My wife and I enjoyed a private tour of this small family-run winery. Matea, one of the owners along with her brother, gave us a brief history of the winery and the area. We enjoyed 5 (generous helpings) of their own wines from the Rose, Chardonnay, Malvasia, Botarus (Their own blend) and their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon. Each wine was accompanied by homemade cheeses, bread and cured meat, all created at the site. It was informative but also very interesting and enjoyable. The amazing setting in this valley with views of the Croatian mountains and beside the vines really made this a spectacular day for us. We even had an opportunity to walk amongst the vines and see all of the different grapes used to make these beautiful wines. We then finished the day with 5 different homemade liqueurs to round the visit off nicely. There is a small shop where we purchased a few bottles to take home with us and it was great that there was no pressure to do so. We were kitted out and given a selection of sea kayaks to try. Dom was a great guide; calm, friendly, interesting, and, compared to previous Mediterranean experiences, gave a good safety overview before we set off. It was a lovely paddle, with a decent amount of water traffic to negotiate at times, but this did not spoil the trip. Šunj beach was my least favourite part of the day with lots of bathers and various sized boats crammed into a beach that, to be honest, felt nothing special. I was a little apprehensive about booking for a second time because the first trip (three years ago) had been so spectacular, I thought it would be impossible to live up to that first experience. The attention to detail in the planning of these tours provides varied and fulfilling days with kayaking, snorkelling, cliff jumping, cave swimming and bike riding as additional options on the trip. With just the right balance of safety guidance, support, historical knowledge and humour from our guide, Ivan, this trip was just like my first one - truly memorable! One element of these trips is that you join a small group of like-minded people and have the opportunity to make connections and potentially new friends (which I'm happy to say was the case on our trip!) This summer was my Dad's 6th holiday with Adriatic Kayaking Tours (which tells you all you need to know really!).
