El Arcotete is a nature park located just 4km outside of town, offering a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking trails, cliff rappelling, caves to explore, campsites and zip lines. The area features La Casa de Mazariegos and the City Hall constructed in stone. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility interrupted only by the sound of a stream flowing through El Arcotete's naturally formed arch.
Had s beautiful time at the Grutas el Arcotete, I didn’t go on a tour I took a colectivo is only $15 pesos just have to ask which one goes there I like to go on my own because I take as long as I need and nog rushed like sometimes by tour guide.
Lamberto V — Google review
The caves are quite cool but overall an underwhelming experience if you are used to nature. Should you have some time to kill, it is worth a visit but don’t break your back trying to get here. The individuals working there are not friendly, greeted us with their hand out, and tried to keep my partner’s change. Entrance fees are 10 for the park and 15 for the caves. There is a 5 peso charge for bathrooms. The zip lining did not look very exciting. I saw no horses. The water is very polluted. There were a handful of rainbow salamander creatures which were quite beautiful. They did have snacks and drinks for sale as well as a restaurant on site. On departure, they wouldn’t let us take a marked taxi and wanted us to get into one of their own unmarked vehicles. I didn’t get the best vibes overall. We ended up taking a collectivo back, which you catch just up the road.
Heather S — Google review
It’s pretty cool, but not really a destination. The cave is kind of interesting so if you just wanna get outside of town and do a little nature walk, I’d say it’s OK. One tip would be to take the collective vote bus as a taxi this sort of a rip off it basically will drop you off right in front of the entrance and save you a bunch of money
Danny G — Google review
So magical, I can't believe that I almost didn't come here! Definitely take the time to also explore the fantastical gruta and to appreciate the forest canopy from above at the mirador! Just 15 pesos straight from the downtown area to the entrance of the park every 8 minutes until 6 in the evening. When I was there it was 10 to visit the arc and 15 to go into the gruta. Well worth it!
Candace C — Google review
magic place, nice walks, fresh air, local people take so nice care🙏
Romana E — Google review
The level of enjoyment you get from this place will depend on your expectations. If you are expecting a well organized, entertaining activities and lots to do, you might be disappointed. It doesn't have a lot of information, it is run by local indigenous people in a very laid back, simple way, and although there are different things to do, it is not overly entertaining in itself. The entry is $10 pesos p/person. There are grounds you can walk or bike through. Fun place to take photos. The natural arc rock is free. The Zipline is $150 per person, and it includes two ziplines. Was safe enough. To enter the grotto is $15 pesos per person. This is kind of different and fun. But crowd control is not practiced: it can get a bit cramped in some of the small places. Also hard access for overweight or really tall people. There were also option of boat rides, rappelling, camping and tightrope. But we didn't participate in those. My teenage children moatly enjoyed because of the novelty of the grotto, riding their bikes and the ziplines, and they had their drone and camera to play around taking cool photos. It would've been nice to take a picnic, or to rent a palapa and have a BBQ on the grill, but we didn't plan accordingly. Overall, it is a lovely spot for a day out in nature. It was so clean and fresh, and plenty of families were out and about enjoying the sunshine. It has a restaurant and a comedor selling snacks, but we didn't try those out either. I gave it 5 start because it is really is a nice place to visit, I loved the grotto, and the excuse to hang out with my family. But I also understand that it is not a highly modernized and efficient tourist attraction.
Vanessa A — Google review
Beautiful and unique spot. There's an entry fee of 10 pesos per person for the park and then a further 15 pesos if you want to go into the caves. Definitely worth the extra 15, atleast once. Stunning and strikes a nice balance in eco tourism. Well looked after, but still allowing us to go in and enjoy the place.

Amazing natural place that is so close from San Christobal, just take a local bus! The caves are incredible and so much better than ever expected! Also just perfect for a lovely walk in nature or a picknick

Tapas bar

La Viña de Bacco is a charming wine bar and tapas restaurant located in the heart of San Cristobal. The cozy atmosphere, with dining on old wine barrels, creates a unique experience for visitors. Guests can enjoy a wide selection of Mexican, Chilean, Argentinian, Italian, and Spanish wines at affordable prices. Live music adds to the vibrant ambiance as locals and tourists gather around small outdoor tables to sip on beer and wine.
Such a lively and fun spot for a group! We were recommended this tapas bar at our hostel. The opportunity to try a wide variety of wines at such a stellar price point went down a treat! The tapa with the broccolini on a slice of baguette was definitely the crowd favourite
Kriti G — Google review
I was here on a Monday evening. the atmosphere was great. there was a street artist playing song in front of the establishment. the place was busy and is a good place to people watch. you get free tapas with each drink. wine starts at 30 pesos. I tried a Mexican vine and it was decent. the service was prompt.
Ram V — Google review
Unique and colourful bar! With quick service and great staff! Very lively in the later evening. Everyone that is sat is given a few tiny eats like popcorn and papas on bread. The alcohol is all reasonably priced so cheers! Only real negative thing to say is the guac tasted frozen/chemically was really hard to eat.
Spencer F — Google review
The place was awesome, great drinks and variety of dishes. Prices were decent and the service was great. Highly recommend
Idan S — Google review
Very cool vibe, good wine at reasonable prices, and complementary tapas! We may have gone every afternoon for happy hour during a recent trip! 🍷
Sherrie B — Google review
Nice place to relax and have a drink in the afternoon. Every drink comes with a free tapas. Right by the street musician and it's a pedestrian street, so no cars and no fumes. Great atmosphere.
Diane B — Google review
I rated the food a 4 but it is good. I rarely give 5 stars for food that is not gourmet level. Just so you know that there is nothing wrong with the food. However, the big standout for us were the great service. Diana was very nice and attentive and always there when we needed her. The vibe of this place was excellent! It has communal tables which is a great way to meet other people, which appeared to us to be mostly locals. We speak Spanish but one of our table mates spoke very clear English to us, so I think non-Spanish speakers would have no problem here. It is a cozy place, filled with interesting, cool people, great music (classic rock when we were there) and just an all around place to have a good time. It was a packed so I assume it is a very popular place. We will definitely return.

Kinoki is a cultural center that offers a unique experience in town. It features a balcony overlooking the Andador, providing an ideal spot to enjoy a Bohemia while flipping through The Zapatista Reader. Additionally, it hosts movie nights and serves a nice range of drinks and food. Visitors can also explore other cultural centers such as Casa Corazon de Jade and La Ensenanza for workshops, art exhibits, and delicious dining options.
Came here to see SanCris sunset so sat at the patio. Great view and drinks are reasonable. Extensive selection of tea. We checked out the vintage looking theatre, so cool, if there’s English subtitle I would go watch a documentary about Zapatista for sure.
Alice L — Google review
Kinoki is a truly stunning place to see sunset. They have a wonderful tea selection and great service. Their food is okay, not bad my any means but certainly not going to be the best food in Mexico. It's truly a wonderful cultural space to support local artisans and community while also enjoying the gorgeous landscape that San Cristóbal has to offer.
Yaneza A — Google review
I got just in time to find out a movie was about to being, we ordered Ham & Cheese Sandwich which was pretty good and drinks, started watching the movie with the complimentary popcorn and they brought the food to us. Definitely a good experience!
Alma S — Google review
Their patios and especially the rooftop patio are the real stars here. They have a good tea, coffee and drinks menu. This is a favorite spot of mine to enjoy drinks and the view. The food is okay. Good pizza seems difficult to replicate in San Cristóbal. Service is usually attentive, prices are fair. I would recommend the drinks and the view.
Cameron C — Google review
Super charming place to watch a sunset! Wished we had more time to go to a movie here too, maybe next time!
Katie B — Google review
We were here twice to watch the sunset on the terrace. The view is very nice and when it gets a little colder, you get ponchos. The prices are reasonable. The staff is helpful, but a little bit slow. In the same building there is also a cinema where you can watch independent movies.
Chris T — Google review
The food is ok, but the view and atmosphere is great!
Ofir A — Google review
Great location with a really cool vibe inside. The place is on the 2nd floor with lots of windows to enjoy the view and terrace for small tables of two. Not yet servicing alcohol, but good service and pizza.

