Island
Robben Island, located 11 kilometers from Cape Town in Table Bay, is a significant historical landmark and UNESCO World Heritage site. It served as a prison, hospital, and military base between the 17th and 20th centuries. The island is renowned for housing political prisoners like Nelson Mandela during the apartheid era. Visitors can take guided tours led by former inmates to gain insights into South Africa's struggle for freedom. The maximum-security prison buildings stand as reminders of the country's journey to democracy.
What better way to understand living conditions on the infamous Robben Island than to hear it from an actual prisoner. Tours of the island are very thorough from the narrated Bus Tour of the island itself to the Prisoner guided section of the physical confines of the buildings. Bathroom breaks are before and after the tour. The ferry ride was smooth as pie. A break is provided for patrons during the bus tour. Picture opportunities are limited of the surrounding area on the bus tour but one location is setup for the Instagram tags. More pics can be taken of the prison premises during the guided tour. Guides are very knowledgeable and super friendly. As a part of the tour you will get a chance to see Mandela's cell. The Gift shop is located on the dock. Tickets can be purchased online or at the booth. Parking in available at paid garages on the V&A Waterfront.
Ashley M — Google review
We took a boat ride to the island and then toured by bus with a guide who shared some historical insights, which was great. However, the part we were most looking forward to - the prison visit - was disappointing. Instead of a proper tour, we sat through a one-hour political speech from a former inmate, which felt unnecessary and even put some people to sleep. When it finally ended, we only visited three rooms of the prison, and some of the "facts" we were told turned out to be inaccurate. We would have loved to explore more of the site

tremendous experience of seeing the jail where Nelson Mandela was for 17 years . a place also known for being the military base of the southern Africans in the second war .

Worthwhile and historically significant tour at a UNESCO world heritage site! All-in tour took over 4 hours from showing up at meeting point to get on ferry until returning to CapeTown waterfront. Two phase on the tour: bus and walking tour. Really enjoyed the history provided by the wonderful tour guides. Recommend highly as a learning experience for all ages. Unity for All.
Jerry R — Google review
So sad to have been there and not experienced it properly. The site has such a big a historical significance, but is poorly managed in every way: The boat ride was not really properly planned and we had to wait an hour after our departure time for another boat to come in. On the way back, the water were very choppy and they didn’t really care much about safety and well being of passengers. The site itself - we were taken on a bus minute bus tour around the island, which included very little information, followed by a 10 minute stop at the refreshment station for a restroom and snacks break (really!?). Inside the prison we were accompanied by N Ex political prisoner, who sadly wasn’t really trained on how to conduct tours and rushed through it with no personal angle. Since this entire experience took 5.5 hours in practice, and the information we received from it was so little, I would suggest to skip and watch the Mandela movie instead.
Ido N — Google review
Rather depressing place. If your tour company can’t get you in, or you can’t get a ticket online, just visit the museum behind the clock tower and buy a ticket in person. There are some tickets kept for in person purchases; and always no show and cancellation so you are almost guaranteed to get a ticket there. 600 R for ferry admission and guide. My guides were actually prisoners in Robben island during the apartheid regime. They were put in Robben island prison for demonstration and protest, charged and convicted of traitor. Make sure tip them generously.
Silvia X — Google review
One of the must see places in South Africa with its own unique flavor of beauty and and intrigue. The bus tour around the island can use a bit of a revamp and more time to stop at the different places to take photos and take in the moment. The prison tour it self is very insightful and educational.

So we took a boat and at first we didn't like the seat caz it was at the bottom but then we got off went on the bus and saw thing like the prisons and that but when we went inside it was nice a first but then the guide started talking and he forgot to mention his name that is okay but when we started like be in a rush then he talked and talked they went and the guide didn't even ask if everyone was here so I and my family got lost then we found them but then again we got lost and guy with us so then we tried to find the exit,we went out,got to the boat and then saw the people that were with us it was fun but at the end no...🌸

The V&A Waterfront, situated in Table Bay Harbour at the foot of Cape Town City Centre, is a sprawling complex that encompasses residences, commercial establishments, dining venues, retail outlets and an art museum. Spanning over 123 hectares and divided into five distinct sections, it offers an array of more than 450 stores catering to diverse interests from local crafts to international brands. This popular tourist spot boasts a variety of dining options and entertainment such as street performances and a Ferris wheel.
The waterfront is so beautiful to behold. It has so many shops with a variety of different items to purchase and there is a wide range of eateries to pick from. There various boats of all shapes and sizes on the port. I was able to enjoy a sunset cruise from a boat company that offer them on the waterfront. The hop and off tour company also offer a sunset cruise in one of their packages.

The V&A Waterfront in Cape Town is beautiful, lively, and feels very safe to explore. There’s so much to do — from boat rides and museums to street performers and gorgeous harbor views. The food options are fantastic, and the shopping has everything from local crafts to big-name stores. A perfect spot for families, strolling, and soaking in Cape Town’s charm.

Had an amazing solo day at the V&A Waterfront. The atmosphere was vibrant with live music and great energy all around. I even decided to take an hour cruise on my own and it ended up being the best part of the day. Peaceful, beautiful views, and a perfect way to unwind. Whether you’re with people or exploring alone, the Waterfront makes you feel right at home. Definitely worth a visit! 🌊🎶🚤

We loved this area as it was always lively and felt very safe. We are at a number of restaurants in the area and they were all good. It’s also the centre for boat, helicopter trips etc. street entertainers as well as all the shops.

Gardens
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is a stunning hillside garden and nature reserve that boasts rare plant species, walking trails, and breathtaking mountain views. Spanning 52,800 square kilometers, it is renowned for its unique flora and captivating location. The main entrance features an information center, souvenir shop, and a conservatory ideal for breakfast. The Tree Canopy Walkway, also known as the 'Boomslang,' offers panoramic views as it winds through the trees.
This is an exceptionally large and beautiful garden, with so much to explore and enjoy. You can easily spend several hours here and still discover new areas of interest. Be mindful of the pathways, as it’s easy to wander onto the hiking trails—some of which involve quite a climb! There is also a restaurant near the entrance of the garden that offers excellent service, quick turnaround, and delicious food. It’s worth noting that access to the restaurant is only available once you’ve entered the garden. South African citizens should remember to bring their ID or passport to make use of the local discount. 🌸 Highly recommended for nature lovers, families, and anyone looking for a peaceful yet engaging outing.

A truly beautiful garden! This place is a hidden gem.. The garden is filled with so many rare and incredibly beautiful flowers..as well as some stunning artistic statues.. It's the perfect spot for walking..relaxing..and just enjoying nature. The place is absolutely massive..so one day is definitely not enough to see it all..I'll definitely be back and next time inshallah I'll make sure to visit for at least two days to truly appreciate everything it has to offer.. Highly recommend it!

Kirstenbosch is truly one of South Africa’s national treasures! The gardens are breathtakingly beautiful — perfectly maintained and showcasing the incredible diversity of our country’s flora. The peaceful walking trails, shady lawns, and stunning mountain backdrop make it the ideal place to unwind and reconnect with nature. The Tree Canopy Walkway (the “Boomslang”) offers amazing views, and there’s always something new in bloom no matter the season. The restaurant and tea garden are lovely too — a great spot to relax after a stroll. Highly recommended for locals and visitors alike. Whether you love plants, photography, or just a peaceful picnic in nature, Kirstenbosch never disappoints!
Anita S — Google review
A very beautiful place for a visit. You could spend weeks enjoying the varied flora and fauna. The garden is very well cared for with a diverse range of plants. The fynbos section, which is a bit away from the entrance, is quieter and quite special. The boomslang bridge is a good addition that allows easy access to the tree canopy. A wide variety of birds are present and we were pleased to spot an eagle owl in one of the trees. Do visit the cafe for some very fresh, light and tasty scones 😋.
D B — Google review
This place took our breath away! The gardens and the spectacular views are something you see in magazines. You choose what to do here, you can do the trails and see all the botanical garden has to offer or you can set up a blanket on the floor and have a relaxing picnic while you enjoy the breathtaking views. If I lived in Cape Town, I would have an annual membership because I would be coming not only to see and enjoy the garden but also to enjoy all the events they offer. If you love nature, this is the place for you!!!
Cynthia R — Google review
Kirstenbosch is truly one of the most beautiful botanical gardens I’ve ever been to. The greenery is absolutely breathtaking vibrant flowers, towering trees, and perfectly kept trails all set against the dramatic backdrop of Table Mountain. The energy of this place is so peaceful and uplifting. You can wander for hours, have a picnic on the lawns, or just sit and take in the views. On some days, there’s live music in the gardens, which makes it even more special listening to a concert surrounded by nature is an experience you’ll never forget. If you’re visiting Cape Town, this is an absolute must. It’s a beautiful, serene escape that shows off the heart of South Africa’s natural beauty.

