The V&A Waterfront, situated in Table Bay Harbour at the foot of Cape Town City Centre, is a sprawling complex that encompasses residences, commercial establishments, dining venues, retail outlets and an art museum. Spanning over 123 hectares and divided into five distinct sections, it offers an array of more than 450 stores catering to diverse interests from local crafts to international brands. Fantastic! A superb afternoon! Outdoorsy, bustling with energy, live singers, gaming, awesome art installations, multiple spots of interactive and engaging areas from live sports to seal spotting. Too many restaurants options, something for everyone. An inclusive and community space, that is safe and easy to wander. You’re guaranteed to find something kitschy around every corner! Loved it! Highly recommend!!!

Amazing displays and well layed out. Nice areas to sit and rest or spend time infront of large glass aquariums. Some touch displays and steps for the little ones to have a better view.

The waterfront is so beautiful to behold. It has so many shops with a variety of different items to purchase and there is a wide range of eateries to pick from. There various boats of all shapes and sizes on the port. I was able to enjoy a sunset cruise from a boat company that offer them on the waterfront. The hop and off tour company also offer a sunset cruise in one of their packages.

A great vibe place in Cape Town located on the waterfront. There is a lot to do including an art gallery, aquarium, live music and dance performances, a swing style bridge, a large shopping centre and a range of souvenir shops and restaurants including a budget friendly food court. There is a supermarket on the basement level of the shopping centre. Be sure to check out the Cape Town Frame, clocktower and the seal landing areas.

The V&A waterfront is ever changing but there are a few must try places. Baia, Servruga, Methos, Tang and CTFM are must try restaurants. Lovely atmosphere. Summer and spring are the best. For Fragrances, must try Skins Cosmetics.

Just a really great place to take a walk and relax, plenty of options when it comes to dining or just having a drink with most offering great views. The general stores also offer a wide variety of shopping options for both locals and tourists.

Lovely spot to walk around especially if you have friends or family visiting that are not from Cape Town. Some places can be a little more expensive but you paying for the view and the atmosphere. It feels like you are on holiday when you go to the waterfront.

A vibey shopping, dining and touristy place with a bunch of things to do. The views are spectacular, there is a children's play area, shops of all kinds and even boat rides. The place to be even at night. There is always a buzz of activity here. Don't forget to visit the aquarium while here

The Cape Wheel is a 40-meter observation wheel with 30 air-conditioned, enclosed cabins that offer stunning panoramic views of Cape Town and the V&A Waterfront. It's a popular spot for romantic proposals, offering versatile options to visit during sunny days or magnificent sunsets. The experience lasts 12-15 minutes and provides breathtaking views of the city and the ocean, including the famous Robben Island.
Smooth and pleasant ride along with the family. Thankfully there was no waiting time at all. Staffs were polite and helpful. We even purchased the photos which was reasonably priced for a touristic place.

What a cool experience on the Cape Town waterfront. Wonderful views of Table Mountain, the waterfront and all different views. Minimal wait, Sunday afternoon in winter, and you go 4-5 times around The Cape Wheel. We did the Cape Wheel with the Double-decker bus package, well worth the extra money.

Even if you buy a ticket online you still have to go to the ticket booth to get a printed ticket. The ride is about 10 minutes, or 4 rotations. You get great views of the area.

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
The Two Oceans Aquarium, located at the V&A Waterfront, is a captivating indoor aquarium and conservation center that provides an immersive experience for visitors. It offers a variety of exhibitions and interactive opportunities for children to learn about marine life. The facility is home to a diverse array of sea creatures from both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, including sharks, stingrays, jellyfish, turtles, and colorful fish.
We went on a Tuesday morning. There was no queue to get in and 2 of pur guests had free access because it was their birthday month. It was quite busy as there were several school groups going through but it wasn't unpleasantly busy. There are a few interactive sections, and displays low down so children can see. We saw penguin feeding and shark feeding and the kids loved it! There is a good variety of sea animals to see too. It is stroller/wheelchair friendly. Parking is across the road. We gave our kids disposable cameras and they took really cute photos and it was a great activity for them. Would highly recommend this as a kids activity (but also good for adults).

One of the best places I’ve ever visited! As a sea and fish lover..it felt like a dream.. I spent almost three hours enjoying every detail.. The jellyfish room is so artistic and beautiful! Staff are very friendly..I visited twice — the first time was much better..since the second visit was too crowded with school trips..My advice: avoid peak hours for the best experience…

Loved learning about the different kinds of fish in the SA ocean bed. A very large aquarium. Largest I’ve ever seen and experienced. I applaud the team for putting it together - I think a lot of thought went into its planning. A very nice experience.

We have been here many times and this was amazing like any other time. My children absolutely love this place. We recommend going after 15:00 because the prices are so much cheaper. Very clean and helpful staff, the tanks were well maintained as well.
Rory B — Google review
This was a choice because of the bad weather, but then we realized this must be a key highlight of Cape Town when you visit the city. It's a real blast! Super recommended!!! Everything is so clean and well maintained - kudos to the workers and the management. You can find almost every species of what belongs to the sea.
Black_bourbon87 — Google review
What an experience. It was worth the entrance fee, they have made so many beautiful fish tank displays. Everyone enjoyed it thoroughly. Lots of interesting activities for young children, many knowledgeable attendants to explain everything.
Lyle W — Google review
Such a beautiful place to visit. We went on Monday 27th October 2025. Tranquil and calm if you love watching fish swim. The layout is so easy to follow. You literally keep following the passage. There is no way you can get lost. We went after 3. Managed to get the reduced price of R200pp - which is really super. There was a person giving a lecture on the sea life and how the sea litter is devasting for the sea turtles. I honestly don't know or understand why or how vessels or people can chuck litter into the sea. But, unfortunately, SA has a huge litter problem in general. I loved the 'Nemo' (clownfish) tank. It has a crawlspace which allows you to just pop your head up into a dry glass bowl. So it looks like you are inside the tank with the fish. I saw so many amazing sea creatures which I honestly (at my old age) did not know existed. There were some "elusive" creatures which you had to really look hard to find - especially the Octopus - it literally looked like the rocks it was just chilling in and minding its own business. There was also a frog that was hiding away - but we found. There was one tank that was supposed to have something in, but we definitely could not find it. I really should have taken pics of the descriptions as well as the creatures- so don't make the same mistake we made. There are some seating spots available on the route to sit and watch the penguins or the fish in the big tank. Two or three of the penguins looked like they had recently been rescued (i only know that because of the penguin rescue centre in the city I am from). The only part i did not like was a couple who were posing right in front centre of the huge fish tank with the sharks - they were in everyone's way who were trying to take pics or vids of the sharks swimming past. I just feel they should have been more to the right side or waited till less people were around. We probably spent just over an hour and a half inside. And spent time looking around the shop which had so many soft stuffed sharks, Octopus, t-shirts, cups, postcards etc.

Love the free pass during your birthday month. It’s available for adults as well. The jellyfish exhibit is possibly the best thing ever. Have an edible or a spliff before you go, you’ll experience a sensory overload.

Outdoor Activities
Muizenberg Beach is a hidden gem in Cape Town, known for its brightly painted beach huts that make it a popular spot for surfers and beachgoers. The beach boasts an active surfing community and is considered the home of surfing in South Africa. With its pristine white sand and colorful huts set against the backdrop of mountains, it's a picturesque location perfect for capturing vibrant photos.
Our favourite beach during our visit to Cape Town. One thing was that it was a lot less crowded than the likes of Camps Bay or any of the other beaches. We also felt a lot safer, and weren't constantly being bothered by beach vendors trying to flog their wares. It is a magnificent beach. A long beach with white sand and blue water. It was spotlessly clean. Muizenberg is Surfer's Corner after all, so you can expect a lot of people in the water, surfing or swimming. We visited out of tourist season and so it was relatively empty. There are plenty of cafés, coffee shops and restaurants across the road. Parking can be a bit of an issue during busy times, and signs indicated that thieves do operate in the area targeting the vehicles. But we saw policemen patrolling the street on a regular basis. The views are simply stunning. And the Shark Spotters Information Centre is somewhere you must visit and take you kids along with you! The folks at Shark Spotters are so friendly and will gladly explain what they do to keep bathers safe and help dispel some of the myths about these fantastic creatures and the reason why white shark conservation is so important.

Visited the Muizenberg Beach for the colorful huts and loved every moment of it!!! Brightly painted beach huts: These iconic, colorful huts are a distinctive feature of the beach and a popular photo spot. Surfers' Corner: Muizenberg is considered the main surfing spot in Cape Town, especially known for its gentle, rolling waves, making it ideal for beginners. Several surf schools and surf shops are located in the area. Warmer waters: The waters at Muizenberg Beach are generally warmer than those on the Atlantic Seaboard, making it a pleasant swimming spot. Blue Flag status: The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status since 2008, signifying its high standards for safety, recreational facilities, and environmental management.

That is probably one of the most well known spot in South Africa with pictures being featured in many travel/airlines magazines over the late decades. Must visit. If you're an avgeek, you might be lucky to spot an aircraft approaching CPT airport, here 744 BA which I coincidently landed with at the time.

The famous colorful beach huts. The sand is soft, the water’s clean, and there are lifeguards on duty, so it feels safe. Whether you want to surf, swim, or just chill and enjoy the view, this beach has it all. Loved the laid-back atmosphere!

Its the back of Table mountain so so beautiful views. I want to move here for the view. The most beautiful views. So clean. Sea and mountains nothing more beautiful then this.
Jevonné M — Google review
Muizenberg Beach is one of my absolute favorite spots in Cape Town! The long stretch of soft sand and gentle waves make it perfect for swimming, surfing, or just relaxing by the water. It has a really fun, laid-back vibe — great for families, beginners learning to surf, or anyone looking to enjoy a classic beach day. The colorful beach huts give it so much character, and there are plenty of cafés and surf shops nearby, so it’s easy to grab a coffee or a bite after your swim. The beach is well-kept and the lifeguards make it feel safe. Parking can get busy on weekends, but it’s totally worth it for the atmosphere and views. A must-visit when you’re in Cape Town!
Hannah A — Google review
I loved this beach! The waters are slightly warmer and the waves are gentle and great for surfing! There are a lot of surfers at this beach. You could just swim all day!

The beach ⛱️ so cool 😎 and very nice. The tide is lower so people can swim 🏊‍♂️ even more inside the sea. The colorful small houses 🏘 😍 ✨️ are amazing, but people are spoiling the wood. Needs to be taken care of and more maintains with proper management. The visitors are messing and making dirty the beach. Littering everywhere and not willing to throw the waste in the bins 😠😡. If not, take care of this beach will go worse very soon.

