Outdoor Activities
Antisamos beach is a picturesque cove with turquoise waters nestled between two wooded headlands. It's famous for its peacock-feather emerald and royal-blue waters, making it a beautiful swimming spot. The beach was featured in the movie Captain Corelli's Mandolin, and its clear, balmy shallows are perfect for snorkeling.
Really good beach with turquoise clean waters. The beach bars rules about the sunbeds and umbrellas vary - some ask for minimum spend per set (40 to 30 euro) while others have restrictions. Beach shoes are recommended although not absolutely necessary.
Ivan F — Google review
Very nice beach. If you’re lucky, you can spot plenty of fish. However, there are also quite a lot of wasps—more than you usually see on other beaches in Kefalonia. We had brought some fruit with us, but we couldn’t eat it because the wasps started gathering. I even got stung by one
Diana C — Google review
I really enjoyed this place! The view is beautiful, the drink service is great, and the beach is perfect even for non-swimmers since the water isn’t steep. Many people mention the wasps, but they’re just part of nature — you get used to them after a while. The sunbeds are free as long as you order from Acron Bar. The staff never pressured us about how much to order, which made the experience even more relaxing. We simply chose the sunbeds we liked, ordered a few beers and cocktails, and enjoyed that perfect vacation feeling: sitting back with a book while someone brings you your favorite drinks. Prices seemed reasonable to us, though “high” and “low” can mean different things to different people, so it’s best to check the menu first. If the sea is calm, you’ll see plenty of fish gathering around you — they don’t bite or bother you, it’s just fun to watch them swim by. Another thing I loved is that it’s a stone beach rather than sand. You stay clean, with no sand sticking to your feet or ending up in the car or hotel room. Swimming shoes can make walking more comfortable, but they’re not absolutely necessary if you don’t mind going barefoot. All in all, it’s a lovely spot to relax, swim, and enjoy drinks by the sea. Highly recommend!
Scripcaru A — Google review
Antisamos Beach is often promoted as one of the top ten beaches in the world. While it is undoubtedly beautiful, I personally wouldn’t place it among the world’s absolute best. It’s certainly worth a visit, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression strong enough to make me want to return. The beach features white pebbles, which give the water a striking turquoise-blue color, especially near the shore. However, just a few meters after entering the water, it drops off into deep sea quite abruptly, so most people stay and swim within the first 10 meters of the shoreline. Along the beach, there are several restaurants that advertise “free sunbeds and free parking.” This, however, comes with fine print — the sunbeds are only “free” if you spend a minimum of €30–€45, depending on the establishment. It’s important to ask for the exact conditions upfront to avoid surprises. There is also a section of the beach with paid sunbeds that cost €15–€20 per set, without any consumption required. And finally, there’s a public area where you can bring your own umbrella and towel, but keep in mind that the pebbles here are quite large and rough, which makes it less comfortable for lying down without proper padding. For those who enjoy watersports, the far end of the beach offers a variety of guided water sports activities, which adds some excitement to the overall experience. All in all, Antisamos Beach is lovely to see and worth visiting once, especially for the vivid water color and mountain backdrop. But with the crowds, pricing conditions, and lack of comfort in the public section, it doesn’t quite live up to the global hype in my view. At the end Of this review I must underline my nightmare of this beach- wasps, there are thousands of them and they are very annoying.
Alex R — Google review
Relatively easy to reach and parking spots are more than enough. Unfortunately beach bars have occupied more than half the beach length so unless you want to visit one of them, you might feel a bit squeezed.
Nikos A — Google review
The beach was amazing - the water crystal clear and sunbeds and changing facilities abound. There’s a restaurant that has a variety of foods and desserts and they bring it right to your sunbed. The road to get there is a spiral wind but definetly worth it. We spent a memorable day there and didn’t want to leave.
Debbie Z — Google review
Antisamos Beach is an absolute gem. From the moment you arrive, you're greeted by stunning turquoise waters and lush green hills – it's truly picturesque. One thing to note is that it gets deep quite fast, so it's something to be aware of, especially if you have little ones or aren't a strong swimmer. Also there is not much space to sit for free and you'll probably have to use a sunbed. Antisamos Beach is an unmissable stop on your Kefalonian adventure.
Ioannis — Google review
Beautiful beach for swimming! There are free sun beds set close together with an expectation to purchase from the restaurants. The views from Sami are breathtakingly!

Bodies of Water
Karavomilos Lake, located near Sami in Kefalonia, is a picturesque and enchanting spot that showcases the island's geological wonders. The lake was formed through limestone erosion and the karst landscape of Kefalonia, making it a result of ancient geological processes. It is also of great biological importance, home to many endemic species. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk from Sami to the lake, passing by charming bridges and a little port along the way.
A nice tiny lake, duck swimming, simple restaurant by the water

I was camping in camping Karavomilos beach, in Sami Kefalonia. From there it is about 15 minutes of walking, along the sea in a picturized road. I crossed about 4 nice bridges over little wster ways, there is also a little port on the way. Then I came to the lake which is a wondwrful place with a very nice tavern. There are also many nice places to sweem in the wonderful cold cristal see water. It is a must to go there at day time and also at night time.
Isak ו — Google review
Really nothing special. There isn't much parking space, and the lake itself smells quite bad. However, there's a nice tavern nearby, overlooking the ocean, so you can have a nice drink here. The lake itself is not very big, but there are a couple of geese very eager for attention / bread, as you can see on the pictures. Fun to visit if you're in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't recommend a special visit for this attraction.
Sven B — Google review
Relaxing pebble beach next to the lake The pebble is white and therefore shows up the emerald blue of the lake nicely. Definitely wear wet shoes to walk around here There's a charming tavern right on the lake with nicely shaded seating. This is an idyllic and relaxing stop to come to. The region of Sami has plenty to keep you happy. Make sure you leave no stone unturned!
Markos K — Google review
If you're in the area this place is a must visit in my opinion. It's always peaceful and beautiful to look at, you'll usually find ducks and geese in and around the lake. There's a tavern/cafe next to the lake so you can get something to eat and drink and there's also a playground to keep kids entertained.
Alexia R — Google review
It was cute but I wouldn't call it a lake. More like a glorified duck pond. I enjoyed watching the fish. The water wheel it talks about doesn't really exist. There was like a piece left but that was it.
Elizabeth M — Google review
Beautiful... go and see for yourself you won't be disappointed.... just relax and enjoy. The duck and geese love to be fed. X Great coffee - just make sure to ask for it hot!!

Agia Paraskevi Beach is a delightful destination that offers both public and private beach options, making it perfect for all types of visitors. The private area provides sun loungers for a fee, allowing you to relax in comfort while enjoying the stunning crystal-clear waters. Families will appreciate the nearby green meadow where children can play freely, although be prepared for some lively activity as parents engage their little ones in games.
Perfect beach, I am surprised it is not advertised on the social platforms. There is a private beach, at the shade of the trees and a public beach, on the rocks. The private beach offers 2 sunbeds for 15 euros (all day), parking, toilets and shower for additional 50 euro cents. The water is crystal clear and great for snorkeling.
Luciana D — Google review
One of our favorite beaches of the trip. There is a free parking lot with plenty of parking. This is a pebble beach but they are not painful to walk on unlike the smaller pebble beaches. There is natural shade from trees. There is a cafe (we didn’t eat there). The water was very nice for swimming and snorkelling.
Yuval S — Google review
Agia Paraskevi Beach is an enchanting haven that promises a memorable experience. The stunning, crystal-clear waters of the sea are a sight to behold, inviting you to immerse yourself in their beauty. What sets this beach apart is the unique arrangement of sun loungers nestled within a charming little park beneath the shade of trees. The adjoining green meadow offers a wonderful space for kids to play, adding to the family-friendly atmosphere. You can find umbrella set for 15 euros ( one umbrella e two seats) or you can bring an umbrella for the free beach Adding to the allure, the beach is adorned with a plethora of beautiful butterflies that dance around, enhancing the natural beauty of the surroundings. There's no shortage of culinary delights either, with a well-stocked bar and restaurant offering authentic Greek cuisine that won't break the bank. As with any paradise, a few points of caution are in order. Beware of wasps, especially in the morning, as they are attracted to the water sprayed for lawn irrigation. It's advisable to carry antihistamines just in case. Additionally, the rocky terrain demands suitable footwear, so don't forget to pack those specially designed shoes for comfort. Agia Paraskevi Beach is a haven that seamlessly combines nature's beauty with the convenience of facilities, creating an unforgettable setting for a beach getaway.
Gabriele S — Google review
Beautiful beach, but kinda small. .full of rocks. The water is deep right from the shore
Mihaela P — Google review
Beautiful crystal clear water and calm swimming spot. Next to the road with easy access, there is a sunbed rental shop (paid) next to it. As usual in the island the beach is not sandy but with small round pebbles. There's not a lot of parking available - check the side of the road.
Adrián P — Google review
We hired beds for €15 and sat in a lovely shaded garden area. Easy steps down to the beach which is white pebble and rocks into the sea. We used beach shoes for this. Lovely location with views of Ithaca and Sami. Enjoyed about three hours on our tour of the Island before moving on to Agia Effimia.
Andy G — Google review
This beach should have a lifeguard, I guess the loophole they use here is not having sunbeds on the beach itself. Otherwise it would be required by law. If you come in the afternoon, the beach is shaded, after 3pm Each sunbeds costs 7.50 as in 2025

