We had about 30 minutes until we needed to head to the airport and was going to check out a gift shop, as we just happened to pass by. In our brief time, Will filled us with so much information and joy, we couldn't have imagined not visiting. We got there in time to see the Macaw presentation which included information about them, and feeding. We spent a good amount of time chatting with Mary at the touch tank who was super friendly and knowledgeable! We got to catch the shark feeding demonstration as well. We learned that Coral World has some really cool exhibits and is very involved with rehabilitation and research to develop more resilient coral species. The experience is so disappointing except that we were indeed in water with 1 dolphin. We were a group of ~10 people, with a guide. We stayed here for half of our honeymoon, after fleeing St. John to st Thomas right before Hurricane Irma hit. No one would take us in. After the complete destruction we all became a family and took care of each other and waited for rescue. The cooks there made us our first hot meal maybe days later down by the water. We ate MRE meals from the military throughout and had saved water in our bathtub and all the bowls in the villa. A lot of the lower buildings were destroyed and roofs ripped off. It was terrifying. The aftermath was almost more terrifying than the storm as the island was so destroyed no one could get food or buy anything let alone drive anywhere with phone poles blocking roads and electrical wires everywhere. This is but a short description of the ordeal. We were eventually rescued by a ln old cruise ship. I believe we might have written a thanks shortly after but with Hurricane season starting it made me remember how wonderful the people at this place were to us. Truly like saved our lives. We were going to be homeless with our suitcases for the weekend. We saw an opening at bluebeards castle and immediately booked it. Upon arrival, everyone was really nice and polite and professional, the manager, Claudette and the front desk gentleman Shaun, were the nicest most helpful people we’ve met. Claudette arranged somehow for us to stay our whole trip here, we had to move one of the nights but we didn’t mind, we were so happy to have a place to stay! Not only were the rooms big and beautiful and clean, and WELL air conditioned, but the view from any room you stay in was beautiful. Now they have a nice clean pool that’s open until midnight and they have a bar are where you can eat breakfast and lunch with Jay and Lisa who were also phenomenal! Great people, the most delicious food, great vibes. And the dinner? Such flavorful food, helpful staff, even in busy times. Everything about this place was wonderful. The harbor view from the roof top deck and our balcony was stunning! At night the lights in the harbor and the mountainside was lovely. The hotel staff were friendly and more than willing to offer suggestions for restaurants and activities. We did a fishing charter and caught a ton of fish which can be prepared at Bluebeards. We did an underwater helmet dive in addition to beach time and sightseeing. The ferry excursion to St. John was worth the trip. Very steep roads but beautiful beaches, deer and donkeys plus a nice shopping area in Cruz Bay were enjoyable. The resort is nicely maintained although some sections are still being renovated from past storm/ hurricane damage. Our studio room was very clean, updated, the main bed was very comfortable and so was the pull out couch. The bathroom was very clean, nice shower and water pressure and the kitchen area had plates, utensils etc, a functioning 2 burner electric stove, small fridge and sink. The table and chairs were modern and comfortable. The lobby and grounds were clean and well maintained. The food at the capital grill and sunny side cafe restaurants was delicious! We had the Philly cheese steak and fries and seafood pasta, a salmon dish, chocolate chip pancakes and omelettes and the portion sizes were very large. The pool is clean and quite small, so don’t expect to do laps. The tour into charlotte Amalie was enjoyable and the tour guide was nice and friendly. The only downsides were getting used to the steep hills on both Islands and the road coming up the hill to the resort. It was also hard to find the entrance from the back road. We would have liked it if the bands were available more often. It is a small resort but perfect for relaxation and reasonably priced for the island. We will definitely come back again!

I'd say if you're a history buff and an active person you'll love it, if you want Beach/relaxation/drinks/food/facilities, visit Water Island instead. Hassel Island is a workout in itself and can be pretty much covered on foot in a few hours. You'll need to bring everything with you like your lunch and water as this is a almost deserted rock (only a few families live here) and keep in mind there is no where to use the restroom. Watch your step around the ruins and places to see are garrison house (from the British occupation), prince freddricks battery, fort Shipley, cromwells battery and the Marine railway. This island was once part of St. Thomas until the Danish blew up the land that connected it to create better water flow in the bay. The best way to get a guided tour is with the St. Thomas historical trust. They run tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays once a day for $80 per person but I'm not sure if they are still in operation now post hurricanes. I know there was a massive community volunteer clean up to get hassel island back in good shape for the cruise ships so if you cant get a tour there are water ferrys that will take you to explore the island on your own for $10. If you're in good shape and want to explore historical ruins from the early 1800s this may be a great adventure for you.

Mr. Dawuud was Excellent! I decided to go on a random trip to the islands for my 27th birthday! This has been my absolute favorite place, and best birthday I’ve ever had (thanks to Mr. Dawuud, and the scenery) I stayed at bunker hill and asked the front desk if there was any activities that they recommend, and they gave me the number to “Historical Caribbean tours” and told me to call. Immediately upon meeting he was already giving me historical facts about the area we were in. I was so amazed at the knowledge he had about the island’s! We event all around the island trying different fruit, explaining what different signs meant, explaining the health benefits of certain trees and fruits, and even going back in history about certain religions! I was so amazed by his knowledge and patience! At the end of the tour he asked me which beach I’d like to go to and then gave me suggestions. Mr. Dawuud is very smart, professional, and just a great soul. I’ll definitely be visiting again and booking with “Historical Caribbean Tours” 10/10 definitely recommend! He is such a welcoming and friendly person and went above and beyond in going over the history, architecture, culture, flora, and fauna of St Thomas and is truly passionate about it all. The General Tour included a pickup from where we were staying, then went through Charlotte Amalie, and around the island with stops along the way to learn. Dawuud stopped to show the most breathtaking views on St Thomas. We also saw a few rare and beautiful animals on the tour. It was one of the highlights our our trip, you would be missing out if you came to St Thomas without booking an experience here!

This place is a joke. I had a reservation for 10:30AM. I arrived and there was no one around. Luckily i spotted a guy walking towards it with a brown bag and a beer. This alone wasted about 20 minutes of my time. Once at the airport location the lot was FULL of cars and there were ZERO customers at the Budget counter, who had no one working. This year, I stayed at Hotel 1829. As a lover of old buildings, I am so happy to see this grand hotel restored to it's former glory. The owners have taken a lot of care to keep the historical details of this hotel and to honor the huge place it's held in St. Thomas history. During my stay, I came across many locals who were so happy to hear it was finally reopened. The rooms were quite spacious and the beds were so comfortable. The room gets very dark at night (which I loved) and the balcony is a nice spot to spend the morning. And the showers! I'm obsessed with how amazing that shower was. The bar and restaurant are very nice and so convenient being right downstairs. Plus it's the oldest bar on St. Thomas! They have a nice garden as well as a pool. Definitely recommend a stay here. I plan to come back for New Years and stay here again.