Quick Takeaways 🌳 Immaculately maintained: The gardens are beautifully managed and visually stunning. 🚗 Easy to reach: Accessible by car with clear signage; hiking trails also lead to the gardens (honesty system applies if you enter on foot). 🅿️ Ample parking: Plenty of space for cars, vans, and coaches, though multiple entrances can make leaving a bit confusing. 🗺️ Navigation: A map is provided, but the numbered signs throughout the grounds are often easier to follow. ⏰ Time needed: Plan at least half a day — ideally a full one — to explore everything. 🥾 Terrain: Steep areas and lots of stairs make for a good workout, especially along the perimeter trails. 🌉 Highlights: The canopy walk, art installations, sculptures, and a small waterfall feature add variety and charm. 🍽️ Facilities: The restaurant and shop are well-sized, offering a great range of local produce and souvenirs. 💯 Overall: A must-visit attraction — peaceful, expansive, and lovingly cared for, perfect for both casual visitors and hiking enthusiasts. Full Review The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are beautifully managed and immaculately maintained — a truly stunning destination that perfectly showcases South Africa’s rich plant life. Getting there is simple: you can drive directly to the gardens via well-signposted roads, or hike in via one of the numerous trails that connect to the site. For those arriving on foot, there’s an honesty system in place — you’re expected to head to the main ticket office to pay for entry, even though the trails give you open access to the grounds. Once on site, parking is plentiful for cars, vans, and even coaches. The only slightly confusing part is that there are at least two main entrances and two parking areas, which can make leaving a bit tricky — especially after exploring such a large area on foot! Visitors are given a simple map upon entry. I found it attractive and easy to understand in design, but in practice I relied more on the numbered signs dotted around the gardens to orient myself. There’s so much to see here that a couple of hours won’t do it justice. The perimeter trails offer some of the best panoramic views of the gardens and surrounding mountains, but they are quite steep and involve a fair number of stairs, so be ready for some uphill walking. One of the standout attractions is the canopy walk, a beautifully curved bridge that briefly takes you through the treetops — a unique and memorable perspective. The gardens are also dotted with sculptures and artworks that blend naturally with the landscape, adding visual interest at every turn. With so many winding footpaths, it’s easy to miss smaller features. I nearly walked past a charming little waterfall and stream but was glad I didn’t — it was one of my favourite quiet spots. I also walked the upper perimeter and was rewarded with stunning, wide-open views across the gardens and the city beyond. At the end of the visit, the on-site restaurant and shop are both excellent — spacious, well-stocked, and offering a great selection of local produce and gifts. Overall, Kirstenbosch is a must-visit location. It’s clear that the gardens are lovingly cared for, and with so much to explore — from manicured lawns and forested slopes to art and architecture — you could easily spend an entire day here and still not see it all.

The best and biggest botanical garden I've ever been. A whole collection of plants from Africa put in together in a perfect landscape composition. I had lunch at Moyo restaurant and it was also great. I spent 5 hours getting lost and taking pictures.

Boulders Beach, located near Simons Town along the False Bay coastline in Cape Town, is a must-visit destination. It offers a sheltered public bay with a sandy beach and boardwalk where visitors can witness the free-roaming colony of African penguins in their natural habitat. This unique experience allows tourists, families, and travelers to get up close and personal with these charming marine creatures.
You will learn so much about these magnetic and majestic creatures, this is an absolute must stop. The area itself is gorgeous and the beach has truly breathtaking views. We saw a lot of wildlife in the area besides penguins, but the penguins were the highlight. While a bit emotional learning of some of the statistics about the penguins, they seem to really try to be bringing the numbers up for the population. The penguins have little “houses” to help with breeding and caring for young. The signs have a lot of information and the walk to the actual penguins themselves is a comfortable walk down a slope. The price isn’t bad and helps conservation efforts. They have bathrooms and a small gift shop at the top. The penguins themselves were very pretty and even took a dip in the ocean when we were visiting. There are two viewing spots to see the penguins themselves, both are accessible from the same area. Make a stop to see the wonderful penguins and get some great photos of them in their natural habitat!
Amber — Google review
One of our absolute favourite beaches! It’s small and quiet, and sheltered from the wind. You must check the tides, and the beach disappears in high tide, and the tide rises very quickly if you’re on the beach. There is an entrance fee, and you need to provide ID for SA resident fees, so remember to bring it or have a digital copy ready. You won’t be guaranteed to see penguins, as they are wild so roam about. So if you do, enjoy them. Don’t chase them, they’ll swim and wonder around the people. You’ll definitely see dassies, they are quite tame but still wild so don’t try pet them. Highly recommend

Boulders Beach in Cape Town is an absolute gem! 🐧 The highlight, of course, is getting up close to the adorable African penguins — it’s such a unique experience watching them waddle around . The beach itself is stunning, with crystal-clear water and huge granite boulders that make it feel like a private little paradise. It’s a great spot for families, couples, or anyone who loves nature and the ocean. The water can be a bit chilly, but it’s perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot day. Make sure to bring your camera — the views and penguins are picture-perfect! 📸 Definitely one of Cape Town’s must-visit attractions!
Matthew P — Google review
A must visit place while visiting Cape Town. Penguins are not found everywhere hence seeing these here in wild and natural setting is not to be missed. I visited the place in October, when it was spring season at this place, I must say this is the best time to visit Cape Town. It is about a 1.5 hours journey from Cape town, however the journey in between is so pretty that you enjoy every bit of it. Along the journey you are passing on a coastal road which has breath taking sea views. Also, you pass through beautiful mountains covered with very beautiful natural flora and fauna that you would not have seen in any other part of the world. The natural wild flowers of this area are very unique. Once you reach the Boulders beach, you need to park your transport in the parking area, then you have to walk for some time to reach the Boulders beach. The walk itself is interesting. You have many souvenir shops in between and a proper souvenir shop at the boulders beach. On this way little children dressed in traditional dresses were dancing and singing local songs to entertain the visitors. You can join the dancing and have fun or you can have some pictures with them. Boulders beach itself is very pretty. Clear blue sae water, white sand, proper pathways to reach the beach and the Penguins itself. It was very much full of fun. Fully recommended.

A wonderful place to see penguins! We visited on July 25, 2025, in the middle of the day during winter. The beach was peaceful with only a few visitors, though that also meant fewer penguins since many had already headed out to sea. If you want to see the most activity, definitely go first thing in the morning. The boardwalk is very well maintained—clean, safe, and super family-friendly—and absolutely worth the entrance fee. If you continue past the boardwalk to the beach area, you can scramble over the rocks and get even closer. We loved weaving over, under, and through the enormous boulders- I even managed to get a selfie with a penguin! We spotted adorable baby penguins covered in fluffy gray feathers, adults waddling awkwardly across the sand, couples preening each other, and others belly-flopping into the water. Cute little marmots were also hanging out on the rocks and in the bushes. It was such a special experience—fun, memorable, and great for all ages.

Absolutely breathtaking. The huge white boulders against the aquamarine colour of the sea is picturesque. Very small swimming area, an entrance fee is payable. Comfortable wooden walkways with many interesting things to see on the way. Viewing area is little small, and an entrance fee is payable.

Boulders Beach, near Simon’s Town outside Cape Town, is a truly special place — beautiful, charming, and full of personality. The sheltered cove formed by ancient granite boulders creates calm, clear pools perfect for swimming, especially for children or anyone wanting gentler waters. Its biggest draw, of course, is the African penguin colony: watching them waddle, swim, nest, and interact is both heartwarming and unforgettable. Facilities are decent — boardwalks, viewing platforms, parking, restrooms and a little shop. Heads up: it gets busy, especially mid-day, and there’s an entrance fee (which goes toward conservation). Also, since the penguins are wild, one must be careful, respectful, and follow all rules about maintaining distance. Overall, Boulders Beach is a must-visit if you’re in Cape Town — scenic, serene, and seeing penguins in nature makes the trip truly worthwhile.

It is always lovely to see the pinguïns, also the little beach on the side (included in entry fee) is very nice to relax on! Only downside is that if the just dropped of a bus of tourists, you might struggle to get a good photo opportunity.

Nature & Parks
The Two Oceans Aquarium, located at the V&A Waterfront, is a captivating indoor aquarium and conservation center that provides an immersive experience for visitors. It offers a variety of exhibitions and interactive opportunities for children to learn about marine life. The facility is home to a diverse array of sea creatures from both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, including sharks, stingrays, jellyfish, turtles, and colorful fish.
We went on a Tuesday morning. There was no queue to get in and 2 of pur guests had free access because it was their birthday month. It was quite busy as there were several school groups going through but it wasn't unpleasantly busy. There are a few interactive sections, and displays low down so children can see. We saw penguin feeding and shark feeding and the kids loved it! There is a good variety of sea animals to see too. It is stroller/wheelchair friendly. Parking is across the road. We gave our kids disposable cameras and they took really cute photos and it was a great activity for them. Would highly recommend this as a kids activity (but also good for adults).

One of the best places I’ve ever visited! As a sea and fish lover..it felt like a dream.. I spent almost three hours enjoying every detail.. The jellyfish room is so artistic and beautiful! Staff are very friendly..I visited twice — the first time was much better..since the second visit was too crowded with school trips..My advice: avoid peak hours for the best experience…

Loved learning about the different kinds of fish in the SA ocean bed. A very large aquarium. Largest I’ve ever seen and experienced. I applaud the team for putting it together - I think a lot of thought went into its planning. A very nice experience.

The Two Oceans Aquarium is one of Cape Town’s must-visit attractions — perfect for families, couples, and anyone who loves marine life! Located right at the V&A Waterfront, it’s easy to get to and packed with incredible exhibits. You’ll see everything from colorful tropical fish and jellyfish to sharks, turtles, and penguins. 🐧🦈 The displays are well-designed, and the information is easy to follow — you actually learn a lot while having fun! There’s even a touch pool for kids and curious visitors who want to get a hands-on experience. One of the best parts? The large viewing tanks — standing in front of them feels like being underwater. It’s also a great spot for photos and videos, with beautiful lighting and crystal-clear views of the ocean life. 📸✨ The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the aquarium’s focus on conservation and ocean awareness really stands out. You can tell they care deeply about protecting marine ecosystems.