Tashas Waterfront is a delightful dining destination that promises to elevate your culinary experience any time of day. Known for its extensive breakfast menu, you can indulge in fluffy free-range scrambled eggs paired with smoked salmon trout and chives or savor the mascarpone French toast topped with mixed berries. The restaurant's artisan approach shines through in every dish, offering everything from healthy Mediterranean options to hearty fried favorites.
Lovely spot to have a bite. We decided to enjoy the patio for our lunch because the weather was just perfect. Service was good, food was tasty, and the portions were large.... actually a bit too large! Prices very reasonable. All the staff were extremely friendly too. Note: there is no wifi available to patrons.

Tasha’s is one of those rare spots where everything just feels right. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by a cozy and beautifully designed interior and a welcoming staff—a perfect blend of elegance and comfort that makes you want to stay longer. The food is truly delicious, crafted with care and full of flavor. Every dish looks as good as it tastes, and the quality is consistent every time. I also tried one of their smoothies, and it was incredibly refreshing—perfectly balanced and naturally sweet. Whether you're coming for breakfast, lunch, or a casual meet-up, Tasha’s delivers a memorable dining experience that keeps you coming back. Highly recommended!

Great restaurant with good ambiance. The restaurant is located in a big shopping mall and is near the big Cape Town wheel for having a scenic experience on the wheel. The shopping mall itself has all types of brand shops and shops for local handicrafts. The dining area is quite bid and is well furnished with taste. I visited the restaurant at dinner town and ordered a beef Steak. Food was very good and the service was very efficient. Presentation of the food was good.
Zafar K — Google review
I recently visited Tashas for a light lunch and ordered the Chicken and Pumpkin Salad a dish that sounded both hearty and refreshing. I was not disappointed. 🥗The salad was beautifully presented, as expected from Tashas. Generous slices of tender grilled chicken sat atop a bed of mixed greens, roasted pumpkin, avocado, and toasted seeds, all lightly dressed in what tasted like a lemon-honey vinaigrette. The pumpkin was the star: roasted just right—soft, sweet, and slightly caramelized. It paired surprisingly well with the savory chicken. The portion was fair, leaning toward generous, making it satisfying as a full meal. I especially liked the balance of textures: soft pumpkin, creamy avocado, crunchy seeds. The grilled chicken added the right protein punch without feeling heavy.
Ro S — Google review
Tashas Waterfront has a convenient location and friendly staff, which makes it an easy stop. Unfortunately, the tables weren’t very clean and the cortado was below standard. The Chicken Crunch Salad had nice flavours, but the chicken itself was very dry. Overall, not the best experience, but also not the worst, a very middle-of-the-road visit.

Nestled above the bustling V&A Waterfront, Terrarium Restaurant is a hidden gem that embodies Chef Chris Erasmus's passion for sustainable and organic cuisine. This intimate dining space at the Queen Victoria Hotel boasts breathtaking views and features a kitchen garden filled with indigenous plants and herbs. The restaurant emphasizes community by sourcing ingredients from small, family-run fisheries, butcheries, smokers, and beekeepers. The ambiance is elegant yet cozy, enhanced by soft lighting and high ceilings that create an inviting atmosphere for diners.
This was absolutely excellent!! What a wonderful experience. The food was amazing. Really really well put together menu, the dessert and ceviche was the stars of the show...(would leave out the cheese course before dessert). Thank you! Will definitely go back!

Wow, we truly enjoyed the Flora and Fauna menus, we had to have one of each between us so we could try everything. Our server Alan was amazing and we had an unforgettable experience getting to know him and his passion. The wine pairings were out of this world, all local wines. The restaurant also gave us a lovely surprise.

On our journey throughout our African vacation this restaurant still stands out as the best place that we had dinner in three weeks. It was beyond exceptional. We tried both à la carte and also the Flora and Fana. Wow. I cannot say enough amazing things about this restaurant. For anyone that lives near this hotel and is able to go to Terrarium regularly, we are jealous. If you have not been, you have to go. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Full score!! Impeccable food and good service at very reasonable prices. What a find! Chef Erasmus came out to explain some of his small plate masterpieces which really didn’t need much explaining because the taste of each and every dish did all the explaining. Honestly one of the best lunches I’ve had in a while. The standout dishes were the beets with fennel, tom yum yellowtail ceviche, tomato tartare and melt in your mouth brisket with creamy mash. Five plates were sufficient to share between two people, but in hindsight most plates were too good to share! I can’t wait to try the evening fixed menu.

We had the most amazing experience here at Terrarium. We had the fauna tasting and pairing menu which was also exceptionally adapted to suit my mum’s needs (no dairy, eggs or wheat). The evening was made even better by our wonderful server Zamaica, she was knowledgeable, fun and accommodating. Thank you all so much!

Got this recommendation from a chef who's food I love. It's in the Queen Victoria Hotel and they seemed a bit chaotic when we got there. That said, it was definitely the best meal I've had on the continent of Africa so far. Every single course was amazing. Attention to detail. Great waiter (Alan) and support staff, imaginative, beautifully plated, a meal that anywhere else would have been $100-$200 pp. Stand out was the cold Tom Yom Gai Ceviche. Actually, all of it was amazing

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this small, cozy restaurant hidden in the Victoria waterfront, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. The fine dining at this establishment is truly top-notch, with every dish being absolutely delicious. The staff service was also amazing, with attentive and friendly servers who made sure our dining experience was nothing short of perfect. The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall charm, making it a truly special place to enjoy a meal. Belgian restaurant
Den Anker is a charming restaurant located at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, offering a delightful harbourside terrace with stunning views of Table Mountain and passing yachts. The restaurant has an airy and relaxed atmosphere, making it the perfect spot to enjoy Belgian beers and high-quality seafood dishes such as freshly caught fish, mussels, oysters, crayfish, and scallops. The friendly and attentive staff add to the intimate feel of the place.
I was honestly delighted with the attentive service. Just the right amount of making sure I'm fine without disturbing too much. They have a decent variety of wines and the waitress was helpful in selecting one for my taste. Had a goat cheese salad and a waffle for dessert. I can recommend both, however be prepared - the waffle portion was huge, you might wanna order the smaller option. Few more vegetarian or vegan options on the menu would be great.

The views here are stunning, and the selection of Belgian beers is impressive. The tasting option is a great way to sample a variety. The food didn’t disappoint either—we had the sirloin and the hake, both of which were good.

A beautiful location with a lovely view of the mountain and boats, the drinks were well made and the service was fine as the place was busy. I was, however not a fan of the food, it looked good but didn't taste as good, the place is also quite. pricey, but it has good vibes.

Very nice service, sat outside by the wharf. Ordered a few starters and some drinks. The mussels were fresh & delightful. The tempura prawns were so so. Prawns are tiny, bland and greasy. My mocktail, Berry Blaze was delicious. Pricing was fare.

I visited Den Anker after asking if they served pancakes, and they confirmed that they did. We sat down around 10 a.m. today the place was calm and there were only two other occupied tables. I ordered pancakes and a coffee latte, but surprisingly, the order took around 45 minutes to prepare. I became quite frustrated and asked to cancel the order. However, I appreciated the respectful and polite way they handled it, the manager came over and offered us complimentary drinks as an apology for the delay. When the food finally arrived, I was surprised to see it was actually crêpes, not pancakes as I had asked. I didn’t say anything and just ate it, then left. I don’t think I’ll be returning to this place again.

Enjoyed a lovely dinner at Den Anker as part of our visit to Cape Town. The food was delicious, the service friendly and attentive (thank you, Quinton!), and a very upbeat positive vibe to the space. We shared the lobster croquettes as a starter and then moved onto the Pork Belly for my partner and Bobotie for me. Both we excellent. Portions are generous enough we didn't have room for dessert. At a restaurant notable for serving Belgian beer, the choice was obvious. My partner had Duvel, and I had a bottle of Cherry Chouffe. I would suggest making a reservation to avoid missing out. We did get a table as walk-ins, but it was the last one available at that moment. Quinton was great! Highly recommended! June 26, 2025 C & J

Unfortunately, my recent visit was underwhelming. The pork belly was dry and tough, lacking the tenderness and flavor one would expect. The fish and chips were bland and forgettable, and the Caesar salad also missed the mark in terms of taste and freshness. Service was adequate, but overall, the experience did not justify a return visit. I've been there, done that — and I won’t be going back. There is definite room for improvement across the board.

Restaurant
Located at the V&A Waterfront, PIER Restaurant is a recent addition to the La Colombe group. With Head Chef John Norris-Rogers at the helm, this seaside dining spot offers a menu inspired by the ocean and features 12 tasting dishes that showcase elements of molecular gastronomy and classic French technique. The restaurant, situated on the first floor of the Pierhead Building, provides stunning views of the iconic Waterfront harbor through its floor-to-ceiling windows.
Generally a very pleasant experience. Wonderfully bright location and nice view over the harbor. Service and food presentation was excellent. Some dishes were better than others; the lamb was a highlight for me.

A cozy and elegant restaurant with a beautiful harbor view. The food was good and the service was truly excellent. I especially loved their traditional tequila , definitely a highlight of the evening.

It is a high-end fine dining establishment, where the food is an art form. The tasting menu features small, precise portions with complex and delicate flavors. The use of custom ceramic plates shaped like corals and shells suggests a focus on natural textures, while the spectacular service completes the unique experience with spectacular views of the waterfront.

Absolutely incredible experience at Pier for our first night in Cape Town for our honeymoon. Daud served us with class, humor, and education all rolled into one. The food was to die for, the presentation incredibly beautiful, and the vibe classy yet approachable. Would recommend 10/10 times!!

If you want a Michelin grade, top 50 restaurants in the world, head to the Pier, top level, you will never regret it. You will get a chef menu (also vegetarian) that is competing with the best Michelin in Europe and beyond. Highly recommended ! And the price compared to London and New York is absolutely an regular restaurant everywhere else!

Canal Walk Shopping Centre is a premier retail destination with stunning architecture and an impressive array of over 400 stores, restaurants, and entertainment options. As the largest shopping mall in Cape Town and the third largest in Africa, it offers a diverse selection of clothing stores, luxury boutiques, bookshops, electronic outlets, and more. Visitors can also enjoy a movie theater and various entertainment areas. The center provides a unique shopping experience with its blend of traditional retail and leisure activities.
I think Canal Walk is one of the best Mall I’ve ever visited. It’s beautiful, huge with a lot of shops, restaurants, fast food and cinema. If you go there you will enjoyed the Mall and its design. The outside is just fabulous with nice views.

As the first mall I visited on my vacation in South Africa, Canal Walk set an incredibly high standard. The selection of shops is fantastic, with well-stocked stores for everything from clothing to home essentials. I was impressed by the fair pricing, finding great value across the board. The beautiful food court offers a wonderful variety of tastes in a lively atmosphere. For a complete and enjoyable shopping experience, I highly recommend it.

