What a fantastic experience!! This is a great place for all ages. Due to the historical significance, I definitely recommend visiting at least once in your life. It was fun learning even more about the Wright Brothers and their first flights than I knew before. It was a deeply moving experience with the commemorative memorials. The visitor center/museum was a beautiful 'Mission 66' 1960s themed building. I love the classic look and engineered design!
This is a really nice area! If you have younger kids this might be a little boring for them. As someone who has always enjoyed aviation I thought it was awesome. You have to take time to get through the museum before going outside to understand what everything is. There is a nice gift shop here as well.
A must see attraction when in the area! Great for children! There's definitely a lot of walking and some climbing but you can still enjoy the memorial without the walking and climbing! The visitor's center has lots of information and things to see! The ranger program was fun and informative!
If you are into history and Aviation you will love this place. Adonis the guide that gave the presentation was amazing! He should be on stage in NYC or CLE! Standing and walking the flight line that the Wright Brothers used was a touching feeling. And the climb to the top of the National Memorial was exhilarating! Don't forget to get you passport stamped!
Awesome experience, fun and historical to see the monument, sculpture and barn. Due to the Government Shutdown the museum, tour and general parking is all closed off but you can still walk around the property and see the monument and stuff. I walked around while listening to a podcast and felt like I was getting pretty much the whole experience. Use the First Flight airport parking lot and walk in. The airport has no gate.
It was a nice experience to see where the wright brothers experimented with flight and to see the flight landing markers. They made it farther than I thought they made it for the first few flights. Theres a recreation statue of the flight and the other people that were present for it. The uphill walk up to the wright brothers monument was worth it. Plus the walk back down was soooo much easier than going up. One of the signs says the wright brothers carried each piece up the hill manually. Even after each flight.
Awesome memorial to the Wright Brothers and the first flight. Great little gift shop with good quality clothing made in U.S. you can bring your dog along for the walk up the sand dune to the outside memorial, too! Good clean facilities
Your vehicle can get in with your NPS pass or pay $10 pp. This place is very cool, so much history behind the 1st flight. It’s like walking on hallow ground - the hill where they tested the plane without engine, the field where they made the 4 successful flights. Instead of walking from the visitor center to the hill, you can drive & park at the base of the hill. It’s a long walk. There’s an outdoor area with the bronze statues too. Must visit place when in the OBX area.

Cool old school wooden pier with food, a bar, and an arcade inside. Great views up and down the beach. This visit only thing biting seemed to be skates, but everyone fishing seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Absolutely love the atmosphere here. The bartenders are super nice, the drinks are cold, the snacks are good and the view can't be beat. Also pup friendly, they even give doggos biscuits.
This is our happy place. Great live music and drinks.
Google maps says it’s a trail it’s not but I caught big and small fish it was really fun there was snacks drinks and a arcade
A nice and simple pure with a beautiful view. Prices are more than fair
Beautiful pier, didn't get to fish off of it because I forgot my rods, but everyone who was made it look really fun!
Was better before they started charging to park

Had an exciting time at Colington Speedway today! Good prices and 2 different tracks to choose from. Really fast go-karts and awesome staff! There's also a kiddie track for those with kids under 54 inches. The family track is by far the best with the #13 car being the fastest. Highly recommended to those who want a fast and fun family experience.
Being just off the beaten path probably keeps the profits down here. This is good for you the driver. As another reviewer said: longer rides, lower prices. There are three tracks though the adult oval was closed when we visited. The kiddie oval is good for drivers in 54" and cost just $5! The adult speedway had a nice mix of curves and was not much more. The karts are gas-powered. They have doubles and singles. Our double was strong enough to overtake the singles so it's a fair fight (hint: tap your brakes to turn sharply, then floor the gas pedal). One caveat: if you forget your sunglasses you will get muck in your eyes.
Very affordable and we had a bunch of fun. Staff was awesome but this isnt your route 12 go cart place. The place is a bit old and the carts are old as well. The carts are gas powered and top speed vary quite a bit depending on which cart you select. I would go back again. Love to support the small guy.
This was the second year going to these tracks, and my family loved it again! The people make the environment so easy going and likeable. Not to forget the great conversations we have with the owner each time we have been. A few carts were not up and running (but this was their second day open), I hope to keep making trips back every year
We have been coming to the OBX for 5 years straight. And we have been missing out!!! Best place to ride go karts. Old school gas carts that move faster than anything else on Beach. And better than that the pit crew was great. They understand that rubbings racing 👍👍. Will go no where else!!!
This place is awesome. Karts are super fast and the staff is super friendly and accommodating. I could spend all day there. I had the tail hangin out fighting the wheel around every corner. And having a good time with a family of 4 will not break you.
fantastic staff and antique racing karts. real down to earth business, go karts the way they were meant to be. it isnt the prettiest but its been around for a while and time takes a toll on any engine but the staff does their best to get everyone out and racing as fast as they can and they seriously stress safety. they're cars are faster cheaper and they let you ride longer.
Out of date speedway. Slick track is not slick, go kart was very slow and would not be taken out of service. Seriously the go kart I got was so slow I would have been better off driving a lawnmower out there. Also the sign says five dollars on the outside but that's only for kid rides. Adult races are 8.00.

For those with limited mobility and/or wheel bound (rolling walkers, strollers, chairs) this option is a wonderful accommodation.
Unique place hidden away on the outer banks. Bright green water, tall pine trees, trails throughout. You can hike out to the sound and maybe catch a sunset, we came in the middle of the day and it was a nice view of the sound. Definitely worth a trip if you are looking to spend some time off the beach or waiting for your rental to be available.
Great place to get out for a hike. There are a bunch of well maintained trails for the novice hiker. There are benches along the way that are perfect for a break or picnic. If you want some peace and quiet hit this place for a short hike. The visitors center has an outdoor water fountain for a refreshing drink after your hike.
You’re probably going to feel like you’re lost driving in because it’s through a neighborhood, but just keep going. Very cool place, wandering trails with labeled plants and lots to see. They have ADA trails too, as well as those on which you can take a leashed dog. Bathrooms and a water fountain, and a bowl for dogs too. Definitely wear bug spray, the mosquitoes are impressively large. Keep an eye out on the swamp for frogs and turtles, and there are a lot of differently colored butterflies and dragonflies to see as well.
A gem! Fascinating to get up close to the marsh terrain that you drive by continuously. We learned a lot about the environment of these barrier islands on easy, well sign-posted walks. Great with kids.
The trials were very used and poorly marked. I saw two turtles but not a single bird. A lot of development is ruining this place. Too sad.
Great hike through native sand dunes. Well marked and maintained trails... Thanks for preserving this wonderful site.
Such a serene place. Trail options for just the right hike.
