this communism mindset. 🫤 But I still took pictures 🤘

Housed in a 13th-century Gothic building that once served as the Town Hall, the museum offers an extensive collection of artifacts spanning from the Paleolithic era to the 20th century. Visitors can explore exhibits such as the Roman and Medieval Lapidarium, Arms and Armours section, Treasury, Glasswork in Transylvania, and Guilds of Sibiu.
The Altemberger house was built using gotic architecture to be the residence of the Altemberger family. For 400 years it housed the town hall. The museum presents the way the people used to live in the region (prehistoric times to medieval period). The kids will enjoy also the guns & armor collection.
Viorel I — Google review
An interesting and diverse collection, although the interpretation is limited in places with only basic information presented in Romanian, German and (in most parts) English. The importance of the guild system, with many artefacts, is well shown. Also a good if small coin collection and arms and armour collection. The lapidaries, with collections of Roman and Medieval stonework, were sadly closed as of mid-June 2024.

This is a terrific smaller museum that makes the most of its excellent collection. I’ve visited quite a few museums in Romania over the last three weeks, a common issue is all the info being only in Romanian. This museum has cleverly gotten around that issue by setting up displays that are self-explanatory, although there are brief notes. It was a treat to be able to walk through and just enjoy the tableaus that “show you” shelter styles, pottery, weapons and jewelry from various periods. Eventually you do get some signage, but lighting is a problem. The collection is very good, but we do need to be able to actually see it and the explanations. Still, this museum is well worth your time - don’t miss the outstanding historic coin collection in the tower!

I really enjoyed this history museum, the building itself is beautiful. The exhibits are interesting and give you a glimpse into Sibiu’s local traditions, and even the early days of Freemasonry here. The staff were kind and helpful, which made the visit even nicer. A great spot if you want to dive deeper into Sibiu’s past. This museum is definitely worth a visit.

This museum is BIG. Don't let the small gate fool you. It has a lot of things exhibited, and it is a nice way to spend an hour or two. Furniture, gold coins, weapons and armours, glass piecea, iron work, wood work, all placed in an old castle.
Simina P — Google review
Very nice Collection but hardly any information in English telling the story of artifacts and history, which is probably amazing. Building itself is also very nice.
Arha — Google review
Can't really recommend this one too much. It's in a beautiful historic building and has a great collection of objects. However, there is very little information even in Romanian (less of course in English), though the lapidarium is a little better in that regard. It really doesn't tell a story and hence is more like a museum to old objects - not Sibiu history. At over 8 USD, not a very satisfying experience. The childhood exhibit, which I think is temporary, is an exception : cool stuff + good storytelling.

The building itself is a great architectural monument of Sibiu , it houses the museum , which is not large but it is certainly worth a visit if you enjoy history . Visited on 1 sept 23 , ticket was 39 lei (4 euros) , located in the city center , it closes at 18:00 during the working days . It has many exhibits , a souvenir shop and facilities .

Café Wien is a cozy Vienna coffeehouse that offers a variety of delicious breakfast options, from a cup of coffee to an eggs benedict. The cafe also has beautiful outdoor seating in the summertime.
Excellent service and delicious food with big portions. The veal schnitzel was tender and the strudel reminded me of the one I ate in Germany. They have big portions too. The lady's room was clean and waiter attentive. We'll return!

The coffee is delicious and the hugo tastes quite good. I loved the desserts and the poached eggs I had for breakfast were grate. The staff is fun and friendly. This is officially my favourite cafe in Sibiu.
Rebecca S — Google review
I got the chicken schnitzel with the seasonal salad (which ended up being a bowl of sliced tomatoes and cucumbers with nothing on it.) The schnitzel, I added the mushroom sauce to it, and that's what really did the trick. Otherwise the food was good, but nothing spectacular and certainly not for the prices they are charging. You're paying more for the view than the food honestly. They had some unique drinks that, while may be known, aren't commonly listed on menus, such as a cafe Mozart (espresso and baileys). Overall worth the stop if you're tired of the options of pizza, pasta and traditional Romanian offered almost everywhere else.

This is an absolute gem in Sibiu! I cannot recommend this place enough. The best beef soup I ever had except for my mom's house, the most amazing and crunchy huge schnitzel, the chicken schnitzel burger is also delicious, light, fluffy bun, perfect ratio of other ingredients and their fried are not frozen and come by huge portions. The drinks are so good quality, highly recommend the lemonades and teas. Excellent service, fast and polite. The location is also magnificent, offering a rooftop view of Sibiu! Don't miss it, even the prices are more than reasonable! I will surely come here again in my next visit in Sibiu. Thank you for offering amazing experiences to your guests!

The cafe is located near the Evangelical Church, in the same court. The atmosphere is warm & cozy, the live piano music being a plus. The menu is rich, there are plenty of drinks to choose from. The service was great, the waiter was friendly and helpful.