Love shopping here, parking is convenient and plenty of parking, huge selections on specialty items and so many options to shop for deals. I shopped for the entire family, and even found a child size 4 rugby boot on sale at Tekkie Town, and then relaxed at Mugg & Bean for hours having one of their favorite soups.

I visit this place to see “Landscape of the Soul” by Anton Smith. This juxta position of 500 masks, protruding from a 33 metre long wall, three metres high, is an impressive sight to behold in its entirety. But as you step closer, you see that every face is fragmented. Peaceful route for walk. River is surrounded by beautiful parks and flowers.

Flea & Street Markets
The Old Biscuit Mill Market is a trendy destination located in Cape Town's Woodstock neighborhood. It features fashionable boutiques, food markets, and restaurants within an industrial-style setting. The highlight of the market is the Neighbourgoods Market, which takes place on weekends and offers a direct buying experience from local designers and artisans. The market serves as a community for talented individuals to collaborate and showcase their passions, including food, art, clothing, and homemade goods.
Very cool and worth a visit. Great shops, really great food (go to Pot Luck Club you will thank the gods you did). And there’s something for everyone. Got lots of cool gifties and some dope clothes that were suspiciously well priced. Gets super lively as of late afternoon with live music, dancing and great beer and cocktails for a tipsy walkabout. Also a great Maryjane store right down the road if that’s your thing.
Melissa M — Google review
The Old Biscuit Mill definitely has a unique and vibrant vibe — lots of shops, galleries, and food stalls, all packed with character and local creativity. The fresh coconut I tried was tasty and refreshing, perfect for a hot day! However, the market could really benefit from better cleanliness and organization. The layout feels a bit chaotic, with little direction or signage, making it easy to get lost. Some of the food stalls also seemed to operate in less-than-food-safe conditions, which was disappointing considering the overall reputation of the place. Still, it’s worth visiting for the atmosphere and local experience — just go with an open mind and low expectations on hygiene and structure.
Larochelle V — Google review
Lots to see and do here, variety of shops, eateries, coffee shops, dining areas. Not too touristy, although you can get gifts from here as we did. We spent an afternoon in here shopping, my wife bought some gifts, and we ended up dining here which was relaxing And enjoyable.

Very good spot to buy some local work - clothes, craftsman work, paintings and more. It’s not the cheapest place and it does close early in the day (as most things in Cape Town). However, you can find quality products so it could be worth the visit.

I recently had the opportunity to dine at The Old Biscuit Mill Market and the experience was impressive from start to finish. The restaurant has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with décor that creates a relaxed yet elegant setting. The service was excellent — staff members were attentive, polite, and made helpful recommendations. The menu offered a wide selection of dishes, catering to both traditional tastes and modern preferences. I order meal which was well-prepared, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The portion sizes were generous, and the prices were fair given the quality of the food. Overall, The old Biscuit Mill Market provides a well-rounded dining experience that combines delicious food, great service, and a pleasant environment. I would gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable meal.
Violet M — Google review
The Neighbourgoods Market located at The Old Biscuit Mill is a fun day out for people who want to meet up with friends for some food and drinks, listen to an artist perform, and buy some home made goods, fresh produce, etc. There are many different stalls with food options catering to most dietary preferences. The market is also dog friendly, as long as your dog is well behaved. There isn’t any parking on the premises, so you have to find a spot to park outside on the street or in one of the side roads, but there are usually parking attendants showing you where you can park.

Art museum
The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, or Zeitz MOCAA, is a must-visit destination for art lovers exploring Cape Town. This innovative museum is uniquely situated in a transformed grain silo at the V&A Waterfront, making it an architectural gem. It showcases an impressive array of contemporary African art through dynamic exhibits and installations by both emerging and established artists. The vibrant atmosphere of Cape Town as an art hub enhances the experience, with its thriving galleries and rich cultural scene surrounding you.
My visit to Zeitz MOCAA was absolutely amazing. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the architecture it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The space is bold, inspiring, and beautifully designed. The exhibitions were powerful and thought-provoking, celebrating contemporary African artists in a way that feels both modern and deeply rooted in culture. I loved how each floor offered a new perspective, and the staff were kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming. The rooftop views of Cape Town and Table Mountain are breathtaking, and the atmosphere of the entire museum is peaceful, reflective, and energizing at the same time. I left feeling inspired and proud of what African art represents today. Truly a must-see if you’re in Cape Town. I went on a weekday, took an Uber, and the museum was relatively quiet. I bought my ticket at the entrance with no issues. Totally worth the visit.

Our small group, enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the galleries. The organization was impeccable, with curated musicians & dance shows. It was a a fantastic Heritage day, where by free entry was granted for all South Africans. There was also an affordable food market just outside. The Art was full of tales & offered a cultural understanding. The lighting in he different galleries was very interesting and your eyes eventually adapt. The crowd was not to thick, it flowed well and was not to overwhelming, however I believe the air control was not working correctly, as it became hot & stuffy in areas, all in all a well worth day spent celebrating the rich cultural diversity and unity together enriched in creative art & history. Thanks Zietz it was a delightful experience

-A rare experience(It's quite deep in history but at the same time, some may get freaked out by the set up/certain art pieces/artifacts.) -The place is still under renovation so it's understandable that it's not complete. -The view from the top is stunning and the design of this museum is modern and sleek. Well done ! -I highly recommend students who are learning about South African history to visit here and spend a day collecting valuable info.

The Zeitz Museum is an amazing experience on two levels. To begin, the museum’s six different exhibits are fascinating and they opened my mind to perspectives and aspects of art/history that I had never contemplated before. For example, the special exhibit focused on the generational trauma caused from French serving Senegalese fighting in Vietnam during the 1940-50s and the consequences that had upon families and cultures, a truly fascinating moment that I had never even considered in that context. Eye opening. The second aspect of the museum that boggles the mind and fills the soul with wonder is the museum itself. The Zeitz is truly an awe inspiring structure; the coolest museum I visited during my time in Cape Town.

Very expensive for us local SAFFERS! We loved it, really beautifully laid out and yet intimate. Pity about the posh restaurant at the top great view and should be booked out ... shocking service from the kitchen, the waitress was lovely and we understood it was not her fault... Can't say we would go back for anything other than the view... Something the kitchen can't control!
Rev W — Google review
Spacious viewing halls, clean simple signage, a leveled variety of exhibitions. The entrance foyer is something engineers and architecture students will truly love! The conversion of a grain silo into a museum is quite a phenomenal achievement. The actual quality of art on display varies though. Some installations are modern and superb and others you can see are just fillers so you are not walking through empty halls. Best to visit during the day, tire yourself, build and appetite and go for lunch at the neighboring restaurants.
Fuaad A — Google review
I mean The building is really impressive and looks really cool from the inside, and the art was cool too, sure. But that art museum cost over two times More compared to other art museum in Cape-Town. I was expecting more for that price. Honestly I would recommend going to the national art gallery instead (it's in Gardens), about same amount of art to see and only costs about 80rand
Helmi H — Google review
Wow! I'm in awe of this building and space & look forward to returning to spend more time when not for an event. Exquisite spaces & flow; to imagine a thought that germinated in a creative mind - leading to this... Inspired!

We were super excited to try out Le Pickle with the uptake of so many smash burgers in Cape Town. Unfortunately, the burger was quite greasy and the chips had the best texture but no flavour. BUT I will say that the brands vibe & store is epic and it’s situated in a great location which could make for some great memories. They also serve alcohol.

The mall it self is very inviting and clean. Also the security was so helpful and eager to assist. I visited the mall on the 27th August. I had a bad experience with spar baked cheese cake and miltart slices. Definitely don't purchase those items. It was dry, probably old and I chocked on it. I had to throw it away. I tossed the slip because my expectations was a good slice of cake I guess. It looked to good definitely not worth R50 and R45 a slice.

A wonderful top-class self-catering resort with all the amenities you can ask for. It is neat, clean, and well looked after. The hot water springs are lovely, especially in Winter. The staff are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. I a great experience there.

This village/mall is quite nice. It seemingly has everything one needs without going oversized like a mall. Pharmacy, hardware, sporting equipment, grocery, housewares, etc. Disagree with the negative reviews here. Talk it slow and enjoy the variety, chill in the open space and enjoy the people watching. Lots of security about, which I suppose is good. As a tourist found this place inviting and the shopkeepers all friendly. Recommend and would return.

A worthy visit for both locals and visitors when next in Cape Town. Easy and accessible parking and roadside free after 13h00. Tapas restaurant
The Pot Luck Club is a trendy and vibrant spot offering sophisticated tapas with a view of Table Mountain through its glass walls. It's part of the Luke Dale-Roberts gastronomic empire, known for its contemporary tapas bites like fish tacos, Chalmar beef, and Korean cauliflower. The open kitchen allows guests to witness the artistry behind each dish.
This was our second time here as a couple. Our first experience was so great that we didn’t think it could top it again but the second time we visited it was just as good/even better than before. We live in Dubai, so we’ve had a lot of dining experiences, but some of the best restaurants there don’t even come near to being as decent as The Pot Luck Club. The staff are super friendly and attentive, you can almost chat to the chefs directly as it’s an open kitchen. My favourite dish of the evening was the sushi garden dish (don’t quite remember the exact names of the dishes). It was hands down the best dish I’ve ever tasted in my life. It was beautiful and colourful and the contrast in flavours was like a jukebox, you didn’t know what taste was going come next. I hope they keep this dish on the menu so that I can try it again next time. Well done to all the staff for putting on a great show in every way you can in a restaurant.
Emma H — Google review
Make sure you make a reservation in advance for The Pot Luck Club, we were only left with the 6pm slot availability. The beauty of arriving at this hour was that we can admire the view of table mountain and lion’s head in the sunset on one side and the port on the other. They are like tapas with fusion twist so you can get to try many plates. We ordered the Peruvian Ceviche, Penang Broccoli and Wild Mushrooms and they were all delicious. The plate that I was particularly impressed was Venison Tataki - a gastronomic piece that was vividly visual in red not for the fainted heart and bold on the tastebuds. The spring brook served with chicken liver pate go surprisingly well together. If you don’t like gamey taste this may not be for you.

This was the best meal I had in South Africa. Stunning views, really great atmosphere and location, and the staff were top class. All the dishes we had were so good and being able to see the kitchen staff working away was a great touch. The cocktails were also all really well made and unique! If I’m back in Cape Town I will 100% be visiting again! Highly recommend stopping by.