Melissani Cave, located just a couple of kilometers outside of Sami in Kefalonia, is a must-visit attraction. The cave features a striking lake with crystalline waters that visitors can explore by boat. The sun's rays shining down on the intricate stalactites create a mesmerizing sight as they reflect off the clear waters. The cave's glowing lagoon is particularly beautiful when illuminated by the early morning or evening sun pouring through the natural skylight.
One of a kind experience! We arrived and queued for about 20-30 mins from beginning to being in the boat. Tickets 10 euro each. This is at 11am, the whole thing lasted ab 10 mins, you can leave a tip if you want to the boat guy, ours was really fun- took a picture of every one of us on the boat separately, there were about 3-4 more boats. Unfortunately the view from top was closed.
Petya K — Google review
The colors of the water are not exactly like in the pictures you see on the internet... We went at 10 a.m. and it wasn’t too crowded. The boat ride takes only 3 minutes, and during that time, because of the large number of people on the boat, you don’t really have the chance to take photos or properly capture the moment. The price is €10 for adults and €5 for children.
Stefan S — Google review
Melissani Cave is undeniably a natural wonder and well worth a visit, earning a solid four stars from me. The cave is absolutely stunning, especially when the sun's rays penetrate the open roof, illuminating the incredibly clear, turquoise waters with a surreal, glowing effect. It's truly mesmerizing to glide across the water in the small boats, and our guide did a good job explaining the cave's history, including how it's named after the nymph Melissani, who, according to myth, drowned herself here out of unrequited love for Pan. The story adds a layer of mystical allure to an already magical place. However, while the beauty is undeniable, the experience itself is quite brief. The boat ride around the cave lasts only about five to ten minutes, which, for the price of admission, feels a bit short. This brings me to my main caveat: it absolutely does not worth waiting for hours in a queue to experience this. We saw incredibly long lines, and for a five-minute ride, that kind of wait would severely diminish the enjoyment. My advice is to try and visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid peak times. If you can get in with a reasonable wait, Melissani Cave is a uniquely beautiful place to witness nature's artistry. Just manage your expectations regarding the duration of the visit and you'll be captivated.
Ioannis — Google review
Melissani Lake is one of the most magical places in Kefalonia, a cave with an underground lake where the crystal-clear waters glow in shades of blue and green as sunlight pours through the open roof. The boat ride is short but very charming, and the rowers often sing during the journey, which creates a special atmosphere. At the end, however, they do expect tips and may offer to take photos for the same reason—something to keep in mind. To reach the boats, you need to go down about 30 steps and then walk roughly 200 meters through a descending tunnel inside the cave. It’s very important to arrive early, because when several cruise ships are in port, the lines can get very long and the wait may be close to an hour before entering. I recommend bringing water and an umbrella, since the queue is often under the sun and the heat can be strong. Despite the wait, the experience is absolutely worth it, especially around midday when the sunlight makes the water shine at its best.
Jose M — Google review
Melissani Cave is a stunning must-see in Kefalonia! The water's vivid blue color is breathtaking, appearing almost glowing. Inside, you'll see bats flying overhead and may even spot electric eels swimming below, creating a magical atmosphere. The tour lasts about 15 minutes, led by a local guide who rows the boat and shares interesting tidbits without a lengthy lecture. Don’t be discouraged by a long line at the ticket office—multiple boats operate simultaneously, so the wait goes by quickly. This stop offers a serene break from the beach, making it a highly recommended experience!
Alex R — Google review
Absolutely amazing and must see! I saw people complaining that the visit takes only 10-15 minutes, I don’t know what they were expecting, it s just enough to take the tour of the entire cave and to find out some information about it. Also the guides are super nice, ours was singing as in a venetian gondola. If you go at the right hour(between 12 and 14) you can’t be disappointed.
Beatrice D — Google review
Beautiful place with history. But you queue for 10-30 minutes, walk down a set of steps and a ramp, hop into a boat, have a 10 min tour and then you are done. It’s €10 per person and is worth seeing but do not plan for it to be a half day out as it’s only a short stop. Parking is free and toilets in the car park
Bryony W — Google review
charming place. small underground lake. The ceiling of the cave collapsed years ago and that's how the lake was discovered. The ticket includes a short 10min. boat ride in the lake. 3-4 boats in the time, 10 people in each boat. The boatman explains about the cave as you cruise. Better to buy a combined ticket for this lake and the stalactite cave. There is a long line. Arrive early to be first. There is a free parking lot adjacent to the complex

We visited the Odysseus Theme Park and had an amazing experience! There are many animals and you can even buy carrots from there and feed them. The animals know what’s coming when they see you holding the carrots and they’ll run right up to you, eager to eat! It’s a truly fun and interactive experience 😊 The park also has an impressive variety of parrots, including Eclectus, African Grey, Blue-and-Gold Macaw, Cockatoo, and more. It’s a paradise for bird lovers! ♥️♥️♥️ Also, there’s a small shop where you can buy souvenirs and even unique jewelry at reasonable prices. The staff member there, Antigone, was absolutely wonderful, friendly, professional, and made our visit even more enjoyable! You’ll also find a place to grab handmade ice cream and refreshments, perfect for a break in between exploring. Overall, 10/10 and would highly recommended! Congratulations to the team for creating such a beautiful and well-thought-out place 🎉

Amazing theme park, really creative way to show the journey of Odysseus. Such great attention to detail and really enlightening! Animals are kept very happy and are interactive, amazing for the price. Staff are so lovely also, would 100% recommend to anyone on the island!

Such a fun experience! You learn more about Odysseus’ journey trough stories and statues and as a plus you can also watch and feed the animals. The man behind the counter even called the donkeys when he saw I wanted to feed them. This totally made my day!

An absolutely magical place – clean, beautiful, and thoughtfully designed down to the smallest detail! A true paradise for every animal lover. The animals are incredibly friendly, cuddly, and well cared for. The whole atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff are simply outstanding – their love for both their work and people shines through in everything they do. Please, never change – you are amazing! You can feed and cuddle the animals, and even grab a tasty snack along the way. Our family had the most wonderful day here, and we will definitely be coming back. I can’t recommend this place highly enough – a perfect experience from start to finish!

My family and I are from Spain and we think that "The Odysseus Theme Park" in Kefalonia combines the mythology of the Odyssey with a natural setting full of well-cared-for animals that you can see up close and even feed with carrots. The walk is peaceful and beautifully themed, and at the end you can relax at the café with drinks, ice cream, and snacks while enjoying the scenery.