This was a choice because of the bad weather, but then we realized this must be a key highlight of Cape Town when you visit the city. It's a real blast! Super recommended!!! Everything is so clean and well maintained - kudos to the workers and the management. You can find almost every species of what belongs to the sea.
Black_bourbon87 — Google review
We've learned a lot about marine life, discovering new species I didn't know existed, endangered species, warm and cold water species. This is the best largest aquarium I've been to. World class standard, perfectly laid out, there's pause areas, coffee stations and ablutions. Definitely coming back here with my family!

Really wonderful to see the sea creatures in somewhat of their natural habitat. It is great for kids and took us about 2 hours to go through everything (without the feeding). Great variety and the big aquariums are just memorizing to sit and watch. If you need to unwind from this busy and crazy world this is an absolutely tranquil experience. The sharks and sea turtles are worth it on their own

The District Six Museum, located in the Buitenkant Methodist Church, is a poignant reminder of the forced removal and demolition of homes that took place during apartheid in the 1970s. The museum's name pays homage to the once diverse and multiracial community of District Six, which was declared a whites-only area by the apartheid government.
My husband and daughter and I went. it was an awesome place we paid for a guided tour. The person we had was the older gentleman, and he gave us the best information ever. He was so knowledgeable. Not only did he understand the dynamics of what took place in Cape Town but he also experienced it personally. I did get awfully close and lean in to hear him because he was soft spoken and my hearing is a little bad. He didn't mind at all when I asked him to repeat things and I absolutely appreciate that. This museum has so much history, tears and joy. they also have wonderful recipes on the wall, which I plan on trying lol . But coming from the USA. I definitely understand the story different place on the globe but same act of greed and racism that can destroy.. next time I come back to South Africa. I will definitely come here again because there was a lot of information to take in and also I would come back just to support them. Thank you.

Located in main area. Uber and bolt taxis can be booked here. It is a good museum to know and feel history of South Africa. It will be 1 to 2 hours to look. Camera and camcorders can be used inside. Not much crowd here. Will be closed by 5 PM. History lovers will love this place.
Aranganathan S — Google review
I found the museum a let down. We missed the timing for guided tour and had to cover the exhibits on our own. They consisted of an overload of images of newspaper clippings and articles which were in small font and too numerous to be digested. Nowhere were there crisp summaries of the key issues and nor was the museum’s layout curated in a manner that lent itself to a self guided tour. There was no information booklet and the person at the counter was quite disengaged and unhelpful. Disappointing because it’s a lost opportunity to tell a compelling story related to the town’s fairly recent history with racism and apartheid.
Ramdas P — Google review
The museum has a lot of history on South Africa including Apartheid, formation of District six and displacement of the original residents. Though the stories are heartbreaking they are well explained and helps one to understand the history. Very educative museum.

Non-whites displaced. Fares should be free for non whites, a lot less even for tourists. They should have music from the kloppse making some sounds from the times. Good info but info can be found easily online so the place needs an energy from district 6 that makes one feel it in some way. The rooms were cool. Felt nostalgic. Even the smell in the air in those bedroom sets felt like being 4 years old again.

Greenmarket Square is a bustling market located in a historical square that dates back to the late 1600s. It offers a vibrant atmosphere with stalls selling locally made art, crafts, clothing, and African curios. The market is known for its colorful wall hangings, paintings, necklaces, toys, and lively music from street musicians. Over the years, it has transformed from a vegetable market and watering hole to a lively flea market where visitors can enjoy bargaining for goods within reason.
Great place to spend time buying some real art and craft from South Africa. Buy clothes, native musical instruments, paintings, leather and jewellery. Lots of souvenir and gifting items available here. Make sure you bargain well for the best price.
Mohit M — Google review
Located in a very central area along long street, the market is composed of easily around 30 stalls selling magnets, keyrings, traditional African clothes, handcrafts, caps, decorative items and bracelets among others. Large variety of stuffs sold at high prices that you should at least divide by 3 to obtain a fair price. However, sometimes you can get better prices without much bargain in Pan African Market ( a building found 100m away) or cheaper fixed prices in African Curiosity (V&A Waterfront). The market is active as from 9-10am till 5pm everyday, and amazingly as it might seem, they dismantle every stall at the end of the day and mount them again the next day, every single day.

A good number of souvenirs shops are located here from 0900-1700 everyday.. You have bargain at least 50%
ABU M — Google review
Classic souvenirs are sold here. Prices should be negotiated. There are similar souvenirs sold at different stalls so be a little bit patient and walk through the square before buying at first stall you see.

Loads of options for African handicrafts big and small to take home as souvenirs. The options on fridge magnets was great there were no handcrafted or unique fridge magnet purchase options available as in Lesotho. The fridge magnets were also pricier than say Boulder beach SAN park gift shop. The vendors are pleasant and easy to talk to, and they don't hassle you into buying stuff. I mainly went to purchase a handcrafted ostrich egg, which was cheaper than the ones I saw in other gift shops.

The Castle of Good Hope, a 17th-century colonial fortress, is a significant historical site in South Africa. It was constructed by Jan van Riebeeck and the Dutch East India Company to protect early settlers and maintain law and order. The castle's strategic location near the Company Gardens served as a refreshment station for passing ships, providing fresh produce. This oldest building in South Africa was built with local stone by soldiers and slaves.
A very interesting and meaningful experience, especially from a historical perspective. You can explore well-preserved interiors, old prison cells, the central courtyard, and exhibitions from the colonial era. The guided tour adds great context and depth to the visit. A fascinating look into South Africa’s complex past – definitely worth seeing if you’re in Cape Town.

Quick Takeaways ⚔️ Built between 1666 and 1679 by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) to defend Table Bay — making it the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa. 📍 Located in the historic heart of Cape Town, just a short walk from City Hall and the Grand Parade. 🚶 Easy access via foot, car, or public transport — parking available outside the main gates. ⚠️ The area is a tourist crime hotspot — visit in a group or with a guide, and keep valuables out of sight. 🧱 Architecture is impressive and historically rich, but exhibits are sparse and dated. 👀 Great for history enthusiasts, but may disappoint those seeking an engaging or family-friendly experience. Full Review The Castle of Good Hope sits in the heart of old Cape Town, just a stone’s throw from the City Hall and the Grand Parade. Unfortunately, this area is also known as a tourist crime hotspot, so it’s best to go in a group or with a guide. Keep phones, cameras, and cash hidden — even lanyards won’t stop opportunistic thefts, as thieves are known to simply cut the cords. That said, there’s a strong visible presence of police, private security, and public protection officers, which helps to keep things in check. The fort isn’t tall or visually imposing from a distance, so you’ll likely be within a few feet before realising you’ve reached it. Parking outside the main gates is usually fine, and access by bus, train, or taxi is straightforward — traffic rules are fairly relaxed around the site. Originally built by the Dutch East India Company between 1666 and 1679, the Castle was designed to protect Dutch interests at the Cape. It once stood directly on the coastline, but land reclamation over the centuries has pushed the sea almost a kilometre away, making its current setting look oddly inland. Once inside, you’ll notice immediately that it’s a bit tired and in need of care. The ticket office is basic — essentially an old wrap-around desk — though service is quick enough. Beyond that is the first courtyard, where you’ll find a small café and toilets. Aside from a 25-pounder field gun, a tractor, and a few statues, there’s not much happening here beyond the architecture itself. Several small museum rooms branch off from this area. While some effort has gone into them, the exhibits feel bland and underdeveloped, offering limited engagement or context — I’ll review those separately. The fort’s layout is large and easy to explore. I started at the top and worked my way through the bastions — named after the titles of William III of Orange-Nassau: Leerdam, Buuren, Katzenellenbogen, Nassau, and Oranje. Each bastion has basic signage and cannons, but little else to hold your attention. Some of the rooms are accessible, including the old provost (jail), which features graffiti carved by prisoners, and the torture chamber, which holds a handful of small exhibits. When I visited, preparations were underway in the second courtyard for a private event — aside from that, the site was very quiet, with few tourists around. Overall, the architecture and history of the Castle are genuinely impressive, but the interior content and displays are underwhelming. It’s not particularly engaging for families or casual tourists. Unless you’re passionate about fortifications, military history, or Dutch colonial architecture, this is one you could comfortably skip.
MilPoPo — Google review
Thus historic site is well worth a visit. It is a great value for money time-filler. The staff are welcoming and helpful. Allow 1.5 hours tops. There is a cafe on site. The toilets are very clean.

Sadly we're to attend as part of a Cape Town tour & when we parked our guide was informed by another guide that no entry to fort. We entered the fort & was advised by security that no entry due to Private Function that evening. Our guide was able to explain some things to us at the entrance. On exiting we met by 2 more tour guides with their guests who were unaware of the closure. There was no obvious signage regarding the closure & clearly the broader tourist industry was unaware of the closure.

What an amazing experience! Visiting Cape Point felt like standing at the edge of the world! The views are unreal — cliffs, endless ocean, and fresh sea air that just makes you feel alive. We hiked up to the old lighthouse and the views from the top were worth every step. Spotted a few baboons and even some ostriches along the way, which made the trip even more fun. The whole place feels peaceful and wild at the same time. Definitely one of the highlights of our Cape Town trip! 🌊🌿

Cape point, or Cape of Good Hope, is located inside the Table Mountain National Park of Cape Town. It is located at the southeast corner of Cape peninsula. I visited the place in October, when it was spring season at this place, I must say this is the best time to visit Cape Town. It is about a 2.5 hours journey from Cape town, however the journey in between is so pretty that you enjoy every bit of it. Along the journey you are passing on a coastal road which has breath taking sea views. Also, you pass through beautiful mountains covered with sooo much beautiful natural flora and fauna that you would not have seen in any other part of the world. The natural wild growing flowers of this area are very unique and I was taken aback by their beauty. Unfortunately, I was not able to take pictures of many of these as you see these during your journey and you cannot stop the transport at every spot. However still you can break your journey at many paces to take pictures and for relaxation. Cape point itself is very beautiful. On reaching the place you take a shuttle “Flying Dutchman “, to reach the uphill view point. At the top you still have a small hike to reach up or you can enjoy at the same level. Views at this place are remarkable. When you come down there is a souvenir shop at the spot. Excitement do not end here. On your way back you take a left turn from the main road and after a small ride you reach at the sea level view point. This itself is a very beautiful place to witness a beautiful sunset at southern east point of the Cape Peninsula. To add sensation to the site, wild ostriches were wandering here and there at the sea shore.