We had such a fantastic time at the Sunday Brunch special at The Pot Luck Club. The bottomless MCC and Bloody Marys were absolutely a cherry on top of a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The staff were not only friendly but also incredibly skilled, paying great attention to detail and creating a relaxed atmosphere where we could enjoy everything they had to offer while catching up with friends. The food was superb and beautifully presented, with the Eggs Benedict standing out as a highlight. The drinks kept coming, which added to the fun. I highly recommend checking out the Sunday Brunch. Just make sure to book in advance!

This place came highly recommended and it didn’t disappoint. The atmosphere was buzzing right from the doors opening, open kitchen, great service they really check all the boxes. Very cool place to have a dinner with your loved ones. Tapas type menu, that was brought to another level, not only by taste , but by presentation as well. Curry Club, located in Gardens, offers a fusion of modern Indian cuisine and traditional family favorites. The menu features a variety of curry styles with options like the fiery Lightning Lamb Vindaloo and the aromatic Mountain Goat Curry. Additionally, the restaurant provides fast delivery services over a large area. Visitors can enjoy 2-for-1 main meals any day of the week and savor delectable dishes at great prices while enjoying the atmospheric ambiance and friendly service.
Came here with my friend as she always raves about the place. Had no idea it was so lovely inside! Thought it was a takeaway joint. To start we had potato samoosas. Personally, I would skip these, but the spinach bhajis (complimentary) were sensational. For mains we shared the mushroom curry and aubergine curry - the aubergine curry was rich, slightly spicy and unctuous - probably one of the top three best curries I’ve had. The owner is extremely hands on and came to us to explain the menu concept and their style of curry (they prioritise flavour over spice and if you want it milder or hotter just let them know). The decor was gorgeous and I can’t wait to book the private blue room for my next dinner.

Awesome service – 10/10! Super friendly staff helped us pick from the menu with a smile. Cozy vibe, cool decor, and speedy food. Tasty curry, though the rice ratio could be better. Spice level 5/10 still lit us up – beware!

I cannot fault this place at all. The atmosphere is eclectic and fun. The aromatics coming from the kitchen are divine. We tried the Goat Curry and the Butter chicken which were both an 11/10. Make sure to book, or you might miss out.

Delicious food, no doubt. But oddly, we were told all indoor tables were booked—despite plenty sitting empty throughout our visit. Perhaps next time we’ll bring a white friend to help us get seated inside. Hospitality shouldn’t come with conditions.

“Having simple manners costs nothing, yet it says everything about you.” We recently visited this restaurant with the intention of enjoying a local curry dining experience. Upon arrival, we were informed that no tables were available, as they do not accept seating after 20h30. While we fully respect any establishment’s policies, the manner in which this was communicated was unnecessarily abrupt and discourteous. The owners’ attitude left us feeling unwelcome and disappointed, especially, as a local resident, who had hoped to support a neighborhood business. Although we cannot comment on the quality of the food, the lack of basic courtesy ensures that we will never be returning or recommending this restaurant to others.

The Waterside, part of the La Colombe family of restaurants and located in the Pierhead building at V&A Waterfront, offers a relaxed yet sophisticated dining experience with stunning waterfront views. The restaurant's light and airy ambiance, along with its deck resembling a superyacht, provides an exceptional setting for enjoying locally sourced cuisine. Away from the bustling V&A attractions, The Waterside promises seamless service and a comfortable environment to savor exquisite meals.
Had my last lunch in Cape Town here before flying back to Singapore, and I’m so glad I did! Totally worth it. Went for the full 9-course menu, and every single dish was creative, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Honestly one of the most memorable meals of my trip. The portions were generous too… I was this close to rolling out of the restaurant at the end 😂

If you are a novice at fine dining this meal would've been fantastic. If however, like us you are well versed in fine dining this meal would've been less than expected. It looked stunning but the chef over-used chillies which in most dishes totally over-powered the other ingredients (even the palate cleanser had chillies in the soil. We did love the mango dessert, it was really good. Also we left there way poorer but still hungry so for us the meal was not worth the price (and we got it on the restaurant week special). The service was really good, and the view was lovely.

Beautiful setting on the harbor with elegant décor and warm, polished service. Unfortunately, we were asked to wait, even with an empty dining room, because we arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation. This felt unnecessarily rigid. Dinner was good but not memorable, with dishes emphasizing presentation over flavor. The wine was the clear standout. All in all, Julie and I had a very pleasant evening and a lovely meal.

Marina Perfection: The Waterside, with its very nice setting overlooking the marina near the V&A Waterfront, offers an exceptional dining experience. The fantastic tasting menu was the highlight, showcasing top-notch attention to detail in every flawless course. The service was great, delivered by a small, extremely knowledgeable team that ensured the entire evening was seamless and personalized. We opted for the Women in Wine pairing, a truly brilliant concept featuring unique selections that complemented the dishes perfectly. The only minor critique is that the pours were extremely conservative, amounting to barely two sips per glass; slightly larger measures would definitely enhance this offering. Overall, The Waterside is a must-visit destination. For anyone near the V&A in Cape Town seeking a polished experience with high-quality cuisine and attentive staff, we would highly recommend it.

Everything was phenomenal. I don’t even know what was the best dish, as almost all courses were among the best I’ve had. The furniture was great, and service was on point as well. Highly recommend. This would probably translate to a 1 michelin star restaurant, inching towards the second.

The service was good. Attentive waitress and sommelier is attentive and professional. The wine pairing was good. The food is good but I found the sour and spicy were overpowering for some dishes. Specially for the tuna. The lamb is gamy.

Because the winter specials wrap up at the end of August, bittersweet because I love the cozy hideaway but not the tourist rush. We decided to take advantage of the lunch special at R595 per person. A while back I went to Pier upstairs, so I was curious to try The Waterside’s vegetarian menu. Walking in from the icy wind, we were met with warmth, both the temperature and the smiles. Wine-lined walls, modern coastal elegance, sleek chairs, oak tables, and those big harbour views. It felt polished but not try-hard. I ordered bubbles (it was Women’s Month after all) and loved seeing a whole page of women-owned wines. My rosé MCC had a blush-gold hue and tasted as crisp and elegant as it looked. The vegetarian menu started with sweet potato, my favourite vegetable, but dressed up like it was headed for the Met Gala. A glossy tamarind sauce, curled ribbon garnish, edible flowers, all beautifully plated. It wasn’t just a looker, the sweet potato was soft and naturally sweet, the sauce gently spiced with curry notes, tangy tamarind sass, plus kimchi for heat and crunch. A touch more salt and it would’ve been perfect. Then came the palate cleanser: the cutest little cactus pot. Zesty lemon sorbet with a tequila-mezcal kick, crunchy chocolate-chilli “soil”, refreshing, grown-up, and genius. I’d happily drink it as a summer cocktail. Mains were gnocchi, golden potato pillows with a light crisp, salsa verde sauce, fresh broccoli and carrots, crispy garnish for seasoning. Vibrant colours like a spring garden on a plate. Comforting, zesty, salty, fresh, all in harmony. Honestly, vegetarians know what’s up; I had zero FOMO. And then dessert, maybe my favourite dessert ever. Minimalist but perfect plating: ruby-red rhubarb tart, creamy cheesecake swirl, dainty quenelle of ice cream. The tart was tangy, jammy, with a buttery buckwheat base. Paired with the decadent cheesecake swirl, it was pure magic. Love at first bite. The ice cream added a cool, not-too-sweet balance. Together? A modern rom-com love triangle that worked. Overall, The Waterside gave me an amazing afternoon: tranquil atmosphere, gorgeous views, and food that’s both beautiful and flavourful. Service was warm, welcoming, and polished. If you’re wondering whether the vegetarian menu is worth it, it absolutely is. Highly recommend. Till next time!

Truly amazing experience. Have had many tasting menus with matched wines around Australia and Europe and this rates up there with the best. Each course was beautifully presented and produced some exquisite taste sensations. Nice touch with different staff serving meals that they were closely associated with, providing really good descriptions. Presentation of each course was immaculate. We paired the showcase of female wine makers and our host Caroline was outstanding in her wine knowledge and preparation along with a great sense of humour. What a way to finish a marvellous holiday in Southern Africa.

Portuguese restaurant
Dias Tavern Portuguese Restaurant is a vibrant spot in Cape Town, offering classic South African Portuguese cuisine with a view of Table Mountain. Located in District Six, this taverna is known for its reasonably priced, spicy dishes like trinchado and peri-peri chicken livers. The dimly lit atmosphere and cheap drinks add to the appeal. Inspired by Bartolomeu Dias, the restaurant often features live music, creating a lively ambiance.
The food here is amazing, really hearty and filling Portugueses food. Went there on a more quiet evening as it can get extremely busy when it’s a big sports match,

A very authentic Portuguese restaurant that has been here forever. I think I visited it in 1988 for the first time. At that stage, it had already been an establishment. Good value, generous portions, and well-prepared food. Some surprisingly nice wines on an unpretentious menu. What you see is what you get… nothing over the top but always up to standard. The service can be a bit slow, especially on a Friday afternoon at lunchtime.

We hadn't been to Dias in a long time. We went to a concert at the Star Theatre nearby and had a quick dinner. Our group ordered grilled hake, Portuguese Prego, Hake Ala Dias (hake, calamari), Trinchado Generous portion sizes and we all enjoyed our meals. Waitresses were friendly and service was quick. We loved the Portuguese family vibe. We parked across the road.

Gardens
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is a stunning hillside garden and nature reserve that boasts rare plant species, walking trails, and breathtaking mountain views. Spanning 52,800 square kilometers, it is renowned for its unique flora and captivating location. The main entrance features an information center, souvenir shop, and a conservatory ideal for breakfast. The Tree Canopy Walkway, also known as the 'Boomslang,' offers panoramic views as it winds through the trees.
This is an exceptionally large and beautiful garden, with so much to explore and enjoy. You can easily spend several hours here and still discover new areas of interest. Be mindful of the pathways, as it’s easy to wander onto the hiking trails—some of which involve quite a climb! There is also a restaurant near the entrance of the garden that offers excellent service, quick turnaround, and delicious food. It’s worth noting that access to the restaurant is only available once you’ve entered the garden. South African citizens should remember to bring their ID or passport to make use of the local discount. 🌸 Highly recommended for nature lovers, families, and anyone looking for a peaceful yet engaging outing.

The botanical gardens around South Africa are an invaluable showcase of local plant life, exhibiting extraordinary biodiversity. The Cape fynbos is the smallest of 6 floral kingdoms in the world, but the richest in unit of area. There are over 9000 species of plant in the Cape, with 6200 not to be found anywhere else in the world. Table mountain alone has more plant species than the whole of the UK. Kirstenbosch is a regular visitor and prize winner at the famous Chelsea flower show. Visiting these botanical gardens provides an opportunity to see the plants displayed there in their natural habitat, on the foot of Table mountain. It is a very beautiful, deeply relaxing place place to visit and spend time. You can take walks, have picnics or visit the classy Moyo restaurant. Highly recommended visit.

