Very nice centre to get a good dose of retail therapy, the centre is very modern , located in the old town area with an underground car park to avail of. The centre is beside the canal with the boats frequently passing by . There are so many fashion shops and all the brand names as well as so many more . Definitely worth a visit whilst in town .

History Museums
Aveiro Museum, housed in a 15th-century convent, offers a glimpse into the city's history, art, and culture through its collection of religious art and artifacts. The museum is known for its striking architecture, including the tomb and choir of Princess Santa Joana, chapels, chapter room, and a richly decorated church with magnificent gilded carvings and tiles. It also features a religious collection comprising paintings, sculptures, and ancient furniture.
A small, beautiful museum. It used to be a cloister with multiple chapels, and it now has an adjacent museum. Here you can find more about Saint Princess Joanna story. Don't miss it if you like churches and you are in Aveiro!
Denise P — Google review
Originally founded in 1461 as the Convent of Jesus (Convento de Jesus), this building was later transformed in the 16th to 18th centuries with Baroque-style renovations. Since 1911, it has served as a museum. Today, it is an important cultural site where visitors can admire Baroque art, the tomb of Princess Saint Joana, intricate azulejo tilework, and architectural details of historical significance. It is particularly meaningful for those interested in art, architecture, and religious history. A highlight is the tomb of Santa Joana, designed by João Antunes, which showcases masterful marble craftsmanship. ※ Included in Aveiro Museum Pass.

The Aveiro Museum, set in the former Convent of Jesus, is a true cultural gem. Its stunning Baroque chapels and sacred art collections are breathtaking, and learning about Princess Saint Joana is inspiring. Even better, admission is free on the first Sunday of each month — a perfect chance to explore!
Esrf G — Google review
It is a surprising voluminous museum of princess Santa Joana. The rich collection of religious artifacts is a feast to the faithful. Even though I don't subscribe to Catholic teaching, the life of Princess Santa Joana must have been a story of devotion that moved and loved by many.

Beautiful museum. Very affordable. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Not too busy. Parking was a small challenge because it is located in a popular part of Aveiro but it only took ten minutes to find a spot. Highly recommend.
Cris J — Google review
The museum has a large number of beautiful religious artifacts and it is located on a feminine Dominican convent built in 1458. The ticket to the museum allows the visitor to get access to multiple historic sites in Aveiro.

The permanent exhibition of the museo is a must see. The location an it's history a very interesting. It takes you to another time and life style. Imagining living amongst the nuns and there strict daily routine. The rooms are breath taking, the Church of Jesus, the high choir and the paintings and other art pieces are all qorth seeing. Bring some time for this museo, as takes some time to explore.

A delightfull place to visit, combining both the old architecture of the monastery and the more recent museum area. There are stunning areas of worship where objects are displayed and a large collection of paintings reserved for the more modern area. Only a few euros to enter a great place to spend time. Photography is permitted (no flash).

Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Ponte dos Laços de Amizade, also known as Ponte dos Carcavelos, is one of Aveiro's oldest and most iconic bridges. Its yellow color and the city coat of arms featuring an eagle make it a picturesque spot along the canal in Bairro do Beira Mar. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll around Aveiro, often referred to as the Venice of Portugal, and take boat trips through the charming canals.
The canals of Aveiro are a captivating destination that beautifully combines tranquility and charm. Often referred to as the ‘Venice of Portugal,’ this area offers a serene escape with its picturesque waterways, colorful moliceiro boats, and quaint bridges. Walking along the canals, you’ll be greeted with stunning reflections of the surrounding architecture, adding to the magical atmosphere. The area is incredibly peaceful, making it an ideal place to relax, unwind, and enjoy the beauty of nature and the city’s history. Unlike the bustling crowds of larger tourist spots, Aveiro’s canals maintain a quiet charm that feels intimate and inviting. The resemblance to Venice is unmistakable, yet it carries its own unique character that sets it apart. Whether you choose to explore by taking a traditional boat ride, enjoying a coffee at one of the nearby cafes, or simply sitting by the water to soak in the ambiance, the canals offer something special for everyone. They are not just a highlight of Aveiro but a testament to the city’s cultural and natural beauty. A visit to Aveiro is incomplete without spending time here—it’s an experience that will leave lasting memories.

This bridge is the heart of Aveiro — from here, you can easily hop on a boat tour or start a peaceful walk through the historic center. We joined a boat ride right next to this spot, gliding under old bridges and learning about the town's history. After that, we strolled through the nearby square and admired the tiled buildings and quiet churches. It's calm, scenic, and charming — one of the most relaxing parts of our Portugal trip. Highly recommended.
Alfred N — Google review
Very charming place which reminds me a little bit of the Amsterdam canals. There is also a market every Sunday where locals sell 2nd hand items and antiques.
Christian B — Google review
It’s a beautiful ponte, surrounded by shopping malls, street markets (depending on the day and time), coffee shops and bars. The coffee shops along the river offer the best view, I totally recommend it. It is just a peaceful place to walk alongside of the river.
Ekin — Google review
Nice canal that runs through Aveiro , easy to walk along, there is a market that is near this bridge and it’s not to far to walk from the main train station. The main bus station is very close to the train station
Rob — Google review
This modest pedestrian bridge, built with wood or metal, blends seamlessly into the traditional canal setting of Aveiro. In 2014, two university students in Aveiro began tying ribbons to the bridge, turning it into a symbolic place to celebrate friendship and love. Today, the railings are covered with thousands of colorful ribbons, creating a vibrant and heartfelt display. Many visitors continue the tradition, leaving behind their own ribbon as a token of connection and memory.

Enjoy a wonder walk along the canal in Aveiro. This is a fun quiet place to hang around for couple of hours. I like the view in the afternoon, such a beautiful sunset. Then went to a coffee shop and tried some local sweets, which were extremely high in sugar but delicious.

Pastry shop
Confeitaria Peixinho is a charming pastry shop known for its local sweets and pastries, including the famous ovos moles. The shop, open since 1856, offers a cozy atmosphere with high ceilings, painted walls, and chandeliers. In addition to ovos moles, they also sell a variety of cakes and meringues featuring the sweet delicacy. Visitors can also sample the lesser-known local biscuits Raivas and Alemaes.
Excellent staff and products, highly recommended if you want to experience a traditional sweet from this region. Ovos-moles de Aveiro are a local pastry delicacy from Aveiro District, Portugal, traditionally made of egg yolks and sugar.

I visited Peixinho during my time in Aveiro and had a lovely experience. The interior was charming and quiet—especially on the third floor, where I enjoyed a peaceful break. The ovos moles were beautifully made, and I even received a free cookie, which was a sweet surprise. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and everything felt very authentic and relaxed. If you’re in Aveiro and want to try traditional sweets in a calm setting, I definitely recommend stopping by Peixinho!

I liked everything here! Sweet and smiling staff, a huge selection of ovos moles in all kind of shapes and an elegant location... Highly recommended!

Visited this bakery while passing through Aveiro after seeing all the reviews. They’re not overly sweet but each one is a variation of their original. Would’ve liked to have grabbed a coffee + pastry in the morning here with its very nice interior, but had to takeout. Tried all their pastries and I’d recommend the toasted egg yolks and nut version. Came back next day to grab a box of toasted egg yolks to take back home.
Dave — Google review
This pastry shop is magical, like stepping into a Wes Anderson film with an almost surreal atmosphere. Everything is beautifully presented, the place is clean and smells wonderful, and the pastries are all fantastic. They are all based on Ovos Moles de Aveiro, a local PDO specialty. I tried several and each one was a delight. My favorite was the chocolate-covered choux filled with Ovos Moles cream. Prices are fair, staff is friendly, and there are tables upstairs but no table service.

Traditional Portuguese dessert, good taste, not too expensive, recommended.

Mercado Negro is a trendy shopping destination located on the second floor of a historic townhouse along the main canal. It also serves as a cultural center, hosting live music and occasional film festivals. Visitors can explore boutique shops for unique clothing and accessories, specialty herbs and spices at Doce Pimenta, and local delicacies at Confeitaria Peixinho. My favorite room to perform in! This place is so dang cool, and the staff are the best! Definitely a great place for comedy and so many other shenanigans.
Kelly S — Google review
This place is affordable and open late. The only negative aspects is that there are many foreigners and tourists there. The benefit however is that you can still smoke inside. This is the only place I've found that still allows smoking inside legally. There is no food I think this is the reason you are allowed to smoke inside. The place is a bit old and smelly and you must walk along distance to pick up your drinks, but overall it's a good value for the money, if you don't mind sitting next to strange and dirty people from northern Europe.

It is a formidable space for a nice break, alone or with friends. Usually very calm during the day, and that allows one to best enjoy the building and its rooms. But it is also a good option for night time fun.

Really interesting venue - the bar and staff are pretty attentive. You feel you're at someone's house. It's a great place to chat and have a coffee or really good care cocktails. They have a limited but very good beer selection from local brewers, aside from the usual mainstream ones.

