Sights & Landmarks
The Luís I Bridge is a prominent arched bridge that spans the Douro River, connecting Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. It features two levels, with the upper level accommodating trams and pedestrians, while the lower level is open to various vehicles. Designed by architect Teophile Seyrig, a partner of Gustave Eiffel, this metal arch bridge was completed in 1886.
Absolutely beautiful bridge both being on it and looking at it from below. It is awesome during the day and amazing at night. You can get fantastic views while walking across the top portion of the bridge leading you to and from Gaia. It’s hard to to come see this bridge because it is a pedestrian and train commuter highway!
Ben — Google review
This bridge is spectular!! We walked on the lower portion of the bridge to cross over and there were many people. There were teenagers jumping off of the bridge into the water! It was fun and a little wild. Many people and a fair amount of traffic. We walked on the upper portion of the bridge to get back over and it was extremely picturesque. Even with the sun beaming down, the wind was refreshing and it was lovely. Great spot to take photos. The train runs along here but did not seem to affect our experience. I would 100% recommend walking on the upper portion, but the lower portion was fun too! (Also there is a winery when you cross over that we would have missed if we didn’t walk over on the bottom.)
Rhilee E — Google review
There are many beautiful pictures of the bridge, if you're interested in the architectural structure. My personal pics are not taken from the bridge but from a lovely bar on the river with the bridge to the left of me. Well... I deserved the drink having walked through Porto to get there!
Jaci H — Google review
Amazing view regardless of weather. But just be ready to walk in the crowd. Always busy with tourists and street vendors. Also be careful when train passes by. If you want to get a good picture while on the bridge, look for asian guys with big dslr camera taking pictures of their gf or wife. They’re super skilled and professional photographers😆

Ingenious, elegant, photogenic. These are just a few descriptions of Porto's most famous landmark: the (Dom) Luis I Bridge. In 1879, the Portuguese government launched a competition for the construction of a bridge to replace the 1842 Ponte Pênsil. Due to the economic boom, this bridge, officially called the Ponte D. Maria II, could no longer handle the increased traffic. Of the nine proposals submitted, the design by Belgian engineer Théophile Seyrig, one of two by the Société Anonyme de Construction et des Ateliers de Willebroeck, was selected. (A common misconception about the Dom Luis I Bridge is that it was designed by Gustave Eiffel. This is understandable, as Théophile Seyrig, the bridge's designer, co-founded Eiffel et Cie with Gustave Eiffel in 1868.) Construction began on November 21, 1881, and King Luís I of Portugal opened the bridge named after him on October 31, 1886. Exactly two years later, the Lower Bridge was also opened. The Upper Bridge is 395 meters long and 45 meters high, while the Lower Bridge is 172 meters long and 10 meters high. Until January 1, 1944, a toll was charged for using the bridge. While the Lower Bridge has been used by (motorized) traffic since its opening, the Upper Bridge has been closed to motorized traffic since 2003, and since 2005, only light rail trains of the Porto Metro have run across it (and, of course, the many, many pedestrians who come to admire the bridge). No visitor or resident of Porto can or would want to miss this magnificent feat of civil engineering!
Koen — Google review
Lovely bridge in particular for first time visitors to Porto as you get nice views of the water and areas on both side of the river. Make sure to walk over the bridge both on lower level and upper level as well as both day and night. You get nice and different views in each scenario.
Reza N — Google review
An iconic structure offering panoramic views of Porto. Well-maintained and easily accessible by metro. Perfect for sightseeing and photography. Definitely one of the city’s highlights.

Magnificent bridge for people to walk across the river, and also connects the public transport. Provides a great view from the bridge. But check out the Nice riverside walk too.

The Palácio da Bolsa, also known as the Stock Exchange Palace, is a grand 19th-century building in Porto that celebrates the city's prosperous merchants. This neoclassical landmark was once the headquarters of the Porto Trade Association and later housed the Portuguese stock exchange.
Such a wonderful place to visit in Porto. It’s so beautiful, every part of this palace is so magical. And of course the gold room is my favorite it’s magnificent. The lady who works there as a tour guide is so nice and also she’s so funny. She explained to us everything with a funny story and the people laughed and everybody had a good time. The other things I liked about it was the carpet, they had so many Persian carpets in different rooms and they were so colorful and pretty. I loved this place, so if you are in Porto you have to visit the palace. You will love it.
Sevda A — Google review
💯% worth it! If you’re questioning ‘is it worth it?’, it most definitely is! It’s a 30 minute guided tour - you’ll come to understand why, but it’s absolutely phenomenal! Thank you for the experience. I would recommend booking tickets early. The great thing the Palácio do is conduct the tours in various languages, therefore slots get booked up pretty quick, so my advice would be to book early/prior. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, saying he had only been there 3 weeks. An excellent guide. Thank you 💫
Trehan — Google review
Beautiful palace showcasing many different elements of Portuguese history of law and commerce. Tickets were reasonable and the tour was fairly informative but not overly long. Be sure to check for the appropriate time slots when visiting.
Colton B — Google review
An amazing building steeped in history that is still being used today! Tight, but informative 30 minute guided tour was worth it and I would recommend you buy the tickets ahead of time. Make sure to take lots of pictures and absorb all you can. My personal favourite was the Arabian room, simply for its grandeur and craftsmanship. I highly recommend it if YOURE in Porto!
Scott L — Google review
Stunning range of architecture and design across a series of rooms. The Arab inspired room was particularly beautiful. Note though that it is a whistle stop tour with not much time to linger. The tour guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, but time constraints probably meant we missed out on some of the background. Still worth the visit though.
Gareth E — Google review
beautiful palace constructed across the reign of the last king and the beginning of the republic, never a royal residence but looks fit to be one. the tour was amazing and loved the guide -- a bit pricier than other attractions but that's being a tourist for you. buy tickets in advance and you might get some discount.

Great! We arrived at 09:05 on a Sunday without having bought an online ticket (wasn’t available the night before). There was no queue and we could immediately buy a ticket for the 30-minute guided tour for the slot at 09:15. Our guide was great, very enthusiastic and clear. What a beautiful place this palace is, with a rich history. Only downside would be that the 30 minutes felt a bit too rushed. We wanted to listen to the guide but also look around a bit (there were some rooms that weren’t explicitly shown by the guide, but that you could enter if you wanted) Doing both at the same time wasn’t always possible. 5-10 minutes extra would be great… but I do understand that they’ve put a time limit on the tours. Our group consisted of about 20-25 people and that was perfect to still enjoy all the different spaces, listen and see the details. You would not want the space to be packed with people just hanging around. I would highly recommend to visit this beautiful place. The pictures speak for itself :)
Lauren — Google review
We took the 30 minute tour in English of this palace and it was very interesting and informative, but maybe didn’t do justice to the interesting history of this landmark. The architecture is pretty amazing and the famous blue room was spectacular to see. Our guide was very friendly and gave a good presentation, but the tour seemed a bit hurried. Spending more time here would be great. I would definitely recommend seeing this unique palace while you’re visiting Porto.

Rising 76 meters high, Torre dos Clérigos is a prominent baroque bell tower in Porto. Climbing its 225 steps rewards visitors with panoramic views of the city, including landmarks like Praca da Liberdade, Livraria Lello bookshop, and the Douro valley. This historic structure offers a bird's-eye perspective of Porto and is a must-visit for first-time sightseers looking to orient themselves in Portugal's second largest city.
The climb isn't as bad as it sounds, I was surprised when I got to the top, as it was quite fast to get there. The steps to the top include a stroll around the church area, where you're taking your time and not using much energy. Note there is a water vending machine that only accepts cash, not card, so bring your own water. The views from the top, are 360, breath-taking of the city, and well worth the climb. Would recommend to everyone in Porto.
Arjan V — Google review
Such an impressive tower, not only close up but can be seen even from over the river viewed from the port cellars. The view from the top is amazing, but there is also a lot to see inside the building which I was not expecting - plenty of history and intricate carvings, with lots of detail to go with them. Definitely worth a visit when in Porto - best to get there early - around 10 if possible as the tour groups seem to descend about 11.
Jamie P — Google review
We bought tickets in advance and got in quickly with no wait at all. The security guard made us check our backpack, but we noticed many people inside with backpacks the same size or larger than ours so this was a little annoying. There are many many stairs but it is gradual, as you walk around the building and go bit by bit so it was not tiring at all. Once you get past the church and the main open spaces, you line up to go to the top. This is where it gets fun. There is no organization to how many people go up or flow of traffic. You are supposed to go left to right but the space gets smaller as you go further up the tower. The stairs are cramped and like merging during high traffic time. Once you get to the top, the personal space does not exist but the view- is worth it!! I think this attraction could be improved with better traffic flow and a head count but this may not be realistic. If you are claustrophobic or have problems being sardined in with other people, this is not for you! As well, there is a bathroom in the middle of the building so you have to use it when you see it or you will have to reenter or find a different washroom. This lay out was not great. The views of the city are amazing and you have a panoramic view (if you can squeeze by to see it.) I would recommend but one and done. I would not go again as I have done it!
Rhilee E — Google review
This is arguably one of Porto’s most recognizable landmarks, built in the mid-18th century by architect Nicolau Nasoni for the brotherhood of clerics. Our walking tour guide mentioned that it is approximately about 75 metres tall, with about 225 stairs to climb up. From the top, you are offered a panoramic view of Porto, the rooftops, the Douro River and the city layout. The tower and the associated church (Igreja dos Clérigos) are fine examples of Baroque style in Portugal. If you’re looking for a “view over Porto” experience, this is one of the best vantage spots. The climb makes is a bit of an activity, but well worth the view.
Esther B — Google review
The chapel is beautiful and was very much active in communion service and I think a few christenings when we arrived for our 2pm slot. We were early as advised and so explored the architecture which is beautiful. When you enter for you allocated slot, you can explore more of the chapel and get some great views of the interior art and architecture. The museum areas on each floor were interesting too. The climb to the top of the tower is not for the claustrophobic. It is narrow and very busy with people going up and coming back down. It’s the same on the observation area half way up and when you get to the top. Overall Nice views at the top, beautiful building, very busy. Glad we done it, but once it’s done it’s done.
Paul M — Google review
Great experience, but happy I went during the low season as I'm sure the stairs to the tower can be quite uncomfortable with more than the number of people they allowed during my visit. Very narrow passages to get up and down the tower. The museum was great and offered a lot of info regarding the architect Nicolau Nasoni.
Stacey B — Google review
This tower-like church has such a beautiful and unique architectural design. Its tall, slender silhouette makes it stand out instantly — truly one of Porto’s most iconic landmarks. Absolutely breathtaking! ⛪✨
YMK W — Google review
It was on my bucket list from beginning when walking in downtown or visiting Porto’s cathedral, it was all the time sticking out from city’s buildings and that was much better to see it from distance. When you get close or visit it, it offers great views and museum from more than 70 meter height plus location on hill. Highest bell tower in Portugal with 360 views

Clérigos Church, a Baroque church in Porto, is renowned for its marble altarpiece and a 75-meter bell tower that has become an iconic symbol of the city. The Torre dos Clérigos, constructed in 1750 by the well-known Tuscan architect Nicolau Nasoni, stands as the tallest building in Porto's historic center. Visitors can climb 240 spiral steps to reach the top of the tower and enjoy panoramic views of the city.
great views from the top of the tower although it is a bit of a climb up narrow and steep stairs as with all olden architecture. i regret i didn't return at night to see the laser show (legs too tired by all the climbing haha). there are exhibitions of ecclesiastical art and the history of the tower inside.

The Igreja dos Clérigos is a beautiful church located in the heart of Porto. It features a stunning collection of sacred art in the Baroque style, and every detail — from the magnificent organ to the richly decorated main altar — is truly impressive. If you’re in good shape, don’t miss the climb up the Torre dos Clérigos; the panoramic view of the city from the top is absolutely worth it. I highly recommend visiting this iconic landmark!

We visited the Clérigos Church in Porto and chose the full experience, including the light and sound show — and it was absolutely worth it. The church itself is stunning, with beautiful architecture and a peaceful atmosphere that makes you pause and look around. The light and sound show added a special touch, bringing the history and details of the church to life in a memorable way. It made the visit feel even more meaningful and immersive. Overall, a truly beautiful place and definitely worth visiting if you’re in Porto.
Andre B — Google review
Very beautiful church! People mostly come here for the tower or taking a picture in front of the main gate. Yet, the church inside is very beautiful, so I would strongly recommend to visit the church as well! It is easy to walk from the city center.
Ekin — Google review
The Igreja dos Clérigos (Church of the Clergymen) is particularly striking for its 75.6-meter bell tower, visible from afar in central Porto. This Baroque church of the Brotherhood of the Clergymen was built between 1732 and 1750 to a design by the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni. Construction of the Torre de Clérigos did not begin until 1754 and, like the monumental double staircase at the front, was completed in 1763. The Clérigos was one of the first churches in Portugal to adopt the oval floor plan common in the Baroque style. Since 2015, the church and tower have been open to visitors in the evenings.
Koen — Google review
Amazing Church. Our Lady of Sorrows, St John the Evangelist, St Andrew Avellino, Ste Anne Virgin Mary and Child Jesus all representations are wonderful. Our visit was coupled with melancolic music coming from outside... so touching moment highly recommended. Visiting the church is free. Small queue at the entrance.
A A — Google review
The Clérigos Church and Tower is a landmark in Porto. I recommend booking in advance as it can get very busy. After the Luis The I Bridge, the Clérigos church and tower are the most visited objectives in Porto. Narrow steps lead to the top of the tower. Once there, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of Porto.
Cristea A — Google review
Visiting the tower is a great experience. You walk through the church facilities and rooms which display history and info about the building. Then walk up the narrow stairs in the tower. The view at the top probably offers the best views of Porto.

Perched atop Pena Ventosa, Porto Cathedral is a remarkable hilltop Romanesque structure with a fortress-like interior and Gothic cloisters. This historic site, part of Porto's UNESCO World Heritage-listed old town, showcases a blend of architectural styles including Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque. Constructed over several centuries starting in the 12th century, it features an impressive altarpiece made entirely of silver and stunning Portuguese azulejos tiles adorning its cloisters.
The Catedral do Porto is truly a remarkable landmark and well worth a visit. The exterior alone is striking, with its historic architecture standing proudly at the heart of the city, but stepping inside reveals even more beauty. The interior is impressive — clean, well maintained, and full of intricate details that highlight its centuries of history and significance. It’s the kind of place where you can pause, admire the craftsmanship, and feel the weight of the past all around you. One of the best aspects is the accessibility of the visit. The entrance fee is very reasonable at just €3 for adults, which feels like excellent value considering what you get in return. The highlight for me was climbing the tower. From the top, you’re rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view over Porto, offering a unique perspective of the city’s rooftops, the Douro River, and beyond. It’s a perfect spot for photographs and for simply taking in the scenery. Overall, the Catedral do Porto offers both historical charm and unforgettable views at a very fair price. It’s a must-see for anyone visiting the city, whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or just want to enjoy one of the best viewpoints Porto has to offer.

The cathedral in Porto feels like stepping into another time. It’s one of the main landmarks, on the hill, and you can feel the city’s history all around you. Inside, it’s calm and simple, untouched by time. The view from in front of the cathedral is one of the best in Porto. You can actually see the cathedral from almost anywhere, even from the other side of the city. Entry costs 3 euros. Best to go early before the crowd.