Kirstenbosch is truly one of South Africa’s national treasures! The gardens are breathtakingly beautiful — perfectly maintained and showcasing the incredible diversity of our country’s flora. The peaceful walking trails, shady lawns, and stunning mountain backdrop make it the ideal place to unwind and reconnect with nature. The Tree Canopy Walkway (the “Boomslang”) offers amazing views, and there’s always something new in bloom no matter the season. The restaurant and tea garden are lovely too — a great spot to relax after a stroll. Highly recommended for locals and visitors alike. Whether you love plants, photography, or just a peaceful picnic in nature, Kirstenbosch never disappoints!

This place took our breath away! The gardens and the spectacular views are something you see in magazines. You choose what to do here, you can do the trails and see all the botanical garden has to offer or you can set up a blanket on the floor and have a relaxing picnic while you enjoy the breathtaking views. If I lived in Cape Town, I would have an annual membership because I would be coming not only to see and enjoy the garden but also to enjoy all the events they offer. If you love nature, this is the place for you!!!

Kirstenbosch is truly one of the most beautiful botanical gardens I’ve ever been to. The greenery is absolutely breathtaking vibrant flowers, towering trees, and perfectly kept trails all set against the dramatic backdrop of Table Mountain. The energy of this place is so peaceful and uplifting. You can wander for hours, have a picnic on the lawns, or just sit and take in the views. On some days, there’s live music in the gardens, which makes it even more special listening to a concert surrounded by nature is an experience you’ll never forget. If you’re visiting Cape Town, this is an absolute must. It’s a beautiful, serene escape that shows off the heart of South Africa’s natural beauty.

Quick Takeaways 🌳 Immaculately maintained: The gardens are beautifully managed and visually stunning. 🚗 Easy to reach: Accessible by car with clear signage; hiking trails also lead to the gardens (honesty system applies if you enter on foot). 🅿️ Ample parking: Plenty of space for cars, vans, and coaches, though multiple entrances can make leaving a bit confusing. 🗺️ Navigation: A map is provided, but the numbered signs throughout the grounds are often easier to follow. ⏰ Time needed: Plan at least half a day — ideally a full one — to explore everything. 🥾 Terrain: Steep areas and lots of stairs make for a good workout, especially along the perimeter trails. 🌉 Highlights: The canopy walk, art installations, sculptures, and a small waterfall feature add variety and charm. 🍽️ Facilities: The restaurant and shop are well-sized, offering a great range of local produce and souvenirs. 💯 Overall: A must-visit attraction — peaceful, expansive, and lovingly cared for, perfect for both casual visitors and hiking enthusiasts. Full Review The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are beautifully managed and immaculately maintained — a truly stunning destination that perfectly showcases South Africa’s rich plant life. Getting there is simple: you can drive directly to the gardens via well-signposted roads, or hike in via one of the numerous trails that connect to the site. For those arriving on foot, there’s an honesty system in place — you’re expected to head to the main ticket office to pay for entry, even though the trails give you open access to the grounds. Once on site, parking is plentiful for cars, vans, and even coaches. The only slightly confusing part is that there are at least two main entrances and two parking areas, which can make leaving a bit tricky — especially after exploring such a large area on foot! Visitors are given a simple map upon entry. I found it attractive and easy to understand in design, but in practice I relied more on the numbered signs dotted around the gardens to orient myself. There’s so much to see here that a couple of hours won’t do it justice. The perimeter trails offer some of the best panoramic views of the gardens and surrounding mountains, but they are quite steep and involve a fair number of stairs, so be ready for some uphill walking. One of the standout attractions is the canopy walk, a beautifully curved bridge that briefly takes you through the treetops — a unique and memorable perspective. The gardens are also dotted with sculptures and artworks that blend naturally with the landscape, adding visual interest at every turn. With so many winding footpaths, it’s easy to miss smaller features. I nearly walked past a charming little waterfall and stream but was glad I didn’t — it was one of my favourite quiet spots. I also walked the upper perimeter and was rewarded with stunning, wide-open views across the gardens and the city beyond. At the end of the visit, the on-site restaurant and shop are both excellent — spacious, well-stocked, and offering a great selection of local produce and gifts. Overall, Kirstenbosch is a must-visit location. It’s clear that the gardens are lovingly cared for, and with so much to explore — from manicured lawns and forested slopes to art and architecture — you could easily spend an entire day here and still not see it all.

Botanical gardens in any city are always winners and this one no less. A huge spread of garden that rolled up the hill, butted against a mountain with rambling springs and creeks, a forest walkway and hiking paths it was a joy to meander the grounds checking the floral and fauna. There was even a yellow Strzelecki plant, created in honour of Nelson Mendela. The gift shop was also a joy to wander around and I loved the bookshop. I loved the varieties of lollies, succulents and aloe.

Nature & Parks
Wynberg Park, situated at the beginning of the Krakeelwater River, is a popular destination known for its natural beauty and seasonal attractions. The 26-hectare park features open grassy areas with shade trees, small ponds, and a playground, making it an ideal spot for picnics and family outings. Visitors can enjoy the captivating conifer garden and vibrant display of hydrangeas during summer.
Beautiful park. There are lots of spaces to choose to sit down with your friends /families/ colleagues/ pets, etc. Alcohol allowed. Toilets are super clean, and toilet paper is provided. The park closes at 7 pm.

🌿 Highlights & Charm • Heritage & setting: Opened in 1902, the park sits atop Wynberg Hill on the historic site of an indigenous Silvertree forest; its beautiful conifer gardens retain the local heritage . • Water features: The spring of the Krakeelwater River begins here, flowing through duck ponds that enhance the park’s peaceful ambiance . • Green spaces: With 22 hectares of lawns, shady trees, winding paths and hydrangea blooms in summer, it offers a lovely retreat for families . ⸻ 🏞️ Facilities & Activities • Families & picnics: Equipped with a children’s playground, braai (BBQ) spots, and public toilets, it’s popular for weekend gatherings—often full to capacity . • Events & ambience: Hosts live concerts and “fun days” occasionally, giving a boost to the community vibe . ⸻ 🛠️ Shortcomings to Consider • Maintenance issues: Some visitors note that while facilities like toilets are relatively clean, they could benefit from upgrades and more frequent servicing . • Crowds & wear: Being the second-largest urban park in Cape Town, it’s popular—and can be quite busy, especially on weekends, leading to litter and wear in some areas . ⸻ 👍 Pros & Cons at a glance 👍 Pros 👎 Cons Rich historical value & greenery Toilets need improvement Picnics, braais, family-friendly Overcrowded on weekends River spring, duck ponds & hydrangeas Litter in some spots ⸻ 🎯 Verdict: 3/5 Wynberg Park offers a lovely slice of Cape Town history with mature trees, scenic water features, and park amenities for relaxed family outings. However, its full potential is held back by overcrowding, occasional maintenance issues, and a need for more consistent upkeep. Best for: Families and locals seeking a historic, casual green space for weekend picnics and small events. Not ideal for: Quiet solitude or well-maintained facilities expectations. ⸻ ✅ Tips for Visiting • Weekdays are much quieter—ideal for scenic walks or solitude. • If you’re heading on the weekend, arrive early to secure a pleasant picnic or braai spot. • Bring your own sanitary supplies—toilet paper or wipes—as facilities may run low. • Respect the space—keep it tidy to help ensure it remains a well-loved community asset. ⸻ At 3/5, Wynberg Park remains a cherished historic and community space—with character and charm to spare, but also room for improvement.

We attended a small family gathering here and it was not bad at all. Lots of space, shade and nice views of the dam / pond and animals. Nice grassy areas, well kept and maintained but bathrooms needed some TLC but perhaps because it is open to the public, it is not in the best state. Quiet, private and we had a lovely Sunday afternoon spent with friends and family.

Greenmarket Square is a bustling market located in a historical square that dates back to the late 1600s. It offers a vibrant atmosphere with stalls selling locally made art, crafts, clothing, and African curios. The market is known for its colorful wall hangings, paintings, necklaces, toys, and lively music from street musicians. Over the years, it has transformed from a vegetable market and watering hole to a lively flea market where visitors can enjoy bargaining for goods within reason.
Great place to spend time buying some real art and craft from South Africa. Buy clothes, native musical instruments, paintings, leather and jewellery. Lots of souvenir and gifting items available here. Make sure you bargain well for the best price.
Mohit M — Google review
Located in a very central area along long street, the market is composed of easily around 30 stalls selling magnets, keyrings, traditional African clothes, handcrafts, caps, decorative items and bracelets among others. Large variety of stuffs sold at high prices that you should at least divide by 3 to obtain a fair price. However, sometimes you can get better prices without much bargain in Pan African Market ( a building found 100m away) or cheaper fixed prices in African Curiosity (V&A Waterfront). The market is active as from 9-10am till 5pm everyday, and amazingly as it might seem, they dismantle every stall at the end of the day and mount them again the next day, every single day.

Loads of options for African handicrafts big and small to take home as souvenirs. The options on fridge magnets was great there were no handcrafted or unique fridge magnet purchase options available as in Lesotho. The fridge magnets were also pricier than say Boulder beach SAN park gift shop. The vendors are pleasant and easy to talk to, and they don't hassle you into buying stuff. I mainly went to purchase a handcrafted ostrich egg, which was cheaper than the ones I saw in other gift shops.

This place is full of life... The sellers are charming and the exchanges are fruitful. You can take photos and videos, and they always offer you a reduction and a gift if you buy at least two items. I met two Congolese ladies like me, who sell there😍 I didn't even see the table of the second one in fact 😅 The others called her just so she could see the other "Kinoise", lol

Gigi Rooftop Restaurant & Bar is a vibrant rooftop spot located in the heart of Cape Town's CBD. The decor is inspired by tropical themes, featuring lush blue, green, and orange color schemes with leafy plants throughout the deck area. Guests can enjoy stunning views of the city skyline while savoring a South African breakfast or global dishes like Georges Egg Florentine.
I went for sour cocktails special hour and ordered the Chef set for dinner. The ossobuco was absolutely to die for and the pannacotta was delicious. The staff was also very attentive. Highly recommended!

Gigi’s Rooftop is such a vibe! ✨ The ambience is fantastic—chic but relaxed, with the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay all night. The music, the lighting, the view… everything just works together perfectly. Drinks were on point, food delicious, and the service made it even better. Definitely one of those spots that feels special the moment you walk in.