Restaurant
Restaurante O Bairro is located in Aveiro, Portugal, near the Fish Market. The restaurant embodies the local charm with lively characters like Saozinha, Ramiro, and Nando adding to its unique atmosphere. Creativity shines through in their use of local ingredients to craft traditional dishes with a modern flair. The open kitchen adds to the vibrant ambiance as they prepare enticing dishes such as their renowned risottos, including the Shrimp and Lime variety.
What can I say about this place that hasn't been said in all the other reviews, other than I wish I had more stars to give! This was the families highlight amongst another week of food highlights. The risottos are truly amazing, and you will kick yourself if you miss them. My only regret was only visiting the once, but we were a 40 minute train journey away. Perfect excuse to go back however.

This is a five out of five-star restaurant. The dishes were simply amazing and deliciously prepared. The pork with truffle was well-balanced, tasty, and juicy. The fish of the day was perfectly cooked and bursting with fresh flavor. The dessert was perfect as well. Every bite reflected the chef’s attention to detail and passion for fine cuisine. Highly recommended!

Absolutely lovely restaurant in Aveiro. Wonderful service. That would be enough to recommend, but I must add that they have the very best risottos we have ever enjoyed. They have at least 5 different risottos to match their varied dishes, and I suspect they are all just as delicious. Frankly, their prices are too low for the quality of the restaurant overall. You will need to make a reservation. I was able to do this via Facebook, I think, with an email confirmation. A don’t miss choice if visiting Aveiro.

I had lunch at O Bairro restaurant in Aveiro and had a great experience. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was flavorful and authentically Portuguese. The prices were reasonable, offering great value for the quality. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to experience genuine Portuguese cuisine.

Excellent food, we had "market fish of the day" as well as vegetarian plates, both prepared in fine-cuisine style. Supreme desserts!! Slight catch if you don't like: mushrooms present in all offered vegetarian choices.

This place serves extraordinary food specializing in risotto. The problem is that in Aveiro the tourists who dine here can be less appreciative. The place did a brisk lunch business and the waiters were rather overwhelmed. Some obnoxious patrons detracted from the experience. But it was worthwhile and delicious to be sure.
Andrea J — Google review
Great food, it's "modern" Portuguese fare, with some twists. Fresh ingredients, lots of taste. The kitchen cooks to order, which means you have to wait a bit for your food, nothing important since you want to come here, enjoy some time with friends and take it easy... When the food comes, it's worth it. In a very touristy area, so expect to wait a bit to get a table. You won't be disappointed.

Nestled in the heart of Aveiro, "Adega Típica O Telheiro" offers a delightful culinary experience steeped in traditional flavors. The restaurant's charming decor features typical brick walls adorned with azulejo panels and vintage utensils, creating an inviting atmosphere reminiscent of Spanish bars. Guests can savor regional specialties like Bife na cacarola or Filetes de polvo with a side of flavorful rice.

A Taste of Tradition: Generous Portions and Authentic Flavors in a Portuguese Setting In my quest to explore the rich culinary traditions of Portugal, I found myself at this charming restaurant, where the essence of traditional Portuguese cuisine takes center stage. The experience was a testament to the country’s reputation for generous portions, bold flavors, and heartfelt hospitality. My meal began with a classic Portuguese soup, a warm and comforting dish that exemplified simplicity done right. The ingredients were fresh, and the flavors were well-balanced, providing a perfect introduction to what lay ahead. For the main course, I chose the grilled cod—a dish synonymous with Portuguese gastronomy. The portion was impressively generous, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to hospitality. The cod was expertly prepared, with a beautifully charred exterior that locked in its natural flavors while remaining moist and flaky inside. Paired with traditional accompaniments, this dish truly showcased the depth of Portugal’s culinary heritage. The portions, as mentioned, were substantial, ensuring that no guest leaves unsatisfied. This, combined with the attention to flavor and preparation, elevates the restaurant to a must-visit status for those seeking an authentic Portuguese dining experience. Beyond the food, the atmosphere of the restaurant deserves recognition. The rustic décor and warm ambiance provide an inviting setting that enhances the meal, making it more than just a dining experience—it feels like a journey into Portugal’s cultural heart. In summary, this restaurant delivers on all fronts: generous servings, expertly prepared dishes, and an ambiance that reflects the soul of Portugal. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, it’s a place that guarantees satisfaction and a genuine taste of tradition.

We took the bacalhau in the bread, and it was the only dish we ordered, so this may not be a full reflection of the restaurant. We thought the dish was a bit dry and lacked sauce. We also had trouble understanding the purpose of the thick bread surrounding the bacalhau as it didn't bring much to it in terms of flavors. However, the bacalhau in itself was very tasty, and the house wine was good!

This is a truly delicious local's spot Don't listen to the low reviews. They're not typical a travel-oriented spot where they try to lure you in to eat at their restaurant. they're too busy serving customers!! They don't have time to hand hold and be overly friendly... We stood in line at the door. No one said anything to us at all, we waited patiently for 5 or 10 minutes till a table was available... They ushered us to a charming table and we were greeted by a most lovely Portuguese woman who didn't really speak English. She had an amazing smile and a warm heart and totally made you feel welcome. The food was absolutely amazing! The best we've had in Portugal yet and the staff was quite charming 🙂 they were all very gracious and nice. They just don't run to the door and greet you as you walk in. You have to be patient. It was so worth the meal. Truly amazing we had the pork and a delicious salad. Highly recommend this place

Cais do Pescado is a restaurant located in Aveiro, Portugal, offering a stunning view of the Ria de Aveiro and the colorful houses typical of the Beira Mar area. The restaurant's ambiance makes it perfect for a romantic dinner, where guests can enjoy delicious seafood and fish dishes prepared by Chef Carlos Salvador. The menu features fresh fish such as cod and eels, as well as regional seafood specialties.
A must. If you enjoy seafood and an authentic Portuguese culinary experience, please go to this place. First of all, there is no language barrier; the selection of the food is grand , portions are generous and the quality and service are beyond. The terrace is a great place to eat and enjoy a drink. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and service. There are no cocktails but by all means, please try to wines. I fell in love with their mini Venice view. The staff are sweet and catered to all of our needs. I will always be thankful to the person that has recommended us this place!

Without being overly hyperbolic this place had some of the best prawns I have ever eaten. The clams were tasty but the sauce was a tiny bit thin. Still an amazing taste. The secrets of pork were like the pork version of wagu beef. Greasy but in such an amazing way.

Great spot right in the center next to the Mercado do Peixe. We arrived at 8 p.m. and were lucky to get a table on the terrace before it filled up. The seafood cataplana was excellent, served with crispy fries, and the petiscos da casa were delicious. Local white and sparkling wines/espumoso recommended by the manager were perfect — he’s very friendly and clearly passionate about wines. Highly recommended!

Had the grilled sea bream with a side of vegetables and a bottle of sparkling water (53 euros). Kind of pricey for one person but the fish was perfect and the table side preparation was wonderful. Had to deduct a little from the service score because the service slowed to non-existent when the place got busy (likely due to the elaborate table side prep). The meal was a divine indulgence but I'm unlikely to do it again.

I came across this restaurant, which promised a focus on freshness and quality. My visit not only confirmed these expectations but also delivered an experience that combined a stunning location, impeccable service, and skillfully prepared dishes. However, a few areas could use some refinement. The menu showcases a wide selection of fresh fish and seafood, reflecting the restaurant’s commitment to premium ingredients. I started with the octopus, which was cooked to perfection—tender and subtly charred, enhancing its natural flavors without overpowering them. The spider crab was another highlight, with juicy, well-cooked meat that unmistakably showcased its freshness. These dishes displayed excellent technical execution and an attention to detail worth applauding. That said, the experience wasn’t entirely flawless. The house dessert, intended to round off the meal, turned out to be the weakest link. While its presentation was adequate, it lacked the bold, memorable flavors that could have elevated the meal to a higher level. For a restaurant that excels in other areas, ensuring desserts match the quality of the main dishes would be a significant improvement. On the other hand, the service was impeccable. The staff was attentive, professional, and warm, creating a welcoming atmosphere that enhanced the overall dining experience. Their dedication to providing excellent customer service was evident and deserves special mention. The restaurant’s location is undoubtedly one of its greatest assets. Nestled alongside a picturesque canal, the setting offers a serene and charming ambiance that perfectly complements the culinary experience. It’s the kind of place where the surroundings and the cuisine come together to create something truly memorable. In summary, this restaurant is a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts seeking fresh, high-quality dishes in an extraordinary setting. While there’s room for improvement in certain aspects, particularly the desserts, the overall experience is highly commendable. A delightful spot to savor and enjoy.

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming streets of Aveiro, O Batel is a delightful restaurant that offers an inviting atmosphere reminiscent of home. After a day filled with exploration, stepping into O Batel feels like finding a cozy refuge. The friendly staff and warm ambiance create an experience that’s both comforting and enjoyable. Diners can indulge in delectable seafood dishes such as octopus salad, sardines, and prawns served on garlic rice, all complemented by exquisite local wines like Alvarinho.
We had a delicious meal there. Ordered fish soup, bread and olives as starters, which „unfortunately“ made us almost full. The main dish was pretty large, too (at least for us), but very delicious😋.

