There is so much to do and see in Dubrovnik and the area but if you have any interest in the history of the area or seafaring history you need to stop in this small museum.
We were in Dubrovnik for a day and so we didn't buy any pass or make specific plans. We came across the museum by accident and decided to go in and are glad we did.
There are just a few rooms but the exhibits are of good or excellent quality. All the exhibits have an explanation in English (unlike some places we went in Croatia). There are collections of artifacts grouped by type so you'll encounter several sextants and other navigational tools together.
The building itself is of interest build on the city walls. Outside the entrance you'll encounter some cannons pointing over the harbor and a very large anchor. Inside you'll be able to see the harbor through windows and port holes.
The first floor has small rooms with older artifacts and revealing the oldest knows aspects of the region. Upstairs are displays of more recent seafaring events and objects.
If you enjoy replicas of sailing ships you will enjoy the numerous models on the upper floor. There is a plaque that describes the ship, it's use and history.
One of the display maps I didn't expect to appreciate so much showed in simple yet detailed display the trading routes and the role Dubrovnik played in connecting the Mediterranean world and beyond.

The Maritime Museum was a very interesting stop during our walk along the city walls. It’s a great place to pause, rest, and dive into Dubrovnik’s history, not just its seafaring achievements and merchant tales, but also the city’s broader past. The exhibits are well presented, and the location inside St. John’s Fortress adds even more atmosphere. Definitely worth visiting if you want both a break from the walls and a deeper understanding of Dubrovnik.

Located within St. John’s Fort, the Maritime Museum is a nice and interesting way to spend a quick 30 to 45 minutes exploring Dubrovnik's rich seafaring history. It provides solid context about the city's importance as a naval power. Best of all, entry is included within the Dubrovnik Pass, making it a convenient stop if you are already touring the City Walls. Worth a visit if you have the Pass.

This was included within the Dubrovnik Pass otherwise I would probably not seek it out to visit. It's quite small, one long room, however the Maritime museum in Split is actually far superior.
Whilst there is plenty of information to read about Dubrovnik's seafaring past, there aren't that many physical exhibits. A number of items are displayed recovered from shipwrecks under the sea. I did like the collection of old atlases and interesting to see the trade routes used for different commodities. Visit if you have a three or seven day Dubrovnik pass as it's included.

This maritime museum was a pleasant surprise. For €10, we gained access not only to this site but to nine other museums as well—great value, though it’s unclear if that was the regular deal or due to a printer issue on the day we visited.
The collection spans two levels and includes a range of maritime artefacts, old paintings, navigational tools, and ship models—plenty to explore if you're interested in naval history. The upstairs area also features a children’s play section, which is a thoughtful touch for families.
Staff were polite, and although the printer was down, one of the attendants made the effort to find us later and hand us our printed tickets, which we appreciated.
One concern: near the children’s play area upstairs, we noticed a large open window with no safety barrier or stopper. It felt unsafe, especially with young kids nearby. Hopefully this gets addressed.
Overall, a place with interesting exhibits and good value, especially if you’re planning to check out other museums in Dubrovnik.

My teenage son is a big fan of model ships and naval history - he loved this museum and got a real sense of the history in this part of the world. He said afterwards that he wished he could go back in time and be a merchant, with a ship in this port, trading spices etc. I’ve rarely seen him so enthusiastic about anything! Highly recommend this museum for history fans! €10 for adults, €7 for kids. You can visit this museum without paying for a ticket to the walls.

Included in the Dubrovnik pass this is definitely worth walking up the hill to visit. In fact the best of the museums I've seen in the town.
I loved the large exhibition of b&w photographs taken by Jero Pugliesi mostly in the late 1890's showing what the town & people were like.
The second floor showcases traditional life of centuries past through the agricultural instruments, and household furnishings & hardware.
The third floor focuses on traditional costumes. You also get a good view of the town from third floor window.

Multiple stories of exhibitions on the local culture and traditions with a temporary exhibition on women's role in the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. You can enter for free with the 10 Museums Pass or Dubrovnik Pass. Overall the layout doesn't facilitate the transfer of knowledge as there are plaques with a lot of text referring to some artefacts that are hidden somewhere else in the room. That makes it a bit tiring to get through each floor and be able to connect the information to the items. If you have one of the passes or are interested in seeing some traditional items it's a good place to spend some time. There is no AC and the higher you go up the warmer it gets. However there's a nice view of the old town from the window and seating options on most floors.