Ride the funicular (also called the Flying Dutchman) from the lower station up to the viewpoint below the old lighthouse. The Old Lighthouse (1859): Up on the cliffs, with great viewpoints.Dramatic cliff tops — perfect for photos. You can spot whales (especially from June to October) from some of the cliff lookouts. The area is rich in fynbos (a very unique vegetation type), and there are over 1,100 plant species in the reserve. Baboons are common — but be careful around them. Historical / Cultural Points. There are monuments linked to explorers like Bartolomeu Dias and Vasco da Gama. You can do the Shipwreck Trail to see some of the 26 recorded shipwrecks along the coast.

The Cape of Good Hope, situated on the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula in South Africa, marks the most south-western point of the African continent. For centuries it has been a place of both fear and fascination—known for its treacherous waters where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans converge, creating powerful currents, sudden storms, and unpredictable weather. Originally named the “Cape of Storms” by the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias in 1488, it represented one of the greatest challenges of early maritime exploration. Later renamed to the “Cape of Good Hope”, symbolizing the promise of a new sea route to the riches of the East—India and beyond. This renaming reflected optimism that the route would open unprecedented opportunities for trade and expansion during the Age of Discovery. Today, the Cape of Good Hope forms part of the Table Mountain National Park, renowned for its dramatic cliffs, rugged coastline, and rich biodiversity, including baboons, ostriches, and many bird species. It is located about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Cape Town, easily accessible for visitors who wish to experience both its natural beauty and its layered history. Two lighthouses stand sentinel here: the old lighthouse, built in 1859 at the summit of Cape Point, and the new lighthouse, constructed in 1919, located 162 meters lower near the tip of the promontory. The new one was built because the old lighthouse, though higher, was often obscured by fog and cloud cover, making it invisible to ships in peril. From the car parking, where you can find souvenir shops, you can take a cable car up to the old lighthouse or you can also walk (about 20 minutes). Visiting the Cape is more than a scenic outing—it is a journey through time. Its cliffs and windswept shores recall the daring of explorers who risked everything to expand the world’s horizons. A trip to the Cape of Good Hope is indeed worth every moment, offering panoramic views, natural wonders, and a deep connection to one of the great turning points of global history.

The winds were crazy there with the surf crashing on the rocks throwing spray into the air and it was totally exhilarating! So much fun and we saw seals and ostriches as a bonus. Then went to Cape Point, took the funicular up and climbed the stairs to the lighthouse. The view is incredible and saw where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic. The difference in the colors of the waters was unexpected. Well worth the drive.

The views are gorgeous from the first 100 meters and just get better from there. Beautiful flora and passing lots of friendly faces. A must when visiting beautiful Cape Town.

Great place for a medium skill level adventure. I was not sure if I would be able to climb up, but I managed. You don't need a ticket or any assistance. But make sure to have a good shoes. Rocks can be slippery. Would recommend to avoid if you are not comfortable with heights or climbing. The view on top is amazing.

Lion’s Head is one of my all-time favorite trails in Cape Town. I run up and down every second day, and it never gets old. The views from the top are absolutely breathtaking. You get to see Table Mountain, Camps Bay, and the city from every angle. The trail is well-maintained, safe during busy hours, and perfect for both hiking and running. Whether you go for sunrise or sunset, it’s pure magic every time. Highly recommended for anyone who loves fitness, nature, and incredible views.

We climbed up on the Lions Head for the sunset. The climb took about an hour for inexperienced hikers. The climb includes ladders and anchors, but nothing you would need heavy equipment for. At the summit you can take excellent pictures and enjoy the panoramic view. Simply wonderful. For the sunset, however, it is advisable to go to the intermediate level. That way, you don't have to climb down the ladders after sunset if you take the side path. For the further descent, it is advisable to take a lamp with you or to save your cell phone battery so that you can use the flash light.

Quick Takeaways 🚶‍♂️ Starting point: Began from Sea Point Geological Memorial — even reaching the trailhead is a workout! 🅿️ Accessibility: The mountain can be reached easily on foot or by car, with signs for both the summit and parking areas. 👣 Trail quality: Clear and well-marked, but uneven underfoot — sturdy shoes or boots are essential. 🌀 Ascent: Zig-zag paths at first, then steeper climbs with ladders and chains near the top. ⚠️ Hazards: Narrow paths, sheer drops, loose footing, and congestion on ladders — take care and be patient. 🌄 Views: Breathtaking panoramas from the summit — especially rewarding if you climb early to avoid crowds. ⏱️ Time: About 2 hours 50 minutes round trip from Sea Point via the summit and down to Signal Hill. 🧭 Tips: Start early, bring water, snacks, a waterproof jacket, and a warm top — weather changes quickly at higher altitude. 💯 Overall: A challenging but unforgettable experience — a must-do Cape Town hike for anyone reasonably fit. 📝 Full Review Climbing Lion’s Head Mountain was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I’m very glad I did it. I began my hike at the Sea Point Geological Memorial, and even the walk to the start of the official trail was a workout in itself — mostly on roads, but finishing with a steep climb up some moderately maintained stairs before reaching the end of the road surrounded by trees and dirt tracks. From there, a sign clearly marks the direction to the summit of Lion’s Head, and another points to the nearest car park, showing how accessible the mountain is both on foot and by vehicle. Once on the footpath to the summit, the route is very clear but uneven underfoot, so sturdy hiking boots or supportive trainers are essential. The trail zigzags steadily upward for the first section, and before long, you’re already higher than the paragliders circling the mountain. As you continue, the gradient steepens and the climb becomes more technical — still manageable for anyone with reasonable fitness, but sections are narrow, exposed, and include a bit of scrambling. There are sheer drops in places and the potential for slips, especially if the rock is damp, so it’s important to take care — there’s nothing soft to break a fall. Roughly two-thirds of the way up, you’ll encounter stainless steel ladders and chains designed to assist your ascent. These sections can become bottlenecks as people move up and down at different speeds. In fact, the biggest hazard on this hike isn’t the mountain — it’s other people. Many climbers are so focused on their own progress that they don’t notice others, leading to near collisions that could have serious consequences. Eventually, you’ll reach the summit, where you’re rewarded with spectacular 360° views over Cape Town, Table Mountain, and the Atlantic coastline. It’s often busy at the top, but if you go early in the morning, you can enjoy a quieter experience. Be aware that there are no safety barriers — you can easily walk right to the edge, so tread carefully. The descent is, in my opinion, more challenging than the ascent, as you’re negotiating all the same obstacles but from the opposite direction, with tired legs and less stability. Although I didn’t time the climb precisely, from my start at Sea Point to the summit and then down to Signal Hill took around 2 hours and 50 minutes in total. My advice: • 🕕 Start early in the morning to beat the heat and the crowds. • 🌤️ Choose a clear, calm day — conditions can change quickly near the top. • 👟 Wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots. • 💧 Bring water, snacks, and layers — including a waterproof jacket and warm top, as it can get windy and cool near the summit. Overall, Lion’s Head is a moderately challenging but truly rewarding hike — one of Cape Town’s must-do experiences. The views, the sense of achievement, and the sheer beauty of the setting make every step worthwhile.

The Old Biscuit Mill Market is a trendy destination located in Cape Town's Woodstock neighborhood. It features fashionable boutiques, food markets, and restaurants within an industrial-style setting. The highlight of the market is the Neighbourgoods Market, which takes place on weekends and offers a direct buying experience from local designers and artisans. The market serves as a community for talented individuals to collaborate and showcase their passions, including food, art, clothing, and homemade goods.
Very cool and worth a visit. Great shops, really great food (go to Pot Luck Club you will thank the gods you did). And there’s something for everyone. Got lots of cool gifties and some dope clothes that were suspiciously well priced. Gets super lively as of late afternoon with live music, dancing and great beer and cocktails for a tipsy walkabout. Also a great Maryjane store right down the road if that’s your thing.
Melissa M — Google review
The Old Biscuit Mill definitely has a unique and vibrant vibe — lots of shops, galleries, and food stalls, all packed with character and local creativity. The fresh coconut I tried was tasty and refreshing, perfect for a hot day! However, the market could really benefit from better cleanliness and organization. The layout feels a bit chaotic, with little direction or signage, making it easy to get lost. Some of the food stalls also seemed to operate in less-than-food-safe conditions, which was disappointing considering the overall reputation of the place. Still, it’s worth visiting for the atmosphere and local experience — just go with an open mind and low expectations on hygiene and structure.

Great place for a browse in the many boutique style shops and stalls. Terrific food stalls and a couple of bars with a live DJ at the weekend.

Very good spot to buy some local work - clothes, craftsman work, paintings and more. It’s not the cheapest place and it does close early in the day (as most things in Cape Town). However, you can find quality products so it could be worth the visit.