I visited Café Wien yesterday, and it felt like stepping into a time machine. The place perfectly captures the charm of old establishments, where you can create memorable moments even with strangers or simply enjoy a cup of nice coffee. The café is very clean, well-maintained, and tastefully decorated. The staff is professional, very elegant, and polite. The food was delicious -- I had the home-made strudel with spinach and feta cheese, topped with what looked like handmade cream cheese. The only downside, but a significant one, was the music INSIDE the café. It didn’t match the interior or the classy atmosphere. Tracks like Gangsta’s Paradise feel out of place and really mess with the mind! Music in a café should be relaxing and pleasant, not aggressive or stressful, as it affects the overall experience and even digestion. Please correct this mismatch -- it would make the experience perfect! :) Love from Bulgaria

Pardon Cafe & Bistro Sibiu is a charming eatery located on the picturesque street of Sibiu, offering a unique dining experience. The restaurant boasts an extensive menu featuring original recipes by chef Marius Rafa, including delectable salads, pastas, and a secret recipe salmon dish. Their dessert selection is equally impressive with famous fruit tortes and chocolate tortes.
We just stopped for a drink in the terrasse. The waiter told me that I could go upstairs to see the rest of the place, even if it was closed at that moment. It's a beautiful place, and the friendliness of that specific person warmed my heart :)

Absolutely marvellous dinner at Pardon! We started the dinner being received by Claudio who welcomed us and assist us through the dinner in warm and helpful way. Marius, the chef, also greeted us in a very kind way. The food is just formidable. From the soup to the main dishes, everyone was very happy with their food. Super delicious and well prepared dishes. We highly recommend Pardon to everyone who visits Sibiu. We wish all the best to Claudio, Marius and the team!

As a short review, this place is pretty good and cozy. We chose the patio, as the weather was perfect. The waiter was great. She handled our silly jokes with elegance. The food? Pretty good. I chose the mussels. Though, they were not the best mussels ever, they were pretty good. My only complain was that I had to pay cash. I knew beforehand, as I was informed when I made the reservation, but still, in 2024, I had to pay cash in the old town of Sibiu? This is pretty ridiculous. I hope they fix this issue next time I'll visit and I will update my rating.

Portuguese restaurant
Restaurant
Old Lisbon Sibiu is a unique restaurant in the heart of Sibiu, Romania, offering traditional Portuguese cuisine with a mix of aromatic flavors. The emphasis here is on fish and seafood dishes seasoned with fiery chili pepper, black pepper, cinnamon, vanilla, saffron, garlic, coriander and parsley.
I just came across this restaurant. It has a set daily lunch 37lei, menu 12pm-4pm. Soup (2choices), course 2 -meat dish (3 choices), and a choice between 2 veg dishes and 2 salad dishes, dessert and still or sparkling water. Good food, great service. Excellent value, all overlooking the church clock tower.
John B — Google review
I would have given a solid 5 stars, primarily because of the service – it’s rare to encounter such professional table service, with the correct attitude towards customers, excellent etiquette, and flawless English. The lady who served us could easily be a benchmark for outstanding service. I would also give 5 stars for the food – generous portions, beautifully presented dishes, and wonderful flavors. However, I am giving 4 stars because I visited the restaurant twice within three days. On both occasions, I had seafood, and each time, one of the shrimp in my dish was not properly cleaned. We mentioned this to the waitress the first time, but it happened again on the second visit, which is unacceptable. In summary, 5 stars for the restaurant, the ambiance, the service, the portions, and the food, but minus one star to highlight the above-mentioned issue.

Food was just okay: my bacalao was too salty and dry, and the pork was the same. For $25, I expected better quality. The place is clean, staff are friendly, but don’t expect much English. Great location, but overall, it felt overpriced for what we got.

Old restaurant in Sibiu city center, with the intention of reproducing Portuguese food. Good sangria. Live music. The dishes look good but are reinterpreted by the chef - I ordered paella and received Indian rice with curry and cumin. Expensive.

Max The Original is a restaurant rich in memories, perfect for family gatherings, business meetings, and friendly get-togethers. Their modern menu focuses on the flavors of local and seasonal ingredients, ensuring a delightful culinary journey. The head chef, Gilu, highly recommends their authentic dish - beef ribs with oven-baked potatoes and seasoned roasted beets accompanied by spinach sauté and demi-glace sauce infused with wine. This combination showcases the unique taste of local produce in an authentic manner.
This place was pretty great! Birds were singing in the bathroom, the waiter kept making jokes and the inside was damn cozy. As for the food, the food was just great! The food was delicious and it arrived very fast! The service was 50/50. We had two people coming to our table. One of them was very nice and respectful! Payment by card was not possible, it was a hand written sign in the door which we did not notice so we had to go to an atm to take out some cash... Place was cozy and decorated beautifuly for Christmas!