Very nice place with traditional dishes... May be not the best for vegan people or for those on diet, but the price quality ratio is good, also because the portions are generous!

Night 1 - prawns to share followed by seafood rice. Superb! Night 2 - chef recommended John Dory (St Pierre) cooked with wine and clams to share. Never had either of these before but seeing as first night was so good thought why not! It was gorgeous! Beautiful local wine too! 🍷 If you want great value seafood cooked with love come and enjoy a local place with brilliant down to earth and very hardworking staff x

The food here is exceptionally tasty. The service is pleasant, welcoming and professional. Both my friend and I had dishes containing prawns... Superb. Cosy and unique experience in Aveiro. We arrived in Algarve and have headed to various destinations throughout our trip, probably the best meal we have had on our Portuguese travel experience so far....... Thank you very much.... What a fabulous find on a rainy day!

Fresh fish was amazing and so were the sides, unfortunately took about an hour from us getting seated for our food to start arriving

It's decent enough. Have had better portions with lower price in the same area in Aveiro. Food was a little bit salty - attempted to charge for bread that was not touched and served without consent. Sea food soup was delicious and the Sangria was good, although frozen fruit was used rather than fresh. 3.5/5

The lowest reviews for O Batel are accurate regarding the service here. The owner literally threw me out of the restaurant for ordering octopus salad and not a multi-course meal. I also ordered a beverage. I explained that I might order something additional afterwards. (I was not feeling well and wanted to test my appetite.) He became incensed, parading me through the restaurant as he shouted that I should go "order a snack at a bar... this is a restaurant, we serve food." How ridiculous and humiliating. I have never been treated like this -- or seen anyone else treated this way -- at any restaurant, ever. The couple who sat next to me were in shock. I hope the owner gets his anger under control.

The Revolta Hamburgueria Cervejaria Artesanal is a great place for a casual meal or drink in Aveiro. The staff are friendly and the food is good. It can get quite busy, so reservations may be advisable. The only downside is that the staff apparently aren't allowed a break to eat something during their shift, but this doesn't take away from the overall experience.
Fast and friendly service. The appetizers and the burgers were tasty and fresh. The balcony in a summer night was a pleasant option.

It’s not bad, but asking for you to pay for Ketchup, Mayo or any sauce that you want? Potatoes come with a small portion of sauce, asked for more and they asked me to pay, asked for ketchup and they told me that I would need to pay as well. Come on, really? Are you guys that cheap?
Pedro S — Google review
The interior is clean, the waiters were nice and the foods came quickly. But the burgers weren't very good, the patty was really tasted weird. The fries weren't home-made. For the prices it's not worth it. Far better option

Unfortunately, they don't ask how you want your meat cooked. Our burgers came very rare. But other than that, it's ok.

Good selection of burgers with and without the bun. Surprisingly, good without the bun . I do not eat burgers often. But, this restaurant will see me again.
Katrina L — Google review
Had a burger served raw. Wasn't asked whether I wanted it medium or rare. Still can't fathom why a burger patty needs to be served raw, with a steak yes. Found prices to be exorbitante for what they offer.

First time experience visiting the shopping mall is not bad. 1. The location is easy to find in the roundabout. 2. It is quite big and clean shopping mall, also almost has all what you need (clothes, daily needs, toys, food, etc). 3. They have several benches to sit while you are waiting. 4. They have toilet inside the mall. 5. Auchan shopping mall has been already open when I arrived around 9.30 in the morning. Some stores are still closed. They will open at 10 am. 6. They are doing some renovation in other part of the mall. 7. If you need free wifi, this place is recommended for you.

Located in the charming city of Aveiro, the University of Aveiro has a rich history dating back to the 13th century. The city developed around the Church of Sao Miguel and received privileges such as hosting the March fair. The university is a major player in Aveiro, offering top-notch education and ranking among Portugal's top six universities. It focuses on innovative teaching and collaborates with international institutions for scientific research projects. Additionally, Aveiro boasts high-quality local schools, both public and private.
The University of Aveiro is a remarkable institution that provides excellent academic resources, a vibrant international community, and a supportive environment for researchers and students alike. It has truly been a rewarding experience for me.

Nice university facilities. I was there as a participant in ICC 2025 (International Camp on Communication and Computers), which this year took place in Aveiro, Portugal. In my opinion, the level of accessibility was average. Still, the buildings are beautiful. The dormitory rooms were very basic, and unfortunately, there were ants inside. They also have shared restrooms, which may not feel particularly safe if you are a woman. You need a card to enter and exit the building, which at least provides security against external risks. The distances are huge, and in winter it probably gets very windy here. If you don’t want to walk a lot, make sure to get a bicycle, otherwise, good luck with all the exercise you’ll need to do!

Infante Dom Pedro City Park, also known as Parque da Cidade, is a serene 19th-century park in Aveiro. It offers a peaceful escape from the city with its picturesque ponds, art nouveau bandstand, and picnic tables. The park's romantic landscape features fountains and a river that create an ideal setting for relaxation and picnics. Visitors can stroll through beautiful gardens with various tree species and discover hidden gems like a cave and flower-covered staircase.
Dom Pedro Park is truly one of the most beautiful places you can visit in Aveiro and one of the most beautiful parks in Portugal. The weather is really great there. A green park with many types of trees with a beautiful lake in the middle. There is also an lively bar inside.. The best thing you can see is the wonderful types of birds there such as ducks, geese and others. The place is really great and inspires relaxation and peace. ..I advise everyone to visit the site when they come to Aveiro.

Beautiful park with huge potential — but terribly neglected. Parque Infante Dom Pedro in Aveiro is a truly beautiful and charming space. It has everything you could want in an urban park: a peaceful lake with ducks, lovely old buildings, shaded areas, picnic spots, a playground, sports facilities, and even public bathrooms. It could easily be one of the best parks in Portugal — but there’s a huge "but." The park is extremely neglected. Many areas are damaged, dirty, and poorly maintained. Trash is often visible, structures are in bad shape, and it’s clear that regular cleaning and upkeep are lacking. It’s honestly very sad and disappointing to see such a wonderful space falling apart like this. I really don’t understand why the Câmara Municipal doesn’t take better care of this park. It has incredible potential to be a true gem for locals and tourists alike, but it desperately needs attention and investment.

Its a very lovely park, maybe even a hidden pearl of Aveiro that needs just a little bit of love and care. There is a pond, in which there are a lot of ducks. Bamboo forest reslly surprised us 😁 The park is very nice to ride a bike, jog, walk around and relax, enjoy the views . It really has a potential.

Its a beautifully cute park situated not far way frOm the city center. It has a good location to take some photos as souvenir. There is a small water pool too. Its really great to spend sOme quiet moments. The playground for children is also available, plus washrooms. And if you are visiting it in a warm day, there is a small cafe to provide you drinks. It was nice to visit this park while our visit in Aveiro.
Hanna — Google review
Originally developed in 1861 under the initiative of city council president Firmino Maia, the site began as a transformation of the former Campo de Santo António into a public promenade. The park took on its current layout and structures between 1925 and 1927, following a plan by Jacinto de Matos. Notable features include the white and blue azulejo tile panels in staircases, the Art Nouveau-style bandstand (Coreto), and the Mae de Água water tower. With expansive lawns and mature trees, the park offers a serene, almost arboretum-like setting. A pedestrian overpass, the Passarela, connects it conveniently to the nearby Parque da Baixa de Santo António, making it ideal for leisurely strolls.
Seokjin H — Google review

We enjoyed walking around this park so much! The serenity of the place is unbelievable! It really calms you just by appreciating it’s beauty. A great way to escape the busyness of Aveiro’s city center. The place is very pretty as well to take photos.

One of the most charming and beautiful parks in Portugal, for damn sure. I absolutely fell in love with the bohemian vibe that it has to offer. It’s an amazing place for bird-watching lovers. There’s a variety of life forms living here that is kind of rare these days. It’s also great for small picnics but please, there are trash bins around in every corner of the park, don’t leave any traces of your personal trash there. Be attentive! It’s a great place to just chill out and read a book as well. Enjoy it!

Located in the unique Casa Major Pessoa, Museu de Arte Nova is a tribute to the Art Nouveau movement. The museum not only showcases the exquisite Art Nouveau architecture and decorative arts but also offers an immersive experience into this artistic style through its exhibits. One of its notable exhibitions is 'Argila que nos une.'
Such a beautiful museum filled with colors and tile work. I loved walking around the exhibits, I will say they have an elevator but it’s very small and you have to hold down the button until you reach the floor you want or it will stop midway lol but despite that, it was well worth the visit.

Originally built between 1907 and 1909 as the Casa Major Pessoa, this building was acquired and renovated by the Municipality of Aveiro in 2008, and officially opened as a museum in 2012. The architectural design was created by Francisco Augusto da Silva Rocha. Today, the museum serves as the interpretive center for Art Nouveau in Aveiro, with the building itself functioning as a central exhibit due to its remarkable architectural value. ※ Included in Aveiro Museum Pass.

