But it seems that I can always get either or. Nightmarket was unfortunately no exception. Let’s start with the environment. I made a reservation for the tunnel room. When I arrived I was offered a table outside by a pile of boxes. Upon requesting a different table, I was sat in proper tunnel room. That was great. I must say the restaurant ambience is nice, most table are good and it looks great, except for the table I was offered initially. Now the drinks. They have excellent drinks. I was very pleased. I just think they could have been faster. It took a long time to get drinks for a small place. The food presentation was great but I thought the flavor wasn’t there. I had a Tom Kha Gai soup and it was great. The pork skewers are fantastic. Then I had the Miang Kham and it was disappointing. It was a very dry dish. Well presented but very dry and not to my taste. Then we had the pad thai, the mango salad and the papaya salad. The mango salad was great but the fried crab that comes with it was over fried and tasteless. We could not eat it at all. The pad thai was not bad but it was missing something. It wasn’t the best but again, I was disappointed with the flavors. The papaya salad was tasteless and probably the worst I ever had. I love papaya salads and usually I ask it to be made mild so that I enjoy the flavors. Unfortunately, the flavors were not there. It was like it was missing something. Again the same pattern. Since the experience was not that great, we decided to skip desert. In conclusion, I believe they need to speed up the drinks and enhance the food flavors. Everything else was great. High hopes after hearing all the great reviews. Most dishes we got - solid Spanish influence there. Highlight was squid, jamon and steak. The decor is simple, but very elegant. The dishes come in order of snacks, first, second, pasta, main, & after. The first and main have two options, and I believe they're allocated randomly. The menu is given to you post-meal. Octopus tempura, ox tongue and tuna crudo would be my highlights - well executed with a broad flavour palette, while still feeling cohesive. Some dishes didn't quite resonate with me, but there is only one set menu, and you can't please everyone. The only detractors apart from a few dishes not to my taste; The service was very knowledgeable and friendly, although felt at times rushed - one staff member was also quite soft spoken and we were right beside the speaker which didn't help! Some constructive criticism we gave was taken indifferently, which might have have been due the rush to buss tables as mentioned previously. We ordered the set 3 course limited lunch menu as there were no other options excluding snacks of focaccia or oysters. We chose a bottle of white wine from Puglia priced at €40 to share (2nd cheapest on the menu: overall limited value to be found on the wine menu). For mains, I chose the cavatelli in brodo with hedgehog mushrooms. It was tasty but I have eaten far better pasta dishes. I also got to try what my Mum ordered: pork collar with celeriac remoulade. Again flavourful but an incomplete dish if you don't order a side. For dessert, we were given the rhubarb fool (no other choice). Very tasty, however I was looking at this menu as a Speech and Language Therapist trained in managing swallowing difficulties and the limited menu had a high proportion of high risk foods (IDDSI) in terms of how they were presented eg the sword shaped chicory, the stringy apple, walnuts and the thick fibrous rhubarb stalks. I had a knife to cut up and modify the salad but didn't have a knife to cut the rhubarb stalks in the dessert and the spoon didn't cut it adequately. Perhaps something for the chef to consider so that food can be safer and managed more elegantly. There are other options in Dublin which I will explore the next time in terms of food choices and value.

My first time in this wonderful restaurant whilst visiting from Glasgow. Received a lovely friendly welcome on arrival, and a glass of chilled wine. We were seated near the area where a sax/clarinet player was performing and there was no issue with not been able to chat as the musician (Eddie) was just marvellous and read the room very well, he played requests, did a couple of happy birthdays and even played a lullaby to a baby! The staff were so friendly and explained any questions we had about the menu. We ordered steaks and duck, all the dishes were excellent and the wine to accompany the dishes which the staff recommended was spot on. I would certainly recommend a visit to this restaurant and if you’re lucky enough that it’s a night with Eddie playing it will complete the night! Thank you Bloom restaurant for a magical experience. Thoroughly disappointed, really, quite the letdown. When we arrived, the waitress didn't hear us with the full name of the reservation (the shreaking of American tourists didn't help), and asked us to repeat. We misunderstood and thought first name only, to which she then ridiculed us and said there were a lot of people with that name and that it didn't help. We were then seated adjacent to another table of 2. By adjacent, I mean, we were essentially joining them on a table of four - separated only by a pillar, with both diners sat right next to us. Mains were Irish Black Angus striploin which was tasty but an average steak at best. It was at least cooked medium rare as requested. Vegetables on the side were beyond aldente, rather they were in fact raw. The chips were salted to oblivion and back, and looked more like oven style than homemade. The other main was Wicklow lamb - no option to choose how it was cooked (any sort of quality lamb should be served medium rare, but the question should at least be asked and it wasn't). It came with gristle running through, was tough and again bland in taste served with halved new potatoes parboiled and fried, again all bland - more raw vegetables to boot. Total meal price for two was €160. We had high hopes given the reviews but they must reflect the American clientele with a supremely limited experience of cuisine - easily pleased, there for the photo opportunity and quaint surroundings, more than the meal for which they're paying. One saving grace - the manager/owner followed us out to hand back some debit cards that had fallen out of a handbag. Very kind indeed, for which the review acquired an additional star. I think he was aware that our experience had been subpar, and seemed as embarrassed as us. The opportunity is there for this to be a great culinary destination, but there needs to be a shift away from pandering to tourists. It can either be a tourist trap, or a great restaurant, but I suspect not both.