On a very blustery day in Dubrovnik we opted to do an indoor activity that would also take us away from the touristy old town. My wife, who grew up in the USSR, was keen to visit the Red History museum to gain and appreciation for the communist history of the former Yugoslavia. This museum tries to be neutral but many elements within are propaganda aligned against the Eastern Bloc, oversimplifying "communism" to make it read like oppression, tyranny, and all the nebulous bad and fearful element of government, instead of the socialist elements. But it does well to show the history of Croatia in Yugoslavia, is an educational experience and entertaining. If you bring your child here it is good to forment discussion, you must first bone up on a more neutral view of the ideals of communism and capitalism, the eastern and western bloc divide and the new North vs the Global South and try to string it together for a good discussion.

We just visited the Museum of Modern Art as it was included in our 1-day Dubrovnik pass, and it was a pleasant surprise. The museum has three floors showcasing a wide range of art — not just modern pieces, but also some more traditional paintings. There’s a lot of interesting context about the history of the museum itself, which adds to the experience.
The building is impressive, located near Banje Beach, and it was great to have air conditioning, especially compared to some other museums in Dubrovnik. We wanted to escape the crowds in the old town, and since this museum was also included in the Dubrovnik Pass, we decided to give it a shot!
It was definitely worth it, and we enjoyed our visit there.
The museum is just a short walk away from the old town, with a stunning sea view on the way.
The exhibition was perfectly curated with a great mix of sculptures and paintings of different artists (some of them even outside on the terrace).
It was a very nice afternoon away from the loud part of the town, and a very lovely lady at the entrance of the museum!

I went to the Dubrovnik Museum of Modern Art about an hour and a half before closing, but only the 3rd floor was open. If I’d known they closed the other floors early, I wouldn’t have gone. The 3rd floor was small, so I finished it quickly — a bit disappointing.

This is no criticism of the Natural History Museum but I wouldn't have gone if it wasn't included in the Dubrovnik Pass. I've been to lots of NH museums in big cities which are very impressive, so this small collection doesn't do much for me. A lovely little museum! The owner Dragan provides an introduction to its history and aim at the beginning of your visit. Each room has a different focus (local stories, movies, music, personal stories of visitors) and we loved reading through them while snacking on some candy. However, I would've loved to have more personal stories included (eg instead of the movies) and also those of different kinds of love, not just romantic.
You can tell that it truly is a labour of love meant to make you come back out with a smile on your face. On the top floor visitors can leave a personal note and read through the thousands of others'.
Tickets are 9€ per person, card is accepted.

We visited the museum on our way out of Old Town and were glad we did. What a cute museum dedicated to love! The host was very kind and explained about the experience and offered free candy. The museum had photos and stories about famous people thoughout croatian history, movie/music history, and Game of Thrones (as some of that show was shot in Dubrovnik.) I loved the 3rd floor with postits about love. You get a discount with the Dubrovnik pass. It’s down a bit of a back alley, but worth it!

Stopped by the Konavle County Museum on a Sunday and ended up having one of the best cultural experiences in the area. The museum is small but packed with beautifully preserved folk costumes, tools, and everyday items that tell the story of life in Konavle. The embroidery alone is worth the visit-stunning detail and tradition in every piece.
Right next to the museum is the Church of St. Nicholas, and after the morning mass, the square came alive with a local folklore performance. Traditional music, dancing, colorful costumes-it felt authentic and full of life, not touristy at all.

You can spot the Racic family mausoleum from a distance as is located on the highest point of Cavtat. The climb is a bit steep if you are coming from the steps but if you are walking in the centre of Cavtat is not so bad. The Racic family mausoleum which is also known as Our Lady of the Angels it was built in 1922 by the Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic in Art Deco style on top of an existing chapel of Saint Roch. Visiting Lokrum Island was an absolute highlight of our trip to Dubrovnik. We definitely enjoyed our time on this beautiful, tranquil nature reserve. It’s the perfect, accessible escape from the Old Town crowds.
Getting there is quick and straightforward. It’s just a 15-minute ferry ride from the city's Old Port. We found ticket purchasing to be easy, whether you opt to buy online or at the counter right in the port.
Once on the island, you immediately feel the difference. It truly is a beautifully silent, isolated place, filled with lush greenery and the most lovely peacocks who roam the grounds freely. For activities, there are great offers to swim in the crystal-clear Adriatic, so be sure to pack your bathing suit.

The Shell Museum has signs pointing you in the right direction, this had nothing but a Croatian flag and a small sign by the door. Our best dinner experience in Dubrovnik. We got 3 octopus dishes and they are some of the best I have ever had. The desserts are amazing, not too sweet at all and the tiramisu was prepared right in front of us. Our lovely waiter Miroslav made our experience here even better.