Drogarati Cave is a must-see attraction in Kefalonia, offering guided tours through its impressive chambers filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and limestone formations. The cave's large chamber boasts incredible acoustics and has even been used as a concert venue. Discovered in the 18th century after an earthquake revealed its entrance, this enchanting cave has been open to the public since 1963.
The best time to visit is around 1:00 PM, when the light enters through the cave opening, entrance costs €10/person, there is parking, in peak months it can be a little busier if you are "lucky" with tourist buses. 👌💯🫶🇬🇷☕️🅿️

Drogati Cave offers a memorable experience that's worth the visit. The cave itself is impressive, a fascinating natural formation that provides a cool and unique environment to explore. It's a straightforward and enjoyable excursion. Adjacent to the cave is a restaurant with a pool, which makes for a convenient stop. The availability of these amenities allows for a simple day trip, where you can tour the cave and then relax nearby. The restaurant provides a place to eat and the pool is a good option for unwinding. It's a practical and easy way to combine two different activities in one location.

The Drogarati Caves in Kefalonia are truly impressive and worth a visit if you enjoy natural wonders and underground landscapes. Estimated to be over 150 million years old, the cave is filled with stalactites and stalagmites forming fascinating shapes. The atmosphere is cool and quiet, giving it a magical feel, and the size of the main chamber is surprising—it has even been used for concerts thanks to its incredible acoustics. The pathways are well marked and the visit is quite manageable, though you should be prepared for some steep steps when entering and exiting. A unique experience that adds something different to your time on the island.

On our second-to-last day in Kefalonia, we caught an extremely rainy day, so we decided to look for some indoor activities. That’s how we ended up visiting this cave — and even though it’s quite small, it has a certain charm and beauty to it. We really enjoyed the experience! 6€/pers.
Alexandrina P — Google review
Another of Kefalonias beautiful natural attractions There are quite a few steps to get down to the cave, and I'd say about 98% of the steps have railings, just stick to the correct side and you should have no problems getting up or down. The cave is huge and the acoustics are amazing, I was lucky that a tourist was singing at one point in the cave and I was so mesmerized that I forgot to record until the last 5 seconds of the song. Truly beautiful place and the cafe at the top serves a gorgeous iced coffee with ice cream.
James K — Google review
The Drogarati Cave is a feature just outside Sami. It costs about €7 to enter. Visitors buy their tickets in a broad reception area and then follow a path down to the cave entrance. There was a sign saying no photographs, so I didn’t take any.. The cave is huge and there are concrete steps that lead visitors to points of interest and on a roundabout tour. It’s ~18°C inside. The steps are all covered in carpet to help visitors not slip. Nonetheless, we did spot one person go over. Lighting was good, but a bit harsh in places. The way back up to the surface seemed quite long, but the handrails helped. There was a good deal of puffing and panting from the older visitors when they reached the top. Car parking was provided by a neighbouring cafe, that had a pool and looked really good. Worth the visit, if you don’t mind steps.
Peter M — Google review
Came here as part of the cruise excursion, excellent experience. Watch out for slippery spots, and the climbing back up might be a bit challenging for some.
Tony F — Google review
It was ok. Not amazing and felt like I didn't learn anything. Spectacular formations though and the carpet on the wet floors were a great idea. Lights did seem to disoriente some people as they were shining where they needed to walk so I had to help guide someone. But I do understand it's to light up the cave for people to actually see stuff. Still I'd love to learn how this was discovered, what types of rock formations there are. Ik I can Google but still

The food was great for the value. There are some delicious options for vegetarians like the beetroot with yogurt. I totally loved it! Antisamos Beach Bar is situated near the port of Sami and boasts a blue flag pebble beach with crystal-clear waters. Surrounded by lush greenery, this well-organized beach offers various activities such as jet skiing and beachside massages. After a day at Antisamos Beach, visitors can head to the beach bar for delicious food, stunning views, and a welcoming atmosphere. The menu features fresh and delectable options like chicken club sandwiches and calamari.
Really chilled atmosphere! Sun loungers are free if you get something off the menu (a drink counts). Really friendly staff and can't do enough for you. Drinks and food are well priced and the sun loungers are really comfortable.

Quite well maintained restaurant and beach bar. Very attentive and polite staff. The food was good, although the octopus in honey was a bit chewy, but the octopus is kinda tricky to get it right. The restaurant has a great chill vibe. The staff brought some ground coffee to fume out the wasps as they were quite interested in the chicken souvlaki.
Ivan F — Google review
Absolutely love this beach bar! Stunning views, chilled vibes, and food that’s as delicious as it is fresh. Perfect for cocktails, fresh seafood, and lounging in the sun while listening to the waves. A true seaside escape!
Sara D — Google review
Even on a cloudy day this bar and beach is a great place to spend your day. The beach is stunning and the bar has sun beds which you can use for ‘free’ as long as you make a purchase, we just got a soft drink each. The service is quick and easy as there are staff members walking along the beach as well as in the bar itself. We had a brief shower of rain while there so went and sat in the bar as it passed and there was plenty of seating in sheltered areas to do this. Overall, a really scenic and aesthetically pleasing place.
Craig B — Google review
Great place to spend the day. The food is good, but the cocktails are unfortunately quite disappointing. Sunbeds and umbrella rental is €15. Free parking is available, though at times the wind can blow dust from the parking area across the beach. There’s also a lovely garden area with sunbeds if you prefer relaxing in the shade rather than on the hotter beachfront. The only downsides are the spotty Wi-Fi and the poor quality of the cocktail
Michael — Google review
Amazing beach with clear waters! You can put up your own umbrella and stay there for free.

We had a lovely day at the beach with great food from the bar. The sunbeds are free if you get any drinks or food.

Agia Paraskevi Beach Restaurant is located on a beautiful small stony beach with turquoise water. The restaurant offers traditional dishes and boasts an amazing sea view, creating a calm and cozy atmosphere inside a garden. Visitors can also enjoy sun lounger rental on the artificial meadow next to the parking lot. While the beach may be quite slippery, it's a nice and quiet spot to relax by the sea.
Beautiful place and very good food and nice people 🥰

Nice little beach close to the main road between Agia Efimia and Sami. Quite slippery rocks, you need special shoes. But all nice and quiet. The restaurant has a great parking space and friendly welcoming staff. Lots of wasps, but you get some burned coffee on the table. Also a nice "demanding" cat, adorable. Quite pricey and portions are not big, but good quality food. And diverse. Ask for the specials. Thank you!
Ina M — Google review
Great place to eat and relax on the beach. Good food at fair prices. You can enjoy a beach, before, during or after your meal. Worth the pit stop.
Philipe K — Google review
I can only speak of the beach and the sun beds. There is plenty of natural shade in the premices, but the sunbeds are charched 7.5 euros each, including free parking BUT if you want to use the shower, you have to pay 0.50 euros. It's not the small price they charge it's the fact that you already pay to be there. I believe you should reconsider. It's disappointing
Z K — Google review
We bought tuna salad (8 euros) and oven baked goat (12 euros). Except simple canned tuna, salad included the minimum of vegetables, the portion was quite small for greek restaurants. We were promised, that goat will be added with fried onion and potatoes, but there was no the first one at the plate at all. There was no any additional vegetables also. As a "compliment" we have got 1 euro in check for bread. We were waiting for something more customer orientated in a place with such good reviews.

Could be so much better. Staff are great. Food and decor is average, especially given the price. They are benefitting from a lack of competition.

Super location, friendly staff. Simple but tasty food menu and a wide selection of cocktails and other drinks. We had a Greek salad and a gyros plate, along with potato wedges. Sat at a table under an old olive tree just beside the stony beach. Lovely to stop on the coast road or to eat and drink if you spend a day at the beach.

Simple and good food with a nice view. We recommend it for lunch after enjoying the beautiful beach and sea right next to it. The oven baked chicken was good and the Moussaka was very delicious! The staff is very friendly and the waiter Kosta is a real entertainer ;-)

One of the best meals I’ve ever had in Greece. As an Italian I have to say even the pasta is amazing. Definitely recommend the fresh fish, shrimp tartar and local wine. Also great customer service and view of the sea!

The best food we had in Kefalonia though it was 45mn far from our hotel!!. We had an entire sea bass grilled with excellent french fries at a very good price but most of all so well cooked. Fresh salads, desserts and wine were absolutely great too. Beautiful setting under the eucalyptus close to the sea. Service was welcoming, attentive and professional. Quite a unique spot in Kefalonia. Just beware if it's very hot at the time of visiting, it becomes pretty sweaty and overwhelming. But worth a visit all the same!