When visiting San Cristobal de Las Casas, embarking on the Free Walking Tour is a must-do activity. The tips-based system allows visitors to pay what they feel the tour was worth at the end, making it an affordable way to explore the city. With tours running twice daily in English, participants can expect to learn about the town's history, culture, and captivating street art.
Amazing and informative walking tour led by Ana Guadalupe! Ana was so helpful and open and answered our (many) questions about life in Chiapas and Mexico. Highlights were visiting the municipal market, seeing the murals around the city and tasting local coffee and pox! Thank you Ana! Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting San Cristobal
Sarah C — Google review
This walking tour was hands down one of the best experiences I had in San Cristóbal de Las Casas. The guide was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also passionate, funny, and welcoming. He made the entire group feel instantly comfortable and engaged. We explored the rich history, vibrant culture, and hidden corners of the city that you’d never find on your own. What really stood out was the balance between historical insight and local storytelling. It wasn’t just a list of facts—it was like walking through the city with a friend who truly loves and understands it. From colourful markets to colonial landmarks, every stop had meaning and depth. Whether you’re in San Cristóbal for a few days or a few weeks, I highly recommend starting your visit with this tour. It gives you context, connection, and a deeper appreciation for this magical place. Thank you Carlos so much for an unforgettable experience!
Hudson P — Google review
Had an absolutely incredible experience, one of the best tours I have taken around the world. I felt like we did so much more than skim the surface of the historical and cultural landscape and I felt like I both learned so much and had an emotional connection to the stories of the tour as well. I have a much deeper understanding of San Cristobal now and therefore a better appreciation for this amazing city! Could not recommend more and a big thank you to Carlos.
Taylor J — Google review
We did a tour with Carlos (Canga) and it was the best idea we had while in San Cristobal. He not only ensured we saw every little nook and cranny hidden in the city but also made sure that we always had something to do, somewhere to go, something to see. His free tour isn’t like the rehearsed monotone guide tours I’ve seen elsewhere, he makes sure you experience the city’s food, engage with the people who have made San Cristobal their vibrant home and really observe and learn how deeply its rich history is rooted in the art, buildings, clothes, and people. I would definitely recommend this for anyone visiting from any country, you will not be disappointed.
Jonathan M — Google review
One of the best walking tours I’ve been on in all my travels. Canga was a fantastic guide who was very entertaining and knowledgeable. He made the tour super interesting and engaging covering an array of topics of the local people and wider issues in the area or communities that live in the area.
Hadley N — Google review
We did the tour with Carlos and had an incredible time! Carlos was super nice and enthusiastic, amd had a lot of fascinating knowledge to share with us. Highly recommended to do the tour with Carlos, the best guide in town!!!!!!
Joppe — Google review
After a month in Mexico and multiple ‘free walking tours’, this was by far my favorite. San Cristobal and Chiapas have such a rich history; pre-Hispanic, post-colonial, and present, all of which were captured by Anna in her tour. She also gave us a real feel for the atmosphere of the city, its political activism, and the complexity of its relationship with commercial powers such as Coca Cola.
Isa O — Google review
This free walking tour was one of the best we ever did. Our Tourguide Kanga knows a lot about the Mayan culture, the cities history and tiny little details everywhere you would never see without him. He showed us the local market, told us how to see the difference in quality of vendors and where to buy fairytale clothes. Additionally we got a free coffee tasting, saw beautiful places in the city and learned a lot. I would highlyyyy recommend this tour.

The Museo del Ámbar is a captivating educational museum located in the ex-convent of La Merced, showcasing a stunning collection of amber jewelry, art, and fossils. With over 350 classified pieces on display, visitors can explore the origins of amber, its formation, extraction process, commercialization, and historical as well as contemporary uses. The exhibition is complemented by informative texts, certificates, photographs, and videos providing a comprehensive understanding of this precious stone.
5 stars due to the best tour guide we could have asked for. This precious baby’s name is Ámbar. When we were on the first floor she showed up and then walked to the stairs to tell us to go up. And when she showed us the displays and waited for us to finish looking. Price for museum is about 30 pesos per person. Worth it due to the cat in my opinion. She lets you pet her.
Ana C — Google review
A little disappointed, I read it was supposed to be a 3 hour visit but in reality it has very few pieces. The place is beautiful and the few pieces and specimens there are also beautiful and special however I would have liked more information on the trees and production, shaping and polishing. There is a video playing in loop with this information but I would have liked more hands on information.
PAULINA T — Google review
This museum is a brand new museum, the building was a convent and an army station. About the ambar collection is significant and almost the information about how important ambar rock is important in Chiapas state. The visit is worth it, and entrance money is visible because the building is going through reconstruction.
María G — Google review
I can't spend hours and hours in museums, especially when I have my teenage children with me, so this one was perfect: only $50 pesos to enter, and it has one large room with plenty of amber on display (see photos in other reviews) and enough information to tell the story of amber, from it's composition and formation, to mining and uses. It's definitely not overwhelming, but informative enough to know a bit more about amber. The videos were not working when we went through. The shop was very extensive as well, and didn't seem expensive. They also provide a certificate of authenticity with each piece we purchased. I love that they are restoring ex convents and housing museums in them. This ex-convent is being restored by a civil association and depends on donations and the entry fees of the amber museum to continue their efforts. But it's also cool to see the one finished side and the unfinished side opposite.
Vanessa A — Google review
Beautiful collection of amber in a gorgeous convent currently under renovation, located in a charming hilly neighborhood.
Katie B — Google review
A Must-Visit in San Cristobal. This museum is in a historical building convent. It keeps the most Amazing unique Amber collection with pride and care. If you are curious to see (or purchase) this million-years old rock this is a great place. We have visit the workshop and discussed with the artists that worked on the pieces and its director and curator. It was a great and authentic experience. We highly recommend you visit this place.
Eddy F — Google review
The Museum is very nice For a reasonable ~50 MEX pesos you can have a look at tons of beautiful pieces of amber, including fossils and intricate sculptures, there is a english brochure that they give you ( if you ask) and that helps for non-spanish speakers.
Eli D — Google review
Nice, compact museum dedicated to Amber. Most of the focus is Chiapas. They also discuss the global history and use of amber. The building is historic which used to be a convent then later a prison. Fee is inexpensive, less than 2 USD. Allow at least an hour or 1.5 hours. Nice shop which includes certificate of authenticity. Staff is attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. Learn here before buying on the street or in the market. Spend a few minutes watching the videos at the end of the exhibit.

So so beautiful, so cosy, such delicious comfort food. The perfect place for our last dinner in San Cristobal. It was a rainy night but the rain made it feel even more hygge!!!!!

While the place is more upscale than others, it's well worth the hype. I enjoyed eating and working here. The food was delicious, servers were attentive and kind, and the patio outside was my favorite place to work on the computer and read. It's very busy though, so keep that in mind in case you need a quieter place. I would definitely return, it's a fave of mine 🙏🏼🥰

Great atmosphere, the decoration is beautiful. We fell in love with the interior decoration. The food was also really good, drinks super ok and overall a great place. I will definitely come back. Good taste, good service, good location and amazing decor.

I went here with high expectations. Sadly, the two barking dogs and the out of control screaming child ended that. The food was okay, but I’ve had better in San Cris.

The place is very nice it was a recommendation from a local I met eating at another place and it was a great choice the only thing to know they don’t serve lunch until after 1:30 I got there at 12 and had to come back but I ordered their especial which was a soup, chile en nogada that is one of my favorites and a guava drink all for $150 pesos, I was very satisfied and I recommend this place

Kukulpan, a charming spot in San Cristobal de Las Casas, is a favorite among vegans, vegetarians, and bread enthusiasts. The cafe offers a delightful outdoor dining experience on its European-style terrace. While the service may be leisurely, patrons are rewarded with delicious vegan and vegetarian meals made from fresh local ingredients. Additionally, Kukulpan is renowned for its coffee, decadent pastries, and workshops featuring local artists.

A wonderful little spot with lovely, welcoming people. The coffee was some of the best we tried in San Cris, and the pastries were delicious. It was one of the highlights of our time in the town sitting on the patio in the sun, people and dog watching ☺️
Geena H — Google review
Another recommendation from walking tour. We came here for breakfast and it was a decent experience. I love the package add on where you can get a cup of coffee, fruits or agua del Dia, bread and homemade jam for 50 pesos extra, that is a good deal. Sitting at the patio and people watching is a special thing here in this cafe (indoor seating is also available but nobody sits there unless the patio is full). When we arrive, another table has a musician guest who was picking his violin and later playing guitar so we got a special mini concert while enjoying our breakfast. I love the homemade jam they served, Mango and Ginger, not sweet but great flavor. The portion of the breakfast is smaller compare to Chavela we went yesterday but we are happy with the portion. Coffee (Americana) is average. Servers are kind, patient and always with a smile. They also accept credit card.

We just came for breakfast and had the red and green chilaquiles. Both were delicious and very filling! The outdoor seating is lovely too.

Mercado de Dulces y Artesanías Ámbar is a vibrant indoor shopping destination located near the Iglesia de San Francisco. Here, visitors can find an array of handcrafted items, including clothing and jewelry, as well as delicious baked treats and local sweets.
Excellent place to find crafts from Chiapas... I recommend the second floor you will find better prices and more Amber and crafts than the first floor the restroom are... Well let me put it like this you don't want to go in there ;)... There is no parking lot so you will need to find a spot in the street....