If I could rate a ZERO I certainly would! Visiting Porto in Portugal & took a 1/2 day bus tour to Aveiro & Costa Nova. Before leaving Aveiro & an hour ride back to Porto, our tour guide informed us the public restroom was unavailable. Museu Arte Nova was just down the street. The tour guide accompanied my sister & I there to ask if we could use the restroom given the circumstance. They refused though the tour guide sternly reminded them by law it’s required. After using their facility both of us politely said “Obrigada” (thank you) to the ticket person who FROWNED at both of us & looked downward. As a result, I’m giving this review to inform them they should be more tolerant of potential customers who could potentially provide 5 star ratings for their kindness & generosity. Not good Museu Arte Nova!😟

The Sweet Workshop at the visitor center Oficina do Doce is a unique and educational experience that showcases the history and technique of making Ovos Moles de Aviero, a sweet custard dessert that originated in Portugal. The workshop includes a short video presentation about ovo moles followed by hands-on activity where participants get to fill the sweet casings and make their own desserts. It is an hour well spent for only 2.75 euros per person.

An absolute must do in Aveiro! Luis explained the fascinating history behind ovos moles and talked us through making our own. We also learned about the history of the city of Aveiro. Note that it is more a lesson than a creative workshop but nonetheless it was fun. Absolutely worth the price!

This wasn't worth calling it a workshop. We were the only ones there with 4 adults and 4 children. Most of the time it was listening to the guy who worked there talk about the history of ovos moles and watching a movie. Everything was already prepared, the only thing we did was put a little bit of cream in the mold. We couldn't even cut them out. Our son was very disappointed and when we said something about that, there was no response. Biggest tourist trap ever, not worth visiting at all.

Incredible cuisine ! So very friendly and nearly no waiting in serving the food. We had two soups (soup do mare just dreamy) one octopus vinegraitte - really really nice - and two divine main courses of grilled squid and cod-fish with potatoes and vegetables (for me the best) and 3 glasses of white house wine. FAMA by Luís Lavrador is a culinary gem nestled in Aveiro, where the passion for football and fine dining intertwine beautifully. This restaurant, crafted by a father-son duo, showcases an exquisite take on traditional Portuguese cuisine. With dishes like Naco de bacalhau and Corvina with arroz de lingueirão, each plate tells a story of seasonal ingredients and rich flavors. The ambiance reflects this dedication to quality, adorned with signed jerseys that celebrate the connection to football.
Fantasticrestaurant! Delicious food: I loved the ceviche and the leitao croquetas for starters. Arroz de mariscos and picanha for main and a great petit gateau for dessert. The service is friendly and professional. I also liked how it is well decorated (even though i am not a fan of plastic plants) and with modern interior Prices are ok. Pricey compared to Portuguese standards but that's obvious to be expected considering the quality and the place

Returning to this restaurant for the second time, our expectations were once again exceeded. After over ten years of honest exploration in Portugal, I can confidently say that this restaurant stands out as one of the best I’ve ever experienced. The service was impeccable – helpful, friendly, and authentic. Our request was honored, and we were seated with a view into the kitchen, which added an exciting dimension to our dining experience. The food was flawless, with the daily fish being particularly delicious, along with all the appetizers we sampled. The wine recommendation was spot-on, perfectly aligning with my tastes as described to the waiter, who demonstrated not only expertise in food but also in wine – a definite plus. The ambiance was charming, with the entire team, aside from the kitchen, exuding warmth. The restaurant’s decor was beautifully curated, adding to the overall experience. I’m already looking forward to my next visit. This restaurant is my top recommendation for anyone visiting Portugal – don’t miss out on it.

I highly recommend this restaurant. Great food. Had the set menu - everything was great. The scallop with green apple caviar and beurre blanc sauce was incredible. Server was friendly and gave good explanations of the dishes. It was a bit away from the historic center of Aveiro but worth the walk or short Uber.
Jacob C — Google review
I went there with a friend to celebrate a professional achievement, and we chose this restaurant based on the reviews we found online. We went there with high expectations but the whole experience was really disappointing!! Starting with charging the Couvert (bread, butter and pâté) per person, I really do not understand the logic here! What if a group of ten people goes there and only half of them ate the couvert, those who did not eat would still pay 2€ each for something that they didn’t even try?! As starters, we ordered the prawns (6 prawns) and tuna ceviche (both not included in the menu here). They both tasted nice but the ceviche was served as two mini tacos with literally un-chewable mini tortilla. We also got the vegetable soup that was average. For main dishes we ordered “Braised octopus tentacle” and the “Low temperature oxtail”. The oxtail was acceptable, a small cuboid with purée and some vegetables. However, the octopus (served with sweet potato puree and a small pot of octopus pearl barley) was dry and flavorless with very very hard skin that I needed to spit out some bites for not being able to chew them, it definitely does not represent the world-famous Portuguese octopus. After not being asked our opinion about the main dishes, our choice for dessert was the almond cake. While the cake itself (sponge cake with the “Aveirense” egg cream “ovos moles” with some almond flakes on top) was covered with an overwhelming amount of powder sugar, it was served with nice cinnamon ice-cream. At the end, all we wanted was finishing the meal with a nice cup of coffee, so I ordered an espresso and my friend ordered an “abatanado” (an espresso with some more water) and a “GLASS” of water with coffee. We got coffee from a commercial brand that was almost double the price of specialty coffee at a coffee roaster café, and instead of the glass of water I asked for, I got a 2.5€ 30cl bottle of water. Maybe having high expectations is the reason behind this negative review but I genuinely find everything we ordered very overpriced for what it is.

Very cozy and atmospheric place! Food, serving dishes, restaurant design at the highest level! We loved it, we recommend it 👌 we will definitely come back when we come to Aveiro!
Veronika N — Google review
The portion sizes were pretty huge! We honestly could have shared one of the dishes + 2 soups and therefore been able to eat dessert. However, our waiter wasn’t very informative in that manner. Just wanting to push sales for the tasting menu (we both felt). And thus we were too full to eat dessert :( The food was so good we ordered home delivery again the next day (the polvo). I feel like a dining experience should be the whole package. And for me the service could have been better in terms of actually recommending and advising instead of trying to sell. The fish soup is amazing here!

Wow. Do yourself a favour and try the turbot with seafood ravioli in a duck broth. I could have been in a Michelin star restaurant. Absolute perfection and will surely be back.

Lovely delicious food. The risotto had loads of mushrooms and the meat was super tender. The deserts are superb and it has a good wine selection. The staff was spot on. Will be back for sure.

Restaurant
Granturino - Steak House is a must-visit restaurant in Aveiro, offering a fabulous dining experience. The attentive and hardworking staff, particularly waitress Victoria, ensure top-notch service. The menu features delicious options like perfectly cooked steaks and delectable desserts such as chocolate mousse and lime mousse. While the location is decent and the decor stunning, accessibility may be an issue as the restaurant is situated on the 2nd floor without an elevator.
Food and service was extremely amazing! Joao was truly amazing and extremely helpful and gave great history and knowledge of all foods. The steaks were worth every penny. The deserts were fantastic.

Really enjoyed the experience here. We ordered the usual couvert (bread, butter, and olives). Then we ordered the Chateaubriand with french fries and salad. Additionally, we ordered some vegetables sautéed. The chocolate mouse and cheesecake were fantastic! The food was great! What I did not like was the low wine options and overprices (some were about +3 times over the usual).
Luís C — Google review
This was 100 euro dry aged steak , 80% of it was fat and the rest was edible . Complete scam and do not recommend . Sent the steak back because when it came out the first time it was COLD on the inside . Dead giveaway that it was frozen and not dry aged . Really upset that this was the only bad experience i’ve had in Portugal but won’t ever come back and will tell anyone i talk to that this place is a scam .

My wife and I had the best steak and dining experience of our lives at this place! The food was incredible, the wine was amazing, the atmosphere was cool, and the staff were incredibly kind and knowledgeable. If I ever get to go back to Portugal this is a must stop for me!!!

Amazing place for meat lovers, very nice selection of cuts. Knowledgeable staff, very friendly and helpful. Always a warm welcome in cozy atmosphere.

We came here thinking it might be just okay. It it was so much better than that! Our waitress Victoria was perfect!! Attentive and respectful and very hard working. We feel she deserves a mention as she was quietly going about her work with a great attitude and not distracted by the young group of men that were having fun on their national holiday. The food was surprisingly tasty and the steak was cooked perfectly. The chocolate mousse was delicious but the lime mousse was another level! We will come straight back next time we are here . Thanks for a great evening.

We booked a table for 4 for New Year’s Eve. The reservation was made by phone for 19.30 but we got a call at 19.15 saying we had a table for 19 and confirming our place since we would have to leave by 8h45 due to the next sitting round. When we arrived we were immediately told there were several entries not available anymore. We choose our main dish. When asking for the drink, it was also not available (it was the only sangria of the menu and they said “they did not have maracujá”). One of us asked for a specific beer that was on the menu, it was not available anymore as well. We ended choosing something else. The service was good, depending on the people who were serving us. At some moments, we felt our presence was not welcomed there and there was a pressure to rush us to finish it all. At 9h10, we were still there and the restaurante was not full or with people waiting. The food was great, overall. The meat was amazing, the French fries were truly good and the drinks as well. However, for a New Years Eve reservation it disapponted me that so many options were lacking from the menu and the service was not fully amazing as it could have been. Although the food was good, the experience for finishing the year was disappointing.