A delightful time dining here (twice!) This is a great Italian style casual restaurant. Has a nice open courtyard plus a large indoor seating area. We went there on both nights during our visit to Sibiu (once in courtyard & once inside) and served by the lovely Roxanna who was friendly, helpful & made us feel welcome with her smiles & attentive service (despite restaurant being very busy both nights). The food is delicious, generous in portions & reasonably priced. The drinks menu had a decent range of local wines priced below 100 lei. Standouts of our food was the grilled octopus, the duck dish, steak, fish as well as the various pastas & salads. Our group of 9 managed to try out almost the entire menu during our 2 visits & no dish disappointed us! Our 2nd visit was by default as we decided to leave another restaurant around the corner due to bad indifferent service plus no food after 90 minutes of waiting (check my other review for this) & arrived after 9 pm. Despite being busy, Roxanne found us a table of 9, organised our drinks/meal & we were happily eating away within 10 minutes of being seated. Excellent service from all the wait staff - they gave us good eye contact & checked on tables frequently to clear dishes etc, smiled alot & were sincere in ensuring we enjoyed our meal. There was even live music in the courtyard during our 2nd visit - very entertaining & enjoyable. Well done Max The original & we highly recommend this place.

I strongly recommend Max - nestled in the beautiful old town of Sibiu, it was really a pleasure to spend the night there. Food was so good, especially the beef that Bogdan recommended was amazing, maybe the best we've tried. The cornmeal cheesecake was truly delightful too (still thinking about it). The ambiance was warm and very cozy for a winter night. And as a bonus - there is a wheelchair accessible entrance (it's an alternative one so notify the place in advance) and wheelchair accessible toilet. Will definitely come back again if I'm in Sibiu.
Vesela D — Google review
Wonderful surprise only because they were open on Easter Sunday and I sort of had no choice but the food and service exceeded my expectations. I've had the tartare which was decent but a tad overpriced for the quantity and lamb chops with aubergine, the last dish was superlative. The drinks menu is separate from the food menu and quite varied although the draught beer selection is very limited, wine selection is much better. The service was excellent, considerate waitresses, short time waiting for the dishes and very professional. They have a lot of space on the terrace and inside, nicely decorated and located in an old house that's an historical monument.

There are many shops and restaurants, making it an ideal place to buy snacks or find dinner before a show. The market has those concrete stairs that make it easy to find a spot to watch performances.
Haberman Markt is like an explanade that also has some food cabins, with different shops that offers specialty coffee, croissants, sandwiches, italian food, wraps, donuts, etc. Next to it therr is like a square where i could enjoy a great show during FITS (Festival Internacional of Theatre Sibiu).

pretty cool place with a lot of potential. the thing is that now is pretty empty because there is not so much pedestrian traffic and the rent for commercial spaces is pretty high. about 1000 euros for a simple spave with one entrence, about 1600 euros for a double space with two entrences. there are bathrooms there and they are free of charge. little to none shaded spaces, so if you go there, prepare for a walk under the sun.

The thick tower, built in the 16th century, is a massive building made of rock at the bottom and brick at the upper part. The tower has several levels for defence and a cannon platform. The white and yellow coloured tower has a peculiar outlook with the holes and windows of different sizes and forms. The thick tower was built like the letter U. Lacking the necessary space in the towncenter the Mayor Martin Hochmeister founded in 1788 the first theatre In Transsylvania in the thick Tower at the defense belt of the Sibiu town. In 1949 the theatre was destroyed by a fire. The tower had restoration works. The old theatre was rebuilt at the same place and reopened in 2004 as Thalia Hall. I went to a jazz competition and it was really nice. The interiors looks great and they take me to a jurney around 18th century for sure.

The Potters Tower, a centuries-old defense tower in Sibiu, stands at 20 meters tall and showcases archer holes. It was built by the Saxon guild of potters in the fifteenth century as part of the city's third fortification belt. Visitors can explore this historic landmark and its adjacent walls, with informative signs detailing the city's history. The tower is surrounded by a picturesque park alley and offers a glimpse into medieval Sibiu's guild systems.
The Potters tower is part of a history assembly together with the Carpenters tower and a section of the fortification walls.

The Potters’ Tower (Turnul Olarilor) is one of the well-preserved medieval defense towers in Sibiu, Romania. Built in the 14th century, it was part of the city’s second fortification line and named after the potters’ guild, which was responsible for its maintenance and defense. Its distinctive cylindrical shape and thick stone walls reflect its strategic importance. Today, the tower is a historical reminder of Sibiu’s rich past and a great spot for those exploring the city’s medieval charm.