We stopped here as part of the Free Walking Tour. The guide introduced us to one of the amber artisans who gave an informative talk. Then she bought some local sweets for us to try.

This mercado is 2 floors and a great spot to buy your souvenirs They have so many handcrafted items and prices are a lot better than those stores in the center. There is always a room for negotiation

Very interesting place, lots of crafts, jewelry and delicious food. Very clean and well organized. Highly recommended.

The inside part is pretty lame, overpriced textiles that you should really make the effort to buy from the source - which is the markets in the indigenous villages surrounding the city. Zinacantan, Chamula, etc... But the outdoor restaurant area has a bunch of remarkably cheap and authentic local dishes - pick an establishment that looks busy, and enjoy.

The Mercado Municipal José Castillo Tielemans is a bustling indoor market in San Cristobal de las Casas, offering a vibrant atmosphere and a wide variety of goods. Unlike the touristy areas of the city, this market provides an authentic experience where locals come to shop for produce, meat, baked goods, and handicrafts. It's an excellent place to immerse yourself in the local culinary scene and discover the spices and ingredients used in traditional cuisine.
Colorful and vibrant. Mostly traditionally attired vendors speaking some form of Mayan dialect. Of course, you can buy your vegetables and fruits and meats.

Wonderful Market in San Cristobal de las Casas We visited this market every day during our stay to buy fresh fruit, meat, and vegetables. The variety was impressive, and the quality was excellent. It’s a vibrant and lively place that truly captures the local flavor. Perfect for anyone looking to enjoy fresh, authentic ingredients while exploring the area!

Nice big market, just goes on and on! Great fresh veges, herbs and spices. Lots of food stalls for tacos and other local dishes.
J D — Google review
One of my favorite markets in the world. Sadly, please eat here with caution. The nearby river is an open sewer & many reports of illness. Do shop for fruits, vegetables, handmade tortillas, candies, dried chiles, spices, coffee, chocolate. You can find beautiful candles, raw wool, little toys & sweaters. Be sure to walk around the periphery of the market to see all the day vendors. Early morning is best, but this market is bustling all day.

Specialty Museums
Nestled in the heart of San Cristobal, the Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya is a vibrant museum that celebrates the rich tapestry of traditional textiles from Mexico and Central America. This cultural gem boasts an impressive collection of over 500 hand-woven pieces, with a special focus on Chiapas huipiles and tunics. Visitors can explore not only the stunning displays but also delve deeper by opening drawers filled with additional striking examples of textile craftsmanship.
An absolutely amazing museum! I have almost no interest in textiles and I was blown away. The first floor is original examples of textiles (which are amazing) and all sorts of artifacts. The second floor is modern examples of clothing from different areas in Chiapas. Sprinkle in beautiful artwork throughout the museum. And the building is stunning. The market outside is beautiful too. All this is free too! Do Not Miss This Experience!

An Outstanding Textile Museum – A Must-Visit for History and Culture Enthusiasts! I recently had the pleasure of visiting this incredible textile museum, and I can honestly say it exceeded my expectations. Best of all, entry was completely free, making it accessible to everyone. The museum is packed with a diverse range of exhibits, showcasing the rich history of textiles from various cultures and eras. Each display was thoughtfully curated, offering fascinating insights into traditional craftsmanship, techniques, and the cultural significance of textiles around the world. The building itself is a stunning piece of architecture, adding to the overall experience. Its elegant design and historic charm create a perfect setting for the exhibits. Unlike some other museums like the jade and amber museums, which often feel more like shops selling souvenirs, this museum is dedicated solely to education and preservation. It offers a genuine, immersive experience that truly highlights the artistry and cultural importance of textiles. Whether you're a history buff, an art lover, or simply looking for an enriching day out, this museum is definitely worth a visit. It’s a wonderful place to learn, appreciate craftsmanship, and enjoy a peaceful stroll through history. I highly recommend it to anyone passing through the area!

If you want to learn about San Cristobal's history this is a good place to start. They have in exhibition ceramic sculptures of the first civilization in the state also they have artifacts from the Spanish Conquest, but the best and my favourite part is the Textile exhibition, it's not a big exhibition but it has a lot of different textiles from Chiapas and from Guatemala.

If you're a fan of vegetarian or vegan cuisine, Te Quiero Verde is a must-visit spot in San Cristobal de las Casas. This charming eatery boasts a cozy atmosphere and an inviting terrace, making it the perfect place to enjoy artisanal plant-based pastas, burgers, tacos, and desserts. The menu features simple yet thoughtfully crafted dishes made from high-quality ingredients that are sure to delight your taste buds.
I've been there 3 times during my time in San Chris. Everytime the food was amazing and the staff lovely. Even when it was quite full and stressful for the one waitress once, she still had a smile on her face! The portions are filling. In my opinion also cheaper compared to other vegan restaurants in the world. Thank you!

Visited three times during my short stay in San Cristobal for delicious and very affordable vegan food! The tofu was fantastic - reminded me of how I make it at home - and the portions were all very generous and filling.

Finally, I could enjoy vegan mole and a traditional Mexican breakfast without altering the entire dish. The all-vegan menu is diverse enough to give everyone something. They even have amazing fresh juices (I got the immunity juice). I chose to sit out back without knowing that their trash and extra kitchen items are behind a fence back there. This just meant that breakfast was accompanied by employees dragging trash by me, or running to get some supply for the kitchen. It was busier because of this. Still…it’s likely not like that later in the day, so don’t let that ambience issue stop you from enjoying this place. It’s a great stop off en route to the Amber Museum for morning breakfast.

Café Bar Revolución, located on Ave. 20 de Noviembre, is a popular spot in San Cristobal de las Casas. The place offers a unique experience with dishes and drinks named after famous revolutionaries and rebels. They have live music most nights at 9 pm and 11 pm, creating a lively atmosphere that transitions into steamy dance sessions post-midnight. The establishment is known for its chill vibe, surprisingly good food, and an ideal location.

Alexandre C — Google review
Really nice place, good vibe and live music. BUT they first made multiple mistakes on our bill, after pointing it out the waiter recalculated the new bill wrong with 200 pesos in their advance. And still tried to add 10% service fee after we had to wait 30 minutes for our drink and 1 hour for nachos. So check your receipt before paying.
Ireen K — Google review
The espresso was decent. The taco beef was just chewy and over-spiced and taste kind of like liver underneath. It's a good place for music inside in the evenings. Nice patio for people-watching. Overpriced compared to many better cafes in the area. It is a bar so there is a wide selection of alcohol..
Scott M — Google review
This is my go-to bar. Very friendly with people from across the globe. Most staff speak some English. They have different live music every night. Always 2 bands per evening. They have great food and friendly service. I highly recommend this bar. Also, it's directly on a walking street with tons of shops and other venders. Lot's of locals selling jewelry, plants, and breads, almost anything you can think of!
Tuesdey K — Google review
I regret that I cannot recommend this place. I visited twice during my month-long stay in SanCris. They have a somewhat international-inspired food & drink menu, but I’d stick to the music. The food was subpar, and while on my second visit, the flank steak I ordered was old with a slimy texture (needless to say, I didn’t eat it). The service tries but doesn’t deliver - even though they added a 10% mandatory service charge when I paid in cash (I tipped 20% because I’m a decent person - even though this place is not). And even if you pick a table inside, you’ll be constantly approached by people off the street who come into the dining room trying to sell you their wares. Stick to the mezcal and music, and you’ll be fine; anything outside those parameters, and you cannot say you were not warned.

As part of the free walking tour in Chiapas, there was a tasting of 4 free samples of Pox, guided by Sofia. She explained everything very nicely, so we really enjoyed it😊 The restaurant is good, has a nice garden to sit and they have vegetarian tacos 🌮 chocolate pox ice cream was nice and 150 Pesos for the whole menu is a good price 👍🏻😊

Came here twice. First time with walking tour, and came back again to try some pox based cocktail. Esteban is our server and he was super friendly, made recommendation for me to try the Pink pox tonic, made with corn based pox blanco, citrus and Jamaica infused pox. The drink is super smooth although it’s super strong as well. I didn’t feel it until the end of the last few sip and was a bit tipsy after lol. Highly recommend checking out this join when you visit SanCris.

Came with the free tour for pox tastings which was great. Afterwards we stayed to look around, they have a lot of art and other products made from local artists. We bought 2 beautiful small ceramic cups but honestly we couldn’t taken way more if we had place in our suitcase, everything was really cute. The girl who did the pox tasting and worked at the counter was super cute and kind!