After many visits to Cape Town, I finally learned about The Biscuit Mill. Such an amazing place. Incredible selection of food from the many food stalls. Great shopping from local manufacturers of clothing, art, jewelry and more. It seems crowded, but the energy is so positive and friendly.

The Old Biscuit Mill Market is a vibrant and bustling hub that captures the essence of Cape Town’s creative and culinary spirit. Nestled in the heart of Woodstock, this market is a must-visit for food lovers, art enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a lively weekend outing. The atmosphere is electric, with a mix of locals and tourists coming together to enjoy the best of what the city has to offer. One of the standout features of the market is its incredible food stalls. From artisanal baked goods to exotic international dishes, there’s something to satisfy every craving. On my visit, I couldn’t resist trying the famous burgers from one of the on-site burger restaurants. The burger was a masterpiece—juicy, flavorful, and perfectly crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The combination of the smoky patty, melted cheese, and house-made sauce was unforgettable, and it’s easy to see why this spot has such a loyal following. Beyond the food, what truly makes the Old Biscuit Mill Market special is its friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The vendors are passionate about their offerings and always happy to chat about their products. Whether you’re sampling gourmet cheeses, sipping on locally roasted coffee, or browsing handmade crafts, the sense of community is palpable. The market’s rustic charm, with its exposed brick walls and industrial decor, adds to the overall experience, making it a feast for the senses. The Old Biscuit Mill Market is more than just a place to eat—it’s a celebration of creativity, culture, and connection. Whether you’re grabbing a bite, shopping for unique finds, or simply soaking in the lively vibe, this market is a Cape Town treasure. If you’re in the area, don’t miss it. You’ll leave with a full stomach, a smile on your face, and memories to last a lifetime.

Chapman's Peak, affectionately known as Chappies by locals, is a must-see landmark in Cape Town. This scenic mountain features the famous Chapman's Peak Drive, a 9-kilometer coastal road with 114 curves that offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding mountains. The drive takes you from Noordhoek to Hout Bay or vice versa, showcasing stunning marine scenery and the southerly extension of the Constantia Berg.
Chapman's Peak is a feast for the eyes at sunset. We were there in July and were fortunate to have great weather. It was a great experience and an awesome sight. Chapman's peak was easy to reach. It has multiple viewing point and affords one the ability to see different things.

Absolutely breathtaking! Chapman’s Peak Drive is hands down one of the most scenic routes in South Africa — maybe even the world. Every curve of the road opens up to another incredible view of the ocean, cliffs, and mountains. Whether you’re driving, cycling, or just stopping at one of the lookout points, it’s pure magic. The views over Hout Bay are postcard-perfect, and it’s an amazing spot for photos, especially at sunset. Definitely a must-do if you’re visiting Cape Town!

The Iziko South African Museum, established in 1825, is a natural history and science museum featuring an array of exhibits including fossils, animals, human tools, and clothing. Situated amidst the serene Gardens in Cape Town, it is surrounded by notable landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament and the National Gallery. The museum forms part of the wider collection managed by Iziko Museums which includes various social history museums like the Castle of Good Hope and Groot Constantia.
I found this place by accident. I didn't expect that the Planetarium would be joined with the museum, but it made for a great little afternoon to go through the museum while I waited for the Planetarium show to run. A show ticket gets you free entrance to the museum. Great deal! There are modern parts to the museum as the older parts still there. I liked that it had a large variety of things to see and yet, not overwhelm you with information about each thing. For those who get bored easily in museums, try this challenge (even kids!): Pick one subject that you see that may interest you and rest everything there about it. The rest, casually browse. This way you walk out of there learning something new with some depth. I liked how at the end of the show, there was a short lesson in identifying planets and stars using the night sky for that evening!

Located near the V&A Waterfront, Oranjezicht City Farm Market is a vibrant farmers' market that takes place every Saturday. It offers a wide array of fresh, locally grown produce including fruits, vegetables, and herbs. In addition to farm-fresh goods, visitors can also find artisanal foods such as breads, cheeses, nuts, spices, and ethically sourced meats.
Amazing market! They've got a great selection of pretty much anything you can think of: fresh produce, flowers, spices, baked goods, artisan crafts and it all looks amazing. The food court has so many different cuisines which was quite impressive, so there is definitely something for everyone. This market is a great way to discover and support local small businesses. I would come here every weekend if I lived in Cape Town.

Oranjezicht Farmers Market at the V&A is exactly what a farmers market should be, fresh produce, fantastic food and drinks, and a great atmosphere. The prices are excellent for the quality, and there’s such a wide variety that you’ll never try it all in one go. This is the kind of place worth coming back to again and again, every week if you can , because there’s always something new to enjoy. An absolute must in Cape Town!

Beautiful market. A little congested but a wide variety of alot of things. The fresh produce looked amazing. The fresh flowers were spectacular.. the nibbles and treats were good. I think most shopping on our getaway was done here.

The place is beautiful. From the name I expected, it would only involve vegetables, food, and drinks, but there was actually a variety of items for sale, and I really enjoyed walking around and looking at everything. People were having a great time. However, the prices were a bit high, especially for handicrafts and textiles. As for the food, I didn’t buy anything to be able to judge it. The place is very easy to get to, and it only opens on weekends.

Hands down one of the bougiest city markets I’ve ever visited, which would normally be a negative, but in this case, I loved it completely. The colors of the produce; the intoxicating smells from all of the different food stalls; the visual interesting crafts; the sounds of music, laughter, and commerce . . . All of it was delightful. For fellow travelers, visit it in the morning and treat yourself to a breakfast—so many food choices!!!—and then just enjoying the atmosphere.

Amazing selection from vintage plates to plates of food. Can literally choose any type of meal. Loads of venders selling freshly made meals from breakfast to pastries. Huge selection of fresh produce. Gorgeous linen dresses, pants, tops. Mo hair jerseys. View out over the harbor and sea, or the stadium. Loads of parking in the waterfront with easy access to the market.

I stayed in Cape Town for 10 days and visited this market three times! I absolutely loved it! If you’re planning a trip to Cape Town, make sure your schedule matches the days this market is open. It’s a must-visit! We especially loved the mushroom BBQ—it was incredibly tasty. Another highlight was the Khao Soi Kai inside the market. As a Thai person, I can say the flavor was just like what you’d find back home in Thailand. I highly recommend trying it! This market offers so much, especially when it comes to food. It’s one of the best markets in Cape Town, and I’ll definitely return if I ever come back. Without a doubt—yes!

A stunning stop when you take the tour bus. The wine and staff were amazing and took their time helping me explore wine for the first time. This place has a homely vibe I don't even know how else to say it, just a beautiful spot on this planet.

The wine tasting was booked for a group. We were greeted well and welcomed ro our table. We were given individual wine glasses and there was option of juice for those not taking wine. We were also given chocolates which would be paired with the five wines presented. Our first wine educator who seemed to also be busy serving other clients was rude and standoff-ish. He would pour the wine and walk off to serve others. Whereas the experience we paid for was to learn about the wines and also the different chocolate pairings. After complaining about being neglected, we were given a different wine educator who did an exceptional job. The first wine educator soured the experience and even the free glasses given at the end of the testing, we later learnt, were almost forgotten. To save the experience we took wonderful pictures of the estate.

Groot Constantia is an absolutely wonderful place to visit, and it truly is one of the most special spots in Cape Town. It holds the distinction of being the oldest wine estate in South Africa, and you can feel that history and heritage in every part of the estate. From the moment you arrive, you are greeted by rolling vineyards, majestic old oak trees, and the beautiful Cape Dutch-style buildings that give the estate its timeless charm. It really makes for a peaceful and scenic experience. The wine at Groot Constantia is exceptional. The tastings are thoughtfully arranged, and the staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely enthusiastic about sharing their love for the estate’s wines. One of the nicest touches is that you get to keep a small souvenir glass, which makes the experience feel even more special. The restaurant on the estate is another highlight. The food is excellent, the portions are generous, and the service is warm and attentive. Dining outdoors under the shade of the trees, with a glass of the estate’s wine in hand, is a truly delightful experience that lingers in your memory. It is the kind of place where you can relax, take in the scenery, and feel completely immersed in the beauty of the surroundings. My third visit here and it is still great.Wine tasting is around R170.

Muizenberg Beach is a hidden gem in Cape Town, known for its brightly painted beach huts that make it a popular spot for surfers and beachgoers. The beach boasts an active surfing community and is considered the home of surfing in South Africa. With its pristine white sand and colorful huts set against the backdrop of mountains, it's a picturesque location perfect for capturing vibrant photos.
Our favourite beach during our visit to Cape Town. One thing was that it was a lot less crowded than the likes of Camps Bay or any of the other beaches. We also felt a lot safer, and weren't constantly being bothered by beach vendors trying to flog their wares. It is a magnificent beach. A long beach with white sand and blue water. It was spotlessly clean. Muizenberg is Surfer's Corner after all, so you can expect a lot of people in the water, surfing or swimming. We visited out of tourist season and so it was relatively empty. There are plenty of cafés, coffee shops and restaurants across the road. Parking can be a bit of an issue during busy times, and signs indicated that thieves do operate in the area targeting the vehicles. But we saw policemen patrolling the street on a regular basis. The views are simply stunning. And the Shark Spotters Information Centre is somewhere you must visit and take you kids along with you! The folks at Shark Spotters are so friendly and will gladly explain what they do to keep bathers safe and help dispel some of the myths about these fantastic creatures and the reason why white shark conservation is so important.