Fantastic Spot. Away from the busy tourism and definitely a must visit! After the earthquake in 1953 the town got abandoned, and it's in a great state for a visit. Almost no one there, and the area is beautifull. If you're lucky you might encounter one of the few goats walking around, or see some deep water puts that are still in excellent condition. Please let this place stay as beautiful as it is!
Tijs K — Google review
It was a lot bigger than I expected at first. Many buildings and most are quite well preserved. Not a lot of information about the buildings, but you don’t really need it. Was quite interesting to walk around and imagine how life was before it got abandoned.

If you like old ruins you’ll love this place. Abandoned for over 70 years after the 1953 earthquake
John E — Google review
The ruin is small, has plenty of parking, and is open with no entrance fee. You can see everything in about 20 minutes. The houses are not very well preserved anymore, but still worth a look for the atmosphere. We were the only ones here.
Manuel R — Google review
Really cool place to visit! We were there in august and there wasn't a single other tourist in sight. The place is also surrounded by trees, so there is plenty of shade during a hot summer day. We combined this with the Melissani cave and Old Vlachata was so much more interesting. Would have given 5 stars if there were some information signs. We kind of missed some context
Amy V — Google review
Remains of hill village brought down by quake of 1953. Though there are just the remains of houses, you can get a sense of rural life then - no electricity or running water ! Fabulous old olive trees. Great display of 'sea quills' known here as 'giant onions'.

The horses were well looked after and calm. We paid an extra €30 pp for a beach ride, which was a 10 minute walk up and down the same bit of stony beach before a slow walk back to the Stables. We were not offered the opportunity to even Trot and were honestly a little bored. The Guy running the place is very lovely, but would just recommend that novice riders attend this stables and not those who wish to actually ride

Customers have praised Pirates for their instant response to bookings and for providing well-maintained boats like the Blackbeard and Flying Dutchman. The staff is described as accommodating, providing thorough safety briefings and ensuring customers are comfortable operating the boats.
Amazing experience renting from Pirates! The boat was well maintained and clean and the staff was immensely helpful and made us feel safe and confident taking the boat out by ourselves. The fuel was also changed at honest cost and all transactions were conducted with full transparency. It was our favorite part of our trip to the island!

Rented from Pirates 2 times and the experience was perfect, just insure weather is good and you will have a lot of fun. There boats are in very good condition and the team are very friendly and cooperative. Suggest you book Jason or ioli or electra, powerful and has good space specially for couples to conformably lay-down under the sun. We got a 20 min briefing on how to operate the boat and went directly to the beautiful beaches of Kefalonia. Return was smooth and easy, and Pirates team were very honest with regard to fuel consumption and don’t overcharge. Would definitely chose this company whenever I’m back to the island. Thanks to all Pirates Team for this level of professionalism which really was highlight of our stay in the island.

Manifiko is a popular spot in Kefalonia that has garnered positive reviews since its opening in 2018. Visitors have praised the venue for its great atmosphere, friendly staff, and stunning seaside location. It's known for serving excellent coffee, cocktails, and ice cream. The bar also boasts an impressive vinyl collection and is a favorite among music enthusiasts due to its fantastic rock music and DJ performances.
This was the best bar in Sami and trust me, we tried them all. We loved ending our night every night in Sami at Manifiko! The bartenders were extremely kind and attentive with great English. Rafael and Annetta were there every night that we were, and they shared info about the island, chatted about our lives and their lives, and made the best drinks we had during our stay. The price is perfectly affordable, and the owner is a music fanatic! He had an incredibly complex DJ setup with over a hundred vinyls from his personal collection. The Archaeological Collection of Same is an impressive museum displaying a wide range of artifacts from the Hellenic, Hellenistic, and Roman periods. Many of the historical sites showcased in the museum are conveniently located nearby and can be easily reached on foot, while the acropolis and castle remains lie atop a hill to the east (a brief drive away). It offers a delightful day trip for visitors.
An absolute star turn of a small museum. It starts well with restored Roman mosaics outside, lovely cool building, enthusiastic and informative staff, great descriptions in Greek, Italian & English, and an interactive room for kids and grownups if they like. It is small - but the content is very varied. An excellent staff member showed us where to find the sites in Sami - graveyards, baths, Roman harbour - about 40 minutes round trip. It's a shame they don't have a street map and guide to these locations, but that's a minor gripe. Any interest in history - go there !

An amazing Museum in the heart of Sami, if you intend to walk up to the Macenaean city at the top of the hiking trails I would definitely recommend visiting here first it has a lot of information about the City and how to get there. The museum has a lot of and well preserved artifacts that have been excavated by Archaeologists from the Island. It is very informative about past human life and culture in Kefalonia and great for Greek history enthusiasts.

Amazing experience at the archaeological museum of Sami! I was positively impressed by their collection, the museum gave an interesting overview on the early habitants of Cephalonia! And the Greek and Roman periods of Sami and the cemetery of Fiskardo. We were welcomed with very informative and friendly staff of the museum and they provided us with a tablet to get extra information on each room and its exhibits. Very recommend if you are in Sami.

A fantastic museum with a great deal of artifacts spanning from the Early Hellenic through to the Late Hellenic and then the Roman periods. Many of the archeological sites featured in the museum are within walking distance, while the acropolis and castle foundations can be found on a hill to the east (a very short drive away). A thoroughly enjoyable day trip! There is also a certain sadness to the site visits as the archaeological excavation equipment is still present at some of the sites, before funding expired.

After taking the ferry to Kefalonia from Vasiliki on Lafkada we drove to the town of Sami after hearing good things. With no personal knowledge of Sami we spoke with many locals before stopping at Mediterrano restaurant in the early evening. The restaurant faces the bay, oceanfront. We spoke with Dimitri and were so impressed we stayed for dinner. Lucas seated us, Dimitri gave us a menu run down, so many choices. Katerina made sure our order was put through efficiency and correctly. Immediately we received grilled & oiled bread, then our Saganaki cheese, some of the best we've had while in Greece. Then we received our mains, once again they did not disappoint, the flavours and portions were exceptional. My Tomahawk porkchop was something else! As we sat looking out at the bay on the waters edge we were so glad we stopped and stayed. We've decided to stay a few days to use Sami as our home base for sight seeing on the beautiful island of Kefalonia, Mediterrano we will be back! thank you. Tony & Martha

The Mediterrano caught our eye when we first arrived at Kefalonia. Walking down the main street by the shore their colourful tables spread out to the shoreline. The extensive menu board is displayed outside with very reasonable prices. Dimitri spoke to us in his very casual no pressure manner which was appreciated. Katareana was well attentive to us with a welcoming smile. Instantly likeable, the pair served up a traditional Greek Salad fresh baked bread and local drinks. What better reason to visit Kefalonia. Well worth the trip.

Experience authentic Greek cuisine at Karnagio Taverna, a charming eatery nestled right by the sea. Situated amidst beautiful eucalyptus trees, this traditional tavern is renowned for its homemade dishes and famous casseroles. It embodies the essence of an idyllic Greek restaurant, complete with classic blue chairs. Similarly, Taverna O Robolis in Poulata showcases a rustic ambiance and serves meat sourced directly from the village's own goats, pigs, and sheep.
Lovely food and atmosphere, very good seafood but also have a good means of meat and vegetarian options. The man speaks English and is very knowledgable about the menu and surrounding area. Really good traditional food. I definitely recommend getting the fresh fish. The staff are all super nice, especially Renato who made us laugh a lot. Would advise booking a table a day in advance to make sure you get a nice view of the sea.