Omg the cocktails here were DIVINE. The pink pox tonic (hibiscus dream 🌺) and xaman (chocolate heaven 🍫) are a must. They were really fairly priced too! Kriti G — Google review
Yes, go here. As far as I know it is one of the only places selling real Pox (posh) that has at least 70% corn alcohol. This is not a tourist trap. There is a wonderful young lady working there who is from the South but also lived in a bordertown near Arizona. She speaks impeccable English and is a knowledgeable trusted source. In fact everyone working there was so nice and really interested in seeing that you are taken care of and happy. They offer tastings (free) and even cooking classes (for a charge) given by the owner and I heard positive reviews. There is a fusion restaurant as part of the complex sadly we were not able to try. We actually came back on another evening for drinks and so glad we did. The same lady was there and she entertained us with information and recommendations. Unfortunately they close at  8pm but we absolutely had a memorable comfortable enjoyable short time there soaking  in the atmosphere and  the alcohol, drinks. The real reason we came back is they served Mead, a honey based drink similar to beer but more like a cider to give a brutal  description to such a delicate historical drink. What I learned was they actually make this here as well as other beers. The Mead was an insanely incredible drink. Very subtle but intensely well crafted and tasting almost like a fine champagne or a very mild cider for the upper class. If you appreciate different things, you will really enjoy this. It is amazingly refreshing, polished and enjoyable. If for nothing else, you must not miss this on your trip to Chiapas. Now my daughter really loved the hibiscus posh we tasted on our first trip here. So we had to come back for this. She chose to get it in a cocktail and the cocktail was absolutely out of this world. Not only was it an art form to see, it was an art form in composition containing multiple infusions as well as the white posh and the hibiscus posh. It's dangerously drinkable.  And I see this is well described in previous reviews and in the pictures but I will continue to add my positive recommendation for this drink. I don't want to sound like an advertisement and you can see I have reviews from all over the place and I don't advertise anything but just to let you know they have a full stocked selection of pox and beers. Trust me, I would have bought a lot but we were starting our vacation and there was no way I was schlepping around tons of alcohol with me in a suitcase... Anyway, full recommendation 100%. Unfortunately I can't say anything about the food but I wouldn't doubt it's amazing. All I can say is if you really want an amazing experience and wonderful hosts and to be able to taste and experience and learn about the local alcohol in a comfortable safe low/no pressure environment you really shouldn't miss this place.

Historically significant cathedral that has some great artwork depicting various saints, but otherwise very plain. Outside the church are numerous venders giving the location the feel of a festival during the weekends. Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán is a historical complex in San Cristobal, featuring a church, former monastery, and regional history museum. The church's pink stone facade showcases Baroque Solomonic style with intricate carvings of saints' figures, angels, and grooved columns. Visitors can explore the open-air crafts market surrounding the church and shop at Sna Jolobil for traditional weavings by local women artisans.
One of those "must" stops in San Cris. The outside is stunning and marvelous. The inside takes your breath away because it is all covered on gold. Next to it is the traditional hand crafts made from indigenous people of the region, so all of you see is worth the price and it's value in culture.

Beautiful church but hard to appreciate at the moment. Closed off for renovations and you can't go inside (just like the cathedral). You can't even appreciate what's left to see from the outside, since the surrounding areas normally belonging to the church are now fully "squatted" by the "artisanal market".
Jogchem G — Google review
This Church was restored and is one of the most beautiful on Chiapas. The monastery with its church was built in the 16th century, with the monastery secularized later. The church retains its original function. The building with two courtyards was restored between 1999 and 2002 to become a community and cultural center, with the Museo de la Laca, founded in 1952, moved inside to take up much of the upper floor. This museum contains about 450 pieces from various parts of Mexico and Asia, mostly made in the 20th century. The complex also contains halls with permanent and temporary exhibits along with an auditorium and various types of workshops. The former monastery complex was built along with the Santo Domingo church on a small hill overlooking the Grijalva River, in the second half of the 16th century, attributed to Pedro de Barrientos and Juan Alonso. The church portion is one of the best preserved from the 16th century in Chiapas. The former monastery is behind the large church with two main courtyards. It was secularized during the Reform War with the church retaining its original function. It underwent its most recent restoration between 1999 and 2002 in order to make it a community and cultural center for the city of Chiapa de Corzo, with the Museo de la Laca moving into it. It, along with other facilities and operations, is managed by the Consejo Estatal para la Cultura y la Artes of Chiapas (CONECULTA). The entire building is officially called the Casa Escuela de Tradiciones but it is most commonly called the Museo de la Laca, although this museum only takes up most of the upper floor.

Restaurant
Tierra y Cielo Restaurante offers a unique dining experience in San Cristobal de las Casas, featuring regional specialties like mole and seafood served in a mission-style dining room with wood-beam ceilings. Chef Marta Zepeda is dedicated to working with ancestral ingredients and implementing socially inclusive policies to benefit the local community. The menu highlights Chiapanecan cuisine made with high-quality products, promoting fair trade practices.
This restaurant is undoubtedly one of the finest dining spots in the city and arguably among the best in all of Mexico -a must if you want a culinary experience that takes you through truly local ingredients and dishes in a nice setting. It’s located in a typical, charming colonial house with a variety of seating areas, a sophisticated decor and dim lights in the evening for a refined atmosphere. I particularly liked the area with bookshelves lining an entire wall. The restaurant has both a seasonal menu (a la carte) and a tasting one that comes with different pairing options: aguas frescas, craft beer or wine. To enjoy the latter, you need to budget around 3 hours and 1,900 pesos. I tried the seasonal menu. The mole coleto with prawn was exquisite and I do recommend it. The mole, with its rich combination of cacao, almond, and chile, provided a complex yet harmonious flavour profile that paired wonderfully with the delicate saltiness of the prawns. It could also be prepared with chicken. For those unfamiliar with mole, the dish has a quite unique, intense taste, so I recommend approaching it with an open mind - it’s a bold choice and one that will likely surprise your palate. Coleto means from San Cristobal. My dessert was the classic crème brûlée with orange on top, and it was everything you want in a perfect one: creamy but not heavy with a thin caramelized crunch on top, with the orange bringing freshness and balance. The service is impeccable, and the staff were prompt and courteous. It all left me eager to go back!

Lovely experience, the wait staff was incredibly warm, took their time to explain the origin and significance of the ingredients, and made our visit very special. They happened to be out of our first choice desert that night so we went with the nieve de calabaza and it was INCREDIBLE - just goes to show you can't really go wrong with their menu, there is something delicious for everyone here. One of my colleagues is a vegetarian and she really enjoyed the meal as well. Highly recommend while you're in San Cristobal

Every single dishes/drinks are highly unique but all inspired by local history and ingredients. We had breakfast here and came back for lunch on the same day. We have been in many Michelin restaurants in Aisia and Europe. This one is as good as those world class ones! And they won many national awards already!!

My best culinary experience in Mexico. A fine dining proposition, but without pretention, fully local and original. I had the mole and it was divine, different from the usual rustic mole served in Puebla. Eventually I found a very well cooked chicken in Mexico. The desert was very good too. Impressive! This place should be on the list of any food amateur, and is a real chance to experience fine dining at an affordable price! (for westerners unfortunately).

This was my best meal in San Cristobal without a doubt. It was gourmet level food and used many of the local ingredients to accomplish this. From the beet and carrot chalupa, tortillas from 3 different grains, to the chicken mole with plantain and cheese to the chocolate tamal with fruit purée and flowers. It was excellent and the service was too. Although it was smaller portions I was not able to finish the chocolate tamal. It was really filling. I also had a Mexican wine. I could not believe the price was $25USD for total. This is a great value for the quality. I know that is expensive in comparison in this area but it is well worth the price.

Probably the best restaurant I have been to during my visit to Mexico. Great interpretation of the Mexican cuisine with modern touches that will make you feel a superb culinary experience. We ordered the seasonal menu, which is composed of: starters + two main dishes (to choose between 3 options) + dessert. Do not miss the 'Gordita de Chamorro', your would be avoiding the best dish on my opinion. Great service too. 5 stars to chef Marta Cepeda & team

Casa Na Bolom is a unique and remarkable destination in San Cristobal, housed within a 16th-century colonial mansion that once belonged to renowned explorers Frans Blom and Gertrude Duby Blom. The property, which also functions as a museum, restaurant, and hotel, is located in the peaceful Barrio del Cerrillo neighborhood.
We loved exploring this renovated hacienda of Danish Swedish explorers that did incredible work with the indigenous people of the region. This couple was so inspiring and you could literally feel the passion for their life's work in their desk and chair. A must visit museum when in the area!
Katie B — Google review
I visited the museum, not the hotel. Although the museum is quite small, I spent about 30 minutes there. The exhibitions are well-curated, with information available also in English, and the building itself is beautiful. It's a nice spot if you have some spare time, but not a must-see in my opinion. It's conveniently within walking distance, and you won't need much time to explore it. Restrooms are available. A side note: it would be helpful if they could separate the museum and hotel on Google Maps to make reviews for each more distinct.
Patrick — Google review
I went to visit the museum, and it is a truly amazing experience. The place itself is wonderful. Every room with information and pictures is delightful and, of course, to learn about all expeditions that Gertrude and Frans made to the Lacandon Maya Jungle is incredible.