The atmosphere is unique and the food is fantastic!! They accommodate all the dietary requirements, including for pregnant women 🤩 We will definitely be Back!!

We visited around midday and the food was excellent overall – only one of the rolls in the combo wasn’t to our taste. However, I wanted to point out something that left a negative impression: we noticed that the hostess at the reception was offering a complimentary glass of wine to most guests as a welcome gesture. My husband and I are relaxed people and currently on vacation, so we were quite surprised that we were not offered the same, especially when it seemed that everyone else around us was. I don’t know if it was because of how we were dressed or just a biased attitude, but it came across as quite classist. We’ve dined at some of the best sushi restaurants and for us, this kind of gesture is not a luxury – it’s about feeling welcomed and respected as a guest. We don’t believe we should have to look a certain way to be treated equally. Experiences like this leave a bad taste, no matter how good the food is
Alejandra B — Google review
Services and atmosphere were top notch. The digital menu was hard to use, too much switching back and forth and trying to remember what we wanted to order. They should just try to digitize the ordering process too to make the experience smoother. Sushi was good but nothing special.

One of our favorite in Porto. The chef never disappoints. 3 of us had miso soup, the fourth enjoyed the crepes. We order ceviche, udon pasta( thick pasta)for one, chef’s choice for 3 of us. We had Sangria, Coke Zero and water. All were delicious and we enjoyed it to the last piece. Our kids from Canada, admired the beauty of the building also.

You pay here (quite a lot) for the design, service and Instagram posts. The food is ok, not more. It is served with all sorts of effects like smoke and big decorative plates which are very instagrami. Because of these so many decorations and effects the sushi is overshadowed. Beautiful design of the place, very good service though. If you dont make a reservation you get a free glass of sparkling wine for the wait, so perhaps I would recommend not to reserve a table if you want this perk.

Fábrica Centro Ciência Viva de Aveiro is a fantastic place for both kids and adults who love science! The interactive exhibits and hands-on activities make learning fun and engaging. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to explain and assist. The highlight for the kids was the robotics area, where they got to build small cars that could drive on their own—an absolute favorite! There are also various workshops and experiments, making it a great educational experience. The space is well-organized, though it could be a bit bigger. A great option for a family visit, especially on a rainy day in Aveiro!

Very interesting museum, especially for kids. Science learning very interactive. And great workshops. We tried a robotics one and our 9 year old son enjoyed a lot. The building is an old factory which is also very interesting. Staff are very friendly

I first called the center to inform them that I was coming in an international program membership. The woman didn't seem to know that they participated. Consequently, I arrived to show all documentation as required and were had to wait another 20 minutes while the information was being photocopied and verified. But once in, it was wonderful that they provided a brief English orientation and tour. We were able to join two workshops of which both presenters spoke English ...and portuguese. The kids didn't want to go.

Aveiro City Museum is located in a former convent that dates back to the 15th century and has undergone several expansions and improvements. The museum offers a visit circuit with two parts: the monumental route and the permanent exhibition, showcasing fine art, sacred objects, and temporary exhibitions. It is situated near the city center and features beautiful tiles. The building itself is an attraction worth visiting, having been fully refurbished inside.

Housed in a building dating back to 1915, this museum is a participatory space dedicated to preserving and sharing the urban memory of Aveiro. Exhibitions are curated around the experiences and records of local residents, creating a deeply personal and community-focused narrative. Ponte dos Carcavelos is a significant bridge in Aveiro, known for its historical importance and romantic charm. It was constructed over a previous bridge that collapsed and served as a crucial crossing for workers heading to the salt fields. Today, it has become a popular spot for couples to enjoy breathtaking sunset views. Dating back to 1953, this bridge holds the distinction of being one of the oldest and most aesthetically pleasing bridges in Aveiro.

Quaint , lovely place to stroll and soak in the atmosphere. On the opposite side is the salt farm by the road. Especially with the cool wind blowing, many take walks with their dogs and jogging. Not far, is the fish market and several cafes and restaurants by the river. Relaxing to begin or end the day! ❤️❤️🇵🇹

Originally built in wood, the bridge collapsed in 1932 and was rebuilt in 1943 with a stone arch structure. Its name is derived from a local toponym associated with the nearby salt pans. Affectionately known as the Lovers' Bridge, it is a popular spot for watching sunsets and romantic strolls.

Palhuça is a charming local restaurant in Portugal, offering good and reasonably priced food with a typical Portuguese tavern atmosphere. The waiters may not speak English, but the grilled sardines come highly recommended. The portion size is generous and satisfying. Despite the lively atmosphere filled with locals, there was some surprise at finding an automatic 20% tip added to the bill without prior notice, which affected the overall experience.
Amazing, authentic Portuguese food. If you come from abroad and are looking for an authentic Portuguese food experience, these are the places you should visit. Look for "tascas", and enjoy the ride. Your stomach and your wallet will thank you (;

Palhuca in Aveiro offers great food and a lively atmosphere with plenty of locals. However, we were surprised by a 20% tip added without notice, written only in Portuguese. It felt a bit unfair, as locals might not face the same charge. Also, they were unexpectedly closed yesterday despite Google Maps showing them as open. Great meal, but they need better transparency and communication.
Daria M — Google review
A really great place to enjoy local food like Aveiro's eel specialties, for a reasonable price.
Peter E — Google review
Palhuca Restaurant in Aveiro offers a delightful culinary experience with a menu that showcases the rich flavors of the region. The food was exceptional, with each dish beautifully prepared and full of authentic Portuguese taste. The restaurant was bustling with locals, which added a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, hinting at its popularity among those who know good food in the area. However, our experience was marred by an unexpected issue with the bill. We were surprised to find a 20% tip automatically added to our bill, written only in Portuguese. This charge was not communicated to us beforehand, and it left us feeling somewhat taken advantage of. It gave the impression that this practice might not be applied to locals, raising questions about fairness and transparency. While we enjoyed the meal, this incident dampened our overall experience, and we left feeling a bit used. We hope the restaurant can address this issue to ensure a more transparent and inclusive experience for all patrons. We would left 20% tip easily for the climate and great food…

Authentic Portuguese restaurant visited by locals and people who know. Tasty seafood dishes, served by friendly hosts. We had a monk fish stew dish that could feed four people
Yury O — Google review
It is a typical portuguese tavern with local food. I was interested in having the grilled sardines as I read the fish is fresh and good. Was not disappointed at all. The photo I attach is for half a portion of the grilled sardines which comes with salad and veggies. As a woman- I eat a lot and this was plenty for me to be full, but not stuffed to the brim. The plate looks smaller on the photo - it is one of those big plates so do not be fooled by my photo. I had melon for dessert which was also good- came from the fridge so was refreshing in this heat. I do recommend it- it is a family run business. The man seems a bit grumpy but do not mind him- I reckon it has not been easy for them in this pandmic. Definately if you go to Aveiro- pay them a visit. Prices are also good.

Fun place to go in Aveiro. Yes - it is authentic and family owned. Fairly priced! Yep, service can seem unfriendly, but not THAT of a big deal either. The young man was actually very attentive. I have to be honest tho, the sardines could be too salty for most people, but the salad kinda lacked taste. Portions are great too! However it was a fun experience and I recommend going for dinner or lunch. Thanks!

Customers recommend trying the Spaghetti Chicken Curry, which is described as a little spicy but very tasty. The place also serves pastas and salads besides their delicious burgers. The wait staff are attentive and welcoming, making for an enjoyable dining experience.
Porta 35 is a hidden gem that has quietly been serving delicious homemade burgers and pasta for over 30 years. Its secretive charm only adds to the appeal, making it feel like a well-kept insider’s spot for those who know where to find it. The menu is small, but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in flavor. Every dish is crafted with care, giving you that homemade, authentic touch that so many larger restaurants often miss. The burgers are juicy, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor. Whether you prefer a classic cheeseburger or something a bit more adventurous, Porta 35 never disappoints. The pasta dishes are equally impressive, with rich, savory sauces and fresh ingredients that elevate every bite. Despite its simplicity, the food here is consistently excellent. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed meal with friends or a quiet evening out. We had dinner on a Friday and it wasn't crowded. We waited 15-20 minutes only. The place has a cosy atmosphere, and the waiters are very friendly. It is a good restaurant to eat burgers but you can also have pastas and salads. The burgers were very tastful, but, personally, I found them a little bit salty and too well-done. Nevertheless, we will come back again!

Cozy Resto-Bar with limited but good selection of Tapas and some salads. Their main focus is on the burgers which looked good but we unfortunately did not try. The wings are excellent and so good we ordered it twice. The steak salad was also excellent with tender strips of "roast beef" which were actually sirloin. Tasty chicken strips. Very friendly, welcoming and very attentive service.