Was reading good reviews about that restaurant so we decided to check it out while at Sami. We were not disappointed, best food we had in Kefalonia so far. Service is excellent as well.
Shai D — Google review
Maybe it was an off night. Kefalonia meat pie was pretty dry, baked cod dish was VERY salty, and perhaps the worst baklava I’ve ever had (dry and over cooked). Giving 2 stars as the view /atmosphere is very nice. Staff is friendly, it service is poor. Asked for ice 4 times, never got it and took a long time to get attention for desert / bill.
Doug M — Google review
We stopped here for a meal. The food was good and the portions were generous, but nothing special. Service was a bit slow. It wasn’t a bad experience, but I wouldn’t be in a hurry to come back
Olivia R — Google review
Great place to sit and have a meal. Meal was really nice. But waiting nearly an hour between starter and main is too long. We had one round of drinks, usually at least we have 3. We usually have dessert but we sat too long and couldn’t. My humble opinion not enough waiters for all the tables. Maybe a victim of their own success in providing good food.

Restaurant
Tereza Restaurant is a delightful dining spot in Sami, offering a refreshing change from the typical Greek cuisine found in the area. Situated near the ferry port with a charming marina view, this restaurant is known for its generous and delectable pizzas that provide great value for money. The relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff create a welcoming environment for visitors to enjoy their meals.
My wife ordered a pizza and I spaghetti with hot sausages. The pizza was extremely nice , better than the neighbours. I asked by the spaghetti hot sauce, they told me it is possible but the sausage is hot enough. They were Wright!! My wife was stunged by a wasp, and the staff immediately came with a creme and gave a helping hand. Oh yeah, the spaghetti was great!! So, good food and a perfect service!!! Yesterday we went for the second time. Both ordered a pizza, for me the special pizza without salami. It was perfect again!!!

During our visit to Sami on Kefalonia, we found an excellent restaurant with a wide and varied menu. Everything we ordered was fantastic — the shrimp dishes were fresh and flavorful, tzatziki was creamy and rich, and the pizza was simply the best we’ve had on the island: perfectly baked with fresh ingredients. The Aperol Spritz was refreshing and beautifully served, complementing the meal perfectly. The setting was calm, with lovely views of the sea and mountains, creating a truly relaxing atmosphere. Service was friendly and efficient, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommended if you’re looking for great food and a pleasant vibe in Sami!

The food here is delicious! We ate here 3 nights out of 10! My favourite was the beef calf, a must try if you haven't already. The mini chocolate ice creams they bring out after are really tasty and a really nice way to finish off the meal. But most importantly the service here is absolutely fantastic. The waiters are really friendly, happy to assist taking photos and giving advice about the island and they remember your face too. Will definitely be returning next year!

What a gem of a spot near Sami! We had an amazing dinner here – the setting right by the water made it feel like a little escape. The pizza was delicious, the cocktails were spot on, and the atmosphere was so calm and enjoyable. The real highlight, though, was the staff – incredibly friendly with outstanding service from start to finish. They made us feel genuinely welcome, and it added so much to the whole experience. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

Such a lovely little place! My partner and I came here after visiting melissani lake 10/10 would recommend. Both of our pastas were cooked beautifully I had a spicy tomato pasta and my partner had the fisherman’s pasta. They even got us some garlic bread even though it’s not on the menu. Our server was so kind and accommodating too. Would definitely recommend

We had great pizza here! The service was excellent. We went on a stormy night, so we had to be moved inside mid-way through dinner, but it was all handled very well. Would definitely recommend

A delightful restaurant which is family run. The traditional Greek food was delicious and the price very reasonable. They cater for vegetarians and for those afflicted with gluten intolerance. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was peaceful. Highly recommend.

What a cracking restaurant this is! Went for a walk one evening & found it...then went back 2 days later. Lovely environment to be sat in the square & feels 'upmarket/special' but is very reasonable and no pretense. Lovely staff, excellent fresh food and good portions. A real gem. Thanks 😊🇬🇷🍷

A solid restaurant with solid food. Considering that it is a restaurant and the prices are not low, more effort is needed with the food. Everything seems like fast food. The chicken salad seemed poor. Friendly tip - you can add some seeds and some fruit to the salad.

Our favourite place for dinner in Karavomylos, 100% recommend! All dishes we tried are truly house made and very delicious. If you are looking for a place to try Greek cuisine this is a must go place. Prices are reasonable. Staff is very friendly and attentive to all details to make your experience fully enjoyable.

We only had discovered this gorgeous restaurant on our last day and we had a fantastic meal, probably the best meal of all we had so far on the island! The starters were amazing (we ordered Saganaki Cheese, Feta Cheese with Honey and Sesame and of course Tzatziki), for our mains Swordfish and Grilled Veg Salad, which were very nicely served and for desert we had Baklava with ice creams. All we ordered was out of this world, service was exceptional, and when we go back to the island next year we plan to eat in this restaurant a lot as it is very reasonably priced.
Kasia D — Google review
Service and atmosphere good, but for me the food was lacking. Smash burger was extremely salty and dry, and needed a tonne of ketchup to get through it. The overall bill was also not particularly good value with all things considered.
Connor P — Google review
The food here was absolutely delicious. Loved the attention to detail, even down to de-veining the prawns. Portions were perfect, service was super quick, and the prices were surprisingly affordable for the quality. This was one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to in my life!
Cerys J — Google review
When we arrived, the waiter recommended ,,the special offer" means ,,risotto with shrimps". I put the bet on him but I've realised that the portion was so small for 21€ so the special offer is just to cheat us. The risotto was good but tthe portion was too small to ask for such a lot of money in the middle of nowhere. Also, we've got bread without ordering, to serve with risotto...

Maritime museum
The Nautical Museum of Sami is a testament to the rich naval history of Sami and Ancient Samins, with its mention in the Odyssey adding to its historical significance. The museum boasts stunning exhibits of wooden shipbuilding models that showcase the impressive craftsmanship of ancient maritime traditions. Visitors are treated to a special tour by the owner's son, who passionately shares his knowledge about the meticulously crafted boat models.
Truly a gem of a place, the model ships are of such a variety and are truly works of art. The owner and ship builder gave us a fascinating run through of the different technologies the boats had through the ages and answered our heaps of questions about the building process and how he works out the measurements and details from the original plans. I would definitely recommend a visit, we easily managed to spend an hour and a half, and easily could have spent longer. What a wonderful passion project!
Saskia F — Google review
If you ever find yourself visiting Kefalonia, do not miss this amazing museum! It's owned by the sweetest man that took 25 years to build this all by hand. It was an amazing experience, the craftsmanship is superb and he is full of knowledge! The ships are built to such detail, it's incredible!
Sylvana S — Google review
This place is amazing! You’ll be amazed by the phenomenal handwork of the ship models. The host is very friendly and can tell you stories, legends, and details about the boats and ships. If you don’t have much time, prioritize this over the caves. I truly regret visiting the caves instead of more time here!
Sgs P — Google review
The Nautical Museum of Sami is truly one of the finest museums I have ever visited! It is inspiring to see the collection of intricately hand-crafted vessels, each rich in detail, and to follow the fascinating story of maritime evolution over the years. A remarkable achievement by Mr. Sotiris, who dedicated countless years to creating this one-of-a-kind museum. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone visiting the island of Kefalonia!
Nikolas L — Google review
When you first walk in you see a lot of model boats, and think, oh that’s quite interesting. But then when you speak to the owner Sotiris, oh my goodness does the place come alive! He has built every one of the boats from original plans and by hand, and then he share some of the details and talks about so much else (I learnt lots about Archimedes, he was so much more than the guy who shouted Eureka in the bath). A completely enjoyable hour with an enthusiastic and passionate owner who he’s put his life and soul into creating such a treasure. Thankyou Sotiris, you made our day.
Karen B — Google review
Sweet museum kept by a ship passionate who has built the entire collection presented in the museum. The details of each ship is completely impressive. Highly recommend to visit !
JaidLoom — Google review
Incredible private museum of one man’s collection of hand built ship models spanning thousands of years. The builder is also the museum curator who can answer your questions while visiting. He has built these on his own, over a period of 25-30 years but the museum has been in existence for 5 or so years. Photos do not do this justice. It’s a must visit attraction when visiting the island, lots of parking available and affordable 5€ entry fee to support the museum and continued building of new vessels.
Jim K — Google review
In short, this place is a treasure. The model ships are not only expertly made, beautiful, but also extremely detailed. Photos do not do them justice, when you see them up close, you understand their true beauty and craftsmanship. It's clear that the owner and artist is a creative and technical genius. It's a wonderful experience for anyone that has the technical "knack", the curiosity to figure the function and form of things, and especially for those that love ships and sailing. However, the museum's true invaluable gem is the owner, Sotiris. Sotiris is a man that has spent years at sea, is a mechanic, a woodworker, a creative craftsperson that has the knowledge, culture and education to match his skills. He knows about geometry, physics, history, poetry, philosophy, he is a true homo universalis. He is soft spoken, friendly, accommodating, humble, and overall very pleasant person to tour the museum and chat with. I couldn't recommend this museum more. I believe that the museum should be highlighted more, and is a must to everyone's Kefalonia trips and vacations. Truly, truly truly a marvelous experience. If I could give this a higher score, I would.