Very interesting hotel with a deep history of indigenous people! It's a bit far from the city center, but it's worth staying there and supporting indigenous business! Price is very reasonable! Don't forget to check out their museum, back garden and chapel
Sanam B — Google review
Wow! You have to check out his museum and garden. The fact that they also have a small cafe and restaurant in the middle that is so quiet is just a bonus.

Lovely little museum! The story of the owners is truly inspiring. Recommend to anyone interested in the indigenous culture and history of Chiapas 🙏
Salomea E — Google review
One of my favorite little museums and gardens in San Cristobal. Wonderful place to meander and learn the history of this inspiring Swiss woman (and a bit on her Danish husband) and of many of the indigenous people they befriended and advocated on behalf of from the 1950s onwards. The gardens are a lovely place to sit in or to wander and be inspired. There is a small hotel and restaurant and a few other options here, all of which are on the grounds and in the original house where this couple and their adopted Mexican daughter lived and worked for decades.

Frontera Artisan Food and Coffee is a charming café located in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. Situated just a short walk from the main area, this cozy spot offers a mix of comfortable sofas and chairs, along with books and games for guests to enjoy. The café features a central courtyard where visitors can relax and explore other artisan ventures.
Words cannot describe the quality of the coffee, the food, the service and the beauty of this amazing spot. Grab a table outside, order some of the best coffee and breakfast, then just sit back and be happy that you are in such a tranquil place.
G P — Google review
A great spot for well-prepared speciality coffee and tasty food (including massive slices of not-too-sweet carrot cake). The cold brew was exactly what was needed on a hot day, and both the patio and indoor areas are great spaces for hanging out (we went twice during our stay). Highly recommend!
Will A — Google review
Great place with super fresh food and good prices. For breakfast there is an unbeatable deal to get fruit, juice, coffee, and eggs in a combo. We ate here one day for lunch as well and what stands out is the freshness of ingredients. If I had one criticism it is that bread always seems to dry. It is good whole grain, but very dry. But this def one of if not the top breakfast place in San Cristobal.
Nicholas M — Google review
It’s such a peaceful and lovely experience to sit outside in the courtyard here. The coffee is absolutely scrumptious—definitely one of the highlights! Just a heads up, you might catch some live music while you’re enjoying your drink, which adds to the vibrant atmosphere. The wifi isn’t the most reliable, especially since it was busy when I was there, but that didn’t really bother me. There’s also a cute art gallery and an outdoor shop in the courtyard that are worth checking out. Overall, it’s a great spot to relax, sip on some great coffee, and soak in the creativity around you!

We enjoyed Chiapas pour-over coffee and brunch with yummy local cheese and banana pancakes at this local favorite spot. We got our lavender and rosemary fix at the garden there sitting in the courtyard of a renovated 400-year-old hacienda.

Such a great find! This is my favorite cafe in San Cristobal. Love the carrot cake, nice frosting and the cake itself isn’t dry at all! The cafe is very artsy and surrounded by flowers and plants. Having brunch here is like sitting in a garden. We had musician playing violins and the service was very fast. My breakfast omelet was very filling and tasty.

Bar
Posheria, located at Real de Guadalupe 46A, is a must-visit spot in San Cristobal de las Casas for those interested in experiencing the rich history of Pox. This cozy and mystical bar offers a private tasting experience with only four seats at the bar. The top-shelf pox can be enjoyed alongside coffee-dusted orange slices and chocolate coffee truffles. The variety of flavors, especially the pure options, are highly recommended.
This is the best place I found to try a variety of pox. My favorite was the ceremonial; it’s so smooth and reminds me of mezcal, but with a distinctive flavor from the corn. I also really liked the tamarind among the flavored ones, as well as the cardamom and cinnamon. The shop is beautiful and the owner is very friendly! It’s great any time, but if you come by outside of peak hours you can enjoy a conversation and more easily sample a bunch of the flavors (you can do the mini 1oz pours outside of peak hours).
David W — Google review
Great shop with beautiful textiles & truly enjoyed the owner Alex… we liked the Pox so much, we ended up flying to San Cristobal to see the other Posheria!
Melanie S — Google review
It’s a really nice place, I could’ve stayed there for hours. Posh is delicious, my favorite definitely was the tamarind one, the jamaica one is also absolutely delicious, but that if you don’t like such a strong flavor of alcohol. They also have 3 types of flavorless traditional posh. Service was great, would definitely go back

Parque Ecoturístico Rancho Nuevo is a serene nature reserve situated approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) from San Cristobal de las Casas. It offers lush woodlands, recreational areas, and a fascinating network of caves that can be explored through guided tours. Discovered by Vicente Kramsky in 1947, these hollow mountains stretch for a remarkable distance of 10.
Perfect day outside the city! We were looking for a chance to get out into the woods and Rancho Nuevo was a great breath of fresh air. We explored the caves - the initial experience was worth the $$, we did not do the additional guided tour at the end of the first leg of the journey. Must take a trip on the alpine slide, have lunch at one of the great sit-downs, and wander through the trees.
Spenser P — Google review
The Park and the caves are beautiful. The downside is you have to pay for everything individually. You have to pay for toilets. You have to pay for both caves separately. You have to pay for the horses. You have to pay for the zip line. Plus even though you get a ticket for the caves, once you exit them, your ticket becomes invalid. Meaning you have to pay to enter again. One cave even has two sections and you have to pay for them separately as well.
Paul B — Google review
Don't go there! There's nothing about Eco or turistic! It's an awesome place ruined by the administration and Mexicans! A huge forest ruined by car and motorcycles, barbecue, rubbish, high music, stand(food or clothes)...and fireworks! That's not a natural/quite place! P.s. poor animals close in cage!

Dessert shop
Bek, Semilla De Vida is a popular vegan restaurant and shop in San Cristobal that offers a variety of delicious and healthy plant-based dishes. Unlike other places serving international vegan food, Bek provides an opportunity to savor authentic Mexican vegan cuisine such as chilaquiles, enchiladas, burritos, pancakes, and smoothie bowls at affordable prices. The cozy and intimate restaurant also doubles as a vegan goods shop offering pastries and popsicles for dessert.
Beautiful restaurant in San Cristobal. The food is extremely tasty, well priced and the man working there is lovely. I had the curry and the Buddha bowl and gluten free banana bread. All were delicious, particularly the curry. You can’t beat the prices either, definitely recommend visiting this place. Everything is vegan and they have an amazing selection of gluten free items from the bakery as well! Wish I was here longer to try more dishes from the menu as there are so many options to choose from

Cute place with amazing food! And amazing prices! The nachos were incredible. I got an appetizer and main dish and it was more food than I can eat. Normally vegan places serve small plates so this was a huge plus! Would highly reccomend.

I'm vegan + Medical Medium + gluten-free and mostly fat-free and corn-free. My way of eating can be hard to maintain while traveling. Bek is a great little vegan restaurant with many gluten-free dishes and cakes on the menu. I had quesadillas with hibiscus to go, plus a homemade sneakers bar. And everything was so delicious anf full of flavour. Price was 106 pesos. I came back the next day for a gluten-free cupcake, and it was delicious too. I highly recommend this place. #glutenfree #vegan #plantbased #medicalmedium

If you find this feedback useful, please click the helpful button so I can add similar content in future reviews. One of my favorite healthy restaurants in San Cristobal. I went two times for dinner, once for breakfast, and took lunch for take away for a long bus ride and everything I had was delicious. Tried three of their bowls, a salad and a muffin. And prices are unbeatable. If you love healthy food or are curious to try out vegan cuisine a relaxed setting, AND you want free nachos with delicous salsa, then come here. 🔥WHAT’S SPECIAL: They have Spanish tortilla!! Its one of their most ordered dishes. I didnt get to try it but if you do, tell me. You can build your own salad and smoothie bowl. They have a lunch deal: For 125 MXN, you get baguette, fruit, water and muffin. They also bake their own bread and offer many gluten-free deserts. 🥗MENU: The entire menu is plant-based with a lot of gluten-free options. Heaven! Breakfast bowls, fruit salad, pancakes, mango pudding, granola, cold-pressed juices and smoothies, yummy deserts, veggie bowls, salads, soups, sandwiches as well as all traditional Mexican dishes (tacos, burritos & co). Basically everything your heart desires. 💵PRICES: Compared to quality, its FANTASTIC! Smoothies (44-55 MXN), breakfast bowls (80-85), pancakes (80-90 MXN), veggie bowls (less than 100 MXN), baguettes (70-80 MXN), salad (69-72 MXN), cookies, muffins etc (10-39 MXN) 🍛PORTION SIZE: The bowls are fairly small. While for me, it was perfect, it may not be enough for someone who likes to eat A LOT. 🍛DISHES I TRIED: 1) Lentil bolognese with salad and it had a slightly sweet taste - too sweet for me but still delicous, 2) Buddha Bowl with rice instead of quinoa, yummy! This one was interesting as all ingredients were already mixed.. But very good taste 3) Salad: build my own for the bus ride and it was a huge portion - loved that too, 4) Ensueño Bowl, delicious! 5) banana/chocolate muffin was a delight 6) Verde Juice with ginger was good. 🙋‍♀️CUSTOMER SERVICE: Food arrived fast. Service was always good. My favorite server is Chantalle. She was smiling, open, friendly and up for a chat. ⏰OPENING HOURS: Daily 8.15 - 21.30 except Thursday when they open from 12 - 8 pm. 🪪PAYMENT: I was only able to pay cash. 🏡VIBE: A small bistro type place with 4 tables, its quiet dark inside but it has its charm. You’ll meet fellow travelers, those who value healthy food and you even get to chat to the waiters if things are not too busy. No matter if you are vegan, vegetarian or meat eater, you’ll love it here. 🌎WIFI: Free Wifi available. ↗️SUGGESTIONS OWNER: A bit more quantity for toppings would be great. A Card machine would be fantastic. June 2023