Visited the Muizenberg Beach for the colorful huts and loved every moment of it!!! Brightly painted beach huts: These iconic, colorful huts are a distinctive feature of the beach and a popular photo spot. Surfers' Corner: Muizenberg is considered the main surfing spot in Cape Town, especially known for its gentle, rolling waves, making it ideal for beginners. Several surf schools and surf shops are located in the area. Warmer waters: The waters at Muizenberg Beach are generally warmer than those on the Atlantic Seaboard, making it a pleasant swimming spot. Blue Flag status: The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status since 2008, signifying its high standards for safety, recreational facilities, and environmental management.

Muizenberg Beach is one of my absolute favorite spots in Cape Town! The long stretch of soft sand and gentle waves make it perfect for swimming, surfing, or just relaxing by the water. It has a really fun, laid-back vibe — great for families, beginners learning to surf, or anyone looking to enjoy a classic beach day. The colorful beach huts give it so much character, and there are plenty of cafés and surf shops nearby, so it’s easy to grab a coffee or a bite after your swim. The beach is well-kept and the lifeguards make it feel safe. Parking can get busy on weekends, but it’s totally worth it for the atmosphere and views. A must-visit when you’re in Cape Town!

The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, or Zeitz MOCAA, is a must-visit destination for art lovers exploring Cape Town. This innovative museum is uniquely situated in a transformed grain silo at the V&A Waterfront, making it an architectural gem. It showcases an impressive array of contemporary African art through dynamic exhibits and installations by both emerging and established artists. The vibrant atmosphere of Cape Town as an art hub enhances the experience, with its thriving galleries and rich cultural scene surrounding you.
My visit to Zeitz MOCAA was absolutely amazing. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the architecture it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The space is bold, inspiring, and beautifully designed. The exhibitions were powerful and thought-provoking, celebrating contemporary African artists in a way that feels both modern and deeply rooted in culture. I loved how each floor offered a new perspective, and the staff were kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming. The rooftop views of Cape Town and Table Mountain are breathtaking, and the atmosphere of the entire museum is peaceful, reflective, and energizing at the same time. I left feeling inspired and proud of what African art represents today. Truly a must-see if you’re in Cape Town. I went on a weekday, took an Uber, and the museum was relatively quiet. I bought my ticket at the entrance with no issues. Totally worth the visit.

Our small group, enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the galleries. The organization was impeccable, with curated musicians & dance shows. It was a a fantastic Heritage day, where by free entry was granted for all South Africans. There was also an affordable food market just outside. The Art was full of tales & offered a cultural understanding. The lighting in he different galleries was very interesting and your eyes eventually adapt. The crowd was not to thick, it flowed well and was not to overwhelming, however I believe the air control was not working correctly, as it became hot & stuffy in areas, all in all a well worth day spent celebrating the rich cultural diversity and unity together enriched in creative art & history. Thanks Zietz it was a delightful experience

-A rare experience(It's quite deep in history but at the same time, some may get freaked out by the set up/certain art pieces/artifacts.) -The place is still under renovation so it's understandable that it's not complete. -The view from the top is stunning and the design of this museum is modern and sleek. Well done ! -I highly recommend students who are learning about South African history to visit here and spend a day collecting valuable info.

The Zeitz Museum is an amazing experience on two levels. To begin, the museum’s six different exhibits are fascinating and they opened my mind to perspectives and aspects of art/history that I had never contemplated before. For example, the special exhibit focused on the generational trauma caused from French serving Senegalese fighting in Vietnam during the 1940-50s and the consequences that had upon families and cultures, a truly fascinating moment that I had never even considered in that context. Eye opening. The second aspect of the museum that boggles the mind and fills the soul with wonder is the museum itself. The Zeitz is truly an awe inspiring structure; the coolest museum I visited during my time in Cape Town.

Very expensive for us local SAFFERS! We loved it, really beautifully laid out and yet intimate. Pity about the posh restaurant at the top great view and should be booked out ... shocking service from the kitchen, the waitress was lovely and we understood it was not her fault... Can't say we would go back for anything other than the view... Something the kitchen can't control!
Rev W — Google review
Spacious viewing halls, clean simple signage, a leveled variety of exhibitions. The entrance foyer is something engineers and architecture students will truly love! The conversion of a grain silo into a museum is quite a phenomenal achievement. The actual quality of art on display varies though. Some installations are modern and superb and others you can see are just fillers so you are not walking through empty halls. Best to visit during the day, tire yourself, build and appetite and go for lunch at the neighboring restaurants.

I mean The building is really impressive and looks really cool from the inside, and the art was cool too, sure. But that art museum cost over two times More compared to other art museum in Cape-Town. I was expecting more for that price. Honestly I would recommend going to the national art gallery instead (it's in Gardens), about same amount of art to see and only costs about 80rand

If you enjoy a bit of history and it'scombination to art, then this place is for you. I'll also recommend this place as a couples date out. It's not for children. There are numerous priceless artwork pieces that are breathtaking. You must go see it with your own eyes to experience it and live the moment. Also its free on Wednesdays for ALL AFRICAN countries. Just bring your proof of ID or passport.

Signal Hill, a flat-topped hill in Cape Town, offers stunning views of Table Mountain and the ocean. It was historically used to communicate weather warnings to ships and is home to the historic Noon Gun. The hill is also known for its hiking trail with Muslim tombs along the way and unique Peninsula Shale Renosterveld vegetation. Visitors can enjoy parking, dining, and sunset mats but should arrive early due to crowds.
Well worth the early wake up! It was a beautiful sunrise. Absolutely beautiful spot. Safe. Friendly locals exercising are out and about. You won’t regret it!

We drove up to Signal Hill just before sunset and it was well worth it. The view is absolutely stunning! You can see Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, the city, and the Atlantic all in one go. Easy to get to, and lots of locals and tourists hang out there. Just be mindful of traffic going up and down around peak time, arrive early for a good spot.

Really nice spot to come to and watch the sunset. Whether it’s on a clear day or not. It’s still worth it. Be sure to bring warm clothing as it gets quite cold once the sun is down. The sun also sets very fast! Highly recommended and will definitely come back. Each sunset is always different so it will be worth it everytime!

The Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum, located in the vibrant suburb of Bo-Kaap in Cape Town, offers a fascinating insight into the lifestyle and cultural contributions of 19th-century Muslims. The museum is housed in a restored 1760s homestead and showcases the history of the Cape Malay community, whose ancestors were brought to the Cape Colony as slaves.
Nice place to take a stroll and learn a little more. Personal suggestion - stop over to enjoy(over indulge 🙂) the hot chocolate tasting at Revved Up Cafe and then walk it off in Bo-Kaap. (Its literally a short distance away)

There is really not much to see and do here except take pictures at the colourful houses. Museum is boring. The car guards harass you from the moment you park your car for money. Some even get aggressive with you. One car guard really ruined our experience with his attitude. We stressed he would harm our car the entire time. I don't recommend at all. Something must be done there

A colourful and vibrant region of Cape Town worth exploring. Shops, grocery stores, butchery, and colourful homes adorn the area!
Kevyn M — Google review
The Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum is one of Cape Town’s most colorful and culturally rich attractions, located in the historic Bo-Kaap district. Housed in a charming 18th-century building, the museum offers visitors a window into the life, traditions, and history of the Cape Malay community. Walking through its rooms, you can see period furniture, household items, and artifacts that tell the story of how this vibrant neighborhood developed over the centuries. Bo-Kaap itself is famous for its brightly painted houses, cobbled streets, and the strong sense of community that continues to thrive today. The museum helps connect these visual impressions with deeper cultural roots, highlighting the role of Islam, family traditions, and food in everyday life. It also sheds light on the struggles and resilience of the residents during South Africa’s complex history. A visit here is not just about looking at exhibits, but about experiencing the spirit of Bo-Kaap. The staff are welcoming, and the museum is small enough to explore in under an hour, yet meaningful enough to leave a lasting impression. Whether you are interested in history, architecture, or simply want to understand Cape Town’s multicultural heritage, the Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum is an absolute must-see.

While Bo Kaap holds a significant place in the history, the museum is Worthy a visit if you want to learn more. As the first mall I visited on my vacation in South Africa, Canal Walk set an incredibly high standard. The selection of shops is fantastic, with well-stocked stores for everything from clothing to home essentials. I was impressed by the fair pricing, finding great value across the board. The beautiful food court offers a wonderful variety of tastes in a lively atmosphere. For a complete and enjoyable shopping experience, I highly recommend it.

I shopped for the entire family, and even found a child size 4 rugby boot on sale at Tekkie Town, and then relaxed at Mugg & Bean for hours having one of their favorite soups.

I visit this place to see “Landscape of the Soul” by Anton Smith. This juxta position of 500 masks, protruding from a 33 metre long wall, three metres high, is an impressive sight to behold in its entirety. But as you step closer, you see that every face is fragmented. Peaceful route for walk. River is surrounded by beautiful parks and flowers.

If you visit Cape Town, take note of how well this city is managed. The rest of our beautiful country is falling apart while this city is flourishing. Absolutely lovely.

