The east parking lot is made of gravel and has limited parking and the start of the trail is frequently muddy. There is a pet waste trash can at the beginning of the trail which us dog owners especially appreciate! After the initial muddy patch from the eastern trailhead is an open, grassy mounds area that has blackberry plants. A short distance later is a second grassy area and just beyond this the landscape progresses into a lovely wooded area. Be aware that In Spring and Summer there are lots of stinging nettles right alongside the Trail. These contain formic acid, the same ingredient as fire ants have ,so don't let bare legs or ams brush against them, nor your dog stick it's nose where these are! Nettles ARE edible, nutritious and delicious. (You can safely harvest these with gloves and cook them by boiling, steaming etc to neutralize the formic acid) There is also a lot of edible Miner's lettuce along the trail, At the ended of the wooded section is another 'too small' parking lot with an open, grassy area with picnic tables and a short, downhill walk to the seashore with stunning, expensive views on sunny days

Amazing trails and scenery. My family and I loved hiking this place. We walked about 5 miles and hiked all around the perimeter. So gorgeous and peaceful out here. Great place but you’re pretty limited by the rules. No restroom. As we were leaving an old lady (local neighboring the County Park) made sure to remind us of the rules by not going beyond the park borders and to not move Any drift would as they apparently have lost 80’ of there property over the time of living there.. on top of that another older lady swarmed into the parking lot and also reminded us of the rules and asked us if the towel she found was ours and started inspecting the entire beach for anything left behind. The 1 1/2 hours we were there it was just us and one other family and a couple people who parked and never got out-wouldn’t doubt if one of them were a local “county park security officer” spying on us… kind of felt like it. *Anyways was a great place for the time spent-we got here early around 10am I think. Probably won’t come back unfortunately.

We lucked out as I realize the groups of owners and their dogs change with the time of day and season and both groups we met were polite and friendly (yes, I'm referring to both dogs AND owners!). Both times we went during our weekend stay at Whidbey with our boxer pup were enjoyable. I gave it 5 stars for ease of parking, a portapotty on site, 2 covered areas with permanent seating, sand/versus MUD base, a wooded area for the dogs to run amok, a variety of scattered toys and balls lying about for impromptu fetch and on site fresh water. Really this place is great and I'm coming from Bellingham, a serious dog hotspot on it's own. The rolling hills (great for doggy dashes) were also a huge bonus.