Great spot for vegan food. They cook up healthy and tasty food with lots of veggies and whole grains. The Buddha Bowl was probably my favourite. They also have a few delicious treats like the gansito Cinnamon roll etc. You can also buy almond or coconut milk that they make themself. Also possible to buy different grains, species and homemade peanut butter (The Cacao 🥜 butter is delicious)!

The church itself is known for its distinctive mortar facade and was built in the mid-16th century. The market offers a wide range of items including souvenirs, clothes, and local handicraft goods. Visitors can find artisans from Mexico and Guatemala showcasing their work, with some creating pieces on-site.
Great experience . We walked around for more than an hour , looking at work from artisans from Mexico and Guatemala . Some make things right there, especially people with Jewelry. You can see them making beautiful pieces right there and also can ask for any adjustments or even get a piece made for a very reasonable price. I got a silver earring made for me right there !

We went there a Sunday and half of the shops were closed, hence we might have missed the good shops. However the half of the shops (open that day) is not worth the visit. They all sell the sames cheap souvenirs. This is very disappointing and does not show the craftsmanship of the local artisans.

We visited the restaurant.. Beautiful presentation of the food. Banana empanadas were perfect. Green salad with fruits and goat cheese was delicious. Very friendly service and the place is so beautiful with a green patio and calm music. Thank you so much ❤️

If I could give 0 stars I would. Never have I seen a staff so committed to making the guests have a poor experience. They have rooms next to the kitchen and to the cleaning supply closet. At 6am they start banging outside of the room, upon kind request to stop, they never apologized and said they need to operate the (empty) restaurant. Then the gardeners at 7am started banging, again we went to ask if they could kindly do that later, they said yes only to have it one minute later redone. I went to reception to complain again, said we would need to change rooms if we were to stay, they said no problem. We tried to get a few hours of sleep, at 12.30 we went to reception to have the room changed and they said we could go to another hotel but we would be charged the entire stay as it was after checkout time. I showed them the messages where they confirmed the room switch, but nothing. The hotel has beautiful crafts textiles in the reception, we tried to book a tour of the indigenous towns with them specifically asking to see this. Again they confirmed it was possible to then book us in the most expensive tourist trap, exploitation at best of the indigenous people paid like actors to perform for tourists. We said we didn’t want the same company, which I came to learn had 3 stars on google, to take us to Palenque the day after. They said they would refund us for the tour, only to take it back the day after. There are a lot of beautiful hotels in San Cristobal, this is only a missed opportunity

We had an excellent meal here. When we first came in the TV was on and the music was loud and club-style : I asked them to turn off the TV and change the music and they did immediately. Everything was fresh and creative - The nopales appetiser, corn soup and broccoli were particularly good.

Had a great stay at Casa Lum! The hotel's central location near bars, restaurants, and attractions was convenient (10-12 min walk). Professional staff, impeccable service, and a focus on sustainability. The room was beautiful but a bit small and cold. Delicious complimentary breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.

This place was beautiful🤍 I loved everything about it. The food was amazing, the interior, the service!! You NEED to go to this restaurant if you are in San Cristobal. You definitely should try the Eggplant Parmesean, it was sooo good that I am for sure going back to have it once more before I leave Chiapas. For desserts, I loved the cheesecake and lemon pie 🍋, but if you were to choose one go with the Lemon! It tasted amazing!!!

Beautiful and friendly hotel in the most interesting and vibrant part of this charming town. The staff is beyond incredible - most helpful, friendly and accommodating. They satisfied every wish and whim. For example, as vegans, we were served a special breakfast, with the chef bringing local veggies from her own garden (try chayotes!) and making delicious dishes just for us. Beautiful rooms. What a great place! You have to stay there when in San Cristobal.

Without doubt the best hotel in San Cristobal de las Casas! Besides being extremely beautiful and unique, the location is absolutely not to compete with. It's walking distance to everything in the city. We even got the most delicious breakfast in bed in our beautiful room to very reasonable prices. The best thing about this hotel though was the service all of the staff were super helpful, kind and smiley. The only problem about this hotel is that you don't want to leave.. Ever🙈 We thank you so much for one of the best experiences, we will definitely be back🤩

Best Hotel Experience in ALL of Chiapas!!!! I brought my mother to Mexico to celebrate her 77th birthday (was her first time visiting Mexico) and the staff at Casa Lum went out of their way to make it special and an unforgettable experience. All of the staff from check in, housekeepers and restaurant were so genuine and helpful. The hotel is beautiful and relaxing, the rooms are spacious and well designed, and the food was amazing. My mother and I felt so welcomed by everyone and we felt very at home during our stay. I also arranged a massage for my mom via the hotel and they sent a wonderful gentleman named Pedro. My mother says it was the best message she’s ever had. Back in April I received devastating news that I have stage 4 cancer and honestly I wasn’t sure this trip was even going to be possible…thankfully I was able to take my mother on this trip and with the help from the amazing people at casa Lum….this really was a once in a lifetime trip. It will always mean so much to my mother and I and if I’m able to next year….we will return to San Cristobal and Casa Lum. I have so much gratitude for all of the staff at Casa Lum, for they truly are the best!

Cocoliche is a popular dining spot known for its diverse and delicious menu. The restaurant offers scrumptious pasta dishes, well-prepared steak, and flavorful guacamole. The ambiance inside the restaurant is described as vintage with a 50s bar feel, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Visitors appreciate the generous portion sizes and budget-friendly prices at Cocoliche. Additionally, the restaurant's quirky and homey environment adds to its charm.
We came here a few times during our stay in San Cristobal. Their food are different from other restaurants around here with Asian twist option. We like all what we ordered and would recommend to ask them not to put sugar into Thai dishes in their menu.

This is my second time eating here and I’m truly blown away by how amazing the food is. Even just the roasted vegetables are the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. I had the red curry and the Thai soup and both were top tier in flavour. Will be back.

My favorite restaurant in Mexico. I go to the place every time I visit San Cristobal. I've never had a dish I didn't like. Salmon is amazing, no fishy taste, crispy. The asian food there is spectacular. The SALADS are amazing too. The deserts are great. I don't know how the kitchen keeps up to all these variations they have on their menu and keep them tasty. Salute goes out to them! They could improve the pasta as the noodles are store bought, they could easily buy/make fresh pasta. The the wood chairs are extremely uncomfortable and almost like tourture, but worth it.
Jason S — Google review
A real waste of a restaurant. Such a beautiful restaurant, amazing ambience with an appealing menu. With the good reviews I really expected something great, but sadly it all falls flat. The service is unprofessional, doesn't explain dishes properly and rude, poking us when they try to get our attention and serving out our dishes at different times. The burrito was hands down the worst I have ever had, it was soggy, had zero balance in flavour and just tasted bad, the fries on the other hand were amazing which was honestly the only plus of my meal. Overall I would avoid this place as there are many better restaurants in the area.

Hotel Bo is without a doubt, the best place we stayed during our trip through Chiapas. Out of the five hotels we visited, this one stood out for its stunning design, cozy rooms, peaceful courtyard and the library was a nice touch that made it hard to leave. The staff was AMAZING —so warm and attentive. They made everything about our stay comfortable and effortless, always going above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. The food at their restaurant, LUM, was delicious, and the location is perfect—close to town but still so relaxing. The thoughtful touch of gifting each room a handcrafted stuffed animal when we left was the cherry on top. Everyone in our group was pleased with the experience.