A beautiful and historic cathedral with an amazing view over the city and the Douro River. The interior is impressive, with a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles. The cloisters are stunning and definitely worth the small entry fee. It’s one of the best places to start exploring Porto’s old town.

The Sé do Porto is a stunning cathedral in the heart of Porto. Its main altar features an impressive Baroque style, and the interior is beautifully decorated with traditional azulejos (ceramic tiles). The cloister, though rather minimalist, has a quiet elegance and charm. From the top of the cathedral, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the entire city of Porto.
Murillo P — Google review
the most impressive religious building in Porto - no small feat as there are churches with blue tilework on what seems like every corner. also a spot for pilgrims on the Carmino. the religious artwork is exquisite. a climb to the roof will give a great view of the city.
M — Google review
Standing proudly on one of Porto’s highest hills, the Sé do Porto (Porto Cathedral) is a masterpiece of stone and soul — a place where faith, history, and imagination intertwine. Built between the 12th and 18th centuries, it blends Romanesque strength, Gothic arches, and Baroque elegance into one timeless structure. From its terrace, the sweeping views of the Ribeira district, the Douro River, and the Dom Luís I Bridge capture the city’s essence — ancient, dramatic, and endlessly photogenic. Inside, the blue-and-white azulejos and quiet cloisters whisper stories of devotion. But beyond its sacred beauty, there’s a touch of literary magic too. Locals often say Porto feels like Harry Potter, because it was part of J.K. Rowling’s world when she was writing it. During her years living in Porto, the city’s cobbled streets, cloisters, and gothic towers — including the Cathedral — likely helped shape the imagination behind Hogwarts’ enchanting world.
Andreas N — Google review
When you visit downtown, you will not miss it. Well situation on highest place as dominant, with fantastic view to city’s surroundings. After you are done, you can walk on steep stairs down to Ribeira and see it from bottom. Nice view is offered to see cathedral from other side of bridge

I didn’t expect to like visiting this complex as much as I did, it was great! Out of all the religious buildings in Porto, I’d say this one is definitely worth a visit. The cloisters are pretty and you can walk up the tower. The cathedral is small but impressive.

Jardim do Morro is a hilltop green space in Porto that offers stunning panoramic views of the city and the distant Atlantic. Visitors can reach this picturesque spot by taking a scenic cable car ride or walking across the iconic Ponte de Dom Luis. The park is popular among locals and tourists alike, especially during late afternoon when people gather to watch the sunset over the river.
If you’re visiting Porto, you can’t miss Jardim do Morro. It’s one of those magical spots where everything just feels better especially at sunset. It’s right across the famous Dom Luís I Bridge, on the Gaia side, and the view of the river and the city is absolutely stunning. People usually hang out on the grass with a beer or a glass of wine, listen to live music, or just relax. The vibe is super chill, perfect for taking great photos or simply enjoying the moment. Totally recommended if you want a local, laid-back experience.
Adriana B — Google review
It’s wonderful, especially at sunset. There’s almost always someone playing music and singing, which makes the atmosphere so relaxing. You don’t even need to bring food or drinks – there are always people selling them at great prices. The view of the sunset is absolutely perfect, and it’s worth coming either by cable car or walking across the bridge.
G G — Google review
I went to see the sunset here, and it was truly a memorable experience. The atmosphere was full of life, with so many people gathered to enjoy the same moment—you can really feel the energy and vibe of the place. The view itself is breathtaking, with golden colors spreading across the horizon, making the site both beautiful and unforgettable. I’d definitely recommend coming at least once to witness it for yourself. There are excellent viewing spots on both sides of the railroad, as well as higher up on the hill, each offering a slightly different but equally stunning perspective.
Chen Z — Google review
I went to watch the sunset and it was beautiful. It was my first time, there was live music and people everywhere. I didn’t see the play ground, but people were selling good and drinks. It was September so the temperature dropped, but luckily other drinks were sold to keep you warm (not hot chocolate). Oh and the train drops you off right there too

Fantastic views of Porto from axross the river. Easily accesses by cable car or the tram. Walking across the bridge is also an option. Went there two evenings to hopefully watch the sun set but cloudy on both days. Dont be put off though, the atmpsphere, vibes, live music , restaurants and food stalls should not be missed. Loved every moment.

This is a park you want to experience to watch the sun set over Porto. It is the perfect place to do so, but arrive at least an hour beforehand to get a good spot on the hill. Hundreds of people show up to watch the sunset and it becomes a party with music, vendors, people selling drinks and live bands. The bridge is another great spot with amazing views if the park is too crowded.

This local bar caters mostly to tourist but they offer a lot of different options, including quite a few vegetarian ones. Based on the prices you can quickly identify the items more meant for locals. Just don’t order coffee or cappuccino even though they have milk alternatives and decaf on the menu: it is not what would be served internationally. There are toilets available, but only down a flight of stairs.

We stopped here for coffee on a rainy day but after looking at the menu and smelling the food we decided to have lunch first. We chose from the specials menu which have better prices than the regular menu. Food was delicious and plenty. I had a chicken soup and then a cod dish as main. All was tasty and typical Portuguese. After lunch we had our coffees with pastels de nata and a palmier. The palmier was the only thing I wouldn't recommend but it won't lower my score. Staff was polite and efficient, and the owner, or boss, at the till speaks many languages. A lady next to me made a mistake ordering her meal and they changed it for her with no quibbles. I'll definitely come back here next time I'm in Porto

Great food for a really good prices. Full of local people so you know where to eat. Soup was thickened with flour.. but otherwise amazing. Big portion of fresh fish compared for a price. Kind and helpful staff. Recommend!

A busy little place for a good reason. All the staff are really friendly to me and my dog. It's a dog friendly place. And I don't speak any Portuguese. My meal was so filling I could barely move afterwards. 👌 I would definitely go back.

Great place to get rolls for ~ €2 as a snack or get two for a meal The bifana stands out as a hot sliced pork roll with just enough gravy. The fish (hake) roll is also excellent. My third choice would be the fried pork cutlet. I guess the other reviews were shocked by the pricing, anything fried is slightly more expensive due extra steps and effort

Hard Club, situated near the renowned Palacio da Bolsa in Porto, is a cultural hub housed within the Mercado Ferreira Borges. The building's striking color and classification as a Property of Public Interest make it an intriguing location. Inside, there are three distinct spaces: Room 1 for large events, Room 2 for more intimate gatherings, and the Main Floor with free access featuring exhibitions and activities. This vibrant venue is a hotspot for music enthusiasts and night revelers alike.
There is an amazing market inside at day, and all days. Super friendly sellers, fantastic atmosphere, nice music 🎶! You should to come here. And I love project with a bags it's very unique 🫶

We have been with you during our Porto holiday and visited Amplifest 2022 - we loved it at your place! ;) Thanks a lot for great shows, lovely yummy food and drinks! Everybody in the service (in the restaurant and also behind the bars) was very nice and polite. Go on like this, looking forward to seeing you again soon! Kind regards from Germany, Christoph & Lena

I think it's the only club in Porto capable of hosting some of the greatest bands. However, it has audio feedback trouble almost every time a louder band plays, preventing the band from hearing the audience. And both concert spaces have ventilation troubles which they could not fix for years and years. It's always very hot and stuffy inside. Hard Club could do better.
Nataliia D — Google review
Many really good concerts at this venue. But some things needs improvement, e.g. ventilation is poor. And people keep smoking... In 2025 some awkward (idiotic) changes happend like cashless with bracelets. Not enough standing in the queues?! It's not festival guys!

Nice live music club, friendly staff, very safe (next to the police station). VERY hot, no seats, long line for the coat storage.

Restaurante Dourum is located at Cais de Gaia, offering a pleasant panoramic view of the river. It's a quaint restaurant with traditional flavors and a cozy atmosphere. The place is known for its accommodating service, especially for families with children. Visitors praise the breathtaking views of Porto and the bridge from all angles.
On November 11, 2024, we discovered this gem by chance, and it exceeded all expectations. The food was outstanding, local cod, soup, Francesinha, lemon pie, and other desserts were all exceptional. The staff, including the owner, were kind and welcoming. The place was spotless, with comfortable seating, well-spaced tables, and a relaxing atmosphere. Service was perfectly timed, and the prices were fair. We highly recommend!
Rivea. R — Google review
In general it was good. I put 4 stars because I think the service could have been a little bit better but the food was great. I would recommend it if you want to eat something more like a Portuguese typical food.

As we were walking past this restaurant, we were hungry and saw they had steamed fresh mussels so we walked in. We ordered a portion of mussels followed by prawns sautéed in olive oil and garlic which we shared. My wife ordered a chocolate mousse and I went for a local egg dessert called estaladiço served with black cherry soup. Overall this was not a meal we will remember. The mussels, although plump and meaty, were tasteless, the prawns were not deveined but were tasty thanks to the garlic. My wife liked the chocolate mousse whereas the local dessert was sprinkled with cinnamon which I do not like! I wish it would have been mentioned on the menu or by the waiter! Not a place we would return to!
Thierry D — Google review
The service and location were great, besides the occasional loud cars passing by. The food wasn’t too special but I wouldn’t say I hated it. I tried the Cod “a Portuguese” which I didn’t particularly like (3/10) and would say it was rather okay. My brother tried the Francesina and said it was good (7.5/10) and really liked the combination of the sauce and cheese. The charcuterie board might have been our favorite out of the dishes we have tried with its variety of meats and cheeses.
Alex S — Google review
We found this restaurant via Trip Advisor and Lonely Planet. Very quaint restaurant, and though it seems small on the main level, there are plenty of tables upstairs. Traveling with a toddler is very difficult in Portugal, as not many restaurants have food for kids (or not for my picky child). Thankfully, the server (& chef) was happy to provide some bread and cheese for her. This place has the BEST views from all angles of Porto & the bridge....it's easy to fall in love.😍♥️

Literally right next to the iconic bridge! The view is unbeatable. The porto wine is delicious and sweet. The food was delicious. The service was good. European service is different than American. They're more laid back here. It's an adjustment for us. Otherwise great dinning experience.

20,50 EUR for a single leg of octopus (served almost cold) is a literal joke. At least, I could switch to the veal without being charged extra. Overall, a semi-pleasant experience, only saved by the professional behaviour, warmth, and kindness of our waiter.

An afternoon to remember unfolded at Restaurante Dourum. Nestled in Porto, it offered the perfect lunchtime escape. We dove into Porto's culinary scene with Francesinha, a decadent meat and bread masterpiece, and Bacalau croquettes, delivering explosive bites of creamy codfish goodness. The attentive service added another layer of delight to the experience. If you're looking for a flavorful and fulfilling afternoon, Restaurante Dourum is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

Restaurant
Barão Fladgate, part of Taylors Port and located in Vila Nova de Gaia, is a renowned restaurant offering stunning views of the Douro River and Porto city. The outdoor terrace provides an ideal setting to savor a meal while enjoying the picturesque surroundings. The menu features traditional Portuguese dishes such as roast kid, veal, duck, salted codfish, octopus, and sea bream.
Another highlight of the trip was the trip to Taylors port house and their restaurant- Barao Fladgate. We knew we would be in for something special due to my wife's research, but this place was sublime. The place exudes class and expertise, from the bread and amuse bouche, through the starter, mains and finally dessert, the whole experience was a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds. Again, this is an experience that warrants more stars. If you love food, do not miss this experience! Special thanks to all the staff for the expertise, skill, and knowledge.

The food is very mediocre and definitely not worth the price. However, the desserts were delicious! The service and atmosphere are excellent, and the presentation of the dishes is artistic and beautiful.
Elizaveta B — Google review
As others have said, small portions with high prices. Take the bread and you'll pay €5. It was fresh and came with some terrific olive oil and butter. The panacotta starter was ok but lacking flavor, not at all with the time of expense to order. My wife had the corvina which was reportedly good and I tried some of her sides which were, let's say, delicate. Vegetables are hard to find in restaurants in general, but I had some samplings on my plate with fennel, carrots and what was I think a tiny piece of zucchini. They complemented the pork which, while perfectly cooked, again lacked flavor and seasoning. We skipped wine and dessert. I was impressed that ordering tap water got me a glass bottle of filtered water, saving the waste of store bought supplies of some far-off land. Service was slow but friendly and paying with a credit card will get you a prompt to tip like an American. I'll admit I rounded up a few euros. We were hungry, this restaurant was open when others weren't, and so I'm glad we went but would probably skip the repeat.

Last minute dinner resp right after visiting the winery. Was a little apprehensive as I saw some negative reviews but overall I enjoyed the experience. The bread basket was a healthy amount of bread (not " two pieces") with some very high quality olive oil and basalmic vinegar. I don't normally like olive bread but these two paired very well together. The tasting menu with wine pairing also came together beautifully. Waiter explained courses well and pacing was good. I finished my meal (admittedly as solo which meant relatively quickly) in 1.5 hours but didn't feel rushed at all. The price, service, view, and location I all thought were good. Would recommend to others without hesitation. Especially if you want to try the restaurant associated with such a famous Port house.

Lovely restaurant, although my aunt and I didn’t try any wine, but the food is amazing by itself! And the view in front of you is incredible!! Would definitely recommend people to come here for once😍