The Museum of Hunting August von Spiess is a charming five-room museum in Transylvania that showcases the history of hunting. It features an array of taxidermy, hunting weapons such as rifles, crossbows, and guns, as well as mounted trophies. The exhibits are presented in a homey setting and offer insights into the fascinating world of hunting. Visitors can explore the life of Colonel August von Spiess through quality displays and informative English booklets.
Wasn’t sure about it but once there, I was amazed by the building and once inside, I discovered a true natural science museum. The fascinating life of the colonel, the quality of the exhibits, everything is very interesting. Entrance fee 12 lei (around 2,5 euros or almost 3$). You also have a different kind of souvenir shop, with quality items and books where you really can buy a nice souvenir at a very decent price. I strongly recommend visiting! Was there on a tour with “The Saxon House Garbova”.

Interesting place, a bit horror for children smaller then 6/7 yo. We saw stuffed animals and old rifles, really cool. The ticket lady was very polite and nice and the tickets were really cheap, 10 lei for adults and 5 lei for children. I totally recommend this museum!

Very interesting museum hosted in the house which was owned by August von Spiess. The collection is very well maintained and I liked it had general info about the animals on display and the history of hunting in Romania. Not to be missed if visiting Sibiu.

Wonderful little museum featuring hundreds of hunting items in five rooms. There are pelts, trophies, bows and rifles, but the best part is that it's made to be understood as a story of hunting in Transylvania and beyond (one room has exhibits from Africa) The price for admittance is about 2 euros, reasonable for what you get to see

Definitely worth a visit. Excellent collection of stuffed animals and birds as well as antique weapons, beautifully and elegantly presented. The staff are very helpful too. Highly recommended.

A superb little museum with shows a lot of history and how August von Spiess loved this country's lands, forests and above all animals. Please do give it a try, it's worth it!

Sandwich Pub Sibiu is a recommended restaurant located 632 meters away, serving international cuisine. It offers an exceptional dining experience with their delicious sandwiches and diverse menu options. The beef pastrami is outstanding - it's smoky, tender, and simply melts in your mouth. They also have various types of sandwiches that are surely excellent; you'll want to try them all! Their Reuben and Popeye menus are particularly noteworthy, accompanied by tasty onion rings.
I swear that if you're either hungry or not, there's no other choice for a good sandwich within Sibiu. These guys would get 10 stars on this scale of 1-5. Absolutely amazing beef and I'm sorry I just discovered them a few days ago. Recommend!!! 1st of march 2023 excellent food, the people serving are nice and never had i not enjoyed their food. I come here at least once a month.

So this is the first time I ate from this sandwich place and I have to say:OAU! People when you come to Sibiu you have to check this place out! The beef pastrami is amazing, smoked, tender, and it just melts in your mouth! They have several types of sadwiches and I'm sure all are great- I'll have to try them all. I had the Reuben menu, and my wife got Popey menu. We aded some extra onion rings. It's 10/10! Remember all my reviews are based on my taste and as usual it will be different from person to person. Sandwich Pub keep up the good work! Check on you soon!
Daniel M — Google review
Tried a Reuben, it's good but it could probably use more pastrami or the pastrami could be more flavoured as you can't really feel it's flavour through the other ingredients. The pastrami itself is good quality, it's not chewy or too salty. The onion rings are also very good.
Dragos B — Google review
A must visit if you go to Sibiu. Delicious sandwiches at really great prices. I had an amazing Reuben sandwich with pastrami and extra fried potatoes, crispy outside and soft inside. Go and try!
Giorgos B — Google review
Family business with hard working and very nice staff. The food is truly tasteful and the price is more than affordable. The quality of the meat is out of this world... It's a pity that this is a new place and people are not even aware that it exists. If you like good meat you MUST try it here. It's a small space but cozy and very comfortable.

Leon Restaurant, located on the picturesque Strada Balcescu, offers a delightful dining experience with both indoor and covered outdoor seating. The restaurant boasts charming decor inside and out. Guests can enjoy a variety of dishes including hamburgers, meats, fish, and soups from 12:00 to 18:00. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Restaurant Leon in Sibiu, and I must say it was a fantastic experience! The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a meal. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring that our needs were met throughout our visit. The menu offered a delightful selection of dishes, each beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. I particularly enjoyed the Beef steak which was cooked to perfection. It's clear that the chefs take pride in their work, using fresh ingredients to create delicious meals. Overall, I highly recommend Restaurant Leon to anyone visiting Sibiu. Whether you're looking for a casual meal or a place to celebrate a special occasion, you won't be disappointed!