I'm not even sure where to start, we popped here for a lovely lunch in the sun, the food was absolutely unreal, the decor absolutely amazing so modern and fresh! such a unique place with so much to give, it's an absolute VIBE! staff was so so lovely, friendly and welcoming. my better half and I was absolutely vibing, drinks/cocktails was so lovely, music great and the only one massive thing that ruined it was CHLOE, extremely rude, came over and rudley told us we are not allowed on the decking as there's a sign ( bare in mind we took loads photos and even a staff member took photos of us up there and did not say we wasint allowed there, others did too) Chloe rather than approaching us and explaining this like a human she barked at us and walked away while we tried to speak to her ( we was very shocked that some could act in this manner towards anyone never mind a paying customer!) she ruined our whole experience, we did mention this to two members of staff, I however nothing happened we got a sorry that was it. unfortunately people like Chloe should not work anywhere near people, the lack of customer service, empathy, no logic, no respect is absolutely disgusting, she needs a new job and fast before she barks at others! Other than that the place was fabulous 👌🏽 I hope the 2.5mil views I get on here really see Chloe for what she is ( not the first I've met)

I absolutely love this spot! The staff are incredible and the decor and vibe are amazing. The food is great (Halaal friendly upon request) and their mocktails are truly something special. My only gripe what that service was quite slow. You wait quite a while after ordering to receive your beverage and especially your food. I hope they’re able to iron out that issue soon. All in all, I’m a fan and will be returning!

Asian restaurant
Haiku Cape Town CBD is a stylish and glamorous restaurant offering a tapas-style dining experience with Chinese dim sum, Japanese grills, sushi, and stir fry dishes. The menu features must-have dishes like steamed duck buns, spicy prawn har gau, Peking duck, and sizzling lamb with coconut rice. The centrally located venue has a complex menu catering to various preferences but lacks specialization.
Wonderful Asian restaurant (not sure why they use the word tapas!) in Cape Town Center. Food was exceptional! There’s sushi, dim sum, wok dishes, soup, and desert. The spicy prawn steamed dim sum was excellent. The lamb pot stickers were a delicious surprise and not to be missed. The Peking duck was juicy and succulent and I enjoyed it a lot. The ice cream you can skip (like most Asian restaurants). Service was top notch. In fact the best I’ve had in Cape Town so far. Good and lovely atmosphere. Wonderful place. Will return.
Hristijan G — Google review
I don’t know what happened in the kitchen on that day, but I unfortunately won’t be visiting again. I’m wildly suprised by all the great reviews and stars, as that’s why we chose Haiku as our restaurant of choice. - made a reservation with a staff member, when we arrived no one was informed. But this was not even a problem because it was quiet, so we got seated easily. - lighting is so dark. It feels like 11pm in there. - food took so long to arrive - ordered the 12 piece sushi platter for R300: it was a disaster. There was more rice than fish, the fried sushi was so hard because it wasn’t coated in tempura batter, ginger looked a few days old, the assortment was a joke (2 salmon roses, 2 tuna nigiri, 4 over fried tuna California roll, 4 tuna and Salomon California roll) the water said there was prawn but we didn’t get any in our platter. - it was a very quiet Sunday, only our table and another table of 4 to look after. Our waiter was giving ‘not interested’ to be at work on that long weekend. Not disrespectful, but just super lethargic and whatever. Took so like to bring the cutlery and the bill. - prawn toast would have been so tasty but way too salty. - The tuna tacos for R195: the tacos were extremely oily. The tuna was great, a bit stingy with the guac. - this seems to be a high end restaurant, so note that the sushi and dim sum come in quantities of 2/3/4/6 and it’s unspecified on the menu! I wanted to order noodles and the duck but after the mediocre food and service we called it a night. Went home unsatisfied.
Meheshree P — Google review
Was debating between going to a less high end place but chose this because I liked the exterior. Inside is gorgeous and the service was good but food wasn’t anything special. We got lots of dim sum and one wok- the Vegs didn’t have much taste we needed to add some salt and we also ordered the spicy prawn and chili oil chicken dim sum. The chicken one was better and the food was fine but again, nothing to rave about. I’m sure the hole in the wall would have been a bit more authentic but alas

Incredible quality Asian fusion food: Japanese, Thai and Chinese. The dumplings were so popular with all 7 of us. We enjoyed superior quality sushi, fresh and flavourful. The coconut rice was outstanding with the Kung pao curry. Do not miss out on the cheesecake. We shared that delicious desert. Italian restaurant
Borruso's in Kenilworth is a beloved spot known for its warm and inviting atmosphere, excellent service, and top-notch pizza. This iconic gem has made a name for itself with its delicious wood-fired pizzas featuring classic toppings like piquante peppers, bacon, feta, smoked chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, and mushrooms. The restaurant also offers a variety of well-crafted pasta dishes with classic sauces such as alfredo and carbonara.
This place is a suburban institution in Cape Town. It’s super local , barely any tourists, just a lovely little Italian restaurant that is cozy, unassuming, with great food and friendly staff - tucked away in the southern suburbs. Kinda hard to find the entrance of the building actually. Sit outside if you have kids coz it’s really small inside. Obviously - great pizza.

Borruso’s in Kenilworth is the perfect spot to catch up with friends or family. Warm, friendly, and consistent. The waiters are a bit young so make mistakes sometimes but overall a lovely experience. An added bonus that they dont charge corkage 🍕🍝🍷

Pizza was delicious! Waitrons were super friendly. And they had Black Label beer, so this was amazeballs!! Love it👌👌

Just had the worst pizza in my life delivered from here by Mr D. Cold, no cheese and trashed. All for R200. Bargain.

This was definitely one of the best pizza's I have ever eaten. Fresh and delicately spiced topping, perfectly baked thin Italian crust, simply delicious! If you have a big appetite, I also strongly recommend to try the foccacia as a starter, they were also very tasty. Desserts are homemade and excellent. There is a lively publike atmosphere. Waiters are friendly and service is very fast. Reservations are not possible, but not needed because a table will be available in no time and the pizza is absolutely worth the wait.

Went with family from overseas since we have grown up with this place but also because it is the only pizza and pasta place that is delicious beyond say. Pizza is thin base, with amazing toppings and superb fresh chilli on the side. Favourites are the 'foccaccio' and the 'no name brand', as well as the pasta 'alfredo', which is creamy and so full of authentic flavours. There is a very unique and special quality and character of Borrussos that makes it stand out. From the colours of choice, different furnitures, old victorian style bathroom to the wood fired oven surrounded by money notes, and of course the vintage alcohol bottles and the team pictures throughout the years on display. Lovely owners and such cheerful young ladies and gents working there give such a great vibe and an atmosphere worth wanting more. We have and will always enjoy every moment... Keep up the incredible work and thank you team for bringing smiles to everyone's faces! See you soon, as you will say, pizza will never ever go wrong:) Take care everybody.

Such a lovely dinner out with family on my first visit to Cape Town. In Kennilworth is where this quaint, traditional Italian gem can be found. Think 'Nonna's' kitchen - cozy corners, mood lighting, mismatched chairs, and the chatter of happy customers clinking wine glasses and enjoying generously portioned, delicious food. Perfect pizza - thin crust with lovely quality toppings. I had the blue cheese and fig preserve foccacia to start and the Puttanesca fettucine for mains. Brilliant. My family (who make this a regular stop) highly recommend the Lasagne - I'll absolutely have that next time 😅

Loved it. Great atmosphere. Great service. Great pizza. Would have been 5 star if it wasn't for the wait for food. It was packed so no problem but a bit long. Will give another go for sure!

Day 4

Off the beaten path
For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Cape of Good Hope. Not quite as popular as Robben Island, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 9 hours.

Boulders Beach, located near Simons Town along the False Bay coastline in Cape Town, is a must-visit destination. It offers a sheltered public bay with a sandy beach and boardwalk where visitors can witness the free-roaming colony of African penguins in their natural habitat. This unique experience allows tourists, families, and travelers to get up close and personal with these charming marine creatures.
You will learn so much about these magnetic and majestic creatures, this is an absolute must stop. The area itself is gorgeous and the beach has truly breathtaking views. We saw a lot of wildlife in the area besides penguins, but the penguins were the highlight. While a bit emotional learning of some of the statistics about the penguins, they seem to really try to be bringing the numbers up for the population. The penguins have little “houses” to help with breeding and caring for young. The signs have a lot of information and the walk to the actual penguins themselves is a comfortable walk down a slope. The price isn’t bad and helps conservation efforts. They have bathrooms and a small gift shop at the top. The penguins themselves were very pretty and even took a dip in the ocean when we were visiting. There are two viewing spots to see the penguins themselves, both are accessible from the same area. Make a stop to see the wonderful penguins and get some great photos of them in their natural habitat!

One of our absolute favourite beaches! It’s small and quiet, and sheltered from the wind. You must check the tides, and the beach disappears in high tide, and the tide rises very quickly if you’re on the beach. There is an entrance fee, and you need to provide ID for SA resident fees, so remember to bring it or have a digital copy ready. You won’t be guaranteed to see penguins, as they are wild so roam about. So if you do, enjoy them. Don’t chase them, they’ll swim and wonder around the people. You’ll definitely see dassies, they are quite tame but still wild so don’t try pet them. Highly recommend

Boulders Beach in Cape Town is an absolute gem! 🐧 The highlight, of course, is getting up close to the adorable African penguins — it’s such a unique experience watching them waddle around . The beach itself is stunning, with crystal-clear water and huge granite boulders that make it feel like a private little paradise. It’s a great spot for families, couples, or anyone who loves nature and the ocean. The water can be a bit chilly, but it’s perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot day. Make sure to bring your camera — the views and penguins are picture-perfect! 📸 Definitely one of Cape Town’s must-visit attractions!

A must visit place while visiting Cape Town. Penguins are not found everywhere hence seeing these here in wild and natural setting is not to be missed. I visited the place in October, when it was spring season at this place, I must say this is the best time to visit Cape Town. It is about a 1.5 hours journey from Cape town, however the journey in between is so pretty that you enjoy every bit of it. Along the journey you are passing on a coastal road which has breath taking sea views. Also, you pass through beautiful mountains covered with very beautiful natural flora and fauna that you would not have seen in any other part of the world. The natural wild flowers of this area are very unique. Once you reach the Boulders beach, you need to park your transport in the parking area, then you have to walk for some time to reach the Boulders beach. The walk itself is interesting. You have many souvenir shops in between and a proper souvenir shop at the boulders beach. On this way little children dressed in traditional dresses were dancing and singing local songs to entertain the visitors. You can join the dancing and have fun or you can have some pictures with them. Boulders beach itself is very pretty. Clear blue sae water, white sand, proper pathways to reach the beach and the Penguins itself. It was very much full of fun. Fully recommended.