Incredible meal! Everything was beautifully presented and the view is just gorgeous. We did not do the tasting menu as we wanted to try specific items. The beef tartare is a must (and that’s coming from someone who usually doesn’t prefer it!) Of course this meal is pricier than most, but worth it in my opinion. The sommelier is really helpful and helped us pick out wonderful glasses.
Jamie L — Google review
Amazing restaurant. Worth it just for the panoramic views of Porto itself but the food was excellent as well. Duck breast was one of the best dishes we had all trip as was the tartare. Delicious food with Michelin level presentation, good wine select with friendly sommelier. Very reasonable prices. Well worth the trip across the Douro. Entrance a little tricky to find, follow the signs
Alex B — Google review
Food quality and portions to value was horrible. Service was mixed. They are trying to make it upscale by having interactions with multiple waiters. Some knew what they were doing, others didn't which ultimately makes this strategy frustrating. Wine list is poor and had to refuse initial recommendation because it was so bad. Second option wasn't much better. Sad considering wine is their business and we could have picked up anything better from grocery store for 10 Euro. Live music was way too loud. Facilities and location has so much potential but everything about this place is just a money grab. I would not go again.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Livraria Lello, also known as Livraria Lello & Irmao, is more than just a bookstore; it's a historical and architectural gem located in downtown Porto. This lavish establishment opened its doors in 1906 and boasts a stunning combination of Neo-Gothic, Art Deco, and Art Nouveau styles. The exterior features intricate woodwork and a large stained glass window with the bookshop's monogram.
Absolutely magical experience! Visiting Livraria Lello on a private after-hours tour is something entirely worth it!!! You will never see something like it before in your life, for the bookstore’s history and soul comes even more alive when you have the privilege to see it on your own with your family or friends! Make sure to take your time , to absorb each unique detail from this 1906 bookstore beautiful presented this time by Sergio. What surprising & enchanting stories fill up this place and even more when it’s team are so passionate about their work. Congratulations Lello Team for the great work.
Maria N — Google review
Livraria Lello is without a doubt a stunning and historic place. The architecture is impressive and it feels like stepping into a storybook. That said, the experience felt more like visiting a tourist attraction than a library or bookstore. When we went, it was extremely crowded, which made it hard to truly enjoy the space. It was difficult to move around, take in the details, or even browse the books comfortably. The staff seemed a bit tired or impatient, possibly because they deal with large crowds all day. Not rude, but not exactly welcoming either. I paid 10 euros just to enter, which can be used as a credit toward a book. But most of the books were priced around 13 or 14 euros, so you still end up paying extra. Yes, you get a discount, but personally I found the books to be overpriced for what they were. If you're really into architecture or literary history, it might still be worth it. But if you don’t go early, expect it to be packed. Personally, I’m not sure I’d recommend it to someone unless they go first thing in the morning and know what to expect.
Ali M — Google review
There’s no doubt — Livraria Lello is one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. The moment you step inside, it’s hard not to gasp: the intricate woodwork, the stained glass ceiling, the sweeping red staircase that seems to float in the air — it’s pure architectural poetry. You can absolutely see why people link it to Harry Potter and call it a must-see in Porto. But — and there’s a big “but” — it’s also one of the busiest, most crowded spots in the city. The line outside starts early and grows fast. Unfortunately, the queuing system isn’t well managed — people often skip ahead, and staff struggle to keep order, which can be frustrating, especially if you’ve been waiting patiently. Once inside, the space is stunning but packed wall-to-wall with visitors, making it nearly impossible to take in the details or snap a photo without a crowd in the background. It feels more like a museum moment than a peaceful bookstore visit. That said, the magic is still real. The craftsmanship of the staircase, the warmth of the lighting, and the sheer history of the place make it worth seeing at least once. The attached bookshop sells lovely editions (including Harry Potter books with special covers) and the entrance fee is redeemable toward a purchase — a nice touch. If you go, arrive early, book ahead, and bring patience. It’s undeniably beautiful, even if the experience is far from calm.
Andreas N — Google review
Very much a tourist trap. Timed ticket entry with long queues outside and busy inside once you get in. Paid €10 ticket which you can use against a purchase of a book. Very striking interior which was supposed to of inspired JK Rowling when writing Harry Potter. Would maybe best getting the first entry time ticket of the day to fully enjoy the interior.
David G — Google review
A bit smaller than I thought, but the place is astonishing. It feels surreal to think about the history that this place has once your inside. The quantities of books in different languages it’s impressive, and the people working in there is very kind and helpful. We went in late on a Monday, so it was not too crowded, but I’ve heard it gets pretty busy and can get out of control with the amount of people because the place is small. My recommendation is plan to go on a less busy time (use Google maps as a guide) and buy your ticket in advance, then enjoy the experience. If you buy a book, the entry ticket gets deducted from the price which is great!
Manuel G — Google review
The wait is long, the inside is crowded but beautiful. A small bucket list item for us and it was worth the wait. Make sure to buy tickets online and if you want to skip the wait and plan to buy a book buy a gold ticket! Books are available in multiple languages so no need to worry about not being able to read!
Adam T — Google review
I was SO disappointed. :( You have to pay for a ticket to get in, and that money can be applied to a book if you want to purchase one. The problem is that the selection of books is so sad. Maybe if they stocked books that people would actually want to read then they would have more sales. I’m not usually this negative about stuff, but this was the worst tourist trap I’ve ever experienced. Obviously the staircase was beautiful, but this small and crowded store was a ripoff.
Tara G — Google review
The Lello Bookstore is housed in an outstandingly beautiful building in Porto. It feels as if a magical realism novel has come to life and transformed into architecture. The staircase and ceiling are absolutely incredible — true works of art. As a bookstore, however, the selection is quite limited, with only about 5 to 10 book titles available in different languages. Still, it’s definitely worth the visit for the atmosphere alone. Make sure to buy your ticket in advance — it’s a must!

Mercado do Bolhão is a historic, two-level market housed in a neoclassical building that opened in central Porto in 1917. It has become an iconic city landmark with its charming faded grandeur and family-run stalls offering fresh produce, meats, fish, sausages, flowers, and local crafts. Visitors can enjoy a multisensory experience as they wander through narrow corridors filled with colorful sights and enticing aromas.
This market was absolutely excellent! The variety of food on offer is incredible everything from dried and fresh foods to vibrant fruits, drinks, and even plants. There were plenty of samples to taste, which made the visit even more enjoyable. It’s a real feast for the senses and a great spot to explore. Definitely a must-see, and a perfect place to stop for a delicious lunch. Highly recommended!

It’s a huge market that has everything from meat, fish, wine, and souvenirs to artist market. It’s directly connected to the train station so you can access it quite easily. It definitely has an element of tourist trap with certain dishes and goods, but I also saw plenty of locals simply grocery shopping. I personally loved the seafood and the ham. They also have insanely cheap glasses of wine so be careful if you’re going to be drinking! But it’s a must visit place for me in Porto
Scott L — Google review
Mercado do Bolhão is one of the highlights of Porto and a must-visit if you want to experience the city’s flavours in one place. The market is spotless, beautifully restored, and full of life. From the moment you step inside, you are surrounded by stalls offering fresh fish, fragrant olives, local olive oils, fresh fruit, fruit juices, meats, and brilliantly packed sardines that make perfect gifts. We purchased some olives and a bottle of white wine and enjoyed them right there in the market. Walking around with a glass of crisp wine while tasting the olives and chatting with vendors felt both authentic and relaxing. The fishmongers and food stalls are a delight to explore, and you will also find stores selling handicrafts, so it really has a little bit of everything. What stood out most to me was the balance between tradition and modern comfort. You get the energy of a traditional Portuguese market, but in a clean, organised, and welcoming space. Whether you come to taste, shop, or just soak in the atmosphere, Mercado do Bolhão is worth your time.

Situated very close to Bolhao metro station, this place is on the itinerary of every tourist. It is the ideal place to pick up souvenirs of porto, wine, olive oil, candied fruits and cute tiny boxes of sardines. There are food stalls selling freshly made snacks, vegetable vendors selling out of season fruits and vegetables, plant nursery stalls, and interesting looking chocolates packed in attractive boxes. A nice leisurely walk in the hall browsing through the goodies is enough to pass a couple of hours. There are restaurants on the top floor that stay open till late.

Good market, lots of food. Bought some souvenirs for the family here. For tourists(just like me) visiting, please be watchful of the closing time. Google says closing time is 8pm but when we got there at 7pm and everyone was already closed up. The restaurants on the top floor really does close around midnight so thats good. Had that pasta made in a cheese wheel. Best eaten warm.

This is an amazing market set over two levels of a square building with an open entrée. There are two galleries that run around the edges which have shops selling jewelry, ceramics, handbags, and other examples of Portuguese cross friendship. The bottom level is dedicated to foods, beverages, flowers, and other produce, including meats, fish, fruits, and vegetables. This is a fantastic building and worthy of a visit.

Cafe
Majestic Café, established in 1921, is a Belle Epoque-era coffee shop located in the Baixa district. It is considered the sixth most beautiful coffee shop globally and has been a traditional hangout for artists, musicians, politicians, and intellectuals. The cafe's ornate interior features carved wood, mirrors, chandeliers, marble walls, gilt-framed mirrors, sculptured cherubs and ornate Art Deco decor.
Such a beautiful cafe restaurant. I love it so much. The inside of cafe is so stunning and it’s more like old Hollywood movies, I feel like I’m in a different world. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Their cafe tastes amazing and also the dessert is so delicious. I just wish they could use AC in hot summer days, but overall everything is perfect and for sure next time when I visit Porto I’ll go to there.

Must see stop in Porto. Interior design is so traditional you feel part of a different era inside. Service is fine and fast. You probably have to wait in line for a table but in my case it was no longer than 20 minutes. The menu has tons of options, tea service and desserts. If you dont want to spend as much money maybe its better to come here in the afternoon for coffee, tea or dessert :). Prices are elevated.

Majestic Café has a great view over Dam Square, making it a great spot to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. The beer is good and reasonably priced, but the food is disappointing and not worth the stop if you’re hungry. Service is fair, nothing special but gets the job done. Best enjoyed for a drink with a view rather than a full meal.

I had dinner at the Majestic Café in Porto. The café is unbelievably gorgeous — both inside and out — and truly worth seeing. Unfortunately, the service was quite disappointing. I ordered a Francesinha, which was just okay, nothing special. The meal was also very expensive for what it was. Overall, I’d recommend visiting the Majestic Café to admire its stunning architecture and atmosphere, but not for the food. It’s perfect for taking pictures, less so for dining.
Murillo P — Google review
came specifically for the vintage look and aesthetic, and it did not disappoint—the vibes are truly nice and cozy. The atmosphere is definitely the main draw here! While I found the prices to be a bit expensive, the service was efficient and prompt even though the café was quite busy. Regarding the food, I personally didn't care for the French Toast, but perhaps that's just a matter of my own taste. Overall, a lovely spot for a coffee break if you appreciate a beautiful, old-school setting

We totally knew what we were getting into with this TOURIST cafe - we knew it would be a wait, and expensive, because of the tourist nature of it. However, that was fine - we were on vacation and it really was quite pretty inside. We actually had a lovely time waiting in line outside in the queue, in fact, chit chatting with other tourists. I think we might have waited about 30 mins on a Sunday late morning. It was a photo oppo for sure, but the food was good too. We only had some tea/coffee and dessert items, but it was served quickly, attractively and friendly and it tasted good. It was a "one and done" for us, but I'm still glad we went for a snack.
C M — Google review
Long waiting line but we eventually had our turn. The French Toast which was highly recommended by the waiter wasn’t really good, somewhat dry, not the french toast that we were expecting. However, the waiter was really really good! His service was spectacular, sadly do not recall his name, but we would like to thank him for being so kind and generous. Overall, the experience was nice, given the old history of the cafe, so you have to tick it off the list as a must visit, at Porto.

Jardins do Palácio de Cristal, located in the heart of Porto, is a picturesque 19th-century garden offering enchanting fountains, meandering paths, and breathtaking views of the Douro River. Originally designed by German landscape architect Emil David as part of the Palacio de Cristal complex, these gardens are a haven for romantic strolls amidst diverse flora and classified trees.
a beautiful park with lots of peacocks running around! its my first time seeing them spreading their wings in such close distance, gorgeous! there are other places where you can get a magnificent view of the city and the river. i will suggest to go early in the morning to avoid the crowd.

The day I visited this Garden they had a book selling event which was amazing! The garden is peaceful and it's attached to the Super Bock arena. There is a great lookout spot and tower with great views of the river. And lots of space to have a picnic or just relax with a book. Lots of birds walking around and they are super friendly. Nice place to take a few hours and relax and take in the view

Lovely big gardens for walking and relaxing. We had to download a pdf map to find out what was there and where different viewpoints were. Has a lot of potential but felt it needed a little TLC in places. Whilst it was heading towards autumn it would benefit from a cafe. There was a place selling the usual ice creams. Beautiful views from the vantage points. Great to see peacocks, hens, cockerels and ducks happily mingling with visitors! Plenty of seating. Looked like preparations were underway for a concert but nothing to say what it was. You can climb the 360 dome if you wish. We didn’t go inside so I cannot comment on the facilities inside. A craft market was on during our Saturday visit. Toilets available.

This is a must see place if you are coming to Porto! The gardens are so big you can easily get lost, and the best thing is each garden leads to another garden. But the best thing about this is the view od Porto. From here you can see the whole city and you can watch one of the most beautiful sunsets in your life! Especially with the view over the bridge. It’s a perfect spot for doing picnics and hanging out with friends outdoors. Also, not as crowded as I expected it to be.
Nikolina K — Google review
What I loved: The gardens offer beautiful panoramic views over the Douro River, the city of Porto and bridge. It’s a relatively calm green space compared to the busier tourist spots of Porto. You’ll likely spot peacocks and other free-roaming birds, which adds charm to the experience and there’s no entrance fee for the gardens proper. What I did not like: The “palace” part (the original glass and iron palace) no longer exists and the building on the site now is a modern arena of "Super Bock". If you’re expecting lush flower-beds everywhere or a manicured botanical garden, you may find it a bit less interesting in these aspects. Aim to spend at least 1–2 hours, but if you relax, picnic or wander all thematic sections, you could easily spend 2–3 hours. The best time to visit is on a clear day around late afternoon for the views over the river and then sunset. Also spring/summer when plants are more in bloom. The garden also has good photo-spots that overlook the river. Im summary, the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal is a very good “green break” stop when in Porto. They don’t have the grandeur of a major royal palace garden, but they offer great views, and a relaxing atmosphere. If you allocate time and go with modest expectations (not expecting overly manicured perfection everywhere), you’ll likely enjoy it. If however, you have a very tight schedule in Porto, you don't lose much by missing it.

Great views. Very clean and safe. You can joy this urban gem and relax with chickens and peacocks. You certainly will like to climb the tower and have a 360° view of the city. There's a lot of gardens there, with fountains and places to rest.

So surprised to see that the entry of my (small) dog 🐶 was refused by security in this beautiful park. Though I strolled my dog with its leash, the only explanation that were given to me when I questioned the surprising rule was that it is to better protect the other animals (ducks and blue peacocks). So here in Porto , there is no part of this huge park that is accessible to dogs which is certainly not understandable. I think that you could amend your policies and allow a minimum playground to be opened for dogs. Thanks for your further consideration.
GILBERT P — Google review
Firstly, don’t get this confused with Palacio da bolsa. Both are very different and at different parts of the city. On google, this place is highly rated. When you get there the initial garden looks very small, however walk further behind the Super Bock dome and you enter a whole new world of gardens and views of Porto. There are a lot of inclines and declines, bear this in mind if you have kids. Some stunning views. It’s absolutely free too. Worth a visit if you’re in the area, but you won’t be missing anything if you don’t. If you’d like to see exclusive airiel views, head over to my YouTube channel : TheEyeInTheSky.

Experience breathtaking views of Ribeira and the Porto wine cellars from the Gaia Cable Car, also known as Teleferico de Gaia. Located on the banks of the Douro River, this attraction provides magnificent daytime scenery and a stunning night view. The upper deck offers Jardim do Morro and Serra do Pilar, perfect for enjoying a sunset overlooking the city. Additionally, Cais de Gaia features various stores, restaurants, and Port wine cellars to visit.
A great way to get from the top of the Luis bridge down to the riverside. One way was 7 euros, round trip was 10 euros. A nice relaxing ride that offered great panoramic views of the city and river. They will also take your picture which I highly recommend buying afterwards! The picture was 10 euros and they place it in a booklet with a ton of information!

Great way to view the sights of both sides of the river from above. Also saves having to walk up to the top! Short queue to get a ticket, then a short wait to get in a cable car. Doesn't take long but there is plenty to see on the way up.
Jamie P — Google review
The Gaia Cable Car is a fantastic way to see Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia from above. It also makes it easy to reach the higher parts of the city without much effort. The ticket price was fair, and I only waited about five minutes before getting on. Tickets can be conveniently purchased from a vending machine. The entire ride lasts around 10 minutes and offers wonderful panoramic views of the city and the Douro River.