Had a wonderful dinner sharing a tomahawk steak with my wife. The steak was cooked perfectly and the portion was more than generous. Came with grilled vegetables, dipping sauces, french fries and bread. Our server Paul was very friendly and attentive, he made us feel at home offering blankets on a cool evening. We stayed 5 days in Sibiu and did not have a bad meal but Leon was definitely the best. Very nice outdoor setting for a late night meal.

good food, nice people, the soup was already very saturating, so i couldn’t eat all of my second meal
Jule K — Google review
Absolutely loved our dinner at Leon! We just got back from a trip through the Côte d’Azur — places like Nice, Cannes, Monaco, and Antibes — and honestly, the food we had at Leon in Sibiu was better than most of what we tried over there. Everything was incredibly fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully plated without being over-the-top. You can tell the kitchen really cares about both the ingredients and the details. We weren’t expecting such high-level food in such a relaxed, welcoming setting — it was a lovely surprise. The service was excellent too: warm, attentive, and professional without feeling stiff. We felt truly looked after. It’s rare that we leave a restaurant already talking about when we’ll come back — but this was one of those times. Leon easily ranks among the best meals we’ve had, not just in Sibiu, but anywhere recently. Highly, highly recommended.

RIBS & BEER SIBIU is a great place to eat if you are in Sibiu. The ribs are especially tasty and the beer is top notch. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting.
Great food, I felt like ordering a second Dracula rib - it was very good. The coleslaw is nice, and when I have asked to swap fries for stewed cabbage it was not too much. Beer is great, had 3 pints of the locally produced IPA. I will surely return.

The place is located in the city center, but it is a nice alternative to the touristy terraces that all over the place. It has a friendly vibe, low key … as if it’s a place where you go to hang out with your buddies, have a good beer and some hearty food. The food is very tasty, full of flavor. The staff is attentive but not bothering … just there where you need them.

Had a great night here. I'm based on and off in Brasov but went to Sibiu for one night for my birthday. After a few beers, I popped in here for some ribs and ended up sitting with the staff at the bar. They were awesome. Just wanted to say thanks for the hospitality. Special shout out to Marius (I hope I got your name right) super friendly kind guy. Also a Sagittarian 😂 and had a birthday. 🥃🥃thanks dude. Ribs are great. I went for the spicy ones but next time I'd go for plain. Just to taste the meat better. But very tasty. Beers are fantastic but everyone knows that in Sibiu

It’s not that good as they said. Popular place with decent food. Although my glass of water had some algae smell or smth idk… Ribs are good and soft, Transylvanian is ok 👌 But in general it’s quite pricey Waiters are nice though
Dennis K — Google review
In my opinion and experience, the dish wasn't good. The bun completely fell apart, the bacon was pink and not crispy. One pickle only in the dish. One dip only on the side, for dipping the fries. For a place who's trying to give an American vibe I wasn't impressed at all. Not to mention the waiter was not impressed when I told him about my experience, not calling anyone or letting a manager know, just saying sorry. Maybe it's better with other dishes. Also, the prices here on Google Maps aren't updated, and it's ain't so cheap. Cheers

La Arhive is a highly recommended restaurant in Sibiu, offering an authentic Romanian dining experience. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, with live music adding to the ambiance. The outdoor terrace provides a great setting for enjoying the delicious food and excellent service. Dishes such as mici, ciulama de ciuperci, and sour cabbage are particularly praised by visitors. Despite some initial delays in service, patrons appreciate the attentive staff and the opportunity to savor their meals without feeling rushed.
Very tasty food. Nice and quite atmosphere, in the city center of Sibiu. We ate fish, chicken soup and pork with white beans. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere was relaxing with very nice music.

Ordered musaka with potatoes and cream, got meat. It didn't mention in the meal that it has meat inside. Another meal also had different items that what was written in the menu. All had to end in trash because noone from our group would eat that meat. And before the owner tried to explain that meat is automatic, it's not automatic everywhere. The items should be specified in the menu. You should also not randomly put a ham in a meal and not mention it.
Adriána F — Google review
Service was good! About food, I am not going to order pizza from here, again, in my life. It is not bad, but it is waste of money. Pastas are fantastic! You better order pasta. "Ciorba raudauteana" was also good. The trout was not not great. Coffees are good. The patio is nice, in the middle of the city!