We stumbled upon this lovely restaurant whilst walking through Dubrovnik old town, which turned out to be the same restaurant we had visited on our last trip to Dubrovnik 7 years ago! The live music and fairy lights were inviting and added to a wonderfully relaxed dining atmosphere. The food was spectacular (even better than we remember) with the veal liver an absolute must try! I had the pleasure of visiting Art Restaurant Renaissance together with my colleagues from the Dubrovnik Tourism and Hospitality School, and I can say the experience was truly exceptional.
From the very first moment, the unique atmosphere stands out, the Renaissance-inspired interior radiates elegance and history, while the portraits and details on the walls reflect the proud heritage of the Dubrovnik Republic. The ambiance is calm, warm, and welcoming, perfect both for socializing and for indulging in fine gastronomy.
The service was outstanding, the staff were kind, professional, and always ready to recommend the perfect dish or wine. We especially appreciated their passion and knowledge about the food and the ingredients they use.

Art Renaissance is the absolutely perfect spot in Dubrovnik to get away from the crowds for a magical and romantic evening. The setting is gorgeous and off the Main Street so it’s much quieter. Goran our server was brilliant making great recommendations and giving us a couple of complimentary drinks as well! The food is absolutely out of this world. You cannot go wrong with your choices. We had a couple of pasta dishes as well as their tiramisu which was one of the best we’ve ever had! Do not skip this spot if you’re in Dubrovnik!

The Dominican monastery seemed to be deserted by tourists which was really nice as we walked around and had the place to ourselves. The only downside is the cost, as the monastery is not included within the Dubrovnik city pass so I had to pay an additional €4.

We were disappointed mainly because we were eager to learn and understand the history of the Synagogue and the Jewish people that came there, but the guides were tired and had no desire to share the history or stories. Another city tour guide had highly recommended visiting. Sadly though they were more than happy to take our money rather than interact with us. Visiting the Dubrovnik Synagogue was one of the most meaningful parts of my trip. As the oldest Sephardic synagogue in Dubrovnik and the second oldest in Europe, it carries deep historical and cultural significance. We took a private boat tour of the Elaphiti Islands with Toni as our captain. It was spectacular. Toni was very competent and knew where to take us to snorkel and swim. He made dinner reservations for us on one of the islands. It was the best fish meal we consumed on the trip. He was able to tell us some of the history about the islands as well. We had a wonderful afternoon and would definitely book again.

Matt and the team with Explore Dubrovnik were extremely professional and we enjoyed our trip very much. Communication was very easy via WhatsApp and they responded promptly.
We originally booked a boat tour for a day that looked like it was going to have rough weather and they were able to move our trip to the day before on very short notice.
When we had mentioned we were also trying to arrange our transportation to Split they were able to organize the transfer which included a stop at an exceptional winery all for the half the price our hotel was offering.

Enjoyed the long walk with views of the Adriatic a godsend, the bars along the wall offer sweet relief with drinks and superb ice creams lapped up. The scavenger hunt was extremely enjoyable as it was neither too easy nor too difficult to complete - the tour took us through a great part of dubrovnik and we learned things about the city’s history that we would not have known otherwise. The pictures of the game of thrones scenes provided with each solved clue was a great touch as we could directly compare it to real life infront of us. An all round amazing experience and much better value for money than the game of thrones tours in which you cannot decide where you want to spend your time individually! I highly recommend to any game of thrones fan, and suggest that you buy the dubrovnik pass to enter the ticketed areas like the fort and museum.

Had so much fun with the game of thrones scavenger hunt. It was 13 stops (or clues?) , and we almost got lost couple of times. Thankfully it was two of us and we bounced ideas with eachother. We also used the STOP command to stop and jump in the sea (and have a drink ofc). The ability to take breaks and continue later was perfect—we even stopped for a swim at Buza beach. Super affordable and full of hidden spots I’d never usually find. We went on the Game of Thrones Scavenger Hunt Tour and it was incredibly fun! You get to discover a lot of places that you wouldn’t notice or find by yourself, you can really see that locals developed it. It’s also extremely easy to use since everything is on your phone and you can go through the tour at your own pace, meaning, you can pause the tour anytime and go for a swim on a beach that the clues led you to! We visited several iconic locations used in the show and the clues were both engaging and cleverly designed, making the scavenger hunt not just a tour, but an exciting game.
No special equipment or extensive preparation was needed, just our smartphones. The whole experience took us a few hours to complete, but the ability to pause and resume allowed us to enjoy a leisurely pace.
Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who wants to discover Dubrovnik on their own, but still would like some direction and is a fan of GOT! :)

I was on the Game of Thrones tour and apart from just seeing the locations, and what was filmed where and how it looks real life vs. TV show, the scavenger hunt and clues were really fun and have made a game out of sightseeing! You can feel that locals were truly involved with the creation of the tour as I've seen places only locals could have known about. And the best benefit is the flexibility and possibility to stop and start whenever me and my friend wanted. A really innovative concept to have a tour guide through my phone and texts that I am able to take a break from, and that is a game also. Really cheap for what it is and extremely fun. We got lost a couple of times, encountered so many hidden spots, would love to do again!