Boulders Beach in Cape Town is one of those rare places where nature, wildlife, and serenity meet in the most magical way. Walking down the wooden boardwalk, the excitement builds as you catch your first glimpse of the famous African penguins. The sight of these charming little creatures waddling along the sand, diving into the turquoise waters, or sunbathing on the rocks is nothing short of heartwarming. It feels like stepping into a documentary, only this time you’re part of the story. What makes Boulders Beach truly special is the chance to get so close to these endangered penguins while still respecting their habitat. Unlike anywhere else in the world, here you can swim alongside them in the sheltered bay, where the water is calm, clear, and surprisingly inviting. The large granite boulders create natural pools, making it safe and family-friendly. Beyond the penguins, the beach itself is stunning — soft white sand, crystal-clear waves, and a peaceful atmosphere that feels worlds away from the busy city. It’s both an adventure and a sanctuary. Visiting Boulders Beach is not just about seeing penguins; it’s about experiencing Cape Town’s unique blend of beauty, conservation, and wonder.
Asif A — Google review
Boulders Beach, near Simon’s Town outside Cape Town, is a truly special place — beautiful, charming, and full of personality. The sheltered cove formed by ancient granite boulders creates calm, clear pools perfect for swimming, especially for children or anyone wanting gentler waters. Its biggest draw, of course, is the African penguin colony: watching them waddle, swim, nest, and interact is both heartwarming and unforgettable. Facilities are decent — boardwalks, viewing platforms, parking, restrooms and a little shop. Heads up: it gets busy, especially mid-day, and there’s an entrance fee (which goes toward conservation). Also, since the penguins are wild, one must be careful, respectful, and follow all rules about maintaining distance. Overall, Boulders Beach is a must-visit if you’re in Cape Town — scenic, serene, and seeing penguins in nature makes the trip truly worthwhile.

#LiveOutLoud Most tourists go to Boulders Beach for the Penguins, well we went for the beach and swam in the rock pools, and we're blessed by a group who shouted loudly, 'Happy Wedding Anniversary', they also sang for us... Boulders Beach near Simon's Town has a lot going for it and you might just have too much fun in one day... Go early, rent a car, it's a lot less busy if your are not in a large tour group, we didn’t go with a plan, we just went with the flow, sometimes surprises make the journey more memorable... What ever you do, don't try to rush this visit and if you can plan for a sunny day, take your swimmers... #HappyFeet are welcome, don't just watch the penguins, #GetWet

5 stars for the penguins, 4 for the crowds of people. I knew it could be overcrowded, but I didn’t realize how much 😄 Even in the evening, 30 minutes before closing. However, maybe everyone was just waiting for the golden hour to take their best shots. Anyway, as a tourist must-see, plan your visit here. Penguins are such cute creatures!

The Cape of Good Hope, located at the tip of the Cape Peninsula in South Africa, is a protected wildlife reserve offering picturesque picnic spots and scenic walks. During spring, the area bursts into vibrant colors with blankets of wildflowers. The air at Cape Point is renowned for being the freshest and cleanest in the world due to the South Easter winds bringing in Arctic air. Additionally, where the warm Mozambique current meets the cold Bengula current creates some of the cleanest water globally.
Lovely day trip. We started at boulders beach to see the penguins, headed to Cap of good hope and ended at the two oceans light house. We took the furnicular ride as well. Tickets here readily available and reasonably priced. The views were breathtaking. We hiked up the mountain at Cap of good Hope which was rewarded with extraordinary views. Highly recommended.
Aisha R — Google review
The Cape of Good Hope, situated on the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula in South Africa, marks the most south-western point of the African continent. For centuries it has been a place of both fear and fascination—known for its treacherous waters where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans converge, creating powerful currents, sudden storms, and unpredictable weather. Originally named the “Cape of Storms” by the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias in 1488, it represented one of the greatest challenges of early maritime exploration. Later renamed to the “Cape of Good Hope”, symbolizing the promise of a new sea route to the riches of the East—India and beyond. This renaming reflected optimism that the route would open unprecedented opportunities for trade and expansion during the Age of Discovery. Today, the Cape of Good Hope forms part of the Table Mountain National Park, renowned for its dramatic cliffs, rugged coastline, and rich biodiversity, including baboons, ostriches, and many bird species. It is located about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Cape Town, easily accessible for visitors who wish to experience both its natural beauty and its layered history. Two lighthouses stand sentinel here: the old lighthouse, built in 1859 at the summit of Cape Point, and the new lighthouse, constructed in 1919, located 162 meters lower near the tip of the promontory. The new one was built because the old lighthouse, though higher, was often obscured by fog and cloud cover, making it invisible to ships in peril. From the car parking, where you can find souvenir shops, you can take a cable car up to the old lighthouse or you can also walk (about 20 minutes). Visiting the Cape is more than a scenic outing—it is a journey through time. Its cliffs and windswept shores recall the daring of explorers who risked everything to expand the world’s horizons. A trip to the Cape of Good Hope is indeed worth every moment, offering panoramic views, natural wonders, and a deep connection to one of the great turning points of global history.

The winds were crazy there with the surf crashing on the rocks throwing spray into the air and it was totally exhilarating! So much fun and we saw seals and ostriches as a bonus. Then went to Cape Point, took the funicular up and climbed the stairs to the lighthouse. The view is incredible and saw where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic. The difference in the colors of the waters was unexpected. Well worth the drive.

The trail is fairly easy, finished in around an hour or so. There's even a few animals on the trail, though they're tiny - primarily lizards. There's also a wonderful view of the beach that opens up around halfway through.

My visit to the place was very beautiful. I saw the famous Cape of Good Hope point with the waves hitting the rocks and the clouds covering it. The view and the place were really beautiful and I hope to visit it again with my family and friends. It is a historical and heritage landmark that is worth visiting. I spent two hours contemplating the beauty of the place. I recommend visiting it and visiting the entire park, as you will find beauty everywhere on every path you take, with ostriches on the road and ibex running in the place.

Absolutely breathtaking! 🌊 The Cape of Good Hope is a must-visit — stunning ocean views, dramatic cliffs, and the fresh sea breeze make it unforgettable. The scenery feels like something out of a postcard, even on a cloudy day. Highly recommend bringing a camera and just soaking in the natural beauty!

A memorable visit to one of the most beautiful places in the world 🌍. The road is long, passing through high mountains with stunning but sometimes scary views ⛰️. Along the way, you’ll see the meeting point of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans 🌊. Despite the difficult road and no internet, the experience is truly worth it. I recommend starting early in the morning to avoid getting too tired.

Cape Point Nature Reserve, located in South-West Africa, is a renowned destination known for its stormy sea waves and rich maritime history. The reserve features the rugged and wild landscape of the Cape Peninsula, offering spectacular views of the deep-blue Atlantic Ocean and vertical cliffs plunging into the churning sea. Visitors can explore fynbos-lined trails across mountains and deserted stretches of clean, white sand away from the crowds.
A highlight for anyone visiting Cape Town and the area. Although quite expensive for foreigners, this place has amazing views, wild ostriches and baboons and paved roads for any car. Be aware it closes at sundown and you'll be charged a fine for overstaying. That's unfortunate because the sunset here must be amazing

Beautiful place and huge with history filled. Went there this weekend and could spot many animals and have some great hikes in the sun. 1 Star minus is because of the 5 times higher rate for foreigners. I can understand that we have a higher income but 5 times more seems a bit unfriendly to me. Would go back but not with paying that for a daypass....

What a remarkable place. There is so much to do there. It certainly requires several trips to see and do all the activities. Going to the point is only one. Its worth doing the short hike to the end right on the ridge of the peninsula, even more so than going up to the lighthouse. There are queues for the cart but walking is much easier and more fun.
Jon A — Google review
Cape Point Nature Reserve was a highlight of our trip—made even better by a beautiful, clear day that gave us endless ocean views. You can either walk or take the funicular up to the lighthouse; we chose to walk, and it was well worth it. The trail offered stunning scenery the entire way up. It was very windy and a bit crowded at the top near the lighthouse, but the views more than made up for it. For lunch, there are two options: a sit-down restaurant and a quicker spot called The Food Shop. We tried the pizza (just okay), but the caprese sandwich was fresh and satisfying. We stopped by the two souvenir shops on-site, which had a nice selection of Cape Point–specific items. After lunch, our guided tour included a fantastic hike from the reserve down to the iconic Cape Point sign. The trail was well maintained, with wooden slats for most of the way and only short stretches that required a bit of scrambling. It was a great way to experience the landscape more intimately. We managed to walk right up to some Ostriches along the path! Overall, an incredible day in a breathtaking location!

This is an absolute Must Do when you are in Cape Town. Where Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean meet. The fynbos nature - which is like nowhere else on Earth, will definitely speak to your spirit. I went twice to the Cape Point Nature Reserve (2017,2019) because I felt the first time was really too fast. The second time, I actually hiked all the paths which is the way you want to go, you'll soak yourself into the scenery, fauna and general atmosphere much more satisfyingly. Don't limit yourself to a quick ride up and down with the cable car and back in the bus. That's really lame. This reserve definitely deserves your time.

Bay Harbour Market is a charming rustic-chic marketplace located in Hout Bay, Cape Town. It offers a delightful mix of food vendors serving up various cuisines and stalls selling handmade craft items. Visitors can enjoy live music performances while savoring delicious meals under the gum trees outside Birds Cafe. This market provides a great opportunity to experience the local culture and indulge in South African flavors while browsing through unique artisanal products.
Visited on a Sunday midday and it was a lovely time! Really unsuspecting from the outside but wow does it open up as you walk through. From local handmade crafts to upmarket clothing and into the bustling food court, there's a wide variety to choose from. Live music was a bonus. We grabbed some food and enjoyed it at the tables with the lively atmosphere. Highly recommend a visit!

After visiting the local distillery thought I’d check out the local markets. Very interesting with some local craft work and unusual souvenirs. Also local and multi cultural food on offer as well as clothing, fruit, cured meats etc. I really loved some of the metal sculptures outside. Good to chat to several of the local stall owners. Great vibe! Most vendors prefer cash but cards and tap pay are available. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas and tables and the outdoor area has a great view of the mountains. Really worth a visit if you are in the area. Had some great oysters and calamari at Seabar❣️

There are high quality stalls and vendors here, selling anything from leather goods, wire work, clothing, jewellery, home & kitchen goods and everything in between. The restaurants and drinking holes are of top quality, serving a wide variety of exceptional fare. I always recommend this as a stop for friends, family and travellers from abroad. Keep up the good work team Bay Harbour Market!!! 💪🏼🇿🇦😎

There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas and tables, and the outdoor area has a great view of the mountains. That said, I took the bus and the trip took about an hour and a half. In all honesty, compared to how small the market actually is, I didn’t feel it was worth the long journey. If you have a car, it might be more convenient and worthwhile. But if you're relying on public transport, be prepared for a lengthy trip for what is ultimately a brief visit.