Honestly disappointed! Cold Burger, salty sauce, bad bread (not fresh) and low amount of chips. The service was slow and by stages... Honestly, doesn't justify the cost. If you can just skip this experience. If not, good luck! P.S: even if you ask for a medium rare burger, they always come dry as a shoe!
Rui S — Google review
Just had the worst vegan “burger”ever. Not really a burger as there was no patty - just two inedible, undercooked slices of aubergine, a slice of tomato, a piece of lettuce and a dollop of hummus on a dry bun. No “purple onion and grilled apple chutney” as advertised. €7.20. More expensive than most of the meat burgers on the menu. Rip-off. Avoid at all costs.

Nestled in the heart of Aveiro, Armazém da Alfândega is a delightful culinary gem that beautifully marries traditional flavors with contemporary flair. Opened just a year ago on Largo do Rossio, this restaurant boasts decor inspired by local heritage while maintaining a modern touch. The menu highlights the bounty of the sea, featuring creative dishes crafted from fresh and often locally sourced ingredients.
Stumbled across this place after we got turned away from Restaurante O Bairro. We were so glad we did. Really great meal. Tasty and thoughtful dishes, prepared with care. Service was lovely.

Good restaurant choice! If you're in Aveiro and need a place to eat this is a good place to try! It's a new concept with a very well decorated space, good service (it can improve) and the food is very good. Quality/price just right!

Wonderful, slightly hipster, place that has opened up in January 2017. Serves many Portuguese classics (such as Pica-Pau) in a modern and delicious way plus interesting international dishes (e.g. Burger) - always with a surprise touch. Definitely a great new spot to visit. You better reserve your table in advance, because the restaurant is only small and cozy. The super friendly staff will be glad to help, I am sure!

This is a very nice lunch place! Young chef makes a fusion of Japanese and Portuguese food! Very delicious! We go every year to Japan and the Miso soup here was easily as good as there! Everything is made with love and you can taste it! Nice Deco!

One of the best surprises of our 2 week trip through Portugal. The food was so good, amazing to get many small dishes (petiscos) all with different flavors. And the presentation of the food is so beautiful, everything is served in a different way and many dishes are presented on beautiful Portuguese ceramic tableware. The staff was so friendly and they took good care of us. The atmosphere was very laid back and so cosy. Highly recommend 👌🏼

I came here by accident because everything else was closed after Christmas Day. I had the Bitoque and it was easily one of the best meals i have eaten in Portugal. Portuguese cuisine is my absolute favourite and these guys took it to a level of perfection. Thank you for the beautiful meal I will be back again!

Most creative food we have had yet in Portugal. Everything, from the starters to the fish of the day, main courses and desserts was a unique approach to fresh and many times local ingredients. Of special note, were the beetroot gravlax, fish of the day and the basil panna cotta. Wine pairing was well chosen and service was friendly and well informed. We were very grateful for our server's nearly flawless English and willingness to indulge our painfully lacking Portuguese. I would come back to this town just to go to this restaurant on a future trip to Portugal.

Alicarius is a brewery and seafood restaurant in Aveiro, Portugal. It's popular for gatherings of friends which extend into the night and its specialty are the Francesinhas. The atmosphere is relaxed, convivial and suitable for groups of all sizes. The food is great with good prices, and the service is friendly in English.
I've been going to Alicarius in Aveiro for years, and it never disappoints! I visited again this week with a couple of friends, and the experience was just as great as always. The food is consistently fresh, with generous portions that leave you satisfied. The service is attentive and friendly, and the inside of the restaurant has a warm, cozy vibe with lovely, on-theme decor. Their "Francesinha"—hands down the best in town! If you're ever in Aveiro and craving one, this is the place to go

This traditional francesinha was delicious, and huge!! I would say enough for 2 people, and it comes with the most amazing, crispy fries. The service was attentive, friendly and fast. I did not hear anyone speaking English here, so I think it is a locals’ place, off the beaten path, and authentic. Highly recommended!

The waiters didn’t know that much English. Tho they were good at their job! The food was good tho (as far as we know). They also charged the tap water.

Food was cold on one side and warm on the other. Meat had quality (beef) but the food was not up to standard. The bread was very regular and it felt you could do it easily at home. Water 2€ that the refill in what it looks like IKEA bottle.

Best francesinha ever. I had the especial with an extra type of sausage. It was absolutely delicious. And the staff is very friendly. If you are in Aveiro and want a francesinha, go here.

Food/drinks: Vegetarian francesinha was good. The sausage and burger were tasty. The sauce was not the best I’ve tasted in regards to vegetarian francesinhas. However my friends that had the normal one loved their sauce. The water was filtered from the tap (which they told us beforehand) - but the taste was not nice, in contrary to other tap waters I’ve drank in other places. And they didn’t have bottled water. 1L was 2€. My friend asked for a cider that cost 4,6€ so be attentive of the drinks you order Service: All the staff was very kind and attentive Atmosphere: was a busy day so it’s difficult to make a proper evaluation

Salpoente is a well-managed restaurant located in Aveiro, offering a romantic atmosphere with views of the Ria de Aveiro. The chef, Duarte Eira, has prepared a special menu for Valentine's Day featuring ingredients like strawberries and chocolate to inspire romance. In addition to its excellent cuisine, Salpoente also serves as a venue for live concerts on Friday and Saturday nights. The restaurant is housed in two former salt warehouses, adding to its elegant and tranquil ambiance.
Fantastic dinner in a stunningly renovated warehouse. We were greeted with a glass of cava. The staff and sommelier were very attentive and expertly timed each course. The smoked eel and beetroot was phenomenal and the veal was done to perfection. Dessert was out of this world. I would highly recommend! 😊

We recently visited with the gate one tour. The restaurant had nice decor and the staff were friendly. I wasn’t very impressed with the food though. We had the vegetarian entry which was beet rice. Our friends had a pescatarian option which was a seafood rice and our travel companions had beef. No one finished their meals. I suspect the quality may be better when they are not cooking for a large group though.

The food was exceptional. There were a couple of niggles I had in general but perhaps I'm just old fashioned. Firstly bread for the cover should always be served warm. Never serve beer in glasses with a brand name as this is for coffee shops and and cheap snack houses and finally I still believe that red and white wines should be served in different glasses. Apart from those observations my wife and I had a lovely evening savouring the 6 course tasting menu. It was a real treat except for the aforementioned observations. Thank you.

Nice restaurant but a bit overpriced the full experience. Totally for tourists. The service is really not good for being the “best restaurant in town”. The food was good, and that’s it. 50 euros per person without alcohol drinks, and sharing starters.

Good food, terrible service — left a bad taste overall No doubt the food is good and portions are fair, but the service was so awful it ruined the experience. My family of five went for an 8pm Sunday dinner. The restaurant was very quiet — about seven tables in use, mostly couples — and at least five servers were working. Three of us arrived first and were seated with three menus. When the remaining two arrived less than 10 minutes later, we asked for two more menus and were told there was only one available — in a mostly empty restaurant. Couvert: Server 1 offered the €3.50 couvert (a small assortment of bread with regular butter, black garlic butter, and hummus). Bread was cold and then never offered again, yet the condiments sat on the table through starters and mains before finally being cleared — was the hummus meant for my fish? Ordering: Server 2 appeared without introducing himself and abruptly asked if we were ready to order. His tone, pace, and body language were cold and unfriendly. We asked about the set menu, got the info we needed, and requested a few more moments. When we went to order wine, he pointed at a QR code and walked away. Server 3 then appeared to ask what wine we wanted. Three of us ordered a bottle, and the other two asked for cocktails. Drinks: The wine arrived and was poured, but after 10 minutes we had to flag down yet another server (Server 4 — the only friendly one) to ask about the cocktails. They arrived much later and then the food followed, which was delicious and well-portioned. After the initial wine pour, water was topped up by two different servers, and plates were cleared, but our wine glasses sat empty for 15 minutes with no refill. I eventually stood up and poured it myself. Server 3 topped it up only once more the entire night. Dessert & Coffee: Once mains were cleared, we were offered dessert. One dessert and three coffees were ordered. We were asked if we wanted the coffee with the dessert, and we said yes. Dessert came out and was finished before the coffee arrived — about a 15-minute gap. Why ask if you can’t serve them together? Having worked in high-end restaurants for 15+ years, I was honestly done at this point and just wanted to leave. Bill: I went to the counter to request the bill. I had booked via The Fork and thought a discount was applied — it wasn’t. When I asked, two servers tried to sort it out and Server 3 rather rudely pointed out it was my mistake. Fine — I had no issue paying the €300 bill. Server 3 insisted I return to the table to pay there and walked back with me. None of the staff had introduced themselves all night, and not once did anyone attempt to upsell, check in, or even ask for a tip — which would have been a firm zero. Final thoughts: Shocking service from start to finish. Cold attitudes, zero hospitality, no basic table awareness, and absolutely no professionalism. These people should not be in customer-facing roles. This is also apprently a Michelan Star restaurant? - Ha! Food alone isn’t enough — I do not recommend this place to anyone who values service.