Sami Trekking offers a variety of outdoor activities for all fitness levels, including walks, treks, running trails, and cycling trails. The experienced local guides provide guided bike tours around Sami Geopark, taking visitors to secluded caves, beginner-friendly mountain bike trails, a ghost village abandoned after an earthquake in 1953, and a farm near Sami where feta is made. The tour also includes breathtaking views and less touristy adventurous trails.
Our hiking trip to Mt. Ainos was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we started, it was clear that our guide was deeply passionate about the natural beauty and history of the area. Christos, our guide, set a comfortable pace, always attentive to the group’s needs and made sure everyone felt supported, regardless of their hiking experience. Reaching the peak was an unforgettable moment. The panoramic views over Kefalonia were breathtaking, and our guide took the time to help us appreciate the serene beauty around us. Highly recommend.

Wowzers! What a completely lush day! Lambros took us to a whole host of lesser known gems in the Kefalonia Geopark including some ghost villages, terrifying precipices and beautiful lakes. I’m not a very fit person and was very worried I wouldn’t keep up, but the e-bikes allowed me to get up the hills easily and enjoy adventure with my family! We enjoyed some delicious Kefalonian snacks and to top it all off, Lambros took us to a gorgeous glade and we had an unforgettable archery session! For any crazy people out there who like running, Lambros is also a very experienced trail runner and organises a Kefalonia Mountain Marathon. (It runs in September) He would be a great guide for anyone looking some off road HIT and adventure :-)

The e-bike rental service is run with incredible kindness and great professionalism. The bikes are high-quality and very well maintained, making the ride even more enjoyable. What’s even more unique is that the owner also runs a jewelry shop. His creations are remarkably fine and beautiful, true pieces of art. Whether you’re looking for an e-bike adventure or to discover exquisite jewelry, I can’t recommend this place highly enough!

We had a fantastic guided bike tour of Sami and around Sami Geopark with Lambros! He took us to a couple of secluded caves (like Melissani cave but no tourists), some fun but totally beginner-friendly mountain bike trails, a ghost village abandoned after the 1953 earthquake, and an amazing lunch at a farm near Sami where we saw how they make feta. Lambros took very good care of us, making sure everyone was comfortable and safe on the bikes. We had a mix of ebikes and regular mountain bikes (Orbea), all in great condition and well serviced. He is a great storyteller and gave us a window into life on this beautiful island.

Boat rental service
Kefalonia Compass Rent a Boat offers an unforgettable experience for exploring the inaccessible beaches of Kefalonia. The friendly and helpful staff take pride in their boats and provide good instruction on boat handling. The boats are fully equipped with powerful engines, making it easy to reach desired destinations quickly. Customers appreciate the clean, spacious boats and the thorough training provided by the staff. Additionally, the company's honest and kind service has left customers feeling grateful for their experience on the water.
Last year we rented 2 boats and we were absolutely fascinated by them. They were so clean and well maintained! Everything was prepared in advance - there was a cool box with ice and water, sun umbrella, mats and everything necessary to have one unforgettable day! The man renting the boats is so kind, funny and cute! About the sightseeing there is nothing to say - a real Paradise! I am so happy we had the chance to be there!
Stela B — Google review
We had a great experience renting a boat for the first time! The team was super friendly, knowledgeable, and gave us all the guidance we needed to feel comfortable. The boat was well equipped with a cooler, water, and beach gear. We were able to see beautiful quiet beaches that we never would have without renting a boat. Just make sure you’re back by 3:00 pm as the water gets fairly choppy. Highly recommend for a smooth, stress-free day on the water!

Absolutely recommend Compass boat hire! THE friendliest people, very calm in giving clear instructions for us complete beginners! We had the most magical experience exploring the different coves, swimming to explore caves, diving into the most stunning turquoise waters, an experience we will never forget! We paid for the highest insurance as naturally we are nervous of dodgy people, but we needn’t have worried - a genuine company and we will definitely use them again next time we visit - THANK YOU 🙏🏻

Great team - very responsive on WhatsApp, and great prices. Had an awesome day going across to Ithaca first, then down to Lazarus and back up the coast. Last stretch was very choppy as we made it back a little bit after when they suggested we return (we were having too much fun - got back 3.45 when they suggested to be back around 2.30). Highly recommend this if you’re visiting Kefalonia over Summer.
Mac C — Google review
I have been hiring speedboats for years and this was my best ever experience. They were responsive to my queries online in advance of my booking, were professional and thorough when I arrived and it was a nice boat in good condition. It’s also a great way to explore around Sami and Ithaki as there are lots of pretty small bays which are only accessible by boat.
Jeremy C — Google review
We decided to rent a boat for a day as a this was something we have never done before. We noticed Kefalonia Compass flags in Sami port and also noticed they have a fleet of well-maintained boats. We additionally checked their reviews online which were flawless, so the decision was not hard. As total novices in boating, we received great instructions from a staff member prior to our start. The boat was clean, the team also supplied a coolbox, with enough bottles of water for the day. We spent a great day on the boat, found some hidden bays and beaches….perfect. All-in-all a great experience with the team from Kefalonia Compass Rent a Boat. They were very friendly and helpful and everything was as promised. I fully recommend them if you are in the Sami area and interested in renting a boat.

The mediterranean restaurant Adonis offers great service and delicious food. The waiters are attentive and exceed expectations with their great customer service skills. Some of the dishes that patrons have enjoyed include the shrimp spaghetti and the fried cheese, which are both favorites. The chocolate pie is also a dessert favorite and is reminiscent of chocolate lava cake. Overall, this is a great restaurant that should be on your list if you're in Sami!
We came here after a busy morning at the nearby caves and Acropolis. We had a lovely table by the harbour, the food was fresh and delicious and the service was attentive. Would definitely recommend

Had dinner here and the service and food were amazing. My husband had beef stifado and the meat was tender and juicy, I had the chicken fillet in mushroom sauce, the chicken was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The only reason I gave 4 stars for atmosphere were because of wasps, which made it difficult to relax. The restaurant staff gave us an ashtray with burning coffee, which helped so much! Obviously wasps can’t be helped in Sami, the staff were very helpful with it though :)

Lovely spot for lunch on the harbour in Sami - excellent food and very friendly service. The gigantes beans, dolmades, octopus in vinegar, and lamb kleftiko were delicious and the staff were all lovely and helpful. Would recommend!

I had an exceptional lunch today – a seafood platter, stuffed eggplants with tomatoes and onions (mmm!), souvlaki, and pasta – all incredibly delicious! Even the lemonade had an outstanding flavor. The chef must have a secret! The waiting time was more than reasonable, which gave me the chance to take in the place: a seaside location, full of guests, despite many other tavernas nearby. Everyone seemed to want to eat here. The staff who served us were kind and always smiling. But the most important thing I found here was the authentic taste of the food – the eggplant dish, Imam, was absolutely delightful. I’d gladly return to this region anytime, just for another delicious meal like this! ❤️

A family owned restaurant by the sea! Variety of option to eat and very fresh ingredients and some great wine collection. Staff very very friendly. Would highly recommend some fresh grilled fish and sea food!!!
Sofia T — Google review
I ordered sardines which were fresh and served grilled with lemon. I can recommend 👌 those. The view was also lovely, looking at the boats moored up. Not over priced. Others in my party had reservations about their food (steak underdone, then overdone, moussaka cold inside, salad which had cucumber but shouldn't have had it as that wasn't in the description...oh dear...) but my fish dish was delicious 😋. Unfortunately, the complaints from some others on my table spoilt the overall ambience of the meal, (but they were right to complain about their food.) The waiter tried to make amends, bringing us free 🍉 which was kind, and drinks but no one was drinking as they had to drive/ didn't drink alcohol, which was a shame. Nice location. They also accommodated our group of 11 without a reservation. So, the service was very good.