If you looking for a good old fashioned fish n chips. This is the spot. However they changed their chips and it just doesn't do the same job, my personal opinion. Nothing fancy. You have to have zero expectation and just go with the flow. Nothing fancy. Excellent prawns and calamari and snoek and best hake.

As a start a very concealed entrance to the indoor market - that needs some work. Once inside you feel relaxed. The pizza was good. Expensive if you go gluten free. Really nice vibe though and a small outdoor section to sit and eat/chat if you want to be outside. Chaotic parking scene - have your wits about you. A nice place to meet friends. Closes 4pm on Saturday.

Arderne Gardens, located in Claremont, Cape Town, South Africa, is a serene arboretum with a remarkable assortment of old and exotic trees. Originally part of the Stellenberg Estate, these gardens boast a diverse collection of trees and shrubs, many indigenous to South Africa. The highlight is the impressive 300-strong assembly of trees, including majestic Giant Norfolk Island Pines.
Ardene Gardens is beautiful! A lovely, well-maintained and safe community garden where all are welcome. A wide variety of amazing trees, flowers and lush green lawns, with lots of little animals and birds makes this the perfect garden for a stroll or a picnic. There is no entry fee, but a cash donation box and SnapScan donation options at the entrance allow visitors to donate any amount towards the upkeep of this wonderful shared space.

Such a beautiful place. A very old garden - older than Kirstenbosch, even - with a variety of exotic trees. Good place for a stroll, a picnic, or to lie down with a book. I saw ducks, geese, and squirrels, and was charmed by the chorus of frogs in the little vlei area. The only downside is that there isn't much parking nearby.

Glorious, well kept garden. One would never expect this little gem to be tucked away on the main road in Claremont. It’s a perfect spot to breathe if you are waiting for anyone at one of the medical centres across the road. I loved having a genuinely quiet spot in the city on a Sunday. Enough benches, and waste bins. With a good mix of paths and grass spaces along with a wetland area it’s a happily place. Quite popular for photo shoots. All dogs must be on leash. Security does patrols which helps with feeling safe. There is a school with a hockey field bordering the property, so you may hear match sounds but only in one section.

This park really is a hidden gem in the heart of Claremont - peaceful, serene, wholesome, calm, and breathtakingly beautiful. Some of the oldest and most exotic trees grow here and reading up on the history is interesting. Perfect for picnics on the manicured lawn and super child friendly.. security at the entrance - strictly no alcohol allowed. There’s a toilet at the entrance. Seems dog friendly but we only saw dogs on leashes.

Nestled between Hout Bay harbor and the West Fort Battery Naval Heritage site, Fish on the Rocks has been a beloved spot for over 30 years. Despite its relatively young age, this quaint eatery with its yellow walls and red tin roof is a testament to Cape Town's enduring love for fish and chips.
One of the best fish and chips 🍟 that I have ever had. The fish is fresh and super crispy. The calamari and prawns are excellent too. The service is quick and the staff is helpful and friendly. Nice atmosphere with Lots of families eating there.

More than Fish & Chips... Since 1974, this family style restaurant has perfected a quality product, yes you have to line up, but one (1) minute later a young lady came out and called out, "Order number 28". That's me!!! THIS WAS FAST... They have a cool condiments section, as they do not put salt or any dressings on your order, this is great for those who both medically or just don't like that heavy handed salt technique found in so many take-away-joints #Wow you get to choose from, -Fresh lemon wedges, - Salt, - Vinegar and even chilli sauce, - Ketchup and mustard... I started eating fish & chips as a little boy surfing on Bondi Beach, as an adult I made the trek to the UK., during my master's and ate heaps of fish & chips from the mother land... So how good was it, third (3rd)in line, 1. Australia 2. The United Kingdom 3. Fish on the Rocks Yes, I purposely didn't say South Africa as number three (3), because fish and chips are both, 'Hit-and-Miss', in South Africa, from soggy, to overcooked and oily... Fish on the Rocks oil was clean, there was no oil taste, we even went back and ordered a small chips (R40), it wasn't a small chips, #SoGood We highly recommend this spot, which is located right on the water, where in season is a Cape Town Whale watching spot, it's the perfect location after Bondi Beach, Sydney Australia to have fish & chips... By-the-way, it is next Hout Bay markets, and just around the corner from the beach and family restaurants... #GreatFamilyDay

Great place and the food is fresh. The signs outside that say that you have to keep an eye on your handbag and phones, give the impression that it is unsafe to sit and enjoy your food. I could hardly take a picture, nevermind video calling loved ones far away without stressing about being robbed. There is also no sea view to enjoy. Quite pricey as well. I can tell that they are trying hard to keep thugs out and trying to make it a great experience, but cannot help the concerns. Food is very fresh, massive portions and delicious, so still worth trying it out.

A stop in Hout bay for Fish on the Rocks is must whenever in Cape Town! This probably the best fish and chips in the CPT. Always fresh, always tasty! They are usually busy during peak times and you may wait a while to get your order but definitely worth the wait! The hake, calamari and chips combo is delicious. The prawns are also a good option.
Nabeel K — Google review
The fish was fresh and well made, not too oily...could use a little more flavour tho, overall the place is so pretty with a seal that came to say hi
Fatima H — Google review
The food is 10/10, quality drops a little when the place is packed but still tastes amazing. The perfect Capetonian experience of having fresh fish beachside on the rocks!
Casey T — Google review
Amazing as Expected. Only downside are the occasional beggars. Some of them really do not respect your food, privacy or even personal space. Otherwise exceptional Food!

Restaurant
The Lighthouse Cafe, located in Bloubergstrand and Simonstown, offers stunning views of Table Mountain and a relaxed atmosphere. The cafe is perfect for a casual meal or coffee while enjoying the beach scenery. With a menu featuring items like croissants, quiches, paninis, mussels, fish and chips, burgers, pizzas, pastas and more; there's something for everyone.
Highly recommend the lighthouse! The service was exceptional and friendly. No request was too big. The fish and chips was so fresh and beautifully cooked. Nice size glass of wine. Cosy atmosphere with a romantic setting. We will be back!

Great romantic spot, staff, service and food was outstanding. Definitely visiting them again. And the Apple Berry crumble is amazing!!!

⸻ I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Lighthouse Café near Boulders Beach. The manager, Brie , in photo was fantastic — so welcoming and genuinely passionate about what they do. He kindly introduced me to the chef and owner, Mike, whose knowledge of food and wine was exceptional. Mike gave me the best recommendations for wineries, and I actually changed my entire last-day itinerary based on his advice — it turned out to be one of the best days of my trip! His insights into food science and cooking were inspiring; he even taught me how to cook fish perfectly, a lesson I’ll be bringing back home to London. A truly memorable visit — thank you to the entire team for making it so special.

We had a wonderful lunch at this restaurant! The mussels were the best I've ever had. Everyone in our family really enjoyed their meal. The restaurant design is cosy, the staff is very friendly and attentive and the wine pours generous. Highly recommend and we would love to come back!

Took a stop here after visiting cape of hope and ordered Pizza and Pasta. Good food though a little low on flavour. Ambience was great and service was awesome. Just a tip the menu on Google maps is outdated.

We have been there two days in a row (3rd and 4th of October, 2025) and even joked about extending our stay in Simon’s Town by an extra day just to have a third dinner at this amazing local place. The restaurant has a charming maritime flair, warm and attentive service, and absolutely delicious seafood. Everything is fresh and of high quality, and depending on the local catch of the day, they offer fantastic daily specials. Hint: Given that the restaurant is often fully booked, a reservation is highly recommended.

Had an absolutely fabulous lunch here with the family. The burger was the best burger I have had in a very long time. Thick patty and cooked to order - medium rare. Every other dish looked amazing and there was nothing other than complimentary comments from the rest of the group. Fish and chips - amazing, Pie and mussels very good. Creme Brulé excellent.

Warm friendly service and the food was top quality. I'll definitely be back again soon.

Aneesa's TAKE AWAYS

Takeout Restaurant
Aneesa's TAKE AWAYS is a delightful spot for those craving hearty comfort food without breaking the bank. Known as the Home of the Vienna and chip parcel, this eatery serves up generous portions of three, five, or seven Vienna sausages atop a mound of hot chips, all smothered in their signature sauce. While it may not be the healthiest option around, it's perfect for satisfying those indulgent cravings.
It was so good I ate half of the half and got sick from over eating but would probably do it again tbh... good stuff. And yes, Aneesa went to Aneesa's 😅
Aneesa H — Google review
The quality of the food is despicable. Damn. There’s no love or passion in the food. The chips are old and lifeless, a smidge of atchar, they really skimped on the amount, we could barely taste the atchar, one slap of piling on each piece of Gatsby. Rather disappointing and such an absolute waste of money. They’ve put more focus on the packaging than the actual delivery of food. The quality has dropped tremendously. Focus on your food quality, because ew!!!
Alia — Google review
It's a nice takeaway spot famous for Gatsby so I decided to try it. It's good food at a cheap price but that's about it

I bought a Vienna parcel with chips the chips were soaked in some spices and chilly there’s no sauce in the food it’s so bad,Vienna are old the chips does not have life in them The worst ever .. I’m sick right now I’m going to report you guys to the department of health and inspection is needed urgently at that shop .. Nonsense man😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

We’ve had our fair share of disappointments with other establishments in the past, but Aneesa’s Wynberg has never once let us down. Our go-to order (as insisted on by our two kids!) is the Full House “gebba” with braised steak – and every single time, it arrives perfectly packaged, piping hot, and absolutely delicious. A heartfelt thank you to the amazing team at Aneesa’s Wynberg for your consistently wonderful service and mouth-watering meals. You’ve made loyal fans out of our whole family! 💙
Charné P — Google review
Busy place, below average gatsby. Got my order wrong, so I had to get home call and drove back to get my order right. If my kids dont finish a meal you must know something is up. My Masala Vienna and masala Steak were bland, lacked a lot of spice and and had far too much onion on. Even the chips lacked any flavour which is sacrilegious Unfortunately won't be returning here anytime soon. Good prices but I would rather pay a little more for quality.
Zaheer P — Google review
I wish there was a no star option. The quality of your food was below standard this evening. Hardly any chips on the gatsby, the onions tasted like tinned smooth. I can't believe that this is the same place we usually order from. Where is the consistency in your food quality and delivery??
Nadia K — Google review
Im Absolutely blown away!!! we have eaten from your branch many times. Vienna and Chips, Masala Sreak Parcels and so on.... BUT OH MY WORD!!!.... We just ordered a Mutton Curry Gatsby..... FANTASTIC!!! SO PACKED WITH THAT TRADITIONAL Mutton Curry flavors... Wow, Wow... wow. Definitely the best Gatsby we've ever had.