Costa Nova, a region in Portugal, is famous for its picturesque colorful houses called Palheiros. These buildings have two lines of color on their facades, with one always being white and the other varying between green, blue, yellow or red. Costa Nova is also known for its delicious fresh fish and tripas de Aveiro, similar to crepes with various fillings.
Costa Nova is a beautiful and charming beach destination near Aveiro, Portugal. Known for its colorful striped houses and pristine beaches, it offers a unique and picturesque setting perfect for a day trip or a relaxing holiday. The area is famous for its seafood, with plenty of local restaurants serving fresh catches from the Aveiro Lagoon. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the beach, explore the natural beauty of the nearby São Jacinto Dunes, or simply relax with a coffee at one of the beachside cafes. Costa Nova is definitely a must-visit for anyone exploring the Silver Coast of Portugal 🇵🇹 .

Praça do Peixe de Aveiro, also known as Mercado do Peixe, is a vibrant Portuguese fish market dating back to the 18th century. Rebuilt in the early 20th century, it offers a unique experience of buying and eating locally caught fresh fish. The market also features a restaurant on the second floor with views of the canals.

Marinha da Noeirinha, an old saltern in Beira Mar de Aveiro, has been restored and offers various experiences. Visitors can join guided tours to learn about the salt-making process, take a dip in the rustic salt-water pool, or indulge in the therapeutic properties of its salt spa. The wooden building shaped like a salt pyramid houses a museum shop with centuries of history related to handmade salt production.
A good private beach, you can buy traditional-style salts made in Aveiro's own salt mines, and something I found very good was that they have different types of salt ready to use as condiment in the kitchen! I recommend it!

I went to the lagoon to swim in the afternoon with my husband. When we arrived, the first thing we did was paying the fee, €10. The receptionist was kind and gave us a bracelet and said with these exact words: you don't have to put it on, but if anyone asks, just show it. Ok, I put it in my pocket and didn't even think it was that important, after all, there were only about 10 people there and no explicit saying that it’s obligatory to use. We spent about 2 hours sunbathing, I noticed some employee looking at us weird and when we were about to leave, an employee yelled at me, extremely rude. Apparently, instead of coming politely to ask: “hey guys, can I see your bracelet” it’s better to make a scene for nothing. If I knew I would put this bracelet in my forehead with flowers to avoid this. Very uncomfortable and unprofessional, not to mention that 10€ is too much for what they were offering. The salty lagoon itself is nice, it was a pleasant swim for October (even though it’s already cold water). No bar working, no toilet paper and unfortunately the highway near makes the ambient very noisy.

The restaurant is nice and well located in a nice square. Nice food, we tried the cheese oven, rice with prawns and it was all nice. Service is nice and friendly. Also the square's dog Caramelo deserves a positive commentary as he is a plesant company during your meal without being invasive or annoying. What I really disapprove and that's the reason why of 3 stars instead of 4 is the fact that they only serve water in small bottles. This is an approach that I noticed also by some other restaurants which I really disapprove as it is a cheap way to make money. We had two little kids who only drink water and we had no other way than ordering a small bottle and pay for water 4€ per liter that is two times the price of gasoline. Serving only small bottles of water so that they can be charged more is really an unfair way to squeeze the wallet of the clients . Big thumb up 👍 to all the restaurants that decide to monetize on food and other drinks but not water!

While visiting Aveiro, we decided to have lunch at O Arco da Velha, and it was well worth it. The staff were nice, and greeted and seated us promptly. Also, in no time at all we had our drink orders and food starter as well. The food was excellent: I had the Octopus with potatoes and onions; my wife had a chicken kabob with fries, rice and salad, and our friend had some type of beef steak with a mustard sauce and fries. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. We highly recommend this restaurant, and if given the chance would eat here again.

It took incredibly long for the food to arrive. When it did, the fries were undercooked, and the meals in itself, too easy and plain. They seemed understaffed and staff just ran back and forth without paying attention. I didn't have a fork when the food was served, but it took another 5 minutes to be solved. Toilets were not clean either. Skip this place

A very typical Portuguese restaurant, just a 5–7 minute walk from the center. People often don’t go there because it’s not on a tourist route, but it’s absolutely worth it. Fresh fish, very kind servers, it was really hot outside and the waiter even lent me his fan 🪭 so I could enjoy my meal more comfortably. That was incredibly kind. The portions are very generous, the food is incredibly good, and the value for money is excellent. I recommend it 1000%!

Absolutely delicious. I had the best Ensopado de Peixe ever and far beyond my expectations. I wish I had more space in my stomach to eat more. My friends also had the Bacalhau com broa which at starting they thought it was too much food but in the end there was nothing left. The doses are generous and somehow pricey but depending on the number of people at the table and how much each one eats I think you can get a good deal and value for money. This place is popular and not very spacious so I highly recommend booking a table in advance or expect a long wait at the door.

Beautiful food, perfect service. In short. Was send here by people of canal boats do could be good or a tourist trap.... Luckily was good. More than generous portions with home-cooked style dishes. Also the wine list nice and reasonable. For eel or may other dishes can recommend!

Saw someone get the “special seafood with rice” at least that is how it translates. And so we tried it… wow, it’s definitely seafood and quite the experience to try all the different seafood in a heavy broth! 😋 🤤 But, all though it says for two people I think it will feed four people! 💪🏽 (Confirmed when the family of 4 sat down next to us two and ordered the same thing) We couldn’t even finish half… all though I sure tried! Obviously a super local place as we saw the staff recognize many people. However, even with the language barrier and packed out restaurant we were treated really well! Highly recommended if you want some family dining. 😎 Basically the restaurant name translates “at our home”. So eat like you are at our home!

I totally recommend this restaurant. From the food to the service, everything was great. We had starters and a bottle of the lovely Planalto wine. For main we opted for the Cataplana and it was absolutely delicious. The gentleman serving us was so friendly and fun, made us feel very welcome. What an amazing dinner we had. A place to certainly come back every time we go to Aveiro.

Bacalhau & Afins is an excellent restaurant that serves delicious bacalhau dishes and wine pairings. The interior is well appointed and cozy, with a wide selection of menu items to choose from. The service is warm and friendly, pacing out the three main courses so that each diner can share them evenly. The wine pairings are generous pours, allowing diners to sample wines from different regions in Portugal.
Absolutely wonderful lunch here today. Food was exceptional. I started with a generous portion of prawns in garlic sauce and the chaps had Bacalhau cod and potato croquettes, all delicious. My steak with chestnuts was very tasty. My husband and friend had Portuguese style veal, which they really enjoyed and our friend's wife had mustard steak. She also appreciated the house wine. Service and atmosphere were very nice. This is obviously a popular restaurant, so very glad we had booked. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

1 star down for the unpleasant service we received from one of the waiters there who was completely arrogant and unfriendly. We have visited the place a month ago, just able now to write this review. We came to the place for it had good reviews, but if we had a slight idea about how we will be treated we would have never visited that place. Upon ordering, we asked for the tomato butter that comes as an entry and their special paté. The guy asked any bread? We said no thanks. In a very sarcastic rude way and an arrogant smile on his face he said: so how will you be eating the butter and tomato? My husband politely told him we thought that it is already served with it. He said: No! We then asked only for the paté, and the 2 main dishes ( 2 different seafood risottos) and white wine. We had the wine at first, and kept waiting for more than 20 minutes for anything to be served. Before those 20 mins, he came by and said that the food is being ready that he can see it almost done. We reminded him that we had asked for the paté. He confidently said: I know! And left us. After a while, still nothing is served. Only the main dished after 25 minutes. We were surprised and asked him about the same thing again, he said I forgot, sorry! I was really tired and the food was already late and he was unbelievable due to his attitude so I quietly said It's ok, while I was already planning to write here what happened instead of making a fuss! Seriously what kind of service was this!!! On a fair note, the dishes were incredible and tasty. Seafood was fresh and the risotto was delicious. The only thing that has disappointed us specially that it was one of those first restaurants to visit in Portugal is the service. I recommend the food, the place was clean and quiet, but the service is not what we have expected at all. Such a disappointing experience in a place that should treat people well while dining in.

We tried to call for a same-day reservation, but they explained that last-minute bookings weren’t possible and suggested we try our luck by passing by the restaurant, which we did. Fortunately, we managed to get a table, and it was absolutely worth it! The atmosphere is modern, with a simple yet elegant decoration. The food was excellent. We ordered a starter the O Pastel De Bacalhau. As main we ordered Lombo De Robalo, Tomate e o Manjericão and Bacalhau e a Manga. Both beautifully cooked, full of flavor and presented with care. Portions are generous, and the service throughout the evening was good, however not spectacular. Which is spectacular though is the presentation of the desserts. Both, Laranja e os Sabores Do Bosque and O Amendoim e o Caramelo are being put to fire for some show effect. Necessary? No. Fun to watch? For sure. Located near the canal area of Aveiro, this place is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates great Portuguese cuisine. Highly recommended, to be repeated!

Anyone who has been to Portugal quickly understands the importance of cod (bacalhau) in Portuguese cuisine. Being Portuguese myself, I have to confess that I was the exception since I never really understood the cult being this ingredient. After visiting Bacalhau & Afins I have changed my kind. The way they prepared cod is nothing short of a work of art. The dishes were original and flavourful mixing ingredients in a unique way which paired with melt in your mouth cos made the dinning experience absolutely incredible. I cannot recommend it enough.