The Hotel Bo in Chattanooga is a great place! Starting with Ericka in reservations and working at the registration desk. She is so helpful and friendly! Then, April in the breakfast nook is very friendly. The manager Dale, is without a doubt the most engaged hotel manager I have met. I saw him cleaning the pool, helping clean a room, working the registration desk, and chatting with guests. In addition to the great staff, the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable! And my favorite part, the pool is fabulous! Clean and a comfortable temperature. We are looking forward to being back there next year.

The restaurant at Hotel Bo has been a favorite of ours since our first visit to San Cristobal. In the past we were delighted by the quality of the food, the ambiance, and the service. Sadly, our last dining experience at Hotel Bo was one of the worst we’ve had in some time, mostly due to the terrible service. My husband was served his main course and then it took another 30 minutes to receive mine. There were no apologies, and once the problem was obvious, the wait staff disappeared. It was bad.

The pizza was really good, like Italian style, thin crust and tasty. But the service was awefullllll. We were the only people in the restaurant and we had to call out HOLA. To place the order, the have the bill, then to pay the bill. They were all just on their phones. If you want the good pizza you will just have the deal with the bad service !

BEWARE OF DANGEROUS SEATING! I got torn pants from a protruding nail. Complained and got the brush off. NOT INTERESTED. -We went on Saturday lunch and wanted to sit in the enclosed courtyard area. As we were 9 people,we were directed to some bench seating on which I sat and it immediately started to collapse. As I stood up it tore my pants and I got spiked in the leg. We went to complain and the lady who was in charge phone the manager, ( who appeared to be her Pop), and basically said it was our fault for wanting to sit out in the courtyard area. We just got defence and no apology. We just got the finger so we went elsewhere. In my opinion IF SOMETHING IS WRONG THEN YOU WILL BE IN THE WRONG. JUST TO WARN YOU.

The Museo Mesoamericano del Jade, located in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Mexico, is a museum that showcases the significance of jade in Mesoamerican history and culture. The museum is housed within La Casa del Jade, a cultural center known for its expertise in jade.
Amazing museum, definitely worth a visit even if you don't have much time in San Cristobal. The pieces are beautiful, the presentation is on point and the accompanying information is quite interesting
Antoine P — Google review
Very interesting geological and cultural / anthropological displays of the history of jade in Mesoamerica. The English option is a simple booklet with translations of the signs. However, in the extremely dark exhibit halls, it's nearly impossible to read and to match up with the maps and artifacts. If you're lucky, you'll see a craftsman working but there is no interaction or explanation and, as much of the machinery is very loud and their have headphones and we don't, it doesn't encourage you to linger and watch. There was a sign advertising free Mexican liguor tastings but nothing was offered. Many options for purchase. Worth a short visit for good overview.
Zoe D — Google review
The museum was quite an interesting place to visit! It had a wide array of fascinating exhibits that captured my attention. However, I found it a bit disappointing that the guide provided all the information at the very beginning of the tour and then simply left us to explore on our own. This approach made it challenging to fully appreciate the details and context of each exhibit as we moved through the museum. Despite this, there were still many cool and intriguing items to see, which made the visit worthwhile.
Wattle B — Google review
The museum has a lot of potential and there's still some space to improve, that's why the 4 stars!

Enjoyed our visit to this museum where you will not only learn about jade but also about how various cultures used and appreciated the gem. Quite interesting. The museum store sells real jade so don't expect street and market prices. Low entrance fee. Allow one to 1.5 hours.
Carlos R — Google review
I don't know why this place got low reviews. It was small and yes, the pieces are reproductions, but it was highly informative and a fascinting blend of mesoamerican and geological history. They even had an English booklet to translate all the signs. There's a replication of Pakal's funeral tomb at the back which was also beautiful both for history buffs and the casual visitor alike. The gift shop was very expensive but treated like an extension of the museum (especially with the live, built-workshop) it was lovely to look at. Plus you get a discount at the Kakao museum with your ticket from here which makes for a nice afternoon combined.

Kakaw Museo del Cacao y Chocolateria Cultural is a tribute to the rich history of cacao production and chocolate in Chiapas, Mexico. Visitors can explore the process of making chocolate from growing the crop to producing the final product. The museum also features its own chocolate factory where visitors can indulge in various forms of chocolate. Additionally, there's a small cafe on-site for those looking for a quick bite.
Came here twice on my trip. First time for a museum tour. The museum is small but has really cool history and info about cacao, the history that cacao has with Mayan culture and what it has become. Second time I came for chocolate workshop, which I highly recommend. You get to make your own chocolate disc to take home and understand why high quality chocolate is hard to find and the danger of cacao beans (facing extinction risk). Roxanna, my tour guide and also workshop manager, is amazing! She is the only one besides owner speaks English. We also get to taste a lot of different kind of chocolate there.

The most impressive part of the trip, Don Sergio has dedicated the majority of his life to help the indigenous people in many capacities, as a dermatologist healing wounds (looks like diabetes is an issue among them bue to the excessive consumption of Coca-Cola), building wells and teaching the locals about health care. He acquired the items in the museum over the years.

Fantastic! Dr Castro has an amazing display of Chiapas village costumes, and an excellent slide show of local Festival days. More than that, his commitment to helping burn victims and other sick people in the villages surrounding San Cristobal is phenomenal. Go! Don't miss it!

one goes here to meet and talk with sergio castro, a true hero for so many. sergio has been the savior of so many burn victims in san cristobal and communities around this colonial city. he gives selfishly of his time, money and energy to help those who would be left to be scarred from their wounds a true saint for so many. the re is also an excellent collection of traditional clothing, but alas in a sad state of preservation.

In house roasted, small production, local sourced 3rd wave coffee. Nice team, offered some ideas for visiting coffee producers in nearby communities. We bought some beans and had a delicious cup.

Nestled within the historic walls of the former Santo Domingo convent, the Museo de los Altos de Chiapas offers a captivating glimpse into the rich tapestry of highland Maya culture and colonial history. As you wander through its ground-floor gallery, you'll encounter an impressive array of archaeological artifacts alongside displays that reflect life in Chiapas from the 17th to 19th centuries.
This is a really well curated museum with some local history on the ground floor and a lovely exhibit of Mayan textiles with great explanations of their history and process upstairs. It is housed in a beautiful 17th century former convent, adjacent to one of the most exquisitely retired churches (at least the facade) I have ever seen.

(Translated by Google) Downstairs is this museum that has some interesting pieces and upstairs is the textile center of the Mayan world. In my opinion, the lower part could be more modern and have more pieces. What I didn't like is that the people who work at ticket sales kept shouting (without exaggeration) throughout my entire journey downstairs. They were laughing and shouting while they didn't let me concentrate to read and see what they had, I think. that the staff should be more cautious (Original) La parte de abajo es este museo que tiene algunos piezas interesantes y arriba es el centro de textiles del mundo maya.

Tapas bar
Mezcalito420 is the ultimate party destination in San Cristobal de las Casas, where the energy is palpable and the atmosphere electric. This vibrant bar attracts a lively mix of locals and travelers, creating an exciting social scene reminiscent of beach house parties from the '70s or packed rock concerts. With thumping music ranging from reggae to pop and electro, Mezcalito420 offers a dynamic soundtrack for your night out.
This bar is a high energy party, basically, composed of the hottest chicks in town with their friends--definitely the opposite of the Espacio Cultural places in town with the stray dogs and hippie vibe going on. Nope, this reminds me of house parties on the beach during the '70s, or a really congested arena rock concert where you spill beer on people just trying to move 6 feet in either direction. AND, they've got the loud music and flashing light thing happening too. Stuff like this doesn't exist anymore in the world because of the Coof restrictions, but here in a little, unknown Mexican mountain town, it's still happening.
Powergirl — Google review
Too loud speakers push latin music, they tried to charge us $20 pesos for spilling a beer they had to clean up. I told them we paid for that on the front end, why pay on the back end. Also that it wasn't our fault their floors may have been off, or more likely, they kept rickety tables. Also $40 peso water. Pass.
DeeNaaLee — Google review
Music is thumping and drinks are flowing. There were locals out for drinks and travelers enjoying what San Cristóbal de las Casas has to offer. People start to show up for a good time by 10 pm. Before that it may be a bit on the quiet side depending in the day.

The café is renowned for its delicious coffee and mouthwatering food, making it a favorite among visitors who often return multiple times during their stay.
Amazingly nice people! The coffee and the food are both delicious. It was so nice i went back three times. The museum is small, and only has description for the exhibit in Spanish, but it is very nice and quite interesting even for people who don't know much Spanish. I a bag of coffee from there and they were very nice to explain to me all the flavor profiles of the different coffees they have. I also wanted to get some unroasted green coffee beans, which they told me i could get Monday morning when they got their new delivery in (ordered on Saturday). On Saturday they told me a price which seemed very fair, but when i went there Monday morning to get it, they just gave it to me for free! Exceptionally nice people, highly recommended visiting.