Visited Canal Walk Shopping Centre recently and it's a mixed bag. On the one hand, it's a massive mall with a great variety of shops, making it a shopper's paradise. The facilities are well-maintained and it's nice to spend a day browsing and shopping. However, be warned: it gets CRAZY busy, especially on month-ends, Friday nights, and Saturday nights. The crowds can be overwhelming, and the food queues are RIDICULOUS! We waited over 30 minutes at McDonald's, and the food was just okay. And don't even get me started on KFC - the food was chewy and not worth the wait. If you're looking for a chill shopping experience, avoid Canal Walk on busy days. But if you're prepared for the chaos, it's definitely worth a visit. Just plan ahead, arrive early, and be prepared for the crowds! Rating: 3/5 stars

A top tourist spot with a rich cultural history of the Cape Malay. Houses are painted in a variety of colours making it a photographers haven. With it being a predominantly muslim area, there are several historical mosques in the area. Several eateries as well with some specialising in Malay dishes. As it is a touristy area, there are security patrolling the area with some guards stationed in of the roads. Several curio shops and museums are also scattered around. An unforgettable experience! The Table Mountain cable car in Cape Town was absolutely fantastic. We arrived around 10:30 AM and waited about 25 minutes to get on — definitely worth the short wait. The cable car slowly rotates as you ascend, giving everyone a 360-degree view of the breathtaking scenery. Once at the top, the views are simply incredible — you can see the entire city of Cape Town, the Atlantic Ocean, and the surrounding mountains, including the iconic Lion’s Head. The panoramic views are a photographer’s dream! We spent about 2–3 hours exploring the top, taking in the amazing scenery and spotting some of the local wildlife. We saw rock hyraxes (also known as dassies), colorful lizards, and a variety of birds. Such a unique and memorable experience — a must-do if you’re in Cape Town!

Spectacular views of Cape Town at the top of Table Mountain. Really expensive entry though and despite this it is still so popular. Be prepared to wait a while depending on the time of day and the weather conditions. We waited around 30mins mid morning on a Sunday. We had about 15 mins at the top with visibility before the weather started closing in on us. On our descent we could see nothing. There are lots of adorable Cape Hyrax / Dassies to see at the top and several walking trails. There are two large cable cars that hold about 50 people squashed in like sardines. The cart rotates slowly for a full 360 by the time (5min) it reaches the destination. I got blocked in with people on all sides in both directions with not an inch of spare space. Bear this in mind if you get claustrophobic. Exit via the giftshop!
Timeshare C — Google review
Arrived early to join the queue for the cable cars. The wait time was short if you get there early before the queue becomes too long. The cable ride takes less than ten minutes. The cable car spins around so you can get see all the views around. It's a safe ride so even if you're afraid of heights, it's not scary. The views on top are spectacular. The mountain and the glimpses of the beaches are amazing. There's a short and long path all along the trail. There's a coffee shop and souvenir shop also so you can take some time there and just enjoy the space and views. Guests are cautioned to stay clear of edges because there sometimes very strong winds blowing on the mountain. I think the best time to visit is early morning or in the evening to see the sunset.
Rose M — Google review
Awesome operation from start to finish. The team at the base gave us real-time tips on wind, visibility, and which paths up top were easiest for our group. They nudged us toward a less-crowded lookout and it paid off—great photos, no elbowing. On the way down, a staffer marked a couple of nearby stops for sunset snacks. Efficient, cheerful, and clearly focused on making your experience smooth.
David N — Google review
We did not go well prepared. We weren't warm dressed ENOUGH and were freezing 🥶 up on the mountain. Otherwise lovely and enjoyed it again.
Lucia E — Google review
I went up late afternoon and it felt like the city exhaled as the car lifted off. In minutes the streets, horns, and bustle were just patterns under glass and we were in cool air with that big blue edge of ocean beyond it all. On top I followed the paths like a kid in a new garden, stopping at every gap in the rocks for another angle of Lion’s Head and the Twelve Apostles. I took the required photos and then put my phone away because the light kept changing every few seconds. What I loved most was how quiet it gets if you wander thirty steps off the main lookout. You can hear your shoes scuff the stone and the wind run its fingers over the fynbos. I found a flat rock, sat, and watched the city turn gold. People around me did the same nod strangers do when something is simply good. The ride down was all soft chatter and a few happy yawns.

15th October 2025. Local is Lekker birthday special. Bought 2 tickets online on about 2nd October 2025. I live in Cape Town. My friend flew in from Durban. We queued for about over 2 and a half hours. The restaurant on the mountain was closed for a private function. Was unaware of this. Staff said it was posted on the app and Facebook. While in the queue, I tried to find it. I couldn't. I asked the staff. They couldn't find it either! Apparently there is a priority queue which one can pay extra for to fast track the queue. Wasn't aware of this either. In the cable car, we were packed in like sardines. Impossible to get any decent photos. Coming back down Table Mountain was a repeat of earlier ie. queued for over 2 hours (cold, windy, no place to sit) And yes, we were warmly dressed with hooded jackets and beanies. Again we were packed in like sardines. We couldn't get any photos even if we wanted to... I just wanted to get out and leave. We queued for longer than we were on the mountain with nothing to eat or drink. However, queueing, we got to chatting with a foreigner who was here on holiday and had always wanted to go up Table Mountain. While the view, etc. was amazing, he said he was NEVER coming back to South Africa. This entire experience was totally unfair and I feel annoyed, embarrassed and taken advantage of. What, then, was the advantage to me, a paying customer, to make use of booking in advance?

After visiting the local distillery thought I’d check out the local markets. Very interesting with some local craft work and unusual souvenirs. Also local and multi cultural food on offer as well as clothing, fruit, cured meats etc. I really loved some of the metal sculptures outside. Good to chat to several of the local stall owners. Great vibe! Most vendors prefer cash but cards and tap pay are available. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas and tables and the outdoor area has a great view of the mountains. Really worth a visit if you are in the area. Had some great oysters and calamari at Seabar❣️

The Hout Bay Harbour Market is charming. It has everything you need for a wonderful breakfast or lunch. A wide selection of sweets and pastries. Craft beer, cured meats, and fresh pizza are also available. You can also buy clothing, leather accessories, and jewelry. The atmosphere is very cozy, safe, and relaxing.

This market has some local craft work and unusual souvenirs. Also local and multi cultural food on offer as well as clothing, fruit, cured meats etc. I really loved some of the metal sculptures outside. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas and tables, and the outdoor area has a great view of the mountains. That said, I took the bus and the trip took about an hour and a half. In all honesty, compared to how small the market actually is, I didn’t feel it was worth the long journey. If you have a car, it might be more convenient and worthwhile. But if you're relying on public transport, be prepared for a lengthy trip for what is ultimately a brief visit.

Stumbled upon this market by accident after a roadtrip and we were all positively surprised by the atmosphere. There was a live band, lots of different food options and souvenirs. Definitely recommend

Green Point Park is a versatile urban park in Cape Town, offering a range of activities for visitors. It features a stadium, biodiversity garden, and an exercise circuit amidst ample green space. The carefully landscaped park showcases indigenous flora and boasts the only Biodiversity Showcase Garden of its kind with 25,000 indigenous plants.
Green Point Park is one of Cape Town’s hidden gems. It’s beautifully maintained and offers something for everyone. I especially love the peaceful waterways and the view overlooking the golf course—it’s a calming escape right in the heart of the city. The birdlife is fantastic, and there’s plenty to see and explore: from educational boards and botanical displays to outdoor gym equipment and large play areas for children. It’s safe, clean, and perfect for a morning walk, weekend picnic, or just getting some fresh air. Cape Town’s very own little Central Park—seriously underrated and always worth a visit.

Green Point park is a lovely family park with a rich biodiversity. Beautiful to see the array of plants and trees and learn as you take a walk through specific areas. The humorous plaques are cute found amongst the shrubs. The playground areas are designed for small and bigger kids. I do find it disturbing that teenagers are playing among the little one infringing on the space designed for them. I however do not feel safe with the hovering unofficial car guards.

Green Point Park is a beautiful, family-friendly space with something for everyone. It features indigenous gardens, plenty of birds, fun jungle gyms for kids, and a safe, fenced area for dogs. The on-site café has nice options, and they serve Popco lollies, which are vegan and vegetarian. A peaceful, well-kept escape in the heart of the city!

Beautiful, well maintained urban park in the Green Point area of Cape Town. Several play areas for children. Lots of walking trails with interpretive signage about the plantings in the biodiversity and wetland areas. The presence of a cafe in the park is a highlight! July 2, 2025 C & J

Green Point Park is a beautiful and relaxing place to take a walk. The pathways are well-kept, the gardens are full of colour, and there are plenty of peaceful spots to sit and unwind. I especially love taking my dog for a walk there, as it’s safe, spacious and calming. It’s perfect for a gentle stroll, a picnic, or simply enjoying the fresh air. A real gem in the city!

It is a nice place for a walk, but I found it very small and honestly a bit underwhelming. There aren’t any special plants or flowers that make it stand out, so overall, I think it’s less than average compared to other parks. It’s pleasant for a short stroll, but nothing more.

Beautiful park to relax in front of the mountains and a great view on the stadium.

A beautiful big park not far away from Waterfront. There’s a lot of space for both picnics and resting at the benches around. They also have gym facilities and playgrounds. It also includes a cafe. I visited both on a weekday, when there was only a few persons in the park, and on a weekend. The Saturday I visited it was packed! A nice park to walk around in and enjoy some car free environment.