The cable car ride in Porto was a wonderful experience. The journey is interesting and absolutely worth it, offering beautiful views over the city. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even more enjoyable. Definitely recommend

This was a fun ride. We went up from the river to the top by the upper pont Luis bridge. It wasn’t super long, and to tell you the truth, I don’t mind walking up that way, but it was fun to do and also see the sights along the way.
Peggy C — Google review
Nice views. It costs 7 eur one way and 10 eur round-trip. Porto City card gives a 10% discount, which makes the round trip really worth-it :)
Brigita B — Google review
Great experience! We bought the round-trip ticket (bilhete ida e volta), and the ride was smooth and enjoyable. The views over Gaia and Porto were really beautiful—definitely worth it!
Laura Č — Google review
Used the cable car primarily as a fast track to the monastery on a hot day as didn’t fancy an uphill walk in the significant heat. We didn’t need to purchase tickets in advance and managed to buy them quickly, boarding soon after. The trip lasted a few minutes and offered a good view of Porto. The price was a bit on the steep side though at €7 per adult single or €10 return. We opted for a one way trip. We considered using the service the next day from the top to the bottom but another €7 seemed totally unreasonable. We noticed that most return cars were empty compared with those heading up. Can’t help thinking that the owners are missing a trick here as people are more likely to accept walking down than paying such a high price.

Pastry shop
Padaria Ribeiro, one of the oldest bakeries in Porto with a 146-year history, is renowned for its delectable croissants and pastries. The bakery's signature amanteigado croissant undergoes a slow leavening process and is finished with a sugar syrup while still warm, creating an irresistibly sweet treat.
This is my absolute favorite bakery. Everything I get is so delicious. I can’t say it’s the most affordable place but it’s definitely well worth it. Especially the carrot cake is incredible. I would get it every single day if it fit my budget just a bit more. 10/10
Müge Ö — Google review
Recommend the bakery, not so much the cafe. If you want to eat there, do not make the mistake of ordering from the cafe menu they give you! (Limited options, cold and unappealing pastries). Instead, take a picture of the pastry you want from the bakery and show it to the waiter. I didn’t realize they had this option until I overheard a staff member telling another customer :(
Edlyn P — Google review
Bakery with many options! We ordered a variety of the pastries to eat in. Weirdly none of the savoury pastries are heated up, so everything was cold and honestly not very good. The carrot / ginger cake and chocolate cake were the best things we got. Might be better to order as a takeaway to heat up at home.
KDD — Google review
unfortunately highly would not recommend the mango smoothie. it was 4.40€, but it was extremely bland and did not have any milk or cream (isn’t that what a smoothie means?). it tasted like a little bit of mango and a lot of water. pastel de nata was just ok, can get better elsewhere

Really good place. It is busy all the time... so may you have to wait a bit, but it's worthy. You have to try éclair there. I love it. Prices are reasonable

Friendly staff and nice terrace, the only con was that the pastries were all cold when the salty ones that we chose were supposed to be at least quite warm

Dom Luís is a charming city located along the Douro River, divided by the magnificent iron bridge of the same name. It's famous for being home to big Porto wine producers offering a variety of versions such as White, Ruby, Tawny, Tawny Aged, Colheita, LBV (Late Bottled Vintage), and Vintage. The UNESCO World Heritage Ribeira harbor area is a popular spot filled with restaurants and bars that offer delicious seafood prepared using traditional Portuguese recipes.
Absolutely delicious meal. Started with mixed salad - dressed to perfection with olive and vinegar. For dinner, my husband got chopped in the oven, which was basically two pork chops that are sautéed, and then served over rice, could not have been more delicious. We also got codfish bras, which was bacalao cod, basically a salted cod over potatoes and onion s with a light cream sauce. Excellent. We also had a yummy crème brûlée for dessert with the custard was more reminiscent of the famous pastel nais. Very affordable with great flavor and good portion size.

Hidden gem! Awesome restaurant, although it lacks outside seating which causes that it is mostly empty in summer. Great waiter, delicious food, especially bacalhau com natas and costeletas no forno, and a good price-quality ratio!
Florian S — Google review
In the crowded Cais de Gaia, we found this restaurant where we could enjoy a peaceful lunch. We ordered oven-roasted pork loin, but what was actually served turned out even better: it was a piece of pork neck (Boston butt), much juicier and less dry. Perfectly crisp on the outside, tender and full of flavour on the inside. The roasted potatoes were also excellent. We finished with a 100% homemade crème brûlée, still warm. Very attentive service, and the price was very reasonable. Highly recommended!

An absolute gem of a place. One of the best meals I’ve enjoyed in Porto. Food was absolutely delightful. Service was excellent- with amazing recommendations. Restaurant is clean, silverware and crockery are of good quality. Oh, and I have to add- the linen smells INCREDIBLE. very thoughtful service throughout. Above all, the food was the main highlight. Nice ambience and atmosphere. They never asked for a review but they deserve these 5 stars! Thank you!

The restaurant does not have an outdoor sitting area, so it may appear less attended than its surrounding competitor, but do not let this fool you. Walk into the restaurant and you will find a real gem. (I recommend rice with sea food).

Maus Hábitos, also known as Bad Habits, is a multifaceted establishment that encompasses a restaurant, bar, art gallery, concert venue, and cultural center. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted with an urban ambiance and unconventional entrance via an elevator or four flights of stairs through a car park. However, the effort is rewarded with open sky terraces offering a bustling cultural scene. The venue hosts various events and features a permanent art gallery.
Really cool spot with a great view. Was a bit confused about entering/exiting/paying. There was a lot of staff but not a lot of direction. But the food and the vibe in the outside deck was incredible. Really enjoyed my pizza. The flavors were spot on. Absolutely outstanding in all criteria. Well balanced dishes, beautifully described and presented. Unique flavour combos, creativity and passion on display. Not pretentious at all, friendly and warm team. We took the local wine pairing which was a great learning experience made even better by the charm and knowledge of the brilliant and engaging sommelier. A must-visit. Out of 100's of superb restaurant experiences all over the world, this ranks very very near the top.

Amazing! This place should be two Michelin stars. Incredible service and astounding flavors in the dishes. There was only one dish that was a skip for me. Every other dish was great, and five to six were world class. They also gave an additional 3 dishes on top of the 10 dish menu for 160€. If you are looking for a memorable Michelin star restaurant in Portugal that is good value for the price, go here.

Seating at the chefs table was an amazing dining experience. With each dish a different memeber of the team would arrive to serve us and talking to them was so interesting and insightful, really added a whole new layer of value. The food, prepared before your eyes, was wonderful. The sommelier gave us excellent wine pairings. Definitely not an experience to miss out on

Amazing, phenomenal tasting experience! 3 Star level innovation, excellent presentation. No tricks or gimmicks, just good flavors with traditional ingredients. Creative but not overtly experimental. Highly recommend the Portuguese wine pairing, (and we usually avoid pairings because we're picky snobs) One of the top restaurants - better than any in New York, London or Mexico City. Absolutely better than Bel Canto (no competition). Come now before their rating is upgraded and you can't afford it :)

Every single thing about this restaurant is amazing. The attentiveness of the staff, the mastery and artistry of the chefs, and the overall ambience were all top-notch. I made a late reservation so I hade to go on the waiting list, but was lucky enough to have the restaurant reach out with an open seat. I’m very happy they did because it was a very memorable experience. If you can make a reservation do so. And if not, take a chance and go on the guest list. Whatever you do, find time to experience Euskalduna! Chef Vasco is one of a kind!

If I could give a 100 stars I would! I had my 40th birthday dinner here with my best mates in August when we were visiting Portugal. I’d read the reviews and was excited to try this place out. Boy of boy was I wowed. Firstly the restaurant atmosphere is so welcoming and warm. The staff are BEYOND amazing - I think we met every member of the restaurant as they served us dishes and just explained everything so phenomenally. The sommelier was incredible at recommending wines for us. And Chef Vasco coming to our table, serving us, chatting to us, giving us great recommendations and even clearing our plates was something I’ve never experienced in Michelin star restaurant. Every dish was unified, unique and so memorable- I was blown away and I’m so glad to have had this experience. Do not hesitate to book - you will not be disappointed. Thank you Chef Vasco & team for your love, care and thoughtfulness in curating such a wonderful experience - one of the best meals I’ve had. Pls let us know when you open your restaurant in Sydney!!!

The FC Porto Museum, also known as the FC Porto Museum by BMG, is a cutting-edge soccer museum located at Estadio do Dragao in Porto, Portugal. The museum features multimedia displays, interactive panels, an impressive trophies room, and real-size models of famous players for visitors to enjoy.
Visited the museum recently and it did not disappoint. The museum like the stadium is very beautiful and very well prepared. It starts with multiple statues of the founding fathers and players of the Easter years. There is a lot of light and projection to highlight the events. It traces the history of the club very well along with all its champions wins. Got to learn a lot about this historic club.

Nice museum with a lot of old artifacts from the very day Porto FC was founded. I’m no particular football interested person myself, but enjoyed the tour of the stadium (unfortunately you don’t get to visit the Porto team locker room but the visiting team one) and especially the museum together with my youngest. You can easily spend 1-2 hours here.
Niels B — Google review
This place was amazing! My only regret is we didn't give it enough time in our schedule. So my advice, the Studium tour you can probably do in 45 minutes. The museum requires at least 1.5 hours to properly appreciate all that's on offer. I suggest dedicating at least 2.5-3.5 hours to get your money's worth. I would recommend the audio guide for both parts but especially for the stadium tour. We had to forgoe it for the museum because we were running late for our next event. They offer some professional photos. Individual ones are expensive but the package is reasonable. You can take your own photos in some areas but not others. Definitely recommend. Would visit again even though I'm not specifically a football fan. Give the visit a minimum of 2.5 hours excluding the merchandise shop 😂.

The trip started with the tour around the stadium and it lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes. You can see the stadium, press room, changing room, etc. Nothing special. After that you can visit the museum with the same ticket (costs 25 eur for adults and 10 eur for children). Here, it is more interesting and many things to explore. Highly recommended.
PHONG D — Google review
This is my third visit to the FC Porto Museum since it opened, and it never disappoints. The stadium tour, in particular, has improved significantly. Without a guide, you have the freedom to explore at your own pace, pause to rest whenever you like, and take as many photos as you want. Experiencing the stadium grounds in such a relaxed setting is truly unique. The museum itself is absolutely incredible. I got goosebumps, especially in the trophy room. The production quality is outstanding, easily one of the best, if not the best, museums in Portugal. My only suggestion would be to update the final film shown in the big cinema room before the exit. It has been the same one for as long as I can remember and, aside from the impressive graphics, it does not really focus on the team. It would be amazing to see a showcase of FC Porto's greatest moments instead.

We visited the FC Porto stadium and museum and were genuinely surprised by how impressive the experience was. We hadn’t expected the museum to be so large, modern, and detailed, it far exceeded our expectations. We opted for the museum pass combined with the stadium tour, and both parts were extensive and very well organized. The tour goes far beyond just walking through the stadium, you also get to explore important interior spaces like the locker rooms, press area, and more, giving you a full behind-the-scenes experience. Even though I’m not a football fan myself, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The combination of history, multimedia, trophies, and architecture makes it an engaging visit for everyone, highly recommended.

Miradouro da Vitória is a charming historic square in Porto that offers a unique romantic experience with its picturesque views of the cityscape, river Douro, and terracotta rooftops. Despite the surrounding abandoned buildings, it is considered one of the best spots to witness a stunning sunset in Portugal.
The other day I had an expensive, yet rather weird history walking tour guide. The tour ended here, and he warned me, so I had to come back. His “Warning” was about this being a hippie place (it is!), with folks smoking (they do!). What he didn’t warn me about: Great pubs, Brazilian music, people dancing in the square, and, of course, the scenic sunset.

Miradouro da Vitória offers a beautiful panoramic view of Porto. Just next to the viewpoint, there’s a historical church that was once attacked with a cannonball. After renovations, a replica of the cannonball was placed on the building as a tribute, adding a unique historical touch to the visit.

Miradouro da Vitória is a true hidden gem in Porto! The view is absolutely breathtaking, offering a wide panorama over the city’s rooftops, the Douro River, and the iconic bridges. It’s less crowded than other viewpoints, which makes it feel peaceful and authentic, a perfect spot to enjoy the sunset or simply take in the beauty of Porto from above. The walk up is worth it, and once there you can really appreciate the charm of the city from a different perspective. A must-visit if you love scenic views, photography, or just want a quiet escape to admire Porto’s magic. 🌇

Great place to take picture, the view is simply stunning, allowing you to see the river, bridge and cathedral. When it is sunny, the reflection on the water makes it for some amazing. Depending on the day it might be a bit crowded, so keep that in mind as it might become challenging to take good pictures. All in all I recommend giving a look while being around. It is not too far from the cathedral and the Luis I bridge so it is worth a quick detour, especially if you are already nearby visiting the city and/or attractions

A simple but beautiful viewpoint offering great views over Porto’s rooftops, the Douro River, and the Dom Luís I Bridge. It’s not as fancy or crowded as other miradouros, which makes it a nice quiet spot to relax and take photos. The place is a bit worn down, but the view is totally worth it — especially at sunset.
Marta A — Google review
A beautiful viewpoint offering sweeping views over Funchal and the Atlantic Ocean. Miradouro da Vitória is peaceful, with charming gardens and benches to relax while taking in the scenery. Perfect for photography or a quiet moment, it’s a hidden gem that captures the city’s charm from above.
Dani B — Google review
⚠️ WARNING: Really dangerous! The “railing” is just a very low, crumbling stone lip (wall) - knee-high at best - and the ground has large loose stones you can easily trip over while taking photos. From the edge it’s a steep drop of roughly 7-9 meters (2–3 storeys) onto hard surfaces, with no proper barrier or signage. Treat it like an unfenced cliff: go only in daylight and dry conditions, keep well back from the edge, and don’t sit/lean on the wall—especially with kids. The view is great, but the risk is real!
Julian — Google review
Absolutely stunning place to observe the sunset but it needs to be fixed and cleaned properly to fully enjoyed it.

Specialty Museums
The World of Discoveries in Porto is a captivating museum that offers an immersive experience into the history of early Portuguese navigators. It's highly recommended for families, with interactive exhibits, characters in ancient costumes, and even a boat ride. Purchasing tickets online is advised for cost savings. The museum brings to life the perilous voyages of 15th-century Portuguese explorers through detailed exhibitions and animations.
Pretty great place to visit with little ones. A fun little museum experience at the beginning and then you walk through what looks like an inside of a ship. The highlight is a 20 min little boat ride that takes you on a journey of how the Portugese explored the world. My 4 year old loved it so much. The ticket is a little pricey but it's worth a visit.
Hestia — Google review
The world of discoveries showcases the portuguese explorers and their journey during the days for colonizing different places and starting trade routes from Asia and Africa to Europe. They have a beautiful collection of boats used and the maps of the old world. They have a boat ride which takes you to different places they went, but the only downside was that their audio speakers were not working which was supposed to tell you about different places as the boat takes you there. The staff there is also very friendly and helpful.

Awesome experience available in every language. We had the german walkthrough. The history of Portugal in a really easy to understand way and with the inhouse water river experience it's a great go-to if you are in Porto. Learned some new things evem after 10 years in Portugal on a regular basis.

This Museum blew us away — we didn’t expect it at all. The tour lasts about an hour. In the first part of the Nuseum, we were thrilled by the interactive globes and the very dynamic history of cartography. In the second part, we had no idea that we would be riding a boat for 22 minutes through a series of rooms, each representing a part of Portugal’s history of discoveries since the 15th century (as they carefully call it “our contacts with other civilizations”). That boat ride is more geared towards children, but you can clearly see the great effort that went into it. It’s also an unexpectedly large space. The entire Museum is highly recommended, specially for kids but it was really great fun for us adults, too.