Walking around Sibiu, we heard live music from one restaurant. So we decided to go in and look at the menu. We saw national Romanian cuisine on the menu and decided to stay here. Great atmosphere, outdoor terrace, guitarist and piano. This is what you need for a good evening. But the food is just as important. We ordered mici, potatoes with chicken and mushrooms baked with cheese; pork with vegetables. And it was really very tasty. Good service, great food, amazing atmosphere! We were very satisfied, we will definitely come back here!
Veronika V — Google review
An adorable place to take a breather just before entering the city center. Went here today with my wife, we both tried the local beer, Augusta, clearly enjoyed it. For food we ordered sibian pork with stuffed potatoes(it's so good) and a pepperoni pizza(loved it). I can strongly reccomend this nice and laid-back restaurant. Also, tables can accomodate more than 4 people.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at La Arhive, and it was a truly excellent experience. The atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable, with dim lighting and a pleasant buzz of conversation. It's a great place to relax and enjoy a special occasion. The service was also top-notch. Lorena was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making great recommendations. Every member of the staff was professional and made us feel welcome. Thank you Lorena for going above and beyond to make our evening unforgettable.
Cossmar M — Google review
Just after arriving into Sibiu we stumbled across this place on a side street when looking for a place to eat. As it was a nice day and outdoor seating we went in and despite a slow start the service throughout was great. We were told that due to the kitchen being busy it may be a longer wait but to be honest that is not a problem as we don't like to be rushed whne eating anyway. For starters we had the aubergine dip, ciorba Di burta and fried cheese. All were great although we didn't quite realise how big the portions were going to be as we probably ate way to much to begin with. But the soup was tasty and the dip was the highlight with really tasty home made bread to go along with it. For mains I had the shepherds special which had Polenta, sheeps cheese and sheeps meat and it was great, full of flavour the meat was tender and tasty and tbh I wouldn't usually go for sheeps meat but this changed my mind completely. We had a beer to go along with it and coffee for dessert and it only came to around 30 English pound so was an absolute bargain for what was a really great meal. In the evening I believe they have live music so would be worth a visit and it's literally 1 minute from the main square.

The Sibiu Steam Engines Museum is a captivating destination for those intrigued by the history of rail travel in Romania. This unique museum boasts an impressive collection of over 30 steam locomotives, each representing a significant chapter in the evolution of locomotive technology and design. Visitors can wander through various exhibits that highlight these magnificent machines, offering insight into the country's rich industrial heritage. While many of these historic trains are no longer operational, some still see occasional use on special occasions.
This is a still functioning train depot / train maintenance facility. As the time passed by, old steam engines have been retired from active service and left on site. They have not been restored, but rather preserved. You might be expected to sign your name in the visitor´s book as you enter the facility, but you do not need to pay for your entry. An employee might discretely accompany you at least at the beginning of your visit - to make sure you do not wander off to dangerous areas where trains are still moving. A nice place, I really enjoyed the visit and would certainly recommend it.
John V — Google review
Very cool place to see some old steam engine. There is no ticket so you can enter the place and wander around. Someone frome the security will discreetly follow you to make sure you won't walk we're you are not supposed To go. We used Uber to go there but there's a free parking lot in front of the entrance

Visiting the Old Locomotives Museum was an amazing experience filled with nostalgia and history. The collection of vintage engines is truly impressive and offers a fascinating glimpse into the golden age of rail travel. However, many of the locomotives are in poor condition and clearly in need of restoration. With some care and preservation, this museum could become a real gem for train enthusiasts and history lovers alike.
Dem P — Google review
Free of charge museum of old steam engines. Most of them won't survive the next years as they are very, very rosty. But visiting may help to create some spirit of preservation of the steam engines.
Stephan W — Google review
The museum displays some interesting railway machinery such as: steam locomotives, steam crane, steam snow plow. The acces is free and the place is quite easy to find, just across from the main train station. The exhibits are in an acceptable condition, but information boards are missing.
Viorel I — Google review
Always a pleasure to visit the open air museum. Kids are always excited even if they went there 5 times already. This year they added short descriptions (in romanian only) for a few locomotives. Grateful this still exists 🚂
C M — Google review
A very nice open-air museum with some old trains and steam locomotives. Unfortunately, you can't climb on the trains, so it loses one star. But the good thing is you don't have to buy Tickets because it's free.
Sebastian S — Google review
We loved to visit the Museum, it's great that it's free but like you will read in other comments not well maintained. It closes at 15h00 so be on time, a visit would not be taking a lot more than 30minutes. Behind the steam trains there are still some things in operational service. For example, we were walking on the turning circle, which they use to turn the trains, someone came to us that we shouldn't be there, 15min later a train was being turned on the circle for the Sibiu train station. It was for us not directly clear where the museum ended, and the still operational part began. Nevertheless, it was a nice experience :-) Thanks for the people / organization keeping it accessible.

Stairs Passage, also known as the Passage of Steps, is a historic route in Sibiu that dates back to the 13th century. This picturesque passage features a moderate, winding slope and connects the Upper Town to the Lower Town. The architectural masterpiece includes twin staircases, archways, and high brick retaining walls with flying buttresses for reinforcement. It is a popular spot for amateur photographers, especially during dusk in summer when the lighting is magical.
Stairs Passage in Sibiu is a striking walkway linking the Upper and Lower Town, with brick arches and worn cobblestones that feel frozen in time. It’s a quick stop, but worth it for the photo angles and the sense of history built into every step. Best enjoyed on a quiet morning when the arches frame the view without crowds.