I ordered chocoate con agua but it was too bitter and tasteless. So I asked if I can add milk, and they said yes. So I thought I changed to chocolate con leche. But it turned out they charged me 20 more 😅 I mean it is just $1, so it is not a problem at all but it could have been better if they explained me earlier!

Restaurante Falafel 100% Vegetariano is a popular dining spot in San Cristobal, located on Avenida Maria Flores. The restaurant is known for its delicious falafel served in freshly made pita bread, along with generous portions of hummus and salad. It's a favorite among locals and visitors alike, offering a unique dining experience for those looking for vegetarian options.
Great food and friendly staff. Groovy Bohemian atmosphere. Very relaxed place, we will definitely return.

Delicious falafel sandwich! The flavor is still there of all the ingredients! Only wish they had a no sodium chloride (salt) option. ... Of all the places I have eaten in town, this place is the only ones that actually respectful use Salt. It's not the cover flavor like so many other places here. I was so happy to find this restaurant. The owner has a very relaxing attitude but takes the kitchen seriously, everything is clean and organized, the foods feeling fresh off the process. Definitely made with heart.

If you're looking to immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture of San Cristobal de las Casas, a visit to Mercado Viejo is an absolute must. This bustling market, also known as Jose Castillo Tielemans market, offers a delightful array of fresh produce, meats, and spices that will inspire any home cook. From colorful fruits and vegetables to unique ingredients like dried chiles and handmade tortillas, you'll find everything you need for your culinary adventures.
Reminds me of markets in Oaxaca. We exit the taxi and immediately witness the live game exchange actions on the street, can’t get more real than that lol. I been told the indigenous community here don’t like tourist taking photos of them so I refrain my photo action, until I see this gorgeous bean stall with a man in really cool looking poncho. We got some beans from him and with his permission I took a short video. I love checking out local markets to discover new ingredients that I might never know. This time I saw some new spinach (maybe another varietal) and some new herbs that’s new to me. Also love the way they display the produce and seafood. I will highly recommend coming here for a cultural and local experience.

This is an authentical market where they sell a lot of nice stuff! I was kinda sceptical about it, but all the sellers are lovely and kind. The prices of all goods are also very reasonable and one shouldn’t bargain about the prices (we were told this by guides), because everything is hand crafted and not as commercial as other markets in the country.

I overall liked my stay in this hotel, particularly the location (central but in a quieter street) and the balcony of our room, facing the church and with sun most of the day. Also everything was very cleaned and the room seemed pretty new. What I didn't like is the bed, pretty hard and uncomfortable - at least for me- and the staff of the reception that was not particularly helpful when we asked questions or support (at some point we had to do an international call to block our credit card and they only said to us, with zero empathy, to just go to oxxio).
Elena B — Google review
Great location. Friendly staff, and quite a beautiful place. The internet was spotty at best during my 48 hour stay. Bathrooms are a bit under par in my opinion. Especially because they have open windows facing the hallway, so there's not much privacy there.

I really liked the hotel. Instant check-in, suitcases were delivered to the room very quickly. The staff is professional and attentive. Everything in the room is clean and tidy. There is hot water, but very low water pressure. Wi-Fi in each room, but you need to choose your access point with the maximum signal level. For breakfast I liked the juice of fresh oranges and scrambled eggs with bacon.

Went there to go for a hike, there’s a gate which was closed on a Saturday morning at 10:30am?! There was a pathway on the right of the gate which I took up where I met a local after 200m that told me it’s only open on Fridays (one day a week?!). Tried to get passed but he wouldn’t let me saying this is not the path and it’s “private” though this was leading to another community further up the hill where there would be a nice lookout over the valley.

Unfortunately many natural places I visit in mexico nowadays run by some local Mafia's. Nonsense asking plenty of money for 45 min walk.rip Mexico's nature
Goran T — Google review
I was a bit disappointed by this hike. Firstly, it costs 40 pesos to enter and the walk is only 2 kms long. With some steep inclines it is possible to finish in 40 minutes. The nature is okay but nothing spectacular. The sign posts are not well maintained and as a result sometimes it is possible to walk on another path. Along the path are 3 points to rest which are pretty good. Overall I would not recommend this walk.
Patrick L — Google review
Beautiful and tranquil! Highly recommend to get away from the city.
B. V — Google review
To me the short walk is not worth the entrance fee. You can find much better places for hiking! However it may be possible to avoid the entrance fee if there is noone at the booth OR if you walk through the little village above the entrance first and descend at the last house/hut.
Michèl B — Google review
Beautiful hike. Great place to connect to nature, Interesting to note how the diversity of the plants will change as you go up in a relatively short time. Great energy. Serene.

Beautiful natural forest full of endemic trees and plants. The land is well preserved and has a good walking trail that begins quite steep. There are I think five rest spots along the way with a table and bench. Signs indicate and identify several native trees and plants along the way. The forest is full of bromeluads and tillandsias. Its a two kilometer walk, takes about an hour to walk. The only thing I didn't like was the proximity to San Juan Chamula. A big festival was going on and the sounds could be heard. But this us a great park for nature lovers. A lot of birds can be heard as well.

The staff is helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend it! For one big coffee, a medium lentils bowl with extra falafel, a peanut shake and a fruit water, we paid around 300 Pesos.

Delicious, rich in flavour, healthy food. Excellent service. I asked for mattcha late that wasn't on the menu, and I got the best I've ever had. The place has a really cool but peaceful vibe. Already want to come back.

Delicious meal in a lovely restaurant, the service was great, the man serving was helpful and friendly. I had the chickpea bowl with added vegan meatballs, the meatballs were delicious as was the entire meal. Also had a Frappuccino which was good :)

Coffee is strong. The food was pretty bad. The staff was adorable and amazing. Edit to reply: this was some of the best COFFEE i had in chiapas. The coffee is amazing. The staff is also amazing! Food was not the best. I will add a photo of what i got. As you can see in the photo, there was absolutely no seasoning in any of the dish. None. The meatballs that i ordered separately were good but there was not even a pinch of salt on the meal. The carrots were not marinated in anything. It was super weird. Maybe i had the wrong dish! I would recommend this place for good staff members and great coffee but not this particular dish.

Beautiful small restaurant with great food. We had breakfast here one day and then found out about the brunch deal they have on weekends, so we came back on a Saturday. We loved everything! The service is great and price-quality ratio is very good.

Wow! The best vegetarian restaurant ever! I don’t think I ever ate better/healthier salad. I ordered lentil salad and it was so healthy, beautiful and so tasty. The pickled cabbage was so delicious. We ordered cacao/avocado smoothie and avocado smoothie and they were so delicious. We’re coming back to for brunch special.

One of my favorite cafe located on a side street right in the center of San Cristobal. They serve the most delicious avocado toast in San Cristobal. But they have so much more!!! If you want your food to not only taste good, keep you full for long, look nicely presented on the plate and be of highest quality, then you must come to Aguacate Veggie Bar. I ate here twice - 1st time the Avocado Toast with white bean puree and 2nd time the brunch - the best food in San Cristobal, not even to mention the avocado toast!!! There is no other. Just like their sister cafe in Oaxaca, I left with a big smile on my face. 🔥WHAT'S SPECIAL: All dishes come with avocado. Their avocado toast is simply THE BEST. Not kidding. You have 4 different flavors to choose from. Bread is home-made sourdough bread. They offer weekend brunch where you can get to try a bit of everything (poke bowl, mini toast, smoothie bowl and a vitamin shot) for 180 MXN. 🥗MENU: They offer a great variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes including 3 different breakfast bowls, veggie bowls, falafel dishes, vegan meatballs, soups, hummus, smoothies, natural juices, ginger shots, and yummy deserts. ⏰OPENING HOURS: Mon - Sat 9 am - 5.30 pm, Sun 10 am - 5 pm 🌎WIFI: Strong WIFI available. 🏡VIBE: Very relaxed with soft music playing in the background. It was never crowded when I was there. The space is small with 4 tables. ☕️COFFEE: they also have coffee and vegetable milk, but i would not come for the coffee (rather go to a coffee shop) 🙋‍♀️CUSTOMER SERVICE: Food arrived fast. Service was very good. The owner, Manuel was up for a chat, and Tanja did a great service. 💵PRICE: Smoothie bowls (120 MXN), smoothies/shakes (75-100), falafel dishes (120), poke bowls (125), avocado toast (115-150), vegan meatballs (55), water of the day (23-32), ginger shots (35), almond milk (15), coconut/soy milk (10) ↗️SUGGESTIONS OWNER: Replace plants 🪴 on table with real ones. My favorite restaurant in San Cris. I didn’t love the smoothie bowl but the avocado toasts, bowls, and shakes are sooo good that they keep me coming back. I’m definitely going to miss this place when I leave. The beet hummus is sooo good!! I crave it regularly! All the ingredients are super fresh, the staff is wonderful, and the vibe is great! Such a gem!!