We visited as part of a cruise port call. We had booked a time slot but got there 39 min early but were still allowed entry. This was helpful as I had hungry kids and the next stop was lunch. My advice is to go after a meal so you don't need to rush through 😂. The first part shows different artefacts and snippets of information about them. I would have spent more time there but my kids wanted to go on the boat. I think you could easily do 30-45 min here if you're not skimping through. The boat ride which shows the different continents and people the Portuguese explorers met was the highlight! The narration is good and offered in various languages. The scenes are very well made and quite realistic. I personally enjoyed this and would recommend it but just follow my tips on not visiting on an empty stomach so you can go at a more leisurely pace especially with kids!

A really cool tourist attraction that was better than we thought. Educational and entertaining! We loved our visit so much I made a video and put it on you tube. You can check it out by searching for 'world of discoveries' to see what it's like. Enjoy!

It was cool with the boat ride, although we got a German narrative, even when I asked for an English. The rest of the exhibition was a bit meh.
Jacob N — Google review
Amazing place. It looks so small from the outside but is huge inside. You even get to do a 40min boat ride, passing life-like displays of the cultures the Portuguese discovered. Some figures look so real, you expect them to move. A real treat and great alternative to boring display museums. Highly recommend.

Mercado Beira-Rio is a popular food market located in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. It offers a magnificent night view and wonderful daytime scenery. The market is known for its authentic Portuguese food and lovely Italian restaurant, making it a hub for Port wine enthusiasts. Visitors can also enjoy the glasshouse restaurant by the Douro River and indulge in wine tasting at Quevedo Lodge nearby.
This isn't really a market but a food court. They offer a great selection of different little restaurants with a big selection of Portugese food. We went for the seafood selection and got some oysters and octopus. Only downside is, that it is a little crowded and doesn't offer enough seating. The food was really good and we enjoyed it in combination with some wine from the region. You should check out this place !

A great spot to try different local food and beer. The atmosphere is festive, but due to the crowd, it can feel a bit stuffy. On the right side, you’ll find a stand with delicious fresh fruit and juices run by two lovely older ladies.

The food was excellent, reasonable, and very tasty. Such a lively local food court with freshly-made food. There are tables inside and outside. You order, pay, and take your food to your seats. Very good place to have lunch.

Pretty size-able food court right hr along the strip. I was staying at the Hilton so just a 5 minute walk away. I found this on google maps and though I’ve walked by several times before, I couldn’t really tell it was an eatery from the outside. Tons of selections as well as beer and wine stands. Super clean and modern layout made for a comfortable and moderately priced meals.

I recently visited Beira Rio and had a really nice experience overall. I ordered a pizza, and it turned out to be delicious — freshly made, well-cooked, and served in a good portion size, definitely worth the price. What I really appreciated was the variety of vegetarian options available on the menu, which is quite impressive and makes it a great place for vegetarians as well. It’s not always easy to find restaurants with such a balanced mix of options, so that was definitely a plus point. The location of Beira Rio adds to its charm. It’s beautifully situated, offering a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere that makes it a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy good food. The ambiance is modern yet cozy, making it ideal for both casual meals and small gatherings. Another thing I noticed and liked was that the staff and people around communicate well in English, which makes it comfortable and convenient, especially for visitors. Overall, Beira Rio is a great place for food lovers, especially those who enjoy quality vegetarian options and a peaceful dining environment. With good food, friendly service, and a wonderful location, it’s definitely a place I’d love to visit again.

Cozinha das Flores is an exceptional restaurant that offers a remarkable dining experience. The staff, atmosphere, food, and wine are all top-notch and can rival any Michelin-starred restaurant in the world. Even without a reservation, the beautiful interior compelled diners to change their plans on the spot. The signature dish, turnip natas with caviar, is known for its sheer extravagance.
This place was such a random find! Just happen to walk in and we were so pleasantly surprised. The ambience, the food, the wine, service everything was just perfect! We relished every bite of our meal. And watching the chefs at work was a bonus. Highly recommend this restaurant!!

Enjoyable dinner overall. The bite size starter dishes (I tried three) were creative and interesting, though missed the mark slightly on flavour — more conceptually clever than delicious. I had the John Dory for my main, which was good, but I definitely had food envy when I saw the beef fillet being served nearby — I’d recommend going for that instead! Service was warm, although I was forgotten about at the end and could have walked without paying (I didn’t!). Still, staff were friendly and the space was immaculate, with great attention to detail in the food. Worth a visit. Bill €130 1 person / 3 courses & 2 drinks

Amazing restaurant in the heart of Porto. The dishes are all amazingly tasteful, with different and unexpected combinations. The room is lively, with an open view to the kitchen and dishes being prepared in the moment by the chefs. Would definitely recommend and will come back for another wonderful experience.

We had our best meal in Porto here! The ambience was warm and lovely. The dishes were top quality, a rendition of refined local cuisine. We loved that each dish was carefully and thoughtfully explained to us. To top it off, Pamela attended to us in such a friendly and helpful manner. We felt very welcome thanks to her. Can’t wait to visit when we are back and definitely would recommend dining here!

Every once in a while, you come across a restaurant that truly blows your socks off—and this was one of those experiences. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was exceptional without being intrusive. We both ordered the filet, and it was absolutely outstanding—perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. Every bite melted in the mouth, easily one of the best steaks we’ve ever had. The sides complemented the dish beautifully, and the presentation was elegant. It was a dining experience we won’t soon forget, and we’ll definitely be returning.
Jack C — Google review
Hands down my favorite restaurant. The consistently delicious food and outstanding service are what keep me coming back. The ambiance is warm and stylish, and I love being able to see into the kitchen and watch the chefs at work. It adds something special to the entire experience. We always start with a few of the snack dishes. The spider crab donuts are a must — light, flavorful, and the perfect way to begin the meal. We like to explore the other snacks too, and one standout has been the crispy laminated dough with cockles, which bursts with flavor and texture. For starters, the smoked squid from the Azores with chickpeas is always a favorite. It’s rich, perfectly cooked, and full of depth. The asparagus options tend to be lighter and refreshing, offering a nice contrast to the bolder flavors. When it comes to main dishes, the John Dory and grilled beef fillet are both beautifully prepared and reliably excellent. That said, I find myself returning to the wild blue fish and pork shoulder steak. They’re both unique, flavorful, and absolutely worth trying. If you’re dining with a group, the tomato and blue lobster rice is a fantastic shared dish — generous and deeply satisfying. Dessert is not to be missed. The Milk dessert is one of the most creative I’ve had. It captures the essence of sweet milk in multiple forms, and it’s delicate, not overly sweet. On our latest visit, we also tried the cherry stone ice cream. The cherries had just the right amount of tartness, making it a refreshing and memorable way to end the meal. Some items change with the seasons, but the menu is always balanced and full of inspired choices. We love bringing friends and family here because we know they’ll experience the same incredible food and service we always do.

A must-go in Porto! We really enjoyed all about Cozinha das Flores: The staff is super friendly with a high standard of hospitality. The food is excellent and has a broad palette of flavors. The chef has so much attention for every dish. The wine advice was perfect, all Portugese wines that matched the dishes. It was a treat and we felt very welcome. All in all an unforgettable experience, we will definitely be back!

We had a really great dinner experience! The food and wine were superb and so was the service. The food was original and tasty but not overcomplicated. Thr restaurant has a very high quality finish and despite sitting next to the kitchen, we didn't smell of food and it wasn't laud. It was probably one of our highlights when visitng Porto and will come back when we visit again.

Nestled along the picturesque Douro River, Ar de Rio is a must-visit culinary gem in Porto. This charming glasshouse restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, allowing diners to soak in breathtaking views of Ribeira and the historic old town. Known for its delectable Polvo a Lagareiro—tender octopus paired with golden potatoes and fragrant olive oil—Ar de Rio serves up an authentic taste of Portuguese cuisine that will leave your taste buds dancing.
What a way to start my visit to Porto! This is a fantastic finding! We just walked into a magnificent place with a breathtaking view, fantastic menu, and fabulous food. The staff is so friendly and helpful. We had help choosing what we had, and it was spot on. There was no room for dessert, but I'm definitely going back before I leave. No need to reserve a table. Incredible value for money.

Location is the only advantage of the venue. Food is just awful, comparable with fast food quality. We ordered cod the Braga style and the prawns spaghetti and were disappointed big time. Good white wine (see pic) did not make the overall picture much better. Worth noting the “restaurant” is in a regular container, nothing fancy at all. Service: sort of “enforced friendly”, the guy who let us into the dining room hates his job. Find something else.

I'm glad to eat some great food with an amazing view. Pepsi products for soda, so I ordered pineapple nectar. Ordered two Feancesinha plates (traditional and with shrimp). Both were delicious, but the Sevilhana (with shrimp) had a small portion of shrimp.

When I visited Portugal some time ago, I had the worst experience of my life at this restaurant. It was the first time I had ever experienced racism, and I was so shocked that I was depressed for a day. Even now, I don't have a good impression of Portugal. Lisbon is diverse, but in a rural area like Porto, this may be unavoidable. The staff were of poor quality.

Wasn't expecting much, but we had a fantastic meal. So good, that in our 3 nights spent in the Porto area we ate here twice! The second night we had steak and honestly, it was the best I've had in Portugal. Tender as.... highly recommended and the staff were amazing. Despite being a place I'd usually avoid, as looks very tourist-invented, there were lots of locals dining also, and the views were out of this world. Thank you

Nice view. The waiters were pressing us to order when the menu is in a language we can't understand. The French fries were disappointing, hard to chew. The meat was hard as well. I understand why it was empty, I don't recommend this place

Taberna Santo António is a charming, rustic restaurant located in Porto, specifically at Passeio das Virtudes. Run by the welcoming couple Mr. Vitor and Mrs. Herminia, this family-owned eatery offers a cozy atmosphere where everyone is treated like family. The menu features mouth-watering Portuguese comfort food such as bifana, a delightful combination of tender pork meat and flavorful beer-based sauce in a soft traditional bun.
Decided on this booking through trip advisor Definitely book in advance as it fills very quickly. Small quirky Portuguese bistro with authentic Portuguese cuisine We went for the pork belly and pork cheek with rice and potato’s that was divine and so tender to cut Desert was the chocolate mousse that definitely didn’t disappoint This paired with a few cold superbocks marked the perfect start to a Saturday evening. Will definitely recommend to anyone who decides to holiday in Porto

After reading all the positive reviews and judging by the queue to get in, I had quite high expectations. It turned out to be ‘ok’ but I wouldn’t rave about it. We visited for lunch and at a busy time which probably had an effect as service was pretty slow and I didn’t think the food was anything special. Reasonably priced to be fair. My daughter had the sardines and rice in tomato sauce, I had the pork in breadcrumbs layered with cheese, fried egg and curry sauce. Best part was the crème brûlée. Fries were quite greasy…nice atmosphere and friendly staff but probably not one I’d queue and wait for again.

A cozy tavern with a real homey atmosphere. If you come with a group, it’s best to book a table in advance, but if you’re alone, there’s always a spot at the lively bar. The food is amazing – the meat was so tender it literally fell off the bone. Desserts were also excellent, especially the chocolate mousse and crème brûlée. The staff work very quickly, and the manager, who speaks five languages, makes the atmosphere even more welcoming. Definitely recommend this place!

absolutely great experience. The atmosphere, the place and the most important - the food were fantastic! we ordered 3 dishes and we didn't expect that they will be so big! Real Portuguese food, fresh ingredients and very good prices! I recommend for 100 %, especially the meat stew with beans. This lunch made our day and the full impression of local food. Thanks for your work guys!

We had heard great things about this restaurant, so we decided to give it a try! The food was good, though quite heavy with very large portions. It might just be that we didn’t choose the best dishes for the season—on a very hot summer day, the stew-based menu felt a bit too rich, and we couldn’t finish our plates. Service was friendly and efficient, and we definitely recommend booking a table in advance.

The roasted ham shank was good, so is the pig cheek in red wine. A cozy little restaurant with good food and atmosphere. I however didn't like the creme brulee, it could be better, but just my opinion.

The foods are worth recommending. But!!, be careful of the 6 shady bacalhau croquettes at the beginning, they are not free. We said we don’t eat them and please take them away, but in the end they are still in the receipt. After complaining, they are gone, but the behavior remains very shady.

What a fabulous venue. So atmospheric with views overlooking the river. The attention to detail was fantastic. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly and attentive and even allowed us to move half way through the meal when a terrace table became available. An unforgettable evening all round.

My wife and I enjoyed a very memorable lunch at Vinum earlier this month. We were immediately impressed with the elegant dining room that provided beautiful views of the Douro river and Porto beyond. We selected the "Traditional" menu with the matching wines option, and we were not disappointed. Each dish was beautifully prepared, presented, and matched with a wine that complimented the food perfectly. Service was friendly, polite, and professional. Our visit to Vinum was a highlight of our trip to Portugal and we'd love to return if we have the opportunity.

After visiting Graham's cellars, we had dinner at their onsite restaurant Vinum. We got a nice table on the terrace overlooking Porto bay. We shared a beef carpaccio ("coca" de rosbife) and had the Duck magret with brioche and foie gras. To finish we had a selection of cheese with 2 glasses of Six Grapes port. The food was very well presented and delicious. Service was very professional. An overall excellent experience!

Let me start like this. Considering the price (around 75 euros per person) it will not live to your expectations. Other than that, presentation of the food is gorgeous, view is breathtaking and service is done in a way that people is there to agree with you (not exactly good this last one)... However, at this price tag, specially in Portugal, I expect I much more refined taste, service and experience. Bolinhos, olive oil and bread were great but mains were just non memorable. Pudim dessert was also a great finish to share (dont do it by yourself, sugar high). Good to bring someone there for a view-like experience.

Incredible restaurant. Food was world class, perfect blend of flavors and quality. Service was exceptional, they were friendly, knowledge and extremely attentive. The views from the restaurant were spectacular and the actual location was beautiful with the patio, port cast room and even the patio which we couldn't use due to the cold.

This restaurant offers more than just a meal — it’s an experience. The location is absolutely spectacular, so make sure to arrive early to enjoy the full show: from the warm, shifting tones of the sunset to the glittering skyline as night falls. The staff is attentive, friendly, and strikes the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth. Each dish is a feast for the eyes — colorful, artfully plated, and full of unexpected flavors. The sauces deserve a special mention: they are never just decorative, but thoughtfully crafted to complement the dish — whether adding sweetness to balance saltiness, a touch of acidity, or an aromatic note that lifts the whole plate. We chose to focus on seafood, and it was nothing short of impressive — fresh, creative, and full of personality. The wine list is… adequate. But to be fair, we are Italian, and we’ve been spoiled by our wine culture. Portugal, you’re well on your way — keep going! Overall, a truly exceptional dining experience. Highly recommended.

We had an incredible experience from reservation, to check in to service to the meal! We had a beautiful private table. The attention to detail and service, presentation was spectacular. Highly recommend if you also want to experience the wine tour which we did as well. If you don’t have a lot of time in Porto, I would book the Vin restaurant and the wine tour. The walk to the venue wasn’t that bad! We enjoyed the quiet hilly streets. The walk back helped digest our fulfilling meal and wine tour. Highly recommend for an all in one experience. The view from the top was simply beautiful.

This is a very nice mall with easy access from bus stops and parking. It has all the basic stores and many independent stores. It's very clean. The several times I have been here it has not been overly congested. There are two very interesting features that were exciting for me. The first was a well-kept and well designed bowling alley. The second was a food court that hacks access to a porch overlooking the Douro River. The view is quite spectacular. It is worth a visit.