Very good food but the portions were a little bit small for my chicken souvlaki for the price ( around 12€ for the chicken souvlaki and it was only one skewer while in other restaurants I went to, tastefully like this one, it was 2 or 3 skewers). The moussaka my sister took was delicious and the portion was really decent, same for the fried zucchini.

Gyro restaurant
Taka Taka Mam is a delightful gem nestled in Sami, where locals flock for its affordable and speedy service. This charming eatery offers a mouthwatering selection of burgers, chips, and the ever-popular gyros wrapped in pita. What sets it apart is the commitment to freshness; every dish is homemade daily, ensuring that you savor only the finest ingredients without any frozen substitutes.
Best Pork Gyros! I was the first customer at lunch time so it was a lovely full fresh pork gyros. This family owned family run Grill is a delight! Dad does the cooking on the grill, Mum the salads & dips and the daughter is the waitress. Delicious fresh homemade food cooked with love. Excellent! If you are in Sami make sure you dine here. Full of locals too which is always a great sign. Dog friendly. The pork gyros wasn’t as good when l went back for dinner. The pork was Luke warm, overcooked like it had been sitting there for sometime and dry sadly.

The food is absolutely delicious! We had a pork gyros and veal souvlaki and everything was sooo good!! The owners were really nice, we will be coming again!

Taka taka mam is the best restaurant ever, we did notice the Greek people eat here and also get takeaway food, so it must be good, Food ordered was absolutely spot on every time, the chef along with the other staff is amazing. Nicole and Papy are the owners, they are both so welcoming and kind, Nicole will happy bend over backwards to assist you and fully explain the different meals on the menu

I revisited the place after a few years since last time we were on the island . We had photos of our young (at the time ) boys enjoying their Kalamaki by the sea . Happy memories so we looked for the place again. Regrettably, I must address a concern that I hope management will take into consideration. Charging 6€ for a classic souvlaki, specifically a gyros with pita, is unjustifiable by any standard. For context, in the Netherlands, I am accustomed to paying between 9-10€ for a similar item, but there are crucial differences to note a) it’s significantly bigger and barely hand held b) one expects higher prices abroad I don’t mind about the wasp siege , that was bad timing and it can happen . I found the other plates we took decent (see photos) so all good there . However, the souvlaki in question, a pitta gyros that was far from exceptional, being priced at 50% above the typical street price in Greece, is difficult to rationalize. This pricing strategy reflects poorly on the establishment and is something I cannot overlook. Consequently, I would be hard-pressed to recommend this venue to locals or visitors seeking an authentic and fairly priced dining experience.

Great name! TAKA TAKA MAM. An unforgettable place where anyone can eat a souvlaki or a pork steak(highly recommended) by the sea view across the marina. Great flavors and customer experience. Highy recommended place. Best spot in Sami.

6 euro for a souvlaki, this is ridiculous!!! Just run away and do not eat there!!! All other places the same thing, better taste, better quantity for 4.5 euro!! Go and eat elsewhere!!

The restaurant ΤΟ ΡΑΧΑΤΙ ( Rahati ) offers a great variety of Mediterranean and Greek seafood dishes. The service is excellent and the atmosphere cozy. The tables are well spaced out, making it wheelchair accessible. It also serves alcohol, so it's great for social gatherings or date nights!
Many times it is easy to make a mistake in restaurants located on the sea, but this was a positive surprise! An authentic restaurant with a modern twist, the tastiest mouska we've ever eaten. The waiters were courteous and helpful and the atmosphere is authentic and excellent. Highly recommend

The food tasted great while we were eating it there but upset our stomachs the day after. I hope it was not related to the restaurant but just be careful and ask if it’s fresh. I couldn’t finish the sheep burger and tried to feed the stray cat with it and the cat didn’t eat it which made us laugh at the time. Now that I think about it, maybe the sheep burger wasn’t good, idk. Nice port views, friendly staff.

Visited August 2024 - Delicious and comforting rustic food in a great local restaurant who know how to flavour and cook meat. The meat koftas with fries is a very moorish dish, simple flavours but big on taste and tasted very fresh. The large dakos salad was equally as good, great quality tomatoes and feta and super fresh to eat. Highly recommend this place if you want simple, homely and delicious food to wind the evening down. The prices are very good, decent portion sizes and really good service.

ΑΓΡΟΚΤΗΜΑ ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟS ΓIAFIS - GEORGIOS GIAFIS FARM is a charming family-run agriturismo restaurant in Kefalonia, offering an authentic and organic dining experience. The farm's warm hospitality and genuine care for guests create a welcoming atmosphere.
Such a wonderful restaurant, so good we visited twice during our holiday. If you are staying at The Pericles hotel it is easy to walk to walk to but take a torch for the way home. The food is simply incredible. We had pork and chicken from the spit, lamb chops, salad and amazing cheese pie. The local red was lovely too. Something different from the restaurants in Sami and well worth a visit. The service from the family was impeccable. Thank you.

One of the most delicious meals I had in Greece. Perfect for lunch after beach. I tried the lamb with lemon in oven and it was perfectly made, and the checking ribs was so soft and tasty. The restaurant in a quite secluded area between the farms. Highly recommend for an authentic family farm dining.

Excellent service and quality of food. Great for a family meal. We would happily go back. Well worth the 5 minute drive from Sami.

Stunning food in a carefully looked after family business. Everything we ate was made with local products mostly produced by the owners themselves as they have their own farm and livestock. The food was perfectly cooked and served with care and love. The cheese pie, mutton chops and rotisseries stood out. I highly recommend this place if you want to taste genuine greek flavours in a warm and welcoming environment.

A family-run restaurant with products from their own farm. Recommended by several places. We ordered a beef chop and lamb ribs. The chop was tough and inedible, but the fried potatoes were amazing. The lamb chops were just okay. The cheese pie is unique and definitely worth it. We also ordered a bottle of red wine, but it was certainly not worth €35. The draft/ house wine was undrinkable.

Ancient Ruins
The Acropolis of Ancient Sami is a significant archaeological site located on the island of Kefalonia. It was a powerful city in ancient times, even mentioned by Homer in his epics. The Acropolis was situated on the mountain of Lapitha and has been fortified since the Paleolithic Age. The strategic location attracted Roman interest, leading to their invasion in 189 B.C.
The site is absolutely massive and it basically covers the entire hill. I'm not sure what the best way to start exploring is, depending on how much time you have on your hands and ...well, how much of a fantic you are. I took about 90 minutes to stroll around but i barely covered half of it. The site seems almost untouched, unexplored. There is rubble lying all around all the way from massive wall remains down to +supposedly) roof tiles. From what i read the city resisted Roman Siege for 4 months after which it was taken, razed and abandoned for good. I'm sure stone has been taken for construction over the years but the site really looks like something that saw a violent battle. With some imagination, you can almost feel it. I visited during sundown which was perfect. Not too hot and photos were okay. Highly recommended if you're into ancient history type of stuff
Michal B — Google review
Whilst a lot of the Acropolis is gone the views are stunning, and what is left of the stones is impressive. Short walk from the road, highly recommended but loses one star as they really need to replace the damaged old signs so you can read about it. Definitely recommended though
Ian M — Google review
Astonishing views and truely beautiful, it's a bit hard underfoot so definitely not flip flops. Not for those with poor mobility. There are really only traces left of the Acropolis on both hills with more to see on the castle hill, the castle appears to be constructed of robbed out blocks of stone from the defencive walls. A great walk
Richard W — Google review
A nice, mostly unexcavated archaeological site, with some impressive structures. The views from it are spectacular. Park next to the sign for the Kastro, and be prepared for a moderately challenging hike. Take a pole or walking stick if you have one. We went early in the morning in October and saw some wasps, but not bad.
Howard B — Google review
A wonderful experience. We were alone up there with the history of the place almost tangible. A slightly challenging climb if you’re mobility challenged like me, but good, safe paths if a little rough under foot in places. The views of Sami Bay and harbour alone are worth the walk and there’s shade under the trees.
Kerry B — Google review
An absolutely beautiful place to visit. It's at the top of a walking trail overlooking Sami, the trail to get there is very moderate to hard, take plenty of water during the hot season. Once you get there you are greeted to an ancient Mycenaean city (1400-1100BC) who seemed to have been very well organised with massive stone blocks scattered around the mountain site the entrance is facing east to west, I checked my compass on my phone so sunrise must be amazing, if you carry on walking along the path around the city you'll see a massive stone wall slopeing down a steap hill, the views of Sami are amazing to while walking the path around the city.
Ryan — Google review
Good road up the mountain then a 200m walk up rocky terrain to reach a good level plateux. Not much left of the Acropolis but the views over Sami Bay are incredible. Definitely worth the trip. No admission charge.
Keith K — Google review
A scramble up, but then fabulous views over Sami and other parts of Kefalonian coast. Not much of the ancient monument has survived, but a set of steps were impressive

