Over 50 years ago, an unidentified ape-like creature was sighted and caused a stir, and the creature was named Hibagon. There was so much excitement that a department called "Great Ape Section" was created in the city hall, but things subsided within a few years after the first sighting. It is approximately 700m from the top of Mt. Eboshi to the summit, and takes 15 to 20 minutes. It takes about 1.8 km from the summit of the mountain via the Mt. Hiba Kodo to the trailhead along the road, which takes about 50 to 60 minutes. The path is clear and there are no dangerous spots. The climb up Mt. Hiba Kodo is a little steep. There is basically no outlook throughout. I think it would be a good idea to enjoy forest bathing by walking through the beech forest, which is one of only three places in Japan that has been designated as a natural monument.