It's a nice mall, but currently (fall 2025) undergoing done minor renovations. Many ceilings are affected, but the mall is still totally accessible. For us, tourists who stayed close to the mall, the best part was the food court. It's a very good food court.

I don’t know much about the mall, it’s a bit outdated and needs an interior overhaul… But this poor review is mostly down to the mall having and implementing a standard of business and service expectation within the malls acceptance of is tenants. Referring specifically here to the poor delivery of product and service from the newly refurbished Bowling Alley and Games zone. You can read mine and many many other peoples review there in this regard but you should be forcing closure of that area until that business is ready to perform as a fair and functioning service with a team and product that represents your malls written standards, if they exist.

There are 8 (height) Daytona USA (1994) arcade machines, in the arcade game part of the bowling alley. They're not all in great shape but it was amazing to come across these! I'm a fan Daytona USA! I like to go to Jumbo to see some stuffs that might be on discount like miceral waters, cheese, or any other things. 7. The place is fancy, cozy, and well-maintained. 8. Free toilet. 9. Shopping mall
Business center
GaiaShopping, established in 1995, is a spacious and inviting shopping destination featuring a diverse range of brand-name retailers, dining options, entertainment facilities like a multiplex cinema and kids' play area. Strategically located with easy access, the mall boasts 161 stores along with a food court and free parking. It's the largest shopping mall in Vila Nova de Gaia and offers convenient transportation options including bus stops nearby.
Lots of shops, great food court, public transport outside, free parking

It's not that there's anything wrong with it, but there's nothing special about it either. If you live in Gaia and need something then it's fine, as a tourist it's not really worth the visit.

Always nice to see natural flowers on a shopping mall.

Needs modernisation, especially the ghastly exterior architecture, but has most things you need including one of the best refurbished Continentes in Porto for its large size and range.
Darren S — Google review
Yep, it's a nice shopping center. Quite large. You have all the famous brands...
Abdul K — Google review
An intermediate-size mall, rather on the bigger side for malls in Porto. Mainly women's clothing and accessories but also electric appliances a movie theater and a generic food court. Next to the mall is a large continente hypermarket for food etc. I spotted a Decathlon sportswear shop nearby too

Awesome mall. Better than the one in my neck of the woods

Gaia Shopping is the biggest shopping mall in Vila Nova de Gaia. There is a bus stop next to the shopping mall. You can go here by bus, uber, or your own vehicles. The mall has a big wide free parking lot for their clients. It might be difficult to find parking during the weekend or holidays. There are many shops inside of it, for example Continente, Worten, Sport Zone, Zara, Berskha, Mango, food court, NOS Cinemas, and many more. Free wifi is accessible inside the shopping mall. The entrance and the parking is accessible for wheelchairs. The mall is big and clean.

Caves Cálem is one of the most iconic places to deepen your knowledge about Port wine. Visitors can experience high-quality wines and gain a better understanding of why Port wine has such a special legacy. The interactive museum offers innovative 5D cinema sessions, providing an in-depth exploration of the Douro region and Port wine, from terroir to grape varieties and different styles.
A very enjoyable experience in Porto. We booked the visit through GetYourGuide, but you can also reserve directly at the location. The winery is in a great spot—right across from the Douro River and in a lovely, walkable area. The tour started on time with a small group, which made the experience more personal and comfortable. Our guide was very attentive, explaining the history of Cálem, the production process, and the different types of Port wine with clarity and friendliness. We visited the interactive museum, which is modern and well-designed, and finished with a tasting of three different wines, all excellent. The place is clean, pleasant, and well-organized. Definitely worth it if you’re in Porto and want to learn more about the region’s famous wine.

Really enjoyed our tour around here, very informative and friendly guide who made everything really interesting, was great to walk between the maturing port and see (and smell!) the history. Tasting itself was pretty good too - we went for the exclusive, so three types, all with generous measures! Well stocked shop at reasonable prices too
Jamie P — Google review
For context, the reason we chose this place was mainly due to the fact that of our 6 days in Portugal we only had 2 in Porto, and only 1.5 really in Porto considering that half a day was dedicated to Guimaraes.... Given these time constraints we found this place attractive as it was the only place in our research that gave you a winery tour along with a fado show at the end and both of those had good reviews. So we thought, well, why not, let's kill two birds with one stone and it turned out to be a brilliant decision! We booked them online and the overall winery tour >> wine tasting + fado experience takes about 1.5 hours. They begin with the tour (multiple languages available, we chose english) around 6.30 PM where our guide explained to us what distinguishes Port wine from other wines (both within Iberia and elsewhere) and why the soil and climate of the Douro valley make it ideal for Port wine cultivation. She also explained many minutiae about Portugese wine growing culture around Port wine and how it's more family business run and smaller scale than the industrial grade spanish wine growing culture. She threw around tidbits of cork also but honestly the best thing she told me was that there existed the notion of "Port and tonic" which is like "gin and tonic" but with Port wine instead and I can't believe I didn't know that from earlier research because boy it was delicious and "Port & tonic" IMO is the ONLY way to have Port wine... I dare you to change my mind....!! Anyway they took us through their winery, they showed all the barrels of different sizes and explain the significance of them... It's quite an exhaustive tour at the end of which your fado show is combined with the wine tasting experience... So for the wine tasting, they have us each a glass of the fine white and a 10 year aged tawny port red. You know how they say the best compliment that food can get is that the person eating just shuts up and eats it all up, I believe the finest compliment a wine tasting can get is if the taster ends up buying the wines they tasted and you can see now that those 2 bottles accompanied me in an 11 hour indirect flight to India, and now sit in my collection :) The Fado show was brilliant too, definitely the piece de resistance of the tour when paired with the wine tasting..... The performers were very talented and energetic and the atmosphere felt cosy enough for one to connect with the performers while admittedly not being a very small venue.... So if you want a fado where there is a very limited audience maybe this isn't the place for you.... We really enjoyed this experience though On the whole from the vibe of the place, to the staff, to the collection and killing 2 birds with one stone, I've no regrets and do recommend this place to folks who may want a similarly clubbed experience

Wonderful Tour With Great Insights We thoroughly enjoyed our visit — our guide was knowledgeable, welcoming, and made every stage of the tour genuinely engaging. Walking through the ageing port cellars was a real highlight, complete with the sights (and smells!) of history in the making. We opted for the exclusive tasting, which offered three varieties of port served in generous measures and felt well worth the upgrade. The on-site shop was also nicely stocked with reasonably priced options. All in all, a great experience that I’d definitely recommend!

Good winery experience. The guide was very informative and helpful. The wine tasting had one white port & red port, each with good notes and flavor, and came with crackers. The front row seat was amazing :) I had a nice view of the fado performance, and enjoyed it very much.

An amazing & well designed mix of technology combined with traditional wine processes all setup within cool caves. An interesting & engaging environment, combined with a professional, easy to understand & great visual presentation of all you want & need to know. With enjoyable tasting offerings culminating in a great tasting experience. Love your work!

Nice self guided introduction of winery before we met up with the actual tour guide who Gave an excellent history of port and the cellars. Completing the tour with our selected package of 2 Port wines tasting without food or guide, sitting at pic nic style tables/ benches. It was an overall short and sweet experience at Calem.

Igreja do Carmo, also known as the Church of Lady of Mount Carmel, is a stunning baroque church in the Baixa district. Its exterior is adorned with intricate tile mosaics depicting scenes related to the founding of the Carmelite Order. Connected to its twin church by a narrow residence, it houses numerous oil paintings and elaborate gilt altars inside. The church's neo-gothic architecture and traditional market nearby make it a popular destination for visitors exploring this charming area.
The Igreja do Carmo in Porto is an absolute architectural highlight and a deep dive into the unique history of the city. If you're walking through the center, the first thing that grabs you is the scale and beauty of its exterior, particularly the massive south wall covered in stunning blue and white azulejo tiles. It's truly breathtaking! Inside, the church is made with the Rococo style, but the real adventure begins beneath the floor. Visiting the catacombs and the hidden annex was a surprisingly moving experience. The most charming and unique part of the visit, and one I highly recommend, is discovering the Casa Escondida, the tiny house tucked right between the Igreja do Carmo and its sister church, the Igreja dos Carmelitas. It was famously built to prevent the nuns of Carmelitas from interacting with the Carmo monks. Walking through it gives you a fun, intimate perspective on the historical complexities and urban planning of the 18th century.
Kristel H — Google review
This church is just steps away from the famous book store in Porto. It costs €7 to enter and they normally ask you where you're from. It's a large enough church but what makes it unique is that they have several balconies inside the church what you can go to and get a different view from above. There are many different levels leading to a small outdoor balcony overlooking the town square. You can do this activity in about 1 hr and a half or take as long as you need to
Raykay J — Google review
The church was built between 1756 and 1768 for the Third Order of the Carmelite Order, designed by José Figueiredo Seixas in a mix of Baroque and Rococo styles. It stands side by side with the Igreja dos Carmelitas (Church of the Carmelitas), separated by the narrow Casa Escondida — a hidden house with a minimum width of just one meter. The striking azulejo tile mural on the side façade was added in 1912, designed by Silvestre Silvestri and produced in Vila Nova de Gaia. Inside, the church features lavish gilded woodwork, with a series of altars illustrating the Stations of the Cross, arranged in sequence alongside the main altar. Visitors can also climb to the upper level for a scenic view of Porto from above. ※ Admission includes access to Casa Escondida (Hidden House).
Seokjin H — Google review
I didn’t get the chance to go inside, but this place is a beautiful church from the outside. The tiled facade is lovely, even though part of it is currently covered maybe for protection or restoration. It’s located in a nice area that’s great for walking around, and definitely a good spot to stop and take a photo. 📍Tip: If you’re visiting the city center, it’s an easy and worthwhile stop plus, it’s close to other landmarks and cute cafés. Great for a quick break and some photos!
Adriana B — Google review
The interior is opulent. The main altar is splendid. Pulpits are nicely adorned. Paintings are fabulous.
Percy C — Google review
7 euros but you have access to all areas, it is worth it to visit. You can go to the roof but the path on top is narrow, I went early but with a lot of tourists probably is not pleasant. You have access to the pulpit and top area where you see the main floor and the altar.
Renzo V — Google review
Igreja do Carmo in Porto is a stunning baroque gem with an iconic tiled façade. Don’t miss what’s inside. The small museum (7€ per adult) and catacombs add a mysterious, intimate layer to the visit, and the rooftop access offers a rare, panoramic view over the heart of Porto. A hidden highlight well worth the climb.

Casa da Música is a striking 12-floor concert hall and restaurant in Porto, designed by renowned architect Rem Koolhaas. The building's design features flaking paintwork, graffiti, old church buildings, and ceramic patterned tiles that make it visually distinct. Inside, the 48 square feet aluminum interior can accommodate over 3000 people during club nights and offers playful spaces for children and families during the day.
Casa da Música is an incredible building with striking modern architecture – well worth seeing in person. We booked a guided tour and it was definitely worth it, giving real insight into the design and history of the space as well as access to areas you wouldn’t normally see. A must-visit in Porto whether you’re into music, architecture or just looking for something unique to do.
Joe G — Google review
This is an impressive art of modern architecture. Unfortunately I was a bit late to arrive and was not able to visit inside, but the building itself is marvelous. There is a good space for skateboarders outside it, with many people skating and skateboarding around the area.
Akash B — Google review
Crazy architecture and even more crazy when you see how all the details in each venue come together to create the perfect space for each concert. I would recommend buying a ticket for the tour (8 euro). You can just explore on your own pace and use your phone and headphones to be guided through the building by scanning the qr-codes.
Lennert D — Google review
Northwest of Porto's historic center stands a much more recent monument: the Casa de Música. This concert hall was designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and was scheduled for completion in 2001 when Porto was the European Capital of Culture. Due in part to its unusual shape, the building wasn't completed until four years later, opening its doors on April 14, 2005. Besides its modern design, the building is also renowned for its exceptionally good acoustics (and rightly so, considering its construction cost €111.2 million). There are two halls: the large Suggia Hall with 1,238 seats and the flexible Hall 2 with 300 seats and 650 standing. Even if you're not attending a concert, a visit to the Casa da Música is worthwhile.
Koen — Google review
A must-visit for music lovers, especially if you’re into the experimental side! We went to a Friday night “Digitopia” performance in the Sala 2 (a trio featuring percussion, guitar, and piano, among other experimental instruments and great lighting) and it was phenomenal. Definitely more avant-garde than your typical concert experience: think bold soundscapes, unexpected rhythms, and stunning musicianship. If you have a music background or even just a curiosity for the contemporary, you will not be disappointed. Funny enough, our Portuguese tour guide the day before suggested we skip the performance and just do a tour of the building (he said it wasn’t really his style) but I’m so glad we trusted our instincts and booked tickets. The space itself is striking, but it comes alive when you experience a live performance. Highly recommend checking the schedule and seeing something live!
Brittany B — Google review
Impressive building, with several modern concert halls. Guided tours weren't available when we visited but there was a "Keyboard Marathon", mini piano recitals by many pupils from various music schools across Portugal, and we could listen to a couple of young, dazzling performers.

Uva by Cálem is a restaurant located in a prime spot by the riverside, offering quality wines and typically Portuguese flavors. With a fantastic view of Porto's main neighborhoods across the Douro River, it provides an ideal setting for enjoying a meal. The restaurant offers an English menu and serves dishes like Linguine with Clams and Veal Ravioli. While some visitors found the food to be good but not exceptional, others praised the location and friendly service.
I love this place! Every time I visit Porto I’m going there for lunch at least once. Friendly and welcoming staff. Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato my favourite! Special mention to the chef who came to our table to share the recipe, thank you! Caramel fondant exquisite! The croquettes, the bread.. everything! And lovely views!

Lovely dining spot adjacent to the Douro River with seating outside or inside (with AC). The food was great as we had the clams, Japanese vegetable crepes, linguini with clams, a mixed salad and desserts.

If you visit Porto in summertime then you really want to find somewhere great to enjoy the amazing sunset over the river, and UVA by Çalem is a very good choice. Perfect position for sunset viewing right by the river, good choice of food and drinks, friendly and welcoming service and yes, the VIEW! We enjoyed three very nice mains and some nice drinks, give it a shot😎
Darragh M — Google review
We chose this place for the view. The food was god but we suggest to never get the mixed salad. When you pay so much for a salad you expect for it to be either very tasty or at least to have more than four bites. The host woman was very kind, but the other staff members were kind of rude (taking plates from the table like they were in a rush). Although the main dishes were tasty and the view was perfect, we left with a bad feeling from the service!

A lovely restaurant by the river with a beautiful view—perfect for a relaxing meal. If you’re seated inside, you might even catch a glimpse of the chef putting the final touches on the dishes. We shared a steak with sides, and everything was absolutely delicious.

It was really a very pleasant experience walking along Douro River. I walked past Dom Luis I Bridge from Porto to Gaia. You can see Calem, Sandeman and Kopke there. There are a lot of restaurants there, but we picked Uva by Calem to have dinner. We sat beside Douro River. The views were impressive. They had indoor dining, but we preferred outside because of the beautiful views and weather! My husband ordered shrimp and spinach risotto and a glass of Kopke white port wine and I ordered fish soup and clam pasta. The clams were very fresh and tasty and the sauce was very good. I didn’t like eating garlic but the garlic there was very delicious! The Kopke white port wine was super good. It was with slices of orange peels. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. It was one of the best meals for me that I had had in Portugal. Due to that glass of Kopke, I bought a bottle of Kopke 20 years old white the following day. I seldom drink wine, but its taste for me was really appealing. In Gaia, there were different kinds of wine tasting sets, I think it is worth a try if you are interested in port wine.