Located in the Large Square, Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church is a prominent baroque church in Transylvania. Its interior is renowned for its elaborate altars, stunning frescoes, and intricate stained glass windows that leave visitors in awe. The church stands out amidst other religious buildings on Mitropoliei street, showcasing Sibiu's cultural and ecumenical essence.
A landmark in Sibiu that must be visited at least once. The baroque interior is very richly decorated, resembling the catholic churches in the West. Also go visit the tower for an amazing view of the centre and the pretty streets. It might seem scarry given the old stairs one has to climb, but it's totally worth it. When coming down to earth, you can wonder a bit and check some doors that will take you to the cript or to some stored art galery.

A really beautiful church with quite a unique vibe. When we visited, it was surprisingly dark inside, which gave it a slightly mysterious feel – as if someone in a hooded cloak might appear at any moment to whisper ancient secrets. Built in the 18th century in Baroque style, this church feels much more intimate and peaceful compared to the grand cathedrals elsewhere. And the best part? It’s often overlooked by tourists, so you can really soak in the quiet atmosphere without the crowds. (instagram --> michaelnae)

For a modest price which helps hold the museum alive, you get to see and learn some amazing things, like about Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, who lived in Sibiu (then known as Hermannstadt) for a period of time. He worked as a librarian and personal physician to Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, the imperial governor of Transylvania, during his stay there. This was an important chapter in his life before he fully developed the principles of homeopathy, and a piece of such history is found in the pharmacy museum's lab. The museum is basically an old pharmacy (with objects collected from various parts of Romania), formed of two rooms: the officina and the laboratory. It doesn't take so long to visit it, and it is totally worth it. Lovely experience. ❤️

The experience was satisfactory, but it left me wanting more. Although the museum houses numerous exhibits, it is small overall and does not captivate visitors who are not interested in its specific subject matter. The pieces appeared intriguing, and the brief historical explanations were appreciated. English translations were available.

A very nice experience especially for people that are connected to this area of science. Personally, I would’ve spent many hours to admire each and every corner had it not been for the closing hours 😅 all in all, I totally recommend it, especially if you want to visit a museum that is less crowded than others. Besides that, the guide there is a very jovial man that will tell you many interesting things about the history of the place and will encourage you to make as many photos as you want to spread the awareness about this museum.

This is a very cute little museum! If you're a modern day goblin and like Stuffs and Things, this is a great place. It's also interesting. Have you ever seen a tiny jar of arsenic? A box of mummy dust? It's cool!
Simina P — Google review
Very nice guards talking and explaining the history of the place and of the city. The ticket price is very cheap and the place was empty - super relaxing and vibey.
Catalin-Robert D — Google review
Small, easy, interesting. Just the right amount of stuff to get your head around. LOADS of glass bottles. The building is authentic. Worth your 30 minutes or so (I might have spent longer, myself).
Suz S — Google review
Fine museum if you're interested in the topic, otherwise you might want to skip it or not put it on top of the list. I'm a huge fan of such museums and the curation here l, although it could use a facelift, is on par with similar museums abroad like Krakow. There are a great number of exhibits and plenty of text to read in several languages including German and English, not a huge place but you can take quite some time visiting. The staff were also great and had plenty of extra tips to make the round up the visit
Klaus W — Google review
One of the most interesting museums in the area. There is a lot of truly fascinating items on the display, all in incredibly good condition, you can literally see the history of medicine making through those objects. Represents a special interest for those who practice homeopathy: Samuel Hahnemann lived and worked in Sibiu at some point in his life.

Churches & Cathedrals
Saint Ursula Roman Catholic Church, also known as Biserica Ursulinelor, is a historical gem in Sibiu. Originally built in the late 13th century for Dominican monks, it boasts a mix of Gothic and Baroque architectural styles. The church has a rich history, including ties to Ursula the nun and catacombs beneath its grounds. Once an Ursuline Monastery, it later became a congregational church after the sisters fled communist Romania post-WWII.
Such a nice contrast to the maximalist orthodox churches. We were lucky to stumble upon an evening music concert where the sounds and beautiful lighting gave the building a magical feel

Sadly the interior was all locked up but you could see through the bars. Information leaflet inside the door with some further details and the times of services posted - may have to coincide with them if you want to see the inside. Presumably the old girls school in a state of some disrepair alongside.

Old monastery, now it is a congregational church, the sisters fled communist Romania after WWII when the atheist regime closed monasteries. The church is well preserved very beautiful and fader Nicolae it is a strong personality amd it will steal your heart.

Nice beautiful church

This is a very nice Catholic church with a beautiful and well preserved architecture. I had the chance to visit this place twice during religions ceremonies and I must say that I totally love how the priest interacts with the people.

A very special old church with a rich history. Read the story of Ursula the nun. I think it should be a museum because of the old catacombs beneath. The tunnels communicate with the school, been there as as child. A visit to remember. I hope Ursula's tomb is still there.

It is really a place worth seeing if in Sibiu. Currently it hosts the Greco-Catholic parish.