Public beach
Loutro Beach in Kefalonia is a picturesque spot located near Sami and Antisamos beach. The beach is surrounded by lush green hills and offers crystal-clear waters with an interesting seabed, making it perfect for snorkeling and swimming. While the beach lacks amenities like sunbeds and a beach bar, it provides a more natural experience for visitors. However, the rocky terrain requires water shoes for entry into the clear and warm waters.
Very nice beach Has a shower which does have a lot of wasps surrounding it Be careful in the rocks as there are crabs
Lilian N — Google review
Lovely peaceful beach with pine trees to the shore, crystal clear waters and fantastic views to Ithaca. We initially drove past this beach on our way to Antisamos beach, which is absolutely stunning whilst at the same time also being a living nightmare (paradise lost?). We immediately turned on our heels, got back into the car and drove to back Loutro for a quick dip. (.... it has a handy fresh water shower as well)
Dominic V — Google review
Look at the size of this beach. Quite a bit if shade when we came, so followed the sun, and couldn't believe that a mardy English couple (the boy) complained I was too close to him.
Lynne A — Google review
Clean sea, must be careful with small children goes deep quickly. Does have a shower on the beach and there is a changing cubicle on the other side of the road. Canteen selling refreshments close by.
Sarah H — Google review
Just a few people, directly on the main road. Just beware of sea urchins!
Rodrigo B — Google review
Very nice, small beach by the road. We visited with a group of tourists and literaly walked down from the bus to the water. The beach rocky and the entrance in the water also so water shoes are must. The water is clear and warm, good for snorkeling. No sunbeds, music and beach bar, just the waves from the ferries.
Alice V — Google review
Our first beach we visited on Kefalonia. Beautiful view on Ithaka. Most likely in the evening, during sunset (but you will not see the sunset itself, couse beach oriental to north-north-west, and mountains on the west will obstruct).

Beautiful view to the island of Ithaca. Good place for snorkeling, but not recommended to families with small children because of the deep water. There are many sea urchins as well, so a swimming shoe is highly recommended here.

The bar is known for its great cocktails, stylish staff, and excellent music selection, making it a cool place to hang out and chill under the trees.
By far the best cocktail bar in town. It's really worthy to relax in a really great garden atmosphere with a cold handmade cocktail (especially the signatures). As for the staff there is only one word to describe them: professionals.

Fantastic bar with great selection of drinks especially ‘adult cocktails’🍸 (none of that teenage sugary pitcher jugs of alcopop nonsense). Friendly staff and chilled atmosphere vibes. The music playing was what drew us in - from classic rock to 90’s indie. Highly recommended for those who want to spend the evening sipping, chatting and enjoying great music 🍸🍹🧉🍻

We stumbled across this lovely bar on a meander down the street just behind the harbour. It was a proper find, away from the busy harbour restaurants and feel more people should know about it! Much thought had gone into their drinks menu. Great to find such a quality range of non-alcoholic cocktails, which were some of the best. We came back 4 times during our stay as it was lovely and quiet and needed more time to get through their outstanding cocktail list. The two bar owners were very welcoming with great playlists and a chilled atmosphere. Complete with resident ginger 🐈

It was a really nice place to stop - we just had coffee and were recommended the freshly baked Orange Cake. Our waitress also told us the cake was best with ice cream - she was right. A friendly and smiley lady at the entrance invites for the best breakfast in town. Good, because I'm a breakfast person. Breakfast is my favourite and most important meal of the day. So I had high hopes. I ordered avocado toast and I was disappointed. Ok, I expected (I usually ask but this time I forgot) a mashed avocado with some spices, lemon or onion... What I got for 9 euro was a slice of bread with cream cheese and few slices of avocado on bed of rocket salad. I ordered extra fried egg but it still didn't help. I don't give 3 stars for avocado, because I could have asked. But I give 3 stars for value for money... The toast was too simple, like anyone can do it and most importantly, even with extra egg it didn't fill me up. Not even close. Good points - service was good and fast, and the lady was apologetic for my disappointment in food, although I didn't like she tried to convince me that sliced avo is better because it's fresher... Mash avo also can be fresh too.

Fantastic place right on the waterfront for brunch. Service is brilliant, welcomed in and very accommodating. Great selection - food and coffee were both great. Can’t recommend Afrala enough.

Greek restaurant
The Greek restaurant Faros Taverna is a great place to get seafood, Mediterranean food and Greek diner fare. The breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner menus offer a variety of choices for everyone. The restaurant has outdoor seating and is wheelchair accessible. It accepts American Express, Mastercard and Visa payments.
I was a bit reluctant to enter, as there were just 2 people sitting there, while the restaurant next to it was occupied - and this is typically not a good sign. I was wrong! The cuisine appeared to be very good and prices reasonable. I had nice melizanosalata (grilled aubergine paste) and a full, delicious sea bass (nicely seasoned with herbs and garlic). The service was very good, too. The waiter seeing me being harassed by wasps rushed to defend me with a special repellent: smoldering coffe. It worked :)

Great food at a beautiful spot by the harbour. A hot night and a busy restaurant with attentive service. Can I say that portions were on the large side and even though my Kafalonia meat pie was superb, guide books advised that it would not come with anything else, so when it came with salad and fries, our extra Greek salad became superfluous. No matter, as a doggy bag appeared and we enjoyed it the next day. (And the homemade Lemoncello was superb but don’t tell anyone)

Great dinner. Food was all tasty, we had vine leaves and calamari which were both excellent. Followed by moussaka and swordfish which were both delicious. Great local wine and helpful service

We are italians and we can say that the quality of the food here is excellent. Typical greek cuisine, a great choice and reasonable prices. It is twice we come here and the owner is always present to ensure personally that you enjoy their dishes as well as their service. Finally, we appreciate the location... You eat few meters away from the sea with the view on the sunset colors.

Soulatso Grill House is a great place to eat in the off-season when riding your bike. The owner has suggestions for what's fresh and available, and makes a great meal in 10 minutes. It's unpretentious and very good, with excellent value for money. I highly recommend it.
This place is absolutely amazing! The service was great and the people are very friendly. This is the best gyro I’ve had in all of Greece! Definitely treat yourself to Soulasto or you’re making a mistake!

Stuart B — Google review
Cheap place, we stopped here for lunch today. Had a gyro and a plate of suvlaki.

Stopped here for a Gyros and it took 40min for a chicken Gyros wrap. Wasn't busy, 4 customers at the time of ordering, another 4 come and got their food before ours come. And to be honest it wasn't great. Would I go again? No. Would I recommend? No.
Chris K — Google review
Absolutely delicious mouthwatering gyros 🥙 we had pork and chicken. Different options to choose from. Great value street food with table area overlooking port harbour
C3 P — Google review
Hadn’t long arrived in Sami and just went for a stroll on the harbour and fancied a quick before heading home. Service was warm and the Gyros was exactly what was needed. No fuss.