This was our third time to UVA and once again, it surprised us at how good it is. It is a definite standout in a touristy area that could be very contrived. The food is excellent, with very good pasta, some of the best fish, and THE best steak we have had anywhere in Portugal. Other favorites included... From the appetizer menu: Crispy Brie Cheese nuggets, Tabua & Tuna Carpaccio, Salmon Gravlax, and Prawns with Garlic. From the salad menu: The Mixed Salad, and Grilled Chevre Cheese Salad. From the seafood menu: Fish and Shellfish Rice, Clams with Garlic and Chili Peppers, Grilled Octopu, and Salmon with Sweet Potato Puree and Spinach. From the pasta menu: Nero Risotto with Squid and Prawns, Sautéed Linguini with Olive Oil, Garlic and Prawns, Shrimp and Asparagus Risotto, Linguini With Octopus, Olive Oil, Thyme and Garlic. ...and last but certainly not least, the steak from the meat menu. We order the mustard sauce option, and will try to try the pepper and/or the mushroom sauce next time...but as mentioned already, this was the best steak we have ever had in Portugal, so may not want to mess with a good thing. (We've been to Portugal a dozen times and love steak.) ZERT: I cannot name all the desserts we had but they were all excellent and we were really impressed that UVA makes their own ice cream, and it is excellent. And it cannot go without saying that UVA also have an excellent port wine selection (Calem also owns Barros, Burmester, and Kopke) and Carla have me no grief for wanting a half dozen different glasses to drink with my lunch. Althogh it may look a bit tourist from the outside, because the walls of the restaurant are glass from top to bottom, it makes people watching on one side and river watching on the other (with the incredible view of Porto and the Luis I bridge in the background) an extra treat. However, it the service at UVA that puts this place over the top! Carla, Stephanie, and Gustavo were all top notch and made the experience special. Carla was all smiles and seemed to be having the best time, even with all our silly touristy questions, and her attitude was infectious. And Stephanie remembered us from our last visit two years ago! We lead food and drink tours and both tour visits required some last minute changes and Stephanie was very accommodating and made sure everything went well off without a hitch. She really made me look good. These two deserve a raise because they really make guests feel well taken care of. And this is really saying something considering our tour visits three Michelin starred restaurants as well as half a dozen other high end eateries. For such a touristy area one would not expect to have such genuine service as these two give. UVA is a Porto/Gaia favorite and although a fluke during our first tour, has earned a permanent spot on all future tours, as well as topping my wife and my list of restaurants (and port tastings) that we plan to visit every time we are in Porto (and Vila Nova de Gaia.)

Casa Guedes Progresso is a Portuguese restaurant located in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto. It's known for its delicious food, great service, and age (dating from 1899!). The interior of the restaurant is interesting and it feels like stepping back in time.
I really enjoyed the food, and I have to highlight that the pork sandwich is a must-try at this place. As a starter, I ordered a codfish croquette with sheep cheese, which was also very good, but I have to say the sandwich was outstanding. It was absolutely delicious. I was served by a guy named Sydney, and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was also great, and overall it’s a place where you can eat very well.

We visited this place yesterday and had an amazing experience! Our waitress, Marriana, gave us the best service we’ve had in all of Portugal. She was approachable, always smiling, kind, and gave us genuine recommendations. We tried the passion fruit sangria, octopus, and sandwich #14 (with Brie and caramelised onions). Everything was excellent! The sangria was rich in citrus and fresh fruit, the octopus was perfectly cooked and impressively served as a whole (not just a few tentacles like in most places), and the sandwich was absolutely delicious—even though we had initially hoped to try Bifanas, but Marriana’s recommendation did not disappoint. The prices are also on point. The only small suggestion would be to serve lemon wedges with the octopus. Highly recommended!

GOTTA TRY THE ICONIC SANDWICH. (Get the beef version with an egg on top) Got recommend by the taxi driver who brought us to our hotel, so local street cred is definitely there. Food was great, sandwich + pardon peppers + Picanha steak (fries was 10/10) + Pint of SB and Pint of Somersby. Really lovely environment, great how it’s not too loud so you can still hear from people on your table. Staff are great, despite my liability of Portugues, everyone was super helpful and was a great vibe. Coming back for sandwiches next time, ate logo🫡

Words can’t properly describe how much I loved sandwich no.8 . It was absolutely amazing, the pork was so tender and all the ingredients of good quality. While in Portugal, trying a Bifana is a must. The Bifana here at Case Guesdes were good but not as good as the ones we had in Lisbon. Forneria São Pedro is a charming restaurant with wooden tables, stone walls, and a wood-fired oven at the entrance. The setting is perfect for a cozy meal, especially if you opt for the black truffle and mushroom pizza with cream base, a recipe by chef Luis Americo. Located above the Douro Marina on the Gaia bank, it offers panoramic views of the Douro River and Porto. The restaurant serves excellent classic Italian pizzas as well as reinvented dishes.
We loved this place. Tucked away above the Douro Marina on the Gaia bank, it has a brick oven and produces wonderful pizzas, pastas and other dishes. With a funky atmosphere, it is lively and noisy and bustling. The staff work their butts off so the service is pretty fast and very friendly.

Restaurante Praia da Luz is a beachfront bar and restaurant located in Foz, offering a picturesque outdoor patio right on the sand where visitors can savor sunset cocktails by the ocean. The establishment is known for its excellent padron peppers and provides a relaxed spot to enjoy a drink while taking in the beautiful views.
We loved having lunch at this restaurant with its beach location and amazing views of the ocean. It was very busy when we arrived, but we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. Service was fairly good and the atmosphere was very relaxed. We had some really amazing drinks and appetizers, as well as a salad, and some fried cod with fries. We spent almost 3 hours here relaxing and watching the ocean and never felt hurried or ignored by the staff. It is an excellent place for lunch or dinner with beautiful ocean views and soft ocean breezes! We will definitely return here again sometime!

Best way to experience the sunset on the Atlantic Ocean. If possible, take a table outside and on the upper level. The food is amazing. We had some great beef tartar, and beef capacious before our main course. You can stay until the restaurant closes as well as walk on the beach and sit on sun/beach decks.

We visited this place for drinks, and although it looks like a mix between a restaurant and a café, we mainly came to enjoy some fresh beverages by the ocean — and it was a fantastic experience. 🌊🍹☀️ The drinks were refreshing, tasty, and beautifully served. We didn’t try the food since we weren’t hungry, but based on the overall quality, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back for a meal. 👌 Everything from the decoration, atmosphere, and cleanliness to the service quality, drink flavors, and the friendliness and professionalism of the staff was truly impressive. 😊👏 The service was quick, and the whole environment made it easy to relax, chat with friends, and enjoy the moment — especially while watching the sunset by the ocean. 🌅🧡 If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping by for one of their fresh, high-quality drinks. Overall rating: 5 out of 5. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Laid back, restaurant on the beach, heaven. Food and drinks were delicious. Service relaxed but perfect. Food excellent. Best Pina colada I'd had, for the entire visit to Porto. Fresh, fresh ingredients as it should be served, in bit of a quirky glasses and not a drop of syrup, thank goodness for Praia de Luz

At this beachside restaurant, you can just relax and enjoy the ocean without ordering anything — you’re welcome to use the lounge chairs and tables freely. But we ordered beer, vodka, strawberry smoothie, grilled beef steak with roasted potatoes, and a Borani cake with coffee. We stayed on the lounge chairs for about 6–7 hours. The prices were great, everything tasted amazing, and the ingredients were fresh and high-quality.

One of Porto’s most well-known seaside dinner spots – and rightfully so for its stunning location. Getting a reservation, however, was a bit of a challenge. Our online request remained in “pending” status for days, and even repeated calls on the day went unanswered. We showed up anyway – and thankfully, the staff was kind, apologized, and seated us inside with a promise to move us outdoors later (which they kept). The place was packed and the staff visibly under pressure, so service was a bit slow to start – but once we got our menus and ordered, things flowed more smoothly. The menu has solid choices for both starters and mains, many of which are designed for sharing – a concept that works well here. We chose the sea bass in salt crust, beautifully prepared, and everything from the starter to the wine to the desserts was flavorful and reasonably priced. Despite the booking hassle and initial delay, it was a very enjoyable evening – definitely worth a visit.

Very disappointed with the food. Our fries were cold when served. Luckily they got us fresh ones, but they were also far from being warm. Staff was super friendly, nice guy. Of course the view was best of it all. DJ was also good. So good vibes but less good food.

This place is huge. It has something for everyone. I will definitely go back. Make sure you have a few hours. It has a large variety of different stores, very clean & worth going to. Enjoy!!

This place needs more signs, especially to know where the supermarket, the coffee store are. I wasted a lot of time because of that in my first visit yesterday. I left the store without buying because I couldn’t find the things I wanted . I only found the starbucks. Please improve the signs make it more visu and easy to find.

WOW Porto, also known as the World of Wine Museum, is a cultural district in Vila Nova de Gaia that offers a captivating and immersive experience. It features a cluster of museums, restaurants, and bars set in cellars that showcase the story of Porto's port wine industry. Visitors can explore the City Museum of Porto and the House of Marta Ortigao to discover treasures such as works by renowned painters and an important collection of jewelry.
Wine museum was just an amazing experience! We loved the details, the technology, the art work, the majesty, the information and know how in wine this museum has to offer the visitors. Incredible surprise when visiting the Porto wine caves where you can find this secluded area specialised in all Portugal wine regions.

I went to the wine experience museum as a solo traveler and it was a perfect break from the heat and crowds. The museum and exhibition design was amazing and very impressive. I wish the wine tasting was a bit more personal but for the price it was great. We got a voucher for a free port tonic in the terrace after and it was the perfect end to the whole experience.
Zoe B — Google review
My advice, just buy a day pass. It's about the cost of seeing 2 museums, and you'll have access to all of them over 48 hours. Also check your ticket to see if it gives you 10% off at gift shops, we missed out on that. This is a fantastic place to visit if you're in Gaia. The Cork Museum was fascinating and The Wine Experience gets you a free wine tasting. So did The Pink Palace and that was honestly the most fun we've ever had in a museum. Overall great place to visit. Beautiful facility, clean washrooms and complimentary lockers. They've also got a few restaurants and a wonderful wine bar upstairs that has a beautiful view of the city, worth checking out at night time.

We advise getting the day ticket online for around €30-€40, with the 10% discount on the food and restaurant and coupons given throughout the day, it’s great value for what you pay for. The Wine Experience was really good, Rosa, our wine experience guide, was very informative and made the presentation entertaining! The 3 wines they provide, white, red and port, were tasteful too. Planet Cork was weirdly fascinating, with interactive sections, Pink Palace was fun too. Highly recommend on your visit to Porto!

The World of Wine is an amazing experience in the heart of northern Portugal‘s cultural and wine centre of Oporto and Vila Nova de Gaia. It will appeal to everyone, including those who aren’t wine drinkers. There are a whole series of restaurants with a view to die for across the Douro River towards the bridges and monuments of this historic city. The wine experience shouldn’t be simply viewed as a museum visit, because it’s not. Rather this takes you on a guided route through multiple aspects of the history of humanity as seen through the lens of wine and wine grapes. It may sound rather academic, but there are a whole raft of interactive stations, including several where you can test your aroma identifying skills. And of course, the entire World of Wine visit is highly Instagram worthy :) To me this is an absolute must for spending several hours to an entire day. I’d also point out the great rosé journey called The Pink Palace. What a true and new wonder here in Portugal! A must see.
Eugene M — Google review
Truly value for money and a must see for every tourist. Very well set up - yet low traffic means you get everything to yourself. Teaches you the history of Porto from prehistoric to present. Chocolate tour is interesting. Wine experience is great - as someone who was sceptical I gained a new appreciation from this experience. I recommend the wine experience and pink palace - you get a lot of free wine/rose. Book online for cheaper tickets - you only need the daily ticket to get the chocolate tasting and wine tasting - don’t buy them separately as it’s a little unclear on the daily ticket description.
Roshan S — Google review
Wow District in Porto is a great place to explore if you love wine and culture. It’s a complex of several museums, each focusing on different aspects of wine — from winemaking to cork and beyond. Portugal is the world’s largest producer of cork, and Porto is the historical city for wine trade, making this place even more meaningful. To see everything properly, you’d need a full day, but if you’re short on time, I recommend visiting The Wine Experience and The World of Cork. Both are fascinating and can be done in about 2.5 hours. Definitely worth a visit!
Phongthon T — Google review

Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar, a former monastery dating back to the 1500s, is situated on a hilltop overlooking the Douro River in Vila Nova de Gaia. This remarkable building is known for its round church and cloister, both of which are equally sized and circular in shape, making it an exceptional example of classical European architecture.
Right across from Jardim do Morro is the Monastery, and honestly, we thought it was stunning. We got to visit it at night, and it was a really special experience. The area feels very calm and safe, even after dark. You do have to walk uphill a bit to get there (and the little train passes right in front, which is kind of cool), but it’s totally worth it. There were lots of people hanging out, chatting, and enjoying the view… and wow, what a view! You can see all of Porto lit up like a postcard. Perfect spot to chill, take pictures, or just soak it all in.

UNESCO and Portugal national heritage, history going back to 16 century. Great views from walls and fortifications, seeing downtown over the river. It is practical to connect visit of monastery with sunset observation from Jardim do Morro lying over the street

High above the Douro River, on a rock in Vila Nova de Gaia, stands the Mosteiro de Santo Agostinho da Serra do Pilar. Thanks to its unique architecture—the monastery church and cloister are circular—the monastery has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. The first Augustinian monastery was built here between 1538 and 1583, but it was quickly rendered obsolete as the facilities were too small for the number of monks in residence. In 1597, construction began on the new, circular church and the modernization and expansion of the monastery. The church was consecrated in 1672, and the monastery was completed by the end of the 17th century. Due to its strategic location, the monastery also served a military function; since 1947, part of the monastery grounds has been used as a military barracks. Since 1957, the church has been open for services on Sundays, but the monastery is otherwise closed to the public. Fortunately, the fantastic view from the forecourt more than compensates.

The Monastery of Serra do Pilar is one of the most striking landmarks in Vila Nova de Gaia, just across the Douro River from Porto. It’s especially known for its unique circular church and cloister — a rare architectural feature in Portugal — and its location offers one of the best panoramic views of Porto’s historic center.
Recep G — Google review
The monastery was founded around 1537–1538, when Augustinian monks relocated from the nearby Monastery of Grijó to establish a new foundation. The original monastery was completed in 1564, followed by the cloister in 1583, and the church with its dome in 1672. Operated by the Canons Regular of Saint Augustine, the monastery later took on a military function in the 19th century. During the 1832 Cerco do Porto (Siege of Porto), it was fortified and used as a strategic stronghold by liberal forces. Both the church and cloister are notable for their perfectly circular layouts, a highly unusual design in Portugal. The architecture blends Renaissance and Mannerist styles, with an emphasis on geometric clarity and the visual transparency of the circular dome and cloister. From the monastery, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the Douro River and the city of Porto — especially beautiful at sunset and at night, when the landscape is bathed in warm light or city illumination.