The South African Jewish Museum, located next to the country's oldest synagogue in Cape Town, offers a polished venue showcasing artifacts and exhibits that document Judaism and Jewish life in South Africa. Opened in 2000 by Helen Suzman and Nelson Mandela, the museum covers the rich Jewish heritage through interactive displays, audio-visual presentations, and historical relics. The site features two buildings: one dedicated to the Holocaust and another focusing on general Jewish history.
Much bigger and even more beautiful than expected. Has some very interesting history of Jews in South Africa not just in Cape Town and even a replica of a Lithuanian Shetl. Has an old ship and Torah and lots of wonderful judaica and great stories. Wonderful gift shop features art made by residents of Astra, a social support home a few blocks down.
Rachel K — Google review
Today I spent my birthday at the Cape Town Jewish Museum. I hadn’t visited the museum in four years and decided to take the opportunity to return. Since it was a weekday morning, it felt as though I had the entire place to myself. After purchasing my ticket, I was fortunate to be joined by a volunteer tour guide—an elderly gentleman with a deep passion for the museum’s history—who greatly enriched my experience as we moved through the exhibits. After exploring the museum and briefly visiting the Garden Shul, I made my way to the Holocaust & Genocide Centre. I usually attend this space on Holocaust Remembrance Day, but due to work commitments earlier this year, I was unable to. Visiting today felt like a meaningful way to honour that missed occasion. At the library, I finished reading a book titled The Jews of District Six. (Just a quick note—if it weren’t for this book, I honestly would’ve had no idea that there was a significant Jewish presence in District Six, or how deeply integrated the community was into the fabric of Cape Town.) I then treated myself to a lovely tote bag as a small birthday gift and enjoyed lunch at the café. Just before leaving the centre, I noticed that the woman working at the museum store was wearing a yellow ribbon pin. I asked if they were available for sale, and to my delight, they were. This sparked a warm and engaging conversation between us. Visiting the centre today renewed my desire to learn more about Jewish history and culture, and I’m now even considering enrolling in a class or course to further that exploration
Lyle C — Google review
I found the museum very interesting and well organised. The exhibits provided a fascinating insight into the lives of Jewish immigrants in Cape Town. It is a poignant reminder of the important role they played in building our nation and the freedoms we enjoy today. The coffee shop also served excellent coffee. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to visit the Holocaust Centre.

Excellent, well organized, and laid out. Provides quick overview of Jewish celebration, then a more detailed presentation on how Jews arrived and the history of the community development. A good mix of audio visual, written, and graphic materials. Very informative. I suggest you plan 2 hours at a minimum

I love learning about other faiths and cultures. This was such an interesting experience. It was the first time I saw the Torah in person. They have some lovely interactive spaces where you can dress up for photos in a time gone by. There are audio pods where the stories of exhibits are told. I would recommend a guided tour if you are not familiar with the faith. A must see if you find yourself in town.

Scarborough Beach, a hidden gem in the Western Cape, is a 45-minute drive from Cape Town near the Cape Point Nature Reserve. It's perfect for intermediate and experienced surfers and kite surfers, with favorable conditions in summer and spring. The beach offers stunning sunsets, tide pools teeming with marine life, and unspoiled landscapes ideal for long walks. While it can get busy during peak season, free parking is available.
Scarborough Beach is breathtaking! Not only does the wind take you breath away🤭😂, but so does the white sandy beach and aqua colour water. It's just so beautiful! If you are a wind surfer, this stretch of beach will be perfect for you...so too for a wedding ceremony, depending if the wind will take a break. Either way, make your way down there. You will enjoy it. Just be mindful when driving. The baboons in the area does cross the road randomly as a family "troop." I happened to come across a baboon yesterday that was seemingly knocked over in the road, and the little ones were frantic, as were the older ones. Practice caution when driving from Simons Town side on your way to Scarborough or from Ocean View side. They are precious, just like the ocean. Enjoy the waves and the scenery.

Beautiful beach with lots to do, from taking the kids to fish in small ponds, to fishing out from the rocks. Perfect combination of sandy beach with Rocky pools. You can take your dogs for a run or just chill under an umbrella. I really enjoyed my visit here.

Nice and clean beach, not crowded. Easy to parking. Dogs are welcome :-) Very good for the kids. There is not bar, toilets and restaurants nearby, so be prepared and bring your stuffs.
Edy B — Google review
Such a lovely, secluded, white sandy beach! Definitely not the biggest beach to be seen but it is great for a sit down or short stroll. Those new to the realm of surfing like to come here as there are not many disturbances to be had as it is a quieter beach. Dog friendly as well which is a bonus for a lot of people! Be warned that due to the kelp that washes up and the smaller surface area, the beach can tend to have a slight odour but more so towards the end of the beach on the left by the rocks; if you stay clear of that side you shouldn't be too bothered by this. There are also beautiful shells to be found if this is your kind of thing - just watch out for sand fleas/lice around the kelp and rocks where you often find shells.

Beautiful reserve in the middle of an urban area in the northern suburbs so easily accessible and opens at 7.30am. Worth doing a few of the routes on the same day to get a 10km hike in with magnificent views of all the surrounding mountains, including Table Mountain and distant city and sea views. An extra highlight is being close to the flight path for Cape Town International, so see the planes come into land from that height was cool.

Company’s Gardens is a beloved spot for both children and adults. Kids can enjoy running around the open spaces and feeding the friendly squirrels, while adults appreciate the serene atmosphere for picnics, leisurely walks, and bird watching. The garden also hosts cultural festivals and art exhibitions. Visitors can explore historical gems hidden within the well-maintained garden, making it a peaceful and tranquil destination in Cape Town.
The Company's Garden is more than a pretty garden in the city centre of Cape Town, it is a place of historical reflection of about 400 years of South African history. The park is well-maintained and there many places to sit and relax in the shade as well as plenty of security. You will see local birds, fish and squirrels or you can enjoy a meal at the restaurant located in the Gardens. The South African Parliament is located adjacent to the Gardens as well as the National Art Gallery, Iziko Museum and Planetarium - all must-venues. Beyond that, there is a wonderful rose garden which is a sight to behold when it's in bloom and you will find that people are generally relaxed and chilled in the Gardens. Public bathrooms are available and they are reasonable. The pigeons are characters.

What a lovely garden- with so much history safely preserved for generations to come. I love that the original design and integrity of the space has been preserved and is now a place for all to come and enjoy together. A very good park for Cape Town. I would even say that the best definition is - a place to relax from the city bustle. Lots of squirrels. We walked there for only half an hour, and met, probably, eight of them

If you’re staying down town Cape Town I recommend a stroll through the garden. It’s not something I would drive specifically to see, but if you’re near the art or history museum why not take some time. The garden is pretty large for a city garden. Lots of different paths and types of plants. There were plenty of benches to sit for while and a lot of them were in the shade which was nice on this hot day. There was some construction going on in the garden which was a bit disruptive, but I know it has to be done sometimes. Also, there are a lot of homeless people which always makes me sad. They do not pan handle and were nice so do not worry about being bothered while visiting. Nice place to go while visiting the great city of Cape Town!

Most cruises depart from V&A Waterfront, offering 1-2 hours of unforgettable sights and experiences. Enjoy cool music, champagne, and an overall fantastic atmosphere while taking in the mesmerizing sunset. It's an experience not to be missed for anyone visiting Cape Town.
Breathtaking views at sunset with a glass of champagne - a brilliant combination. A unique opportunity to enhance your photo album. Personally, I had no problem getting on board and I move around on a walker.

We were a local group celebrating my birthday and the experience was just perfect! From the booking admin staff to the staff on board - our captain, the bar lady and waiter added to the ‘gees’ and made the trip a pleasure. We were told we could bring some small snacks with us, which was good as there weren’t any available on board. The Lomond MCC that comes with the package is better than other offerings in my view. They may have just needed more stock. We got so lucky with the weather! The music was great fun and the 3 other unsuspecting guests were wonderfully tolerant of our happy, celebratory vibes 🙏 . Can’t recommend enough.

Very disappointing! I booked a sunset cruise online and received a confirmation. Then I received an email to change the date by one day and agreed and asked for a confirmation. Didn’t receive an answer via email so I opted for the “quicker WhatsApp option” and didn’t receive an answer even after trying twice and after I could see Carla had been online. My messages were ignored. I tried calling and couldn’t get through and didn’t receive a call back. Extremely frustrating since the date suggested by Carla is tomorrow and I still haven’t received an answer! It’s too late to find another provider since all other options are now fully booked! Had I received an answer from the beginning, I could’ve made other arrangements! A complete waste of time!

Bad sparkling wine (the two glasses included). Bad gin & Tonic. Drink bottled beer. Staff spilled wine on me. Later he spilled beer on my friend. Good music. Good views. So I got good photos. If you have nothing to do and the wind is blowing go for it. Otherwise don't. Overpriced. Should be 30% less.

Watch the weather and no matter what take something warm with you. The alcohol is limited, meaning selection. The champagne was not of the best and the plastic glass had cracks in it, not good for hygiene at all. Nestled within the historic Groote Schuur Hospital, the Heart of Cape Town Museum is a captivating tribute to one of medicine's most groundbreaking achievements—the world's first heart transplant. On December 3, 1967, Professor Christiaan Barnard and his dedicated team made history here, and this museum beautifully commemorates that momentous occasion.
We did this as an add on and wow were we so happy we did! The young woman who was our guide was such a delight - she made the tour not just highly informative and fascinating but injected a huge dose of humour! Well laid out, detailed and comprehensive overview of Dr Barnard, the donor and the surgery itself. A must do in Capetown. Dear guide - come to Australia - we will find you an Aussie hubby!!

Had a great tour with a amazing host. It is a part of the SA history that is well worth your time if you are interested in how things came to be and what it took to make a successful transplant. Although it is a remake of the actual event it can be a bit graphical to sensitive viewers. I enjoyed the effort and details a lot.

This was an amazing experience – and I’m so glad we did it! It was originally just a bolt-on for our trip, but in hindsight I’d say it’s worth doing above many other Cape Town attractions (it’s certainly waaay better than the Robben Island Museum experience, which somehow ranks higher on Tripadvisor – but that’s another matter!). What made it truly special were the tour guides, Cindy and Lauren. They are genuinely passionate about the story, and the way they tell it is so engaging and inspiring that we all left completely fascinated by Chris Barnard and his legacy. Thank you, Cindy and Lauren – it was a delight to meet you, and we’ll remember this one forever!