This is a very unique church, my favorite from Sibiu but it's too bad that is not in a good condition.

Great coffee, interesting design, lovely place. It’s a must if you’re around!

Maybe one of the best coffee in Sibiu. Also, very tasty sandwiches. Fair prices, not very crowded but kind it slow service. Staff is great. Love this place. There is also a terrace.

Very friendly staff, perfect for coffee lovers but not only. The special yogurt is something I would recommend and the events they are organizing: breakfast, wine tasting, truffle & macarons tasting etc.
Iulia R — Google review
Amazing food probably the best burger I had in Sibiu we also had a piza that was delicious as well. It is outside but very warm even due to the heaters that are hanging above the table, great adaptations for the cold weather! Will definitely go back.

Great coffee place, very good breakfast granola box too. Ideally situated downtown, very good vibe.
Mihai T — Google review
Very bad customer service. The waitress charged us more than ordered. Also, she was very rude when we asked for sugar and she didn’t bring any. If you want to be ripped off, it’s the best place to have coffee (without sugar).
Ciobanu A — Google review
Amazing coffee and a small but tasty selection of cakes and morning bites. They have a covered terrace in front of the pharmacy museum. I had a traditional biscuit cake (salam de biscuiți) and a great black coffee. They also have really good breakfast dishes (muesli, cornflakes with berries, etc) all really tasty.

Restaurant
Nestled in the old town of Sibiu, Restaurant Pivnita de vinuri Weinkeller offers a quiet and cozy atmosphere, making it an ideal retreat after exploring the bustling tourist streets. The menu features a delightful blend of Romanian, German, and Hungarian dishes prepared with fresh ingredients sourced from the local Cibin Market. This hidden gem provides an opportunity to savor authentic local cuisine while enjoying a great wine selection.
Lovely place, a hidden gem in a 600 years old celery. A must for wine lovers, great variety. Good food. Tried the baked goat cheese dish with sweet & sour vegetables, it was super interesting and goes well with wine. Tochitura is also good. The onion pie is something else, it's not your typical pie, I see it more as an onion lasagna. Ask about it if not sure. The owners and staff are lovely too! Great atmosphere in a wonderful location within the beautiful old town. Reservations are recommended if you want to be sure.
Ana S — Google review
Such a lovely place to share a bottle of wine and some nice food. The resident cat is adorable, she even came to sit with us, and the owners are so friendly. We had a bottle of wine, one sharing platter and 2 mains for 240RON (£40/€48). They have an extensive selection of Romanian wine from all over the country at reasonable prices. We went off season and it was pretty quiet, but I recommend booking if you can especially if your party of larger and two people. I'd go back any time, loved it here!
Maria C — Google review
The food was on point, but what we enjoyed more was the owner, she was lovely, funny, and gave us great recommendations of wine (all of them were interesting). The place is stunning: the terrace is romantic and beautiful, and the inside is historical, like a brick tunnel. I highly recommend this restaurant.

An absolute gem! Great selection of Romanian wines and a select menu of Romanian/German dishes, with friendly service and lovely resident cats. It's tucked away from the crowds and incredibly peaceful - the best meal of our trip so far.

We spent an evening at Pivnița cu Vinuri. Even though the kitchen was closed, the staff kindly prepared a delicious cheese board for us, which made the experience very special. The recommended wine was perfect, and the waiter was extremely friendly. The atmosphere is cozy, quiet, and romantic, hard to find elsewhere. Prices are very reasonable. Truly an unmissable experience!

Looks like a gem, unfortunately had to look around for staff, then when asked to sit outside for a glass of wine, got turned around as “This is a restaurant, we only serve food and drinks” He wasn’t impressed with me in shorts and t-shirt. A bit disappointed as the place truly loos nice and i was looking for a quiet place to sit down and relax for a bit. Did not mark the food as did not get to try it.

Weinkeller is for spending quality time, I'd say the home away from home but this would totally be such a cliché... The good food in a cosy place, the good talk with the extremely friendly owner, the red blanket on a chilly summer evening, the wine of course - everything requires for a comeback any time.
Ileana R — Google review
Had a great time, owners are friendly and helpful, the wine list was really interesting and the food (sarmale) was really good as well. Bonus points for the cosy atmosphere and the resident cat.

The Restaurant Union in Sibiu is a highly popular dining destination for families and friends. It can be quite crowded, requiring some waiting time for a table, but the delectable cuisine and affordable prices make it well worth it. We just finished our dinner and the live violin music at the end made this the perfect evening

Was here for the breakfast, i couldn’t say that i was impressed but it was decent. Came here on a friend’s suggestion for a great breakfast, but it was not the case for me. The location is very pretty, decorated in a pure Romanian style with some old furniture elements. We will definitely be back to try the bean soup. Try it out, maybe it will be for you taste