A beautiful church. The first Marian apparition in history appeared to Saint James the Apostle, the brother of Saint John the Evangelist, on the bank of the river Ebro in Saragossa, Spain. Unlike every other recorded apparition, this one took place during the earthly life of the Mother of God. According to tradition, she had promised Saint James that when he needed it most in his difficult mission to the pagans in today's Spain, she would appear to him to encourage him. In the year 40 A.D., while praying one night on the tobrt bank, the Virgin appeared with the Child Jesus standing on a pillar and asked Saint James and his eight disciples to build a church on the site, promising that “it will stand from that moment until the end of time in order that God may work miracles and wonders through my intercession for all those who place themselves under my patronage.” The church of Our Lady of the Pilar in Zaragoza, is the first church dedicated to Mary in history and it remains standing to this day, having survived invasions and wars – in the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939 three bombs were dropped on the church and none of them exploded. Our Lady is also said to have given the small wooden statue of the apparition to Saint James which now stands on a pillar in the church. Nuestra Señora del Pilar is the patron of Spain and all Hispanic peoples. October 12, 1492, the feast of the Virgin of the Pillar, is the day Christopher Colombus first sighted American land, and when the first Mass in the Americas was celebrated.

This is a nice place to catch sunset. You get a marvellous view of the bridge too from up here. The vantage point offers a magical nightscape once darkness has fallen. It is a bit of a tourist hotspot. However, this has less people at sunset than the nearby Jardim do Morro. Maybe because people don't fancy the climb up to the church! You can pay for a guided tour and learn more about the circular cloister, altar and more. We did not. It forms part of the UNESCO world heritage site and is now owned by the army. Construction of the monastery began in 1538. Follow here and on IG for more travel and food and drink tips, ideas and reviews @one.more.step.along.the.world

Ribeira Square

Ribeira Square, located in Porto, is renowned as the city's first commercial square due to its proximity to the Douro River, facilitating trade. It holds historical significance as it is believed that Henry the Navigator set off from this square for his conquest of Ceuta in 1415. The area is a tourist hotspot with attractions like Calem, Cais da Ribeira, and nearby commercial areas for souvenir shopping.
We waited by the fountain to have a table outside, and it was well worth the wait! The service from Monica was lovely, and she served us with good humour and excellent hospitality. All of the food we had was delicious, and the port we finished the meal with was also lovely. The atmosphere in the square is great, and it's nice to watch the fountain in the evening. For the starter, main meals and dessert (alongside the drinks), we felt it was very reasonably priced. Book ahead, or be prepared to wait a little, as they take their time to make sure everything is just right. We also appreciated not feeling rushed once we were sat at a table; we're on holiday, and we liked being able to savour the food and our time there. For those who have said they didn't like waiting for seats, there are plenty of places nearby that were empty. This restaurant is busy for a reason!

The restaurant is not spacious but they have a good vibe. We like everything we ordered. The seafood rice is the best I’ve ever tried. The flavor of the seafood broth was so rich that we couldn’t help but finishing the food in minutes. The rice was perfectly cooked and absorbed all the flavor. I’ll always miss this place in Porto.

We had been trying to come here a few times during our stay in Porto, but there was always a lineup. The restaurant is small and cosy, and they don’t accommodate groups larger than four. It’s best to go as a pair. That said, it’s definitely worth the wait. For starters, we shared the Bacon Bruschetta, which came with bacon, tomato, and chèvre cheese, along with stuffed mushrooms, spicy potatoes, and a mixed salad. Everything was fresh and well-seasoned. For the main dishes, we had the Gratin Cod, served with cream, spinach, and mozzarella. We also tried the duck breast and the grilled pork fillet. The seafood really stood out, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. I would stick to the seafood as that hit the spot with me. To end the meal, we shared the Dream Cake, a rich chocolate cake layered with meringue and served with mandarina ice cream. It was a perfect finish to the evening. The wine we chose was the Diálogo Douro DOC, and it paired beautifully with our meal. The real charm of the place is the owner. She works the ground floor herself and is incredibly welcoming and friendly. You can tell she really cares about the guest experience. If you plan to visit, I recommend going between 6 and 7 p.m. to avoid the dinner rush. They only have two tables for groups of three or four, and larger parties won’t be seated.

I visited Ribeira Square at night, and it was such a lovely experience. The atmosphere by the river was beautiful, with the lights reflecting on the water. I had the garlic prawns with bread and a glass of sangria — everything was delicious and full of flavor. The owner was so wonderful and helpful, making the whole experience even better. A perfect spot for a relaxed evening in Porto!

Hidden gem with a view at the river. When me and my wife visited it was full, but it's worth yo wait. Lady owner is really nice, great hospitality. Food: I took sea food rice with prawn and shells, my wife black spaghetti. Everything was delicious, next time have to choose duck, because on other customer plate it looked delicious as well. Desserts were absolutely sweet, excellent. Dream cake is a must. Highly recommended!

Restaurant
Restaurante Casario is situated within the Gran Cruz House, a historic 16th-century building that has been transformed into a hotel. The restaurant seamlessly blends modern elegance with traditional Portuguese influences and offers an extensive selection of local wines and port. Led by chefs Miguel Castro Silva and Jose Guedes, the restaurant presents classic dishes such as cured salmon with figs and pork belly with cabbage and garlic sauce.
We had a fabulous meal at Casario on a rainy evening in early May 2025. Pictured are squid and shrimp lollipops, scallops with creamy saffron rice and caviar, and for dessert, almond tiles with apple and mascarpone cream - all of which were delicious. Our waiter, Ignacio, was so welcoming and helpful with advice about Portuguese wine. When there was a no-show for one of the choice window tables, he happily moved us there to enjoy the view. On a warmer, drier evening, I'm sure the outdoor tables with a view over the Douro are spectacular. I highly recommend Casario for a special meal in Porto!

The food was incredible, and the service was even more impressive! I visited solo for lunch, and while I've heard dinner might offer an even better vibe, the experience was fantastic. The Portuguese rice with fish was a standout dish—absolutely delicious—and the cod was exceptional as well. Highly recommend!

A cute small restaurant close by the river bank. We sat indoors. But with all the windows and doors open, we can see the rive and boats and hear live music. The setting was lovely. We had goat cheese salad, beets with rice, chicken with gnocchi, and pork with cabbage. All were great. I had an aged port to finish the meal.

Pleasant places with limited number of tables by the Douro. Very polite and attentive staff and excellent food. We took 4 main course dishes for 2 people and 2 desserts. Option to choose a 5 course menu with or without wine pairing is also available. Highly recommended if you are in Porto!
Ankita M — Google review
Let's start off by saying this is a great location with a view of the Douro River. Limited seating inside - maybe 9-10 tables. We ordered three entrees: octopus and watercress on sweet potato mash, sea bass with fennel orange sauce, and roasted veal with mustard sauce and potato gratin. The octopus was perfectly seasoned and tender, not rubbery, and paired well with the sweet potato mash. Sea bass skin was crispy, flesh was moist and flavorful. Roasted veal was juicy and well seasoned. Given we were celebrating a special occasion, we ordered dessert - creme brulee with star anise and orange, almond and figs. Holy sweets, it was so delicious. And our gracious waiter treated us to a generous taste of the Cruz tawny port. We had an awesome dining experience. Go here and treat yourself to fine dining.

We booked a table with a river view and this was a magical place to sit . There are a good selection of wines by the glass and we enjoyed two ventozelo white wines from the Douro valley a rabigato and a field blend mcs both were delicious and perfect for the fish dishes we chose . Service was relaxed attentive and conversational and the team spoke perfect English. There is a tasting menu or as we did you can choose three or four dishes to share from the list of mains . Grilled octopus sweet potato mash was tender perfectly spiced and melt in the mouth . Scallops perfectly cooked with the most delicious lemon rice a dish that will live long in the memory. Turbot was firm fleshed sweet and succulent and perfect with its sea weed accompaniment. Deserts are fun nutty classic combination and not to be missed . Highly recommend this place.

The Portuguese restaurant, Mercearia do Bernardino, was a delightful place to have breakfast during one's stay in the area. The breakfast offerings were abundant and delicious, featuring a different homemade cake each day. What truly distinguished this establishment was the genuine warmth and sincerity of its staff. They went above and beyond in their care and hospitality, even surprising customers with special treats like birthday cakes. The level of service provided by Mercearia do Bernardino was exceptional and rare in today's world.

Absolutely delicious, I was in Porto for 2 days and came back here for seconds. Had the Shrimp Rissoles, meat chamucas and my girlfriend had a tuna salad, everything felt like it was home made and made with love. The atmosphere is amazing, feels like you've come to eat at your moms restaurant and your aunties and uncles are there in the background. There is a huge window with a beautiful view of Porto and we were lucky to observe local cats sunbathing and catting around on the rooftops of Porto, felt very magical. If you are in the area, I would walk the extra 2 minutes if you want a less touristy experience. We were able to take our food out and the ladies there packed it with care.

A wonderful spot that’s part grocery and convenience store, with a hidden gem of a restaurant in the back. On our final morning we had a fantastic breakfast – the bread selection was excellent, the coffee top quality, and the eggs perfectly done, ham, cheese and orange juice. Don’t miss the walnut, and banana cake! They’ve been operating since 1960, and it shows in the charm and consistency. If you’re staying in this area and want a local breakfast, at amazing value, this is the place.

Café Offline

Café Offline is a great place to go for a quick meal. The food is delicious, and the service is good. The stake sandwich is definitely worth trying!
I was really a everyweek visitor about 14 years ago, I’ve been away since but came back for a visit which I couldn’t be happier to have memories of. The steak sandwich is really remarkable!!
Gil S — Google review
Used to be better but now just really overpriced mediocre and soulless food. Greasy fries, overcooked veggies and a tomato salad that was literally just a badly cut up tomato. Paid 60eur for 2 people, a price that would have bought us a much nicer meal somewhere else.
Hai N — Google review
Very overated local restaurant. The steak sandwich is overpriced very small and nothing special, looks nothing like the picture. The francesinha is alright. The staff were very nice though and there's a very cool terrace
Pedro F — Google review
The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and nice decor. The waiters are friendly but not too organized, so sometimes they mix things up but nothing too bad. Regarding the food, we had the Francesinha with pork and it was really good. Will definitely come back to try some other things on the menu too. The prices are average.
Simona R — Google review
The quality of the francesinha is very high. The meet is delicious and the sauce is amazing. Staff is very friendly and always there to help you if you have any questions. Parkin is very easy on the area as they have private parking 20mts away. The only non positive aspect is that you need to pay with cash. ATM is not available, so be prepared. Very good price for the overall quality of food and service
Rui T — Google review
An almost complete disappointment... The food is great. It really is, but the size of the meal took a turn for the worst possible outcome. This was the third time we went to eat a good francesinha, but with each visit it becomes more expensive and less value per € spent. Not to mention we can't stop having the feeling of being watched and controlled throughout the meal. PS: The card reader has been on vacation since the last full moon of 5 years ago... Just ridiculous at this point considering the value for a meal. So if visiting, better prepare the wallet.

We loved this place service was amazing and relaxed. All the waiters were extremely helpful and friendly. And the food yum yum yum. We asked for the steak sandwich we saw in a timeout article and it seriously looked just like the picture and tasted amazing. We loved it.

Restaurant
Taberninha do Manel is a charming restaurant situated in Vila Nova de Gaia, right by the Douro River near the Luis Bridge. Unlike many touristy spots in the area, this eatery stands out for its top-notch quality and fresh ingredients. It's renowned for serving the best small clams in Porto. The restaurant boasts a lovely old-world ambiance with carefully chosen decor and attentive service. Despite being busy, it offers an intimate dining experience.
We went for dinner here with no booking (3 people) and we were seated almost immediately. The hostesses were very friendly and efficient. The food came out very very quickly and was delicious. I had the oven baked cod and my friend had the steak Francesinha. He said it was the best he had! The drinks were also nice. The service was lovely, the young man from Brazil was very kind and helpful. Thank you!!

A place that unites, fills, and has a perfect balance in everything. Delicious food that's worth every penny. Unique dishes and balanced meals will make you feel like you're in a restaurant, but at the same time, it's like your grandmother cooked it. An unforgettable place.

Despite the beautiful view to Oporto City, and after an Instagram suggestion, we (3 adults) decided visited, but we were not satisfied. We order some starters (3 dishes), unfortunately on the "ovos rotos/broken eggs" there was a long blond hair... the food's quality is not so amazing and good as rated. At the same time we ordered the starters, we order a "francesinha" and "sangria" that took 1 hour to "arrive". Distorts Portuguese gastronomy, and is a place typically for tourists (€€€€). We do not recommend...

I am combining my description of the service and Ambiance as super spectacular and so inviting. When we got there around 10:00 p.m. at night on October 15th the restaurant was jumping. There were two other groups before us that were sat pretty quickly within 15 minutes or so. During the time we were waiting the hostess was extremely friendly and kept giving us updates on when the table was going to be ready and was making light conversation with us as we waited. When we finally got seated you could tell that the servers were definitely busy trying to get everyone's food and drinks out and so the same hostess came to us and said don't worry I'll take your order for you and told us the things that were the most popular which from my pictures we basically got everything she said LOL. And we were not disappointed with the food that we chose. Now we know why they are considered the house specialties. The flavors of the potato fish cheesy goodness dish I cannot remember the name of it was just so warm and comforting. I was worried about a fishiness coming through when you took different bites but no all the flavor is harmonized well with each other. The tuna salad that they made was extremely fresh and again was pleasantly surprised that though it was fish the spices and bread/butter combo that came with it really didn't give any fishiness. It was also well balanced. Now I will say though those other dishes were amazing our favorite hands down was definitely the grilled octopus. It was so tender and almost melt in your mouth. We were blown away by how well it was cooked. For sure I would say if you are in the area and have a good amount of time please check this spot out and give yourself at least 3 hours to enjoy the meal because again we sat there laughing eating and talking with the people around us because it was that fantastic of a Time for roughly 3 hours.

I had a fantastic dinner at Taberninha do Manel, thanks to a great recommendation from the staff at the Cenica Porto Hotel. On my waiter’s suggestion, I ordered the grilled octopus and it absolutely didn’t disappoint. Perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and easily one of the best I’ve had. The Mojito was also very well made and the perfect refreshing addition to the meal. Wonderful food, great service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Make the effort and cross the bridge if you’re in Porto — you won’t regret it.

Hands down one of the best restaurants in Porto. This is my fourth time visiting Porto and the highlight of my trip is to eat at Taberninha do Manel. My suggestions are the Bacalhau Assado, the shrimp with the sauce, the octopus and to drink the sangria is a must! I would give 100 stars to everything in this place. I so recommend!!
Cristiane D — Google review
For a delicious Portuguese meal I can absolutely recommend the Taberninha do Manel. Although I arrived at one of the busiest times of the evening, I was fortunate enough to get a table inside the restaurant almost immediately. Despite the crowds, the atmosphere was relaxed and convivial. The staff rushed to and from the tables to make sure everyone was as comfortable as possible, and despite the crowd, one of the waitresses still found time for a quick chat. Good food, delicious wine, and a wonderful atmosphere. What more could you ask for?!

If I could give a “6” for service, I would - I inadvertently ordered the wrong cod dish and the restaurant replaced it with the dish I actually wanted with no up charge - greatly appreciated!!! All the food our table shared was amazing - highly recommend…..