Stopped off on the way from Porto to Fatima for lunch. Nice table outside, helpful friendly service and reasonable prices. The dumplings were perfect and the codfish with potatoes and mayonnaise was delicious. The inside is very cosy and I think it would be excellent for dinner.

Friendly staff and good food. A bit farther from the main area of restaurants, which makes it quieter if you eat in the outside.

While starters were fast to deliver and very tasty, the main dishes took 30min to deliver and were disappointing. Too many contrasting but not suited elements on the plate. Cod was chewy and not that flavorful. Potatoe puree almost tasted like pre-made fome package. Overall, good, but the experience was not that great.

Day 5

Keep it simple
For day 5, these 5 places should be enough to fill your day with something exciting to do in Aveiro. Start the day with Passadiços de Aveiro (início) and make your way through the city to get to Ovos Moles de Aveiro. This should take about 7 hours of your day.

Hiking area
Passadiços de Aveiro (início) offers a leisurely way to explore the magical landscape of Aveiro's Lagoon at your own pace, either by foot or by bike. The wooden walkways provide a 7km route as part of the larger 48-kilometer Via Ecologica Ciclavel project. While some visitors find it underwhelming, it's a great place for a relaxing walk or bike ride along the river.
Not too far from the city center. It takes only 30 mins or so too walk to the trailhead. It is such a beautiful and relaxing place to go for a walk. The sunset here is simply wonderful. This walk was the highlight of our trip to Aveiro. I highly recommend to spend downtime at this place when visiting Aveiro, especially around the sunset time.

Great place to walk and enjoy the Ria Aveiro. At the start of this route there is a really nice place for coffee, cake or sandwich. Can be busy, but when quiet it s perfect. Halfway there s a smaller restplace with drinks available..

Been here for the first time a month ago. 1. The location is easy to find by google maps. You can park your vehicles nearby. 2. There is like an office when we just arrived but it is closed. I am not sure what is it. 3. Then we can see the river and the pathway. You can walk or ride your bicycles. 4. I expect another things too see on my walk but it is not. It is just a mud, a small river, the pathway. 5. It is free to enter. Do not forget to wear your mask.

One of my favorite places in Aveiro to ride a bike. I would like the path to get there be a little more structured, as it is necessary to cross a dirt road when coming from the city center, but the walkways themselves are very pleasant.

Historical landmark
Obelisco da Liberdade is a striking monument set in an enchanting location, serving as a reminder of past human sacrifices. It's an ideal meeting point before exploring the Aveiro estuary, with nearby craft sellers and a bustling tourist area filled with cafes and restaurants. Visitors recommend taking a leisurely stroll or a tuc tuc tour to fully appreciate the city's beauty.
Depending on the day, there is also a street market here! A few local sellers sell their handmade.
Ekin — Google review
The Obelisco da Liberdade, located in Aveiro, is a modest yet historically significant monument that deserves a brief stop if you’re exploring the area. Erected in the 19th century to commemorate the establishment of a constitutional monarchy in Portugal, this obelisk stands as a reminder of the country’s struggles and triumphs during a pivotal era of its history. While the obelisk itself may not be grand or particularly eye-catching, its significance lies in the history it represents. It’s a piece of Portugal’s journey towards modern governance, making it a noteworthy stop for history enthusiasts or anyone interested in the cultural fabric of the region. This is not a destination that justifies a visit on its own. However, if you find yourself strolling through the city or visiting other nearby attractions, it’s worth a quick detour. The obelisk offers a quiet moment of reflection on the liberties that have shaped Portugal’s path. Recommendation: Include it as a brief stop in your Aveiro itinerary, especially if you’re already nearby.

The blue-white Azulejos tiles, one of Portugal's main features are widely used for decorations. Almost all Churches we visited on our 7 days Portugal are decorated with them both, inside and outside. This is also the case with this Church in the very center of Aveiro. They give life to a pretty ordinary facade, stretching further inside making a terrific contrast with gilded altar.

Rebaldaria is a hip restaurant in Aveiro known for its delicious Portuguese food with an Asian twist. The menu includes fantastic seared sushi grade tuna, light and melt-in-your-mouth cod fritters, flavorful salmon tartare, and marinated pica pau. The staff is friendly and creates a warm atmosphere for diners. They are also accommodating to children, providing drawing materials and making cute napkin boats for them. We had an amazing lunch here, really tasty tuna tacos and tuna steak! Our server (who was the owner I think) made sure that we had a great time while eating, he even brought in the little frog pot to have at our table because he noticed how much we liked it! Great food, lovely people 😊

Great small restaurant in Aveiro that we found from TheFork. Their Gambás à rebaldaria was excellent (probably one of the better prawns dish I’ve had in Portugal). Their salmon was very good too (moist with crispy skin). Their tuna wasn’t my favorite, the one that I tried was a little dry, maybe because it’s the end pieces. Overall it’s a great restaurant. I’ll come back here when I visit Aveiro again.

They have really tasty food and I think it really worths the money you give. We had menu of the day and paid more or less 8 eu per person. It included a drink, soup of the day, meal of the day(there were two options, i think one of them was vegetarian) and a coffee. All of them were extremely delicious. They also bring starters which was around 3 euro and it worths the money. They bring really tasty bread and a kind of paste. It was the best meal we had in Aveiro. Maybe it is not a ‘must go’ but if you want tasty food you can have the best meal of your vacation here. Also they have the best of service. Tasquinha Do Leitao is a Portuguese restaurant with a delicious and hearty menu. The pork sandwich and desserts are exceptional, and the coffee is superb. The service is wonderful, and Catarina the waitress is delightful. Overall, Tasquinha Do Leitao is an excellent choice for lunch or dinner in Lisbon.
Being Sardinian, I was immediately intrigued when I saw a restaurant focused on suckling pig. I have to say, even though I'm used to eating it in a completely different way, the experience was excellent. The rind was crispy, the price-quality ratio was great, and the meat, fries, salad, and sauce were all very good. The pairing they do here in Portugal is also interesting—they eat the meat while drinking sparkling wine. The atmosphere was very nice and modern. The staff was very friendly and quick with everything.

Ordered a sandwich and a Fanta for lunch. Was a big group and in total we ordered two sandwiches and to toast. It took some time to get our food and it was pretty simple sandwiches to make. They forgot to make one of the sandwiches wich was mine, so I did not get my food. After a long time we decided to not get them to make another. The staff did not talk english that well. Nice spot for lunch, but unlucky with the food.

Review of Leitão de Levira I tried their specialty – a kind of sandwich with roast pork and homemade potato chips on the side. It was my first time tasting this type of dish, and I was pleasantly surprised – the flavor was quite good. I chose the version with cheese, which had a slightly sharp taste, but it worked fine overall. The chips I got at first were a bit soft, probably from sitting out too long. However, when the waiter came to check if everything was okay, I mentioned it, and he immediately brought out a fresh portion that was crispy and much better. Great service and an interesting food experience!

Located on Rua Cavalaria Cinco, 4 in Urbanizacao das Barrocas, Aveiro, the restaurant is known for serving typical Brazilian dishes such as sausage, sirloin, and moqueca. Visitors have praised the excellent quality of the food and the welcoming atmosphere. The staff is friendly and approachable, with some even speaking French fluently.
It is far past due for me to write a review of one of our favorite restaurants in Aveiro. My wife and I have been coming to Galetos Dourados for one year now, probably having meals here at least 3 times a month. Perhaps the reason it feels like eating at home is that Gelatos Dourados is located next door to us! They have been in business for 35 years for good reason. If you are on holiday and nervous about eating out, the wait staff speak excellent english. If you are like us, and learning Portuguese, they have also helped us learn the language! The food is excellent and the staff is amazing. I tend towards the pork dishes but also started ordering their beef. Their grilled meats are excellent, their feijoada is very good. Anything you order is great. We find that a meia dose (half portion) is usually enough for the two of us, combined with a salada mista and perhaps bread or olives. If you have a big appetite, order the regualar portion! My wife loves their linguiça (sausage) that is offered as an appetizer. If they have rissol (shrimp patties/croquettes) available, they are also a "can't miss." I read reviews about the noise, etc. They have a large space, are busy, welcoming, and reasonably priced. Personally, I enjoy seeing families with young children enjoying a meal. If you are visiting Aveiro, do yourself a favor and have a local meal at Galetos Dourados!

Great food, nice staff... but an incredible amount of noise!! My dinner was an amazing hour in an extremely noisy environment (kids screaming, laughing parents, banging cutlery...).

The waiter is extremely friendly and helpful. His english is awesome. We ordered mixed grill. The fries are fine for Dutch standard. The meat ist pretty good. They are: 1 great steak, 1 good sausage, 1 juicy piece of chicken wing. Other than that, chicken rolled with bacon and pork were not my favor.

As a Brazilian, feels like home, best food I had in Portugal.

This is a medium restaurant in Aveiro whose specialty is Brazillian food. Food quality is OK, however quantities could be higher comparing the price we pay for a menu. Not many parking spots available, coffee is great as well as the house wine.
